- 0:02Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Catch twenty two podcasts with Evan
- 0:05Speaker 1: Lazar and Alex bar Bazar and Lazarre. Hello, everybody nailed it.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Joined us always by our bark. Here is Evan Lazar
- 0:18Speaker 1: and Alex Bars. This is Evan Lazar Alex Barthas behind
- 0:25Speaker 1: the Glass Patriots Cash twenty two pre recorded version. This
- 0:29Speaker 1: is not live. Do not call in, do not don't
- 0:33Speaker 1: expect this to be live. It is not live.
- 0:36Speaker 2: And I think I'm technically on ninety five right now.
- 0:40Speaker 1: You're technically on ninety five while this is happening. We're
- 0:43Speaker 1: wearing the same clothes that we were wearing on the
- 0:45Speaker 1: last show because we're recording this on the same day
- 0:47Speaker 1: as the last show.
- 0:48Speaker 2: I'm on two to six, so tune in after.
- 0:50Speaker 1: So this is July one that we're recording this today.
- 0:53Speaker 1: So if the Patriots have extended Christian Gonzalez or signed
- 0:58Speaker 1: gay back Is to his Ricky contract, or done any
- 1:01Speaker 1: other business in the next week, we just wasted half. Yep,
- 1:05Speaker 1: we did not know about it yet. So just putting
- 1:08Speaker 1: all those caveats out there, we're not live, and if
- 1:11Speaker 1: there's any breaking news between when this show was recorded
- 1:14Speaker 1: and when it's airing.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Then.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Sorry, we did not know that that was gonna happen.
- 1:18Speaker 1: But what we do know is that we asked you
- 1:21Speaker 1: guys to participate. Was some Twitter mail bag questions. I
- 1:25Speaker 1: got a bunch of questions here, Alex that we're going
- 1:27Speaker 1: to rifle THROUGHIP. I appreciate everybody's participation in this to
- 1:33Speaker 1: get us going here, but some really good questions from
- 1:36Speaker 1: the listeners. So we're gonna do a mail bag with
- 1:38Speaker 1: all of you guys, and hopefully that fills the void
- 1:41Speaker 1: of Catch twenty two until I get back going to
- 1:45Speaker 1: mark this vineyard for a week and very excited about
- 1:49Speaker 1: that recharge right before a training camp because, believe it
- 1:52Speaker 1: or not, in this one quick aside and then we'll
- 1:54Speaker 1: get started. You don't we worked a Super Bowl, I
- 1:58Speaker 1: guess in twenty eighteen, Alex, is a long time ago,
- 2:01Speaker 1: though it feels like the off season just moved so
- 2:04Speaker 1: much quicker with the Patriots playing all the way through
- 2:08Speaker 1: the beginning of February. All of a sudden, I woke
- 2:10Speaker 1: up and it was three weeks before training camp and
- 2:13Speaker 1: it's July and we're inside a month of training camp.
- 2:15Speaker 1: So that's pretty remarkable how fast it moved. Let's get
- 2:19Speaker 1: to your question. So this is from Robbie Ben's multiple
- 2:23Speaker 1: Z's there again, besides Drake May, which three injuries would
- 2:28Speaker 1: hurt the Patriots season the most? So shout out to
- 2:32Speaker 1: Dave damashek is his Jenga tower theory. Yeah, each player
- 2:36Speaker 1: has a Djenga piece. Some are bigger than others, some
- 2:38Speaker 1: are placed better than others if you had to pull
- 2:41Speaker 1: him out. Obviously, Drake May has the biggest Jenga piece.
- 2:44Speaker 1: But who are besides Drake May your three biggest Jena
- 2:47Speaker 1: pieces on the Patriots? Ooh, do I want me to
- 2:52Speaker 1: give you mine while you think about it?
- 2:54Speaker 2: Well, I because he's kind of already so I don't
- 3:01Speaker 2: really count. I would not put Landry on my list,
- 3:03Speaker 2: but you can if he counts. But I don't put
- 3:06Speaker 2: him there if he's not one hundred percent. I'm really
- 3:07Speaker 2: worried about what their pass rush is, really worried. I
- 3:09Speaker 2: don't know that he's number one, but he's in my
- 3:11Speaker 2: top three.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Okay, fair enough, So Robbie Is, I'll give you Robbi's
- 3:15Speaker 1: and I'll give you mine, and then they give me yours.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Robbie's has he has Hunter Henry Draymond Jones and Robert Spolaine.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Oh so maybe Jones a better one than Landry somebody
- 3:25Speaker 2: on the edge, So sure.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Mine are AJ Brown number one? To me, I would
- 3:32Speaker 1: still and maybe this is more just like based off
- 3:34Speaker 1: of pure talent, and maybe that's not the best way
- 3:36Speaker 1: to do this. I get there's value, but AJ Brown,
- 3:40Speaker 1: I'm still saying Christian Gonzalez as number two, jang apiece,
- 3:43Speaker 1: most important Patriot, and then I would go Robert Splain
- 3:46Speaker 1: three because I don't know about what's behind Robert.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Spolin that's fair.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Milon Williams is close. I think that that was the
- 3:52Speaker 1: other one I flirted with on this one, But Robert
- 3:55Speaker 1: Splain to me is the one I definitely agree with
- 3:57Speaker 1: with Robbie because who's.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Playing again, nobody behind. It's a good point there. That's why. Yeah,
- 4:02Speaker 2: that's why I end think a J. Brown because like
- 4:03Speaker 2: he'd be a big loss. But they do have wide
- 4:05Speaker 2: receiver depth. I go to the edge where they have
- 4:06Speaker 2: no depth, I go to linebacker where they have don't
- 4:09Speaker 2: have a lot of depth, and they go to corner
- 4:10Speaker 2: where they don't have a lot of depth.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Fair, So you're looking at it more from a value
- 4:13Speaker 1: stand for what's on the roster, So who are your.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Guys one of I'll say one of Jones or Landry. Okay,
- 4:23Speaker 2: like the top pass you can't write. You can't get
- 4:26Speaker 2: any thinner on the edge than you are. You know,
- 4:28Speaker 2: they lose one because it's again, it's not so much
- 4:31Speaker 2: about that player, it's more about who's behind him. I'll
- 4:34Speaker 2: go I'll go Robert's plain number two. Yeah, I'm between
- 4:38Speaker 2: Gonzales and AJ Brown For number three. I guess I'll
- 4:40Speaker 2: go Gonzalez because there's less behind him than there is
- 4:41Speaker 2: behind Brown. I mean, look, Carlton Davis can play. It's
- 4:44Speaker 2: more about like who's gonna be opposite Carlton Davis? After that?
- 4:47Speaker 1: Fair enough, those are good ones. So we all agree,
- 4:51Speaker 1: All three of us agree on Robert splain. I feel
- 4:53Speaker 1: like that's the common denominator here. All right. Next question
- 4:56Speaker 1: here is from David. He asks, I like this one.
- 4:59Speaker 1: This is a good catch twenty two question. How would
- 5:03Speaker 1: you attack our defense with our offense and vice versa?
- 5:07Speaker 1: For example, AJ Brown on Marcus Jones and the slot
- 5:11Speaker 1: DT's over Jared Wilson in pass protection? How would you
- 5:15Speaker 1: reverse engineer? How would you coach against the Patriots on
- 5:19Speaker 1: offense and then coach against them on defense.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd run a lot offensively, Just to be very basic,
- 5:23Speaker 2: I'd probably run a lot of outside zone stretch runs.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Test those edge rushers, keep them on. It's keep it
- 5:28Speaker 2: awayward lit right. Yeah. Basically with the Seahawks, I was
- 5:32Speaker 2: gonna say, and then turn that into play action bootleg
- 5:35Speaker 2: and send aj Brown over the middle and send Pop
- 5:37Speaker 2: Douglas over the middle to catch and run. So that's
- 5:40Speaker 2: what I would do on that side. On the other side,
- 5:42Speaker 2: how would I attack the offense? Honestly, just I'm gonna
- 5:45Speaker 2: say with the Seahawks, just replicates Yeah, that's on, And
- 5:50Speaker 2: I was gonna say, pressure up the middle, yeah, and
- 5:53Speaker 2: take away the deep ball and four Strake made a
- 5:55Speaker 2: dink and dunk underneath for for the whole way on field.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Totally valid the Patriots defense. I think the one thing
- 6:01Speaker 1: I would attack in the middle of the field is
- 6:03Speaker 1: their past defense in the middle of the field. I'm
- 6:06Speaker 1: I'm much more interested at throwing at the linebackers in
- 6:08Speaker 1: safeties and and Carlon Davis and Marcus Jones. So I
- 6:13Speaker 1: still feel like if you're if you're taking the Patriots offense,
- 6:16Speaker 1: their backs Hunter, Henry Romeo Dobbs or aj Brown out
- 6:20Speaker 1: of the slot, whichever one you think is primarily probably Dobbs,
- 6:24Speaker 1: those guys. Getting those guys matched up on the Patriots
- 6:27Speaker 1: linebackers in safeties, splaying byered, you know, those types of players,
- 6:32Speaker 1: I think is where you want to be offensively. Defensively,
- 6:36Speaker 1: how you know, I would you know, attack the Patriots offense. Yeah,
- 6:42Speaker 1: I guess Seattle's blueprint is kind of where it's at.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Because until they prove that they can kind of pick
- 6:48Speaker 1: up some of those more exotic pressure looks and stay
- 6:51Speaker 1: out of third and long and do that sort of thing,
- 6:53Speaker 1: that's going to be how teams are going to attack them.
- 6:55Speaker 1: They're going to try to heat up Drake May, They're
- 6:57Speaker 1: going to try to send pressure from different places to
- 7:00Speaker 1: Drake May, take away the deep ball for some underneath,
- 7:04Speaker 1: like those are gonna be all of the boxes. So yeah,
- 7:07Speaker 1: basically what Seattle did from both sides of the football
- 7:10Speaker 1: almost like the Seahawks were well coached team like that
- 7:13Speaker 1: won that game pretty easily. That's a good question though.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I liked that one as a catch. Twenty two question. Yeah,
- 7:18Speaker 1: all right, this one is from aj I Key had
- 7:21Speaker 1: a list of like ten of these. I widdled onto
- 7:24Speaker 1: a couple ranked these scenarios from most least likely, most
- 7:28Speaker 1: to least likely. Will Campbell ends the year as a
- 7:31Speaker 1: top ten tackle, he said tackle, So I want to
- 7:34Speaker 1: say left tackle. Make it a little bit easier because
- 7:36Speaker 1: they don't have to include all the right tackles too.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Traveon Henderson is RB one over Remandre Kyle Williams wins
- 7:44Speaker 1: the wide receiver three job. So I would say if
- 7:48Speaker 1: I had to rank them from most to least likely, Henderson, Campbell, Williams,
- 7:54Speaker 1: That's how I would have it.
- 7:55Speaker 2: From most to least. I just it's Josh McDaniels. The
- 7:58Speaker 2: RB one thing doesn't exist. How many times we have
- 8:00Speaker 2: to go over them, that's fair. And Stevenson is the
- 8:03Speaker 2: guy that can handle more volume now, especially the early
- 8:05Speaker 2: down volume. Right now. Henderson might be the guy you
- 8:08Speaker 2: go to, and it didn't work out this way last
- 8:10Speaker 2: year because his pass blocking wasn't there. He might be
- 8:11Speaker 2: the guy you go to in the more high octane situations,
- 8:15Speaker 2: the two minute drill and things like that. But I
- 8:18Speaker 2: still just I think the premise is flawed in asking that.
- 8:21Speaker 2: I think it's a lot more likely Kai Williams wins
- 8:23Speaker 2: the third wide receiver job than it is or what
- 8:27Speaker 2: was the Will Campbell One doesn't top tackle top ten
- 8:29Speaker 2: tackles the opposite Okay, never mind plays a tackle really well? Yeah, yeah,
- 8:36Speaker 2: top ten left tackle or call it even if they
- 8:38Speaker 2: move in the right, even if something happens when they
- 8:39Speaker 2: move and right. I think he can be a top
- 8:42Speaker 2: ten tackle on whatever side he's on. Maybe not top five,
- 8:45Speaker 2: but top ten. Who'll be somewhere in that range.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean a top ten tackles hard because you
- 8:49Speaker 1: start to add all the right tackles into the lane.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Johnson, well, I think among the left tackles last year
- 8:53Speaker 2: before he got hurt, if we just go by pressure
- 8:55Speaker 2: rate on PFF, he was fifteenth. He was right in
- 8:57Speaker 2: the middle right, So can he You know, that's not
- 9:00Speaker 2: that much of an increase to go to fifteenth to tenth.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Fair enough, Henderson, I don't think seems that feels whatever
- 9:07Speaker 1: you want to call RB one what it is. I
- 9:09Speaker 1: assume every time.
- 9:11Speaker 2: I get that question about Travon Henderson, I assumed his
- 9:13Speaker 2: asked through the lens of fantasy football, of course, So no,
- 9:17Speaker 2: he's not there is never going to be. Josh McDaniels.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Regardless of who the backs are. Josh McDaniels is just
- 9:24Speaker 2: never going to run an offense where one of the
- 9:25Speaker 2: backs gets like seventy percent of the touches. That's just
- 9:28Speaker 2: philosophically not what he believes in based off everything I've
- 9:31Speaker 2: ever seen him do. He's never said that to me,
- 9:33Speaker 2: So this isn't me reporting it, but just off of
- 9:36Speaker 2: what almost twenty years of data, Like the Cory Dillon
- 9:39Speaker 2: offense was not McDaniels. He was here, but he was
- 9:40Speaker 2: not coordinating it, and that was Corey Dillon. That's probably
- 9:44Speaker 2: the best running back the Patriots have had.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Yeah, in terms of like volume. You know, there was
- 9:49Speaker 1: a year there where Dion Lewis was just.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Neil Lewis was like talented.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Even the Garrett never got work because Vereen and Shane
- 9:58Speaker 1: and James Whitewath.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Right, So I just the idea that Josh, if it's
- 10:01Speaker 2: asked through a fantasy football point of view, no, Trayvon
- 10:05Speaker 2: Henderson is never going to be a bell cow back
- 10:06Speaker 2: because Josh McDaniels is never going to have going to
- 10:08Speaker 2: as long as McDaniel's years, would say, Trayvon Henderson is
- 10:11Speaker 2: never going to be a bell cow back because that's
- 10:13Speaker 2: not how they operate, so that that one's not gonna happen,
- 10:17Speaker 2: all right.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Next question here is from mister ed. He's asking, looking
- 10:21Speaker 1: at the trading camp roster, what position group are the
- 10:25Speaker 1: straints and which one to need some help? So I
- 10:27Speaker 1: would say ed rusher needs some help is the category
- 10:30Speaker 1: that I think ye, I would say sneaky or not
- 10:34Speaker 1: so sneaky. But behind ed drusher, tight end I think
- 10:38Speaker 1: is another one.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Only tight end sneak anymore. I think enough people pointed
- 10:41Speaker 2: out I'd say edge, rusher, tight end, and linebacker are
- 10:43Speaker 2: probably the three where they could use the most.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Help, especially after the Julian Hill injury. Y.
- 10:48Speaker 2: I would say the strongest I assume we're doing besides quarterback. Yes,
- 10:52Speaker 2: they're strongest. Position groups I would say are receiver yep,
- 10:57Speaker 2: I agree. Defensive tackle it's a good one. I almost
- 11:02Speaker 2: want to say offensive tackle.
- 11:03Speaker 1: It is unbelievable that in just a short period of
- 11:07Speaker 1: time that of the last couple of years.
- 11:09Speaker 2: I would disagree short period of time. Are you gonna
- 11:11Speaker 2: say tackle, No.
- 11:13Speaker 1: I'm saying where they've been over the last handful of years,
- 11:17Speaker 1: In just a short period of time, wide receiver. I
- 11:19Speaker 1: think the best position group on.
- 11:20Speaker 2: The Yeah, no, it is wide receiver defensive tackle.
- 11:23Speaker 1: It feels like it's been a decade since I've been
- 11:25Speaker 1: able to say anything close to.
- 11:27Speaker 2: That, you know, the Edelman Cooks, we never said it professionally. No.
- 11:33Speaker 1: So the Patriots, I'd say their their best position group
- 11:36Speaker 1: right now on the roster is certainly their deepest wide receiver,
- 11:39Speaker 1: the New England Patriots. Yeah, it's pretty crazy, I'd say so.
- 11:43Speaker 2: The other one, I'd say, I'm between offensive tackle and safety. Yeah, well,
- 11:47Speaker 2: their running back room is pretty good too.
- 11:48Speaker 1: I guess offensive tackle they got three if you assume
- 11:50Speaker 1: that low MoU can play. They got three quality.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Offensive between Marcus Bryant Dimetri's crown over. I think they
- 11:56Speaker 2: got a couple of decent projects too, for like a
- 11:58Speaker 2: swing tackle kind of guy.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Absolutely, all right, good question. This one's from Keith. I
- 12:03Speaker 1: like to know why Milton Williams and Christian Barmer aren't
- 12:05Speaker 1: being taken into consideration with the pass rush. Aren't they
- 12:09Speaker 1: two quality players that will gardner inside pressure to make
- 12:12Speaker 1: up for the lack of edge pressure. I kind of
- 12:14Speaker 1: agree with the premise.
- 12:15Speaker 2: That last point is the difference, though It's football at
- 12:19Speaker 2: its core is about manipulating space. We're gonna be really philosophical, right,
- 12:24Speaker 2: we just did, And it's just the manipulation of space
- 12:30Speaker 2: of the rusher is different coming from the outside versus
- 12:33Speaker 2: on the inside. It's like when we used to talk
- 12:35Speaker 2: about the Patriots don't have an elite wide receiver, but
- 12:38Speaker 2: they have Rob Gronkowski. Rob Gronkowski is great, or the
- 12:40Speaker 2: Chiefs with Travis Kelce like those last couple of years
- 12:42Speaker 2: after I held right gravity, right, It just the impact
- 12:47Speaker 2: is different coming from that position, coming from where that
- 12:51Speaker 2: guy physically lines up on the field. So those guys
- 12:55Speaker 2: are really good, and they're really good pass rushers. At
- 12:57Speaker 2: the end of the day, a premium edge rusher is
- 13:01Speaker 2: just different for what he does for you schematically, unless
- 13:05Speaker 2: it's like Aaron Donald. Maybe Gronk was a bad example, right, Yeah,
- 13:08Speaker 2: and even Aaron Donald the Patriots, you look at what
- 13:12Speaker 2: they did in Super Bowl fifty three. Right, it's easier
- 13:16Speaker 2: to throw assets at that guy. You can always hold
- 13:20Speaker 2: that guy up, not all.
- 13:21Speaker 1: I always shouldn't say always. You can almost always double
- 13:24Speaker 1: an interior player, right. The center can pretty much always
- 13:27Speaker 1: open to one guy on the interior right, so they
- 13:31Speaker 1: have two which helps. Yeah, I agree with the overall
- 13:34Speaker 1: premise of the of the question. Note, I do think
- 13:36Speaker 1: that that interior pressure can push the quarterbacks.
- 13:41Speaker 2: If we talk about the Patriots' ability to rush the
- 13:43Speaker 2: pass or overall, they should be included. I assume this
- 13:46Speaker 2: is about the conversation we have last week about Daniel
- 13:49Speaker 2: Jeremia's twelve killers.
- 13:50Speaker 1: That's part of it. I also think that the general
- 13:53Speaker 1: consensus is that people are worried about the pass rush. Yeah,
- 13:57Speaker 1: and within that, I don't know if Milton Williams and
- 13:59Speaker 1: Christian bar Or do get taken into account enough all
- 14:03Speaker 1: I'm looking out and I'll put Harold Landry in this category. Two.
- 14:06Speaker 1: There's three guys, Achis Landry, Draymond Jones. Can one of
- 14:10Speaker 1: those guys just clean up the trash? Right? If Milton
- 14:13Speaker 1: Williams and Christian Barbe and you know the other guys,
- 14:17Speaker 1: you know, Robert Splaine, maybe safeties get involved in the
- 14:20Speaker 1: pass rush blitzing. However they cook up the pressure to
- 14:23Speaker 1: get the quarterback to hold the ball or move off
- 14:25Speaker 1: his spot or whatever the case may be. Can they
- 14:28Speaker 1: get one of those guys kind of like Chase on
- 14:31Speaker 1: was in the playoffs last year to just clean up
- 14:35Speaker 1: clean up crew. If that's all they need. They don't
- 14:37Speaker 1: need that guy to be Miles Garrett. They don't need
- 14:40Speaker 1: Draymont Jones to be a fifteen to twenty sack guy.
- 14:42Speaker 1: They need him to be like a ten sack guy
- 14:44Speaker 1: that just is there to bear hug the quarterback when
- 14:48Speaker 1: he comes to his direction because he's getting chased by
- 14:51Speaker 1: Milton Williams and Christian Barmore. So I do understand the
- 14:53Speaker 1: premise of the question. I understand your point as well.
- 14:56Speaker 1: There's things that you can do with an edge rusher.
- 14:58Speaker 1: You can chip them, you can leave a tight end
- 15:01Speaker 1: in if you really are worried, you can go six
- 15:04Speaker 1: offensive line and leave alignment in there. But you are
- 15:07Speaker 1: really taking resources away from someplace else to double that player,
- 15:11Speaker 1: whether it's the back being late to get into the pattern,
- 15:14Speaker 1: the tight end staying in rather than releasing into a route,
- 15:18Speaker 1: all those different things. On the interior, you can just
- 15:21Speaker 1: slide the line half slide towards Milton Williams and now
- 15:24Speaker 1: he's doubled. Done right, You know? Those are the differences
- 15:29Speaker 1: I would say, is it's less resourceful to be able
- 15:32Speaker 1: to double those guys good question. All right, next one,
- 15:35Speaker 1: so we have along the same lines. This is from
- 15:38Speaker 1: our friend Boom eight zero, five, one seven. I like
- 15:41Speaker 1: the ones with the numbers. I feel like everyone is
- 15:45Speaker 1: sleeping on Elijah Ponder. What is realistic? You're too late
- 15:48Speaker 1: for him. I'll tell you one person who's not sleeping
- 15:51Speaker 1: on Elijah Ponder. That's our friend Taylor Kyle. I'm I kid,
- 15:55Speaker 1: I kid, But Elijah Ponder, what's your realistic? Your two
- 15:58Speaker 1: for him? He had four sacks slash year, was kind
- 16:00Speaker 1: of involved in some of those pass rush packages.
- 16:03Speaker 2: He'll be more involved. I still think he's probably situational
- 16:05Speaker 2: pass rush. He's not a guy you want playing every down.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Does he get that up to like five or six sacks?
- 16:08Speaker 2: I could see it.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Yeah. I'm somewhere in the middle of you know, not
- 16:14Speaker 1: having any expectations and where you know Taylor might be
- 16:18Speaker 1: with Elijah Ponder where yeah, like five or six sacks
- 16:22Speaker 1: and like a useful rotational rusher. I think it's a
- 16:25Speaker 1: good ceiling. Let's not not trying to belittle him or
- 16:29Speaker 1: anything like that. But this was an undrafted player, so
- 16:31Speaker 1: I don't want to get too crazy about my expectations
- 16:35Speaker 1: for him. But somewhere around there, I think is fair.
- 16:38Speaker 1: This is from Ben's gott tweets, who is involved in
- 16:41Speaker 1: the show quite frequently, after Barmore, Williams and Spalane, which
- 16:45Speaker 1: front seven defender will play the most snaps in twenty
- 16:48Speaker 1: twenty six Front seven defender, I'd say Draymond Jones, Barmore, Williams, Splaine, Yeah, probably.
- 16:57Speaker 1: I think Christianelli's honorable mention in this category. He's probably
- 17:01Speaker 1: gonna be the primary week sidelinebacker gets displayed, so as
- 17:04Speaker 1: long as he doesn't get hurt, he's gonna play a
- 17:05Speaker 1: whole lot. But I think that that if I had
- 17:08Speaker 1: to guess, I'd say Jones. I don't think Jones coming
- 17:10Speaker 1: off the field. No, if he's healthy, I think he's
- 17:12Speaker 1: playing a lot of snaps this year. Next one, I'll
- 17:17Speaker 1: sticking with the edge rusher theme. Can you recap the
- 17:22Speaker 1: Gabe Acis situation? And how worried on the scale of
- 17:25Speaker 1: one to ten are we about gab Acus? So I'd
- 17:28Speaker 1: say quick recap. Gay Accus gets drafted by the Patriots
- 17:32Speaker 1: in the second round. He reports to rookie Mini Caamp.
- 17:37Speaker 1: He's physically out there for rookie Mini Caamp, but not
- 17:39Speaker 1: participating in rookie Mini caamp. Then we start to hear
- 17:43Speaker 1: rumblings about potentially hamstring injury from the pre draft process.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Mike Reese had a litany of injuries that it could
- 17:50Speaker 1: be right and a piece that he wrote with some
- 17:52Speaker 1: reporting on it. As of July first, he remains unsigned
- 17:56Speaker 1: on his rookie contract. He also did not sign a
- 17:59Speaker 1: PARTI patient agreement to even practice while they're negotiating the
- 18:03Speaker 1: rookie contract. On a scale of one to ten, how worried?
- 18:08Speaker 1: I think my answer is I have two different answers
- 18:11Speaker 1: for this question. Yeah, how worried am I about Gay
- 18:14Speaker 1: Bacchus in twenty twenty six for his rookie season six,
- 18:20Speaker 1: six or seven?
- 18:21Speaker 2: Right?
- 18:21Speaker 1: How worried am I for his career in the NFL?
- 18:25Speaker 2: Like two? Two or three or three? Yeah, I'm probably
- 18:28Speaker 2: with you on that he's going to be behind. He
- 18:29Speaker 2: missed important time. It's all like he's been in the facility.
- 18:32Speaker 2: It sounds like he hasn'tven been with the team, so
- 18:34Speaker 2: that that feels notable. I think ultimately he stills enough
- 18:39Speaker 2: talent that that once he gets on track, he'll be good.
- 18:42Speaker 2: But it's just a matter of how behind is he
- 18:43Speaker 2: going to be getting on track?
- 18:44Speaker 1: Yeah? And look, you know there's some element and I
- 18:47Speaker 1: know other people have said this, there's a sea ball
- 18:50Speaker 1: get ball element to that position. It's not receiver where
- 18:52Speaker 1: there's a lot of chemistry with the quarterback. It's not
- 18:55Speaker 1: a corner, not even necessarily where I think that there's more,
- 18:59Speaker 1: you know, communication middle of the field players like safeties
- 19:02Speaker 1: and linebackers where there's a lot of communication involved. Basically
- 19:06Speaker 1: with Akis, it's at my box in the edge or
- 19:09Speaker 1: am my spill in the edge?
- 19:10Speaker 2: Right?
- 19:10Speaker 1: Am I trying to push the ball back inside? Or
- 19:13Speaker 1: am I trying to push the ball outside? Am I
- 19:15Speaker 1: rushing the passer?
- 19:16Speaker 2: Like?
- 19:17Speaker 1: There's not a whole lot of mind games. I guess
- 19:20Speaker 1: that go on it. But he's got to get up
- 19:23Speaker 1: the speed and he's got to get in the rhythm
- 19:24Speaker 1: and he's got to get his feet under him. In
- 19:26Speaker 1: the NFL, and we see rookies have slower builds, especially
- 19:31Speaker 1: second round picks, Like this is not a guy that
- 19:33Speaker 1: was drafted in the top ten, top twenty of the draft.
- 19:36Speaker 1: This is a guy that was fifty fifth overall. I
- 19:38Speaker 1: still am cautiously optimistic that he's going to contribute as
- 19:42Speaker 1: a rookie. But I thought maybe he would push to
- 19:44Speaker 1: be a starter as a rookie Overpatcher too.
- 19:47Speaker 2: But now maybe that's not going to happen.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe that's not going to happen. Now, all right,
- 19:51Speaker 1: this one's from Brady. He says, given the roster stands
- 19:55Speaker 1: right now, are you confident with the safety and linebacker
- 19:58Speaker 1: rooms for the Patriots. I'm a little confident in safety.
- 20:01Speaker 2: I feel okay about safety.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Yeah, Wo's in byered, Mike Brown's had a nice spring.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Mike Brown's nice spring. Delt Pattis is you know, if
- 20:07Speaker 2: he's your fourth safety, Yeah, that's fine.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Linebacker is a fair one.
- 20:11Speaker 2: You know, you have.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Spallaine and Ellis that you feel pretty good about. But
- 20:15Speaker 1: I don't really think Ellis is anything super special as
- 20:20Speaker 1: a player, but good enough. And then behind that, it's
- 20:22Speaker 1: a lot of question marks. You know, is kJ Britt
- 20:24Speaker 1: going to replace Jake Jack Gibbons and really be that
- 20:27Speaker 1: utility man that's a third guy if they're you know,
- 20:30Speaker 1: primary backup type of player. And then the next question here,
- 20:33Speaker 1: I guess we can combine the questions, which rookie linebacker,
- 20:38Speaker 1: not edge rusher, but pure linebacker has the biggest chance
- 20:43Speaker 1: to make an impact. There's only two nom the awesome
- 20:46Speaker 1: I or or Khalil Jacobs. So kind of goes hand
- 20:50Speaker 1: in hand with linebacker. Like if one of those two
- 20:52Speaker 1: guys steps up behind kJ Britt becomes the fourth guy.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Maybe we give a little bit of love to Chad
- 20:57Speaker 1: Muma here as well. You know, maybe he's in the mix.
- 21:00Speaker 1: But how do you feel about that linebacker? And I
- 21:01Speaker 1: agree with you. At safety, I think I think they
- 21:03Speaker 1: got ye know you how many teams go for deep
- 21:06Speaker 1: at safety?
- 21:07Speaker 2: You know, right? I think and look, we know that
- 21:09Speaker 2: if they need Brandon's schooler in a pinch, he can
- 21:11Speaker 2: give him a couple of snaps over the course of
- 21:12Speaker 2: the year. So sure, I think they're okay. Yeah, linebacker,
- 21:16Speaker 2: I mean, I think Splain and Ellis is a good duo.
- 21:17Speaker 2: It's just what's behind him. If kJ break can pick
- 21:19Speaker 2: up where he got hurt the spring, yeah, I mean,
- 21:24Speaker 2: I think he can be what Jack Gibbons was. Ideally
- 21:26Speaker 2: they would have upgraded there. But okay, or at least
- 21:28Speaker 2: level from last year. I we love Chad moom in
- 21:31Speaker 2: that draft we did. Is there something left there to
- 21:35Speaker 2: tap into? Maybe I'll be interested to see I'll admit
- 21:39Speaker 2: I'm not as high on Obiser. I think he's more
- 21:41Speaker 2: of a pure special teams player. It's a little undersized,
- 21:44Speaker 2: and Kleil Jacob is probably just a special team or two,
- 21:46Speaker 2: so I don't think it's a rookie year.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Looking for at linebacker, this seems like a position and
- 21:50Speaker 1: I thought maybe this would be the draft, but they
- 21:52Speaker 1: ended up taking Lomu and kind of taking that insurance policy.
- 21:55Speaker 1: I'd tackle at some point, I would love to see
- 21:57Speaker 1: them take a top one hundred pick at linebacker, and
- 22:00Speaker 1: they haven't done it in like a decade. I think
- 22:02Speaker 1: I think High Tower might be the last one that
- 22:04Speaker 1: they picked a top one hundred linebacker, like pure linebacker,
- 22:07Speaker 1: you know, off ball linebacker, right, not rusher. I know
- 22:10Speaker 1: it's a devalued position. I know that a lot of
- 22:12Speaker 1: people look at it that way, but I do think
- 22:14Speaker 1: that they're getting to the point where they have some
- 22:16Speaker 1: luxury picks to make, where the roster's in a much
- 22:19Speaker 1: better position, much better shape, where they don't need to
- 22:21Speaker 1: take premium position, premium position, premium position.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Wit weeks.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Maybe an off ball linebacker that can be like the
- 22:28Speaker 1: next Roberts Bulan and be a real dude.
- 22:30Speaker 2: There weeks the last linebacker period they drafted before non
- 22:34Speaker 2: dbi Izor.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Yeah, Juwan Bentley.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Uh no, there's one other, a couple in between. Okay,
- 22:44Speaker 2: there's two between CAMMC Groan, Camera Groan in twenty one. Yeah,
- 22:47Speaker 2: my guy, this guy didn't even make the team.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Love Cammcgron Cash Oh yeah, Cash Mallowia. He played next
- 22:54Speaker 1: to somebody.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Where do you go, Wyoming, Wyoming?
- 22:58Speaker 1: It was Wilson. Luke Wilson, right, Luke Wilson.
- 23:01Speaker 2: I don't think so. I think it. I think it
- 23:03Speaker 2: was Chad Muma.
- 23:04Speaker 1: No, he played next to somebody that was better than him.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Yeah, No, it was Chad Muma. Was it?
- 23:08Speaker 1: Chad move?
- 23:09Speaker 2: Here was another linebacker in that draft from why oh no,
- 23:11Speaker 2: Muma was twenty two.
- 23:13Speaker 1: He was on the Cowboys last year. Wilson.
- 23:15Speaker 2: I think it's was that Logan Wilson.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Logan Wilson, Thank you, Logan. Luke Wilson is the actor.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Yeah, Logans, Yeah it was. It was Logan Wilson, right,
- 23:25Speaker 2: And then before Luke Mallowey in twenty twenty, they took
- 23:30Speaker 2: Jawan Bentley and Christian Sam in twenty eighteen. Christian I
- 23:34Speaker 2: had some Christian Sam Stock landed Roberts in twenty sixteen. Yeah,
- 23:38Speaker 2: I don't even remember Matthew Wells. Then you go back
- 23:41Speaker 2: to like Jamie Collins and on to High Tower. They
- 23:44Speaker 2: could use it Jamie Collins or done Brandon Spikes. They
- 23:46Speaker 2: had a little bit of a linebacker on at one point.
- 23:49Speaker 1: All right, next question here, Luke Wilson's that's gonna crack
- 23:52Speaker 1: me up. That's good. That's good. That's how you know
- 23:55Speaker 1: it's July first.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Yeah, and we're on the third hour of doing this.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Yeah, Luke Wilson instead of Logan Will this is from Bryson.
- 24:01Speaker 1: We all know Bryson, he said, asked one of the
- 24:05Speaker 1: odds that Caleb Belomu becomes a starter in twenty twenty
- 24:09Speaker 1: six So, I don't know how what scale we want
- 24:11Speaker 1: to put this on.
- 24:12Speaker 2: I think there's sentence he starts a game like, are
- 24:15Speaker 2: Morgan Moses and Will Campbell both going to start seventeen games?
- 24:19Speaker 2: The odds of that are incredibly low. Most teams have
- 24:21Speaker 2: to I think I haven't done the numbers from last year,
- 24:24Speaker 2: but in twenty four I think it was only like
- 24:26Speaker 2: six teams. Yeah, had the same starting tackles for all
- 24:29Speaker 2: seventeen games, so he probably will start games, become a starter,
- 24:33Speaker 2: like beat somebody out for that job. I think low.
- 24:37Speaker 2: I'm not ruling it out with Morgan Moses if he
- 24:39Speaker 2: has a just unbelievable camp, but I think he becomes
- 24:44Speaker 2: like an established full time starter in twenty seven. But
- 24:47Speaker 2: do you think he starts games in twenty twenty six?
- 24:49Speaker 1: So it's good. It's a good distinction.
- 24:53Speaker 2: To me.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Saying that Kayleb Looman became a starter means that he
- 24:57Speaker 1: overtook somebody and actually became a starter. That as a
- 25:00Speaker 1: very low percentage chance. Yeah, five to ten. Let's put
- 25:03Speaker 1: it at he is gonna have three opportunities to start games,
- 25:08Speaker 1: both tackle spots and I also put left guard in
- 25:11Speaker 1: that category. Two. If Elijah Ahratucker misses any significant amount
- 25:15Speaker 1: of time, I'm of my thief theory on that is,
- 25:19Speaker 1: if Elijah Veritucker misses a half, if he misses a game,
- 25:22Speaker 1: I think that's Ben Brown. I think Ben Brown makes
- 25:24Speaker 1: the spot start. If Elijah Vira Tucker is going to
- 25:27Speaker 1: miss a month, two months, eight weeks, six weeks, something
- 25:30Speaker 1: like that, I do think that Caleb blom who would.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Get that opportunity at guard.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Interesting that they were playing him at guard in the spring.
- 25:38Speaker 1: A couple of times we saw that. I think that's
- 25:42Speaker 1: where they would turn if it's a long term injury
- 25:44Speaker 1: to Elijah Hratucker, if he has another season ending injury.
- 25:47Speaker 1: But I hope doesn't happen. But we're just playing theoreticals here.
- 25:51Speaker 1: If that does happen, then I do think they would
- 25:53Speaker 1: call on Caleb Blowmoho full time over a guy like
- 25:56Speaker 1: Ben Brown who's more of like a super sub spot
- 25:58Speaker 1: starter than like a long term starter there. But the chances,
- 26:03Speaker 1: you know, if they put it on a percentage chance
- 26:05Speaker 1: that Caleb Bluemo beats out Campbell or Moses or something
- 26:08Speaker 1: like that to be a true starter in twenty twenty six,
- 26:11Speaker 1: I put that as almost zero.
- 26:13Speaker 2: I think it's low.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, this is from Claire. Hello Claire, Congratulations
- 26:18Speaker 1: to the Lions to England. We just watched them beat
- 26:22Speaker 1: the Congo.
- 26:23Speaker 2: By the time this air, they're gonna already have their
- 26:24Speaker 2: game against Mexico.
- 26:25Speaker 1: That's true. Yeah, sorry, Claire, hope it goes well.
- 26:28Speaker 2: For you guys in Mexico. That's a tough one.
- 26:30Speaker 1: As a US fan, I probably roo for England in
- 26:33Speaker 1: that one. But that one's tough. But yeah, we just
- 26:35Speaker 1: saw Harry Kane savior butts Claire, so congratulations on that.
- 26:39Speaker 1: What do you guys think the Patriots do to replace
- 26:42Speaker 1: Julian Hill? You know Claire was going with the tight ends, Alex.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Does the Gilliam signing cushion that enough or is there
- 26:48Speaker 1: a worthy free agent tight end to sign? I think
- 26:50Speaker 1: this is one of the more fun questions, because this,
- 26:52Speaker 1: to me is one of the more pressing questions with
- 26:55Speaker 1: the team right now. Are they a John new Smith team?
- 26:58Speaker 1: Are they a whole trade team? Like, are they really
- 27:02Speaker 1: looking to add a significant piece at tight end or
- 27:05Speaker 1: are they just looking to add a body. Mike Rabel
- 27:07Speaker 1: made it clear they're gonna add somebody at that position.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I still think there's a chance they wait and
- 27:12Speaker 2: see what they have. They add somebody to the back
- 27:14Speaker 2: of the roster. Tanner, Arkin and CJ. Dupree battle it
- 27:16Speaker 2: out for the third spot. If they don't like what
- 27:18Speaker 2: they see, then it's like a I still know about
- 27:20Speaker 2: John who Smith just we've seen him and Josh mccaniels. Yeah,
- 27:24Speaker 2: I don't know what's changed. I think Josh John Fitzpatrick
- 27:29Speaker 2: makes more sense. Will Disley. If he's healthy, I'll throw
- 27:31Speaker 2: out Mercedes Lewis again, that kind of more true blocking
- 27:35Speaker 2: tight end.
- 27:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I like the Will Disley shout. That one to
- 27:38Speaker 1: me is I think an interesting one. The only difference,
- 27:41Speaker 1: little difference that I would say with John and Smith
- 27:43Speaker 1: this time around, is they're not going to pay him
- 27:46Speaker 1: one of the biggest free agent contracts of the It
- 27:48Speaker 1: wasn't the.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Whole problem the last time that they tried to use
- 27:51Speaker 2: him as an inline blocker. Enough at it.
- 27:53Speaker 1: It was just a whole system fit issue. So what
- 27:56Speaker 1: do you.
- 27:56Speaker 2: I don't care how much to pay them.
- 27:58Speaker 1: My point about the payment is more so there's less
- 28:00Speaker 1: pressure on him to succeed, right, But we just when
- 28:03Speaker 1: they brought him in twenty twenty one, there's a lot
- 28:05Speaker 1: of his.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Skill set does not align with what he's gonna do.
- 28:07Speaker 2: It doesn't do in this system.
- 28:08Speaker 1: He's a straight line linear athlete. Run cross or this way,
- 28:12Speaker 1: run the cross or that way, run a team up
- 28:14Speaker 1: the you know, up the numbers. He is not a
- 28:17Speaker 1: get to the top of the route, find the soft spot,
- 28:20Speaker 1: get to the top of the route, cut off of
- 28:22Speaker 1: leverage like that's Hunter Henry right, That's not his game.
- 28:26Speaker 1: That's why it didn't fit. It was less so about
- 28:28Speaker 1: the blocking, in my opinion, and it was more so
- 28:30Speaker 1: about the route tree. He just didn't fit well in
- 28:33Speaker 1: that with all the option routes and the stuff inside
- 28:36Speaker 1: the formation of the Patriots run. He didn't fit well
- 28:39Speaker 1: with that particularly Well. He's the best player available.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Though, Yeah, I would they find like a Dwayne Allen type.
- 28:45Speaker 1: So maybe that maybe that's your guy, Mercedes Lewis at
- 28:49Speaker 1: forty years old or whatever.
- 28:50Speaker 2: You can still block.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Maybe it's Will Disley somebody like that.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Or or do you try to get one of the
- 28:56Speaker 2: Rams tight Ends.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Maybe it was one of those guys. But you we're
- 28:59Speaker 1: both of the school thought that the tight End Edition
- 29:03Speaker 1: is going to be a name we know, Like, I
- 29:05Speaker 1: don't think this is going to just be a scrap
- 29:06Speaker 1: heap guy.
- 29:07Speaker 2: I know see this thing. I don't think so, at
- 29:09Speaker 2: least not initially. Okay, I think they're gonna let the
- 29:12Speaker 2: kids play it out, and then if they don't like
- 29:14Speaker 2: what they see, then in mid August we maybe get
- 29:17Speaker 2: the name that we know.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Zeke Elliott type thing. Yeah, gotcha, all right, fair enough?
- 29:22Speaker 1: This is from Cheese Burger posse.
- 29:25Speaker 2: Excellent.
- 29:26Speaker 1: I like a good cheeseburger. You know you're not a
- 29:28Speaker 1: big cheeseburger guy, like you like burgers without the cheese. Yeah,
- 29:34Speaker 1: I guess that's what are your toppings on the burger?
- 29:37Speaker 1: I mean it depends what kind of burger, But like,
- 29:39Speaker 1: are you like a bacon guy as you go? Yeah,
- 29:41Speaker 1: lettuce either grilled or either grilled onions or like those
- 29:45Speaker 1: the crunchy you know what I'm talking about.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Yeah, lettuce, some sort of onion bacon. You know what
- 29:52Speaker 2: I really like. I'll do either one individually, but like
- 29:55Speaker 2: making it on my own. Mix A one sauce in mayo, Okay,
- 30:00Speaker 2: And what I'll actually do if I'm really treating myself
- 30:03Speaker 2: instead of putting bacon on the burger, mix a one
- 30:06Speaker 2: sauce in mayo with some bacon bits mixed in and
- 30:08Speaker 2: spread out on the burger. That plays. Okay, you don't
- 30:12Speaker 2: believe me, You don't believe try it, get back to me.
- 30:18Speaker 1: So I'm a big barbecue sauce and make You can also.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Do barbecue sauce and mayo. That works too. I actually
- 30:24Speaker 2: I stumbled on the A one one because I was out.
- 30:27Speaker 2: I was in like high school, so I should say
- 30:28Speaker 2: my parents my mom was out of barbecue sauce, but
- 30:32Speaker 2: we had a one because I'm like, oh, it's close enough,
- 30:34Speaker 2: and I don't know that there's something about that that
- 30:35Speaker 2: takes it to another level. But you can totally do
- 30:38Speaker 2: barbecue sauce and mayo, mix some bacon bits in really
- 30:41Speaker 2: good burger topping.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:42Speaker 2: I'm not as good with hot dogs.
- 30:43Speaker 1: I'm a mayo and barbecue sauce combo condiment on a burger.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I do either one individually, bacon sauce.
- 30:50Speaker 1: I'm always good. Cheese, you know, dairy free cheese, you
- 30:54Speaker 1: guy or no. I've had it before. There's this place
- 30:57Speaker 1: in La called you Mammy Burger and they had all
- 30:59Speaker 1: these kind of crazy burgers, Like.
- 31:01Speaker 2: I don't go over the top with the burger. I don't.
- 31:03Speaker 1: I really liked it. Some of the flavor was unbelievable
- 31:06Speaker 1: in some of them, but it was like a one
- 31:08Speaker 1: time if.
- 31:09Speaker 2: I'm like in the mood. I've probably had it like
- 31:11Speaker 2: three or four times in my life. Like, if I'm
- 31:12Speaker 2: in a certain mood and I'm at a place where
- 31:14Speaker 2: i know it's gonna be good, I'll get it. But
- 31:16Speaker 2: you're making me hungry, I know, all right, are you
- 31:18Speaker 2: a ketchup on hot dog guy? Ketchup and mustard ketchup and.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Mustard dot combo.
- 31:23Speaker 2: I don't know, it's weird. I don't like mustard. Not
- 31:24Speaker 2: a mustard guy, mustard guy. You don't like honey mustard?
- 31:27Speaker 2: Not really. I don't know why I don't like mustard.
- 31:32Speaker 2: The honey mustard is great, right, you know you know
- 31:35Speaker 2: a place is great honey mustard, like legendary honey mustard
- 31:38Speaker 2: Where town.
- 31:38Speaker 1: Spot, of course?
- 31:41Speaker 2: Yeah, you mock it what I do. It's a it's
- 31:44Speaker 2: a it's a pizza like bar pizza staple. Is it
- 31:49Speaker 2: around here?
- 31:50Speaker 1: Yes?
- 31:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it's in Stoton.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Stoton, all right?
- 31:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:55Speaker 1: So you know there's Creston the ice cream place.
- 31:58Speaker 2: Sure, yeah, great.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Wardsberry Farm is a big one too.
- 32:02Speaker 2: For the gonna make sense to me, I have one
- 32:04Speaker 2: path to. I'm just saying town. If you want like
- 32:06Speaker 2: good south Shore bar pizza town spas up there that
- 32:11Speaker 2: is that is as good as it cats for for
- 32:12Speaker 2: bar pizza.
- 32:14Speaker 1: I just like to tease because everybody that's like als
- 32:17Speaker 1: from Sharon, everybody that's from this this area talks about
- 32:21Speaker 1: town spa like it's you know, like pizzeria Regina or
- 32:25Speaker 1: something like that, like it's the best pieces they've ever had.
- 32:28Speaker 1: So I just like to tease them, like you go
- 32:33Speaker 1: to the to the yeah frow with spas around here,
- 32:38Speaker 1: but yeah spa al right, cheeseburger posse. Does Land Larison
- 32:44Speaker 1: make the team? This is my guy Land there, Larison Island.
- 32:49Speaker 1: I still put Larison on the team as of right now.
- 32:52Speaker 1: I was a little underwhelmed by the spring. I'm not
- 32:54Speaker 1: gonna lie. I wanted to see a little bit more
- 32:56Speaker 1: burst and explosiveness, a little bit more pass game ability
- 32:59Speaker 1: than what we saw. But I still would say right
- 33:01Speaker 1: now that Larison's the favorite favorite in the clubhouse to
- 33:05Speaker 1: be the third running back with Would you agree with that?
- 33:07Speaker 2: Yeah, based on what we saw this spring. I also
- 33:09Speaker 2: just think he has good special team's ability, which is
- 33:11Speaker 2: what's ultimately going to get that role won. Yeah, so
- 33:16Speaker 2: I'll I lean Larison right now. But I'm very lightly
- 33:19Speaker 2: putting that in pencil. I'm hardly writing that in sharpie.
- 33:22Speaker 1: All right, similar question about a similar kind of Red
- 33:25Speaker 1: Shirt player. This is from U Batter Batter.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Let me guess either Brock Lampy or C. J. Deprie.
- 33:32Speaker 1: No close, though, Brayden Swinson yeh, he's.
- 33:36Speaker 2: Gonna have to make the team. Now, don't enough edge rushers.
- 33:38Speaker 1: Braiden Swinson heading into camp? Where where is our meter?
- 33:42Speaker 1: Braiden Swinson?
- 33:43Speaker 2: Just in terms of players we're watching, Braiden Swinson is
- 33:47Speaker 2: gonna have a spotlight on him because we don't know
- 33:49Speaker 2: where you know, we know if he's on the field,
- 33:52Speaker 2: Accus will be behind at least if he's on the field,
- 33:54Speaker 2: we don't know where Lander will be. So it's Draymond Jones,
- 33:58Speaker 2: Elijah Ponder, who's probably aroational player, and then who.
- 34:03Speaker 1: Sama Jones, Elijah Ponder, Harold Landry.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Right, But Lander and Akis are question marks.
- 34:09Speaker 1: So then the fourth guy comes down to So the
- 34:12Speaker 1: so Swinson Q Hutchins.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Obviously they drafted late Xavier Holmes, Amari Gainer, Jesse Luketta.
- 34:19Speaker 2: They need Swinston to take a jump and look a
- 34:21Speaker 2: different coaching staff. But we saw Josh Huche kind of
- 34:23Speaker 2: do it. We saw Anthony Jennings do it. It can
- 34:25Speaker 2: be done. Ed rusher is not one of those positions
- 34:28Speaker 2: like wide receiver. If you don't produce as a rookie,
- 34:30Speaker 2: you kind of write the guy off. But you know,
- 34:33Speaker 2: where's my confidence level? The whole thing on him coming
- 34:37Speaker 2: out of college that we heard was it was a
- 34:38Speaker 2: coachability issue. That's why he fell in Jaredy. We heard
- 34:41Speaker 2: Mike Smith and Mike Rabel, but really Mike Smith rave
- 34:44Speaker 2: about how his approach has changed, his mentality has changed
- 34:48Speaker 2: coming in this year. He has the talent. We know
- 34:51Speaker 2: he is the talent. If he really has kind of
- 34:53Speaker 2: changed his outlook and maybe last year was a wake
- 34:55Speaker 2: up call for him. He ends up on the practice squad,
- 34:57Speaker 2: he gets passed by an undrafted guy, and Elijah Ponder,
- 35:00Speaker 2: if that's the wake up call, I'm you know, then great,
- 35:03Speaker 2: then he's gonna put the work and he has the
- 35:05Speaker 2: talent he can play. I'm excited. I think he's a
- 35:07Speaker 2: really exciting opportunity for him, and excited it as somebody
- 35:10Speaker 2: follows the team knowing the talent that he's gonna be
- 35:12Speaker 2: given this opportunity. But I gotta see it.
- 35:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Maturity questions coachability is a good one, just sort
- 35:19Speaker 1: of understanding how to be a pro, how to be
- 35:21Speaker 1: an adult in this world. Those types of things are
- 35:24Speaker 1: focus like you know, all that kind of stuff and
- 35:26Speaker 1: everything in the spring. You know, I know that everybody
- 35:30Speaker 1: is in the best shape of their life.
- 35:31Speaker 2: This time of year, Alex.
- 35:32Speaker 1: But everything in this in the spring has been positive.
- 35:34Speaker 1: On the Brandon Swinson front, it'd be interesting to see.
- 35:37Speaker 1: I think, you know, he's still a young guy. Turns
- 35:39Speaker 1: twenty four on yeah, Saturday, four July. That points out
- 35:43Speaker 1: to me a little bit with his rush is that
- 35:45Speaker 1: he's a little linear. He's a little stiff and robotic
- 35:49Speaker 1: with his rush, like I wish he was a little
- 35:50Speaker 1: bit more fluid. It's kind of like, you know, if
- 35:52Speaker 1: you can bind him and Q Hutchins together. Q Hutchon
- 35:55Speaker 1: has the bend in some of that twitch to his movements,
- 35:58Speaker 1: but maybe not quite the size that Aden Swinton has.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Braden Swintonson's a little bit stiffer. So I'm interested to
- 36:04Speaker 1: see if you know, how many does he have sort
- 36:08Speaker 1: of that twitch and the bend and you know, that
- 36:10Speaker 1: pure speed ability to kind of compliment some of the
- 36:13Speaker 1: other tricks in his bag to be a more well
- 36:15Speaker 1: rounded guy. Those are all things that I think, you know,
- 36:18Speaker 1: Braden Swinton needs to prove this summer. But I kind
- 36:21Speaker 1: of he's sort of not the forgotten guy, but just
- 36:23Speaker 1: a guy that was so behind the scenes last year
- 36:25Speaker 1: that we really just haven't seen him since training camp
- 36:28Speaker 1: of last summer, so it'll be interesting to see a
- 36:30Speaker 1: couple more than we'll wrap it up. This is from
- 36:32Speaker 1: Pat's May one two three. How should the Patriots use
- 36:36Speaker 1: Travon Henderson next season? And do you anticipate an increase
- 36:40Speaker 1: in production after losing steam a bit towards the end
- 36:42Speaker 1: of the season. The biggest thing for me with Travon Henderson.
- 36:45Speaker 1: I know a lot of people talk about his consistency
- 36:48Speaker 1: as a runner. Can you hit more singles and doubles
- 36:50Speaker 1: instead of just the home runs as a runner? I
- 36:53Speaker 1: actually don't really care as much about that element of
- 36:55Speaker 1: it because I think that he's always going to be
- 36:57Speaker 1: a big play runner. I'm more interested in can he
- 37:00Speaker 1: take a next step in the passing game? Can he
- 37:03Speaker 1: be a better pass blocker? Can he be a better
- 37:05Speaker 1: route runner? Can he be a real impact player as
- 37:09Speaker 1: a pass catcher. Because he's got the break, the speed,
- 37:12Speaker 1: and the explosiveness to be a real game breaker as
- 37:14Speaker 1: a receiver out of the backfield, But the pass blocking
- 37:19Speaker 1: didn't translate as a rookie from the college to the pros.
- 37:22Speaker 1: Couldn't stay on the field for that reason, I'm less
- 37:25Speaker 1: concerned about the fact that he's got a lot of
- 37:27Speaker 1: like zero and one yard runs and then a bunch
- 37:29Speaker 1: of seventy yarders. I want to see him round out
- 37:32Speaker 1: his game as a pass catcher. That's the type of
- 37:35Speaker 1: player that I want him to be as a big
- 37:37Speaker 1: play guy. Can we hit him on some wheel routes.
- 37:39Speaker 1: Can you get him up the seam. Can you get
- 37:41Speaker 1: him on a screen coming out of the back of
- 37:43Speaker 1: Remember that Screeny caught at Ohio State in the College
- 37:46Speaker 1: Football Playoff. He took it like seventy yards. Can you
- 37:48Speaker 1: do some more of that kind of stuff and round
- 37:50Speaker 1: out of his game as a pass catcher. That, to
- 37:53Speaker 1: me is where the year two loop could really come from.
- 37:55Speaker 2: For trade. I'm with you getting him involved in the
- 37:57Speaker 2: passing game, but it's going to have to come with
- 37:58Speaker 2: pass blocking, and I think that's why he didn't get
- 38:01Speaker 2: as many opportunities there last year.
- 38:02Speaker 1: It's funny because I remember that I bring this up
- 38:05Speaker 1: a couple of times, so I'm sorry if I keep
- 38:07Speaker 1: repeating it. But last summer we were in Minnesota for
- 38:10Speaker 1: the joint practices against the Vikings, and he caught a
- 38:13Speaker 1: wheel route down the sideline and team and eleven on eleven,
- 38:16Speaker 1: it's like a sixty five yard touchdown on a wheel route.
- 38:20Speaker 1: All twenty two guys on the field, Josh McDaniels, Brian
- 38:24Speaker 1: Flores all looked at each other. We all looked at
- 38:26Speaker 1: everybody and was like, whoa, did you see how fast
- 38:29Speaker 1: he was moving? Holy crap. I mean he had to
- 38:32Speaker 1: have been touching twenty two miles an hour he was moving,
- 38:35Speaker 1: And I just want to see more of that this year.
- 38:38Speaker 1: I get what people are saying that they would like
- 38:40Speaker 1: to see him be more consistent as of between the
- 38:42Speaker 1: tackles runner. I don't know if he's ever going to
- 38:45Speaker 1: be that guy, but if you want him to be
- 38:47Speaker 1: Jamior Gibbs, if you want him to be that kind
- 38:49Speaker 1: of player, it's the passing game that needs to come along,
- 38:52Speaker 1: in my opinion. Last one here, let's do two more,
- 38:56Speaker 1: both kind of related, just to wrap this up, just
- 38:58Speaker 1: so we get to these things.
- 38:59Speaker 2: Alex.
- 38:59Speaker 1: Yeah, resetting our thoughts on both the Kaishon Booty situation
- 39:03Speaker 1: and the Christian Gonzales issue.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Now we're really testing this pre recorded thing because.
- 39:08Speaker 1: We're testing fade a little bit. Yeah, that's why I
- 39:10Speaker 1: saved him for the last one. Okay, so if I
- 39:12Speaker 1: if so.
- 39:12Speaker 2: If these both already happened, thanks for watching.
- 39:15Speaker 1: Thanks for watching.
- 39:16Speaker 2: We'll see it for training.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Kishon Boody. My opinion on Kaishon Booty, and I'm going
- 39:20Speaker 1: to cross sports here for a second, so stay with me.
- 39:24Speaker 1: This is a little bit like Jalen Brown to me, No,
- 39:26Speaker 1: not really if Kishon Boody had a market and I
- 39:30Speaker 1: was crazy about the trade market, where like I felt
- 39:33Speaker 1: like they were going to get this great return back
- 39:35Speaker 1: from kash for Kaishan Boody. Let's say somebody who was
- 39:38Speaker 1: dangling a third round pick Keeveon Thibodeau in a package, done.
- 39:45Speaker 2: Do it right, I would just do straight up.
- 39:48Speaker 1: But I'm not trading Kishon Boody just to trade Kishon Booty, Like,
- 39:52Speaker 1: I'm not doing that just to trade them. And so
- 39:57Speaker 1: my opinion on this has maybe changed a little bit
- 39:59Speaker 1: in that respect. I think that Kaishon Boody's been available.
- 40:02Speaker 1: I think Kashan Boody was available last offseason. I think
- 40:05Speaker 1: Kishon Boody was available this offseason, and they just haven't
- 40:08Speaker 1: gotten a return that they feel comfortable with. So I'm
- 40:11Speaker 1: not setting them out just to trade them, you know.
- 40:14Speaker 1: So if they bring all these guys into camp, and
- 40:16Speaker 1: even if they bring all these guys into the season,
- 40:19Speaker 1: there will be a time when a team gets desperate
- 40:22Speaker 1: and comes calling about Kashan Boody, whether it's at the
- 40:24Speaker 1: end of camp, the trade deadline, whatever the case may be.
- 40:28Speaker 1: If until that point comes, I'm hanging on.
- 40:30Speaker 2: I'm not in a rush to move them by any means.
- 40:32Speaker 2: I'd bring him in to camp, but I think when
- 40:34Speaker 2: you get down to fifty three, that's carrying a lot
- 40:37Speaker 2: of wide receivers and it's gonna be a weird dynamic.
- 40:40Speaker 2: You have a guy that needs to get out there
- 40:41Speaker 2: and make plays in order to earn money, and you
- 40:43Speaker 2: may not be able to give him that opportunity. Unless
- 40:46Speaker 2: I don't know, Evan, unless you think there's a way
- 40:48Speaker 2: where they can run heavy eleven personnel with brown daubs
- 40:52Speaker 2: and Booty.
- 40:53Speaker 1: There's always a way.
- 40:55Speaker 2: It's not their way they can do that, and like
- 40:57Speaker 2: actually be competitive.
- 40:58Speaker 1: It's not the best way to me because there's not
- 41:00Speaker 1: speed on the field.
- 41:01Speaker 2: Right So I would still try to move him by
- 41:03Speaker 2: roster cuts. I think if you get a fourth round
- 41:05Speaker 2: pick for him, even if it's like a fourth for
- 41:07Speaker 2: Booty and a six a pickswap thing. I think that's
- 41:09Speaker 2: ultimately a win because you talking about the value, and look,
- 41:14Speaker 2: I think he's a good player. He's never had more
- 41:15Speaker 2: than six hundred yards. He is essentially a rental or.
- 41:19Speaker 2: You need to give him a new contract, so all faint,
- 41:21Speaker 2: I would I'm not giving him away. I wouldn't trade
- 41:24Speaker 2: him for a seventh at that point. I'd wait and
- 41:26Speaker 2: you know see, but I think it's really tough to
- 41:29Speaker 2: justify keeping him on your roster once you get to
- 41:31Speaker 2: the fifty three man cut. I don't know there's anything
- 41:32Speaker 2: wrong with bringing him to camp. I don't think you
- 41:34Speaker 2: have to do it by then. Like if you're telling
- 41:36Speaker 2: me which needs to get done first, Gonzales easily obviously
- 41:38Speaker 2: that one has to be done by by the first
- 41:40Speaker 2: padded practice. I think if Booty hangs on through August
- 41:45Speaker 2: and then maybe a team gets to roster cuts and
- 41:47Speaker 2: guys gotten hurt and suddenly there's more of a market,
- 41:49Speaker 2: it's worth carrying him through camp. That's we talk about
- 41:52Speaker 2: this a lot when people get mad when they sign
- 41:54Speaker 2: like a second long snapper something in the summer. Ninety
- 41:57Speaker 2: players is a lot one, right, is a lot of players. Yeah,
- 42:02Speaker 2: and there's not that many available this time of year,
- 42:04Speaker 2: because again, every team can keep ninety players. If that's
- 42:08Speaker 2: how you're using your ninetieth spot to keep kish On
- 42:11Speaker 2: Booty ones heve his trade value goes up, that's a
- 42:13Speaker 2: perfectly good and that's not he's the ninetieth player on
- 42:15Speaker 2: the roster. He's better than that. But that's a perfectly
- 42:18Speaker 2: fine use of one of those roster spots at this
- 42:20Speaker 2: time of year.
- 42:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm with you that long term, it doesn't make
- 42:23Speaker 1: a lot of sense, especially because they're not going to
- 42:24Speaker 1: sign him to that second contract most likely, so it
- 42:27Speaker 1: makes more sense to get what you can. I just
- 42:29Speaker 1: think that if they had an offer that they felt
- 42:31Speaker 1: comfortable with, he would already be traded. And the fact
- 42:33Speaker 1: that he he hasn't been traded tells me that the
- 42:36Speaker 1: offers aren't really out there for him, right, And I'm
- 42:38Speaker 1: not just giving them away. So my guess is, and
- 42:42Speaker 1: it's just a guess that they're getting offered like six
- 42:45Speaker 1: or seventh round picks for Kaishan Booty, right, which I'm
- 42:48Speaker 1: not doing. I'd rather just maintain the depth and figure
- 42:50Speaker 1: it out and make it work. But I I if
- 42:53Speaker 1: the team comes calling. I think a fourth round pick
- 42:55Speaker 1: is probably where I would start to be okay with it.
- 42:58Speaker 2: Then I still like if they can increase their linebacker death,
- 43:00Speaker 2: they'd increase their edge depth tight end. I don't know
- 43:03Speaker 2: if the Rams would want to move him for one
- 43:04Speaker 2: of those tight ends. I still think a player for
- 43:06Speaker 2: player trade would be best though.
- 43:07Speaker 1: Okay, last one here a Christian Gonzales. Where do we
- 43:10Speaker 1: think this gets done? When do we think this gets done?
- 43:13Speaker 1: Hopefully it doesn't get done. Well, hopefully it does get done,
- 43:15Speaker 1: but if it has already happened, then just again, just
- 43:18Speaker 1: move along. But where do you think that this ends up?
- 43:22Speaker 2: I think they ultimately get it done. I think that
- 43:24Speaker 2: you just can't claim to be a draft and developed
- 43:26Speaker 2: team and not extend a player like Christiannzalez is this
- 43:28Speaker 2: he is the blueprint of what you're trying to make
- 43:31Speaker 2: your organization, and he's the beginning of that pipeline. Right.
- 43:33Speaker 2: He's drafted before Drake May. So I think they got
- 43:37Speaker 2: to get it done. Maybe it lingers like a day
- 43:38Speaker 2: or two in a camp, but I think they get
- 43:40Speaker 2: it done by call it August first.
- 43:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm cautiously optimistic that this gets done, but by
- 43:44Speaker 1: the time padded practices roll around, which should be that
- 43:47Speaker 1: second week technically of training camp somewhere around August first,
- 43:51Speaker 1: there's a five day ramp up period and then you
- 43:53Speaker 1: get into the padded practices. I'm consciously optimistic that this
- 43:57Speaker 1: leads off training camp in a positive way, that they
- 43:59Speaker 1: can this deal done. That would be great vibes. I
- 44:02Speaker 1: think coming into training camp that they took care Christian
- 44:05Speaker 1: Zales and that's all behind them, you know, wuzzled something
- 44:08Speaker 1: that lingered a little bit over the team in the
- 44:10Speaker 1: spring certainly, So hopefully both those things resolve themselves. Thank
- 44:15Speaker 1: you so much for submitting those male bad questions. We
- 44:18Speaker 1: really appreciate that. So you're listening to this on July eighth,
- 44:22Speaker 1: I will be back on July twenty second, when I
- 44:25Speaker 1: come back Alex for our first live show from my
- 44:30Speaker 1: vacation here will be two days before they yeah, three
- 44:36Speaker 1: days before the Patriots first training camp practice. Officially, we're here.
- 44:41Speaker 1: We made it almost Also, that'll be episode two hundred,
- 44:44Speaker 1: Episode two hundred, so that'd be a big day. I'm
- 44:47Speaker 1: going to enjoy the next couple of weeks, though, I'm
- 44:49Speaker 1: gonna enjoy not being here. I think you guys have
- 44:52Speaker 1: all heard my voice plenty two over the last year.
- 44:55Speaker 1: I think it's good for all of us to maybe
- 44:58Speaker 1: take a break for each other for a little bit.
- 45:00Speaker 1: But I'll see you guys in a couple of weeks
- 45:02Speaker 1: with training camp right on the horizon. See you guys then,
- 45:04Speaker 1: thanks for watching.
- 45:07Speaker 2: Hey this is Deuce. Thanks for tuning into the show.
