- 1:18Speaker 1: Yeah, that's every morning.
- 1:20Speaker 3: We gonna give your business a little bit. It's that cool.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Yeah, Man, ain't nothing you can't ask me. I ain't ain't.
- 1:26Speaker 1: I ain't got no how good bad, no bad skeletons
- 1:30Speaker 1: that I need to have one at about me and
- 1:33Speaker 1: what I got going in my life. My grandma said, somebody,
- 1:36Speaker 1: if you need to hide it, then you don't need
- 1:37Speaker 1: to do it. Okay.
- 1:39Speaker 7: Related birthday in February.
- 1:42Speaker 1: It was March to seventh Mar seven.
- 1:45Speaker 7: Very cool, your season, what you do for your birthday?
- 1:48Speaker 1: I just chilled at the house. I ain't. I ain't
- 1:49Speaker 1: too big on staying on my birthday around people that
- 1:52Speaker 1: ain't in my everyday life. Like that's a day that
- 1:55Speaker 1: I think I supposed to spend around the people who
- 1:57Speaker 1: mean the most to me, which is my son, my
- 2:00Speaker 1: significant other, you know, the people who who there for
- 2:03Speaker 1: me every day. That's who I celebrate my life with.
- 2:05Speaker 1: I find it kind of goofy to go celebrate your
- 2:08Speaker 1: life with a bunch of people that ain't helping your
- 2:10Speaker 1: life and ain't around you throughout your life daily. You know,
- 2:14Speaker 1: that's something that I take as a private thing. You
- 2:17Speaker 1: feel me. I don't even make posters or nothing like that.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I be seeing people say it's my birthday. I'm like
- 2:22Speaker 1: you asking to be celebrated, you know, for my birthday.
- 2:25Speaker 1: I just that's a it's a it's a it's a
- 2:27Speaker 1: sentimental value with that, you.
- 2:29Speaker 7: Know, let's talk about those values. You know, going back
- 2:31Speaker 7: to the street for Louisiana, which is where you're from
- 2:34Speaker 7: growing up. You know, what was it like for Chris
- 2:37Speaker 7: before Hurricane Chris?
- 2:39Speaker 1: Yeah, Chris my real name. I'm a junior. My son
- 2:42Speaker 1: named Chris too. My daddy named Chris. A lot of
- 2:45Speaker 1: Chris going on, straight up, straight up man, Streetport crazy.
- 2:50Speaker 1: I ain't gonna lie. Streetport is like that's my hometown.
- 2:53Speaker 1: But it's been real gangstand Streetport for a real long
- 2:58Speaker 1: time since I could remember. Like my dad in them
- 3:02Speaker 1: was with the shit. Like I used to hear them
- 3:04Speaker 1: talking about missions that they just went on when they
- 3:06Speaker 1: came in a house. So I could lie to you
- 3:09Speaker 1: and tell you it's been peaches and cream and I
- 3:11Speaker 1: grew up like the fresh prince bell out, but I'd
- 3:13Speaker 1: be lying, Okay, it really was. It was. It was.
- 3:16Speaker 1: It was a treacherous town, and I think I witnessed
- 3:18Speaker 1: a lot of stuff I a kid should have never witnessed,
- 3:21Speaker 1: you know, Like I really was right in the mix.
- 3:24Speaker 1: At at three years old, I was watching my dad
- 3:27Speaker 1: they break down a whole key on the table right
- 3:30Speaker 1: in front of me, and by the age of five,
- 3:33Speaker 1: I knew what it was and I was repeating it
- 3:35Speaker 1: to my mama and my daddy was whooping me. So
- 3:37Speaker 1: it's like I grew up writing a mixed of some
- 3:40Speaker 1: some real deal street you know type cats.
- 3:44Speaker 7: Did it affect your your upbringing in any kind of way.
- 3:47Speaker 7: Did your dad go to jail or anything?
- 3:49Speaker 1: Yeah, he did four and a half years, but it
- 3:52Speaker 1: was over marijuana. It wasn't over what they you know,
- 3:54Speaker 1: really was doing. He he he did four and a
- 3:57Speaker 1: half years over marijuana. So it it. It definitely affected me.
- 4:03Speaker 1: It taught me to It helped me as well though
- 4:06Speaker 1: in some positive ways, because I'm well of my surroundings.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Like when I'm in my house, I watch everything that's
- 4:13Speaker 1: going on, and I don't sleep deep like all of
- 4:16Speaker 1: these is some conditioning from growing up inside the trap house.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Like well, I wouldn't say trap house, but in a
- 4:23Speaker 1: house where they really did a lot of you know,
- 4:26Speaker 1: illegal activities.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Just a certain environment.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I grew up in that environment. So at the
- 4:31Speaker 1: age of probably five, my daddy used to give me
- 4:33Speaker 1: the strap, take everything out of it, and tell me
- 4:36Speaker 1: wash the dough. It got to the point where when
- 4:38Speaker 1: all his friends came in, they unloaded they straps and
- 4:42Speaker 1: handed it to me too, and they used to laugh
- 4:44Speaker 1: at the fact that I used to like the hold
- 4:45Speaker 1: of straps. And this was this was probably before the
- 4:47Speaker 1: age of five, It's probably four years old. So I
- 4:51Speaker 1: was sitting on the couch with three or four tools,
- 4:54Speaker 1: watching the door, like thinking, I'm doing what my daddy
- 4:57Speaker 1: told me to do. And still to this day, I
- 4:59Speaker 1: watched the door anywhere I go, I'm watching the door
- 5:03Speaker 1: if your home, well, walking here right now, he could
- 5:05Speaker 1: be here for you, but I'm gonna look at him
- 5:07Speaker 1: up and down because he's stepping into his own way
- 5:09Speaker 1: close enough.
- 5:10Speaker 4: To when you walk there, you lift me up and
- 5:13Speaker 4: down before you shut my hand.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I gotta make sure. You got to make sure
- 5:16Speaker 1: your pockets empty, ain't nothing, You ain't reaching for nothing,
- 5:19Speaker 1: like I'm conditioned like that.
- 5:20Speaker 3: So you did give me a pause, then yeah, I
- 5:23Speaker 3: gotta make.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Sure everything is good. When somebody get close enough to
- 5:26Speaker 1: do something to you, then it's done. So you gotta
- 5:29Speaker 1: you gotta be scanning what's going on before somebody could
- 5:32Speaker 1: even you know, get that close so or have enough time.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Sometimes it come off as being rude, but when a
- 5:37Speaker 1: person walk up to me and speak, the first thing
- 5:39Speaker 1: I'm doing is looking down at they waist band in
- 5:41Speaker 1: their pockets before I even respond. And it's just from
- 5:44Speaker 1: growing up in that environment.
- 5:45Speaker 8: Where was your mom att in this at this time?
- 5:48Speaker 8: Like when you were.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Doing all this, my mama was right there telling my
- 5:51Speaker 1: dad and no, don't do that, and he was like,
- 5:53Speaker 1: shut up.
- 5:55Speaker 3: What did your mom do for work? Like what is
- 5:57Speaker 3: your mom?
- 5:57Speaker 1: My? Daddy put her in to school and after that
- 6:02Speaker 1: she got a beauty shop. Okay, she had a couple
- 6:04Speaker 1: of beauty.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Shops, and your dad was just outside.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Outside he would but he was he was. He was
- 6:10Speaker 1: a different type of dude. Like besides protecting myself and
- 6:15Speaker 1: everything around me, he ain't allowed me to to indulge
- 6:20Speaker 1: in nothing. Else and he he. He always used to
- 6:23Speaker 1: preach to me like this ain't what you want to
- 6:24Speaker 1: do now. They would hand me their straps and tell
- 6:29Speaker 1: me to hold them. But if you fired up some
- 6:32Speaker 1: gas in front of me, you might get stumped. It
- 6:35Speaker 1: was all about respect. Like if one of his homeboys
- 6:38Speaker 1: came around me and lit some up, it was a
- 6:41Speaker 1: wrap for him. I'm talking about bad. It would go
- 6:43Speaker 1: bad right down on the spot. I gotta literally watched
- 6:46Speaker 1: my dad almost get rid of people for walking in
- 6:49Speaker 1: my prisons and indulging in drugs.
- 6:51Speaker 4: So that had to affect you when you were in
- 6:52Speaker 4: school too, So like you know, when you went to school.
- 6:55Speaker 4: How how how was Hurricane Chris in school?
- 6:58Speaker 1: In school? I mean, like I tell you, he taught
- 7:02Speaker 1: me the right things as well. So it wasn't like
- 7:06Speaker 1: he raised me to just be stupid. He just raised
- 7:08Speaker 1: me to be aware of my surroundings and protect myself.
- 7:11Speaker 1: So when it came to school, my dadd didn't play
- 7:13Speaker 1: no games. A lot of my aunts on my dad's
- 7:16Speaker 1: side of the family was in the educational system. Both
- 7:19Speaker 1: of my antis drive school buses. I got two twin
- 7:22Speaker 1: teachers in my family, that's twin sisters. They daddy was
- 7:27Speaker 1: in the educational system. So that's something that we ain't
- 7:31Speaker 1: never play no games about. And he ain't never played
- 7:33Speaker 1: with me about no education. Like I had to come
- 7:35Speaker 1: home do my homework, I had to be in the
- 7:38Speaker 1: house before the street lights came on. So he ain't
- 7:40Speaker 1: raised me to be stupid. He just I grew up around,
- 7:44Speaker 1: you know, some stuff that he was forced to be
- 7:47Speaker 1: a part of because he had to provide for his family.
- 7:50Speaker 1: And it ain't like he had another house he could
- 7:52Speaker 1: send me to. You know, back in the gap, it
- 7:54Speaker 1: was different.
- 7:55Speaker 3: It was like the gap, what's the gap?
- 7:57Speaker 1: Back in the day. In the day, like your spot
- 8:00Speaker 1: was your spot, your family was right there with you,
- 8:04Speaker 1: you know. So I just had the witness a lot
- 8:06Speaker 1: coming up.
- 8:07Speaker 5: Now was the neighborhood that you grew up in.
- 8:12Speaker 1: It was treacherous, it was. I grew up in Seedar Grove,
- 8:15Speaker 1: it was. It was a hell of a neighborhood. Like
- 8:18Speaker 1: I'd be outside playing one minute and then I see
- 8:21Speaker 1: a car pull up. Three dudes hang out the window
- 8:24Speaker 1: and they light the house up across the street, you know,
- 8:26Speaker 1: and like the house to the left of that, they
- 8:30Speaker 1: went to the gas station, came back, and almost everybody
- 8:34Speaker 1: got killed except the mama. You know what I'm saying.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Like kids I used to play with, they mama took
- 8:39Speaker 1: them to the gas station and they was they was
- 8:41Speaker 1: killed their corner stoves, and like it really was a
- 8:45Speaker 1: treacherous neighborhood. I can remember so many nights of me
- 8:48Speaker 1: and my cousins playing in the living room on the
- 8:50Speaker 1: floor and and half of the hide on the beds
- 8:53Speaker 1: when we hear gunshots going off. Like I really grew
- 8:56Speaker 1: up in that type of neighborhood, you know, So it
- 9:00Speaker 1: is what it is.
- 9:01Speaker 7: You know, you start rapping at ten years old, that's
- 9:03Speaker 7: like fifth grade facts and yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 9:07Speaker 7: what got you into rap?
- 9:10Speaker 1: I ended the high school talent show with some cats
- 9:13Speaker 1: that was like around the corner from me, some older cats.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I always hung with older kids. I ain't never hung
- 9:18Speaker 1: with kids my age and my entire life. I got
- 9:21Speaker 1: one friend that was like two years younger than me,
- 9:24Speaker 1: but he was way more advanced than me. So that's
- 9:26Speaker 1: the only person. But I got in the rap because
- 9:28Speaker 1: I ended the high school competition with some high school
- 9:30Speaker 1: cats and we were in first place, and everybody said
- 9:33Speaker 1: it was because me, so stayed across the street from
- 9:36Speaker 1: the high school. Everybody came to my house and after
- 9:38Speaker 1: they got out of high school. I got out of
- 9:40Speaker 1: middle school elementary at two thirty two o'clock, so they
- 9:44Speaker 1: came to my house, and you know, they used to
- 9:46Speaker 1: stand in front of my house and tell me to rap.
- 9:47Speaker 1: So I just got popular in my neighborhood for rapping
- 9:50Speaker 1: before I can even, you know, understand what was going on.
- 9:54Speaker 7: Where did the name Hurricane Chris come from?
- 9:56Speaker 1: When I first started rapping, I used to rap real fast.
- 9:58Speaker 1: I ain't never rapped slow. I was like I used
- 10:00Speaker 1: to listen to Twister Bone.
- 10:01Speaker 2: I was just about the same twistler.
- 10:03Speaker 1: You know. I really listened to them a whole lot.
- 10:05Speaker 1: So I took after that. That's what helped me win
- 10:07Speaker 1: in high school competition.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Too, because they didn't know what you were saying.
- 10:12Speaker 1: I just know he was saying a lot, but I
- 10:15Speaker 1: was able to break it down and let you understand
- 10:17Speaker 1: it too. You know. Yeah, I was painting some immaculate
- 10:21Speaker 1: rhymes at a young age.
- 10:22Speaker 7: So you go to high school and you drop out
- 10:25Speaker 7: at sixteen?
- 10:26Speaker 8: What led to that decision?
- 10:29Speaker 1: My mama just felt like it wasn't working because I
- 10:31Speaker 1: was getting Yeah, I was getting in so much trouble,
- 10:35Speaker 1: and she felt like it just wasn't working. So she
- 10:38Speaker 1: put me in I had to go to our alternative school,
- 10:43Speaker 1: and then I go back to regular school, and then
- 10:45Speaker 1: I get in trouble again and have to go back
- 10:47Speaker 1: to our alternative school. So she was like, you know what,
- 10:49Speaker 1: you just need to get your GED. So she sent
- 10:51Speaker 1: me back to the same alternative school to get my
- 10:53Speaker 1: GD and that was the end of school for you.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Always were rapping, yeah, yeah, yeah, took of the moment.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Yeah yeah. And I think that that got me a
- 11:01Speaker 1: lot of haters as well, you know, because I was
- 11:04Speaker 1: different from everybody else. I had something that a lot
- 11:06Speaker 1: of people didn't have.
- 11:07Speaker 2: So how did you.
- 11:08Speaker 4: Stay alive and stay out of trouble? Because this neighborhood
- 11:13Speaker 4: growing up from you, growing up for you is a
- 11:15Speaker 4: lot that you're dealing with. You seeing death and murder
- 11:18Speaker 4: and drug transactions and paraform. Then you'd see in all
- 11:21Speaker 4: these things, how does this hurricane Chris stay alive, stay free?
- 11:26Speaker 1: So I could tell you that it was me watching
- 11:28Speaker 1: my surroundings, and I could tell you that it was
- 11:30Speaker 1: me being on point, but bigger than anything My grandmother's
- 11:34Speaker 1: was Christians, both of them, and like the type of
- 11:38Speaker 1: people that pray for you and make your whole life
- 11:40Speaker 1: change anything that's going on, Like when they lay hands
- 11:42Speaker 1: on you. It's serious. So I had some real, real, real, real,
- 11:46Speaker 1: real religious grandparents. Like one of them, I had asthma
- 11:49Speaker 1: growing up. One of them drew measurements on a cabinet
- 11:52Speaker 1: and told me, when you reached this height, asthma gonna
- 11:55Speaker 1: leave your body. I stood under these measurements every day,
- 11:57Speaker 1: and when I reached this certain level on the ruler
- 12:01Speaker 1: on the on the measurements, asthma had left my body.
- 12:03Speaker 1: So spiritual healing and and God watching over me, like
- 12:09Speaker 1: I think that's the biggest thing that brought me out
- 12:11Speaker 1: of my situation. God, you know, felt like I had
- 12:14Speaker 1: I had something to offer to the world, and I
- 12:16Speaker 1: guess he just he kept his hand over me and
- 12:19Speaker 1: made sure I was able to, you know, make it
- 12:21Speaker 1: out of the craziness.
- 12:22Speaker 5: What period of time where your music started taking off
- 12:25Speaker 5: when you just started taking it serious, like, man, I
- 12:27Speaker 5: think I can really do something with this.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Man.
- 12:29Speaker 1: I was on the road touring by the time I
- 12:31Speaker 1: hit I would say, like fourteen, around like two.
- 12:38Speaker 3: So a Ba Bay didn't come out yet at all.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Nah nah, I was lit way before Ababay. I was
- 12:42Speaker 1: already on the road touring getting two thousand dollars twenty
- 12:46Speaker 1: five hundred a show, Iang got fifteen and like two
- 12:49Speaker 1: thousand and five, two thousand and four, two thousand and six,
- 12:53Speaker 1: you know, I mean I was already on the road
- 12:56Speaker 1: a couple of years before Ababaye even dropped. I got
- 12:58Speaker 1: my deal in like two thousand and then my first
- 13:01Speaker 1: record deal was in with two thousand and seven, which
- 13:04Speaker 1: was when.
- 13:04Speaker 8: You were sixteen as well, when.
- 13:05Speaker 1: You get it out. Yeah, yeah, yeah, but I was.
- 13:08Speaker 1: I was already on the road, and that was another
- 13:10Speaker 1: reason why you know, I feel like I right, I
- 13:13Speaker 1: could come back and handle this school stuff later. Right now,
- 13:15Speaker 1: I got a blessing. My mama got eviction notices on
- 13:18Speaker 1: her door. I'm finna chase this rap bag right now.
- 13:22Speaker 3: And where was dad? Was dad locked up at this
- 13:24Speaker 3: particular time?
- 13:24Speaker 1: Yeah, my daddy was locked up? And yeah yeah, so
- 13:28Speaker 1: it was like I had to man up and do
- 13:30Speaker 1: grown man activities. I had to provide for my mama
- 13:33Speaker 1: because we was going under real fast at a at
- 13:36Speaker 1: a fast pace. You know, she lost her beauty shop
- 13:39Speaker 1: eviction notice on the door where we live at so.
- 13:42Speaker 8: She was also divorced at this time.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Yeah, they was divorced and he was locked up.
- 13:46Speaker 3: So did that bother you too?
- 13:48Speaker 1: Yeah? It bothered me because I grew up in the
- 13:49Speaker 1: house with my mama and my daddy. So you know,
- 13:52Speaker 1: when when that happened, I was kind of you know,
- 13:54Speaker 1: I was missed up in the head about it. But
- 13:56Speaker 1: and the way I I kind of got over it.
- 13:59Speaker 1: I got over it because I seen it. You know,
- 14:01Speaker 1: they really didn't get along, so I kind of was
- 14:04Speaker 1: happy at the same time that they we didn't have
- 14:06Speaker 1: to go through the turmoil with them arguing, you know.
- 14:09Speaker 1: So I mean, like I say, like when I got
- 14:13Speaker 1: my deal, my daddy was locked up, so he wasn't
- 14:15Speaker 1: here to see none of that. But I picked him up,
- 14:17Speaker 1: you know, when he got out and everything was lit,
- 14:20Speaker 1: I had to go that bag. Now I probably had
- 14:23Speaker 1: like a I had just signed the deal, so I
- 14:26Speaker 1: hadn't even really got into the bag like that yet.
- 14:28Speaker 1: I probably had signed an entertainment deal with College Park
- 14:32Speaker 1: and then they was taking me to Jay Records to
- 14:34Speaker 1: get the major deal. Oh okay, so the bag hadn't
- 14:37Speaker 1: here yet. You understand what I'm saying. So I think
- 14:40Speaker 1: I had like a dodging trippet, and so.
- 14:42Speaker 2: It was a Baybay already out before you signed.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Yeah, a Babay was out like a year before I signed.
- 14:47Speaker 8: Which made College Park come for you.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Yeah, College Park flew to street party.
- 14:52Speaker 4: You made that for uh uh big dog in.
- 14:58Speaker 3: Uh what's his name?
- 14:59Speaker 2: Baby baby?
- 15:00Speaker 1: To be honest, I made it because I felt like
- 15:02Speaker 1: it was gonna blow. And that's why you hear me
- 15:05Speaker 1: in the song saying white folks, gangsters and the thugs
- 15:09Speaker 1: stunning with a stack of them dubs riding in Alec
- 15:12Speaker 1: with a mug. So I wanted to make it. I
- 15:15Speaker 1: wanted to make it worldwide, versatile for anybody, because I
- 15:19Speaker 1: knew everybody wasn't gonna know.
- 15:20Speaker 3: You had him in mind.
- 15:22Speaker 1: I had him in mind when I when I heard
- 15:25Speaker 1: it in the club, when I heard people saying it.
- 15:28Speaker 1: But then I was like, I can make this bigger.
- 15:29Speaker 1: I can make this something that the world can exces.
- 15:31Speaker 2: So you changed the lyrics on it.
- 15:33Speaker 1: I didn't change the lyrics. I changed the meaning. Oh god, yeah, yeah,
- 15:39Speaker 1: yeah yeah.
- 15:39Speaker 3: So did you ever go see him DJ?
- 15:42Speaker 1: Yeah? I was in the club when I first heard
- 15:44Speaker 1: people saying it, and he was djaying. But when I
- 15:46Speaker 1: heard that, I was like, I can make this world wide.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I can make this something that the whole world can understand.
- 15:51Speaker 3: It was a chance that already was happening.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Yeah, they was chanting it in the club.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Okay, so that's where you got the idea from.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Yeah, so yeah, yeah, I just felt like, you know,
- 16:00Speaker 1: I could, I could really make the world rock with this,
- 16:03Speaker 1: because if I would have kept it like that, then
- 16:04Speaker 1: they would have been like, who is he talking about?
- 16:06Speaker 1: What is he talking about? So I had to play
- 16:08Speaker 1: chess you know what I'm saying and make the world
- 16:10Speaker 1: be able to understand what I was talking about. If
- 16:12Speaker 1: you're riding in a lack with a mug, say Bay Bay,
- 16:14Speaker 1: you want to know what we say in the club,
- 16:16Speaker 1: A Bay Bay? You got a stack of them dubs?
- 16:19Speaker 1: Avay Vaye like, now.
- 16:20Speaker 3: What was babet? Because he from Texas? Correct me if
- 16:23Speaker 3: I'm wrong? Right?
- 16:24Speaker 1: Nah? When I made the A Bay Bay song, that
- 16:26Speaker 1: allowed him to go get that Texas situation, which you
- 16:31Speaker 1: ain't gonna never hear him talk about. He ain't never
- 16:33Speaker 1: gonna say thank you. The hurricane forget helping me get
- 16:35Speaker 1: all the way in Texas. He was in street Port, Louisiana,
- 16:37Speaker 1: at a radio station that don't even exist no more.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Basically God. So if I wouldn't have made the song,
- 16:45Speaker 1: I don't know where he would be. But I know
- 16:47Speaker 1: when I went to Dallas, they told me, even if
- 16:49Speaker 1: the radio station in Dallas told me, how do you
- 16:51Speaker 1: feel about helping him get this job?
- 16:53Speaker 3: You know?
- 16:54Speaker 1: So that's what it is.
- 16:56Speaker 2: So what's our relationship like now?
- 16:58Speaker 1: I ain't got no relationship with him. When I got
- 17:00Speaker 1: out and burnt it out, I hit him up and
- 17:01Speaker 1: told him I need him to help me make some moves.
- 17:03Speaker 1: He told me he wasn't rocking with music. I told him, well,
- 17:06Speaker 1: I told him exactly how I feel like. I'm fighting
- 17:09Speaker 1: a second degree attempted murder charge and I'm telling you
- 17:13Speaker 1: I need you to make something happen for me, and
- 17:15Speaker 1: you're giving me excuses. So it wasn't nothing else for
- 17:18Speaker 1: me to say to him. After that. I was at
- 17:20Speaker 1: a point where I was fighting for my freedom, I
- 17:22Speaker 1: was fighting life, So anybody who ain't had my back
- 17:25Speaker 1: to help me make the moves I needed to help.
- 17:27Speaker 1: During that time, I raced them out of my life completely,
- 17:30Speaker 1: your number one block. You know what I'm saying, I
- 17:33Speaker 1: don't care nothing. I'm gonna get some money regardless. I
- 17:35Speaker 1: don't care nothing about nobody who ain't here for me.
- 17:38Speaker 1: You understand what I'm saying. It's just I'm gonna keep
- 17:40Speaker 1: it all the way real. The industry ain't gonna make
- 17:42Speaker 1: me fake with you. I come from a real place,
- 17:46Speaker 1: you know. And I had been told him, let's stop
- 17:48Speaker 1: acting like we're rocking with each other anyway, because you
- 17:51Speaker 1: ain't really got my best interest. You ain't really trying
- 17:54Speaker 1: to trying to help me make no moves regardless. And
- 17:57Speaker 1: my song is the song that got you this job
- 18:00Speaker 1: out here in Dallas. If I put you in a
- 18:01Speaker 1: position and then you see me take a fall, you're
- 18:04Speaker 1: supposed to do everything in your power to pull me
- 18:06Speaker 1: back up. And he just never did that and never
- 18:09Speaker 1: had the realness in him and used to say stuff like,
- 18:12Speaker 1: you know, I don't care about being real no more.
- 18:13Speaker 1: And once I started hearing this type of talk, I
- 18:16Speaker 1: realized that he ain't had a type of character that
- 18:18Speaker 1: I was willing to surround myself around. And like, I
- 18:21Speaker 1: got a son, I want my son to see the
- 18:23Speaker 1: type of people that I involved myself with, and I
- 18:26Speaker 1: want him to learn to involve hisself with real people
- 18:28Speaker 1: who got his back throughout life, you know, so I
- 18:31Speaker 1: can't teach a lesson through dealing with people who ain't
- 18:34Speaker 1: keeping it real. Now.
- 18:35Speaker 4: I don't know Hollywood Babay like that, but I met
- 18:38Speaker 4: him a few times. Now do you think there's any
- 18:39Speaker 4: miscommunication on his part that he may feel different than
- 18:42Speaker 4: how you feel?
- 18:43Speaker 7: And just for clarity, Hollywood Babay is a.
- 18:46Speaker 9: DJ DJ radio personality, Doull, how much miscommunication can it
- 18:51Speaker 9: be if I help you get this job at I
- 18:53Speaker 9: Heart Radio because I made a song mentioning your name,
- 18:58Speaker 9: and then you see me go through some stuff and
- 18:59Speaker 9: life and.
- 19:00Speaker 1: You don't do everything in your power to pull me
- 19:03Speaker 1: out of the situation. Even when I got into it
- 19:05Speaker 1: with my record label that I was signed, what I
- 19:07Speaker 1: called him and told him, hey, I need you to
- 19:09Speaker 1: reach out and let him know this what they're doing
- 19:10Speaker 1: ain't right. You know what he told me. I ain't
- 19:12Speaker 1: getting in it because I want to still be able
- 19:15Speaker 1: to go back to the label and still be able
- 19:17Speaker 1: to do business with him. But you the one who
- 19:20Speaker 1: introduced me to these people, you the one who told me, hey,
- 19:23Speaker 1: sign this deal, just sign it. I'm telling you, I
- 19:25Speaker 1: got your best interest sign this. But when it went
- 19:28Speaker 1: bad and I told him I need you to jump
- 19:29Speaker 1: in here with me and help, he ain't do that.
- 19:31Speaker 1: He told me he ain't getting involved in That's a
- 19:34Speaker 1: snake to me, And you could look at it however
- 19:37Speaker 1: you want to look at it. If you got more
- 19:39Speaker 1: as a principles about yourself, then you understand what a
- 19:42Speaker 1: snake is.
- 19:43Speaker 7: So when you first got your deal with John or
- 19:46Speaker 7: with J Records, you asked him for advice and he
- 19:49Speaker 7: advised you to take the deal.
- 19:50Speaker 1: He set the meeting up at his radio station and
- 19:54Speaker 1: brought all the label people to a room at the
- 19:59Speaker 1: radio station. I'm like a kid, I'm sixteen, So everything
- 20:04Speaker 1: they saying just sound like a bunch of you know
- 20:06Speaker 1: what I'm saying, Like, I don't think I know it's
- 20:08Speaker 1: out on to rap y'all thirty some years old. I'm
- 20:11Speaker 1: looking for y'all to help me, you know, guid me
- 20:13Speaker 1: into making the best decision. So at one point I
- 20:18Speaker 1: wasn't about to sign it, and they seen it, so
- 20:21Speaker 1: he kep talk to me outside the room, like, man,
- 20:24Speaker 1: just sign this, I got your best interest, just do
- 20:26Speaker 1: it because he knew what it was gonna do for him,
- 20:28Speaker 1: which is why he still got the job that he
- 20:30Speaker 1: got right now, you know, so some people are out
- 20:33Speaker 1: for theyself, and that's just what that was. You could
- 20:37Speaker 1: ask my whole city Street, Port Louisiana. They vouch for
- 20:39Speaker 1: everything I'm saying. They gonna tell you what I'm saying.
- 20:41Speaker 1: They gonna say he ain't look out for camp.
- 20:44Speaker 7: So Ababay's out and you're signed with Jay Records.
- 20:49Speaker 8: The song is.
- 20:49Speaker 7: Everywhere like crazy. What was life like in that time?
- 20:55Speaker 7: I know, you know, you were kind of uncertain about
- 20:57Speaker 7: certain things, but you know, just for the moment the
- 21:00Speaker 7: success of the record, what was life like?
- 21:03Speaker 1: I had resentment and I was happy at the same
- 21:05Speaker 1: time because I couldn't stop thinking about the fact that
- 21:09Speaker 1: I kind of was talked into this situation, I was
- 21:12Speaker 1: cohurst into.
- 21:13Speaker 3: This situation is blowing up and you're upset. I would
- 21:16Speaker 3: never have.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Guessed that I would send me the label they send
- 21:20Speaker 1: me the meetings with I'm sitting at the table with
- 21:22Speaker 1: a shunty and Nelly eating dinner, and I got a
- 21:25Speaker 1: scrooge look on my face. To the point where the
- 21:27Speaker 1: label walked me out of the room, like, Yo, what's
- 21:29Speaker 1: wrong with you? I'm like, bro, I gotta you don't understand,
- 21:33Speaker 1: like I ain't sure about this whole situation still.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Because you don't even know what you signed.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Basically, you feel me like like, I'm still I ain't
- 21:42Speaker 1: sure about this whole situation. So I couldn't fake no happiness.
- 21:45Speaker 1: You understand what I'm saying, Like you would have thought
- 21:48Speaker 1: I would have just been psyched out and happy when
- 21:50Speaker 1: we flew to New York for the first time. We
- 21:53Speaker 1: flew to New York for the first time, they shut
- 21:56Speaker 1: down a restaurant for us to eat. Shout out to
- 21:58Speaker 1: Brian Leech. They shut down a whole restaurant for us
- 22:01Speaker 1: to eat. I ain't eat nothing. I'm in it looking
- 22:04Speaker 1: like baby was way more happier than me. And that's
- 22:08Speaker 1: what man as. Where I'm at now, I can think, Okay, yeah,
- 22:13Speaker 1: I know why he was happier than me because he
- 22:15Speaker 1: was thinking about how to position himself. You know, So
- 22:18Speaker 1: did he.
- 22:19Speaker 8: Get more money than you?
- 22:20Speaker 1: Nah, he wasn't even in on a deal.
- 22:22Speaker 5: You just talking about the leverage of bringing you in
- 22:24Speaker 5: there as talent to leverage his opportunity.
- 22:27Speaker 1: And if he was smart, he would a bird man
- 22:29Speaker 1: the situation. He would have masterpeded the situation. He would
- 22:33Speaker 1: have made show we got a distribution deal. But he
- 22:35Speaker 1: was so quickly being greedy and want to make something
- 22:39Speaker 1: fast happen that he let them come sign me as
- 22:41Speaker 1: an artist. You could have he could a bird man.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Jay z the whole situation.
- 22:46Speaker 6: We will be right back with more of a Baller
- 22:48Speaker 6: Alert Show. You're listening to a special edition of the
- 22:53Speaker 6: Baller Alert Show.
- 22:54Speaker 1: What's Popping? I go by the name of Hurricane right now,
- 22:57Speaker 1: you tune into the Baller Alert Show. You ain't gotta
- 22:59Speaker 1: be balling. You still could listen.
- 23:01Speaker 5: But we bout when you signed, When you signed your
- 23:03Speaker 5: deal and you felt, you know, kind of angry about
- 23:07Speaker 5: the situation. Now, did you know or did somebody tell
- 23:10Speaker 5: you like, hey man, this ain't no good deal for you, Like,
- 23:13Speaker 5: did somebody ever tell you that? Or you just felt
- 23:15Speaker 5: like in your heart you didn't sign a good deal.
- 23:19Speaker 1: I had, I had like people like j Prince come
- 23:23Speaker 1: in and ask me, you know, hey man, I get
- 23:27Speaker 1: you double what they gave you. But I was so
- 23:31Speaker 1: lawyer to Brian Leech for helping me get into the
- 23:35Speaker 1: position that I was in. I was like, nah, I'm good,
- 23:38Speaker 1: I'm straight. You know it just wouldn't know. I ain't
- 23:42Speaker 1: the type of cat to turn my back. I might
- 23:45Speaker 1: be kind of, you know, destrut about the situation, but
- 23:48Speaker 1: I ain't never wanted to look like a snake or
- 23:50Speaker 1: like I had two faces. You understand what I'm saying
- 23:52Speaker 1: in my lodge, you know, didn't hurt me to a degree.
- 23:56Speaker 1: You feel me like being lawyer will put you in
- 23:58Speaker 1: some mist of position, right about that?
- 24:02Speaker 7: So you had a baby Baby, you did the remix
- 24:04Speaker 7: with everybody on it, then you had uh it was.
- 24:09Speaker 8: What was the next one record?
- 24:10Speaker 1: The clap?
- 24:11Speaker 2: Oh, the hand clap.
- 24:13Speaker 8: And then halle Berry.
- 24:15Speaker 3: Yeah, so you play that right now to this day.
- 24:17Speaker 1: You know, Sexy Red just she just did a remix
- 24:19Speaker 1: to Hella bed Fire, she did, and I sent the
- 24:23Speaker 1: a verse for it, like two bays ago looked on
- 24:27Speaker 1: her page.
- 24:27Speaker 7: Okay, but halle Berry seemed to be the last hit.
- 24:32Speaker 8: From that deal mainstream. What happened with that?
- 24:36Speaker 1: I mean, I mean halle Berry pop on my own.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Me and a manager named Anthony Murray, we went and
- 24:41Speaker 1: grabbed this song, like the label I had fell out
- 24:44Speaker 1: with the label. And this around the time when I'm
- 24:47Speaker 1: telling your boy, I need you to reach out to
- 24:50Speaker 1: him and and help me fix this situation. So nobody helped.
- 24:55Speaker 1: I guess they felt like they got what they was
- 24:57Speaker 1: in in the in the in the situation to get
- 25:00Speaker 1: so I drove the Dallas. I hooked up with a
- 25:01Speaker 1: producer name Playing Skills, and they played they played the
- 25:06Speaker 1: beat halle Berry and it had to hook on it already.
- 25:13Speaker 1: They didn't have that point. That's me cause.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Had that part.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Okay, okay, okay.
- 25:18Speaker 1: So I'm like, man, it's a hit. I bet if
- 25:20Speaker 1: I get on this, it's gonna go immediately. And I
- 25:23Speaker 1: just I rapped on it. When I rapped on it,
- 25:26Speaker 1: it took off to the moon. A label started calling
- 25:28Speaker 1: me immediately, very video. So again that's how I record
- 25:34Speaker 1: it was working.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Wait wait, they did they give you another advance?
- 25:38Speaker 1: I don't even think nah they they we just continued
- 25:40Speaker 1: the situation that we already had.
- 25:42Speaker 8: How long was y'all contract?
- 25:44Speaker 1: It was for five albums? Okay, I only did three
- 25:47Speaker 1: and then once I, you know, got to the point
- 25:50Speaker 1: where I wouldn't work no more, and I I got
- 25:54Speaker 1: to the point where I just wasn't about to work
- 25:55Speaker 1: under the situation period like I ain't doing nothing.
- 25:59Speaker 2: He let me out because there was no money needed.
- 26:02Speaker 2: That you was gonna they was gonna.
- 26:05Speaker 3: At least because gave them.
- 26:07Speaker 1: They made a million dollars a week. Well, I made
- 26:10Speaker 1: stupid millions? Is you crazy?
- 26:12Speaker 7: Million week?
- 26:14Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 26:14Speaker 1: What was you up buying at that time? What was
- 26:16Speaker 1: you buy? My mama a half a million dollar house
- 26:19Speaker 1: in Street or in Streetport. It was probably the biggest purchase.
- 26:23Speaker 1: You know, costs pops, house pops, it's five fifties range rovers,
- 26:27Speaker 1: stuff like that. You was going to crash. I mean,
- 26:30Speaker 1: I was going through money fast, but I ain't. I
- 26:32Speaker 1: wasn't going through it like you see these young cats
- 26:34Speaker 1: going through it right now. I went and I still
- 26:36Speaker 1: had real estate too, halfway houses, rent houses, purchased a
- 26:40Speaker 1: couple of homes. Businesses, you know, helped my mama do
- 26:45Speaker 1: what she was trying to do with real estate. Restaurant here,
- 26:49Speaker 1: restaurant there, like everything that I did may have not
- 26:53Speaker 1: been a successful business, but I always tried to spread
- 26:56Speaker 1: my money, and you know, some of it was successful,
- 26:58Speaker 1: some of it wouldn't.
- 26:59Speaker 8: Did you have like Advisor, no advisor.
- 27:03Speaker 5: It was just me, that's dope, because everything ain't gonna
- 27:07Speaker 5: hit right, Like every every business deal is not gonna
- 27:10Speaker 5: be as successful as you know, right right right, your
- 27:13Speaker 5: last deal.
- 27:14Speaker 1: But you'd rather be putting your money into something that
- 27:16Speaker 1: could potentially make money than going to buy thirty new chains.
- 27:19Speaker 1: And you don't own no type of real estate or
- 27:22Speaker 1: no businesses to create residual income.
- 27:24Speaker 5: Right, So who taught you that? Did your mom teach
- 27:27Speaker 5: you to invest your money?
- 27:29Speaker 1: Yeah? Because she always had some entrepreneurship inside of it,
- 27:32Speaker 1: Like even from being young watching her own beauty shops
- 27:35Speaker 1: and watching my my my grandparents they had a convenience store,
- 27:41Speaker 1: and I just understood that, you know, you gotta flip
- 27:45Speaker 1: your paper. My daddy was a hustler. I wasn't about
- 27:48Speaker 1: to get involved in what he was involved in, but
- 27:50Speaker 1: I knew you gotta flip your paper. So that's something
- 27:53Speaker 1: that hit me at a young age, and that was
- 27:54Speaker 1: something that helped me tell a label, I ain't doing
- 27:57Speaker 1: nothing cause you like, I'm good, I know how to
- 28:00Speaker 1: make some money, Yeah, I ain't.
- 28:02Speaker 2: So why did y'all end up falling out? Y you
- 28:04Speaker 2: in the label?
- 28:04Speaker 1: I was young and I had a direction I wanted
- 28:09Speaker 1: to go in. The label owed me money, chicks wasn't
- 28:14Speaker 1: getting cut on time. So it just led to me
- 28:18Speaker 1: having a real big outburst and it got real bad
- 28:21Speaker 1: between me and the CEO, Like I was telling them
- 28:24Speaker 1: exactly how I felt.
- 28:25Speaker 2: And you know, they making millions and millions.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Of dollars exactly right, but chicks being laid in stuff
- 28:31Speaker 1: like that. Even after the deal, I had to go
- 28:34Speaker 1: hire a row to recovery agent to collect half a
- 28:37Speaker 1: million dollars. So it's just like the money wasn't being
- 28:40Speaker 1: sent to me. But at this age, I didn't know
- 28:43Speaker 1: how to go after the money. I didn't know I
- 28:45Speaker 1: could hire somebody that to make sure everything hit my
- 28:48Speaker 1: account when they's supposed to hit my account. I ain't
- 28:49Speaker 1: know how to aid it them or none of that.
- 28:51Speaker 1: And you know a lot of companies they just rather
- 28:53Speaker 1: you odded them or filesuit to get your money. They
- 28:56Speaker 1: gonna hold it as long as they can hold it.
- 28:58Speaker 1: So that that that was a big thing, and I
- 29:01Speaker 1: just blew up about it. And when I blew up,
- 29:04Speaker 1: they realized that this ain't a situation that we want
- 29:07Speaker 1: to play with.
- 29:08Speaker 8: Yeah, so you're out of your deal?
- 29:10Speaker 7: What is the temperature for the industry where you know,
- 29:16Speaker 7: did you get a lot of support or were you
- 29:19Speaker 7: trying to search for another deal or were you just
- 29:21Speaker 7: like I'm just gonna go independent.
- 29:23Speaker 1: When I got out of the deal, it was like
- 29:26Speaker 1: I started focusing on financial literacy and how to create
- 29:32Speaker 1: money outside of the music industry. So I just started
- 29:36Speaker 1: moving around from city to city, state to state and
- 29:39Speaker 1: learning as much as I could about business.
- 29:41Speaker 8: How is that like taking classes courses.
- 29:43Speaker 1: Nah, just from the people that I was able to
- 29:45Speaker 1: put myself around, Like I started just going to sit
- 29:48Speaker 1: with J Prince Senior and just just just ride with
- 29:52Speaker 1: them every day, somebody who done created a billion dollar empire,
- 29:56Speaker 1: and just learn how to be self sufficient and and
- 30:00Speaker 1: and how to make my money work for me. I'm
- 30:02Speaker 1: watching he owned this, We go to this building, we
- 30:04Speaker 1: find out he owned this, He owned this, He owned this,
- 30:07Speaker 1: So it's like ownership is where it's at. And he
- 30:10Speaker 1: got more money than any rapper. So it's like this
- 30:13Speaker 1: is some cool paper, but it's really a whole other
- 30:17Speaker 1: world out here of getting to some mega money, like
- 30:20Speaker 1: when you owning and and and and having the right
- 30:23Speaker 1: to be able to sell your your your stake and
- 30:27Speaker 1: business and you you really playing on a whole other level,
- 30:30Speaker 1: you know. So I just wanted to boss up outside
- 30:32Speaker 1: of the music industry for a minute, and you know
- 30:34Speaker 1: that's what I did.
- 30:35Speaker 7: Did you leave with a good amount of money in
- 30:37Speaker 7: your bank account or yeah?
- 30:39Speaker 3: I had?
- 30:39Speaker 1: I still had paper. I was straight, ain't I ain't
- 30:41Speaker 1: have to worry about no paper, Like I still bought
- 30:43Speaker 1: everything I wanted to buy, et cetera, et cetera.
- 30:47Speaker 8: Okay, were you doing shows.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Still or I was doing stupid shows? That's one thing
- 30:51Speaker 1: that really always kept me afloat performing. Yeah, I did
- 30:55Speaker 1: a whole lot of shows, Like I'm a college favorite
- 30:58Speaker 1: still to this day. College.
- 31:00Speaker 8: How old were you when you left the deal?
- 31:02Speaker 1: I probably was, like I signed a deal in two
- 31:06Speaker 1: thousand and seven. I think I got out of the
- 31:08Speaker 1: deal in like two thousand and nine.
- 31:10Speaker 2: How'd you feel out that you felt good? He was like,
- 31:13Speaker 2: thank god?
- 31:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like thank god because I felt like
- 31:16Speaker 1: I was in a situation that wasn't doing nothing for me.
- 31:18Speaker 1: I had been locked into this contract and the label
- 31:21Speaker 1: had shut down. They wasn't doing nothing. They wouldn't provide
- 31:24Speaker 1: me with no resources that I could use to get
- 31:27Speaker 1: to the next level. So I just wanted out of
- 31:29Speaker 1: the situation.
- 31:31Speaker 5: So when you were on a major label, did you
- 31:34Speaker 5: ever feel like you was on a major label?
- 31:35Speaker 2: Did you still feel like you was kind of like independent?
- 31:39Speaker 1: I felt like I was on a major label. Yeah,
- 31:41Speaker 1: I definitely understood I was on the major label. I
- 31:44Speaker 1: was signing to Clyde Davis. You know, that's who gave
- 31:46Speaker 1: Whitney Houston had did know I'd been in a room
- 31:49Speaker 1: sitting at tables eating with Whitney Houston before she passed.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Like if you watch your documentary, some of the scenes
- 31:56Speaker 1: that they portrayed in a documentary, I was actually there
- 31:59Speaker 1: in those rooms.
- 32:00Speaker 8: What was your experience of Whitney.
- 32:03Speaker 1: I mean, she a legend. So I couldn't do nothing
- 32:07Speaker 1: but be amazed that I was even in the same
- 32:08Speaker 1: room we were in Houston.
- 32:09Speaker 7: But I heard she's like down to earth and all
- 32:11Speaker 7: that was. She cool.
- 32:12Speaker 1: We ain't have conversations. I mean, you know this Whitney.
- 32:15Speaker 2: So you was just a fly on the walk.
- 32:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I was a fly on the water. I'm just
- 32:19Speaker 1: soaking up the game and the fact that I'm Clyde
- 32:22Speaker 1: Davis got got his arm on my shoulder, like you know,
- 32:25Speaker 1: we're gonna make you the biggest thing in the world.
- 32:26Speaker 1: So I just was soaking up the game.
- 32:29Speaker 8: You feel me, And this time.
- 32:32Speaker 7: You're like you you had the deal, you left and
- 32:35Speaker 7: you're you know, you're making music. You're trying to find
- 32:37Speaker 7: your feeding entrepreneurship. Uh did you have any relationships going
- 32:41Speaker 7: on at this time? Where did you have, like a
- 32:43Speaker 7: long girl, long standing girlfriend?
- 32:45Speaker 3: Yeah? How was your personal life?
- 32:47Speaker 1: I moved so when I signed my first deal with
- 32:53Speaker 1: Kylie Park, I ended up taking one of his artists
- 32:57Speaker 1: from him and moving up there was I think they
- 33:00Speaker 1: was about to get it there too, but I missed
- 33:02Speaker 1: they all up. I moved up all the way to
- 33:03Speaker 1: Street put Oh wow. He brought her down there for
- 33:06Speaker 1: a video shoot one time, and I was like, you ma, yes,
- 33:12Speaker 1: So I mean after that didn't that didn't last. That
- 33:14Speaker 1: didn't last. So I've been with the person, you know.
- 33:17Speaker 2: So you ruin that girl career?
- 33:19Speaker 7: Man?
- 33:20Speaker 3: Did she ever end up some music?
- 33:22Speaker 1: Nah? The whole group broke up. I mean, you know,
- 33:27Speaker 1: when you take a female out of a female he
- 33:29Speaker 1: ruled the group.
- 33:32Speaker 7: Heard after her or.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Yeah, the same person I'm with nothing, Okay, Okay, I've
- 33:37Speaker 1: been I've been with my old lady for like seventeen years.
- 33:40Speaker 8: Is she the mother of your child?
- 33:41Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 33:42Speaker 7: Okay, So when you had your son, how did that
- 33:45Speaker 7: change your life? Because I know you didn't. You weren't
- 33:47Speaker 7: signed at this point.
- 33:49Speaker 1: I wouldn't sign. But right before, right before I had
- 33:54Speaker 1: my son, it's when I started hiring people to outit
- 33:57Speaker 1: the label.
- 33:58Speaker 3: M hm.
- 33:59Speaker 1: So what that punt money was just flying in like
- 34:03Speaker 1: crazy because it was all the old back payments that
- 34:06Speaker 1: they never paid me. Like I went to the dealership
- 34:10Speaker 1: in about two Bentley's a Maserati, Ben's truck, Ben's cart, So,
- 34:15Speaker 1: I mean everything. It was a good situation. My son
- 34:19Speaker 1: ain't never had the one for nothing still don't want
- 34:22Speaker 1: for nothing, like he can't think of nothing that he
- 34:24Speaker 1: want right now.
- 34:26Speaker 5: That's what that's what it's all about. At what point
- 34:28Speaker 5: of time did did you eventually say, man, I gotta
- 34:31Speaker 5: get out of street Port because you know, you hear
- 34:34Speaker 5: you know, even Boosey just talk about a lot of
- 34:36Speaker 5: the corruption that goes on in Louisiana.
- 34:38Speaker 2: At what point did you decide like, all right, I
- 34:40Speaker 2: gotta get out of here.
- 34:41Speaker 1: I got charged with second degree murder for defending myself
- 34:43Speaker 1: against somebody who's in the midst of a violence, a
- 34:47Speaker 1: violent attack on me.
- 34:49Speaker 3: Can we talk about that.
- 34:50Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, I was at the gas station and
- 34:52Speaker 1: somebody tried to ride me and reach into their pocket
- 34:54Speaker 1: for a weapon, and you know, I had to usual
- 34:56Speaker 1: leave the force. I stayed on the scene, and when
- 34:59Speaker 1: they got there, they choose to charge me with your
- 35:02Speaker 1: second degree.
- 35:02Speaker 2: So they took you to jail. Yeah, it took me
- 35:04Speaker 2: straight to jail for doing the right thing, man.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Staying on the scene and everything I had. They didn't
- 35:09Speaker 1: get there till probably twenty minutes. I could have been gone,
- 35:13Speaker 1: and yay, I stayed there and you felt like you
- 35:15Speaker 1: in inside told little clerk died nine one one. When
- 35:19Speaker 1: they get here, give them the tape. Stayed right there.
- 35:21Speaker 3: They gave him the tape.
- 35:22Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what cleared me and tried. But Shreetport's so corrupt.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Only thing they looking at it is we got Hurricane Chris.
- 35:29Speaker 1: They actually got officer saying this on recording. MMM, like, man,
- 35:34Speaker 1: that's Hurricane Chris. So a lot of this had to
- 35:36Speaker 1: do with them and risk the.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Me as well because of who you who you were.
- 35:40Speaker 1: And the DA felt like if she could get a
- 35:42Speaker 1: conviction on on a celebrity, then she can run for
- 35:46Speaker 1: whatever she wanna run for after the district attorney. You
- 35:48Speaker 1: feel me like that? Yeah, so they they really tried
- 35:51Speaker 1: to use me as a chess move. So after I
- 35:53Speaker 1: seen that and then I seen the male didn't step
- 35:55Speaker 1: in and say nothing about it or try to.
- 35:58Speaker 3: Help with evidence that it was self defense. Cu.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Yeah, they had evidence. They had boooo evidence. This dude
- 36:04Speaker 1: was This dude was was was was in the wrong
- 36:07Speaker 1: a hundred percent.
- 36:08Speaker 3: Like would you know the person?
- 36:10Speaker 1: Nah, I ain't never seen him in my life.
- 36:12Speaker 8: I'm just chilling in the gas station or were I
- 36:15Speaker 8: you were?
- 36:15Speaker 1: I'm outside the gas station. I'm sitting in the car
- 36:17Speaker 1: with with my with my partner, with my security, and
- 36:20Speaker 1: were just chopping it up with your security. Yeah.
- 36:24Speaker 8: And then where does the guy come from? He just
- 36:25Speaker 8: comes out of nowhere.
- 36:26Speaker 1: When I look over at my S five fifty, somebody
- 36:28Speaker 1: breaking in it.
- 36:29Speaker 8: Mm, you're in another car, not your as.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Gas pumps over in another car. When I look over
- 36:34Speaker 1: at my whip, somebody breaking in it. So I run
- 36:37Speaker 1: over there, and by this time he didn't already got
- 36:39Speaker 1: the door open. I got a aar fifteen laying right
- 36:41Speaker 1: on the seat. M I wasn't about to let him
- 36:44Speaker 1: get to it, so I s I made him stop, instantly,
- 36:46Speaker 1: turn around, P get your hands away from your pockets,
- 36:50Speaker 1: cause he started reaching, you know, and et cetera, et cetera.
- 36:53Speaker 1: He started making verbal threats, reaching deeper into his pocket,
- 36:56Speaker 1: and he he just failed to retreat or or to
- 36:59Speaker 1: to do anything that I that I was asking him
- 37:02Speaker 1: to do, as far as take your hands away from
- 37:03Speaker 1: your pocket, step away from the car, put his hand
- 37:06Speaker 1: in his pocket, made verber threats, and step closer to me.
- 37:08Speaker 3: So did did they? Did he end up having a weapon?
- 37:11Speaker 1: He had a a a boulder like the size of
- 37:15Speaker 1: my the size of my head. It probably sound like
- 37:18Speaker 1: I'm exaggerating, but he had a boulder like this big
- 37:21Speaker 1: cement concrete cement block in his pocket, and that's what
- 37:25Speaker 1: he was going in.
- 37:26Speaker 2: His pocket for, cause he was gonna hit you with it.
- 37:28Speaker 1: I guess he was gonna try to knock me out
- 37:29Speaker 1: with it and do whatever he wanted to do. That
- 37:32Speaker 1: wasn't about to have.
- 37:32Speaker 7: Against the gun that you had. He was gonna hit
- 37:35Speaker 7: you with.
- 37:35Speaker 3: A d You didn't know what he had.
- 37:38Speaker 1: I knew it was I knew that he was reaching
- 37:40Speaker 1: in his pocket and I seen a protrusion. I could
- 37:44Speaker 1: see something real big in his pocket. So in my mind,
- 37:46Speaker 1: he got a gun.
- 37:48Speaker 7: So in self defense, you fire off and you know,
- 37:52Speaker 7: and then you wait for the police. Yep, cause the
- 37:57Speaker 7: gas station. Cause what happened with the clerk? Did he
- 38:00Speaker 7: come outside? Did he call the police? Or who called
- 38:03Speaker 7: the cops?
- 38:04Speaker 1: I died now on one, okay, and I think he
- 38:06Speaker 1: may have died two.
- 38:08Speaker 8: The person in the store clerk.
- 38:10Speaker 1: Yeah, So I told him make sure when when they
- 38:13Speaker 1: get here, give them the cameras, give them the tapes.
- 38:16Speaker 1: So when they got there, I'm trying to walk up
- 38:19Speaker 1: to the officers and tell them what's going on. They
- 38:21Speaker 1: telling me get back. I'm like, you want me to
- 38:25Speaker 1: tell you what's going old or you want me to
- 38:27Speaker 1: you want me to get in my call leave? They
- 38:30Speaker 1: basically trying to push me away from the scene. I'm like, nah, nah,
- 38:35Speaker 1: they don't know that with the situation, started putting yellow
- 38:39Speaker 1: tape up.
- 38:40Speaker 2: Around you, like I'm the one called y'all.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Yeah, God, I'm involving this whole situation. But they like
- 38:46Speaker 1: pushing me back. You feel me as they pushing me
- 38:49Speaker 1: back I'm like, hey, I'm involving this situation. They still
- 38:52Speaker 1: telling me get back. They ain't trying to hear nothing
- 38:54Speaker 1: I'm saying. So I guess one of them heard what
- 38:56Speaker 1: I was saying, and he was like what they walked
- 38:58Speaker 1: me over and you know, and that's when they put
- 39:00Speaker 1: me in the car.
- 39:01Speaker 7: Was the man already dead at the scene or I.
- 39:04Speaker 1: Can't tell you that, Okay, I couldn't sell.
- 39:06Speaker 7: But he was still they were they were surrounding him.
- 39:09Speaker 1: Yeah, they were surrounding him.
- 39:10Speaker 8: Okay.
- 39:11Speaker 5: So they immediately put you in the car after you
- 39:14Speaker 5: explained to them what happened.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Hand cuts and put me in the car.
- 39:18Speaker 3: Wow.
- 39:18Speaker 1: And the heat on inside the police car. So I'm
- 39:21Speaker 1: burning up in the back of the police car, like
- 39:22Speaker 1: going crazy, to the point where my body about to
- 39:25Speaker 1: shut down because they got the heat blasting on me.
- 39:28Speaker 1: And I'm banging on the window like turn it hell on.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Ain't nobody coming to the car. So I'm in a
- 39:33Speaker 1: I'm like getting sick in the back seat.
- 39:35Speaker 3: Wow.
- 39:36Speaker 1: By the time I got out of out swim buckshots,
- 39:38Speaker 1: they let me out for a second. Once they figured
- 39:40Speaker 1: out that they had me in a hot car, they
- 39:41Speaker 1: let me out the air, like to get some air.
- 39:44Speaker 1: When they let me out the back seat, I'm so
- 39:46Speaker 1: hot I almost pass out.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Then what happened after that?
- 39:50Speaker 1: They took me.
- 39:51Speaker 3: Downtown, So call your lawyer.
- 39:53Speaker 1: Right So, when I get downtown, I'm thinking I ain't
- 39:56Speaker 1: did nothing wrong, so I answer the questions, which I
- 40:00Speaker 1: should have never did. I should have called a lawyer
- 40:02Speaker 1: straight off the dunk. If you ever get arrested and
- 40:06Speaker 1: you get took downtown, don't answer no questions without a lawyer.
- 40:09Speaker 1: I'm telling everybody this right now. I don't care how
- 40:11Speaker 1: right you thank you is because a police officers job
- 40:14Speaker 1: is to try to get a arrist to try to
- 40:16Speaker 1: help the district return and get a conviction. They don't
- 40:19Speaker 1: care if somebody was on top of your mama beating
- 40:23Speaker 1: it of death.
- 40:24Speaker 3: It's a murder. It's a crime. We need to convict something.
- 40:28Speaker 8: Because a lot of people don't know this.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Don't answer no questions until you get a lawyer. There
- 40:33Speaker 1: me being stupid, thinking that you know, shreet Port gonna
- 40:36Speaker 1: do the right thing by me. I answer questions and
- 40:39Speaker 1: they used all it, and once I realized, they started
- 40:42Speaker 1: asking me the same questions in circles, trying to trip
- 40:44Speaker 1: me up. I was like, I don't want to.
- 40:46Speaker 2: Talk no more because they wanted you to change your story.
- 40:48Speaker 1: Yeah, but it wasn't changing. But keep in mind, it's
- 40:51Speaker 1: three am and I'm sleepy, so I'm becoming to be
- 40:55Speaker 1: like not as responsive as I was earlier in the day.
- 40:59Speaker 1: It's three am at this point, and you can hear
- 41:01Speaker 1: like it in my voice on like I'm dog tired, sleepy,
- 41:04Speaker 1: like I'm about to drop and fall asleep right in
- 41:07Speaker 1: the middle of this interview.
- 41:08Speaker 8: Because the incident happened at like nine pm.
- 41:11Speaker 1: I think, I think like ten or eleven, okay, but
- 41:13Speaker 1: by this time it's three am, like way past my bedtime.
- 41:17Speaker 2: So what was your security at when the whole incident occurred.
- 41:20Speaker 1: I don't think. I know, I got a ton of vision.
- 41:23Speaker 1: I know nobody ain't doing nothing. Nobody ain't doing nothing,
- 41:28Speaker 1: Like I'm the only one who made the proper move
- 41:32Speaker 1: to make sure that we all was able to go
- 41:35Speaker 1: back home, because just saye fanswers, if he the rich
- 41:37Speaker 1: in my carn got that they off fifteen, he would
- 41:39Speaker 1: have hit them with it too.
- 41:41Speaker 5: Mmm.
- 41:42Speaker 1: That's why I feel like everybody else who was there
- 41:44Speaker 1: was kind of like playing like you know what I'm saying.
- 41:46Speaker 8: So the gun was in the.
- 41:47Speaker 7: Car, you had an AR fifteen on the seat, but
- 41:49Speaker 7: then you had something else on you.
- 41:51Speaker 1: Yeah. I had my side on ony okay.
- 41:53Speaker 3: And these are all these were all registered too.
- 41:55Speaker 1: Yeah. I had my conceial license since I was first
- 41:58Speaker 1: turned twenty one?
- 42:00Speaker 5: So when where were you at when they told you
- 42:02Speaker 5: that you were actually being charged for murder?
- 42:06Speaker 1: When I told him I don't want to answer no
- 42:07Speaker 1: more questions, called my dad, and my dadd had sent
- 42:11Speaker 1: the lawyer up there. My lawyer went and told them
- 42:14Speaker 1: we're done with the inter of you. And they came
- 42:17Speaker 1: in and said my lawyer walked back in there. She said, okay, Chris,
- 42:21Speaker 1: stand up, walk out of here with your head up.
- 42:24Speaker 1: They about to charge you with second degree murder.
- 42:26Speaker 2: Wow.
- 42:27Speaker 1: So you were put in jail immediately.
- 42:30Speaker 2: Wow.
- 42:31Speaker 1: And then you made bill Yeah, I had a half
- 42:33Speaker 1: a million dollar Bunn.
- 42:35Speaker 3: Mentally, what's going through your mind? Because you just killed somebody? Right,
- 42:40Speaker 3: and you're happy? I mean I don't want to say happy.
- 42:44Speaker 4: You're you had to defend yourself, right, so you're here,
- 42:49Speaker 4: that person's not there, but now you're being charged. You're
- 42:51Speaker 4: in your hometown what's going through your mind?
- 42:55Speaker 1: It ain't no way. I'm thinking, it ain't no way.
- 42:59Speaker 1: Like I practiced all of this and concealed weaping classes.
- 43:03Speaker 1: I know exactly when to use a whipping and when
- 43:05Speaker 1: not the user whipping I know, not for that.
- 43:08Speaker 4: Because I think that this helped you, because yeah, maybe
- 43:10Speaker 4: said the right things that you need to say.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Yeah, like I know not to engage with fors u lists,
- 43:16Speaker 1: you know, and you feel like you your life in danger?
- 43:20Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? Like, I notice, So I
- 43:23Speaker 1: took the same class that the police officers took. The
- 43:25Speaker 1: dude who gave me my license give all the police
- 43:27Speaker 1: officers stay licensed. So I know the same rules y'all know,
- 43:31Speaker 1: and I followed them to the t. So I'm like,
- 43:33Speaker 1: it ain't no way. I'm looking at the lawyer like,
- 43:35Speaker 1: ain't no way. She like, we ain't even gotta keep
- 43:38Speaker 1: going back and forth. We finna get you. We're gonna
- 43:40Speaker 1: get you out. Stand up when you walk out of here,
- 43:44Speaker 1: put your hands behind your back, and don't worry about
- 43:46Speaker 1: letting this.
- 43:48Speaker 7: So you post the bell, somebody you know, post your
- 43:53Speaker 7: bill five hundred k. And then did you have to
- 43:56Speaker 7: put the ankle monitor on immediately after that or.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Nah, what's crazy is when I when I first got out,
- 44:04Speaker 1: I ain't have no InKo on it on. They called
- 44:07Speaker 1: me like, and that's the only thing I was worried about. Man,
- 44:09Speaker 1: i'm'a have to wear ankle monder though. Mm. Like three
- 44:12Speaker 1: days later they called me and said, you gotta wear
- 44:14Speaker 1: ankle underdough and they sent me to this place. My
- 44:16Speaker 1: lawyer called me in and he's like, you gotta go
- 44:17Speaker 1: to this place they about to put ankle on it
- 44:19Speaker 1: on you that you have to pay for right, I
- 44:22Speaker 1: pay like twenty seven thousand for the ankle.
- 44:23Speaker 8: Onner WO for them to mark keep track of you exactly.
- 44:28Speaker 1: And then they tried to raise my bun a police
- 44:30Speaker 1: one of the arresting officers went to the district attorney
- 44:33Speaker 1: and said, don't try to know he owned businesses. That
- 44:36Speaker 1: half a million dollar bun wasn't high enough mm. So
- 44:38Speaker 1: the district attorney submitted something for the judge to lock
- 44:43Speaker 1: me back up and give me another half a million
- 44:45Speaker 1: dollar bun or a million dollar bun. But the judge
- 44:49Speaker 1: looked at it like I seen the judge when he
- 44:51Speaker 1: pulled his glasses down when they approached him. Like they
- 44:56Speaker 1: denied it.
- 44:57Speaker 7: Mm, they was trying to get you man.
- 45:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and it was and it was everywhere that was
- 45:02Speaker 2: national news, like.
- 45:03Speaker 1: Yeah, they tried to lynch me, bro And I feel
- 45:06Speaker 1: like as much as I did for this time, Like
- 45:08Speaker 1: if you pull up me, I'm I'm with the politicians
- 45:13Speaker 1: trying to help these state representatives be re elected. I'm
- 45:17Speaker 1: with the I'm in nursing homes, filling them up with
- 45:20Speaker 1: flat screen TVs. I'm moving around throughout my community giving back.
- 45:25Speaker 1: And to see nobody have my back during this time
- 45:29Speaker 1: was crazy. Even the politicians that I helped and I
- 45:33Speaker 1: helped them remain in position and came and supported them
- 45:37Speaker 1: for their causes. When I hit them up and told
- 45:39Speaker 1: them what was happening with me, they was like, well,
- 45:41Speaker 1: just get a lawyer. You just handled that with a lawyer.
- 45:44Speaker 1: I'm like what, So you know it was it was
- 45:47Speaker 1: really me against the whole entire state of Louisiana.
- 45:51Speaker 8: So your lawyers go to work.
- 45:53Speaker 7: You know, the trialers is going they say that they
- 45:57Speaker 7: were they had a pola deal for you for forty
- 46:00Speaker 7: years on manslaughter.
- 46:01Speaker 1: Yeah, but my lawyer never told me that because after
- 46:04Speaker 1: the trial, he said, you know, they had a deal
- 46:05Speaker 1: for you for forty years, he said, But I know
- 46:07Speaker 1: if I would have told you that, you probably would
- 46:09Speaker 1: have fired me. Mmm, he said, I never even brought
- 46:11Speaker 1: it to you.
- 46:12Speaker 2: Forty years.
- 46:13Speaker 1: Yeah, they wanted me to cop out to forty years
- 46:15Speaker 1: because you know, in Louisiana, second degree murder carry life
- 46:19Speaker 1: and life in Louisiana, I mean, not twenty five of life.
- 46:23Speaker 1: You don't get no parole. If you go to jail
- 46:26Speaker 1: for life in Louisiana, you do life. I mean, the
- 46:30Speaker 1: district attorney was telling the jury, we're gonna walk him
- 46:32Speaker 1: in jail and he gonna come out in a bodybag.
- 46:36Speaker 1: It ain't no twenty five of life. It ain't no parole.
- 46:39Speaker 1: I need people on my jury that's willing to give
- 46:41Speaker 1: him life cause that's what he getting if we convict him.
- 46:45Speaker 1: So you ain't getting out if you get life.
- 46:47Speaker 2: Wow.
- 46:48Speaker 7: How was home life at home during this time during
- 46:51Speaker 7: the trial, cause you know, like you was out on Bill,
- 46:55Speaker 7: What was it like at home for you and getting
- 46:57Speaker 7: in you know, waking up every day seeing your son
- 47:00Speaker 7: and you know, just trying to live life knowing this
- 47:03Speaker 7: is all going on.
- 47:04Speaker 1: Man, it was hard. It was real hard to live life.
- 47:07Speaker 1: It feel like a dream. It feel like I couldn't
- 47:10Speaker 1: make no promises to nobody. It felt like getting a
- 47:13Speaker 1: promise that I did make. I was lying even to
- 47:16Speaker 1: my son. You feel me. I'm looking at him like, man,
- 47:19Speaker 1: what what? What?
- 47:20Speaker 3: What?
- 47:20Speaker 1: What happened? If these folks actually locked me up for life?
- 47:24Speaker 1: And I got this, I got a eight seven eight
- 47:27Speaker 1: year old son that don't know nothing but his daddy
- 47:30Speaker 1: being right there every day like this was crazy to me,
- 47:33Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, Like the craziest feeling I
- 47:36Speaker 1: ever felt in my life, you know.
- 47:37Speaker 8: And was your grandmother's keeping you positive, taking you to
- 47:40Speaker 8: church or so?
- 47:41Speaker 1: One of my grandmothers passed. She saw M she saw
- 47:44Speaker 1: it happen. She was she was alive when it happened.
- 47:47Speaker 1: But before I got a quit it, she passed away.
- 47:49Speaker 1: So that bothered me as well, like M. I hope
- 47:51Speaker 1: she know I'm straight. You know that bothered me a lot,
- 47:54Speaker 1: a lot. And it's the first person I went to
- 47:57Speaker 1: when I burned out, when they bumed me out, They
- 47:58Speaker 1: took me straight to my grandmother. You know what I'm saying,
- 48:01Speaker 1: Because this who give me all my spiritual healing? This
- 48:04Speaker 1: who give me all my confidence you feel me now.
- 48:07Speaker 5: At any point of time when you was in you know,
- 48:09Speaker 5: when you was going to try for everything, did you
- 48:12Speaker 5: ever look at the jury and think they're like, man,
- 48:14Speaker 5: these people, you know, they probably think I did it.
- 48:17Speaker 2: That like you know what I mean.
- 48:18Speaker 1: I mean when they was an interviewing the jurors, one
- 48:20Speaker 1: of the dudes, they asked him a question. They was like,
- 48:24Speaker 1: so would you be able to to to give him life?
- 48:30Speaker 1: Would you be able to say guilty if we can
- 48:33Speaker 1: prove him guilty? And he was like, well, if you
- 48:35Speaker 1: say he did it, he must have did it. They might.
- 48:40Speaker 1: The judge took him off the jury because if you
- 48:42Speaker 1: say something like that, they gotta take you.
- 48:44Speaker 2: Yeah, they can't. Yeah, they can't just side with gotta.
- 48:48Speaker 1: You gotta be willing. Your job coming here is to
- 48:50Speaker 1: listen to the evidence presented and then make a decision.
- 48:53Speaker 1: If you show any sign that you already want to
- 48:56Speaker 1: say guilty or innocent before you listen to the evidence,
- 49:01Speaker 1: then they take you off the jury. They can't keep
- 49:03Speaker 1: you on it.
- 49:04Speaker 8: Good, that's good.
- 49:05Speaker 7: So March fifteen, twenty twenty three happens. They deliver the verdict,
- 49:09Speaker 7: which is not guilty. Right, what was the what was
- 49:14Speaker 7: the energy in the courtroom when the verdict.
- 49:16Speaker 8: Was being read.
- 49:17Speaker 1: I broke down. I had a lawyer to the left
- 49:20Speaker 1: of me, a lawyer to the right of me. And
- 49:22Speaker 1: that's another thing I had my year ago. Yeah, my
- 49:26Speaker 1: lawyer had to shut his whole law firm down. They
- 49:28Speaker 1: had to shut the whole law firm down because every
- 49:30Speaker 1: lawyer had to work my try. Even their sons was
- 49:34Speaker 1: in court working my trial. Like from the publicists to
- 49:38Speaker 1: their secretary to all the lawyers, like they shut everything
- 49:41Speaker 1: down to win my trial. And that's that's something that
- 49:45Speaker 1: Alex Washington, I'm I always be grateful for because they
- 49:48Speaker 1: ain't have to do that, you know. So I had
- 49:51Speaker 1: a lawyer to the left of me and the lawyer
- 49:53Speaker 1: to the right of me. When they said not get it,
- 49:55Speaker 1: I grabbed both of their hands. I was just ecstatic.
- 49:58Speaker 1: My head hit the table, like couldn't do nothing. Thank God,
- 50:00Speaker 1: you feel me as I'm thanking God. And mind you,
- 50:04Speaker 1: we had probably one hundred and fifty people in his courtroom.
- 50:07Speaker 1: As soon as they said not guilty, and I put
- 50:09Speaker 1: my head down, Thank God. When I picked my head
- 50:12Speaker 1: up and turned around, it wasn't nobody in the courtroom
- 50:14Speaker 1: like they all came to see somebody get life. They
- 50:17Speaker 1: walked out like this ain't what I came to see.
- 50:19Speaker 2: Oh you feel me.
- 50:21Speaker 6: We'll be right by. Stay tuned with more of The
- 50:24Speaker 6: Baller Alert Show. You're listening to a special edition of
- 50:29Speaker 6: The Baller Alert Show.
- 50:30Speaker 1: What's pop? And I go by the name a hurricane?
- 50:32Speaker 1: Right now? You tune into the Baller Alert Show. You
- 50:35Speaker 1: ain't gotta be balling. You still could listen, but we bothered.
- 50:38Speaker 5: So this might be a dumb question, but why was
- 50:42Speaker 5: it so hard? Why did they have to work so
- 50:44Speaker 5: hard to prove that you were innocent? If everything was
- 50:47Speaker 5: on camera.
- 50:48Speaker 1: It's Louisiana, Yeah, in different states, Bro, if you not
- 50:54Speaker 1: a if you not a celebrity for number one name
- 50:57Speaker 1: used to trying people of my caliber. They didn't take
- 51:00Speaker 1: into account of They didn't take into account that the
- 51:03Speaker 1: world was gonna see this. They didn't take into account
- 51:06Speaker 1: that I already got a legacy that I created and
- 51:10Speaker 1: it's a good one. Ain't nobody knowing me for missing
- 51:14Speaker 1: with nobody? You know what I'm saying, Like, I ain't
- 51:17Speaker 1: never been known. There's no bad dude. I've been known
- 51:20Speaker 1: as the type of dude to show love. And I
- 51:23Speaker 1: got twenty of my homeboys at my house and everybody
- 51:26Speaker 1: sharing everything we got, you know what I'm saying. So
- 51:31Speaker 1: they thought they had a chance, But little did they know.
- 51:35Speaker 1: You never stood a chance that painting the negative picture
- 51:37Speaker 1: of me, because I already painted a picture. I painted
- 51:41Speaker 1: a picture since I was fourteen years old. The people
- 51:44Speaker 1: that you're trying to tell that I'm a bad person
- 51:47Speaker 1: and all of this, they like, we watched them grow up.
- 51:50Speaker 1: They looking at the district attorney, crazy upside of here,
- 51:53Speaker 1: like what this little Chris did? We watched grow up?
- 51:57Speaker 3: Nah?
- 51:59Speaker 1: I mean, and this Louisiana. If they feel like they
- 52:02Speaker 1: could hide you and the world ain't gonna see what's
- 52:05Speaker 1: going on and they can sweep you under the rug
- 52:08Speaker 1: without nobody paying attention, they gonna do it. It's just like
- 52:11Speaker 1: you when you was a kid, if you could get
- 52:13Speaker 1: away with something and your parents wasn't gonna see it,
- 52:16Speaker 1: then you was gonna do it. And that's how they
- 52:18Speaker 1: rock in Louisiana. Like it's a real, real messed up place.
- 52:22Speaker 1: You don't wanna go to jail in Louisiana. Racist, it's
- 52:25Speaker 1: real racist. But what's crazy is the district attorney was
- 52:27Speaker 1: black m M looked just like us and and and
- 52:33Speaker 1: really stood up there like they had one judge that
- 52:35Speaker 1: wouldn't even take the case in the court room. First
- 52:38Speaker 1: judge I had, she wouldn't even take the case went
- 52:40Speaker 1: to court one day, they was like, she has removed
- 52:42Speaker 1: herself from your.
- 52:43Speaker 2: Case because she she didn't think it.
- 52:45Speaker 1: Was I'm thinking she knew that this was some bs mmm.
- 52:49Speaker 1: I even had people from the district attorney office reach
- 52:53Speaker 1: out to my lawyer like this is a bad situation.
- 52:55Speaker 1: He should have never been charged. You feel me. The
- 52:59Speaker 1: officers that was on the scene, like three of them
- 53:03Speaker 1: got fired after the case was over for all types
- 53:05Speaker 1: of stuff that they wasn't supposed to be doing. Wow,
- 53:08Speaker 1: you feel me, Like, so, it's a.
- 53:11Speaker 2: Corrupt it sounds it sounds like a documentary.
- 53:13Speaker 1: It's a movie. I'm trying to highlight fifty cent.
- 53:15Speaker 2: Yes, I hope you he out there now.
- 53:17Speaker 1: I'm trying to highlight fifty cent and tell him let's
- 53:19Speaker 1: do the life story of hurricane.
- 53:21Speaker 3: Like when you got to quit it, the first thing
- 53:24Speaker 3: in your mind is what.
- 53:25Speaker 1: I got my life back? For three years, I felt
- 53:28Speaker 1: like my life wasn't my life.
- 53:29Speaker 3: I was gonna ask how long did it take for
- 53:30Speaker 3: all this back and forth a goo so three years?
- 53:32Speaker 1: I feel like I had a lease on life and
- 53:35Speaker 1: that they least could be up at any moment when
- 53:38Speaker 1: they say it not guilty. I just started thinking about, Man,
- 53:43Speaker 1: I just want to go home and just walk around
- 53:46Speaker 1: in my boxes and man, just just do with my family.
- 53:51Speaker 1: You know, I got my life back. You know. I
- 53:53Speaker 1: felt like I fel like I was hanging off a
- 53:55Speaker 1: cliff for three years and somebody could have easily just
- 53:58Speaker 1: just cut the rope and I dropped them million feet
- 54:00Speaker 1: and to centigrade. But once they said not gifted, it
- 54:05Speaker 1: was like I got my life back, you know what
- 54:06Speaker 1: I'm saying. Yeah, I felt like I was gonna celebrate
- 54:10Speaker 1: and stand up and say I told you, But I
- 54:12Speaker 1: ain't do none of that. I just I couldn't do
- 54:15Speaker 1: nothing but think about God and thank Him for bringing
- 54:19Speaker 1: me through this situation. You know, I know it wasn't me.
- 54:22Speaker 1: My auntie and my mama. They couldn't even sit in
- 54:26Speaker 1: the courtroom when they read divertict. My Auntie went to
- 54:28Speaker 1: the bathroom and talked to my grandma the whole time,
- 54:33Speaker 1: Like I told you she passed before I went to trial,
- 54:36Speaker 1: but she was so much of a spiritual healing to us.
- 54:41Speaker 1: I'm still relying on her to this day because she.
- 54:43Speaker 8: Was on the other side working for you.
- 54:44Speaker 1: You feel me. I know she was in the courtroom.
- 54:47Speaker 1: You can't tell me she wouldn't so.
- 54:51Speaker 3: Music.
- 54:51Speaker 4: So when did music start coming back around and you
- 54:54Speaker 4: start feel comfortable.
- 54:56Speaker 8: A second world?
- 54:57Speaker 7: Shout out to your lawyers, because, like you said, you're
- 55:00Speaker 7: in such a corrupt town, in a corrupt place for
- 55:03Speaker 7: you to be able to find somebody who would you know,
- 55:05Speaker 7: like you said, they had their whole family working. You know,
- 55:09Speaker 7: that is kind of like a needle in a haystack
- 55:11Speaker 7: when it comes to like a place like Louisiana.
- 55:13Speaker 8: And you said, your dad found those lawyers for you.
- 55:16Speaker 1: Nah, the lawyer that he sent originally, I ended up
- 55:19Speaker 1: not letting that lawyer do my trial. Alex Washington is
- 55:23Speaker 1: who I use for my trial. Okay, that's who fucked
- 55:25Speaker 1: in the case the entire time, like anytime the whole
- 55:28Speaker 1: three years.
- 55:29Speaker 8: How'd you find him when I.
- 55:31Speaker 1: Was in jail. He showed up at the jail.
- 55:33Speaker 2: Okay, you just showed up and I.
- 55:35Speaker 1: Ain't want to talk to him. I'm like, bro, this
- 55:37Speaker 1: a setup? Who is this? I ain't got no lawyer yet.
- 55:40Speaker 1: I'm just finna try to I'm just fina bun out.
- 55:43Speaker 1: Then get a lawyer.
- 55:44Speaker 8: Did somebody send him?
- 55:46Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 55:47Speaker 5: He probably he probably saw the news and he probably
- 55:50Speaker 5: thought that was something that he could fight for.
- 55:51Speaker 2: You.
- 55:52Speaker 1: I think I think one of my partners, three male
- 55:54Speaker 1: sent them. Oh okay, but he could have came on
- 55:57Speaker 1: his own. I ain't sure. I don't really remember that
- 55:59Speaker 1: good you never asks him about it. I did asks
- 56:01Speaker 1: him about it back then, but I just don't remember
- 56:04Speaker 1: the answer. It's been like four years ago since the
- 56:06Speaker 1: beginning of the whole situation. So he just popped up
- 56:10Speaker 1: and and and they said, you got a visit. I'm like, first,
- 56:13Speaker 1: somebody from the radio station that I ain't seen in
- 56:16Speaker 1: fifteen years came and seen me, and I'm like, what's up?
- 56:19Speaker 1: He was like, whatever you need?
- 56:20Speaker 3: Let me know who who was that?
- 56:22Speaker 1: This was his name? Elo? Okay, uh my, my, my,
- 56:26Speaker 1: my cousin used to work at the radio station. I
- 56:28Speaker 1: used to hang out, not a radio station, a record store.
- 56:31Speaker 1: So that's another thing I forgot to tell y'all. I
- 56:32Speaker 1: actually grew up inside a record store. Okay, so my
- 56:36Speaker 1: cousin worked in a record store. The dude who owned it,
- 56:38Speaker 1: his name was Elo. He work on the radio. Now,
- 56:41Speaker 1: he pulled up, like what you need. I'm like, man,
- 56:44Speaker 1: I'm straight. I'm from the bun out. Mm. After that,
- 56:47Speaker 1: the lawyer popped up. The lawyer he even was asking
- 56:50Speaker 1: me what you need. I got people that could put
- 56:52Speaker 1: the money up for you right now. So I'm like, nah,
- 56:54Speaker 1: I'm straight. I'm good. So I mean I had people
- 56:58Speaker 1: who had my back.
- 56:59Speaker 7: You know, are these the same lawyers that you are
- 57:01Speaker 7: gonna start the you know, invest in the law form
- 57:04Speaker 7: with or yeah yeah.
- 57:05Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah yeah. He actually just got somebody off on
- 57:08Speaker 1: a situation that a dude did thirty eight years for
- 57:11Speaker 1: a crime that he didn't commit. My lawyer just got
- 57:14Speaker 1: him off. I think it's in New Orleans. I had
- 57:16Speaker 1: to give you the jails thirty eight years, thirty eight years,
- 57:19Speaker 1: like for crime he didn't commit. My lawyer just got
- 57:23Speaker 1: him off on it.
- 57:24Speaker 3: So that's crazy.
- 57:25Speaker 1: I'm highly invested with my lawyer and were planning to
- 57:27Speaker 1: do a lot of business. As far as justice reform,
- 57:30Speaker 1: I think that's gonna be my department that I deal with,
- 57:33Speaker 1: just trying to bring as much attention to what's going
- 57:35Speaker 1: on in Louisiana as I possibly.
- 57:37Speaker 8: Can, even though that you live in Atlanta.
- 57:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I ain't gonna forget. I ain't never gonna forget
- 57:42Speaker 1: the I think I forgot.
- 57:43Speaker 3: Do you still go home often?
- 57:45Speaker 1: Though I don't go home offten Naw, I don't go often,
- 57:47Speaker 1: And that's because my family here, my son he played football.
- 57:52Speaker 1: I got business deals here, like big stuff I'm working
- 57:56Speaker 1: on out here, and Louisiana just don't have the resources
- 57:59Speaker 1: for me to be who I need to be and
- 58:01Speaker 1: to make the type of money that I'm trying to make.
- 58:04Speaker 1: So I mean, it ain't It ain't strictly because of
- 58:07Speaker 1: that situation, which it should be, because I shouldn't have
- 58:10Speaker 1: been there, seeing how they tried to take my life
- 58:12Speaker 1: away from me. It did kind of make me feel
- 58:15Speaker 1: like I don't never want to come back, But I
- 58:16Speaker 1: think I got over that and I focus on the
- 58:19Speaker 1: fact that Atlanta just got more business to offer for me,
- 58:21Speaker 1: and my son got his life set up here. So
- 58:24Speaker 1: this is where I'm at. This is just a new
- 58:25Speaker 1: chapter of my life. Atlanta. I grew up there, I
- 58:29Speaker 1: did what I was supposed to do there, and God
- 58:31Speaker 1: moved me for a reason. When God moved me, I
- 58:33Speaker 1: don't fight against God and try to go like he
- 58:36Speaker 1: gonna put me where you wanted me to be.
- 58:38Speaker 7: And you're still giving back because if you do this
- 58:41Speaker 7: law firm, you know, if you're an investor, that's still
- 58:43Speaker 7: giving back to your town right right in the whole
- 58:46Speaker 7: state of Louisiana.
- 58:47Speaker 2: Right.
- 58:47Speaker 5: Yeah, And I was thinking too, it probably like it
- 58:50Speaker 5: probably doesn't even make you feel safe even going back
- 58:52Speaker 5: because of how they tried to you know, do you
- 58:54Speaker 5: back in your hometown?
- 58:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I just got the feeling that that
- 59:00Speaker 1: safer instance, if the situation occur, you ain't got people
- 59:07Speaker 1: that's being fair. The people who making the decisions, they
- 59:10Speaker 1: not fair. So why would I Why would I put
- 59:13Speaker 1: myself in that position on purpose? You understand what I'm saying.
- 59:16Speaker 1: And who know how they feel after getting stumped and
- 59:20Speaker 1: tried like that. I want all twelve jurors. These folks
- 59:23Speaker 1: wasted all type of money from the state for nothing.
- 59:27Speaker 3: It costs a lot of money to go to try for.
- 59:29Speaker 1: They shut the whole downtown down when I did my trial.
- 59:32Speaker 1: You couldn't even come downtown. Once you exited the highway.
- 59:35Speaker 1: They had police caused what they likes on. The whole
- 59:37Speaker 1: courtroom was surrounded three hundred and sixty degrees paddy wagons,
- 59:40Speaker 1: police officers outside with weapons like they wasted a lot
- 59:43Speaker 1: of money to try to get a wrong for conviction.
- 59:47Speaker 1: And my lawd you still told me if they would
- 59:49Speaker 1: have convicted you, I would have got you out, he said,
- 59:50Speaker 1: I would have put my whole life to the side
- 59:53Speaker 1: and dedicated everything I had in the friend.
- 59:57Speaker 7: Well, like you said, you're on to a new chapter
- 59:59Speaker 7: where glad that you're free.
- 1:00:00Speaker 8: We're glad that you're out.
- 1:00:01Speaker 7: We're glad that you're telling your story and you're helping
- 1:00:04Speaker 7: other people.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: Fifty. I know you're doing your BMS, your camera right there.
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: I know you're doing your BMF and all list. But
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: you need to come check Hurricane out. Plus you just
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: got a studio and street put so we need to
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: link up so we could do the Hurricane Life store, you.
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: Know, and I'll be tuned in. I'm in.
- 1:00:21Speaker 7: I'm gonna be on the hiring page for the production crew.
- 1:00:25Speaker 8: Need to be a party.
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: Yes, you do all of the production, you know, Okay,
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: don't worry you gonna see the clips.
- 1:00:31Speaker 7: But new music coming out? You're working on new mixtape maybe?
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: Or I just dropped Hurricane Season two. I got a
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: mixtape with with Boosie Badass, Hurricane Too. It's our second one.
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: It ain't out yet. I just hear him yesterday. We
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: got it.
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: I'm glad, did you guys? You did that with him?
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: I think you two have the best distinct voice. Oh yeah,
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: in the South outside of j Z.
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: Appreciate that. Appreciate that. And then I got a single
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: car Murder that I'm releasing with Boots It as well.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: So I'm working. I'm working, working, working, and don't stop
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: with me. And I got some club bangers I'm about
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: to drop too.
- 1:01:08Speaker 8: Oh how's your son doing?
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: He good? He good?
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: He ain't playing football, football and track.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: So that's really what I be dedicated to outside of
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: the entertainment industry. But my son come first. He come
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: before the industry before anything. Like you got a football
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: game or something, you try to book me, I don't
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: care if you got thirty thousand, forty thousand, it don't matter.
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: My man.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: I'm going I gotta be my first. I ain't getting
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: booked on Christmas, you know. I look at a lot
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: of cats and they be touring on Christmas and they
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: make excuses for this. I'm like, bro, these days, you
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: ain't gonna never get back with your kids. It ain't
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: no bad And that's why I felt it was important
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: for me to learn how to make money outside of
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: the industry because you ain't finna play me out of
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: my life with my family. You know what I'm saying.
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: It's like, I feel like you you kind of like,
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: I don't know, I feel cheap at that moment, like came,
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: but you.
- 1:02:01Speaker 8: Came from Now.
- 1:02:02Speaker 7: You know your dad was with you, your mom was
- 1:02:04Speaker 7: with you.
- 1:02:05Speaker 8: You had those family values.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:02:07Speaker 7: Yeah, you put that on your son too, and he
- 1:02:10Speaker 7: knows that. Do you want any more kids?
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely, definitely. I'm gonna have some More's my.
- 1:02:15Speaker 7: Plans marriaging your plans too. I know y'all been together
- 1:02:19Speaker 7: seventeen years.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: I ain't against it. Okay, I ain't against it.
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: Now. You know what she's gonna be watching us now.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: Trust me. It's conversations in my house like this all
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: the time.
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: So the first conversation, like, I got some stuff I'm
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: working on. I can't really speak on too much. But
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: you might see it in the future, but we might
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: end up doing it on TV. You don't know.
- 1:02:40Speaker 8: Listen open invitation.
- 1:02:42Speaker 7: We hope you come back.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:02:44Speaker 4: So we just glad you you outside, you free.
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: Man, moving and grooving. Man, I'm out here, honey.
- 1:02:51Speaker 7: Did you want to plug any more of your businesses
- 1:02:53Speaker 7: or I'm good.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: I'm good. I'm good. Just make sure you follow me
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: on Instagram. You know, I don't be on my own
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: Insta that much. Instagram is Hurricane Chris Offisher. Following me
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: on that, you know, and look out for the Hurricane
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: season two. I just dropped that, and I'm gonna drop
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: a Hurricane season three. So just keep your eyes on
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: Cane and watch what I do. I'm bag working right now,
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: so it ain't no telling what you're finish. See. I
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: just signed the ar A deal with an acting agency
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: and I got some TV stuff from working on too.
- 1:03:23Speaker 7: So oh in the lawsuits, speaking of acting, because they
- 1:03:25Speaker 7: they took a lot of you know, during that three
- 1:03:27Speaker 7: year period, you had a lot of things on the
- 1:03:30Speaker 7: rise for yourself as far as acting.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: So the thing about the lawsuit is after you go
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: to trial, they not obligated to give you the court records. Okay,
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: So before I go deep into my bag with spending
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: a fload of money, I wanna make sure that it's
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: gonna be in my best interest. Cause I can very
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: easily dump a bunch of money and not even be
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: able to get the court records. So right now, I
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: gotta find an attorney that's gonna be willing to work
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: with me and go get these court records before I
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: just dump a tremendous bag. I mean, I'm gonna pay,
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: but I ain't trying to.
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: Just why do you want the court record?
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: They gotta have the court records to go over everything
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: that happened to see what was my to see what
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: they in the wrong for taking me to trial for
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: this case.
- 1:04:21Speaker 7: And the lawsuit will be failure to investigate.
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: Investigate, and you will be suing who the police department
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: and the district attorney for for wrongful of prosecution.
- 1:04:33Speaker 7: Okay, so that's underway, or that you're just trying to
- 1:04:36Speaker 7: find a.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: Lawyer who will wrong for prosecution.
- 1:04:39Speaker 8: Get the records, and then you'll proceed if.
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: That happened exactly because you and see, that's where the
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: systems so messed up. It's like if we went through
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: our list. I should be able to get all of
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: that those documents that should be my right, but they
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: gonna hold it because they know nine times out of
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: ten they slipped somewhere and did something they wasn't supposed to.
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: Do you feel me.
- 1:05:00Speaker 7: Is there a certain amount of time they co legally
- 1:05:01Speaker 7: hold it and have to release it or.
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: Nah, they do not have to release all of the
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: court documents. They do not have to release. It's strict
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: and they try the best. Every lawyer I'm sitting with
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: like they gonna try their best to not release those documents.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: So that's gonna be a fight before I can even
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: get deep into the lawsuits.
- 1:05:21Speaker 8: Well that's another key piece of the story.
- 1:05:23Speaker 7: So you know, keep writing this book, man, because I
- 1:05:26Speaker 7: feel like it's gonna come to fruition as far as
- 1:05:28Speaker 7: you're getting it on TV docum.
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm shop. I'm shopping in my life story to
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: a few different people and you know, whoever, whoever want
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: to do the best situation with me that swo I'm
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: a rock with.
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: You know, because you got a crazy you got a
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: crazy story.
- 1:05:40Speaker 8: We appreciate you staring it right here before we get
- 1:05:43Speaker 8: out of here. That we do have a pet talk.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: What's popp and I go by the name of a hurricane.
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: I come from Louisiana and I made it to Atlanta.
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: You dig what I'm saying. I just want to let
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: everybody know to have faith, keep your head up, don't
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: get sidetracked by no negativity. Keep God first. I'm slidding
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: for Jesus. New clothing line coming soon. Slid for Jesus.
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: You know that's it. I ain't gonna talk too much
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: because if you talk too much.
