- 3:32we're going back in time. We're gonna take the time machine. We're gonna
- 3:37go back to two thousand and two, and we're gonna talk about no mercy
- 3:42be you know what. I'm not gonna do it alone here with me my
- 3:45co host. What's up, Trey Yoh? What did do? PCW crew?
- 4:19What's going on? Two thousand and two? How old were you in
- 4:24two thousand and two? I was twenty one, twenty one, oh man,
- 4:30I was young as ship twenty two. Wow, all right, let's
- 4:36uh, let's bring on our other co hosts. Oh my god, you
- 4:48know what I have the fong music here? Oh, box to media,
- 4:55you know what? I have old music in here? What was I doing?
- 4:59What was I thinking? Oh, man, don't worry, don't worry.
- 5:02The WW has had these problems before. We can fix it. Uh
- 5:08fix it in problem. Didn't realize I was co hosting with myself. Yeah,
- 5:12listening, it's out all right now, I got it. Yeah right,
- 5:16It's like for a while I was like, wait a second, I
- 5:19just pulled. Uh. Man, if I was a guy backstage, i'd
- 5:23be fired so quickly. All right, let's try this again. He had
- 5:29me think of that old John claud band damn movie Double Impact Doyle. Oh
- 5:55it's me, it's me. It's a d O. I l e U
- 5:58coming from a relatively smoke free Philadelphia where I can finally breathe. But you
- 6:04can't get out or you can't get in because the highways are collapsed so much.
- 6:12Yeah, I heard about that. How bad is the traffic up there?
- 6:15Now? I don't drive, so it doesn't affect me a tick,
- 6:17but I've heard that it's a fucking living nightmare. Really, I can imagine
- 6:24because that's the entire Did they shut down the entire instate or just a lane?
- 6:29Yeah, the northbound completely collapsed and the southbound was compromised enough that they
- 6:36have to pull all that down too. So that's gonna be months. Jesus,
- 6:42I'm not coming to Philly anytime soon. Look, no, no way
- 6:47now that traffic. Hopefully they'll have a face before WrestleMania. God, I
- 6:53hope. I'll tell you what, if businesses are smart, they will rack
- 6:56up on bicycles and scooters and ship man wave people to get around. Yeah,
- 7:02that's like a major thoroughfare for the East Coast, you know what I
- 7:05mean, Like, oh yeah lane, you know, like that's gonna fuck
- 7:09up a lot. Oh yeah yeah, especially with um imagine like shipping and
- 7:15transport between the truck drivers and ship that take ninety five and I imagine a
- 7:19bunch of them run through Philadelphia. Yeah, it's gonna be rough in the
- 7:24Northeast for a while. Oh yeah, yeah, it's kind Besides the smoke,
- 7:28now we gotta now we're gonna have traffic jams. First it was the
- 7:30water, Now it was smoke. Now we just can't win here in Pennsylvania.
- 7:35Yeah, Like I said, if I lived there or not had to
- 7:39deal with that, I'd be looking for a bike right now. Like I'm
- 7:42just riding a bike everywhere from here on out. I'm not even taking my
- 7:45car nowhere. All right, guys, Well today we're gonna change things up
- 7:53to things a little different because we have a nice gap between pay per views.
- 7:57You know, it's kind of nice. After Instimania season, we get
- 8:01like Wrestimania Backlash and Night of Champions and you know, we got a Saudi
- 8:05Arabia and come back and it's just it's exhausting. So it's nice that they
- 8:09give us a break. You know. We had. The last pay per
- 8:13view was on a Saturday one in the afternoon, which was so freaking weird,
- 8:18you know. I mean, it's it's weird enough that the past couple
- 8:20of years they changed the pay per views from Sunday night to Saturday night,
- 8:24which I actually enjoy, but you know, having those that pay per view
- 8:30at one time or two times a year where it's like smack in the middle
- 8:33of the day. Yeah, but if you if you like that, you're
- 8:35gonna love money in the bank because we're getting another one. Yeah, I
- 8:39think it's at three o'clock. Yeah, I'm not sure. Uh, just
- 8:46you know, we gotta get used to it. We can't always have it,
- 8:48you know. Uh So we're gonna do No Mercy two thousand and two.
- 8:56Now. I know it's funny because I always get No Mercy and No
- 9:00Way Out always mixed up. So I myself almost started watching No Way Out
- 9:05and I was like, wait a second, this isn't the one I picked,
- 9:09Drey, I think you had that. Yeah, that was my first
- 9:11thought when you said No Mercy. The first thing that came to my mind
- 9:15was No Way Out two thousand and two. I'm thinking nWo and all that
- 9:18shit. Yeah, right right for me, you know, thinking back to
- 9:22I actually had to like look at the card and look at the storylines,
- 9:26and you know, it's been a long long time since I've seen this,
- 9:31and it kind of reminded me of like the first pay per view to one
- 9:37of the first pay per views to really kick off the brand split that they
- 9:41had after WrestleMania, you know, the introduction to the Undispeeded title which was
- 9:48on Brock and then the World title now on Raw and kinda there's a lot
- 9:54of things in this pay per view that made me think of modern day things
- 9:56that were going through and that was one of them, like, you know,
- 10:01extra titles here, and then also what happens with the Intercontinal title here?
- 10:07And for the past year, the Intercontinal title has really been elevated,
- 10:13you know, with Guther just reaching a year recently actually, So to see
- 10:20what happens, they throw what's nice, They throw a little vignette, a
- 10:24little video package of the historied Intercontinent title, which I thought was pretty nice
- 10:28and you know, kind of convenient for our modern day situation. You know.
- 10:35Well, it's weird because they're consolidating titles. They they unify the Hardcore
- 10:41and the European into the Intercontinental title, but they're adding this ridiculous second tag
- 10:48team championships, which you could argue they never really needed two. That's the
- 10:54tag Belt. That's a whole different story. Amazingly, was maybe the match
- 11:00of the decade, but we'll get to that later. Yeah. Um,
- 11:03yes, it takes place in North Little Rock, Arkansas. At tendance was
- 11:09over ten thousand, but the buy rate was over three hundred thousand. Well,
- 11:13yeah, this is this is the first and only so far pay per
- 11:18view in Arkansas, and part of the reason I think you just you mentioned
- 11:24the ten thousand tickets sold. According to Meltzer, they only a week before
- 11:28they had only sold four thousand, when to me, it's about half of
- 11:31that audience is paper, you know, is giveaways. Oh yeah, and
- 11:37the building holds uh well, who It's hard to say what the capacity for
- 11:41wrestling would be, but just for comparison's sake, for basketball holds eighteen thousand,
- 11:46for hockey it holds seventeen thousand, for arena football holds sixteen thousand.
- 11:50They configured it to hold twelve twelve thousand, five hundred. They only got
- 11:56ten thousand people in the duat. So, yeah, the business is down
- 12:01at this point. And you you mentioned the three thousand, uh I'm sorry,
- 12:07the three hundred thousand by rate to the lowest buy rate of any pay
- 12:11per view in two thousand and two, but it was higher than the next
- 12:15five Uh no mercies. Uh was kind of interesting. Uh. And yeah,
- 12:20Rock and Stone called have left at this point, and they're bringing in
- 12:24they I mean, they always call it a male soap opera. They actually
- 12:26brought in soap opera writers at this point, which led to some great storylines
- 12:33which we will discuss. Yeah, I definitely remember that, but I mean
- 12:39I literally couldn't give tickets away to the show. Yeah yeah. And like
- 12:43this is like when the brand split I guess really did kick off, because
- 12:48they didn't really have a brand split before this, right, Uh, this
- 12:54was fairly I would say this is probably fairly early on within the brand split.
- 12:56Yeah yeah, yeah, pay per view maybe maybe, yeah. Yeah,
- 13:01because Brock Lessner when he was champion, you know, that's when they
- 13:05decided to give Triple Asia world title. I mean like literally just give it
- 13:09to him, handed over it. Yeah yeah. At the time, when
- 13:13Lesner won the title at SummerSlam, that was still the only title. They
- 13:16hadn't introduced the World Headweight Championship yet. M And like it's funny because we
- 13:22kind of got that too, because you know, uh, there was a
- 13:24point where those were two titles, the old WCW Big Golden Bell and the
- 13:30WW title at Jericho one, and then you know, once Triple H got
- 13:33it, they were able to merge him into one undisputed title, which what's
- 13:37brock swearing. And we kind of saw that recently with Roman Reigns getting his
- 13:43Universal title in the WW title into a golden you know, basically just and
- 13:50to me it looks like the same title, just gold. I don't think
- 13:52like that belt that Snoop Dogg runs around with somewhat. Yeah, I don't
- 13:56think t was the first one of Rock the Undisputed. I think the Undisputed
- 14:01title actually debuted with Hulk Hogan maybe you know what it may have it may
- 14:11have been with I think it was because Triple As got it, Hogan beat
- 14:16him for it, and somewhere around there, I believe they introduced the Undisputed
- 14:18title and it was smaller, and then around what was whatever pay per view
- 14:26it was in July that had the Triple Threat match with Rock Hogan and I
- 14:28mean not Rock Rock undertaking curd Angle. Around that time, they sized up
- 14:35the Undisputed title and made a much larger because I think people marked on how
- 14:39small it looked when it first debuted. Yeah, oh yeah, yeah for
- 14:43sure, yeah that one once or some tweaking throughout the years, like it
- 14:48was really shiny gold and then it came to like a like almost like a
- 14:52bronze kind of gold. I don't know how to really explain it, Like
- 14:56it was darker. It wasn't a shiny you know. I remember like,
- 15:01uh where it was going back and forth between Kurt Angle and Broun Lesner and
- 15:07when Eddie Guerrerow finally got the you know, GBL possibly But uh, I
- 15:13like whatever version this is, I like it. I thought it looked good.
- 15:16Yeah, yeah, I like it too. Um. You know,
- 15:20it didn't need a massive W in the center for us to know it was
- 15:24you know ww title like geeze. That was actually one of the things I
- 15:30know that, Like all of the titles are like that, right, they
- 15:33have a tiny little logo at the top or whatever. None of them are
- 15:37do I mean every single belt is different now, yeah, and none of
- 15:41them are dominated by the logo. Yeah, I mean, like the reason
- 15:46is because of branded you know, like yeah, Hunters sending the Denver Nuggets
- 15:52a belt, you know, and what does it have a giant fucking uh
- 15:54wwflogo or sorry WWE logo on it? Uh? And that's not a mistake,
- 16:00you know. Yeah. Um. This is also coming hot off of
- 16:06the pay per view before it, which is Unforgiven, and the one after
- 16:10this is Rebellion. So these are two pay per view names I haven't heard
- 16:14in a long time unforgiven and rebellion, so we didn't get rebellion here in
- 16:21the States exactly. Yeah, yep, Manchester, England. So h yeah,
- 16:30let's start off with this card. The first match to kick off is
- 16:33the wh is the world title because the SmackDown with the WWE, So yeah,
- 16:41the World tag title, which I like that style. They did change
- 16:45it later, which I was okay with, but like I did like this
- 16:49original old school style because then when they introduced we'll talk about later the SmackDown
- 16:53ones, the Smackdowns were just a blue version of them, I think,
- 16:57like just more blue on them. They they didn't start, uh changing the
- 17:03trap colors. Yeah, well this is this is the title that uh,
- 17:07you know the Heart Foundation had and the Legion of Doom had, and you
- 17:12know all those Strike Force had and but this this linear the lineage of this
- 17:18title is dormant at this point, it's no longer the the belts that u
- 17:23Ko and um Sammy are currently holding have no association with this, with this
- 17:30championship anymore. So. Um, it was funny because when Jericho came out,
- 17:37Uh, I was like wondering what version of Jericho we were getting throughout
- 17:41the years. You know because Jericho has changed so much throughout the years.
- 17:45Um. In this match, Uh, we didn't step on the pyro though
- 17:49at the beginning, which I did like about this time period of wrestling.
- 17:56Um. Actually, before I set this match, there was a dark match
- 18:00forehand with a Hurricane defeating Stephen Richards in three minutes in five seconds. Because
- 18:06it's not even on the pay per view, like, so it's definitely a
- 18:08dark match. Just weird that's not listed as a dark match. Uh.
- 18:12And for the tag titles here, we have Chris, Jericho and Christian uh
- 18:18defeating Booker T and gold Dust. Um. I actually like Christian and and
- 18:23Jericho. Like Jericho has gone through many tacting partners throughout the years. I
- 18:29think Christian was like one of my favorites. Uh. This is pre cut
- 18:34hair Christian pre Uh you know better theme music, Christian? You know I
- 18:41like this theme music? You like this? I don't like this. I
- 18:44think I think I don't like his look at all. Yeah, that's a
- 18:48bit of a spoiler. Uh yeah he looks it looks like he looks like
- 18:55spark Bob spark Plug Holly. Yeah right, he first came out, UM,
- 19:00gold Dust and Booker team as a tag team. You know, I
- 19:03didn't enjoy them as a tag team for a while. I know they were
- 19:06like a hard team to get together. Um. I kind of remind me
- 19:10maybe a little bit of like Randy Orton and Matt Riddle, Like, you
- 19:14know, two guys who don't work don't think they would work well together,
- 19:18but you know they actually do have some good chemistry. So you know,
- 19:22I always like them as a tag team. Booker Team went through a bunch
- 19:26of tag team partners along with gold Dust. Uh, it's kind of funny,
- 19:30I think, let me senor. Oh, so, Booker Team is
- 19:33probably like the only guy who's retired right now, right, Christian is still
- 19:37active and gold Dust and jerco On a well, he was retired, but
- 19:41he was in the Rumble this year, you know, like yeah, yeah,
- 19:45but he said that was pretty much it for him. He said after
- 19:48that, Yeah, it's amazing that you've seen all for these dudes on your
- 19:52television screen this year. It's still going, yeah, um, match well
- 20:00for eight minutes forty six seconds, So this guy's got a lot of time
- 20:03here. Um. Uh, we're probably gonna talk about later, but do
- 20:08you guys believe when Jericho did the line, tried to do the lion saw
- 20:12and he broke the second roupe. Do you guys think that was a plant
- 20:15or do you think that like was a legit accident because I just saw it
- 20:21again and it looked like it was an accident. Wasn't meant to be it
- 20:25does, but it looks like he's going to the lion saw hooker who isn't
- 20:29on the ground right, So like that that that that's the thing. And
- 20:34and I give credit to Jericho because if it was a mistake, they sure
- 20:41made it pretty smooth. You know. I feel like, um, a
- 20:47lot of guys or a lot of talent would be lost, you know,
- 20:51or there would be a visible like oh fuck, what do we do now
- 20:53kind of moment, and it was pretty smooth. Um. Uh, you
- 21:00know, he was lucky he didn't break his neck. Uh, you know,
- 21:03he fell his you know, I say what you want to about Jericho,
- 21:07but uh, you know, a match with with four pretty much legends.
- 21:12I mean you could you probably put dust In at the at the bottom
- 21:17of that tier if you want, but he stood out. You know,
- 21:21he stands out as probably the legendist you know, uh, just for for
- 21:26the situation awareness being able to pivot, you know, just spur the moment,
- 21:33figure out a new plan um. And he's kind of got a history
- 21:37of that. Uh. I remember Jeff Hardy Surprise Surprise was botching a whisper
- 21:45in the wind whatever it's called, and he was going to dump on his
- 21:48head and Jericho ran up and kind of pushed him and say from that,
- 21:52you know it kind of similar situation. Uh, He's um, yeah,
- 22:00I mean he's real great with just you know, knowing what's going on and
- 22:03making the right decision, you know, spur of the moment um. It
- 22:07kind of watching someone else watched it back. I think I don't think that
- 22:11was planning. That had to have been a mistake because it looks like Jericho
- 22:15is going not necessarily for the lion sault, but that springboard drop kick he
- 22:18normally did. He did, Yeah, that's what it looks like he's going
- 22:22for. Then the rope just completely gives out on him, and even the
- 22:26referee looks shocked in the moment, and it's like trying to look and see
- 22:29what happened. So just to plan something like that, like what, what
- 22:34doesn't plan a rope break exactly? I know, you got to remember the
- 22:41Rockers first title tag title win. No, I do not remember what happened.
- 22:48Well, it wasn't it. It was in a non televisor right,
- 22:52well, yeah, it was. Its supposed to be four um for Saturday
- 22:56Night's main event. They were they were two out of three falls with the
- 23:00Heart Foundation and uh during this between the first fall and the second fall,
- 23:04the top rope breaks. Uh. And I mean it's fucking it's it's Brett
- 23:10and Shawn. You know like that you couldn't pick two better people to be
- 23:14Uh in that scenario, I don't think. Uh, Brett put Shawan and
- 23:18a front face lok forever. And you can tell, like you know,
- 23:22in retrospect, you go back and look at it. Um, they're clearly
- 23:25figuring out what the hell they're gonna do. They end up putting the top
- 23:27rope back on blah blah blah, but Vince hated it so he didn't never
- 23:30aired the match. Um, Andville was supposed to leave the company ended up
- 23:36signing an extension so the Hart Foundation didn't end up dropping the titles then anyway,
- 23:41Rockers ended up never winning the titles. Uh. Sorry, I was
- 23:45like back to this, he goes for it looked like he was going to
- 23:52go for the lion saw, and I was wondering if that's how he was
- 23:53going to finish the match. But he makes up for it by doing uh
- 23:57you know, basically a moonsaw off the top rope, which I don't see
- 24:00Jericho doing a whole lot of uh you know, the kind of policy too,
- 24:03right, like trusting that jap oh yeah, on all your weight on
- 24:07that to do a soult. But for me, this this match was just
- 24:12the middle of the road, you know, three you know out of five.
- 24:18It was a good way just to kick off the pay per view.
- 24:21Uh. You know, at this time period, we have a lot of
- 24:23title matches on the card, which is uh you know, as as we
- 24:27see going on, sometimes they start taking this title matches off. But it
- 24:33looks pretty heavy for this card. Uh yeah. I gave it a three
- 24:40out of five too. It was a decent, little, fast paced match
- 24:42just to get the crowd warmed up and going. You know, obviously got
- 24:47four good workers in the ring, so you know, they all showed good
- 24:49chemistry with each other and great you know, uh on the fly thinking with
- 24:56the rope break, so and they managed to pull it off. In without
- 25:00anybody getting injured and still have a decent finish. So yeah, three out
- 25:03of five. Cool. Yeah, I feel like I criticized the product these
- 25:11days because I'm I'm often critical of the opening match, But here, I
- 25:17thought that was a great opening match. You know, solid what was it?
- 25:21Nine minutes? Just about it pretty much NonStop? Yeah, it's pretty
- 25:26much now. You know, if it had gone twelve minutes, that means
- 25:29there's two three minutes of rest holes in there, you know what I mean,
- 25:32I could live without that. Uh, we just having a you know,
- 25:34pretty much NonStop action. Um we talked about I forgot the book or
- 25:41T and gold Dust were a tag team for so long. They're talking,
- 25:45they talk about in this match, what they're gonna call themselves. They I
- 25:49guess they arrived at book Dust and I remember right that, right, but
- 25:53you know I remember It's it's just funny to me and like it seems like
- 25:57such a flash in the pan, but I us they were together for a
- 26:00little while anyway. Yeah, I don't one thing I never understood that Shattered
- 26:06dreams the gold Dust does. Why is that not a DQ when everybody else
- 26:10getting punched in the balls is a DQ? I never made sense to me.
- 26:15And I talk about this a lot. All the all the flashbulbs when
- 26:19book is doing the spin of Rooney kind of miss uh miss a big moment
- 26:26and all the flash. You know, it kind of gives a machine,
- 26:30if you know, almost makes a moment feel special. Yeah right, yeah,
- 26:34I kind of lose that with the cell phone era anyway. But yeah,
- 26:38I gave it three stars. I thought it was a solid opener,
- 26:42NonStop action. Four legends, can't go wrong with that. Well, it's
- 26:48funny that you bring that up because I actually mentioned to my girlfriend, like
- 26:52when we were watching, it's like, you know, what are some things
- 26:55you notice in the crowd alone that you don't get a lot today? And
- 26:57besides the the flash photography, like how he would like light up you know,
- 27:03the entire stadium, like when you know Seaw Michaels would do a supercake
- 27:07or Rob Van Dan would do a five star frog splash, you know what
- 27:11I mean, Like when we know these moves are coming, like the flash
- 27:15is insane back then, yeah, but you got conditioned to it for everything.
- 27:18I mean, the opening the Super Bowl, like you know, like
- 27:22yeah, exactly. Another one was the amount of signs oh yeah, the
- 27:26signs are outrageous. Yeah, Like now is people trying to promote themselves,
- 27:32you know, podcasts, social media whatever or just a lot just get confiscated
- 27:37nowadays, like they're just so strict with things being on the Internet and you
- 27:42know, besides just cable TV. So I mean there was a sign not
- 27:48too long ago that said the tribal quiff and the guy got his signed confiscated,
- 27:52you know, you know obviously because it was on hardpan camera. But
- 28:00yeah, signs. That was another one. So between these matches there's a
- 28:06lot of promos I noticed, which I don't have a problem with. I
- 28:10I kind of miss having a good amount of promos during the pay per view
- 28:15nowadays, I feel like all we get is just like recaps. You know,
- 28:21even when you're watching an episode of Raw, we get recaps on all
- 28:26this crap that happen on SmackDown. I like having the story at least you
- 28:30see what the take of stuff kind of goes all throughout the whole show.
- 28:34Yeah, when I'm want to do that with the bloodline now. But yeah,
- 28:38yeah, it's like something that's missing. I think the feud is getting
- 28:42a full recap. So like if you know, it basically catches you up
- 28:45with everything that you may have missed a if you missed a couple of weeks
- 28:48in this feud or even going back and watching this now, I believe that
- 28:55the video packages that they put together then was pretty good for me to catch
- 29:00up for the whole like feud of what was going on, because I totally
- 29:03remember this Dawn Marie Tory Wilson feud. Um we have Funaki interviewing Al with
- 29:11Al Wilson, Uh, Tory Wilson's father. So the storyline would go that
- 29:19Dawn Marie is trying to get Al Wilson, you know, eventually to get
- 29:25married, you know, and just to get to Tory. Uh. And
- 29:30you know, they recap a scene that happened a few weeks ago of Al
- 29:34Wilson and Don Mury caught in shower and Tory walks in on it. But
- 29:41you know the best part is Dawn Mrie was you know, completely topless,
- 29:45but Al was like in his clothes, he was fully clothed. Uh.
- 29:52And uh, you know, they they recapped to like, you know,
- 29:55another few weeks ago where Don Murrie gives you know, Al Wills in her
- 30:00hotel key and I think it's funny because the magazine she opens with with her
- 30:04inside it, and I was like, I had that magazine like that exact
- 30:10one. Uh. But yeah, I enjoyed the Funaki interview, his interview.
- 30:15It's always funny, you know. Again, I chuckle out of him.
- 30:19He still works with the company. He does the uh commentator commentating for
- 30:25the Japanese. I believe because time was that this whole segment was to set
- 30:32up a Bill Clinton Joe because they were in Arkansas, and at that point,
- 30:36it was like a five year old joke. It's so so Vince,
- 30:41we'll make a joke about you know, like, uh, do you guys
- 30:48remember this this storyline at all. I vaguely remembered it when I saw her
- 30:55dad, I was like, oh, yeah, that was a thing back
- 30:56then. But that was that was it? Did he end up dying on
- 31:00screen? Yeah? Wasn't that part of the story later? Like this goes
- 31:04on for a while, right, does it goes on too long? Like
- 31:08fucking three minutes? It's too long? This was awful, But I'm pretty
- 31:15sure yeah, exactly exactly. Or he dies in storyline, Yeah he does,
- 31:22because I think they get married and then right, yes, was that
- 31:26when Bischoff had the the makeup on No A Wedding was that I don't believe.
- 31:37Isn't it crazy? We've had so many weddings, you know in WW
- 31:41like maybe we could do a whole podcast episode of w W weddings. Um
- 31:49yeah, like a bracket what was the either the best or the worst one?
- 31:57So after this, after they played this promo, it led up to
- 32:02Matts with Tory and Dawn Marie. I forgot to mention it on commentary common
- 32:08tating the brand split. They had different ones for each brand. So that's
- 32:14how you would know if some people were on SmackDown. Somewhere on roll SmackDown
- 32:16had Michael Cole really young Michael Cole with a terrible goatee, and uh Taz,
- 32:23who's I think still active in aw doin stuff. Yeah, along with
- 32:31his son Hook. Uh Michael Cole still with the company, which is funny
- 32:37because now he's closer to retirement, you know, and here he's so fresh
- 32:44and then you know, the role has Jr. And the King. I
- 32:46mean, it's interesting. Thing I noticed about it was the fact that Jr.
- 32:52And King were up at the top of the ramp as opposed to being
- 32:54at ringside, whereas Michael Cole and Taz were down at ringside, right they
- 33:00they did that for a hot minute, like they kept rawl up there close
- 33:04to the stage, and then sometimes they would have wrestlers come out and interact
- 33:08with the commentating team a lot more. I don't know if you guys remember
- 33:13that during a lot of the rawl shows, you know, you catch the
- 33:16wrestler right at the his entrance, you know, if you if they wanted
- 33:20to incorporate themselves in the in something. But this match, it was four
- 33:30minutes and forty seconds. It was awful. I realized how terrible of wrestler
- 33:37torists is. Uh. And she's a Hall of Famer now, which is
- 33:43crazy, um, because they were talking about, you know how they had
- 33:49a bikini contest the week before and in a lingerie contest, and I was
- 33:55like, oh, yeah, that's right, that's yeah, there's no heat
- 33:58like contest. Yeah right. Uh. Don Marie, she's like the uh
- 34:04the modern day. She reminds me of Chelsea Green a little bit, uh
- 34:10all about looks, you know, just not a good wrestler. She did
- 34:15not age well by the way out these two women, you know, in
- 34:17twenty twenty three, Tory Wilson looks stunning still, don Marie, God,
- 34:23No, she does not look like that anymore, Gentleman. She looks like
- 34:30a typical forty year old woman. Yes she has, she had a little
- 34:34bit completely terrible. She just looks like she's just a typical forty something year
- 34:39old woman, like she's just age. Dude, isn't necessarily as well,
- 34:45I'm gonna say, as concerned, But she obviously she's out of the business
- 34:49now, so she's not under that same pressure of maintaining the same level of
- 34:54fitness or that same skinny figure that she had when she was in wrestling.
- 35:00Yeah. Yeah, I've seen, I've seen, I've seen worse. So
- 35:04she didn't look that bad. Uh. You know this this match was a
- 35:12very slow match for four minutes and forty seconds. I was I like wondering
- 35:15like what Tory Wilson's like actual finisher was, and it really wasn't anything special.
- 35:22I think it was like a swinging neck breaker or something, and that's
- 35:25how she ends up painting Dawn Marine. But you know what's it sucks is
- 35:30like this feud is like far from over. It's like it's way too long.
- 35:36There's no titles, involved. It's just you know, it's just drama
- 35:40because you know, soap opera crap filler. Uh for me to to uh
- 35:49get a somewhat higher rating because this attractive women, so you know, uh
- 35:53try what did you think about this, this match starting off this wonderful feud
- 35:59for actually you called terrible. You gave it a higher score than I did.
- 36:02And honestly, to me, the match was not as terrible as I
- 36:07thought it was going to be for two women who were obviously not wrestlers being
- 36:10a match. I mean, it still was not a good match by any
- 36:16stretch of the imagination, but not as bad as I thought it was when
- 36:21I saw, oh shit, I'm about to watch Adam Marie Tory Rolson match.
- 36:24But nevertheless, it did still have some of those obligatory spots that you
- 36:30would see in the typical women's match, like the obligatory hair toss which they
- 36:34had. They got one of those in I almost thought they were going to
- 36:37go through the whole match and have it not happened, but nope, it
- 36:38happened. And then they had to tussle on the ground with the referee and
- 36:44that was just cringe as fuck. But yeah, nevertheless, it was still
- 36:51just not a good match, but not as bad as I thought it was
- 36:53going to be when I saw them too about coming out. So yeah,
- 36:58I give it. I give it one and a half stars. Though.
- 37:00Oh uh well, I feel like every time are what's that? Are you
- 37:07just as harsh as we are? Uh? No, I think you guys
- 37:12are much nicer. Uh. I feel like when we do these uh you
- 37:16know, old ruthless aggression shows, we always end up mentioning how much better
- 37:22women's wrestling is now and how much more important a part of the show it
- 37:27is now than it was then. And you know, so on this this
- 37:30paper view, we have two women's matches. Um, one was okay and
- 37:35one is bad and this is a bad one. Um yeah, I mean
- 37:42this is just two kind of attractive women pretending to have a wrestling match.
- 37:46Uh. There was a kick in a clothesline spot that didn't look half bad.
- 37:51Uh, Otherwise the rest of it was pretty shitty. Uh. I
- 37:54feel like the trainees on Monster Factory, if you've been watching that, are
- 38:00better workers than either of these two. Um. Either crowd seems to care
- 38:05about it about as much as I do, which is to say not at
- 38:07all. Um, Yeah, this is just that's more of that soap opera
- 38:14bullshit. I give it zero stars. Uh Dave Meltzer. I had to
- 38:17look ut see what he had to say about this one. He gave it
- 38:21negative one and a half stars. Really. Yeah, I'm not gonna go
- 38:27negative on him, but I'm not gonna give him any any positive stars either.
- 38:32This was pretty awful. Tory Wilson got off a clean sup lex.
- 38:39Uh okay, So let's move on to the next match. Well, actually,
- 38:45the promo that comes after this, we have an interview with the coach.
- 38:50The coach interviewing uh Rob van Damn uh man. Now was that the
- 39:00writing was pretty good? Yeah, the delivery was fucking horrible exactly. So
- 39:07weird Roband just isn't an actor, man, He just he just can't.
- 39:10You know. It's funny because when we were watching it, I go to
- 39:14my girlfriend, It's like, hey, he's like he's kind of like the
- 39:16Matt Riddle of two thousand and two. You know, Yeah, he's just
- 39:22not I don't know. Roban dam wasn't always really good at promos, but
- 39:25you're right there, like the writing was all there that you like, the
- 39:29chair was springing like his version of the flare gimmick was good like paper,
- 39:35but the delivery was just like so fucking wooden and awkward and like the strut,
- 39:42which was what the fuck are you doing? All he had to do
- 39:45was just say the lines and that dumbass strutton and wooing. Would it would
- 39:50have been a good promo? Yeah, I mean he took it. He
- 39:52took a seven and turned it into a three or maybe or two or like
- 39:59one stripe, maybe do one strip, but not after every single part of
- 40:02it. No, Yeah, his performance ruined what would be very good written
- 40:07promo. H So, uh you know, after that, that awkward promo,
- 40:16we catched him. We catch coach running down the hallway and catching a
- 40:22young thinner Paul Hayman, longer hair, uh broccolessner, very young, and
- 40:30a woman named Tracy. I had to be like for a hot second,
- 40:35I was like, wait, who the hell are you? You know?
- 40:38Uh so it was a little weird. I had to catch her. I
- 40:40still don't know. Yeah, but I don't think she hangs around very long.
- 40:47I mean I don't think she did either. I think she was here
- 40:51just for this part of that feud, and that was probably it was I
- 40:53have no memory of her. Yeah, I was like, who the hell
- 40:58is this? Um, you know, we uh forget so yeah, whatever
- 41:07storyline that that is, that's what that pro was detained referring to. UM.
- 41:14So I was a little confused what was going on. I had to
- 41:16quickly do some googling because I was like, what the what the hell is
- 41:20this about this? In this feud, I was kind of like lost a
- 41:22little but uh, anyway, after this match, we get Rob Van Damn
- 41:28against Ric Flair. Um, it was really nice to see like young ger
- 41:35Rick Flair. He's in his fifties though at this point he's fifty three,
- 41:42is currently one year older than Rick Flair was then. Yeah. Yeah,
- 41:47gone, if you've seen him lately, it's six years older than Ric Flair
- 41:52was then. Right. It's crazy to think, like, you know,
- 41:57how much longer Rick Flair goes after this? Yeah, he really pushes his
- 42:02you know limits, uh with his age in the ring. Um. But
- 42:08yeah, you know this is like, uh, I guess this is like
- 42:15the very beginning the seeds are being planted for the formula of evolution. Uh,
- 42:21this is when you know, Rick Flair and Triple H start to become
- 42:25you know, kind of hand in hand with each other, and then you
- 42:29know, down the road a few months later they recruit you know, Batista
- 42:32and Rady organ and form Evolution. So this is the early beginnings of evolution,
- 42:37you know. Uh, Rick Flair helping Triple H and Unforgiven, Uh,
- 42:44you know, with beating Rob Van Dam. So that's how we get
- 42:46this. This match is feud here seven minutes of fifty nine seconds. Uh.
- 42:52What really I think it was funny is like they were duking it out
- 42:58outside the ring for for a bit before they even got in the ring and
- 43:00got the bellyman ring. Uh. There's a spot where they threw he throws
- 43:05Flare, uh, you know, up over the barricade. Flare does a
- 43:09spot in the ring where he kind of does like a Sean Michael's thing where
- 43:13he flips upside down, he goes up over the ropes. Uh. You
- 43:15know, it's just kind of it's funny seeing Rick Flair do these kind of
- 43:20moves because you know, when I started watching this again, he wasn't doing
- 43:24this kind of stuff, and I was watching him on his way out,
- 43:28you know, back when Sean Michael's beat him at WrestleMania. So you know,
- 43:30you just sell like an older, stiffer, more fragile Rick Flair.
- 43:36Then his chops though in this match were aggressive, very aggressive, very loud.
- 43:43So I thought that was pretty pretty cool. I did kind of enjoy
- 43:46this match because Rick Flair can always put on like you know, during the
- 43:51match, he can entertain you, keep you in, uh you know,
- 43:53the way he's always always trying to cheat. You know, he gets a
- 43:58low blow on Rob van Dan with the you know when the rest not looking,
- 44:01I mean, classic Flair, right, dirty's playing in the game,
- 44:07baby, They're just playing the game. But in this one, Rob van
- 44:10Dam comes as the winner. So three and a half for me for this
- 44:16match. Uh you know, Oh, nothing I want to notice is Rob
- 44:22van Dam with his outfits. They're very neat because he always he never wears
- 44:28the same one more than you know, a couple of times. And then
- 44:31he's always out almost every other week with like a new airbrush single. It
- 44:37so dre um. Yeah, I think I gave this match three out of
- 44:45five stars. Um. For two wrestlers who have two very different styles,
- 44:50they managed to have a good match with each other, and I think that's
- 44:52just a testament of just how good of a worker. Rob Van Dam and
- 44:57Flair, even at this age, still are like I said, they um
- 45:02Rob Bandez high flying style and then Flair using his natural rank psychology to obviously
- 45:08take out Rob's legs which naturally sets him up for the figure four and Rob
- 45:14getting his uh full repertoive offense in. I said, it all came together
- 45:20and made for a good match. So yeah, I gave it three out
- 45:22of five. Cool Doyle. What'd you think of this classic MATCHA? Did
- 45:32you guys? Maybe this was just me? Uh, maybe I was just
- 45:36imagining things. Did the did the version of Flair's um what's that song called
- 45:43also sprok Zarathusta or something like that? Was it a weird version of that?
- 45:47Or am I crazy? No? It was something different. It was
- 45:51not his theme. It was just something different. Okay, yeah, I
- 45:54had that. I noticed it immediately when he came out to we. Okay,
- 46:00yeah, I mean you think Flare, Flair and RVD uh, you
- 46:04know, regardless of age or whatever, should be able to do something really
- 46:07special. H But you know, I think we just kind of get an
- 46:09average match here. Uh. Flair spent a good portion of the match work
- 46:15in the knee and then fucking RVD completely no sells it when he makes his
- 46:20comeback. You know. That kind of drove me crazy. You know.
- 46:22It's maybe it's a little shit like that that maybe keeps RVD out of the
- 46:29next stratosphere of mega stardom. You know, I really love RVD. Uh
- 46:34maybe that in that weird promo wed uh, but it's you know, it's
- 46:38a little shit like that. Um. You know, he could still make
- 46:43the comeback but continue to sell the knee, you know. Um, but
- 46:46the crowd is super super duper into RVD, which was kind of really the
- 46:52whole point of the match. I think. Uh, I only give this
- 46:54two and a half stars. It was very, very average, I thought,
- 46:59Um, just it just served to give rbdum a win over a name,
- 47:02and that was related all it did and all I was supposed to do.
- 47:07Mhm, all right, uh, what do we get a pro after
- 47:12this? Let me see here. Oh yeah, we did that Big Show.
- 47:15So yeah. At this time, it looks like Big Show is backstage
- 47:20talking to Stephanie Man and Eric Bischoff runs up on him. You know,
- 47:24and at this point in time, Big Show is quote unquote property of Monday
- 47:30Night Raw. He should be frattnizing with the enemy. This is fact when
- 47:32brands were more aggressive to each other, you know, roll versus SmackDown,
- 47:39and now it's not so much. So I do know that Down the Road
- 47:45Big Show does somehow get to SmackDown because he's the one who ends up beating
- 47:51brock List and for that undispeeded title. Down the Road a survivor series.
- 47:57I think, let's say it's right after this. Yeah yeah. It was
- 48:00literally the next pay per view after this, yeah yeah, which is crazy.
- 48:06Like I remember, I actually remember that one. That one was a
- 48:07pretty good pay per view, so hopefully we'll get to that one too.
- 48:15So I did enjoy the fact that when Big Show picked up Eric Bischoff and
- 48:22like like like literally picked him up and threw him into those I don't know
- 48:27what they were, metal frames that were just hanging out there, but just
- 48:29the way he picked him up like he was nothing. Uh. He and
- 48:32Bischoff played it off pretty well too. I I did like Bischoff as a
- 48:37general manager because he was such a dick and I always thought that was funny.
- 48:44And Stephanie still uh still more of like a heel. I still,
- 48:49I think at this point in time, she does turn into like a face
- 48:52general manager at some point. Uh yeah, a little little promo and yet
- 49:00enjoyed it. Uh. After this, we get a Cruiserweight match. Do
- 49:06you guys remember the Cruiserweight title. Yeah? I like the cruiserweight matches.
- 49:13Uh, not the title instead and keep the Cruiserweight title. Yeah yeah,
- 49:20nah because at the time I believe that Rawl had the women's title and then
- 49:29didn't SmackDown have the Cruiserweight title as a trade off. Something's that effect.
- 49:36Yeah, something like that. But in this match, we get Jamie Noble
- 49:40with Nidia uh defeating to Jerry. Uh. You know, if you know
- 49:47anything about Jamie Noble, he still works with the company now. He's just
- 49:52you know, a backstage guy. So sometimes when they have no crowds or
- 49:59two wrestlers they need to break up. I always catch like Jamie Noble in
- 50:02there sometimes. Uh he's a little small guy. I mean it makes sense
- 50:06because you know he is a cruiser right. Uh to Jerry, Japanese wrestler.
- 50:13I always liked to Jerry. Uh. You know, he didn't do
- 50:16it in this match, but he used to do the green miss. It
- 50:21made me think of Oscar because every Japanese school America has to do the miss
- 50:25I know, right, Uh, base was always good. I like that.
- 50:30I liked his buzz salt kick that he I guess I was just finisher
- 50:34and we're kicking in the back of the head. But his kicks always seemed
- 50:38like they were pretty stiff. Um, I don't know. Just a cruiserweight
- 50:44match eight minutes and fifteen seconds, so as we got a decent amount of
- 50:47time. At the end of the match, video is pretty much kissed and
- 50:52everybody kissed. The ref kissed Jerry, then kissed Jamie Noble, So you
- 50:57can get kicked in the back of the head. But uh uh like a,
- 51:02I don't know, I'll get a two and a half starts for the
- 51:06comedy aspect tre um. Yeah, I gave this match three stars as well.
- 51:13Um for the match itself, I thought it was a pretty decent match
- 51:17between cruise Waste. You know, with with these guys, especially back in
- 51:21this time, you got to see offense from knowing that you weren't that you
- 51:24weren't gonna get from the uh top or top tier stars on in the WW
- 51:30you know, much more, much greater acrobatics and such that. Like I
- 51:36said, the big guys just weren't delivering. That being said, WWS Cruise
- 51:40aweight Division was still nowhere near on the level of the old w c W
- 51:45cruiseweight division. So in that regard, it's still lacking anybody. You're a
- 51:51big guy, right, so what you're a You're a w CW guy right
- 51:55For the most part. Yeah, Like when I like my inter production and
- 52:00getting into wrestling, Yeah, it was through the old NWA and w CWC
- 52:02Yeah, I pretty much watched a lot of that through the late eighties nineties,
- 52:08probably up till maybe about somewhere between somewhere in the attitude there is probably
- 52:15when I switched over to full time WW probably like by the time nWo had
- 52:20like thirty members in it and shit. But yeah, so I remember the
- 52:24old WCW Cruise Away Division and how off the chain that was, and quite
- 52:30frankly, ww's version just never quite measured up. That being said, these
- 52:34guys still put on a good match and it was nice to see to Jerry
- 52:38Wrestle because he was one of the guys that I did like a lot back
- 52:42then, especially the way he would just kick the living shit out of people.
- 52:45And then especially back then because like his kicks felt impactful. He kicked
- 52:52you, it felt like it hurt. It sounded off, not like not
- 52:54like today where everybody just gets the shit kicked out of him fifteen times in
- 52:58a match. And nowaday's basically mean nothing because everybody does it. You know.
- 53:04Back then when to Jerry did it it, like I said, it
- 53:06was unique to him, so it meant a whole lot more. So.
- 53:09Yeah, oh and all this was a good match. I gotta give it
- 53:13a three out of star, three out of five stars. Cool. Yeah,
- 53:17I mean you used to get a super kick, you're you're off television
- 53:21for a month, you know. Now now they take cana of them before
- 53:24the bell ring anyway, Um, yeah, I mean not unlike a match
- 53:30prior to this one. You know, you see the names Jamie Noble and
- 53:32too Jerry, and I kind of expected, oh, it's gonna be a
- 53:36banger, you know. Um, and when you don't get one, you
- 53:39know, maybe it's a little more disappointing than a match of equal quality,
- 53:44but that you weren't expecting anything from in the first place. Uh, you
- 53:49know, but what a bipolar crowd. The stuff they love they love,
- 53:52and the stuff they don't you know you can hear a pin drop and this
- 53:57was kind of the ladder. Um. Did Jerry did get off some of
- 54:00his you know, unique offense. Uh. He did a nice springboard moon
- 54:05salt to the outside, which is cool. Uh. He had a nice
- 54:08kind of like I don't know even how to describe it. He like rolls
- 54:14Noble does, like a sunset flip and kind of did. Jerry rolled through
- 54:16to the outside and then he set up a kick. He kicked him when
- 54:20his head was sticking out. Um. And I think he was the first
- 54:23guy I remember. I'm sure he's not the first guy to do it,
- 54:25but he's the first guy I remember seeing doing the handstand into the ropes um.
- 54:34Yeah, yeah, um And I love the tarantula. That move always
- 54:37I thought was great. But you know, when the post match and annigans
- 54:43are getting more heat than the actual match, that's rarely a good sign.
- 54:47Uh. So yeah, I only I give this two and two and three
- 54:51quarters. Yeah, I don't think. I don't think crowds back then had
- 54:54the same level of appreciation for the smaller performers like they do now. Yeah.
- 55:00I mean these are you know, did Jerry, especially just ahead of
- 55:06his time, I think, you know, yeah, if he was around
- 55:08now h I think he'd be doing great stuff. Yeah, I think a
- 55:13match like this nowadays would have gotten a great reaction from audist aside from the
- 55:16post match and then against but just the match itself. I think we're getting
- 55:20a good reaction from today's audience. But back then they were just still all
- 55:23about the big names. Then smaller wrestlers weren't quite as appreciated because remember this
- 55:29is this is before prior to uh Eddie and Ben wah Win in the titles.
- 55:34So yeah, I mean remember going back to wc W, remember that
- 55:38first hour of Night Travel back in the day, it was is fucking ridiculous.
- 55:44Well shit, and just like if you look back at it, like
- 55:47that was matches were fucking killer that yeah, yeah, that was always as
- 55:53Achilles heel right, wasn't there? The mid card was fucking amazing, and
- 55:58then the main event was garbage because you had two hundred year old dudes wrestling
- 56:04stupid gimmick match, you know. Yeah, the best wrestling was always on
- 56:07between like the cruiserweights in the mid cars. Like some of the best matches
- 56:10would be like that first hour nightro before Ross started at nine, the eight
- 56:15o'clock hour just fu yeah, you know, Early Ray and fucking Eddie and
- 56:21Psychosis and Hoovie. You know, it's just like Malenka, you get those
- 56:25banger cruiserweight matches or some banger match for like the world television title. Yeah,
- 56:31stuff like that would just be like those would be your workers and the
- 56:35guys who could actually go in the ring. And then the rest of the
- 56:38show will be bogged down with nWo and a Goldberg squash. All right,
- 56:46So after this we get another promo. This one involves the Crispin Waugh and
- 56:55Eddie Guerrero U Curt Angle and child about Guerrero. Ben Watch tries to tell
- 57:04him that Chavo is getting jumped by Kurt Angle. Uh. He leads him
- 57:07down the hallway to uh it seems to be like a bathroom or darker and
- 57:10whatever. And you hear Chavo screaming on the other side the whole time,
- 57:14and Eddie thinks that, you know, he's Ben while I was trying to
- 57:16check him, and it's a it's a little girl in there. And then
- 57:22Chido comes out, you know, he got jumped. I guess he comes
- 57:25out the door eventually, and he got jumped by Kurt Angle, so uh
- 57:31Eddie SCRAMs after this. Uh Eddie has a nice shiner during this. I
- 57:37don't know if you guys saw that. Yeah, he's also not on the
- 57:40card, but he's in his gear. Yeah, Like, did you like
- 57:45the people that work at I don't know, Taco Bell, if they're gonna
- 57:47go to Taco Bell on their day off to they put their uniform on to
- 57:52go get Like I always I always was fascinated when when they have a backstage
- 57:58segment of a guy who isn't wrestling on the show, but it's still in
- 58:00his gear anyway, right, Yeah, not just in his gear, but
- 58:05in his gear and greased up and everything. Yeah, or when they're in
- 58:07their gear at something else, like they're in a base they're gonna like,
- 58:10you know, throw out the first pitchers of them and they're in their fucking
- 58:13wrestling gear. It always tickled me. I don't know why. It's like,
- 58:20what the hell is he doing there? Why is he shirtless? Well,
- 58:22like, why why is he just hanging out in his boots? And
- 58:25child Chalda was in full time too. Yeah yeah the card either, but
- 58:30he was in his gear. Um. So Eddie tries to attack her an
- 58:34angle and then he gets broken up. Did you guys notice one of the
- 58:37guards to break it up Fit Finlay? Huh yeah, Finley was one of
- 58:47the guys to break up the what's that I said, the Belfast Brawler.
- 58:53Yeah, right, So I thought that was pretty cool to see that,
- 58:58and I'm not always looking for that now, Like you know, right there
- 59:04and they're a um like a triple h WrestleMania entrance where like Alexa Bliss and
- 59:08Charlotte Flair and somebody else are like the yeah, Sasha, they're they're like
- 59:15the girls and the entrance or whatever. Yep. And there's a couple where
- 59:20you have uh you know, Keith Lee, Shamous Way Bard, even Cesarro
- 59:27um all security guards. I think the I think the Hardies are guys that
- 59:31opened the door for King of the Ring one year. Yeah, like they
- 59:36had like, um doors that swung open everywhere. This is weird, you
- 59:43know when you really look at these like who who's in the background, you
- 59:46know, I was, I wasn't Punker one of the fake John Cena's yep
- 59:52or something like that. Yeah, see everywhere. Uh So we get a
- 59:59promo them for the World Heavyweight title and interconminal title storyline. This one involves
- 1:00:07Kane and Triple che. Triple H is the heel, Kane is the facing
- 1:00:12this one, so this is starting the Katie Vick storyline. I tried to
- 1:00:20like, I don't know, I guess forget this storyline because it was so
- 1:00:22awful. So Kane apparently has a dui and crashes his car and kills Katie
- 1:00:30Vick. Right, is that I don't understand the whole storyline. I don't
- 1:00:34remember the whole storyline, but is that I think that's the gist of it
- 1:00:37from what I from when I get from this, and it happened like ten
- 1:00:39years ago. I think I think Triple H implied that he was drunk,
- 1:00:45but he wasn't actulutely drunk. It was just an accident, I think,
- 1:00:49is what we're supposed to believe. Oh man, uh and then uh,
- 1:00:55you know. Eric Bischoff says that there's too many titles is un raw.
- 1:01:00They need to make one single title, so they're going to unify the world
- 1:01:05title and the intercronical title, so it's winner tastes all m It was funny
- 1:01:10because I think I don't know when, but it's not too much longer after
- 1:01:15this, when Triple H and Kane have another match and it's for the mask
- 1:01:21and he tastes his mask off, so it's not too much farther, right,
- 1:01:24probably not. This is one of the have we one of the worst
- 1:01:30storylines that w w's ever done, And I remember it does have so many
- 1:01:34cringe moments, and I think it did ultimately end with Kane unmasking, right,
- 1:01:39Yeah, I think I think Lawlor at some point says something about,
- 1:01:45oh, he's just figured under there. They were still going with that,
- 1:01:49and Kane also looks like he's given himself some type of fo man shoe kind
- 1:01:54of situation going on, and it made him look really weird, because usually
- 1:01:59like he's got a stubble or a full beard or something like that, but
- 1:02:02just like mustache kind of thing he had gone. It made him look really
- 1:02:07weird. Yeah. I actually kind of enjoyed this match. It took a
- 1:02:15while, though, I mean, you got two guys who were pretty grounded
- 1:02:20wrestlers. You know, you'll see maybe can go off the top rope for
- 1:02:24like a flying clothesline or something, but you know, you don't really see
- 1:02:29Triple H on the top rope very often. This had all sorts of shenanigans
- 1:02:34in it. Rick Flair coming in interfering, then the hurricane came in.
- 1:02:37You know, the referee was taken out, and then we got a second
- 1:02:42referee, and then the sledgehammer was involved. So a lot of things were
- 1:02:45involved in this match. So you know, Trips could get that world title
- 1:02:51in the intercontinal title unification. They got sixteen minutes thirteen seconds so far on
- 1:02:59the car the longest match. Um. I did enjoy Kane's entrance because when
- 1:03:06the flames came up, they it looks like they catch something on the stage
- 1:03:09on fire, which is kind of cool. Uh, this is kind of
- 1:03:16giant tragedy. Yeah. Uh, we kind of don't see this in a
- 1:03:23contal title for a while. After this it you know, it takes a
- 1:03:28while, and then to bring it back six months, yeah, because having
- 1:03:36like another tournament for it, and after brings it back, yeah, after
- 1:03:40you realized how dumb of a decision it was to get rid of it in
- 1:03:43the first place. Right, Yeah, they keep the cruise Away title,
- 1:03:45but exactly, Yeah, it's just one of their dumb decisions to get rid
- 1:03:50of that because eventually when they do bring it back, they bring back the
- 1:03:53US title on SmackDown exactly right, and um, you know that's it.
- 1:04:00I enjoyed when they brought those two titles back. Um, you know,
- 1:04:04I you know, I kind of like I said, I enjoyed this match.
- 1:04:06I'm gonna give it a three and a half. I liked all the
- 1:04:11shenatigans towards the end, typical triple age match, you know, like just
- 1:04:15this is when when his heel, he just never wants to win clean.
- 1:04:19It's always fucking dirty, dirty as shit. Uh and Rick Flair is great
- 1:04:26for that. So, Dre, what do you think of this? This
- 1:04:30match, this, the promos that we got before it, and uh,
- 1:04:35you know, this whole storyline in general, and the promo before it.
- 1:04:41I'm well, the backstage promo between Ben Wall and Angel and them. It
- 1:04:45was just nice to see Eddie Guerrel again. So that was the most I
- 1:04:48got out of that segment. It was just nice seeing Eddie Guerrel. Um.
- 1:04:54As far as this feud, I already said it. This is one
- 1:04:56of the worst FEUs w w's ever done, period, from the whole drunk
- 1:05:01driving whatever Katie vic Angele and let's not forget that. Eventually down the line.
- 1:05:06This led to that god awful Triple H and the Cane mask and the
- 1:05:14casket segment that's the next night. Yeah, so again one of the worst
- 1:05:19feuds, one of the worst storylines ww's ever done. And I'm pretty sure
- 1:05:25WW would like it if we all forget that this ever happened, especially Triple
- 1:05:29H. I'm pretty sure we'd like for us all to forget that this ever
- 1:05:31happened. But as far as the match itself, I get the match two
- 1:05:35and three quarter stars. Honestly, it was just pretty much standard fair run
- 1:05:41of the mill match. It's not that Triple H and Cane or bad workers,
- 1:05:45It's just that they pretty much did exactly what I expected him to do.
- 1:05:50A Triple H. No, he does a good job of selling his
- 1:05:54ass off for his opponent to make them look good. He pretty much expected
- 1:05:58Flair to interfere. Sure enough, here he came running in, snatching the
- 1:06:00referees out, punching their lights out, and this, that, and the
- 1:06:02third. Was kind of surprised to see, uh, Hurricane Helms come out,
- 1:06:08but then I remember it. Oh yeah, they were a tag team
- 1:06:10for a while, him and Kane, so then they came out and then
- 1:06:13of course, Triple H looks like he's about to lose, looks like the
- 1:06:15good guys right on the customer victory, and nope, Triple H steals the
- 1:06:19steals victory from the jaws of defeat, but through cheating. I mean,
- 1:06:25pretty standard, fair and pretty much how damn near every single triple match Triple
- 1:06:30H match went during this time when the title was involved, So just wasn't
- 1:06:35anything special to me, honestly. And also Kane did his Piro before the
- 1:06:39match, which is an obvious precursor that he's gonna lose. So so yeah,
- 1:06:45I just give it two and three quarter stars. Okay, Doyle?
- 1:06:50Is that like how the bad Guy never used as an iPhone? And then
- 1:06:56if Kane's Piro goes off, you know he's gonna lose. If somebody's using
- 1:07:00Android, you know they're really the bad guy. Um uh funny the Katie
- 1:07:04vic um the necrophilia angle, right, Um yeah. When they were doing
- 1:07:11the video for this, I didn't realize that that hadn't happened yet. So
- 1:07:16the lady of the house happened into the room and she was like, what
- 1:07:18the hell is stupid shit are you watching? Now? Like, oh,
- 1:07:21you gotta see this. This is the dumbest fucking shit they ever did.
- 1:07:25They actually do a necrophilia angle and she goes, oh, really sounds.
- 1:07:29So she sits there watching. She goes, they're not talking about this,
- 1:07:30so even like cret she thinks, I'm just like making up this thing.
- 1:07:34I didn't even realize that it hadn't happened yet, so she thinks I'm fucking
- 1:07:38insane, which is no big surprise. Um, I'm another another theme question
- 1:07:44for you. Now the Triple H is retired from the Ring, is the
- 1:07:47game retired? Also? Is it seems like he only comes out to King
- 1:07:51of Kings now It seems to be the case, which is kind of sad
- 1:07:56to me because I've always loved the game. This is an interesting I always
- 1:07:59prefer that War the King of Kings, But once he got to the point
- 1:08:02where he had both of them at the same time, for the most part,
- 1:08:05it seemed like he would use King of Kings whenever he came out to
- 1:08:08cut a promo or something like that, and would save the game just for
- 1:08:12matches. So now that he's retired, it seems like he's still doing that
- 1:08:17now, where the game is his theme just for matches? And since he's
- 1:08:21not wrestling anymore, he's not going to use it anymore. Like, I
- 1:08:25don't even think he has the King of Kings yet at this point. At
- 1:08:28this point, no, he didn't. He didn't have King of Kings.
- 1:08:30It just it just got me thinking. I was like, yeah, I
- 1:08:31don't think he's I've heard him come out to that, to this song for
- 1:08:35a while. No, not since WrestleMania when he u when he put his
- 1:08:41boots in the ring. I don't think he's used it since then. Maybe
- 1:08:43maybe once or twice since then, but as of late now, it's been
- 1:08:46exclusively King of Kings anyway. Um, yeah, I mean these guys wrestled
- 1:08:53a ton, right, Triple Agent King. Uh, they never really had
- 1:08:59a bang, but they never had a terrible match either, right, And
- 1:09:03that's kind of what we get here. Um, it was a little overbooked
- 1:09:06from my uh so much interference, Um, but that you know, Yeah,
- 1:09:15as we've said, that's kind of typical of a triple HS match,
- 1:09:18especially in this time period. Um j R. H mentioned something about Kane
- 1:09:26will be the first mask wrestler to hold the heavyweight the World Heavyweight Championship,
- 1:09:30Like, no shit, this title just got invented like two months ago,
- 1:09:34going to be like what the like? I guess maybe that's um one of
- 1:09:41those situations where like a statistic can uh make you know, you can twist
- 1:09:46statistic to me and anything you want it to mean. Although, as I
- 1:09:51complain about JR, I loved him getting annoyed as fuck at King for constantly
- 1:09:57talking about Katie Vick. I thought that was hilarious. I was so pissed
- 1:10:01off. Well yeah, sure, I mean he wasn't wrong, but it
- 1:10:05was so funny how pissed off he was getting. Um Hebner really got his
- 1:10:11ass kicked. This this this, uh this match. How there are a
- 1:10:14couple of rough bumps, right, Um I liked uh. I liked Kane
- 1:10:19kind of gently putting the sledgehammer down after getting a low blow. There's a
- 1:10:25really low blow heavy pay per view. Um Flair actually made it off the
- 1:10:30top rope for once. Uh. It still didn't go particularly well for him,
- 1:10:34but usually when he gets up there he has a hard landing. Um.
- 1:10:42Yeah, they called this Winter Take All and they make this big ass
- 1:10:44deal about the r the ic title they have that that uh pretty nice video
- 1:10:48package about the history of the belt. Um but then when triple A twins,
- 1:10:55he grabs the world title, doesn't do anything with the IC title,
- 1:11:00you know, like he doesn't hold up both belts. Uh, you know
- 1:11:02there's no ultimate Warrior, Uh, Becky Lynch Roman reigns Daniel Bryant holding up
- 1:11:09belts. You know, he just he might as well throw it in the
- 1:11:13trash because you know, we don't even see it or hear about it again
- 1:11:16until Stone Cole brings it back in whatever we said it was six seven months.
- 1:11:24It's just it didn't make any sense to take winner take all. No,
- 1:11:28no, no, And then the winner didn't take all. The winner
- 1:11:30just took what he had in the first place. All right, But yeah,
- 1:11:34I give it a three star match. It was. It was good,
- 1:11:38but it wasn't great, and it certainly wasn't offensive, uh like the
- 1:11:42don Marie Tory Wilson match was. Uh so yeah, I mean average,
- 1:11:47maybe slightly above average. And after this we get a very boring and unnecessary
- 1:11:56promo between Stephanie McMahon and this Tracy lady. None of us. No,
- 1:12:04um, I don't know it was. You know what, if I can
- 1:12:10recommend anything to anybody, just go to the bathroom. You need to get
- 1:12:13up, grab something to eat between matches. This is probably the good time
- 1:12:16to do it, you know. Uh, kind of pointless. I don't
- 1:12:21know if anybody has anything they want to insert in that. I really do
- 1:12:28later okay, okay, oh later, got you? Okay. So after
- 1:12:32this we lead up to the SmackDown Tag Team title match. This is for
- 1:12:42them for the first time. Uh what I had there was a tournament for
- 1:12:48him, a tournament for him, and I had. I had the list
- 1:12:51here. It's a very awkward list. Oh is it ever? Yeah?
- 1:12:57Yeah, the I can tell you the other I didn't. I wrote down
- 1:13:00the other teams, but I didn't write the brackets right. One that stuck
- 1:13:06out, I guess is to Jerry and Brocco lesner As. I was like,
- 1:13:13the fuck. I like, hey, Ida and Billy Kidman is another
- 1:13:20team? Oh yeah, that was another one. Yeah. I didn't really
- 1:13:25look at the names. I just want to happen to notice. Was that
- 1:13:28Billy and Chuck. We're still a tag team at this point, right,
- 1:13:30Uh? Scureros Mark Losquireros beat Mark, Henry and Rakishi and then Lo Squireros
- 1:13:38lost to Ben Juan Kurt Angle um Angle. Yeah, Ben Juan Kurt Angle
- 1:13:44beat Billy Hidman and John Cena referend Divon and Ron Simmons. Yeah, I
- 1:13:48got beat by Chuck Billion Chuck. They're like pretty deadly the modern day,
- 1:13:55pretty deadly, right, uh yes, oh yeah, sort of Edge and
- 1:14:01Ray Mystereo two guys who are still on the roster today, which I find
- 1:14:06pretty cool and bagging fairly recently, like a year ago. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:14:13and they they defeated Brock listener to Jerry. My guess is Brock just
- 1:14:18bailed on that match altogether and to Jerry just took the Yeah. Uh and
- 1:14:26this is this was pre Rapper scene too. He's still in like the prototype
- 1:14:30gear. This is very early ruthless. This is like scene is going to
- 1:14:34get released soon because he's not doing anything, I mean, teaming up with
- 1:14:40Billy Kibbon. Yeah, um, Devon Ron Simmons. That was a weird
- 1:14:45tag team to put together. Yeah, put the two black guys together.
- 1:14:50Yeah, sounded like yeah, and then they have them lose to Edge of
- 1:14:56Raymistereo. So you know, I don't know because well, and see the
- 1:15:00thing about this is I'm pretty sure this is pre jbl as well, so
- 1:15:05almost yeah, so almost makes me wonder like, was JBL injured at this
- 1:15:11time and that is that why Devon was paired with them? Or Yeah,
- 1:15:15what was the circumstances behind this, because I'm pretty sure the APA had not
- 1:15:18broken up yet. Yeah, I think I'm almost certain that they had because
- 1:15:24I'm pretty sure that this is the same year as Ustle Madia eighteen. I'm
- 1:15:27pretty sure they competed for the tag titles at Rustle Media at eighteen, so
- 1:15:30they shouldn't have broken up yet. I wonder if JBL might have just been
- 1:15:33injured at the time. Yeah, uh, yeah, the storyline occurred in
- 1:15:43ben wise, there were just two guys who just couldn't work together. I
- 1:15:46guess they were both heels at the time. They just couldn't get along.
- 1:15:50They were always turning on each other. So you get the two heels working
- 1:15:56together for this match, and it sounds right when that's done, right.
- 1:16:00I love the tag team that can't get along it right. You can suck
- 1:16:05it up pretty easily. But when it's done well, uh, I really
- 1:16:11I love it. I think I think it always works great, like when
- 1:16:14you have the right people. But what a weird stipulation, right if they
- 1:16:17if they get physical with the other. They're both suspended for one year without
- 1:16:21pay. Like that's just so weird, Like that's like never a threat.
- 1:16:28Yeah, I Like it's just it's just sounded weird. One year it's out
- 1:16:34pay, like Joe stipulation. Uh, they sometimes do so they sometimes suspend
- 1:16:42indefinitely or whatever. But like it's just the whole thing just it's just awkward.
- 1:16:46I thought, um, young, very young edge here. This is
- 1:16:53before he started racking up world titles, like you know, I free one.
- 1:17:00He gets this first money in the bank. Maybe it's like two thousand
- 1:17:01and six, maybe I think it is, or two thousand and five.
- 1:17:05He gets in and cashed in January two thousand and six. Maybe. Well.
- 1:17:09They list off his accolades at one point, like he's an eight time
- 1:17:13tag champion. Oh yeah, yeah, definitely a teams. I don't think.
- 1:17:17I don't think he had he hadn't won the Intercontinental title. I don't
- 1:17:20think yet. I don't think he had any any singles at all. Nah.
- 1:17:25And I think now that I think about it, this, yeah,
- 1:17:29with this being freshway after the brand split, I just realized that they kind
- 1:17:32of split up all the noteworthy tag teams that existed beforehand, because yeah,
- 1:17:36edges On Edges on SmackDown while the Christian's overaw Devon is on SmackDown. I'm
- 1:17:42thinking Bubba Ray was on Raw, Yeah, definitely, Yeah, and JB
- 1:17:47might have been on Raw. Maybe that's why he wasn't part of this now
- 1:17:49I think about it. Yeah, that was another thing that was just kind
- 1:17:54of weird about this brand split that they did. Yeah, they split up
- 1:17:57an Undertaker and Kane you know, uh king all Takers on SmackDown. Um,
- 1:18:03you know, all in all, like this, there's a four former
- 1:18:09world champions or future world champions at least, you know, Hard Angle has
- 1:18:13a few champions. World Championship runs under a spell already. Ben Wah future
- 1:18:18champion in two thousand and four four yeah, yeah, and the same Ray
- 1:18:26Mysterio I think he's like two thousand and five or two thousand and six.
- 1:18:30This is this is four of the SmackDown six. Yeah, yeah, as
- 1:18:35being the other two. Yeah, this that group of six, it's like
- 1:18:40kind of barely legendary, you know, kind of made SmackDown into a thing,
- 1:18:45you know, yeah, a thing because it's very much a B show.
- 1:18:50Yeah, because we were this was very early on and they put like
- 1:18:54the stars on Raw, and Raw was supposed to be out. It's supposed
- 1:18:57to be all about the big names and the top star. Smackdow was just
- 1:19:00kicking their ass every week with all the Yeah, Smackdow was just kicking their
- 1:19:03ass every week, just putting on better matches and ship and if for a
- 1:19:08while, Smackdow became the better show of the two because it turns out all
- 1:19:12the good workers and all the great matches were happening on Smackdow. Yeah.
- 1:19:16Uh, this match is twenty two minutes, three seconds. We'll deserved too.
- 1:19:20Um. There's a lot of good spots in this I don't know if
- 1:19:25you guys noticed. There was a spot where Edge was on his back right.
- 1:19:29This is before Ben Watt goes to the top row. Ben Wah shoots
- 1:19:33a fucking snot rocket on Edge, Like I was, like, dude,
- 1:19:39he he was, he was. He was kind of famous for the snot
- 1:19:42rocks. He was always, Oh my god, like, du come on,
- 1:19:45even as a hill that's fucked up. Uh, you know, the
- 1:19:50belly to belly and the supplexes in this match, we're pretty cool, Ben
- 1:19:55Wah with the hard chops. You know. Another another guy besides Flair that
- 1:20:00has a couple of hard chops. This evening there was a spot with Rave,
- 1:20:05Mysterio and Ben Wall off the top and hits Angle with a six one
- 1:20:12nine and then into a cross face and then ankle. It was an ankle
- 1:20:17locked to a roll up. It was a pretty entertaining match. I really
- 1:20:21enjoyed this match. I mean, everybody got their spots at the end.
- 1:20:27You know, Angle made Edge tap, There's a lot of good false finishes.
- 1:20:31I really thought Edge and Mysterio had this. I couldn't remember who the
- 1:20:36outcome of this match was, so I kind of didn't want to spoil it.
- 1:20:41And it was who I thought it was Angle and Ben wah because I
- 1:20:45was like, oh yeah, they kind of made history there being the first
- 1:20:46tag team champions for SmackDown. You know, Rave Mysterio another guy with outfits
- 1:20:53that are great day changes. It's almost you know, every week every pay
- 1:20:58per re view. Uh. Also Edge with the Rob Rob Zombie entrance team.
- 1:21:04You know it's rated art music best best best music he ever had.
- 1:21:10Yeah, yeah, I agree. I loved this interesting when he had it.
- 1:21:14Yeah, so yeah, he had all the smoke and everything. I
- 1:21:17yeah, I loved it. Um, you know this this would be a
- 1:21:21four star match for me, you know with besides the gimmick match that we
- 1:21:26get later bella bell this is probably my favorite match. I was entertained the
- 1:21:30whole time. Uh Dre, what did you think of this match? Uh?
- 1:21:35Yeah, I also gave it four out of five. This was probably
- 1:21:40this is arguably the best match of the night on the car from a pure
- 1:21:44wrestling standpoint. You've got four of the best wrestlers in the ww at the
- 1:21:47time going at it. And like you, I also did not know the
- 1:21:51outcome of this match, so I'm watching it and genuinely getting into the match
- 1:21:57because I didn't know who was going to win. So the fact that this
- 1:22:01match, you know, twenty one years later is a match that you can
- 1:22:04get into because you don't know the outcome and it's not sold in a way
- 1:22:09that's so that's see, that's seemingly predetermined from the outcome, where you know,
- 1:22:13like, oh, obviously this person wanted, obviously this team wanted,
- 1:22:15or what have you. It just made for it being a really good and
- 1:22:18enjoyable match and like I said, arguably the best match of the night from
- 1:22:23a pure wrestling standpoint. Again, all these guys are going at it full
- 1:22:28throttle. They're in their prime, so you know they're going full speed all
- 1:22:32the plenty of um Like I said, plenty of a good team work between
- 1:22:39the two teams, especially between Edge and Ray. The one spot where Edge
- 1:22:43head Ray up on his shoulders almost like in a power bomb position, then
- 1:22:45threw them to the outside and like a mootzal onto. I don't remember if
- 1:22:49it was Angle or Ben why they did it, but like I said,
- 1:22:53just from starting to finish, this was just a great match. So four
- 1:22:56out of five cool, Cool and Doyle. Where is this put you?
- 1:23:04Uh? Yeah, I love this? Uh to a couple of couple of
- 1:23:10spots that stood out for me. Um Well, the whole beginning sequence with
- 1:23:14Angle and Ray was just great. Um Man, fucking Ray had two knees
- 1:23:19to imagine that, Uh, you know, so good. He's so fucking
- 1:23:25good. Uh you know Ray, You know, even with their you know,
- 1:23:30unique distinction of being an act of wrestler and inducted in the Hall of
- 1:23:34Fame, he's still underrated, Like he's probably he might be the most important
- 1:23:41wrestler the last twenty five thirty years. Um, he's just m saying like
- 1:23:46he's in his prime here all all four of these guys. Yeah, just
- 1:23:53um uh couple, let's see a couple of spots that stet out another I'm
- 1:23:57sorry another one oh edge ducks clothesline from ben Wah kind of spears angle through
- 1:24:01the ropes. Uh. Um, Ray does a like a springboard leg drop
- 1:24:09to Ben Wah while ben Wah was like, uh, caught in the ropes.
- 1:24:13That was kind of cool. Uh. But just great pacing, you
- 1:24:16know, classic tag team. Uh you know textbook. You know, the
- 1:24:21heels cut the ring in half. Um, you know, use great double
- 1:24:26team stuff. Um, you know, use referee distractions. Uh. Every
- 1:24:31time the baby Faces got a little momentum, they just snatched it right back.
- 1:24:36Um. And because this match, what do we say, got twenty
- 1:24:40plus minutes, Uh, because it got so much time, both both faces
- 1:24:45got to be the baby face in peril for significant parts of time. Uh
- 1:24:51you know uh uh And and and you know they started off kind of slow.
- 1:24:56They ratcheted it up, they brought it back down, They ratcheted it
- 1:24:58it back up, they brought to back down. You know, it was
- 1:25:00kind of like a pixie song, you know. And because they got the
- 1:25:03time. You know, I feel like a twelve or fifteen minute version of
- 1:25:08this match wouldn't have nearly been as good because they just it just would have
- 1:25:15lacked um. You know, there were so many spots where you felt like
- 1:25:19any of the four guys could win it at any minute. Because that last
- 1:25:24like five or six minutes, it was just fucking phenomenal. You know,
- 1:25:28it felt like anybody could win it at any time. I also had no
- 1:25:30idea what the outcome was going to be. And as I said before,
- 1:25:39I love a tag team that fights with itself. I think that's a great
- 1:25:44gimmick. Edge and Ray kind of looked more like a functioning unit, uh
- 1:25:51than Angel and Ben Watt did. But I don't think I've ever done this.
- 1:25:56I'm giving this five stars. I loved it. I thought this was
- 1:26:00great. WHOA five stars? That's awesome? Oh glad he had a good
- 1:26:08time with this match. Great. I think I would be a match that
- 1:26:14you'd probably here hear about a lot more often if it weren't the Ben Wave
- 1:26:17at all. Yeah, the nostalgia for me for this whole match was great.
- 1:26:21Just of these guys, like you said, all in their prime.
- 1:26:25So I fucking enjoyed the ship. You know, this is one more thing
- 1:26:29that Ben Wall murdered is our ability to love this match, Yeah, and
- 1:26:34all of his matches because he was fucking awesome. I loved him, and
- 1:26:40it fucking sucks. After this, we get a Taker promo when Takers backstage
- 1:26:46and he has a cast on his wrist because Brock Lesner broke his hand,
- 1:26:56which is kind of weird because now Cody Rhodes has a cast because brock Listener
- 1:27:00broke his head with a metal canistan. Yeah. The advancement of technology,
- 1:27:09Yeah, but Taker just had a regular cast. He didn't have that titanium
- 1:27:13steel. Yeah. You know, it's twenty years of medical advancements right there,
- 1:27:18from plaster and fabric to titanium. Yeah. He's just like basically,
- 1:27:23Uh, he reminded me of the like Barney when Barney like duf Man came
- 1:27:30to see Barney, he says, just hook it to my veins. He's
- 1:27:32just like giving me the shot right in the vein. Like it looks like
- 1:27:34he's putting the needle like right in the webbing of his finger or something.
- 1:27:40Uh, get him al juiced up for the for the gimmick match, we
- 1:27:44got later on tonight. Uh, but that was a bold um choice from
- 1:27:51a guy that almost went to prison for the rest of his life for giving
- 1:27:56people injections. Oh my god. Uh sorry, there was an ambulance pass
- 1:28:03my house. I didn't know if they were gonna set off the sirens or
- 1:28:06not. After this, we get a nice break, a nice breather five
- 1:28:13minutes and thirty one seconds, So if anybody had to go to the bathroom,
- 1:28:15and you know, this is probably the time to do it again.
- 1:28:18Uh, you know, that's how Vince always treated it. So the women
- 1:28:25got a title match on the card finally, which was partly we got two
- 1:28:30women's matches on the card. Uh, oh my god, Tory, Yeah,
- 1:28:36Tore and Dahmer at four minutes forty seconds. This was five minutes thirty
- 1:28:40seconds. Trish Stratus as the champion going against the Victoria. Um, I
- 1:28:45didn't I didn't know. I think Victoria was the heel and Trish was the
- 1:28:48face. Kind of I kind of couldn't tell. Yeah, I don't think
- 1:28:54Victoria was ever a baby face. Yeah, um, I don't know.
- 1:28:59I feel like later on in their career, especially Victoria, they had better,
- 1:29:03a better feud, better matches against each other. This one was kind
- 1:29:08of like lick luster. I don't think I had anything now because this ends
- 1:29:13in a roll up, like I really got nothing, you know, christ
- 1:29:18Cot, I mean just like she always does. This is like younger,
- 1:29:23faster moving Trish. But yeah, Victoria. I can't remember a lot of
- 1:29:30things about Victoria except like later down the road she gets a cooler entrance music.
- 1:29:33That's that's about it. Dre anything about this match? Oh, I
- 1:29:42mean you know, yeah, I gave it two out of five Yeah,
- 1:29:45I gave it two out of five stars. Uh. It was better than
- 1:29:47the Dahmer Tory Wilson match at least, and Victoria being the more experienced wrestler,
- 1:29:55she very much carried this match. I believe this is still pretty early
- 1:29:59on in Trish is running as an actual wrestler. Yeah, obviously she's been
- 1:30:02with the company for a while by this point, but a lot of that
- 1:30:05time was spent as either a valet or Vince McMahon's concubine, so I don't
- 1:30:14know how long she's been actually wrestling at this point. So clearly most of
- 1:30:17the obviously a lot of the leg working this match was done by Victoria.
- 1:30:21She pretty much carried trist through this entire match. It's probably about as good
- 1:30:28as you could expect for women's wrestling at this time, honestly. So at
- 1:30:31least there was no hair toss in this match. So yeah, Doyle,
- 1:30:40I really like this version of the Women's Championship. The design of the title,
- 1:30:45Yeah, I like it. Yeah, you know, I think six
- 1:30:50out of these eight matches were title matches. Every single one of the belts
- 1:30:55is different now. It's just kind of interesting, especially in a week where
- 1:30:59we got uh two new women's championships. Um, it's kind of interesting to
- 1:31:04see that belt. Um j R. Says Victoria is chronically pre menstrual,
- 1:31:13which was weird. And then fucking Jerry the King Lawler, I'm gonna say
- 1:31:16that again, Jerry the King Lawler admonishes him for being sexist, which is
- 1:31:24just about the weirdest fucking thing you ever wanted to hear. Uh. Uh.
- 1:31:30Victoria was actually pretty cool. I think I think you're you're short selling.
- 1:31:33Um. She was somebody that did a lot in uh fucking what's the
- 1:31:39t na? Uh, but she was cool. She did that. She
- 1:31:44had like a leg drop flip thing over the top rope that was pretty cool.
- 1:31:47Um. But yeah, I said, I said, you know earlier,
- 1:31:51this was between the two matches, this was the good match, but
- 1:31:55it really wasn't that good. Uh, you know, it didn't get much
- 1:31:58time. The crowd really didn't care. But I feel like both of these
- 1:32:02ladies were fucking capable of a lot better. Um. And yeah, maybe
- 1:32:08they were both still pretty green. Maybe that has something to do with it.
- 1:32:11I'm sure I'm getting in five minutes didn't help. Um. I think
- 1:32:15Trish won with the roll up because I think they were trying to keep Victoria
- 1:32:18strong. Um. And I think they even kind of say like, oh,
- 1:32:24yeah, this is just the beginning of this, like this is going
- 1:32:26to continue when I think it did, right, Um, uh, that's
- 1:32:30super you get that super kick. Uh. You know, we talked about
- 1:32:32how super kick happy we are these days back then, how devastating a superkick
- 1:32:39was U. And then the rep fucking tackles Victoria. That was kind of
- 1:32:44awkward. You don't really see that every day. I'm rolling over him.
- 1:32:48I was like, lucky now. I was like, can you imagine one
- 1:32:53of these referees trying to tackle Rea Ripley? You know, like yeah,
- 1:32:56now, but yeah, I give it a one and a half star.
- 1:33:01Yeah. See one thing about this match, like it really makes me wonder
- 1:33:08how like towards the end of this match, it seemed like Trish was setting
- 1:33:12setting up for her finisher or stratisfaction. And I don't know if they botched
- 1:33:15it where she didn't finish it properly, or if this is still so early
- 1:33:20and Trish's Trish as a wrestler, that she hadn't developed stratisfaction yet, because,
- 1:33:26like I said, she has her in the headlock, she puts the
- 1:33:28arm up like she's doing it, puts her feet on the ropes like she's
- 1:33:31gonna do it, but then just kind of just flips over. So maybe
- 1:33:39they botched it, or maybe it was supposed to be she was supposed to
- 1:33:42finish with stratisfaction. Because they botched it, that's what led to the roll
- 1:33:45up. Well maybe, I mean I I just took it for what it
- 1:33:50want. Yeah, I just I just because they look like they're putting Victoria
- 1:33:57over is this crazy person and you know, so I thought they were just
- 1:34:00trying to keep the heat on her, But that's certainly a possibility. Also,
- 1:34:04I don't know, We may never know. Fucking mystery Okay, So
- 1:34:12this leads up to the main event, um, you know, for the
- 1:34:15for the evening as brock Lessner as the undispeeded champion with Paul Hayman. Uh
- 1:34:21he defeated the Undertaker and a Hell in a Cell match. Now, this
- 1:34:26was my favorite version of the Hell in the Cell. It seemed larger.
- 1:34:30It had the holes on the side that they could climb it. Um maybe
- 1:34:33I don't know, maybe did it? Is it larger than the modern day
- 1:34:38one we have now? I thought smaller, I thought it. I thought
- 1:34:45it was maybe not as tall, but I think wider. I don't know.
- 1:34:50Uh, you know, it seems like the Hell the Cell goes through
- 1:34:53little tweaks throughout the years, just like the Elimination chamber. And at least
- 1:34:57it isn't red. Yeah, yeah, oh my god. That was one
- 1:35:00thing I fucking hated is when they turned the Hell and the Self red.
- 1:35:03I was like, please, like, don't like it's so bad, but
- 1:35:09it's already hard to see into the cell so as it is, and then
- 1:35:13he had red in front of you. So I always think that the the
- 1:35:16you know, the mesh that they have now that the steel looked it was
- 1:35:19always really good. And it had the holes on the size of like the
- 1:35:25wrestlers could safely climbed to the top before they throw somebody off or through the
- 1:35:30cell, which we didn't get in this one. We didn't get anybody escaping
- 1:35:35from the hell in the cell. We didn't get anybody sneaking into the hell
- 1:35:40and the cell, because sometimes you get you know, somebody breaks in.
- 1:35:44This was like legit, it locked, and you know Brock didn't like ripped
- 1:35:47the fucking doors off or nothing. Um, it's crazy how young Broccolistner looks
- 1:35:53in this. Oh my god, I had the same thought. I think
- 1:35:57that about a lot of them, but like Hymn specifically, Yeah, it
- 1:36:01looks a lot younger than he looks about forty years older now Prime Lesner right
- 1:36:06here, this is Prime Lesner. Uh yeah, and it's hungry Lessner too,
- 1:36:15like very hungry, you know, young as shit. I mean he's
- 1:36:18blowing through the ranks. I mean, this guy just beat this year.
- 1:36:23He beat the Rock at Summer Slam for that title, like the Rock.
- 1:36:27He went through hule Cogen, Rick Flair, Roban, Damn, like he
- 1:36:30went through a lot of guys. Yeah he debuted, Yeah, he debuted
- 1:36:34this year, Like, didn't he debuted like the night after Russelemany eighteen,
- 1:36:39I think so yeah yeah, and then and then that summer you know through
- 1:36:44everybody, Yeah, got the strap beat the Rock, Like that's a hell
- 1:36:48of a first year. Um and then now he you know, he gets
- 1:36:53put over by you know, Undertaker, and you know, I like that
- 1:36:59the seeds for this feud, you know, and their and their friendship you
- 1:37:02know, kind of starts here because you know, down the road, we
- 1:37:06all know that the Undertaker's streak ends with brock Lisner. Um. It's just
- 1:37:13crazy to think how many more interactions they have together after this, just throughout
- 1:37:17the years. Um, this is the American This is like towards the end
- 1:37:24of the American Badass because he uh he leaves at the Survivor's Series. He
- 1:37:30has a match not I think it's like two thousand and three. Maybe he
- 1:37:33has a match with the Fensic Man in a Survivor Series match where he gets
- 1:37:36buried alive and then uh, we'll return as the Dead Band. I believe
- 1:37:43they called this version big Evil. Yep, big Evil, that's right.
- 1:37:47Yeah, I remember now with career, yes, Ginger Undertaker, you know
- 1:37:58he's stopped coloring his hair. Um, you know what for this match,
- 1:38:01I really enjoyed this. I think this for me, this is probably the
- 1:38:05match of the night. Um, I'm gonna get like a four and a
- 1:38:09half. Maybe maybe maybe I might end up giving a five stars. Uh,
- 1:38:14this is this is great. Like all the abuse that went through this
- 1:38:17match, the amount of blood. Um, seeing how fast brock Lessner is
- 1:38:25in this match, with the scoop slams he does to Taker and the soup
- 1:38:32plexes and stuff, and just the way he tossed his Undertaker around. Um,
- 1:38:38you know that's just young brock Lessner. Like he's just strong as shit,
- 1:38:42and like the things he could do is like a freak of nature.
- 1:38:45Like when he does the scoop slam the Taker early in the match, you
- 1:38:47know, Takers like a three hundred plus pound man, And the way he
- 1:38:51lifts him up off the ground. He gets off the ground too, like
- 1:38:55just like like a foot like you know, brock gets off the ground.
- 1:39:00But yeah, the way he tossed us to take around, it's fucking crazy.
- 1:39:03Are you telling our audience that brock Lessner at one point had more than
- 1:39:08just a German suplex and his offensive repertoire. Yeah yeah, at one point
- 1:39:14Suplex City wasn't even in the phone book yet. Yeah yeah, not even
- 1:39:19Brock is wearing a bandage on his head, which I had assumed was the
- 1:39:24previous cut, either from the night before, SmackDown before, or just a
- 1:39:30pre cut raiser job. Because there's so much blood in this match. Um,
- 1:39:36if you're a person who's squeamish to blood, maybe this might not be
- 1:39:40your match. But I every time there's color, I enjoy it, especially
- 1:39:45when it's old school like this. Just so much blood. It's the proper
- 1:39:50place. Helen the cell. Maybe a little too much blood, especially from
- 1:39:56Taker. A little concerning amount of blood. I did like the interaction with
- 1:40:00Paul Hammon, how he Taker was able to beat his ass even you know,
- 1:40:08being on the outside of the cell by grabbing his tie, and you
- 1:40:12know, Paul Hammon plays so well, just getting rammed into the cell multiple
- 1:40:15times. And then uh, Brock tries to you know, pinch Taker in
- 1:40:20the side the cell and he moves out of the way and ends up hitting
- 1:40:24Paul Hammond on the other side. Paul Hammond even gets busted open, which
- 1:40:29I have to manage, right, I don't think I've ever seen Paul Hammond
- 1:40:33bleed before, so uh yeah, it was crazy. It's just so much
- 1:40:39blood all around. Uh you know, nobody went through a cell. A
- 1:40:44lot of steel chair shots, a lot of aggressive steel chair shots. Um,
- 1:40:48you know, Brock works on that cast that arm like the entire match
- 1:40:55and ends up taking the cast off. You know, that was really the
- 1:40:59main weakness of Taker here getting beat you know, by a young Brock.
- 1:41:04But I mean, dude, within your first year, you're you're beating you
- 1:41:10know, the Rock and the Undertaker, Like that's pretty fucking nice to put
- 1:41:15under your belt for a first year. They get twenty seven minutes eighteen seconds,
- 1:41:21so a great amount of time there. Uh Dre, what are you
- 1:41:26rating this match? Uh yeah, I gave this four out of five stars.
- 1:41:30This was one of the most brutal hell in a cell matches you can
- 1:41:34ever hope to see. And the funny thing is, I remember back then
- 1:41:39at the time, a lot of people complained about this hell and cell match
- 1:41:44because it didn't have some crazy cage spots, because that's what we were used
- 1:41:47to from Helen the cells, from mcfoldy getting thrown off the top to Undertaker
- 1:41:53throwing Rakishi off the Top too, you know the stuff that happen with undertaking
- 1:41:58Shawn Michaels. People forget that that match didn't really have a crazy cage spot.
- 1:42:00As the first ever held in the Cells match, it didn't have any
- 1:42:04crazy off the top spot. But a lot of people have forgotten that.
- 1:42:08So people saw this match and the like, there was no crazy cage spot.
- 1:42:12There was nobody when nobody went outside, nobody went off the top.
- 1:42:15Nothing. It was just a pure brawl in the cage. Just brutality,
- 1:42:19two big men beating the living shit out of each other, which, like
- 1:42:24I said, at the time, a lot of people didn't appreciate. But
- 1:42:29I think this match has really aged well over time. I think it is
- 1:42:32one of the one of the better Hell in the Cell matches looking back on
- 1:42:35it in retrospect, like I said, just the sheer brutality of it,
- 1:42:40everybody getting tons of color, even, like I said, even Paul Hayman,
- 1:42:45just and seeing brock Lesler, and like I said, what I call
- 1:42:49prime brock Lesler. Brock Lesler when he had his power and his speed and
- 1:42:54more than just a German sup plex in his offense, he actually wrestled and
- 1:43:00he you know, he could go in the rink with anybody. And this
- 1:43:04wasn't even the best of Lesner yet that we were the best was still yet
- 1:43:08to come with Lesner. This was still him establishing himself, still proving himself,
- 1:43:13as you know, as a main eventor. And this was probably the
- 1:43:16match that did it for him. Even though he had already yet been pushed
- 1:43:19to the top and pretty much been given a Goldberg esque type of run,
- 1:43:25this was really the match that kind of solidified that he can carry a main
- 1:43:29event in my opinion. So yeah, this match, it was a four
- 1:43:33out of five. This was probably the best match of the night overall,
- 1:43:39just a form of pure from overall entertainment aspect, This is probably the best
- 1:43:42match of the night. What are you thinking. Yeah, we we briefly
- 1:43:48touched on this, but those video packages before the matches were you know,
- 1:43:54nowadays, watching them in real time, I'm like, let the fuck just
- 1:43:57get to the point, you know, But watching these old ones back,
- 1:44:01I'm kind of grateful for them because uh not like this is a particularly nuanced
- 1:44:05story, but you know I would have been a wise tunk taker of a
- 1:44:11cast. Well you know, like uh uh so that you know, I
- 1:44:15get I've found them very helpful, uh in getting back up to speed with
- 1:44:18some of this stuff. Um mentioned Brock breaking arms. Um, this is
- 1:44:25only the ninth Helen a Cell match ever, but it's it's Takers six already
- 1:44:30h and Brock's first. Uh, and it's pretty good Helen a Cell match.
- 1:44:35I kind of feel like Drey kind of mentioned that kind of feels forgotten.
- 1:44:41Uh. You know, I guess when you do a gimmick match fifty
- 1:44:44plus times, uh, you know some of them are going to fall through
- 1:44:47the cracks. And I think you know, when you think of a Helen
- 1:44:51Cell obviously probably go right to Taker and Mankind or Taker and Sean or you
- 1:44:59know that six way match, uh where they had Rakishi at the world talking
- 1:45:02about where he did the spot into the truck, you know, or you
- 1:45:08think about you know, Triple H and Foley or or Shange. You know,
- 1:45:13there's just so many right that that this one kind of you forget about
- 1:45:16it. Um, but it's great. I mean Taker did a great job
- 1:45:21selling that hand. Um. Hayman was great screaming and yelling on the outside.
- 1:45:27Uh the spot where where where Taker at his necktie and he was just
- 1:45:33pulling him into the cage and bouncing him off and pulling him back. That
- 1:45:36was hilarious. That was great. Um U take her bleeding like crazy with
- 1:45:45a fucking close up of the blood just gushing out. Uh. I mean
- 1:45:48this has to be the bloodiest Undertaker ever, was right? Uh? Like,
- 1:45:54I mean it's not like he never bled, but holy shit, I
- 1:45:59mean this is like point nine on the Moodha scale. Um. Not a
- 1:46:03lot of pinner submission attempts. Uh. I guess the point was kind of
- 1:46:08beating the hell out of each other. Uh and not but you think that
- 1:46:12they would, you know, try to win the world title while they're at
- 1:46:15it at some point. I like the blood on the camera, I think
- 1:46:20I think um one of the commentators trying to say that it was sweat not
- 1:46:25blood, but it was clearly blood definitely. UM. I didn't understand.
- 1:46:31Why why the hell? Then this is like the biggest problem I have in
- 1:46:35this match. Why does a rope break stop the count and the hell on
- 1:46:39a cell match? I made no fucking sense. It's no dq Like,
- 1:46:45why is a rope break stop a pinfall attempt? Um? A rope break
- 1:46:49is stop a pinfall attempt? But Undertake. It can try to pin Brock
- 1:46:54loser on the outside, yeah, like exactly, or you can hit somebody
- 1:46:58in the head with the steel chair or whatever you know. Um, but
- 1:47:03the fucking ending sequence with Brock countering the tombstone and F five and the way
- 1:47:09he just fucking tosses when we said three hundred pounds of Undertaker just over his
- 1:47:15head like it's nothing after having a thirty minute wrestling match, Uh, fucking
- 1:47:20crazy. Uh. I give this one four stars. This is great.
- 1:47:25Uh. And I think if there was you know, it lacked that um,
- 1:47:30you know, insane somebody going flying off the top of the cage,
- 1:47:33you know kind of spot. And maybe that's why, um, you know,
- 1:47:41it's it's you never hear about this match, right, but uh,
- 1:47:46I feel like you should, you know. I feel like this one gets
- 1:47:48short changed. But yeah, if you don't like blood, this one ain't
- 1:47:53for you. Yeah yeah, yeah. I think if people went back and
- 1:48:00watch this match, they would have a newfound appreciation for this match. Yeah.
- 1:48:03I totally forgotten about it, and it was just like wow, all
- 1:48:09right, Yeah, it's been so long since I've seen this match. Um
- 1:48:15uh yeah, I mean so that's that's pretty much it for the pay per
- 1:48:19view, I mean not a super long pay per view, almost three hours.
- 1:48:25They probably could have made it a little bit shorter. They cut some
- 1:48:27of the massive amount of recaps back a little bit, just a little bit.
- 1:48:33Overall, he was pretty good. Uh. You know what we'll do
- 1:48:40is before I go on to a wards Doyle, don't you don't you have
- 1:48:45something you wanna talk about? Oh I do, in fact, and look
- 1:48:50through all your paperwork. Yeah, you weren't supposed to hear that. Mum,
- 1:48:57yeah, I mean this this week's uh the dead wrestler of the leak.
- 1:49:01Uh. Unfortunately is was the Iron Cheek you know. Um uh I
- 1:49:08think I started. I think I started watching around around about the time of
- 1:49:13WrestleMania one, which ages me right. Um, but like so Iron Cheek,
- 1:49:18I mean, I guess Piper two Uh was at the first heel I
- 1:49:21really remember. Um. Uh. So by then, you know, the
- 1:49:27Hogan, the Hogan thing had already happened. Uh. He was winning the
- 1:49:30tag titles with Nikita Koloff at the first WrestleMania. Um. And you know,
- 1:49:36I fucking I was five six years old, Uh, you know,
- 1:49:41and I don't I didn't know where what you know where or what I ran
- 1:49:45or the Soviet Union was, you know. Uh, but I knew that
- 1:49:47they were the bad guys, you know, both in wrestling, ending all
- 1:49:53the movies and the TV shows. Um, so you know, certainly they
- 1:49:59were the first bad guys I remember. And he was a great heel man.
- 1:50:03Uh. Those fucking boots with the he would load them up. In
- 1:50:09fact, that was one of the first first clues in for me, was
- 1:50:13like this might not be uh it, because just what the hell is stomping
- 1:50:18stomping the boot do? Like why does that suddenly make it deadly or whatever?
- 1:50:25But yeah, I think most people nowadays probably know him from Twitter and
- 1:50:30shoot interviews and stuff. And I'll get to that in a second. Um.
- 1:50:32But when what a life and what a career this guy had. He
- 1:50:36was sucking the bodyguard for the show of Iran. Uh. He competed to
- 1:50:42be on the nineteen sixty eight Iranian Olympic team. He missed out in the
- 1:50:45finals. Uh. He ends up defecting to America and ends up being a
- 1:50:48coach the Americans on the Olympics in nineteen seventy two. But he becomes a
- 1:50:56great heel you know, and uh, as I've covered several times, foreign
- 1:51:00heels always work, always draw heat, and he's only the ninth WWF champion.
- 1:51:06It's kind of crazy. Uh. The belt debuted in nineteen sixty three.
- 1:51:13This is nineteen eighty four, so twenty years they only had nine champions.
- 1:51:17And back then, the kind of way stuff would work is baby Face
- 1:51:23would have the title for years. Heel would beat them, be champion for
- 1:51:26a couple of weeks, lose it to a different baby Face, but would
- 1:51:30be champion for years. And that's kind of what happened here. Chik was
- 1:51:34in fact, you know a trend that they call it a transitional champion,
- 1:51:39but he's transitioned between the second longest and the third longest reigns of all time,
- 1:51:45between Backland uh Backland's first reign and Hogan's first reign. Uh. He
- 1:51:50only held the title for about a month, but also famously UH tag team
- 1:52:00champion one time. As I said with Nikita, Kohlov also arrested with ax
- 1:52:06O Jim Duggan when they refuting, and they just happened to have a little
- 1:52:10bit of marijuana and some cocaine in the car, and Vince wasn't really pissed
- 1:52:15off with the drugs so much as he was about the two feuding wrestlers being
- 1:52:20seen partying and doing drugs together in public, which is kind of funny with
- 1:52:27the history of k fabe. He was of course involved with Sergeant Slaughter in
- 1:52:31the Iraq Angled or in the Persian Gulf War. He won the gimmick Battle
- 1:52:36Royal and arguably the best WrestleMania of all time, WrestleMania seventeen. Some say
- 1:52:44the reason he won the Battle Royals because he couldn't take a bump over the
- 1:52:46top rope, but that's neither here nor there. But I guessaid in retirement
- 1:52:51he sort of became, you know, kind of an online personality if you
- 1:52:59will. A lot of Howard Stern appearances are prolific shinty shoot interviewee um.
- 1:53:06If you're looking for some stuff, I would recommend checking out on YouTube.
- 1:53:10When he's on The Stern Show and Artie Lange pretends to be the Iron Cheek
- 1:53:15Junior, that's pretty funny. There's a good shoot interview I just discovered actually
- 1:53:21with with uh this has this for a trio. It's Iron Cheek New Jack
- 1:53:27and a Honky Tonk Man and uh I wouldn't watch that one if you're at
- 1:53:31work. Let's just say, um, but the chic U was a prolific
- 1:53:36tweeter. Uh. Now, I don't believe that he was h the one
- 1:53:41necessarily doing all of the tweets himself. Um, but uh he really he
- 1:53:48really kept the Hogan feud going. Uh uh if if it wasn't totally one
- 1:53:55sided. But um, without further ado, here's a little little selection of
- 1:54:00uh iron cheek tweets about Hulk Hogan. Um, happy Thanksgiving to everyone except
- 1:54:06the Hulk Hogan. Hulk Cogan may have been a dumb son of a bitch
- 1:54:12in the ring, but outside of the ring, he was also a dumb
- 1:54:15son of a bitch. How Cogan, you are worse than airport tuna sandwich.
- 1:54:21How Cogan, you are worse than the automatic twenty percent tip on a
- 1:54:26party of six or more. Hule Cogan is not a jabron Oh this is
- 1:54:32this is this is On April first, twenty seventeen, Hule Cogan is not
- 1:54:38a Jabroni. April Fool's Day, you fucking Jabroni. And actually, just
- 1:54:45two days before he died, he texted, fuck Hogan. Yeah. I
- 1:54:51think his last week was like fuck the wildfires and Kenny. Yeah, oh,
- 1:54:57I hope so I can relate to that. But uh but I think
- 1:55:00a lot of people, maybe not maybe don't realize is that. Um he
- 1:55:03was a huge music fan and uh a lot. Oh he's a lot.
- 1:55:10A lot of tweets their music related and some of them are also involved Holk
- 1:55:15Hogan. But I made a little selection of some of them as well.
- 1:55:19Um, desperto why don't you come to your senses, you dumb son of
- 1:55:25a bitch. Uh, let's say, I love the rock and roll,
- 1:55:30but the fucking jukebox, baby costs more than a dime. Get your shit
- 1:55:33together, Joan Joan Jet Bubba and he's really headed out for bon Jovi and
- 1:55:41uh, I frankly, I can't can't blame him. Uh, John bon
- 1:55:45Jovi, you embarrass me. You do that, Here comes the sun next
- 1:55:48time I see you, Here comes the supplex on your fucking head. So
- 1:55:54I cam will clutch John bon Jovi in a bed of roses. John bon
- 1:55:59Jovi, Bubba, you are good, but we all know you give love
- 1:56:01a bad name, you dumb son of a bitch. Sorry, there's so
- 1:56:09many I'm just trying to pick out the best one. We built this city
- 1:56:12on rock and roll and beating the fuck out of Coogan. If there was
- 1:56:18something in the air that night and the stars were bright, then Fernando,
- 1:56:21you dumb son of a bitch. She doesn't want to have sex with you,
- 1:56:26Jabroni. And it goes on like this. Uh, Pearl Jam and
- 1:56:31the Motley Crew, both of you shut the fuck up before he beat the
- 1:56:34fuck out of you both. And of course he had to go after nickelback.
- 1:56:39Nickelback, you fucking JABRONI never ever fuck with the slip knot or break
- 1:56:44your fucking five cent neck. So oh, I'll just sorry one more after
- 1:56:51all these years. Let's be honest, Bubba and Michael Jackson's song The Girl
- 1:56:57Is Mine The Girl was one hundred percent Paul's. But uh. In closing,
- 1:57:01I think the cheek can best be remembered with a tweet of his that's
- 1:57:06actually pinned to the top of his page still to this day. It's from
- 1:57:12twenty eighteen, and it says something that's take a minute out of your day
- 1:57:15to be nice to someone, you dumb son of a bitch. Oh my
- 1:57:23god, well thank you for that. You got it all right, piece
- 1:57:27of the legend is the right cheek all right? Uh, you know what,
- 1:57:31we got some awards. Let's do the awards real quick. Awards.
- 1:57:47It's been a while since I got to play that bumper. We haven't a
- 1:57:50done awards bumper in quite some time. Uh. For best dressed and worst
- 1:57:56dressed. For best, I actually had Damn and Brave Mysterio. Like I
- 1:58:02said, two guys who always changed their you know, their outfits every pay
- 1:58:08per view. It seems like so I kind of enjoy seeing those you know
- 1:58:13every time because of how often they change him. Worst one, I guess
- 1:58:16Jamie Noble and his white trash looking ripped up shorts, dre What if you
- 1:58:26have for best dress and worst dress? Um, I really didn't have anybody
- 1:58:31for best dress. Given that this is kind of just one of the run
- 1:58:34of the mill pay per views, nobody really broke out anything special for this
- 1:58:39show. Yeah, Rob Van Damn's outfit was nice to see, but I
- 1:58:44don't know that this was like a special one that he broke out just for
- 1:58:47this or something that we probably didn't see on like a raw before or after
- 1:58:51this show. But so I didn't really have anybody for best dressed, Worst
- 1:58:56dressed. I gave it to Christian that pants and single combo was just not
- 1:59:01Yeah, I agree with that. I agree with that, Doyle, who'd
- 1:59:05you have for best dress and worst dress? My best dress was Paul Hayman's
- 1:59:11Crimson Mask. Uh, because you just you don't fucking see Paul Hammon blading
- 1:59:17himself in twenty twenty three. I also had Christian. Uh he looked like
- 1:59:26absolute garbage. The hair, the outfit awful. But since Ray I said
- 1:59:30that, I will pivot and go with the fucking Jericho's chin pube goatee.
- 1:59:35He had Rock and that thing was fucking awful. Also, yes, yeah,
- 1:59:41I know that I didn't hate that look that he had. Right,
- 1:59:44he had so many looks and so many different facial hair configurations and this the
- 1:59:49hair was okay, but that's this facial hair had to be amongst his worst.
- 1:59:57Yeah, yeah, I agreed. Uh, let's see the best entrances
- 2:00:03and the worst entrance. Uh. For best, I had Ray and Edge.
- 2:00:09I liked to raise entrance when he pops up out of the uh you
- 2:00:13know the stage. Uh, that was a good thing to see. I
- 2:00:17totally forgot about that one. And you know, Edge with the classic you
- 2:00:21know rob zombie entrance. Uh, you know, like I said, you're
- 2:00:28probably gonna be against it the boat, but I did like Christian's entrance.
- 2:00:31I thought it was so I don't know, after this, I feel like
- 2:00:34he gets a better theme music and he gets some pyro, so it's a
- 2:00:39little bit better, and he gets his head pyro for a while that was
- 2:00:43pretty cool, where like sparks came down. Yeah, yeah, that's it.
- 2:00:47Yeah, so you know, it's probably like one of my least favorite
- 2:00:50entrances of the evening. Um, you know, brock Lessner's entrance has like
- 2:00:58never changed, is still best in goddamn music. He has pyro to the
- 2:01:03corners of the robes a couple of years later, but that's about it.
- 2:01:06Oddly enough, though, when he came out to the rink, the crowd
- 2:01:10was completely dead silent. Yeah, still a great roll reaction. Yeah he
- 2:01:17was a heel, but I mean, like they didn't even boom him or
- 2:01:19anything. It's funny the dichotomy between the guys that used the same music for
- 2:01:27fucking twenty years and the other guys. Some guys it seems like they changed
- 2:01:30their theme song every two or three years, you know, like we've talked
- 2:01:35about like, you know, like Edge, I feel like it's had a
- 2:01:38million theme songs. Uh, you know, Ray has had a cap full,
- 2:01:42Jericho had a copful, but like you know, like triple H fucking
- 2:01:46Seaun Michaels is still I mean, I guess he's not an active wrestler anymore,
- 2:01:51but anytime he comes out and or anything, he's still the same fucking
- 2:01:56theme song he was using and what ninety three, you know, like thirty
- 2:02:00years. Once they find when that works, they stick with it. Yeah.
- 2:02:09Uh, Dre, what did you have the best entrance? Um?
- 2:02:15Yeah, I would also give that to probably Ray and Edge. Like he
- 2:02:17said, seeing Ray pop about the ring, there was a nice touch of
- 2:02:21nostalgia. And among Edges entrance teams, this one the Rob Zombie Never Gonna
- 2:02:26Stop Me was my favorite, So it was nice to hear that again.
- 2:02:29Um. Worst entrance, I'm gonna give it to Rick Flair just for the
- 2:02:32simple fact that he came out to anything other than Asso's also surprises through stra
- 2:02:40Anything other than that is pure blasphemy. That it wasn't. It wasn't you
- 2:02:45know it was it wasn't it was some other shit. It was like somebody
- 2:02:49said let's try to change it up, Rick, let's come up with something
- 2:02:53new for you to go dot com version. Yeah, it was not It
- 2:02:59was not the one that we know. It was something else. It tried
- 2:03:02to sound similar to it, like, but it wasn't like a remix.
- 2:03:06It was like somebody tried to create a theme for a new theme for Rick
- 2:03:12that was similar to that but different. I don't know if they did that
- 2:03:15because WW. You know, you know how much w W is all about
- 2:03:18ownership and possession, and they maybe they wanted something that they could call theirs
- 2:03:23because obviously, you know, also scratched Zarathustra is public domain, so that
- 2:03:28can literally be used any anywhere. And before it was Rick Flair's theme,
- 2:03:31it was in two thousand and one of Space Odyssey. So maybe yeah,
- 2:03:35it's a particular performance of it or recording of it or whatever that I guess
- 2:03:40you got to worry about whether it's the London Philharmonic doing it or whoever the
- 2:03:45fuck else. You know, Yeah, but I mean anybody can record it.
- 2:03:47It's because it's public domain, just like the Hardy Boys thing is public
- 2:03:51domain. So but so whether I don't like that, I don't know if
- 2:03:55WW just wanted something that they owned as opposed to that. But either way,
- 2:04:00it's Rick Flair. He comes out to one theme and one theme only.
- 2:04:03Don't try to don't try to remake the wheel. That was just pure
- 2:04:08blasphemy. So that was the worst entrance for me, Doyle, best and
- 2:04:13worst entrance for you? Well, this is tough because it's such a tiny
- 2:04:17little entrance, right and uh, you know there's no branding of any kind
- 2:04:25for the pay per view and set to speak of. Although yeah, I
- 2:04:29will say I do kind of miss that ramp. I thought that ramp was
- 2:04:31fun. You know, somebody would suit black somebody on that ramp or whatever.
- 2:04:35Um, But yeah, I thought kind of slim pickings here. I
- 2:04:40love Jaricho's entrance at this time. Uh some I'm going with that for best.
- 2:04:45Uh. I still think that was fun. He made the most out
- 2:04:49of a tiny little ramp. Um. Worst entrance, I'm going with Taker
- 2:04:55because you know, the guy that's known for these app inferences. It was
- 2:05:02in the ring in fifteen seconds for this time, you know. Uh so
- 2:05:08you know you used to this big epic five minute event, you know.
- 2:05:14Uh, and it's just like a normal guy coming down was theme zone getting
- 2:05:17hit in the ring and was yeah, he would have been my number two
- 2:05:21th you know nothing, you know nothing, no bells, no vessels,
- 2:05:27no frills. Uh all right, best spot and then your botched moment.
- 2:05:35My best spot is, believe or not. It was the interaction with Paul
- 2:05:41Hamon and Undertaker during the Hell of the Cell. The fact that he was
- 2:05:45able to beat him up from the inside and get him to to get color.
- 2:05:50I thought that was great. Um in botch moment, I guess I
- 2:05:55would have to say, when y TJ broke the rope. Uh, it's
- 2:05:59pretty big botch right there, big oopsee Uh, Drey, did you have
- 2:06:04for best spot your botch moment? Uh? Yeah, My best spot was
- 2:06:10brock Lester countering the Tombstone into the F five. Just him for him to
- 2:06:15have that much strength still in him at that stage in the match was just
- 2:06:18impressive and just man handling Taker and just throwing him up on his shoulders for
- 2:06:25the F five. That was impressive as hell. Um botch moment. Also
- 2:06:30is the rope break during the first match. All in all, I think
- 2:06:32this was a pretty clean pay per view. There weren't too many moments that
- 2:06:36I thought of that were that really stood out to me as really botches.
- 2:06:42So yeah, that was obviously the big one. Cool, uh Doyle,
- 2:06:49would you have? Yeah? Also, Um also had brock that sequence with
- 2:06:57Taker there at the end with the tombstone counter in the F five that was
- 2:07:01fucking Jesus Christ. Uh. It was fairly clean in terms of the botches.
- 2:07:10Nobody really fucked anything up too bad. Uh. So I'm gonna go
- 2:07:14with our friend Tracy Um, the worst actress in the history of uh anything
- 2:07:23recorded medium when she said to Stephanie besides, despite the fact that there was
- 2:07:30a camera in her face between you and I, this while Undertaker bullshit is
- 2:07:35a lie or whatever. Like I always love it when of these people do
- 2:07:40these nefarious, clandestine things in front of a camera that is going to be
- 2:07:45brought you know, and and but nobody knows about it somehow. I guess
- 2:07:49they don't watch the show that maybe they didn't have a vcrum where TiVo back
- 2:07:56then. Uh. Well, yeah, that's my botch. It's it's a
- 2:08:00saying between you and I. Yeah. Uh, okay, promo moment that
- 2:08:05may have stuck out, doesn't it doesn't could be good or bad. And
- 2:08:09your mark out moment. Uh, what made you mark out for me?
- 2:08:15Promo? It kind of was a little crumsworthy on the RVD stuff because I
- 2:08:20was like, the jokes are all there, man, but your delivery is
- 2:08:22all wrong, and I didn't think it was kind of funny. It's seeing
- 2:08:26the big show we tossed Eric bish Off around. Um. But yeah,
- 2:08:31anything with Tracy involved it was just awful, just awful and a nice chuckle
- 2:08:37out of Funaki's promo, UM and my mark out moment. Honestly, it
- 2:08:43was just a couple of spots that were during that that SmackDown Tactam title match.
- 2:08:50It was just such a great match bella bell that like there was just
- 2:08:54moments in it, just high spots that like I was like, oh shit,
- 2:08:56like it's been a while since I seeing this match, Like I can
- 2:09:01you know. It was definitely like one of the top two matches on the
- 2:09:05card. Um dre, Is there a promo spot that stuck out to you
- 2:09:09that you want to talk about or mark out moment? Men? Your mark
- 2:09:13out? Um? The only promo that really stuck out to me was just
- 2:09:18the Intercontinental title title package. Just that sequence of just nostalgia and reminiscing on
- 2:09:24that belt. It was nice to see some of those uh classics, some
- 2:09:28of those old school moments. As far as a mark out moment, there
- 2:09:31was no mark out moment for me on this show. All right, Uh,
- 2:09:35Doyle, what about you? My promo is when Angle comes out don't
- 2:09:41know wherever the hell he was beating on Chavo and he just goes, how
- 2:09:46are you doing? I thought that was hilarious. I'm still laughing about it
- 2:09:52now. Uh. Uh. Markout momentum was when they fucking uh they Taker's
- 2:10:00cast. They the belt wrapped around Taker's cast and kind of tied him to
- 2:10:05the cage and Brock just beat the shit out of it with a chair and
- 2:10:09then ripped it off. Obviously the Undertaker didn't really haven't broken arm or whatever,
- 2:10:15but could you imagine if he if he did, Like, holy fuck,
- 2:10:18how much that would hurt if someone was just pounded on your fucking broken,
- 2:10:22already broken arm. So yeah, that that that kind of uh just
- 2:10:28thinking about if that had been real, like fuck, god damn it,
- 2:10:31how much that would have hurt? I marked out right. It's always good
- 2:10:39to have a nice market moment you can remember. Uh, all right,
- 2:10:43what is your no fly moment? Stuff? That wouldn't work today, uh
- 2:10:48back in two thousand and two. And then what is a moment you notice
- 2:10:52some momentum changing for a wrestler. I guess you know we talked about it
- 2:10:58earlier with the ref roll around with the women that totally wouldn't be allowed today,
- 2:11:03at least not a male referee. And just the obscene amount of blood
- 2:11:09we got in that last match. It's just so much. I don't think
- 2:11:13that that ship would fly today. And probably half of the comments that the
- 2:11:18King and Ja are made during the women's matches, Drey, what about what
- 2:11:24about you? Uh oh on at my momentum moment? Sorry, uh just
- 2:11:35probably get uh yeah, my momentum moment is the when the new SmackDown titles
- 2:11:43get one. Just the the great tag teams that are on SmackDown at that
- 2:11:48time, just competing for that. You know, we were talking about Los
- 2:11:52Guerreros earlier. Um, there's just so many good tag teams on on SmackDown.
- 2:11:56I believe like at some point like Batista Sho was up and he forms
- 2:12:01a tag team, great mysterio on that on that roster is just um,
- 2:12:05just many many. They're pretty full with tag teams at that point. Also,
- 2:12:11you know the momentum of brock Lessener, you know, just coming off
- 2:12:13of SummerSlam beating the Rock and now he's beating the Undertaker, so he's just
- 2:12:18gonna ride that for a little bit longer until so Ryris series Trey. Would
- 2:12:24you do you have any um no fly moments and did you notice any momentum
- 2:12:30for a wrestler. Um. Yeah, as far as no fly moments,
- 2:12:33like you said, it's it's the stuff involving the women. Obviously, from
- 2:12:39the comments that are made to the male referee rolling around with the women and
- 2:12:43then ship and them essentially houring out Nadia having her kiss the ref into Jerry
- 2:12:50and Jamie Noble. None of that ship will fly today. And also,
- 2:12:54like you said, the share amount of blood that was spilled during the Hell
- 2:12:56in the Cell match, obviously w W not doing that today. From momentum
- 2:13:03changing moment, I give it to brock Lesner winning the Hell of the Sale
- 2:13:07match clean over the Undertaker. I think that pretty much like I said before,
- 2:13:11it solidified him as a main eventor and a top guy in the WWE.
- 2:13:16After this, like I said, he wasn't just a guy that they
- 2:13:20were just pushing to the top just because at this point he had earned the
- 2:13:24respect of everyone after this match, And it's not a surprise that not too
- 2:13:30long after this brock Lester turned baby face because at this point he was he
- 2:13:35was bona fied, he was certified after this match. I think even after
- 2:13:39this, I think the following SmackDown, Undertaker cut a promo saying that Lessner
- 2:13:43had earned his respect at all. So, yeah, this was the match
- 2:13:48that, like I said, it's solidified brock Lesner as a top guy in
- 2:13:52the company. So to me, that was the momentum changing moment. Yeah,
- 2:14:00Will Yeah, I mean, you know, the obvious one is is
- 2:14:05uh the blood uh? You know, especially uh uh at WrestleMania this year
- 2:14:11between Edge and Finn, we had a Hell and the Cell match stopped because
- 2:14:15of blood. Uh. And in this match they're they're zooming in on on
- 2:14:18spurting, you know. Uh. And then you know another it's one of
- 2:14:24the women thing. Uh, but specifically, um we want puppies chant uh.
- 2:14:31I get it. Was it during Trish and um Victoria or was it
- 2:14:35the was it the the Tory Dahm Marie match? I don't remember, which
- 2:14:39doesn't matter. Would you imagine uh chant like that chant or something similar like
- 2:14:45you know, just show your kids or whatever. Uh, while fucking Becky
- 2:14:48and whoever you know Bianca or wrestling and like I feel like Becky would stop
- 2:14:56the match and go out in the crowd and fucking start punching people, you
- 2:14:58know what I mean? Uh? And again it speaks to the evolution of
- 2:15:03women's wrestling, which is good, you know, and that positive I think
- 2:15:07for everybody. Um, speaking of evolution, my momentum changer is uh the
- 2:15:13kind of beginnings of evolution. You're starting to see Flair and Trips hanging out
- 2:15:20more and being more closely associated. Um trivia question, do you guys know
- 2:15:26who was supposed to be originally slated to be in the Batista spot in Evolution?
- 2:15:33And there's even a promo and a couple of photos you can find of
- 2:15:37this guy in Evolution along with Randy Flare And is it Mark Jindrak? It
- 2:15:45is, in fact Mark Jindrag? Yeah? Talk what might have been?
- 2:15:52Yeah? Really, what might happen? Maybe he would have been drags to
- 2:15:56destroy it doubtful? Yeah? Uh yeah, guys, Uh that's it for
- 2:16:05this for this pay per view. I mean, I don't really have any
- 2:16:11news to talk about this week except for Money in the Bank is coming up
- 2:16:15and we're probably gonna do a predictions episode uh and then a post. But
- 2:16:22you know, if as for Ruthless Aggression pay per views, the next time
- 2:16:26we have a window for one, we have uh backlash from two thousand and
- 2:16:31eight. That one. I went have to dig up to see what that
- 2:16:35one's all about, because that's been it's been a hot minute. Uh back
- 2:16:41Backlash two thousand and eight. I'm typing in myself so I can get out.
- 2:16:46Here we go, Here we go, uh Undertakers on the cover of
- 2:16:50it. Uh, we have Rely Matt Matt Hardy versus MVP Night Say his
- 2:17:00title, Kane versus Chavo for the ECW Big Show, and Great Collie Shawn
- 2:17:07Michaels versus Batista, Women's match, Taker versus Edge Triple H uh Fatal four
- 2:17:18Way Triple H Durani Or and John Cena and JBL for the WW title.
- 2:17:24So only eight matches on there, but yeah, it would be something something.
- 2:17:31Uh. Yeah, Money in the Bank looks kind of promising thus far.
- 2:17:35Uh. You know, they're still going through the torturing process of figuring
- 2:17:39out who's going to be in the money the rank match itself. Well,
- 2:17:45I think the men's is set, right, I think it's set. Women
- 2:17:50had one TBD. Yeah, yeah, we're still on that. I should
- 2:17:54I should give credit where credit is due. I believe it was you,
- 2:17:58sir, that correctly predicted austin theory weasel his way into the money in the
- 2:18:05bank last year. And when was that you? Yeah, so, as
- 2:18:11I said that if the men's field is set, maybe it isn't. Yeah,
- 2:18:18yeah, he could definitely wiggle his way in. Uh you know,
- 2:18:22things would definitely changed with him next one. But somebody else, Yeah yeah,
- 2:18:26maybe montes Ford we could see wiggle his way into this match. I
- 2:18:28heard. You know, I'm starting to think that maybe uh you know,
- 2:18:33he goes on a losing streak and maybe Bianco goes on a losing streak.
- 2:18:39Yeah, maybe that's the start of their heel turn, you know, which
- 2:18:43we all think is coming. As as we've discussed that, Nausea might think,
- 2:18:48uh yeah, I heard rumors of them trying to squeeze through McIntyre in
- 2:18:52if it makes him happy. I don't. I think it might be too
- 2:18:56late for that, sure, because it's in in London. Well, it's
- 2:19:00funny they when they booked the venue, it looked like he would be a
- 2:19:05major part of whatever storyline was going in six months. Right now he's like
- 2:19:09not involved in anything. Yeah, and not involved at all? Um,
- 2:19:13tyl, do you have anything you want to plug? Uh no, I'm
- 2:19:18just you know, you know where to find me. I'm in the pc
- 2:19:22W in the PCL discords there and uh uh continue to get well soon Nick
- 2:19:31and uh go red Sox and uh we'll see if for money in the bank
- 2:19:35and a couple and maybe a week or two. Yeah, uh dre,
- 2:19:39where do you got to plug? Um? Nothing really to plug this time
- 2:19:43around. Just you know where to find me, PCL, PCW discord.
- 2:19:48I'll play a whole lot of Diablo for it right now, So anybody else
- 2:19:50playing Diablo get at me? Yeah, uh yeah. And then you can
