• 0:01
Hey, everybody. Full Spectrum Cycling. Show 115 this week, right? I believe, Jason. 116 is next week. We're gonna do that live at the, uh, Bike Fed event out at Indeed Brewing. Indeed.
• 0:17
When was the last time we did a live show? It was probably Fatler By The Lake or something. I don't know. Somewhere, well, not that they're not always live, [clears throat]
• 0:27
in, in an event space that's not the everyday Cycles Revolution studio. I was gonna say, I've never done a live show, but... Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. No, you had on your tux and everything. Yeah, I was late. Hey, everybody.
• 0:38
And they eat up. Yeah. [laughs] It's, it's, it's Sven, JK, and Tony here today. Hi. In the, uh, in the palatial soon to be abandoned space. [laughs] Supposedly power is going, or starting this week, we learned yesterday.
• 0:53
I've got the power. I don't remember a lot of yesterday evening for some reason. Putting details together. Yeah. Yeah, thanks. Thanks for that. Uh, yeah. Well, you know what?
• 1:06
I think we can get right into this whole, uh, show here with, uh, a caller. Welcome caller, who do we have on the line? It's Jason. Jason? Oh, oh, oh, hey. Jason Manders.
• 1:20
Jason from, Jason from Fat Tire Tour Manders of Milwaukee? Wow. Correct, yeah. Wow, that you know all my middle names. Nice. [laughs] You don't... Yeah, you actually don't live in Milwaukee, do you? Yes. I don't.
• 1:32
I'm a Green Bay local. Right. Well, I'm saying the Great White North. [laughs] It's a great- [laughs] Ooh. It's a constant. There we go. Yeah. Look at that.
• 1:42
That was kind of a, that was a deep hole, a deep dive, a deep, a deep cut right there. Yeah, very inside.
• 1:49
[laughs] Yeah, we're finding that people either are very familiar with this year's theme or have no idea what we're talking about. [laughs] Oh, what's this year's theme? [laughs] Yeah, I was wondering. I don't know.
• 2:01
That's why we do a bunch of them out in public. [laughs] Strange Brew, a very obscure movie from the past. Yeah. Yeah, for sure.
• 2:10
Um, well, I, you know, I'm sure people have heard of the Fat Tire Tour in the past on our shows, 'cause I know you've been on in the past, and, uh, PeeWee's I think been on the show. Has he?
• 2:22
Oh, uh, JK has his 29th annual Fat Tire Tour shirt on, June 15th, 2013. Oh. 29. That's the one with the, that's the one with the lips, the, uh, Rocky Horror thing. Oh, okay. Yeah. Yeah. I think that was the, uh,
• 2:38
uh, just biking in a, I was biking in a dance hall club. Oh, yeah, was... That's the one we went to, uh- [laughs] Oh. That's right, that was it. Yeah. Good one. Yeah, that was a good time.
• 2:49
Yeah, they let us kind of do anything. That was great. Well, that was- In the derby, in- inside that was awesome. Yeah. I think that was the pre-ride that I don't- Yeah... did we bike?
• 2:58
I don't, the actual event, I don't think we, we were in the- Right... but we did a derby on the dance floor [laughs] when we were- Yep... scouting the course. That was at the event. Yeah. Yeah, we did that at the event.
• 3:08
That's right. That was the one where, where, where- Oh, did we? Oh... threw the rock at the bottle, wasn't it? Something like that, yeah. Yeah, there were a lot of people in there, man. There was a lot of people.
• 3:18
That was packed. So what, what year, so what year are we at now? 2013. 37. Yeah. 37, holy cow. 37. Yeah. Um, so- Crazy... tell our, tell our listener about, uh, what's going on with this year's event.
• 3:31
I know it's just slightly different than, uh, normal, but not as different as last year was. So- Correct, yeah... just a showdown date- Yeah, so-... where we're meeting, all that kind of stuff... sure.
• 3:44
Yeah, I guess a real quick backstory if you're not familiar, um, it's a casual paced ride.
• 3:50
It's typically like a, a bar hopping experience where we go to different breweries and bars and, uh, people show up with any kind of bike, even though the name now, uh, everyone associates, if you're not familiar, they assume it's a fat bike event 'cause of Fat Tire, but 37 years ago obviously those things weren't around.
• 4:12
So you can ride any bike, uh, of any kind. People sometimes make their own bikes and, uh, it's just like a good time parade o- on bikes that we slow cruise through the town, 15 to 20 miles.
• 4:26
The course is different every year. The theme is different every year, and it's always a surprise the morning of, so you show up and find out what we're doing that day.
• 4:35
Um, and we stop at about four or five different breweries or bars. So that's the, like the backstory real quick. Um, this year we- we're calling it normal.
• 4:48
Um, we're just going to keep in mind, like keeping the environment,
• 4:55
uh, able to be never having to go inside if y- so if anyone doesn't want to go inside all day long, we think we've solved that and, um, that lets people kind of make their own decisions.
• 5:07
So you can go inside if you want, but otherwise we'll have food and bathroom options all outside and, um, and other than that though, it's gonna be fairly normal.
• 5:20
So we're gonna cruise around the city and stop at four or five places and, and, uh, experience what Milwaukee has to offer. Uh, sounds great. What's, what's your policy on e-bikes?
• 5:35
[laughs] We don't have any policy on any bikes, so I guess just [laughs] do anything you want. [laughs] I'm just looking at a couple of electric Sharps and thinking how fun those would be to do the Fat Tire Tour.
• 5:44
Oh, yeah, no doubt. Oh, yeah. I mean, they do have pretty fat tires on them, so. Yeah.
• 5:48
Well, I, uh, [laughs] historically I keep carrying a larger and larger speaker on my bike and there could be a year where I go e-bike just to, to take some of the burden off.
• 5:59
Um, but- When you get the full Marshall stack going behind the bike. [laughs] Yep. [laughs] Exactly. Uh, no, this isn't a race. Uh, so it's open course. We, we don't control the streets at all.
• 6:11
Um, we just give you a map so you can do anything you want. An e-bike is not cheating. Um, so whatever, whatever you feel comfortable with. About how many miles total?
• 6:24
Uh, I think this year it's gonna come in about 17 miles, but it's...
• 6:28
We're always in the 15 to 20 range, and then we, we add bonus loops, 'cause there are people that want more distance, and we try to find some, like, urban underground- That means-... trails.
• 6:40
And so, you know, you can always break 20 if you want. See. But the official course is in the 15 to 20 range. Sure. Right on. Um, what, it's, so it's on the 19th, June 19th this year, correct? June 19th, yeah.
• 6:54
We're always, uh, a- I- almost always the third Saturday or Father's Day weekend traditionally, so, um, that's a good guide. Once in a while, the calendar
• 7:06
shifts in a way that we have to, like, jump forward or back off of that, but, um- Yeah, I kinda know how that- So, yeah... Steel is Real this year because of the rescheduling of Summerfest.
• 7:16
We're actually gonna do it on the 28th of August instead of its traditional second- Oh... week in, um, September. But- Yeah... there's too much going on- Okay...
• 7:26
at Summerfest, too many bands I wanna see to not be able to- [laughs] Yeah... possibility. So August 28th- Yeah... Steel is Real, which would've been Pee-Wee's other ride, so. Yep. Yeah, right. Nailed it.
• 7:38
And I don't know exactly- Yeah... what it's gonna look like yet. I haven't... It's probably time to make an event for that, I guess, huh? Sort of a save the date thing going on. Sure. Probably, yeah. Mm-hmm.
• 7:48
So you guys, we're gonna meet, uh, at the traditional s- starting spot, Best Place, is that correct? Best Place, yep. We...
• 7:54
It, back in the day, it would change location, start locations too, and it just became a bit of a nightmare of as we grew and grew to, you know, we've broken 550 people the year before COVID.
• 8:06
So we found a great spot at, at Best Place, and they can handle probably double if we actually grew that big. So yeah, that spot we wouldn't change short of them going out of business.
• 8:18
And, uh- Oh, no, they're- Then from there we just- They did have a little bit of a tough time.
• 8:23
I was up there for a quasi car show last weekend, even though they didn't lift the mask mandate until the 1st, so they didn't have some of the parked cars pulled off the street.
• 8:32
But it was still a pretty good event, and I saw Jim and Karen, and they were enthusiastic about things reopening and them being able to actually- Oh, yeah...
• 8:41
maybe have more than 10 people in their building at a time, so. Yeah, right.
• 8:45
Yeah, I mean, they, they've expanded over the years, so they've got, you know, multiple halls and, and outside spaces and, and I think they're trying to block the street off this all summer.
• 8:56
I don't know if that permit went through, but- Oh... um- Mm. That active street. They were telling me- Yeah, that would be cool... they were hoping that- Other-... the street would be closed. That would be great.
• 9:06
Other places are able to get it done. I think there's, Nomad's closed now, isn't it? Yeah. Yeah. There's a couple places that have already gotten it pushed through, so I would expect that, uh...
• 9:15
You know, that's not really, it's not a through street anyway, so I don't see why they wouldn't shut it down. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Right. And, but either way, like we kind of block all traffic when we're there anyway, so.
• 9:26
[laughs] Right. We kinda stand around in the middle of the road, saying, "Yeah, you gonna wanna-" We don't need a permit. [laughs] Yeah. Come on, car. Get your common sense. What the... Yeah, yeah. Well.
• 9:36
So what, what time do, uh- Yeah... what time do festivities get underway? Well, we always plan for a 10:00 rollout, um, but we tell people, like, they should try to get there at 8:30 or 9:00 at the latest to register.
• 9:50
It takes a little bit, and then grab a drink, and just, we got a DJ, and just enjoy the morning so you're not rushed and, and, you know, if you wanna stash something in your car, like the swag kit we give out, you gotta run all the way back to your car in a parking ramp.
• 10:05
It's, so we try to say, like, you shouldn't show up past 9:00 if possible, and then we sh- shut registration at 9:45,
• 10:15
and some last-minute announcements, maybe a costume contest or something before we head out at 10:00. Sounds good. Um, hey- Yeah, we play bike games all day too. I didn't, I probably didn't mention that.
• 10:28
Like every stop, we also have some- Yeah, we also have a lot of fun, like, like bashing the half barrel or quarter barrel or whatever it was and stuff. Yep. Right. Beer barrel bump. [laughs] Yeah.
• 10:35
I think we had, we had, we had bowling one year. Yep. I think. Yeah, there's like- Uh... eight or nine games we rotate through the years, yeah. Um- Some off-piste, you know, the some, the skid contest.
• 10:49
Being that it's Friday today- Yeah... uh, when does, uh, so registration, is there any kind of, uh, deal people should know about or is it already too late for those slackers that haven't signed up yet?
• 11:00
No, it's a g- this is good timing. Um, the price goes up on Monday, uh, but only five bucks, so it's not like that big of a deal.
• 11:08
But, uh, you can register now for the cheapest rate at 40 bucks, and all day you get drink deals. So we negotiate good prices on drinks and food.
• 11:21
Um, you'll probably save m- you know, if you're official, you get a wristband to know you're part of the event. Um, you'll probably save, uh, the, the price of your registration throughout the day.
• 11:34
Plus, uh, we have a pretty good swag kit usually, so, um, I think it's a good value and, but it goes up five bucks next week, and then day of is, is another five bucks more, so 50 bucks. Very good.
• 11:49
Well, I, I'm looking forward to it because, uh, I like, you know, if the weather was like today, it's gonna be a bitching day. [laughs] It's beautiful down here- Yeah... today. So.
• 11:58
I'll say, like, I hope I don't jinx, I say this all the time, like traditionally, 37 years, maybe three days or three years we had rain of any significance, so, um, we're very blessed on that side.
• 12:12
Yeah, it's always been good. It's not like rolling the dice with Santa Rampage where it could be- Right... 70 or 30 with snow and sleet and uh, so. [laughs] Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
• 12:21
All right, man, any, any final thoughts, uh, you wanna let the folks know about before we let you get back- Uh... to what you're doing? No, I guess, uh, I think we covered, uh, everything. Um, I think I'm good. Right on.
• 12:34
Well, I appreciate you- Cool... calling in and, uh, you know, it's, uh, Fat Tire... Is it fattiretoure.com? Fattiretoure.com, yeah, to get information and see c- like cool video about the history of this event.
• 12:49
That's, that's something that I think's really unique is all the people that have started doing this in the last five, maybe 10 years, it's a really good time, fun party, but there's a, a really nice history behind all this that, that is a little lost.
• 13:04
We have a video on our homepage that captures what this used to be like. Um, all the guys that sort of started this, they're, you know, in their 60s now, but they're still doing it and it's just, it's cool.
• 13:15
Like, it, it was a bunch of guys that just loved bikes when they were sort of first being invented, you know, fat tire bikes, and- [laughs]... it started a really cool thing. Yeah. Yeah.
• 13:26
Yeah, well, I'm glad you can carry it on. Uh, uh, I don't know if people know that Pee Wee is, you know, he's getting older and he's had some, uh, some health issues.
• 13:34
Um, but he still, uh, shows up every ride, at least for the- Yep. In fact, he's...
• 13:40
Yeah, he does it on a, a dual or a tandem recumbent, and they've got a power assist wheel 'cause he has trouble making it the whole course, so he's hoping to try to do the whole thing this year still, so that'd be cool.
• 13:53
Yeah, that would be great. I, I mean, he's got a, a good captain on the front of the, the tandem- Yep... trike and, uh, that should be a great thing. All right. Yeah.
• 14:02
So, a couple, couple weeks from now we'll, we'll welcome you back to Milwaukee. Yep. Yeah. All right. Thank you. Thank you very much. Yep. [laughs] Talk- Yep, see you soon... to you tonight. Bye-bye. Bye.
• 14:13
All right, everybody. Jason Manders from the Fat Tire Tour of Milwaukee. They are, uh, gonna do that thing on June 19th.
• 14:21
They're gonna start it at about, uh, 8:30, 9:00, roll out at 10:00, 10:30, 11:00, whenever it finally gets rolling. You know, that kind of thing. Yeah, I thought I- It, it usually gets late...
• 14:29
I thought I missed the early deadline, and then I get to that point of hand-wringing going, "Ah. Ah." And then I was like, "Oh, yeah, there's another day." But- Yeah, so you got a- This is gonna save me 10 bucks...
• 14:40
you got a couple of days to, uh, get in on the, the, the best part of the deal at, uh, fattiretoure.com. Register there and- I need another T-shirt... join thousands of others- I'm helping out... in Milwaukee- [laughs]
• 14:52
... for that fun event. Uh, speaking of fun stuff, welcome to the radio program caller. Who do we have on the line? It's Seely Dave. Hey, hey. All right. Seely Dave from up in, well, Seely, I guess, right?
• 15:08
[laughs] Yeah, up in Seely, the, the Hollywood Hills just outside of the busy downtown metropolis of Seely, Wisconsin. Yeah. There's a, there's a crossroads there. There's not a stop sign though.
• 15:22
[laughs] No, well, one direction there's a stop sign, but not the other. Uh, yeah, just, uh, where- It's not a four-way... Cowboy intersects. Yeah, but it... Well, no, it's not. It's not a Holly- We have no stops...
• 15:30
like a Holbrook and- Yeah... Hollyhock and Hollyhock Avenue and stuff like that... and stuff like that, yes. Um, so we have an event next week here in Milwaukee.
• 15:40
You probably know about it, but it's a, uh, bike fed oriented thing at Indeed Brewing. It's part of their Indeed We Can series- Yeah... where they're helping out- Yeah... nonprofits and doing some fundraising- Right...
• 15:52
or whatever they do down there. Yep. We're actually gonna- Yeah, it sounds super fun... actually gonna do our show from there. It's gonna be fun, so. Oh, that's awesome, guys. Man, that's really cool. Yeah. Yeah.
• 16:00
That's, uh, that sounds really great. Um, yeah, you know, boy, you know, I... L- Liz and I and Cowboy, you know, absolutely love it up here, of course.
• 16:10
Um, but we certainly do ha- There's lots of things we, we miss about Milwaukee. We were just down recently for, my brother was playing with the Trash Mountain Trio at Cohanski's, um, so we went down for that.
• 16:23
Um, and I brought a welder back that I had left behind and now I, I just wanted to pick up.
• 16:28
But, um, so yeah, we miss Milwaukee and I actually, I confessed to you, I think I sent you a text like, "I was gonna sign in early just so I could listen to Jason," um, 'cause, uh, I, you know, I miss the Fat Tire Tour of Milwaukee, of course.
• 16:41
Um, and but I do have a bit of local connection to that right here in my own little Hollywood Hills development in Seely.
• 16:50
Um, and I may have mentioned this to listeners in the past, but just down, uh, Hollywood Lane, the very end of Hollywood Lane, um, is the original sawmill built by Gary Penman, who built the Sawmill Saloon in, in my development, which is all built around s- the original ski trails in Seely, the OG ski trails here.
• 17:12
And, um, this was all happening around the time that Phil Van Valkenburg was the marketing director at Telemark. And so his...
• 17:23
When Gary B- came up here and, um, Phil was driving this old AMC Rebel, this 1960s AMC Rebel that was on the verge of death, and he always called it his, his Rebel without a clutch because the clutch was dying.
• 17:37
[laughs] And so when the clutch finally died, he donated the power plant from his AMC Rebel to Gary Penman, who stuck it in the sawmill that's just down my neighborhood bike trail here.
• 17:50
Um, and that sawmill was the original sawmill that Gary used to build all the houses in our development, as well as, like, the sawmill and the Lendert Lodge and stuff like that, so.
• 18:00
So there's a Pee Wee connection everywhere you go in Wisconsin. Yeah, it seems like it, for sure. [laughs] He's definitely made his mark, no doubt about that. [laughs] Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely.
• 18:12
So you've got something exciting going on up there this weekend. What's, uh- Yeah, for sure
• 18:18
So our, our CAMBA pals from, uh, Coon Valley, Wisconsin, uh, Chris Jackson and his crew from Bora Teamwear have been putting together this, uh, you know, really great race, the Bora Epic on CAMBA single track, um, for, for quite a few years.
• 18:39
And the, the proceeds from, from the event have gone to CAMBA and, and recently we're sharing some of those proceeds with, uh, um, Minnesota NICA team. They, they ride a lot over here on our trails as well.
• 18:51
But, um, so that's been going on for a really long time, and it's an interesting race because i- lots of people have done the Chequamegon Mountain Bike Festival 40 that, you know, Gary Crandell and those guys all put together, you know, whatever, 38 years ago.
• 19:06
Um, talk about the OGs of, uh, the mountain bike, fat bike world. And, um- Right... but they, you know, but Phil was up here at the same time as well, so Peewee wa- is great friends with those guys.
• 19:18
Um, but, uh, so it all sort of like is a, a small little world. But, but, you know, that race is so big that, that you can't really include much CAMBA single track on it.
• 19:29
So Chris Jackson, um, and the guys at Bora Teamwear who come up here and ride all the time as well, um,
• 19:38
they put together this, this Bora Epic that is, you know, 35, 36 miles of just single track and of CAMBA single track. So it's, it's a long ass race all on single track.
• 19:51
And, um, it's been won typically by a lot of the sort of like, you know, uh, big names that you've heard of before. You know, Matt Acker and Jesse Lalonde and, you know, that sort of crew.
• 20:04
Um- Jeff Ball maybe in there [laughs] Right, yeah. All, all that sort of, those sorts of folks have, have been winners. But, um, it, it utilizes the best of the CAMBA single track.
• 20:15
And then so I worked really closely with, uh, um,
• 20:20
with the event managers this year, a- one of whom is a, a local guy who's a good buddy of mine, TJ Barnes, and he's been helping with the course, uh, layout for a lot of years and marking it with arrows and all that sort of stuff.
• 20:33
And, and we w- went and rode through that with the management team and, and put in some, some good passing zones.
• 20:41
So, so like you don't have to worry if you're, you know, sort of like feeling like, "Well, I'm faster than the 10 people in front of me, but I can't get around them." There's gonna be a passing zone not that far away.
• 20:53
Um, so, so, uh, the race is sold out as far as I know for the mountain bike race.
• 20:59
There's also a, uh, a gravel, uh, course, um, that's a n- a 36-mile gravel course that's pretty fun as well, so people can still sign up for that.
• 21:10
But, um, uh, the Half Epic, which is half the course, it starts at, uh, the Double O trailhead, um, the r- the Full Epic starts down in Hayward at the, at the fish hatchery, um, Hatchery Creek trailhead, and then ends at the Birkie start area up in Cable.
• 21:29
So it rides essentially the, the entire length of the, you know, sort of OG, um, CAMBA system from Hayward to, to Cable. But, um, but so people should look at it. You can't sign up for the Full Epic.
• 21:43
I know that's sold out. The Half might be sold out. I'm not positive. Uh, but, um, it's, it's a really great race and a super fun vibe.
• 21:53
Uh, I'm gonna pick up, uh, I think 60 cases of beer from, that Bent Paddle is, is donating. I'm going up to Bent Paddle tomorrow and picking up all that beer, and so we'll have that for the racers.
• 22:06
Um, CAMBA's gonna have a bunch of cool- You're gonna have 30? You're gonna have 30 cases when you get back to Seely? [laughs] Right, um, where is Bent Paddle? Is that- There may be a, there may be a stash dropped up.
• 22:20
That, Bent Paddle's in Duluth. Um- Okay, yeah... Bent Paddle's in Duluth. Right. Got it. Uh, so they're, they're, yeah, they're, uh, uh, they've been longtime sponsors of, of stuff up here.
• 22:30
And, you know, I mean, we kinda like up here in the Northwoods, um, uh, you know, I, I've always been a proud son of Wisconsin. Most of your listeners that know me know me for, for that.
• 22:41
Um, and, um, I've always sort of, uh, been a little bit jealously guarding our, our treasured trails and things like that and promoting them, uh, first over our neighbors.
• 22:54
That said, up here in northern Wisconsin, we kind of have this sort of like, uh, uh, South Shore Superior mountain bike club up here where, you know, we,
• 23:07
our, our, our trail users are, you know, even our locals will go ride in Duluth, you know, or, you know, and, and the, the folks up at Marquette, um, come down and ride here.
• 23:18
So there's kind of like this, this South Shore or if you wanna call it a North Shore if you're from southern Wisconsin, um, South Shore if you're talking about Lake Superior.
• 23:28
Kind of a, you know, regional, um, thing going on. And so, so Bent Paddle being a part of this, even though they're a Minnesota beer, they're a great beer, you know.
• 23:38
And, and, uh, uh, Fulton Beer is a, a part of like, Bent Paddle and Fulton are both part of like the Chequamegon Mountain Bike Festival.
• 23:46
I'm actually, I don't know if we're at the top of the hill yet, but I'm drinking a Fulton Sweet Child of Vine IPA right now, so [laughs] Oh, I'm happy to hear it.
• 23:54
Let's try and, uh, let's try and get to the top of the hill soon. [laughs] Yeah. I, I don't know, I've been kind of slacking on getting to the top of the hill lately.
• 24:00
I don't know, maybe this is the first time I just beat you guys to the top of the hill in a while. [laughs] So what are you, what are you sucking down?
• 24:08
I, I got a Fulton, uh, Sweet Child of Vine, uh, IPA, which is just a great freaking name, and it's a delicious IPA. It's a 6.4%, uh, 69 IBU You know, it's, it's pretty middle of the road as far as an IBA- IPA goes.
• 24:24
It's not like a, uh, an East Coast, you know, punch-you-in-the-gut sort of like hoppy IPA, but it's got some kick to it as well, so it's a, it's a nice, nice beer.
• 24:35
Yeah, we're on, uh, Sierra Nevada's Wild Little Thing, which is a slightly sour ale. I, it's- Ah, cool... the original- Biscuit and strawberry... the original taste, yeah, I, I caught strawberry right off the bat.
• 24:48
Me too. But now that I've been, now that I've already had almost a full one, I don't really quite get the strawberry vibe I did originally. It had a little pink foam- Yeah... like the light too. Yeah. Ah, okay. Yeah.
• 24:57
[laughs] Yeah, it's good stuff. Sounds good though. It's only, it's only 5.5, which, uh, that's probably a good thing for Tony and I today.
• 25:04
[laughs] I- We were- I s- actually, with dinner w- we had, uh, Jessica Weinberg and Michael came up last weekend and, and visited us and they brought us a, a l- a little, a gift of a, uh, a foundation cocktail in a bag.
• 25:21
And so we had, uh, I can't remember what it was called now. The initials were KU. Anybody know? They're, they're- You usually can't after drinking there. Yeah. [laughs] Right.
• 25:31
I think we're gonna stop by there- Well, we split it... after tonight. [laughs] We split it.
• 25:35
Liz and I split it for dinner, so like we've only had like a half a, half a foundation cocktail each, and then this beer here, but, uh- Yeah, that's- But so yeah, but- Let's, let's, let's revive going to Foundation after the show today.
• 25:47
So we're going to Foundation after the show. All right. I'm, I'm, I'm glad I spearheaded that effort. [laughs] Yeah. Thank, thank you. You gotta thank, thank Jessica, thank Jessica for that one.
• 25:58
So I, I looked up, uh, so borahepic.com is actually a website that has all the information about the Borah Epic, which is- Yeah... actually happening tomorrow. But, uh, you know, for next year, plan ahead.
• 26:08
How early- Oh, right. Today's Friday... do they cap the event at, um... Yeah, right. [laughs] Where do they cap the event at, uh, participant-wise? I don't remember, but I know that the full course is sold out.
• 26:20
I do know that. I don't remember at this point, especially given it's Friday today and I'm not actually living on Friday time, um, I don't know if, what, if the half Epic is sold out.
• 26:31
Um, and, uh, uh, I, I know the gravel race is open and people can come up for that. Um, and the gravel course is pretty freaking great. It's, it's 35 miles, so it's pretty doable, but don't let that fool you.
• 26:45
It's really hilly and there's some, some chunky gravel. It's not just like a gravel road.
• 26:51
There's, there's some connections that are made on, on, uh, you know, snowmobile, ATV trails and stuff like that, so, uh, which I love personally, so I think it's a really great route. Yeah. I'm looking at the site.
• 27:05
Basically right now they're saying, "Sorry, the event is full on all of them." But, uh- Is it? That's what it says. Well, I tell you what. Full Epic, half Epic, gravel Epic. I tell you what, I,
• 27:15
I know the or- I know the organizers, so if, if, if your absol- if any of your listeners are on Friday and, and are just like jonesing to get up here and ride, send an email to info@borah.com, uh, or whatever the, the, you know, email is on, on their, uh...
• 27:34
Is it borahepic.com, info@borahepic.com? Right. Yeah. Send an email and, and ask to get in on, on one of the, the events. The, the, like I said, the mountain bike one has been sold out for a while, but I bet there's...
• 27:47
They might have closed registration just because they don't wanna like add new people to the- Yeah. No... gravel race at this sort of- We're, we're- But I-... halfway, so maybe Right.
• 27:57
But if, if there's a, if, you know, if there's 15 or 20 of your listeners that are like, "Oh, I... Let's do it. Let's do it," um, just shoot an email and ask and say- Yeah...
• 28:07
say, "Seely Dave said I might be able to get in." [laughs] Right on. All right, Dave. Well, thanks for the update. Uh, I'm actually gonna see you next weekend, right? Yeah. Yeah. Next weekend already- Absolutely...
• 28:18
up there for Prime and Utley. Uh, I'm gonna blast- Yeah... through Wausau and spend the night there and I have never ridden the Ringgle Trail up there yet, so I'm gonna do that and then- Oh, sweet... head your way.
• 28:29
So I'll see you Friday- Yeah, I think that's what-... at some point. All right. Well, um, and, uh, you know, I don't know who your guests are on next week, but I might have a big reveal.
• 28:39
Um, I'm not sure yet, but, um, if you, if you want somebody to call in next week, give me a jingle and I might have a big reveal. All right.
• 28:47
We're gonna be doing the live thing, but I'll ha- we'll, we'll have the full rig down there at Indeed, so I- we- Right, if you can take call... can take the call, no problem.
• 28:54
Absolutely But if it's crazy, it's, it's not a thing. Uh, we'll just catch up when you get up here, buddy. Right on. All right, buddy. All right. Good talking to you. Thanks, Dave. You bet. See you guys. Bye-bye.
• 29:07
All right, everybody. Seely Dave calling from up there in, uh, northern Wisco. You know who's been super freaking patient today? My God. I just... We have... Hey, welcome to the radio program callers. We have callers.
• 29:19
[laughs] Did that dude say 60 cases of beer? Yeah. Yeah, he did. That's, uh, yes. I, I'm, I'm there. It's a bike race, dude. [laughs] All right. I, I'm, I'm- Over there...
• 29:33
uh, y'all, y'all must be running low on time, and so am I. I'm getting picked up. I'm at, I'm at a bar on Cape Cod and I'm, and I'm getting picked up. Yeah, what bar again? Um, uh, uh, uh, Barn, Barn Stable. Oh, nice.
• 29:49
Excellent. I love that place actually. Yeah, um, yeah, no, and, and, and I, I've been doing Cape Cod for the last three weeks. Nice. Um, I've been, I've, I've, I've been getting coddled and so has Heather. Uh.
• 30:01
Heather is got this attitude. Any- anyway, um, the, the, um, I got a whole plan on how I'm gonna meet you guys. Is, is it 24 or 25th, right? Of July would be... But yeah, that's the 23rd, no, 30th. Yeah.
• 30:18
  I, I've, I've, I've got it. I've got it. I- 30th. 30th and 31st, I guess. Yeah. Uh, well- Well, I, I can't do the 31st 'cause I, I gotta be up in Merrill for my birthday. Oh, okay.
• 30:30
Well, we'll do it the week before, but, uh, I don't know- Yeah. Well-... Tony, T- did you get your voucher? I have to email them. I have not yet.
• 30:37
My voucher showed up in the mail the other day, so the, the ticket thing that we, uh, did with the, with the, uh, whatever you call it. What? Who does it? Right. Dream, Dream Bike. We did it through Dream Bikes.
• 30:50
Um, and then so we've got the, we've got the voucher for the tickets already, so. So, uh, okay, okay. Is that...
• 30:58
So, so all that aside, I mean, the, the, the, the future aside, I wanna talk about what happened when I got the, when I got to Cape Cod two weeks ago. Um- Do tell...
• 31:11
I was, I was planning on, I was planning on, uh, replacing the rims and ordering the rims from Schwinn, from Pacific Cycle to get, to get new rims because I looked down, uh, and I was in Rhode Island.
• 31:24
I looked down and I saw there was four spokes missing in like the, the same general area. I'm like, "If I hit a bad bump, it's all over." Yeah. Right? So I, uh, decided I was gonna, I was...
• 31:39
I, you know, I, I was already planning on replacing my, my, my two back rims when I got to Cape Cod. So I called Schwinn, and they're backlogged. They're backlogged until August. And I said, "Oh, shit." Yeah.
• 31:55
So I took my... I took Heather, I took Heather to Bike Zone, which is the bike shop around here, uh, at Cape Cod, and they, they do, they do wonderful work. I'm not saying anything bad about them whatsoever,
• 32:11
except for this. [laughs] They're only the pregnant parts. They, they, they, they, they replaced the spokes and screwed up the wheels really nice and tight. All good. Um, and then, but when I... And
• 32:27
when I, when I dropped the bike off, he said it might be, uh, mid-next week. It was a Friday when I dropped it off, and he said, "Yeah, probably Wednesday or Thursday next week." I said, "Okay, no problem."
• 32:39
I went back to the house, and I took a nap, and I woke up to a missed call and a voicemail, and he said, "You can pick your bike up today if you want to." And I said, "Well, how the fuck long was I sleeping for?" Yeah.
• 32:52
[laughs] Right? They gotta call first.
• 32:54
And so, and, and then, and then I got there, and the guy's like, "Yeah, we screwed up your wheels nice and tight, and then, uh, we noticed that your, your, your chain, your chain was a little off.
• 33:06
Your main chain and your secondary chain was a little off, so we fixed that. That's gonna be an extra $35." Ooh. And I said, "Well, um, what?"
• 33:16
He's like, "Oh, yeah, no, if you, if you didn't get that fixed, you, you wouldn't make another, an- another 20 miles on, on that chain." I said, "Excuse me.
• 33:26
I replaced the main chain in Myrtle Beach, and I haven't even had a flat tire or nothing wrong with the bike the whole time between Myrtle Beach and here, and you're telling me that if you didn't fix that, I wouldn't make another 20 miles?
• 33:42
And you didn't even call me to ask me." I would've, I would've said, "Yeah, go for it. Fix it." But they're, they're all like, they're, they're, they're trying to tell... I'm like, "You're fucking full of shit."
• 33:54
Like, I, I- That's right. It's, it's standard operating procedure for the shop to call somebody and, and- Right. Totally... and discuss if there's any additional work needed. That's, uh- Right. They, they didn't-...
• 34:05
a little... they didn't, they didn't, they didn't call me. They didn't call me. They just said, "Come pick up your bike," and then they tried to add on another 35, extra $35. And I'm like, "You know what?
• 34:14
Because if you would have called me, I would've said go ahead." So I just paid it, and now Heather's ready to rock. But I was- All right... a little upset with them for not, for not saying nothing. You know?
• 34:28
Like, like, nothing. At least call me and tell me. Right. For real. So remind us- It, it-...
• 34:34
of how, of how to, of how to donate to, to Heather's, uh, upkeep because, you know, I mean, you're, you're not made out of money out there. Is, is there a way- No. No, no, no. Not at all... get you a couple of bucks?
• 34:48
Well, um, uh, you can go, uh, Jason-Becker-60 on Venmo, or it's, uh, becca504 on, uh, I believe it's becca504 on, on, on PayPal.
• 35:04
It's all on, on, on He- I have it bookmarked on there personally somewhere, so [laughs] Yeah. It's, it's all, it's all on Heather Is A Tricycle on Facebook too. Sure.
• 35:14
Um, but, um, I have a, I have a, I have a serious plan. I'm leaving, um, I'm leaving Cape Cod a week from today,
• 35:24
and then, um, going all the way across New York to Niagara Falls to nap a pic with Heather in front of Niagara Falls. Then I'm hugging Lake Erie down to Worcester, Ohio.
• 35:36
I got friends that are putting me up there for a weekend, for Fourth of July weekend. Then I'm gonna go to Cedar Point and ride some roller coasters. [laughs] Yeah. And then I'm gonna, um, stop in on Detroit.
• 35:49
Sounds lovely. Stop, stop in on, uh, Battle Creek, Michigan, where my auntie is, and I'm gonna meet y'all in Muskegon, Michigan, for some riding and some, some boat riding. Sounds good. Looking forward to it.
• 36:00
But then I, I, I, I gotta get up- Actually, it's coming up on us. Literally, it's like, it's just down the road really. It's not very far. Right. But I mean, it, it seems, like, far away, doesn't it?
• 36:11
Not, not the way this year's been going. Not anymore. I don't know what the heck when this thing is, but it's, this year has been speeding past. Yeah, I know.
• 36:19
Um, um, I'll, I'll tell you what, and, um, and, and, and I'm not saying that they didn't do good work on, on Heather, but they, they didn't, they didn't clear it with me at first, then they charged me an extra $35 for it.
• 36:32
It's like, "Hey, man- Decorum. Not cool. Decorum, people. Yeah. Yeah. I, I feel you. And like, and, and, and I'm like, I'm like, "I just rode this tricycle from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to here with zero problems.
• 36:46
Nothing. And you're gonna sit here and tell me straight to the face that I wouldn't make it another 20 miles on that chain? You gotta be fucking kidding me, dude." Which one was it?
• 36:58
There's, uh, North Falmouth, South Yarmouth, and there's Hyannis. Is it one of those? Hyannis. Bike Zone. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Call them... Well, that's where the Kennedys are from, right?
• 37:08
Well, I, I already- [laughs] I got their, I got their, I got their sticker on the fender from the last time I was in town. They were totally cool to me.
• 37:15
And I'm like, the, the, to think that you, you know, you're just gonna like straight up lie to me in my face like, "Oh, if I didn't get that 35 extra dollars worth of work." I'm like, "Dude, you're full of shit.
• 37:27
I would've... If you would've called me, if you would've called me and said, 'Well, we gotta do this and this and that to the chain,' I'm like, 'Go for it. Do it.'" But they didn't.
• 37:37
They said, "Come pick up your tricycle," and then they added it on. I'm like, "That's fucking shady, yo." Yeah. And they've only got...
• 37:45
I mean, I don't wanna call out shops, 'cause I got lambasted by some customer that thought I kept some of his stuff, which I didn't.
• 37:51
But, uh, you know, they only have three and a half stars on Yelp, and it, it, they like, uh, would charge me more than I planned. Right. I paid $200 more for it, which is like- Yeah.
• 38:02
And same thing, Tim at Bike Zone talks a big game and then rips you off. So I, I'm- Well, see-... not calling the guy out. I'm just reading the Yelp reviews right now and saying like- Right...
• 38:11
you know, maybe- Well, see, the, the amount, the amount wasn't the thing. Just call me and say, "Let..." I, I would've, I would've gladly said, "Yeah, go ahead. Fix it.
• 38:22
I want, I want her ready to rock when I leave Cape Cod." Absolutely. Yeah, I- I mean, no, no, no problem. But call me and ask me versus instead of just, "Hey, come pick up your tricycle.
• 38:33
Oh, by the way, you owe us 35 extra dollars." Yeah. Well- It w- i- is that, that gonna, that gonna, that gonna stack- Well, if you get a free compense from, uh, from, uh, somebody, we'll send you some money, man.
• 38:45
I mean, you shouldn't have to- No, no, no... pay for their mistake. [laughs] It... But, but you know what?
• 38:51
And, and I'll, and I'll tell you what, and, and it was, it was, it was a better feeling for me that I'm like, I'm like, "Yeah, I just rode that tricycle with that chain where, where it was from Myrtle Beach all the way up the East Coast, all the way to Cape Cod, and I had zero problems.
• 39:11
And here you are telling me that I'm gonna have problems." I'm like, "Yeah, right. But hey, you wanna fix something, go ahead." You know?
• 39:18
It, it wa- it wasn't, it wasn't that big a deal, but at the same time it's like, man, kind of left a little stank in my mouth, if you know what I'm saying. Yeah. Right on. Y'all ever had stank in your mouth? No.
• 39:31
[laughs] Way too often. [laughs] All right, man. Well, thanks for checking in today. Uh, give us a call whenever you feel like it. When are, when are you actually leaving Cape Cod? Did we talk about that?
• 39:42
I'm, uh, uh, Wed- Wednesday, Wednesday next week. I'm, uh,
• 39:46
I'm, uh, getting, I'm getting dropped off just, just west of the, of the Cape, and then I'm heading to Albany, and then it's 95% bike path all the way from Albany to Cleveland.
• 40:01
I'm gonna be on a bike path for most of the time. I'm- Oh... I'm gonna be in heaven. Backroad. That's awesome. Yeah. Yeah. I... That's great. So I'll be, I'll be- All right...
• 40:11
checking on, check- checking in with you guys then. Some- somebody go help, help him drink those 60 cases of beer. Oh my God.
• 40:19
[laughs] I'll be up there, I'm gonna go up there next weekend, so hopefully he has a couple left, so, uh, we'll see. All right. Yeah. And we'll, we'll get into, we'll get into logistics about Muskegon and all that.
• 40:29
It's, it's all good either way. I, uh, I'm, I'm, you know, uh, just looking forward to hanging out with you guys and, and, uh, making you guys ride slow just [laughs] as it rolls close. [laughs] I like riding slow.
• 40:40
It's one of my favorite things to do. I'm, I'm totally the other way. [laughs] All right. Next time, brother. All right. Thank you. All right, man. Hey, y'all take it easy now. Nice, nice talking to you. All right. Bye.
• 40:52
Yeah. Wow. Three callers in one show. Holy mackerel. It's almost like we had, I mean, that we have at least three fans that call us. Yeah. Um, I don't even know what we didn't get through.
• 41:03
We're gonna get through your thing next week about what we were gonna get through that we didn't get through this week, and, uh- We'll move on...
• 41:09
I'm gonna do, I think I'm gonna throw, uh, another Chewy salon chair up pretty quick here. I might even do it tomorrow, or yesterday. Yeah. Exactly.
• 41:17
Uh, he's got this beer century one, it's really good, from some guys out in Arizona that do this thing called the beer century. Oh. I've been slacking about it.
• 41:25
It actually happened just before, uh, I think it happened just before Thanksgiving, actually- Oh... last, last these, last yearies. But, uh, yeah, so check that out. I don't know.
• 41:36
Indeed We Can on the 9th, blah, blah, blah. You know what? We'll just catch up next week. Movies at Uptown. Oh, yeah. 37. When does that start? I put it on here.
• 41:46
I forgot even when it, uh- It's for the 37th reference I got in there. Yeah. So when is it? Uh, it starts, I believe, the next week for two weeks. We got to- And are we gonna see Jay and Silent Bob, or are we not?
• 42:02
I have no idea. Probably not. I, I understand they show up at most of them, at least- Sure... at some point. Yeah. That's what I figured. But, hey, so- It seems like it's a, like, it, it's a reservation. I know.
• 42:11
It's like- It looks like-... yeah, it's 29 bucks, and you get, uh, you know, you get some stuff for that. And, but I, I don't know. I'm hemming and hawing. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. It's certainly a good thing, though.
• 42:22
I mean, it should be a good thing. Yeah. And- We'll do it in, in case I don't. Right. Yeah. Somebody may call and talk about- [laughs] Yeah. Come out. All right, buddy. Play Guitar.
• 42:31
Thanks very much for spending your extra time with us this week, and, uh, I guess we'll be... Oh, we're gonna be live next week, so there you go. That's right. Live and buzzing.
• 42:41
So if you wanna throw, like, tomatoes at us or some such. But so, okay, real quick because it was so great.
• 42:48
The, uh, Keith Moon, when he was the drummer for The, The Who back in the olden times, used to talk about turning his cymbal upside down when they were throwing vegetables at him so he could make a salad.
• 43:01
[laughs] So I may have to have a cymbal just in case you wanna throw, uh, you know, lettuce and tomatoes. Maybe small tomatoes, but, uh, anyway- Run through the salad... again, I say adieu. Au revoir. Auf Wiedersehen
