- 0:00I'd love to know, like, your relationship with money and how it's changed.
- 0:07Oh, I wonder what we got.
- 0:09I always had the mentality that I'm going to earn money and I'm going to spend it.
- 0:13Oh, you know, I went insane to pay.
- 0:16Woo!
- 0:17It was this beautiful big hammock.
- 0:19I'm pretty sure I spent the whole paycheck on it.
- 0:21And my dad, he wrote me, said, what the fuck is Celine?
- 0:24As much as you love someone,
- 0:26the things can go wrong.
- 0:28Very much got the mindset of,
- 0:30I will never, ever rely on a man.
- 0:32And don't do stupid shit on Shiseys, like I have.
- 0:35And you'll be fine.
- 0:36Well, one day, I got a call.
- 0:39Hi, Polly.
- 0:40And he's like, it's going to be bigger than Tesla.
- 0:42It's huge.
- 0:43Since that day, it is now with, I'm pretty sure it's...
- 0:49Do you know what is very exciting?
- 0:51This podcast is empowered and sponsored by the wonderful team at Fresh Start,
- 0:57which is by my food bag.

- 1:06So Fresh Start is something that I feel quite passionate about.
- 1:10There's someone who in all honesty really struggles to juggle work and life
- 1:16and trying to exercise and eat healthy.
- 1:19Fresh Start is such an amazing alternative that is cost effective.
- 1:23It's beautiful, whole foods.
- 1:25So the one that I've been doing since I've been in New Zealand is five nights,
- 1:28which is the highest option.
- 1:30That's for four people, which is only $239.99,
- 1:33which is $12. New Zealand, a plate.
- 1:37I mean, honestly, try to go to New World or Barrow
- 1:40and spend that little on quality food.
- 1:43Fresh Start have given the Curve community up to $168 off.

- 1:58I mean, sorry, you can't say we don't look after you.
- 2:01So if you want to take advantage of that,
- 2:03it's Curve Weekly is the code and we'll put a little link in the podcast show notes.
- 2:07Oh my goodness.
- 2:09I have been looking forward to this podcast for so long.
- 2:12And I'm really nervous.
- 2:14Why? Why are you nervous?
- 2:15It's like your best friend.
- 2:17I know. I'm sorry.
- 2:19You could interview someone.
- 2:21Bring your child to work day.
- 2:23And they actually see what you do for a job.
- 2:25And it's, yeah, this is what we do.
- 2:27Help us set up.
- 2:29Okay, I know, I know.
- 2:31We try, I'll be honest.
- 2:33No, we have polymarkets.
- 2:35Okay, I miss polys kitchen.
- 2:37You see I'm celebrity chef.
- 2:39Yeah, like God.
- 2:41Honestly, I feel honored.
- 2:43I mean, this is also 2.0.
- 2:45We have tried this once before.
- 2:47We had a few technicals and then we can pull the podcast out.
- 2:49And we had a trial run.
- 2:51How long ago was that?
- 2:53Like two years ago.
- 2:55I actually agree.
- 2:57I feel like you, because at the time,
- 2:59you weren't full time with Miss polys kitchen.
- 3:01And there was kind of a bit of an awkward what you couldn't, couldn't say.
- 3:05And you definitely weren't ready to give up real estate at that point.
- 3:07No, you're right.
- 3:09I feel like I'm trying to do this thing
- 3:11and start this business.
- 3:13But I'm also really holding on to my ex boyfriend
- 3:15that I might want to run back to.
- 3:17Do you know what I mean?
- 3:19You know, when you broke up with someone, you're like,
- 3:21they're in my back.
- 3:23I don't want to let go.
- 3:25Like, a pretty good change.
- 3:27I want to keep you still being here.
- 3:29Oh, he looks good now.
- 3:31Yeah, so there's a lot that's happened over the last few years.
- 3:33You were full time in a completely different job.
- 3:35Yeah.
- 3:37It wasn't no, you know, Miss poly.
- 3:39Pre, Miss poly.
- 3:41What was your life like at the time?
- 3:43What were you doing for work?
- 3:45So pre lockdown,
- 3:47I was a full time commercial real estate agent at Bayley's.
- 3:51So that basically meant that I was leasing office space.
- 3:55And I was there.
- 3:59All I could think of this would be my ninth year,
- 4:01even though I've sort of on the longest sabbatical,
- 4:03non-domain kind.
- 4:05Are you still on a sabbatical?
- 4:06Oh, you haven't cut the ties with the ex-boyfriend.
- 4:10No, but just I've given myself that it's the end of the financial year.
- 4:12And then they've said to me like, hey, baby.
- 4:14Oh, what's going on?
- 4:16Are you coming back to bed or what?
- 4:18It's quite good. I just, you know, sometimes I get tenants.
- 4:20I refer the deal and I clip the ticket, you know.
- 4:22Why are you still holding on?
- 4:24I think so.
- 4:26So real estate was for me.
- 4:28It was I came back from doing the bolts.
- 4:30And I started in commercial.
- 4:32The only reason I did commercial is because you didn't have to work weekends.
- 4:34I'd done real estate before.
- 4:36And I don't know what weekend's for.
- 4:38It's a party gal.
- 4:40To my priorities.
- 4:42It was like me with tenants.
- 4:44I used to play interclub tenants.
- 4:46And then as I got older, every game was on a Sunday morning.
- 4:48And I was like, nah, absolutely not.
- 4:50So I could have been like Serena Williams.
- 4:52He's cut.
- 4:54And it was on the way.
- 4:56But so real estate.
- 4:58So I'd done it straight out of school.
- 5:00It's not on a PA sort of side sales.
- 5:02Like looking at the sales agent side.
- 5:04And then came home.
- 5:06I didn't know anything about commercial real estate.
- 5:08I didn't know what a yield was.
- 5:10I didn't know what.
- 5:12I didn't know anything.
- 5:14But the fact that you didn't work weekends sounded fad.
- 5:16So I did that for years.
- 5:18And then in lockdown.
- 5:20Obviously no one's looking for an office.
- 5:22So it sort of quite quickly changed.
- 5:24But I guess for me it was once I learned how to do it.
- 5:28It took me two years of earning basically no money.
- 5:32I went straight commission from the start.
- 5:34So I didn't want to have a base sort of a small base salary that could get you through.
- 5:38I thought just put a Bunsen burner under my house.
- 5:40And I'll work really hard.
- 5:42Did anyone give you that advice?
- 5:44I remember Mike Bailey.
- 5:48He's an ex-religient.
- 5:50He sort of said like you could...
- 5:52You know, the sooner you just go commission only, the more you sort of like...
- 5:56It changes.
- 5:58I need to put food on the table for all my kids.
- 6:02And you've literally done that.
- 6:04You're now putting the volume up for the weekend.
- 6:06So it will make you work really hard.
- 6:08So I think it was the best thing.
- 6:10At the time I was staying in my family home.
- 6:14So I wasn't paying rent.
- 6:16So I was sort of 26.
- 6:18So it did make a big difference that I could live off.
- 6:20Sort of next to nothing for a couple of years.
- 6:22But when I finally got it.
- 6:24It's a really addictive job.
- 6:26Because you don't have a ceiling above your head.
- 6:28I could never imagine going to a job now where they said this is your salary.
- 6:32And this is what you earn for either.
- 6:34Maybe you'll get a bonus, maybe you won't.
- 6:36I would never go back to a salary job.
- 6:38It's not as motivating.
- 6:40If you work hard and you get rewarded for it.
- 6:44For people who are a dog with a bone like you and like me.
- 6:48To be honest, all of us.
- 6:50If someone said the sky's the limit with how much you can earn.
- 6:52I'd be like.
- 6:54Fob off the social life.
- 6:56I would get to the point where I was so addicted to it that I would just be.
- 6:58Which itself is unhealthy.
- 7:00Yeah, I know.
- 7:02But it's also really.
- 7:04I think I would find it kind of demotivating to be like.
- 7:06This is the amount that I can earn next year.
- 7:08This is the amount.
- 7:10So then how hard you work has nothing to do with what you're renewing.
- 7:12Not.
- 7:14And I feel like that.
- 7:16And to go back to your site.
- 7:18That was a really long-winded web answering the question.
- 7:20I was doing it and I was doing well.
- 7:22Then I started Miss Polly's Kitchen.
- 7:24And after about a year, when that started making money, I then had two incomes.
- 7:30One was really good.
- 7:32And one was getting good.
- 7:34And so to give up.
- 7:36It's taken me a long time to just let real estate go.
- 7:38Because it was a safety blanket.
- 7:40It's a massive part of my identity.
- 7:42And I was good at it.
- 7:44To then transition to a job where I'm still creating.
- 7:46I don't even know what Miss Polly's Kitchen as a job is.
- 7:49When people ask me, I'm like.
- 7:51But it works.
- 7:53But going from something where you measure your success on how much you're earning.
- 7:57You turn up every day what you have to do.
- 7:59It's very different to now working in a job where.
- 8:03I'm still creating what Miss Polly's Kitchen actually is.
- 8:07What does that impact and look like?
- 8:09Shove it.
- 8:11I actually totally understand.
- 8:13Hearing you say it like that.
- 8:15I fully get it.
- 8:17It's something that took you a long time to build.
- 8:19And also that's very financially lucrative.
- 8:21And just such different skillsets as well.
- 8:23Yeah.
- 8:25At the end of the day it kind of sails probably crosses both.
- 8:27But like, and having like that real.
- 8:31Relationship building network quality which you have.
- 8:33Yeah.
- 8:35But like what would be the thing then that.
- 8:37Would make you be like right.
- 8:39Okay, Miss Polly's Kitchen is getting my full undivided attention.
- 8:41Like what is that trigger for you?
- 8:43Is it a certain level of income in Miss Polly's Kitchen?
- 8:45Is it a certain milestone?
- 8:47Is it will it ever happen?
- 8:49Yeah, well I think look.
- 8:51At the end of this financial year.
- 8:53I will have to sort of severtize.
- 8:55So in a month.
- 8:57In a month, yeah.
- 8:59I have to have that conversation.
- 9:01They know it's coming.
- 9:03I know it's coming.
- 9:05But for me it was like they got to a point where I was working.
- 9:07So hard in real estate.
- 9:09I would come home.
- 9:11I was cooking.
- 9:13I was only coming in.
- 9:15But I was like, this is horrific.
- 9:17Like I am so burnt out.
- 9:19But you know, I was, I was like, I can't do this.
- 9:21And I'm a perfectionist.
- 9:23So when I was feeling like I couldn't do Miss Polly's Kitchen as well as I wanted to.
- 9:29Because I didn't have the time.
- 9:31I was getting really gutted and sad.
- 9:33And like, I'm not doing a good job.
- 9:35And so I had a conversation with Mike Bailey.
- 9:39And it was when I had my second book deal.
- 9:41And he said to me, if I told you I didn't want you to work on Miss Polly's Kitchen anymore,
- 9:47how would you feel?
- 9:49And I said, I'd be really, really sad.
- 9:51And he said, that's your answer.
- 9:53He said, then you need to leave Bailey's.
- 9:55But he was like, real estate is there.
- 9:57Always be there.
- 9:59Because sometimes you need someone to give you perspective.
- 10:03The same thing happened to me when I was in radio.
- 10:05I don't know why I feel emotional about that.
- 10:07But it sounds like he really cares about you.
- 10:09You have a boss like that is really special.
- 10:11Not someone who's like, well, you're here or you're gone.
- 10:13You know, like not someone that's just thinking
- 10:15about themselves and their own business.
- 10:17Because they could pay you more.
- 10:19They could give you more commission.
- 10:21You'd probably stick around for another six months.
- 10:23But if the end of the day, your passion is Miss Polly's Kitchen.
- 10:25There's only so much you can pay someone to incentivize them to stay.
- 10:27And I think as well in this whole world of social media,
- 10:29which I'm still very much navigating every day.
- 10:33I need to make, hey, you know, right now,
- 10:35while I'm, while it's, I think I'm current.
- 10:37But while I'm current and while Instagram is, is flying
- 10:41in all of those things, like make it work.
- 10:45Because it might not be like that in 10 years.
- 10:47So then real estate, which has always been great,
- 10:49will be there.
- 10:51You know, so I, I feel like I'm at the stage where
- 10:53also I've always loved the corporate world.
- 10:55I love.
- 10:57It's interesting to say, obviously.
- 10:59But I love working with men.
- 11:01I think I've, you know, commercial I was pretty much in our team.
- 11:03I was the only girl for a long time.
- 11:05We dealt with landlords.
- 11:06Apparently they're all men.
- 11:07And I found that the team environment I was in.
- 11:10I love the fact that it's matter of fact.
- 11:13It's you call a spade a spade.
- 11:14There's no bullshit.
- 11:15If you make a mistake, someone will tell you
- 11:18and they move on.
- 11:19No one's dwelling about it.
- 11:20There's no.
- 11:21And I remember there was a different part of the business
- 11:23that was more female dominated.
- 11:25And I remember going to lunch with one of the girls
- 11:27and she was talking about like something like the bitchiness
- 11:29or she felt like a boss.
- 11:31And I remember thinking like, God, I don't miss that.
- 11:34And I'm not saying that these are right or wrong.
- 11:37But I think for me, I really thrived.
- 11:39And I had a different perspective to all the men.
- 11:41So in a team, I was like the standout.
- 11:45I was the female.
- 11:46So it was great.
- 11:47And I really played that to my advantage.
- 11:49And now that I haven't been there for about a year and a half.
- 11:52I think the thought of going back into the corporate world
- 11:55for the first time really scares me because I'm like, oh.
- 11:58My life has changed.
- 12:00And I've changed, probably, and I've evolved.
- 12:02And so maybe they're thought of going out for all these long
- 12:05boozy lunches and things.
- 12:06And what it used to be like, that doesn't,
- 12:09it just doesn't feel like my emote at the moment.
- 12:12And so it wouldn't feel right going back
- 12:15and sort of doing that.
- 12:17So I guess Ms. Polis Kitchen does feel right for now.
- 12:21How does it feel like I guess you kind of had an element of it?
- 12:24But like the unpredictability of what income is going to come
- 12:28in the next week or the next month.
- 12:30And you kind of had that with commercial real estate
- 12:32to an extent.
- 12:33But like, that's the scary thing for a lot of people
- 12:36when you're self-employed.
- 12:37Or you're going from being employed to self-employed
- 12:39is, oh my goodness.
- 12:41I'm the master of my own destiny here.
- 12:43I also think further today is there's a real misconception around
- 12:47like influencer money and a being easer.
- 12:50Yeah.
- 12:51And sorry to use the word influencer, but it's, you know,
- 12:54essentially being a content creator,
- 12:56whatever you want to say.
- 12:57I mean, technically, I guess with...
- 12:58You do a few posts when you get paid for it.
- 13:00It's like, no, no, they don't see the behind the scenes.
- 13:02But you also don't have the same level of control
- 13:05that you did in real estate.
- 13:06No, you work hard, you get.
- 13:07So you can just shed some light on that.
- 13:09It's really hard like, there is times where I will, you know,
- 13:13and with food, you know, you create a recipe for a brand
- 13:17and in your head, you know, it's going to be like,
- 13:19I've cooked it before, you know, you test cook it
- 13:21and then you're filming it.
- 13:22And I can sometimes, what in my head I'll be like,
- 13:25I could pump out three different things today or two.
- 13:28I will still be there at three o'clock in the afternoon
- 13:30lying on the floor trying to photograph it.
- 13:32And for the life of me, it's not working.
- 13:34And I basically have to throw it in the bin and re-shoot it.
- 13:37And it's probably also part of the creativity side of it,
- 13:40which I struggle with because I am creative
- 13:43and I'm creative with food, but I'm not, you know,
- 13:46we're all the hats, but, you know, as this influences
- 13:49you're merging the videos, you're being the photographer,
- 13:51you're being the food stylist, where it's like,
- 13:53then you're being the talent.
- 13:55And so it's like, you're trying to do all of these things
- 13:57and sometimes you're not good at all of them.
- 13:58So it can be really challenging.
- 14:00And I think you have to, you know, there is brands that,
- 14:04of course you do work with, well, I work with that,
- 14:07that can't pay as much as another person,
- 14:09but if I love what they do and I love their brand and I love their food,
- 14:12you know, your prices are sort of, you know, they can vary.
- 14:15I've always, you know, for every ad you see,
- 14:18there is a lot that you say not who.
- 14:20And I think it's important for people to know that
- 14:23because it's funny.
- 14:25People sometimes will say, oh, she's doing a lot of ads
- 14:27and you think, well, that's my girl.
- 14:29You're also getting a lot of free recipes and content
- 14:32on Instagram.
- 14:33So I remember when a friend said that to me,
- 14:36who works, does a lot of, you know, and I thought,
- 14:39you're right.
- 14:40Like you are getting free recipes every single week.
- 14:44And if I'm doing an ad here on there,
- 14:46that's my business, that's me, that's,
- 14:48and I'm supporting a business that I believe in and a product,
- 14:51like with food and anything that I, you know,
- 14:54I'm using, it's because I will eat it and I like it.
- 14:58And it's also like the ads allow you to keep doing the free content.
- 15:01Yeah.
- 15:02You know, like it's the same with podcasting.
- 15:03Like our ads allow us to do this so that everyone can listen for free
- 15:06and learn and be educated.
- 15:09And it's use might not like the ad in the podcast
- 15:12and you might want to skip through it or like,
- 15:14but it's, it's, it's kind of comes with the territory.
- 15:17I don't know.
- 15:18But yeah.
- 15:19I think people don't understand that.
- 15:20And I think when they hear, you know,
- 15:21when people start to hear it, it's like,
- 15:22oh, yeah, you're right.
- 15:23Yeah.
- 15:24But I think Netflix is introducing ads.
- 15:26I'm like, hell no.
- 15:27I'm like, absolutely not.
- 15:28I pay for this here.
- 15:29Like it's about, yeah, that's a bit different.
- 15:31But how would you, just on what you said about, you know,
- 15:35taking some jobs and not taking others and stuff like,
- 15:37how do you navigate brands or partners?
- 15:42That pretty much devalue what you do.
- 15:45How do you navigate that?
- 15:47Like say you got a deal, one deal for,
- 15:49I don't know, let's make up numbers 5,000
- 15:50and the other for like 500.
- 15:52And like, how do you have those conversations
- 15:54or know what to charge yourself at out at,
- 15:56especially like the bigger you get?
- 15:58Yeah.
- 15:59Well, I still don't have a manager
- 16:00because when I first started,
- 16:02I thought if I can't negotiate a contract
- 16:04as a real estate agent,
- 16:05there is something wrong with me.
- 16:06But I am at the stage where it's like,
- 16:08it would be helpful to, you know,
- 16:10to have someone because I'm just always on my,
- 16:12to bounce ideas off at least.
- 16:14But I think you sort of get a gauge
- 16:16from talking to people in the market,
- 16:18what some people charge and what, you know,
- 16:21what is the sort of going right for certain things.
- 16:24I, you know, obviously,
- 16:26the bigger the international brand,
- 16:28they're probably always going to have more budget
- 16:30than the local smaller brand.
- 16:32So I think it really comes down to working out how you can still,
- 16:37if you really like someone that doesn't have a lot of budget,
- 16:40how do you incorporate that into still being able to talk
- 16:44about them because you really like their product
- 16:46without necessarily just devaluing or, you know,
- 16:49I think there are ways around it.
- 16:51But it is hard and I think there are times
- 16:54where I've had, you know,
- 16:56there's been a bit of money on the table
- 16:58and I just thought I wouldn't, like,
- 16:59I would love to be able to say yes to this product
- 17:01but I don't need it.
- 17:02And if I said a posting about that,
- 17:03people would be like, you're so loud.
- 17:06There's such a fine line.
- 17:08And that's the same for us.
- 17:10Like, we're pretty brutal with the brands that we do
- 17:12and don't work with.
- 17:13And I think it's just because I think the role of an influencer,
- 17:17what people think of an influencer has changed so much.
- 17:20What used to be just like beautiful photos has turned into,
- 17:24it's your whole personality,
- 17:26you give everything to your brand
- 17:28and you definitely do that through your videos
- 17:30and through everything that you do.
- 17:32It's not just as simple as like, here's my recipe.
- 17:34Polly as a person as well.
- 17:36And I think for us, podcasting,
- 17:38it's such an intimate form of media, right?
- 17:40It's not just our faces.
- 17:42It's actually who we are.
- 17:44And so if you were jumping from Nespresso to Nescafe,
- 17:48your audience is also like,
- 17:50that's really disingenuous.
- 17:52So you have to really navigate like,
- 17:54what is true to me as a person and as a brand?
- 17:57Because also that's what translates
- 17:59to being successful for a brand you work with
- 18:01because you also want people
- 18:03to then want to work with you again.
- 18:05And your audience or people that follow you
- 18:07aren't going to go and buy Tabasco
- 18:09if you're always talking about something
- 18:11that's a complete competitor.
- 18:13It's a fine balance.
- 18:15I'd love to know like your relationship with money
- 18:17and how it's changed.
- 18:19I wonder what we got.
- 18:23And like there's like the reason I'm bringing this up
- 18:25is that you've spoken about two jobs
- 18:27that you had like briefly you mentioned the yachts.
- 18:29Which for anyone that doesn't know
- 18:31is working on super yachts
- 18:33for like billionaires you know
- 18:35and you get tips that I'd be a change
- 18:37for them but it's sometimes 50 grand you know
- 18:39and then you've worked in real estate
- 18:41where you know there is no ceiling
- 18:43with how much you can earn.
- 18:45And obviously you've shifted
- 18:47to Miss Polly's kitchen which is now
- 18:49you're not just your passion product
- 18:51it's also of course your livelihood
- 18:53but that is a work in progress
- 18:55you're building a business.
- 18:57How has your relationship to money changed
- 18:59from two very high-paying jobs
- 19:01where you had a lot of disposable income
- 19:03to where you are now?
- 19:05Has it had to change at all or not?
- 19:07Like I mean I must admit
- 19:09I came round to the weekend and saw your wardrobe
- 19:11I don't think it's changed much in terms of
- 19:13I thought I'm like looking at the lifestyle
- 19:15creeper still creeping
- 19:19I'm gonna say I hate she's doing business
- 19:21advisor that started the year
- 19:23and he said the main thing
- 19:25you need to sort it is your financial health
- 19:27your money habits I think yes
- 19:29you're right.
- 19:31When I did the boat I always had the mentality
- 19:33that it was meant to be for six months
- 19:35so I was like I'm gonna earn money
- 19:37and I'm gonna spend it
- 19:39like a mad woman
- 19:41because this is so cool I'm loving half
- 19:43across the world and I don't have one thing
- 19:45to pay for so yes there's smart people
- 19:47that save their money and come home and buy a house
- 19:49and then there's Polly who was like
- 19:51I want to go to the best hotel
- 19:53and I'm gonna blow my money
- 19:55like how fast can we spend it
- 19:57so I'm gonna wish it non-union
- 19:59I just feel like you would have been this
- 20:01like erratic kind of like
- 20:03it was not
- 20:05what was the most outrageous thing you bought during that time
- 20:07where you just look back and you're like wow
- 20:09just like I remember the first time
- 20:11I actually got my first paycheck
- 20:13and I'd been living with my dad
- 20:15until he got all my mail
- 20:17and I was still getting paid into my New Zealand account
- 20:19and I went into Celine
- 20:21still as now but I walked in there
- 20:23I think it the bear
- 20:25I want to say it was like
- 20:27it was this beautiful big hand
- 20:29it was huge and I just got my first paycheck
- 20:31I'm pretty sure I spent the whole paycheck on it
- 20:33maybe it was like two and a half thousand euros
- 20:35I walked down, bought it
- 20:37I've never bought anything to sign in my life
- 20:39like this is insane
- 20:41I still have 24 and I walked out
- 20:45because you didn't have any
- 20:47bit like I didn't pay for food
- 20:49and then walked out
- 20:51a couple of weeks later my credit card
- 20:53statement got sent home
- 20:55my dad just got off my mail and scanned it to me
- 20:57and he never swore
- 20:59and he rang me and said
- 21:01hi darling how you going I said yes
- 21:03I'm good and who's really English
- 21:05he said oh what have you been doing
- 21:07and I said oh you know
- 21:09we're insane to pay
- 21:11yeah and I said that
- 21:13the owners are amazing and he said yes
- 21:15he said Polly you might be working for
- 21:17you know he said Salini
- 21:19Salini and I was like oh yeah
- 21:21about a bag
- 21:23and so I was like whoa
- 21:25I can't much trouble
- 21:27I've become to me now how have you been
- 21:29and like what the fuck is Salini
- 21:31I was like I was like I was always
- 21:33wearing New Zealand dollars' health
- 21:35but then but we just used to stay in like
- 21:37outrageous hotels and you just
- 21:39I just didn't think about money it was just
- 21:41like it was really fun and then coming up
- 21:43I mean I did save a bit of money
- 21:45I was on a tip bot
- 21:47I was on a charter boat so I was
- 21:49privately owned we had two decent tips
- 21:51because our boss was on for a long period of time
- 21:53towards the end yeah and I guess
- 21:55as a cruise ship you get paid pretty well
- 21:57it was the best spot like I wouldn't have stayed for three
- 21:59as if I didn't like it
- 22:01but I did come home with a little bit of savings
- 22:03unfortunately when I came home
- 22:05my dad then passed away so I took
- 22:07I think I took six months
- 22:09off doing anything
- 22:11like working and then I sort of
- 22:13ate through that money
- 22:15and then with real estate
- 22:17it was interesting the other day
- 22:19I actually was going through my financial
- 22:21statements of my hearing things
- 22:23and I looked at one of the years
- 22:25where I earned the most money
- 22:27I've ever earned in my life
- 22:29and it was from real estate
- 22:31Miss Poly's Kitchen combined
- 22:33and I thought to myself
- 22:35when I was earning that money
- 22:37I don't even really think I felt
- 22:39that different I didn't say
- 22:41that I wanted to do and I traveled
- 22:43and all of these things but I don't know
- 22:45if you enjoyed
- 22:47if I realized probably at the time
- 22:49because I was younger and a little bit more naive
- 22:51you know how stupid I was
- 22:53that I didn't do certain things
- 22:55and you know I've got a house
- 22:57and I'm really fortunate for that
- 22:59and I've done work to the house
- 23:01and so I do have to obviously give myself a bit of credit there
- 23:03but yeah and so
- 23:05my money house it's like I've
- 23:07grown up in an environment
- 23:09with my dad we were really
- 23:11growing up we were really fortunate
- 23:13but I also you know I come from a split family
- 23:17I've very much got the mindset
- 23:19of I will never ever ever rely
- 23:21on a man and I think
- 23:23sometimes it's to my own detriment
- 23:25because I'm not vulnerable and I don't let my guard down
- 23:27and I'm not good at sort of asking
- 23:29for help I think you know it's like
- 23:31I always want to be financially secure
- 23:33because you just never know
- 23:35what's around the corner so I
- 23:37guess I sort of have regrets
- 23:39with some financial things
- 23:41but I think it's lessons
- 23:43and I've got to drive that
- 23:45you know it's because I just
- 23:47I never want to be in a position
- 23:49where I'm 50
- 23:51and I get left you know with nothing
- 23:53and I don't have a savings plan
- 23:55or anything like that
- 23:57and so now I am looking
- 23:59at more than ever for the next 25 years
- 24:01like okay what do I do what
- 24:03what does my thing look like
- 24:05to me and interestingly enough
- 24:07I think with money
- 24:09I feel like I've had different
- 24:11money lessons my whole life
- 24:13like when I was 18
- 24:15I got my first job
- 24:17and it was full time and my dad
- 24:19had to sell our house
- 24:21using the use prior to that
- 24:23and I remember he asked if I'd get a mortgage
- 24:25with him and at 18
- 24:27also it was pretty cool
- 24:29and so I helped my dad get a mortgage
- 24:31on our family home
- 24:33I feel like now that taught me
- 24:35I don't know I guess
- 24:37the little things like that
- 24:39and I've got a lot of respect for my dad
- 24:41and I think having to
- 24:43probably for him to be vulnerable
- 24:45and have to ask for that at the time
- 24:47you know I guess I didn't realize
- 24:49the significance of it until
- 24:51I'm sort of later in life
- 24:53and now I'm here
- 24:55That's a huge commitment
- 24:57like a huge
- 24:59huge ask from your dad
- 25:01like for you probably
- 25:03not to understand the implications
- 25:05if that did go south
- 25:07I didn't actually pay
- 25:09like I paid for like
- 25:11he was retired
- 25:13he was old
- 25:15he needed someone with an income
- 25:17to get that next level of mortgage approval
- 25:19so I've even realized it at the time
- 25:21what that kind of meant
- 25:23and when he was dying
- 25:25interestingly enough I will never figure this conversation
- 25:27I said dad what do you want to do
- 25:29anything in the world
- 25:31and this was maybe a month
- 25:33out from him passing away
- 25:35and he said you know Paul
- 25:37I've been either in the world
- 25:39I've scared he loves skiing
- 25:41I've scared everywhere he said
- 25:43I've done everything with my two girls
- 25:45my sister and I
- 25:47and he said but for all the money
- 25:49and the world he said
- 25:51all I want is to be here
- 25:53like with you girls
- 25:55and I think it's really significant
- 25:57kind of it so it's like
- 25:59be smart but also
- 26:01do you really want to work
- 26:03till you're 60 and then
- 26:05go shit
- 26:07do you think that you
- 26:09balance that out well
- 26:11because like I know you and you're so
- 26:13incredibly driven which is amazing
- 26:15but it is you are very
- 26:17money orientated as I am
- 26:19and it's just
- 26:21there's times when I seriously have to be
- 26:23like is this all worth it
- 26:25totally I think it's bad
- 26:27I think that's what I mean
- 26:29it's to my own
- 26:31detriment that I'm like
- 26:33holy shit sister like
- 26:35pump the right like
- 26:37you never you know
- 26:39if Miss Polly's kitchen turns to shit
- 26:41I was a really good PA when I was younger
- 26:43I could go and get a job
- 26:45hopefully someone would let me be the PA
- 26:47but you know like
- 26:49I could get a job somewhere
- 26:51I could go you know I'm working
- 26:53you're going to be left
- 26:55in the shit like I don't so it's
- 26:57like I just also your skills
- 26:59you're assets so you can make money on turn
- 27:01and that no one can ever take this way
- 27:03yeah and I remember someone saying
- 27:05that someone in our community
- 27:07and they were like you know what
- 27:09they can take all my money
- 27:11all my assets but what they can't
- 27:13take is is my knowledge and my
- 27:15experience and that was what got
- 27:17them through they were like working
- 27:19they had two kids and they just went
- 27:21oh she got scammed that's right
- 27:23that was horrible and she was like
- 27:25you know what all I could think of was like
- 27:27I've got my biggest asset is my knowledge
- 27:29I need to get out there and start earning again
- 27:31and it was so true it's like
- 27:33yeah that's one thing people can't take away from you
- 27:35and I think that's definitely what you've got
- 27:37is skills and drive and knowledge
- 27:39but then how do we curb that
- 27:41because like we're all sitting here
- 27:43saying like we know
- 27:45that it's not all about money
- 27:47while it's really important to stand on your own two feet
- 27:49it's so important to be able to
- 27:51you know have money to do the things
- 27:53you have the experiences you want
- 27:55but life at the end of the day is about
- 27:57friends and family
- 27:59how I don't know
- 28:01I feel like it's so easy to dip into
- 28:03yeah what matters is people
- 28:05and family and time
- 28:07but I so quickly get pulled into
- 28:09I couldn't agree more but I think
- 28:11so I'm working with this person
- 28:13at the moment about my financial health
- 28:17Victoria Harris
- 28:19we'll be terrible friends
- 28:21you'll be like so
- 28:23I'll just come to you
- 28:25come visit me
- 28:27and like just say for three months
- 28:29you can just pay me in so many bags
- 28:31cut the handle often
- 28:33it's like writing down
- 28:35like I had to
- 28:37recently think to myself okay what
- 28:39what is it me like what is
- 28:41financial freedom look like
- 28:43and for me it's like holidaying
- 28:45going overseas for me
- 28:47is what
- 28:49gets me out of bed in the morning
- 28:51it's like it sounds so lame
- 28:53they're like I love to travel
- 28:55like I that's where I'm like
- 28:57in my element and it's because you experience things
- 28:59you learn and it's just like for me
- 29:01I'm like that is what life is
- 29:03so if I can have enough money every year
- 29:05that I can do a big trip
- 29:07and then I can do some small trips
- 29:09like that to me
- 29:11that's what I value
- 29:13each house sure maybe one day
- 29:15but you know like that would be epic
- 29:17but right now like
- 29:19that's not something I'd be saving for
- 29:21because for me it's like I just need to make sure
- 29:23that I'm earning enough that
- 29:25that is like my dream
- 29:27to just be able to travel a little bit
- 29:29and so I think it's like realizing what
- 29:31at what point is enough going to be enough
- 29:33because then you buy the beach house
- 29:35then you want the boat then you want the
- 29:37you know it's like there's always it's like
- 29:39what's next in the
- 29:41I feel like you know
- 29:43and pressure pressure and then I think
- 29:45looking around at people
- 29:47you know money doesn't
- 29:49it helps like my god does it help
- 29:51but it really doesn't like
- 29:53make it really good to make it happy
- 29:55and it's you can say that
- 29:57because obviously money problems
- 29:59are the worst problems in the world
- 30:01and I've got people around me and I know
- 30:03they're in really bad positions
- 30:05and it's really tough
- 30:07but I also think there's people around us
- 30:09and I look at their lives and I'm like
- 30:11don't even think that money can bring you
- 30:13can make you more happy
- 30:15like if you can't afford a place to live
- 30:17and then you have money and now you can
- 30:19but I don't think it doesn't bring you happiness
- 30:21it's not a destination and I think
- 30:23one thing you know to answer your question
- 30:25so if I think
- 30:27and that's one thing that I want to do is
- 30:29almost have a figure of
- 30:31okay when I achieve this figure
- 30:33then I'll be fine
- 30:35you know and it's like having
- 30:37or it's a retirement figure
- 30:39whether it's an overall net worth figure
- 30:41of like because you're right
- 30:43otherwise the goal post keeps moving
- 30:45and you're never going to be
- 30:47you have to put a line in the sand
- 30:49otherwise it's just always driving for more
- 30:51but I think what you said about
- 30:53the idea of travel
- 30:55it's like because you now know that
- 30:57that is what brings you happiness
- 30:59and that's the baseline
- 31:01you'll never stretch yourself
- 31:03to go and buy a beach house
- 31:05if it means you're forfeiting that and I think that that's really important right?
- 31:06it's like yes what's the big number
- 31:08in terms of the end destination
- 31:10but it's also what is your yearly amount
- 31:12that you need that allows you to do the things
- 31:14you enjoy and be happy
- 31:16and healthy and fulfilled lives
- 31:18like you know things like going out for dinner
- 31:20I've definitely cut back considerably
- 31:22I used to go out for dinner
- 31:24like it was changing your neck
- 31:26it's like seriously and I'd say
- 31:28oh it's my inspiration
- 31:30it is still my inspiration
- 31:32to try different things
- 31:34you know or go out for dinner
- 31:36but it's more of a treat
- 31:38it's like I remember my mum saying to me
- 31:40like Jesus Christ poly
- 31:42you're spending a lot of money
- 31:44and a lot of people
- 31:46wouldn't go out once every two weeks
- 31:48for a nice meal
- 31:50or once you know so you need to actually
- 31:52put more value on it because I don't
- 31:54earn what I used to
- 31:56so when I do go out for a meal
- 31:58I really appreciate it
- 32:00it's not just
- 32:02it's not just what I do
- 32:04but I do think
- 32:06going back to that whole money thing
- 32:08like having a figure
- 32:10I also have this mentality
- 32:12where you know
- 32:14yes at the moment I'm working towards
- 32:16what is a retirement look like
- 32:18but nothing's guaranteed either
- 32:20so it's like
- 32:22to make sure that you don't
- 32:24I guess live so
- 32:26like you know
- 32:28don't do the fun things
- 32:30also well I think that
- 32:32find balance which I guess
- 32:34we're all looking for
- 32:36I think if you have the
- 32:38bare minimum solid in terms of
- 32:40you know what your living expenses
- 32:42are you understand those numbers
- 32:44you know the amount that you can spend on fun things
- 32:46like your trips to Europe or whatever it is
- 32:48that you value
- 32:50and then you are investing a
- 32:52percentage whatever is manageable for you
- 32:54whether that's 10 percent 20
- 32:56whatever you want to be doing
- 32:58you eliminate that low level of financial
- 33:00anxiety of I'm not doing anything
- 33:02or I'm not being conscious about where
- 33:04and how my money's being spent
- 33:06that's enough you've got that
- 33:08it's like cool and yes you can always
- 33:10increase things and have more but for me
- 33:12that's been such a game changer
- 33:14in that I know I'm looking after my future
- 33:16I'm not sacrificing now
- 33:18but I'm also aware that I'm not in the same position as a lot of my friends
- 33:22I can't go and buy
- 33:24a second house or a boat or like and I
- 33:26never get there but it's
- 33:28it's being very aware
- 33:30of what your value set is what you
- 33:32want to spend your money on
- 33:34and and and also
- 33:36looking after your future with that
- 33:38you have 5 or 10 or 500 years to live
- 33:40it's just like I think when you
- 33:42bury your head in the sand and you've no idea
- 33:44you spend spend spend
- 33:46the anxiety you have is but almost
- 33:48doesn't outweigh the joy you get from spending
- 33:50the flip side of there as well
- 33:52if you are like so
- 33:54focused on safe safe safe
- 33:56and you're not actually living life either
- 33:58I think either way if you spend
- 34:00the pendulum too far either way
- 34:02is is really detrimental
- 34:04I just I guess it is just having that
- 34:06knowing what will keep the lights on
- 34:08and give you a little bit of fun and luxury
- 34:10is the dream goal because if you've
- 34:12got that and then you can be putting a
- 34:14bit of money into the savings and
- 34:16emergency fund then
- 34:18happy days and don't do stupid
- 34:20shit on shesies like I have
- 34:22so this is what I wanted to get into
- 34:24oh no
- 34:26so you've got your property you know
- 34:28you've got you've got Ms. Polly's
- 34:30Kitchen which is a growing
- 34:32business what else do you invest in
- 34:34oh poll no what
- 34:36I look I
- 34:38so when I was at Bailey's all the
- 34:40boys and I choose to stay meetings
- 34:42boys men I should call them men
- 34:44you used to talk about like you know
- 34:46we get to the meeting and then
- 34:48sort of be some investment chat about
- 34:50like this is shit like I really need to
- 34:52get a shesies account what made you
- 34:54take interests well you guys
- 34:56started so I was listening to you guys
- 34:58and so you know
- 35:00they were talking about it and it was sort of like
- 35:04well you like also just interest I was like oh you know
- 35:08the stock market like you know going back
- 35:10to my dad he used to
- 35:12put like trade in the stock market
- 35:14and it was and it went there were times
- 35:16it would terribly for him like lost a lot
- 35:18and everything you know so it's like I think
- 35:20it's always been there been interested in it but I'm like
- 35:22I'm not going to sit and read the
- 35:24financial times I'm not going to do this so I just
- 35:26thought I'll start doing a bit
- 35:28a direct feeding manion and I'll just listen to the boys
- 35:30and do what they do well one day
- 35:32I got a call and I still
- 35:34to this day I'm like how did you get my number
- 35:36who did you look was so weird
- 35:38I had this call from the sky from stock on
- 35:40hi Polly
- 35:42I've got this company I should know
- 35:44it was voice but anyway I was company
- 35:46IPO it's called Rivian Amazon's
- 35:48put like billions into it and I was like
- 35:50holy shit and I'm like what is it
- 35:52looking like I'm like okay cool
- 35:54anyway and then I'm like any second
- 35:56it's going to be bigger than Tesla it's
- 35:58it's huge and I was like oh my god
- 36:00like I have got the mother I mean
- 36:02I got a bit weighted out that I was like
- 36:04why are you calling me and I was like I think
- 36:06I've got a call coming through hang up call
- 36:08I'm like hi babe I've got this new
- 36:10stock anyway and she's like I haven't
- 36:12heard of it and I was like it's massive
- 36:14like it's huge it's about to IPO
- 36:16and like I'm talking like I know I'm talking
- 36:18it's like I'd be really really
- 36:20careful and then like two weeks
- 36:22later because it was IPO maybe a month
- 36:24something that rang me just like hey
- 36:26the thing just came across like my
- 36:28I see what is pull be really careful
- 36:30like don't do anything stupid
- 36:32and I'm like whatever
- 36:34I put $5,000 into Rivian
- 36:36at the time when it IPO
- 36:38it was $154 a share
- 36:40then it started to drop and
- 36:42I was like I always remember it
- 36:44work they're like when it drops
- 36:46like double down and I was like
- 36:48fuck yeah I'm going to double down
- 36:50so I double down
- 36:52but more since that day
- 36:54it is now with I'm pretty sure
- 36:56I want to say maybe $14 a stock
- 36:58so my she's is portfolio
- 37:00with Rivian is at
- 37:02negative 89% and I have about
- 37:04$400 sitting in that stock
- 37:06from what I put in
- 37:08what is that? I live in even better
- 37:10so it's yeah it's gone from
- 37:12yeah close to $140
- 37:14down to
- 37:1611 and that's
- 37:18in about four years
- 37:20yeah
- 37:22such a ship
- 37:24and then there's another one
- 37:26the guy stopped
- 37:28and why did you punk me?
- 37:30why did the boys not help?
- 37:32I think one of them invested
- 37:34in it too
- 37:36I mean the green line
- 37:38it's it's Amazon
- 37:40like that in itself
- 37:42would have got quite
- 37:44the people over the line
- 37:46great sales guy from stock
- 37:48and then there was another
- 37:50company called Betmakers
- 37:52I put money into that
- 37:54because the boys were doing it
- 37:56I put a little bit more
- 37:58a new year's day this is going
- 38:00back about four years
- 38:02it's still that that's
- 38:04another one that's just
- 38:06recently I have been investing
- 38:08drips and drabs like it's
- 38:10I've got a couple of
- 38:12girlfriends that we message
- 38:14you know at least every week to talk
- 38:16about you know our house is doing
- 38:18what's that doing
- 38:20and the most successful one for me
- 38:22to date is Rocket Lab
- 38:24I invested in that like four
- 38:26or five years ago that was
- 38:28all recently as well
- 38:30insane at one point it was
- 38:32up 236% on what I'd put in
- 38:34and I was like there's a glitch
- 38:36in the system like what's going on
- 38:38and then I looked at Rocket Lab
- 38:40and then I've put money I've been
- 38:42drip feeding money into the US
- 38:44500 and since 2020
- 38:462022 maybe must be then
- 38:48that's been really really
- 38:50just steady and strong
- 38:52so that's been a really good one
- 38:54but then recently like I talked to a friend
- 38:56and she was like there's this
- 38:58oh what's it called?
- 39:00Navi is?
- 39:02and so I bought it and that's already
- 39:04down 39% I'm like when I just do
- 39:06dumb shit with sometimes I'm like
- 39:08but I think this is like
- 39:10but not with that much money
- 39:12not with people
- 39:14200 not
- 39:16200 000
- 39:18I think this is a really
- 39:20good lesson and diversification
- 39:22and also thank you for sharing that
- 39:24seriously I think there's a lot of people
- 39:26that have had that experience and
- 39:28they're too embarrassed to talk about it
- 39:30and that's really shit
- 39:32you weren't put off either
- 39:34you were like I want to make my money back
- 39:36I want to invest in something else
- 39:38I've asked that many times
- 39:40I don't like looking at things in a
- 39:42res like for me every time I have my
- 39:44shoe up poly and it's
- 39:46down it gives me a bit of an egg
- 39:48but I said to Vic should I just sell
- 39:50out like do I just count like what is it
- 39:52come on losses
- 39:54and just let it go and Vic was like no
- 39:56like do not
- 39:58just leave it
- 40:00you know so I think it's
- 40:02and it's funny you know now it's not
- 40:04funny but I'm like
- 40:06but you've got rocket lab which is amazing
- 40:08but this is a great reason why you
- 40:10need to diversify because
- 40:12you could have put all your money in rocket lab
- 40:14and done fantastically well with the
- 40:16chances of that really really low
- 40:18you're going to have some plonkers
- 40:20you're going to have some ribbons
- 40:22and some bit makers
- 40:24and them not do so well
- 40:26it just makes the world of difference
- 40:28do we think the bit makers name
- 40:30would have been enough to put you on
- 40:32it's something to do you know the funny
- 40:34thing if you ask me if you went through my
- 40:36shoe portfolio right now and ask me
- 40:38what half of the companies
- 40:40know what they do I'm like I don't know
- 40:42I just someone to do it and I think that's
- 40:44also probably we're going to say this
- 40:46line no I know so but so now
- 40:48I'm just all about the US 500
- 40:50the ETFs those kind of safe
- 40:52things more so if I'm doing something
- 40:54drastic so what have we learned from that
- 40:56poll be smart listen to the curve
- 40:58don't be I'm I'm very
- 41:00impulsive I can be super impulsive
- 41:04and now that I'm you know not earning
- 41:06what I was I'm I'm much more aware of
- 41:10where I want to be and not doing done things
- 41:12but I also think yes taking risks
- 41:14but don't take them in a stupid way
- 41:16but also just research
- 41:18you can listen to a tip that someone gives you
- 41:20and you can be like cool thank you and go away
- 41:22you go and put it in the invest in
- 41:24club and you ask that yeah I do some research
- 41:26on this please yeah and I should have
- 41:28listened to Vic when I said hey I know
- 41:30you can never give me vice because that's annoying
- 41:32thing you think that being friends with
- 41:34Vic how I said we're like hey we've been
- 41:36just like I just can't really say I just can't
- 41:38me that I think now that would be different
- 41:40right because I think since probably
- 41:42since you first were dabbling in those
- 41:44like I think Vic's come a long way in
- 41:46terms of being able to also explain things
- 41:48differently at the time she probably felt
- 41:50now we've realized that I will say
- 41:52you're referring some money
- 41:54but also I think the like don't
- 41:56listen to anyone that calls you
- 41:58from a random number and gives you a
- 42:00stock trip because then I should have
- 42:02listened to you because you said don't do it
- 42:04yeah the Curve Investing Club
- 42:06is the world's first digital
- 42:08investing club for women to build their wealth
- 42:10it's a place where industry experts
- 42:12like myself and beginners
- 42:14can really really join forces to
- 42:16share knowledge swap ideas and make money
- 42:18through investing so if you're listening
- 42:20to this podcast you probably are
- 42:22aware that saving alone unfortunately
- 42:24can't make your millionaire
- 42:26but investing definitely could
- 42:28so we wholeheartedly believe in the
- 42:30power of community and that the best
- 42:32investment ideas come when we collaborate
- 42:34and learn with each other
- 42:36so bring your friends your mom
- 42:38even strangers on the street
- 42:40if you want there really is strength
- 42:42in numbers and we're so excited
- 42:44to create a community that's
- 42:46just for you
- 42:48talking about
- 42:50like beyond investing
- 42:52and just money in general you've also had
- 42:54a lot of learnings within
- 42:56relationships and
- 42:58have probably changed your perspective
- 43:00on how you approach money and love
- 43:02over the years with different people
- 43:04that you've you know been in relationship
- 43:06with if you could go back in time
- 43:08and talk to younger poly who is
- 43:10in love say it 24
- 43:12and not thinking about
- 43:14the idea that being in love
- 43:16or in a relationship is kind of like
- 43:18being a business with someone
- 43:20what would some of those things that you
- 43:22would have said to her
- 43:24to be aware of
- 43:26or to think about in advance
- 43:28I would say
- 43:30and my lawyer made a really good point
- 43:32that if you meet someone
- 43:34and you're in the honeymoon period
- 43:36and you're so in love like
- 43:38your heart is just bursting
- 43:40like you're like oh my
- 43:42I just now
- 43:44what I've learnt is
- 43:46if you own an asset
- 43:48or if you both have assets
- 43:50whatever it is if you you know
- 43:52you earn different things
- 43:54if you go into a relationship
- 43:56and you have something
- 43:58it should never be an issue
- 44:00from either party to just go in
- 44:02after if you're moving in together to say
- 44:04hey let's just get this sorted
- 44:06and what's mine is mine
- 44:08at the moment and what's yours is yours
- 44:10and you're planning how you want to do it
- 44:12and you protect the shit out of that
- 44:14and you hope like hell
- 44:16this my lawyer said me that you do these
- 44:18agreements you put it in the bottom drawer
- 44:20and you never have to look at it again
- 44:22because that means you've had a really successful relationship
- 44:24and he said
- 44:26what you write in those things as well
- 44:28is when you're in a sound mind
- 44:30and you love someone of what is equal
- 44:32and what is fair
- 44:34and this is obviously more so
- 44:36as you get older and even when you're 18
- 44:38you have the front
- 44:40I'll have the back
- 44:42I think there is a point
- 44:44and I obviously don't have kids
- 44:46so I know that things change
- 44:48but I just think
- 44:50as much as you love someone
- 44:52the things can go wrong
- 44:54and no one is going into a relationship
- 44:56with bad intentions
- 44:58but things
- 45:00I just think you have to really protect
- 45:02and if you worked your ass off
- 45:04and you've earned your money
- 45:06it's different if it's inheritance
- 45:08and those are protected in different ways
- 45:10but you just have to protect yourself
- 45:12and I think it goes for men
- 45:14and women
- 45:16and it is a shit conversation
- 45:18to have with someone like
- 45:20hey we're moving in by the way
- 45:22you've had one relationship
- 45:24where you learned a lot from
- 45:26and then now you're going into this
- 45:28going into a
- 45:30another relationship where
- 45:32you seem like you're a lot more mature
- 45:34how did you have those conversations
- 45:36like how did you make that
- 45:38not such a big deal
- 45:40and something that you both need to do
- 45:42well I think I was just really open
- 45:44about it from the get-go
- 45:46but I also think sometimes it's
- 45:48to my own detriment
- 45:50like we live in
- 45:52essentially what is my house
- 45:54and I'm so conscious that
- 45:56it's my boyfriend
- 45:58very much is like
- 46:00it's your house
- 46:02there's a point
- 46:04now where it's probably like hey maybe
- 46:06I should sell the house and get something together
- 46:08so it feels like you're more of a team
- 46:10that's a really good point of view
- 46:12and you can change it
- 46:14yeah you can change it I think like
- 46:16and I don't want it to feel like that
- 46:18like Ots Poly says like I'm always like
- 46:20no our house and I always say it
- 46:22but I think I've got a bit of a
- 46:24as I said I'm like
- 46:26I don't want to rely on anyone
- 46:28so that I think can also
- 46:30bring me because I'm like
- 46:32I'll do this and you know
- 46:34and we don't we've got a joint account
- 46:36for menial stuff like
- 46:38the bills and food shopping
- 46:40but it's like the thought
- 46:42of like pulling everything together
- 46:44it makes me feel a bit
- 46:46I'm like
- 46:48do you naturally align both of you
- 46:50in terms of your spending
- 46:52and saving or have there been any
- 46:54difficult conversations
- 46:56when it comes to that
- 46:58actually no two years
- 47:00it's actually not funny
- 47:02his shopping I went into his
- 47:04wardrobe the other day
- 47:06because we've got obviously
- 47:08the room you sleep in and then
- 47:10this one of the forums is where
- 47:12I call it the man cave
- 47:14and that's where his border
- 47:16and I was like dude
- 47:18like there is the most
- 47:20I'm like what is going on
- 47:22and I've never seen you
- 47:24have this clothes like throw them
- 47:26but I feel like at the moment
- 47:28like I'm really making
- 47:30all these moves to go
- 47:32and get like financial help
- 47:34do things differently and obviously
- 47:36that rubs off on you
- 47:38your partner because then I think
- 47:40now he's like yes shit
- 47:42we need to get our act together
- 47:44but I think that's a really
- 47:46good point in itself is
- 47:48like it takes
- 47:50you have to be at a stage
- 47:52where you're
- 47:54at your shirt because
- 47:56it's really confronting
- 47:58to think about I mean for me
- 48:00to think about the fact that I'm
- 48:0233 and up until my
- 48:0433rd year
- 48:06I was reckless
- 48:08ridiculous with my money
- 48:10sometimes I find it just like
- 48:12the shame that I
- 48:14spiral down of like how
- 48:16have I got to this point
- 48:18and only now I'm putting this stuff
- 48:20in place it's really like
- 48:22oh wow I've done this it's like no
- 48:24it's really brilliant that I've
- 48:26turned things around and I
- 48:28definitely think of it in a
- 48:30positive way but I guess my point
- 48:32in mentioning that is that
- 48:34when you get to a place where you're
- 48:36like right I need to look at this
- 48:38or I need to sort this out or
- 48:40I'm going to spend some time
- 48:42looking at my money habits like you
- 48:44are which is amazing
- 48:46there's an emotional switch
- 48:48that happens and I think
- 48:50you know have because you're
- 48:52not going to be perfect straight
- 48:54away and you won't probably
- 48:56never be but once you've
- 48:58illuminated the issues
- 49:00you're aware of them you've
- 49:02learned you can kind of move
- 49:04through and I think when you're
- 49:06around people like you're doing
- 49:08that so inadvertently he is
- 49:10also doing the same I think that
- 49:12it just takes people there at
- 49:14different stages someone might be
- 49:1621 when they do that some of
- 49:18it's like talking about you
- 49:20both I've met a lot of
- 49:22younger girls through working
- 49:24things like that who listen to
- 49:26your podcast and they're in the early
- 49:2820s and they're talking about
- 49:30what they invest in and I'm like
- 49:32oh that blows my mind imagine if
- 49:34I was to like you can't think like
- 49:36that but I'm like it's
- 49:38incredible that they're doing
- 49:40there but it's like I can't you
- 49:42cannot I can't look back on the
- 49:44last 10 years and go I
- 49:46also still young with so much
- 49:48time ahead of us to like do things
- 49:50differently I think he's
- 49:52right by the way
- 49:54I've just turned 19
- 49:56I feel like there's so many
- 49:58things I know and like you
- 50:00know it's I mean
- 50:02do you want to do the honor of the
- 50:04final question that yeah what
- 50:06can we expect like what's next
- 50:08for Miss Polly's kitchen like what
- 50:10is your grand plans for that
- 50:12like what would be your five
- 50:14financially or otherwise YouTube
- 50:16subscribe like not I it is
- 50:18it's I I went into his business
- 50:20the other day he said unless you
- 50:22want to bring out a product which I
- 50:24thought about doing he said right
- 50:26now what you need to do if you
- 50:28bang on YouTube is where you want to
- 50:30be that's what you've got to do to
- 50:32grow to get a bigger following to
- 50:34go like I want to go international I
- 50:36really want to grow in Australia to
- 50:38start and then I want to get bigger
- 50:40and bigger and bigger my dream is to
- 50:42you know that that's evolving I think
- 50:44having a YouTube thing where it's me
- 50:46like I love cooking and it's my
- 50:48passion and I love food but I'm not
- 50:50you know I'm not the best chef
- 50:52I'm not a formally trained chef
- 50:54or anything like that so I want to make it
- 50:56you know I guess it is more the personality
- 50:58thing I want to travel I want to be a
- 51:00trusted person that when I'm
- 51:02traveling around it's like what did
- 51:04Polly eat what did she do because
- 51:06that's you know I spend so much
- 51:08time researching where I'm going
- 51:10to go to get my restaurants
- 51:12like cheap eats this that
- 51:14everything out like to curate a
- 51:16trip so that for me in five years
- 51:18like if I could be that person
- 51:20that was super trusted and
- 51:22had these amazing like travel you
- 51:24know cooking things cooking with
- 51:26people in different countries that
- 51:28I've been on holiday with you and
- 51:30honestly the restaurants that
- 51:32poll chooses it's like you just
- 51:34step back relax and just follow the
- 51:36I think that I mean products yes
- 51:38I think for now it's like
- 51:40yeah just just work with what I've
- 51:42got in front of me any
- 51:44personal achievements you want to
- 51:46achieve in the next five years nine
- 51:48months yeah look we don't know is it
- 51:50I don't know what it is yet but yeah
- 51:52there it there is there is a baby
- 51:54there is a dinosaur in my belly
- 51:56yeah so look I'm going to become a mom
- 51:58so yeah my so happy here
- 52:00so excited
- 52:04yeah so I think leaning into
- 52:06help and you know not being that
- 52:08how a woman if I could do it all I'm
- 52:10going to have to be really vulnerable
- 52:12and let my guard down so I think that's
- 52:14exciting and also you know back to the point of
- 52:16like coming to a place where you you know
- 52:18you have that shift or that emotional moment
- 52:20like I need to sort my finances out
- 52:22obviously for you it was the idea of
- 52:24well yeah being a mom right it's like okay
- 52:26I don't want to pass the same stuff on
- 52:28and also I have someone else
- 52:30I have to pay for now so yeah
- 52:32I think that the fine monos that's why
- 52:34it was out of the year and that was my biggest shift
- 52:36I'm like okay sweet pea just you anymore
- 52:38and she's getting in here at the salini bed
- 52:40she
- 52:42oh I don't know I mean
- 52:44anyone would be getting on a salini bed
- 52:46I think

- 53:16I just have to get over the fact that you hold the camera up
- 53:18like this and you walk it because I just
- 53:20you don't have to do that most people just put their
- 53:22computer in front of them and speak straight to their computer
- 53:24I mean we did a tech talk in a restaurant last night
- 53:26so you know
- 53:28and we had to do quite a few takes with the flash on
