Once upon a time, a recording of the United States Marine Band inspired a boy from East Tennessee to pursue a profession as a band director. Today, Dr. Brandon Houghtalen teaches the next generation of band directors while challenging the traditional notions and narratives that place concert band and wind ensemble music in the back seat to orchestral music.
