- 0:00Speaker 1: 9.9 News and Stimulating Talk, and we can say this
- 0:05Speaker 1: is the Lee Elsie Show. As Mel Allen would say,
- 0:08Speaker 1: how about that? And I am Tony D'Angelo, and I
- 0:13Speaker 1: am your host for this particular show. The show of 9-15-2026,
- 0:19Speaker 1: and I'm honored to do it, broadcasting loud and proud
- 0:24Speaker 1: all over New York, anywhere we want to go.
- 0:28Speaker 2: We're all over the world.
- 0:29Speaker 1: We're all over the internet. We're over New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts,
- 0:34Speaker 1: Rhode Island, and Long Island. Thank you so much for
- 0:37Speaker 1: being here. I love that Peter Frampton song. I just
- 0:40Speaker 1: keep thinking about the lyrics. I've done a lot of
- 0:42Speaker 1: foolish things that I really didn't mean. Don't ever look
- 0:47Speaker 1: at a movie of your life, folks. Anyway, let's get
- 0:49Speaker 1: started with prayer. We'll get to the business of the
- 0:51Speaker 1: day and the program. And actually... D'Angelo, find the prayer.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Please join me. Heavenly Father, we come before you with
- 1:00Speaker 1: humble hearts asking for your mercy and your peace in
- 1:02Speaker 1: this uncertain hour. We lift up the leaders of our
- 1:05Speaker 1: nation and leaders around the world. Grant them wisdom beyond
- 1:09Speaker 1: their own understanding, courage to do what is right, and
- 1:12Speaker 1: discernment that may prevent needless suffering. Guide every decision with justice, restraint,
- 1:17Speaker 1: and a desire for peace. Lord, we pray for the
- 1:20Speaker 1: brave men and women of our military and Our police officers, firefighters, paramedics,
- 1:25Speaker 1: and all first responders, including the officers of ICE, surround
- 1:28Speaker 1: them with your protection, strengthen them for the difficult days ahead,
- 1:32Speaker 1: comfort their families, and bring them safely home. Also, please
- 1:36Speaker 1: bless the ordinary working people. They're out today, too. Please
- 1:39Speaker 1: return them to their families tonight as well, Lord. We
- 1:42Speaker 1: ask you to watch over our country. Dear Lord, we
- 1:44Speaker 1: need it. Unite us in purpose, calm our fears, and
- 1:48Speaker 1: remind us that our ultimate hope is found in you alone.
- 1:51Speaker 1: May your peace rule in our hearts, your truth guide
- 1:54Speaker 1: our nation, and your hand of protection rest upon the
- 1:57Speaker 1: United States of America. In Jesus' name we pray.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Amen.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Thank you, everybody. Thank you for being here this morning.
- 2:05Speaker 1: And I put it this way. I don't know where
- 2:08Speaker 1: to begin, but something's really been troubling me lately. And
- 2:13Speaker 1: I'm going to do what our esteemed host does and
- 2:16Speaker 1: use you as my sounding board or my sanity. And
- 2:21Speaker 1: I was driving. I'm firmly convinced there is not a
- 2:26Speaker 1: world before 5 a.m. in Pomfret, Connecticut. It does not exist.
- 2:29Speaker 1: It just ain't there. It just is bleak, whatever in
- 2:31Speaker 1: the heck it is. But it's just so cool to
- 2:34Speaker 1: be out there, you know, looking at the stars and
- 2:36Speaker 1: the moon. It's dark and thinking, you know, you're one
- 2:39Speaker 1: man with the universe. Until some idiot tries to pass
- 2:42Speaker 1: you on a double line speeding into, you know, cars
- 2:45Speaker 1: coming up the other way. Listen, I could spend the
- 2:47Speaker 1: whole show on that. But today's analogy. And I want
- 2:51Speaker 1: you to think about this. I want you to meditate.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Politics is, to truth and freedom, what organized religion is
- 2:57Speaker 1: to man's relationship with God. Did you get that? I'll
- 3:00Speaker 1: say it again. Politics is, to truth and freedom, what
- 3:03Speaker 1: organized religion is to man's relationship to God. It's so true.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Everything that we have in life, it's there for us,
- 3:13Speaker 1: but somehow people manage to screw it up. And as
- 3:16Speaker 1: I was making my notes last night, I was saying
- 3:20Speaker 1: to myself, you know, who thinks for you, D'Angelo, listener, friend?
- 3:27Speaker 1: What's the truth? What's really happening? And is what is
- 3:31Speaker 1: really happening what, you know, what they want to tell
- 3:35Speaker 1: you what's happening? And these people who are telling you
- 3:38Speaker 1: what's important and what's to believe, are they telling you
- 3:42Speaker 1: the truth or not? You know, I mean, because As
- 3:45Speaker 1: far as I am concerned, like I was telling somebody
- 3:48Speaker 1: last night, I think it was somebody in our discussion group,
- 3:51Speaker 1: you know, we have a very nice Facebook page, which
- 3:55Speaker 1: our Peter Familius posts every morning. Put posts there. Put information.
- 4:00Speaker 1: You know, I read it on the breaks. You know,
- 4:03Speaker 1: we're keeping the seat warm. We're doing the best we can.
- 4:06Speaker 1: I think we're doing a pretty darn good job, you know,
- 4:08Speaker 1: all of us here collectively, with the grace of God.
- 4:11Speaker 1: But Something, three things have bothered me because I was
- 4:17Speaker 1: saying to somebody last week, I used to be a Catholic.
- 4:20Speaker 4: I'm not.
- 4:21Speaker 1: I mean, I'm a Christian. I used to be a Republican.
- 4:24Speaker 3: I'm not.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I'm a conservative because I didn't want institutions thinking for
- 4:30Speaker 1: me what I was supposed to believe. And I don't
- 4:33Speaker 1: care if you're a socialist. I don't care if you're like,
- 4:36Speaker 1: you know, If you're listening in Texas that you think
- 4:40Speaker 1: James Tallarico is the greatest thing since John F. Kennedy,
- 4:44Speaker 1: I don't want to tell you what to think. I
- 4:47Speaker 1: want to convince you that you shouldn't be thinking that
- 4:51Speaker 1: James Tallarico is the greatest thing since John F. Kennedy. Or,
- 4:54Speaker 1: you know, pick any idiot politician in Connecticut, wherever you
- 4:58Speaker 1: happen to be, Kathy Hochul in New York. But I
- 5:02Speaker 1: saw three things last week or ran across three things
- 5:05Speaker 1: that really troubled me. First one, this would have been
- 5:09Speaker 1: September 10th. The attorney general of the state of Connecticut,
- 5:15Speaker 1: a man by the name of William Tong, I qualify
- 5:18Speaker 1: that because not everybody who's here on this particular broadcast
- 5:21Speaker 1: is from Connecticut, is at a Democrat rally in Hartford, Connecticut.
- 5:27Speaker 1: And in this Democrat rally, he goes off on a tirade.
- 5:33Speaker 1: And it was probably one of the most disgusting things
- 5:37Speaker 1: I have ever seen. And believe me, politics in Connecticut
- 5:41Speaker 1: could get really low. Democrat politics in Connecticut could get
- 5:45Speaker 1: even lower than that. In a picture of signs saying,
- 5:50Speaker 1: one union, one family, one fight. He's with other notable Democrats.
- 5:56Speaker 1: And he started to go off on MAGA. And he said,
- 6:01Speaker 1: If you are a mega Republican, you are not qualified
- 6:05Speaker 1: to serve in Connecticut. Now, if you haven't seen this,
- 6:09Speaker 1: I did put a post. I did a snippet. I
- 6:12Speaker 1: did a 10 with Tony snippet of that yesterday. And
- 6:16Speaker 1: you can follow it on the show page and also
- 6:18Speaker 1: follow it on the 30 with Tony page. And he
- 6:22Speaker 1: started with this whole witness test of what a. Connecticut
- 6:27Speaker 1: Republican is supposed to believe. Now, this, of course, let
- 6:31Speaker 1: your mind run wild there. Does one party dictate to another?
- 6:35Speaker 1: Are we not these are we these horrible urchins that
- 6:39Speaker 1: if we say, gee, I like what Trump's doing, you know,
- 6:42Speaker 1: five people want to kill us. I mean, listen, 10,000
- 6:45Speaker 1: things can run through your mind. But it's probably been about,
- 6:50Speaker 1: I don't know, what, 128 hours. I don't see a
- 6:54Speaker 1: Republican pushback with that. I see a couple of comments
- 6:58Speaker 1: here and there. But the fact is, who is this
- 7:03Speaker 1: guy telling me what to think, how to act, what
- 7:08Speaker 1: to believe? Who is a political party to tell me
- 7:13Speaker 1: what is important considering all the mess-ups, the lies, the
- 7:18Speaker 1: screw-ups going back decades? And you want me to believe
- 7:22Speaker 1: you now, okay? This is my problem. And people were
- 7:26Speaker 1: saying to me yesterday, you know, he's an idiot, you know,
- 7:29Speaker 1: ignore it. It's like, look, I'm not going to ignore it.
- 7:34Speaker 1: The may ignore it. The political buddies may ignore it.
- 7:39Speaker 1: But D'Angelo is not going to ignore that. That is
- 7:42Speaker 1: an insult to every single person in the state of Connecticut.
- 7:46Speaker 1: I'm sorry. I don't mean to be yelling. But it's
- 7:49Speaker 1: just don't tell me what to think. And here's the thing.
- 7:52Speaker 1: What is MAGA?
- 7:53Speaker 5: MAGA.
- 7:53Speaker 1: The answer of the day, who cares? I'm not dealing
- 7:56Speaker 1: with MAGA. Yeah, I believe in American principles. I believe
- 7:59Speaker 1: in freedom. I believe in free enterprise. I believe in
- 8:01Speaker 1: limited government. I believe in throttling the administrative state and
- 8:05Speaker 1: starting over. That's my belief. But let me believe as
- 8:11Speaker 1: I believe. I don't want to tell you what to believe.
- 8:14Speaker 1: I don't want to be dictated to you. You know,
- 8:17Speaker 1: what William Tong did, he said to 40% of the
- 8:20Speaker 1: people in the state that voted for Donald Trump, okay?
- 8:24Speaker 1: I didn't make those people vote for Donald Trump. They
- 8:26Speaker 1: voted for Donald Trump. I mean, you want to send
- 8:28Speaker 1: them all to a mental institution?
- 8:30Speaker 6: Go ahead.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Go ahead. But this is like, stop telling me what
- 8:35Speaker 1: to believe. Did I say that slowly enough? Stop telling
- 8:39Speaker 1: me what to believe. I will believe for myself.
- 8:44Speaker 7: Okay.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Another thing drove me absolutely crazy. Same day, September 10th, 2026. Um,
- 8:54Speaker 1: There was a Republican press conference, and the Republicans were
- 8:58Speaker 1: in Hartford, and they were recounting all of the, shall
- 9:03Speaker 1: I say, the litany of the Lamont corruption. Now, the
- 9:06Speaker 1: funny thing is, if you go back, I don't know,
- 9:10Speaker 1: whenever Ned Lamont first ran for office, no one, you
- 9:14Speaker 1: might have thought a lot of things. No one ever
- 9:18Speaker 1: thought we would see the level of what we have
- 9:21Speaker 1: seen over the years with just the myriad corruption. And
- 9:26Speaker 1: the Republicans were reciting a number of the things not
- 9:29Speaker 1: invalid at all. Ah, Constantinus Diamantis, Doug McCrory, Miguel Cardona
- 9:37Speaker 1: getting the $ 250, 000 handshake, might have had a bad day
- 9:40Speaker 1: at the track, had a fight with his wife or something. Hey, Miguel,
- 9:43Speaker 1: this is a little cash for you. Take it easy
- 9:45Speaker 1: the next time. But it's like, and one of my
- 9:48Speaker 1: lady friends last night, thank God I got really good friends.
- 9:52Speaker 1: And I'm I'm the sort of guy that doesn't search
- 9:55Speaker 1: for friendship. People find me and I'm able to help
- 9:58Speaker 1: them and they're able. to help me. And there was
- 10:03Speaker 1: a Republican thread on Twitter about, we got to audit
- 10:07Speaker 1: every agency. Well, we got this group called the Auditors
- 10:10Speaker 1: of Public Accounts. I mean, They do fine work. Sometimes
- 10:13Speaker 1: they miss it. You know, they're human. But they do
- 10:16Speaker 1: very good recommendations. But basically what they do is they
- 10:18Speaker 1: make recommendations, and whoever they're auditing usually has some pontificating
- 10:23Speaker 1: statements saying, oh, I'm sorry, oh, you're wrong, whatever. I mean,
- 10:26Speaker 1: they have no teeth, frankly. That's the sad thing. It
- 10:29Speaker 1: is not at all the quality.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Of the work.
- 10:32Speaker 1: And it's like my very good lady friend was saying,
- 10:37Speaker 1: where have you guys been on the UConn Foundation? How
- 10:41Speaker 1: did $ 90 million go off to some Cayman Island thing?
- 10:44Speaker 1: It's in the damn tax return. I'm not telling you
- 10:47Speaker 1: any stories, frankly. It's there. You just have to bother
- 10:50Speaker 1: to look. And many people were saying at this press conference, hey,
- 10:54Speaker 1: Ryan Fazio, what about SEMA 4? You think we're going
- 10:58Speaker 1: to forget about SEMA 4? Do you think we're going
- 11:02Speaker 1: to forget about a $ 66 million IPO payday? I mean,
- 11:07Speaker 1: I'm not going to forget about that. I mean, it
- 11:10Speaker 1: makes me a little bit insulting to what little intelligence
- 11:14Speaker 1: I may have left that you want me to forget about.
- 11:17Speaker 1: I'm not going to. I'm not going to. And guess what?
- 11:21Speaker 1: Be you William Tong, be you Ryan Fazio, be you
- 11:25Speaker 1: Bugs Bunny, you are not going to tell me what
- 11:27Speaker 1: to believe. I'm sorry. You're going to try like hell,
- 11:31Speaker 1: and I'm just going to keep telling you you can't
- 11:33Speaker 1: do it, frankly. And this is the thing I want
- 11:36Speaker 1: you to think about today. I want you to think
- 11:39Speaker 1: about this. What people are telling you. And then you
- 11:43Speaker 1: have to ask yourself, why are they telling me that?
- 11:47Speaker 1: Are they sincere? Do they have a motivation in telling
- 11:50Speaker 1: me that? Or do they want me to believe a
- 11:52Speaker 1: certain narrative? You know, am I some kid in the
- 11:55Speaker 1: backseat wondering what we're going to stop at McDonald's on
- 11:58Speaker 1: the road trip? And my father saying, you know, that's OK.
- 12:01Speaker 1: We'll go to the restaurant when we get to the hotel.
- 12:04Speaker 1: I am tired of being dictated to. Last thing. Oh,
- 12:08Speaker 1: let me just mention this. There is a case that
- 12:11Speaker 1: came out last week. It's a tax case. And if
- 12:14Speaker 1: you have absolutely nothing to do, you can look at it.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Center for Taxpayer Rights versus the IRS was in the D.C. Circuit.
- 12:22Speaker 1: And the nature of the case was a nonprofit helping people,
- 12:31Speaker 1: legal or illegal, comply with their tax obligations. They received
- 12:35Speaker 1: a demand from ICE. On certain individuals, they handed over
- 12:40Speaker 1: information and went all the way to the district court
- 12:44Speaker 1: in D.C. The district court in D.C. says, listen, you're
- 12:47Speaker 1: doing God's work. That's great. That's fine. But information is sacrosanct.
- 12:54Speaker 1: It does not go to somebody asking even if they're
- 12:57Speaker 1: the law. And this is the whole thing. Semaphore, right?
- 13:00Speaker 1: You want me to forget? I ain't going to forget.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Where did that COVID information go? Where did the genetic
- 13:06Speaker 1: information go with the testing of kids? You know, one
- 13:09Speaker 1: of our esteemed callers to this show, Jan from East Lime, saying,
- 13:12Speaker 1: you know, the Lamonts have kids' DNA. Well, I mean,
- 13:16Speaker 1: it's not a stretch to say that, frankly. And I mean,
- 13:20Speaker 1: it's like, I've got to sit there and I've got
- 13:22Speaker 1: to listen to that. And it's like, I'm not going to.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Last thing I'm going to say really quickly. was talking
- 13:29Speaker 1: to some prominent Republican people last week telling me, oh,
- 13:32Speaker 1: immigration's not a front burner issue. Well, guess what? You
- 13:35Speaker 1: now have two senators in Ohio, Usted and Marino, who
- 13:39Speaker 1: have written letters to Ned Lamont. You didn't hear about
- 13:43Speaker 1: the Usted letter. I posted that on Saturday night. State-run
- 13:46Speaker 1: media is not going to tell you about that. And
- 13:49Speaker 1: it's the thing of, hey, you better start talking about
- 13:53Speaker 1: these motor voter things and these 60-something or 90,000 or
- 13:56Speaker 1: whatever people who may be voting in our elections. And
- 14:00Speaker 1: from what I understand, the ice surge against questionable voting
- 14:05Speaker 1: is starting today. So a lot happening. Tony D'Angelo here, 94.9
- 14:09Speaker 1: News and Stimulating Talk. We are just getting started. If
- 14:15Speaker 1: you're not upset now, you're going to be more upset
- 14:18Speaker 1: as the days to come. You're going to have a
- 14:19Speaker 1: good time. We'll be right back right after this. Well.
- 14:27Speaker 7: Well.
- 14:27Speaker 5: Well.
- 14:55Speaker 2: On 94.9 News Now.

- 16:30Speaker 12: Talking about artificial intelligence at a conference in Los Angeles,
- 16:33Speaker 12: the president wants to calm the uproar over AI safety concerns.
- 16:36Speaker 13: It's bigger than the internet and the AI, you know,
- 16:39Speaker 13: much more so. And they're just playing right into the
- 16:43Speaker 13: hands of a lot of people that don't want to.
- 16:46Speaker 7: See it happen.
- 16:46Speaker 13: And that could be political people.
- 16:48Speaker 14: It could also be China.
- 16:50Speaker 15: And we're not going to let that happen.
- 16:52Speaker 13: It's a hoax.
- 16:54Speaker 12: And from the All In podcast, could the Federal Reserve
- 16:55Speaker 12: increase the short-term interest rate for the first time in

- 17:00Speaker 16: Wall Street traders are considering a hike likely after the

- 22:32Speaker 26: killed 24-year-old Jacob Woodmancy and seriously injured his passenger, 24-year-old
- 22:38Speaker 26: Ashley Hall. Police believe Woodmancy lost control, crossed the center line,
- 22:43Speaker 26: and crashed near Tatum Street.
- 22:45Speaker 6: Hall remains in serious but stable condition.
- 22:48Speaker 26: Norwich Public Utilities will phase in rate increases beginning November 1st,
- 22:53Speaker 26: adding about $ 20 to the average monthly bill by 2028.
- 22:56Speaker 1: The additional revenue?
- 22:58Speaker 26: Will fund infrastructure upgrades and rising equipment costs. The Niantic

- 23:06Speaker 26: for redecking. The Niantic Bay Boardwalk and vehicle access to
- 23:11Speaker 26: Memorial Park will remain open. An East Hampton firefighter suffered
- 23:15Speaker 26: minor injuries after an erratic driver entered a closed crash
- 23:19Speaker 26: scene on Route 66 Sunday. The driver fled towards Portland
- 23:24Speaker 26: and police are investigating. The Rhode Island Board of Elections
- 23:28Speaker 26: rejected a full recount in the Republican gubernatorial primary but
- 23:32Speaker 26: approved a review of voting machine data. Aaron Gukian led
- 23:37Speaker 26: Elaine Polino by 259 votes.
- 23:40Speaker 6: In the latest tally with the review scheduled today.
- 23:43Speaker 26: I'm Sean Murphy. When news breaks, we break in.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Probably my favorite part of the show is announcing the
- 24:00Speaker 1: nonprofits because and people are emailing me. OK, Tony.
- 24:05Speaker 6: OK.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm OK. I mean, I, you know, believe it
- 24:09Speaker 1: or not, I have very low blood pressure people.
- 24:12Speaker 2: How is that possible? Oh, it is.
- 24:14Speaker 1: I don't know. But anyway, the nonprofit announcements. Remember, go
- 24:18Speaker 1: out and help somebody else and have some fun, too.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Because it's not all politics. It's not all, you know,
- 24:24Speaker 1: the world's going to end. It's not that the AI
- 24:27Speaker 1: robots are going to come and kill us and take
- 24:29Speaker 1: us over. All I know is whenever I saw one
- 24:32Speaker 1: of those movies, I was able to walk out of
- 24:34Speaker 1: the movie theater. Anyway, let's get to the business. Third
- 24:37Speaker 1: annual Red, White, and Blue Party, Monday, September 21st, 2026,

- 25:35Speaker 1: You can do that at FortressTrustAOL.com or through Twitter. Kiwanis
- 25:41Speaker 1: Club in New London, our pal Marty Olson. The annual

- 25:48Speaker 1: 1130 a.m. registration. One o'clock's a shotgun start. $ 175 per player.
- 25:55Speaker 1: This is for scholarships. You have a good time. $ 10, 000
- 25:59Speaker 1: prize in the ninth hole. Special hole-in-one. Actually, that would
- 26:04Speaker 1: be a prize. For additional information, contact Ted Nelson, 860-235-0770.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Ted Nelson, 860-235-0770. September 19th, Jim Spinato, Hypnosis Live, proceeds
- 26:10Speaker 1: to benefit Wings of Freedom Animal Rescue, and that is
- 26:14Speaker 1: at the Sprague Rod and Gun Club. Saturday, September 19th,
- 26:18Speaker 1: showtime is 7 p.m. $ 30, you can have some fun,
- 26:34Speaker 1: and some poor little animal will have food because of
- 26:37Speaker 1: the fact that you're there.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Believe me.
- 26:41Speaker 1: In a house full of animals, I wonder what I'm doing,
- 26:43Speaker 1: but they're only here because of us, and they give
- 26:46Speaker 1: us a short time, but they give us a lot
- 26:48Speaker 1: of love and comfort. And the Veterans Equine Therapeutic Services
- 26:53Speaker 1: Golf Classics, September 28th, 2026, the Lake of Isles Country Club,
- 26:59Speaker 1: and starts at 8 a.m. You're registered. 10 o'clock a.m.
- 27:02Speaker 1: is shotgun start. Valenti Auto, $ 10, 000 hole-in-one. A Rolex Submariner
- 27:08Speaker 1: for a hole-in-one. I always wanted a Rolex. I don't
- 27:11Speaker 1: even golf. Lunch on course, smokehouse, barbecue, longest drive competition.
- 27:17Speaker 1: And you take a shot to win a, actually, let's see,
- 27:24Speaker 1: a $ 10, 000 or a Rolex Submariner for hitting a hole-in-one.
- 27:29Speaker 1: To review today's program. We'll have Bob Lazeri at 6.50.
- 27:33Speaker 1: I don't know what Bob is going to bring. I
- 27:35Speaker 1: think we talked for 30 seconds yesterday. 7 o'clock is
- 27:38Speaker 1: going to be the power hour. Actually, Bob Swick will
- 27:42Speaker 1: be in. I think we could probably use three hours
- 27:45Speaker 1: on that, but Bob and I were chatting yesterday. 8 o'clock,
- 27:50Speaker 1: all rise for the judge, John Nazero. He's just recently
- 27:54Speaker 1: given me a list of topics. We will go down.
- 27:56Speaker 1: I'm sure it'll be an interesting discussion. Now, at 8.35...
- 28:01Speaker 1: We are supposed to have a call from Pastor James
- 28:03Speaker 1: David Manning. If you follow 30 with Tony and if
- 28:07Speaker 1: you've been following Facebook and Twitter and you followed the
- 28:11Speaker 1: March Against Mondami on September 11th in New York City, yes,
- 28:15Speaker 1: it is that Pastor James Manning. And speaking with his
- 28:19Speaker 1: wife yesterday and hoping all goes well, we get a
- 28:22Speaker 1: chance to speak with the pastor. And I'm sure it'll
- 28:27Speaker 1: be an interesting discussion.
- 28:28Speaker 14: So.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Again, it's Tony D'Angelo in for Lee Elsie. This is
- 28:32Speaker 1: the Lee Elsie Show. And someone had messaged me on
- 28:35Speaker 1: the break. And they said, that voice of that comedian
- 28:39Speaker 1: telling the joke as to, you know, how to meet
- 28:42Speaker 1: girls of the opposite sex sounds familiar. I said, well,
- 28:45Speaker 1: if you've ever watched Frosty the Snowman during Christmas, I
- 28:49Speaker 1: think everybody's seen it. That's the voice of Frosty. And
- 28:53Speaker 1: the comedian was Jackie Vernon. And Jackie Vernon was the
- 28:57Speaker 1: master of the deadpan. Very interesting man. Many comics, I
- 29:01Speaker 1: think I've had this discussion along the way, are really
- 29:04Speaker 1: not funny people. And they're really kind of nasty. I
- 29:09Speaker 1: remember Jimmy Harris, James B. Harris, a noted Hollywood director,
- 29:15Speaker 1: wonderful guy. I believe he's still with us. He's well
- 29:18Speaker 1: into his 90s. He was telling me the story about
- 29:21Speaker 1: Jerry Lewis being the nastiest guy in Hollywood. Luke Costello
- 29:25Speaker 1: was no charmer either. And I don't understand that dichotomy,
- 29:30Speaker 1: but Jackie Vernon apparently was part of that same genre.
- 29:34Speaker 1: But I don't care. I put on those tapes. I
- 29:37Speaker 1: laugh like anything. If you have a problem with that.
- 29:40Speaker 1: you know, you have to come to my house and
- 29:42Speaker 1: stop me, frankly. And it's you have to laugh every
- 29:48Speaker 1: once in a while. And I try some days very
- 29:51Speaker 1: hard was chatting with a friend recently as far as
- 29:53Speaker 1: the state of national events. And in many ways, it's
- 29:57Speaker 1: the best of times. In many ways, it's the worst
- 29:59Speaker 1: of times. And I know you're going to sit and
- 30:01Speaker 1: I'm reading the posts on Facebook and I'm chatting with
- 30:04Speaker 1: people saying my costs are high, my food is high,
- 30:09Speaker 1: my gas is high. And you know something? I agree
- 30:14Speaker 1: with you. And I agree that we are in a
- 30:16Speaker 1: place right now where something needs to happen good and
- 30:21Speaker 1: better for the United States of America. I do not
- 30:25Speaker 1: want to see a situation where one or two houses...
- 30:30Speaker 1: of the Congress of the United States turned Democrat. We
- 30:35Speaker 1: will see nothing but impeachments a week. We will see
- 30:38Speaker 1: nothing but money withheld for certain things from appropriations. You know,
- 30:44Speaker 1: our lovely belle of the ball in Connecticut, Rosa DeLauro,
- 30:47Speaker 1: people say, you know, how is Rosa still there? Look
- 30:50Speaker 1: at her. She's a national embarrassment. It's the money, honey.
- 30:53Speaker 1: She gets her hands on the money. She hangs out
- 30:56Speaker 1: with a couple of other old bats named Nancy and Debbie.
- 30:59Speaker 1: And that's the way it is. So it's the kind
- 31:02Speaker 1: of thing where I wish I wish I say this
- 31:05Speaker 1: to everybody. I wish I could give you a better world.
- 31:08Speaker 1: I wish I could make it perfect. And yes, the
- 31:11Speaker 1: Trump administration has made mistakes and it needs to correct
- 31:15Speaker 1: some of the mistakes it did. And time is growing short.
- 31:18Speaker 1: But whatever you do, number one, go vote. Not going
- 31:23Speaker 1: to tell you how to vote. I spent the first
- 31:25Speaker 1: half hour telling you I wasn't going to tell you
- 31:27Speaker 1: how to think. But Think of the integrity of the
- 31:30Speaker 1: United States of America. Think of your freedom. Think of
- 31:34Speaker 1: the right to own a gun, the right to speak freely,
- 31:39Speaker 1: and to think there are people who want to buffalo
- 31:43Speaker 1: you and take that away from you. And honestly, truthfully,
- 31:48Speaker 1: I would much rather have a chance of two years
- 31:51Speaker 1: of getting things right rather than two years headed directly wrong.
- 31:56Speaker 1: Do you want to see President Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez? Yeah, laugh
- 32:00Speaker 1: at me all you want. That's what they're thinking. Do
- 32:03Speaker 1: you want to see a 15-member Supreme Court? Do you
- 32:07Speaker 1: want to see Congress letting in Guam, the Virgin Islands,
- 32:12Speaker 1: the Marianas, and everybody else? Do you want to see
- 32:17Speaker 1: that happen? Frankly, I don't. So I wish I could
- 32:20Speaker 1: hand you a better world. Unfortunately, I can't hand you
- 32:23Speaker 1: a perfect one, but It's only going to get better
- 32:25Speaker 1: if you work it. Anyway, Tony D'Angelo, 94.9, Lee Elsie Show,
- 32:29Speaker 1: news and stimulating talk. We are coming back talking sports.
- 32:33Speaker 1: No idea what we're going to talk about. Bob Lazieri
- 32:35Speaker 1: coming right back. We'll be right back.
- 32:53Speaker 3: Traffic Alert on 94.9 News Now.
- 32:57Speaker 9: In Eastline, the exit 74 on-ramp.
- 33:00Speaker 10: From Route 161 to I-95 northbound is closed. Construction work
- 33:06Speaker 10: in Colchester, Route 2 westbound, exit 26 to exit 23.
- 33:13Speaker 10: Stop-and-go traffic in Waterford, I-95 northbound. Construction work continues on
- 33:19Speaker 10: the Gold Star Bridge. Route 12 moving slower southbound in Groton.
- 33:24Speaker 10: Route 32 and I-395 are both delay-free. I'm Eddie Schaefer,
- 33:29Speaker 10: Time Saver Traffic.
- 33:31Speaker 7: Whaling City Ford needs 50 pre-owned vehicles.
- 33:34Speaker 5: And yours could be one of them.
- 33:36Speaker 7: Right now, we're actively buying cars, trucks, and SUVs of
- 33:39Speaker 7: all makes and models.
- 33:40Speaker 5: Paid off?
- 33:41Speaker 7: Still financed?
- 33:42Speaker 1: No problem.
- 33:43Speaker 7: Bring your vehicle to Whaling City Ford for a fast,
- 33:46Speaker 7: no-obligation appraisal and an aggressive purchase offer. Sell it to
- 33:50Speaker 7: us outright, trade it towards a new Ford, or trade
- 33:53Speaker 7: into another pre-owned vehicle. And remember, you do not have
- 33:56Speaker 7: to buy from us for us to buy from you.
- 33:58Speaker 7: We need 50 vehicles from customers like you this month.
- 34:02Speaker 7: Will yours be one of them? And don't forget, Whaling
- 34:04Speaker 7: City Service has convenient pick-up and drop-off options for all
- 34:08Speaker 7: of our guests.
- 34:08Speaker 9: That's right.
- 34:09Speaker 7: Need an oil change? Or how about new tires? Or
- 34:12Speaker 7: how about just a 30,000-mile service?
- 34:14Speaker 5: Whaling City Ford will pick your vehicle. We are!
- 34:31Speaker 7: Have we met yet?

- 35:03Speaker 27: Hello, this is Richard Sosimo from Pasta Vida, the place
- 35:07Speaker 27: to go for gourmet to go.
- 35:08Speaker 28: Chef Lou and I started Pasta Vida more than 30
- 35:11Speaker 28: years ago as a wholesale pasta factory and have become
- 35:14Speaker 28: Connecticut's leading destination for gourmet prepared meals. Delicious selections are

- 35:29Speaker 28: There's no place like Pasta Vida.
- 35:34Speaker 3: He's forgotten more about sports than you will ever know.
- 35:38Speaker 3: Host of Thursday Night Tailgate on Armed Forces Radio and
- 35:41Speaker 3: a view from the Lone Red Sea.
- 35:44Speaker 2: Here he is, Bob Lazari.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Well, it's always fun whenever Bob comes in to talk
- 35:51Speaker 1: about sports on a Tuesday because it reminds me that
- 35:56Speaker 1: there is a candy shop in the world of life.
- 35:58Speaker 1: And even though there's been a lot of polluted candy
- 36:01Speaker 1: over the years, it's my pal Bob Lazari. How you doing, pal? Okay, thanks.
- 36:07Speaker 1: You want to start with the birthdays?
- 36:08Speaker 29: Yeah, we can do some trip down memory lane here, Tony.
- 36:12Speaker 29: First of all, on this day in 1938, Tony, and folks,
- 36:15Speaker 29: Tony and I were not at this game, but Pirate outfielders, Tony,
- 36:20Speaker 29: the Wainer brothers, Lloyd Wainer and Paul Wainer, were the
- 36:23Speaker 29: first and only brothers to ever hit back-to-back home runs, Tony.
- 36:27Speaker 29: That is never happening. The odds of that happening are
- 36:30Speaker 29: incredible when you think about it. And when you think
- 36:33Speaker 29: about odds, Tony, on this day in 1963, the Alou brothers, Felipe, Matty,
- 36:41Speaker 29: and Jesus, right? Tony, they appeared in the Giants outfield
- 36:44Speaker 29: for one inning against the Pirates at Forbes Field. Can
- 36:47Speaker 29: you imagine the odds of that happening?
- 36:51Speaker 1: You know, I remember that. I really do remember that.
- 36:54Speaker 1: It's really incredible. Was Jesus the Alou brother that would
- 37:01Speaker 1: come to bat and have all the gyrations and he'd
- 37:04Speaker 1: be tugging at his shirt and stretching his neck?
- 37:06Speaker 30: Oh, yeah.
- 37:07Speaker 29: Remember that year with, like, Houston, he would pinch hit and,
- 37:12Speaker 29: you know, was an amazing pinch hitter, but actually would
- 37:15Speaker 29: lift that left leg when he was, like, you know,
- 37:19Speaker 29: when he was ready to hit and Kind of all
- 37:21Speaker 29: over the place, but, man, they all could play, right, Tony?
- 37:24Speaker 1: They all could play.
- 37:24Speaker 15: You remember Matty?
- 37:25Speaker 1: Fine player. I think he won a batting title. Yeah,
- 37:27Speaker 1: fine player.
- 37:27Speaker 29: Felipe obviously went on to manage and everything, so that
- 37:32Speaker 29: was some family when you think about it. And on
- 37:34Speaker 29: this day, Tony, I know you remember this. 1969, Steve
- 37:39Speaker 29: Carlton of the Cardinals struck out 19 Mets in a game. But, Tony,
- 37:45Speaker 29: he lost the game 4-3 because of two home runs
- 37:48Speaker 29: by Ron Swoboda. Now, you and I have talked to
- 37:53Speaker 29: Swoboda in the past, and, you know, funny guy, and
- 37:56Speaker 29: I'm sure he would even make light of it. And
- 37:58Speaker 29: I think after the game he said, I might have
- 38:00Speaker 29: hit two home runs, but that's the best pitching performance
- 38:02Speaker 29: I've ever seen, right? I mean, that was Carlton in
- 38:05Speaker 29: a nutshell, Tony. He had a couple games like that
- 38:08Speaker 29: in his career, but that's when he was with the Cardinals. Obviously,
- 38:11Speaker 29: he would go to the Phillies a few years later
- 38:13Speaker 29: and– That 72 season, and I think you and I agree,
- 38:18Speaker 29: when he was 27-10 for a team that won about
- 38:22Speaker 29: 55 games.
- 38:23Speaker 1: That was probably the best I've.
- 38:24Speaker 29: Ever seen, and we'll never see anything like that. But
- 38:28Speaker 29: that happened on this day in 1969. As far as birthdays, Tony,
- 38:32Speaker 29: you've got some football birthdays to mention today. First of all,
- 38:38Speaker 29: former guard Marshall Yonda. He made eight Pro Bowls, Tony,
- 38:41Speaker 29: with the Ravens. He will be a Hall of Famer
- 38:44Speaker 29: in a few years. He celebrates today. Otis Wilson, a
- 38:47Speaker 29: linebacker who played on the Chicago Bear teams with Walter Pagan.
- 38:51Speaker 29: He turned 69 years old today. Will Shields, a guard
- 38:56Speaker 29: for the Kansas City Chiefs who is in the Hall
- 38:58Speaker 29: of Fame. He celebrates a birthday today. Joe Morris, former
- 39:03Speaker 29: running back for the Giants. Tony, you remember he won
- 39:05Speaker 29: a Super Bowl with them. He turned 66 today. Dan Marino, Tony, 65,
- 39:10Speaker 29: believe it or not.
- 39:12Speaker 9: Unbelievable.
- 39:13Speaker 14: Seeing him play at Shea.
- 39:14Speaker 29: Stadium was incredible back in the day. One of the
- 39:16Speaker 29: coldest games I've ever seen. I think it was in
- 39:18Speaker 29: 83 or 84 I saw him play. He celebrates a birthday.
- 39:23Speaker 29: The late Leroy Irvin, who we had on Thursday night, tailgate.
- 39:26Speaker 29: Great cornerback, defensive back for the... Los Angeles Rams back
- 39:31Speaker 29: in the day. He celebrates a birthday today. David Deal,
- 39:34Speaker 29: former Super Bowl champion with the New York Giants. He
- 39:38Speaker 29: celebrates today, Tony. And born on this day, Tony, in 1940,
- 39:43Speaker 29: the great Merlin Olsen.
- 39:45Speaker 16: Ah.
- 39:46Speaker 29: He passed away, Tony, in 2010. As you remember, he
- 39:50Speaker 29: went on to be an incredible actor, right, Tony? I mean,
- 39:52Speaker 29: this is a guy, remember the fearsome foursome, right, but
- 39:56Speaker 29: was one of the most laid-back guys. When you saw
- 39:58Speaker 29: him act on TV, it must be an L.A. thing, Tony.
- 40:02Speaker 29: Remember Fred Dreyer and him? I mean, these guys were
- 40:05Speaker 29: incredibly talented off the field.
- 40:09Speaker 1: Merlin Olsen also had a big commercial career doing the–
- 40:14Speaker 1: FTD Flowers, and he was so gentlemanly, and it was like,
- 40:19Speaker 1: I remember my first wife, Jean, who passed on, she
- 40:23Speaker 1: absolutely loved him. And I said, do you realize he
- 40:26Speaker 1: was an all-pro football player? No, I just thought he
- 40:29Speaker 1: was this very nice gentleman.
- 40:30Speaker 14: He was fearsome, Tony.
- 40:31Speaker 29: Supposed to be fearsome anyway. As far as baseball birthdays, Tony,
- 40:37Speaker 29: born on this day in 1938. Gaylord Perry, Hall of Famer.
- 40:42Speaker 14: Now, Tony, you know, I was.
- 40:44Speaker 29: Looking at his stats this morning. I mean, this guy,
- 40:46Speaker 29: believe it or not, he pitched 22 seasons. He won
- 40:50Speaker 29: 314 games, Tony. His ERA was about three for his career.
- 40:53Speaker 29: Incredible pitcher, as we know, you know, was known for
- 40:56Speaker 29: loading up the ball, wrote the book Me and the Spinner.
- 40:59Speaker 1: I remember it was one of the first.
- 41:01Speaker 29: Baseball books I've ever read. But, you know, he was
- 41:04Speaker 29: a five-time 20-game winner, Tony. He won the Cy Young
- 41:07Speaker 29: in 1972 at Cleveland and amazingly won a Cy Young
- 41:11Speaker 29: in 78 at the age of 39 with the Padres.
- 41:15Speaker 29: And there was years in San Francisco, Tony, where he
- 41:17Speaker 29: was a 20-game winner where he probably could have won
- 41:20Speaker 29: more Cy Young awards. In fact, there was a couple
- 41:23Speaker 29: years in San Francisco where he was a 500 pitcher,
- 41:26Speaker 29: like 16, 15, 15, 17 years. His ERA was under
- 41:30Speaker 29: two and a half. I mean, this guy, he wasn't
- 41:33Speaker 29: getting much run support, you know, in the late 60s
- 41:36Speaker 29: with the Giants. I mean, it was Mays, McCovey, and
- 41:38Speaker 29: then whoever, right? But an amazing pitcher. And there was
- 41:43Speaker 29: one of his teammates who does celebrate a birthday today.
- 41:46Speaker 29: And you remember this guy, Tony, Frank Lindsey, L-I-N-Z-Y.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Frank Lindsey was a teammate of Taylor.
- 41:53Speaker 29: Perry with the Giants. And what people don't realize, Lindsey...
- 41:57Speaker 29: In the late 60s, Tony, he had a year, well,
- 42:01Speaker 29: let's take, for example, 1967. He pitched all the relief,
- 42:05Speaker 29: had an ERA of 1.5 in 100 innings. He followed
- 42:09Speaker 29: that up the next year with an ERA of 2.0
- 42:13Speaker 29: in 100 innings. And then the following year, 69, Tony,
- 42:16Speaker 29: he won 14 games in relief for the Giants. I mean,
- 42:20Speaker 29: this guy was an underrated relief pitcher because he played
- 42:23Speaker 29: with all those Hall of Famers. But Frank Lindsay does
- 42:26Speaker 29: celebrate a birthday.
- 42:28Speaker 1: I hope he's doing well. I mean, he was actually
- 42:31Speaker 1: one of those pitchers that used to wear glasses like
- 42:34Speaker 1: him and Bob Veal. It's like you're watching the game
- 42:37Speaker 1: of the week, and the kids are like, who's Bob Veal?
- 42:40Speaker 1: I had Veal last night for dinner. But Bob Veal
- 42:44Speaker 1: would have those glasses that would fog up, and he
- 42:48Speaker 1: would throw hard. And Joe Garagio on the Game of
- 42:51Speaker 1: the Week would always say, you know, the players tell
- 42:54Speaker 1: me that when his glasses fog up in the fifth inning,
- 42:56Speaker 1: you better be on your toes.
- 42:59Speaker 29: Ryan Dern, right?
- 43:01Speaker 7: Yeah, exactly.
- 43:01Speaker 29: There's a few like that over the years. And for
- 43:03Speaker 29: some reason, they all flew hard. So that would instill
- 43:06Speaker 29: fear into batters.
- 43:08Speaker 1: It's really something. I'm happy we saw it. I'm happy
- 43:11Speaker 1: we saw those players play. You know, and I'm grateful
- 43:15Speaker 1: whenever I can go to my Roku and turn on
- 43:17Speaker 1: YouTube and Whatever remnants of an old game that are there,
- 43:20Speaker 1: I mean, it's precious to me.
- 43:23Speaker 17: It is.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Anyway, we've got a couple of minutes. I wanted to
- 43:26Speaker 1: get your thoughts on this. You're much more into this
- 43:31Speaker 1: these days than I am, but there was a game.
- 43:34Speaker 1: I was reading this. Indiana and Howard. Indiana football game.
- 43:39Speaker 1: Beat Howard 55 to nothing. And I guess this is
- 43:42Speaker 1: the thing where the poor football team plays the dominant
- 43:47Speaker 1: football team and everybody cheers and these kids take a
- 43:50Speaker 1: horrible beating because it's a big gate and the school's loving.
- 43:53Speaker 1: I think these kids are going to be traumatized for life,
- 43:56Speaker 1: but that's just me. But they stopped the game in
- 43:59Speaker 1: the fourth quarter because of the fact that the team
- 44:05Speaker 1: getting beat isn't going to do anything. And the bookies
- 44:09Speaker 1: are upset. Like, you know, you had to beat the spread.
- 44:13Speaker 1: And I'm thinking, Bob, Al DeRogatis. What's an Al DeRogatis? Well,
- 44:16Speaker 1: they threw him off the air right in the 60s
- 44:18Speaker 1: because he was talking about, well, if they go and
- 44:21Speaker 1: kick a field goal, they'll beat the spread.
- 44:22Speaker 2: How terrible!
- 44:23Speaker 14: Gambling!
- 44:24Speaker 1: What the hell is this? It's just, what happened? You
- 44:26Speaker 1: tell us.
- 44:27Speaker 29: No, Tony, that Indiana was a, this is crazy to
- 44:30Speaker 29: begin with, a 56 and a half point favorite. And,
- 44:34Speaker 29: you know, then the over-under, I think, was 65-and-a-half. So,
- 44:39Speaker 29: I mean, even with their third stringers, Indiana probably would
- 44:42Speaker 29: have added to that score. So, you know, the flags
- 44:45Speaker 29: go up. You wonder, you know, where the money was
- 44:48Speaker 29: on either team. Or whether, obviously, it looked like it
- 44:51Speaker 29: might have been on Indiana. So, if they don't do
- 44:54Speaker 29: this in college, they don't stop games. This isn't high school.
- 44:57Speaker 25: You know.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 44:58Speaker 29: So, I don't know what was.
- 45:00Speaker 31: Going on, but.
- 45:02Speaker 29: That's the thing that when you bring in, that tells
- 45:04Speaker 29: you how many people are watching football and have no
- 45:07Speaker 29: interest in the game whatsoever.
- 45:09Speaker 1: I hear the music. Bob, where do we reach you?
- 45:11Speaker 29: Oh, go on next, Tony. We have interviews that you
- 45:13Speaker 29: and I did over the years, and there's a lot
- 45:15Speaker 29: of other stuff there.
- 45:16Speaker 9: Thanks.
- 45:16Speaker 1: Thanks so much. Thanks for calling. 94.9 News and Stimulating Talk,

- 45:57Speaker 33: Fox News. Polls opening just now in Delaware for the
- 46:01Speaker 33: final primaries seven weeks before the November elections.
- 46:04Speaker 32: Among the seats up is the U.S. Senate seat held
- 46:07Speaker 32: by Democrat Chris Coons. He seeks a third full term
- 46:10Speaker 32: and faces three Democratic challengers. One of them is a
- 46:13Speaker 32: former Republican, Eric Hansen, who ran and lost to Senator
- 46:17Speaker 32: Lisa Blunt Rochester in 2024. This year, Hansen will appear
- 46:22Speaker 32: on ballots as E-No-Trump Hansen.
- 46:25Speaker 2: That's Fox's Grinnell Scott.
- 46:26Speaker 33: Mail-in voting will not be restricted in November like President
- 46:29Speaker 33: Trump was trying to do. The Supreme Court has blocked
- 46:31Speaker 33: his order to get the Postal Service to implement ballot requirements.
- 46:34Speaker 33: No reaction yet from President Trump on that, but he
- 46:36Speaker 33: is continuing to call fears of AI going out of
- 46:39Speaker 33: control and threatening humanity a hoax, telling the All In podcast.
- 46:43Speaker 13: They're just playing right into the hands of a lot
- 46:45Speaker 13: of people that.
- 46:47Speaker 29: Don't want to see it happen. And that could be
- 46:49Speaker 29: political people.
- 46:50Speaker 14: It could also be China.
- 46:51Speaker 33: Some AI leaders have warned in recent days of the
- 46:53Speaker 33: risks of artificial intelligence if they don't slow.
- 46:56Speaker 2: It down and put up guardrails.
- 46:58Speaker 33: At the Senate, a Republican who's been absent for months returns.
- 47:01Speaker 33: Former Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
- 47:03Speaker 7: I wasn't sure how many of you would be here today.
- 47:07Speaker 7: But I'm glad to see you.
- 47:08Speaker 15: Time to get back to work.
- 47:10Speaker 5: Thanks.
- 47:13Speaker 33: He said that from a wheelchair. As McConnell returned to
- 47:15Speaker 33: cast a vote with his fellow Republicans approving a judicial nominee,
- 47:18Speaker 33: the senator's been recovering and rehabbing after a fall in June,
- 47:22Speaker 33: and then he was stricken with pneumonia. It's McConnell's last year.

- 47:31Speaker 14: And the Emmy goes to Matthew Reese.
- 47:34Speaker 33: You heard that twice on NBC last night. Reese is
- 47:37Speaker 33: the first to win lead actor Emmys for two shows
- 47:39Speaker 33: in the same year, The Beast and Me and Widow's Bay.
- 47:43Speaker 33: That show won a record 14 Emmys, including Best Comedy.

- 53:05Speaker 26: machine data. led Elaine Polino by 259 votes in the
- 53:11Speaker 26: latest tally with the review scheduled today. I'm Sean Murphy.
- 53:16Speaker 26: When news breaks, we break in.
- 53:18Speaker 1: 94.9 News and Stimulating Talk. This is the Lee Elsie Show.
- 53:24Speaker 1: I am Tony D'Angelo, pleased to be in for this.
- 53:28Speaker 1: September 15th, 2026 edition. And this is a segment that's
- 53:34Speaker 1: really caught fire, frankly, and I could not be doing
- 53:38Speaker 1: it with a better person. And rather than a whole
- 53:41Speaker 1: lot of preliminaries, we're going to get right to it.
- 53:46Speaker 1: My friend, a man who finally is receiving the credit
- 53:50Speaker 1: for all the fine work he's done for decades, Professor
- 53:53Speaker 1: Bob Swick. How are you, pal?
- 53:55Speaker 14: I'm good, Tony. Thanks for having me on this morning.
- 53:58Speaker 1: And you are welcome. Thank you for being here. Any
- 54:00Speaker 1: way you want to lead off?
- 54:03Speaker 14: Taxes, taxes, and more taxes. I think Connecticut has a
- 54:08Speaker 14: taxation problem. I don't think I'm alone in stating that.
- 54:13Speaker 14: This past week, my blog was on taxation in Connecticut.
- 54:18Speaker 14: All the various taxes that state businesses pay, that individuals pay,
- 54:26Speaker 14: that visitors pay. that people who need licenses to have
- 54:31Speaker 14: their occupation be quote-unquote legal in the state of Connecticut pay.
- 54:38Speaker 14: And I received a lot of different comments on it.
- 54:42Speaker 14: And the one thing I have to... I just really
- 54:45Speaker 14: want to focus on one particular thing. I fully understand
- 54:52Speaker 14: taxation is essential for government to operate. That's a given.
- 54:58Speaker 14: I'm not questioning that. Most people do not question that.
- 55:03Speaker 14: But the question is, and continues to be, why does
- 55:08Speaker 14: Connecticut have so many taxes? And why is Connecticut doing
- 55:14Speaker 14: so poorly in business climate? Why is Connecticut doing so
- 55:20Speaker 14: poorly with all the social welfare problems that they have
- 55:24Speaker 14: in the state? Why is Connecticut.
- 55:26Speaker 37: Or.
- 55:27Speaker 14: Why does Connecticut have one of the highest debt-to-taxpayer ratios
- 55:33Speaker 14: in the country? Why is Connecticut one of the highest
- 55:35Speaker 14: taxed states in the country? A state as small as Connecticut,
- 55:40Speaker 14: with as few people as it has in its population,
- 55:44Speaker 14: where does this money go? And I will bluntly state,
- 55:51Speaker 14: Connecticut has spending problems. And Connecticut has a problem with
- 55:55Speaker 14: the amount of money it spends on governmental salaries, pensions, benefits,
- 56:03Speaker 14: no-bid contracts, and a lack of transparency as to where
- 56:09Speaker 14: money goes once it's given by the state, and if
- 56:13Speaker 14: it's ever repaid and why it's not repaid, so on
- 56:16Speaker 14: and so forth. So if you're going to continue to
- 56:19Speaker 14: tax to a point of no return... What are the consequences? Well,
- 56:25Speaker 14: we're seeing what the consequences have been in Connecticut for
- 56:27Speaker 14: the past basically 20 years. And if you really want
- 56:30Speaker 14: to go back, go back to when the income tax
- 56:32Speaker 14: was formed in 1991, look at the decline in the
- 56:36Speaker 14: state of Connecticut with all these taxes, all these new taxes,
- 56:41Speaker 14: all these additional taxes, all these surtaxes, all these licensed taxes,
- 56:45Speaker 14: all these occupational taxes, the tax of anything and everything
- 56:51Speaker 14: in the state of Connecticut. What does it really bring
- 56:55Speaker 14: into the state? I'm at a loss trying to understand
- 57:00Speaker 14: why we're taxing so much and why we have such
- 57:03Speaker 14: a poor showing across the board with the problems that
- 57:07Speaker 14: the state of Connecticut has.
- 57:10Speaker 1: And you wonder, and it's, I don't see, now again,
- 57:15Speaker 1: I'm the first to tell you, we're chatting with Bob Swick,
- 57:18Speaker 1: this is the Power Hour, I'm Tony D'Angelo in for
- 57:20Speaker 1: Lee Elsie. You don't see that person or that group
- 57:25Speaker 1: of people or that whatever you want to call it,
- 57:29Speaker 1: that bellwether saying, hey, guys, we're on the wrong road here.
- 57:34Speaker 1: States that are low tax or no tax or no
- 57:38Speaker 1: income tax are booming, are creating great environments. The only
- 57:44Speaker 1: thing we seem to do or we do is every
- 57:48Speaker 1: winter it's a scratch around party in the legislature saying,
- 57:52Speaker 1: What can we do to artificially balance our budget? How
- 57:55Speaker 1: much can we borrow? How much can we patch, putty
- 57:59Speaker 1: and whatever the case can be to put together? And
- 58:02Speaker 1: it's like we keep passing out the same amount of leftovers, Bob,
- 58:06Speaker 1: and we end up in the same place. And this
- 58:08Speaker 1: is the thing that and I say, where's that person
- 58:11Speaker 1: who's going to say that this needs to end? We
- 58:14Speaker 1: need to have a flat, simple, fair tax system. We
- 58:18Speaker 1: need to get rid of all these miscellaneous taxes. We
- 58:21Speaker 1: need to thin out the bureaucracy. We need to have
- 58:25Speaker 1: transparency in government. I mean, we're paying for this stuff.
- 58:28Speaker 1: We have no idea what the hell we're paying for, except,
- 58:31Speaker 1: you know, we get from politicians, trust us. I mean,
- 58:33Speaker 1: this is the first thing that goes through my head.
- 58:35Speaker 14: Well, two points. The first point is I think once
- 58:39Speaker 14: taxpayers start realizing how much they're paying for those taxpayers
- 58:43Speaker 14: who are legitimately working and paying taxes on a local, state,
- 58:46Speaker 14: and federal level, once they realize how much taxes they're paying,
- 58:52Speaker 14: and they're saying to themselves, gee, why for every dollar
- 58:55Speaker 14: I earn, I only get to keep maybe 55 or
- 58:57Speaker 14: 60 cents of that dollar, because I'm paying all these
- 59:01Speaker 14: different taxes on a local government level, state government level,
- 59:04Speaker 14: on a federal government level. Where's my money going? And
- 59:09Speaker 14: to the point that Connecticut, with its out-of-control spending, never
- 59:17Speaker 14: addresses the reality of the situation. It's a bloated bureaucracy
- 59:22Speaker 14: with such severe political nepotism. You're never going to stop this.
- 59:27Speaker 14: Unless you have an overhaul of all your state departments,
- 59:31Speaker 14: you really have an audit that is a functional audit
- 59:34Speaker 14: to show where the waste of money is occurring. And
- 59:39Speaker 14: I think once people get mad enough about it, maybe,
- 59:42Speaker 14: just maybe, choices can be made, especially at election time,
- 59:46Speaker 14: to say, we want something different. We want something better.
- 59:49Speaker 14: You know, my first thought to this whole situation, I've
- 59:55Speaker 14: said this for years now, You get a new administration
- 59:58Speaker 14: in Hartford, the governor appoints, he or she will appoint
- 1:00:04Speaker 14: all new commissioners. He or she is going to give
- 1:00:07Speaker 14: a mandate to those commissioners, you need to cut spending
- 1:00:10Speaker 14: first year 10% across the board. I don't care where
- 1:00:13Speaker 14: you cut it, you're cutting it. You're going to be
- 1:00:15Speaker 14: working for a lot less money than what previous commissioners
- 1:00:20Speaker 14: have worked for. I want to cut spending in the
- 1:00:24Speaker 14: state of Connecticut, number one. I want to see visually
- 1:00:28Speaker 14: where the money is going and why. I want justifications
- 1:00:31Speaker 14: for all these different programs. I want justifications of why
- 1:00:35Speaker 14: we're giving money to thousands of nonprofits, and we don't
- 1:00:38Speaker 14: know where it's going. I want justification for spending. Because
- 1:00:41Speaker 14: you know what, Tony? You as a common laborer, you
- 1:00:46Speaker 14: as a worker in the state of Connecticut, you need
- 1:00:48Speaker 14: to justify where you spend every penny so you don't
- 1:00:52Speaker 14: go broke, you don't go bankrupt, you don't lose your
- 1:00:55Speaker 14: home or your condo or so on.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: I can't tax anybody. Yeah.
- 1:01:00Speaker 14: And this is the problem that we have that some
- 1:01:04Speaker 14: people don't see. I really feel, and I'm looking at
- 1:01:09Speaker 14: the glass playing half full, that well over half of
- 1:01:13Speaker 14: the workers in Connecticut, the legal workers in Connecticut, the
- 1:01:16Speaker 14: taxpayers in Connecticut, so on and so forth, are so
- 1:01:18Speaker 14: fed up with this. They would like to hear a
- 1:01:21Speaker 14: program like that. They would like to hear... Some elected officials,
- 1:01:26Speaker 14: somebody running for office, articulate this type of cutting spending.
- 1:01:30Speaker 14: We're going to get tough. We're going to, you know,
- 1:01:33Speaker 14: tighten our belts. We're going to watch every penny we spend.
- 1:01:36Speaker 14: We're going to, we want to lower taxes. We want
- 1:01:39Speaker 14: to give people more money in their take-home pay, so
- 1:01:42Speaker 14: on and so forth. And I'll tell you this, Tony,
- 1:01:45Speaker 14: you don't have to be an economist to figure this out.
- 1:01:47Speaker 14: Every dollar that government takes from you is one less
- 1:01:51Speaker 14: dollar that you have to spend One less dollar you
- 1:01:55Speaker 14: have to invest, one less dollar to put in your
- 1:01:58Speaker 14: savings account, one less dollar to pay off any debt
- 1:02:01Speaker 14: that you have. And the more dollars that are taken
- 1:02:04Speaker 14: from your pay, the less ability you have to better
- 1:02:08Speaker 14: yourself economically, to move forward for your future, because you
- 1:02:13Speaker 14: know what? Government's not going to look out for you
- 1:02:15Speaker 14: when you retire, and or if you get ill, so
- 1:02:18Speaker 14: on and so forth, contrary to what they're trying to
- 1:02:21Speaker 14: tell you.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: Well, you know, and this is the thing that drives
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: me absolutely bonkers. I was chatting with a friend earlier,
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: and people aren't, how could I put it, maybe 100%
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: happy with everything they're seeing coming out of Washington, to
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: which I say there's some incredible things. There's some things
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: that need to be fixed, and I don't say that
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: from a critical vein. I say that because I don't
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: want to see Texas fall. I don't want to see
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: Maine fall. I don't want to see Michigan fall. I mean,
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: these are like the last stock, you know, to your point,
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: North Carolina. And it's but do you really want this
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: batso world with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez being your president and 13
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: or 15 or however many Supreme Court justices? And it's like,
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: can we take what's working and make it better? And
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: To the Trump administration, can they fix what needs to
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: be fixed now? Because we're really talking the, how can
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: I put it, the welfare of the country, of the
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: United States of America. I don't care if you're liberal, conservative, green, red, Chevy, Ford,
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: makes no difference. But, Bob, you know, it's like where
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: I lose my mind, you know, back to, you know,
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: local business. We don't see, again, with the good things,
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: Connecticut is missing an incredible opportunity. with the Opportunity Zone window,
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: which should have been declared two months ago, and going forward,
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: and to put out a fresh face. We have Opportunity Zones.
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: I talked to a very astute friend about this, and
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: he said, you know, every single Republican should be in Washington, D.C., saying, Mr. President,
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: we're sincere about making Connecticut a better place, because I
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: was talking to another friend. who says, you know, I
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: talk to these people, mostly women, 50s, 60s, moms, grandmoms, daughter,
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: and you can see in their face the desperation, the hope,
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: the fear that this, for lack of a better term,
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: it's early, I'm sorry, communist takeover is going to come
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: and hit us in the back of the head. And
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: what happens then? It's like, so if I'm a politician,
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: I'm like, Do you really think that this tax system,
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: do you really think that this economy, do you really
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: think that this overtaxation, do you really think that chasing
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: the last 8 or 10 or 12 billionaires out of
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: town is going to sustain Connecticut forever? Connecticut's a great place.
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: You know, the Ned Lamont mojo comeback. Bob, I am speechless.
- 1:04:59Speaker 14: Well, the biggest problem with the inability of our elected
- 1:05:04Speaker 14: officials to realize that The amount of economic resources that
- 1:05:10Speaker 14: are wasted in Connecticut is astounding to me. The properties
- 1:05:14Speaker 14: that are vacant, the properties that are run down, the
- 1:05:17Speaker 14: people who are really wanting to work, not being able
- 1:05:21Speaker 14: to find anything other than, you know, working at a
- 1:05:23Speaker 14: corner coffee shop or whatever. The young people who graduate
- 1:05:28Speaker 14: from the state and get out as fast as they
- 1:05:30Speaker 14: possibly can. There's so much wasted economic resources because those
- 1:05:36Speaker 14: resources are channeled to the ruling elite, which to me
- 1:05:40Speaker 14: is the elected official in Connecticut, especially on a state
- 1:05:43Speaker 14: level and on a federal level. So we don't mind,
- 1:05:47Speaker 14: not we, but they don't mind seeing these opportunity zones go,
- 1:05:52Speaker 14: you know, wasted. They want them to be wasted because
- 1:05:55Speaker 14: then there has to be a greater dependency on them
- 1:05:58Speaker 14: and their governmental programs of the redistribution of wealth, which
- 1:06:03Speaker 14: occurs in any type of taxing system. And in Connecticut,
- 1:06:07Speaker 14: it's more pronounced because you have such high taxes in
- 1:06:11Speaker 14: the state. Look at Massachusetts. Look at New York. Look
- 1:06:15Speaker 14: at New Jersey. Look at California. Look at Illinois. These
- 1:06:19Speaker 14: are all areas of our country where there is a
- 1:06:21Speaker 14: great deal of wasted economic opportunity. There's a lot of
- 1:06:25Speaker 14: wasted economic resources. There's a lot of waste of economic productivity.
- 1:06:32Speaker 14: And this all compounds the problems that these Democrats have
- 1:06:37Speaker 14: created in these states under the guise of their social welfare, DEI, yada, yada,
- 1:06:42Speaker 14: yada programs. to infinity with regards to you have to
- 1:06:47Speaker 14: follow this route, you have to follow that route, and no,
- 1:06:50Speaker 14: we're not going to worry about anything else. That's the problem.
- 1:06:53Speaker 14: America needs to become productive again. Our states, who are
- 1:06:58Speaker 14: so deeply blue and are totally unconcerned about businesses and
- 1:07:03Speaker 14: employment and jobs, they need to start to understand one
- 1:07:07Speaker 14: day they're going to really wish they could get those
- 1:07:09Speaker 14: economic resources back, and you know what? They're not going
- 1:07:12Speaker 14: to be back. What happens in Connecticut if a couple
- 1:07:15Speaker 14: of grocery chains say, hey, we're out of the state.
- 1:07:18Speaker 14: We can't afford to operate here. We can't afford to
- 1:07:21Speaker 14: pay people bagging groceries $ 25. We can't afford only to
- 1:07:25Speaker 14: have two self-serve checkout registers.
- 1:07:29Speaker 15: So on and so forth.
- 1:07:30Speaker 14: What happens when they go? Where are people going to
- 1:07:31Speaker 14: get their food?
- 1:07:33Speaker 15: They don't see it.
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: They don't see it. They do not see it.
- 1:07:35Speaker 34: Right, yeah.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: It's Tony D'Angelo, 94.9, The Lee Elsey Show, September 15, 2026.
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: The Power Hour with Professor Bob Swick. And the thing
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: that really gets me is, let's just say you've screwed up,
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: and we've all screwed up. Let's just say you've screwed
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: up badly, and you're at a point of repentance, and
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: you're like, man, I've got to get somebody or something
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: to believe in me again. What do I need to do?
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: I mean, Bob, your very first thing is, I'm going
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: to change every single thing that got me into this mess,
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: and I'm going to start small, and I'm going to
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: get people to believe in me. Connecticut just has this
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: arrogance of, you know, well, we'll keep doing the same thing.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: We're just going to, you know, you had mentioned in
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: your article this past Saturday the Republican tax plan. I mean,
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: my first thought when I looked at it is, look,
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: I think any tax reduction is a good tax reduction,
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: but we're keeping the same taxes. It's like we have
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: a suspension on one. We're not going to tax off.
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: We're not going to bracket. But we're keeping the same
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: damn system. And for us to be competitive, for us
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: to attract people to the state, we've got to do
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: something radically different. And why don't people see that? And
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: why do we end up in the same place all
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: the time?
- 1:08:58Speaker 14: Well, I believe people. are starting to see it. I
- 1:09:01Speaker 14: think they're realizing, especially in Connecticut, that they've been lied
- 1:09:04Speaker 14: to for such a long time. They've really had it,
- 1:09:07Speaker 14: and especially when it comes to taxation. And again, if
- 1:09:10Speaker 14: your system doesn't work, why are you doing the same
- 1:09:13Speaker 14: thing over and over again? How does a successful business
- 1:09:16Speaker 14: stay in business? Well, if they're doing something wrong, they
- 1:09:19Speaker 14: correct it right away. Connecticut, we just continue to do
- 1:09:22Speaker 14: the same thing over and over again for the past
- 1:09:24Speaker 14: 35 years. So I guess we want to go into
- 1:09:27Speaker 14: economic oblivion rather than any type of economic prosperity. I mean,
- 1:09:31Speaker 14: think about it.
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: Well, you know.
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: And again.
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: Go ahead, please.
- 1:09:35Speaker 14: And again, you have to realize that the state does
- 1:09:39Speaker 14: not have this entire... All those citizens in the state
- 1:09:43Speaker 14: don't have this mentality of economic failure. They want to...
- 1:09:47Speaker 14: They want to be successful. There's a lot of small
- 1:09:50Speaker 14: businesses in Connecticut who will do whatever they've got to
- 1:09:52Speaker 14: do to fight the state so they can prosper, they
- 1:09:55Speaker 14: can grow, they can provide jobs, so on and so forth.
- 1:09:59Speaker 14: You never hear from those businesses. They're the ones who
- 1:10:03Speaker 14: always shut out. But at the same time, state elected
- 1:10:08Speaker 14: officials have to realize that A lot of people are
- 1:10:11Speaker 14: on to their lives. A lot of people are on
- 1:10:13Speaker 14: to their failed programs, and they've had enough of them.
- 1:10:18Speaker 14: They just have to turn out en masse, in my opinion,
- 1:10:20Speaker 14: to correct it by getting these failed politicians out of
- 1:10:24Speaker 14: office and getting some new blood, new ideas, new thoughts.
- 1:10:28Speaker 14: How did our country form? Was it the same type
- 1:10:31Speaker 14: of monarchy or actual democracy? for lack of a better term,
- 1:10:37Speaker 14: dictatorship that was Europe at that time?
- 1:10:39Speaker 15: No.
- 1:10:40Speaker 14: It was the concept of freedom, economic freedom, religious freedom.
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: We took a bunch of guns and got rid of
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: the suckers. Anyway, it's Tony D'Angelo, 94.9 News and Stimulating Talk.
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: This is the Power Hour with Professor Bob Swick. We've
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: got a whole half hour to go. And this is, Bob,
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: we're just getting warmed up. And this is an unbelievable
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: time on the radio. So grateful for it. We'll be
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: right back, right after these messages.

- 1:13:39Speaker 7: Have we met yet?
- 1:13:49Speaker 21: It's Hugh Hewitt here with Ken and Nick Tumalo, hosts
- 1:13:51Speaker 21: of Tumalo Financial Radio, Sundays on 94.9. Guys, why do
- 1:13:56Speaker 21: taxes get overlooked in retirement planning?
- 1:13:59Speaker 40: Because the tax code is so complicated. You look at it,
- 1:14:01Speaker 40: the 401k is pre-tax money. The Roth is tax-free. Your
- 1:14:04Speaker 40: non-retirement accounts are capital gains, dividends, and interest. Your Social
- 1:14:07Speaker 40: Security is taxed by provisional income. I'm giving you all
- 1:14:10Speaker 40: these things and you're probably already confused. That's why you
- 1:14:12Speaker 40: want to build out that two-month retirement checkup to see short,
- 1:14:16Speaker 40: first long-term effects on these type of things.
- 1:14:18Speaker 6: Because you never know.
- 1:14:19Speaker 40: You might have been saving well in those 401ks and
- 1:14:21Speaker 40: you might have a required minimum distribution issue at 73
- 1:14:25Speaker 40: or 75, depending on your birth. So you really don't
- 1:14:28Speaker 40: want to look at it just on a one-year basis.
- 1:14:30Speaker 40: Oh yeah, I'm going to do a Roth conversion this year.
- 1:14:32Speaker 40: It's going to take care of everything.
- 1:14:34Speaker 39: No.
- 1:14:34Speaker 40: Planning takes year over year on tax planning.
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: You can't just do it in one year.
- 1:14:38Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:14:38Speaker 41: One of the biggest things that we did find with
- 1:14:40Speaker 41: tax planning, especially for our listeners, was that it has
- 1:14:44Speaker 41: to be done over multiple years to actually gain an advantage.
- 1:14:47Speaker 41: So it's not that simple where you just make one
- 1:14:49Speaker 41: change in one year. A lot of times it's the
- 1:14:51Speaker 41: planning piece of it. And when we do our two-month
- 1:14:53Speaker 41: financial retirement checkup, it actually looks like a big spreadsheet.
- 1:14:56Speaker 4: And it shows the numbers over a whole bunch of years.
- 1:14:58Speaker 41: We like to go out 24, even 30 years at
- 1:15:01Speaker 41: times when we're projecting out. Because if we can pick
- 1:15:03Speaker 41: up on some of these tax things and then start
- 1:15:05Speaker 41: to implement strategies, then what we can do is put
- 1:15:08Speaker 41: in front of you, the listeners, we can put in
- 1:15:10Speaker 41: front of them where they would save money in taxes
- 1:15:12Speaker 41: and how much over time. So it starts with that

- 1:23:29Speaker 1: wherever you want to go.
- 1:23:31Speaker 14: There was a pension report.
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
- 1:23:35Speaker 14: Issued last week, which we both talked about to someone,
- 1:23:41Speaker 14: which talked about the incredible, incredible rate of return that
- 1:23:47Speaker 14: the state of Connecticut pension plan received over the past year. However,
- 1:23:54Speaker 14: there was a bunch of what I feel and I
- 1:23:58Speaker 14: know what you feel were discrepancies in the report which
- 1:24:03Speaker 14: was issued by the state and was reported on by
- 1:24:09Speaker 14: the Connecticut Mirror which basically in my opinion and the
- 1:24:15Speaker 14: opinion of others rewrote the press release and Treasurer Russell's
- 1:24:22Speaker 14: September report talked about how great the rate of return was, 15.1%.
- 1:24:30Speaker 14: Pension increased in value, and it was an astounding $ 11
- 1:24:39Speaker 14: billion that he claims it increased by. And the report
- 1:24:47Speaker 14: itself is... very, very difficult to understand unless you have,
- 1:24:54Speaker 14: in my opinion, some sort of financial, accounting, economics background,
- 1:24:58Speaker 14: because it's filled with a lot of different, for lack
- 1:25:03Speaker 14: of a better way of explaining, fabrications with percentages. And
- 1:25:09Speaker 14: to try to give some background on what occurs in
- 1:25:15Speaker 14: a pension fund for a government entities, so on and
- 1:25:20Speaker 14: so forth, is that state pensions, local pensions invest a
- 1:25:26Speaker 14: lot in private equity. And I know you're very familiar, Tony,
- 1:25:30Speaker 14: with private equity and the concept of the private equity market.
- 1:25:33Speaker 14: Private equity will refer to investment funds, which basically buy
- 1:25:38Speaker 14: shares from private companies that are not listed on the
- 1:25:40Speaker 14: public stock exchanges, like the New York Exchange, American Exchange, over-the-counter,
- 1:25:45Speaker 14: so on and so forth. In doing so, these private
- 1:25:50Speaker 14: equity firms have a tendency to get a higher rate
- 1:25:54Speaker 14: of return. They have a tendency to might be a
- 1:25:58Speaker 14: little more risk adverse in their investments, so on and
- 1:26:05Speaker 14: so forth. But what I kind of didn't understand about
- 1:26:10Speaker 14: the report is, Given the stock market's value increasing over
- 1:26:17Speaker 14: the past year, and especially since President Trump took office again,
- 1:26:21Speaker 14: the stock market has pretty much gone up roughly, I
- 1:26:26Speaker 14: would say, 5,000, 6,000 points over the past few years.
- 1:26:31Speaker 14: So any pension fund who's investing in the market or
- 1:26:34Speaker 14: in private equity should see a pretty hefty rate of return.
- 1:26:40Speaker 14: What I found interesting about this report, it's issued right
- 1:26:43Speaker 14: before the election. It's issued with the biggest discrepancy is
- 1:26:49Speaker 14: looking at the rates of return and looking at one
- 1:26:54Speaker 14: thing that I really did not understand is their rate
- 1:27:00Speaker 14: of return and their percentages they wanted to invest in
- 1:27:06Speaker 14: are somewhat askew compared to what they're saying they're investing in.
- 1:27:12Speaker 14: And that's the part I find very confusing about this
- 1:27:15Speaker 14: whole report.
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: Well, I think that if you look at it, and
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: I think you're right, you know, you need some sort
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: of a, at least a bachelor's in business and finance
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: with a really good teacher to figure out what's happening.
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: The things that caught me is that Let's talk about
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: private equity. What is private equity? Well, private equity is
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: a value in a company somewhere. We don't know what
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: it is. We don't know what they're doing. It could
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: be a concept. It could be something out of Connecticut Innovations.
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: It could be something out of a conglomeration of a
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: Hamilton Lane something with an Oak HCFT investment. We've seen
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: that before. I've got the slides to prove it. It's
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: whatever it is, but what is that worth? And the
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: fact of the matter is they attribute a value to it.
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: In other words, somebody will sit there, some well-paid state employee,
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: or they'll go out and hire somebody who's an appraiser
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: of portfolios, you know, more, and like Based upon projections,
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: cash flow, all the rosy assumptions in the world, this
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: is worth that, and they stick that on a report.
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: But the fact of the matter is, and this is
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: the thing that my senior trust officer used to say
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: at the bank all the time, New Haven Savings Bank,
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: may she rest in peace, that it's the buy window
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: theory of life, Bob. If I took that private equity,
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: now 30% of this portfolio is in private equity. And
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: so if I went to sell that today, tomorrow, next week,
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: what would I get for it? The answer is I
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: would get as much for it as I'm holding my
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: hand here to the camera, absolutely nothing. So really you
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: got 70%. of the assets in this thing that really
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: have an established market. The other 30% are, for lack
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: of a better term, crapshoot. Now, the other thing is,
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: when I looked at that portfolio, I said to myself,
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: what is Russell doing? Well, he's got this, you know,
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: how could I put it? He's got this cadre of people.
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: There's bureaucrats. They're doing nice reports. Isn't this really great? Bob,
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: they're investing in funds. I can invest in funds on
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: my phone, you know, and it's like, You can do
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: it with a three-person, four-person office. How many people are involved,
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: whatever they're doing, and, like, this is a great thing.
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: And it's like, how big is that food chain with
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: a 70% liquidity corpus, if you will? Corpus means, you know,
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: body of food.
- 1:29:44Speaker 14: And this goes back to what I said in the
- 1:29:46Speaker 14: first half hour. Okay, here's a department that is so bloated.
- 1:29:51Speaker 14: And like you're saying, all this could have been done
- 1:29:54Speaker 14: with three or four people actually analyzing the funds and
- 1:29:58Speaker 14: investing them. And then just make sure when you're audited,
- 1:30:01Speaker 14: you know, you cross your T's and so on and
- 1:30:05Speaker 14: so forth. And they were legitimate at that point. So
- 1:30:10Speaker 14: based on that, okay, so now you've got an outside
- 1:30:12Speaker 14: firm trying to analyze this, what the state employees are doing.
- 1:30:16Speaker 14: How much are you actually spending to manage the fund?
- 1:30:20Speaker 14: I personally can't find that information anywhere based.
- 1:30:23Speaker 2: On the website.
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: Me neither.
- 1:30:27Speaker 14: And again, this report is just so confusing, it really
- 1:30:32Speaker 14: doesn't make any sense. The concept of the benchmark that
- 1:30:37Speaker 14: they're using to their portfolio also doesn't make sense. And again,
- 1:30:43Speaker 14: as I stated earlier, the market is doing spectacular right now,
- 1:30:49Speaker 14: contrary to what the Democrats are trying to say. So
- 1:30:52Speaker 14: they're going to get a high rate of return, you know,
- 1:30:56Speaker 14: no matter what. At the same time, they're still underfunded,
- 1:31:01Speaker 14: even though they're claiming they increased the portfolio by $ 11 billion,
- 1:31:06Speaker 14: which they really didn't, because they're adding different areas to
- 1:31:11Speaker 14: that $ 11 billion, not the actual net gain.
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: And they're counting that as an increase, yeah. It's gaining money.
- 1:31:19Speaker 14: That doesn't make sense either. And again, reading the state's, uh...
- 1:31:26Speaker 14: monthly report and i i looked at a few of
- 1:31:28Speaker 14: them their pdf files you can get go on the
- 1:31:30Speaker 14: treasurer's plate and you can look at them and you'll
- 1:31:33Speaker 14: probably be astounded at what you see because it doesn't
- 1:31:35Speaker 14: really doesn't say anything and really doesn't tell you what's
- 1:31:38Speaker 14: really going on they have a policy target for example
- 1:31:42Speaker 14: for global equities thirty seven percent however if you look
- 1:31:47Speaker 14: at their actual holding but i had difficulty figuring out
- 1:31:51Speaker 14: what the actual percentage was but i came to a
- 1:31:53Speaker 14: conclusion and i think you you pretty much agreed with
- 1:31:56Speaker 14: what you said. It's roughly 50% to 51% in global equities. Okay,
- 1:32:01Speaker 14: so this is a red flag for the portfolio. You're
- 1:32:05Speaker 14: overextended in global equities, and then those funds are underweight,
- 1:32:12Speaker 14: meaning that they are below average as far as the
- 1:32:16Speaker 14: rate of return, so on and so forth, which would
- 1:32:18Speaker 14: bring down the whole portfolio at the same time. So
- 1:32:21Speaker 14: how is this whole report not really more analyzed by
- 1:32:28Speaker 14: the people who wrote it in the State Department and
- 1:32:31Speaker 14: by the treasurer if he really understands what he's doing there,
- 1:32:34Speaker 14: and B, how underfunded still is the pension in real
- 1:32:41Speaker 14: dollars and cents? can't find that out either. So it's
- 1:32:44Speaker 14: very problematic.
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: And you look at it, and here's the thing. If
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: I'm making a commitment, if you will, and it's sort
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: of like rosy assumptions will stop at reality. And I
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: am managing the pension, and I want to put, I
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: don't know, X millions of dollars into boogie-woogie Mother McCree
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: pudding and pie private equity fund, and I've got a commitment. Now, okay,
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: as to your point, the public markets, the exchanges are
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: doing quite well. Trading these days is very easy to do.
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: You can trade actual equities. I mean, apparently, you know,
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: these guys like funds. Okay, that's fine. But where's your capital?
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: Where's your loose capital to sit there and say, Okay,
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: we can have, you know, what is doing well in
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: the equity market? What can we risk? Well, okay, we've
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: got these funds. Funds, of course, are difficult to sell.
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: You can sell them, but you've got to, like, wait
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: to the end of the day and stuff like that. But, oh,
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: we have any loose cash lying around? Well, no, not really,
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: because we bought all this stuff in private equity. Why
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: don't we sell the private equity? Well, excuse me, there's
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: no market for that. I mean, this is the kind
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: of thing that drives me absolutely crazy.
- 1:34:06Speaker 14: And another point, too, which, you know, it's very easy
- 1:34:09Speaker 14: to lie with statistics and lie, you know, with figures.
- 1:34:13Speaker 14: They're claiming they have $ 76 billion in pension assets. Well,
- 1:34:17Speaker 14: if you do the math and you're adding everything up,
- 1:34:19Speaker 14: it only comes up to $ 69 billion in the five
- 1:34:24Speaker 14: funds that are shown in the report itself. Now, clarifying
- 1:34:29Speaker 14: that the treasurer's office obviously oversees other investments and additional funds.
- 1:34:35Speaker 14: investment areas. However, they're not included in the report. So
- 1:34:39Speaker 14: how can you come up with somebody, where's that $ 7 billion?
- 1:34:43Speaker 14: Is that an accounting error? Is that just fabricating it
- 1:34:46Speaker 14: more to make it look better, so on and so forth?
- 1:34:49Speaker 14: But here was the kicker for me, and it was
- 1:34:51Speaker 14: the kicker for you, I know for sure. He made
- 1:34:54Speaker 14: a statement that they are in the top 25% of
- 1:35:00Speaker 14: all major public funds, but I looked on the Internet
- 1:35:03Speaker 14: to try to find where that was. I couldn't find anything.
- 1:35:06Speaker 14: So I think the treasurer himself created his own peer
- 1:35:11Speaker 14: ranking that he has. He's in the top 25 percent
- 1:35:16Speaker 14: in his own mind. He doesn't have any independent verification
- 1:35:21Speaker 14: of it. You don't read any of it in the report.
- 1:35:23Speaker 14: You don't see it anywhere on the treasurer's website. So
- 1:35:27Speaker 14: where did that figure come from? He could be in
- 1:35:29Speaker 14: the bottom 25%, not the 25% for all we know.
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: Well, you know, and I'm sorry, please go ahead.
- 1:35:36Speaker 14: And again, with the value of the market going up
- 1:35:40Speaker 14: as much as it's gone up, I would expect, you
- 1:35:44Speaker 14: would expect, people who are more financial savvy would expect,
- 1:35:48Speaker 14: they should have a much higher rate of return than
- 1:35:50Speaker 14: what they have here. So is that private equity they've
- 1:35:53Speaker 14: invested in, which possibly could be a Lamont connection, or
- 1:35:57Speaker 14: a political crony connection, is that dragging down the portfolio?
- 1:36:02Speaker 14: Is this report basically the opposite of what we're really
- 1:36:06Speaker 14: seeing if we break down the report and actually look
- 1:36:09Speaker 14: at it from a pure dollars and cents point of
- 1:36:12Speaker 14: view through what a pension fund is supposed to do?
- 1:36:17Speaker 14: Can't get an answer on that. So we're just going
- 1:36:20Speaker 14: to take this at face value and this is, you know, okay,
- 1:36:22Speaker 14: we're in great shape. Next case.
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: On my way back north this morning, I will pass
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: state highway workers, and they're doing something on the 395.
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: Oftentimes I wonder, gee, did you have to go and
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: redo the same thing that you did last week? That's
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: another discussion for another time. But if I were to
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: walk up to these people, and I'm a candidate, I'm
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: a super-duper candidate, and say, hey, guy, do you realize
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: that for every dollar in that pension fund, 70% of
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: it we can sell. Really, your expected dollar is only
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: worth 70% of what you think it is.
- 1:37:02Speaker 14: Exactly. And again, it's to me just such a misguided,
- 1:37:08Speaker 14: misrepresented report. It's not even funny. Another point I'd like
- 1:37:12Speaker 14: to make, and we talked a little bit about this,
- 1:37:14Speaker 14: the emerging markets equity.
- 1:37:20Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:37:20Speaker 14: fun actuary or area actually uh... it's index uh... roughly
- 1:37:26Speaker 14: by twelve percent but he claims from the report they
- 1:37:31Speaker 14: reduced investments in emerging ventures difficult to understand based on
- 1:37:36Speaker 14: the numbers that they're looking at so it other again
- 1:37:39Speaker 14: it's almost guided and and and uh... the what segment
- 1:37:42Speaker 14: i think it drove both of us crazy but the
- 1:37:45Speaker 14: baby but i.
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: Don't think you know please elaborate baby.
- 1:37:48Speaker 14: Barbara The results were negative, and we don't even know
- 1:37:55Speaker 14: what they're investing in. So why would you want to
- 1:37:59Speaker 14: put a penny of your hard-earned money to help your
- 1:38:02Speaker 14: child in a Connecticut baby bond that's beyond me? It
- 1:38:08Speaker 14: doesn't make sense.
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: No, and what, you know, here I am. You know,
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: some days I feel like a... Very poor version of
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: John the Baptist. I haven't gotten to the locusts and
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: wild honey yet. But where the Trump account.
- 1:38:23Speaker 9: Sorry.
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: You know, listen, if your car veered off the road,
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: get it back on the road. You know, don't hate me.
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: But the Trump account. Now, this is. Newt Gingrich. This
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: is Larry Kudlow. This is Gavin Newsom, of all people
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: saying this is the best financial vehicle for kids ever.
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: I mean, Gavin Newsom, somebody probably told him to do that.
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: But but that all said, it's like You have a
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: choice of something like that, illiquid assets in some fund.
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: And thank God none of these kids are 18 yet
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: because they may not be able to cash out because
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: you can't sell a private equity unless there is a
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: buyer for that. And there's something when you sell private equity,
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: when you value business, because I've done this. I don't
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: do it anymore. I'm not nearly as suicidal as I
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: used to be, called a Lack of marketability discounts. So, okay,
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: you think it's.
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: Worth $ 100?
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: Well, you can't find a market, so we're going to
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: take 50% of that, and that's basically what any buyer
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: will do. And it's like, why wouldn't you want to
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: secure the future of Connecticut's children rather than being political? Bob,
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: this is an unbelievable thing, and this went a lot
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: faster than I thought. We are actually coming up to
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: be out of time, but I will tell you, I
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: have spoken to the management of... 94.9. And I will
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: be doing this by the blessings of God with Bob

- 1:46:44Speaker 38: We don't know who struck whom inside the Strait of Hormuz,
- 1:46:47Speaker 38: but another vessel hit by a projectile. It really goes
- 1:46:51Speaker 38: to show just how active this Strait of Hormuz area
- 1:46:54Speaker 38: remains militarily. This is the third vessel to be struck
- 1:46:57Speaker 38: in the past six days. In the meantime, Saudi Arabia

- 1:51:06Speaker 6: Police believe.
- 1:51:08Speaker 26: Woodmancy lost control, crossed the center line, and crashed near

- 1:51:43Speaker 26: minor injuries after an erratic driver entered a closed crash
- 1:51:47Speaker 26: scene on Route 66 Sunday. The driver fled towards Portland
- 1:51:51Speaker 26: and police are investigating. The Rhode Island Board of Elections
- 1:51:55Speaker 26: rejected a full recount in the Republican gubernatorial primary but
- 1:52:00Speaker 26: approved a review of voting machine data. Aaron Gukian led
- 1:52:05Speaker 26: Elaine Polino by 259 votes in the latest tally with
- 1:52:09Speaker 26: the review scheduled today.
- 1:52:11Speaker 6: I'm Sean Murphy. When news breaks, we break in.
- 1:52:18Speaker 2: Wait, wait. I want to get comfortable.
- 1:52:34Speaker 3: Appointed by former Governor Jody Rell, he's a master litigator,
- 1:52:39Speaker 3: a fierce and respected judge, and Connecticut's super lawyer. Ladies

- 1:53:05Speaker 1: body of experience, Judge John Nazaro. And people look forward
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: to this, and so do I. How are you, sir?
- 1:53:12Speaker 37: Thank you so much.
- 1:53:13Speaker 2: I'm well.
- 1:53:14Speaker 37: You know, I slept better last night, which is good.
- 1:53:17Speaker 37: And so much going on. And I listened to your
- 1:53:20Speaker 37: program with interest, Bob Swick. We have two Southern Connecticut
- 1:53:22Speaker 37: guys in a row, me and Swick. But listen to
- 1:53:25Speaker 37: us anyway, right?
- 1:53:26Speaker 6: No kidding.
- 1:53:28Speaker 37: But so much going on, and so we're going to
- 1:53:29Speaker 37: dive right into it. those out there that listen frequently.
- 1:53:33Speaker 37: I'm a retired judge lawyering again, and I'm able to opine.
- 1:53:37Speaker 37: People ask me, are you running for anything? No, I'm
- 1:53:39Speaker 37: running for my wife if she calls, if I know
- 1:53:41Speaker 37: what's good for me, or to the fridge for a beer.
- 1:53:44Speaker 37: Other than that, it's really empowering because I can say things.
- 1:53:48Speaker 37: We went to, and the host here normally, unlike the
- 1:53:52Speaker 37: election season, we're all at a Republican event, and it
- 1:53:55Speaker 37: was so much energy, right?
- 1:53:56Speaker 2: So much energy, Mr.
- 1:53:58Speaker 37: Fazio running for governor. Got to meet Matt Corey. I
- 1:54:01Speaker 37: know I'm talking politics, but he was a Navy guy.
- 1:54:03Speaker 37: So those local sub people, he's a surface craft guy
- 1:54:07Speaker 37: from Manchester. And, you know, he was really approachable. And
- 1:54:11Speaker 37: we talked about issues and he's passionate running for lieutenant
- 1:54:14Speaker 37: governor and all the other slate. So it's an exciting time. Meanwhile, meanwhile,
- 1:54:19Speaker 37: I think Donald Trump has a real tough time.
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: Elaborate, please.
- 1:54:22Speaker 37: Yes, because the courts are whacking the DOJ every step
- 1:54:26Speaker 37: of the way. And what happened is the U.S. Supreme
- 1:54:29Speaker 37: Court yesterday refused, refused to clear the Postal Service to
- 1:54:33Speaker 37: enforce new restrictions on mail-in ballots in the upcoming election.
- 1:54:37Speaker 37: And that's number one, because what happens is you hear
- 1:54:41Speaker 37: the headline and it's a perception that the DOJ is
- 1:54:45Speaker 37: trying to restrict voting. And, you know, you have those
- 1:54:47Speaker 37: that argue about the mail-in ballots. So the state electors
- 1:54:52Speaker 37: are mailing out the ballots and it's going to happen.
- 1:54:55Speaker 37: And so the DOJ keeps getting slapped down.
- 1:54:58Speaker 2: And what does that mean?
- 1:54:59Speaker 37: Appearance is everything, right? You perceive the president to be losing.
- 1:55:04Speaker 37: They're failing on the injunctions. The executive orders are being
- 1:55:07Speaker 37: struck down. And it's not a good look. So we
- 1:55:10Speaker 37: have this constellation of negative events. And here comes the
- 1:55:13Speaker 37: hate mail. And the truth is, we got rates going
- 1:55:17Speaker 37: up tomorrow, probably. There's a 90% chance. I study the
- 1:55:20Speaker 37: financial markets. I'm in the markets. I was listening to
- 1:55:23Speaker 37: your discussion. And I do trade my own account. Some
- 1:55:26Speaker 37: people may call me an idiot, but I learned to
- 1:55:28Speaker 37: do that some years ago because I study it.
- 1:55:31Speaker 2: I know what I'm doing.
- 1:55:32Speaker 37: But point is, interest rates are going up. Oil's over
- 1:55:35Speaker 37: $ 103 a barrel. And diesel just hit a record high
- 1:55:39Speaker 37: at $ 6. 49 a gallon. It's the economy, stupid, right? So
- 1:55:43Speaker 37: we've got interest rates coming up.
- 1:55:44Speaker 2: Oil's high.
- 1:55:45Speaker 37: We've got conflict in Iran. We got this big AI story.
- 1:55:49Speaker 37: Why should we care? I was watching my daughter.
- 1:55:51Speaker 2: Incredible. You got to go on TheHill.com.
- 1:55:53Speaker 37: My geek daughter, Miranda, senior technology reporter, is distilling what
- 1:55:58Speaker 37: this means. AI, you know, some predict it's going to
- 1:56:01Speaker 37: destroy humanity.
- 1:56:02Speaker 2: But let's talk about.
- 1:56:03Speaker 37: Here and now. What we have are wars being fought
- 1:56:06Speaker 37: with drones, drones, high-capacity munitions. And then Speaker Johnson says, well,
- 1:56:13Speaker 37: we can't let the Chinese beat us. So slow down
- 1:56:16Speaker 37: in this concept of regulation. And in terms of the
- 1:56:19Speaker 37: law and what's going on here, will Congress take up regulation?
- 1:56:23Speaker 37: Probably not if they perceive somehow they're losing to China,
- 1:56:27Speaker 37: this big war. And it's ramping up. We got the
- 1:56:30Speaker 37: war expanding in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia. I got
- 1:56:33Speaker 37: a problem with Saudi Arabia. I'm like the person at
- 1:56:37Speaker 37: the 9-11 ceremony. When is Saudi Arabia going to be
- 1:56:40Speaker 37: held accountable for 9-11?
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: I'm glad you mentioned that.
- 1:56:43Speaker 37: When is Saudi Arabia going to be held accountable for
- 1:56:46Speaker 37: killing Adnan Khashoggi, the reporter who might be a spy,
- 1:56:50Speaker 37: and you bring a bone saw into the embassy?
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: These horrible things.
- 1:56:54Speaker 37: When is Saudi Arabia going to be held accountable for
- 1:56:57Speaker 37: Lockerbie Scotland? We turn a blind eye. We turn a
- 1:57:01Speaker 37: blind eye. 11 out of the 15 pilots were Saudi trained.
- 1:57:06Speaker 37: Osama bin Laden. I mean, I just don't get it.
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: It's OK with folks.
- 1:57:11Speaker 37: So these negative headlines and there is a new ambassador,
- 1:57:16Speaker 37: apparently African-American congressman, West Point graduate. And he was a
- 1:57:21Speaker 37: Saudi Arabia specialist in the Middle East. And now he's
- 1:57:24Speaker 37: been named ambassador in case anybody doesn't notice. We've got
- 1:57:28Speaker 37: a problem in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia cut off production
- 1:57:33Speaker 37: of oil. Oil prices went up and people are going
- 1:57:37Speaker 37: to feel it. People are feeling it now.
- 1:57:38Speaker 14: Right.
- 1:57:39Speaker 2: So there's a lot of problems.
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: Well, these are my concerns because, you know, and every
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: single point you stated, Judge, is valid. But I, if
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: you're listening earlier, I don't want to see President AOC.
- 1:57:54Speaker 1: I don't want to see a 13-member.
- 1:57:56Speaker 2: Nor I.
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: You know, and this is the— we' re given two choices, one
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: which is our president, which, as you say, has got
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: a whole bunch of problems. And then this— I don't
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: know what you want to call it, this utopian future
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: that is getting... to well we will do everything for
- 1:58:13Speaker 1: you because look at what they did and we've got
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: the answer and these are the things frankly that will
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: yes other than coming to do the show will keep
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: me up at night.
- 1:58:21Speaker 37: It becomes a battle of uh lesser lesser evils right
- 1:58:24Speaker 37: exactly we don't want the socialist aoc democrats i'm sorry
- 1:58:28Speaker 37: Here comes a hate mail from the left. So we
- 1:58:30Speaker 37: get it from both sides, you know, and so it's
- 1:58:31Speaker 37: a real terrible situation. But I think the Republicans are
- 1:58:34Speaker 37: in trouble midterms. And I think these rulings that keep
- 1:58:38Speaker 37: coming out, there is another one in terms of voter registration.
- 1:58:42Speaker 7: All right.
- 1:58:43Speaker 37: Donald Trump's push for proof of citizenship yet struck down again.
- 1:58:48Speaker 2: A third U.S.
- 1:58:49Speaker 37: Judge says no, you know. So these people may say
- 1:58:52Speaker 37: these are reasonable accommodations. I mean, you ought to be
- 1:58:55Speaker 37: able to prove you're a citizen at the voting booth.
- 1:58:58Speaker 37: But this last minute rush is failing. And so it's
- 1:59:02Speaker 37: viewed by the left and many and certainly by the
- 1:59:05Speaker 37: courts as obstructionist to getting people to the ballots. And
- 1:59:09Speaker 37: I think the Democrats are united on that. So, again,
- 1:59:12Speaker 37: it's a bad look. You know, when you lose, people
- 1:59:15Speaker 37: sometimes forget about the merits of the legislation or the
- 1:59:18Speaker 37: executive orders. But it's kind of loss after loss. I'm
- 1:59:21Speaker 37: interested to hear from some callers who can call with
- 1:59:23Speaker 37: some court wins of the DOJ lately because they seem
- 1:59:28Speaker 37: to be wanting.
- 1:59:29Speaker 1: Now, is the Trump, for lack, forgive my non-technical explanation,
- 1:59:35Speaker 1: the Trump mail balloting effort initiative, is that now dead?
- 1:59:44Speaker 2: I think it is.
- 1:59:45Speaker 37: It's going to be dead for the midterms. And to me,
- 1:59:48Speaker 37: it smacks of desperation. We've got all these arguments, last
- 1:59:51Speaker 37: minute petitions for injunctive relief. You know, it's like the
- 1:59:55Speaker 37: lawyer in the Clancy trial trying to get an injunction
- 1:59:58Speaker 37: to stop, you know, to excuse the 12th juror. People
- 2:00:02Speaker 37: look at this court system and they must scratch their
- 2:00:04Speaker 37: heads and they say, well, why is everything a 911?
- 2:00:07Speaker 37: And what I mean by that is emergency call, not 911,
- 2:00:09Speaker 37: you know. But it's just not good. It's just, to me, again,
- 2:00:14Speaker 37: it suggests desperation. So this is not good. Also, the
- 2:00:18Speaker 37: latest attempt to charge James Comey failed. It's a big
- 2:00:22Speaker 37: face plant. And I think Comey ought to be charged.
- 2:00:25Speaker 37: I've said this before. I read his book, James Comey,
- 2:00:28Speaker 37: former FBI director. A lot of bad stuff in the
- 2:00:31Speaker 37: DOJ has come out. The weaponization of the use of
- 2:00:35Speaker 37: government resources to go after people. you know, innocent people
- 2:00:39Speaker 37: and certainly to weaponize.
- 2:00:40Speaker 1: It to go after Trump, right?
- 2:00:42Speaker 37: So payback is a B, I think is the expression.
- 2:00:47Speaker 37: Trump's doing what he said he would do. It's not
- 2:00:49Speaker 37: like he didn't, you know, hide what he intended to do.
- 2:00:52Speaker 37: And there are those, John Kiriakou, who's a former CIA agent,
- 2:00:55Speaker 37: I watch his podcast, fascinating guy. He was convicted of
- 2:00:58Speaker 37: foreign espionage. But he says that James Brennan and Comey
- 2:01:03Speaker 37: are terrible people.
- 2:01:04Speaker 2: They're just awful.
- 2:01:05Speaker 1: They were totally weaponized.
- 2:01:06Speaker 37: Anybody who thinks that government works in a vacuum, and
- 2:01:10Speaker 37: I have worked in federal government both as an investigator
- 2:01:13Speaker 37: in Washington in 1981 and a clerk in the United
- 2:01:15Speaker 37: States Attorney's Office.
- 2:01:16Speaker 2: That's a long time ago, lowly, 1982.
- 2:01:18Speaker 37: Let me tell you something. There are agendas there, and
- 2:01:22Speaker 37: they're very powerful people in powerful positions. And if they
- 2:01:27Speaker 37: get a beat on you and you're a target– I've
- 2:01:30Speaker 37: personally been in conversations– Well, you know, this guy, Nazaro,
- 2:01:34Speaker 37: we haven't investigated him for a while. I think it's time.
- 2:01:38Speaker 37: I'd like to see a special agent. Can you get
- 2:01:39Speaker 37: that agent from Orange Street to meet me at 2?
- 2:01:41Speaker 37: That's an actual conversation. It wasn't Nazaro was the target,
- 2:01:44Speaker 37: but it was somebody who I won't mention. He was
- 2:01:46Speaker 37: one of these, like, sovereign citizen people. They carry a
- 2:01:51Speaker 37: statement in their wallet. They don't follow the laws of
- 2:01:52Speaker 37: the United States, including paying taxes. And that's how an
- 2:01:56Speaker 37: investigation was birthed. I was the lone clerk in the
- 2:02:00Speaker 37: criminal unit. And the chief of the criminal unit and
- 2:02:04Speaker 37: I would later become judges. That chief is currently serving
- 2:02:07Speaker 37: as a senior trial referee.
- 2:02:09Speaker 1: I'm smiling.
- 2:02:10Speaker 37: And the other guy, I'm going to give him a
- 2:02:12Speaker 37: shout out. Jeremiah Donovan. Who is Jeremiah?
- 2:02:15Speaker 3: Brilliant.
- 2:02:15Speaker 37: He was a classmate of Richard Blumenthal's. Jeremiah was the
- 2:02:19Speaker 37: lawyer for Joshua Komizarzewski. He was one of the two
- 2:02:22Speaker 37: Cheshire Home Invasion guys. And I learned a lot. And
- 2:02:25Speaker 37: Jeremiah is very liberal, very liberal. And he talks just
- 2:02:29Speaker 37: like Bobby Kennedy. He came from Norwood.
- 2:02:31Speaker 2: Norwood.
- 2:02:32Speaker 37: And he called me John.
- 2:02:33Speaker 2: John.
- 2:02:34Speaker 37: And he was a great disappointment because he didn't go
- 2:02:35Speaker 37: to Boston College. He told his mom, I'm going to
- 2:02:37Speaker 37: have it. And that's where he went. He graduated with
- 2:02:40Speaker 37: Richard and Lee Colchu, my former colleague, resident of the
- 2:02:45Speaker 37: Salem Democratic Party chair. But anyway, the U.S. Attorney's Office, oh,
- 2:02:49Speaker 37: my goodness. I was like going through that security on
- 2:02:52Speaker 37: Orange Street. A lot of power there. So I don't
- 2:02:56Speaker 37: know if James Comey, he escaped it yet again. So Mondami,
- 2:03:01Speaker 37: the mayor in New York, and 22 other states are
- 2:03:05Speaker 37: challenging DHS's non-citizen screening rules. Lawsuits are being filed. When
- 2:03:11Speaker 37: did we ever see this? You know, we got some
- 2:03:14Speaker 37: good money from the meta thing. Connecticut's going to get
- 2:03:17Speaker 37: $ 280 million. William Tong, he did join 38 other states,
- 2:03:21Speaker 37: and there was this massive settlement, kind of like tobacco litigation.
- 2:03:25Speaker 1: Let's see where the dollars go.
- 2:03:26Speaker 6: Bob Swick, if you're listening.
- 2:03:28Speaker 37: Let's follow the money. When we get that $ 280 million,
- 2:03:31Speaker 37: where is it going? Is it going to go into
- 2:03:33Speaker 37: the general fund, or is it going to go somewhere
- 2:03:36Speaker 37: else where it was supposed to be targeted? Meta, in
- 2:03:38Speaker 37: case you didn't know, was sued because of this addiction
- 2:03:42Speaker 37: by kids, and it's a real thing, and now they
- 2:03:44Speaker 37: have to do all these safeguards. And so that kind
- 2:03:47Speaker 37: of is the framework for the AI argument.
- 2:03:49Speaker 1: There needs to be self-regulation. We'll see what's going on.
- 2:03:53Speaker 37: If you're listening, you don't have ADHD. Nazaro's going from
- 2:03:56Speaker 37: topic to topic.
- 2:03:58Speaker 7: Everything's going real fast.
- 2:03:59Speaker 2: I only had one coffee.
- 2:04:01Speaker 37: I'm just conscious of the 25 minutes, how fast things go.
- 2:04:04Speaker 1: Let's talk about AI for a moment.
- 2:04:06Speaker 46: Sure.
- 2:04:10Speaker 1: A part of me, Judge, says this is a bunch
- 2:04:13Speaker 1: of people who are involved in these AI corporations who
- 2:04:17Speaker 1: are incredibly, the brightest people we probably will ever run into.
- 2:04:22Speaker 1: Are going to the politicians who not even arguably sometimes
- 2:04:26Speaker 1: are the dumbest people we'll ever run into and regulate me,
- 2:04:31Speaker 1: regulate me.
- 2:04:32Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh.
- 2:04:33Speaker 1: And and I'm thinking, Judge, I'm thinking, well, what's the
- 2:04:36Speaker 1: game here? Are they just saying we're going right by
- 2:04:40Speaker 1: Trump to the Democrat Party and we're going to get
- 2:04:43Speaker 1: ourselves into a thing where. We're going to have this
- 2:04:46Speaker 1: trusted group of advisors. And what do you listen to?
- 2:04:49Speaker 1: Your legal brain is clicking. Antitrust.
- 2:04:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:04:53Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:04:53Speaker 37: Antitrust is right. And, you know, Mark Zuckerberg for years
- 2:04:57Speaker 37: resisted any kind of regulation. And he's not well liked
- 2:05:00Speaker 37: by a lot of people, only when forced by this
- 2:05:03Speaker 37: settlement and lawsuits. And I'm going to, you know, boy,
- 2:05:07Speaker 37: I got to be careful what I say.
- 2:05:08Speaker 2: My son works for.
- 2:05:09Speaker 37: Him and he's a senior, you know, runs a team
- 2:05:12Speaker 37: in New York and They managed that, and he's working
- 2:05:15Speaker 37: in AI, a lot of regulation. So this AI thing,
- 2:05:18Speaker 37: it needs to be regulated. And will they self-regulate? I
- 2:05:21Speaker 37: always say this. Government is terrible. Congress is more than
- 2:05:25Speaker 37: willing to cede to the president an executive order so
- 2:05:28Speaker 37: they don't have ownership of what might be a bad decision, right?
- 2:05:34Speaker 37: So they're like, okay, you regulate yourself. No, no, Congress,
- 2:05:37Speaker 37: you regulate. Is anybody doing their job? And then there's
- 2:05:41Speaker 37: a citizen out there. With all this explosion of AI,
- 2:05:45Speaker 37: I'm actually creeping into it. I think I mentioned this
- 2:05:47Speaker 37: last time. I used an app which transcribes meetings. I'm
- 2:05:53Speaker 37: reluctantly going kicking and screaming. Some people I know live
- 2:05:55Speaker 37: by it. And I think it's a very useful thing.
- 2:05:58Speaker 37: But the fact is it's used in defense, contracting, and
- 2:06:02Speaker 37: this whole thing with China. We're in this race now
- 2:06:04Speaker 37: for technology. Hey, in case you didn't notice, Xi Jinping
- 2:06:08Speaker 37: is coming to China. The United States is.
- 2:06:10Speaker 1: Going to be meeting in Washington.
- 2:06:12Speaker 37: I think that's remarkable. That's a great thing. It's like,
- 2:06:15Speaker 37: you know, when Trump went to China or wherever it
- 2:06:17Speaker 37: was and Putin, we need the world leaders to talk.
- 2:06:21Speaker 37: Some people will find a way to criticize it. I
- 2:06:23Speaker 37: think it's crazy. If you are a perceived enemy or
- 2:06:26Speaker 37: competitor and you are a world leader, what a good
- 2:06:29Speaker 37: thing it is, right, to sit down, have your team,
- 2:06:33Speaker 37: my team, and talk about it. Because wouldn't it be
- 2:06:35Speaker 37: great if everybody was working toward a world that was
- 2:06:38Speaker 37: successful and not be battling each other? They have so
- 2:06:41Speaker 37: many people, so many drones, their technology. You know, where
- 2:06:45Speaker 37: are we at with them? That's what CIA and others
- 2:06:48Speaker 37: are monitoring constantly. You know, we benefit here. We are
- 2:06:52Speaker 37: armed to the teeth in the defense industry. We're about
- 2:06:54Speaker 37: Sikorsky helicopters and GD nuclear submarines, right? So we do profit,
- 2:07:01Speaker 37: and we want to win. We want to win whatever
- 2:07:02Speaker 37: war is perceived out there, whether it's technology. We don't
- 2:07:06Speaker 37: want our men and women dying out there on some
- 2:07:09Speaker 37: foreign land.
- 2:07:10Speaker 1: We just don't want it. Well, and that's the thing
- 2:07:13Speaker 1: as far as I, you know, if you want a
- 2:07:18Speaker 1: slice of my life, which isn't a boar shrine or
- 2:07:20Speaker 1: the tears.
- 2:07:21Speaker 14: Yes.
- 2:07:23Speaker 1: Kathy, my wife, and I went to the, which I
- 2:07:25Speaker 1: think everybody should do. It's very easy for me to
- 2:07:27Speaker 1: sit behind this microphone and pontificate. We went to see
- 2:07:31Speaker 1: the movable Vietnam Wall in Putnam. I think it was
- 2:07:34Speaker 1: like once every 25 years. I haven't seen it. It's
- 2:07:37Speaker 1: really something, Judge.
- 2:07:38Speaker 5: Oh, boy.
- 2:07:38Speaker 1: And it's a small version, but it goes on, you know,
- 2:07:42Speaker 1: the length of a full-length ball field at least, you know,
- 2:07:46Speaker 1: figure 410 feet or something. And when I look at
- 2:07:50Speaker 1: the names of the kids that died in my town
- 2:07:53Speaker 1: and other places, and when I talk to the docents
- 2:07:56Speaker 1: who actually served in the war, I think I don't
- 2:08:00Speaker 1: ever want anybody to go through something like that again.
- 2:08:05Speaker 1: And really, what was the point of it? Interesting point
- 2:08:09Speaker 1: I had talking with a professor. former Marine, he said,
- 2:08:13Speaker 1: you know, the one thing we did do is we
- 2:08:16Speaker 1: introduced them to a better way of life for that.
- 2:08:19Speaker 1: But it's this thing of, to your point, I don't
- 2:08:21Speaker 1: want to see kids dying for no reason.
- 2:08:23Speaker 14: Yes.
- 2:08:23Speaker 37: You know, you mentioned the wall. When I was in Washington,
- 2:08:25Speaker 37: I mentioned this on social media. I went with my
- 2:08:27Speaker 37: kids and it was one of two experiences. And those
- 2:08:31Speaker 37: Christian believers, and I am one, I fell to my
- 2:08:34Speaker 37: knees weeping uncontrollably. I was overcome with grief. I only
- 2:08:38Speaker 37: had that experience one other time on the holy steps
- 2:08:41Speaker 37: in Rome the very steps on which Pilate condemned Christ.
- 2:08:45Speaker 37: And I got to tell you, it was a feeling.
- 2:08:48Speaker 37: It shook me to the core. And I haven't been
- 2:08:50Speaker 37: to New York yet, to the 9-11 memorial. I need
- 2:08:53Speaker 37: to go there. I need to go there.
- 2:08:56Speaker 1: So these are powerful messages.
- 2:08:57Speaker 37: We don't want to repeat past mistakes.
- 2:08:59Speaker 1: We certainly don't.
- 2:09:00Speaker 37: I don't think we'll have ground troops. The next war,
- 2:09:02Speaker 37: it's going to be waged with drones and missiles and
- 2:09:05Speaker 37: tomahawks and all the technology. We've used a lot of
- 2:09:08Speaker 37: technology in this conflict. And it's not over.
- 2:09:11Speaker 2: And it's still going on.
- 2:09:12Speaker 37: So let's hope we can finish this without the loss
- 2:09:16Speaker 37: of young men and women.
- 2:09:18Speaker 1: We're coming down to the wire. Anything else you want
- 2:09:20Speaker 1: to discuss?
- 2:09:20Speaker 37: No, just that, you know, coming out, it was going
- 2:09:22Speaker 37: to be election. It's like a month away, a month
- 2:09:25Speaker 37: and a half away.
- 2:09:27Speaker 1: And get out there and vote.
- 2:09:28Speaker 37: Some people, I think you can mail in ballots now, right?
- 2:09:30Speaker 37: Some people are voting. And make your voice heard. What
- 2:09:34Speaker 37: happens in Connecticut?
- 2:09:35Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 2:09:36Speaker 37: But I tell you, the Republicans are gaining ground. I
- 2:09:38Speaker 37: saw a poll the other day that Fazio was 14
- 2:09:42Speaker 37: points behind Governor Lamont. Did you see that bowl? That, wow,
- 2:09:46Speaker 37: scratch my head.
- 2:09:47Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 2:09:48Speaker 37: The second district in Connecticut, for those that don't know,
- 2:09:50Speaker 37: is like half the state. And if there's ever going
- 2:09:53Speaker 37: to be a red challenge, a Republican challenge, is this
- 2:09:57Speaker 37: the year? I pose that question rhetorically. You know, there's
- 2:10:00Speaker 37: a lot of support. And people are, I listened to
- 2:10:02Speaker 37: your prior segment. So you can find me at Nazaro
- 2:10:05Speaker 37: Law Incorporated. I specialize in personal injury and criminal litigation.

- 2:10:14Speaker 37: I'm not a Gen Z-er.
- 2:10:15Speaker 6: Or coffee.
- 2:10:16Speaker 2: Come out.
- 2:10:17Speaker 37: You know, we'll talk and go from there.
- 2:10:20Speaker 1: Thank you so much, Judge. Thank you for being here.

- 2:11:13Speaker 14: Come on now.

- 2:20:38Speaker 45: And the two-time MVP, three-time Super Bowl champ, did what
- 2:20:42Speaker 45: he's always done, led the Chiefs to a win. Mahomes

- 2:20:48Speaker 45: for another one in the Chiefs' 31-10 win over the

- 2:27:37Speaker 15: I'm doing just fine. Thank you so very much.
- 2:27:41Speaker 1: Well, thank you for asking. You know, it takes a
- 2:27:44Speaker 1: man of God to know what a man of God
- 2:27:46Speaker 1: is doing. I am, believe me, doing much better talking
- 2:27:51Speaker 1: to you. And I have so many people that want
- 2:27:54Speaker 1: to hear from you. And there's just a— we can talk
- 2:27:57Speaker 1: about the march against Mondami. Why don't you start with that?
- 2:28:01Speaker 15: Yeah, that was quite an event that took place this
- 2:28:05Speaker 15: past Friday. commemorating or commemoration of the 9-11 event, that
- 2:28:11Speaker 15: vicious attack by those vicious, if you will, cowardly Muslims
- 2:28:17Speaker 15: that attacked America, killing nearly 3,000 people right here in
- 2:28:22Speaker 15: New York City in the World Trade Center takedown. However,
- 2:28:29Speaker 15: that being understood, New York City has done something that
- 2:28:34Speaker 15: beyond most people's understanding by 25 years later electing a
- 2:28:42Speaker 15: Muslim mayor, and not just a Muslim with a name.
- 2:28:47Speaker 15: You know, I would have been probably less shocked if
- 2:28:54Speaker 15: Malcolm X was alive and they voted Malcolm X to
- 2:28:58Speaker 15: be mayor of New York City than this creep Mondani,
- 2:29:03Speaker 15: this intifada, this homage supporter, this jihadist, this infidel, if
- 2:29:12Speaker 15: you will, exterminator, Mondami. So we marched against him, and
- 2:29:19Speaker 15: we were very successful, very violent. Well, not violent in
- 2:29:22Speaker 15: the sense that I was injured or anybody else was injured,
- 2:29:25Speaker 15: but it was jam-packed with thousands of people opposing. But
- 2:29:31Speaker 15: we were able to get our message out. Mondami's got
- 2:29:34Speaker 15: to go.
- 2:29:36Speaker 1: What kind of, you know, believe me, I mean, I
- 2:29:40Speaker 1: grew up in Stanford, Connecticut. I worked in New York
- 2:29:42Speaker 1: for a lot of years. The past 10 or so
- 2:29:45Speaker 1: years I've been up this way. I'd listen to Curtis
- 2:29:48Speaker 1: Sliwa on the radio. He'd always be off about the
- 2:29:52Speaker 1: composition of the New York City Council. Your sentiment, which
- 2:29:58Speaker 1: I wholeheartedly agree with, I mean, how's that registering? You know,
- 2:30:02Speaker 1: Mondami's got to go.
- 2:30:05Speaker 15: Well, a large number of people are in agreement with it.
- 2:30:11Speaker 15: There's so many other things that are going on right
- 2:30:13Speaker 15: now that probably there's not 100 percent zero focus on
- 2:30:19Speaker 15: removing Mondavi. His voter group were young Gen Zers who
- 2:30:28Speaker 15: perhaps had very little experience, and most of them weren't
- 2:30:31Speaker 15: even born yet. in 9-11-2001. But there are a large
- 2:30:38Speaker 15: number of groups. I mean, there are whole communities that
- 2:30:41Speaker 15: have marched against him. There's a borough in New York,
- 2:30:44Speaker 15: if you're not aware, called Staten.
- 2:30:46Speaker 1: Island, with about 500,000 residents.
- 2:30:49Speaker 15: That they won't even let him on the island. I mean,
- 2:30:53Speaker 15: talking about lock stock in a group that just doesn't
- 2:30:56Speaker 15: like him. And I think that what's well, I wouldn't
- 2:31:02Speaker 15: say frightening, it's not frightening for me, but using the
- 2:31:05Speaker 15: language of some of the other New Yorkers, the fact
- 2:31:08Speaker 15: that there are prayer calls five times a day now
- 2:31:13Speaker 15: in New York City streets and schools, parks and public places,
- 2:31:20Speaker 15: where a year and a half ago it would have
- 2:31:23Speaker 15: been unthinkable to hear people That horrible sound. But you
- 2:31:34Speaker 15: hearing those sounds all over New York City now. And
- 2:31:38Speaker 15: Muslims are being emboldened because they've got this clown, Mondami,
- 2:31:46Speaker 15: as the mayor of New York City. And he's giving
- 2:31:48Speaker 15: them somewhat of protection. It's frightening. to use the language
- 2:31:55Speaker 15: of some of the others. But as for me, I
- 2:31:57Speaker 15: plan to see it moved. How soon will there be
- 2:32:00Speaker 15: a consortium of coalition of people to get him out
- 2:32:02Speaker 15: of there? That was the reason for our march, to
- 2:32:06Speaker 15: bring together people. And we're going to move the city
- 2:32:10Speaker 15: council legislature, legislators rather, to put forth a vote of
- 2:32:17Speaker 15: no confidence. New York City does not have a recall system.
- 2:32:22Speaker 1: We have the same thing here, the same issues.
- 2:32:26Speaker 15: So we want to get a vote of no confidence,
- 2:32:30Speaker 15: and from there, move him out of office, put him
- 2:32:33Speaker 15: in a position where he can't function anymore, and we'll
- 2:32:37Speaker 15: have to resign.
- 2:32:39Speaker 1: It's amazing to me how this happened in New York,
- 2:32:43Speaker 1: and when I look at New York, the one thing,
- 2:32:48Speaker 1: and how many years have you been in New York, Pastor?
- 2:32:51Speaker 15: I've been in New York 45 years.
- 2:32:53Speaker 1: Okay. So we go back contemporaneously. The one thing that
- 2:32:59Speaker 1: always impressed me about New York, and this is like
- 2:33:01Speaker 1: as a kid, as a kid going in on a
- 2:33:03Speaker 1: train to see a ball game. My father worked on Broadway.
- 2:33:07Speaker 1: I'm wearing his watch today, so I hope he's proud
- 2:33:10Speaker 1: of me. But that all being as it is, New
- 2:33:14Speaker 1: Yorkers always had a respect for each other and a
- 2:33:16Speaker 1: respect for each other's views. And out of all the cities,
- 2:33:20Speaker 1: when all the cities rioted in the cities, you know,
- 2:33:22Speaker 1: Detroit and Washington and Chicago and Newark was awful. New
- 2:33:28Speaker 1: York didn't have any riots. It was this thing of
- 2:33:30Speaker 1: we're New Yorkers. We respect each other. And now to
- 2:33:33Speaker 1: your point, it's this arrogance of you must follow the prayer.
- 2:33:37Speaker 1: You know, you are. And it's like there's there's nothing here.
- 2:33:41Speaker 1: But and it's just it. It breaks my heart to
- 2:33:43Speaker 1: see it.
- 2:33:45Speaker 15: New York is perhaps one of the most homogenous cities
- 2:33:48Speaker 15: on the planet, with so many different ethnic groups, rather
- 2:33:56Speaker 15: than racial groups, while that does exist as well. Probably,
- 2:34:00Speaker 15: I'm not sure that all historians would agree with me
- 2:34:04Speaker 15: on this matter and I would not be upset if
- 2:34:07Speaker 15: someone challenged me and said that I was misinformed. But
- 2:34:11Speaker 15: I want to tell you that I've been in New
- 2:34:13Speaker 15: York for 45 years, and I've watched the transition of
- 2:34:17Speaker 15: New York and the various groups come and go. And
- 2:34:22Speaker 15: you're right. When the riots were taking place in Detroit
- 2:34:26Speaker 15: and Newark and Washington, New York was relatively calm. time.
- 2:34:33Speaker 15: And the thing that I think most people will want
- 2:34:35Speaker 15: to challenge me, and I will not be offended or
- 2:34:37Speaker 15: upset if they challenge me, is that there's a large
- 2:34:41Speaker 15: Jewish population in New York that was pretty much touching
- 2:34:47Speaker 15: base with all of the ethnic groups within New York City,
- 2:34:51Speaker 15: especially 45 years ago in Harlem. And so as a
- 2:34:54Speaker 15: result of that, there was a sense of family, there
- 2:34:58Speaker 15: was a sense of community, there was a sense of
- 2:35:02Speaker 15: that we were New Yorkers, and we were proud to
- 2:35:05Speaker 15: be New Yorkers. That's not the case anymore.
- 2:35:08Speaker 7: Not at all.
- 2:35:09Speaker 3: Not at all.
- 2:35:10Speaker 1: We're talking with Pastor James David Manning. Believe it or not,
- 2:35:15Speaker 1: we're getting to the point where we're running out of time.
- 2:35:18Speaker 1: We need to have you back here. Where does the pastor,
- 2:35:22Speaker 1: where does the ministry, what can we look to see
- 2:35:26Speaker 1: in the future? Because let me tell you, it's an
- 2:35:28Speaker 1: honor to be speaking with you, and You've got a
- 2:35:31Speaker 1: ton of fans out here, Pastor.
- 2:35:35Speaker 15: Thank you so much. I'm honored by that. I have
- 2:35:39Speaker 15: to tell my grandfather and my father down in North Carolina,
- 2:35:42Speaker 15: they're both deceased now, and I pray that they're happy
- 2:35:44Speaker 15: and proud with me, and especially my grandmother, that people
- 2:35:48Speaker 15: are listening to their grandson. I always looked at my
- 2:35:54Speaker 15: elders as being what really elder people. I never see
- 2:35:58Speaker 15: myself that way. However, I do want to say clearly
- 2:36:02Speaker 15: that I believe what you're expressing, that people are listening
- 2:36:07Speaker 15: to me, and people of all stripes, to use an identity,
- 2:36:13Speaker 15: that we're going to be able to bring about a
- 2:36:15Speaker 15: unity that I don't think America has seen or had
- 2:36:20Speaker 15: in a very long time. It's not because of me
- 2:36:25Speaker 15: that this unity is going to happen. I see it
- 2:36:28Speaker 15: taking place. I mean, people are talking to me that
- 2:36:31Speaker 15: I never thought. People who once didn't think so much
- 2:36:34Speaker 15: about me and never paid me any attention now find
- 2:36:37Speaker 15: that perhaps my voice is important. And I believe that
- 2:36:42Speaker 15: you're going to see a unity within some time to come,
- 2:36:47Speaker 15: not desperately enough where it will fail when it does come,
- 2:36:51Speaker 15: like you've never seen before in America, especially among the race.
- 2:36:55Speaker 1: I'll be joining arms with you, my friend, and we
- 2:36:58Speaker 1: are going to have you back. Your wife, Elizabeth, is
- 2:37:03Speaker 1: an absolute doll. It was a joy to speak with her,
- 2:37:06Speaker 1: and thank you so much. And when is service time?
- 2:37:10Speaker 1: Because we have a lot of people listening down in
- 2:37:12Speaker 1: New York.
- 2:37:13Speaker 15: Well, we worship on Saturday. We remember the Sabbath day
- 2:37:18Speaker 15: and keep it holy, and We assemble at 11 o'clock
- 2:37:22Speaker 15: on Saturday, and whenever the Lord lets us get out
- 2:37:25Speaker 15: is when we get out. But we start at 11
- 2:37:26Speaker 15: on Saturday.
- 2:37:28Speaker 39: Amen.
- 2:37:29Speaker 1: I love it. The church as it's designed to be. Pastor,
- 2:37:33Speaker 1: you have a great day. Thank you so much for
- 2:37:35Speaker 1: being here today, and we will have you back, man.
- 2:37:38Speaker 1: Thanks so much.
- 2:37:39Speaker 15: God bless you for having me.
- 2:37:40Speaker 1: I appreciate it.
- 2:37:42Speaker 2: What an honor.
- 2:37:43Speaker 15: Thank you.
- 2:37:43Speaker 1: Thank you. Pastor James David Manning. Well, coming up to
