Matthew 22:41-46 The Question They Could Not Answer: Whose Son Is the Christ?
In Matthew 22:41–46, Jesus turns the questioning back on the Pharisees: “What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?” They correctly identify the Messiah as the Son of David—but Jesus then points them to Psalm 110:1, where David calls the Messiah “Lord.”
The religious leaders understood that the Christ would be David’s descendant, but they failed to recognize that He would also be David’s Lord. Jesus is not merely another teacher, prophet, or earthly king. He is the eternal Son of God, the promised Messiah, and the sovereign Lord before whom every enemy will finally be defeated.
