- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another episode of Learn Amharic with Fexingo? Luna: Yeah, totally! Last time we did time with half past. I want to practice more. Lucas: Perfect. So today we'll review half past and add a few more examples. Let's start with the question: That means 'what time is it?' Right? Lucas: Exactly. Now let's say 'it's half past nine.' In Amharic, that's That's a mouthful. Can you say it slowly? Say it with me. Lucas: Good. Now let's try 'half past three': ሦስት ሰዓት ተኩል ነው. That one's easier because the number is shorter. Lucas: Right. So if someone asks ስንት ሰዓት ነው? and it's 9:30, you say ዘጠኝ ሰዓት ተኩል ነው. If it's 3:30, ሦስት ሰዓት ተኩል ነው. Luna: So the pattern is number plus ሰዓት plus ተኩል plus ነው? Lucas: Exactly. Let's practice two more. How about 'half past one'? That's simple. And 'half past ten'? I like that one. Lucas: Let's do a mini conversation. I'll ask ስንት ሰዓት ነው? and you answer with half past nine. Luna: Okay. Lucas: Perfect. Now switch: I'll answer, and you ask. You say ስንት ሰዓት ነው? and I'll say አንድ ሰዓት ተኩል ነው. Luna: Alright. See how it flows? Luna: Yeah, I think I'm getting it. Lucas: You are. And by the way, if Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Amharic, you can support our ad-free mission at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It's a small way to keep the show going. Luna: That's nice. I like that we don't have ads interrupting. Lucas: Me too. So, let's keep practicing. Think of a time you might say this. Say you're meeting a friend at half past three. Luna: I'd say ሦስት ሰዓት ተኩል ነው, right? Lucas: Exactly. And if you want to confirm, you can ask ሦስት ሰዓት ተኩል ነው? with a rising tone. Like 'Is it half past three?' Lucas: Yes. Great job today, Luna. Keep practicing these, and soon you'll be telling time like a pro. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. See you next time! Lucas: See you! Practice these till we chat again.
