- Nate: Tonight on the North American Friends Movie Club. A secret government agency. A new recruit. And everything is really silver. We watch the 1997 science fiction action comedy film Men in Black. So pop a few kernels of space corn. And pour a tall glass of sugar water. Because we're the most advanced aliens of podcasts. And this show is the laser we're shooting into your ears. is what it sounds like when we do a podcast. currently doing one. This is the North American Friends Movie Club, and you might notice something about the name of our show. And that's Friends Comes Before Movie Club. So I gotta ask my two little agents, how we doing? Good. Have we discovered any alien races this week? I don't have any extra evidence towards there being alien life except for the sheer vastness of the universe. Just I'm inclined to believe that there's probably there's it's just so big and so many stars. There's got to be there's got to be other guys around doing stuff. They're just really far away. They're so far. I heard this week, JD Vance say that if there are aliens, they are demons. And I don't think that's a very smart way to think about it. And that's probably what's gonna, I mean, there's lots of reasons why our world is going to die. And one of them could be instead of like trying to befriend aliens, we consider them demons. We treat them like demons. don't like, lately I've really been noticing over the last year, especially. People getting more more religious and I don't like that. I don't like that at all. don't like it's taking no, you're just reading the Bible. You're you're much more of a like the study. I'm like sitting here like this start of an intervention. Maybe I wonder Nate, because I agree, but it is also Holy Week for Christians. We're at this very like heavy religious time period. It's a very religious time. Yeah. So I'm curious if Brent, just give us a little teaser. Do we have any of that to look forward to this week? ⁓ It suffers a lot that they don't pick a date that this all happened on. That it's just, whatever's convenient, that ⁓ calendar year. I don't like that ⁓ aspect of it. I am dipping my toes into the New Testament. I'm almost on the Old Testament. ⁓ But I'll get that's true. We're not even in the New Testament yet with your I'm not even thinking about JC yet. No. can't wait for you to have a, a not a, ⁓ what is that called? It's a personal opinion based on your own reading of the Bible. can't wait to hear. this whole goal, the whole goal of this CBE experiment is what I come out with it. Wouldn't it be awesome if I spent 60 some hours doing the New Testament or the Old Testament and then 60 some hours in the New Testament. And then I'm like, ⁓ whatever. And that. I think that's a lot of experiences. not going to roll anything out, but we'll see. We'll see. We did get some emails. ⁓ are we going to start with an email? We're going to start with an email segment. You don't think so? Should we wait? I think we're allowed to do whatever we want. Yep. Let's start. OK, so Jay Erickson, do you have them to? What's the last one? Did we talk about Nutbunker? Yeah, we did. Yeah, I brought up Nutbunker for sure. Did we talk about Jay Erickson? I don't think so. Okay. So Jay Erickson emailed us on the March 14th. says, Brothers, love the show. I'm thankful for all the laughs over the years. And I think all three of you are amazingly talented and funny. Also, now that Brent is so smart, I'm learning so many things as I'm listening. Sad I can't listen to borderline was always wondering about that. Finally, can I join the Spanish angels? mostly just, I'll mostly just leave compliments for Brent. Thanks Jay. ⁓ No, you can't join Spanish angels. It's not, it's not that type of organization. don't want to join the Spanish Nazis. And if you did join the Spanish Angels and solely just give me compliments, you will be chewed up and spit out as a heretic. You will be treated like you are speaking ill of the creator and you will be destroyed. If he speaks kindly of you. That's correct. Yeah. Yeah, there's nothing worse than being a friend to Banna Brent inside the Spanish Angel chat. That's correct. I what was my take I had yesterday? ⁓ yeah, McDonald's should get more into eggs. More? Yeah. Not enough yet. They got to get to the egg game. Like put some eggs on some burgers, little runny egg there. I'm surprised they actually haven't done a little egg burger. that I think about it. No one's doing the egg burger. Where is it? Where? McDonald's. No, it's too messy. You can't do that. You would need to have it like a breakfast one where it's not runny. And you can't have a like soft boiled egg on a hamburger. I think that defeats the purpose of the egg on the hamburger. And a non runny egg is disgusting. Like it's truly it makes it so much worse. Well, maybe you guys belong in the Spanish angels because this is the reaction I got. I don't think that I just don't think that's the right thing for a beef burp. Like so for a breakfast. sandwich, I can do a softer hard boiled like a egg McMuffin. Yeah. But the beef patty needs the runniness. know, and the technology is there for that to happen. They're worried about salmonella. Now, yes. So would McDonald's. So would the McDonald's corporation, I think that's probably why they don't do the over easy. I agree. That's the word I'm looking for over easy. Well, thank you, Jay. Thank you so much for listening. You are a true brother. And Jay, one day we will have a North American Friends Movie Club Discord and it'll be a much, better place than the Spanish Angels, which is like a toxic waste dump full of plutonium and slimes. No, it's a speakeasy of thoughts and opinions. It's like a speakeasy. It's like a bar where the ghoul from Fallout would hang out. right. That's exactly right, Nate. And that's where I want to be. We got another email on March 17th. This is from John Konecker. Sorry, John. Dear North American friends, I thought Brent might like to know that Goliath gets killed by two different people in the Bible. Everyone has heard the David story found in first Samuel chapter 16 through 18. But in second Samuel 21 19, it says that someone named Elhanan killed a giant named Goliath. Academic scholars think that the second story is probably the older original one. Later, when the stories of David became more prominent, the older story was retold giving David the credit. Here's a blog post with more details. I hope that Brent can drop. this tidbit into conversation in the most insufferable way possible. No, that's a strain. am getting a strain for? No, he's supporting you. Insufferable is not a good word. I could tell you some wild stuff about the Noah's story, the Noah flood story too, but I don't want to go on too long. Let me know if you're curious. By the way, the name of the Rose has come up on the podcast before in a way. See attached image. Have a great week, John. So he screenshot a picture of Nate's cartoon of Nate. And there is a book, name of the roasts behind him. Yeah. Cause I drew all the books I own and then I put them in my picture. That's very perceptive by John. Cause the fact that me and Catherine stare at it, we never noticed it ever. I brought me so much joy because that was like one of my more insane projects when I was drawing our cartoon guys. spent like a truly unhinged amount of time drawing them, even though you can't really see them and nobody watches the videos. But it was like I spent so much time drawing every individual book. Like I drew it big and then I shrunk it down and put it on the shelf like in real life. And then I it big and like for like hundreds of books. Uh, and so that somebody did notice I'm like, it was worth it. was worth every second. It was correct. was correct. There's some Easter eggs in there for folks if they pay attention. Yep. We got another email from Pete Lynch on March 20th, a continuation of his other one. Dear Madam Insers, I was able to, I was able to listen to your radio program this week and I appreciate you addressing my concerns in regard to your followup questions. I live in a South suburb of Chicago, essentially the Festus of Illinois. Very nice. I wonder if you grow up quick there. ⁓ they grow up quick. While I appreciate the compliment, attractive would not be the best descriptor for me. People most often say he basic. I noticed you did not indicate whether you will give us your valuable email address, but I assume that's because you're still consulting with your lawyers. All the best Pete. Pete, we have consulted with our lawyers and we will be retaining the email address. Yeah, it's a copyright issue. There's different copyright documents and ⁓ they were notarized. So they got that crinkle thing. They got that stamp on the paper. We can't do anything. It's beyond us. It's beyond our capacity to help you. Then we got one final email. from Dan Kaiser six days ago, which would be whatever six days ago was. Hello, Nate, Kate, and Brent. Firstly, I thank you all for the weekly hour of humor and 20 minutes of untouched film breakdown. am finally in front of my computer while listening to you all filter through the North American Friends Movie Club pod and read Nutbonkers email aloud. This podcast is a fantastic hour of relief from the day to day. And I constantly think about all of the who's from Whoville living in Argentina and the, and hum the weekly report to in the shower. I just needed to email in to give Brent his flowers. I have attended Catholic school up until the fourth grade. I have now learned more about the Bible from Brent's current Bible experience, the CBE, then from sister Wanda, my elementary school teacher, quite literally doing the Lord's work. Inshallah you will take. Inshallah. I can't say it. You will. You will take on the Quran next. We'll see about that. Still waiting for the National Treasure episode. Much love from Philadelphia, Dan. Wait, didn't we do the National Treasure episode? so Dan's going to have to get on ⁓ on board and go back to the past episodes. First of all, sister Wanda can get fucked because I come in. Yeah, exactly. And maybe you'll start interpreting the Bible better and better explaining it like a little Brent Akay here. Yeah. Who would have thought this time last year that I would have turned this show in to a heavy religious podcast? I think it's going to be so funny when they make you a saint. Like it'll be one of the biggest, greatest surprises of my life. Dan, that is very nice. Thank you. I do try to break the Bible down into ⁓ consumable pieces for the current hectic mind. And I think I do a good job at it. I break it down to no fancy words. I don't repeat it over and over again. I just give you the bare bones and let you assemble them the way you see fit. Yeah, it's a secular retelling. So there's no like... No, no, it's secular analysis. Secular analysis. That's it. Yeah. That's it. That's it. Anybody can just read it and spew back what they read. But I go, I dive deep and I'm playing operation with it. But basically the Bible is not a book. It's a game of operation where I get inside of it, take out the pieces I feel are important and assemble a story for everybody. You sure do. So if anyone else wants to write us an email, where should they send that email? North American friends movie club. No. No. North American friends, movie club at gmail.com. Hell yeah. No, you were so confident. I had my eyes closed. Dot com. I also want to let everyone know that North American friends movie club ⁓ has an Instagram now. It is NAFMC pod at NAFMC pod. Please follow us on Instagram. if you enjoy Instagram. Why don't you tell us what happened, Catherine? Give us a weekly report. know that's yeah, I'm confused. Wow. You guys are really shit in the bed on this. No, I'm going to tell you what's happening. OK, so I'm getting older and as you get older, your body changes, your body changes and I apparently have run into That when my extremities get cold, they turn numb now and I don't like it. It's causing a lot of discomfort. I hate numb. I hate it. One of my least favorite feelings. It makes me anxious. It makes me feel like I have multiple sclerosis or like I'm having a stroke or like I just. a life altering condition. Yes, exactly. And it like catastrophize. And really, I just need to like warm up my toes or hands like. And then the feeling comes on your leg. Yeah. Right. After we watched the Sherlock Holmes movie, I started watching Young Sherlock Holmes. Which is on crime. Is it good? Yes. And it's him in college. So he's college age. He's like 18 or 19. So he still fucks. Good, good, good. OK. He meets Moriarty in the first episode, like Do they have a little like homoerotic ⁓ energy at all? They're into the babes. They're into the babes. OK, I hope we get this. I hope they look at each other longingly at at least one point during the Young Sherlock season one. I would hope so, too. And they are like ⁓ the Cumberbatch show. So it's like a little movie. You get like basically like 90 minutes of an episode, which is pretty cool. I was about I was about to watch it and then I decided not to. But. Or like I was like, I'll watch this later. But I was kind of looking forward to it. Yeah, you'll like it. I went bowling and I want you guys to guess what I bowled. Nick and I bowled the same thing. What was our score? Wow. You tied. We tied. We got big, balls. Bowling? Yeah, bowling. Yeah. Like the big ball. Oh, OK. I thought that was like one of Nick's nicknames that I had forgotten about. was like, do we call it big balls? score you got. didn't know there were small balls. We only have one kind of bowling here. The one I was nine pounds. I have a nine pound ball. We five pin bowling here with the small ball, which is super fun and I love it. But big bowling is also really fun. We don't have the small ball. We have candle pin bowling with small balls, ten pins. Isn't that interesting? That's a third kind of bowling. That's all three of us experience different types of bowling, but bowling is one of the most universally popular activities. Is that a fact? I think, I think bowling is still popular, like in the sense of like everything is separated now. So nothing is really popular, but people are still bowling. I think if I had been this age in 1970 and eighties, I'd be bowling probably three times a week. I think that's right up my alley. ⁓ Right up my alley. That was awesome. was awesome. Friend of the program, Jody, our Quizmaster, sometimes he is in a bowling league on every Tuesday evening and we get him to send videos of him bowling and we enjoy those and he goes for hibachi before every league night. What a lovely evening. So I just type in the Spanish angels, Japanese shrimp. Question mark and he says, yep tonight. And that's that's code name for bowling. And he he shows his videos of him throwing the kachunks down down the alley. Does he get a lot of strikes? You see he seems pretty good from what I see and from what he tells us. come out? Does his leg go? No, mine does. It's a very compact. does. Kate, yours does? Damn, I'd love to see Kate throw that thing. Pete Webber, who do you think you are? I am. Yeah, absolutely. So what do you think? yeah. Matching score was OK. OK. I'm going to say if 300 is the best, right? I think that's like perfect. OK. Yeah. I'm going to say you bold a one eighty two. Oh, I'm going to say a 207. No, you guys are. feeling we don't know much better than we are. Yeah, we we time seconds ago. You're talking about your form. I mean, I don't bowl that frequently, but I was taught how to bowl in high school in cool. used to go to the bowling alley and we got taught how to bowl the correct way. We taught math in high school. I can't carry those skills over now, so that doesn't mean anything. Should have gone to Festus, babe. Would have grown up a lot quicker. That's true. You would have also bowled a 145. And tied. forty five. Nice. How many strikes do you guys get during the one forty five? Did anyone get a strike? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I got it. Do you think you. I probably got three strikes and three spares. Damn. Something like that. No big deal. Did you get to see any good animations when you hit a strike? And if so, what was your favorite? a turkey that game. Yeah, so I got three strikes at a row. Taylor sister. Yeah. Taylor sister. It's a picture of you and your sister. You're like, how did you get this? It just pops up on the screen of you guys on vacation. I would love that. You're to fuck around and get yourself a nickname here, Kate. You keep throwing 145s up. The turkey? Hell yeah. I was just telling Nick, I think one of the coolest nicknames somebody has is Matthew McConaughey's brother and they call him Brewster. And I think that is the coolest nickname. Rooster's really cool. He didn't agree with me. did not think Rooster Alus and Chains song came out. I almost I don't think I've ever disagreed with Nick on this podcast, but I'm just gonna say it. You're wrong, Nick. Rooster's good. You're fucking wrong. Rooster is a He thought I was trying to float it for myself, though, maybe. OK, OK, yeah. like, don't want to be in relationship with the Rooster. You're not that guy. You go into his phone and change your contact name to the Rooster. He changed his best friend, Bo's name to love butter. Number one, because he won. Do you, it was last year. He did the barbecue contest and whatever. I don't know. And it's still a dysphonia is love butter. Anyway. Okay. I digress. We also on Sunday, I ⁓ organized a meeting of the Kansas city kite flyers club. And that is a club where you, where you go to the park with a kite and you fly in Kansas city. K. C. K. F. C. Yup. K. C. K. F. C. Yes. Yes. It's my favorite. You're definitely going to end up with a big thing. I want to have merch. I want it to be like a thing. I love flying kites and anyone that goes to fly a kite and you and we have good kites, not like the plastic ones that are like for Barbie, they're five dollars. Like these are like 20, 20 bucks. Oh, well, listen to what's going on. released all of the string. So this string was over 100 yards long for sure. Holy shit. High in the sky. And Juliet was like, ⁓ and I was like starting to wind it up because it takes like 30 minutes to wind it up because a lot of string. Yeah. And I give it to Juliet. And I let go to look away and I come back and she screams and she has accidentally let go of the kite and I sprinted. after the kite, the blue, windy thing. So the end that you hold the kite with was always two feet in front of me. I sprinted so quickly for like it had to have been. It was a football field's length. And so it's all open. There's not there's a ton of people at the park, but nobody's where we are because we chose the place where there's not very many people. And I'm getting to where the walking path is. There's a whole bunch of people and I'm yelling while this is still like two feet in front of me the whole time. I'm like a, I'm like a dog on the dog track chasing the rabbit. You know what mean? I am in my head while I'm running. I'm like, I am running so fast. I'm running so fast. And I'm like, And so the people are trying and like, finally this woman steps on it. And I'm like right next to her when she does it. anyway, and I'm like, thank you so much. Thank you. Was the most exciting thing that's happened to me. ⁓ I was excited listening to it. Honestly, I'm like, imagine you running like a Greyhound after that kite and then a lady being that cool to just step on it like. I got three things to say about your story is be funny if the person that stopped the kite was Travi. Will. Second, you should combine your other new hobby with the roller blades. Rollerblade with the kite. ⁓ the windsurfing action. Yeah, we discussed what the kite take you. Let the kite go where you need to go. I'm not there yet. I'm not there yet physically. ⁓ it's a good goal. Third is. The book, The Kite Runner, I don't know if you guys have read that. This is exactly what I told my father this story. And that was his his next response was about was there was there glass shards on the on the string? Just going to say that you should you should dip your string in some in some glue or resin and then dip it in some broken glass and then cut other people's kites down. Is that what I had? I have no idea what The Kite Runner. I've heard of it, but I no idea what it's about. biography about someone who grew up in Afghanistan before the fall of democracy there. And that's one of the games they ⁓ they had fighting kites. You in Bloodsport, Nate, you know in Bloodsport, I don't know if it's Bloodsport or Enter the Dragon, what movie was it? They dip their hands in the glue and then in the broken glass, then they fight. Do you know why I know about that, Brent? I never actually saw that movie, but I did see this ⁓ one movie a lot when I was a kid called Hotshots Part. And they do. And he dips his hand in the gummy bears. And that was really that's really like seared into my mind. when you're. Me too, brother. Me too. So that's what it is. But it's kites. They dip their their strings in glue or whatever, something sticky. And then they put glass and sand on it. And then you take your kite to someone else's kite and cut the string. That's what needs to do. Battle kites. You would dominate the park. I would. But I want more people to fly kites. I don't want less people to fly kites. It's kind of inspired me. I'm like, think I'm going to buy my niece a kite and buy myself a kite. And I think we're going to go fly some kites. It is so fun. I can't tell you. I got a credit card. I could buy one that's like a plane or a blimp. I could buy anything. I want. That's what the best thing being an adult is. It's so cool. Yeah. And then my last thing, I have terrible news for those of us that like ⁓ Joey Fatone is a member of the NSYNC band. And I saw a photo of him at Mar-a-Lago and it ruined my day. ⁓ no, you can't be doing that in this year 2026. So what we've had happen this week is we've got confirmation that Joey Fatone and Vince Vaughn are MAGA. And so now we know that and we must move forward with that information. They saw the ICE stuff going on and they're like, yes, for this. This is good. War in Iran. More like more in Iran. Let's go. He just kind of clings himself on to whatever is popular at that moment. Like boy bands were popular. He found his way in somehow get into that band. He's like, OK, well, the Republicans are popular now. I'm going to be a Republican. They're not, though. Even though they're they're the ones who'll take them. He's getting airtime on one of the biggest movie podcasts in the world right now. So obviously he's doing something right. Lance Bass is better. We love Lance Bass. We're okay with Justin Timberlake. He's having some issues. Like anytime somebody who is a rich celebrity drives drunk, it like makes me think of them as a kind of stupid that I can't like comprehend. I feel the same way about Tiger Woods. It's like, again, Tiger? Hells, Brother, like get a guy. The pictures that came from Tiger Woods' crash are very funny. That was the cleanest looking Kyra flipped over ever. He's on hardcore. He's an he's probably an opiate addict, if we're being honest. That's what they found in his pocket. Two hundred. Yeah, the pills because he got a sore knee. So he's chewing on them pills. That's what's been happening. But I want to talk about Tiger before we stop what's happening. What's happening is Tiger's car flipped over. A, almost impossible to flip a car over. It's very hard. in movies and the stunt people, they have to have special equipment to pop a car up on the side like that. Tiger just did it in Florida on a Tuesday. That's impressive. That's how good of an athlete he is. He's elite. He's elite at everything. He really, and he put that thing down on its side, clean as a whistle, no scratches, no broken glass. It looked like someone just had to tip it back over and it would have been good to go. And the picture of me coming out of jail, that's a rough one. So I was reading on Reddit, people have been replying that nobody in his neighborhood likes him because he races everywhere and they have these very narrow streets and half of it is always blocked by lawn care service men. Like, it was bound to happen. Yeah, it's very disappointing, especially because I had been kind of having good feelings about Tiger. We love a comeback. Yeah, he went through all this time and then I saw him and his son like playing golf together and him and his son are getting along. I'm like, good luck. He went through all this trouble. He came back from adversity and now he's going to be a good man. It's like, nah, he's going to be like this forever. He'll just be like this forever. Okay, well that's what happened. That's what happened. That's what happened. That's what happened. You just want to know what happened this week? You just want to know what happened this week? Yeah. I'm mad at my insurance people for my car. It was 100 % not our fault that it was ruled by the police and everybody that we got hit in an intersection, it was their fault. But we still had to pay the deductible. And when I emailed them, said, well, we didn't receive any insurance information from the other people. I'm like, well, isn't that your whole job is to get their insurance information? I live in America. You got to do everything yourself. If you don't get it when they have the accident, it doesn't exist and they won't give it to you. And did you have their name? Yeah, we had her name. But then I don't feel like it's our responsibility to call the cops to get their information. I'm not a detective. I am with you, Brent. And that the insurance should do is like you guys want that money. Like you could go in. But it's not they don't care how they get it because they're going to get it from him anyway. So it's on our like this is very American of Canada to do it. Very I hate it when we do American stuff. Sorry, guys. You're taking a. Not impressed with that. I did put my house on the market. We put it on the market in the morning and it was, we had an offer that we accepted that night. It goes by so quick. Yeah, we big dog the market basically. ⁓ The realtors are great. They got one of the guys, he did a drone video, which I didn't know was happening because I would have been all over I was really looking for you when I launched it. I would have been in the background. would like he went, he flew that thing above the house and the neighborhood. It looked beautiful. It really makes your town look nice. Yeah. I would have been in the bushes. I would have been high cars and I would have been any, I would have been all over the place in that video. If I had known. Did I tell you, I sent the picture of his shoes to him? No. We drove by when he was doing it. Um, and he took his shoes off. had the blundstones on. took them off and laid them on the step and then went in the house and I zoomed in on the shoes. took a picture and then I sent it to our, uh, realtor group chat with me, Melissa and the two realtors and it went over well. I've been killing in that group. Yeah. And they, so they started sending gifts back and forth. It's basically just a riff fest. It's just a riff from Would to share the name of your realtor company too? The Rosettos, Carol and Tony, absolutely killing it. Carol and Tony Rosetto are our finest real estate agents. In Nova Scotia. Taking off the shoes before going inside the house like that is considerate realtor. Those are Italians. ⁓ they've been killing it. They've been killing it in response to me and my gifts. I have one. You have to laugh at the owner of the house. Yeah, you do have a captive audience. He's certainly trying to yuck my young right now. I you are hilarious. I choose to do a comedy podcast with you. You are. you are hilarious. And all things can be true. OK, the next bit I did with them is I went in the house the next day and I couldn't find my broom. And I posted in the group that I can't find my broom. And then I typed up a status on Facebook that said the Rosettos are nothing but broom thieves. And I didn't post it. I just took a screenshot and said, if the broom is not located within an hour, this is being posted. Been killing it. Just killing it. Did you find your broom? Where was the broom? The funny thing is the next day I found an extra broom. I found three brooms. So I somehow came out with an extra broom. My religious studies continue to be intensive. I still on the Bible. We're at the tail end of the Old Testament, which is just a lot of recap, which I'm not a big fan of. And but I did watch the movie Noah starring Russell Russell Crowe, Russell Crowe and Jennifer We're Crowe bros. We're Crowe bros on this show. It was quite it was quite the adventure. They took some liberties in that movie. there cleavage in this biblical? You can see her top of one scene when she's crying over a dead body, but not tough. Yeah. ⁓ they did. Mithusla, which is Tony hop. Don't he? Yeah. Yeah. He made this girl, ⁓ her, her womb was barren and which was, ⁓ what's her name from Harry Potter Watson. Yeah. She was barren and she felt she was no good to go on the arc because she can't repopulate the world. then Tony hop touched her stomach and made her not barren. then she immediately went and had sex. Good for her. Literally not even 10 seconds after her, her stomach's hurting gold. Interesting. She just went and did it. And then it was, I described movie as the Bible meets pirates of the Caribbean. Okay. I'm going to watch it now. Yeah. I'm going to watch it Cause you said that. That's it. Did it good music? No, not particularly. No. Special effects were kind of wild for that time. I don't know, was Darren Afrinovsky did it. Yeah. He did? I don't know what he I remember that. That's like what's surprising about it. Yeah. Yeah. He had the Watchers as cave people that made it a rocks and they were just like, they had inner angels inside the moose. It was a good time. Whoa. So my Bible things, I moved down to my new house. bed is higher than what my normal bed is. So I'm struggling to sleep. I feel like I'm going to fall off. What do mean? You didn't take your bed? No, no. This is a brand new bed. The houses come with beds in Cape Breton. Yep. Wow. Yeah, this is never heard of such a thing. Yeah, it's but it's high and I keep on feel like I'm going to fall off and die off the floor. Yeah. So when you get next more modern style beds. Newer, more modern style beds that get you up there, Princess and the P style. Yes. Do you like the mattress? Yeah, everything else is fine, except it's too high. And I know if I fall, it's going to make a funny, funny, funny sound. Do you fall off the bed a lot? I feel like I am now because it's so high up. I'm used to sleeping against the wall. My other bed was against the wall. In nursing homes, we give people fall mats. Remember the special aid brand had to get I had to do the forward roll, so no more forward rolls, but you need a fall mat so that you know that if you fall you won't crash. I'm gonna put some pillows down on the side. That's what you do when you're older. Yes. You don't want to get more injured or no, you just put up some rails, Brent. Just put up a rail on your side. Some bowling alley bumpers. Exactly. Inflatable bumpers. I don't know what I'm going to do. I feel like I'm at a hotel. not. still in that period. That's awesome. ⁓ Yeah, but not used to sleep and why I have that the wall next to me as my security is my seatbelt. I don't have that now. Yeah, I completely relate, though. Can you move your bed to the wall? No, no, that's that. Our room is huge. That would be no. I get it. Feeling uncomfortable or yeah, I also get the like for when I was growing up, especially I always had my bed in the corner and I used to really like to sleep on couches because you're like you're basically against a soft wall. So you can like use it to rest your body against the soft wall of the couch. That's right. I've, I've, I've grew out of it, but I still, ⁓ I still yearn for the womb of a couch bed. ⁓ I love that. I like the idea that we're calling couches, soft walls, a soft seat. Do have any soft seats? You know what I mean? Like instead of asking if someone has like a upholstered chair or couch. You have a soft seat have far too much space in this room where I feel like I'm going to hurt myself. Like we have a bench, just a bench at the end of the bed. Dogs use it to jump on to the bed. They hit the bench and they go on the bed. now it's basically a dog ladder at this point. Or it could be for Brent. I just have to adapt to the size. side of the bed. Put some pillows on there. Now you got a wall of soft. No, I just got, I got a man up and just do it normally. Do it the old fashioned way and just get over it. Yep. You're going to get used to sleeping with an abyss next to you. Fancy. I also, I dipped into start of the New Testament and I know I'm going to love it because Joseph just saying that, oh yeah, I knew that my wife was going to get pregnant by not me and playing it off to all his buddies saying, oh yeah, God told me it was going to happen. Yeah. Actually, we talked to, he talked to me first actually. He asked me first. It's like Mary went to a bachelor at weekend in Nashville and then he's like, ⁓ yeah, I knew that was going to happen. Yeah. We talked about it. So that's my week. ⁓ it's a, it's been a quiet week of just moving. Moving is for suckers, but everyone has to do it and I'm doing it without complaining. Are you tired? I can hear it in you that you seem tired. Combine the, the, the, lack of sleep because of the high bed with the moving and the CRPS. ⁓ I need one of those chairs that go up the stairs, motorized rail chairs. That'd be nice. May I suggest ⁓ dropping some bags maybe? Yeah, drop a few bags. The wisdom of the East. The super ginger honey tea is at my old house. I have to go pick it up. Trials and tribulations, man. It's hard week for Brenty. Yep, it is. But we just keep on going. Keep on keeping on. And we will raise money for you to get a motorized chair up the stairs. I will never, even if I lose my legs, I will never use one. I will one in my house now just to use it for I believe 100 percent, I 100 percent believe that. Yeah, ride that Why wouldn't we want The rooster taking the rails, rooster on the rails. I saw a video of like a dog riding one up and it's like this dog does this every night and it's like one of the neighbors filming this dog riding the chair up. That's the other thing is. Clark, Eddie will go up and down. Clark will go up, but he won't go down unless you put him on the top step yourself, then he'll go down. It's it's just, it's exhausting. Oh, it's exhausting. I feel like it's handler. It's just exhausting. Um, we're going to need the weekly report, Nate. Let's do the weekly report. I've been, I've had like one of the busiest weeks ever. Just been the busiest guy because it was like the last week before Dale moves in and my sister moves in. So I was so I had so much work to do upstairs just to get it ready for Dale scrubbing and painting and getting all my fucking tools and stuff out of there. And then my sister came over and we built all the furniture for her room. I just want to. I feel like this is a very good way to describe how busy I've been is I did not work out. on Sunday or Monday. No exercise, no walks, no nothing. Sunday, 14,000 steps. Monday, 20,432 steps. Whoa! So you did work out, you just did work out. Yeah, exactly. I went up and down like the stairs a million billion times and was lifting and I was so sore on Monday when I got to work. And I was only halfway done the day of work at the house. It's like, oh my God, I'm so tired. I'm so sore. How did it feel though to be done? Like that had to have been like a nice sense of accomplishment. Yeah, I think it's I'm gonna. My sister's going to move in today. Dale moved in yesterday. My sister is going to move in today. I'll get her all set up. I still have a bunch of stuff to do. And then once my sister is in and settled, then I think I'm going to have a moan of like. Real. true enjoying relaxation. I might even play a video game. I might even play a video game. You haven't played a video game in months. I probably haven't. I probably haven't played a video game since like January. Yeah, you're maturing. I really am really growing up. And, ⁓ Kitchen Report, I've been eating, it's been a big bok choy week. I've been working in bok choys into my routine and it's been great. Is that a leek? Is that a kind of? It looks like it, but it's much more neutral, or like it doesn't have the leek. Leek's quite flavorful. Bok choy just tastes like cabbage. Almost like a very mild cabbage. Isn't the Japanese cabbage is now a park. think it probably is in the cabbage family. Chinese Chinese Choi cabbage. That's how language works. That's how it works. I think it's Japanese, but I don't know. Asian bok, Asian bok cabbage, Asian cabbage. Asian cabbage. Oh, no, I was wrong. It's a nutrient dense Chinese cabbage. You're right, Kate. As usual. yeah, that's it. But that's it. I've been so busy with everything that I like. I haven't had any like even no life. No, no, exciting. Just exercise, paint, sweep and mop. That's been my week. You are packed with the vitamins A, and K though. I want to give you your flowers, Nate, because as I told you last week, made my clients, their homework was to dance. And so yesterday I had I had five private clients. A lot of trauma. had two of them and then I had 30 minutes and then I had three of them. And it was so these were like hard clients. And within that 30 minutes, I danced to three songs. And I got to tell you, game changer. It's really a game changer. It's it's real. We joke about a lot of shit on this podcast. I'm never joking about dancing. And I was I can't. I'm going to keep dancing and I will I will talk about maybe some dance moves that I've done. I really fell into like some cheerleading moves like. Yeah. Which I don't love. I'm not I'm not I wasn't happy about that. You're like me for real. I just kind of just like me for real. Because you start, you know, you get into it, then you get into the analysis mode like, wait, I need to like I'm do it. have habits. I'm leaning on certain things I need to like. need to expand. need to grow. need to become a greater artist because that's what a dancer is. Just an artist with their body. am most inspired by the ballroom movement and voguing and like this stuff. Sure. I really want to learn how to do that. Yeah. But I do not look like that right now. Doesn't matter. It's right. It doesn't matter. I like is that we are taking credit for inventing Zumba. It's not Zumba though. It's Zumba. It's freestyle dance. directed. it's directed aerobic dancing is fine. And I hope lots of you will keep doing directed aerobic dancing. ⁓ We're talking about jazz, body jazz. We're talking about body jazz. We're talking about somatic movements, whatever your body is needing. And I was doing shoulders and I was doing one shoulder and then the other one. I like to like get to like the beat like bop. Yes. Much like a bad teenage chef at McDonald's, I have egg on my face. I'm sorry. So I encourage everybody to experiment and just choose one song and dance to it. Start with one. Yes. I also, my also suggestion is do it when you're alone. ⁓ only do it when you're alone. Yeah. You have to like, it's very hard to express yourself in front of other people, but if you can Get comfortable with expressing yourself to yourself. You will know thyself better. To me, that is a major part of why I wanted my clients to do it is because they have such internalized judgment and shame that like you got to get to like let yourself just be like non-judgmentally. You're here. Yes. You're here in the space. Yes. You want to be yourself and not feel alien. That's right, Brent. Speaking of not wanting to feel alien, it's April. It's time for a new month and the new month is movies that have secret information or contain a secret. So Nate, tell people what we watched. We watched the 1997 classic Men in Black starring Thomas Lee Jones and Will Smith. And I would love it. William Smith, sorry. I would love it if Kate would tell us what happens in this movie. I will do my best. Men in Black starts out with Will Smith, who's an NYPD cop, chasing a suspect. And the suspect is doing crazy inhuman stuff. And Will Smith is following him. And he finally catches up with them. And then the suspect kills himself. And then Tommy Lee Jones gets there and he's like, wow, I actually believe that you saw his eyes look. crazy and he did these things. And then he's like, you're pretty good guy. ⁓ Here you go. Do you come to this place? And Will Smith comes to this place and there's all these real fancy young guys in uniforms and ripped horns like you guys are the best of the best. You're going to be a part of this group after these tests and they do all the tests and Will Smith's the one that thinks outside the box. And so they choose Will Smith to be a men in black. And it is revealed. The secret is that ⁓ aliens have visited our planet for many years and that they use earth as kind of an intermediary planet, like a neutral zone. And so there's a story about, so there's a bug, there's a race of bugs that come and colonize. They're real dangerous. And it takes on the skin of Vincent D'Onofrio and it tries to steal the universe and the universe, because we're thinking like, oh, the universe is to be giant. Like that can't hide on earth. But yet it is on Orion's belt and Orion is a cat and its belt is its neck and the universe is on a little dangle on his neck. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones saved the little universe and the type of people, alien people live. And then Tommy Lee Jones decides that he doesn't want to be a man in black anymore. And so he, he shoots himself with the thing that erases your memory, which is how we're able, how they're able to erase people's memories. So they don't know about aliens and that's been in black. It's one of the best ones you've ever done. Look at how happy you are because you did so well. Let's talk about our favorite parts. Let's talk about our favorite parts. ⁓ first of all, the reason this movie is so memorable, in my opinion, is because of the brain eraser. Everyone talked about the brain eraser after they saw this movie. And I would love to have a brain eraser so bad. How come? Just to get out of mild situations. Nothing, nothing nefarious. Yeah, Kyle with the pea bucket just. Yeah. Yeah. Set that thing back five minutes. What pea bucket? Yeah. Like, ⁓ most of your pissed in this bucket by looks of things. Tiger Woods would love to have this thing. ⁓ Tiger? He'd have flipped fucking 80 cars by now. He would be living his best life on fucking opiates right now. He would spend most of his life just spinning in the air in a car. looking forward to watching this movie. I don't know why. ⁓ I'm surprised. I know. And I think it's because this time when it came out was like, I don't know. I don't love the 90s. This to me is like so 90s. And then I watched it and I was like, this is so easy. This is the tightest little baby. TLB. It's like it's amazing. It's amazing how little time they spend. Setting anything up there just like, know what we're doing. You get it right. And we're all like, yeah, we get it. It was made for fourth graders and I love it. Like everything is like explained, but not overly explained. Like we're not trying to get too into the weeds with anything. And it clips, it clips along. It doesn't drag at all. It goes from like Tommy Lee Jones shoots his way out of the bug and like a minute and 15 seconds later, he's sitting on the curb like I'm ready to retire. Like it's that fast. And they're completely dry. They were covered in goo, which is great. Goo work, the way, this movie. Really good good work. And they were completely dry. Like if you were pitching this movie, you would think that this was going to be a three and a half hour movie because the universe is on a cat's collar. Ryan's belt. You think this is going to be in depth? Nope. Nope. We're going to have an hour and a half. You're in and out. So much. practical stunts too, which I really like. Like they obviously used a lot of CGI, especially for that time. But now looking back on it, there was still a lot of practical stunts too, which I And a lot of like blended stuff like that. part where the guy's face opens and there's a little alien inside. It's like it's practical effects to open the face and then part of that alien is practical. then with like CGI added to it to make him look like more real. It's like really cool movie magic. think it won an Oscar for makeup because special effect makeup. Yeah, you could give me the top of the line equipment and gear and all the time in the world and I would not be able to recreate the scene where he's delivering the tentacle baby. and he's getting flopped around by the tentacle. No idea how they did that. That's movie magic, baby. That is movie magic. It's really good scene because it's like it's also kind of indicative of this movie because they do the exposition while that's happening in the background, like even during the exposition where like Tommy Lee Jones is talking to that guy and getting like, ⁓ why are you leaving? ⁓ this is why you're getting like you're moving the story along. then behind him, Will Smith is getting thrown around by an alien. like this movie doesn't even waste 45 seconds for talking. It's like something is always happening in this movie. This movie was nominated for Academy Awards in best art direction, best makeup, and best original musical or comedy score. And it won best makeup. Yeah. ⁓ yeah. I watched this movie and I enjoyed this movie way more this watch than I did originally. This looked fucking amazing to me now. I don't know if it was just a different TV I watched on or what was going on, but this looked like this is the best effects I ever saw in a movie. It looks great. It up. holds up. Like if I'm doing special effects and the director comes to me, he's like, hey, we want we're going to shoot Tony Shalhoub's head off and then you got to make it explode and grow into a new head. I'd like, look, you know what? No, this can't be done. Push it away. Tony Shalhoub has never looked worse. He's so disgusting looking. His teeth. So what? While his googly eyes. Yeah, I couldn't even tell which like Tony Shalhoub looks so interesting that I genuinely was like, which one's the fake guy and which one's the real eye? I don't know. Good. Yeah. What his eyes are really like. No, I think everyone's doing a lot of face work in this movie like Vincent D'Onofrio is doing like some in wild face work in this movie. When he walks around, that's how I feel when I'm really sore. That's how I move around. Like Frankenstein? A lot of jerky motions and... His noises man. I was happy with there's not a ton of violence. Like it's not... I don't know. I liked the balance of action with story. Yeah, there's a lot of like getting like... knocked like a bug will like knock you and you'll go flying super far into a dumpster. That's I like that a lot better than like, we're talking about the effects and how amazing everything looked and how it holds up and all that. But I did like that when it was time to have the fast car scene instead of making a really fast car, they just sped up the film. I really like that too. I really like that too. That was some guy at one o'clock in the morning is like, I'm tired, man. I'm not going to, I'm just going this up. 2X, boom, hit that button. There's your scene. Did you like the pug? Frank the pug? thought that was very funny. I did not used to think that was funny, but that scene of him shaking a dog really got me at age 44. Yeah. Cause he's really, because it's Tommy Lee Jones. You know how serious Tommy Lee Jones is and they got him on set with a little dog puppet and it's like a real... Funky dog puppet where the neck is like kind of loose and goosey. So he's like shaking this rubber bug around. If you have no responsibilities, do you accept a job in the Men in Black? I would, yeah, because I'd just be so curious. I'd be so curious to know about ⁓ secret, the secret worlds of the secret of secrets. Yeah. And you'd be so powerful with your knowledge. And also I'm a rule breaker too. So I'd still, you know, smooch ladies, just be secret about it. I think you can. Yeah, you're like in the CIA. Yeah. Use the brain eraser. Yeah. Even I'd use it on myself so that they can't even get me in the lie detector. That's I'd cover my tracks. ⁓ I think the brain. If we see we're going back to the brain eraser again, that's it's such a good idea. I would be very upset if I was any of the celebrities that caught us stray in this movie as they are. They're really aliens like Dennis Robin at the end. Like no need. Yeah, he's kind of a. This was before he went to North Korea too. He's not a good guy. I love that that's a sentence that you said. Is this he went to North Korea? Yeah. I love, I enjoyed this movie, like I said, a lot more than I did originally, but the ending, so 90s with the little glasses and the little tie thing. hated it so much. didn't like that. I like the old ones. Yeah, I like the older ones too. was like, no, we're... It's too modern. It's too modern for the Cardellini became women in black, which was very... No, I think it's important, even if it's a singular person and even if it's a woman, she's still a men in black. What did I say, woman in black? I think it's not a man in black. Like a singular men in black is not a man in black. You're a men in black if you're one or if you're six. That's what I decided while I was watching. Yeah. I wrote down, I have a question that I would like to get my two scholars on to just help me work this one out, which is at one point Vincent D'Onofrio calls them meat sacks. Lots of good insults against humans in this. think he calls them milk drinkers, know, like monkeys calls us meat sacks. And that made me think, do bugs have meat? Because I think of them as exoskeletons with goo. Yeah, that's what Kate, my whole life I've been like, I think a bug is a skeleton filled with goo. But do bugs have meat? I don't think the way that we do. Because they don't have muscle. legs are just, yeah, they don't have any ham, they don't have any quads. Do bugs have muscle? Because to me, meat means muscle. do bugs have muscle? glutes, no traps, no biceps, no tris. Weak AF. Yeah, they are. We got to hit the gym. They got to get their weight up. But we know the ants are so strong. They're like some of the strongest dudes in the world. OK, so then if we're thinking in this direction, let's also then think about lobster, crab, other things with exoskeletons. And we do say crab meat and we do say lobster meat. Yep. So because I imagine when you break a lobster open, there's meat inside of there. But there's certain things that I imagine if you break them open, just go. It's only good. imagine that there's some meat in the lobster? You didn't confirm that I've never actually cracked open a lobster claw and eaten the meat. I've eaten lobster that someone told me this is lobster and I just had to take their word for it. know? It's in there. Let me tell you, Nate, I'm a lobster eater here. Yeah, she's a late girl. And even though Brent says that he's from a place of lobster, he does not eat the lobster. I have cracked open a lobster and it does have meat. It's filled with meat. Is there goo in along with meat or is it pure meat? Well, by the time it gets to a lady like myself, the goo has been removed and we've deepened into the meat area. have a lot of goo inside. It's like, they don't make the, they don't make the customer deal with the goo. That's a kitchen problem. mustard. It's yellow when it's called the mustard. Some people eat it. Some people don't. It looks like she does eat it. do not eat the mustard. There's a part called the grandmother or something like that. You're not supposed to eat. I don't know. It's a big roll of dice eating a lobster. A lot of squeeze for the juice in my opinion. I love it. And I love crab and I love seafood in general. So please email North American Friends Movie Club at Gmail dot com if you'd like to send Kate any seafood. Sure. Do you really want to get a seafood box into your house? Yeah. Yeah. OK. I would take some. They've they've they've figured out how to do it. They're freeze dry and they got styrofoam. They figured it out. Ice packs. Yeah. Would you guys? like to do the Men in Black attack? Yes. Ooh. Seven questions from space. It'll be out of this world. ⁓ During the opening scene, Thomas Lee Jones arrests an alien named Mikey. He tells him to put up his arms and flippers. How many flippers does Mikey have? Two, four, six or eight. And we will start with Brent. Mikey seems like a four flipper kind of guy. I was thinking four as well. Well, I'm thinking that you're both correct. You both get a point. That was good. Good effect to head on a stick. Nice. That was good. Yeah. During Will Smith's opening chase scene, he corners a secret alien on the roof of a building. The alien has one ear pierced. How many earrings does he have? Two, four, six or eight. I'm going to say I think he had three in a lobe and one in the top or Well, he had four in the lobe Four lobe, but you're still correct. That's how we should have known he was an alien Yeah, four in one lobe, but none on the other ear. That's a lot. My ears are so small. I couldn't get two in a lobe. Gone forever! Got mini lobes? Little tiny little. He's got small lobes. small lobes. Me too. I got little. Yeah barely get nothing I can't get a grip on mine. Well, thing. That looks pretty that looks okay. No, I'm gonna start in there. Maybe that's what it Tony Shalhoub sold the gun to an unlicensed cephalopod. What kind of gun was it? A reverberating carbonizer, a harmonic deatomizer, a pulsating energizer or an oscillating vaporizer? Nate, Nate, Nate. This... did you mix up some of these? I made up three of the four here. This is the king of skeletons all over again. I will be... Brent guesses a harmonic deatomizer. I'm going A. Kate guesses a reverberating carbonizer, and Kate is correct. We have a tie game. I knew it was either A or B. Fuck. Tommy Lee Jones uses his work computer to creep on his old girlfriend. He types in her name. What is her name? Victoria, Jane, Mary or Elizabeth. Is it my turn? Mm hmm. Elizabeth. She looked like a Jane right from the hop. She might have looked like a Jane, but she was in Elizabeth. Kate's correct and she takes the lead. God damn it. No, don't make the hair do that. No, no. Yeah, Kate's victory hair swoops. Kate Belcher. When the Arkelean battle cruiser arrives, Thomas Lee Jones asks the satellite, asks to see the satellite footage. What kind of scan does he request? A neutron stabilized radial scan, a synchronized orbital magnetic scan? a proton induction thermo scan or a polarized plasma diffusion scan? Ugh, God. I think it's B. I'm gonna guess C. Brent guesses a synchronized orbital magnet scan. Kate guesses a proton induction thermo scan. And Kate is correct. No! was convinced that C was the most wrong. Give me a proton induction thermos game. ⁓ When the coffee aliens are fleeing men in black headquarters, how many cartons of cigs are they smuggling out? Three, four, five or six. I'm going to go with the highest number. Six cartons of cigs. They were doing the right thing by looting the place and but they didn't get greedy with it. They only took four. Well. Split the difference, I get a point, had five cartons of sticks. Five cartons of sticks. We would never have that in a movie now. ⁓ no. No, can have them taken. Spray. There's even a moment where Tommy Lee Jones is about to smoke a cig and then his lighter gets put out by some goo. Another great piece of goo work. Yeah, lots of goo work. In the final scene, this one's just for fun. In the final scene, the new lady Men in Black learns that Dennis Rodman is an alien. What planet is he from? Solara 6, Septurna 7, Sensoria 8, or Solaxiant 9? Solaxiant 9. Sensoria. Brent is correct, it was Solaxiant 9. Gone forever! Unfortunately, it was a little too late, and that means the winner of this week's quiz, two weeks in a is K, A, T, T, E, E, exclamation point, exclamation point. Undeleined. Underland. Big win for Kate. Thank you very much for this win. I really appreciate all my supporters. I want to thank both Nate and Brent for their participation in this win for me. I did it. I ran out of questions. I did it for all the humans. Who do you think you are? am. Well, I give you a gold medal for how fantastic you performed in this quiz. Would you guys like to hand out some medals to other people? Yes. I'm going to give out the medal of the galaxy. I actually think there's a lot of good performances in this movie. almost everybody nails it. I think everybody does. I can't think of anybody who isn't great in this movie. I will give some special mentions just to Rip Torn is great in this movie and Tony Shalhoub is great in this movie. But I'm gonna give my bronze medal to... I'm gonna give it to Will Smith. I'm going to give my bronze medal to Will Smith, actually. Charming, funny. You can tell why he became a movie star. ⁓ A lot of great run and work, a lot of great orange pant work and just just fun, just fun and good. He's at wearing clothes. He really is. Yeah, he's also going to get my bronze. He just he's the the the person I aspire to to look like in clothes. Everything looks good on him. He has a weird white and orange jumpsuit, kind of wind pant deal at the start. This looks great. I would look ridiculous, like half spilled glass of Kool-Aid. ⁓ Movie star. That's the 90s movie star right there. Bronze medal. I'm splitting my bronze between David Cross, who's just getting it because I love David Cross. I'm gonna see him on more things in general. And Linda Florentino. who I think did a great job. So she really did. Silver medals, silver medals. I'm giving my silver medal to Thomas Lee Jones. think Thomas Lee Jones is great. And I think he's such a serious, great actor that him doing this was really smart. And the fact that he doesn't wink even for a second about it, like he is playing this like it is as serious as no country for old men. And I think that that's movie needed him to do that. And so Silver medal for a king. Yeah, he gets my silver. He is the white Murtaugh of this movie. He is too old for this shit. He's only got one day before retirement. He wants out. He plays it straight. Like Nate said, doesn't give, you know, not too good for the role. Gives it everything. Good balance from Will Smith. Silver medal. I have it's a real toss up for me who gets the gold. But I guess we'll make this a turkey and I'll give it to Tommy. Tommy is the same age as my dad. And I don't know. I liked him. He's so good at everything. I don't know what that I just know. I just noticed he was. I'm glad we got that, you know, to think about the lobs like he's he's also in a no country for all man situation. I to think about that. like to it sums up our rating system so well. He's got. A great filmography. Men in Black, The Fugitive, No Country for Old Men. Like he plays Ty Cobb in the Ty Cobb movie. That's good. He was great in that. We liked him in that, too. He's having a lot of fun in that. Yeah. Jason Bourne, the client, like. It's great. Great. Some ad Astra Lincoln. So many good things. ⁓ yeah, he's good in Lincoln. I love Lincoln, actually. I think it's a great movie. I do, too. We should watch that. Spellbarrow go. Who is also a producer on this. ⁓ all right. Gold Medal time, I think we'll probably all choose the same guy because there's one, maybe not. There's one performance that stands out to me as like unbelievable, incredible, especially watching it now and appreciating more. That's for Mr. Vincent D'Onofrio for me, he my gold medal. Doing a lot of, doing a lot of. Especially in the first scene, because I rewatched it when I was making the quiz where he's like normal Vincent D'Onofrio walking out of the house being like his normal self. And then when he comes out of the pit, he's like transformed into a completely different entity. And I just thought he was amazing. Gold medal for me. Yeah, gold medal for me is Vincent D'Onofrio as well. Just Hall of Fame. This is this is his magnum opus, in my opinion. This was this deserves the best actor award. There's points where I didn't know if it was his voice, if sir, using some movie magic. He was making faces. He pulled his head back to scare his wife at one point. Neck was on backwards. Gold medal. Well, I'm giving it to Will Smith. I don't like this movie would not be as popular. We wouldn't be talking about it like this. It wouldn't have gotten three installments without William Smith. And I don't disagree. This is the. The beginning in the end for me, for my eraser. This is his eraser. Will you please stop interrupting me? Why? You're You're right. you. I apologize. Let me speak about a black man. Stop interrupting conversations about black people. Brent. Damn. Damn. God, I use my my methods against me. My argument is so think about his work like. Men in black. got real confused about where he was going in his career, I feel like. And he was young and he didn't have as much responsibility. And I think this is the best we can get from Will Smith. ⁓ I give you both 10 out of 10 for your excellent metal section. Would you like to give this film a rating? Yeah, sure as hell would. score it? I'm gonna guess the number at the end. Okay, I like this. This is fun. It's gonna get a 45. Okay, I'm gonna go 46 and a half is my guess. I'm gonna go 47. I guess we'll find out. Yeah, the script for this movie based on comic books, I think, but I never read the comic books. Oh, I didn't know that. That's interesting. What do you guys think about the script for the film Men in Black? ⁓ I'm going to go right at the gate. It's a 10. A secret society of guys that wear suits, that erase people's minds, that protect the Earth every day of all the aliens. That's a mind eraser stick. That's true. I'll give it a 10. Yeah, I think it earns it in a number of ways. One, the concept is just really fun and interesting. And it's actually kind of surprising that this is like They never made this movie before 1997. like, oh, it was right there the whole time. Yeah. I don't think the goo was there. It's also a tight little baby. Undeniable TLB with no fat on it at all. the tightest. Yeah. No meat on it like a fucking bug. Yeah. And it's great. Yeah. Funny and cool. Tight little bug. The art direction for this movie, the sets, the props, the costumes won an Oscar for the movie makeup. This. iconic costumes, Will Smith's orange parachute pants and red shirt, ⁓ all sorts, everything so silver. Tommy Lee Jones, silver phone, silver guns, everything is as silver as it can get. I love the way this movie looks and I will be giving it a 10. I noticed that anyone who is actually an alien was wearing green. Ooh, that's a good little pick. There is something about it I don't love. can't put my finger on why I'm giving it a nine. Let me hit you with a line. The difference between me and you is I make this look good and this movie could not look any more good than what it does. I mean, the way up the hop using illegal aliens as illegal aliens. That's classic. Yeah. Little gun right there. Boom. Love. Paul and the Fat Guy Tiny, love Little Gum Big Boom, excellent goo work. Tony Shalhoub's head gets blown shmoov off his shoulders, comes back new head. The bugs look good. Vincent D'Onofrio look great. The ties, the glasses, the little aliens spilling the coffee. And I could go on for, I could give this 11, but I won't because it's against the rules, 10. The music for this movie, Danny Elfman. I forgot that Danny Elfman did the music for this movie and it was a delightful surprise when it started playing in a Danny Elfman style. I love it. I'm going to give it a 9.5. It's not like I couldn't hum anything. That's its only downfall. But other than that, it's perfect for me. I would give it a 10, except I find the Will Smith Men in Black song corny. ⁓ I... I think that's gonna I feel like Brent's gonna give it extra points for the Will Smith song. It's a good song. It's fine. It's corny. And because it's corny, I'm giving it a nine. I feel like younger generations don't know that at the end of Will Smith's movies, he used to sing you a song about what happened in the movie for many years. That was part of going to the movies as Will Smith would sing you a song at the end of the movie about what happened in the movie. If we did this podcast 20 years ago or whatever, 1997 this came out, I wouldn't even watch the movie. I would just listen to Men in Black songs. Here's the deal with it though. When you're sitting on a banger like Men in Black, that song, and you wait until the end of the movie to when people are getting up to leave, if it was up to me, you play that during every scene. Every time they leave in a car, every time they're fighting, you to play that song every time. Eight. This movie is a... It's got a long laundry list. Yeah, it's got a lot of different things. It's a science fiction action comedy film. It's got to be a science fiction with some comedy and action. It does. It has all of those things. The science fiction is fun as hell. The action is good because they don't make you do it for too long. It doesn't last too long. And a lot of good like jazzy Jeff shots where he's getting thrown out of the house, like when Will Smith gets launched, he's like, it just is like that shot from under of him flying over. ⁓ And then it's funny, but it's not hilarious. 9.5. There are so many other better or this is a good like this is fine. This is good. Right. I think other films have done it better. The action comedy. This is as good as it gets for Will Smith. I don't think Will Smith is ever going to be like an Eddie Murphy in a comedy action. Like I will. Smith is funny, but he's not hilarious. You know, he's not like he doesn't have an edge. He's not as funny as Eddie Murphy. That's fucking sure. I'm going to give it an eight. ⁓ Simple ten. It's a boasted a lot of things of what it is and it delivered everyone. ⁓ aliens are a very serious topic. And if you can make me laugh during an alien movie, then you did your job. You cut the tension of earth invasion with some humor. And I like it. Will Smith's not very funny, he's, he's decent enough in this. Tommy Lee Jones is funny. Tony Shalhoub's head is hilarious. Tony Shalhoub's head. The theme for this month is secrets. I want to know about secret worlds and I gotta tell you, I can't imagine a bigger secret if we were to find out like maybe like a religious one. Like, like that. Like God is real and he is watching. But other than that, I can't imagine there being a bigger secret in the universe. I'm giving it a 10. I feel completely fulfilled in my desire to learn secrets. Yeah, you're right. I agree. This is a 10. I would love to give it a 10, but unfortunately, Catherine, your government has released documents saying that aliens are real. So it's not a secret anymore. It's a nine. This is just recycled material. This is like watching, you know, an episode of ER that came out years ago. We know what's going to happen. Before I click a button now, get to the score is about to populate. I feel kind of excited now that Kate set up this game. I'm like, what's going to happen when I push the next button? Let's find out the score for this movie is forty seven point three. Brent wins the competition. Yeah, I knew Raid of the Gates, a forty seven movie. Wow. They just had to play Men in Black more. If only the Red Nose Reindeer got a forty seven point two. That's right. That's right. Best fucking movie. I'm casting the That's right. Wow. Well, that was great. I was very happy to have watched that this week. It was a perfect one for me. Who wants to go next? An open book, Kate, you can go. can go. Why don't you go, Brinty? You go. OK. It's this was a long time coming. It's just one of those movies that we have to watch, especially with the secret, contains the secret of all secrets. We're Shutter Island. Oh, haven't watched this movie except maybe one time when it first came out. Yeah, we're going to get down to the nitty gritty. Mark, we're not big Leo guys, but we're going to watch the Leo movie. We're not anti Leo. Did you guys know that I read this book before they turned it into a movie? OK, didn't know it was a book and I'm going to have to read the book. Thanks. I'm reading the Bible. Did know that? Big week. Show up on the NJC this week. Coming back. Next month, we're going to just watch Bible movies. Yep. Wouldn't that be fun? Would you be mad if I had to pick that? I actually wouldn't be mad. I went through a phase where I watched a lot of, they call them sword and sandal movies because everyone's wearing sandals and got a sword. And like, so like Barabbas and King of Kings and I watched a lot of those. got in a little phase. Don't rule anything out, Catherine. You never know. We might do this show forever. would ask me watching Noah? That's good point. That's good point. We are at, this will be our 147th movie. Yep. We really did it, guys. ⁓ 147 hours of entertainment for the people listening to the show. Aren't they so lucky? For We should do some time. We should play one of those online murder mystery games, the three of us, and see if we can crack the case. How do you do that? It's just a thing you order and it plays on your screen and you guys got to talk. We can talk and try to figure it out. See if we can solve the case. think, well, we have Nate. I won't have to do much. We'll just like watch Nate do it. That's the greatest compliment I've ever seen. wow. Yeah. I was like, why? Why? Then I got it. Yeah, because he's a poor man's Sherlock Holmes. Yeah, diluted homes. Like his lemonade. Well. Then we're gonna watch next week Shutter Island. I think is that a Scorsese? Oh, it would be. I think it might be. Let's look. He's pretty good at making movies, I was putting your faith in good hands. Yes, it is. It's a Scorsese. We're gonna see some stuff next week, and that means all that's left to do is say good night, Kate. Good night, Kate. Good night, Kate. Oh, aliens. secrets of the most shocking ending in to have merch, I want it to be like a thing. I love flying kites.
