Transcript
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Kate Dreston here.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: If I only had a dollar for every time I wish I had a do-over, I'd be rich.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: I bet we've all wished that we could have a second chance to do better at something.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: And for me, it was last week.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: We had this special service for a couple that was leaving our church and moving to
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: a different state.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: They're good friends,
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: and I knew this was the last time I was going to see them this side of heaven.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Pastor
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: set up a mic,
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: and anyone who wanted to could go say what they've appreciated about them,
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: kind of like a tribute or something.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: So I had what I wanted to say typed on my phone.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: So all I had to do was read it.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: I don't even get nervous speaking in front of people,
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: so I didn't realize how hard it was going to be.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: As soon as I started to read what was on my phone, I started to cry.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: And it wasn't just tears.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: It was an ugly cry.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: It was one of those things where the harder I tried to stop, the worse it got.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: It was awful.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: I blubbered my way through,
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: felt completely embarrassed, and then I rehashed it in my head a hundred times.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: How I could have done things differently, you know how that goes.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: No matter how much I want to do over, it's not going to happen.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: And we can wish for all the second chances, but have you noticed that we rarely ever get them?
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Because life doesn't work that way.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Once something is done, it's usually done.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: As I was thinking about it this week, the Lord gave me some insight about do-overs.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: The Bible tells us there are some things that we can absolutely get a second chance
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: on, and I'm going to list four of them.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Number one, forgiveness.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: If you've sinned or hurt someone else's feelings
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: or just wish you could take back your actions, you can ask for forgiveness.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: And I know you're saying...
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: It might be too late.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: But if you're breathing right now, it's not too late.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: I can't promise others will forgive you, but I know God will.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's even time to forgive yourself and let it go.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: 2.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Reconciliation Hebrews 12:14 instructs us to make an effort.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: It tells us to pursue peace with all people.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: There is no time like the present for making amends.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: I know it's way easier said than done.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: I get that.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: But you can ask the Lord to help you and to give you direction.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Life is too short not to try to fix a cracked or broken relationship.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: 3.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Peace If peace eludes you, every sunrise brings you another chance to find it.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: Each day is a reset.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Life has a way of bringing times of anger, chaos, even anguish.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: But God promises peace to His children.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: And remember, we don't find peace in our circumstances.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: We find it in Him.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: And number four, happiness.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: In Matthew 5, the Beatitudes give us a glimpse into how blessed we can be.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: The Beatitudes are where it says, Blessed are the peacemakers.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: Blessed are the poor in spirit.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: Blessed are those who are pure in heart.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: And it goes on down the list.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: We can experience the fullness of life.,
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: joy, and contentment when we are in the right relationship with God.
- 3:25When we lose our "happy",
- 3:27following the Lord in every part of our life can help us find it again.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: So as we wrap it up, remember, every day is a reset.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: It's a chance to leave our mistakes behind.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: We can't change the past.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: We can only take action in the present.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: So today, choose God.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Choose love.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: Choose hope, because I'm going to be doing the same.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: Now go make it a great day, and thanks for listening.
