- 0:00Luke Chapter 9. Let us pray.
- 0:06Holy Lord, you're so holy. God Almighty, we thank you,
- 0:13Lord. Yes, Jesus, allow us to come in
- 0:18to the throne room. Allow us to see your face, for
- 0:23you are holy, holy and holy. Yes, Lord, we thank you God for
- 0:30the nail scars in your hands. We thank you God for your side
- 0:35that was opened and poured out the blood in the water.
- 0:39We thank you God, that your eyes are like fire and your hair is
- 0:44like wool. And the voice, the sound of many
- 0:47waters. Thank you God for the two edged
- 0:51sword that comes out of your mouth.
- 0:53Thank you God for your robe that's drenched in the blood as
- 0:58you tread the wine press. Thank you, God, that on your
- 1:02thighs, faithful, true. Thank you, God, that you are the
- 1:07King of kings and the Lord of Lords.
- 1:09We worship you, Jesus. We only want to know you,
- 1:13Christ, and we only want to know you crucified.
- 1:18So yes, Lord, reveal to us eternal truths from everlasting
- 1:23to everlasting, glory from on high.
- 1:27Surround us in your Shekinah glory this morning.
- 1:30God, speak to us mightily and boldly.
- 1:33God, let us see you in a new facet, in a new light.
- 1:38God put us on the mountain. God, let us see you
- 1:42transfigured. Let us see you, God, in all your
- 1:46glory, glory, glory, descend upon us.
- 1:50Father, wreck us. Ravage us with your love,
- 1:57Father. Undo us.
- 1:59God, we only want to see you and Lord, out of the overflow, let
- 2:05it go into our family and out of the overflow, let it go into our
- 2:10neighborhoods and out of the overflow.
- 2:12God, I pray that we'll be poured out.
- 2:16Father, I pray in the name of Jesus that you, Lord, will be
- 2:21honored, that you, Lord, will be glorified in the highest.
- 2:27Yes, King, Jesus, we love you. We love everything about you.
- 2:32Show us more. God, take us to new heights and
- 2:37let us sense the depths of your love for this world and for your
- 2:42people. And God, I pray that we will be
- 2:46more like Christ today and we were yesterday.
- 2:50Yes, Lord, sanctify us and consecrate us.
- 2:53God, let us consecrate our temples.
- 2:56God, we remove all of the unclean, foul things that we
- 3:01have allowed in to our eyes and our ears and our minds and our
- 3:06hearts. God, I pray that we have the
- 3:09strength to get rid of anything that is holding us back.
- 3:13Father, all the noise and the commotion.
- 3:15God, all of the distractions. God, I pray in the name of Jesus
- 3:20that we will throw them out of this temple God, and your
- 3:25Shekinah glory will fill this temple.
- 3:28God, I pray that we will be filled with the Holy Spirit,
- 3:32Lord, from the top of our head to the bottom of our feet.
- 3:36Father, I pray in the name of Jesus, you'll give us strength
- 3:40from on high, power from on high.
- 3:43Father, I pray that You will give us this very day Our Daily
- 3:48Bread and show us, God, what it is that You want us to do today.
- 3:54Lord, we are acknowledging You this morning and we are
- 3:57expecting that you are going to direct our steps.
- 4:02Lord, it is you and it is you, and it is you alone that we are
- 4:08here for. And so, Father, hide me and hide
- 4:11my words. Hide my thoughts, Father, and
- 4:14let this be all about King Jesus.
- 4:17Yes, Holy Spirit, you teach us. Holy Spirit, you guide us.
- 4:22I decrease as you increase. Hide this word in our hearts,
- 4:27God, so that we might not sin against you.
- 4:30We love you, King Jesus, and it's in your holy and precious
- 4:33name that I pray. Amen.
- 4:40Well, let's start in verse one. Then.
- 4:46He called his 12 disciples together and gave them power and
- 4:50authority over all devils and to cure diseases.
- 4:55You know that same flowing power is available to you, friend.
- 5:00This is not something that was just for them, friend.
- 5:05We have all authority in the name of Jesus Christ.
- 5:09The darkness flees, Diseases are cured.
- 5:13We have the healing power available to us friends, through
- 5:19the name of Jesus Christ to and he sent them to preach the
- 5:24Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.
- 5:28That is still our mission objective today, friends, go and
- 5:33preach the Kingdom of God, letting them know that the
- 5:36leaves on the fig tree have appeared.
- 5:39The birth pains are here. We can see that the head is
- 5:45crowning. We can see that Jesus's second
- 5:49advent is imminent. Friends 3 And he said unto them,
- 5:54Take nothing for your journey, neither staff nor script,
- 5:59neither bread nor money, neither have two coats apiece.
- 6:03So here, verse 3. This is one of those verses that
- 6:07a lot of people want to pick out and they want to try to become
- 6:12hostile towards the Bible. And I want you to know that it
- 6:16is saying if you have a staff, take it, but if you do not, do
- 6:22not go and buy one. This was a sense of urgency
- 6:25here. They are told not to go and buy
- 6:28another staff, but if they have one to take it.
- 6:33Take nothing for your journey. So he's saying that the the
- 6:37worker is worth his wages and they were to go and rely upon
- 6:43God and not rely upon their own resources for and whatsoever
- 6:49house you enter into there, abide and then depart.
- 6:54So he's saying look for these houses of peace.
- 6:58Look for these places of peace. 5 And whosoever will not receive
- 7:05you when you go out of that city, shake off the very dust
- 7:09from your feet for a testimony against them.
- 7:13So as we're looking for these places of peace, if anyone is
- 7:16hostile towards you, shake the dust off your feet as you leave.
- 7:236 And they departed and went through the town's preaching the
- 7:27gospel and healing everywhere. You can see them now, these
- 7:32pairs of two, and they're going out and they have all authority
- 7:36that has been given to them by Jesus Christ.
- 7:40And they watched him and the way that he worked, and then he gave
- 7:44them that power from on high. And then they were able to go
- 7:47out and do the very things that Jesus was able to do.
- 7:52And you know in that that very name is all the power of all the
- 7:57universe, of everything seen and unseen.
- 8:00Friends, in the name of Jesus Christ, there is no power
- 8:08greater than the name of Jesus Christ.
- 8:12It is the name above all names. Friends, bring that name upon
- 8:16your lips today and watch how the healing flows, watch how the
- 8:23unclean spirits are driven out. It is by that name, friends, the
- 8:29name above all names, Jesus Christ, call upon that name
- 8:33today and be saved. 7 Now Herod the Tetchart heard of all that
- 8:39was done by him, and he was perplexed because that it was
- 8:45said of some that John was risen from the dead.
- 8:49This is the world's response to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
- 8:54They are perplexed. Friends, what can you do with
- 8:57it? Friends, you can't do anything
- 8:58with it. It's here to stay.
- 9:00Heaven and earth shall pass away.
- 9:02But not one of these words, friends.
- 9:06You can't do anything with this man.
- 9:08He's here to stay. And the whole world has been
- 9:11turned upside down by Jesus Christ and we're still talking
- 9:17about him today. And you can't discount and
- 9:19discredit and you cannot remove the word of God from the scene.
- 9:25It's here to stay. And this is the world's
- 9:28response. Is this perplexity, friends?
- 9:33Because as much as you don't want to believe it, and as much
- 9:37as you don't want to be accountable, and as much as you
- 9:40don't want to have to give an account for all the sins that
- 9:45you are doing and have done and will ever do, you cannot get rid
- 9:51of them. Your conscience is there bearing
- 9:55witnesses against you. And the Holy Spirit is drawing
- 10:00many men to Himself today, and you cannot even come to the
- 10:05Father unless the Spirit draws you.
- 10:07And we should not blasphemy the Spirit when He's drawing us to
- 10:11the Father. And if we were to die in that
- 10:14blaspheming of the Spirit, we would be eternally separated
- 10:18from God. And that is no place that any
- 10:20man, woman, or child would ever want to go.
- 10:24Nobody in their right mind would ever choose to go go to hell.
- 10:28This is a place where the worm never dies, the fire is never
- 10:32quenched, friends. This is a place of weeping and
- 10:35the gnashing of teeth, friends. This is a place where there are
- 10:39levels of torment, friends, and no man would ever choose to go
- 10:43there. And we make a joke and we make
- 10:45light of it, and we think it's a party and we think our friends
- 10:48are going to be there, friends. But that is not the case.
- 10:53This is somewhere where you would die a billion deaths over
- 10:59and never be able to die. And the rich man just begged for
- 11:04Lazarus to dip his finger in water and to touch his tongue
- 11:08because he was in torment there. And this is the world's response
- 11:17to the gospel is perplexity because you cannot discount it
- 11:24and you cannot discredit it and you cannot get rid of it.
- 11:29It's here A and of some that Elijah had appeared and of
- 11:38others that one of the old prophets was risen again.
- 11:42Here they are. They're trying to marginalized
- 11:45Jesus Christ. They're trying to put him in a
- 11:47box. And you cannot put this man in a
- 11:50box. He is the great I am.
- 11:53When you try to figure God out, he will sidestep you friends,
- 12:00and the moment you think you have them figured out, He will
- 12:03show you a new facet of himself. He is the great I am.
- 12:08We cannot box him up and sell him now and inherit, said John.
- 12:14Have I beheaded? But who is this of whom I hear
- 12:18such things? And He desired to see him.
- 12:21You know, Jesus is not a novelty.
- 12:25Jesus is not an amusement. Friends, the Spirit of God is
- 12:31the Shekinah glory that rests in it is completely undone, and the
- 12:36ministers are not even able to minister because of the glory of
- 12:40God that descends upon the house.
- 12:42Friends, He is not here for our amusement.
- 12:48He is here for our salvation. He is here for those who will
- 12:54receive Him will receive Him friends.
- 12:57And we are chosen and predestined before the
- 13:00foundations of the earth. And He knows who belongs to him.
- 13:04And He makes it about his business to go out and to find
- 13:07those, and to get those to come into the fold.
- 13:11And his sheep hear his voice, and we obey him, and produce
- 13:14much fruit. 10 And the apostles, when they were returned, told
- 13:21him all that they had done, And he took them, and went aside
- 13:27privately into a desert place belonging to the city, called
- 13:33beside a. You know these apostles, these
- 13:40messengers for God. They came back and they were so
- 13:46excited that the demons were subject to them.
- 13:49And Jesus tells them, do not think that it is a great thing
- 13:55that the demons are subject to you, but rejoice that your names
- 14:01are written in the Lamb's book of life and that is Our Calling
- 14:06today. Just marvel at the fact that
- 14:08your name is written in the Lamb's book of Life.
- 14:13There are many all around you, even your closest can, even the
- 14:16ones that you love dearly. Those are the ones who you wish
- 14:21that they could see this Jesus that you talk of and that you
- 14:26love and that you've caught a glimpse of.
- 14:28And you wish it and you pray for him.
- 14:32But we should be so eternally grateful that we are here and we
- 14:38are in the fold, and we need to live our lives in a way that
- 14:42bring many to salvation. Friends 11 And the people, when
- 14:49they knew it, followed him and received, and he received them,
- 14:53and spoke unto them of the Kingdom of God, and healed them
- 14:57that had need of healing. Praise God.
- 15:00Hallelujah. He is the Great Physician, He is
- 15:04our Jehovah Rapha. He is the great Healer.
- 15:10He is our everything. And if we will come to him and
- 15:15put ourselves on the operating table, he will take out our
- 15:19heart of stone and put in it a new heart and a clean heart.
- 15:24And he will give you a clear conscience, friends, and we can
- 15:29stand, and we can gird up our loins, and come into the holiest
- 15:32of holy places, and dine and suck with him. 12 And when the
- 15:38day began to wear away, then came the 12 and said unto him,
- 15:44Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and
- 15:48country roundabout, and lodge and get victuals.
- 15:52For we are here in a desert place.
- 15:55Here the disciples are still looking at the natural.
- 15:58Here they're still looking and being reasonable, and they do
- 16:02not realize that they are in tune with the very person who's
- 16:06spoke all of existence into existence, just with the breath
- 16:12of his mouth. God spoke, and it was so.
- 16:17And we need to know that all power and all authority has been
- 16:23given to Jesus Christ. And if you have seen him, you
- 16:27have seen the Father. 13 But he said unto them, You give them
- 16:32something to eat. And they said, we have no more
- 16:35but 5 loaves, 2 fish, except we should go and buy meat for all
- 16:40this people. So they're saying we don't have
- 16:43enough to feed these people, we don't even have enough for
- 16:46ourselves. We'd have to go buy it.
- 16:50Here they are looking at the natural, they're missing the
- 16:54spiritual, they're missing that they are connected to God
- 17:00Almighty in the flesh. 14 For they were about 5000 men.
- 17:09And he said to his disciples, make them sit down by 50s in a
- 17:13company. This is a great banquet, and
- 17:16they are to sit down and what is Jesus going to do?
- 17:2015 And they did so and made them all sit down.
- 17:25Sometimes we need to just sit in his presence.
- 17:29Sometimes we need to quit running the race and just sit
- 17:34and be refueled friends. 16 Then he took the five loaves and the
- 17:39two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them and
- 17:43broke and gave to the disciples to sit before the multitude.
- 17:48So here is a miracle happening. Jesus is able to multiply all of
- 17:54it. 17 And they did eat, and we're all filled, and there was
- 17:59taken up the fragments that remain to them. 12 baskets.
- 18:05So here you can see that Jesus is miraculously providing enough
- 18:10for everyone to be full and to have leftovers.
- 18:14And it's no different when we give what we have to the Lord.
- 18:19He multiplies it. And you will be surprised,
- 18:22friends, whenever you have more than what you gave.
- 18:30This is the principle of God. This is God math, and God math
- 18:35is much better than any math that you and I could ever
- 18:39perform of moving decimals and all of our human reasoning.
- 18:46God can do anything, friends, and do not discount the
- 18:49miraculous. 18 And it came to pass, as he was alone praying,
- 18:57his disciples were with him, and he asked them, saying, whom say
- 19:02the people that I am? So look at this scene, friends,
- 19:06don't miss it. Jesus is alone, but he's brought
- 19:09us. 12 Jesus is alone, but he brought us. 12 He wanted them to
- 19:17see what he has been about, when he would leave, when he would
- 19:22get up early in the morning and be missing in action.
- 19:25And they were looking for him and he was meeting with the
- 19:29Father here. He takes them into that meeting
- 19:32space with the Father. And then immediately after he
- 19:37gets done praying, he turns and asks them, who do the people say
- 19:44that I am? He is the great I am, that's who
- 19:47he is. 19 They answering said John the Baptist.
- 19:52Some say Elijah, and others say that one of the old prophets is
- 19:57risen again. 20 And he said unto them, But whom say you that I
- 20:04am? Peter answering, saying, The
- 20:08Christ of God? This is the most paramount
- 20:12question that you will ever be asked in your entire life.
- 20:16Who? Do you say that Jesus is?
- 20:20Is he just a religious leader that had a lot of really good
- 20:25sayings? Is he a prophet?
- 20:29Is he the greatest prophet that ever lived?
- 20:33Is he one of the many prophets? Who is Jesus?
- 20:40And how we answer that is paramount for our eternity,
- 20:45forever and ever, a billion times over forever.
- 20:50And when we've been there 10,000 years, we have no less days.
- 20:58Who is Jesus? And I pray that you can answer
- 21:04the way that Peter did, that he is the long-awaited Messiah.
- 21:11He is the Christ, the anointed. He is the very Son of God, the
- 21:15only begotten. He is God Incarnate, God in the
- 21:19flesh. He is our salvation.
- 21:24He's our Redeemer. He is our everything.
- 21:31He is our very next breath in our lungs, our very next
- 21:35heartbeat in our chest. He is the great I am.
- 21:42He created everything out of nothing, friends, and He
- 21:48sustains everything by the breath of his mouth. 21 And he
- 21:55straightly charged them and commanded them to tell no man
- 21:59that thing. It was not yet his time.
- 22:02He knew the perfect timing that he must go into Jerusalem for
- 22:07the week of the Passover. He knew exactly when it was that
- 22:10he was going to hang on that cross.
- 22:13It was all talked about beforehand between the Father
- 22:17and the Son and the Holy Ghost. Praise God.
- 22:20Hallelujah for this community, Praise God.
- 22:24Hallelujah. You can see that they were in
- 22:27communion with each other. Friends 22 saying the Son of Man
- 22:35must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief
- 22:39priests and the scribes, and be slain and be raised the third
- 22:43day. He cannot make it any more
- 22:45clear. He cannot make it any more
- 22:48plain. This is the most simple,
- 22:51childlike elementary, elementary school rendering of what is
- 22:56about to happen. He tells them line by line,
- 23:00friends, what is to happen and they miss it.
- 23:06You and I miss it every day. He tells us what is the most
- 23:10paramount thing that we should be doing, and we do not do those
- 23:13things. Instead, we make it all about
- 23:15pleasure and pleasantries. We make it all about self and
- 23:19money. We make it all about this world
- 23:23and the little life that He has given us, and we miss the fact
- 23:28that we should be sowing seed and we should be storing up
- 23:34treasures. We miss the whole point of the
- 23:38whole matter of the whole life that God has given us, which is
- 23:42to glorify God Almighty and to serve him with all of our heart
- 23:49and all of our mind and all of our strength, to love the Lord
- 23:53thy God, and to love our neighbor as ourselves, and to be
- 23:58content with food and clothing. Friends. 23 And he said to them
- 24:05all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and
- 24:13take up his cross daily and follow me.
- 24:16This is a living sacrifice. This is imminent death.
- 24:21This is death to self. We have to lay down all of our
- 24:26own wants and cares and desires and presuppositions of the way
- 24:29that we think that this life should go.
- 24:32We must lay everything down, all of it, all of our cares and
- 24:37anxieties, all of our needs. We lay them all down knowing
- 24:44that death is on the table, friends.
- 24:46Persecution is on the table, friends, But we count the cost
- 24:53before we ever take up the cross. 24 For whosoever will
- 25:00save his life shall lose it, But whosoever will lose his life for
- 25:05my sake, the same shall save it. So here's a a group of passages
- 25:13that are paramount to the Christian walk in the Christian
- 25:17faith. And we would do well to digest
- 25:21them, ruminate on them, to meditate upon them, to pick them
- 25:25apart, to really sit and to think about what Christ is
- 25:29trying to teach us. All of the Old Testament points
- 25:33to this moment, and every book after the four Gospels point
- 25:38back to this moment. And we need to lock in and truly
- 25:42read these letters in red. We need to really, truly
- 25:46meditate on what Christ is telling us.
- 25:49This is everything, friends. This is paramount.
- 25:54Friends. We must obey these words.
- 26:01And he tells us if you're trying to hold on to your life, you're
- 26:06trying to make it all about this world and for here and for now,
- 26:11and you die without him, you will be eternally separated from
- 26:16him forever. But if we follow Him, and we
- 26:21accept Him and we have Him, and we give ourselves completely,
- 26:26totally, utterly over to Him, nothing held back, and we we are
- 26:32to be persecuted and we are to be put to death, in that we will
- 26:36have eternal life forever and ever in His presence.
- 26:40Friends 25 For what is a man advantage if he gains the whole
- 26:49world and lose himself? Be castaway.
- 26:53Think about it, friends. If you owned the entire world,
- 26:59what would it even matter? When you die and you're cast
- 27:03into Hellfire, you're cast into utter darkness and separation
- 27:12from God Almighty, where you're tormented for a billion times
- 27:17over and you can never die. What does it profit you if you
- 27:22were to own the entire world? 26 For whosoever shall be
- 27:30ashamed of me and of my words of him shall the Son of man be
- 27:35ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory and in his
- 27:40Father's, and of the holy angels.
- 27:44Pay attention, friend. This is turning point.
- 27:54This is when Jesus is telling us that we do not need to be
- 28:00ashamed of what the Bible says. We need to stand on the Bible.
- 28:05We need to drive the stake into our belief that we will not be
- 28:11moved and we will not be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
- 28:16For it is the power, friends, to save and to bring people into a
- 28:23saving relationship with God Almighty through His Son Jesus
- 28:28Christ. It is the gospel and nothing
- 28:30needs to be added or taken away for people to be saved.
- 28:35All the power is in the Bible, All the power is in the gospel
- 28:41of Jesus Christ. And we do not need to try to
- 28:45make any kind of excuses for Jesus and what He really meant
- 28:56when He said whatever it is that He said.
- 28:58We don't need to try to interpret it all.
- 29:02We just need to obey what it is that He said.
- 29:07And we err grievously whenever we try to cherry pick verses
- 29:15that match our theology of what we think that God should be
- 29:21like. And we make God in our own
- 29:23image. And we do not take the full
- 29:28counsel of God's Word, which is why it is so important that each
- 29:34and every single one of you learn the entirety of God's Word
- 29:40from Genesis to Revelation. Nothing added and nothing
- 29:43subtracted. Friends, we need to know the
- 29:46entirety of God's Word so that we can be safeguarded against
- 29:51all the things in this world that are trying to drag us away,
- 29:55trying to drag us away from the truth of God Almighty.
- 29:59And what does His Word say? And we need to obey those very
- 30:04things, and we do not need to be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus
- 30:09Christ. And because He is coming in
- 30:13glory and He is coming with all of the holy angels.
- 30:18Verse 27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing
- 30:23here which shall not taste of death until they see the Kingdom
- 30:27of God. So we know that he's talking
- 30:29about this mount of transfiguration that Peter,
- 30:34James, and John are going to get to go up to see the glory of
- 30:38God. They're going to get to see the
- 30:40Kingdom of God. 28 And it came to pass about 8 days after these
- 30:47sayings, he took Peter, John, and James and went up into a
- 30:51mountain to pray. So we know that from the other
- 30:55gospels it states six days, but we know that in the Jewish
- 31:01calendar they would count the time before and the time after
- 31:07those six days, which is where Luke gets his eight days, that
- 31:12there was a piece of the two bumper days attached to those
- 31:16six. So he says about 8 days and
- 31:20perhaps they are going up on Mount Hermon here and they're
- 31:26going to pray. 29 And he and as he prayed, the fashion of his
- 31:31countenance was altered and his clothing was white and
- 31:35glistering. So imagine that, friends, this
- 31:40Shekinah glory coming to rest upon Jesus Christ, and we can
- 31:44also see that it was coming out of him, not coming to rest upon
- 31:51him, but it was actually exuding from His countenance.
- 31:57Friends. 30 And behold, there talked with him two men, which
- 32:04were Moses and Elijah. So Moses represented all of the
- 32:09law and Elijah is representing all of the prophets here.
- 32:14And we can see that this is a continuation friends, that the
- 32:19Bible itself from Genesis to Revelation is 1 big love letter,
- 32:24friends. It is all congruent and it all
- 32:28matches up. And here God is putting His
- 32:31stamp on the gospel of Jesus Christ in the New Testament that
- 32:36you and I hold by sending Moses and Elijah.
- 32:40And you can see that God is the God of the living and not of the
- 32:44dead, and that no one ever really dies with God, and that
- 32:48every person who's ever been born is born or will be born is
- 32:52still alive somewhere, friends. And we will spend eternity.
- 32:57And there's only two places. There's heaven and hell.
- 33:00There's not a third option. 31 who appeared in glory and spoke
- 33:09of his decease, which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.
- 33:14So you can see the subject matter of why they came.
- 33:18They did not just come for the three disciples, for the three
- 33:21apostles to see and to marvel and to be entertained.
- 33:26No, they came to discuss with Jesus all of the details of what
- 33:31He must accomplish on His way to Jerusalem.
- 33:34And he set his face like a Flint friends towards Jerusalem,
- 33:41knowing that he would be murdered by his own people, that
- 33:46he would be murdered and they would not accept him.
- 33:49He knew that. 32 But Peter and they that were with him were
- 33:55heavy with sleep, and when they were awake, they saw his glory
- 34:01and the two men that stood with him.
- 34:03Imagine that you see in the garden of Gethsemane they fell
- 34:06asleep here on the Mount of Transfiguration.
- 34:09They fell asleep. And what a word to you, and what
- 34:12a word to me. Friends, we do not need to fall
- 34:15asleep. We need to wake up.
- 34:17Oh, Sleeper, we need to take the whole word to the whole world.
- 34:24We have our marching orders, we have the great commandment, and
- 34:29this is a Great Commission. To go therefore, into all the
- 34:34world, Judea, Samaria, to Jerusalem, we need to go and
- 34:39take the whole word to the whole world, Friends, in any way,
- 34:44shape or form, we need to go. Whether that is on a plane, a
- 34:49train, an automobile, whether that is to your neighborhood
- 34:53friends, to start a Bible study in your house, whether that is
- 34:57on whatever platform that God has allowed you to have.
- 35:02We need to take the whole word to the whole world and not be
- 35:06ashamed of Him, Friends 33. And it came to pass, as they
- 35:17departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good
- 35:23for us to be here, and let us make 3 tabernacles, one for you
- 35:28and one for Moses, and 1:00 for Elijah.
- 35:31Not knowing what he said, we need to make sure that when we
- 35:36speak for the Lord that we know what what it is that we believe,
- 35:43that we have our own convictions, and that we're not
- 35:46just rallying behind the coattails of someone else.
- 35:52Because you will get tripped up in your theology, you will get
- 35:56tripped up in your doctrine if it is not something that is
- 36:00clear to you. We don't need to just speak of
- 36:04the things that we don't understand.
- 36:06Make sure you're standing on the solid rock on the cornerstone
- 36:11and make sure you have your convictions that you are not
- 36:15willing to budget from, which is that Jesus is Lord, Jesus is the
- 36:24Son of God, and there is no other salvation apart from Jesus
- 36:29Christ. 34 While he thus spoke, there came a cloud and
- 36:37overshadowed them, and they feared as they entered into the
- 36:41cloud, the kind of glory of God coming where they're not even
- 36:44able to speak. 35 And there came a voice out of the cloud saying,
- 36:49This is my beloved son. Hear him.
- 36:53He's God is telling Peter, listen, he's saying the same
- 37:01thing to you and to me. Be slow to speak, be quick to
- 37:05listen, make sure you are slow to anger as well. 36 And when
- 37:11the voice was passed, Jesus was found alone, and they kept it
- 37:16close and told no man in those days any of those things which
- 37:21they had seen. Jesus told them to keep it from
- 37:24the other nine and to keep it until after he departed. 37 and
- 37:29it came to pass it on the next day when they were come down
- 37:33from the hill, much people met him.
- 37:36And isn't that the model of ministry?
- 37:39We are filled on the mountaintop, but we must go down
- 37:44and be poured out. Friends and people await us, and
- 37:48they're messy and people have all their problems.
- 37:52And as you are filled with him, don't be surprised when you have
- 37:58to get poured out just like Jesus did. 38 And behold, a man
- 38:04of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beg you, look
- 38:07upon my son, for he is my only child. 39 In Lois spirit took
- 38:15him, and suddenly cried out, and it tore him, and he foamed
- 38:19again, and bruising him hardly departed from him.
- 38:22So this is an evil spirit that was making him convulse. 40 And
- 38:27I begged your disciples to cast him out, but they could not, and
- 38:32Jesus is going to tell them why they could not. 41 And Jesus
- 38:37answered and said, O faithless perverse generation, how long
- 38:41shall I be with you and suffer? You bring your Son here.
- 38:45So Jesus is looking upon the disciples and saying, Hey, you
- 38:50have lost the faith, and you must increase your faith.
- 38:53And it's not about the size of your faith, it's about who your
- 38:56faith is in. And they were two concerned with
- 39:00who is going to be the greatest in the Kingdom.
- 39:03And they had let pride creep in friends.
- 39:06And pride will absolutely put the faith that you have into a
- 39:15box and it will absolutely quench the spirit whenever we
- 39:19are so incredibly prideful, when we allow our spiritual pride to
- 39:25creep in. There's no place for faith in
- 39:29that. They cannot live in the same
- 39:32house. And Jesus says, how long will I
- 39:35be with you? He knows that he must go to the
- 39:38cross and to be ascended to the right hand of the Father, but he
- 39:42will send a helper and we will do greater things. 42 And as he
- 39:48was yet a coming, the devil threw him down and tore him.
- 39:53Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, healed the child,
- 39:57delivered him again to his Father. 43 And they were all
- 40:02amazed at the mighty power of God.
- 40:05But while they wondered everyone at all things which Jesus did,
- 40:09he said unto his disciples. 44 Let these sayings sink down into
- 40:16your ears, for the Son of Man shall be delivered into the
- 40:20hands of men. Here it is again.
- 40:24Jesus is making it plain. Friends, Jesus is speaking to
- 40:28them as plainly as humanly possible.
- 40:31He even tells them to lock in. He says, let this sink down into
- 40:37your ears. Open your ears up, open your
- 40:40eyes up, friends, open your heart up.
- 40:42Friends, receive the word of God.
- 40:45Take it for face value and watch how the Lord He just will give
- 40:51you your purpose. He will completely undo you
- 40:55friends. He will wreck you and ravage you
- 40:58with His love. Friends, open yourself up to
- 41:03Him. 45 But they understood not the saying, and it was hid from
- 41:07them that they perceived it not, and they feared to ask him of
- 41:11that saying. 46 Then there arose A reasoning among them which
- 41:15should be the greatest. 47 of Jesus, perceiving the thought of
- 41:19their heart, took a child, and set him by him. 48 And he said
- 41:23unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name
- 41:27receives me, and whosoever shall receive me receives him that
- 41:31sent me. For he that is least among you,
- 41:35the same shall be great. So you can see Jesus's plan,
- 41:39that the greatest will be the least, and the least will be the
- 41:41greatest. And when we try to puff
- 41:43ourselves up, we will be pushed back down.
- 41:46But if we take the road of humility, God will exalt us in
- 41:50due time. 49 And John answered and said, Master, we saw one
- 41:55casting out devils in your name, and we forbade him, because he
- 41:59follows not with us. 50 And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him
- 42:04not, for he that is not against us is for us.
- 42:08There is no spiritual Switzerland, friends, that there
- 42:12is no middle ground here, friends, it you either for him
- 42:16or you are against him, you either lukewarm or you are ice
- 42:20cold. There is no middle ground.
- 42:26You cannot just play both sides. You must choose, choose you this
- 42:32day whom you will serve. But As for me, in my house we
- 42:36will serve the Lord. 51 And it came to pass, when the time was
- 42:40come that he should be received up, that he steadfastly set his
- 42:44face to go to Jerusalem. 52 And he sent messengers before his
- 42:48face, and they went and entered into a village of the Samaritans
- 42:52to make ready for him. 53 And they did not receive him because
- 42:56his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem.
- 43:00So you know the back story here, these Samaritans were the half
- 43:03breeds, and the Jews, the pure Jews, hated them.
- 43:07And so there was such a level of division with these two that
- 43:19they could not get along. And they saw that Jesus was
- 43:22going to go to Jerusalem, and here they would not receive him.
- 43:2654 And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said,
- 43:31Lord, will you, that we command fire to come down from heaven
- 43:36and consume them, even as Elijah did.
- 43:39So here they're trying to do what Elijah did and call upon
- 43:44God to send fire from heaven to completely lick them all up. 55
- 43:50But he turned and rebuked them and said, You know not what
- 43:53manner of spirit you are of. So he sees that it is not coming
- 43:58from a pure heart that they had hatred for these Samaritans. 56
- 44:03For the Son of Man has not come to destroy men's lives, but to
- 44:06save them, and they went to another village.
- 44:10So we know that Jesus chose to reveal his divinity to a
- 44:16Samaritan woman at the well Friends.
- 44:19It's where he announced that he was the Messiah.
- 44:24So we see that Jesus has a heart for the world.
- 44:27We can see that the division and the racism is not from God,
- 44:32friends. That is from the devil.
- 44:34And we would do well to kick it to the curb.
- 44:36We would do well to get rid of it in its infancy.
- 44:40We would do well not to allow ourselves to sink into that
- 44:44deplorable state of mind. We need to know where all of
- 44:50that is coming from. It's hatefulness. 57 And it came
- 44:54to pass that as they went in the way, a certain man said unto
- 44:58him, Lord, I will follow you wherever you go. 58 And Jesus
- 45:03said unto him, Foxes have holes, birds of the air have nests, but
- 45:08the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.
- 45:10He's telling them to count the cost.
- 45:13Before you say that you will follow him, do not go and follow
- 45:16him half heartedly, or you will be offended by the way that he
- 45:20lives. 59 And he said unto another, Follow me.
- 45:24And he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
- 45:2860 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead, but go you
- 45:33and preach the Kingdom of God. He's saying here that our
- 45:38responsibility to him supersedes any of our earthly
- 45:42relationships. Friends. 61 And another also
- 45:46said, Lord, I will follow you, but let me first go bid them
- 45:50farewell, which are at home at my house. 62 And Jesus said unto
- 45:55him, No man, having put his hand to the plow and looking back, is
- 46:01fit for the Kingdom of God. We know here that Jesus is
- 46:05telling this soon to be disciple that if he wants to follow him,
- 46:12he must count the cost. If we think that we are going to
- 46:17follow the Lord Jesus Christ, just know that there will be
- 46:22many, even within the own 4 walls of your own house who will
- 46:26not understand the calling. And they'll try to talk you out
- 46:30of it and try to talk you back off the ledge.
- 46:32And they'll try to talk you back into worldly thinking, this
- 46:36worldly wise man who comes along and tries to talk us into the
- 46:41way that the world works. And they'll call it shrewdness
- 46:47and they will call it being responsible with all of our
- 46:54wealth and possessions. But we need to know that when we
- 46:58put our hand to the plow, sometimes God calls us to
- 47:03steward his riches, to steward his blessings.
- 47:09But sometimes God calls us to be poured out, friends.
- 47:15And we need to know that once we put our hand to the plow, we
- 47:19cannot look back like Lot's wife did.
- 47:23And just remember, when he's talking about the rich man, he
- 47:28says that it is easier for the camel to go through the eye of a
- 47:31needle than it is for a rich man to make it into heaven.
- 47:36And then the disciples asked, well then who can be saved?
- 47:39And what did he say? He said with man it is
- 47:42impossible, but with God all things are possible.
- 47:45So we need to know the context of that passage, friends, that
- 47:52we cannot follow God thinking that we're going to get a bunch
- 47:55of earthly riches. We need to follow Him because
- 47:58He's worthy. We need to follow Him because
- 48:03we've counted the cost and we know that it is a great
- 48:06adventure and He could lead us anywhere in the world for His
- 48:11name's sake. And it's all about Him, and it's
- 48:13not about us. And with food and with clothing,
- 48:18be content. Godliness with contentment is of
- 48:22great gain, friends. And with your pay, be content.
- 48:29We need not worry about where our next meal is coming from.
- 48:34For He feeds the birds of the air.
- 48:37And yes, they get up and they go, and they find it.
- 48:39And if you do not work, you do not eat.
- 48:42Praise God, Hallelujah, Paul was a tent maker.
- 48:45Yes, we need to put our hand to the plow, which denotes work,
- 48:51friends, and which denotes action on our part.
- 48:56We cannot sit on our blessed assurance, but we need to know
- 49:00that He's taking care of everything.
- 49:02He's raining down manna from heaven.
- 49:05He's giving us Our Daily Bread every day.
- 49:08And don't worry about tomorrow, for today has enough worries.
- 49:12Let today take care of itself. Do not worry.
- 49:17Let God do the heavy lifting. Let God come beside you and be
- 49:24yoked with Jesus, for His burden is light.
- 49:26Friends, His yoke is easy. Rest in the promises of God,
- 49:31knowing that He is in full control and we must surrender
- 49:35and we must completely empty ourselves of ourselves to be
- 49:39filled with Him, to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
- 49:44That is how we must live our lives.
- 49:48We cannot play both sides. You cannot have one foot in the
- 49:52boat and 1 foot in the water. You must be completely sold out
- 49:57to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.
- 49:59I hope you've been blessed by this chapter.
- 50:05I know I sure have. What an amazing book that we
- 50:10hold in our hands. This is truth, friends.
- 50:15This is all power and authority, friends.
- 50:20We would do well to obey it, but the love of Christ lead you into
- 50:25obedience. I'm praying for every single one
- 50:31of you. Take heart today, take courage
- 50:36today. I love you, so does God.
- 50:44I'm glad you're here on this journey, making it through this
- 50:50word. His word never returns void.
- 50:56Praise God. Hallelujah.
- 50:58We love you Jesus. We'll see you back here
- 51:01tomorrow. God bless you.
