- 0:00Speaker 1: The NFL Draft is coming and uh, you know, Sirianni
- 0:03Speaker 1: and Roseman have had some good success in the draft.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Will take a look at how much success they've gotten
- 0:09Speaker 1: though later on in the draft where they do have
- 0:12Speaker 1: a lot of picks this year, but can you expect
- 0:16Speaker 1: them to find players that can help them in those
- 0:19Speaker 1: middle rounds. Let's take a look at the Sirianni Roseman
- 0:23Speaker 1: era of Day three picks. Who has helped and who
- 0:26Speaker 1: has not? The Eagles do hold multiple picks in multiple
- 0:30Speaker 1: middle rounds. Adam Kaplan is here to break it all
- 0:33Speaker 1: down for us on the Sports Batch. What's going on
- 0:35Speaker 1: out of another football at four?
- 0:37Speaker 2: This one's interesting.
- 0:38Speaker 1: They do have a lot of picks in the third,
- 0:40Speaker 1: and the fourth and the fifth, but can they get help?
- 0:43Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, Mike, this the andrews Chepko and I
- 0:46Speaker 3: had a really fun show. So we took a look
- 0:49Speaker 3: at the five years of Roseman and Sirianni. How we
- 0:53Speaker 3: makes picks the players and Nick is responsible to develop them.
- 0:57Speaker 3: So we devoted that that part of part of the
- 1:00Speaker 3: show this morning was that and then Andrew gave his
- 1:03Speaker 3: Day three sleepers. Now, Mike, if you look at since
- 1:06Speaker 3: how he's become general manager, though he didn't have personnel control.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Nanny Reid was here. He was a general manager starting
- 1:13Speaker 3: in twenty ten. But if you really look at it,
- 1:15Speaker 3: they've had some phenomenal picks late. Just to give you
- 1:19Speaker 3: a few, The best sixth round pick and Eagles history,
- 1:21Speaker 3: Jason Kelsey, who, by the way, would have been higher.
- 1:25Speaker 3: He would have been selected higher, but he had a
- 1:26Speaker 3: penacitis around the combine. He lost a lot of weight.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Jason stalked about it before, but obviously a great, great
- 1:33Speaker 3: sixth round pick. You're not gonna get much better than that.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Jordan Malatta. The best seventh round pick and Eagles history.
- 1:38Speaker 3: One of the most remarkable stories in NFL history. A
- 1:40Speaker 3: seventh rounder Josh Swtt and twenty eighteen a fourth rounder.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Third day picks are round four through seven, by the way,
- 1:47Speaker 3: so people know that now round five through seven, Mike,
- 1:51Speaker 3: they're not called starter rounds. Those are backup rounds. The
- 1:54Speaker 3: fourth round is low and starter high end backup, and
- 1:58Speaker 3: that is what Andrew and I talked about, and we
- 2:00Speaker 3: talked about those rounds. Since Syriani and Rosamen have worked
- 2:04Speaker 3: together the previous five years, twenty one for twenty five
- 2:08Speaker 3: just understand, Mike, it's the hit rate on third day
- 2:12Speaker 3: picks is low. So just understand that there are a
- 2:16Speaker 3: lot of guys who have not worked out. The one
- 2:19Speaker 3: concern that we'll get into this as you and I speak,
- 2:21Speaker 3: you're going forward. The one concern is the last year drafts,
- 2:24Speaker 3: we're not seeing a lot of development yet.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Well, let's take a look at some of the guys
- 2:28Speaker 1: they have actually got some stuff from. And obviously, you know,
- 2:32Speaker 1: these aren't guys who generally are all pros or Pro bowlers,
- 2:36Speaker 1: but there have been some diamonds in the rough. But
- 2:38Speaker 1: how has this regime done in these rounds. Let's go
- 2:42Speaker 1: back to their first draft together.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Yeah, so in twenty twenty one, you might remember Zach McPherson.
- 2:50Speaker 3: McPherson was cross trained, but they really wanted him to
- 2:52Speaker 3: play nickel and he didn't play well before he tore
- 2:56Speaker 3: his achilles and he's never been heard from. He tried
- 2:58Speaker 3: to come back, was on some practice squads, but they
- 3:01Speaker 3: missed that one. It's really simple. If your cut before
- 3:05Speaker 3: your rookie contract is over, that's a miss. That was
- 3:08Speaker 3: a miss. The next pick was fantastic. Kenny Gagwell was
- 3:12Speaker 3: everything that the Eagles would have hoped for. Look, they didn't
- 3:14Speaker 3: use him enough in the pass game, though he was
- 3:16Speaker 3: more or less their third down back for a number
- 3:18Speaker 3: of years. He was the fifth rounder in twenty twenty one.
- 3:21Speaker 3: That was absolutely hit they got. In fact, good for Kenny.
- 3:23Speaker 3: He got a really nice free agent contract with the Buccaneers.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Eagles try to resign him. They made a passing effort.
- 3:29Speaker 3: It was between the Eagles and the Steelers. He thought
- 3:31Speaker 3: he'd have a bigger role with the Steelers, Mike. He
- 3:34Speaker 3: led them in total receptions last season. Yes, dat Kennon Gamewell,
- 3:37Speaker 3: believe it or not. So that was a hit. In
- 3:39Speaker 3: twenty twenty one, they missed the Tron Jackson was a
- 3:42Speaker 3: six round pick. Jacoby Stevens played two games. He was
- 3:45Speaker 3: a sixth round safety out of LSU. Never made it.
- 3:48Speaker 3: He's actually back at LSU with her player programs in
- 3:52Speaker 3: their football program. Six round pick Marlin Twoey polout two
- 3:55Speaker 3: miss hes been on off to the Chiefs practice squad.
- 3:58Speaker 3: His brother Trully, the second round pick a couple of
- 4:01Speaker 3: years ago for the Chargers, is really good. And I'm
- 4:03Speaker 3: calling Patrick Johnson a hit.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Mike.
- 4:05Speaker 3: I know he's been cut a number of times. But
- 4:07Speaker 3: he's also helped their special teams. If you get special
- 4:10Speaker 3: teams value for two or three years, that's a hit
- 4:13Speaker 3: from a seventh round pick.
- 4:14Speaker 1: All right, yeah, that's twenty twenty one draft Kenny Gainwell,
- 4:19Speaker 1: as you mentioned, he's still playing in the league. Patrick
- 4:21Speaker 1: Johnson bouncing around with Philadelphia. Let's go to twenty twenty two.
- 4:25Speaker 1: They only had two late round picks. One is still here.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Kyron Johnson was a miss. He was a very raw, athletic,
- 4:34Speaker 3: undersized edge rusher. He played on special teams in twenty two.
- 4:38Speaker 3: He goes cut him. He went to the Steelers in
- 4:40Speaker 3: twenty threees out of the league. That was a miss.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Grand cock Y Terror is a hit. He was actually
- 4:45Speaker 3: their number two toen end last season. Now Andrew made
- 4:48Speaker 3: a great point. I totally agree with him. They misused
- 4:53Speaker 3: Grandcock Terra Mike. The strangeness of the cross blocks. That's
- 4:57Speaker 3: when you line up a guy left and you get
- 5:00Speaker 3: him a cross formation and block of the right. That
- 5:01Speaker 3: was just bad use. They really screwed up last year
- 5:04Speaker 3: the way they used third tight ends other than Gottazi
- 5:06Speaker 3: Dallas gotter At a great year in terms of blocking.
- 5:09Speaker 3: That was bad. But Grant Calcatara is a mild hit.
- 5:11Speaker 3: It's a hit. He came back on the second contract,
- 5:14Speaker 3: so look, they got some value out of Calcuatar. He's
- 5:16Speaker 3: clearly not good enough, but he's back on the football team.
- 5:19Speaker 1: He is back here a six round pick. Crocketar, by
- 5:22Speaker 1: the way, an interesting story. He had retired in college
- 5:25Speaker 1: and then came back and has gues had some concussion
- 5:28Speaker 1: problems at the collegiate level. That's twenty twenty two. They
- 5:32Speaker 1: had two six round picks. One is still here, Grant Calcatar.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Let's go to twenty twenty three. Interesting one. This one
- 5:39Speaker 1: has three guys who were all still here.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, So let me explain Khilley Ringo again,
- 5:45Speaker 3: low and starter, high and backup. That means you got
- 5:47Speaker 3: to be the first guy off the bench. They tried
- 5:50Speaker 3: to Killy Ringo two years in a row to be
- 5:51Speaker 3: a starter. Not only did he not become a starter
- 5:54Speaker 3: last season, he got taken out of the rotation. He's
- 5:57Speaker 3: only on special teams. I know he's an elite special
- 5:59Speaker 3: teams player. This is a miss on migrating system which
- 6:03Speaker 3: I've gotten from people I trust to work in the
- 6:05Speaker 3: National Football League. On the scout inside. I've run it
- 6:08Speaker 3: by people. This is a miss. It's not a bad miss.
- 6:10Speaker 3: It's a miss because he's no longer thought of to
- 6:13Speaker 3: be part of the backup group at cornerback. Tanner McKee
- 6:17Speaker 3: is a hit. He won the start, he won the
- 6:19Speaker 3: number two job. He's clearly at number two. He's seemed
- 6:22Speaker 3: very well around the National Football League. If he's not
- 6:24Speaker 3: traded up through the draft whereby this year's trade deadline,
- 6:30Speaker 3: I fully expect him to get a starting job elsewhere.
- 6:33Speaker 3: This is absolutely a hit. And Moro Joemo is a
- 6:35Speaker 3: home run Mike. He's a starting defensive tackle. So we
- 6:40Speaker 3: talked about this. Jeff and I had information. This sounds
- 6:43Speaker 3: kind of funny, but this is a scouting report from
- 6:45Speaker 3: two people we know. We turned on scouting reports. He
- 6:50Speaker 3: was kind of a know it all, very very smart, intellectual.
- 6:54Speaker 3: You can hear him. He sounds like a center if
- 6:56Speaker 3: you ever hear him speak. He's very smart, high character
- 6:58Speaker 3: guy off the field, but he kind of kind of
- 7:01Speaker 3: rubbed people the wrong way. He's kind of a know
- 7:02Speaker 3: it all. He was at least in College of Texas.
- 7:04Speaker 3: But you know what, who cares run by Howie here?
- 7:07Speaker 3: It doesn't get it. If you get a seventh round
- 7:09Speaker 3: start of Mike, that is a home run.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Yeah, no doubt about it.
- 7:13Speaker 1: And you know, you remember Milton Williams they took in
- 7:16Speaker 1: the third round, so U Joe want to get him
- 7:18Speaker 1: in the seventh round. That is a as you mentioned,
- 7:21Speaker 1: a home run. I don't think anybody, by the way
- 7:24Speaker 1: listening is going to argue with you about a Ringo
- 7:26Speaker 1: being a miss. He just has not made the impact
- 7:28Speaker 1: that they had hope with all his.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Yes, Mike, the Ringo truthers who would battle with jeff
- 7:33Speaker 3: Ry are and are uh and are you're too born?
- 7:36Speaker 3: They it took them two years to submit to tell
- 7:38Speaker 3: us we were right. We got mf We got cursed
- 7:42Speaker 3: out Mike, you would it was god, I mean, it
- 7:44Speaker 3: got became personal. It's never personal with us. We tell
- 7:47Speaker 3: you this is what we know. It'll never work. He's
- 7:49Speaker 3: too stiff.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Well, hey, no, uh.
- 7:52Speaker 1: I know. You know how people view certain reporters when
- 7:55Speaker 1: they report things, and unfortunately one of them is in
- 7:57Speaker 1: the news for some bad reasons.
- 7:58Speaker 2: But I won't see got a lot of visceral.
- 8:01Speaker 1: She got a lot of visceral because of her reporting.
- 8:04Speaker 1: And so you know how people go after you if
- 8:07Speaker 1: they like or don't like your report.
- 8:09Speaker 3: To understand, Mike, it's never personal with me. Like I've
- 8:12Speaker 3: told a couple of GMS, I've had problems with my
- 8:15Speaker 3: job if I put the reporter hat down in terms
- 8:18Speaker 3: of evaluation. If the guy's been a great director and
- 8:21Speaker 3: I don't like the guy, I'm sorry. It's not my
- 8:23Speaker 3: job to like the guy or not. I have to
- 8:25Speaker 3: say that guy's done a great job. I mean that
- 8:28Speaker 3: that to me has missed on reporting. Sometimes reporters called grudges.
- 8:32Speaker 3: It's unfortunate, but it is what it is.
- 8:33Speaker 1: All Right, Let's go to twenty twenty four where there's
- 8:37Speaker 1: a lot of very interesting names here and you're wondering, like,
- 8:40Speaker 1: how much did any of these guys really help the
- 8:43Speaker 1: team out?
- 8:44Speaker 3: Yeah, Andrew and I have got to know Will Shipley.
- 8:47Speaker 3: We like Will Shipley personally, but it's our job in
- 8:49Speaker 3: this show to evaluate him. It's been two years of
- 8:53Speaker 3: mixed like he's helping them on kickoff returns, coverage teams,
- 8:57Speaker 3: and a little bit on third down. But Tank Bixby
- 9:01Speaker 3: took his job, Mike. I mean they gave up two picks,
- 9:03Speaker 3: but they didn't hand Tank Pixy this number two job.
- 9:06Speaker 3: He took it from wilshiply, so Will's got to do better.
- 9:09Speaker 3: He's kind of undersized. It's not from a body type.
- 9:12Speaker 3: He's got a smaller lower body. He's got some juice.
- 9:16Speaker 3: We know that we've talked about this much. He's got
- 9:18Speaker 3: to do better. This is a big year for him.
- 9:20Speaker 3: Fifth round and Niah Smith I, man, this one bothered me.
- 9:24Speaker 3: We thought he'd be a gadget player, a backup slot receiver,
- 9:27Speaker 3: had multiple foot injuries, never made. He's now with the
- 9:30Speaker 3: Carolina Panthers. Jeremiah Trotter. You know what he's contributed. He's
- 9:34Speaker 3: one of the better special teams players. This is a
- 9:37Speaker 3: mild hit so far. They really like him. Smart football player.
- 9:42Speaker 3: As you know, he's about half the size of his dad.
- 9:44Speaker 3: But Jeremiah Trott Junior has done a good job. Trevor
- 9:48Speaker 3: Keagan not surprised. We noted this when he was drafted
- 9:51Speaker 3: out of Michigan. Bad upper body, had some problems. Clubs
- 9:55Speaker 3: told us that they were concerned about long time longevity.
- 9:59Speaker 3: He didn't have a strong upper body, and the Eagles
- 10:01Speaker 3: missed on him. This is a round where you want
- 10:03Speaker 3: your backups to be your top backups Mic fourth or
- 10:06Speaker 3: fifth round Johnny Wilson. I'll tell you what, how much
- 10:10Speaker 3: did they miss in blocking for the run MIC last season?
- 10:13Speaker 1: I think that's a great point by you, is you know,
- 10:16Speaker 1: I talk about the opening night they had two nondescript
- 10:20Speaker 1: injuries that most people just kind of said, eh whatever,
- 10:22Speaker 1: with the fullback and Johnny Wilson going down, and they
- 10:27Speaker 1: missed who knows what the offense different would have looked
- 10:30Speaker 1: like with those two guys A part of it, no
- 10:32Speaker 1: doubt about it. Probably took a couple plays out of
- 10:35Speaker 1: the playbook because you didn't Rother have anybody to play
- 10:38Speaker 1: fullback at that same level. And Johnny Wilson, they never
- 10:41Speaker 1: really could replace his blocking either.
- 10:44Speaker 3: And the last one is stillan McMahon. Andre and I
- 10:46Speaker 3: tell a funny story. I don't want to give it away.
- 10:48Speaker 3: You could hear it on YouTube or watch it on
- 10:50Speaker 3: YouTube if you want, or hear it on any podcasting platform.
- 10:53Speaker 3: But we kind of knew. We both said he's never
- 10:54Speaker 3: going to make it when we saw on the field,
- 10:56Speaker 3: and I'll leave it at that. You can kind of
- 10:57Speaker 3: figure it out, but look, you got to give three years.
- 11:02Speaker 3: But I would say the one we need more out
- 11:05Speaker 3: of will Shipley if we're doing a bet, if we're
- 11:07Speaker 3: doing a full evaluation, Johnny Wilson had a major knee injury.
- 11:10Speaker 3: I was there at training camp. I felt so bad
- 11:12Speaker 3: for him when he was carried off. It looked bad
- 11:13Speaker 3: and it was bad. So Trot Junior, to be honest
- 11:17Speaker 3: with you, has been their most productive and it's only
- 11:19Speaker 3: on special teams.
- 11:20Speaker 2: All right, let's go to.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Twenty twenty five, which obviously a fourth, three fists and
- 11:26Speaker 1: four six round picks last year.
- 11:29Speaker 2: What do we got?
- 11:30Speaker 3: Yeah, a little concerning Ty Robinson. Boy, we were excited.
- 11:32Speaker 3: I know the Eagles were excited. A lot of people
- 11:34Speaker 3: in Scotlan where the NFL. We talked, you like him.
- 11:36Speaker 3: He's really he's kind of a tweener. He's really not
- 11:39Speaker 3: a nose tackle. He's more of a five technique in
- 11:43Speaker 3: their scheme. They got to figure it out with him.
- 11:45Speaker 3: He'll make it because he's a fourth rounder. But Andrew
- 11:48Speaker 3: made a really good point with Byron Young's development. There's
- 11:51Speaker 3: he's not being out Byron Young. Byron Young was terrific
- 11:53Speaker 3: in his role. So he right now, Ty Robinson's the
- 11:56Speaker 3: fifty tackle and look, they may draft another one so
- 11:59Speaker 3: he's got to be better. It's a big offseason for
- 12:01Speaker 3: Mac McWilliams. We thought he had a good training camp,
- 12:04Speaker 3: but he only played a nine percent of the defensive
- 12:07Speaker 3: snap sixteen percent of special teams. Very disappointed he didn't
- 12:10Speaker 3: get on the field. Mike, jury's out on him. Small
- 12:13Speaker 3: Monton played a lot on special teams. It's funny. I
- 12:17Speaker 3: never thought i'd say that they're too good at inside backer.
- 12:19Speaker 3: He can't get on the field on defense. Drew Kenno,
- 12:22Speaker 3: he might remember his dad, Pete Kennell, played for the
- 12:25Speaker 3: Seahawks and the Jets. He's a little bit too small
- 12:27Speaker 3: to play guard, but they really like him to be
- 12:29Speaker 3: their backup center. He's got to prove it next one.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Kyle McCord bust missed his arm. He got exposed in
- 12:36Speaker 3: training camp. Really weak arm. You know, it's ironic. They're
- 12:40Speaker 3: playing a true West Coast defense and he would have
- 12:42Speaker 3: been a great fit for it. Where is he He's
- 12:44Speaker 3: in Green Bay where they run the true West Coast offense.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Miles Hinton talking to soon a scouting another day, actually
- 12:51Speaker 3: a couple of days ago, about him really good athlete,
- 12:55Speaker 3: more of a finesse player. Needs to back up and
- 12:57Speaker 3: get stronger.
- 12:58Speaker 2: You know.
- 12:59Speaker 3: The one I'm really excited is a guy who played
- 13:01Speaker 3: one game who is the biggest project that they drafted.
- 13:04Speaker 3: Cam Williams had some great snaps against the Washington Commandos
- 13:08Speaker 3: in the Week seventeen or Week eighteen game. And Antoine
- 13:11Speaker 3: Powellryland out a twenty five and a half sacks at
- 13:14Speaker 3: Virginia Tech. After you transfer from Florida missed, he got
- 13:17Speaker 3: cut and he's now with the Bengals.
- 13:19Speaker 1: All right, I'll ask you this as you get out
- 13:21Speaker 1: of here. Whose dad was better? Kendall's or Hitting's?
- 13:25Speaker 3: Oh? Oh, hinting? Chris Hinten was trade for John Alway.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Chris Sinen was a terrific player for a guard for
- 13:29Speaker 3: the Colts. Very underrated play. In fact, if you watch
- 13:33Speaker 3: the Way the thirty for thirty l Way to Brino,
- 13:37Speaker 3: watch Chris Hinton. He's so good in this see you know,
- 13:42Speaker 3: because he can remember he got you know, he was Look,
- 13:44Speaker 3: he got trade for Hall of famer. What can I
- 13:45Speaker 3: tell you? It's a great You could say Marvin Demoff,
- 13:48Speaker 3: who is the agent for John Elway and Dan Marino.
- 13:52Speaker 3: You have to have you ever seen this one? It's phenomenal.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, I see that one. And if you said
- 13:57Speaker 2: the lay one on, I think it's Netflix. Have you
- 13:59Speaker 2: watched that one?
- 14:00Speaker 3: Know? The only one? And no, I have not watched that.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Is that new? Is that recent came.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Out somewhat recently? Yes, it's just it's very very good. Yeah.
- 14:10Speaker 3: A friend of John we had close front of his
- 14:13Speaker 3: past waves an agent whose name escapes me but I
- 14:17Speaker 3: can't think was his last name, Jeff, I've got his
- 14:19Speaker 3: last name. He was actually around for many years. But yeah, John,
- 14:24Speaker 3: John was actually a very good personal executive who who
- 14:28Speaker 3: obviously knows Vic Fangio, John Highway, Vic Fan Vic Fano
- 14:31Speaker 3: a head coach, head coach.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Yep, all right, there you go.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Football four Draft coming up. We got plenty more this
- 14:36Speaker 1: week here on the Football four Here on the Sports
- 14:38Speaker 1: Bass Live is draft.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Season is upon us. Thanks man, go, thank you. Gaplin
- 14:42Speaker 2: is back on Friday Show.
