Mega Edition: Prince Andrew, The Interview And The Warning That He Ignored (7/27/26) · The Epstein Chronicles

0:00
Speaker 1: What's up everyone, and welcome back to the Epstein Chronicles.
0:04
Speaker 2: So at this point, my.
0:05
Speaker 1: Guess is everybody's familiar with Prince Andrew's Hindenberg level crash
0:11
Speaker 1: of an interview that he gave to Emily maitliss Well.
0:14
Speaker 1: Now the producer behind it all, who chased him down
0:18
Speaker 1: and set the interview up is dishing some tea over
0:23
Speaker 1: at the Daily Email. So why don't we just dive
0:26
Speaker 1: right into this article today and see what Sam McAllister,
0:31
Speaker 1: the producer and author of this article, has to say.
0:35
Speaker 1: Headline the full inside story behind Prince Andrew's car crash
0:39
Speaker 1: TV interview. The woman who set it all up reveals
0:42
Speaker 1: Beatrice listened to him, discussed teen sex claims and says
0:46
Speaker 1: each time I thought he couldn't say anything worse, he did.
0:50
Speaker 1: There's no doubt it was one of the worst displays
0:53
Speaker 1: I have ever seen of somebody giving a interview or
0:58
Speaker 1: a public speech or anything like that. Talk about open
1:02
Speaker 1: mouth and insert foot. How many things that he said
1:05
Speaker 1: during that interview have come back to haunt him. I
1:08
Speaker 1: can't sweat. I'm allergic to this. I was in Woking.
1:12
Speaker 1: I don't know her. I mean, come on, all of
1:15
Speaker 1: it has come back to boomerang and bust him directly
1:19
Speaker 1: in his stupid ass head. We were sitting face to
1:24
Speaker 1: face around the small table in Buckingham Palace, three of
1:28
Speaker 1: us from BBC Newsnight, plus Prince Andrew, his private secretary,
1:32
Speaker 1: and Princess Beatrice, who was writing in a notebook. At
1:36
Speaker 1: stake was the interview every broadcaster across the world would
1:40
Speaker 1: have given their right arm to do. Just then would
1:44
Speaker 1: Andrew agree to go on TV and talk about his
1:46
Speaker 1: friendship with Epstein. What followed was an intense two hours
1:50
Speaker 1: of questioning from the Prince and his daughter, and with
1:54
Speaker 1: every minute it became clearer that this wasn't one yet.
1:58
Speaker 1: So even to get the interview, Sam McAllister, the producer,
2:04
Speaker 1: had to run the gauntlet basically right. She had to
2:07
Speaker 1: sit down with Amanda Thrask, who was the Secretary at
2:11
Speaker 1: the time, and Princess Beatrice as well as Prince Andrew
2:15
Speaker 1: as they work through what the interview might entail. So
2:20
Speaker 1: I'm blown away that they were even able to get
2:23
Speaker 1: this interview, honestly, and if Prince Andrew could go back
2:26
Speaker 1: in time, I'm pretty sure that he'd go back in
2:29
Speaker 1: time and strike this one from everybody's memory as a
2:34
Speaker 1: Newsnight producer, I'd been pursuing this for months and was
2:38
Speaker 1: desperate to land it. So as we talked, I decided
2:41
Speaker 1: to give Prince and I decided to give it to
2:43
Speaker 1: Prince Andrew very bluntly, sir, I have lived in this
2:47
Speaker 1: country for over forty years, and until now I only
2:50
Speaker 1: knew two things about you. It's that you are known
2:54
Speaker 1: as air Miles Andy and Randy Andy, and I can
2:57
Speaker 1: absolutely tell you that the latter really doesn't help you
3:00
Speaker 1: in your current predicament. Had I blown our chances of
3:04
Speaker 1: landing the interview of a lifetime my colleagues, presenter Emily
3:07
Speaker 1: Maitliss and Newsnight Deputy editor Stuart Maclin looked genuinely shocked.
3:13
Speaker 1: There was a long pause, then Andrew laughed. The room
3:17
Speaker 1: collectively exhaled. I mean, is she wrong? What do we
3:22
Speaker 1: really know about this guy? Besides the fact that he's
3:25
Speaker 1: a grifter, He was terrible at the functionary role he
3:29
Speaker 1: was put in to represent the nation and the Queen,
3:32
Speaker 1: and we also know he is somebody with a proclivity
3:36
Speaker 1: to be a sick and disgusting bastard. It had started
3:44
Speaker 1: innocuously an email from a pr to me in November
3:47
Speaker 1: twenty eighteen, suggesting a chat about pitch at Palace, Prince
3:52
Speaker 1: Andrew's initiative to support entrepreneurs around the world. Would Newsnight
3:57
Speaker 1: like to interview him, interview him about it? Of course
4:00
Speaker 1: they want to do that, right and the Prince now
4:03
Speaker 1: before the scandal really broke off, right, So the Prince
4:06
Speaker 1: of course is trying to get as much publicity for
4:09
Speaker 1: his little project as possible so he can get more
4:12
Speaker 1: people like mister Turk to come in and give him some,
4:15
Speaker 1: you know, dirty money. Allegedly, the simple answer was no.
4:22
Speaker 1: We never agreed to puff pieces and never allow interviewees
4:25
Speaker 1: to give conditions. So I politely declined, do come back
4:29
Speaker 1: to me if the position changes. I signed off. It
4:32
Speaker 1: seems so unlikely that I didn't even tell my boss.
4:36
Speaker 1: I assumed I'd never hear from their pr again. But
4:39
Speaker 1: six months later I did. Prince Andrew was now open
4:42
Speaker 1: to a broader chat. Would I be interested in learning more?
4:46
Speaker 1: Absolutely so. This is a career maker right here. If
4:49
Speaker 1: you're a producer, a field producer, and you get a
4:52
Speaker 1: chance to produce the segment like this, this literally is
4:55
Speaker 1: a career changer. You can write your own ticket. After this,
4:59
Speaker 1: everybody from ABC to CNN, the Fox News to BBC
5:03
Speaker 1: to wherever you want to go is gonna give you
5:06
Speaker 1: a job because securing this kind of interview, this is
5:11
Speaker 1: a big deal for a field producer, for sure. The
5:16
Speaker 1: pr said she needed to talk to Andrew's private secretary,
5:19
Speaker 1: Amanda Thirsk, and she'd be back in touch. It was
5:22
Speaker 1: the first time I'd heard Amanda's name, and I immediately
5:25
Speaker 1: googled her. Now, Amanda Thirsk was basically Prince Andrew's handler
5:30
Speaker 1: for years until this Newsnight interview. Once this interview happened,
5:34
Speaker 1: Amanda Thirsk was jettison to the wayside. She sounded suitably impressive,
5:41
Speaker 1: a woman who had worked for the Prince for seven years,
5:44
Speaker 1: but who'd previously been a banker in the city. The
5:47
Speaker 1: picture that emerged after talking to a couple of friends
5:50
Speaker 1: was someone formidable, clever, thorough and fiercely loyal to Prince Andrew.
5:57
Speaker 1: Shortly afterwards, I was invited to meet Amanda at Buckingham Palace.
6:02
Speaker 1: I'm not going to lie. I was excited to go,
6:04
Speaker 1: but at this stage I wasn't hopeful about landing an interview. Now, look,
6:08
Speaker 1: I get it. That has to be a pretty exciting
6:10
Speaker 1: thing to be invited to Buckingham Palace, just like getting
6:13
Speaker 1: invited to the White House has to be a pretty
6:15
Speaker 1: exciting thing. But when you're going there for this kind
6:20
Speaker 1: of interview, yeah, I'm pretty sure that puts a damper
6:23
Speaker 1: on all of the excitement. As far as I knew,
6:27
Speaker 1: no member of the Royal family had ever been on Newsnight,
6:30
Speaker 1: We had no connections in the palace. It was rare
6:33
Speaker 1: to even do a royal story. Why on earth would
6:36
Speaker 1: Prince Andrew want to talk to us, My guess is
6:40
Speaker 1: it has to do with the fact that you never
6:42
Speaker 1: do royal stories. He wanted it to appear that it
6:45
Speaker 1: was a neutral outlet doing the story on him, but
6:48
Speaker 1: it really boomeranged right. The rubber band effect for Prince
6:52
Speaker 1: Andrew was pretty brutal. Here. All I could see was
6:56
Speaker 1: a load of armed police at an open gate and
6:58
Speaker 1: couldn't believe anyone and just walked into Buckingham Palace that way.
7:02
Speaker 1: But that's exactly what happened. They looked me up on
7:05
Speaker 1: a list, took my ID and rang through to someone
7:07
Speaker 1: who sanctioned my entry. The sea of police and guns
7:11
Speaker 1: parted and I began the long walk to the palace door. Yeah,
7:14
Speaker 1: how many massage therapists have made the same walk going
7:17
Speaker 1: to see Uncle Touchy in the middle of the night.
7:21
Speaker 1: The hundreds of tourists stacked up against the gates stared
7:24
Speaker 1: as I traped across the cobbles, somewhat impeded by a
7:27
Speaker 1: perilously high pair of knee high golden hieled Kurt Geiger boots.
7:32
Speaker 1: I have no idea what those are, but my guess
7:34
Speaker 1: is they're not that comfortable. I was directed to a
7:37
Speaker 1: modest waiting room that featured a tiny marble mantlepiece with
7:41
Speaker 1: a large gilt mirror and a loudly ticking wooden clock.
7:45
Speaker 1: On a little table sat a frame picture of Her
7:47
Speaker 1: Majesty in a yellow jacket and a hat. Sounds like
7:51
Speaker 1: you know when you have a grandma that you go
7:52
Speaker 1: visit and she has like an antique room that you're
7:55
Speaker 1: not supposed to go into. Sounds like where this lady
7:57
Speaker 1: ended up. Feeling daring, I picked up the black frame.
8:00
Speaker 1: It wasn't heavy. It looked like a cheap wooden frame
8:03
Speaker 1: from Ikea. As I sat there, I could hear the
8:06
Speaker 1: staff chattering about some royal visit to Sansbury and watched
8:10
Speaker 1: as a soldier came in, removed his huge bearskin cap
8:14
Speaker 1: and talked for a moment about the day. Then two
8:16
Speaker 1: prs arrived and we were taken upstairs in old fashioned lifts,
8:21
Speaker 1: past huge busts of former kings and queens and through
8:24
Speaker 1: swaths of empty corridors. Amanda's office was a small room
8:28
Speaker 1: peppered with pictures of Prince Andrew and his family. Now,
8:32
Speaker 1: if anyone could be considered a confidant of Prince Andrew,
8:36
Speaker 1: it was Amanda Thirsk for all of these years, and
8:39
Speaker 1: the fact that he let her go the way he
8:41
Speaker 1: did it tells you everything you need to know about
8:44
Speaker 1: the disaster that was this interview, and she played a
8:48
Speaker 1: gigantic part in setting it all up and okaying it.
8:51
Speaker 1: So somebody had to be the fall person here, and
8:54
Speaker 1: it ended up being Amanda. She was exactly as I expected,
8:59
Speaker 1: impeccable manners, thorough and direct, not a hair out of place.
9:04
Speaker 1: We talked for two hours and agreed that the interview
9:06
Speaker 1: would encompass everything from Brexit to the future of the monarchy,
9:10
Speaker 1: as well as any other relevant issues that arose. Then
9:14
Speaker 1: a man just said there was just one red line.
9:17
Speaker 1: We couldn't talk about the issue of Andrew's friendship with Epstein.
9:21
Speaker 1: My heart sank. Oh. I wonder why you can't talk
9:24
Speaker 1: about that. Why is that a no go zone? Could
9:28
Speaker 1: it have something to do with the fact that Andrew
9:30
Speaker 1: knee deep in all of this, had his stupid ass
9:33
Speaker 1: nose involved in all of it, and not only that,
9:36
Speaker 1: as we all know, allegedly abused Virginia. So yeah, probably
9:41
Speaker 1: not a topic that he wants to bring up. Back then,
9:45
Speaker 1: Jeffrey Epstein wasn't a name that rang bells for a
9:48
Speaker 1: lot of people, even so I knew we had to
9:51
Speaker 1: decline the interview. This was in May twenty nineteen. Eight
9:56
Speaker 1: weeks later, Epstein was arrested. Twelve weeks later, he was dead.
10:00
Speaker 1: The full scale of his criminal behavior was coming into
10:03
Speaker 1: sharp focus, and Virginia Roberts and other survivors had started
10:07
Speaker 1: to speak. They'd been speaking a little bit earlier than that,
10:10
Speaker 1: but the essence of this is correct. And remember when
10:13
Speaker 1: the survivors took their story to social media. To you,
10:17
Speaker 1: that's when things started to really move in this direction,
10:20
Speaker 1: the direction of at least people being held accountable in
10:23
Speaker 1: some degree. Twenty weeks on I managed to persuade Amanda
10:30
Speaker 1: that Prince Andrew's position of silence in the face of
10:32
Speaker 1: global scrutiny was untenable. Twelve long days later came the
10:37
Speaker 1: email we had all hoped for. It arrived from Amanda
10:41
Speaker 1: early on a Saturday morning, November ninth. Could presenter Emily
10:45
Speaker 1: Maitliss our deputy editor Stuart and I come to the
10:48
Speaker 1: palace in two days. Prince Andrew wanted to meet us,
10:52
Speaker 1: so that got to be pretty exciting. Got all of
10:55
Speaker 1: this going on, the situation with Epstein blooming once again,
10:59
Speaker 1: and and as a field producer, this is your this
11:02
Speaker 1: is your day here right, this is your mia culpa. Monday,
11:06
Speaker 1: November eleventh, twenty nineteen morning. Prince Andrew's voice was upbeat
11:12
Speaker 1: as he came into Amanda's room. He was smiling, He
11:15
Speaker 1: seemed friendly. I hope you don't mind, but I brought
11:18
Speaker 1: someone with me. We exchanged glances.
11:20
Speaker 2: Who could it be a lawyer?
11:22
Speaker 1: Maybe someone from the Queen's staff, And then from behind
11:25
Speaker 1: him came Princess Beatrice. To be frank, the only thing
11:29
Speaker 1: worse than speaking to a prospective interviewee about allegations of
11:33
Speaker 1: sexual impropriety and sex with a seventeen year old girl
11:37
Speaker 1: is having to do so in front of his daughter.
11:40
Speaker 1: What sort of buffoon brings their daughter to this conversation.
11:43
Speaker 1: I know you're trying to use her as a set
11:45
Speaker 1: piece to give you an easier time of it, but bro,
11:49
Speaker 1: this is horrible. The idea is to protect your children,
11:52
Speaker 1: to insulate them from your bullshit. That's what a real
11:55
Speaker 1: man does. But I guess we should have never expected
11:57
Speaker 1: that from a punk bitch like pray It's Andrew. Princess
12:02
Speaker 1: Beatrice was polite and engaged, but unlike her father, she
12:06
Speaker 1: was evidently anxious about the meeting and clearly there to
12:09
Speaker 1: protect his interests. I'd heard she was close to the queen.
12:12
Speaker 1: She was close to the queen. The prince's eldest daughter
12:15
Speaker 1: was now I felt, the person who can make the
12:18
Speaker 1: difference between us getting the interview or not. Well probably correct, right,
12:23
Speaker 1: Who has more sway on their dad than a daughter.
12:29
Speaker 1: We all sat down, cramped into that tiny room, a
12:32
Speaker 1: few feet from one another. What was most surprising was
12:35
Speaker 1: there was never any attempt to find out what we'd
12:38
Speaker 1: ask or to place conditions on the questions. And that
12:42
Speaker 1: is very surprising. Honestly, Usually these questions have to be
12:47
Speaker 1: very well tailored for bozos like Andrew or else they
12:50
Speaker 1: have a train wreck like we saw here, but they
12:53
Speaker 1: weren't holding the you know, the defensible ground. Andrew and company.
13:00
Speaker 1: They reached out for this interview because they knew they
13:02
Speaker 1: had to try and do damage control, But what really
13:05
Speaker 1: happened was even more damage. For his part, the Prince
13:12
Speaker 1: revealed for the first time that he supposedly had an alibi.
13:15
Speaker 1: He told us about Pizza Express a children's party. He
13:19
Speaker 1: mentioned his sweating, or lack thereof. He talked about how
13:22
Speaker 1: recently he'd seen Glene Maxwell, Epstein's procurer of underage girls,
13:27
Speaker 1: co conspirator, general all around scusbag, you know, fellow child
13:31
Speaker 1: abuser and bipedal serpent. I think that's what they meant.
13:34
Speaker 1: He'd admitted he'd made errors of judgment. It was raw
13:37
Speaker 1: jaw dropping stuff. Yeah, errors of judgment.
13:40
Speaker 2: Huh?
13:40
Speaker 1: How about errors of everything you've ever done in your life?
13:44
Speaker 1: And then he said something I'll never forget. As we
13:48
Speaker 1: conclude it, he turned to Princess Beatrice and said they
13:51
Speaker 1: had a lot to discuss and should go straight after
13:54
Speaker 1: upstairs to talk about it over a cup of tea
13:57
Speaker 1: with mum. For a split second, I almost scoffed, What
14:01
Speaker 1: on earth did a grown man need to talk to
14:03
Speaker 1: his mum for? And then it hit me, mum was
14:07
Speaker 1: the Queen. Well, I get it. I'd want to talk
14:09
Speaker 1: to my mom probably too, She's one of my best confidants.
14:13
Speaker 1: But in a situation like this, being you know, the
14:16
Speaker 1: Prince of England, you should probably wait to say that
14:19
Speaker 1: until afterwards. You don't need people to know that. Oh,
14:21
Speaker 1: I'm gonna go run the mom and get some advice.
14:27
Speaker 1: Less than twenty four hours later, he agreed to the interview.
14:30
Speaker 1: I felt I wouldn't really believe it until those cameras
14:33
Speaker 1: started rolling, but I wouldn't have to wait long. This
14:36
Speaker 1: was on Tuesday, November twelfth, twenty nineteen. In just two days,
14:40
Speaker 1: we would all find ourselves back inside Buckingham Palace, face
14:44
Speaker 1: to face with Prince Andrew again, conducting what turned out
14:48
Speaker 1: to be an interview more shocking than any of us
14:51
Speaker 1: could have ever predicted. I remember listening to it live
14:54
Speaker 1: as it was happening, watching the live coverage of it,
14:59
Speaker 1: and I was blow away for the whole entire thing
15:01
Speaker 1: pretty much, I mean, like the whole entire ass interview.
15:04
Speaker 2: I was just shaking my head like who let this
15:06
Speaker 2: guy do this? Who? Who approved this?
15:12
Speaker 1: I mean, you would have to think that everybody in
15:14
Speaker 1: the Palace knows what a bozo Prince Andrew is and
15:17
Speaker 1: approving an interview like this would end up in disaster.
15:21
Speaker 1: All right, folks, that's gonna end part one here and
15:24
Speaker 1: we'll be right back with part number two in our
15:27
Speaker 1: next update. If you'd like to contact me, you can
15:30
Speaker 1: do that at Bobby Kapuchi at ProtonMail dot com. That's
15:34
Speaker 1: bo bb y c ap you Cci at ProtonMail dot com.
15:40
Speaker 1: You can also find me on Twitter at bo bb
15:43
Speaker 1: y underscore c ap you Cci.
15:46
Speaker 2: All right, folks, we'll be right back with part two.
15:50
Speaker 1: What's up everyone, and welcome back to the Epstein Chronicles
15:54
Speaker 1: and now the conclusion of the interview with Prince Andrew. Thursday,
16:00
Speaker 1: November fourteenth, twenty nineteen. Fifteen feet that's how far away
16:06
Speaker 1: I am from the back of Andrew's chair. I can
16:09
Speaker 1: see the soles of his shoes hardly scuffed, and the
16:11
Speaker 1: back of his head new haircut, the hem of his
16:14
Speaker 1: trousers a perfectly judged length, and the nervous tapping of
16:17
Speaker 1: his left foot. The chair seems a little small for
16:21
Speaker 1: his body. Yeah, he's a bit of a puff, isn't
16:23
Speaker 1: he not in the greatest shape in the world. And
16:26
Speaker 1: of course he had himself a nice new cut and
16:29
Speaker 1: a pair of shoes that are hardly scuffed. When you're rich,
16:31
Speaker 1: you don't wear the same shit too often. Probably a
16:34
Speaker 1: brand new pair of kicks. My own chair is up
16:38
Speaker 1: against the wall of an opulent room, larger than most
16:41
Speaker 1: London flats. I'm sitting next to a very friendly woman who,
16:45
Speaker 1: seeing how nervous I am, kindly offers me a martini.
16:48
Speaker 1: Imagine that, sitting at work someone offers you a martini
16:51
Speaker 1: to calm you down. Pretty nice job, huh jin With
16:55
Speaker 1: a twist, Her majesty is also a fan. It's one
16:58
Speaker 1: of those exchanges that you can hardly believe is happening.
17:02
Speaker 1: Chatting idly with someone in Buckingham Palace about your monarch's
17:06
Speaker 1: pension for a cocktail. The charming woman is the Prince's equerry.
17:11
Speaker 1: She's certain his interview will clear clear his name, that
17:14
Speaker 1: it's all been a terrible misunderstanding, that after this things
17:19
Speaker 1: will go back to normal. Boy, were they really missing
17:22
Speaker 1: the boat here?
17:23
Speaker 2: Huh.
17:23
Speaker 1: They really thought that Numbnuts was going to get out
17:27
Speaker 1: there and give the performance of a lifetime, and everybody
17:30
Speaker 1: was gonna say, Ah, you know what, He's right, Prince
17:33
Speaker 1: Andrew didn't do any of this. He's an honorable dude,
17:37
Speaker 1: and all of his behavior lines up and all of
17:39
Speaker 1: his receipts check out. The reality is none of that's true.
17:43
Speaker 1: He's not an honorable dude, and none of his receipts
17:46
Speaker 1: checked out. Emily Maitliss is nervous, busying herself with her notes,
17:52
Speaker 1: the result of two days of relentless practice and brainstorms
17:56
Speaker 1: with a small team. Look, it's always nerve racking when
17:59
Speaker 1: you have a big inner to conduct. I'm not somebody
18:02
Speaker 1: who does many interviews, but when you have them and
18:05
Speaker 1: you know you know you have one coming up, there's
18:08
Speaker 1: a lot of work that goes into being prepared for it.
18:10
Speaker 1: If you want to give a good interview anyway, you
18:13
Speaker 1: got to know obviously the topic you're going to talk about,
18:16
Speaker 1: but you have to know about the person that you're
18:18
Speaker 1: talking to, dig into their backstory, where are they from,
18:22
Speaker 1: all of that good stuff. So there's a whole entire
18:25
Speaker 1: thing that goes along with preparing for interviews and preparing
18:29
Speaker 1: for one like this, it definitely has to be a
18:31
Speaker 1: bit nerve shaking. I feel panic rise within me. We're
18:37
Speaker 1: about to interview a member of the royal family about
18:40
Speaker 1: his connections with a sex trafficker. We're about to ask
18:43
Speaker 1: him on camera whether he had sex with Virginia Roberts,
18:47
Speaker 1: whether he knew about Epstein's terrible acts, and whether he
18:50
Speaker 1: was complicit. Well, it's nice that somebody did it, considering
18:54
Speaker 1: the authorities have never done it, Considering nobody in power
18:56
Speaker 1: has ever done it. It's nice to see that a
18:59
Speaker 1: news organ is a at least stepped up to the
19:01
Speaker 1: plate and got him on record. Apart from the Equerry,
19:06
Speaker 1: Amanda is here with her deputy.
19:08
Speaker 2: That's it.
19:09
Speaker 1: No lawyers, no other royal staff. I'd expected a swarm
19:13
Speaker 1: of people to oversee it all. And I bet if
19:15
Speaker 1: they could go back in time, that's exactly what they
19:18
Speaker 1: would have done. Lawyers everywhere, all kinds of legal counsel
19:22
Speaker 1: to make sure that, you know, things didn't go off
19:26
Speaker 1: the rails. And fortunately for us and unfortunately for him,
19:31
Speaker 1: that's not what happened. A tall white man comes into
19:36
Speaker 1: the room to say hello, he's introduced as Donald McCabe,
19:40
Speaker 1: Communication Secretary to the Queen. His visit is quite significant.
19:44
Speaker 1: It means that the Queen likely knows about the interview. Well, yeah,
19:48
Speaker 1: there's no way that this interview happens without the Queen's
19:51
Speaker 1: go ahead. Prince Andrew's a dunce and a nonce and
19:54
Speaker 1: the rest of it. But the Queen's still going to
19:57
Speaker 1: make the decisions if the interview happens or not. After
20:04
Speaker 1: speaking to a couple of people, he leaves afterwards. This
20:08
Speaker 1: seems a missed opportunity. If he'd stayed, he'd have known
20:12
Speaker 1: the contents of the interview firsthand. Perhaps he would have
20:16
Speaker 1: realized how terribly this would play out for Andrew, for
20:18
Speaker 1: the Palace, for the monarchy, and it was terrible. Look,
20:23
Speaker 1: here's the thing. People haven't just come up with a
20:26
Speaker 1: reason to hate on Prince Andrew. The dudes a moron.
20:30
Speaker 1: He doesn't represent the people of England, well, he doesn't
20:32
Speaker 1: represent his family well, and in fact, he doesn't represent humanity.
20:36
Speaker 2: Well.
20:37
Speaker 1: So I don't know why they wouldn't have somebody there
20:40
Speaker 1: to monitor what this idiot was doing. Perhaps they would
20:47
Speaker 1: have had more time to prepare a response. Damage limitation
20:50
Speaker 1: of some kind as it was the first time mackab
20:53
Speaker 1: would have seen The interview was more than forty eight
20:56
Speaker 1: hours later, alongside the entire nation. As I wait for
21:00
Speaker 1: the cameras and lighting to be set up, the Equerry
21:03
Speaker 1: tells me that the same room will be used after
21:06
Speaker 1: the interview for Palace for the Palace Cinema Night. When
21:09
Speaker 1: we leave, members of the Royal household will congregate to
21:12
Speaker 1: watch a film and maybe eat popcorn. Maybe eat popcorn?
21:16
Speaker 1: What is popcorn not allowed to the Royal family? Isn't
21:19
Speaker 1: that like a staple? If it's movie night, you guys
21:21
Speaker 1: are gonna have the big screen going and popcorn some snacks.
21:27
Speaker 1: Prince Andrew suddenly appears and makes his way over to
21:30
Speaker 1: talk to me. He's friendly and chatty. We discuss cinema
21:34
Speaker 1: night and he opens the doors at the end of
21:36
Speaker 1: the room to reveal the projector. Turns out this evening
21:39
Speaker 1: they're showing a renee Zellwigger film Judy Have I seen it?
21:44
Speaker 1: We chat a little bit about Judy Garland, the weather
21:47
Speaker 1: floods in Green Park, and then he moves on to
21:50
Speaker 1: the crew, making suggestions about microphones and other technicalities. Oh so,
21:55
Speaker 1: all of a sudden. The guy's a world traveled front
21:58
Speaker 1: of house technician, monitor engineer. Now he knows about microphones.
22:03
Speaker 1: Dude wouldn't know about a microphone if one blasted him
22:05
Speaker 1: straight across his face. Twenty minutes later, we're ready to go.
22:10
Speaker 1: A Mandel settles herself near Andrew, sitting on the floor,
22:14
Speaker 1: notebook in her hand. Emily nods. The cameras are rolling
22:19
Speaker 1: and we're off and well, it is the beginning of
22:21
Speaker 1: the end for Prince Andrew, isn't it? This interview was
22:25
Speaker 1: the death knull for him. When this interview cracked off
22:28
Speaker 1: and everybody heard from his mouth how much of a
22:31
Speaker 1: tool he is, that was the beginning of the end.
22:35
Speaker 1: The first question Emily asks, why he's decided to talk
22:39
Speaker 1: now is the one I get asked the most today.
22:42
Speaker 1: Why take the enormous risk. It's easy to look back
22:45
Speaker 1: now and say that the decision was reckless. But few
22:48
Speaker 1: people imagine their own answers doing them harm. Yeah, few
22:52
Speaker 1: people who didn't do anything. If you're innocent, that's when
22:55
Speaker 1: you come out and give your big speech. But if
22:57
Speaker 1: you're not innocent, you should shut your mouth and call
23:00
Speaker 1: your lawyer. He didn't do that. His Hubris would not
23:04
Speaker 1: allow it. You also have to remember the life Andrew
23:09
Speaker 1: has lived. The second son, always said to be the
23:12
Speaker 1: Queen's favorite, granted extraordinary access and opportunity fond over. The
23:18
Speaker 1: average CEO would have never taken that risk. They'd have
23:21
Speaker 1: calculated one hundred reasons not to take the chance. But
23:24
Speaker 1: Andrew and his people must have thought this hour of
23:27
Speaker 1: his life would change the public perception of him for
23:30
Speaker 1: the better. Well, they were severely mistaken. And do you
23:33
Speaker 1: think it's any surprise that Amanda Thirsk is no longer
23:36
Speaker 1: part of the crew. We don't know for sure, but
23:40
Speaker 1: we assume he's spent the past couple of days in
23:42
Speaker 1: constant rehearsals. Like us, his team must have theorized the questions,
23:47
Speaker 1: decided precisely had to deal with the more serious allegations, considered,
23:52
Speaker 1: body language and tone, deliberated exactly if or how he
23:57
Speaker 1: might apologize. His answer to Emily's questions, he simply reminds
24:02
Speaker 1: us that his people have been talking to Newsnight for
24:05
Speaker 1: six months and actually it's a very good opportunity. Look,
24:10
Speaker 1: his body language was bad, his answers were bad, his
24:13
Speaker 1: posture was bad, and in fact, everything about him is bad.
24:19
Speaker 1: After that, Emily gave a masterclass in calm, methodical analytical interviewing.
24:25
Speaker 1: The interview is now used across the world by pr
24:28
Speaker 1: and communications professionals and by people in crisis management as
24:32
Speaker 1: a shining example of what answers not to give when
24:36
Speaker 1: you're dealing with controversy. Imagine being the case study. The
24:40
Speaker 1: Prince of England could have done anything in his life,
24:42
Speaker 1: but instead his legacy is going to be the case
24:44
Speaker 1: study of what not to do when giving an interview.
24:47
Speaker 2: Imagine that.
24:49
Speaker 1: Enjoy your legacy, Prince of Nothing, the Joe exotic of
24:52
Speaker 1: the Windsor family. I'd assumed Andrew would distance himself from Epstein,
24:58
Speaker 1: condemn him outright, and diminish their shared history. Instead, it
25:02
Speaker 1: sounded like they were close friends, and worse, the Prince
25:06
Speaker 1: even admired him. Imagine and that was certainly the tone
25:10
Speaker 1: that came off. If you haven't seen this interview yet,
25:12
Speaker 1: you should definitely go and check it out because it
25:15
Speaker 1: tells you a lot about Prince Andrew, and it tells
25:18
Speaker 1: you a lot about the kind of person he is. Instead,
25:22
Speaker 1: it sounded like they were close friends, and worse that
25:25
Speaker 1: the Prince even admired him. What followed was one astonishing
25:30
Speaker 1: answer after another. Each time I thought it couldn't get
25:33
Speaker 1: any worse, it did. The answer showed how totally removed
25:36
Speaker 1: the Prince was from the reality of an average life.
25:41
Speaker 1: All of these people are completely removed from what the
25:45
Speaker 1: rest of us have to deal with on a regular basis,
25:48
Speaker 1: just to maintain they have no idea about any of it.
25:54
Speaker 1: Had he been on Epstein's private plane, yes. Had he
25:57
Speaker 1: stayed on his private island, yes. Had he stayed at
26:01
Speaker 1: his home in Palm Beach Yes. Had he visited Glaine
26:04
Speaker 1: Maxwell's London home, Yes. Was Epstein at Princess Beatrice's eighteenth
26:08
Speaker 1: birthday party at Windsor Castle, Yes. So all of those
26:12
Speaker 1: affirmatives shows you right away the groundwork for the relationship,
26:16
Speaker 1: how tight they were, how close they were, And the
26:18
Speaker 1: fact that Prince Andrew allegedly was at Epstein's townhouse when
26:23
Speaker 1: Carolyn was raped again tells you what you need to know.
26:27
Speaker 1: This dude needs to speak to the FBI, He needs
26:29
Speaker 1: to speak to the authorities, but Willie probably not. In
26:34
Speaker 1: two thousand and eight, Epstein was jailed for soliciting and
26:37
Speaker 1: procuring a minor for prostitution that cannot even occur. A
26:41
Speaker 1: prostitute cannot be a minor because miners cannot consent. This
26:45
Speaker 1: is child abuse and the rape of a child. That's
26:47
Speaker 1: what it is. Andrew said that they had no contact
26:51
Speaker 1: during that time, but Emily had the killer blow within
26:55
Speaker 1: months of his release. You went to stay with him
26:57
Speaker 1: at his New York mansion. Why why were you staying
27:00
Speaker 1: with a convicted sex offender? Andrew replied, I went there
27:04
Speaker 1: with the sole purpose of saying to him that because
27:06
Speaker 1: he had been convicted, it was inappropriate for us to
27:09
Speaker 1: be seen together. I felt that doing it over the
27:12
Speaker 1: phone was the chickens way of doing it. So you're
27:15
Speaker 1: not a chicken when it comes to breaking up with
27:17
Speaker 1: your bff, Jeffrey Epstein. You'll fly, I mean three thousand
27:21
Speaker 1: miles five hours over the pond to do it, and
27:23
Speaker 1: then stay the night at his house, but you won't
27:26
Speaker 1: even speak to the FBI over the phone. A dramatic
27:29
Speaker 1: credulous was he saying it was the right thing to
27:32
Speaker 1: do to spend four days at the home of a
27:34
Speaker 1: convicted sex offender, that it was somehow honorable. Emily persisted,
27:39
Speaker 1: do you regret the whole friendship with Epstein? Andrew should
27:42
Speaker 1: have bitten her hand off for the chance to say
27:45
Speaker 1: quite simply yes. Instead he said, now still not. And
27:49
Speaker 1: the reason being is that the people I met and
27:52
Speaker 1: the opportunities I was given to learn, either by him
27:55
Speaker 1: or because of him, were actually very useful. Imagine saying this,
28:00
Speaker 1: and all of these girls, two hundred and twenty five
28:02
Speaker 1: of them got money from the estate, by the way,
28:05
Speaker 1: and we know there's a lot more than that, But
28:07
Speaker 1: can you imagine saying that, knowing that all of these
28:09
Speaker 1: girls were abused and raped by this guy. I remember
28:14
Speaker 1: having to look down just so I could roll my eyes.
28:18
Speaker 1: He had no recollection of meeting Virginia Roberts or of
28:21
Speaker 1: having his hand around her waist in the infamous photograph
28:24
Speaker 1: taken on the night she claimed he had sex with
28:27
Speaker 1: her as a royal. He said he wouldn't have been
28:30
Speaker 1: physically close to someone like that as a royal. Shut up, dude.
28:34
Speaker 1: In fact, nobody wants to be that close to you.
28:38
Speaker 1: Out cam is now notorious. Alibis that he was at
28:41
Speaker 1: the Pizza Express and Woking that day that Virginia's recollection
28:45
Speaker 1: of him sweating on the dance floor at Tramp nightclub
28:48
Speaker 1: couldn't be true because he'd lost the ability to sweat. Funny, how,
28:52
Speaker 1: there's a bunch of pictures of him sweating his ass
28:55
Speaker 1: through all of those shirts. Though, huh, has this guy
28:57
Speaker 1: done anything but lie throughout this whole entire time? As
29:02
Speaker 1: a former criminal barista, I knew the answers were a
29:06
Speaker 1: future defense lawyer's nightmare. I realized for the first time
29:09
Speaker 1: that Andrew couldn't have taken legal advice before speaking to us.
29:13
Speaker 1: It just got worse and worse. He couldn't have had
29:16
Speaker 1: sex with Virginia, he said, because sex for a man
29:19
Speaker 1: is a sort of positive action which is very difficult
29:22
Speaker 1: to forget. Was this a royal euphemism for penetration? I mean,
29:26
Speaker 1: imagine having such an overblown opinion of yourself that you
29:30
Speaker 1: think that because you're a royal, everybody's gonna remember you. Bro,
29:34
Speaker 1: you're a buffoon, okay. In fact, my guess is a
29:37
Speaker 1: lot of the people that you've rolled on top of
29:40
Speaker 1: for the five minutes in your life, they all want
29:42
Speaker 1: to forget you. Emily gave him another chance. I wonder
29:50
Speaker 1: if you have any sense of guilt, regret, or shame
29:53
Speaker 1: about any of your behavior and your friendship with Epstein.
29:56
Speaker 1: She handed it to him.
29:57
Speaker 2: On a plate.
29:58
Speaker 1: Surely he'd clarify that it it had all been a
30:00
Speaker 1: terrible mistake. I looked up from the floor watched him
30:04
Speaker 1: gather himself for one of the final answers. As far
30:08
Speaker 1: as mister Epstein is concerned, it was the wrong decision
30:11
Speaker 1: to go and see him in twenty ten, As far
30:14
Speaker 1: as my association with him was concerned, it had some
30:18
Speaker 1: seriously beneficial outcomes in areas that have nothing to do
30:21
Speaker 1: with what we're talking about today. Extraordinary that he couldn't
30:25
Speaker 1: see just how terrible that sounded. Emily asked her final question.
30:30
Speaker 1: I mean, this guy is still enamored with Epstein. It
30:32
Speaker 1: seems like here Epstein sure had you wrapped around his finger.
30:36
Speaker 1: What sort of compromot did Epstein have on you, Joe
30:40
Speaker 1: Exotic of the Windsor Family. Is there anything you feel
30:45
Speaker 1: has been left unsaid that you would like to say
30:48
Speaker 1: now a message of regret for the terrible acts of
30:51
Speaker 1: his friend had committed. Perhaps Andrew's chance ebbed the way. No,
30:56
Speaker 1: I didn't. I don't think so. I think you've probably
30:58
Speaker 1: dragged out most of what is required. That was it
31:01
Speaker 1: an interview? More shocking than any of us could ever
31:04
Speaker 1: have predicted. I couldn't look at anyone. I could barely
31:08
Speaker 1: believe his people hadn't stopped the interview. I would have
31:11
Speaker 1: despite the consequences. How'd you think it went?
31:14
Speaker 2: I asked the equerry. She beamed. Wasn't he wonderful?
31:18
Speaker 1: She said, oh, yeah, wonderful if you're blind and deaf
31:21
Speaker 1: and then unable to comprehend things. I'd expected Amanda thirst
31:27
Speaker 1: to be distraught, the Prince to look shaken or concerned,
31:30
Speaker 1: but she was smiling, and he seemed debulent. And then
31:33
Speaker 1: it hit me he actually thought it had gone well.
31:37
Speaker 1: He was in such a good mood that he offered
31:39
Speaker 1: us all a tour of the palace. I couldn't go.
31:41
Speaker 1: I wouldn't have been able to speak to him in
31:43
Speaker 1: good faith. Of course, Emily couldn't decline. I don't know
31:46
Speaker 1: how she kept her composure. I would have went, I
31:49
Speaker 1: just I would have declined and been like, sorry, I'm
31:51
Speaker 1: never I don't even want to talk to you ever again.
31:57
Speaker 1: After the interview was broadcast, everyone agreed it had been
32:00
Speaker 1: an unmitigated disaster for Prince Andrew. The newspapers also lamb
32:05
Speaker 1: based did Amanda Thirsk ridiculing her for letting him do
32:09
Speaker 1: the interview. I found this profoundly disturbing. What she had
32:13
Speaker 1: done was believe in her boss. His own answers had
32:16
Speaker 1: landed him in hot water. She's not wrong about that,
32:19
Speaker 1: you know, Amanda Thirsk. At the end of the day,
32:21
Speaker 1: is just you know, an employee. Prince Andrew's the boss,
32:24
Speaker 1: and he's the one that shited the bed. I also
32:28
Speaker 1: felt strangely protective towards her. We were both doing our
32:31
Speaker 1: jobs to the best of our abilities, and now her
32:34
Speaker 1: professional life lay in tatters. On November twentieth, Prince Andrew
32:39
Speaker 1: announced that he was stepping back from public duties for
32:41
Speaker 1: the foreseeable future. Belatedly, he also expressed sympathy for Epstein's survivors.
32:47
Speaker 1: Belated ly, Huh, his mom probably told him he had
32:50
Speaker 1: to do that. Amanda Thirst stepped back from her role
32:53
Speaker 1: and eventually left. I messaged her offered to meet if
32:57
Speaker 1: she was still so inclined. Meanwhile, Glene Maxwell was charged
33:00
Speaker 1: with eight counts relating to grooming underage girls for Epstein.
33:04
Speaker 1: Calls for Andrew to cooperate with the FBI grew louder
33:08
Speaker 1: and then Just before the twenty fifth anniversary of Martin
33:11
Speaker 1: Basher's Panorama interview with Princess Diana, Earl Spencer went public
33:16
Speaker 1: with allegations against him and the BBC. The interview, he said,
33:20
Speaker 1: had been procured by Martin Basheer after he had told
33:23
Speaker 1: a litany of lives to Diana and showed her forged
33:26
Speaker 1: bank statements. She'd never had agreed to do it otherwise.
33:30
Speaker 1: The more I learned about the allegations, the more appalled.
33:33
Speaker 1: I was a graphic designer who'd blown the whistle on
33:36
Speaker 1: the bank statements, had lost his job. It seemed clear
33:39
Speaker 1: that there had been some kind of cover up. All
33:42
Speaker 1: I could feel was betrayal and anger. For that, among
33:45
Speaker 1: many reasons, I decided I wanted to leave the BBC.
33:48
Speaker 1: Before I left, I finally got to see Amanda Thirsk.
33:51
Speaker 1: She was nothing but gracious and wished me the best.
33:54
Speaker 1: We are still in touch from time to time. Well
33:58
Speaker 1: there you have it, folks. That's gonna conclud fo Part
34:00
Speaker 1: two of how the interview with Prince Andrew with Emily
34:04
Speaker 1: Maitliss was procured. A pretty interesting look behind the scenes
34:09
Speaker 1: at the life of a field producer and how crazy
34:13
Speaker 1: that can be. They're the ones that get these interviews,
34:16
Speaker 1: they're the ones that set all of this up. So
34:18
Speaker 1: they have a very interesting life, there's no doubt about it.
34:21
Speaker 1: And imagine sitting in on this one. So I thought
34:24
Speaker 1: this would be a good ad to the catalog and
34:26
Speaker 1: offer a bit more context and some clarity about how
34:30
Speaker 1: the interview went down. All right, everybody, if you'd like
34:34
Speaker 1: to contact me, you can do that at Bobby Capuchi
34:36
Speaker 1: at ProtonMail dot com. That's bo b b Y c
34:40
Speaker 1: ap you Cci at ProtonMail dot com. You can also
34:45
Speaker 1: find me on Twitter at Bobby Underscore c ap Ucci.
34:51
Speaker 1: The link that I discussed can be found in the
34:53
Speaker 1: description box. What's up everyone, and welcome back to the
34:57
Speaker 1: Epstein Chronicles. So Andrew's dumbass is back in the news
35:02
Speaker 1: and we're hearing from one of his pals, a lawyer
35:06
Speaker 1: who is a defamation lawyer named Paul Tweed, who said
35:09
Speaker 1: he advised Prince Andrew about speaking to BBC and giving
35:13
Speaker 1: that Newsnight interview. He told Prince Andrew that it was
35:17
Speaker 1: an absolutely terrible idea, but like usual, Prince Andrew, well
35:21
Speaker 1: he knows better. The Queen also told him not a
35:24
Speaker 1: great idea, buddy. But of course Andrew thought he was
35:27
Speaker 1: going to get up there and gaslight everybody and tell
35:30
Speaker 1: the whole world that he was an innocent man. And
35:33
Speaker 1: instead it was the opposite reaction, wasn't it. Everybody took
35:37
Speaker 1: a look at that interview and said to themselves, what
35:40
Speaker 1: an absolute ski Vaughts this dude is. He didn't offer
35:44
Speaker 1: any bit of evidence, He didn't offer anything that would
35:47
Speaker 1: change my mind anyway about what we have learned about
35:50
Speaker 1: this dude. And besides a bunch of nonsense coming from
35:53
Speaker 1: surrogates and people around him, there's nobody that's serious that's
35:57
Speaker 1: talking about Prince Andrew making a comeback or anything like that.
36:02
Speaker 1: That's all just fantasyland stuff that his camp floats out there.
36:06
Speaker 1: You know, the four or five people that are still
36:08
Speaker 1: around them, they float that out there and they see
36:10
Speaker 1: what happens. What's the reaction gonna be. But the reality
36:13
Speaker 1: for Prince Andrew is the party is over. He's never
36:16
Speaker 1: coming back. He's never gonna be welcomed back in a
36:20
Speaker 1: polite society, and most certainly not as a representative of
36:24
Speaker 1: the English people. Today, we have an article from the
36:28
Speaker 1: Dailymail dot Com headline I warned Prince Andrew it was
36:32
Speaker 1: a bad idea to agree to the infamous Newsnight interview.
36:35
Speaker 1: Duke of York's lawyer Pal says this article was authored
36:39
Speaker 1: by Vanessa Allen and Claudia Joseph. You have to be
36:43
Speaker 1: one dumbass moron to think doing that interview is a
36:46
Speaker 1: good idea. There was never a point in time when
36:50
Speaker 1: that interview should have even been a thing for Prince Andrew.
36:53
Speaker 1: The answer should have been no, thank you, I'll pass.
36:56
Speaker 1: And if you're innocent, or if Jeffrey Epstein was blackmailing
37:00
Speaker 1: you or something, you should have went to the authorities
37:02
Speaker 1: and sat down with the FBI and spilled the beans.
37:05
Speaker 1: You didn't do anything like that. What you did was
37:08
Speaker 1: you retreated behind your mum's skirts. Prince Andrew was warned
37:13
Speaker 1: it was a bad idea for him to discuss his
37:15
Speaker 1: links with this grace financier pedophile Jeffrey Epstein on News Night.
37:20
Speaker 1: A friend revealed yesterday, lawyer Paul Tweed said he advised
37:24
Speaker 1: the Duke of York again speaking to the BBC about
37:28
Speaker 1: his links with the convicted pedophile, and then told the
37:31
Speaker 1: senior aide is he mad, No way, no, no, no,
37:36
Speaker 1: he said, Andrew ignored his vice and made his mind
37:39
Speaker 1: up to tell his version of events to the broadcaster.
37:43
Speaker 1: And when you have a friend of yours who's a
37:44
Speaker 1: lawyer telling you this, a good lawyer, and you know,
37:47
Speaker 1: not somebody you're paying, but a good lawyer who's just
37:49
Speaker 1: a friend, and they're advising you not to have this
37:52
Speaker 1: conversation on national TV, it's probably a good idea to
37:57
Speaker 1: listen to what they're saying. And if not, well, you
37:59
Speaker 1: only yourself to blame. And Prince Andrew once again has
38:03
Speaker 1: made a cage of his very own design that he's
38:07
Speaker 1: living in. This man has created all of his own problems.
38:10
Speaker 1: Nobody created these problems for him. Nobody told them to
38:14
Speaker 1: palor around with Epstein. Nobody told them to be a
38:17
Speaker 1: general all around dickhead. He chose to do all of that,
38:21
Speaker 1: just like he chose to ignore the good advice of
38:23
Speaker 1: his friend here, Paul Tweed, and do the interview. The
38:27
Speaker 1: disastrous twenty nineteen interview and its fallout effectively ended Andrew's
38:31
Speaker 1: role in public life. The Duke admitted he had visited
38:35
Speaker 1: Epstein shortly after the billionaire financier Pedophiles released from jail
38:40
Speaker 1: for soliciting underage sex and said that was the wrong decision. Yeah,
38:44
Speaker 1: you think the wrong decision. The Prince of England, a
38:48
Speaker 1: prince of the blood, going to hang out with a
38:50
Speaker 1: convicted pedophile, sleeping on his couch, breaking bread with him,
38:55
Speaker 1: and doing lord knows what else. I think it's safe
38:57
Speaker 1: to say that that ranks right up or the top
39:00
Speaker 1: of bad decisions of all time. He said he did
39:04
Speaker 1: not regret his association with Epstein, as it had some
39:08
Speaker 1: seriously beneficial outcomes, and gave no apology to Epstein's victims.
39:13
Speaker 2: No, he didn't.
39:14
Speaker 1: He sat there and acted like he was being victimized
39:17
Speaker 1: or something like he was being wrongfully targeted. Bro, everything
39:22
Speaker 1: you did with your boy Epstein, everything you did with
39:26
Speaker 1: all of the other undesirable scumbags you were hanging out with,
39:30
Speaker 1: you have to know at some point was gonna come
39:32
Speaker 1: home and those chickens were gonna roost. But when you're
39:36
Speaker 1: somebody like Prince Andrew and you have these kinds of
39:39
Speaker 1: narcissistic traits, you don't see that for what it is.
39:42
Speaker 1: You don't see that there's a problem with what you're doing,
39:45
Speaker 1: because guess what, you could never be wrong, right, You're
39:49
Speaker 1: always in the right on Prince Andrew. I've never been reprimanded,
39:53
Speaker 1: I've never been punished, I've never been told no, So
39:56
Speaker 1: why should I be told no now? And that's the
39:59
Speaker 1: way Prince Andrew has always lived his life. And thankfully
40:03
Speaker 1: he had a nice dose of reality during this interview
40:07
Speaker 1: when basically a bucket of cold ass water was dumped
40:11
Speaker 1: on his head and he was told it was time
40:13
Speaker 1: to wake up. But unfortunately he seems to still be
40:16
Speaker 1: sleepwalking through life. The interview is now at the center
40:20
Speaker 1: of a two part Channel four documentary, Andrew the Problem Prints.
40:25
Speaker 1: The program includes insights from the Newsnight team which filmed
40:29
Speaker 1: the interview, journalist Emily Maitliss, and producer Sam McAllister lawyers
40:34
Speaker 1: for one of the Epstein survivors and Andrew's friends. Mister Tweed,
40:39
Speaker 1: a defamation lawyer and long standing friend of the duke,
40:42
Speaker 1: said he was told about the plans for an interview
40:45
Speaker 1: a month before it was filmed. Speaking to Andrew as
40:49
Speaker 1: a friend, he said, look, that would not be a
40:52
Speaker 1: good idea, sir. He then got a call from Andrew's
40:55
Speaker 1: then chief of staff, Amanda Thirsk, saying the Duke had
40:58
Speaker 1: decided to do the inn. And we know that Amanda
41:01
Speaker 1: Thirst lost her job as well. She's no longer working
41:05
Speaker 1: with the Prince. Who the hell knows what she's up to,
41:07
Speaker 1: but she got canned in the end as well. Anybody
41:10
Speaker 1: who was okay with Andrew doing this interview should be
41:14
Speaker 1: fired and look, like the rest of you, I'm over
41:18
Speaker 1: the moon that he did it. Anytime one of these
41:20
Speaker 1: clowns wants to get on TV, open their big fat
41:23
Speaker 1: yapps and expose themselves, I'm all for it. But as
41:26
Speaker 1: far as he's concerned, and as far as his camp
41:29
Speaker 1: is concerned, oh, I'm sure there were many nights of
41:32
Speaker 1: people staying up with Adjeda freaking out that this idiot
41:36
Speaker 1: was going to do this interview. And when you have
41:38
Speaker 1: a good friend of yours like Paul Tweed telling you, bro,
41:42
Speaker 1: you're making a big mistake, you should probably listen, mister
41:47
Speaker 1: Tweed told the Channel four documentary. I said, is he mad?
41:50
Speaker 1: No way, no, no, no, that's a bad idea. You
41:54
Speaker 1: should not do it. Amanda just said, look, Paul, I've
41:58
Speaker 1: got to go. I'll call you later. The phone was
42:00
Speaker 1: put down abruptly and that was it. So instead of
42:03
Speaker 1: taking the advice of his lawyer friend, mister Tweed. Here,
42:07
Speaker 1: he's taking the advice of all of the yes men
42:10
Speaker 1: that are around him. And that's the biggest problem when
42:13
Speaker 1: you're surrounded by yes men and nobody has the courage
42:16
Speaker 1: to ever say to you. Look, you're acting out of line,
42:18
Speaker 1: you're talking out of the side of your neck, you're
42:20
Speaker 1: being stupid. Well you're just gonna go on and continue
42:23
Speaker 1: to be stupid. And you know what they say, right,
42:26
Speaker 1: play stupid games and you win stupid prizes. And Prince
42:31
Speaker 1: Andrew is the king of winning stupid prizes. So obviously
42:35
Speaker 1: the Duke, for better or for worse, had made up
42:37
Speaker 1: his mind he was going to do it. The Duke
42:40
Speaker 1: made that decision on his own, against most advice. Mister
42:44
Speaker 1: Tweed said Andrew was a very decent, straightforward individual, but
42:48
Speaker 1: believes he had been very naive in his dealings with Epstein. Oh,
42:52
Speaker 1: give me a break. It's always naive. This naive, that
42:55
Speaker 1: Vafon Goul naive. He knew what he was doing, and
42:58
Speaker 1: he chose to chill with Epstein even when Epstein was outed.
43:01
Speaker 1: So I don't want to hear shit about Oh he's naive.
43:03
Speaker 1: He didn't know who Epstein was he didn't know what
43:06
Speaker 1: Epstein was up to. Everybody knew. He said the relationship
43:11
Speaker 1: was totally ill judged, totally inappropriate, and he believed Epstein
43:15
Speaker 1: had set up a notorious photo of himself with the
43:18
Speaker 1: Duke in New York Central Park in twenty ten. We
43:22
Speaker 1: know that's not true either. We've heard from the photographers
43:25
Speaker 1: who took the photo, who said they just happened to
43:28
Speaker 1: see this situation unfolding and were in the right place
43:31
Speaker 1: at the right time Andrew's camp, though they floated the
43:34
Speaker 1: idea that this was all a setup. Epstein had served
43:38
Speaker 1: an eighteen month sentence for soliciting sex from an underage
43:41
Speaker 1: girl in Florida and had been released from prison just
43:44
Speaker 1: months before Andrew visited him in New York. He was
43:48
Speaker 1: later found dead in his prison cell in twenty nineteen
43:51
Speaker 1: while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. So your boy
43:55
Speaker 1: gets out of jail right for sex offense crimes, and
43:58
Speaker 1: then you the Prince of England and decide you're gonna
44:01
Speaker 1: fly across the pond and go stay at his house,
44:04
Speaker 1: and then you're gonna tell us you did all of
44:05
Speaker 1: that because you wanted to tell him. You didn't want
44:08
Speaker 1: to be friends anymore. That's your story, that's the narrative
44:11
Speaker 1: you're sticking to. No wonder your friends didn't want you
44:15
Speaker 1: to do that interview. Mister Tweed, who has represented Andrew's
44:19
Speaker 1: ex wife Sarah Ferguson in civil litigation, said the effect
44:23
Speaker 1: of the Newsnight interview on the Duke and his family
44:26
Speaker 1: has been horrendous, but believed he could return to public life,
44:29
Speaker 1: saying I would never say never. In any case, Well
44:33
Speaker 1: must be smoking mushrooms, because there's no way Prince Andrew
44:37
Speaker 1: is ever coming back to public life, unless, of course,
44:40
Speaker 1: he provides some evidence that shows that his accuser is
44:44
Speaker 1: not telling the truth. You have that evidence, let's see it.
44:47
Speaker 1: But until you can provide something as far as evidence
44:50
Speaker 1: is concerned, shut up and go back to the stable
44:53
Speaker 1: and muck the shit. In the Newsnight interview, Andrew denied
44:58
Speaker 1: claims from one of the VP's survivors, Virginia Roberts, that
45:02
Speaker 1: she was trafficked to have sex with them in two
45:04
Speaker 1: thousand and one when she was seventeen. He told Miss
45:08
Speaker 1: Maitliss he did not remember meeting miss Roberts, and he
45:12
Speaker 1: was at a birthday party at a pizza Express and
45:14
Speaker 1: Woking on the day she said that they met him
45:18
Speaker 1: going to a pizza Express and Woking is like Bill
45:21
Speaker 1: Clinton going to your local pizza hut. It's not going
45:24
Speaker 1: to happen. He also denied her recollection of him sweating
45:28
Speaker 1: heavily as they danced at a nightclub in central London,
45:31
Speaker 1: and insisted he had been unable to sweat after an
45:34
Speaker 1: adrenaline overdose during the Falklands War. Meanwhile, there's tons of
45:39
Speaker 1: pictures of dumb dumb over here sweating through his shirt.
45:43
Speaker 1: Andrew Peter reported nine point six million pounds settlement to
45:47
Speaker 1: Miss Roberts after she launched the civil lawsuit in New
45:50
Speaker 1: York accusing him of sexual abuse, although he continues to
45:54
Speaker 1: deny any wrongdoing. Miss Roberts lawyer Sigared macauley said the
45:59
Speaker 1: Newsnight Inner, you gave her a roadmap to tear them
46:02
Speaker 1: apart in the civil claim one hundred percent.
46:05
Speaker 2: Again.
46:06
Speaker 1: I've said it from the beginning and I'll continue to
46:08
Speaker 1: say it, folks. Prince Andrew is his own worst enemy,
46:14
Speaker 1: all right, folks. That's gonna do it for this one.
46:16
Speaker 1: All of the information that goes with the episode can
46:19
Speaker 1: be found in the description box
