- 0:00Eric: This podcast was created by fans or fans and is not affiliated with or sponsored by Hallmark or the Hallmark channel.
- 0:09Eric: This is Eric, this is Sidney, and this is Hallmark.
- 0:20Eric: And this is, and more Well, you're becoming quite the common face with the well, I guess, the voice with the podcast.
- 0:34Eric: And hello, andrea, how are you doing I?
- 0:37Andrea: am doing all right now.
- 0:40Eric: So you set me up a little bit because you said you think we're going to be a little bit in a disagreement over this one, which I just find I don't understand, how, with all of our movies, we essentially always agree and yet whenever you come on to to be a guest, we seem to disagree.
- 0:59Andrea: I know every time I'm like I don't get it.
- 1:00Andrea: I feel, like you're setting me up.
- 1:02Andrea: You're like picking all the ones where I have like a take that is not common with everyone else, just the complete opposite.
- 1:10Eric: Yes, so.
- 1:11Eric: But so today we are going to be talking about the curious cater dying for chocolate, because we have the curious catering New movie, the third one coming out next month.
- 1:23Eric: So we figured we should talk about a little bit of the history that got us to that one.
- 1:26Eric: So now, when you first this first came out, did you see it like right away?
- 1:32Eric: Oh, of course you did, because you always do your review.
- 1:35Eric: So you saw that weekend.
- 1:37Eric: Yeah, okay, now have you seen it since Otherwise you probably just watched it to get ready for tonight.
- 1:48Andrea: Ironically, when you asked me if I could review this with you, it literally was airing an hour later on the homework so I was like, well, I guess I will just watch this.
- 1:59Andrea: So I think I missed a little bit, because I had to.
- 2:01Andrea: I watched almost all of it and then I watched the rest of it, I think the last 45 minutes on the Hallmark Now app.
- 2:08Eric: And I was like you missed a little bit of it and a little bit of it's 45 minutes, when the entire thing is like well, so this is where.
- 2:15Andrea: I missed a chunk and I liked this part too.
- 2:18Andrea: So when we talk about, I'm like I missed the chunk, with her going on a date with oh, what's the actor's name?
- 2:25Eric: Antonio Cayenne.
- 2:28Andrea: Yes.
- 2:29Andrea: And then I missed that when they went on the date, I missed that chunk of the movie.
- 2:34Andrea: I realized because obviously, if anyone has the Hallmark Now app, you'll see the movies on Hallmark are two hours but in actuality, you know, it's more like an hour and 20 hour.
- 2:45Andrea: Yeah so I think it's about an hour and 20.
- 2:47Andrea: So I fast forwarded it too far and then I missed some of it.
- 2:51Andrea: But then I at that time I was like I only have time to watch this and I know what happens.
- 2:56Andrea: I remembered so.
- 2:57Eric: Okay, all right.
- 2:59Eric: Well, why don't we get into it then and say, when you tell me a little bit about what you did like other than the Brad State?
- 3:10Andrea: I actually quite a bit that I liked when it first came out.
- 3:13Andrea: I went back and looked at my review and I gave it five out of five chocolate bars and I was really, I think at that time this is one of our first new mysteries that we've had.
- 3:24Andrea: I think at the time it aired in quite some time because I think it came out even before the Hannah Swanson Next one came out, or right around that time, and so I was just excited for a mystery and so I gave it five out of five and that was kind of the first Well, this was the first rewatch for me and so that was kind of from new eyes because we've had some new mysteries since it aired just to kind of see, did it?
- 3:48Andrea: Did it hold up, which we'll talk about.
- 3:50Andrea: The other thing I liked I actually really and I saw you just made a post on this on your Instagram the other day I really enjoyed the ex husband.
- 3:59Eric: He's actually one of my favorites in the series.
- 4:01Andrea: Ironically and I saw that the book it's completely not that personality.
- 4:05Eric: Now question when you say you like him, is it because Lachlan Monroe is the actor?
- 4:11Eric: Is it because you like him and because he's in what like 788 Hallmark movies?
- 4:17Eric: So he's, I think, been in every single mystery series at least once that have multiple episodes, obviously.
- 4:27Eric: But now, is it you liked his character or you just like him?
- 4:31Eric: So you liked the character.
- 4:35Andrea: He's probably a combo of both.
- 4:35Andrea: Like I like him as an actor, but then I also I like I mean I found him be like sometimes they play the exes and you're like we're not supposed to like them, but he was played as a likeable guy and so I kind of like, I liked his personality and I really enjoyed their interactions together, him and Goldie, and so that's something that I saw in both movies, because obviously the second movie he was in it quite a bit as well.
- 4:58Andrea: So I'm just going to curious to see how that kind of keeps playing out.
- 5:02Andrea: Is he going to have this big of a role?
- 5:03Andrea: Because he does have this somewhat big role for, you know, being a supporting cast member, because sometimes they'll play this, you know, the ex spouse, and they're just maybe a quick scene, but he's been in quite a few scenes with them.
- 5:15Andrea: So I'm hoping that that carries out to this third movie.
- 5:20Eric: I'll just touch on quickly.
- 5:22Eric: The post was about how in the books he is just a god awful, horrible, abusive, physically and psychologically human being and there's like yes, you're right, in here they're not like I would say he's got body buddy exes who go out and get coffee together, but they're, they're definitely amicable, Whereas in the book it is not.
- 5:52Eric: In fact he he tries killing her in grilling season.
- 5:57Eric: He's like I think it's her to the hospital.
- 6:00Eric: He like breaks her I think it's her thumbs or thumb can ever straighten.
- 6:04Eric: It's like hardcore abuse in the book.
- 6:08Eric: So the book is definitely not hallmark friendly and it's what is.
- 6:15Eric: This is like Richard.
- 6:19Eric: I forget what his middle name or no it's.
- 6:21Eric: His initials are like KRQ or KRJRQs.
- 6:28Eric: It's John Richard Corman and so she calls him Jerk J-R-K but he goes just by Richard Corman in this series.
- 6:40Eric: But yeah, that's the thing it is.
- 6:41Eric: The character is so different in the book and that's why it's funny, Cause yeah, I think in he's.
- 6:48Eric: You know, he's definitely not just.
- 6:51Eric: You know, I don't dislike him, but it is just funny how he's so different.
- 6:56Eric: But Hallmark could never have, obviously, somebody who is beating their wife so bad that they sent him to the hospital in one of their movies.
- 7:03Eric: That's like a lifetime, I guess.
- 7:05Andrea: So I don't want to watch that.
- 7:06Andrea: No.
- 7:07Eric: Yeah, we escape.
- 7:08Eric: We like happiness, even if it's a little bit.
- 7:10Eric: You know there's a mystery with the murder.
- 7:11Eric: We still like it to be a happy murder, right, exactly, okay, so you like Richard Corman slash Lachlan Monroe.
- 7:16Eric: What else you got going?
- 7:19Andrea: I'm neutral about Mason, who seems very incompetent to do his job.
- 7:24Andrea: I feel like I did not like him.
- 7:27Andrea: Maybe it was a second movie there was one of, and I didn't mind him this time, so I'm assuming it must have been the second, and I feel like I mean either it's played for laughs, but maybe make him a little bit more competent.
- 7:39Andrea: So I'm neutral.
- 7:40Andrea: I don't.
- 7:41Andrea: I know a lot of people that he is a strong presence of.
- 7:44Andrea: Like I'm not a big fan of him or he doesn't seem very believable, but I agree.
- 7:49Eric: In this one he was okay, it's just, you know, he's a new to it, so he's finding his feet.
- 7:54Eric: The second one growing season, yeah, his incompetent like.
- 7:58Eric: There were a couple things when it was funny, but then it just went overboard into pure incompetence, where you're like come on full, so yeah.
- 8:08Eric: I agree with you.
- 8:10Andrea: I thought the food looked really good.
- 8:12Eric: When I was watching this the caterer.
- 8:14Andrea: I know I'm like.
- 8:15Andrea: This looks great.
- 8:16Eric: I'd hope so.
- 8:17Andrea: And I really liked how they filmed in the beginning the running scene through the woods, and then that, you know, played out obviously at the end the running scene, again through the woods, which I thought that was a really cool direction or the way that they kind of shot that, so you can kind of see, oh, this is where we're going.
- 8:33Andrea: And I've seen it in a few other movies I don't remember which ones they are at the top of my head Mystery 101s.
- 8:39Andrea: Was it.
- 8:40Eric: Well, it's kind of.
- 8:41Eric: They do that and I think a lot of the Mystery 101s.
- 8:44Eric: I have not rewatched those, so again I mean.
- 8:46Andrea: that's not my favorite, so I haven't rewatched that series.
- 8:48Andrea: Maybe not the running but like one of the things we like fixer upper.
- 8:54Eric: They sort of do that in the dark.
- 8:55Eric: I like that.
- 8:57Andrea: I like that trope.
- 8:59Eric: Yeah.
- 9:00Andrea: So those are my kind of big ones that I enjoyed about this movie.
- 9:03Eric: Well, you said you like Brad State.
- 9:05Eric: So why did you like Brad State?
- 9:06Eric: Though, as you take a big drink of your set, some tea.
- 9:12Andrea: No, it's my Chateaubaree milk tonic.
- 9:15Eric: Oh, okay.
- 9:16Andrea: It's an Arie Vedic.
- 9:17Eric: It's an Arie Vedic.
- 9:18Eric: You should be having a hot chocolate and to get ready for the dying for chocolate.
- 9:24Andrea: I had a little piece of chocolate before we aired, so there I had my chocolate.
- 9:27Eric: So you got, you got my chocolate.
- 9:30Andrea: What did you ask about Brad?
- 9:32Eric: Oh, you said earlier that you liked one of your scenes you liked was the date with Brad.
- 9:38Andrea: Yeah, I enjoyed that.
- 9:40Andrea: I thought that was kind of fun, I think with Andrew and Nikki.
- 9:43Andrea: I thought that was kind of a fun little scene I think for them, just kind of in general that sticks out to me, having again not watched it since it aired and just kind of having that quick end of the date when I turned it on I'm like, oh, that was a fun scene I remember.
- 10:01Eric: Okay, so it wasn't really necessarily Brad.
- 10:03Eric: It was just how they were having this like secret thing of like.
- 10:06Eric: Oh, hang on, I gotta tell you the secret of what he just told me he's engaged.
- 10:10Eric: Yeah, so the shenanigan-ness of the date.
- 10:15Andrea: Yes, more so that.
- 10:16Eric: I can see that.
- 10:17Eric: Now, what did you think of Brad as a logical, appropriate suitor for Goldie for her first date in 12 years?
- 10:32Andrea: I mean probably.
- 10:34Andrea: Well, the first scene that he came in and she kind of avoided having him ask her to go on a date.
- 10:42Andrea: I mean the writing's kind of on the wall it's if you were really interested, you wouldn't probably do that even though you haven't been on a date, and that could be a thing.
- 10:50Andrea: But if you're really interested in someone, I feel like you're gonna give them, you're gonna throw them a bone, you're not gonna play Koi.
- 10:56Eric: Okay.
- 10:57Andrea: I may be a little and keep playing Koi.
- 10:59Eric: I may be a little shallow.
- 11:00Andrea: You don't like that.
- 11:01Eric: No, I'm just, oh geez, he's not in Nicky's league, so, but I guess she hasn't been in a date in 12 years.
- 11:08Eric: So she's gotta start with a practice date and with some guy who you know she knows isn't gonna go anywhere.
- 11:15Eric: She doesn't wanna start with, like you know, hade Tom Schultz.
- 11:18Eric: She needs to start with kind of averagey Brad.
- 11:25Andrea: So You're always the worst, Eric.
- 11:29Eric: She's rather attractive and he's maybe not.
- 11:35Andrea: So I never comment on people's appearances, that's not my jam.
- 11:39Andrea: So I know, I know you love your book Burns.
- 11:45Eric: I don't know, it's just there.
- 11:47Eric: So, okay, all right.
- 11:49Eric: So I'm gonna get into what I liked.
- 11:50Eric: I liked that and I know we have obviously probably a little stronger to her disagreement on the second episode, but I liked that.
- 12:01Eric: I thought it did a pretty good job of laying groundwork for what's to come.
- 12:06Eric: And some people, you know, complained when I read some reviews, like they thought it was too slow.
- 12:12Eric: You know things like that.
- 12:14Eric: But I thought what it did was it did a fairly good job of just sort of establishing the characters and establishing, you know, where they're gonna go.
- 12:23Eric: I thought that the you know it's very clear that Nikki and Andrew are very comfortable with each other acting and so I thought they just really blended well together.
- 12:37Eric: One of the things I liked how Marla came in, which she was one of my she's one of my favorite supporting characters of all the ministers.
- 12:50Eric: I think she's this hilarious and but I thought, like Nikki and her just had a really good rapport going.
- 12:58Eric: One of the things and this will be jumping forward to the second one is she's the florist in this one, yet in the second one she's like the sidekick caterer, so I don't know what happened to her.
- 13:09Eric: Like her floral business go out of.
- 13:10Eric: You know, go out of business or something like that.
- 13:12Eric: She didn't make it.
- 13:13Eric: Maybe Abby from Flower Shop Mysteries moved in down the street and put her out of business from Bloom, I don't know.
- 13:21Eric: But until so I really liked the groundwork and the chemistry between Andrew and Nikki.
- 13:27Eric: Another thing I liked Kendall Cross.
- 13:29Eric: We were talking about how Lachlan and Rose and you know pretty much every mystery Kendall Cross, I think, is also the female equivalent who's in everyone.
- 13:38Eric: And you know, I just can't get enough of her.
- 13:41Eric: She's just great.
- 13:42Eric: Sometimes she plays the you know the good person, the bad person, somewhere in between, and I just I kind of liked her.
- 13:51Eric: She just pulled off that like sort of snobby, bitchy person.
- 13:55Eric: You know who you just you kind of like it's got to be her but it can't be her because it's too obvious.
- 14:02Eric: But you just whatever.
- 14:04Eric: I just thought she did a fantastic job and she gives some of the looks she gives her husband are just great.
- 14:11Eric: So I thought she was fantastic.
- 14:14Eric: In fact I had a post she was in another mystery that I was just randomly watching on Hallmark, that she was in as well, and I almost posted it and I got sidetracked.
- 14:26Eric: But it was like we need more Kendall Cross and things.
- 14:28Eric: And then, lo and behold, I watched dying for chocolate and there she is wonderful as usual.
- 14:33Eric: As I said, marla, I think Marla is just fantastic, she's great, cracks me up.
- 14:39Eric: I love how.
- 14:41Eric: And it plays out a little more in the second one too.
- 14:43Eric: But with Mason she's just like plays him or when there's the flat tire, or she pretends she's got the flat tire when they're breaking into the house and then she sits there and gets the guy to change her tire and keeps distracting him and she ends up singing for him to keep him distracted.
- 15:01Eric: So she just cracks me up.
- 15:04Eric: And then Nikki Delosh is just, I realize, a really good actor.
- 15:10Eric: She just is talented and she I don't wanna say necessarily she carries it, but she's just fantastic in this, as far as just I would not just look at the acting of it, regardless of the mystery, regardless of the story, regardless of everything else Her like little, just the subtle things she does, I think she just really brings it.
- 15:33Eric: So once again and it's funny because I'm not even necessarily like, I don't dislike her, but she's not on my Mount Rushmore favorite.
- 15:43Eric: You know actors, you know actors or anything.
- 15:46Eric: So I just think she's extremely talented.
- 15:49Eric: So, all right, let's get to the other side then.
- 15:54Eric: What are some things maybe you didn't love.
- 15:59Andrea: It was funny the things that you loved.
- 16:03Andrea: I had the opposite take, so I did think it was a little slow.
- 16:07Andrea: So, compared to some of the mysteries, like I feel like they move a little bit more and this one had a lot of I'm always I don't know how to say critical of the B-roll film, because I think sometimes it's done well, but a lot of the times on Hallmark sometimes it's done as a filler.
- 16:22Andrea: It feels like Like they could have moved the story along a little bit more, had some dialogue or more interaction, and so, again, like I said, the food looked good but we saw a lot of food, B-roll of the food and lots of pictures of that where we could have maybe had a little bit longer.
- 16:38Andrea: Again, as we said, it's an hour and 20 minutes.
- 16:40Andrea: Like we could have made a little bit more snappy poppy than all of the food images.
- 16:45Andrea: This is what is kind of funny to me.
- 16:49Andrea: So I know you were talking to us.
- 16:51Eric: Are you gonna say how Kendall Cross is like your least favorite actor in the entire planet?
- 16:55Andrea: Okay, Every time I see her I have to look her up because I always think it's Bevan from One Tree Hill for all the One Tree Hill fans.
- 17:01Andrea: Every time I'm like, is that Bevan?
- 17:03Andrea: It is not, and every time I look that up.
- 17:06Andrea: So no, I really enjoy her and I keep confusing her for Bevan from One Tree Hill, but one of the things that I think is funny.
- 17:14Andrea: So to me and I know you don't like Lori Loughlin's character in Garage Soil Mystery you always say that she seems like a busy body and in her everyone's business.
- 17:22Eric: No, I say she's white privilege.
- 17:24Andrea: I feel like Goldie is the same, though.
- 17:26Andrea: I mean she's also.
- 17:27Andrea: She's a caterer, she's a busy body.
- 17:29Andrea: She's doing too much to solve this crime of her friend.
- 17:32Andrea: And then the next mystery it's not like it.
- 17:34Andrea: I mean it's not like it's any.
- 17:35Andrea: It's her ex-husband that's potentially a spoiler is the one that she's investigating.
- 17:42Andrea: Did he do it?
- 17:43Andrea: I just feel like it's kind of the same.
- 17:47Andrea: So that, to me, is kind of interesting.
- 17:49Andrea: And then the chemistry between Goldie and Tom.
- 17:58Eric: I would define chemistry for you?
- 18:00Eric: Is it like romantic when we get to the steam eater chemistry you're talking, or are you just talking about friend chemistry, so you don't even think they have that?
- 18:09Andrea: I think they have friend chemistry.
- 18:10Andrea: It's very much like to me as other people have said to me as well in the DMs.
- 18:15Andrea: It's more of a sibling feeling to it and I do agree.
- 18:19Andrea: It does seem like, cause I have three younger brothers and it feels very much like she's the big sister and kind of bringing him along, and it's very much how I am with my brothers.
- 18:30Andrea: It's just that I don't get the romantic, even when she fell into his arms in that second movie there was no for me.
- 18:36Eric: There was no romance there.
- 18:37Andrea: It was just like, hey, I caught you so you didn't fall on the ground.
- 18:40Andrea: Hopefully one of my brothers would do.
- 18:42Andrea: I'm gonna catch you Some of them, I'm not sure if all three would.
- 18:46Eric: So I guess that's what I was getting at with the groundwork.
- 18:49Eric: Well, I agree, there's not that romantic chemistry, but most people well, not most people, I guess, some people just go hot and heavy right away.
- 18:59Eric: But the thing I like is that they are building like that friendship, that bond there, as opposed to which we know in some Hallmark movies after 48 hours, I love you, I'm leaving my entire life to be with you which goes at that frantic pace.
- 19:14Eric: But so yeah, I agree it was as far as that chemistry, it was definitely friend chemistry, but I think that's all you want in a first mystery.
- 19:24Andrea: So I feel like you have I mean even like thinking of Mystery 101, there was still that tension that was there, Like you could kind of feel like, oh, there's something that's there.
- 19:35Eric: But when she's like, oh, are you gonna arrest me, like that was very flirty, oh, you've come to arrest me.
- 19:42Eric: She did it twice and so I don't know, I will disagree.
- 19:48Eric: I think there is like I said I think there is nuggets of it and I definitely think there was definitely more of it, and I thought when she fell in his arms it was not like your brother catching you, but I don't know, I think there was a little more.
- 20:03Eric: Okay, I mean, that's where I'm curious to see where it goes, this third one.
- 20:09Andrea: So for me, in general I enjoyed this first one with the dying for chocolate.
- 20:13Andrea: First, the second, I remember the grilling season, that one I didn't like as much at all, like I would say.
- 20:20Andrea: I don't even know what I gave it, but middle of the road slash, lower mystery.
- 20:24Andrea: So I usually, again, I love, except for the ones that you bring me on, except for the Dancing.
- 20:29Eric: Detective.
- 20:30Andrea: the other ones I usually love most of the mysteries and the grilling one was like just an okay for me and so for me kind of this third movie is it's.
- 20:39Andrea: Will I enjoy the series or not Like?
- 20:41Andrea: Will this be something where I'm looking forward to it, even though the Hannah Svundsen one kind of people didn't like the ending I didn't like that ending.
- 20:49Andrea: I'm still I like that series, I'm invested into it.
- 20:53Eric: So will.
- 20:54Andrea: I invest, I don't know.
- 20:55Eric: The third one's gonna be interesting because it's John.
- 20:58Eric: Christian Plummer didn't write it, so it's a different writer.
- 21:01Eric: So it is an interesting thing because, right in my thing, I thought from one to two they did a really good job, in which you obviously this is where we disagree I thought they've done a good job advancing it and getting more comfortable and, yes, furthering the relationships.
- 21:17Eric: But the third one's gonna be is it gonna continue or cause, like?
- 21:22Eric: Everyone writes differently, so I don't know.
- 21:26Andrea: It's.
- 21:26Eric: I'm very curious for that, because I would like to see it continue on this trajectory.
- 21:30Eric: But it may be a little sidetrack, I don't know.
- 21:33Eric: But then a lot of mysteries also have multiple writers and somehow they keep flowing, so I don't know.
- 21:39Andrea: All right, those are my main ones.
- 21:42Eric: Those are your main ones.
- 21:43Andrea: Yeah, what about you?
- 21:44Eric: Okay.
- 21:44Eric: Well, I was gonna say first of all, because you do like all the other mysteries, I'll have you back on when I review matchmaker mysteries then Okay.
- 21:57Andrea: Well, you mean all of them.
- 21:58Eric: I was like that for a picture perfect.
- 22:00Andrea: That one is again picture perfect.
- 22:02Andrea: That would be my bottom one is picture perfect.
- 22:05Andrea: Matchmaker is right up there.
- 22:07Eric: Seriously, Matchmaker is so much worse than.
- 22:11Andrea: Well, I love Victor Webster, he is one of my favorite Hallmark people.
- 22:14Andrea: He needs to be I he would be great with maybe someone else or just different premise.
- 22:22Andrea: I'm not sure.
- 22:22Andrea: Something just didn't click with that series, I don't.
- 22:25Eric: I'd have to go back and watch to see exactly what cause I haven't watched it after the first viewing, let me share with you my notes of what maybe I thought could be a little bit different to make it better.
- 22:37Eric: While Andrew Walker, I talked about how I thought they're really comfortable together, I just him as the detective.
- 22:44Eric: I don't think.
- 22:45Eric: I don't think he could be a different detective, but I don't think he's Tom Schultz detective.
- 22:50Eric: Okay, so in my notes I said it should be Victor Webster, because I think he needs to be like.
- 22:59Eric: I think Tom Schultz in this character needs to be like he needs to be like a rougher, like.
- 23:07Eric: Andrew Walker is like guy next door, you know all shocks, you know I know he's got this doubles and he's trying to look all whatever, but he's still guy next door and I think he needs to be in a little bit different of a detective role.
- 23:22Eric: And I think Tom Schultz should be Victor Webster, who is just, you know, testosterone bursting out of everywhere.
- 23:29Eric: So, and I, yeah, I am a huge fan of Victor Webster too and that's why I I feel insulted that he had to do that mystery, because he has so much better than that and I don't know if it like stunted him from being in another mystery or what, but because he's, yeah, he's one of it.
- 23:52Eric: When, if you go to my Hallmark movie review or ranking all the actors, I have number two behind only Christopher plaha, and you know, on any given day they could flip flop, probably they're, just, you know, great.
- 24:06Andrea: What do you like?
- 24:07Andrea: The one that I haven't heard you mention the morning show.
- 24:10Andrea: Do you have?
- 24:11Andrea: You watch those mysteries?
- 24:12Andrea: Do you like those?
- 24:16Eric: I don't like the series but I like individual, like there's some I like, some I don't like, so I can't say I overall like it.
- 24:26Eric: I also for some reason I've Rick Fox is.
- 24:30Eric: I think that's the guy's name.
- 24:31Eric: Oh, look at you.
- 24:33Andrea: Big NBA fan over here, so yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 24:36Eric: Yeah, you're doing Wade, which is Dwayne Wayne.
- 24:40Eric: I'm not fair with some comments now on her post, but um, yeah he I just don't think he can act.
- 24:52Eric: I think you know what they should do.
- 24:54Eric: They should stick them in a mystery with Candice Cameron beret and let the two of them not act well together and push them aside.
- 25:03Andrea: Well, I don't.
- 25:03Andrea: I mean, he obviously left the series for that last one and Colin Lawrence came in Right and I I enjoyed calling.
- 25:09Andrea: I really like Colin, but I watched Virgin River, so I really like Colin Lawrence.
- 25:13Andrea: I thought, that was the up I have just watched only the one episode.
- 25:18Andrea: That one is like a hard one for me to binge.
- 25:20Andrea: It's very serious at times and it's also a little slow, so sometimes it's a.
- 25:25Andrea: It's a, I got to be in the right mood.
- 25:29Eric: Through two seasons and then you gave up.
- 25:31Eric: Yeah, it's got too too much for me.
- 25:35Andrea: I can understand that, but I think Colin Lawrence, with you, know how the rabbits repeat, which I don't know if that mystery has been canceled because they're I don't think it's a.
- 25:43Eric: I don't think it's officially.
- 25:44Eric: For the record, fixer uppers never been officially canceled either.
- 25:49Eric: No.
- 25:50Andrea: I mean, I'm both of the my breath.
- 25:52Andrea: I know.
- 25:52Andrea: That's why I'm like both the actors are still around.
- 25:54Andrea: Well, at least for the morning show mystery, they're still on the hallmark, so I'm surprised.
- 26:02Eric: And how he has the contract to right.
- 26:05Andrea: I think she's one of the ones, so I think Colin does too.
- 26:08Eric: So, okay, we're really talking a lot about dying for chocolate here, virgin River and all those are two good things, okay so one level in this movie.
- 26:17Eric: So one of the other things, I can't say I didn't like it because I don't think it would work, but how they didn't really hold true to some of the characters of the book.
- 26:28Eric: And I know that you know, if you, if you read the books, there's an even when we talked to John Christian plumber, he just really sort of takes one little scene out of it that he gets inspired by and he doesn't really, you know, base it off the story of the book or the flow.
- 26:46Eric: But one of the things I would like is, like I said, I know we, you know we talked a little bit before about the ex husband's a jerk and I know why you couldn't get away with that, because it's just not hallmark friendly, right, even though the the guy we both agree and and guiding Emily, not the best boyfriend there.
- 27:04Eric: But Marla in the book is also quite chubby and I thought they you know why.
- 27:15Eric: I love Tracy Donnan and every like.
- 27:18Eric: As I said, she's fantastic character.
- 27:20Eric: I love what she's done with all that.
- 27:22Eric: I also I would like to have seen them maybe hold true.
- 27:26Eric: You know, martha, from the good which you know it, you don't have to be rail skin skinny to be on.
- 27:35Eric: You know, in one of these shows I think they could have gotten a character who was, you know, a little true to, to what the who's in the book, and it would have been great seeing that as her friend and I think you know could have brought a lot, a lot to it.
- 27:49Eric: You know, get away from the, you know, the home or the Hollywood stereotype of what you know you have to look like, yeah, and once again, I love JC and I'm glad she's in it and you know it's no, nothing against her.
- 28:03Eric: I just like I say I would love to see that character be cast true to, true to the story, yeah.
- 28:12Eric: So the last thing is and I can't even read my own writing here, oh, the ending.
- 28:19Eric: The ending was just and which is a lot of mysteries.
- 28:24Eric: I guess it just kind of felt a little abrupt when they ran in there and they're like sort of arguing and like I had to rewatch it, which kudos to her.
- 28:34Eric: But he's tackling of it, like the whole thing.
- 28:37Eric: I'm like watching and I'm like wait what, just what?
- 28:39Eric: And maybe that's what it was supposed to be to show you the chaoticness of the moment, but it just seemed like they're sort of running through the woods, this, that and the other, and then the guy stops and then, you know, talks and takes 30 minutes to, you know, decide what he's going to do with her rather than, you know, just put an end to her, which I don't know.
- 29:01Eric: I don't know also why he had a gun with him when he was at this party planting the evidence.
- 29:06Eric: So it is the end.
- 29:07Eric: Just seemed a little too forced.
- 29:10Eric: But you know, what do I know?
- 29:13Eric: The other thing is I felt compelled but I googled the, the hemlock, the wet hemlock, which poison him like, which apparently is very poisonous.
- 29:25Eric: If you like, try it or cook with it.
- 29:31Eric: It would break down too much and it wouldn't be actually poisonous.
- 29:35Eric: I will say I've not tested it, but maybe I'll make some hemlock brownies and take them to work.
- 29:45Andrea: That's like elderberries.
- 29:46Andrea: That's same as elderberries.
- 29:47Andrea: I make elderberry syrup and if you don't actually cook it down enough, you can poison yourself.
- 29:52Andrea: I've had someone who asked who bought a batch from someone who didn't cook it down enough and, like was slowly poisoning herself.
- 30:00Andrea: She's like something's not right.
- 30:01Andrea: I don't feel great started to break out.
- 30:03Andrea: So yeah, herbs can be.
- 30:04Andrea: I mean, you definitely got to know what you're taking when you're, when you're working with herbs.
- 30:08Andrea: So yeah, I totally believe it.
- 30:11Andrea: Cook it down if you're going to try it.
- 30:12Andrea: We are not recommending trying it, though.
- 30:18Eric: It's not.
- 30:18Eric: It is not our suggestion, and if you do, please do not say we did ensue us.
- 30:24Eric: Yes, again we are saying do not do not do that.
- 30:27Eric: I do not believe it's poisonous.
- 30:30Eric: Do not try it.
- 30:31Eric: Okay, let's move on to our second class category.
- 30:37Eric: So what do you think of the mystery?
- 30:41Eric: How did you like how the mystery played out?
- 30:44Andrea: So I remember not knowing.
- 30:46Andrea: Not the first time, I don't think I remember.
- 30:48Eric: And even the second time.
- 30:50Andrea: The second time.
- 30:51Andrea: Well, the second time I was like I can't remember who did it.
- 30:54Andrea: And then at the end I remembered when they were at the party and she was talking to the killer I don't want to spoil it in case people haven't watched but I was like, oh yeah, that's, that's right, that's who did it.
- 31:08Andrea: And then they ended up, you know, in the situation and so I found funny which this wasn't anywhere alike or dislike, but I thought this was kind of funny when they ended the scene or went to commercial break, when Tom came up behind Goldie and like the garage and like put his hand over her.
- 31:23Andrea: And he said I didn't want to scare you.
- 31:26Andrea: I mean, that is the most terrifying thing ever if you're in a garage and you're like sneaking around and someone comes up behind you, puts their hand over your mouth.
- 31:34Andrea: How is that not scary?
- 31:35Andrea: I just saw him.
- 31:36Andrea: That's so amusing like wait what that's how you're like say you're there.
- 31:41Eric: You think that's more scary than just being like hey, Goldie, it's Tom.
- 31:48Andrea: And he and just saying your name.
- 31:49Andrea: So, like I had this happen at the gym, I was on a tremble once and one of my trainer you know guy friends he this is this is kind of saying this is what made me think of it.
- 32:00Andrea: I was like, oh my gosh, came up behind me and he was like I didn't want to scare you.
- 32:04Andrea: I was like I just had like touched my butt to get my attention and I was like you could have said my name.
- 32:12Andrea: That was more terrifying to me, you coming up and just touching me than just saying my name.
- 32:17Eric: I would have been like I think it was just this excuse.
- 32:20Andrea: And it felt the same way of like this situation where you're like why do you need?
- 32:24Andrea: I mean, I feel like someone's physically touching you.
- 32:26Andrea: It's much more jarring than you your name.
- 32:29Eric: You just be like hey, goldie, I'm here.
- 32:31Andrea: What.
- 32:32Andrea: So, yeah, I call that funny.
- 32:35Andrea: Did you know who did it?
- 32:37Andrea: Um, I did.
- 32:39Andrea: No, I did not.
- 32:40Eric: I thought they did a really good job with their red herrings.
- 32:43Eric: I think I'm getting sort of the the pattern of the curious caterer, though it's well, I guess it's usual.
- 32:53Eric: The thing of like who's the guy who's not really involved at all is the one it ends up being, as opposed to.
- 33:01Eric: There were no red herrings for this guy.
- 33:03Eric: He was just sort of a side character and then off it goes.
- 33:07Eric: I did like the when they sort of played it out and they did they replayed how he got all the people, you know, his little hypnosis to get everyone thinking and planning his whole thing to do it.
- 33:24Eric: I thought that was really good.
- 33:26Eric: I liked like I say I liked the that it turned out to be him.
- 33:31Eric: I guess we just have said who it is because said it's a him and I sort of let off the hypnosis thing.
- 33:39Eric: We won't say the names, but yeah.
- 33:42Eric: So I thought it laid out.
- 33:44Eric: Like I said, despite the ending being a little abrupt, I thought it had a good ending.
- 33:48Eric: I liked the way that they kind of like how you liked the beginning, when that shows are running through the woods in the dark.
- 33:54Eric: I kind of liked the way they did that thing of revealing how it like led up to the final thing.
- 34:01Eric: You know how the whole crime happened, so that was pretty good.
- 34:07Eric: So, yeah, I liked the mystery.
- 34:10Eric: All right, the other thing we talked about here is style.
- 34:16Eric: I had a interesting time with this one.
- 34:18Eric: So what'd you think?
- 34:20Eric: I forget what the Colorado town's called much style going around there.
- 34:26Andrea: I mean it was a lot of you know catering and just kind of I mean your basic, where nothing too stylish that I mean stood out to me on either men or women.
- 34:36Andrea: It was just kind of your basic small small town attire.
- 34:42Eric: I thought Marla had some cute outfits going.
- 34:44Eric: Goldie had a couple, but then she also had a couple head scratchers, like her coat, that she wore with that blue shirt when she was like hiding in the closet and when she went to his office after that, like it seemed like the sleeves were too long, like the coat was too big for her I guess, being the picky and the only reason I probably noticed it is because I know I have to talk about style and I'm sure I did not notice it the first go around, but I do think like Goldie now I think in the second one I think, like even with her caterer outfits, I think they're totally stylish.
- 35:21Eric: I think in this one it was just sort of up and down and I think Goldie could have dressed, you know, cute throughout the entire thing, which I thought Marla did.
- 35:33Eric: And then the guys were all just kind of whatever, like detective wear, for Tom Brad wore his little blue, which I found kind of interesting for their that first party they had.
- 35:48Eric: That he wore like some sort of athletic wear, whatever you call it leisure wear, athleisure wear, whatever it's called.
- 35:55Andrea: Athleisure.
- 35:56Eric: Athleisure yeah so, but whatever.
- 35:58Eric: So, yeah, it wasn't like an overly stylish movie in my opinion.
- 36:02Eric: So, okay, let's get to our rankings.
- 36:06Eric: I think I know where you're gonna go with this, considering you compared it to your brother, but where do you put the steam?
- 36:13Eric: Well, at least I hope.
- 36:15Andrea: I know right.
- 36:16Eric: There's a family show here, so the steam eater.
- 36:20Andrea: I gave it a two, which might be generous.
- 36:24Eric: I gave it a three and once again, I agree with you.
- 36:26Eric: I think it was just friends I did.
- 36:27Eric: The only reason I gave it there is because I do think they had little flirty glimpses in it, but I don't think by any means was there anything I feel like and you're right, like Mystery 101, there were some things where like kind of like oh, oh, like you know, look, give each other some good, hard looks kind of thing and the tension.
- 36:49Eric: Yeah, it did that a little more.
- 36:51Eric: All right, or a story Not looking at the mystery, just the overall story, or how would you?
- 36:59Eric: How would you rank this?
- 37:04Andrea: Six.
- 37:05Eric: Six.
- 37:06Andrea: Only because it was slow in parts for me.
- 37:09Eric: so Okay, I gave it a seven.
- 37:11Eric: I guess a little better than you.
- 37:14Eric: I didn't think it was great, but I enjoyed it.
- 37:18Eric: And then we get to the mystery, the actual mystery I gave it an eight?
- 37:22Andrea: I thought that was I mean.
- 37:23Andrea: Again, I didn't know who did it the first time and even the second time.
- 37:26Andrea: It took me halfway through before I remembered.
- 37:29Eric: I think I would have been there with you with an eight, but I gave it a seven just because once again maybe this should go in the story, the ending, just why I liked it all the way up until that final like run through the woods, you know good tension, and then sort of got there and it just sort of all collapsed, that final thing.
- 37:46Eric: So it just deflated a little bit for me.
- 37:48Eric: How about the acting?
- 37:51Andrea: I gave it a nine.
- 37:52Andrea: I mean I thought they did a good job.
- 37:55Eric: Same here.
- 37:55Eric: I said Nikki, she's just Uber talented.
- 37:59Eric: I thought Andrew even though I'd like to say I would like to see a little more macho guy I thought he was perfectly competent and I thought the secondary characters were all and that's where a lot of these, you know, can fall apart with the secondaries, but I think they had such a strong, like we were just talking Lachlan Monroe in everything, kendall Cross in everything.
- 38:23Eric: So these are like really good supporting ones, and even that Antonio Cayenne, despite the fact he's not in Nikki's league.
- 38:31Eric: He's been in a lot of things as well, so they didn't let go and say, hey, we just need to get some local people from the local community theater.
- 38:38Eric: They definitely went ahead and had a good budget for talent in this one, so, yeah, both gave it some nines.
- 38:45Eric: How about style?
- 38:51Andrea: Well, I had originally done a seven, but then, as we're talking, I feel like I'm going to knock it down to a six.
- 38:57Eric: Well, I have it as an eight.
- 38:58Eric: As we're talking trying to figure out why I gave it an eight, because, like I said, it was just ho hum.
- 39:04Eric: You know what I think it was, and we talked about this last time too, with Frankie Quinn.
- 39:09Eric: Marla pulled it off too, that, whatever look with the hair pulled back, with those bangs, things hanging down the front, that's, that's, that's fire.
- 39:22Eric: So I have to say that was I give, that's why I give it an eight for Marla's hair.
- 39:28Eric: So, all right, quickly add up yours, I come to a 34 31 31.
- 39:35Eric: So we're at a 65.
- 39:37Eric: So that's basically a.
- 39:39Eric: If it's on, give it a watch, put on, maybe watch it, maybe don't watch it.
- 39:47Andrea: Did you like the second one better than this one?
- 39:51Eric: I yes and no.
- 39:54Eric: Okay, I didn't like there's a lot.
- 40:00Eric: I didn't like it like Mason.
- 40:02Eric: I didn't like him, the private investigator who was in there.
- 40:08Eric: I found her character like this sort of weird, random age, just like it was stuck in there just so they could have this thing of which I don't know why she would hide the files in the dressing room of a place that like there was just some way weird, weird things in it and so.
- 40:33Eric: But I liked, I really liked the character progression between Andrew Marla and Nikki.
- 40:39Eric: I thought they were.
- 40:40Eric: The three of them were really good in the second one and, like you, I'm really looking forward to to the, to the third one that comes out, and especially with having the different writer.
- 40:52Andrea: Yeah, I'm.
- 40:53Andrea: I'm looking forward to see.
- 40:54Andrea: Will I want to continue?
- 40:56Eric: watching.
- 40:57Eric: You continue anyhow.
- 40:59Andrea: Well, I mean I will.
- 40:59Andrea: I will watch it no matter what night.
- 41:02Andrea: Not be a favorite, I am actually.
- 41:04Andrea: Did you see the haunted harmony mysteries?
- 41:08Eric: trailer?
- 41:08Eric: I have not.
- 41:09Andrea: I've not actually seen any of the trailers, so I got it because I like to watch again, because murder show is my favorite.
- 41:17Andrea: I like to watch a murder show episode of the mornings as I work out and they happen to play the trailer this morning when I was working out and I'm like at first, I mean this is not wait, wait, wait.
- 41:28Eric: Murder, she wrote, is your workout jam.
- 41:30Eric: So I'm 180 year old woman walking around solving crimes is what, like, gets you all pumped, ready to roll.
- 41:41Andrea: I mean, I've seen all of them a bazillion times.
- 41:43Andrea: I own the DVD set for all 12 seasons.
- 41:47Eric: So I was eating breakfast, not I'm working out.
- 41:50Andrea: But okay, I'm lifting weights and have murder show run and I have, so you're doing like your two pound weights, because you're doing your.
- 41:58Eric: What's your, jessica?
- 41:59Eric: What's her name?
- 42:00Eric: Fletcher right.
- 42:02Andrea: Jessica Fletcher.
- 42:03Eric: Oh yeah, Like I said, she's 190 years old.
- 42:05Eric: She can barely pick up the like paper bag.
- 42:07Andrea: So she's like in her fifties, like, if you look at the show, I mean again, this is like the golden girls thing Also a big golden girls fan.
- 42:15Eric: We don't talk about that because I'm as old as the golden girls.
- 42:17Andrea: Well see, and that's the same thing with Jessica Fletcher, like they have her.
- 42:21Eric: She was nine or fifties.
- 42:24Andrea: Fifties through, because it ran for 12 seasons and then it went up to, I want to say, 72.
- 42:29Eric: So that was a 60 when she was 80.
- 42:31Eric: She was not 50 when that started 60 to like 72.
- 42:35Eric: Yes, oh, 60.
- 42:37Eric: Okay.
- 42:39Andrea: Well, it was not in her eighties but yes.
- 42:40Andrea: Well, it went into her eighties with the movies technically or close to it.
- 42:44Eric: She wasn't quite but you're talking about everything but dying for chocolate.
- 42:48Andrea: I know right, but the hot it, and so when she was, when she was a guest star in Virgin River.
- 42:53Eric: I wish.
- 42:54Andrea: All right, no, no, no.
- 42:56Eric: So you're working out to Jessica Fletcher.
- 42:58Eric: So what's going on?
- 42:59Andrea: in the haunted harmony.
- 43:00Andrea: This reason for that trailer came on and the synopsis that we read.
- 43:04Andrea: It sounded kind of kind of dumb.
- 43:07Andrea: But then actually watching the trailer I'm like this looks really good.
- 43:11Eric: Now you'll have to go watch it funny, like sort of more of a comedic one, or is it?
- 43:17Andrea: a little spooky, but then also funny as well, because the ghost actually, like it, comes alive and you can see the ghost.
- 43:24Andrea: So I'm curious to see how it kind of plays out.
- 43:28Andrea: And she's trying to solve his murder.
- 43:31Andrea: That happened, I don't know how many years ago.
- 43:33Andrea: And so I don't know if it's just you know her that can see him or if it is everyone that I'm assuming it might be just to Marim her character.
- 43:42Andrea: I'm just trying to look up what her name.
- 43:44Andrea: I do not get this.
- 43:47Andrea: I don't know how to pronounce this name.
- 43:49Andrea: Her character's name Is G E T H S E M A N E Got this.
- 43:56Andrea: Guess what this means that name.
- 43:59Andrea: So whoever she's playing I don't know if it's just her that can see this ghost and then the Marco, the Virgin River guy, he is going to be the love interest that comes in at some point.
- 44:10Andrea: So it looks actually really enticing.
- 44:13Andrea: So, in case other people were kind of curious, it does look actually quite good.
- 44:18Eric: So there's the four of them out there.
- 44:20Eric: There's the curious caters we've talked about the harmony murder with God's quick question the Hannah Swenson, and then there's Mr Island.
- 44:31Eric: So those four rank them one through four, one being what you're most excited for for, with one that you're least.
- 44:41Andrea: I would say now it's the haunted mystery.
- 44:45Eric: Wait, that's one.
- 44:46Andrea: That would be now the haunted harmony.
- 44:49Andrea: Mysteries is going to be my one.
- 44:50Andrea: After seeing the preview, it's pumped into my one spot.
- 44:53Andrea: Hannah Swenson two, and then mystery Island three, and then I'm curious caters down at my four mystery Island, only because glass onion, did you ever see that?
- 45:05Andrea: Yeah, netflix, it just seems like it's the same thing, only Homer version, and so we won't, we won't tell, we won't tell.
- 45:14Andrea: And yeah no spoilers.
- 45:16Andrea: Homer, that, that, that how you just ripped off Netflix, but when he was describing it, when you were talking to him, like it seems very like the glass onion, and then watching the preview is like this is very much like the glass onion, so I'm curious to see if it deviates or how that kind of plays out.
- 45:31Andrea: But yeah, that's why it's not ranked high.
- 45:34Andrea: What about for you?
- 45:35Andrea: What's your, what's your four ranking?
- 45:38Eric: I'm going glass onion, number one.
- 45:45Eric: Number two is Hannah Swenson.
- 45:47Eric: So even though it's not murder, she baked hands.
- 45:49Eric: Winston's not my favorite mystery, come on.
- 45:52Eric: It ended on that cliffhanger.
- 45:53Eric: So I'm anxious.
- 45:55Eric: I'm anxious.
- 45:56Eric: And then curious cater, and then the harmony, but I haven't seen the preview.
- 46:01Eric: So maybe after I see that, no, I'll say this, and I think we're both in agreement here that you know everyone's saying, oh, just bring back old mysteries, I don't want new mysteries.
- 46:12Eric: We're both people who like the new mysteries, so I have.
- 46:17Eric: Just because I ranked that fourth, by no means does it mean I'm not excited for it.
- 46:23Eric: I'm totally thrilled for it.
- 46:27Eric: You know I'm in four weeks in a row of mysteries is going to be fantastic.
- 46:31Eric: But it's just like I said, there's just the reasons why the mystery island, partly, I guess, is when we talked to, you know, john Christian plumber back in I don't know what it was March, he led us on that he was writing it, and then the next time, when he told us about the whole episode eight, he dropped a little more hints.
- 46:54Eric: So, and just talking to him, he's he's been a great guy who he'll like communicate with us, which whatever.
- 47:01Eric: He's a really, really nice guy.
- 47:02Eric: But so he's kind of.
- 47:05Eric: This had me anxious for this one, so that's why I have it as number one.
- 47:09Eric: The number two, once again, like I said, it ended on that cliffhanger, so I got to know what happens.
- 47:14Eric: Next three is just curious, cater, because I've got that investment.
- 47:18Eric: And then the fourth is just because it's a new one that you know there we go so yeah but now I don't know which one's going to be the best.
- 47:31Eric: You know, we'll see.
- 47:32Eric: I'm anxious.
- 47:33Eric: I'm excited for all four.
- 47:34Eric: I think all four will probably be really good.
- 47:38Andrea: I'm excited for mysteries again and having them like I mean they've we've been having more drama again.
- 47:43Andrea: This week there's another drama movie instead of the mystery, so I'm just excited.
- 47:48Eric: Is it?
- 47:48Eric: Is it?
- 47:48Eric: Wait, is the the Air Force one?
- 47:49Eric: Uh, Hallmark mystery?
- 47:51Eric: Uh huh, Movie mystery.
- 47:52Eric: Okay, I did not know.
- 47:54Eric: By the way, even though it's, I guess it's on uh, um, movies and mysteries, so we can talk about it.
- 48:00Eric: But, guiding Emily, we talked about it a little bit in our uh whatever, our DMs there.
- 48:06Eric: That was a really good movie.
- 48:08Eric: That was a really good movie, Uh, so, I.
- 48:12Andrea: I was not.
- 48:12Andrea: I did not have high expectations and I was pleasantly surprised.
- 48:15Andrea: I'm like this was.
- 48:16Andrea: It was great.
- 48:17Eric: Well, I'll say I uh, when they, when they started having the dog talk, I'm like oh, whatever, but didn't bother me at all and, like I said, I thought it was super well written, super well written, um so so we Catch that one, catch that one, if you haven't.
- 48:38Eric: Yes, I agree.
- 48:39Eric: I agree.
- 48:40Eric: All right, Andrea.
- 48:42Eric: Well, thank you very much.
- 48:45Andrea: Thank you, always a pleasure.
- 48:48Eric: Here's what I do when we, when you like one of the ones coming up and you're like, oh, that movie is so good, you can come back, and well, I guess I'd have to like it too.
- 48:59Eric: Uh, all right, that's it.
- 49:02Eric: We'll just.
- 49:03Eric: We'll just talk about matchmaker mysteries together, all right.
- 49:06Eric: Well, thank you very much for joining.
- 49:10Eric: Have a wonderful, wonderful evening.
- 49:12Eric: Thanks Eric, thanks Eric, thanks Eric.
- 49:13Andrea: Thanks Eric, thanks Eric.
- 49:16Eric: Thanks Eric.
- 49:17Eric: Thanks Eric.
- 49:17Eric: Thanks Eric, thanks Eric, thanks Eric.
- 49:19Eric: Thanks Eric, thanks Eric, thanks Eric.
