- 1:02God rewards those who have faith to seek Him.
- 1:06This truth is proclaimed in Hebrews 11.6, which says, But without faith it is
- 1:11impossible to please Him, for he that cometh to God must believe that He is,
- 1:15and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.
- 1:19Walking with God and pleasing Him requires faith. For those who draw near to
- 1:23God, it is essential to believe that He exists and that He rewards those who diligently seek Him.
- 1:29Faith is rooted in the assurance that He draws near to those who draw near to Him.
- 1:34Join Kim in this podcast of Woman at the Well Ministries as she takes us on
- 1:39a journey through the Scriptures, revealing the rewards of a life that exercises faith.
- 1:44We're going to talk about today faith and the rewards of faith.
- 1:51And in Hebrews chapter 11 and verse 6, this is what he says.
- 1:56He says, But without faith, it is impossible to please him.
- 2:01For he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder
- 2:07of them that diligently seek him.
- 2:10We have to believe who he is.
- 2:15And we all want to please the Lord. that's a
- 2:18a common thought that we want among
- 2:21ourselves he's done so much for us and
- 2:25he continually does so much for us and he
- 2:28never leaves us or forsakes us so we want to have this feeling that we're doing
- 2:34the right thing but so often we allow doubt and fear to creep into our lives
- 2:43in such a way that it chips away at our faith.
- 2:47In fact, the truth be told, our faith is already chipped away if we're feeling doubt and fear.
- 2:55He says that we're to be anxious for nothing, but with everything,
- 2:58with prayer and thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God,
- 3:01and the peace of God shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
- 3:06And in Isaiah 26, 3, he says, Thou will keep him in perfect peace,
- 3:11whose mind is stayed on thee, because he trusteth in thee.
- 3:16And he tells us in Proverbs 3, 5, 6, and 7, to trust in the Lord with all thine
- 3:21heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding.
- 3:23In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
- 3:28Be not wise in thine own eyes, depart from evil, and fear the Lord.
- 3:34We as Christians have a very innate understanding that we are to have faith in the Lord.
- 3:41Because as for by faith are you saved, through faith, and that not of yourselves.
- 3:45It is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast,
- 3:49we're told in Ephesians 2, 8, 9.
- 3:53Yet, I don't think we guard our faith. I think for many of us,
- 3:58we just assume it's going to be there.
- 4:00And so, therefore, we don't give it much thought or much effort to maintain
- 4:07it. But when you look at Hebrews 11, 6, he says, without faith,
- 4:12it's impossible to please him.
- 4:14So we have to realize that faith is of a very strong importance.
- 4:19It's the foundation of our salvation.
- 4:23It's the foundation of our relationship with Jesus Christ.
- 4:28So just as we maintain other parts of our Christian walk, we need to maintain our faith.
- 4:36Now, the Bible says that the Lord will give us faith if we ask.
- 4:41But I also know from personal experience that our experiences give us faith.
- 4:47We know that what he's done for us before, he certainly can do again.
- 4:52We know that that absolute horrible storm we were going through that we were
- 4:56pretty sure was going to take us down and he carries us through.
- 5:00We understand that in the next storm, he has the same ability,
- 5:04the same willingness, and we will be taken care of.
- 5:09But we don't think about that. When we head first into a storm,
- 5:14we're not thinking about all the amazing things he's done up until this point.
- 5:20Now, many of us are experiencing the blessings that at one time we truly prayed for.
- 5:26We earnestly were seeking, and we are experiencing those blessings.
- 5:32We're experiencing those answers to prayers on a regular basis.
- 5:35But when the next storm rises, somehow we forget that.
- 5:40Somehow we don't remember what God has already done for us.
- 5:45And I believe part of that is that we don't seek him.
- 5:49I don't think we're actually looking for him in all of the different places
- 5:55and situations in our lives.
- 5:58My parents used to ask us at the end of the day, what were your God sightings?
- 6:02And so we were trained to look for the hand of God in our lives.
- 6:06We were trained to look at his ability to provide for us.
- 6:12We were trained to see him in all things.
- 6:17And when we begin to see that God truly never leaves us or forsakes us,
- 6:22that he's truly orchestrating this amazing plan for our life that he tells us
- 6:27in Jeremiah 29 11, when we begin to understand that,
- 6:31that's when our faith begins to grow.
- 6:35When we get our head in the book and our nose in the book of the Bible,
- 6:40when we get our heart conditioned to listen, when we pay attention to 2 Timothy 2.15 that says,
- 6:48study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
- 6:52rightly dividing the word of truth.
- 6:54When we read the promises of God, then we begin to watch our faith grow.
- 7:00But I believe that faith really needs us to seek Jesus.
- 7:06We need to seek his presence. We need to seek his word.
- 7:11We need to seek understanding, but we also need to be looking for his presence
- 7:18and acknowledging what God is constantly doing for us so that we have all this
- 7:25data stored in our hearts and our minds so when the next storm comes,
- 7:30we realize that it's okay.
- 7:32And instead of consistently screaming about how big our storm is,
- 7:37we could take the time to tell the storm how big our God is.
- 7:42Because we will be looking at the storm with the confidence that God will supply our every need.
- 7:47We'll be looking at the storm with the knowledge that God will take care of us.
- 7:53We will have the full assurance that we are in the cleft of the rock of the
- 7:57hand of jesus christ we can crawl up underneath the feather of his wings and
- 8:02we can experience the rest and the peace that only jesus can give,
- 8:08but we have to seek him. And so today I want to bring a lesson to you out of Luke chapter 19,
- 8:18because it's my belief that the greatest example of seeking God and watching
- 8:29the reward flow straight to you that I see in scripture comes out of Luke 19.
- 8:37Now, many of you may know this because you may know about Zacchaeus,
- 8:41who was a wee little man, and a wee little man was he.
- 8:45He climbed up in a sycamore tree for the Lord he wanted to see.
- 8:49And Jesus looked up into the sycamore tree and he said, Zacchaeus,
- 8:53you get down from that tree where I'm coming to your house today.
- 8:59That is a song that many of us have sung since we were very small.
- 9:05But I wonder how many of us have really looked at the spiritual truths that
- 9:11are displayed by Zacchaeus and Jesus in this account in Luke chapter 19, 1 through 10.
- 9:20So that's what I'm going to do today in your hearing. So let's begin to read
- 9:24in Luke chapter 19, beginning in verse 1.
- 9:27It goes like this. And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.
- 9:32And behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.
- 9:39And he sought to see Jesus, who he was, and could not for the press,
- 9:44because he was little of stature.
- 9:46And he ran before, and he climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him,
- 9:51for he was to pass that way.
- 9:54And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and he saw him,
- 9:58and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down, for today I must abide at thy house.
- 10:07And he made haste, and he came down, and received him joyfully.
- 10:11And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying that he was gone to be a guest
- 10:14with a man that is a sinner.
- 10:16And Zacchaeus stood and said unto the Lord, Behold, Lord, the half of my goods
- 10:22I give to the poor, and if I have
- 10:24taken anything from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.
- 10:30Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house,
- 10:36for as much as he also is a son of Abraham, for the son of man has come to seek
- 10:42and to save that which was lost.
- 10:45Zacchaeus was a transformed man because he saw Jesus.
- 10:50He invited Jesus in and he allowed Jesus to do his perfect work.
- 10:56Zacchaeus was seeking Jesus. Now let's think a little bit about who Zacchaeus was.
- 11:03Zacchaeus made his money by taking excess money from people who owed their taxes.
- 11:12So Zacchaeus was a tax collector, and he was a good one.
- 11:17And he earned his wages by how much money he could siphon off of these people
- 11:23in addition to the taxes he was to have to pay on their behalf to the Roman government.
- 11:29So Zacchaeus was actually robbing these people in plain sight.
- 11:35So I can assure you that no one in that crowd really liked Zacchaeus.
- 11:42In fact, Zacchaeus was an outcast, yet he was prominently known and he was rich.
- 11:49And so I want you to stop for just a moment and look at that concept and fact.
- 11:56Zacchaeus had everything the world could offer him, no doubt.
- 12:01Yet Zacchaeus was lonely, and Zacchaeus did not have the most important thing
- 12:08every person has to have, which is a personal relationship with Jesus.
- 12:13But there was Something that stirred Zacchaeus. Something that made him want to see Jesus.
- 12:24And I want to submit to you that the Holy Spirit...
- 12:29Is at work today in your life and in my life and the Holy Spirit is stirring
- 12:35you to come to Jesus with that problem, that issue,
- 12:41that situation, that circumstance.
- 12:45He's asking you to come to Jesus that you might find the peace that Jesus offers.
- 12:51He's drawing to you those thoughts that he's putting into your heart that are
- 12:56prompting you to turn towards Jesus, that's the Holy Spirit drawing you.
- 13:02And scripture tells us in John chapter 6 and verse 44, these words,
- 13:07no man can come to me except the father, which has sent me draw him and I will
- 13:14raise him up at the last day.
- 13:17God, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus are working in concert to draw you closer to the Lord.
- 13:27James 4.8 says, draw nigh unto me, and I will draw nigh unto you.
- 13:31In other words, if you take a step towards Jesus, he's running towards you.
- 13:36Jesus wishes that none should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
- 13:41He also said that he came to give you life and that you would have life more abundantly.
- 13:48And as a result, Jesus is constantly and consistently drawing you.
- 13:55The Holy Spirit is pulling you towards him.
- 13:58And just like he did Zacchaeus, where Zacchaeus wanted to see Jesus.
- 14:04Jesus is drawing you to come to him for the answer to your question and the
- 14:11provisions for your needs.
- 14:13So Zacchaeus realizes there's a great big crowd of people and he's unable to
- 14:20see Jesus but that did not stop him Zacchaeus climbed up in a sycamore tree.
- 14:30Zacchaeus was seeking the Lord
- 14:34our opening verse of Hebrews 11
- 14:376 said that without faith it's impossible to
- 14:39please him and you must believe that he is and
- 14:43that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him
- 14:46i want you to see that zacchaeus and the sycamore tree in this event is a tremendous
- 14:54example of someone who knows who jesus is he doesn't have a relationship with
- 15:01him until after he meets him but he knew of him,
- 15:06And there was a stirring in him. And that stirring in him was able to match
- 15:14with the knowledge that he had, which just a teeny bit of faith,
- 15:18that Jesus was something special,
- 15:22that Jesus was someone he needed to meet.
- 15:26Now, other places in Scripture, we read about faith as a mustard seed and that
- 15:31it allows us to be able to move mountains in our lives.
- 15:36In this account of Zacchaeus, in Luke chapter 19, what you're seeing is a mountain being moved.
- 15:46Zacchaeus is going to be transformed completely.
- 15:50Zacchaeus is going to have the mountain of sin debt that he owed completely
- 15:54paid by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
- 15:58And each of us has that opportunity to do the same.
- 16:03But it's not just salvation that
- 16:06he allows faith to to give us but
- 16:10he also gives us the gift of his presence he
- 16:13gives us the gift of his provision he gives us the gift of his wisdom he gives
- 16:20us the gift of eternal life and
- 16:23abundance in this life but we must be like Zacchaeus and we must seek him.
- 16:31The Bible says in Jeremiah 29 11, these words.
- 16:37He says, for I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord,
- 16:42thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
- 16:46The Lord has a plan for you, and it's to save you and to care for you and to
- 16:54allow you to have the most abundant life possible.
- 16:57But some of us are living in misery, like Zacchaeus was.
- 17:02Zacchaeus before that day, though he had all of earth's wealth.
- 17:06He was miserable. Something was off.
- 17:11I'm afraid that some of us, even those of us who know Jesus as Savior,
- 17:16something's off because we're not seeking him.
- 17:21Our faith is not strong enough to believe that he is, that he's a rewarder of
- 17:27them that diligently seek him.
- 17:29But in Jeremiah 29, 13, he says this, And ye shall seek me and find me,
- 17:36when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
- 17:42Zacchaeus was searching for Jesus.
- 17:46He was willing to do whatever it took to be in his presence,
- 17:56Zacchaeus didn't have the advantage of knowing what we know,
- 18:01in 1 Corinthians 2.9 he says that I have not seen an ear have not heard what
- 18:06lies in store for them that love the Lord Zacchaeus didn't understand that in
- 18:11my father's house are many mansions and if it were not so, I would have told you.
- 18:14I go to prepare a place for you that where I am, you may be also in John 14, 1 through 3.
- 18:20But Zacchaeus did know Jesus was something special.
- 18:25He did know that Jesus had the ability to make a change in someone's life.
- 18:33Jesus to him was someone who brought good news and good tiding.
- 18:40Zacchaeus knew that Jesus, and in his presence, there was love and peace and joy.
- 18:50Zacchaeus knew that Jesus had something that he needed, and his faith in that
- 18:57belief was so strong that it caused him to act.
- 19:02As we look at this account in luke 19 1 through 10 he says that he ran before he was eager,
- 19:12and he wasn't going to let anything stop him and he climbs up into the sycamore
- 19:17tree because that's where the lord was going to pass,
- 19:21We have an absolute guarantee that when you call upon, he will answer you and
- 19:26show you great and mighty things that we don't know, according to Jeremiah 33.3.
- 19:31If we don't have iniquity in our heart as we are praying and letting our requests
- 19:36be made known unto God, we have the assurance that he will hear us.
- 19:40Yet I believe that many of us do not exercise that faith.
- 19:46Zacchaeus was exercising what he knew to be true,
- 19:49and he wasn't going to let anything keep him from seeing
- 19:52jesus and it says and when
- 19:55jesus came to the place in verse 5 he
- 19:59looked up and saw him jesus is ever looking for you jesus is already there in
- 20:07the midst of your situation and if you doubt me i take your mind back to the
- 20:11accounts of when the storms are raging and the boat is tossing and peter looks
- 20:16out and he sees this form on the waters.
- 20:19And he says, Lord, if that be you, bid me come. And the Lord bids him come.
- 20:24Peter did not have to bid Jesus to be in the storm. He was already there.
- 20:30All he had to do was acknowledge Jesus's presence. And let me tell you,
- 20:34when he did, Jesus took care of him.
- 20:38As his face dwindled again, because rationale and reality set in his mind,
- 20:44and he began to sink because he knew he couldn't walk on water,
- 20:47and he took his eyes off of Jesus, and he looked left or right, and he sank.
- 20:51But Jesus was there, and when Peter lifted up his arms and said,
- 20:56Lord, save me, it was then that immediately Jesus reaches down and picks him
- 21:01up, puts him in his arms, and takes him safely to the boat.
- 21:05Jesus is already in your situation.
- 21:08And when you exercise your faith, he's going to not only meet you in your situation,
- 21:15he's going to safely carry you through.
- 21:21Zacchaeus is getting ready to have the encounter of a lifetime.
- 21:25He looks up and he sees him and Jesus says unto him, Zacchaeus,
- 21:30make haste and come down for today I must abide at the house.
- 21:35So Jesus is saying, come down.
- 21:38Meet me here, come to me. He's already there, but he said, exercise your faith and come to me.
- 21:47Some of us are at this place in our situation, in our questions, in our issues.
- 21:54Jesus is standing in the midst, but he's waiting for you to come to him and
- 22:00ask him for help to get his acknowledgement.
- 22:05Encouragement and some of us instead of doing
- 22:07what we see Zacchaeus does in verse 6 Zacchaeus says and he made haste and he
- 22:13came down and received him joyfully some of us are still in that situation and
- 22:20we're wondering really is God really calling me.
- 22:26Is God really asking me to do this? Oh my goodness, I don't think I can do that.
- 22:33I don't think, surely that's not what he's asking.
- 22:38So like Eve, we are lingering in a conversation, not with Jesus, but with the devil.
- 22:45Because the devil's trying to distract you and detour you and to keep you from
- 22:50receiving that which God has for you.
- 22:53But God is asking you to take a step, and he's going to draw near.
- 22:57He's asking you to exercise your faith, because without faith,
- 23:02it is impossible to please him, and you must believe that he is,
- 23:06and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
- 23:10Jesus is standing in the midst, and Zacchaeus, he doesn't linger.
- 23:16It's his faith that brought him up the tree. It's
- 23:19the same faith that's bringing him down the tree that hope
- 23:22that joy that that need to see jesus
- 23:26that faith that if he saw jesus something would be different he is looking at
- 23:31him and he's coming down because the king of kings and the lord of lords knows
- 23:36his name and he's speaking to him no doubt zacchaeus was not accustomed to that.
- 23:43He couldn't have been accustomed to strangers speaking him kindly.
- 23:49He probably could not believe that this man called Jesus, this amazing person, knew him by name.
- 23:58Friend, he not only knows your name, he knows the number of hairs you have on your head.
- 24:04Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.
- 24:09From Genesis to Revelations, the greatest love letter ever written is written
- 24:14specifically that you may know him and that you might believe.
- 24:19So today, let's become more like Zacchaeus.
- 24:25Let's allow our faith to be exercised.
- 24:29Let's learn of him and depend upon him. So he makes haste and he comes down.
- 24:37And then there's always the naysayers.
- 24:41And sometimes it's our fear of the naysayers, our fear of the public,
- 24:47our fear of what will people think that keeps us from being face to face with Jesus.
- 24:54God said, thou shalt have no other gods before me. That means pride.
- 24:59That includes the approval of others.
- 25:03That includes not wanting to stick out in the crowd. it's not always a hobby
- 25:10or a thing sometimes it's an attitude.
- 25:14Zacchaeus didn't care. He had run forward in front of the crowd,
- 25:18doing all he could to get himself in the front of Jesus.
- 25:22He climbs up in a sycamore tree, and he's waiting for Jesus to pass by.
- 25:27And Jesus comes by, recognizing the exercising of Zacchaeus' faith, and it pleases him.
- 25:37And he says, Zacchaeus, come on down. And Zacchaeus doesn't take a moment of
- 25:42hesitation. He comes straight down.
- 25:46The crowd, they're murmuring and saying that he was gone to be a guest with a man that's a sinner.
- 25:52We are all sinners and have come short of the glory of God. There is none righteous, no, not one.
- 26:00Your sins may be different than
- 26:01someone else's sin, but don't judge them because your sin is different.
- 26:06Sin is sin, and God does not distinguish or categorize sins.
- 26:11Anything that is done without faith is said to be sin in the book of Romans.
- 26:17And without faith, it's impossible to please him. So we all come to Jesus as
- 26:22the woman at the well did in John chapter 4, completely empty, in need of a Savior.
- 26:30Thirsting for something to satisfy, Just as he did for the woman in John chapter
- 26:364, we read in Luke chapter 19 that he's satisfying and feeling Zacchaeus.
- 26:44Zacchaeus didn't care about the crowd.
- 26:48Jesus certainly didn't. Because your relationship with Jesus is personal.
- 26:54There's two involved. You and him.
- 27:00And you have access to the Trinity, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
- 27:05God sent His Son, His Son gave His life, and the Holy Spirit indwells in us
- 27:12to teach us, to lead us, to guide us, and to direct us.
- 27:16The only applause and approval we need is that of nail-scarred hands,
- 27:21the hands of Jesus, who died for us.
- 27:27Exercising faith is believing in the truth. When you really know who God is,
- 27:32that's why it says you must believe that he is.
- 27:35When you know who he is, faith comes
- 27:39easy. but the flesh and the world and distractions, it eats at our faith.
- 27:47But we need to purposely maintain our faith by keeping our eyes on Jesus.
- 27:54Thou shalt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee,
- 27:59because he trusted in thee. Isaiah 26.3.
- 28:04Maintain our faith. And so Zacchaeus stood and said unto the Lord,
- 28:10here's the transformation, folks.
- 28:12He robbed people in plain sight. But in verse 8, Zacchaeus says,
- 28:18Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor.
- 28:24And if I've taken anything from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.
- 28:33Fourfold, four times.
- 28:36Zacchaeus had repented zacchaeus was
- 28:40a changed man meeting jesus and coming into his presence and having allowing
- 28:47him to transform him resulted in a permanent 180 change friends,
- 28:57that's what we need he tells us in verse 9 that in jesus said unto him this
- 29:03day is salvation come to thy house, for as much as he also is the son of Abraham.
- 29:08For the son of man has come to seek and to save that which is lost. We are all lost.
- 29:14But unfortunately, some of us who've given our heart to Jesus Christ have not
- 29:19sold out our whole being to him.
- 29:22We've not turned over our whole self so that we understand who he is.
- 29:29Zacchaeus. He didn't care what the public thought. and
- 29:33when he was convicted of his wrongs he was willing to make right and he was
- 29:37even willing to go over and beyond because the love of jesus makes us more than
- 29:42we ever were before the generosity of the love of god makes us be generous to
- 29:46others we know that we are his disciples because we have love one for another.
- 29:53Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.
- 29:59Friends, there's a difference in our lives when we allow Jesus to be God.
- 30:05Titus 2.11-13 says this, actually 14 says this,
- 30:11For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
- 30:15teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lust,
- 30:21we should live soberly righteously and
- 30:25godly in this present world the
- 30:28transformation doesn't happen as we
- 30:31are leaving earth and going to heaven the transformation
- 30:35happens when he justifies us
- 30:38through his shedding of his blood by our faith in jesus
- 30:41christ and old things are passed away and behold
- 30:44all things are become new this my friend
- 30:47is what happened to zacchaeus and
- 30:51he was never the same because he was looking for
- 30:53that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of the great
- 30:56god and our savior jesus christ who gave himself
- 30:59for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity if you are dabbling in sin
- 31:05his blood and his death was not meant for that he said to redeem us from all
- 31:12iniquity and to purify unto himself a peculiar people.
- 31:19Zealous of good works.
- 31:22Jesus bought you with the price of his blood.
- 31:27He holds you in the strength of his hand, and he cares for you with the love of his heart.
- 31:37Jesus said, but without faith, it's impossible to please him.
- 31:43So I submit to you this today, this issue, this problem, whatever it is that's
- 31:52bothering you, whatever it is that's making you doubt, give it to Jesus.
- 31:59Recognize it, name it, and acknowledge it. and then submit and humble yourselves
- 32:06under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.
- 32:10Faith is the foundation of salvation.
- 32:14Faith is the foundation of your godly walk.
- 32:19Faith deserves you to be cognizant, to maintain it.
- 32:26Faith changes things. Prayer changes things, and prayer changes me.
- 32:32I leave you with this passage of scripture found in Romans chapter 12 verses 1 and 2.
- 32:42This, my friend, is what Zacchaeus experienced because he exercised his faith.
- 32:50Romans 12, 1 and 2 says this, I beseech you therefore, brethren,
- 32:55by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice,
- 32:59wholly acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
- 33:04Give him everything you have and be not conformed to this world,
- 33:09but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is
- 33:15that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
- 33:21Jesus loves you. This I know, for the Bible tells me so.
