• 0:00
[upbeat music] Oh, yeah. Good evening.
• 0:15
It's Full Spectrum Cycling, Number 85. Whoa. 85. Would that also potentially be JK's 200th show? Something like that. Somewhere. I, I was doing math, and I think I- Oof... I came in on- I smelled smoke...
• 0:32
the 15th of Weekly Dose. Yeah, something like that. It was, yeah. Eh. 'Cause I did 125, I think, of 'em or something- Right... and you were pretty much there that whole time, so.
• 0:45
[clears throat] We're say- we're saying it's, it's JK's 200th podcasting type show. Yay. Yay. Happy birthday, sir. B- bicentennial show, yay. [laughs] Yes. In 2014, that was. Huh, wow.
• 1:00
So- You've been a professional podcaster for six years [laughs] now. I'm telling you. Oh, oh-oh-oh. Excellent. You too. And, and by professional- Yeah... I mean you don't- [laughs] Not prof- I don't know. Semi-pro.
• 1:10
We should... Semi- semi-pro. [laughs] The perks are all in the adulations. Indeed, indeed, indeed. Ego stroking. Right? [laughs] I mean, who else would spend all this time yapping on a- [laughs]... microphone thing?
• 1:25
Microphone check. Microphone. Thanks. Oh, happy 200th. Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you. Uh, hmm. Hmm. It's a week out there. It's a week of, it's a week of good weather. Yeah, it is. Oh, wow.
• 1:36
T-shirt, T-shirt only yesterday. Yeah. Uh. Yikes. Um, it, they would in the past have called this Indian summer, wouldn't they? Uh, Native American summer now. Now what... Is that what we call it now? I don't know.
• 1:48
Is there, like, some new PC term? A global, global warming. I just call it a nice warm week- Yeah... in November, which is, you know- Yeah, unusual... we've had, we've already had crappy weather, so.
• 1:57
Autumnal summer- Yeah... but it doesn't- 71 today? Yeah. Probably. I was riding my motorbike around. Yeah, nice. [laughs] It's- Gasoline motorbike or- Yeah... electric motorbike? No, gasoline motorbike. Ah.
• 2:10
Because, uh, I think I have, like, I don't know, 10, maybe 15 times even more miles on my bicycle this summer than on the motorcycle. [laughs] Fair enough, yeah. I have not ridden it really at all.
• 2:21
[laughs] Maybe put a couple hundred miles on it, so I'm gonna give it a little love while it's warm out. Uh, 'cause it's going [laughs] it's going in the garage no- or the, going in the warehouse very soon.
• 2:31
[laughs] So- Yeah... it gets relegated- Mm-hmm... and the bike will be loved again. Yeah, next week drops back down a bit. Dude. Yeah. Yeah, that was sort of the idea on the motorcycle was to ride it a bit, get it ready.
• 2:43
I upgraded some parts on it today and stuff, and then I'm just gonna throw it in storage. [laughs] So it'll be all ready [laughs] for next season. Where I hope I ride it a little more, but, uh, anyway. Yeah. Yeah.
• 2:55
Good stuff. Um, I don't know. Uh, oh, hey, I talked to Wyatt the other day. Yeah? How's Wyatt doing? Wyatt is busy. Yeah, I bet he is. Wyatt's busy making fat bikes. Yeah.
• 3:05
Uh, he's so busy, in fact, that he's like eight to 10 weeks out right [laughs] now. Wow.
• 3:10
Um, but we can get a frame a little quicker, and probably can scrounge up parts to build one, you know, from scratch in four to six weeks, so we will see. A, a fat bike parts availability is very slim right now. Yeah.
• 3:26
Uh, so getting any, even getting full built fat bikes right now is hard to come by. Yeah. Well, you can't, uh- Yeah... can't get any more than they've already allocated, but there are more coming- Yeah...
• 3:36
that have been allocated. Uh, got some tires with studs on 'em. There it is. Yeah, huh? There it is. I think we talked about those already. Studs. Mm-hmm. Where the passion meets the road. But they finally came in.
• 3:45
This is our first chance to see 'em and talk about their weight and- True that. And we'll have 45Nrth in in a week or so. I'm getting a big order of tires from those cats as well. Nice.
• 3:55
Think it's gonna be a good winter for, um, people upgrading tires because it's one of the things that just makes your bike so much better. You know, if you go from a crappy,
• 4:07
you know, I don't know, I'm not gonna name names, but, you know, low thread count, heavy tire that doesn't have a good rubber compound to something that really rolls, like a 45Nrth, you're gonna notice a big difference.
• 4:19
I would even say a night and day difference. Mm. So yeah. Um, did we, did we... Talked about BrapToberfest last week, didn't we? Mm-hmm. Yeah? I don't know.
• 4:33
I just feel like I haven't really been riding my bike, [laughs] so I don't have much to say. [laughs] Me neither. I've been working on bikes, though, so we've been working on a lot of bikes. Yeah.
• 4:42
Uh, we got several fat bikes in for service and- Some new bikes... some electric bike stuff. Uh, just got our first couple of rides in on the, um, Grin all axle motor, front hub motor motor. Yeah.
• 4:56
And it is a v- fantastic. It is incredible. It's, like, buttery smooth. Yeah. It's so beautiful. It's, it's weird. It's just, yeah. And it's- We should have-... relatively light for what you get.
• 5:05
We should have JK ride it just to get his back reaction. [laughs] [laughs] Speaking of that bike, um, y- well, do you know what this is? Oh. It was used on that bike.
• 5:18
[laughs] It, it's an electric, uh, z- it's just a white piece of PVC. [laughs] It, it, it's, it's nothing special, but it's for banging on the, um, the, the sensor for the pedal assist.
• 5:29
[laughs] Oh, to get it in so you can- So you can- Yeah... mash it on there better. Good call. Yeah, it's like a, just a- It's- What? Hey, I invented a tool. It's a piece of, uh, PVC. [laughs] Is it Canadian PVC?
• 5:38
Did they send it along with it? So is it- Um-... a millimeter instead of, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, maybe. I don't know. 'Cause, you know. Some of 'em have markings on, some of 'em don't.
• 5:47
I think they go to The Home Depot and, uh- Yeah, cut down. But- Whatever they have up there in, in Canada, eh? Eh. We love you guys. Yeah. Wish they'd let us in, but they won't. [laughs] That hub is sweet, though.
• 6:00
That, that- We can, we can buy their products, but they won't let us in their country Yeah. Wow. I think you can say that about [laughs] a lot of places. Well, true right now, for sure. Yeah.
• 6:11
Uh, so yeah- [laughs] So toboggans are here. Those are those tires. Um- The toboggan... we got... We...
• 6:16
You can't get fat bike tubes to, uh, save your life right now, but we did manage to get some BDs from, uh, BTI, so if you really need a tube. They're a little... They're...
• 6:26
Uh, they, they seem a little heavier than a Surly tube, but you know what? They're available. [laughs] They're available, and they're like, you know, 14 bucks or something. Yeah. I mean...
• 6:37
Yeah, so, uh- Can't miss the boxes either now, can you? No, they're very bright. Oh, yeah. Very brightly. Yeah, they pretty much show you they're there. Highlighter riding. Yeah. Hey, they're made in Thailand too.
• 6:50
Thailand. Thailandia. What was that? We just, uh, had a fella in looking at the Wyatt Maverick Mit Oren Suspension Fork, size medium, available now. Um, and, uh, he was talking about a new Thai place in the neighborhood.
• 7:03
Yeah, it's the one right up on the corner- [clears throat]... kitty-corner from, um, Sunrise. The one that keeps changing? It... Nothing lasts there- Yeah... ever... Sticky Rice Sticky Rice is what it's called now.
• 7:12
Oh, okay. Yeah. Maybe during these trying times- Right... they will find success. Yeah. We ordered when they had a soft opening. It was okay. Yeah, I'm not- I've looked at the menu...
• 7:24
gonna say huge It looks approachable. Yeah. I don't [clears throat] know. It's right there. Maybe. [bell rings] Ah. Ah. Oh, it's- We're already at- It's an early stop 'cause, uh, I'm tired.
• 7:34
[laughs] Um, so here we are at the top of the hill. Uh- Mm. Nothing- JK, JK is the, the, the Bierna factor today, so, uh- [laughs]... let's, uh, let, let's let him describe what we got here. [laughs] Yeah.
• 7:49
[laughs] From La Crosse, Wisconsin, as well as Wyatt's. La Crosses. L-A Cross. Yeah. Pearl Street Brewery's Shitty Light beer. I'm gonna take a swallow now while you continue- Yeah... with the description.
• 8:02
[laughs] It actually says Shitty- Yeah, it's-... right on the can. [laughs] Shitty Light with a Y, like MC Light. Uh, independent American craft lager. Indeed.
• 8:13
Answering their question essentially, you know, we don't make a Shitty Light beer. Well, now they did. It's a good Shitty Light beer, if that makes sense. It- Yeah... you know, it's... It is. Yeah, yeah. It really is.
• 8:25
It's, it's a d- like a dad beer, but tastes a little better. Somebody s- somebody told them they couldn't do it, so- Let me... Watch, watch me do this... they, they did it. Yeah. Um, you know- It's truly drinkable...
• 8:35
it's got... It... You got your good water up there in La Crosse, for sure. Yeah. Yeah. 4.2 ABV. They don't pasteurize it. Yeah? Mm. So- 112 calories... I don't know. Is it, is it like a MGD then, kind of in that realm?
• 8:48
'Cause I don't think that's pasteurized either. Uh, I don't know. It is, uh, it is... It reminds me of Hamm's a little bit. Mm-hmm. But it's good. Has kind of a sweet- I'm gonna have, I'm gonna have another quaff. Quaff.
• 9:01
[laughs] That allows the pure, clean flavor to shine through. They use a single strain of clean lager yeast and cold fermented. Good water helps too, and L.A. Cross has some of the best. Oh my God.
• 9:15
Oh yeah, I kind of jumped the script there, hey? No, no, no. [laughs] It just reinforces. Has some of the best water in the best beer state in the country. So I didn't know...
• 9:22
I thought Hamm's was made in Wisconsin, but I guess it was made in Minnesota. Yeah. Snowta. Minnesota. Could be. Yeah.
• 9:29
Now, the thing is, like- Unless they moved, and now it's made in Milwaukee, so it doesn't really count, but- And Pearl Street products are kinda hard to come by in southeastern Wisconsin. Where did you find them?
• 9:39
I got it at Woodman's. Wood- Ay caramba... man's. Ay caramba. Weed Man [laughs] At The Blunt Clinic. As a joint specialist. [laughs] I, I mean, it's- It just writes itself...
• 9:56
it's the, it's the God's honest truth, folks. I don't know why he says that- It's really a real place... but it's very funny. Oh, Lord... that's where Kim used to work. Oh. [laughs] Dr. Weedman, and, uh- [laughs]...
• 10:03
he was a joint specialist surgeon, and he had a place called The Blunt Clinic. [laughs] No. No. This stuff does- No... it just writes itself. [laughs] It's like perfect. 128%. That's so awesome. [laughs] Yeah.
• 10:17
I, I don't know what happened to him. He's got kinda old and stuff, right? Yeah. Or a little bit nutty professor-like. Kind of, in that- Yeah... in that zone. Yeah. Kim worked for him for quite a while. Yeah.
• 10:27
10 years maybe. I don't know. A long time. Yeah, he still pops around, I do believe. But yeah, the, uh... Yeah, it's just hard to find this beer. You finding more parts in there? Yeah.
• 10:37
But, I mean, is it- Is it gonna make it work? No. [laughs] Damn it, no. Um, some, some, some bars will have it, bars and restaurants. Tony's playing with a Sturmey Archer hub that he doesn't think it's the right width.
• 10:48
I don't think it's the right width. Yeah, I think it was a 130 or something like that. Yeah. That's a mountain bike though. It's not gonna take a 130. [laughs] Yeah, 130, 135, just smash it together a little bit.
• 11:00
To continue- It's, it's fine. It's a steel bike. You can bend the heck out of that thing. Yeah, yeah. I got a, I got a frame bending thing over here. We can just, uh...
• 11:07
Otherwise, you know what else we could check is if, uh, Paragon has anything that has spacing on the inside of that dropout to narrow the track. Mm.
• 11:16
What you're gonna wanna go ahead and do over there is, uh, figure out what OLD that thing is that you actually need- [laughs]... when it's all put together, and then we can make it work. Oh. That's what we're gonna do.
• 11:27
You know why? Check it out. 'Cause that's what we're gonna do. 'Cause we're a bike shop. Yeah. [laughs] And that's what we do. [laughs] We make that, that stuff work, even- We make that shit work...
• 11:34
but don't bring us any Chinese Amazon electric wheels, please. So, okay, hold on. Hold on there, Tony. Tony, hold on a second. Just, just hold on. Hold on. Hold it. Hold, hold on to it. It's starting to get away.
• 11:45
He's getting all over there. Thought he was going to get beer. [laughs] He's not going to get beer. Oh, it's not- Okay, we're talking amongst ourselves. JK, how are you? Yeah. Oh, not bad.
• 11:57
If he, if, if he, uh, uh, going to get a beer? No. [laughs] Get back, get back, get back. Flannel Fest livestream this Saturday. Livestream. Livestream. Yeah. Oh. Okay, what you got there? All right, so now I have
• 12:12
a coaster brake hub. So you can eyeball that one and see if you're thinking that it's that width, but that's got spacers on it, see there now- Yeah, I can see it... to make it 135. See if it fits in your frame.
• 12:26
Maybe your frame's b- bent. Maybe you're bent. Maybe you should get bent. [laughs] Get bent, man. Get bent, you hoser. Yeah. Hey, uh, what do you think about your Showers Pass jacket? I like it.
• 12:38
I haven't worn it a ton, but, um, I do dig it. I like the s- soft touch- I totally dig it... feel of it. Yeah... which is very, very nice, very nice to the hand. Yeah. It has a nice hand, I guess, is what- [laughs]...
• 12:52
fabric people would say. So just see if that drops in. There you are. There you go. Hey, guess what else is happening? What? Uh, The Shark is making a comeback. Yeah. No, no. That's right. No, no.
• 13:05
It, it- No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no... it's, uh, it's my partner John's- Wee ooh... creation. He's got a des- yeah, he's got a design patent on the thing. It's- That's pretty cool... I love it.
• 13:13
And, uh, we did sell a few of them for a while, but Waterford was making them, and they were just God-awful expensive to build. And, um, we just kinda let it languish for a little bit, but with the
• 13:26
availability of decent electric motor systems now, it's time to electrify The Shark, and that's what that bike ne- needed. That, that's what that bike needs. It needs it.
• 13:35
That, that- You know, it's- That becomes a Las Vegas bike... it, it's any retirement community, any- Yeah... any golf community, any RV park. You know, it's, it, it's- Yeah...
• 13:43
gonna appeal to a slightly older, uh, gentleman who's probably retired or, you know- Just having fun... has money to burn on something- Yeah... kickass, and he wants to be the coolest guy in the park. Yeah.
• 13:56
He's gonna jump the shark with The Shark. [laughs] Nice. Yeah, you can- Um- Well, we could probably pull that off if we get the right motor. [laughs] So here's the thing we're gonna do.
• 14:04
We're gonna make three prototypes, 'cause we have s- a few frames left. Three Sharks. Uh, one is gonna be just a Bafang mid-drive just to test out the location of a mid-drive motor, how it feels on it. Bafang. Bafang.
• 14:16
That one will be the first one. Then we're gonna do a rear hub motor. Boi-oi-oi-ing. And then I've got this idea for a two motor Shark- Pa-pow... with a, with the small, um, Bafang 310, 311. That would be fun. Pa-pow.
• 14:32
Pow. Yeah. With, with the, with the phase runner from Grin Technologies up there in Canada. Yeah. You can run two separate motors. You can even, you- You can run two batteries too, can't you?
• 14:40
You, you can even vary the torque between them. Nice. Yep, yeah. So you could put 60 in the back and 40 in the front, or whatever you wanna do. We gotta do that.
• 14:46
  I don't know, that's a bunch of button pushing, but- Mm-hmm, mm-hmm...
• 14:48
you know, it, it is possible, and they have just a really great software system that I am woefully inadequate at figuring out right now, but- You did push the button... we will. We're getting there. We're getting there.
• 14:58
We're getting- We're getting there... you did push the button. Yeah, that software I th- got figured out. Good deal. I can finally remember to push the button. [laughs] Yep, so- Just, it just fed itself...
• 15:07
um, and kind of along with the whole Shark plan is we're moving. Yeah. We're gonna move the shop. Been thinking about it for a while, but we're gonna move it about a mile up the street,
• 15:19
and I've kinda got it all planned out now, and we have a, we have a plan. Man with a plan. So basically we'll be here for sure until Christmas, and then maybe- X-mas...
• 15:29
we're going to start consolidating over January, February. And by the time, hopefully, when the season kicks in, we'll be in the new space 100% [laughs] and ready to, to, to go.
• 15:42
But, you know, in the meantime, we're still taking by appointment, so. Yeah. Don't think you can't come and buy everything in the store if you want to. Yeah. [laughs] Certainly, that is well within the realm.
• 15:51
It'll make the move a little easier. Yeah, you know- [laughs]... cash lying in the pocket would make it look a lot cooler over there than- Yeah... than with no money in the pocket. Yeah, absolutely.
• 16:00
Um, so we're gonna have a space in a building with a bunch of other businesses. There's a artist collective. There's a...
• 16:09
I, I think he's gonna put a private boxing ring in there and just have, like, training and small spectator sports. [laughs] It'd be kind of cool. When I worked at the Illuminati- Yeah...
• 16:16
they had one of those on the first floor. Oh, yeah, yeah. It was pretty, pretty badass, actually. Yeah. Yeah. The Hide, Hide House. Well, I don't know, it's not a done deal yet. Yeah, the Hide House, yeah.
• 16:22
But, you know- Yeah, yeah, that's where I did the, uh, uh, one of the stops for the rollout- Nice... gallery night. Nice. Was that, uh- And, and I was just, like, hanging out there, and I'm like, "What the hell is this?"
• 16:31
The shop was in there at one point, right? The shop was across the street. Okay. Yeah. But it was in that complex there. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, but it was, yeah- Okay, yeah...
• 16:37
it was like that, that, that entranceway of- Right on... where, where the stop was, and it was like... And then every so often they open up the door, and I'm like, "Is that a freaking boxing ring in there?"
• 16:44
[laughs] I'm like- Yeah, you could kinda see it-... "Oh, and that now-"... from the little deck... in that building- [laughs]... on the top floor is the Dutch company that bought all the patents for, um, Instamatic film.
• 16:58
Polaroid. Polaroid. Polaroid. And they have the remanufacturing of- SX-70s... and other, yes, camera-type things in the top floor there.
• 17:10
I wanna take mine over there, and just because I live in Milwaukee, I want them to do it for a very low price. Yeah, I think they will. I mean, mine works- And what's funny is they don't pay.
• 17:17
They're, they're all, uh, MSOE interns. Oh, boy. Well, I have a 1970. It does work. I just don't remember if, what it looked like when it worked before, if it, if it was- Better? It...
• 17:29
Yeah, I don't know if it was better. It's a picture quality or... Yeah. I mean, outside it works fine. It is not an inside thing without a flash, for sure. Right, right.
• 17:36
Um, but it, I f- I forget what the old Polaroid stuff looked like. It just, it looked kinda- Yeah... soft and whatnot. That's what it looks like.
• 17:42
But yeah, that's in the top of that, that building of the Hide House, that section of the Hide House, if you will. Here's, here's- Yeah... James on a ladder.
• 17:49
Did- See, I mean, that's what- Yeah, that's, that seems Polaroid-y. Yeah, I mean, I don't know if it gets better than that. Right. Right, yeah, I don't know. I mean, it, it's pretty good. I mean, it's recognizable.
• 17:57
It was pretty cool. And, you know, I don't know what they are now, but that's, like, a buck and a half per shot or something. Right, right. [laughs] You don't wanna just go burning 'em off. Right.
• 18:06
Um- Unless you're in your 60s... I guess so. That, oh, that's when we were boarding up from the, uh- Right... just the I don't know. I mean- It wasn't really a ride, it was protesting...
• 18:14
No, and it was, we basically did it because everybody else in the building did it- Yeah... and you don't wanna be the only one that has the- Target... the target. [laughs] But I, I was, it never was an issue. No. Sue.
• 18:25
Really. But that's, that's good. That, that's good. That's good. That's good. Good. [laughs] I like that. Good. Thanks. I like that. Good. Uh-oh. Thanks. We found a hidden gem here. Oh.
• 18:35
I didn't even, we didn't even discuss this before we, uh, before we went on the air or, uh, today at all. Tony is officially a foster dad. Yes, I am. Yes, I am. I, uh- Yeah... passed the FBI blueprint with me.
• 18:46
That, that's a hidden gem if I ever saw one right there. Man, they, uh, blueprinted me on Monday and we found out at noon today. Fingerprinted? Uh, fingerprinted, yeah.
• 18:54
[laughs] Well, I- What are you, some kind of droid or something? Shh. What kind of FBI was it? What kind of- I have to kill you... FBI were they? [laughs] Fucking bastard institute or something? Guys, I'm sorry.
• 19:02
[laughs] Oh, this was the last- You can't do that now that they have your fingerprints... VK makes it 200, I'm sorry. [laughs] After that, it's all gone.
• 19:09
Um, yeah, no, they had to fingerprint me and, and then the rest of the paperwork, which is intimidating to say the least, has been completed, and we got word at lunchtime today that, uh,
• 19:20
we are officially foster parents, and hopefully by February we are now a, uh- [laughs]... have a regular old child. He's having, he's just eyeballing a part and just- Yeah, I kind of want him...
• 19:31
contemplating it with- Yeah... about 90%, and you're, you're getting 10% of Tony right now. [laughs] [laughs] When he, when he's talking, so. I'm just kind of excited about what's going down. Yeah.
• 19:42
So- What's going down, daddy-o? Yeah. [laughs] Uh, what else we got? I don't know. Shit worth doing. This is the same shit we've had on here the last [laughs] couple weeks.
• 19:53
Santa Rampage and freaking Global Fat Bike Day coming up in a month. We're doing some trail- Is it-... trail building at the Alpha... the same weekend as Frost Bike? A, uh, virtual ride. That's in February probably.
• 20:05
I don't know. Huh? Stop frostbiking. The Alpha [laughs] Alpha Trails. Oh, out there in, uh- They're doing some trail building... St. Franklinville? Oh, yeah. What is that down there? This... Yeah, Franklin. St., St.
• 20:17
Francisville? Just Franklin. Franklin. Franklin. All right. Doing some, doing some of that. So that's down there in south of Milwaukee a little bit. Trail maintenance? Yeah, doing some trail building.
• 20:25
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's really wet down in there a lot. I think they're probably gonna bypass- It's wet... a lot of that shit Is it wet or is it moist? Moist. Moist. Moist. Yeah, I think it would be good.
• 20:34
Yeah, Saturday from 10:00 to 1:00. 'Cause I've been down there, like, in the middle of the summer when every other trail's already pretty dried out unless you get a really major rain.
• 20:40
But there, there's just these spots that are kinda often, so yeah, I think that's a good thing. Weird. That said, I don't go mountain biking where I, where, where I of- [laughs] Wherey of. Wherey often from.
• 20:54
My name is Wherey Woo. Um, uh, his name was actually Larry Lou, but, uh, anyway. So, um, I don't really drive my bike to go ride anymore much. Sure.
• 21:06
I think if I'm gonna drive my bike somewhere to ride it, I'm gonna, like, go way out west or something instead of just... I, there's enough good city stuff- I totally hear that... and it's just like- Yep...
• 21:16
