Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Noel, a ballad for Christmas. The bells chime happily across
- 0:06Speaker 1: the night, the night that crowns the almost dying year,
- 0:11Speaker 1: and soon the morning, with its dawning light, proclaims that
- 0:16Speaker 1: Christmas Day at last is here. The children, high aloft
- 0:22Speaker 1: the boar's head, bring, and as they march their merry
- 0:26Speaker 1: carols sing, while Christendom joins in their tuneful lay. For
- 0:30Speaker 1: at this season all are glad and gay, and men
- 0:35Speaker 1: and women, with their hearts aglow, shout out with one
- 0:39Speaker 1: accord on Christmas Day. Hail to the yule log and
- 0:44Speaker 1: the mistletoe, emblems of many, an old time honored right
- 0:49Speaker 1: of boisterous mirth and homely honest cheer the yule log
- 0:54Speaker 1: flaming high and blazing bright, the mistletoe to youths and
- 0:59Speaker 1: maiden see for snap dragon, how they form a ring,
- 1:05Speaker 1: or in a contradance their partners swing. Lord of misrule
- 1:09Speaker 1: makes good his sobriquet, and all his mandates eagerly obey.
- 1:15Speaker 1: He wields the scepter, and with loud hallo cries lustily,
- 1:19Speaker 1: with none to say him nay, Hail to the yule
- 1:23Speaker 1: log and the missiletoe. All climbs and classes own the
- 1:28Speaker 1: season's might. It rules alike the peasant and the peer.
- 1:33Speaker 1: The humblest home presents a happy sight. The sternest judge
- 1:37Speaker 1: forgets to look severe. The very birds fly by on
- 1:41Speaker 1: lighter wing. The blustering north wind seems to lose its sting.
- 1:46Speaker 1: The old and young, the golden haired and gray, devote
- 1:51Speaker 1: the hours to merriment and play. And far across the crispy,
- 1:56Speaker 1: crackling snow, we hear a chorus from a fly slay,
- 2:01Speaker 1: Hail to the yule log and the mistletoe, the chosen
- 2:05Speaker 1: theme of many a fancy's flight, a balladmonger or a sonneteer.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Yearly his Christmas poem will indict of a coy maiden
- 2:15Speaker 1: and her cavalier. Shakespeare full often had his merry fling,
- 2:20Speaker 1: and Milton tuned his harp to noble string irving. The
- 2:24Speaker 1: scenes of Christmas could betray and dickens, its true spirit
- 2:29Speaker 1: could convey to song and story a rich debt we owe,
- 2:34Speaker 1: and with triumphant cheer, this tribute pay hail to the
- 2:38Speaker 1: yule log and the mistletoe. And as the sacred season
- 2:43Speaker 1: circles near all evil thoughts and themes are banished. Quite
- 2:48Speaker 1: our lives become more gentle and sincere. Our hearts can
- 2:52Speaker 1: find no room for dole or spite. Peons of praise
- 2:57Speaker 1: from thankful hearts upspring to celebrate the birthday of the King,
- 3:03Speaker 1: all humbly for our brother's weal. We pray and ask
- 3:06Speaker 1: a blessing on our future way our generous gifts on others.
- 3:11Speaker 1: We bestow peace upon earth, good will to men. We
- 3:15Speaker 1: say hail to the yule Log and the Mistletoe, Envoy
- 3:21Speaker 1: Spirit of Christmas. We accept thee yea right willingly. We
- 3:26Speaker 1: bow beneath thy sway. We join our songs to those
- 3:30Speaker 1: of long ago with this refrain forever and for aye.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Hail to the eu Log and the Mistletoe
