- 0:03Speaker 1: I'm going to need some help here just to make
- 0:05Speaker 1: sure that we were accurate on this.
- 0:08Speaker 2: I'm told that.
- 0:10Speaker 1: This is the fight song of the University of Washington.
- 0:13Speaker 1: So if it is, then it's apropos and it makes
- 0:16Speaker 1: perfect sense because our next guest, a proud graduate of
- 0:20Speaker 1: UW and former outstanding quarterback and all purpose man for
- 0:25Speaker 1: the Washington Huskies. Then of course, A fabulous NFL career,
- 0:28Speaker 1: a Super Bowl ring, and a member of the Dallas
- 0:30Speaker 1: Cowboys who now works on Cowboys preseason telecasts and Dallas
- 0:34Speaker 1: Cowboys productions all season long. And my partner on the
- 0:38Speaker 1: UIL State High School Football Championships, Isaiah Stanback, joins us now. Isaiah,
- 0:43Speaker 1: did we get that right? Is that the UW fight song?
- 0:47Speaker 3: Yeah, you absolutely got that correct. That is the best
- 0:50Speaker 3: fight song. I know you would argue differently, but that's
- 0:52Speaker 3: my favorite fight song. And the only thing that you
- 0:54Speaker 3: left out was the fact that I'm your bodyguard for
- 0:56Speaker 3: the UIL state championships.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I need that. I need that. So that helps. It's
- 1:01Speaker 2: great to visit with you.
- 1:02Speaker 1: I wanted to talk some Cowboys and some NFL notes
- 1:07Speaker 1: with you because Isaiah also works, and we were watching
- 1:10Speaker 1: you the other day on NFL Network. So I know
- 1:12Speaker 1: you're still that's keeping you busy as well. The first
- 1:17Speaker 1: thing I want to ask you about in hearing what
- 1:19Speaker 1: Brian Schottenheimer's had to say and not just shotty, but
- 1:21Speaker 1: hearing from players and other people is that there is
- 1:25Speaker 1: a if I'm describing it accurately, a different feel about
- 1:29Speaker 1: this team. Is that an accurate way to describe what
- 1:32Speaker 1: you've seen from Cowboys training camp and getting ready for
- 1:36Speaker 1: the final preseason game tomorrow night? against the Saints, which
- 1:38Speaker 1: will be a part of the telecast team along with
- 1:40Speaker 1: Bill Jones.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Is it a different feel? The vibes are definitely different.
- 1:44Speaker 3: And I know that's not a topic that people like
- 1:47Speaker 3: to really touch on because it's not tangible, right?
- 1:50Speaker 2: A feeling is not tangible.
- 1:51Speaker 3: It's not something that you can necessarily always convey or
- 1:54Speaker 3: necessarily kind of take on. But the reality is there's
- 1:58Speaker 3: something different about this team. And I can say that
- 2:01Speaker 3: because I've played for this team. I can say that
- 2:03Speaker 3: because I've covered this team over the last six seasons.
- 2:06Speaker 2: This is different.
- 2:07Speaker 3: And it's different from the sense that the culture and
- 2:10Speaker 3: identity and the ethos of this organization and team that
- 2:14Speaker 3: coach Schottenheimer start to instill last year is now carrying
- 2:18Speaker 3: itself from not only just the offense, but now it's
- 2:21Speaker 3: starting to matriculate his way through the defense and through
- 2:23Speaker 3: the special teams. You've heard a lot about Christian Parker
- 2:26Speaker 3: and what he's able to bring, you know, young 34
- 2:29Speaker 3: year old first time defensive coordinator coming from Philadelphia, you know,
- 2:33Speaker 3: finding his way from the big Fangio tree. This dude,
- 2:36Speaker 3: along with Coach Schottenheimer, is really about that business. He's
- 2:40Speaker 3: about that action. He's about teaching. He's about, you know,
- 2:43Speaker 3: really building up this and developing these players. And you're
- 2:47Speaker 3: really starting to see the productivity and communication and identity
- 2:51Speaker 3: of that offense from last year that was so successful
- 2:54Speaker 3: for Dallas is now starting to carry its way over
- 2:56Speaker 3: to the other two-thirds of the game.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Which is defense and special teams.
- 2:59Speaker 1: So, in other words, to coin a phrase or to
- 3:02Speaker 1: borrow a phrase from from the guy who did such
- 3:05Speaker 1: a great job plying his trade up by playing for
- 3:10Speaker 1: the Seahawks, Marshawn Lynch. In other words, in the case
- 3:13Speaker 1: of Christian Parker, quote, I'm all about that business, boss.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Is that it? That's it, about that action. Yeah, about
- 3:19Speaker 2: that action. And how about the offensive side?
- 3:24Speaker 1: We hear a lot about Clayton Adams, but we know
- 3:26Speaker 1: about Shottie's involvement. How has that dynamic worked for them
- 3:30Speaker 1: from what you've seen so far here in the preseason?
- 3:33Speaker 2: It's been awesome.
- 3:33Speaker 3: And I think the expectation of a lot of fans
- 3:36Speaker 3: is that the Dallas Cowboys are going to be right
- 3:37Speaker 3: back at the top of the NFL in terms of
- 3:39Speaker 3: offensive productivity.
- 3:41Speaker 2: And you would like to think so.
- 3:42Speaker 3: It's not necessarily always the case in this league because
- 3:44Speaker 3: this is a difficult league to double down on. But
- 3:47Speaker 3: when you start talking about being in the same system
- 3:49Speaker 3: for multiple years with the same staff and majority of
- 3:52Speaker 3: the same players and contributors, that's huge. So Dallas not
- 3:55Speaker 3: only is going to be returning majority of their people,
- 3:57Speaker 3: but they're now able to stack upon the confidence that
- 4:00Speaker 3: they had last year.
- 4:01Speaker 2: They're able to evolve the offense.
- 4:03Speaker 3: They're able to build upon things, the nonverbal communication, communication
- 4:06Speaker 3: at the line of scrimmage, the understanding and the chemistry
- 4:09Speaker 3: of the person that you're playing alongside with. All those
- 4:12Speaker 3: things get better whenever you have consistency and continuity, which
- 4:15Speaker 3: is what this offseason has been allowed to be because
- 4:18Speaker 3: of the front office.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Well, one thing I've been impressed with, and maybe this
- 4:22Speaker 1: rolls back to this whole thing about a different vibe, is...
- 4:26Speaker 1: Not only clearly the production, but also what George Pickens
- 4:33Speaker 1: has said and his approach and all of that. And
- 4:37Speaker 1: between him, obviously, you know, anchoring or being the biggest part.
- 4:44Speaker 1: of that receiving core along with CD, that this is
- 4:47Speaker 1: something that everybody has to have a good feeling about
- 4:50Speaker 1: because even though the contract thing had been kind of
- 4:55Speaker 1: hovering over, it doesn't look like it's affected him at all.
- 4:58Speaker 2: No, not at all. And I believe that he's really.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Denouncing a lot of things that people have projected upon him, right?
- 5:07Speaker 3: Coming into the Dallas Cowboys after the trade with Pittsburgh,
- 5:09Speaker 3: a lot of people looked at George Pickens has said, oh,
- 5:12Speaker 3: he's immature, or he's emotionally unintelligent, or hey, he's a
- 5:17Speaker 3: spark play. He can go off at any moment. And
- 5:20Speaker 3: I think that he's really renounced a lot of that.
- 5:22Speaker 3: I think that he has proven to people that he's
- 5:25Speaker 3: one heck of a teammate. I think he's proven that
- 5:27Speaker 3: he's one heck of a consistent contributor on offense. He's
- 5:30Speaker 3: proven that when CD's not even present on the field
- 5:32Speaker 3: because of injury or whatever it might.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Be, he is a true number one receiver.
- 5:37Speaker 3: So he has proven himself The organization just wants to
- 5:40Speaker 3: see it just a little bit longer, right? They just
- 5:42Speaker 3: want to see it again for maybe half a season
- 5:44Speaker 3: before they start having these conversations. But he's proven that
- 5:48Speaker 3: he is the person that was not conveyed in Pittsburgh.
- 5:53Speaker 3: They already had an idea of who they thought he was.
- 5:56Speaker 3: He's not that. He's a leader on his team. He's
- 5:58Speaker 3: the heartbeat of this offense. When you see him step
- 6:01Speaker 3: on the field, whether it be practice or the game,
- 6:03Speaker 3: people come to him.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Everybody revolves around him.
- 6:06Speaker 3: And just something that you would think that only happens
- 6:08Speaker 3: around Dak, not so fast, my friend. He is that guy,
- 6:12Speaker 3: and he really is the glue on offense.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Visiting with Isaiah Stanback here on 1300 The Zone. Two,
- 6:18Speaker 1: because training camps quite often, we know the known commodities
- 6:21Speaker 1: like Dak and the guys that we've talked about. Everybody
- 6:24Speaker 1: kind of zeroes in on the backup. So let me
- 6:26Speaker 1: get your thoughts, your overview on how you see the
- 6:29Speaker 1: backup running back spot and the backup quarterback spot.
- 6:34Speaker 3: First of all, let's start with their backup quarterback spot.
- 6:36Speaker 3: I believe that coming into week two, which was last
- 6:40Speaker 3: week prior to the Arizona Cardinals game, if I were
- 6:42Speaker 3: a coach trying to make a decision on a backup quarterback,
- 6:44Speaker 3: I would have said Sam Howell. And the reason why
- 6:46Speaker 3: I would have said Sam Howell is because Sam Howell
- 6:48Speaker 3: is tried and true. Sam Howell is somebody that we've
- 6:50Speaker 3: seen conduct himself as a starter and lead an organization
- 6:53Speaker 3: in this league, somebody that we've seen in playoffs.
- 6:55Speaker 2: We know who Sam Howell is. His floor is really high.
- 6:59Speaker 3: His ceiling might not be as high, but we know
- 7:01Speaker 3: the consistency we're going to get out of him. Joe
- 7:04Speaker 3: Milton going into the Cardinals game is somebody that we've
- 7:06Speaker 3: seen flashes of.
- 7:07Speaker 2: You know, his floor is relatively low because, you know,
- 7:10Speaker 2: he makes some mistakes.
- 7:11Speaker 3: He's inconsistent. But, boy, is his ceiling high, right? He
- 7:15Speaker 3: has throw the ball 85 yards. He can outrun anybody
- 7:17Speaker 3: that's chasing him.
- 7:18Speaker 2: He's athletic.
- 7:20Speaker 3: What have we seen over the past few weeks in
- 7:22Speaker 3: training camp? Joe Milton is starting to show that consistency factor.
- 7:26Speaker 3: So what do we always say? And when you talk
- 7:28Speaker 3: about youth sports, when you have athleticism and you have
- 7:31Speaker 3: ability and you pair that up with consistency and reliability,
- 7:34Speaker 3: all of a sudden that person's untouchable. And that's exactly
- 7:37Speaker 3: what Joe Milton is becoming for the Dallas Cowboys. He's
- 7:40Speaker 3: becoming somebody who's comfortable in this offense. He's becoming somebody
- 7:43Speaker 3: who's dependable and reliable in this offense. He's gaining the
- 7:46Speaker 3: confidence of his teammates and and getting the confidence of
- 7:49Speaker 3: his coaches. And when you pair that up and you
- 7:51Speaker 3: can stack good days along with his athletic abilities, it's
- 7:54Speaker 3: going to be very difficult for him to not become
- 7:57Speaker 3: the QB2 in this offense. And when you start talking
- 7:59Speaker 3: about the backup running back position, it's Malik Davis. How
- 8:03Speaker 3: can you not say it's Malik Davis? What can he
- 8:06Speaker 3: do To prove anything more to you, the fact that
- 8:09Speaker 3: he is the guy that's going to protect your quarterback,
- 8:12Speaker 3: he's going to run downhill, he's going to fall forward,
- 8:14Speaker 3: he's going to protect the ball, and he's always going
- 8:15Speaker 3: to move the chains.
- 8:16Speaker 2: He's reliable, he's dependable, he's your RB2.
- 8:19Speaker 3: The real question is, do they go ahead and carry
- 8:22Speaker 3: a true RB3, or are they going to feel comfortable
- 8:25Speaker 3: and confident simply just staying with Hunter Lipke as their
- 8:27Speaker 3: fullback slash RB3?
- 8:29Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Is it your thought that this final preseason game with
- 8:33Speaker 1: the Saints will... if it hasn't already been solidified, definitely
- 8:38Speaker 1: lock that in with Malik Davis, with Joe Milton, that
- 8:42Speaker 1: they're still looking for things or looking at things going
- 8:45Speaker 1: into this game with New Orleans?
- 8:47Speaker 2: I believe that they are.
- 8:47Speaker 3: I believe, especially at the quarterback position, if Joe Milton
- 8:50Speaker 3: goes out and builds upon what he's done these first
- 8:53Speaker 3: two weeks in the preseason, it's his job. I have
- 8:55Speaker 3: no doubts about it. I believe that First of all,
- 8:59Speaker 3: shout out to Coach Schottenheimer. I know a lot of
- 9:00Speaker 3: people are looking at it and saying, well, they brought
- 9:02Speaker 3: in Sam Howell to be the QB too. Maybe they did,
- 9:05Speaker 3: or maybe they understood who their quarterback was in Joe
- 9:09Speaker 3: Milton and knew that, hey, this man is competitive and
- 9:12Speaker 3: he needs somebody to push him and challenge him for
- 9:14Speaker 3: that role, for him to step into the role that
- 9:16Speaker 3: we want him to be.
- 9:17Speaker 2: There's a teaching element.
- 9:19Speaker 3: There's an understanding and a development element from this coaching
- 9:21Speaker 3: staff and a point of emphasis. Maybe they just understood
- 9:24Speaker 3: him that much. They knew that this was going to
- 9:26Speaker 3: be the trigger that pushed him over the edge. Either way,
- 9:28Speaker 3: I think if Joe Milton comes into this third game
- 9:31Speaker 3: against the Saints and does what he's been doing, it's
- 9:33Speaker 3: his job. And then as far as the running back room,
- 9:37Speaker 3: there's so many really good running backs on this roster. Unfortunately,
- 9:40Speaker 3: some of these guys are going to hit the waiver wire,
- 9:42Speaker 3: and I highly doubt that.
- 9:43Speaker 1: A handful of them are coming back. Yeah, and I
- 9:45Speaker 1: guess that includes the Longhorn Jayden Blue. Although, I know
- 9:48Speaker 1: from watching the telecast, the preseason game with the Cardinals,
- 9:50Speaker 1: you like that little hurdle, that little leap he.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Did last week. Yeah, the blues clues.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Listen, he is talented and he understands that last year
- 9:59Speaker 3: was a wasted opportunity for him. He had an opportunity
- 10:01Speaker 3: last year to solidify himself as somebody who's reliable, dependable,
- 10:05Speaker 3: but he understands that he was emotionally unavailable. He was
- 10:07Speaker 3: mentally unavailable last year. He's admitted that and kudos to
- 10:10Speaker 3: him for acknowledging that the preseason presents opportunities and he
- 10:15Speaker 3: has shown you that he's capable, but is the runway
- 10:19Speaker 3: long enough for him to.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Show you that he's consistent enough?
- 10:22Speaker 3: And that's the reality of the preseason, especially when you
- 10:24Speaker 3: cut it down to three games. There's guys that are
- 10:26Speaker 3: very talented, guys that are very capable, but they don't
- 10:29Speaker 3: have a long enough runway to prove to these coaches
- 10:31Speaker 3: that that's something that's dependable throughout a whole season.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Is Camden Smith going to make the team? Which one?
- 10:38Speaker 2: Did I say his name wrong? Camden Brown. Camden Brown? Brown, yes.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Camden Brown. I said Smith.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Camden Brown. Yeah, that wide receiver five position. And I
- 10:47Speaker 3: say wide receiver five because of CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens,
- 10:49Speaker 3: Ryan Flanoy, Kevontae Turpin. Those four are definitely on the roster, obviously.
- 10:54Speaker 3: The number five position is really between Camden Brown, who's
- 10:58Speaker 3: stepping into this role and balling out in training camp
- 11:00Speaker 3: with every single quarterback. Oftentimes we see these guys come
- 11:04Speaker 3: in and have the relationship with the wrong quarterback that's
- 11:06Speaker 3: not throwing them the ball in the preseason. So we've
- 11:08Speaker 3: seen guys in the past that have had great relationships
- 11:10Speaker 3: with Dak, but Dak's not throwing you the ball in
- 11:12Speaker 3: the preseason. The backup quarterbacks are, and if you don't
- 11:14Speaker 3: get those opportunities, you can't show the world what everybody's
- 11:17Speaker 3: been seeing in training camp. But Camden Brown has built
- 11:19Speaker 3: a relationship and a trust with every single quarterback on
- 11:22Speaker 3: this roster, and you've seen it show up in the games. Now,
- 11:25Speaker 3: Jonathan Mingo finally gave you a glimpse of why they
- 11:28Speaker 3: traded a fourth round pick for him.
- 11:30Speaker 2: You finally saw.
- 11:31Speaker 3: A little bit of a highlight as, oh, there's that
- 11:33Speaker 3: guy right there. He's somebody that's trusted and reliable in
- 11:37Speaker 3: the special team sector. But now you're starting to see
- 11:39Speaker 3: why they believed in him in terms of the receiver position.
- 11:42Speaker 3: But again, I go back to the runway. Is this
- 11:45Speaker 3: runway long enough? And is the upside long enough to
- 11:49Speaker 3: justify keeping one, if not both of these guys? But
- 11:53Speaker 3: there's going to be one battle that you have to
- 11:54Speaker 3: watch this last game that I really think is going
- 11:56Speaker 3: to come down to who's able to be most productive.
- 11:59Speaker 2: We talked about Christian Parker.
- 12:00Speaker 1: With regard to the defense, we've seen some young guys
- 12:02Speaker 1: really kind of show out early on. Who has really
- 12:06Speaker 1: impressed you most on the defensive side in camp?
- 12:09Speaker 2: You know what? L.T.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Overton at an interior defense alignment out of Alabama. LT's
- 12:14Speaker 3: done one heck of a job. You talk about somebody
- 12:16Speaker 3: who I would consider to be somewhat undersized at this
- 12:18Speaker 3: point in his career, Ricky career, but he's been impactful.
- 12:22Speaker 2: He stepped up in a major way.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Somebody that's been consistent for me over the last two
- 12:26Speaker 3: years has been Shamar James. He's somebody that always shows up.
- 12:30Speaker 3: I think he's a really dependable, you know, high ceiling,
- 12:34Speaker 3: young talent. And then the fella out of Michigan last week,
- 12:39Speaker 3: First time having an opportunity to see him in live
- 12:41Speaker 3: action game in the NFL as he was out the
- 12:43Speaker 3: first preseason game.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Barham.
- 12:47Speaker 3: And I think Jay Sean Barham out of Michigan, number 55,
- 12:50Speaker 3: inside slash outside linebacker, is a dude.
- 12:53Speaker 2: And he is somebody, as we.
- 12:55Speaker 3: Were mentioning at the beginning of this segment here, he's
- 12:58Speaker 3: about that action, boss. He wants to run through your face.
- 13:01Speaker 3: He brings the intensity. He brings the physicality, not only
- 13:04Speaker 3: for himself, But it's such a presence that everybody around
- 13:09Speaker 3: him is going to have to get with the program.
- 13:11Speaker 3: So he's going to rub off on everybody, veteran or rookie.
- 13:14Speaker 3: I like the fact that he's on his roster, and
- 13:16Speaker 3: I like what he did last week.
- 13:17Speaker 1: And by design, we have only seen just a snippet
- 13:21Speaker 1: of Caleb Downs, but he looked impressive early on before
- 13:24Speaker 1: they put him in bubble wrap for the rest of
- 13:26Speaker 1: the season, right?
- 13:27Speaker 3: Listen, Caleb Downs, I can't talk about what he's done
- 13:30Speaker 3: in the preseason because he only had six snaps. But
- 13:32Speaker 3: I can tell you about what I saw at training camp.
- 13:34Speaker 3: And this dude is, he's everything as advertised.
- 13:37Speaker 2: He's smart.
- 13:38Speaker 3: He's emotionally intelligent. He's a student of the game. He's
- 13:42Speaker 3: a student that wants to learn from everybody. He's humble
- 13:45Speaker 3: enough to ask the questions to the players and ask
- 13:48Speaker 3: questions to the coaches. He spends 30 to 40 minutes
- 13:50Speaker 3: after practice working with people, working on his game. You
- 13:53Speaker 3: hear the interviews about him sitting in there with the
- 13:55Speaker 3: meeting rooms late night working with Coach Christian Parker. He
- 13:59Speaker 3: is a player form of Christian Parker, and he's going
- 14:02Speaker 3: to be such a Swiss Army knife for this defense.
- 14:04Speaker 3: He can run and hit. He can get turnovers. He
- 14:07Speaker 3: can guard you in the slot. He can play safety.
- 14:09Speaker 3: He checks a lot of boxes. He's going to provide
- 14:11Speaker 3: a lot of versatility for his defense. I say stand
- 14:13Speaker 3: back with us for a few more minutes. What are
- 14:15Speaker 3: you looking for out of this final preseason game? You'll
- 14:17Speaker 3: be working the telecast with Bill Jones tomorrow night. What
- 14:20Speaker 3: are you looking for other than maybe an extension to
- 14:24Speaker 3: the half-million-dollar fine because of the training camp dust-up with
- 14:27Speaker 3: the Saints and Cowboys? I imagine they'll mind their P's
- 14:29Speaker 3: and Q's and behave, but what else are you looking
- 14:32Speaker 3: for out of this preseason finale? As long as Jerry
- 14:35Speaker 3: Jones doesn't try to find me, I think we're perfectly fine.
- 14:40Speaker 3: This last game, I'm truly looking at, I'm paying a
- 14:43Speaker 3: lot of attention to that wide receiver five battle. I'm
- 14:45Speaker 3: also paying a lot of attention, and it's not a
- 14:48Speaker 3: conversation that's being had right now, but it's a concern
- 14:50Speaker 3: of mine at two positions.
- 14:52Speaker 2: The backup tackle position, right?
- 14:54Speaker 3: Right now, you're looking at Nate Thomas and Drew Shelton,
- 14:58Speaker 3: who are both you're considering your possible swing tackles. Drew
- 15:02Speaker 3: Shelton had played left tackle in college for the first
- 15:05Speaker 3: part of training camp in the first preseason game. He
- 15:07Speaker 3: was playing right tackle. They moved him over to the
- 15:08Speaker 3: left side, and they moved Nate Thomas over to the
- 15:10Speaker 3: right side. So both of these guys are getting work.
- 15:12Speaker 3: I'm also concerned about the cornerback position, the cornerback room,
- 15:17Speaker 3: the starting cornerbacks that you have on this team right now. Obviously,
- 15:20Speaker 3: Kobe Durant, you're able to bring in. Deron Bland, you have.
- 15:23Speaker 3: Savon Revel, you have in. Savon Revel is coming off
- 15:25Speaker 3: a knee. Deron Bland has a history of a foot.
- 15:28Speaker 3: If either one of those guys go down, who's the
- 15:30Speaker 3: next man that you feel comfortable with? Is it Kalen
- 15:33Speaker 3: Carson that you feel comfortable with? You know, like, like
- 15:36Speaker 3: ready stewards of safety slash nickel.
- 15:38Speaker 2: I like him.
- 15:38Speaker 3: I think he'll be on his team, but who do
- 15:40Speaker 3: you have speed? You know, Chiquese bridges. There's not a
- 15:44Speaker 3: lot of depth there. Devin Moore, you drafted obviously out
- 15:46Speaker 3: of Florida. He didn't have a good showing last week.
- 15:49Speaker 3: First preseason game. He was out second preseason game. He
- 15:51Speaker 3: kind of got to see it out a little bit.
- 15:53Speaker 2: He has a lot to learn. Who is your DB
- 15:56Speaker 2: three or four?
- 15:57Speaker 3: Depth on your roster and can they contribute at the
- 16:00Speaker 3: level of the competition that you're going to be facing
- 16:01Speaker 3: when the regular season presents itself.
- 16:03Speaker 1: I i would i would counsel people to if if
- 16:07Speaker 1: you kind of have a jaundiced view of watching preseason
- 16:10Speaker 1: games watch the cowboys because isaiah stand back will make
- 16:14Speaker 1: it entertaining if nothing else if i'm remembering correctly last
- 16:17Speaker 1: saturday against here You sang the theme from Blue's Clues.
- 16:21Speaker 2: You did that. Did you sing another theme song during
- 16:23Speaker 2: the game? You did that.
- 16:25Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure of it. I think I hit you
- 16:26Speaker 3: with a Looney Tunes, you know, Roadrunner. I think I
- 16:30Speaker 3: hit you with Blue's Clues. I've done Aventura in there.
- 16:34Speaker 3: I'm going to keep you guessing. You had various and
- 16:37Speaker 3: sundry bodily aspects. in terms of emotions coming out.
- 16:44Speaker 1: It kind of sounded like a more ramped up version
- 16:47Speaker 1: of Tony Romo when he's doing, ooh, and ah.
- 16:51Speaker 2: I mean, I know you from working with you. Those
- 16:53Speaker 2: are natural. That's organic for you, isn't it?
- 16:56Speaker 3: Yeah, very much so, man. And big, you know, shout
- 16:58Speaker 3: out to the late, you know, John Madden. You know,
- 17:01Speaker 3: he's the person out of anybody and everybody I've ever
- 17:03Speaker 3: seen on a broadcast that was able to blend true analysts, detailed,
- 17:08Speaker 3: high level stuff, bring it down to the common level.
- 17:10Speaker 3: and make it digestible for the fans, but also the
- 17:13Speaker 3: entertainment factor and showing emotionally that he's having fun watching
- 17:17Speaker 3: this game alongside the fans. So I try to embody
- 17:20Speaker 3: my version of that, but he's the one that made
- 17:22Speaker 3: me feel comfortable being my true self.
- 17:23Speaker 1: All right. Are you still the father of multi-sport high-level
- 17:28Speaker 1: athlete kids?
- 17:30Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 17:30Speaker 3: I got three minions, two that are in seventh grade,
- 17:33Speaker 3: one that just entered high school.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Now, the one that entered high school, was that the
- 17:37Speaker 1: basketball slash soccer slash wrestler?
- 17:39Speaker 2: Is that how that works?
- 17:41Speaker 3: She played, I believe, six or seven sports in middle school,
- 17:44Speaker 3: and now she has to cut it down to three
- 17:45Speaker 3: sports in high school.
- 17:46Speaker 2: So she's only doing three. Okay.
- 17:49Speaker 1: All right. Listen, I appreciate you doing this, and I
- 17:53Speaker 1: look forward to seeing you and working with you on
- 17:54Speaker 1: the state championship.
- 17:55Speaker 2: By the way, I saw your name mentioned. Now, I
- 17:57Speaker 2: may be speaking out of turn. I don't even know.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Are you part of, at least on the backup side
- 18:02Speaker 1: or fill-in side or whatever, part of the Pac-12 network, too?
- 18:06Speaker 3: So I'm working with, I signed a contract with CW
- 18:08Speaker 3: Sports this year. I'm their flex color commentator, and I'm
- 18:11Speaker 3: going to be working both Mountain West Conference and Pac-12
- 18:15Speaker 3: this year.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Wow.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Okay.
- 18:17Speaker 2: All right.
- 18:17Speaker 1: You might see the group right down the road from us.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Texas State in a game this year in the Pac-12.
- 18:20Speaker 1: You never know. Isaiah, I appreciate it, man. Thanks so much,
- 18:25Speaker 1: and have a great season, and obviously you and I
- 18:27Speaker 1: will be in touch during the course of the season.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Absolutely. Thanks for having me, Greg. Appreciate it. That's Isaiah Stanback.
- 18:32Speaker 1: You can watch him tomorrow night in the Cowboys preseason
- 18:36Speaker 1: finale against the New Orleans Saints. You'll see him on
- 18:40Speaker 1: other Cowboys programs. Like I said, he and I worked
- 18:42Speaker 1: together on the state championship games and on the Pac-12.
- 18:44Speaker 1: You'll see him in Mountain West. So he's a man
- 18:48Speaker 1: of many talents and destinations. All right, we have more
- 18:50Speaker 1: coming up here on this Thursday afternoon on Sports Radio
- 18:53Speaker 1: AM 13 Under the Zone and the iHeartRadio app.
