- 0:00Speaker 1: Third and final hour of the program. Here glad to
- 0:02have you with us for this final hour of the
- 0:04program on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone. Craigway,
- 0:07Cameron Parker with you up until five o'clock. Coming up
- 0:12in a few minutes. Gene Watson, our MLB insider from
- 0:14the Chicago White Sox front office.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Joins us. We got his predictions last week.
- 0:20Speaker 1: And they were mostly on Paar.
- 0:26Speaker 2: What was his World Series prediction again?
- 0:28Speaker 1: Oh, he's got the Padres and the Guardians. Okay, so
- 0:32far that's holding up. Now.
- 0:33Speaker 2: We did have the Astros winning a day last year.
- 0:37I think he had.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Was it Rangers Dodgers or Rangers Phillies, Rangers Phillies, I think.
- 0:41Speaker 1: It was Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's got Padres and Guardians
- 0:47and it doesn't look too bad right now. Guardians, both
- 0:50of them swept the Wild Card series. Padres and Dodgers
- 0:53are tied at a game apiece after sanding he was
- 0:55ten to two drubbing of the Dodgers last night at
- 0:57Chavez Ravine. The Guardians one game one of their Division
- 1:02Series seven or nothing over the Tigers.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Right now it is scoreless.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Uh and that ballgame is in the top of the
- 1:10fourth inning and the Tigers have a runner at second
- 1:13with one out, and that inning actually a runner at
- 1:16third with one out as it is scoreless there. But
- 1:19we'll talk more about that with Gino coming up as well.
- 1:24We've we've talked quite a bit about college football. We'll
- 1:26hear more from Steve Sarkaisian this hour. But with regard
- 1:28to the NFL, what was the most surprising result to
- 1:33you yesterday on to day that featured some surprises.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Oh, that's a good question.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Huh mmm.
- 1:41Speaker 3: I think what we saw in San Francisco. I mentioned
- 1:48earlier in the season it could be the year from
- 1:50hell for San Francisco in the offseason with all of
- 1:53of course, you know the contract disputees going on with that,
- 1:56you CA and Trent Williams, and you know CMC was injured,
- 1:59but he said in like week two, oh I would
- 2:02you know, if the game was today, I would play.
- 2:04And here we are in what now going in the
- 2:07week six, and you still have no idea if he's
- 2:09coming back. And you know San Francisco now two and
- 2:13three didn't score a single point in the second half
- 2:16against the Cardinals defense. That you look at, it is
- 2:20not all that great. So I think the alarm bells
- 2:22really and every team in the NFC West right now
- 2:25are going off. I mean, you mentioned Rams, who easily
- 2:28could be three and one, four and oh as supposed
- 2:30to one and four, but same thing. I mean, Matthew
- 2:32Stafford's out throwing the Uber Drivers. I mean, the team
- 2:35is so banged up injury wise. And then Seattle inexplicably
- 2:40loses to the New York Giants at home and just
- 2:44a really weird game. And of course, you know they
- 2:46played Monday night, and you know they had that back
- 2:49and forth game, that Seattle loss in which Gino threw
- 2:52for like seven hundred yards against Detroit, and you know,
- 2:54maybe you can factor that in just an emotional letdown game.
- 3:00Speaker 2: The NFC West.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Greg just it's a really really weird division to kind
- 3:03of figure out.
- 3:04Speaker 2: And now, of course it's eighteen weeks.
- 3:06Speaker 3: It's only week five, and we're probably gonna look back
- 3:08at the first month and just you know, throw it
- 3:11out the window because that's usually how it goes. But
- 3:14my top biggest result is the biggest surprise from the
- 3:17weekend I think was just San Francisco now falling the
- 3:19two and three.
- 3:20Speaker 1: All right, complete this sentence for me. The Washington Commanders
- 3:24are hm M.
- 3:27Speaker 3: I don't know, because on one hand, four and one
- 3:31leading the NFC East offenses look good, Jaydon Dennis look good.
- 3:35But also you know they've beaten the Browns. Okay, I'm
- 3:40not going to give you that beating the Giants, not
- 3:41going to give you that. Cincinnati could be a good win.
- 3:44And then Arizona, we know, who knows they might be
- 3:46the best team in the NFC East. But the jury
- 3:48I think is still out in Washington, Craig, I want
- 3:50to see it. Let me see this team continue to
- 3:52win games like that deeper into November before we go
- 3:56ahead and anoint the Commanders as the best NFC East team,
- 4:00which they very might be.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Here's what they have coming up, and tell me, just
- 4:05off the top of your head, if you think it's
- 4:07win or loss. Next Sunday they go forty miles up
- 4:12by ninety five, they play the Ravens in Baltimore.
- 4:14Speaker 3: How is this game a noon game? This is not
- 4:17the Sunday night football game. I'm gonna lean Baltimore. But hey,
- 4:21you know every Baltimore is coming off that weird win
- 4:24against Cincinnati.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Then this is a three to zero five game, they
- 4:27host the Panthers. I hope they win that game. Okay,
- 4:31then they have a Newon game at home against the Bears.
- 4:33There you go, Jayden Daniels, killb Williams. You're gonna probably
- 4:37Washington would probably be favored. But hey, Caleb looked a
- 4:39lot better against Carolina this last Sunday. So who knows
- 4:43where it will be at in two weeks.
- 4:45Speaker 2: And then they and then they play at the Giants. Yeah,
- 4:50when they're you're thinking at home.
- 4:52Speaker 1: I would just say this if I were completing that sentence,
- 4:54I would say the Commanders are a real contender in
- 5:00the East simply because of their schedule and the way
- 5:05the East is shaken down. Now, do they still have
- 5:08tough games up?
- 5:09Speaker 2: Yep.
- 5:09Speaker 1: They play the Steelers at home, they got to go
- 5:11to Philly obviously, then they have the Cowboys coming in.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Then you know, then they got the Times come in.
- 5:16They have to go to New Orleans.
- 5:19Speaker 1: They have the Eagles at home, the Falcons at home,
- 5:22and they finish on New Year's well, right after New
- 5:30Year's Day, it's on the fifth when they finish at
- 5:32Jerry World against the Cowy can you imagine fact comes
- 5:34down to a playoff spot between those two or for
- 5:38the NFC East.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Do you have any Commander fans in your life, Craig.
- 5:42Speaker 1: When I grew up in North Carolina, my dad had
- 5:46become a then Washington Redskins fan because it was the
- 5:49closest NFL team in the early sixties. The Falcons didn't
- 5:53come into existence in nineteen sixty six, and they were awful.
- 5:55And it's about equal distant Greensboro is to both Washington,
- 5:58d c.
- 5:58Speaker 2: And to Atlanta.
- 5:59Speaker 1: It's about, you know, five hours or so either way
- 6:03to both. And Washington got good with George Allen. They
- 6:06went to the Super Bowl and all that stuff. So
- 6:09he but but I'll tell you the minute he moved
- 6:11to Texas, he changed like that. He became a Cowboys fan. Yep, yep,
- 6:15really did. I had my brothers. One of them kind
- 6:20of liked him, but he was more of a Jets
- 6:22fan because of Joe Amath. My oldest brother, second oldest
- 6:25brother was a Packer fan and then became a Steeler fan,
- 6:28and now he's kind of a Cowboys fan. And my
- 6:31younger brother was always a Cowboys fan well, even when
- 6:34we were growing up North Carolina.
- 6:35Speaker 2: And of course I was the god duck out being
- 6:36a Rams fan.
- 6:38Speaker 1: But but but I had people all around me who
- 6:42were Washington fans. I did you know when they went
- 6:46by Washington football team, one of the one of their
- 6:50fans was Linda. She liked them because she liked the
- 6:53name Washington football team. In fact, I even got her
- 6:55a long sleeve T shirt that's a Washington football team
- 6:58on it. Once they changed the Commanders that she's done
- 7:01with them. That's why her eyes kind of lit up
- 7:03when I told her about the brand new NHL team
- 7:06in Salt Lake City and so moving up from Phoenix.
- 7:09They're no longer the Phoenix Tidies. Aren't they going to
- 7:11be called the Utah Hockey Club? She kind of got
- 7:14excited about that.
- 7:16Speaker 2: I have one Commander's fan in my life. This season.
- 7:20Speaker 3: It's like if you have a friend who hasn't had
- 7:21a girlfriend in like five years and he finally gets one,
- 7:24He's like, oh, this, this is incredible. This is how
- 7:26it is for Commanders fans because they have not been
- 7:28good since what the RG three season that was twenty twelve.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Yeah, and here's another reason why it's easy to against them.
- 7:34They've had horrible, horrible despicable ownership. Despicable ownership. So finally
- 7:41that stuff is being cleared off the books. But they've
- 7:43played in a sewer. It's a terrible stadium. It aged
- 7:49very quickly and not well at all. And you know
- 7:52all the stories about what was it the human waste
- 7:58draining all kind of stuff in this rain storms and
- 8:01it was a mess. When Texas played Maryland Office, I
- 8:04heard the stands were flooding, right, people, and the worst
- 8:07broadcast booth I've ever worked in a bar none. Oh,
- 8:10I'm told you hadn't been to Vanderbilt yet because it's
- 8:15under construction, and you hadn't done a game in the
- 8:17Orange Bowl. We haven't done a game there at hard Rock.
- 8:23It's supposedly on the corner and low and really bad
- 8:26and all that other kind of stuff. But you know whatever,
- 8:29we'll see if that happens anyway. Yeah, it's interesting to
- 8:33see how there's now there are some commanders. Hence we'll
- 8:35see where it goes from here. All right, Up next,
- 8:37we talked some baseball of the postseason variety with Geene Watson,
- 8:40our MLB insider, on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the
- 8:43zone of the Iart Radio app.
