- 0:05Speaker 2: Playfake, go to roll right, dumps it off into the
- 0:07Speaker 2: right flass to Michael Bumpers, who bounces off of one tackler,
- 0:10Speaker 2: gets inside the forty down of the thirty five yard line.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Powered by Seahawks dot Com.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Matt Pumpfak's looking at the gold line. He throws it
- 0:17Speaker 2: into the m zone. Touchdown. Say Hawks, it's Michael Bumpas
- 0:21Speaker 2: with a diving catching the end zone on ten yard
- 0:24Speaker 2: touchdown reception for Bumpus, and the kid out of Washington
- 0:28Speaker 2: State has found himself a place on this team.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Now, here's your host, Nasa Jovie.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Welcome back, Welcome back, Welcome back, Bombas back like we
- 0:38Speaker 3: never left.
- 0:40Speaker 4: You're listening to another edition of Hawk Talk.
- 0:42Speaker 3: The preview. Seahawks regular season football is here. Twenty twenty
- 0:46Speaker 3: four is here. We're very excited. It's been a long
- 0:49Speaker 3: time since we've been here with you, bump We got
- 0:51Speaker 3: a new head coach, Mike McDonald, youngest in the NFL,
- 0:54Speaker 3: almost an entire new coaching staff, new coordinators grub Dirty Harbaugh,
- 0:58Speaker 3: new players dots in Baker Jenkins, Wallace Tomlinson, Ferrell Brown,
- 1:02Speaker 3: La Viscas Channaut. We got upgrades to the facility. We
- 1:05Speaker 3: had upgrades allumin field and for the first time, Bump,
- 1:08Speaker 3: we've been doing this for five plus years. People can
- 1:10Speaker 3: see us now. Hey we're on video, baby, little studio
- 1:13Speaker 3: in here. Yeah, Mama, we made it. Hey, we're in there.
- 1:16Speaker 5: It's like the first day at school all over again.
- 1:18Speaker 5: You know.
- 1:19Speaker 6: I used to lay out my outfit them baggy jeans,
- 1:22Speaker 6: thirty eight. I should be wearing thirty two's two XL
- 1:25Speaker 6: T and the JS Man.
- 1:26Speaker 5: This is what it feels like right now.
- 1:28Speaker 4: Yeah, you know.
- 1:28Speaker 3: And I like that you had the Jays because sometimes
- 1:30Speaker 3: I've been like, you know, I had the case Swiss
- 1:31Speaker 3: with the rubber bank, the.
- 1:32Speaker 5: Case swiss yup, the case around the jeans.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe a little Sean John May a little fat
- 1:36Speaker 3: farm saying anyway, But.
- 1:39Speaker 4: Yeah, Bump, I'm happy to be on a camera with you.
- 1:41Speaker 4: This should be really fun.
- 1:41Speaker 3: We're gonna give you the same good insight we've always
- 1:43Speaker 3: given you, guys, getting you ready, So let's just jump
- 1:47Speaker 3: right into this roster, Bump. Twenty twenty four Seahawks. You've
- 1:49Speaker 3: been watching them all camp, you know, I'm bumping Stacy
- 1:51Speaker 3: or all the things that you're doing. You've been here
- 1:53Speaker 3: watching this team. Just kind of your overall thoughts of
- 1:56Speaker 3: this roster and how different the twenty twenty four team
- 1:58Speaker 3: can look from last year.
- 2:00Speaker 6: Meant offensively, the roster has changed a little bit. Like
- 2:02Speaker 6: the guys you're gonna rely on are still there, right,
- 2:04Speaker 6: Gene is still there, Ken Walker, Zach Sharbonne, Kenny McIntosh
- 2:08Speaker 6: might touch the rock this year.
- 2:09Speaker 5: That gets me excited. Right, The Titan room has change
- 2:13Speaker 5: a bit.
- 2:13Speaker 6: You got Pel Brown and Brady Russell, which I was
- 2:16Speaker 6: glad Brady made the team three eight, was making plays
- 2:18Speaker 6: in preseason in aj Barner, But and then the offensive line, right,
- 2:22Speaker 6: will see what Gabe, excuse me, what Abe Lucas looks
- 2:25Speaker 6: like throughout the season. You bring over Lincoln Thomlinson, you
- 2:28Speaker 6: got your draft, a few guys, Christian Haynes, you got
- 2:30Speaker 6: Connor Wins.
- 2:31Speaker 5: There's some changes there.
- 2:32Speaker 6: But there's one player who's got my attention the most, right,
- 2:35Speaker 6: and it's none of the guys that has mentioned Laviskas channel.
- 2:38Speaker 6: I mean, he made some noise this preseason, so I'm
- 2:41Speaker 6: happy to see how they use him. He's on special
- 2:43Speaker 6: teams made a couple of catches in the return game.
- 2:45Speaker 6: I think he's gonna be big offensively. Defensively, what stands
- 2:49Speaker 6: out to you man defensively?
- 2:51Speaker 3: First of all, we've heard it a million times this offseason,
- 2:54Speaker 3: and I've gotten to see it a little bit up
- 2:55Speaker 3: close and personal, and it's just coach Mike McDonald, right,
- 2:58Speaker 3: he's a genius. Tyrold new linebacker today spoke about it
- 3:01Speaker 3: in this press conference that like, I don't even know
- 3:04Speaker 3: if he's aware of how smart he is, right, And
- 3:07Speaker 3: everyone on defense is locked in, they're bought in, and
- 3:09Speaker 3: we're just gonna see different stuff. I feel like that
- 3:11Speaker 3: we haven't seen recently, right. You know, we all remember
- 3:14Speaker 3: the game against Baltimore this past season wasn't fun for
- 3:16Speaker 3: anyone in the Seahawks uniform, right, and just the things
- 3:19Speaker 3: that people saw. So I'm excited about just him being
- 3:21Speaker 3: in charge. Then you bring in Dirty who's had a
- 3:23Speaker 3: ton of success with Dallas in different places he's been.
- 3:26Speaker 3: But I look around and I go the front seven bumpy,
- 3:29Speaker 3: I've excited and such a bummer that our guy Channon
- 3:32Speaker 3: Wosu he'll be back out there eventually. But he got
- 3:34Speaker 3: a little dinged up in the preseason. But when you
- 3:36Speaker 3: look at this stuff, Okay, boy a coming into year two,
- 3:39Speaker 3: Derek Hall was messing people up this preseason. He's going
- 3:42Speaker 3: to take a jump Mafe Draymont. Then you got Leo,
- 3:46Speaker 3: Leonard Williams, Jaron Reed Hankins. Of course the number one
- 3:50Speaker 3: first round pick, I should say, Byron Murphy. So I
- 3:53Speaker 3: look at this front seven and I feel like, sorry,
- 3:55Speaker 3: then you had the linebackers Dotson and Baker Bump.
- 3:58Speaker 5: Yeah, I feel.
- 4:00Speaker 4: Like this front seven on paper.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Even Mike McDonald's alluded to this, I feel like this
- 4:04Speaker 3: is one of the better front sevens he's ever coached.
- 4:06Speaker 4: And he's coming from Baltimore, so that's saying something.
- 4:08Speaker 3: So for me, I'm really excited about what they can
- 4:10Speaker 3: do from a pressure standpoint and just all the looks
- 4:12Speaker 3: they can give. I just feel like this front seven
- 4:14Speaker 3: a is going to be way better stopping to run,
- 4:17Speaker 3: way better overall defense, and that's just gonna make the
- 4:19Speaker 3: life of guys like Spoon, Riquell and Jewy Love that
- 4:23Speaker 3: much easier.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Man. So I'm pumped up about this front seven.
- 4:25Speaker 6: Yeah, when you can eat in the box, the back
- 4:27Speaker 6: end is gonna be fine man, Jay Love, big us.
- 4:29Speaker 5: Jay Love got that big contract man three years. What
- 4:32Speaker 5: do you like? Twelve million a year?
- 4:33Speaker 6: Good for you, son, and bringing in Wallace and Jenkins
- 4:37Speaker 6: as what that safety spot? You know, Jamal's not here obviously,
- 4:39Speaker 6: Quandrey Thor over there in Tennessee. But no, I feel
- 4:42Speaker 6: good about the back end. And I felt good about
- 4:44Speaker 6: the back end before the box got solidified.
- 4:47Speaker 5: So now that the box is locked down, the back
- 4:49Speaker 5: end should be good.
- 4:50Speaker 6: The personnel is there now they got to go out
- 4:52Speaker 6: and scheme and execute.
- 4:54Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the thing about football, right, everything is great,
- 4:56Speaker 3: and everything is great when you're undefeated. Right, everyone's always underfeed.
- 5:00Speaker 3: But I'm really excited about it.
- 5:01Speaker 4: Twelve.
- 5:01Speaker 3: So you heard it here first from Bump Hot Take.
- 5:04Speaker 3: The Boys are gonna be good this year. Expect some
- 5:06Speaker 3: big things and I'm excited about it. But let's jump
- 5:08Speaker 3: over to the Seahawks Week one opponent. What's on tap?
- 5:14Speaker 1: What's on tap?
- 5:16Speaker 3: Denver Broncos coming into town on Lumnfield this weekend. The
- 5:19Speaker 3: Broncos last year in twenty twenty three were eight and nine,
- 5:23Speaker 3: good for third place in the AFC West, and Sean
- 5:26Speaker 3: Payton's entering his second season as head coach. And you know,
- 5:28Speaker 3: despite them going eight to nine last year, they actually
- 5:30Speaker 3: had a three game improvement from the year before. But
- 5:33Speaker 3: the Broncos man, they've had some tough times.
- 5:36Speaker 5: Bom, Yeah, they have.
- 5:37Speaker 3: They have not had a winning season since twenty sixteen
- 5:40Speaker 3: Peyton the year after Peyton so had a winning season,
- 5:43Speaker 3: but they haven't been to the playoffs since twenty fifteen
- 5:45Speaker 3: with Peyton where they won.
- 5:46Speaker 4: The Super Bowl. Dang, So it's been a little minute.
- 5:49Speaker 4: They've had some rough seasons.
- 5:50Speaker 3: A lot of different quarterbacks will get into later, but
- 5:53Speaker 3: the main guy that's headlining their team is Bonicks. Everyone
- 5:57Speaker 3: in Seattle should be very familiar with Bonick, especially if
- 5:59Speaker 3: you're like packed twelve football. He's gonna be making his
- 6:02Speaker 3: first NFL start this weekend and we'll dive all into
- 6:04Speaker 3: Bowknicks when we get the man up. But just taking
- 6:07Speaker 3: a look how Denver finished the season bump. Offensively, they're
- 6:10Speaker 3: twenty six averaging two hundred and ninety eight yards per game,
- 6:13Speaker 3: eighteenth running the ball one hundred and six yards per game.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Throwing the rock, they were twenty fourth at one hundred
- 6:19Speaker 3: ninety one yards per game and then points per game.
- 6:22Speaker 3: They were nineteenth at twenty one, So obviously it's gonna
- 6:25Speaker 3: look completely different. Judy's gone, the big number three, Russell
- 6:29Speaker 3: Wilson is no longer there, so their offense is gonna
- 6:31Speaker 3: look different. So it's hard to take too much from
- 6:34Speaker 3: that bump. But when you stand out, I mean, they
- 6:35Speaker 3: have a lot of room to improve when you look
- 6:37Speaker 3: at it.
- 6:38Speaker 6: Yeah, Sean Payne has this guy. It never felt like
- 6:40Speaker 6: Russell Wilson was his dude. It was kind of like,
- 6:42Speaker 6: all right, I'll take this job, and I guess I'll
- 6:44Speaker 6: put up with Russell Wilson.
- 6:45Speaker 5: I don't think he got a fair shot in Denver.
- 6:47Speaker 6: And let me point out, for all the Russell haters
- 6:49Speaker 6: out there, we still got a little love for Russell.
- 6:51Speaker 6: His second year wasn't that bad, all right, They just
- 6:53Speaker 6: weren't winning ball game. So now that Sean Payne has
- 6:56Speaker 6: this guy, the young of Bownicks, who is the oldest
- 6:59Speaker 6: for rookie in the games, sixty plus games at the
- 7:02Speaker 6: college level, which is crazy to me, he should be
- 7:05Speaker 6: able to mold this offense the way that he wants to.
- 7:08Speaker 6: Last year, on defense, they were twenty ninth overall out
- 7:11Speaker 6: three hundred and seventy points. When it comes to RUSS
- 7:14Speaker 6: shards per game allowed, they were thirty ath one hundred
- 7:16Speaker 6: and thirty seven yards per game passing yards giving up
- 7:19Speaker 6: every game two hundred and thirty three. There were twenty
- 7:21Speaker 6: second in points allowed twenty four point three. That's twenty seven.
- 7:25Speaker 6: It's crazy because Russell's first year that defense was on
- 7:27Speaker 6: point right the second and then he couldn't get right.
- 7:30Speaker 6: And then the second year he got better and the
- 7:32Speaker 6: defense kind of, you know, falls it a little bit.
- 7:33Speaker 5: So it's been up and down. You mentioned it, twenty fifteen.
- 7:36Speaker 6: Since they've been in the playoffs, yeah, man, or twenty
- 7:38Speaker 6: sixteen since they've been into the player.
- 7:39Speaker 4: Twenty sixteen, winning seeds in twenty fifteen playoffs.
- 7:41Speaker 5: Goodness gracious. So they know about ups and downs.
- 7:44Speaker 4: Yeah man. So it's gonna be interesting.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Obviously, they have a lot, you know, I think they're
- 7:47Speaker 3: playing from a standpoint. I don't know how high expectations
- 7:50Speaker 3: are down there in Denver, but I know they're kind
- 7:52Speaker 3: of playing with house money. I feel like there's some
- 7:54Speaker 3: optimism a new quarterback. So we'll definitely get deeper into
- 7:57Speaker 3: what those Broncos look like. But you know, us, we're
- 7:59Speaker 3: big time historians. Like to look at what happened the
- 8:02Speaker 3: last time these two meant.
- 8:04Speaker 4: So let's know the history. No, your history pretty hard
- 8:08Speaker 4: to forget.
- 8:09Speaker 5: Bump.
- 8:09Speaker 3: It was twenty twenty two, the Seahawks win a thriller
- 8:13Speaker 3: at lumin Field the season open, and the last time
- 8:15Speaker 3: these two.
- 8:16Speaker 5: Teams that Monday night.
- 8:17Speaker 4: It was Monday was Monday night. Yes, it was Broncos.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Overall, though these are two obviously AFC West old rivals,
- 8:23Speaker 3: Broncos lead all time series thirty five to twenty two
- 8:26Speaker 3: in the regular season. Seahawks are two to zero in
- 8:28Speaker 3: the postseason, obviously, including Super Bowl forty eight. The Hawks
- 8:31Speaker 3: have also won three of their last four meetings. But
- 8:34Speaker 3: that home game, that Monday opener, Monday night twenty twenty two,
- 8:38Speaker 3: we got to see Geno Smith for the first time
- 8:39Speaker 3: as the real starting quarterback. Russell Wilson made his return
- 8:42Speaker 3: to lumen Field, and Bump that day was electric.
- 8:45Speaker 5: Right, Yeah, it was awesome, man, it was a thriller.
- 8:48Speaker 6: You mentioned Geno Smith doing his thing, and he was
- 8:50Speaker 6: twenty three of twenty eight for one hundred ninety five yards.
- 8:53Speaker 5: He also had two touchdowns. Will Disley, he.
- 8:55Speaker 6: Ain't with us no more, men, Good luck uncle will
- 8:57Speaker 6: Kobe Parkinson as well, and with this no more. He's
- 9:00Speaker 6: still balling though they had touchdowns and he was seventeen
- 9:03Speaker 6: of eighteen in the first half. So Gino hit the
- 9:05Speaker 6: scene in that lime green and was like, look, it's
- 9:08Speaker 6: my team now.
- 9:09Speaker 5: I remember the crowd, Gene no, gene no. I was
- 9:12Speaker 5: happy for the dude.
- 9:13Speaker 3: Man.
- 9:13Speaker 5: He went out and and he did his thing.
- 9:14Speaker 6: Man, But the Seahawks came up with a They force
- 9:17Speaker 6: a fumble, two Denver fumbles on the Seahawks one yard
- 9:20Speaker 6: line in the second half, and I think that's that
- 9:22Speaker 6: kind of gets missed. I forgot about that, those big
- 9:24Speaker 6: plays on the goal line. So the first game of
- 9:26Speaker 6: the season is primetime. Russell's on the other sideline, Gino's
- 9:29Speaker 6: doing this thing. The defense caused a couple of fumbles,
- 9:32Speaker 6: and some other things happened too.
- 9:34Speaker 4: Yeah, bump, yeah, I think it. Everyone remembers the field goal, right, yeah.
- 9:38Speaker 3: Russell Wilson has the ball in his hands as the
- 9:40Speaker 3: fourth and five and everyone's justsooming.
- 9:42Speaker 4: We're up in the We're up in the now T
- 9:45Speaker 4: Mobile end zone.
- 9:45Speaker 3: But the old Ring of Honor Lounger sitting there and
- 9:47Speaker 3: we're watching the glass and getting ready for the post
- 9:49Speaker 3: game show. We're thinking, okay, well they're gonna go for this.
- 9:51Speaker 3: They're obviously going for this, and then more time kind
- 9:53Speaker 3: of goes off the clock, and more time goes off
- 9:55Speaker 3: the clock, and you go, no, they're not gonna They're
- 9:57Speaker 3: not gonna send out in it many out McManus for
- 10:01Speaker 3: a sixty four yard field goal attempt. As we know,
- 10:04Speaker 3: Bronco's twenty more seconds went off the clock, tried the
- 10:07Speaker 3: low percentage kick, didn't work, Seahawks win, and we were
- 10:11Speaker 3: provided the probably the best post game or one of
- 10:13Speaker 3: the best post game soundbites ever. Obviously there's been a
- 10:15Speaker 3: couple other historic ones here in Seattle. Richard Trumpan, but
- 10:18Speaker 3: you know they when Lisa Salters I believe, asked him,
- 10:21Speaker 3: you know, about getting wrote off, He's like, they wrote
- 10:22Speaker 3: me off.
- 10:23Speaker 4: I am right back, though, that's a problem.
- 10:25Speaker 5: That's what's up.
- 10:26Speaker 3: And that was the beginning of our friend Gino Smith
- 10:29Speaker 3: really taking making a statement for what quarterback you could
- 10:31Speaker 3: be in this town. So that was a great memory
- 10:33Speaker 3: and I'm hoping the Seahawks can kind of rekindle some
- 10:35Speaker 3: of that because while that season had up and downs,
- 10:37Speaker 3: it did end in the playoffs, and it was definitely
- 10:39Speaker 3: a season where the Seahawks kind of, you know, exceeded expectations.
- 10:42Speaker 3: So I'm definitely hoping we can get that to that.
- 10:46Speaker 3: But we got to spin it back to the NFC West.
- 10:48Speaker 4: Check out what's the word.
- 10:55Speaker 2: The Seahawks or the NFC West champs? Again?
- 10:58Speaker 4: What's the word in the West? On hot Talk?
- 11:02Speaker 5: Well, I'll tell you what the word was.
- 11:04Speaker 6: In twenty twenty three, the Niners won the division again.
- 11:07Speaker 6: They were twelve and five, the Rams ten and seven,
- 11:09Speaker 6: the Hawks were nine and eight, and the Arizona Cardinals
- 11:12Speaker 6: were four and thirteen. The Seahawks missed the playoff for
- 11:15Speaker 6: the fourth time and fourteen seasons.
- 11:17Speaker 5: Man, that was rough.
- 11:19Speaker 6: But what you got some of those players back in
- 11:21Speaker 6: reasons to be optimistic about this group. So we're gonna
- 11:23Speaker 6: watch that. But let's keep going down the division. The
- 11:26Speaker 6: forty nine Ers did what they do. They went to
- 11:28Speaker 6: the playoffs, went to the conference finals in the playoffs,
- 11:30Speaker 6: and couldn't come up with a big win. Hard to
- 11:32Speaker 6: be a Niners fan. They built you up all year
- 11:34Speaker 6: and then they just let you down at the end
- 11:36Speaker 6: of the year. Sure, big upset Niner game, beat me
- 11:39Speaker 6: bang all right, Arizona, Man, it was tough for them.
- 11:42Speaker 5: They end up going four and thirteen.
- 11:44Speaker 6: But what I respect about that whole situation is is
- 11:46Speaker 6: Kyler Murray came back.
- 11:47Speaker 5: He didn't have to play last season.
- 11:49Speaker 6: He was banged with ACL he was coming off of
- 11:51Speaker 6: didn't have to play, but he got out there and
- 11:54Speaker 6: he did his thing, and the team looked looked okay
- 11:56Speaker 6: at the end of the year, looked all right. And
- 11:58Speaker 6: then the Los Angeles Rams, Man, they shocked the NFL.
- 12:02Speaker 6: They were at five and twelve and twenty twenty two,
- 12:05Speaker 6: and this in twenty twenty three.
- 12:07Speaker 5: I underestimated them.
- 12:09Speaker 6: No Trooper Cup was gonna be in the mix, and
- 12:11Speaker 6: then Pooka comes out and just arise, what fourteen hundred
- 12:14Speaker 6: yards on the season. Matthew Stafford has had his ups
- 12:17Speaker 6: and downs as well. No Aaron Donald this year, though,
- 12:20Speaker 6: which is gonna got refreshing for this league, especially in
- 12:24Speaker 6: this division. But yeah, the Rams, they were the biggest
- 12:26Speaker 6: surprise I think in the division last year.
- 12:28Speaker 3: With that question, I feel like a lot of us
- 12:30Speaker 3: made this comparison last year, but they were essentially the
- 12:32Speaker 3: twenty twenty two Seahawks, right where everyone assumed no this
- 12:35Speaker 3: team's gonna be horrible. They're gonna win four five games.
- 12:37Speaker 3: They come out and it's no surprise. Sean mcvay's a
- 12:40Speaker 3: great coach. I remember all the times we've had JB
- 12:42Speaker 3: Long on our pregame show, the Rams play by play guy.
- 12:44Speaker 3: He was talking about playoffs halfway through the year and
- 12:46Speaker 3: we were like, really, but you know, they still laughed
- 12:49Speaker 3: at it out there.
- 12:50Speaker 6: We laughed at him, and I texted jv I'm gonna
- 12:53Speaker 6: work with JB this year. And I texted him and said,
- 12:56Speaker 6: my bad dog, you were right, because they were like
- 12:58Speaker 6: three and three or something at the time.
- 13:00Speaker 3: He wrote an article is like here's the crazy optimism
- 13:02Speaker 3: of how the Rams get to the playoffs. Like stop
- 13:05Speaker 3: reading if you don't believe me, blah blah blah. So
- 13:06Speaker 3: we had fun with him about it and then yes,
- 13:09Speaker 3: that's right, you do. Hey, there's a new mc west
- 13:13Speaker 3: now this year, new coaches, Mike McDonald's in there. So
- 13:15Speaker 3: it'll be interesting to see what the Seahawks do, just
- 13:17Speaker 3: because it's obviously one of the best divisions in football,
- 13:20Speaker 3: so it should be a fun year bump. But let's
- 13:22Speaker 3: get back to these Denver Broncos. Get some matchups, man
- 13:25Speaker 3: up man up on Hawk Talk, like we typically do,
- 13:38Speaker 3: We're gonna start looking at the quarterbacks, the ones that
- 13:40Speaker 3: make a lot of the money here in the National
- 13:42Speaker 3: Football League.
- 13:43Speaker 4: So we're gonna start with bow Knicks, right.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Bo Knicks is the highly touted player out of Oregon
- 13:48Speaker 3: and Auburn, and he's gonna be the first rookie quarterback
- 13:51Speaker 3: to start for the Broncos since John Elway.
- 13:53Speaker 4: He was a pretty good player.
- 13:54Speaker 5: I believe he's right.
- 13:56Speaker 3: Yeah, So when he takes his first nap at Leomenfield
- 13:59Speaker 3: on Sunday, he'll be become the fourteenth different starting quarterback
- 14:03Speaker 3: since Manning put on the uniform in twenty fifteen.
- 14:05Speaker 5: Bro I can only name like four that many.
- 14:09Speaker 3: It's hard goodness Stidham, Paston Lynch. But brock Osilo.
- 14:14Speaker 6: Had a receiver start at quarterback one game, Lindsay, the
- 14:16Speaker 6: running back from the Yeah, yes, anyway, So that's that's
- 14:21Speaker 6: not great obviously, but there's a lot of new hype
- 14:24Speaker 6: and optimism in Denver.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Bo next with twelfth overall pick in the first round
- 14:28Speaker 3: of this past year's drafts. And like I mentioned it,
- 14:30Speaker 3: fans in the Northwest known about bon Nicks because he
- 14:32Speaker 3: was a baller at Oregon, was a baller at Auburn,
- 14:35Speaker 3: and he took his game to the next level. I
- 14:37Speaker 3: feel like Bump when he came to Oregon. You got
- 14:39Speaker 3: to see a lot of these games working for the
- 14:41Speaker 3: Pac twelve that aren't rip, but I mean he was.
- 14:46Speaker 3: He threw for four thy five and eight yards, forty
- 14:49Speaker 3: five touchdowns and just three interceptions. He might have won
- 14:52Speaker 3: the Heisman if he didn't lose the udup two to
- 14:54Speaker 3: separate times. But if you look at the numbers, it
- 14:56Speaker 3: definitely wasn't because of him.
- 14:58Speaker 6: No.
- 14:59Speaker 4: I mean, the dude is baller, so it'll be interesting.
- 15:01Speaker 3: I feel like he could have been up there in
- 15:03Speaker 3: the Heisman if, like I said, if they won those games.
- 15:05Speaker 3: He led the NCAA and pass completions, completion percentage, passing touchdowns.
- 15:09Speaker 3: You alluded to this earlier, sixty one starts in college crazy.
- 15:13Speaker 3: That is insane.
- 15:14Speaker 5: The fact that he was healthy for sixty one games
- 15:16Speaker 5: it's itself is nuts.
- 15:19Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:19Speaker 3: I mean, you essentially are getting a veteran player coming
- 15:22Speaker 3: out making that many starts and only playing He played
- 15:25Speaker 3: high school football in Alabama, going in the SEC at
- 15:27Speaker 3: Auburn high level. PAC twelve the best of Pac twelve
- 15:30Speaker 3: was looked maybe ever this last season, so he's definitely
- 15:33Speaker 3: battle tested in that bump and he's going against the
- 15:35Speaker 3: Seahawks defense that was twenty first against the pass last year. Obviously,
- 15:38Speaker 3: I expect things to change with Mike McDonald at the helm,
- 15:41Speaker 3: but bump, when you look at that, what do you
- 15:43Speaker 3: expect to see out of bow Knicks on Sunday?
- 15:45Speaker 5: Man? I expect to see some rookie moments too.
- 15:47Speaker 6: I mean, we got to praise him for what he
- 15:49Speaker 6: did in college because it happened, but also his preseason
- 15:53Speaker 6: was flawless. I think that out of the quarterbacks drafted
- 15:56Speaker 6: in the first round, he had the best preseason. Yes,
- 15:59Speaker 6: this preseason and things are vanilla, you're going up against
- 16:02Speaker 6: twos and threes, but he did what he was supposed
- 16:03Speaker 6: to do. So I'm expecting this guy to look like
- 16:06Speaker 6: a rookie at times, but also look like a guy
- 16:08Speaker 6: who's played the game for a long time.
- 16:11Speaker 5: So we shall see.
- 16:12Speaker 6: But uh mind we donald it after this young man
- 16:14Speaker 6: confuse him and one or two interceptions would would be
- 16:17Speaker 6: uh would be favorable for us? I think so for
- 16:20Speaker 6: sure for Chefs five, Yeah, what last year was it?
- 16:24Speaker 6: Last year the Giants four sacks, ten, ten, my bad
- 16:27Speaker 6: shirt six.
- 16:29Speaker 5: It was a lot, Yeah, it was a lot.
- 16:31Speaker 4: To the record.
- 16:32Speaker 6: Let's talk about our quarterback, Gino smith Man. This is
- 16:35Speaker 6: his third year as the starting quarterback here. His twenty
- 16:38Speaker 6: twenty two is better than his twenty twenty three, but
- 16:40Speaker 6: he still did some good things. He led five game
- 16:43Speaker 6: winning drives. My man was clutched. His seven goal ahead
- 16:46Speaker 6: touchdown passes in the fourth quarter or overtime were the
- 16:48Speaker 6: most in NFL history. He finished the year completing three
- 16:53Speaker 6: hundred and twenty three of four ninety nine for thirty
- 16:55Speaker 6: six hundred and twenty four yards, twenty touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
- 16:58Speaker 5: How much better can this man be with this old line?
- 17:00Speaker 6: You bring in some veterans, Lincoln Thomason, you got Connor Williams,
- 17:05Speaker 6: you bring back Cross, you draft Christian Haynes. I'm tired
- 17:09Speaker 6: of the carousel on this offensive line. But if that's
- 17:12Speaker 6: gonna happen with this group, I feel better about it
- 17:14Speaker 6: because of the mix of the old and the young.
- 17:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean obviously, and then you get a Lucas
- 17:19Speaker 4: eventually going.
- 17:19Speaker 5: To come back at some point.
- 17:20Speaker 3: So while we're only returning, I believe for this first
- 17:24Speaker 3: game one starter in Charles Cross because it was you
- 17:28Speaker 3: had Evan Brown starting at center, Damian Lewis, Phil Haynes,
- 17:32Speaker 3: and a Lucas Abe got hurt in that first game
- 17:34Speaker 3: last year.
- 17:34Speaker 4: So it's gonna be a different new look line. But
- 17:36Speaker 4: I love it. Manlancoln Thomlinson one of the smartest dudes
- 17:38Speaker 4: I've ever met. Mind you, that dude's going to be
- 17:40Speaker 4: a doctor.
- 17:40Speaker 3: All the crazy things there, and just you bring in
- 17:43Speaker 3: to Connor Williams, who's a baller, and then Christian Haynes
- 17:46Speaker 3: is going to eventually elevate Anthony Bradford's in there doing so.
- 17:49Speaker 3: I feel good about this offensive line and where it
- 17:51Speaker 3: could be. And I think Geno Smith could have a
- 17:52Speaker 3: big year. And then of course Ryan Grubby in the
- 17:54Speaker 3: quarterback player.
- 17:55Speaker 6: Football Focus has some dudes like twenty seventh in the game.
- 17:58Speaker 6: I like it, Thereyton, I like it keep Peyton because
- 18:01Speaker 6: these boys are going to play some good football.
- 18:03Speaker 3: And while we're talking about the offensive side of the ball,
- 18:05Speaker 3: let's get into the running back Ken Walker right, also
- 18:08Speaker 3: Zach Sharburn and Kenny Mckinjosh. I We've talked about it,
- 18:10Speaker 3: but I really want to look at ken Walker because
- 18:11Speaker 3: I feel like he his poison to have a pretty
- 18:13Speaker 3: good season this year. His first two years in a
- 18:16Speaker 3: Seahawk uniform. Twenty twenty two was when he was drafted.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Last year, he was just under one thousand yards, had
- 18:21Speaker 3: nine total touchdowns. His rushing numbers were slightly down from
- 18:25Speaker 3: the year before, but we still saw that home run
- 18:27Speaker 3: ability and that came out. He had a long and
- 18:29Speaker 3: forty five on the ground.
- 18:30Speaker 4: He had that.
- 18:30Speaker 3: Sixty four yard pass reception touchdown. I think get a
- 18:33Speaker 3: little dump back to the flat against the Commanders. Took
- 18:35Speaker 3: that to the house. And he ranks fifte in the
- 18:37Speaker 3: NFL since twenty twenty two with five games of at
- 18:40Speaker 3: least two rushing touchdowns. And I know this is the
- 18:43Speaker 3: season where people talk about how good of shape people
- 18:45Speaker 3: are in right, right, But when you look at.
- 18:47Speaker 4: Ken Walker, Mike like you look at he said, there's
- 18:49Speaker 4: no way you don't rush for fifteen hundred yards.
- 18:52Speaker 5: That's it.
- 18:52Speaker 3: You look at it, you say, that's fifteen hundred yards.
- 18:55Speaker 3: Bank it, write it down, do what you gotta do.
- 18:57Speaker 3: The man looks phenomenal. His hair is a little different.
- 18:59Speaker 4: He cut the hair.
- 19:00Speaker 6: It's a new look, can I say something about that,
- 19:02Speaker 6: say something. If you got a hair, don't cut it,
- 19:04Speaker 6: because some of us ain't blessed like that.
- 19:06Speaker 5: All Right.
- 19:06Speaker 6: I saw Ken walk. I go, Ken, you do you baby,
- 19:09Speaker 6: but keep the hair. But if he goes out and
- 19:12Speaker 6: the balls out and he's bald, and then then I'll
- 19:14Speaker 6: shut my mouth.
- 19:15Speaker 5: But maybe that's just me being jealous.
- 19:17Speaker 3: I think you're a little hurt. But we used to
- 19:19Speaker 3: like your hair back in the day. Yeah, for allow
- 19:20Speaker 3: Kok fans out there, remember bump with hair, good thing
- 19:23Speaker 3: twenty years ago. Damn it almost anyway. No, but Ken,
- 19:28Speaker 3: he's been crushing it. Career numbers, He's got nine hundred
- 19:31Speaker 3: and one, nine hundred and fifty five yards, seventeen touchdowns.
- 19:35Speaker 3: I just think he's a guy that's really going to
- 19:36Speaker 3: go off this year. And now you enter Ryan Grubb
- 19:39Speaker 3: or we know he did at Washington, right, we know
- 19:41Speaker 3: all the all the dudes playing the NFL, all the receivers.
- 19:44Speaker 3: But he has an offensive line background. He's going to
- 19:46Speaker 3: run the pill and he's made that very evident. They
- 19:48Speaker 3: asked Ken Metcalf about that in his press conference today
- 19:50Speaker 3: and he's like, no, our foundation is going to be
- 19:53Speaker 3: running the football, and it's going to start with number nine.
- 19:55Speaker 3: I think you sprinkle in Zach Starburney, he'll come out
- 19:57Speaker 3: there and hit you. And then Kenny McIntosh talked about
- 19:59Speaker 3: early he looked great this preseason.
- 20:01Speaker 6: You give him some spin. I think that running back
- 20:03Speaker 6: room can do some damage. Bump, Yeah, it looks good,
- 20:05Speaker 6: It looks good. Didn't see Ken Walker at all this preseason?
- 20:08Speaker 4: Did we a little bit?
- 20:09Speaker 5: A little bit?
- 20:09Speaker 6: Quick saw Zach sharp and they a lot of Kenny
- 20:11Speaker 6: McIntosh really happy for that kid. Just staying mentally engaged
- 20:15Speaker 6: because when you don't get no playing time, you're coming
- 20:17Speaker 6: from Georgia, win the national championships, you get to the
- 20:20Speaker 6: league and you don't touch the rock, it could mess
- 20:22Speaker 6: with you mentally.
- 20:22Speaker 5: So I'm glad he hung in there. But it's all
- 20:25Speaker 5: about knin Man.
- 20:26Speaker 6: Canin is gonna set the tone and I'm glad that
- 20:28Speaker 6: grub came out and said, look, we're gonna run the football.
- 20:30Speaker 6: Johnson the running back for you to rush for eleven
- 20:32Speaker 6: hundred yards. People forget that. You get Michael Pennigs and
- 20:36Speaker 6: like it makes sense. You see the ball flying everywhere,
- 20:38Speaker 6: you think, oh yeah they passed the football, but they
- 20:40Speaker 6: do run the rock and Grub's gonna set the tone there.
- 20:43Speaker 4: Man.
- 20:44Speaker 6: All right, let's let's talk about some of these receivers.
- 20:45Speaker 6: I think this is one of the best trios in
- 20:47Speaker 6: the game right now. We got DK, Tyler Lockett, and JSN.
- 20:50Speaker 6: They're going up against that bronkle secondary Pactice Sertain just
- 20:54Speaker 6: got paid highest paid corner in the game ever. Right now,
- 20:57Speaker 6: It's gonna be a nice little matchup. But DK and
- 21:00Speaker 6: Tyler Locke and one of the best duels in franchise history.
- 21:02Speaker 6: DK became the seventh player in franchise history to record
- 21:05Speaker 6: back to back thousand yard seasons. He also became the
- 21:08Speaker 6: third player in NFL history to reach fifty receptions and
- 21:11Speaker 6: nine hundred yards and five touchdowns in each of his
- 21:14Speaker 6: first five seasons. He hanging out with Randy Moss in
- 21:17Speaker 6: AJ Green. That's some great company there.
- 21:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I think so any signed me on the list
- 21:22Speaker 3: with those two. I don't even care if my name
- 21:23Speaker 3: is on the same piece of paper. We're not the
- 21:25Speaker 3: wrong reasons. I will take it. That's a list I
- 21:26Speaker 3: want to be on. But you just look at I mean, gosh,
- 21:29Speaker 3: and then Tyler second player in franchise history, ninety fourth
- 21:32Speaker 3: player in NFL history for with six hundred receptions.
- 21:35Speaker 4: That's a lot. Man moved into second.
- 21:37Speaker 3: Place in franchise history and receptions six hundred and twelve
- 21:40Speaker 3: yards seven nine hundred and ninety four and ranks second
- 21:43Speaker 3: in touchdowns. The Ball of Famer of the Go Steve
- 21:46Speaker 3: Largen is first in every single category.
- 21:48Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't even know.
- 21:49Speaker 3: If DJ can catch him, because what Largent was doing
- 21:52Speaker 3: is he's otherworldly. So being second to that man is
- 21:55Speaker 3: totally fine. But and he's just six yards away from
- 21:59Speaker 3: being a second player in franch history in one hundred
- 22:00Speaker 3: and thirteenth player in NFL history with eight thousand receiving yards.
- 22:04Speaker 3: Bump Lockett has had a quiet preseason mainly because they
- 22:07Speaker 3: want to keep this guy healthy.
- 22:08Speaker 4: We know what he can do. He doesn't need to
- 22:09Speaker 4: prove anything in this league coming into year ten.
- 22:12Speaker 3: We know what he can do, So Bump, I'm just
- 22:13Speaker 3: really excited to see what these guys can do. And
- 22:15Speaker 3: then you add in JSN solid rookie campaign. Remember he
- 22:18Speaker 3: started the year with a broke kind of a mess
- 22:20Speaker 3: up risk, but he found his way towards the end
- 22:22Speaker 3: of the season, had some game winning touchdowns, finished the
- 22:25Speaker 3: year you know, sixty three receptions, second most receptions in
- 22:28Speaker 3: for a rookie and franchise history bump. So, as you mentioned,
- 22:31Speaker 3: these three receivers can't be the best in the NFL.
- 22:34Speaker 3: You add Ryan Grubb, Gino Smith, I'm excited about what
- 22:36Speaker 3: they can do.
- 22:37Speaker 6: Metcalf has sixty six for eleven hundred, Lockett at seventy
- 22:40Speaker 6: nine for eight to ninety four. Then you sprinkle in
- 22:43Speaker 6: the rookie last year JSN sixty three for six twenty eight.
- 22:46Speaker 6: There's gonna be an upticking all those numbers. I believe,
- 22:49Speaker 6: And I'm not just saying that because I support the Hawks.
- 22:51Speaker 6: I'm looking at preseason, what happened in practice, the way
- 22:54Speaker 6: Grub is calling things, and I think the sky's a
- 22:56Speaker 6: limit for this group.
- 22:57Speaker 5: Man, they could be.
- 22:59Speaker 6: Now, there's only a couple of the trios that I
- 23:01Speaker 6: think about that can rock with these guys. You got
- 23:02Speaker 6: one in Houston that's pretty good. Yeah, you got one
- 23:04Speaker 6: in Philly that's pretty good. And then the Dolphins have
- 23:07Speaker 6: a trio that's pretty good. But Beckham's banged up. So
- 23:09Speaker 6: we'll see. These three can be right out there with them,
- 23:12Speaker 6: and if Gino spins it, the ole line protects, ken
- 23:15Speaker 6: Walker runs all comes together boom division.
- 23:19Speaker 4: I don't get it. I hope so. And they're going
- 23:20Speaker 4: against this never defense bump. We talked about it.
- 23:22Speaker 3: They struggled last year, man, and it was headlined by
- 23:25Speaker 3: that seventy to twenty beat down in Miami. I almost
- 23:27Speaker 3: forgot about that. Yeah, and I think that really for
- 23:30Speaker 3: anyone who knows anything about math. I'm not a good
- 23:32Speaker 3: math guy, but when you throw one of those in,
- 23:34Speaker 3: it's like your GPA.
- 23:35Speaker 4: I think I've talked about this on this show.
- 23:37Speaker 3: I had one really bad semester sophomore of college, huh,
- 23:40Speaker 3: and mycume GPA was messed up right, never got back.
- 23:43Speaker 3: I never got it fixed, even though I was okay.
- 23:45Speaker 3: I was a three point zero for most of it,
- 23:46Speaker 3: but that one sophomore year messed up. That really hurt
- 23:50Speaker 3: the Denver stats last year, giving up a seventy burger
- 23:52Speaker 3: against Miami.
- 23:53Speaker 4: But they just struggled.
- 23:54Speaker 3: They're twenty second overall against the past, and now they're
- 23:57Speaker 3: having to replace Justin Simmons, all safety, who did a
- 24:01Speaker 3: lot of good things for them.
- 24:02Speaker 4: He's now in Atlanta.
- 24:03Speaker 3: But they just got the man you just talked about
- 24:05Speaker 3: who got paid Patrick Sutan, the second father of Is
- 24:08Speaker 3: played in the league as well in twenty twenty two.
- 24:12Speaker 3: Not that it's apples and Oranges Termber comparison, but DK
- 24:15Speaker 3: only had thirty six yards in that game, so he's
- 24:16Speaker 3: a guy that can obviously play and be physical and
- 24:19Speaker 3: do some good things. They're gonna line up essentially a
- 24:21Speaker 3: rookie at the other corner, which I'm interested at.
- 24:23Speaker 4: Riley Moss. He the kid out of Iowa.
- 24:26Speaker 3: He mainly played special teams last year, but everything I'm
- 24:29Speaker 3: hearing coming out of Denver is that he's probably gonna
- 24:30Speaker 3: start at corner.
- 24:31Speaker 4: Yep, So that's a matchup.
- 24:33Speaker 3: I want to see the Seahawks exploit test this man,
- 24:35Speaker 3: because not that DK or anyone's afraid of certain and
- 24:38Speaker 3: they're gonna throw the ball who's open. But I feel
- 24:41Speaker 3: like we can get after Moss, who's really under the
- 24:43Speaker 3: bright lights for the first time at this level and
- 24:45Speaker 3: under fire.
- 24:46Speaker 4: So I'm excited about what it can be. Bump.
- 24:49Speaker 3: But man, let's tell everybody you've been waiting for, how
- 24:52Speaker 3: are the Seahawks gonna win this game?
- 24:53Speaker 4: Pat the victory.
- 24:56Speaker 2: After forty five waits for the staff, Michael Dickson puts
- 24:59Speaker 2: it there that kick is away.
- 25:01Speaker 4: If that kick.
- 25:02Speaker 3: Is gun, good, say off when bitch.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Gun, it's a pass, it's a victory On Hawke Talk.
- 25:08Speaker 6: Here's how the Seahawks are gonna get this thing done.
- 25:11Speaker 6: It all starts with Mike McDonald. He's been preaching it
- 25:14Speaker 6: from the top of Mount Rain near. I want to
- 25:17Speaker 6: play a style of football that people just don't want
- 25:19Speaker 6: to play against.
- 25:19Speaker 5: And what does that look like.
- 25:20Speaker 6: Is efficient a line of sign execut They're gonna pop
- 25:23Speaker 6: you in the mouth. They're gonna take advantage of every opportunity.
- 25:26Speaker 6: I can't wait to see how fast these guys fly around,
- 25:28Speaker 6: because we got to see the starters for a little bit.
- 25:30Speaker 6: If there's anyone that we saw on the defense side
- 25:33Speaker 6: of the ball, we saw the starters more than the
- 25:34Speaker 6: offense side of the ball. And those guys were flying
- 25:36Speaker 6: around with a sprinkle of twos and threes in there.
- 25:38Speaker 6: So I can't wait to see what it looks like
- 25:40Speaker 6: when they're all out there at the same time. And
- 25:42Speaker 6: then defensively, the Seahawks need to make the young QB
- 25:45Speaker 6: look like a young quarterback, make him uncomfortable.
- 25:48Speaker 5: You gotta blitz him, you gotta stun him. Do all
- 25:50Speaker 5: of that stuff.
- 25:50Speaker 6: Make him use those sixty one games right he had
- 25:53Speaker 6: in college and put him to the test.
- 25:56Speaker 4: Yeah, man, and stop the run. Right.
- 25:58Speaker 3: The Broncos are very young, right back. They let go
- 26:01Speaker 3: of some veteran guys, and this is where the Seahawks
- 26:03Speaker 3: really got hurt last year. They got beat up in
- 26:05Speaker 3: the run game all season long. And I think this
- 26:07Speaker 3: is one of the biggest improvements that this defense will
- 26:09Speaker 3: look to make in twenty twenty four, especially with Mike
- 26:11Speaker 3: McDonald coming in. I feel like there's a big emthaths
- 26:14Speaker 3: on that they're gonna stop the run. That's what they
- 26:15Speaker 3: need to do on Sunday. There should be no big
- 26:18Speaker 3: numbers in the run game for the Broncos. And then
- 26:21Speaker 3: I said, at the beginning of the podcast, Unleash Mike
- 26:23Speaker 3: McDonald his genius.
- 26:24Speaker 4: Right, we've heard about it.
- 26:26Speaker 3: We're finally gonna see it preseasons vanilla, right, Mike McDonald's
- 26:30Speaker 3: it was French vanilla. Though it was good vanilla. Oh,
- 26:32Speaker 3: I mean not basic vanilla. I mean, don't get me wrong,
- 26:34Speaker 3: I like vanilla. You feel me French. But now we're
- 26:37Speaker 3: gonna get We're gonna max some sprinkles, maybe some some cookie.
- 26:40Speaker 3: Though you know what I mean, some mint chocolate chip.
- 26:42Speaker 3: I don't know all the things like you, but no,
- 26:44Speaker 3: it's gonna be I'm excited to see what kind of pressure,
- 26:46Speaker 3: what kind of stunts, what kind of games, what kind
- 26:48Speaker 3: of different coverages are gonna throw out these guys, especially
- 26:50Speaker 3: the young quarterback bump.
- 26:52Speaker 4: So I'm excited to see.
- 26:53Speaker 3: We're not gonna get the whole package, but just what
- 26:56Speaker 3: different looks that Mike McDonald could come up with and
- 26:58Speaker 3: see what happens on Sunday.
