- 0:00Speaker 1: To me, all of my clients are high-profile clientele. Just
- 0:03Speaker 1: giving this service that you would imagine you would give
- 0:07Speaker 1: the President of the United States. I give that to
- 0:09Speaker 1: Megan Graham because you're my president in ways.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Of course.
- 0:15Speaker 3: President of Summer's Life.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Hi, everyone. Welcome back to another episode of Clyde Confidential. Today,
- 0:27Speaker 2: I have.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Two fabulous trainers from Dog Pound who I work out
- 0:32Speaker 3: with very often.
- 0:34Speaker 2: My kings, Sebastian Richard and Brian Hammer.
- 0:38Speaker 4: What's happening, everybody?
- 0:39Speaker 2: Thank you guys for coming.
- 0:40Speaker 4: Thank you for having us.
- 0:41Speaker 2: I'm really excited about a couple of things.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Obviously to talk about the gym and how lovely the
- 0:47Speaker 3: gym is and to just hopefully encourage some people to join.
- 0:51Speaker 3: But I think a lot of people generally are just
- 0:53Speaker 3: really curious about how you make a career as a
- 0:56Speaker 3: trainer when there's so many other people and so many
- 0:59Speaker 3: fitness influencers these days trying to break in and do
- 1:03Speaker 3: what you're doing.
- 1:04Speaker 2: You work at the best gym in New York, I think.
- 1:08Speaker 2: So how did you get there? Sebastian, do you want
- 1:10Speaker 2: to start with you?
- 1:11Speaker 5: Me? No, you start first. His story is crazier than mine, honestly.
- 1:14Speaker 5: He gets all praised.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Yeah, sure, of course. Take it away.
- 1:18Speaker 6: Well, first thing, I feel like what separates Dog Pound
- 1:21Speaker 6: from other gyms, not just in New York, but in
- 1:24Speaker 6: the entire world, is the people. You know, the people
- 1:27Speaker 6: at Dog Pound. And listen, I've been with Dog Pound
- 1:30Speaker 6: for almost over a decade now.
- 1:31Speaker 7: 10 years, bro.
- 1:32Speaker 5: 10, 11 years, yeah.
- 1:33Speaker 4: And what I've seen is.
- 1:36Speaker 6: What I like about every single person I've worked with
- 1:39Speaker 6: is that everyone's personality is great, but different.
- 1:42Speaker 5: Everyone's different. It's always fun, good vibes. Every trainer is different,
- 1:46Speaker 5: special in their own way. But it's always a good time.
- 1:49Speaker 5: It's always a good time, for sure.
- 1:50Speaker 4: The energy is just so infectious.
- 1:52Speaker 6: Everyone has that positive attitude that I really think some
- 1:57Speaker 6: other gyms lack.
- 1:58Speaker 5: Even before we even started, too, it was always like that.
- 2:00Speaker 5: It was always before us, the trainers before, same thing.
- 2:03Speaker 5: always great vibes. Someone had a story about the other
- 2:06Speaker 5: trainer and we're just continuing, you know?
- 2:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:08Speaker 3: I feel like that's what actually drew me to the
- 2:10Speaker 3: gym because I, of course I have my, my core
- 2:15Speaker 3: folks that I work out with, but if either of
- 2:17Speaker 3: you are sick, I don't mind working out with, I
- 2:21Speaker 3: don't care who I work out with because everyone is excellent.
- 2:23Speaker 3: And I think that the gym does a really good
- 2:25Speaker 3: job at a selecting members and curating who's in the gym.
- 2:30Speaker 2: But also the same goes for the staff.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Every single staff member at that gym is so excellent
- 2:37Speaker 3: and lovely and can be in a room with a
- 2:40Speaker 3: famous actor and not care and not be weird while
- 2:42Speaker 3: they're working out because when a lot of my clients
- 2:45Speaker 3: go to Dog Pound, they want to feel like they're
- 2:47Speaker 3: at home in their own gym and having Like, you know,
- 2:50Speaker 3: semi-private session and not have to worry about someone coming
- 2:52Speaker 3: up to them or their trainer being weird.
- 2:55Speaker 5: For an autograph.
- 2:56Speaker 2: For an autograph, correct. And you guys are just so
- 2:59Speaker 2: on lock in that department. So give it to you.
- 3:01Speaker 2: But Brian, sorry.
- 3:02Speaker 4: No, no worries at all. I couldn't agree with you more.
- 3:05Speaker 4: You know, it's like.
- 3:06Speaker 6: And like, I've seen, I've trained, I've trained models.
- 3:09Speaker 4: I've trained athletes.
- 3:10Speaker 5: It's always models with you, bro. He only trains models,
- 3:12Speaker 5: this guy. Only trains models. Seriously. Honestly.
- 3:15Speaker 4: It's like.
- 3:15Speaker 5: See his schedule.
- 3:16Speaker 4: What can I say? God has gifted me with some
- 3:18Speaker 4: great people.
- 3:20Speaker 6: But like, above all else, I like, I just like,
- 3:24Speaker 6: throughout my entire life, not just in training, but in general,
- 3:27Speaker 6: I've just always loved variety. You know, so different kinds
- 3:31Speaker 6: of personalities, different kinds of energy.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Like, I just love variety.
- 3:36Speaker 6: A good variety of people because variety is what makes
- 3:39Speaker 6: this place great. You know, everyone has a different kind
- 3:42Speaker 6: of goals, different kinds of aspirations they're trying to hit.
- 3:46Speaker 6: And that's one of my favorite things about being a
- 3:49Speaker 6: trainer is helping people in different ways, but in great
- 3:52Speaker 6: ways as well. Just being the best version of myself
- 3:55Speaker 6: and helping my clients be the best version of themselves
- 3:59Speaker 6: as well.
- 4:00Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, like Herman said, I think it's cool
- 4:01Speaker 5: because everyone in the gym has a story. Like, it
- 4:03Speaker 5: doesn't matter what you do. You're always, you always see
- 4:05Speaker 5: someone at the gym and it's cool to like learn
- 4:07Speaker 5: about someone's story, what they do, how their life is.
- 4:10Speaker 5: But they, you know, even though they might have a
- 4:11Speaker 5: busy life or an easy one, quote unquote, they still
- 4:14Speaker 5: work out, which is fun, you know, and then better themselves,
- 4:16Speaker 5: which is cool. And we're here just along the way
- 4:18Speaker 5: to help them out, you know.
- 4:19Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 4:20Speaker 5: Be the motivator. Just be the guidance or anything they want.
- 4:23Speaker 5: It's like therapy. We're like therapists too.
- 4:24Speaker 2: It is like therapy.
- 4:25Speaker 5: We're therapists as well. It's crazy.
- 4:26Speaker 3: I feel like I come in sometimes, I tell you
- 4:28Speaker 3: guys about my problems and then I learn about like.
- 4:30Speaker 2: It gets intimate.
- 4:31Speaker 5: Where's Summer? Where's Summer? She should be here right now.
- 4:33Speaker 5: Where's Summer, honestly?
- 4:34Speaker 2: Everyone always asks that when they come over, but.
- 4:37Speaker 3: I'm sure the audience has now gathered that Summer is
- 4:40Speaker 3: my golden retriever. Does come to the gym a lot
- 4:43Speaker 3: because dogs are allowed. She puts the dog in dog pound.
- 4:46Speaker 5: She's awesome.
- 4:47Speaker 3: But she cannot be in the apartment during a podcast
- 4:49Speaker 3: because this mic would go bye-bye.
- 4:51Speaker 4: It would fly south.
- 4:53Speaker 8: It would fly south.
- 4:54Speaker 3: But that's also another amazing part of the gym is
- 4:57Speaker 3: that you can bring your pets.
- 5:00Speaker 2: I'm so busy during the day.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Sometimes I forget to book a sitter or– Daycare is expensive,
- 5:05Speaker 3: and to be able to go to a workout and
- 5:07Speaker 3: bring your dog, it's therapeutic and it's really convenient.
- 5:12Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 5:13Speaker 3: So, Sebastian, you've been at Dog Pound for a couple
- 5:15Speaker 3: years now, but I'm really curious about your origin. Similar
- 5:19Speaker 3: to Brian, was there a moment when you were younger
- 5:21Speaker 3: that you realized you wanted to grow up and become
- 5:24Speaker 3: a trainer? What were you doing before you were at
- 5:26Speaker 3: Dog Pound, and how did this sort of all come
- 5:28Speaker 3: into fruition?
- 5:29Speaker 5: So, I mean, I started working out because I had
- 5:31Speaker 5: no confidence when I was in high school. I was
- 5:34Speaker 5: a shy kid, insecure, timid. I wanted to have a girlfriend.
- 5:37Speaker 5: I was just afraid to talk to girls back then.
- 5:39Speaker 5: So I thought, you know, girls like muscles. Let me
- 5:41Speaker 5: just start working out.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Look how times have changed.
- 5:43Speaker 5: Times have changed. Times have changed for sure. But it
- 5:46Speaker 5: has its pros and its cons for sure. It has
- 5:47Speaker 5: its pros and its cons. I'm telling you.
- 5:49Speaker 2: You'd rather peak later anyways.
- 5:50Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:50Speaker 9: Trust me.
- 5:51Speaker 5: That's true.
- 5:51Speaker 10: That's true.
- 5:51Speaker 2: I peaked later too.
- 5:52Speaker 5: You know what I mean?
- 5:53Speaker 4: It feels better too.
- 5:54Speaker 3: It does.
- 5:55Speaker 5: It does.
- 5:55Speaker 11: Hey, Hammer, you're right.
- 5:56Speaker 5: Hey, last Saturday was a good time. It was. No,
- 5:59Speaker 5: but for me, you know, I was, again, you know,
- 6:01Speaker 5: super shy kid. And I started working out after high school.
- 6:05Speaker 5: And it was cool, it was fun. I didn't know
- 6:07Speaker 5: what I was doing at first, but I used to
- 6:09Speaker 5: follow programs online. Whatever I could do, I just tried it.
- 6:13Speaker 5: I tried treadmill, I tried bench, everything. I did it all.
- 6:19Speaker 5: I started getting more confident and I think my life
- 6:23Speaker 5: changed from there. When I finished high school, my first
- 6:25Speaker 5: real job was Whole Foods Market as a cashier. I
- 6:28Speaker 5: love to talk about Whole Foods because people are like,
- 6:29Speaker 5: why do you like Whole Foods so much? But I
- 6:32Speaker 5: remember being there and everyone was like so miserable being there,
- 6:34Speaker 5: the cashiers. Not in a bad way, not everybody. And
- 6:36Speaker 5: I'm like, damn, I can't be upset all the time. Like,
- 6:39Speaker 5: you know, people saying like, oh, my price is wrong.
- 6:42Speaker 5: Run this downstairs, you know, just being a cashier. So
- 6:45Speaker 5: I'm like, how can I make this job more fun?
- 6:46Speaker 5: So I just started asking people questions that kind of
- 6:48Speaker 5: like brought me out of my comfort zone. I was
- 6:50Speaker 5: asking people like, you know, what are you having for dinner? Like,
- 6:52Speaker 5: what are you doing for the day? And that kind
- 6:54Speaker 5: of like made me feel more comfortable talking to people.
- 6:56Speaker 5: And with working out, I was feeling more comfortable with myself.
- 6:58Speaker 5: So those two kind of played a role. So I was,
- 7:02Speaker 5: you know, I had, I had, uh, clients, not sorry,
- 7:05Speaker 5: it's like clients, uh, customers from Whole Foods coming in, uh,
- 7:08Speaker 5: coming in, you know, for like giving me gifts. Cause
- 7:10Speaker 5: they just love talking to me, like just love having
- 7:12Speaker 5: conversations with me. So it was pretty fun. They used
- 7:15Speaker 5: to call me the mayor of Whole Foods. So, uh,
- 7:16Speaker 5: every time they see me, I believe that.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Every successful person I know started off their career in
- 7:22Speaker 3: some sort of service facing job, whether that was a restaurant,
- 7:27Speaker 3: a Whole Foods, a retail store, those sort of people
- 7:31Speaker 3: skills that you learn in those environments will take you
- 7:34Speaker 3: so far. And that is why you can work at
- 7:37Speaker 3: a gym like Dog Pound and be training the most
- 7:39Speaker 3: famous actress in the world and.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Know how to handle it. That is why.
- 7:44Speaker 3: It's because of Whole Foods. You're mayor of Whole Foods.
- 7:47Speaker 3: You're the mayor of Dog Pound now.
- 7:49Speaker 5: No, no, no, no. That's Amber.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Both of you guys.
- 7:52Speaker 5: Yes, sir.
- 7:54Speaker 3: And now you guys are buddies. I feel like you
- 7:56Speaker 3: guys are best friends. And that came out of the gym.
- 7:58Speaker 5: Yep, from Dog Pound. How did that even start? I
- 8:00Speaker 5: feel like it just happened naturally. I don't know. I
- 8:03Speaker 5: didn't know how it started. I don't know what it was.
- 8:05Speaker 2: How do you not become best friends with this guy?
- 8:06Speaker 5: We just hung out one day. I just said, hey, everyone,
- 8:08Speaker 5: let's hang out on a Saturday. We did, and they
- 8:11Speaker 5: just kicked it off there. And, of course, at the gym, too,
- 8:14Speaker 5: we say hello to everyone. Everyone's cool. I wish another trainer, Aaron,
- 8:18Speaker 5: should be here right now.
- 8:19Speaker 2: I know. We invited Aaron, but he had better things
- 8:22Speaker 2: to do.
- 8:22Speaker 5: Yeah, he's a busy guy. But, of course, every trainer
- 8:25Speaker 5: there at Dog Pond is amazing. So I'm thankful. I
- 8:29Speaker 5: wish everyone was here, but I'm glad that Hammer's here
- 8:31Speaker 5: right now.
- 8:32Speaker 3: I know. I wish we could fit more people on
- 8:33Speaker 3: this couch, but we will be doing a part two
- 8:36Speaker 3: with my LA trainers because that's another benefit. If you
- 8:40Speaker 3: float between New York and LA, the gym exists in
- 8:42Speaker 3: both cities, which is why I love being a member.
- 8:45Speaker 3: And when I'm here, I just go downtown. There's no, yeah, it's,
- 8:50Speaker 3: you guys are so flexible.
- 8:52Speaker 7: Sorry?
- 8:52Speaker 5: How far was the commute for you from like where
- 8:54Speaker 5: you were in LA to LA?
- 8:55Speaker 2: Five minutes. Oh my gosh.
- 8:56Speaker 3: I used to, from my old house, I could, I
- 8:57Speaker 3: could walk right to the gym with summer. And now
- 9:00Speaker 3: I live just a little bit more up the hill
- 9:02Speaker 3: and like it's five minutes.
- 9:03Speaker 5: So just run now.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Sometimes I do run.
- 9:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:08Speaker 2: It's very good.
- 9:08Speaker 3: But what I do now is I work at, I
- 9:10Speaker 3: just do, I rotate every trainer. And that's another system
- 9:13Speaker 3: that I love about Dog Pound is because all of
- 9:15Speaker 3: your trainers are so excellent that it actually doesn't really
- 9:18Speaker 3: matter to me who I'm working out with. I know
- 9:19Speaker 3: I'm getting the same level of, you know, work, I'm
- 9:24Speaker 3: getting the same level of service or the same out
- 9:27Speaker 3: of the workout that I would be with anyone else.
- 9:29Speaker 3: But I think that system is actually really important for
- 9:32Speaker 3: anyone who is looking to find a gym.
- 9:35Speaker 2: They, A, have you work out with everyone and B,
- 9:38Speaker 2: they're really, really flexible.
- 9:40Speaker 3: So if I'm working late or if I'm, want to
- 9:43Speaker 3: sleep in one morning and need to push to the afternoon,
- 9:46Speaker 3: it's never a problem.
- 9:47Speaker 2: And there's always someone available.
- 9:48Speaker 5: Absolutely.
- 9:49Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 9:50Speaker 5: That's actually one of our pillars too. Was it, was
- 9:52Speaker 5: it a, It wasn't sharing, bro. I'm sorry. What was it, bro?
- 9:54Speaker 5: It was about how we all rotate and share plans.
- 9:56Speaker 12: Right, right.
- 9:57Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 9:57Speaker 6: I'd like to add to that, if that's okay.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Yeah, of course.
- 10:00Speaker 6: I think rotating between different trainers is so, so, so important.
- 10:04Speaker 4: And I think... And that's because, really, like.
- 10:07Speaker 6: As I said before, everyone's training style and personality is
- 10:11Speaker 6: so different.
- 10:12Speaker 4: And, however... everyone is more than.
- 10:15Speaker 6: Capable of training any sort of client, whether their goal
- 10:18Speaker 6: is the tone, whether their goal is the bulk, whether
- 10:20Speaker 6: their goal is to lift 110 pounds for five to
- 10:24Speaker 6: seven to five to eight reps or just, or, or,
- 10:29Speaker 6: or just lift 25 pounds for 15 reps.
- 10:32Speaker 5: We rotate, we rotate, but, um, we, we also do
- 10:35Speaker 5: share notes and on, on clients bios. So it's not
- 10:38Speaker 5: like When we train with someone, you're building rapport with
- 10:41Speaker 5: all the trainers, but we all have the notes of
- 10:43Speaker 5: what you did stat-wise. So we definitely know how to
- 10:47Speaker 5: progress every time with everyone.
- 10:48Speaker 6: Right, because let's say a guy trains with Sebastian 100
- 10:50Speaker 6: times and I'm training this person for the first time ever. It's, um,
- 10:54Speaker 6: I'm not like, I'll know exactly what he's been doing
- 10:57Speaker 6: with Sebastian and I will know exactly what to do
- 11:00Speaker 6: to help that client in that session on that given day.
- 11:03Speaker 5: It keeps it fun though. It keeps it fun too.
- 11:05Speaker 5: You know, why not?
- 11:05Speaker 4: Keeps it fun.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Keeps it spicy.
- 11:07Speaker 5: Yeah, it does. You know what I mean? That's one
- 11:09Speaker 5: of your lines.
- 11:10Speaker 4: Keeps it spicy.
- 11:11Speaker 5: Oh yeah.
- 11:12Speaker 6: But, um, I guess the point I'm trying to make
- 11:14Speaker 6: is like rotations are different because I feel like everyone
- 11:17Speaker 6: is more than capable of helping a client's get to
- 11:20Speaker 6: their goals and, uh, really just, and I don't, and
- 11:23Speaker 6: more and above all else, just become the best version
- 11:25Speaker 6: of themselves and be more and more confident each and
- 11:28Speaker 6: every time they step in, they step foot in the gym.
- 11:32Speaker 3: I mean, I can say from experience, since I came
- 11:34Speaker 3: into dog pound and since I've, I'm now two years,
- 11:38Speaker 3: two and a little bit over two and a half years.
- 11:41Speaker 3: that's really helped my confidence. I am the strongest I've
- 11:44Speaker 3: ever been in my life. Sometimes I look down, I'm like,
- 11:47Speaker 3: I can see that muscle.
- 11:48Speaker 2: That feels nice.
- 11:49Speaker 3: And a few years ago, I didn't want to be
- 11:53Speaker 3: super muscular, but.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Now I'm like, let's go.
- 11:54Speaker 5: Why not?
- 11:56Speaker 4: That's you too.
- 11:58Speaker 5: That's you being consistent as well. Because you don't have
- 12:00Speaker 5: to show up. Hopefully it's just us being cool people.
- 12:03Speaker 5: You enjoy the vibe.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Yes, I love the vibe. That's why I come in.
- 12:06Speaker 3: No, but it's... Being so busy, having my Monday, Wednesday,
- 12:11Speaker 3: Friday dog pound lined up, that helps me stay regimented
- 12:16Speaker 3: and it actually helps me be better at my job
- 12:18Speaker 3: because if I knock out my workout, if I go
- 12:20Speaker 3: into the day and I feel really good and I
- 12:22Speaker 3: feel like I'm dedicating an hour to myself off of
- 12:25Speaker 3: my phone with an amazing trainer and then.
- 12:29Speaker 2: I can go conquer the rest of my day. So
- 12:31Speaker 2: having a schedule is.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Really important and having dog pound exist in the two
- 12:35Speaker 3: cities I live between is amazing. Yeah.
- 12:38Speaker 5: And we're here for you anytime.
- 12:39Speaker 2: No, you guys are the best.
- 12:40Speaker 4: We always got your back, Megs. Your family.
- 12:42Speaker 12: I know.
- 12:43Speaker 3: Seriously, I'm so passionate about the gym and the community.
- 12:47Speaker 3: And I just think it is such a, it's like
- 12:50Speaker 3: a sanctuary, honestly.
- 12:52Speaker 2: What has been the most rewarding thing for you guys
- 12:54Speaker 2: about being a trainer at Dog Pound? And what's the
- 12:57Speaker 2: best part of your job?
- 12:58Speaker 6: So I would say the most rewarding part for me
- 13:00Speaker 6: is just having that opportunity to build a rapport with
- 13:04Speaker 6: any client and, um, you know, like every client has,
- 13:09Speaker 6: has so much going on in their everyday life, whether it's,
- 13:14Speaker 6: you know, work or events or traveling a hundred times
- 13:19Speaker 6: a month, you know, it's like people are always going
- 13:22Speaker 6: through something. And you know, that, that one hour, that
- 13:25Speaker 6: 60 minute timeframe that's for them and only them, that
- 13:29Speaker 6: means everything to me, making sure that not only I'm
- 13:31Speaker 6: given the best service, but I'm given my full immediate
- 13:35Speaker 6: undivided attention in every session, making sure that not only
- 13:39Speaker 6: am I there for your goals, I'm there to hear
- 13:41Speaker 6: you out. I'm here to give you advice. I'm here
- 13:43Speaker 6: to basically, I don't mean to sound corny with this,
- 13:46Speaker 6: but I'm here to be your friend, you know, and
- 13:49Speaker 6: I'm here to have your back any way I possibly can.
- 13:52Speaker 6: And I feel like, and that's really, that's really the opportunity.
- 13:56Speaker 6: And that's like a blessing for me every day. I
- 13:58Speaker 6: come into Dog Pound is just having that chance to
- 14:00Speaker 6: build a rapport and be able to relate, build relationships
- 14:03Speaker 6: with all these amazing people.
- 14:05Speaker 4: And I definitely don't take it for granted.
- 14:07Speaker 3: I also think you do a really good job at
- 14:09Speaker 3: bringing levity into workouts and bringing some fun, both of you,
- 14:13Speaker 3: because sometimes, I mean, I always come into the gym
- 14:16Speaker 3: tired because I don't sleep, but when I'm exhausted and
- 14:20Speaker 3: when I'm like lifting my weights and then I just hear,
- 14:23Speaker 3: you got this MG or like, or like Sebastian will
- 14:26Speaker 3: make a joke and be like, oh, are you ready
- 14:28Speaker 3: for the actual workout?
- 14:29Speaker 2: This is just a warmup.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Like, you know, you, you guys both know me so
- 14:32Speaker 3: well and you know how to wake me up and just.
- 14:35Speaker 5: It's, It'd be 45 minutes.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Workout is fun. It's fun.
- 14:40Speaker 3: So even if you're having a bad day or just
- 14:43Speaker 3: the gym does, that hour is so important.
- 14:47Speaker 2: It really sets a tone for the rest of the day.
- 14:48Speaker 5: I call it a party.
- 14:49Speaker 1: It is a party.
- 14:50Speaker 5: It's going to be a celebration. It's going to be
- 14:51Speaker 5: a good party, honestly. So you're going to enjoy the
- 14:53Speaker 5: hour for sure.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Yes.
- 14:55Speaker 2: So Sebastian, what is it for you? What keeps you
- 14:57Speaker 2: going and what is your favorite part of the job?
- 15:00Speaker 5: Hammer kind of, kind of similar to Hammer, just building
- 15:03Speaker 5: rapport with clients, learning their story. And knowing that once
- 15:08Speaker 5: you work out, you're going to feel so much better, honestly.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:13Speaker 12: I love it.
- 15:13Speaker 2: I mean, it's true.
- 15:14Speaker 3: I think when you're feeling good about yourself and when
- 15:17Speaker 3: you're feeling strong, you're feeling confident, you're feeling you're.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Off of your devices, it really, it's the best.
- 15:26Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 15:26Speaker 2: It's the best thing in the world. So guys, I
- 15:29Speaker 2: always ask this.
- 15:30Speaker 3: What advice would you give someone who is looking to
- 15:34Speaker 3: become a trainer at DogCon one day?
- 15:36Speaker 6: I would say never give up on getting to where
- 15:41Speaker 6: you want to be.
- 15:42Speaker 4: Dog pound.
- 15:45Speaker 6: People will always have that mindset that people might think
- 15:50Speaker 6: something's out of reach.
- 15:51Speaker 4: I don't believe in that.
- 15:53Speaker 6: I don't believe anything is out of reach as long
- 15:56Speaker 6: as you're willing to believe that you can do it.
- 16:01Speaker 6: It's really a few words that you have to say
- 16:02Speaker 6: to yourself every day. Simply put, I can do it.
- 16:05Speaker 6: You know, if you want to work at Dog Pound,
- 16:07Speaker 6: if you want to be a trainer at Dog Pound,
- 16:09Speaker 6: you can do it. It might take a long time.
- 16:12Speaker 6: It might take you months. Hell, I've seen people get
- 16:16Speaker 6: a job at Dog Pound. It took them close to
- 16:18Speaker 6: a year to get a foot in the door. But
- 16:20Speaker 6: it can happen.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Slide into this guy's DMs.
- 16:22Speaker 4: Yeah, slide into the guy's DMs. And simply just catching
- 16:26Speaker 4: the attention of somebody.
- 16:27Speaker 6: All it takes is one email, one video, and just
- 16:31Speaker 6: months and months of preparation to get your foot in
- 16:35Speaker 6: the door.
- 16:35Speaker 5: Yeah, that's true. Or just, you know, shoot your shot.
- 16:38Speaker 5: Just shoot your shot. And if you're willing to... If
- 16:41Speaker 5: you want to be a dog pound, just send anyone
- 16:43Speaker 5: a message there. And if you're about it, we will see.
- 16:46Speaker 5: If not, then you won't make the cut. But it's okay.
- 16:49Speaker 5: It's okay. At least you tried. As long as you tried,
- 16:51Speaker 5: that's all that matters. As long as you tried.
- 16:53Speaker 2: And there's another gym for you.
- 16:54Speaker 10: Yes, of course.
- 16:55Speaker 2: I think there's so many.
- 16:59Speaker 2: I mean, it's like every industry.
- 17:00Speaker 3: There's always going to be a surplus of the same
- 17:02Speaker 3: person wanting to do a certain job.
- 17:04Speaker 2: But, like, everyone's going to land where they land.
- 17:06Speaker 8: But I think.
- 17:07Speaker 5: I mean, you can't beat Dog Pound, though.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Yeah, no, you can't beat Dog Pound. Dog Pound is
- 17:12Speaker 2: the best.
- 17:12Speaker 3: And I actually feel like it is the best.
- 17:15Speaker 8: I will say that.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Not because I'm biased as a member, but because I've
- 17:20Speaker 3: joined a lot of gyms and I've truly had the
- 17:22Speaker 3: best experience there.
- 17:24Speaker 2: But I just think that the way you guys treat....
- 17:28Speaker 3: The community and the sessions with such care, it's so different.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Like I walk into that.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Gym and I know everyone and they know me and
- 17:37Speaker 3: it's a first name basis and it's, I even have
- 17:39Speaker 3: gotten to know some of the other members and it's just,
- 17:43Speaker 3: it's like constant networking and I really do feel like
- 17:46Speaker 3: safe and like protected there in a way like, okay,
- 17:51Speaker 3: I'm having a bad day. I need to go like
- 17:52Speaker 3: blow off some steam and like this.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Is the place for it.
- 17:54Speaker 5: Absolutely.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Thank you guys for coming on. Thank you for having us.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Grateful that you did this and it's going to be
- 18:01Speaker 3: cool because after you guys, when I get back to LA,
- 18:03Speaker 3: I'm going to have all the LA trainers.
- 18:05Speaker 2: So I think you guys know some of them. Yeah.
- 18:08Speaker 4: Hi Morgan.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Morgan's my queen. Um, well you guys are the best.
- 18:13Speaker 3: And if anyone is looking for a new gym in
- 18:15Speaker 3: New York or LA, well, these are the New York guys.
- 18:17Speaker 3: So if you need some fantastic trainers who can help
- 18:20Speaker 3: boost your confidence and your mood and, uh, change your body,
- 18:24Speaker 3: here we go.
- 18:25Speaker 2: We're here.
- 18:25Speaker 5: We're here. We're here. My boys.
- 18:28Speaker 4: Thank you guys.
- 18:29Speaker 6: You're the best.
- 18:29Speaker 5: Thank you. We'll see you later.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Hi, everyone.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Welcome back to part two of my Dog Pound episode.
- 18:40Speaker 3: The last time I did this, I was in New
- 18:41Speaker 3: York City with two of my.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Trainers, and now I'm in the much bigger gym.
- 18:47Speaker 3: So we decided to film here with my LA trainers,
- 18:50Speaker 3: who I'm very excited to introduce you to. So we'll
- 18:53Speaker 3: start with my girl Morgan right next to me.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Hey, Morgan. Hey, how's it going? You got this okay?
- 18:59Speaker 12: I think so. We just finished our session, so I
- 19:02Speaker 12: know how you're going, but yeah.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Still waking up. It's 1218 on a Monday.
- 19:08Speaker 12: Yeah, that's true.
- 19:09Speaker 2: That's all it takes. So how long have you been
- 19:12Speaker 2: at the gym?
- 19:13Speaker 12: I've been here for two and a half going on
- 19:16Speaker 12: three years.
- 19:18Speaker 2: And how'd you get started? What's your origin story? I
- 19:20Speaker 2: don't think I know it.
- 19:21Speaker 12: Yeah, kind of strange. I actually, I landed in New York.
- 19:23Speaker 11: What?
- 19:24Speaker 12: I landed in LA. I broke up with my ex
- 19:27Speaker 12: and I was in nursing school down here.
- 19:29Speaker 3: You know, I started off in nursing school too.
- 19:33Speaker 2: I hate blood.
- 19:33Speaker 11: Oh.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Lasted two seconds.
- 19:36Speaker 12: I think I, for me, it was everyone just was
- 19:39Speaker 12: so negative all the time. And I've been in gyms
- 19:43Speaker 12: and a trainer since I was 18.
- 19:44Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 19:45Speaker 12: And so I've always fallen back to that. But in
- 19:48Speaker 12: my small little hometown, it's not a career. It's just kind.
- 19:50Speaker 3: Of a hobby.
- 19:52Speaker 12: And so I always thought of it that way. And
- 19:55Speaker 12: then I was working at a different gym when I
- 19:57Speaker 12: first came to LA and it was like Influencer Central
- 20:02Speaker 12: and a lot of people that were making a lot
- 20:04Speaker 12: of money training. And so I think that that's kind
- 20:06Speaker 12: of what sparked it. but I actually saw Dog Pound
- 20:09Speaker 12: on Instagram and I DMed the page and I was like, hey,
- 20:14Speaker 12: I'd love to apply. And they responded like a day later.
- 20:17Speaker 12: And then I was in an interview the next week.
- 20:19Speaker 12: The rest is history. Yeah, it was meant to be.
- 20:22Speaker 12: What made it.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Really appealing to you?
- 20:24Speaker 12: I think I was really looking for a place where
- 20:27Speaker 12: I felt that people cared. And I remember my first week,
- 20:32Speaker 12: there was an incident and it was handled immediately. And
- 20:36Speaker 12: the comparison of if that would have happened at any
- 20:39Speaker 12: other gym, it would have just been slid under the rug.
- 20:42Speaker 12: But the management here truly actually cared about my well-being.
- 20:45Speaker 12: And so it was made me stay.
- 20:48Speaker 11: OK.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Well, I'm happy you're here. Thank you. I work out
- 20:51Speaker 2: with Morgan a lot.
- 20:52Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 20:53Speaker 2: OK, Tyjohn, up next.
- 20:55Speaker 5: What's up?
- 20:56Speaker 2: What's up?
- 20:57Speaker 11: How are you?
- 20:57Speaker 2: I'm good.
- 20:58Speaker 5: Life is good. I mean, I'm Tyjohn.
- 21:00Speaker 13: I've been in LA for, let's see, about 10 years now.
- 21:03Speaker 13: I was born here, grew up in St. Louis, Missouri.
- 21:06Speaker 13: And so, you know, I've been in fitness for a
- 21:08Speaker 13: long time, mainly in the management side of it. And
- 21:11Speaker 13: so Dog Pound was always one of those names that
- 21:14Speaker 13: was kind of always around and kind of stood out.
- 21:17Speaker 13: And so for me, when I decided to make a
- 21:19Speaker 13: career change and go more into just training and not,
- 21:21Speaker 13: you know, not being on the management side anymore, this
- 21:23Speaker 13: was the obvious choice. I mean, obviously the space is beautiful,
- 21:26Speaker 13: but what attracted me to Dog Pound was, I would
- 21:30Speaker 13: say the culture here. I've been here for a little
- 21:32Speaker 13: over a year now, and we've got some of the
- 21:34Speaker 13: best coaches I've been a part of and worked with.
- 21:37Speaker 13: It's a very high-performing environment, and I'm used to being
- 21:41Speaker 13: in high-performing environments. Also, we have a different type of
- 21:45Speaker 13: clientele that has that high-performing lifestyle that has busy schedules.
- 21:49Speaker 13: For me, I've really enjoyed working with a team that
- 21:54Speaker 13: has more of a collaborative effort in regards to the
- 21:56Speaker 13: programs that we create for our clients. Everything is more tailored.
- 22:00Speaker 13: you know, it's, it's in great environment to not just
- 22:02Speaker 13: train in, but to work out in great for content.
- 22:05Speaker 13: Obviously we get to, you know, be a part of
- 22:07Speaker 13: great things like this and meet individuals like yourself. And
- 22:09Speaker 13: so for me, it was, it was a win-win situation.
- 22:12Speaker 13: So it's, it's been great.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:13Speaker 3: I love the rotational program that you guys do because I,
- 22:17Speaker 3: I never know who I'm coming in to work out with.
- 22:19Speaker 3: I literally just send in my times and then I
- 22:21Speaker 3: show up and I could be with anyone and that
- 22:24Speaker 3: doesn't bother me. I love working out with each and
- 22:26Speaker 3: every one of you and you guys share notes. Like
- 22:28Speaker 3: everyone has a different take on the approach to the workout.
- 22:32Speaker 3: And if I come in one day and say, okay,
- 22:34Speaker 3: summer is coming, I need abs. Like you guys know
- 22:37Speaker 3: what to do and always make me feel like if
- 22:39Speaker 3: I'm tired, you guys are very accommodating and don't make
- 22:42Speaker 3: me lift that hard compared to when I'm not tired.
- 22:45Speaker 3: But I think because you guys have such an excellent
- 22:48Speaker 3: roster of trainers, anyone who comes in here is going
- 22:51Speaker 3: to feel very similarly.
- 22:54Speaker 13: Absolutely. For me, that's what stands out is the personalized experience,
- 22:58Speaker 13: you know, from being able to bring your dog in
- 23:00Speaker 13: to having water, to having treats, to having, you know,
- 23:02Speaker 13: your favorite Celsius ready. I think it's that personalized experience
- 23:06Speaker 13: that separates Dog Pound from the rest.
- 23:07Speaker 9: Totally.
- 23:08Speaker 13: And each coach here kind of does a great job
- 23:10Speaker 13: at giving you a little bit of, or a lot
- 23:12Speaker 13: of what you want and a little bit of what
- 23:13Speaker 13: you need.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Totally.
- 23:14Speaker 6: Yeah, I agree.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Justin. In the back.
- 23:18Speaker 8: Hi, Megan.
- 23:18Speaker 5: Hi.
- 23:19Speaker 14: I feel like we've never trained, but I did see
- 23:21Speaker 14: you after your marathon.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Oh, my God, yeah.
- 23:25Speaker 8: You came in for, like, a recovery session, which was awesome. Like,
- 23:28Speaker 8: we just had you on the table. We did stretches.
- 23:31Speaker 8: We did your Theragun. And then we had you at
- 23:34Speaker 8: least able to walk a little bit more.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Yes, I was really struggling. That's another thing. You guys
- 23:39Speaker 2: have the Theragun. You have the, what are those boots called?
- 23:43Speaker 2: The compression boots?
- 23:45Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 23:46Speaker 3: And then you also have a sauna and a cold plunge,
- 23:48Speaker 3: which I have yet to use, but there's a lot
- 23:51Speaker 3: of added bonuses of being a member here because there's
- 23:53Speaker 3: those other services.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Like you don't have to come in and do a
- 23:55Speaker 2: training session.
- 23:56Speaker 3: You can come in and say, I just need a
- 23:57Speaker 3: massage gun and boots because I'm dying.
- 24:00Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 24:00Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 24:01Speaker 8: So I'm, I'm Justin. I've been here for a little
- 24:04Speaker 8: over five years now.
- 24:06Speaker 14: Um, I started in the South Bay doing a lot
- 24:09Speaker 14: of group classes and.
- 24:10Speaker 8: Then, um, help the gym out over there through COVID.
- 24:14Speaker 14: And after COVID, I want to kind of Excel my
- 24:17Speaker 14: career path a little bit more. I want to take
- 24:18Speaker 14: more one-on-one trainings.
- 24:20Speaker 8: And, um, this gym, um, I don't know how it
- 24:23Speaker 8: came up. I think it was I was looking online.
- 24:26Speaker 8: I saw Dog Pound.
- 24:28Speaker 14: I looked at the Indeed and then I got an
- 24:33Speaker 14: interview from there. And then probably like a week or
- 24:35Speaker 14: two later, I got hired. And then five years later,
- 24:39Speaker 14: now we're here and we're yeah, we're still thriving.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Thriving every day. So you looked on Indeed.com.
- 24:46Speaker 14: Yeah, I was there and I was looking at, I
- 24:49Speaker 14: think Dog Pound appeared as an ad. And then I
- 24:52Speaker 14: would just look on Indeed to see if they were
- 24:54Speaker 14: like hiring anybody. And I was able to get in
- 24:58Speaker 14: touch with somebody. And then, yeah, the rest is history.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Very cool.
- 25:01Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Well, happy you're here.
- 25:03Speaker 8: I'm happy I'm here.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Caroline, hello.
- 25:06Speaker 3: Hi, Megan.
- 25:06Speaker 6: How are you?
- 25:07Speaker 2: I'm good.
- 25:07Speaker 11: Good.
- 25:09Speaker 2: How long, you've been in LA for how long now?
- 25:11Speaker 7: I have been in LA for six months.
- 25:14Speaker 11: Okay.
- 25:14Speaker 7: And I've been with Dog Pound for four years. I
- 25:17Speaker 7: came from New York City. Over the summer, I was
- 25:20Speaker 7: here for a month and I completely fell in love
- 25:23Speaker 7: with the team, the culture, the weather. And I knew
- 25:28Speaker 7: before I left that I was about to change my
- 25:30Speaker 7: whole life and move here.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Are you loving LA?
- 25:34Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 25:35Speaker 2: No turning back?
- 25:36Speaker 11: No. No.
- 25:37Speaker 13: You heard that, New York. You heard that.
- 25:39Speaker 3: I remember we used to see each other in the
- 25:41Speaker 3: New York gym, but we didn't know each other until
- 25:43Speaker 3: you got here.
- 25:43Speaker 8: Correct, yeah.
- 25:45Speaker 7: Yeah, so it's been, you know, such an interesting ride
- 25:52Speaker 7: experiencing both locations. I think they're both so special and unique,
- 25:55Speaker 7: and I love that clients like yourself have this opportunity
- 25:59Speaker 7: to train bi-coastally, that they can seamlessly work out, whether
- 26:04Speaker 7: they're in New York or L.A., And we not only
- 26:08Speaker 7: share notes within the gym, but we share notes across
- 26:12Speaker 7: the country. And so when we know someone is gonna
- 26:14Speaker 7: be traveling, we connect, we fill them in with your
- 26:18Speaker 7: progress and where you're at and whatnot, because at the
- 26:20Speaker 7: end of the day, we want you to have the
- 26:22Speaker 7: most seamless experience. And that is one reason why I
- 26:27Speaker 7: absolutely love this gym. I think that this gym is
- 26:29Speaker 7: so incredibly different than anything else that's out there because
- 26:33Speaker 7: of the level of service that we deliver. I think
- 26:37Speaker 7: we're extremely authentic. No one is asking the trainers or
- 26:41Speaker 7: the clients to fit into a box. We want you
- 26:44Speaker 7: to come in as who you are, and we want
- 26:46Speaker 7: to celebrate who you are. And I've just never been
- 26:49Speaker 7: in an environment that delivers that culture.
- 26:56Speaker 11: And I absolutely love it.
- 26:57Speaker 2: I echo that sentiment. John Franklin.
- 27:01Speaker 5: Hi, Megan.
- 27:02Speaker 10: Hi.
- 27:02Speaker 1: How are you?
- 27:03Speaker 2: I'm good.
- 27:04Speaker 11: Good.
- 27:05Speaker 2: How long have you been here?
- 27:06Speaker 1: I've been here almost four years now. I actually started
- 27:11Speaker 1: as an intern. During the pandemic, I made a career
- 27:15Speaker 1: change and I thought about what I really love to do.
- 27:18Speaker 1: I love running, fitness, lifting weights. So I was certified
- 27:24Speaker 1: from the National Academy of Sports Medicine. I was linked
- 27:26Speaker 1: up here through an internship program. And I was very
- 27:31Speaker 1: scared and I was very intimidated at first. And that's
- 27:33Speaker 1: what really drove me to this space. I looked at
- 27:37Speaker 1: it as the pinnacle of fitness in Los Angeles. And
- 27:40Speaker 1: when I came in the door, I was like, wow,
- 27:42Speaker 1: this is such a welcoming, fun, warm environment that also
- 27:46Speaker 1: has the intensity that pushes you to want to be
- 27:49Speaker 1: better at the same time. I've had such an amazing
- 27:53Speaker 1: time here. And training you has been amazing because you're
- 27:56Speaker 1: also a runner. So having that commonality with you has
- 27:59Speaker 1: been amazing.
- 27:59Speaker 3: Yes, you helped me a lot leading up to the marathon,
- 28:02Speaker 3: so thank you.
- 28:02Speaker 2: And you killed it.
- 28:03Speaker 5: We're so proud of you.
- 28:04Speaker 10: You're very sweet.
- 28:06Speaker 1: I think what I really like about this job is
- 28:07Speaker 1: that we work with high-profile clientele, but to me, all
- 28:12Speaker 1: of my clients are high-profile clientele, just giving the service that,
- 28:18Speaker 1: you know, you would imagine you would give the President
- 28:21Speaker 1: of the United States. Like, I give that to Megan
- 28:23Speaker 1: Graham because you're my... president in ways.
- 28:27Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 28:28Speaker 4: Of course.
- 28:32Speaker 11: Right.
- 28:32Speaker 5: Exactly. Exactly.
- 28:33Speaker 1: But I think it also speaks to the differences of
- 28:37Speaker 1: clients that we have.
- 28:37Speaker 5: You know, you're a runner.
- 28:38Speaker 1: We have people that are, you know, stay at home moms.
- 28:40Speaker 1: We have people prepping for fashion shows. We have dads
- 28:44Speaker 1: that want to get stronger because they want to be
- 28:45Speaker 1: able to lift their kids up. And then we also
- 28:47Speaker 1: have a, you And we all just have fun here.
- 28:55Speaker 1: And I consider this such a healthy work environment. I
- 28:59Speaker 1: consider my coworkers like my work family in a way
- 29:03Speaker 1: that is professional but fun.
- 29:07Speaker 5: And we all have a great time together.
- 29:08Speaker 1: And yeah, I love my coworkers. I love our clients.
- 29:11Speaker 1: And I think that really shines through with our relationship
- 29:15Speaker 1: with each other and how we all smile.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Well said. Smiling is important.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Smiling is important.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Steven.
- 29:20Speaker 11: Steven.
- 29:21Speaker 10: All right.
- 29:21Speaker 11: Hello, Megan.
- 29:23Speaker 9: A little about me already stuttering. I moved here about
- 29:27Speaker 9: four years ago from Illinois. I was kind of just
- 29:30Speaker 9: doing construction there, working concrete, chilling. And then my buddy
- 29:35Speaker 9: told me to move out here just like on a whim.
- 29:38Speaker 9: And I was like, yeah, fuck it why not I
- 29:39Speaker 9: expected to be out here like a month or two
- 29:41Speaker 9: you know I had three grand saved up I was
- 29:43Speaker 9: like I'll get a little one month spot and the
- 29:45Speaker 9: person I moved in with actually got me the job
- 29:49Speaker 9: here my buddy Max who I moved in with he
- 29:52Speaker 9: thought it was a dog pound like a for like
- 29:56Speaker 9: summer right there I thought it was like a dog
- 29:58Speaker 9: So that's how he got the job. Put me on here.
- 30:01Speaker 9: I was working at a boxing gym down the street
- 30:03Speaker 9: too to start off. I was like 19 years old
- 30:06Speaker 9: and he got me a job as maintenance on the
- 30:08Speaker 9: side here. I think I was like part-time. And then
- 30:11Speaker 9: a few of the trainers, they all like saw potential
- 30:14Speaker 9: in me. They were like trying to get me to
- 30:16Speaker 9: get my certification, become a trainer here. Probably like a
- 30:20Speaker 9: year later, I started training here. That might've been like
- 30:22Speaker 9: three years ago. It kind of all came by surprise,
- 30:26Speaker 9: just luck, bless. Now I got like the easiest job
- 30:30Speaker 9: in the world, training people.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Training people and working with great people.
- 30:35Speaker 5: Exactly.
- 30:35Speaker 2: What else could you ask for?
- 30:37Speaker 6: Not much.
- 30:38Speaker 9: Really, this is like, if I even asked for this,
- 30:40Speaker 9: that would have been too much.
- 30:41Speaker 2: That's very sweet.
- 30:43Speaker 13: All right.
- 30:44Speaker 2: John Malone in the back.
- 30:47Speaker 13: Speaking of dogs.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Drew, you can't hide from me.
- 30:50Speaker 11: Hello.
- 30:51Speaker 10: Hello.
- 30:53Speaker 5: I like the full name introduction.
- 30:54Speaker 10: Thank you. Thank you.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Of course. You were my first trainer at this gym.
- 30:58Speaker 7: Was I really? Yeah.
- 30:59Speaker 10: I didn't know that.
- 31:00Speaker 3: Yes.
- 31:01Speaker 2: We started working out together.
- 31:02Speaker 3: I think you were my, before the rotational program really
- 31:06Speaker 3: took off, or I guess before you got busy, I
- 31:11Speaker 3: used to work out with.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Just you last year. You were my first intro to
- 31:14Speaker 2: this gym.
- 31:15Speaker 5: I'm glad you stayed. Yes. I wonder what did it.
- 31:18Speaker 5: I don't know. Couldn't have been me.
- 31:21Speaker 2: How long have you been here?
- 31:23Speaker 5: I've been here for two years, two weeks, and four days.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Whoa, but who's counting?
- 31:29Speaker 10: I count every day.
- 31:30Speaker 9: Whoa.
- 31:32Speaker 2: And how did you come across Dog Pound?
- 31:34Speaker 10: Long, long story, kind of. I originally started working at
- 31:39Speaker 10: a whole bunch of gyms. I actually worked at the
- 31:41Speaker 10: same gym Justin worked at. We weren't there at the
- 31:43Speaker 10: same time, but just coincidentally we happened to be there
- 31:46Speaker 10: at just the same place. Eventually, I kind of just...
- 31:52Speaker 10: was driving between like three or four gyms during the day,
- 31:55Speaker 10: just kind of filling up my schedule. One of my
- 31:59Speaker 10: college friends and college teammates was working here at the time.
- 32:06Speaker 10: He does not work here anymore. And I reached out
- 32:09Speaker 10: to him just like, hey, how is Dog Pound? How
- 32:13Speaker 10: is LA? How is training in LA? And the caddies
- 32:15Speaker 10: gave me their rundown. And I was like, well, if
- 32:17Speaker 10: any spots open up, let me know. Eventually, a couple
- 32:21Speaker 10: months later, they did. I came in for an interview.
- 32:25Speaker 5: It went well.
- 32:26Speaker 10: And then since then, I've been here.
- 32:28Speaker 3: So guys, obviously you all have different origin stories. Some
- 32:32Speaker 3: started with internships. Some started with knowing someone here. Some
- 32:34Speaker 3: started with Indeed. There's so many trainers out there and
- 32:39Speaker 3: people who want to grow up and become trainers and
- 32:41Speaker 3: get into this space. What do you think is the
- 32:44Speaker 3: best route nowadays if someone wants to go work at
- 32:47Speaker 3: a dog pound or have a career in fitness?
- 32:50Speaker 2: Start with Morgan, maybe. Just cause you're right here. That's true.
- 32:56Speaker 2: I think it's, there's two parts to that.
- 33:02Speaker 12: I think that there are people who are trainers that
- 33:05Speaker 12: mostly work online. And so then getting into a space
- 33:10Speaker 12: like this can kind of have its challenges because you're
- 33:13Speaker 12: not connected within the community.
- 33:16Speaker 2: We're dealing with people.
- 33:17Speaker 11: Yes.
- 33:18Speaker 2: Like in person.
- 33:18Speaker 5: Yes.
- 33:19Speaker 12: I think it's a lot harder actually learning how to
- 33:23Speaker 12: communicate properly with people and like being able to know
- 33:28Speaker 12: how people are going to respond to you, like with
- 33:30Speaker 12: your cues or coaching. I'm not sure if anyone else
- 33:32Speaker 12: agrees with that. I would say my best advice would
- 33:36Speaker 12: be get immersed in the community you're trying to be in.
- 33:40Speaker 12: And that starts with social media, at least for me
- 33:42Speaker 12: in this day and age.
- 33:44Speaker 2: It's like get connected.
- 33:45Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 33:46Speaker 12: Ask questions and like ask to meet with said person
- 33:52Speaker 12: in the space you want to work at. I find
- 33:55Speaker 12: that showing them your face and having a conversation in
- 33:59Speaker 12: person is going to get you much farther than just
- 34:02Speaker 12: staying online. And so just show up. Like if you
- 34:06Speaker 12: want to work at a certain gym, show up, ask
- 34:08Speaker 12: if you can meet with the manager or one of
- 34:10Speaker 12: the lead trainers and then kind of pitch yourself. Because
- 34:14Speaker 12: at the end of the day, you could look amazing
- 34:16Speaker 12: on Instagram or TikTok, and then in person, you don't
- 34:19Speaker 12: know how to talk. And so it is showing kind
- 34:23Speaker 12: of what you have in person.
- 34:25Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a business of people, just like my business.
- 34:28Speaker 2: It's very similar.
- 34:29Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 34:30Speaker 2: It's got to have social cues. You have to know.
- 34:32Speaker 3: You guys deal with a lot of high-profile clients, of course,
- 34:35Speaker 3: and some people don't know.
- 34:37Speaker 2: How to do that.
- 34:38Speaker 3: It's not a skill that you can learn.
- 34:40Speaker 2: You have to have it, right? Because I know... some
- 34:45Speaker 2: people who.
- 34:45Speaker 3: Come in here are like very important and you guys,
- 34:49Speaker 3: you guys know how to stay cool and make them
- 34:52Speaker 3: feel like they're like everyone else and not treat them.
- 34:55Speaker 3: You know, of course you're treating them with respect, but
- 34:57Speaker 3: you're not treating them in a way that like makes
- 34:59Speaker 3: them feel weird for working out here. Like it just,
- 35:02Speaker 3: it's like another person just being in the gym and coexisting.
- 35:05Speaker 3: So to navigate that as it can be a little
- 35:07Speaker 3: tricky probably.
- 35:08Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 35:09Speaker 2: For some, but not for you guys.
- 35:10Speaker 11: Yeah. Yeah.
- 35:12Speaker 3: Does anyone else have any advice that they want to
- 35:15Speaker 3: share for people looking to break into the space or
- 35:18Speaker 3: work at Dog Pound or anything you've learned?
- 35:21Speaker 12: Sure.
- 35:21Speaker 13: I will say, you know, for those coaches that are
- 35:24Speaker 13: looking to get into fitness and to get into Dog Pound,
- 35:27Speaker 13: potentially the number one thing that I would focus on
- 35:30Speaker 13: would be your education. Take that very serious. You know,
- 35:33Speaker 13: take the opportunities to go learn as much as you can.
- 35:35Speaker 13: If there's a certification that you're interested in, go take it.
- 35:38Speaker 13: If there's a class you're interested in, go take it.
- 35:40Speaker 13: If there's someone that you know that's really good with
- 35:42Speaker 13: a certain modality, go work out with them. Get as
- 35:44Speaker 13: much of that education as you can. And then get
- 35:47Speaker 13: a lot of real-world experience. Don't be afraid to try things.
- 35:51Speaker 13: I'll say every coach here kind of has their specialty.
- 35:55Speaker 13: Outside of here, we've probably done a great job at
- 35:57Speaker 13: finding our people and gravitating towards those people in the
- 36:01Speaker 13: community that we like to train. But what's really cool
- 36:03Speaker 13: about the coaches that are here is that although we
- 36:06Speaker 13: have our own specialties, we can train anyone. We can
- 36:09Speaker 13: coach anyone. And a lot of times, you know, we
- 36:11Speaker 13: might have a plan for a person and, you know,
- 36:14Speaker 13: we might, that person might show up and they're like, well, hey, listen,
- 36:17Speaker 13: I just went skiing over the weekend and my whole
- 36:19Speaker 13: back's wrecked. My knees are messed up, so I can't
- 36:21Speaker 13: do anything that we were supposed to do today. And
- 36:23Speaker 13: you have to change that plan. And so being very
- 36:25Speaker 13: good at programming and being able to use the entire gym,
- 36:29Speaker 13: being able to program in a functional way and not
- 36:31Speaker 13: just thinking about a specific, you know, one piece of
- 36:33Speaker 13: equipment that makes you very, you know, individualized to that,
- 36:36Speaker 13: I think is going to help you in your skill.
- 36:38Speaker 13: And take it serious, because if you're not passionate about fitness,
- 36:42Speaker 13: then you're not going to really be able to go
- 36:43Speaker 13: far in this business. I like what Morgan said in
- 36:46Speaker 13: regards to being a people person. Practice those skills. As coaches,
- 36:49Speaker 13: we wear a lot of different hats. I mean, we're
- 36:51Speaker 13: not just fitness coaches. A lot of times we're psychiatrists.
- 36:54Speaker 13: We're nutritionists. We're dietitians. We're all of that. We kind
- 36:57Speaker 13: of wear all of those hats. But I think it's
- 37:00Speaker 13: important to stay within your scope of practice, but be
- 37:02Speaker 13: able to educate yourself enough to be able to point
- 37:05Speaker 13: your clients in the right direction. But then also don't
- 37:08Speaker 13: be afraid to admit that you don't know something, but
- 37:10Speaker 13: then take that challenge to go out and find that
- 37:13Speaker 13: information and research that on your own. So for any
- 37:16Speaker 13: coaches that are looking to break into fitness, you know,
- 37:18Speaker 13: stay passionate, take your education very, very serious, and then
- 37:21Speaker 13: go out in the real world and practice that and
- 37:24Speaker 13: get those real world experiences and, you know, fail more.
- 37:27Speaker 13: You know, if there's something that you don't do great at,
- 37:29Speaker 13: do more of those things.
- 37:31Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 37:32Speaker 3: When you guys have a celebrity client, let's say, who
- 37:35Speaker 3: comes in and says, I need to lose 100 pounds
- 37:40Speaker 3: for a role or I need to gain weight for
- 37:42Speaker 3: a role, that also requires a lot of tailoring.
- 37:46Speaker 2: How do you deal with that? Because that is definitely
- 37:48Speaker 2: out of the ordinary.
- 37:51Speaker 13: We sent him back to John in the background.
- 37:55Speaker 5: That's my specialty. I'll answer the question.
- 37:58Speaker 10: One, it really depends on who that person is. Their
- 38:04Speaker 10: body matrix in general is something you kind of have
- 38:06Speaker 10: to be familiar with. My experience from it is just
- 38:11Speaker 10: training athletes for a long period of time, training football players,
- 38:14Speaker 10: training fighters, having them have to cut weight, having them
- 38:17Speaker 10: have to be at a certain weight at a certain
- 38:20Speaker 10: time So truly knowing the timetable and how the body responds.
- 38:25Speaker 10: So it's something you have to be super active about. Honestly,
- 38:29Speaker 10: every day, every week at that point, I would have
- 38:32Speaker 10: my clients check in or weigh in pretty much every day.
- 38:38Speaker 10: That's not just like a regular scale. It's a body
- 38:42Speaker 10: index scale. So I need to be able to see
- 38:43Speaker 10: your waters, your fat percentages, all those things, all that breakdown.
- 38:48Speaker 10: Because that way I can actively adjust. Not only your food,
- 38:52Speaker 10: your weight plan, and your cardio on an everyday basis.
- 38:56Speaker 10: But it's something that's super intricate. I think there's like
- 39:03Speaker 10: a friendly science to it. It's not always perfect because
- 39:05Speaker 10: everybody's body responds differently. So it's something that you just
- 39:10Speaker 10: kind of get used to. There's basic things that are
- 39:15Speaker 10: going to work. But being able to adjust and adapt
- 39:19Speaker 10: very quickly is something I think I'm pretty good at.
- 39:22Speaker 10: Not only like in sessions, but just with people. And
- 39:27Speaker 10: that's the biggest key, right? You don't want somebody... to
- 39:30Speaker 10: lose confidence in you as a trainer so as soon
- 39:32Speaker 10: as you fumble on something they're kind of like oh
- 39:36Speaker 10: I don't know if I trust you always want that
- 39:38Speaker 10: person to be like hey I have full confidence in
- 39:41Speaker 10: my trainer's abilities I'm gonna have full confidence in my
- 39:44Speaker 10: abilities now when I tell you to do something you're
- 39:46Speaker 10: like okay I can get it done very quickly. And
- 39:49Speaker 10: it's just like a beautiful little poetry in motion there.
- 39:54Speaker 5: But yeah.
- 39:55Speaker 2: And that scale that you use, it measures BMI, yeah?
- 40:00Speaker 2: I've been meaning to do that.
- 40:01Speaker 8: I haven't done that yet.
- 40:02Speaker 13: It's important. That's super important. I'm glad he said that
- 40:04Speaker 13: because he does a really good job. Not just him,
- 40:06Speaker 13: but I think anyone at this, you know, any coaches
- 40:08Speaker 13: that are here, we do a great job at just
- 40:09Speaker 13: tracking progress. That's what's important. So when you get those
- 40:12Speaker 13: clients that have that role that's coming up, you know,
- 40:15Speaker 13: Trust is a big part of it, trusting the plan,
- 40:17Speaker 13: but then also making sure that, you know, that you're
- 40:19Speaker 13: tracking the progress along the way is super important. But
- 40:22Speaker 13: we've got to get you on the InBody. What are
- 40:24Speaker 13: we waiting on?
- 40:24Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't know.
- 40:25Speaker 2: We've got to do it soon because I'm going to
- 40:27Speaker 2: New York for the summer.
- 40:28Speaker 13: We do have a really cool piece of equipment that's
- 40:32Speaker 13: brought to us by Techno Gym, and it tracks everything.
- 40:35Speaker 5: We've got to get you on it.
- 40:36Speaker 2: Is it connected to an app or?
- 40:38Speaker 10: It is.
- 40:38Speaker 3: Okay, cool.
- 40:39Speaker 2: That's great.
- 40:40Speaker 13: Skeletal muscle mass, body fat percentage. I believe it also
- 40:43Speaker 13: tracks brain health, brain function, things like that as well.
- 40:46Speaker 13: Shout out Techno Gym.
- 40:48Speaker 2: We love that.
- 40:50Speaker 3: So obviously people who are interested in becoming a member
- 40:54Speaker 3: of the Dog Pound community can work with a trainer
- 40:56Speaker 3: and do a session, but you guys also offer classes
- 40:59Speaker 3: a couple times a week. So that's part of the package,
- 41:02Speaker 3: which I find very interesting.
- 41:04Speaker 2: Boxing classes. What are some of the other ones?
- 41:08Speaker 12: Caroline teaches classes.
- 41:10Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 41:10Speaker 2: So we have a variety of classes.
- 41:13Speaker 7: I teach a strength and conditioning class. We have classes
- 41:16Speaker 7: that are more skill focused. If you wanted to learn
- 41:19Speaker 7: kettlebell techniques, we also have classes that are very aesthetic
- 41:24Speaker 7: focused as you know, like Morgan teaches a lower body.
- 41:28Speaker 7: I know in New York city, Lindsay is holding down
- 41:31Speaker 7: the booty builder class there. And yeah, Steven teaches boxing
- 41:36Speaker 7: and we have a stretch and mobility class. We really
- 41:39Speaker 7: wanted to choose classes that were diverse, that it was
- 41:46Speaker 7: something that people would be interested in and there would
- 41:52Speaker 7: be different options. Our membership models are based on your
- 41:56Speaker 7: training frequency. So every month in your membership, you have
- 42:00Speaker 7: so many sessions. And then on top of those sessions,
- 42:04Speaker 7: you can attend as many classes as you want. So
- 42:07Speaker 7: let's say, you know, you have a membership model where
- 42:09Speaker 7: you're here once a week with a trainer. You can
- 42:12Speaker 7: come up to three, four times a week by attending
- 42:15Speaker 7: these classes. And the classes are incredible because you're working
- 42:18Speaker 7: with your favorite trainers. They are limited spots. There's maybe,
- 42:23Speaker 7: you know, max like 10 people. Usually the average is
- 42:26Speaker 7: five to seven. And so you're still really getting that
- 42:29Speaker 7: one-on-one attention. You have somebody fixing your form, and giving
- 42:33Speaker 7: you feedback right on the spot. You're never going to
- 42:35Speaker 7: feel lost here.
- 42:36Speaker 11: I love it.
- 42:39Speaker 3: And if you guys want to join Dog Pound and
- 42:42Speaker 3: you say Clyde, you get a special member rate for
- 42:46Speaker 3: joining with Clyde. You can email Yolanta at the LA
- 42:50Speaker 3: location and she will hook you up. So don't forget
- 42:53Speaker 3: to do that if you're interested. They're very flexible too
- 42:55Speaker 3: with training times and maybe not so much with the
- 42:59Speaker 3: classes because you gotta be on time for class, but
- 43:02Speaker 3: I know if I need to last minute switch.
- 43:04Speaker 2: My individual session, you guys are always very flexible.
- 43:07Speaker 3: Other than being able to bring your animal a la summer,
- 43:11Speaker 3: this really is the best gym in Los Angeles. All
- 43:14Speaker 3: the trainers, you've met a couple of them here. They
- 43:17Speaker 3: really are the best of the best. They're super flexible
- 43:20Speaker 3: and it's right in West Hollywood, so an amazing location.
- 43:24Speaker 3: We are missing Kara today, so shout out to Kara.
- 43:26Speaker 4: Shout out, Kara.
- 43:27Speaker 2: Kara, we love you, Kara. But if you guys are
- 43:30Speaker 2: interested in joining Dog Pound as.
- 43:32Speaker 3: A member or a trainer, reach out to Yolanta. She
- 43:35Speaker 3: is the manager here, and she is spectacular. And if
- 43:38Speaker 3: you say Clyde when you email, you will get a
- 43:40Speaker 3: special member rate.
- 43:41Speaker 2: So let's get going. What are you waiting for?
- 43:44Speaker 12: Summer.
- 43:45Speaker 11: Let's go.
- 43:46Speaker 2: All right, thank you guys for coming on. Thanks for
- 43:48Speaker 2: having us.
- 43:49Speaker 3: Of course. Okay, guys, the last part of our Dog
- 43:55Speaker 3: Pound segment, I have the owner of Dog Pound actually
- 43:58Speaker 3: joining me today, Lily Gatian.
- 44:01Speaker 11: Lily, where are you today? Are you in London? Are
- 44:03Speaker 11: you in New York? Are you in LA? I know
- 44:05Speaker 11: you bop between the three a lot. Yeah, I'm in
- 44:08Speaker 11: London for the summer season, but I hopped back to
- 44:12Speaker 11: New York for the World Cup quickly, but I'm back
- 44:15Speaker 11: in London again. Very fun. London in the summer, I think,
- 44:19Speaker 11: is everyone's dream. I'm so jealous. That sounds delightful. Yeah,
- 44:23Speaker 11: it's really nice.
- 44:24Speaker 3: I don't go back to LA till the fall. So
- 44:27Speaker 3: maybe I'll catch you at the LA gym next or
- 44:29Speaker 3: do you have any plans to come back soon?
- 44:32Speaker 11: I'm going to go to LA in September. So maybe then. Okay, cool.
- 44:37Speaker 3: How do you decide, since you're the owner of Dog Pound,
- 44:40Speaker 3: there's obviously two locations. How do you decide where you
- 44:45Speaker 3: split your time between the two gyms or is it
- 44:47Speaker 3: kind of just wherever you are?
- 44:49Speaker 11: Well, I check in every day through text and Slack.
- 44:54Speaker 11: with both of my teams and my managers in both locations.
- 44:58Speaker 11: So I'm extremely involved. And I have calls set up
- 45:03Speaker 11: every other day. And so I'm always aware of the
- 45:09Speaker 11: day-to-day happenings. But usually it's what my schedule allows. So
- 45:16Speaker 11: I always try to start with LA when I'm going
- 45:18Speaker 11: back to America and then go to New York after because...
- 45:24Speaker 11: My residency is in between places, so I can't spend
- 45:31Speaker 11: more time in one place than the other, but I
- 45:35Speaker 11: try my best, of course. Well, I can't wait to
- 45:38Speaker 11: see you when we're both back.
- 45:40Speaker 3: So for people who aren't familiar with Dog Pound, what
- 45:43Speaker 3: sets the gym apart from other gyms?
- 45:46Speaker 11: Well, my team knows this very well. I don't like
- 45:51Speaker 11: to use the word gyms. I never think of Doc
- 45:54Speaker 11: Pound as a gym. I've never associated with it. To me, truthfully,
- 45:58Speaker 11: it's a exclusive performance members club. You know, it is
- 46:05Speaker 11: so much more than a gym. It is a community
- 46:10Speaker 11: of a very cool, niche, authentic people and community that
- 46:17Speaker 11: have become very close, you know, family together. And to me,
- 46:21Speaker 11: Doc Pound is more of a members club than actual
- 46:25Speaker 11: members clubs. And they wish they had what we have.
- 46:28Speaker 11: The type of clientele that have accumulated and the energy
- 46:32Speaker 11: of Doc Pound has attracted are so unique and powerful
- 46:38Speaker 11: in their own way. Like, you know, we have like
- 46:41Speaker 11: amazing opera singer, ballet dancer, or actor, or agent, or director,
- 46:47Speaker 11: or sports person, or, you know, an amazing... book publishing
- 46:54Speaker 11: house owner or director, or like we have like the
- 46:59Speaker 11: coolest people from the coolest niches. We are primarily known
- 47:04Speaker 11: publicly for celebrities and we do have a lot of that.
- 47:07Speaker 11: But what I really love about Doc Bond is like
- 47:10Speaker 11: truly accumulates a really, really, really cool group of people
- 47:15Speaker 11: that you can't really be around or find anywhere else.
- 47:20Speaker 11: And that's always been very exciting for me because I
- 47:23Speaker 11: love speaking to those people. I love listening to them.
- 47:26Speaker 11: And so I'm really proud of the group and the
- 47:29Speaker 11: members that Doc Pound has created. And so to me,
- 47:37Speaker 11: Doc Pound's not a gym. It's like this very unique
- 47:42Speaker 11: gathering of very unique people that I don't think you could,
- 47:45Speaker 11: it's hard to, meet them and create relationships with these
- 47:51Speaker 11: kind of people anywhere else, even at members clubs elsewhere.
- 47:59Speaker 11: So to me, dog pound is a very special space
- 48:05Speaker 11: where people feel really safe, where they feel safe to
- 48:08Speaker 11: be vulnerable because when they work out, the ego checks
- 48:11Speaker 11: out and the energy is so high and powerful. You
- 48:15Speaker 11: feel so euphoric when you are there, when you leave
- 48:20Speaker 11: because of the energy of the loud music and like
- 48:23Speaker 11: the trainers and like, it's a rotation system. So everyone
- 48:26Speaker 11: knows everyone. It feels very nurturing to the client. And
- 48:29Speaker 11: because of that, they're very open to conversing with other
- 48:33Speaker 11: people and like actually becoming friends with other members, which
- 48:36Speaker 11: I think is actually hard in members clubs because everyone
- 48:39Speaker 11: has their own people. And so I've seen some crazy,
- 48:44Speaker 11: partnerships happen and friendships at a big scale and a
- 48:48Speaker 11: small scale. So I just think it's a true testament
- 48:51Speaker 11: to how powerful the energy is when you're there as
- 48:56Speaker 11: a member. So to me, it's not a gym. It's
- 48:58Speaker 11: something entirely on its own. I think I couldn't have
- 49:02Speaker 11: said it better. I completely agree with you. You walk
- 49:05Speaker 11: into Dogman, you never know who you're going to be
- 49:07Speaker 11: working out next to. Everyone's super friendly.
- 49:09Speaker 3: I think you guys do a great job with your
- 49:12Speaker 3: high profile clientele and I've sent a bunch of clients there,
- 49:15Speaker 3: whether they're training for a role or they're just looking
- 49:18Speaker 3: for a new space to work in.
- 49:20Speaker 11: Out.
- 49:20Speaker 3: I think all of your trainers and other members are
- 49:24Speaker 3: so discreet and also so welcoming and very respectful of, okay,
- 49:28Speaker 3: it's eight in the morning and maybe we don't have
- 49:32Speaker 3: to be super chatty, but like They're aware of their
- 49:36Speaker 3: space and who's in it. And you guys do such
- 49:39Speaker 3: a great job curating members.
- 49:42Speaker 11: So yeah, well said.
- 49:44Speaker 3: So with all of this being said, what are your
- 49:46Speaker 3: goals for the gym as the owner of Dog Pound?
- 49:49Speaker 11: My goal is to expand that really rare energy that
- 49:59Speaker 11: we have in the space and make it louder and
- 50:04Speaker 11: bigger and more global and i mean that internally and
- 50:12Speaker 11: externally and whatever that's meant to be but my goal
- 50:15Speaker 11: is to i really every time i meet a client
- 50:20Speaker 11: they can be a very high profile client or really
- 50:22Speaker 11: private clients every time i'm introduced to them they say
- 50:28Speaker 11: the most profound beautiful things about dog pound i have
- 50:32Speaker 11: a client that drives in like two to three hours
- 50:36Speaker 11: outside of New York just to go and work out there.
- 50:39Speaker 11: And then she'll drive three hours back to another state.
- 50:44Speaker 11: And you know, I'm so close with my clients that
- 50:49Speaker 11: I know I could ask her and I was like,
- 50:50Speaker 11: are you okay? Like what's going on? Like, that's crazy.
- 50:53Speaker 11: And she was like, I know it is, but I've
- 50:55Speaker 11: never felt so, I've never felt so seen and beautiful
- 51:02Speaker 11: in my own body than when I am in this space.
- 51:05Speaker 11: And I tried replicating that and I couldn't, and it's
- 51:10Speaker 11: worth every investment for me to drive in here, work
- 51:12Speaker 11: out and then drive back. And she said, she's really
- 51:16Speaker 11: considering moving, um, to New York because of dock bound.
- 51:22Speaker 11: And she said that herself. And I think that's a
- 51:25Speaker 11: true Testament of how the space and the people and
- 51:30Speaker 11: the team makes the clients feel that all that love
- 51:35Speaker 11: and attention is honed in on that one client. And
- 51:38Speaker 11: that's replicated in each client who's a member. And I
- 51:41Speaker 11: would really, really love it if I could do that
- 51:46Speaker 11: elsewhere in other places and expand that environment because being
- 51:52Speaker 11: able to have, to be able to give that these
- 51:57Speaker 11: moments in people's lives when, Our lives can be so
- 52:01Speaker 11: heavy sometimes. It makes me feel really proud and a
- 52:08Speaker 11: genuine purpose of giving back. There's nothing like that. And
- 52:14Speaker 11: if I could do that and replicate that, then that's
- 52:16Speaker 11: the dream. And if that means opening more spaces, then
- 52:20Speaker 11: that's what it is. But to me, that's truthfully what
- 52:25Speaker 11: my drive is and my ambition is for Doc Pounce.
- 52:28Speaker 11: is to let more people feel that way about themselves
- 52:33Speaker 11: and giving and creating that space for others to come into.
- 52:39Speaker 11: And that's my long-term goal with DocFound from the smallest
- 52:43Speaker 11: level of me, meaning that to the highest. That's wonderful.
- 52:47Speaker 3: I mean, I totally relate to your other client who
- 52:51Speaker 3: likes to drive just to go to the gym because
- 52:53Speaker 3: I've been in the Hamptons all summer and I've been
- 52:56Speaker 3: driving in from South Hampton to go do a workout.
- 52:59Speaker 3: I've definitely been doing my virtuals too. I'm actually doing
- 53:02Speaker 3: a virtual with Morgan after this. But there is a
- 53:04Speaker 3: difference between making the effort to go into the city
- 53:07Speaker 3: for the day, get your workout in, be in the gym,
- 53:09Speaker 3: feel the energy. You feel like a new person. And
- 53:12Speaker 3: it really, it's a nice way to split up the week.
- 53:14Speaker 3: So I think I'm going to do it again next week.
- 53:17Speaker 6: I know.
- 53:17Speaker 11: I saw you on the schedule. I look at the
- 53:20Speaker 11: schedule every day and I get notes of who's doing what.
- 53:23Speaker 11: And I saw you on the virtual and I was like, okay, great.
- 53:26Speaker 3: I've been loving the virtual. I've got my whole setup
- 53:28Speaker 3: here and it stops raining today. So I'm going to
- 53:31Speaker 3: do it outside on the deck and Morgan and I have,
- 53:34Speaker 3: we're in, we're in our groove.
- 53:35Speaker 11: So it's, it's great. I'm so excited.
- 53:37Speaker 4: I love that.
- 53:38Speaker 11: Sounds so nice.
- 53:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 53:40Speaker 11: And I'm going to do, I'm going to do a
- 53:41Speaker 11: virtual when I go to Europe this summer too. So
- 53:43Speaker 11: for anyone.
- 53:44Speaker 3: Who is on vacation, I mean, I think one of
- 53:48Speaker 3: the things that I struggle with on vacation is how
- 53:50Speaker 3: do I work out if I'm, if I'm away for
- 53:53Speaker 3: 10 days somewhere with no gym or, um, if, if
- 53:57Speaker 3: I'm sick of running and it's hilly, uh, your trainers
- 54:00Speaker 3: can really do a good job at incorporating a virtual
- 54:03Speaker 3: session with body weight and, uh, different types of movement.
- 54:07Speaker 3: So I strongly encourage it for anyone who's listening.
- 54:10Speaker 11: It's, it's really fantastic. It's so difficult to work out
- 54:14Speaker 11: without a trainer. I travel all the time. And if
- 54:17Speaker 11: there's not a person waiting for me, I will never
- 54:19Speaker 11: ever make it to the gym. So I'm so glad. Yeah.
- 54:24Speaker 11: that I can join dog pound virtual wherever I'm in
- 54:26Speaker 11: the world. I think that's another great point. Like you
- 54:29Speaker 11: don't have to live in New York or LA to
- 54:32Speaker 11: be a dog pound member and to experience that energy.
- 54:34Speaker 11: You know, you could be a virtual member and whenever
- 54:37Speaker 11: you do travel to New York and LA, then you,
- 54:40Speaker 11: that's part of your membership. Uh, so you can come in,
- 54:43Speaker 11: which is amazing. And it's the best truly.
- 54:47Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 54:48Speaker 11: So also great advantage to be a part of the community. Absolutely. Absolutely.
- 54:52Speaker 3: So to close out, what advice would you give someone
- 54:54Speaker 3: who's looking to be part of a fitness community like
- 54:57Speaker 3: Dog Pound or to potentially own a gym one day
- 55:01Speaker 3: in two of the biggest cities in the States?
- 55:04Speaker 11: It is very hard to manage and maintain a gym
- 55:10Speaker 11: and to build upon it. It's really rare what has
- 55:15Speaker 11: become of Dog Pound. And I'm very aware and grateful
- 55:18Speaker 11: for that. And I think really leading with discipline and
- 55:26Speaker 11: intuition and energy in cultivating a team that is able
- 55:31Speaker 11: to make everyone feel that way from staff to staff to,
- 55:35Speaker 11: you know, staff to clientele. It is, the whole dog
- 55:40Speaker 11: pound is based upon people to people. So I think
- 55:47Speaker 11: being able to hire the right energies and always being
- 55:51Speaker 11: aware of the energy that is in the room and felt.
- 55:56Speaker 11: And then leading with awareness of that, I think is very,
- 56:01Speaker 11: very crucial for a business like a gym because it
- 56:06Speaker 11: is people to people and it's very personal. It's very intimate. You're,
- 56:10Speaker 11: you know, you're with a trainer for an hour and
- 56:13Speaker 11: a lot of clients are, they get very bonded to
- 56:16Speaker 11: trainers and And, you know, a lot of times they
- 56:20Speaker 11: become their therapists. And obviously the trainer needs to understand
- 56:26Speaker 11: that fine line. But from the client perspective, I think
- 56:29Speaker 11: really understanding energy and trusting it is very important in
- 56:33Speaker 11: people of people businesses. And I think that's my answer.
- 56:39Speaker 11: Did I answer it? Perfect.
- 56:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 56:41Speaker 11: No, I loved all your answers. Thank you so much.
- 56:43Speaker 3: Of course.
- 56:44Speaker 11: I'm honored to be here. The whole team loves you
- 56:48Speaker 11: to death. Both.
- 56:53Speaker 3: I'm like the dog pound poster child.
- 56:56Speaker 11: Like I actually love it so much.
- 56:58Speaker 3: And I, one of my goals with the podcast and
- 57:01Speaker 3: with my company and my network is to really actually
- 57:04Speaker 3: like get you guys more people and to bring awareness
- 57:07Speaker 3: around it because it's so nice to have a gym
- 57:10Speaker 3: and trainers that, my schedule is so nuts and you
- 57:16Speaker 3: guys are so flexible with me and so accommodating and
- 57:19Speaker 3: so kind. And it's like, obviously changed my body too.
- 57:23Speaker 3: Like I, I just think it's, you're totally right. It's
- 57:28Speaker 3: like a members club. And I love how I have
- 57:31Speaker 3: gotten to know everyone in both locations. I've gotten to
- 57:33Speaker 3: know you. I feel like that's super rare. So keep
- 57:36Speaker 3: doing what you're doing. I think so highly of you
- 57:40Speaker 3: and the gym and what you guys have accomplished together. So, Um, yeah,
- 57:43Speaker 3: I can't wait to see you when I'm back in
- 57:45Speaker 3: LA and I hope you have a great rest of
- 57:48Speaker 3: your summer.
- 57:48Speaker 11: Of course. And I mean, I and the whole team
- 57:52Speaker 11: obviously feels the same way. And what you've done with
- 57:54Speaker 11: your company is so inspiring and so unique and like
- 57:59Speaker 11: such a like boss babe, like baddie. Like it's like
- 58:04Speaker 11: such a cool thing. Like every time, you know, I
- 58:07Speaker 11: would talk about you're the company. Everyone's like, Whoa, what? Like,
- 58:11Speaker 11: that's such a cool, like, wow. Like how does she come? Like,
- 58:14Speaker 11: how does she build it? Come up with the idea? Like,
- 58:17Speaker 11: it's so, so cool. Honestly, incredibly.
- 58:21Speaker 3: Well, girl boss, right back at you. Um, thank you
- 58:25Speaker 3: for coming on. Um, and thank you guys for tuning in.
