- Brandon Dirmann: Well, welcome once again to another episode of the Daily Word Podcast. My name is Brandon, and I am one of the pastors here at our church. And just want to say thank you so much for taking time to listen to this podcast. We really do hope that it's a blessing to you. And ⁓ I haven't asked this in a while. So I I think that that that I'm I'm I'm due for I'm due for a good ask. ⁓ I'm asking you that if you listen to this on a daily basis or on a regular basis, and it really is blessing and encouraging you, that you would take time. To ⁓ share this. ⁓ like, subscribe, leave a comment, but share the episode with someone. ⁓ help us to get the word out to continue to reach and encourage people because it really is our heart to encourage people every day with a truth from God's word and remind them that God desires to meet with them in a real way in the secret place every single day. ⁓ the goal of our daily word podcast, it is to do those two things, and we do it. By using the New Testament portion of the Life Journal Reading Plan. That's the reading plan that we use as a church. And we're using that reading plan, simply the New Testament portion on the podcast to look at that chapter. I would encourage you that if you're a Bible reader and a journal that you ⁓ and you're listening to the podcast, that you maybe get that reading plan. ⁓ you get a life journal here from church, or you can ⁓ download it on our website or on the UVersion Bible app. But that you would get that reading plan and read with us and so that we can ⁓ be on this journey together. That being said, today is June, June the 16th, and our reading today it is Colossians chapter two. And I'm gonna read you a couple different verses because it's really a thought that I want to share with you. ⁓ I do think it is a good practice, and I'm gonna give you a little ⁓ secret place tip real quick, okay? Little Bible study tip. It is a good practice ⁓ for our daily reading and journaling to find one verse and to journal on that verse. Again, because for us, the goal of our daily Bible reading reading and journaling, it's not to get smarter, but it's to allow God to speak to us. And so we're not looking to recap the whole reading. We're looking for God, what's the nugget? What what what's the one thing? What's the encouragement that you want to give me? However, Bible interprets Bible. And so much of the Bible, it's it's more fully understood as you understand the rest of the Bible. The Bible interprets the Bible. And a lot of times in ⁓ books of the Bible and chapters that we're reading, there's a theme. And so you can grab multiple verses and tie them together because they really are interconnected. So that's what I want to do today. Colossians chapter two. Wanna read you verse eight, and then I want to read you verse 20. And then want to read you verse 23, and that'll probably be enough for a 10-minute podcast. But here's what it says Paul is writing and he says, Beware. All right, so pay attention. If you're in the gym, you're walking, you're in the car right now, just pay attention. Beware lest anyone cheat you. ⁓ is it just me, or do you hate getting cheated? I hate getting cheated out of something. Hey, that should have been mine. But but I got deceived. I got cheated. I missed out because I didn't read the fine print, if you will. He goes, beware lest anyone cheat you through listen to this philosophy and empty deceit according to the tradition of men. And listen to this, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. Pause real quick. We have to realize that faith and the life of faith, it is a brand new way of living that we have now come into. We haven't ⁓ adopted Jesus as just like an accessory, a breakout session, a part of our life. No, ⁓ when we put our faith in Jesus, faith in Christ and the life of faith, it's a whole new way of living. It's a whole new way of living. And and and the spiritual, the supernatural, those things are real. The spirit world is real. The power of God is real. The promises of God made available to us are real. God's ability to divinely intervene in our life is real. It's real. And if we're not careful, here's what Paul's saying: beware lest people say things like, well, you know, that's just the way life works. That's just the way the world works. Hey, that the that that that's just the way it goes sometimes. That's just the way the cookie crumbles. Well, you know, the doctor's report is that he goes, hold on, hold on, hold on. People who are not in Christ, they don't know and understand, and they haven't come into a life of faith and all that that gives us. So beware lest you get cheated out of all that God has for you because you start listening to people through philosophy and the traditions of this world. Tell you that's just the way it works. No, no, no, no, we're in Christ. We're in Christ. So the basic elementary principles of the world don't apply to us like they do to those who are not in Christ. Now, here's ⁓ verse 20. Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you still still subject yourself to their regulations? Paul goes, Let me ask you a question: if you're really in Christ. Then why have you subjected yourself? Why have you lowered your level of expectation to now live in a way that's just like everybody else? Here's verse 23. These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion and false humility and neglect of the body, but they are no value against the indulgences of the flesh. Here's what I want you to catch. These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom. And here here here's the inside and application that I w I want to give you to say and I want you to see. ⁓ if we're not careful, the world and people in the world can make us feel dumb, can make us feel foolish, can make us feel naive, can make us feel like we're just not being wise or shrewd because the basic elementary principles of this world, well, that's just the way the world works. Well, that's just the way the cookie crumbles. Well, you know, sometimes that's just the way life is. Hey, sometimes when it rains, it pours. Well, you know, the doctor's report is the doctor's report, and that that's just if we're not careful, ⁓ pe people can through words that sound good, and well, you know, we can't, but you know, but so and so said, and you if you really do your research and science says, and well, you know, the way the economy is, and people can make us feel silly and they can talk us into subjecting ourselves. To living like everybody else, to expecting like everybody else. And Paul goes, hey, be careful you don't get cheated. Be careful you don't subject yourself and live lower. Having been cheated out of God's best for you, be careful you don't live lower than you should be living, because you got cheated and deceived by some empty basic principles of this. World. Don't do that. Paul says, Can I ask you, if you've died with Christ, why are you still living according to the basic principles of the world? They're of no value to you. And here's what I want to stir you and encourage you with today. Here's the application. Remember, we're playing by different rules. Come on, church. We're playing by different rules. We serve a supernatural God who has no limits. He's the God of the impossible. He still intervenes in In people's lives. He's still the God that can open doors that no man can shut, and shut doors that that no no man can open. He's still the one who is in control. Daniel 4:17, the Bible says that this degree is by the watchers that all may know that God still rules and reigns in the kingdoms of men. He heals body, he can supernaturally provide. God is still that same God. And when we got saved, we were in Christ, forgiven of our sins, and brought into a life in Christ. Where now all of God's promises, all of God's kingdom, it's been fully and freely made available to us. We're playing by different rules. We don't have to live according to just the way things work. No, we have a supernatural God who is for us. And we have to be careful not to get cheated. through through through vain and empty and and and big swelling grand sound sounding words that people in the world don't cheat us out of what God has. No, we gotta stay in the word. We we gotta stay in the word in God's promises believing and meditating on them saying I'm playing by different rules because I serve a God who is a supernatural God and in Christ I've been brought into his family and given promises and access that I didn't have before but now I have. No, I'm in Christ, and therefore I'm no longer playing by the rules of this world. I pray today that whoever you are and what whatever you're going through, that God would use that to encourage you today. And that something would rise up in you that would say, I'm going start contending for much more than I've been contending for in faith because I'm playing by different rules in Christ. Lord Jesus, today take this word, seal it in our heart, and help us to leave this podcast today full of faith. And and and a conviction and a commitment to say, I want to live and play by the rules that Christ has set for me, which are so much greater than the ones that I had access to before. We thank you for it today. In Jesus' name, amen. I hope today was a blessing to you. We'll see you again tomorrow on another episode of the Daily Word Podcast.
