- Jeremy Spencer: Ha ha. Chuck Atkinson: Welcome back to Player Into Review, everybody, with your host Chuck Atkinson and Jeremy Spencer. I hope you everybody had a great football weekend. Jared, how'd you make out? Jeremy Spencer: well I I'm in the battle of the two teams that didn't get the the most points. But I'm gonna lose Chuck Atkinson: All right. Jeremy Spencer: a game by one point. Chuck Atkinson: So I I know it's listen, I I don't don't wanna cut you off there, but I know it's early. We're only week two. After this weekend, are you still feeling it's the year of the fleas? Jeremy Spencer: hundred percent. You're the fleas. You can't you can't win them all, man. Like it's a long road to the playoffs. And despite not Chuck Atkinson: It is. It's a fourteen week season. Yep. Jeremy Spencer: having a very good week and having DJ Moore get me a big fat zero because Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy Spencer: he got hurt two seconds into the game. I still only lost a game by one point, and I'm currently still winning my other game. I just need scatterboo to get less than nine points tonight. Chuck Atkinson: Well, I wish you all the best on that one there. That's So you want him so Jeremy Spencer: If that happens I'm three and one. Worst case scenario two and two. It's fixable. Chuck Atkinson: you need him to get less than nine points. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, nine ties it. Ten wins. Chuck Atkinson: Nine ties. So you need eight eight and a half or less. Okay. And he's facing the Rams on the road. It you know what? It's a Jeremy Spencer: He's pacing the rams. Chuck Atkinson: very it's it's a very real possibility. It's a very real possibility. Aaron Donald's back tonight for the Rams for the first time in almost three years. So we'll we'll see how he does. But yeah, no, that's that's an uphill battle, but eight and a half that's doable, I think, for you. So good luck on that one. Good luck. Jeremy Spencer: Yep, so that's where that's where we're staying. I mean that's all that keeps me from being three and one right now. So a worst case scenario it's a two and two start. Yeah, it's nothing. No, it's good. Chuck Atkinson: So worst case two and two. Yeah, that's not bad at all. Yeah, and four, that you don't want to be chasing winds after week two, week three. being down and four, Jeremy Spencer: No, O and four's not. Chuck Atkinson: and six, yeah. That's that's a hole you don't want to climb up. Jeremy Spencer: So what are the what's the X factor situation week two? Chuck Atkinson: Well, it's we're on the other end of the spectrum. we were looking at a two-in-o weekend, I believe. And McCaffrey didn't have a big yardage game. Got me a couple touchdowns to save the day. thankfully they're playing the Dolphins, so we could just take it easy. with a nice easy 20-yard rushing day and two TDs and a couple of grabs. Taylor had a monster game last night for the Colts against the Chiefs. And Purdy lit it up. Against the Dolphins, which is great. Diggs had a great game. But aside from that, it was a bunch of dust on the back end. bad coaching moves, mainly on my behalf. Overthinking and yeah, just trying to be over cautious this early in the season. Jeremy Spencer: Well, there wasn't a lot on your bench doing a whole lot. It wasn't Chuck Atkinson: No, I mean I got the Rams there. Got the Rams there. I picked up them at the Jeremy Spencer: You know, you could pretty much went with the right guys. Wrong kicker, but Chuck Atkinson: draft. Yeah, on paper. I mean the Rams should be good tonight, but we'll see. We'll see. Yeah, no, I mean it's early in the season, so long way to go. Long way to go. But how'd how'd the Packers do for me this weekend? Jeremy Spencer: shit, sorry. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: The Packers make out. Jeremy Spencer: Packers? Packers? Well, we w we Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy Spencer: got the got a W. So, Chuck Atkinson: Okay. Who are you guys are playing who? Jeremy Spencer: What's that? Who are we playing? Chuck Atkinson: You guys were playing who again? The Jets I think it was the the the Jets or the Jets yeah, the Jets. That's right. You played Geno. And they put up a good fight. Jeremy Spencer: The Jets The Jets Yeah They the well they did. It took everything the Packers had and and more to Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy Spencer: come back at the end, but It doesn't matter how you get there. All builds character. Chuck Atkinson: Hey, W is a Jeremy Spencer: So Chuck Atkinson: W at the end of the day, so it doesn't matter if you win by one point or ten points against what's supposed to be one of the worst teams in the league. Yeah, no, listen, I I'm Jeremy Spencer: Well that's right. They're down seventeen to seven in the fourth quarter, man. That's impressive. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, well, Jordan Love. He slings it like Aaron Rodgers. I think he he kinda molded his quarterback style after him a little bit, which is kind of a pro and a con. It's kind of a pro and a con against him, I don't know. But no he's Jeremy Spencer: Well, you watched him. As lo as long as he doesn't mold his his personal Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy Spencer: attitude after him, he's probably gonna be alright. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, no, no. This guy, I don't think Jordan believes he walks on water by any stretch of the imagination. No. He's seems like he's a little more grounded and down to earth and Yeah. Not not as out there as Arod, so but yeah, no that he thank Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Your Chargers, what how'd the how'd they do how how'd they do this week? Chuck Atkinson: you. I appreciate you asking. I appreciate you asking. I was just waiting for that Jeremy Spencer: Well, said Chuck Atkinson: moment. no, actually I was really waiting for you to get yeah, they were doing. Jeremy Spencer: I figure I figure Chuck Atkinson: so Jeremy Spencer: as much. They they they look pretty pretty great. I mean Chuck Atkinson: So week who did we lose to in week one again? the Arizona Cardinals. The Arizona Cardinals. Okay. So they Jeremy Spencer: Week one. Yeah, the cards. You got tougher teams coming now, I think. Chuck Atkinson: well. Listen. We were supposed to, you know, the old preseason predictions by the pros and the analysts and all that good stuff. They think the Chargers are all that in the cat's bag. But Yeah, no. What did I say here week one? What did I say here last week? don't believe in them. They get the best looking best. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, you said they're not missing you they're not making the playoffs. Chuck Atkinson: Best looking jerseys in football, folks. Best looking helmet. But they can't Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: win ya a game when they need to, and you can't trust them. I I really don't know what to say. I've come I've lost complete faith in this team, this organization. the head coach, quite frankly, talks like he's the ultimate warrior. He rambles on about nonsense on and on and on about God know. Jeremy Spencer: They're supposed to be so much better. Chuck Atkinson: Well. Well what every week he's calling Justin Herbert the greatest quarterback who's ever lived. The guy hasn't won a playoff game, I don't think he's ever done. hey, listen, great arm. But I I don't know what to tell you, man. That's we lose to the Cardinals and then last week lose to the Raiders. The Raiders. Jeremy Spencer: Yep. Now you got buffalo coming next week. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, so we got Buffalo coming up next on the road, by the way, at Seattle. And then we're at home against Denver and then at Kansas City. no joke, I smell 0-6. No joke. I'm not joking. No joking. I you can pencil it in right Jeremy Spencer: and six. You're hearing it here. Chuck Atkinson: here. 0-6. Are they gonna go to Buffalo? Jeremy Spencer: Well the it the schedule gets tougher than they just had. Chuck Atkinson: Listen, as I mentioned before, I am a realist, I live in reality, and I told you all that the charters suck. Don't buy the hype. Don't buy this McDaniel junk. He is not who he says he is. Don't trust anybody who rolls up his pants like he's twenty years old and thinks he's hanging out on the beach rather than coaching a football team, driving around honking horns at people while they're having coffees trying to get attention for himself in Miami. now he's gonna be Justin Herbert's savior. Well, that's what John Harbaugh was supposed to be. And what what's he who's he? Like I said, he talks like he's the ultimate warrior. You listen to one of his press conferences, and he's nonsensical. Nonsensical. I would honestly wish Jeremy Spencer: So what's your Chuck Atkinson: we had the I wish we'd had the other brother, quite frankly. So yeah, that's my rant on the Chargers. They they suck. They suck. Jeremy Spencer: Well t the outlook is not good. Chuck Atkinson: It's not positive. run game, non-existent Jeremy Spencer: Recording. Chuck Atkinson: pass game, non-existent receivers. They were born with laxatives in their hand. They can't catch anything other than the runs. no, they they blow, man. They blow. So what else do you think about what's going on around football? Hey, did you catch what happened with Dallas and Washington game? Did you see any of that? Jeremy Spencer: I di I I actually didn't. I was out on the trails yesterday doing some birthday stuff, missed a lot of the games yesterday afternoon, so nope. Chuck Atkinson: That's right, folks. So all our viewers out there and all our beautiful listeners, it was Jeremy Spencer's birthday yesterday. A big happy birthday, Jerry. Jeremy Spencer: Thanks, buddy. Chuck Atkinson: but yeah, no what what you did miss so during the Dallas and Washington game, which was a heck of a game up until halftime. A play before halftime. so I don't know if you never remember Jaden Daniels last year being hurt. he's not listening, he's not he's not a big strong cat. You know, he's a little on the lanky side. Jeremy Spencer: He tends to get hurt a little. Chuck Atkinson: He tends to get hurt a little bit, like right, you know, he doesn't have enough meat on the bones to be to be taking all those big hits. unfortunately sometimes you Land funny, you might take a hit funny. but yeah, yesterday, last play before half, they're going in on the one yard line, and they they snap the ball, quarterback steps on his foot, he loses his balance as a result, he twists to the side, left arm goes down to plant himself to catch him from going down and then, you know, keeping the play alive. But as he does, he dislocates his elbow. on national TV. And what a scene, man. What a scene. It was sad and unfortunate for him. Cause he was Jeremy Spencer: Yikes. Chuck Atkinson: he honestly looked like he was back. He looked like he was back yesterday, like running great, passing great, just playing a great game. but then yeah, the old injury bug bit the dust again on him. It it really sucked. Jeremy Spencer: Some guys it just happens to. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, Tom Brady watching the game, calling it live. Didn't realize what happened until he saw it again. shit, he says live on TV, catching himself. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: but yeah, it was just that kind of moment where you're like, shit, yeah, this is not good. So dislocated elbow for Jaden Daniels. hopefully for a speedy cover. Jeremy Spencer: Throwing elbow? Chuck Atkinson: No, no, no. It's his off elbow, his left Jeremy Spencer: Okay. Whew. Chuck Atkinson: arm, yeah. So his right arm's still good, but you know, you you take the hits. You gotta be able to land. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. But so he could get back. He might be back this year then. Chuck Atkinson: It's it's a possibility. Possibility. So further tests later on this week. They're gonna know more. Yeah. But and who else? there's another injury. Caleb Williams goes down, hamstring injury. yeah. So fantasy lineups, real teams taking big hits this weekend. Saquon went down as well. What is it? First series of the game, Saquon Barkley. So head heads up, folks. It's early. But let's make Jeremy Spencer: My guy DJ Moore? Chuck Atkinson: And DJ Moore, yeah, absolutely. Another one. So a lot of big names going down or this early in the season. it's unfortunate. Yeah. But they want to make the game Jeremy Spencer: Yep. But Chuck Atkinson: they want to make the season 18 games eventually. You know, safety matters apparently. I don't get it. They're they're they're hypocrites. The NFL's hypocrites. Let's make it safer by making longer seasons. But anyways, I digress. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. More money. Chuck Atkinson: So yeah, no, it's Chargers suck. Pac had a good weekend again. All's right in the world. Jeremy Spencer: So last we were chatting the we were talking about the Jays. Chuck Atkinson: the Jays, yeah. Yeah, no, Jeremy Spencer: So where are we at with now with the Jays? Chuck Atkinson: Well, what's how many games left? I think they have six games left. A series starts tonight. Jeremy Spencer: They're currently sitting at what, seventy seven and seventy nine entering the series tonight. Chuck Atkinson: All right, so that's who are they playing tonight again? Jeremy Spencer: They are three games out of the final AL well card spot. Six games to go. they're playing Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, who's on the who who's on Jeremy Spencer: who are they playing tonight? Chuck Atkinson: That's great question. I know they're Jeremy Spencer: Question. Chuck Atkinson: playing the Reds. Yeah, no, hey, listen, they might even give an LOL for us not knowing what the hell we're talking about. Right on. but I do know that they're playing the Reds in the this upcoming series, the last series of the weekend at home. you know what let me just take Orioles, Orioles. So the Orioles, I believe. And the Orioles. Jeremy Spencer: yeah, no, they're playing the Orioles tonight, that's right. And the game's d the game's delayed. They were winning three to one and the game got delayed. Chuck Atkinson: Who the Orioles were? Jeremy Spencer: No, the Jays were winning three to one in the first inning, but yep. And there's a must be a rank. Yeah. I w in it in the first inning even. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: tonight. wow. They actually had three runs in an inning. Impressive. Three three runs in one inning. I'd be even more surprised. I actually you know why? I don't think Vladdy's playing tonight. That's why. I think he's not playing tonight. Jeremy Spencer: Vladdy is not playing tonight. Chuck Atkinson: There you go. That's how we scored three runs in the first inning because he didn't strike out or ground out. Jeremy Spencer: None of it was on a home run though. Chuck Atkinson: Well, that's the Jays. The Jays can't slug, man. You know, they they they're not a slug team this year. Mm-hmm. Probably probably Jeremy Spencer: We got Lucas Springer got hit. Okamoto. Yep. Chuck Atkinson: all singles. Probably all singles and a walk maybe in there. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Yeah, no, there's two walks in there. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. That's how that's how the Jays been operating. Yeah, well yeah, three runs in an inning. Shoot. Jeremy Spencer: Whatever, they get the they get the runs. They their lineup tonight. Chuck Atkinson: You know, they they have a hard time getting three runs in a game. So hey, onward and upward. Jeremy Spencer: Dude, they gotta go like six and Five and one minimum six and Chuck Atkinson: well they're three games back of Chicago, right? Okay, so they're an even three on the board. So really they're four behind because Sho Chicago owns the head to head with the Jays this year. They've spanked them. I think the Jays only beat them once out of six. And then which is why we needed Cleveland to fall back down to the wild card because the Jays had owned the head to head with them. So in reality, we need the Jays to go five and one, four and two. Worst case is four and two. even be talking about Friday or Saturday. And then and then well well Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, but still that's just pushing it. Chuck Atkinson: in actuality in order to get to Saturday they have to go three and three and they have to sweep the Orioles Jeremy Spencer: Well yeah. Chuck Atkinson: plain and simple and then hope that the White Sox or the Indians something happens there where both teams just happen to forget about how how to play baseball. I know the White Sox have been playing well the last couple weeks but the Guardians though sorry Jeremy Spencer: It's brutal to be down to this. Chuck Atkinson: I don't know if I'm saying the Indians, but I'm I mean the Guardians folks, the Cleveland Guardians. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, it's Chuck Atkinson: yeah, no, they that's why we needed the the Guardians to be in the last wildcard spot for the Jays to actually be able to jump up ahead. But yeah, no, it's it's it'll be interesting. Jeremy Spencer: Pretty it's dire. Chuck Atkinson: I mean what's that? Jeremy Spencer: I said it's dire and can they do anything even if they got there now? Chuck Atkinson: Well, that's just it. Who are they gonna start on the mound? Cease is gonna miss his next start, apparently. Yesavage Jeremy Spencer: You save it's just gotta activate it again, apparently. Chuck Atkinson: Well yeah. I think he he might have pitched what a max of two innings or three innings and in the triple A to get warmed up again and those innings didn't go well. Jeremy Spencer: Actually he pitching to he was pitchin' tonight and then the game got delayed for Frigg's sakes. Chuck Atkinson: Well, yeah, that's what I mean. But in order to come back up, he had to get warmed back up down in the minors. But I think he only had one or two starts that didn't go very well. And then, you know, of course, well, you need them, so it doesn't matter how they go, you have to bring them back up. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: so yet no Cease, you have Scherzer, yet no Bieber. Who am I missing here? They got Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: Soriano. They got Soriano, but he hasn't been pitching well the last couple weeks. And Jeremy Spencer: The dream team is Chuck Atkinson: well, dream easy there, Bryce Young. Easy. Easy. Bryce Young. sorry, not Bryce Young. Jeremy Spencer: It's malfunctioning. The the pitching well, what was Chuck Atkinson: I mean, who's the the quarterback? Vince Young. Vince Young. Jeremy Spencer: Vince young. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, the the self proclaimed dream team with the Eagles. Yeah, no thanks. Jeremy Spencer: No, but they they had what could have been a wicked pitching staff and it just it's fizzled out. Chuck Atkinson: Well, with them, what happened to start the year? Cody Ponce, their big signing from Japan, got hurt first start of the year, wiped out. So that's automatically a bad sign right there. Prior to that, Shane Bieber wasn't pitching until when? Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: June? July? Maybe I think. End of June. Then Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. And then he's hurt again. Chuck Atkinson: he then he got hurt again. He's got you know arm fatigue, whatever the hell's going on. Max. Hey, listen, I love Max Scherzer. 42 years old. Win-loss record of what two and eight? ERA of just under six. I I listen, I'm not I'm not I'm not call I'm I'm I'm not Jeremy Spencer: But you can't have him being the the the guy right now. Chuck Atkinson: calling I'm not calling him a novelty signing or a novelty pitcher that we have in there just to draw fans because listen, that's what the clubhouse needs is energy and more fire from guys like him. You know, be pissed off when you lose. Be pissed off when you're Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, man. Chuck Atkinson: Be pissed off when you're in a in a slump, you know, if things aren't going well. Don't d don't don't just sit there Jeremy Spencer: Especially when you're supposed to be a Chuck Atkinson: with a smile on your face, high fiving everybody for the good job they're doing. Be angry about the shitty job you're doing. You know what I mean? Like, I'm not talking to the whole team. It's apparent who's on who I'm talking to. The guy's been sitting there all year long, raking in cash and dough, but he's just sitting there smiling and clapping and just hugging everybody. Giving everybody else the home run jacket. Jeremy Spencer: Something's not s we're gonna we're gonna find out after something's wasn't right with Bladdy all year, so I don't know. We'll see. I'm the s I I don't know. Something's not right with Vladdy. Chuck Atkinson: Well listen, if there's something that's not right, then sit sit your if something if something's not right and he's actually hurt, then he should have sat his ass down on the sideline and guess what? He's still gonna get paid his money, regardless. But what he's doing in the interim is dragging the rest of the team down. That's all he's doing. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. But he he wants to help. We'll see. We'll see what happens as this goes forward. 'Cause I l I like the Chuck Atkinson: Well, they all do. I get it. I do. Yeah, for sure. Jeremy Spencer: team I like this team but there's gonna be some shake ups. Something's gonna some Chuck Atkinson: Well, there has to be. I mean, there's so many contracts that are expiring on this roster that need to go. they need a reset. last year was Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: just a lightning in a bottle situation. Everything went right until the last day of Jeremy Spencer: Well they were they're a good team. Chuck Atkinson: yeah, absolutely. But everything fell into place so along the way Jeremy Spencer: Very good team. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: to get them there, like i it was just it was something magical about that year last year. they could not replicate that. It's unfortunate but Jeremy Spencer: No. Chuck Atkinson: not every you know, y unless you're built to slug and get yourself out of these slumps where you're not hitting pitching all the time and you can hit home runs as a team. Don't worry about having guys on base. If you can get two or three runs just off home runs, then it keeps you competitive in the game. But these guys can't even do that. So but they're they're fighting the good fight until the end of the season. don't up on Thursday to see a g a game on Saturday against the Reds. So hoping it's meaningful. but Jeremy Spencer: That's gonna be awesome. Chuck Atkinson: but if but if not, it's still gonna be a fun time. Place is still gonna be packed to fans, fan appreciation day. And no, it's always a rocking time going to the Roger Center. It's always sold out. So Jeremy Spencer: I suspect if they can they I mean there's a three they're winning three to one right now at the delayed game. If they Chuck Atkinson: Mm. Jeremy Spencer: can get a win now and get a couple of wins going into the next the the series you're gonna watch, it's should be f should be pretty fun. You should be watching a couple of games that Chuck Atkinson: If you you if you have the scores if you have the Jeremy Spencer: mean something. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, well if you have the scores up there, do you have anything for an update on the the Guardians and or the White Sox by chance? If they may or may not be playing tonight? 'Cause the mood will change. A three Jeremy Spencer: We Chuck Atkinson: to one lead is is nice and positive and all, but if I hear, you know, a Cleveland win or a Chicago win, it makes the three to one win by the Blue Jays almost moot or lead. I mean, they're winning the game, it's one one one inning. Good for them. Jeremy Spencer: Well, there's not many games today. The the the Tigers beat the Nationals four nothing or no, they're beating the Nationals four nothing. And the Twins are playing the Giants later. That's that's all that's happening today. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: Okay. No case. really? Okay. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: All right, well the J's, Jeremy Spencer: So Chuck Atkinson: the night's yours, boys, so take advantage of it and good luck. We need it. We need another Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, they're on their own and then Chuck Atkinson: W. Jeremy Spencer: And then I don't even think those guys are playing the Guardians are playing the Red Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, the Jays are off I think on Wednesday. Jeremy Spencer: the G Guardians are playing the Red Sox tomor starting tomorrow. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, I think the Jays are playing tomorrow as well. And then I think we're off on is it are we off on Thursday? I think it must be off on Thursday, yeah. So it's a three game series now. We're playing Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, off on Thursday, and then back in Toronto for the last three. Yep, that's right. Yeah, no, it's interesting Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, that's what's happening. Chuck Atkinson: race down to the finish. the Rays have the division pretty much locked down. who's got the central? Who's got the central? Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, so the standings look like Chuck Atkinson: Not Detroit, not Minnesota. yeah, that's right, Cleveland. Cleveland. Th this is a forgettable division. And then the West is Houston. For the minute. For the minute. This might change as soon as we this episode comes out. Jeremy Spencer: No, the Rangers are right now. Chuck Atkinson: are they? Yeah, 'cause they've been flip flopping every day for the last week, it feels like, those two teams. hasn't exactly been a Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. But the Astros are three and seven their last ten, so they they may not be and the Rangers are six and four, so but yeah, currently got the Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, Jeremy Spencer: Rangers and the Astros in the American League West and the Guardians and White Sox. In the central Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy Spencer: and the J's nowhere near any of all that. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Bottom feeding. Bottom feeding. It's it's a shame, you know. well I'm I'm glad at least that the Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Second last in the American League East. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, well I'm listening I'm glad at least that they kept Georgie at the the trade deadline, some of those guys there that they could have easily sent off for some younger players, future considerations, some cas Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, they've Chuck Atkinson: some cash for some international draft picks or signings. you want to be competitive all the way through. Jeremy Spencer: They tried to stay tried to stay in it. Chuck Atkinson: Well, when you're a big market like Toronto, Jeremy Spencer: So Chuck Atkinson: I mean, and you get the money and you get like the the fan base that we do. Yeah, you Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: cannot tank. You can't tank. I mean, that's not the maple leaves here. We're not the maple leaves. So so th that being said, yeah, that being said, why don't we get onto a little happier things? Jeremy Spencer: So so sticking s well s sticking with football though. Well well sti sticking with football just for a minute. Just just Chuck Atkinson: Sure. Jeremy Spencer: strange sports story of the week. Did you hear did you hear Chuck Atkinson: What do you got for me? Jeremy Spencer: what was going on in in apparently during the Eagles Titans game? Chuck Atkinson: No, fill me in. Who what? So Eagles Titans. Eagles Titans, first of all. So the first thing that brings Jeremy Spencer: Well Eagles Titans. Let me let me Chuck Atkinson: to my mind, the first thing that brings my mind on is that uninteresting game. And the Eagles are gonna spank them. But I I got a feeling that's not where you're going. Jeremy Spencer: Well, the Eagles won twenty four to twenty. It was you know, the Eagles won. It wasn't a spanking, but it was a despite despite Chuck Atkinson: No, that's hell, that's that's a closer game than anybody expected, yeah. Jeremy Spencer: many saying the field was lava. field was lava, man. Apparently apparently some of the players, their shoes were like hot, their cleats were melting. Their cleats they're Chuck Atkinson: What? Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Yeah, supposedly they played a game in in it this was in in Nashville at the Nissan Stadium. It was reported Chuck Atkinson: Right. Okay. Jeremy Spencer: at a hundred and fifty seven degrees Fahrenheit, not which would be sixty nine degrees Celsius here in for us Canadians. Chuck Atkinson: So we're Jeremy Spencer: Sixty nine degrees Celsius on the on the field. Yeah. They're actual I Chuck Atkinson: So what they do, roll out the parking lot into the game? Jeremy Spencer: don't know. Actual players said their cleats softened or melted and some had to have their foot where their their shoes sprayed down with water to keep them fucking cooled down during the game. Chuck Atkinson: Imagine just giving your feet an ice bath every time you get off the field. Just so a your feet Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: don't swell up and your cleats don't melt underneath them. That's that's crazy. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, like Cam Jurgen said he h he went through multiple pairs of cleats. Like Yeah. What like Chuck Atkinson: my God. Well, Cam Cam can well he he's an offensive lineman, right, Cam? Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. yeah, the Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, that's what I thought. Jeremy Spencer: Philadelphia Lyman. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Yeah, well I would I would suspect and nothing nothing against Cam. You know, he's a great offensive lineman. I I've watched the the Eagles over the last few years. Their run game is phenomenal. the yeah, he big boys up front. You carry no extra weight under those cleats. They there might be a little might might be a little might be a little easier to melt and let's say, I don't know, Jeremy Spencer: You put Chuck Atkinson: Jake Elliott, the kicker for the Eagles. If he's out there kicking. Jeremy Spencer: No shoes should be melting on the field. Anyway. Like so that begs the question, you know, i Chuck Atkinson: No shoes should be melting on the field, but I'm guessing though because of his weight. Jeremy Spencer: i if the field is hot enough to melt professional athletes' shoes, Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy Spencer: should the game have even been played? Chuck Atkinson: Well, that's debatable where they weren't any sunscreen. Jeremy Spencer: I don't know. It isn't Nashville. Chuck Atkinson: Ha ha ha. Jeremy Spencer: I mean it's implied it's going to be warm. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, but I mean that kind of heat though, that's that's that's almost insane. Like you can get you can get severely injured and you know, meta you know, internal internally as well, I would assume. dehydration, you know, fatigue, Jeremy Spencer: Well y well that's just it. It w what a bizarre Chuck Atkinson: you know, be passing out. anybody else complaining about that kind of stuff during the game or is it just the the the lineman? Jeremy Spencer: No, the e the referees. There's referees saying they were had to change like multiple shirts and stuff. Like it's just but yeah, like oddly oddly hot. Like so that, you know I don't know. It's like the game, like Chuck Atkinson: Wow, so even guy e even Jeremy Spencer: the floor is lava, man. Chuck Atkinson: So so even the guys on the sidelines are just like, I mean, like I know in Miami, so because the the way the sun comes into what I don't know what they call a stadium now, a hard rock stadium. I know it used to be called Jack Roby back in back in the in the day, I think it was. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. I don't know. Chuck Atkinson: what they do is the Miami side, they'll always put a canopy, like a little tent, over the over the player's bench for shade. But on the visiting team side, They won't put any shade at all because they want the heat Jeremy Spencer: I don't know. Chuck Atkinson: and the sun. They want the heat and the sun just bearing down on them. So any bend Jeremy Spencer: Apparently even their coach, Nick Nick Siriani, who had IV. i and he didn't even play a snap. Yeah. Like maybe Chuck Atkinson: What the co the coach had an IV. The coach had an IV. Jeremy Spencer: maybe this is some sort of thing they do to the visiting team now. They crank up the friggin' the the floor underneath the the they crank up the floor temperature underneath the the visiting Chuck Atkinson: Nobody in the Jeremy Spencer: team's bench. They're melting their shoes. Chuck Atkinson: Nobody notice the heaters there behind the bench? Nobody noticed the big twenty by twenty heaters behind the bench there melting them? No? Okay. Jeremy Spencer: I don't know. This could be d this could be bigger than the Flake Gate. This could be the may maybe Chuck Atkinson: Ha ha ha Jeremy Spencer: the maybe Nashville is trying to sweat out the opposing team on the on their bench. Melt their shoes. Chuck Atkinson: Well like back in the back in the seven sixties and seventies those early days. Fifties, sixties and seventies only they literally play on it wasn't turf. I mean I think turf only started coming around in the NFL in the what the seventies? Maybe around there. Jeremy Spencer: I don't know, but this field's turf. Chuck Atkinson: but it but in the grass I remember the f you know, the the frozen tundra games and things like that. The ice bowl. yeah, though I mean temperatures went the other way so so so severely cold. But That's the first time I've ever heard of a game being so hot where it actually melted players' shoes. That's hilarious. Now that is what do you call a hot take. Jeremy Spencer: So yeah. That is a hot take, ladies and gentlemen. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy Spencer: That is a bizarre sports story of the week. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, that that definitely is. Yeah, you think next time, you know, you see the temperature there Jeremy Spencer: So Chuck Atkinson: on the field. Don't they always have like the the the thermometer? Not the thermometer, but they go man. Not a thermometer. yeah, I put it I put it in my ear and I go play football. Yeah, no. No, but they have a you Jeremy Spencer: Heh. A thermometer? The thing that tells the temperature? That's what those do. Do they put that out there? I'm sure they have something that tells you the temperature of the field. Chuck Atkinson: know, on the field, a temperature gauge and they always show like not always, but depending on the heat of the day. You know, they'll show like the the needle rising up and where you know where it is for the temperature and degrees in Celsius and Fahrenheit. yeah, no, Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: that's wow, a hundred fifty eight, hundred and sixty. That's not That's definitely an SPF 40 Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: day. So yeah, anyways, Jeremy Spencer: I don't know what else we got. Chuck Atkinson: but yeah, hockey season starting. What's going on? Hockey season. All right, so I will Jeremy Spencer: Hockey season. Yeah, buddy. D Chuck Atkinson: I know my role on this one here. So folks, I am not as educated as my good friend Jeremy here in in the in the world of hockey, the NHL. he knows more of the ins and outs, the do's and don'ts. Who's got the the inside information? So Jeremy Spencer: Well if it's Habs related. Chuck Atkinson: well, generally speaking, you know, hockey related, you know, you have more of a grasp than I do. Jeremy Spencer: But really is it hockey if it's not HABs related? Chuck Atkinson: It's well, let's not go there. That's not a Jeremy Spencer: one thing I do know I can tell ya I I can tell ya that the Habs beat the leaves Chuck Atkinson: This is the year of the Habs. Jeremy Spencer: well it's it c well that very well might be. Could coincide with the year of the fleas. And so anyway, I don't know if you know, but the Habs beat the Leaves twice in one night. Yeah. Yeah, twice one night. Chuck Atkinson: Okay. so Jeremy Spencer: Split squad. We sent the crap squad d to to to Toronto. Alright, crap squads in Toronto playing against guess who? You know, Gavin McKenna, Chuck Atkinson: Well. The A squad. Jeremy Spencer: Austin Matthews, all the good guys. Okay? Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy Spencer: So B squad beats Toronto in Toronto. Our Chuck Atkinson: Okay. Jeremy Spencer: A squad gets down behind in in a three two game ties the game up and then guess who? Mr Saturday night starts already. First game of preseason scores in overtime. Caulfield, buddy. this is gonna be a great season. Anytime you can beat the Leafs Chuck Atkinson: if only so so Jeremy Spencer: twice in one night is a good day, buddy. Chuck Atkinson: man, man. It's already starting, folks. It's already starting. Unleashing the beast. Jeremy Spencer: Yep. I'm excited. Yeah. And right now, as we speak, I'm more excited to watch Habs in Ottawa play a preseason game than I am to watch Monday night football. I gotta watch both, but Chuck Atkinson: Well, I mean, you have to you have you have to have some sort of vested interest in the Monday foot you know, in the football game itself. Not to say that, you know, it's not to say that tonight's the Jeremy Spencer: This is true, I'll be watching. It's a little later. Chuck Atkinson: night, but you know, there's always gonna be a football game where you're like, Ooh, I gotta watch that one because I have XYZ playing in it. There's you know what I mean? So and it's preseason hockey. Come on. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Yeah, but it's fun. It's exciting. When your habs are looking as good as they are. This is gonna be a Chuck Atkinson: No, I guess, yeah. Jeremy Spencer: great it's gonna be a lot of fun this year for the habs. Chuck Atkinson: No, listen, you guys have done a great job. I give kudos to your front office. for the last five years, actually seven years I'd say even. the goal has been on you know, these next year or two. It it's the the development stage really is over for the Montreal Canadians. It it's not Jeremy Spencer: yeah. I think I think we're Chuck Atkinson: it's not the future years, you know, we're looking towards, or you Montreal fans are looking towards. It's not we're building towards next year now. th this is the year where it's actually yeah. Jeremy Spencer: no. We're we're in it now, buddy. But there's still there's still some great players coming, which is crazy. That's the crazy thing about Chuck Atkinson: No, Jeremy Spencer: it. Chuck Atkinson: yeah. Exactly. And that comes down to, you know, drafting well, training, you know, coaching. It does it Jeremy Spencer: Chris Kreider's gonna fill off spot for a year. We got him on a year contract. And basically it's it's Chuck Atkinson: That's right. Jeremy Spencer: which I'm still just wrapping Chuck Atkinson: Get on get on the cheap. Jeremy Spencer: my I'm still trying to wrap my brain around it. As a Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy Spencer: Habs fan and a big Carrie Price fan. It was a it's Chuck Atkinson: Or yeah. Jeremy Spencer: a strange thing seeing Chris Kreider in a Habs uniform. But Chuck Atkinson: Did did did Kerry give him the intro at his press conference? I I wonder. Jeremy Spencer: I don't think so. But Carrie'd still be playing right now if it wasn't for that play, probably, whether it was on purpose or not. It's too only he would know. But he's a have now, man. Whatever. Chuck Atkinson: I mean what the some bycons. Mm-hmm. Jeremy Spencer: I'm I'm willing to move on. I'm gonna let him run into other Chuck Atkinson: That's right. That's right. You take cleep. Jeremy Spencer: teams goalies this time. He's just on the right side. So Chuck Atkinson: No, you guys are Yeah, you guys are gonna be looking great this year. you got awesome young core players. be quite frank, and you know, it's any any team, any franchise, you know, they would want what you guys have going on right now. whether it's on the offense, on defense, Hudson, you know, those cats there. I'm not gonna go into goaltending. Listen, you like the guy, that's fine and dandy. Dobish. Hey, listen, I like I like Fowler Jeremy Spencer: Fowler and Dobish are man. Chuck Atkinson: Fowler a lot. I'm not a fan of Dobish whatsoever. you love him up all you want, love him up all you want. I watched the guy last year in the playoffs. And watching him what Jeremy Spencer: What'd he do? He just won. Chuck Atkinson: just just what just watching him last year in the playoffs, it's his behavior, it's his attitude, it's how he went about himself. You know what? There's one Patrick. There's one Patrick Wall. There is. And we tolerated him because he was successful. He had a Hall of Fame career. And he was colorful as well. Okay. This guy Dobish. I watched him play a lot. No, no, no, no, no. But no, no, hey, listen. But when you're this but listen, Jeremy Spencer: Yep. Not everybody has the same personality. I know a Dominic Hassock that also was a little flamboyant from time to time. Chuck Atkinson: you you you see you know as well as I do. These young goaltenders, they flame out in a in a season or two. Most part nowadays. Jeremy Spencer: yeah, no. Chuck Atkinson: They flame out some fast. They get their their heads are so big and then they flame out. This kid should Jeremy Spencer: We'll see. Chuck Atkinson: watch it. This kid should watch it because he had a good sidekick there with Cam Fowler. Okay, you got a good combo, good tandem. But Jeremy Spencer: Jacob Fowler. Chuck Atkinson: Dobish Jacob, sorry, Jacob Fowler. Yeah, my bad. Jeremy Spencer: But Fa Fowler, man, I'm telling ya, he he's that kid's a real deal right there. He's he's almost like price two point But Dopish is Chuck Atkinson: Well, and that's why I mean Dobas should just, you know, he just Jeremy Spencer: good. Chuck Atkinson: he's good, but he he's really good. Don't get me wrong, he's really good. But he that just the way he played last year, he he just rubbed me personally the wrong way as I as as how you go about business and how you go about playing it. Well, and then act like it. Well, well, did you you like Sean Jeremy Spencer: he's a nice kid. He's just a goofy kid. He's a goofy kid. Goalies are weird. It's just it's just a thing. Chuck Atkinson: Avery? You like Sean Avery? Remember him? Yeah, well I Jeremy Spencer: Sean Avery. Nobody likes Sean Avery. Chuck Atkinson: Well that's why okay. You like Brad Marshawn? You like how he plays? Like No, shut up. shut it. Shut it. You cannot say that Jeremy Spencer: Well he kinda groaned on me a little. I liked him in Team Canada. Chuck Atkinson: as a Habs fan. Now he's grown on me. What you rat? Huh? You rat? Huh? Jeremy Spencer: Nah. That's that's a team right there. Chuck Atkinson: No, no. You can't say that. Jeremy Spencer: Florida Panthers. Everybody thinks Florida's Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy Spencer: gonna be back now. You know, they're made up Chuck Atkinson: No they're not. Jeremy Spencer: of a bunch of old guys, the cad kchuk Chuck Atkinson: Mm-hmm. Jeremy Spencer: what brothers. What a mess that is. Anyway, I I'm not I'm not convinced. they still may be Yeah, Markstrums are goalie Chuck Atkinson: Flor the Panthers are are are I find they're they're they're they're looking more Jeremy Spencer: now. Chuck Atkinson: they're looking more like a frat house. It's like it's like watching an episode of Animal House with the Florida Panthers. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Hellibuck wants to be there. It's just like Animal House. Chuck Atkinson: Mm. Yeah, they're they're trying to let the the roosters run the the whole thing there. It's just gonna be nuts. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. No, it's gonna be nuts th and they're gonna be a bunch of friggin' goons. And Chuck Atkinson: And l and let's get let me guess. They're gonna they're gonna wanna sign, they're gonna wanna trade for Dylan Larkin too. let's get all Jeremy Spencer: Ha ha Chuck Atkinson: team USA back together. let's talk about Jeremy Spencer: yeah. Well that's why it seems to be the team USA guys that are demanding trades and stuff that are under contract. Chuck Atkinson: Yep. Mm-hmm. And it's not these short contracts Jeremy Spencer: It's Chuck Atkinson: either. They just sign these long term deals. Helbuck he's just in Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: going year three of year eight or whatever it is of Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: of his long term deal. Dylan Larkin, I think he's only in year two of his deal. Like, Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: I'm sorry, you just played with the at the Olympics with your friends. Now you want to go back and play with your friends again. you miss your buddy. What is this? Jeremy Spencer: Did he did you did you hear any of the hear did you hear the clip of him interviewed there yesterday, talking about ask they asked him about what his teammates thought and how that went when he talked talked to his teammates? Chuck Atkinson: Who's that? Jeremy Spencer: It was an awkward Dylan Larkin. He's like, Well, overall Chuck Atkinson: No, no, I w Jeremy Spencer: it went pretty well. you could tell it you can't you go in the dress room as Chuck Atkinson: Well of flu Jeremy Spencer: a captain and say you want out and you guys suck. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, a little little his got Jeremy Spencer: I can't play here. Chuck Atkinson: a little foot in the mouth disease is what Jeremy Spencer: Huh. Chuck Atkinson: he has right now. A little foot in the mouth disease. The guy should've just shut his mouth. Jeremy Spencer: I don't want him on the habs. Chuck Atkinson: I I listen, if I'm any team, I don't want this guy. I don't even want him on my team. Robertson. Jeremy Spencer: They keep talking there's all these rumors. There's all these rumors of Larkin coming to the habs, second line center, and it's like no, you can have the guy that wants the friggin' Tri like the Habs don't need We got a good thing going. Like that's part of why the Habs good right now. We don't need a shit disturber Chuck Atkinson: Right. People like each other. Jeremy Spencer: in the dressing room and he's a captain disturbing shit. We don't need that. Chuck Atkinson: Exactly. Exactly. you know what? Put him down in Grand Rapids for the time being. Let him play down there for a month. Jeremy Spencer: Well, how does he play? Like Hellebuck's not even gonna Chuck Atkinson: You know what? He Jeremy Spencer: go to camp, I don't or play, I don't think. But like Larkin's like, I'll play and Chuck Atkinson: I'd like to know how. Okay, hell you know what, Halibuck? I I I kind of get his trade request. Okay. What I my problem with Hellebuck is his timing of it. If you wanted to do this, you shouldn't have signed that long-term deal to get you paid. Because you knew you were getting Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, a hundred percent. Chuck Atkinson: paid and you nobody else had the cap room to get you that money before, which is why you re-signed with Winnipeg. Okay. It's not because he loved playing Winnipeg, it's Winnipeg. Let's be real. It's Manitoba. Nobody moves to Winnipeg on purpose. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, it'd be a fun place to win though if you're winning. Like it is it's cool. But it is still Winnipeg. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, but you know what? They've never won a Stanley Cup. Right. Players are more apt to sign right now with the San Jose Sharks than they are with the Winnipeg Jets. Okay. We're we you know, we talk up we talk we talk up Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, well they got something really good going on down there. Chuck Atkinson: the Jets. We talk of the Jets like it's, you know, some some big deal. But it's not really. It's Winnipeg. It's the Jets. They've never won anything. They got no clout. they've moved well once or twice. Can't even remember now. But they left to go to Phoenix. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, I still don't think Chuck Atkinson: You left to go to Phoenix. Jeremy Spencer: I don't I I don't I still don't think a guy like that the an organ like yeah a guy like that should not be backing out of an eight year deal that he signed. He signed the deal. He should honor the deal, man. Like they need that. Like or they need to get something Chuck Atkinson: He used he no, but no, and that's exactly it. He you know he sh Exactly, exactly. Jeremy Spencer: out of him. Like he like it's not right. Don't sign it. Chuck Atkinson: No, he should just sit there and you know what? If if you didn't want to be a player for the Winnipeg Jets, you shouldn't have signed the the extension. You shouldn't have. Jeremy Spencer: Well now he's just gonna have to wait until they can get the right deal for him. That's just all that's if I if I was in the Winnipeg Jets shoes, I'm not Chuck Atkinson: I'm not selling short. Jeremy Spencer: No man. You can't but it's gonna be hard. He's such got such he's he's it's got it's such a big contract. And and long term left on it. It's not it's a hard deal hard contract to deal. Chuck Atkinson: But at the same time, it's not gonna be, if you think about it, because the cap's been going up every year. And not just in in Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: small incremental terms, right? We're talking like, you know, five million, ten million. Jeremy Spencer: But he may have to wait a year. Chuck Atkinson: Well, and that's the deal. You sign the contract. They don't have to trade you. They can just send you home. If it gets to the point where you know what, if you want to be that big of a dick about it, I'm gonna send you home. Just approve a point. I am. Jeremy Spencer: Well sometimes you don't want that in your dressing room, hanging around try with a group of guys that are trying to win. Chuck Atkinson: But no, he's not going to be in my dressing room. It it's it it it's it's this this generation of players who take these big contracts and then two years later after they sign them, I don't want to play here anymore. I'm not happy anymore. I'm not winning or yada yada yada. Guess what, buddy? You knew where you were when you Jeremy Spencer: No, that's crap. Chuck Atkinson: signed the contract. Just Jeremy Spencer: That's it. Chuck Atkinson: disown it. Just own it. And same thing with Larkin, just own the darn thing. Just own the contract. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, or go behind the scenes and just say, Look, here's not working out. Do this. Don't put a Chuck Atkinson: Right, be a professional. Jeremy Spencer: team in a situation that like the team the team's in a situation when they know they have to trade ya. Nobody's gonna offer them what they need to get. Like Chuck Atkinson: Exactly. Jeremy Spencer: go do it, you know. Chuck Atkinson: Which makes him even less valuable as a player to me. Jeremy Spencer: Right. He should have just Chuck Atkinson: Because if you're a guy who sits there, it's two years Jeremy Spencer: Right. For any other for any other team. Chuck Atkinson: two years into an eight-year deal or three years into an eight-year deal, where you're getting pretty good bank, bud. Pretty good. And you're you're the captain of an original six team, you're the leader. Listen, if you're such a great leader, Larkin, how come you didn't led the team to a playoff run in the last eight years? Seriously, you relied on veterans from an a bygone era to get you your first playoff run. And ever since then, he shit the bed. This is our captain. This is our big leader. Any other Jeremy Spencer: And he's a hometown guy. Chuck Atkinson: any other guy, any other guy, we would have shipped off or traded us for s for spare parts. I would literally have traded this kid for a bag of pucks. That's what his value is right now to the red wings. Jeremy Spencer: Problem right now is Chuck Atkinson: A bag of pucks. Not even frozen pucks. Yeah, we do with Sean Hork. Well, listen. Sean Hork off you can Jeremy Spencer: You guys don't have a general manager right now. So that's a sort of a problem in the whole situation. Well, Sean Horkoff, I guess. Yeah, he's now there, I guess. Chuck Atkinson: GM right now is not the problem. It it hasn't been the problem. It's been the guys who we've drafted over the last eight years who are thinking they're they're they're the shit, quite frankly. They're not. You've had eight years to do something over and over. Jeremy Spencer: I lost your mic. Chuck Atkinson: And we're back. Jeremy Spencer: Then we're back. We'll just cut that out. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: And we're back. A little bit of technical difficulties. but yeah, no, it's listen, it's yeah, we are the Red Wings. It's it's like I'm running deja vu year round. I am seriously with the Blue Jays, Jeremy Spencer: It sucks. Chuck Atkinson: the the Blue Jays, the Chargers, the Red Wings. It's just a a a year roundabout year every year of ineptitude and pissiness and bitchiness and moaniness. But hey. Jeremy Spencer: So Chuck Atkinson: That's sports. That's sports for you, right? If you don't love it enough, you can't be that invested to get your heart broken every year. So Jeremy Spencer: Be before we go Yeah, that's true. That's true. Be before we go Chuck Atkinson: Right, I mean listen, I wouldn't be talking like this if I didn't care. I can't Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. though the the Red Wings will be good again. It would be nice to have the Red Wings and the original six teams be good all Chuck Atkinson: Right. Jeremy Spencer: around the same time, but tired. But Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, I mean at least have their turns. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Well you guys had your turns after our turn, so it's time for our turn again. And the leafs, well they're leafs. Chuck Atkinson: True. Jeremy Spencer: They're just the leafs. They they tried to have Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, yeah. How do we even not Jeremy Spencer: a turn. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. I mean they yeah. How do we not even touch on them? We have plenty of time to though. Jeremy Spencer: I don't know. But they they tr yeah, there's a long season coming up. And I don't know that they're gonna be quite as good as they think they might gonna be. Chuck Atkinson: wait, no, you get your jab in. That's right. We beat that's right, you get your jab in. You get them twice in one night. That's right. It's Jeremy Spencer: Twice, one night. Chuck Atkinson: it's early in the season, you just get warmed up, folks. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. so before we go to I just got a little a little rapid fire for ya. A little y you don't even know the questions, but they're easy though. So Chuck Atkinson: Sure, fireway. That's all right. That's the way I like it like that. Jeremy Spencer: all right, so Packers beat Atlanta Thursday, yes or no? Chuck Atkinson: Packers beating Thur Atlanta Thursday. yeah. Easily. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah? Chargers beat Buffalo. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. You know what? No. No. Are they in Atlanta or in or in Green Jeremy Spencer: No, he's ta Chuck Atkinson: Bay? Jeremy Spencer: I'm not sure. Chuck Atkinson: If it's in Atlanta, I'm gonna go Jeremy Spencer: Not sure about that. Chuck Atkinson: with Atlanta. If it's in Green Bay, I'm gonna say Green Bay. Jeremy Spencer: Okay. Chuck Atkinson: Pen Yeah, well Penix is coming back. They actually have Jeremy Spencer: yeah. Chuck Atkinson: a starting quarterback who's actually capable of throwing the ball greater than five yards. So and I wanna see if Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Well, love's just getting warmed up. Chuck Atkinson: B. John Robinson and all those guys so it's possible. So all right, rapid fire. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. Anything is possible, but rapid fire here. So Chargers beat Buffalo, yea or nay. Chuck Atkinson: No. No chance. No chance. I've Jeremy Spencer: No no chance. Blue Jays still live when the when the final weekend begins. Yay or nay, you're gonna be there. Chuck Atkinson: nay. Jeremy Spencer: You don't think they're gonna be alive when you get to see them Friday and Saturday? Chuck Atkinson: I I I don't. What's gonna happen is they are gonna win tonight and then they're gonna lose two in a row and that's gonna eliminate them. Jeremy Spencer: I surely I hope not for your sake. I hope it's gonna be a fun weekend for you. Habs make the playoffs. Well yeah, it'll be fun, but Habs make the playoffs. Chuck Atkinson: it's gonna be a fun weekend regardless. Happens have to make the playoffs? Here's a hot take for you. Happens make the Stanley Cup Finals. Jeremy Spencer: Boom. I like that. It's not even me saying it, but it Chuck Atkinson: No, no, I'm a ra what'd I tell ya, I'm a realist. I I I know what I see. Jeremy Spencer: They're gonna be good, man. It's exciting. Super fun team. Red Wings make the playoffs. Chuck Atkinson: Absolutely. Jeremy Spencer: Well they're I'm asking ya. Red wings make the playoffs. Every year for Chuck Atkinson: these rhetorical questions are are are you actually asking me this as a truthful question? No. No. No chance. No. Jeremy Spencer: the last five years they're supposed to be in the playoffs. This year it's not looking as good because the Atlantic Division is gonna be a tough one. so no. Chuck Atkinson: Listen, it always the last last handful of years, it's always come down to the last week. I'll here's a spoiler for you. It's not even gonna come down to the last week. We're gonna be done before the last month of the season. We're gonna be like second last or last in our division. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, okay, well hopefully there's some good good picks out there for ya. I Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy Spencer: don't know if there's any Gavin McKenna's. I don't even think I would have wanted Gavin McKenna. I'm glad the Leafs got him. He's g I'll tell ya, he he's a baby. He's a he's a spoiled Chuck Atkinson: we'll we'll finish dead last. Jeremy Spencer: kid and he's not gonna be as good as everybody thinks. He's kinda like Shane Wright Chuck Atkinson: We're this is just Jeremy Spencer: maybe. Chuck Atkinson: you look at the Red Wings history over the last eight years, ten years since we've missed the playoffs, and where we finished in the standings wise. Okay, we could have easily had the number one pick three times. But the stupid damn lottery has kicked us out every time, and we're always picking sixth, seventh, eighth, or ninth. Well, guess what? Those are guys who are not necessarily guaranteed like the top two guys typically are. to actually make the NHL right away and then produce eventually. More projects, maybes, who knows. But no, we're not making the playoffs. Are you kidding me? Jeremy Spencer: So going back to Rapid Fire, Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. Jeremy Spencer: bigger the bigger concern is the Packers penalties or the Chargers own two starts. Chuck Atkinson: bigger concern is the Packers penalties. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah, what's the bigger concern? The pack is the amount of penalties the Packers are taking or the Chargers owing two starts. Chuck Atkinson: Well yeah, the Packers penalties. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. You think you think you think the Chargers just gonna suck no matter what in Chuck Atkinson: Well yeah, because they're actually pre Jeremy Spencer: the pen Chuck Atkinson: Well, yeah, I mean the Packers need to clean it up. They're gonna win. They're gonna find ways to win the game like they did against the Jets. W No, no, it's no the Chargers suck, man. Like we there's no concern there. We already know we suck. Jeremy Spencer: So it's not concerning. Yeah. Okay. W well, yeah, it's true. If you here so yeah. Packers are clean Chuck Atkinson: Like that's not a concern. That's that's not a concern. Like if we're Chargers fans, we know, we know. I mean, no, we suck. No, I mean who's got faith? Who's got faith in this? Jeremy Spencer: up the penalties. We'll g we're gonna get going. We're gonna they're they're also Chuck Atkinson: absolutely. Jeremy Spencer: in a top division, but the Packers are gonna be in there. So yeah. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, definitely. Jeremy Spencer: What else you got? Anything? Are we I think that's about it. Chuck Atkinson: No, I think I think we touched it all there today. yeah, we covered some a great football weekend, week two. yeah, who Rams playing against the Giants tonight. Who who do you got for the game tonight? Jeremy Spencer: Giants, buddy. Giants all the way. I like the Giants. I I I'm a secret Giants fan Chuck Atkinson: All right. I'll leave I'll I'll lean the rams just to be different. Jeremy Spencer: this year. Yeah. Chuck Atkinson: I think you know what, surprisingly, I think they may just win the third last place. Jeremy Spencer: No, we'll see. They looked Chuck Atkinson: Yeah. So Jeremy Spencer: pretty good last week, so but they did play the Cowboys. Chuck Atkinson: No, they yeah, they did. Well, listen, it's it's a week one. We don't overreact. Let's get to I get an honest feel about how the teams are gonna look and how I really truly feel about them aside from the Chargers by week four, at you know, after the first quarter of the season's done. week one of October. You kind of know who teams are by that point. is there any kind of consistency to them? good or bad. So we'll see. And Yeah, we didn't touch on the Browns and Deshaun Watson this weekend. So good for you, Deshaun. He completed a few passes and weren't to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Boy. And Jeremy Spencer: Ha ha ha. Chuck Atkinson: you know, that's awesome. I I I I'm I'm proud of you, you know. Now that's the fighting spirit. Jeremy Spencer: Yeah. He's out of the shit list this week. Chuck Atkinson: Well, he still has to go home and actually answer fans, right? So I think that's still gonna be the same response as expected. But Jeremy Spencer: I think yeah, we're we're gonna bring a new segment probably starting next week called the penalty box and Chuck Atkinson: That's Jeremy Spencer: see if Deshaun has found his way out. Chuck Atkinson: Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Yeah. So we're each gonna nominate a player or an event, a moment, of a game, something that happened. hopefully for the player's sake, it wasn't too much of a bonehead move or statement or action that caused them to go into the box. But please join us and find out who our first victims are. And we hope you tune in again. So thank you very much for everybody for joining us for episode three of Play Under Review your host Chuck Atkinson and Jeremy Spencer. Jared, do you want to sign us off? Jeremy Spencer: Have a great night and I'll come up with something better for next time. Cheers. Chuck Atkinson: All right. Cheers, everybody.
