- 0:00Speaker 1: Finally track down the tom Sir girl, we talked to
- 0:03Speaker 1: you on FaceTime while you were shooting Two Bears, One
- 0:05Speaker 1: Cave one Day back in March.
- 0:07Speaker 2: I believe we did. I think we've been on text threads.
- 0:10Speaker 2: I saw you at the Machine premiere. It's been a
- 0:12Speaker 2: whole thing, and I thought I was gonna do press
- 0:14Speaker 2: run leading up to the fourth and I was like,
- 0:17Speaker 2: I think could probably do like a stop in Nashville,
- 0:18Speaker 2: and then they moved it this week and I was like,
- 0:20Speaker 2: and then you guys said you're gonna be here.
- 0:22Speaker 3: I was like, fuck, yeah, well yeah, we had we
- 0:24Speaker 3: had to pivot because we're fans.
- 0:27Speaker 4: We are massive fans.
- 0:28Speaker 5: Oh thank you and uh.
- 0:30Speaker 3: When Taylor and I was going back and forth, I
- 0:31Speaker 3: was like, it doesn't sound I was like, I was
- 0:33Speaker 3: texting with your guy or you. We were in that
- 0:35Speaker 3: group channel, like it sounds like he might be coming
- 0:37Speaker 3: through Nashville still, but the people in the bar solos,
- 0:39Speaker 3: I was like, I think he's just doing New York.
- 0:41Speaker 4: Then we found out you're doing New York. It's like, hey,
- 0:43Speaker 4: we gotta oh, we got to get out.
- 0:44Speaker 1: To New York too. We usually come out here a
- 0:46Speaker 1: lot anyway, So nice. Is an easy little deal.
- 0:47Speaker 5: It's a fun it's a fun stop, right it is.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Usually when we come here, it's like we take the
- 0:51Speaker 1: same flight we do this morning. We you know, five
- 0:54Speaker 1: am cruise, get here at nine and then we spend
- 0:56Speaker 1: all day here and they take the earliest flight out
- 0:58Speaker 1: the next day. Kind yeah, it's always you didn't get off.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Do you do like a little like, you know, enjoy
- 1:04Speaker 2: New York, like go to an awesome place for dinner
- 1:06Speaker 2: that kind of thing?
- 1:07Speaker 1: Or no, not really, usually like rip around the corner,
- 1:10Speaker 1: like what was that place we went to the other day.
- 1:11Speaker 1: It's like right over here by the hotel.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Oh hate butchering it because it's all a little like
- 1:16Speaker 3: hole in the wall. Sometimes Yeah, yeah, it's awesome. Do
- 1:19Speaker 3: you remember what it's called JP It's like pig something.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:24Speaker 1: She kind of gives me anxiety though, New York it's
- 1:26Speaker 1: fucking stressful. Man. Where'd you grow up a group in Arizona? Okay? People?
- 1:31Speaker 5: Oh yeah, this is a big departure.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Yeah, you get off you just like I'm on the
- 1:35Speaker 1: highway and we're in our uber and we're driving by.
- 1:37Speaker 1: He's actually watching her special on the way here, and
- 1:40Speaker 1: I'm just looking out at these apartments with the windows
- 1:42Speaker 1: that are so tiny, and I'm like, people just living there.
- 1:45Speaker 1: People live in the size of what we're in right now.
- 1:47Speaker 5: It's chaos. It's living in chaos.
- 1:49Speaker 4: And then we hit the bagel shop. Russ and Daughters.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Yeah, we had a bagel shop, and I'm thinking to myself, dude,
- 1:53Speaker 1: this is it literally was like the scene of a
- 1:56Speaker 1: gangster movie where two guys are like talking about people
- 1:59Speaker 1: are still taking tickets.
- 2:00Speaker 4: Yeah, We're sitting in there nervous. Yeah, like do we
- 2:03Speaker 4: just wait?
- 2:03Speaker 2: I have the thing though, where I like, I don't know, man,
- 2:06Speaker 2: I I don't have to live in a city like this,
- 2:09Speaker 2: but I have to be able to go to it
- 2:12Speaker 2: like fairly regularly to kind of feel alive in a way.
- 2:16Speaker 5: I need cities.
- 2:17Speaker 1: We were having that conversation on the flight, like growing
- 2:19Speaker 1: up in small towns, like you always think when you leave,
- 2:22Speaker 1: like he went to Nebraska with to Michigan, You're like,
- 2:24Speaker 1: some day I'm gonna be back in that small town.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Some day I'm gonna be back. And there I went
- 2:27Speaker 1: back recently, and I remember sitting there going, brother, if
- 2:30Speaker 1: I came back here and just lived here, I don't
- 2:33Speaker 1: think I think. I'm like I've seen too much now,
- 2:35Speaker 1: I've gone outside too much where it's like I just
- 2:37Speaker 1: can't go back to living that small town life. It's
- 2:40Speaker 1: nothing against the people that live.
- 2:41Speaker 5: In Could you live in ann Arbor?
- 2:43Speaker 1: No? No, no, But it's more of like a it's
- 2:47Speaker 1: a cool city. It's a cool city. However, like I
- 2:50Speaker 1: remember playing and then seeing dudes come be like, yeah
- 2:53Speaker 1: I played here back in the eighties and stuff like that.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I don't think to myself, man, like go do something. Sure,
- 2:58Speaker 1: don't let that be the identity, but you but it's that.
- 3:02Speaker 2: That's that person, and and like they're them choosing to
- 3:05Speaker 2: be like that's who I like, hoping that that gets
- 3:07Speaker 2: them stuff. But you'd be going there if you wanted
- 3:09Speaker 2: to to live life, is what I'm saying, you know
- 3:12Speaker 2: what I mean, Like you wouldn't be like, hey remember me.
- 3:15Speaker 4: You know, I'd be in Lincoln and we're in my
- 3:17Speaker 4: Jersey still.
- 3:21Speaker 5: You guys, remember I got the best tour of the
- 3:25Speaker 5: facilities there.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Oh really, dude, that fires me up. Don't they roll
- 3:28Speaker 3: out the red carpet there?
- 3:29Speaker 1: Man?
- 3:29Speaker 5: It was awesome.
- 3:30Speaker 1: I saw Bert there last week.
- 3:31Speaker 4: I was like, hey, they take a carry and they're like, oh, bro,
- 3:33Speaker 4: they are the best.
- 3:34Speaker 5: It's one of my funt because I'm I love college football.
- 3:37Speaker 5: Like I love college football.
- 3:39Speaker 2: I think it's all based on like kind of like
- 3:41Speaker 2: your household growing up, you know what I mean, Like
- 3:43Speaker 2: kids who guys who are like I love baseball, It's like, yeah,
- 3:46Speaker 2: your dad loved baseball, right, Like that's kind of like.
- 3:48Speaker 5: What they were exposed to. So my dad loved college football.
- 3:52Speaker 5: So we were college football.
- 3:53Speaker 4: There's a team and that this this ambulance or this
- 3:56Speaker 4: fire truck in New York.
- 4:00Speaker 5: Yeah, someone just got shot in the head.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Right now, there's a strike going on, protests, March happening.
- 4:09Speaker 1: What was your what was your squad growing up?
- 4:11Speaker 2: Or so it there's a little bit of like move
- 4:14Speaker 2: I moved a lot as a kid, but I basically
- 4:17Speaker 2: became super hardcore FSU fan. But I'm like, think about it,
- 4:22Speaker 2: like I'm I'm born in seventy nine, so like in
- 4:26Speaker 2: the eighties is when I'm watching the game and like
- 4:29Speaker 2: kind of understanding what I'm watching.
- 4:30Speaker 1: And then we moved to Florida.
- 4:32Speaker 2: So if you moved to Florida at the height of
- 4:35Speaker 2: in the nineties, you're gonna pick one of the Big
- 4:38Speaker 2: three at the time, and so I was just like
- 4:41Speaker 2: big FSU fan. It's funny because I was thinking about this,
- 4:43Speaker 2: how when you hang out with like we talked to
- 4:45Speaker 2: like pro players, sometimes they talk to you like you
- 4:49Speaker 2: could have to Like A J Hawk was at my
- 4:52Speaker 2: house and we were talking about he knows I'm a
- 4:55Speaker 2: big fan, and I was I love like hearing like
- 4:57Speaker 2: recruiting story, like.
- 4:58Speaker 5: How'd you pick?
- 4:58Speaker 1: You know? What was it?
- 4:59Speaker 6: Like?
- 4:59Speaker 5: What was the tr transition? Like he's like, why didn't you?
- 5:02Speaker 7: Uh?
- 5:02Speaker 5: Why didn't you play at FSU? And I was like
- 5:04Speaker 5: what he's like a football I was like what.
- 5:08Speaker 1: He goes, why didn't you play there?
- 5:09Speaker 2: And I go in the late nineteen nineties and he's like, yeah,
- 5:12Speaker 2: you could have played there.
- 5:13Speaker 5: I was like, what are you talking about?
- 5:14Speaker 2: Who would I have fucking backed up Corey Simon Like
- 5:17Speaker 2: what are you talking about?
- 5:18Speaker 6: Man?
- 5:18Speaker 5: He's like he's like, you could have played there.
- 5:20Speaker 2: I was like, I couldn't have fucking watched their jerseys
- 5:22Speaker 2: they would have Like He's like, I go, you, I
- 5:25Speaker 2: think you're thinking could you have played there?
- 5:27Speaker 5: You could have played there. I couldn't have fucking it
- 5:29Speaker 5: wouldn't have let me try out for the team there.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Did you play ball growing up?
- 5:33Speaker 5: I played at high school.
- 5:33Speaker 4: He's like, you played?
- 5:36Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 5:36Speaker 2: I mean I was. I was decent. I was, you know,
- 5:39Speaker 2: I was started. I played both ways, but I wasn't like.
- 5:42Speaker 2: I got recruited by D two schools and a couple
- 5:44Speaker 2: of D threes. I was gonna play and I One
- 5:46Speaker 2: of the coaches called me the week before camp in August,
- 5:50Speaker 2: this is what would have been my freshman year, and
- 5:52Speaker 2: he was we're excited to see you. This is like
- 5:53Speaker 2: a small school in Virginia. And I was like what.
- 5:56Speaker 2: He's like, you're you all ready for tomorrow. I was like,
- 5:59Speaker 2: I'm not coming to school there. He was like what.
- 6:01Speaker 2: I was like, oh yeah. You guys called in like
- 6:05Speaker 2: June and said that I had to take a math
- 6:07Speaker 2: class to go to school there.
- 6:10Speaker 5: So I didn't take that class.
- 6:12Speaker 1: What was gonna happen?
- 6:13Speaker 5: He was like, you're not coming tomorrow? Like he's like,
- 6:15Speaker 5: camp starts tomorrow. I was like, no, I'm going to
- 6:17Speaker 5: a different school. He was like what the fuck?
- 6:18Speaker 1: Man? I was like, nobody told you. He was like no,
- 6:21Speaker 1: So he hung up with the phone. He's like whatever. Yeah.
- 6:23Speaker 5: He was like I guess we don't have a center.
- 6:25Speaker 5: So you played college ball.
- 6:27Speaker 3: No, he almost played college and you said you went
- 6:29Speaker 3: to another school.
- 6:31Speaker 5: I didn't.
- 6:31Speaker 4: Okay, okay, not not, but not for playing that.
- 6:33Speaker 1: That is a d two story though, because like I
- 6:35Speaker 1: don't know how it was for you, well when you did.
- 6:36Speaker 1: I got there like June, my freshman year before, like
- 6:39Speaker 1: going to my freshman right, Like, you get there a
- 6:40Speaker 1: couple of months before, and then you take a shit.
- 6:42Speaker 4: Out senior class or not senior summer class.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Yeah, you take summer classes like your first couple of
- 6:46Speaker 1: credits and dip the toe in before you really hit
- 6:48Speaker 1: the full schedule in the fall.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Because it's like the football players and the Asians all
- 6:51Speaker 3: take a summer class.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Yeah, there's no doubt about it. There's dude, college football is.
- 6:57Speaker 1: I love that atmosphere, Dude. I just watched a video
- 7:00Speaker 1: night they had.
- 7:01Speaker 2: It was one of those college like I follow like
- 7:03Speaker 2: a couple of accounts, and they were recapping the ten
- 7:06Speaker 2: loudest moments of last season. It was just like random
- 7:10Speaker 2: games and watching the slides of the ten loudest moments,
- 7:14Speaker 2: I got goosebumps, Like I was like, oh, like games,
- 7:17Speaker 2: I don't even give a fuck about just yeah hearing,
- 7:20Speaker 2: because the pandemonium at those games is so different like NFL's.
- 7:24Speaker 2: You know, it is the top two, you're the best players,
- 7:27Speaker 2: obviously the best game, but the college atmosphere is so
- 7:30Speaker 2: fucking bombed you can't.
- 7:31Speaker 4: Yeah, the college like you get the fans.
- 7:33Speaker 1: They like to have chance and they do stuff in
- 7:35Speaker 1: the fourth quarter and then it's it is a totally
- 7:38Speaker 1: different scene.
- 7:39Speaker 2: I'll go to all of them too, like people like, yeah,
- 7:42Speaker 2: I grew up a fic. But like every time we're
- 7:44Speaker 2: on tour, if we're in a college town, I always
- 7:46Speaker 2: like tell my tour manager call that fucking school, see
- 7:49Speaker 2: if we can do a tour. I love the tour.
- 7:51Speaker 2: I don't give a fuck if it's sec big ten big.
- 7:55Speaker 2: I just love being around and like I just like
- 7:58Speaker 2: coaches and like, you know, even like the equipment guys.
- 8:01Speaker 2: They are always like so fired up about they're the
- 8:03Speaker 2: best dude, and they fucking they're like all right, you know,
- 8:06Speaker 2: they give you the tour. They're like these are the jerseys,
- 8:07Speaker 2: and like give me that ship, take all the gloves.
- 8:09Speaker 2: We take it all.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Hell yeah we oh fuck yeah, we do.
- 8:13Speaker 4: Like the recruiting photos and shit too, like you should.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Oh dude.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Yeahs the craziest thing because I was in Buffalo and
- 8:21Speaker 2: I got like a tour of the Bills place and
- 8:23Speaker 2: they have like they did a new they're going to
- 8:25Speaker 2: do a new stadium, but they have a newer facility
- 8:28Speaker 2: so for like you know, it's an NFL's like facility.
- 8:31Speaker 2: It's nice, right, it's like pretty modern. They're showing us
- 8:34Speaker 2: all those ship and they're going like that was pretty impressive.
- 8:36Speaker 2: We go to Baton Rouge and we're like, what is happening?
- 8:41Speaker 2: I mean, it was like Jeff Bezos's like version, He's like,
- 8:45Speaker 2: is this what a college thing's like?
- 8:47Speaker 1: Like?
- 8:47Speaker 2: We were like, I mean, we walked down this hallway
- 8:50Speaker 2: that's dark, and I'm like, what's going on? And it's
- 8:52Speaker 2: like lit but dark, And then when you turn, you
- 8:56Speaker 2: just turn and these glass doors automatically open, and then
- 9:01Speaker 2: it's it's like heaven. It's like like super bright. And
- 9:05Speaker 2: you see a silhouette of a LSU player and you're
- 9:09Speaker 2: like what the fuck? And you walk down the hall
- 9:12Speaker 2: and then there's like these statues with different LSU get
- 9:15Speaker 2: and they're like, yeah, this is the this is where
- 9:17Speaker 2: we take recruits. I'm like, yeah, they all sign right,
- 9:18Speaker 2: and they're like yeah. Usually when they get to hear
- 9:20Speaker 2: they're like, I want to come. And then you turn
- 9:22Speaker 2: into the locker room and it looks like Emirates first class.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Fucking it looks like a first class so I guess
- 9:29Speaker 2: we modeled after first class international chairs, Like yeah, and
- 9:34Speaker 2: they go. We monitored that our players are not getting
- 9:36Speaker 2: enough sleep, so we encourage them to sleep here. And
- 9:39Speaker 2: then they had an air vent like in where they
- 9:43Speaker 2: put their shit so that it never smells in the
- 9:45Speaker 2: locker like all this shit. I was like, what the fuck, man,
- 9:48Speaker 2: It's like a one hundred million dollar locker room. And
- 9:51Speaker 2: I was like, all right, this is like.
- 9:53Speaker 3: That's one of the best facilities I think we've ever seen.
- 9:56Speaker 3: We were out there in the spring doing our spring
- 9:57Speaker 3: tour and we got the you painting that picture, like
- 9:59Speaker 3: especially when you get through the sliding doors and are unreal.
- 10:04Speaker 5: Right and you imagine like you're eighteen and you're like.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Uh, imagine go into Oregon like we were nine graduating
- 10:11Speaker 1: and that was when like Oregon was at at the
- 10:13Speaker 1: top of their game. New uniforms every single week, new
- 10:15Speaker 1: uniform styles. Nike They're putting everything in there, and you
- 10:18Speaker 1: see the facilities. College facilities are so much different than NFL.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Don't I Mean I kind of go like for especially
- 10:25Speaker 2: for the guys that are like literally going from one
- 10:27Speaker 2: to the next party.
- 10:28Speaker 5: You've got to be like, the fuck is this?
- 10:29Speaker 1: Oh dude?
- 10:30Speaker 4: Yeah, the money goes into the players in the NFL.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Yeah, college all right?
- 10:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:36Speaker 1: The funny thing about Baton Rouge and I love Louisiana,
- 10:39Speaker 1: but if you go on campus at LSU, You're like,
- 10:41Speaker 1: this is maybe the nicest place I've ever been in
- 10:43Speaker 1: my life. Like, the campus is beautiful, all the buildings
- 10:46Speaker 1: are the same color, the all the plants are perfectly organized.
- 10:50Speaker 1: You step one foot off that campus and you're like,
- 10:53Speaker 1: where the fuck did I know?
- 10:54Speaker 5: Yeah, it is a truly drawn well.
- 10:57Speaker 1: We went through the country.
- 10:58Speaker 2: My little sister went to Ole Miss And when you're
- 11:01Speaker 2: in Oxford, it feels like a like a movie set
- 11:05Speaker 2: of a college town. Like when you're in and around campus,
- 11:08Speaker 2: you're like, this feels like make believe. Like you feel
- 11:11Speaker 2: like they're gonna like, all right, cut and they're gonna
- 11:13Speaker 2: move the fucking wall or something. But then you like
- 11:16Speaker 2: drive out of Oxford and you're like, all right, we
- 11:19Speaker 2: should fucking lock the doors.
- 11:20Speaker 1: This is kind of weird, crazy man.
- 11:24Speaker 3: What are some of the some of the best spots
- 11:25Speaker 3: you've seen since you like to go on tour wherever
- 11:28Speaker 3: you go?
- 11:29Speaker 2: I mean, honestly, like the the l s U thing
- 11:32Speaker 2: was mine bending, you know, I got I got the
- 11:36Speaker 2: Nebraska tour and saw where uh and Domican's check went.
- 11:41Speaker 5: That was nice to have to build the uh.
- 11:43Speaker 1: The House of Spears, like that weight room, Yeah, the
- 11:45Speaker 1: weight rooms. When did you go.
- 11:48Speaker 5: Two years two years ago?
- 11:50Speaker 1: I think, yeah, we're there. At that time, I heard
- 11:55Speaker 1: some cool stories about him, about us.
- 12:00Speaker 5: Fuck yeah, they were like, no, he's fucking crazier than
- 12:03Speaker 5: you think.
- 12:04Speaker 4: Let's hear a couple.
- 12:05Speaker 5: I don't even know if I should tell these stories.
- 12:07Speaker 4: I could, I could possibly confirm or deny that.
- 12:10Speaker 5: It's like a real psychopath playing like you're like, this
- 12:14Speaker 5: guy's crazy, Like no, this guy is crazy.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's not like definitely in between the white lines,
- 12:19Speaker 3: but not not off the field.
- 12:21Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 12:22Speaker 1: But what was that story you told about getting up
- 12:24Speaker 1: ride to the airport or something and you thought he
- 12:26Speaker 1: was gonna beat the ship out of you.
- 12:28Speaker 3: Yeah, he said like I'll pull the car over and
- 12:30Speaker 3: fucking stomp on you because but you're in a car. Yeah,
- 12:34Speaker 3: we were having a lunch somewhere, and then when we
- 12:37Speaker 3: were driving him to the airport, I built up that
- 12:40Speaker 3: I mustered up the courage to bring up him stomping
- 12:42Speaker 3: on Aaron Rodgers. I was like, you're gonna so you
- 12:45Speaker 3: were gonna say that the man upstairs is what happened,
- 12:47Speaker 3: but you clearly stomped on twelve.
- 12:49Speaker 1: And He's like, we can pull the car over now and.
- 12:53Speaker 5: I'll stop.
- 12:54Speaker 4: I'll stomp your hass out. But you know, that's just
- 12:56Speaker 4: fun play.
- 12:58Speaker 1: He's not a psychopath at all.
- 13:00Speaker 4: No, not at all.
- 13:01Speaker 1: That's just fun.
- 13:01Speaker 4: That's just us being us being dudes.
- 13:03Speaker 2: It was all all the stories I heard were like
- 13:06Speaker 2: atra because obviously, like everybody's more aware of the NFL
- 13:10Speaker 2: stuff on tape. Yeah, hey, let's let's watch a compilation
- 13:15Speaker 2: of Sue trying to kill people.
- 13:19Speaker 1: You're like, this is fucking nuts, crazy.
- 13:21Speaker 2: And like for a guy that big, that strong, and
- 13:24Speaker 2: that upset bro.
- 13:27Speaker 3: And he never got tired in any of the workouts,
- 13:29Speaker 3: it was truly unfucking real. And even when they say
- 13:33Speaker 3: like at Tampa because Sue went to Tampa to Miami. No, no,
- 13:38Speaker 3: he also he also played Yeah, he played at Miami too, but.
- 13:40Speaker 8: When he played for Tampa, multiple stops a great Miami
- 13:44Speaker 8: Tampa right right, But when he was at Tampa and
- 13:47Speaker 8: I was talking to Levante David, who is an unreal linebacker,
- 13:51Speaker 8: but I was like, Yo, what's that.
- 13:52Speaker 3: What's Sue like in the locker rooms now? Because we're
- 13:54Speaker 3: all kind of like around the same kind of generation.
- 13:56Speaker 3: And he's like, like, Sue's one of the savviest businessmen,
- 13:59Speaker 3: like in the NFL, like in between meetings, right after practice,
- 14:02Speaker 3: in between all this stuff. He's like on conference calls,
- 14:06Speaker 3: like handling meetings like Warren Buffett is like in his council.
- 14:10Speaker 4: It's insane. Like the dude is super impressive.
- 14:12Speaker 3: He had an engineering degree at Nebraska, but an absolute,
- 14:15Speaker 3: to your point, an absolute psychle path on the field,
- 14:17Speaker 3: Like we were at Baylor and he got a he
- 14:21Speaker 3: got a penalty for tackling the quarterback too hard. This
- 14:23Speaker 3: was before all the protecting the quarterback stuff count because
- 14:25Speaker 3: he essentially like choke slam the Baylor quarterback.
- 14:29Speaker 1: It was insane.
- 14:29Speaker 3: The ocoy said he was puking up blood after the
- 14:32Speaker 3: big twelve championship because.
- 14:33Speaker 2: He there's a couple of stories that I honestly would
- 14:35Speaker 2: tell you. I'll tell you off. I really don't feel
- 14:37Speaker 2: like I should tell you. There's the one that I
- 14:41Speaker 2: think it's fun to tell that I heard when I
- 14:43Speaker 2: was there. It was like, how you know they do
- 14:45Speaker 2: this thing? It's so fucking weird that when there's bowl games,
- 14:48Speaker 2: they're like, why don't you guys like have dinner together
- 14:50Speaker 2: the night before, like right like you're having like you're
- 14:53Speaker 2: playing Texas in a bowl game.
- 14:55Speaker 5: They're like, how about both teams have dinner? Put you
- 14:58Speaker 5: in a banquet hall, the banquet petition what? Yeah, Even
- 15:01Speaker 5: when you're watching it from you're like, why are they
- 15:03Speaker 5: having dinner?
- 15:04Speaker 2: And then like they're everybody's like a table away. So
- 15:07Speaker 2: I guess when for the bowl game that year it
- 15:11Speaker 2: was Nebraska. I forget who maybe Kansas is Kansas State
- 15:15Speaker 2: or something.
- 15:15Speaker 4: We played when SUSI Clemson and Arizona.
- 15:19Speaker 5: May So there's some bowl guy. Let's just say it's Arizona.
- 15:23Speaker 2: So then they go all right, and he's having his
- 15:26Speaker 2: monster year right like like he's having a unstoppable He's
- 15:30Speaker 2: getting every award.
- 15:31Speaker 5: So they're at the like the.
- 15:33Speaker 2: ESPN people come to like dinner and they're like, how's
- 15:37Speaker 2: the chicken, and they're asking everybody stupid shit. And then
- 15:40Speaker 2: they ask the the center for like let's say Arizona, like, oh,
- 15:45Speaker 2: you have to face in DOMINICANSU tomorrow and he's he's
- 15:48Speaker 2: won every award for defensive Player of the year. How
- 15:51Speaker 2: do you feel about that? And he goes, I'm not
- 15:53Speaker 2: that worried about it, and he said they when I
- 15:56Speaker 2: heard the story, they said that all the Nebraska guys,
- 16:00Speaker 2: they were right because they were all sitting together. They
- 16:02Speaker 2: just went like like they just leaned forward and they're like,
- 16:05Speaker 2: oh shit, and they saw Sue just like okay, like
- 16:10Speaker 2: and they're they're like, we already knew, like right then
- 16:12Speaker 2: that it was gonna be a problem. And he goes
- 16:16Speaker 2: in the game. In the game, Sue picked him up
- 16:20Speaker 2: like like basically over his head and threw him headfirst
- 16:24Speaker 2: down onto his head onto the center and like he
- 16:28Speaker 2: had a neck injury and left the game.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I mean, I was like, God, so like it was
- 16:38Speaker 1: all By the time I got in the league, Sue
- 16:40Speaker 1: was out of Detroit and he was in Miami or whatever.
- 16:42Speaker 1: We played Miami, like two or three years in Miami
- 16:45Speaker 1: and they're like, uh, there's all be always like older,
- 16:48Speaker 1: savvy off. It's a lineman there, and they'd be like,
- 16:50Speaker 1: whatever you do, do not talk to Sue. Don't talk
- 16:53Speaker 1: And I was, yeah, like my rookie year and stuff
- 16:56Speaker 1: like that was really mouthfee and I would I would
- 16:57Speaker 1: talk to you know, try to talk shit to everybody. Yeah,
- 17:00Speaker 1: And then I tried to talk ship to Sue and
- 17:02Speaker 1: he kind of looked at me in the center in
- 17:03Speaker 1: the huddle, grabbed me by the collar and told me
- 17:05Speaker 1: to shut the fuck up because I don't have to
- 17:07Speaker 1: deal with him. He's like, shut the fuck up. You
- 17:09Speaker 1: do not do not talk to him anymore. And I
- 17:10Speaker 1: was like, okay, wow enough he was like a three
- 17:13Speaker 1: year I think with Brian Schwenky, I was like it
- 17:17Speaker 1: was like there are those guys in the league that
- 17:19Speaker 1: when they get a little older, they become a little
- 17:21Speaker 1: bit more mellow. And I think Sue he signed a
- 17:23Speaker 1: massive deal, one hundred million dollars deal at that point.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Then it was like, just don't do it provoking, don't
- 17:28Speaker 1: provoke them, don't poke the bear. If you poke the bear,
- 17:31Speaker 1: Bear's gonna eat you. Be like Cocaine Bear wanted to
- 17:33Speaker 1: be done. Yeah, you'll be fucking done.
- 17:34Speaker 5: What was your ship talking? Like, like where you just like.
- 17:36Speaker 1: My my shit talking baried in a lot of different ways.
- 17:38Speaker 1: I'd hit I hit up with the classic like you
- 17:41Speaker 1: know you're a pushy that type of stuff. But then
- 17:44Speaker 1: there'd be times like the NFL is a super like
- 17:46Speaker 1: it can be homophobic a lot of guys. We don't
- 17:48Speaker 1: play that ship in the locker room, so some dude
- 17:51Speaker 1: be mouthing off to me. We were playing the Jags
- 17:52Speaker 1: one time. It was squere switching quarters, so like we're
- 17:54Speaker 1: like walking in the middle of the field because we're
- 17:56Speaker 1: like on the thirty yard line swift with the opposite
- 17:58Speaker 1: thirty yards. Yeah, and one defensive lineman the three technique.
- 18:02Speaker 1: He's walking behind me like I'm here all day, blah blah,
- 18:04Speaker 1: you can't block me. And I turned around. I'm like, bro,
- 18:06Speaker 1: you listen if that, if you don't stop talking, I'm
- 18:09Speaker 1: gonna suck your dick and our center comes out of
- 18:11Speaker 1: nowhere unprovoked. He goes and we swallow here too, and
- 18:14Speaker 1: the rest of the game. He was like, what the
- 18:17Speaker 1: fuck you just yeah, if you just say super gay things.
- 18:21Speaker 1: The NFL players, Like I've had other players like go
- 18:23Speaker 1: from like the Raiders to the Titans be like, Hey,
- 18:26Speaker 1: what's up with seventy seven? Is he actually gay? Like
- 18:29Speaker 1: what's what's the deal? Like that's it's a mind game. Yeah.
- 18:33Speaker 3: When I was at the Raiders, was like, hey, so
- 18:34Speaker 3: what's up with your Uh, what's up with your boys?
- 18:36Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just that's my guy. This is my guys.
- 18:39Speaker 3: I'm more of like I champion everybody. I tell everybody
- 18:41Speaker 3: it was a solid route. That was good, that was
- 18:43Speaker 3: good because I want you.
- 18:44Speaker 4: That's I need as much as I can to, Like,
- 18:46Speaker 4: I got.
- 18:46Speaker 2: A sneaky I've told the story before. I played in
- 18:49Speaker 2: high school against Heath Evans. He was a fullback for
- 18:52Speaker 2: like ten seasons in the NFL. He went to a
- 18:54Speaker 2: really we played at small schools in Florida, and uh,
- 18:58Speaker 2: I mean it was he was obviously different than like
- 19:01Speaker 2: the average person you played against. It in high school,
- 19:05Speaker 2: You're like, what in the fuck. It's like hitting a
- 19:06Speaker 2: bank door, you know, like like every time you're like, god, damn.
- 19:10Speaker 2: I mean he was just like he was built different.
- 19:12Speaker 2: He was clearly gonna move on. And but so he
- 19:16Speaker 2: played at a school that like they were terrible. He
- 19:19Speaker 2: was the star player at a terrible school. Like that
- 19:23Speaker 2: we would beat them, but he would still he would play.
- 19:26Speaker 2: He played with like running back and linebackers, so he
- 19:28Speaker 2: was still have like eighteen tackles in two hundred and
- 19:31Speaker 2: thirty yards, right, but they would lose. But every single
- 19:35Speaker 2: time you if you tackled them, I mean it would
- 19:37Speaker 2: it would it take the whole team. He'd be like
- 19:39Speaker 2: that was a great tackle. And you'd be like what
- 19:41Speaker 2: and like we were so not you know, like like
- 19:42Speaker 2: who does this sounds? And he would like he would
- 19:44Speaker 2: pat us on the back. He's like, great effort. I
- 19:46Speaker 2: was like, shut the fuck up, man. He would do it.
- 19:48Speaker 2: It wasn't even for like a series, it was the
- 19:53Speaker 2: entire game.
- 19:53Speaker 5: Great effort, great block, you did a good job.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:57Speaker 5: Every time you're like what do you do? And then
- 19:59Speaker 5: and he's actually he was religious.
- 20:00Speaker 2: So he would say like God, like God bless and
- 20:03Speaker 2: like do prayer stuff, And I was like is this,
- 20:07Speaker 2: Like are you fucking with me?
- 20:09Speaker 1: The funniest thing we talk about, like religion and football,
- 20:12Speaker 1: which is so many religious guys, so many religious guys,
- 20:14Speaker 1: But in the locker room after warm ups, they'll be
- 20:18Speaker 1: rap music going on about eating, pushing, getting money and
- 20:21Speaker 1: doing drugs, and then then it'll cut and it'll be
- 20:24Speaker 1: like all right, prayer in the shower and everyone be
- 20:25Speaker 1: like walking the shower and hold hands. Then as soon
- 20:27Speaker 1: as they walk back out, press play back the fucking
- 20:30Speaker 1: bitches getting money and all that stuff, and you're like, hey,
- 20:33Speaker 1: does no one see this?
- 20:35Speaker 2: And the NFL would never allow, like never allow their
- 20:38Speaker 2: ship talking to air, Yeah, because they'll release, you know,
- 20:41Speaker 2: the miked up stuff but it's all edited and cut. Yeah,
- 20:44Speaker 2: that would be such a fucking dream. I always said
- 20:46Speaker 2: I would pay it like a thousand dollars like season pass.
- 20:50Speaker 2: But oh, we can hear the guys on that be like, hey,
- 20:52Speaker 2: I'm gays, come suck the stick and yellow.
- 20:55Speaker 1: I'd be like, all the best money, the best bet
- 20:57Speaker 1: money you've ever had.
- 20:58Speaker 3: And there's some great talkers out there, I mean DJ Sweringer.
- 21:01Speaker 3: We talk about him from Swag game Cocks, Like, what.
- 21:05Speaker 1: What was it?
- 21:05Speaker 3: Was it you telling the story about him during the
- 21:07Speaker 3: Outback Bowl. Yeah, the Outback Bowl pre game and all that.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Returners are catching footballs and he pushed one of the
- 21:13Speaker 1: returners out of the way, caught one of our footballs
- 21:15Speaker 1: and kicked it into the stands. This is that Tampa
- 21:16Speaker 1: Bay Stadium for a bowl game. And he goes, this
- 21:18Speaker 1: is my fucking house, Get the fuck out of here.
- 21:20Speaker 1: And I'm in the locker room just warming up in
- 21:22Speaker 1: this little white returner Drew Diilio. Shout out, Drewdilio. He
- 21:25Speaker 1: comes in hot mad and sure enough it was Swago.
- 21:28Speaker 1: That dude was spoons swag. He is different now, he
- 21:32Speaker 1: was a different cat. Whoa. Dudes are just like that,
- 21:34Speaker 1: though some guys it varies. Man, Some dudes don't do
- 21:38Speaker 1: not say a word. Some guys are super positive, some
- 21:40Speaker 1: guys are super negative. It's like you never know who
- 21:42Speaker 1: you're gonna get. Yeah, just never know. And it's how
- 21:44Speaker 1: I mean, I think.
- 21:45Speaker 2: I think it is how the the stress of competition
- 21:50Speaker 2: and what you're about to do affects everyone differently. So
- 21:53Speaker 2: for some people to perform in in that environment, it's hey,
- 21:57Speaker 2: shut down, don't say a word. For some it's like this,
- 22:00Speaker 2: The the stress of it makes them chirp a lot.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Some of them like I'm gonna stay like it's that's
- 22:06Speaker 2: why you just don't know what you're gonna get. But
- 22:07Speaker 2: it's like it's like the stress of the.
- 22:09Speaker 5: Unknown, like the unknown of battle, right, Like yeah, like
- 22:12Speaker 5: you don't know what's gonna happen, and that it manifests
- 22:14Speaker 5: itself differently through everybody. Like I mean, I seen guys
- 22:18Speaker 5: who were like incredible athletes, incredible athletes shut down quite
- 22:23Speaker 5: like right, not talk. They're like, my game does all
- 22:27Speaker 5: my talk, you know what I mean.
- 22:28Speaker 4: Yeah, that's like a Rex burkhead. Like when Rex was
- 22:31Speaker 4: at Nebraska.
- 22:32Speaker 3: He was just a baller, but the dude was like,
- 22:34Speaker 3: you know, just head down, yeah, hand the ball, the ref.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Do his thing, and then when that guy does say something,
- 22:39Speaker 2: it's so powerful.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:41Speaker 5: Yeah, we had a get Oh. We had a kid
- 22:42Speaker 5: in high.
- 22:43Speaker 2: School on our high school team who won the one
- 22:45Speaker 2: hundred and two hundred meter track state championship. This kid
- 22:49Speaker 2: is legit fast as fuck. I mean, he's the one
- 22:52Speaker 2: hundred meter champion in Florida and he's our punt returner
- 22:57Speaker 2: and corner.
- 22:57Speaker 5: He's five to seven.
- 22:59Speaker 2: He ended up playing it Citadel a corner at Citadel,
- 23:02Speaker 2: But like he's five seven, one hundred and sixty pounds
- 23:04Speaker 2: and looks like a fucking like a bodybuilder.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Like a Tyreek Hill type.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Yeah, dude, like and you're I mean, and you're in
- 23:10Speaker 2: high school and you're like, this guy is fucking this
- 23:12Speaker 2: is insane, like his how talented he is, and he
- 23:15Speaker 2: was super religious, and they would he was a workhorse,
- 23:20Speaker 2: like he won games, you know what I mean, Like
- 23:22Speaker 2: there's games we definitely would have lost that like he
- 23:24Speaker 2: took a punt back kick off just and people, you know,
- 23:28Speaker 2: when we played teams.
- 23:29Speaker 5: With like those badass dudes would talk match.
- 23:32Speaker 2: It and he would always always just hand the ball
- 23:35Speaker 2: of the ref, never say anything. And then one time
- 23:37Speaker 2: we played these punk mother like these guys that were
- 23:40Speaker 2: such fucking dirty shit bags, and when they tried to
- 23:44Speaker 2: hurt him, and he popped up when he was you
- 23:46Speaker 2: could suck on my left nut to this kid, and
- 23:48Speaker 2: we were all like, oh shit, like.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Like Jay says that shit, like we just could. We
- 23:52Speaker 1: couldn't believe it.
- 23:53Speaker 2: But like everybody for like a week, we're just like
- 23:57Speaker 2: going to practice, We're like.
- 23:58Speaker 5: Suck on my left nut. He's like, ah, I was
- 23:59Speaker 5: just you know, y in.
- 24:00Speaker 1: The moment apologize for the game. Yeah, I spoke out
- 24:03Speaker 1: during that drive.
- 24:04Speaker 3: I think it's insane how dudes can talk shit and
- 24:06Speaker 3: play at a high level because I'm thinking, like my
- 24:08Speaker 3: conditioning can't take all that. Like I'm just trying to
- 24:11Speaker 3: get back to the huddle, relay the play. I'm thinking,
- 24:13Speaker 3: how these dudes just run.
- 24:15Speaker 1: I have so much responsibility as a lineback with the
- 24:16Speaker 1: green dot.
- 24:17Speaker 3: Yeah, like and I you know, you just like subtle
- 24:19Speaker 3: jokes out there. It's like, you know, I can't remember,
- 24:22Speaker 3: but the first time we played, I know, like we
- 24:23Speaker 3: tapped helmets. But if I'm like tapping a white guy
- 24:25Speaker 3: out there on the ass, and hey, I can't believe
- 24:27Speaker 3: we're out here?
- 24:27Speaker 1: Am I right? Yeah? We get back. I remember Greg Olsen.
- 24:31Speaker 3: I've told the story before, but Greg Olsen, I finally
- 24:33Speaker 3: had my opportunity to start. It was like my second
- 24:36Speaker 3: or third game starting, I believe. And I remember breaking
- 24:39Speaker 3: up a pass over the middle. He just you know,
- 24:40Speaker 3: buttoned up over the middle, and I broke it up
- 24:42Speaker 3: and did the little you know, I did the little
- 24:44Speaker 3: incomplete thing, and then I webbed him like Spider Man.
- 24:46Speaker 3: He goes, who the fuck are you? What are you
- 24:47Speaker 3: like third string? And I was like, hey, I worked
- 24:49Speaker 3: for this spot, man, I work for this spot. And
- 24:52Speaker 3: then like during the time out, he comes over, he
- 24:54Speaker 3: like task me on the helmet and he's like, hey man,
- 24:56Speaker 3: I'm really sorry for saying that.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Like I know you work hard, I know this and that.
- 24:58Speaker 4: No shit, it's all good.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Bro, that's so good.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that is like, like, fuck, that's actually impressive to like,
- 25:05Speaker 2: hey man, I respect you, you know what I mean.
- 25:09Speaker 5: Absolutely if I hurt you in an emotional way, Adam.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Yeah, the weirdest thing is playing against people that you've
- 25:15Speaker 1: been you grew up watching. Yeah, Like we played The
- 25:18Speaker 1: Raiders my second or third year and Charles Woodson was there,
- 25:21Speaker 1: and I remember we're like on a timeout. I'm like, hey, dude,
- 25:23Speaker 1: like you're fucking awesome, and it was so weird just
- 25:25Speaker 1: to say and he's like thanks, young blood, preciate that.
- 25:27Speaker 1: All right. Yeah, I'm like, I get the fuck out
- 25:30Speaker 1: of here. Back to that. Yeah, you're like, hell, he's like,
- 25:32Speaker 1: I'm forty two. You're like you're forty two years old.
- 25:34Speaker 1: It's crazy. It's crazy.
- 25:36Speaker 5: Yeah, And like I don't know if that's like because
- 25:39Speaker 5: you hear stories, but like there were the stories about
- 25:41Speaker 5: Woodson that people said they're like, yeah, he just like
- 25:46Speaker 5: is that like he's not killing himself in the weight
- 25:49Speaker 5: room or like he's just that's good than everybody.
- 25:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I already was like an absolute you know, study.
- 25:57Speaker 4: He was all about it, like the film room and
- 25:58Speaker 4: everything else.
- 25:59Speaker 2: That's the thing that impresses me the most when I
- 26:02Speaker 2: watch like these pieces on players, because you just as
- 26:05Speaker 2: a as a spectator, you just go like, oh, this
- 26:08Speaker 2: is like a super gifted athlete we've seen, like you
- 26:10Speaker 2: see athletes and you're like, wow, this guy's so just
- 26:14Speaker 2: blessed right with his like physical abilities. Is that when
- 26:17Speaker 2: you hear how committed some people are to studying shit,
- 26:21Speaker 2: you're like, oh, that that's why they're great, Like they
- 26:24Speaker 2: are gifted, right, But the dedication is other level.
- 26:28Speaker 3: That's what keeps people in the league for a while too,
- 26:30Speaker 3: is just the ability to play from the neck up
- 26:32Speaker 3: and everything else, because your body ends up breaking down,
- 26:34Speaker 3: Like yeah, you got to stay on top of your
- 26:35Speaker 3: body and everything else. Oh, you gotta stay on top
- 26:38Speaker 3: of your body and everything else. But that is like,
- 26:39Speaker 3: that's short of the majority of the league. The guys
- 26:41Speaker 3: that like stick around for a long time. You have to, like,
- 26:43Speaker 3: I love this shit. You have to be if you're
- 26:45Speaker 3: not a starter, if you're not out there on the field,
- 26:47Speaker 3: you have to be like just a dependable backup and
- 26:49Speaker 3: somebody like in my position and then like play special teams. Yeah,
- 26:53Speaker 3: but yeah, you always hear the stories about like some
- 26:55Speaker 3: of the greats that people come from, players that come
- 26:58Speaker 3: from other teams, and they're coming on your team and
- 27:00Speaker 3: they're telling you about these guys that you look up
- 27:01Speaker 3: to on other teams, and they're like, man, so and
- 27:03Speaker 3: so is in the you know, in the building doesn't
- 27:05Speaker 3: leave till like seven or eight at night and everything,
- 27:07Speaker 3: and you're just kind of like fascinated by it.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Tony Gonzalez told me this thing that I thought was
- 27:12Speaker 2: such a cool, like little insight. So he played like
- 27:14Speaker 2: what seventeen seasons a tight end.
- 27:17Speaker 5: It's fucking insane.
- 27:19Speaker 2: And he's like, you know, I'm asking him like that
- 27:21Speaker 2: because he's like fine, Like he just walks around. You're
- 27:23Speaker 2: like you're okay, and he's like, well, he goes. You know,
- 27:27Speaker 2: I figured out that like if I caught a ball
- 27:31Speaker 2: and I see the guy coming right here and I'm
- 27:33Speaker 2: on the sideline, and I just like, you know, cover
- 27:36Speaker 2: up if he's coming this way, I'll just start to
- 27:40Speaker 2: fall the way you know with the hit.
- 27:43Speaker 5: Yeah, he goes, so a lot of times you would.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Hear like ooh, like because it would look like I
- 27:47Speaker 2: got blown up. He's like, I was already going in
- 27:51Speaker 2: that direction, so that so that the hit wouldn't have
- 27:55Speaker 2: the same level of impact, right, Because if I lean,
- 27:58Speaker 2: I'm gonna fucking lean into him, it's gonna be up.
- 28:00Speaker 2: We're gonna hit and I'm gonna feel it more. But
- 28:02Speaker 2: if I know I'm about to get hit this way
- 28:04Speaker 2: and I lean that way, He's like, it's less impact.
- 28:07Speaker 2: And I was like, oh, that's fucking fat because like
- 28:09Speaker 2: most people, or a lot of people I guess, would go, no, no,
- 28:12Speaker 2: I'm gonna like, I'm gonna put my shoulder into this shit.
- 28:14Speaker 5: And he was like no no. I was like, I'm
- 28:15Speaker 5: trying to minimize the damage. He's like, I'm doing that
- 28:18Speaker 5: for like twelve of the seasons I play.
- 28:21Speaker 1: Did the ability to displace ego that's a big displacement
- 28:24Speaker 1: of you. Yeah, if you're a lot of guys are like,
- 28:26Speaker 1: I'm gonna try to show how hard I can run this,
- 28:28Speaker 1: and then as you get older, you learn like, hey,
- 28:29Speaker 1: this isn't forever. How can I make this as long
- 28:32Speaker 1: as possible? Sounds like fucking did.
- 28:34Speaker 2: It yeah, dude, I saw Stefan Diggs shoulder pads and
- 28:39Speaker 2: they look like paper plates, and I was like, how
- 28:42Speaker 2: the fuck?
- 28:42Speaker 5: And the guy's like five seven.
- 28:44Speaker 2: Or something and they're just like yeah, but like when
- 28:48Speaker 2: he sees the guy, he just like scoots down.
- 28:50Speaker 3: I mean, remember, uh, what's his day? Is Michael Bennett
- 28:53Speaker 3: the d tackle for the Seahawks or the d ND.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 28:56Speaker 4: Remember he basically the wore like nothing. Yeah, he would
- 28:58Speaker 4: come out there.
- 28:59Speaker 1: There's like a one big shoulder pad and then a
- 29:01Speaker 1: shoulder pad of one here he cut those off and
- 29:02Speaker 1: tuck his jersey in. Yeah, where the baggiest jersey and shit.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Yeah, this is something I completely don't understand, is like
- 29:09Speaker 2: how you got Like when you start watching and you know,
- 29:12Speaker 2: like you play in high school and you're all paded up,
- 29:15Speaker 2: and then you see college and then you see NFL
- 29:17Speaker 2: guys and you're like, are there no leg pads? Like
- 29:20Speaker 2: doesn't everyone aren't everyone's legs fucking hurting? Like just just
- 29:23Speaker 2: like just the pants on. You're like, there's no thigh
- 29:25Speaker 2: pads anymore.
- 29:26Speaker 1: It's like it's kind of pads hipads kind of go
- 29:29Speaker 1: away in college.
- 29:30Speaker 4: Yeah, college you have like the girdles or whatever.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Yeah, and then you kind of just go to a
- 29:35Speaker 1: girdle or something that can with like the most small
- 29:38Speaker 1: pad just to see like you're just making sure you
- 29:40Speaker 1: don't get in trouble, like you're wearing the right appropriate attire,
- 29:43Speaker 1: and then eventually to stop like really wearing anything.
- 29:46Speaker 5: That's really crazy though.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Yeah, it's crazy because you're you're you're shedding things as
- 29:51Speaker 2: competition gets higher and as everyone is bigger, faster and strong,
- 29:55Speaker 2: you're like, I just fucking.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Let it go.
- 29:56Speaker 3: But also more you know, I know a lot of people,
- 30:00Speaker 3: it's like you want to where you want to be
- 30:01Speaker 3: like as light as possible because the game gets faster
- 30:03Speaker 3: at every level and everything else. So you're trying to
- 30:06Speaker 3: feel as free as possible while also like trying.
- 30:08Speaker 1: To be a little bit protected. And I think it
- 30:11Speaker 1: plays into looking better too. Pads.
- 30:15Speaker 5: It's like it's not all about looking, it's not.
- 30:18Speaker 1: All about you know what I mean, you want to
- 30:20Speaker 1: I mean you see the guys, we all got the
- 30:21Speaker 1: socks low high. Yeah, little things on there, like they're
- 30:24Speaker 1: like there are dudes in there hours before the game
- 30:27Speaker 1: getting their little ship right, the little black stuff. Yeah,
- 30:30Speaker 1: oh yeah they do a whole bunch.
- 30:31Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 30:32Speaker 3: Anytime you get a comment like, hey, com come on, man,
- 30:33Speaker 3: you gotta do a little bit better than that, you're
- 30:35Speaker 3: just thinking.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Probably the worst trip he gets all day. Like you're
- 30:38Speaker 1: just like, man, they're kind of killing like you kind
- 30:40Speaker 1: of want to look good. You want to look like
- 30:41Speaker 1: you do something. Yeah, like a dark visor. I wore
- 30:43Speaker 1: a yes, the best looking, the best looking piece of
- 30:47Speaker 1: attire in the end. Those are tight.
- 30:48Speaker 2: And they used to have like in the nineties they
- 30:51Speaker 2: had like the orange, like the reflective goals.
- 30:55Speaker 4: Yeah, I know.
- 30:58Speaker 2: You see a linebacker over the middle just like this,
- 31:01Speaker 2: and he looks like a he looks like a terminator
- 31:03Speaker 2: or something. Right, Like you just see gold reflective sheen.
- 31:07Speaker 2: You don't see eyes. You're like, ooh, this is a
- 31:09Speaker 2: badass look like that shit was.
- 31:11Speaker 3: Just picturing like a ray Lewis from my hand. Yes, dude,
- 31:14Speaker 3: with the orange and then you see the little the
- 31:16Speaker 3: little ring go down with that linebacker face mask in
- 31:19Speaker 3: the middle.
- 31:19Speaker 2: That really is swaggy like that. Those teams were, like
- 31:23Speaker 2: I remember when I was when we were in high school.
- 31:24Speaker 2: I went to the get taped up and I asked
- 31:27Speaker 2: the there was a lady that taped us. I was like,
- 31:30Speaker 2: will you give me the Bruce Smith tape? You remember
- 31:33Speaker 2: his tape? It would come over the hand like it
- 31:36Speaker 2: was like a boxer's tape. So his hand was taped
- 31:38Speaker 2: in addition to the wrist. It was like wrist and
- 31:41Speaker 2: then here and she was like no.
- 31:43Speaker 1: I was like. I was like, she's like for what
- 31:46Speaker 1: I was like, from a fucking hand?
- 31:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:48Speaker 5: I was like, I was like, Bruce Smith. She's like,
- 31:50Speaker 5: you ain't Bruce Smith.
- 31:51Speaker 1: I was like high school. High school trainers are hilarious. Yeah,
- 31:54Speaker 1: they're just like catching hours. Yeah. Yeah. They want to
- 31:56Speaker 1: tape the minimal amount of people they possibly can, of course,
- 31:59Speaker 1: but that tape goes away too. In the NFL tape
- 32:02Speaker 1: does people some people as you get older. As I
- 32:04Speaker 1: got older, at least, I stopped taping my ankles. Stop taping,
- 32:07Speaker 1: did you really? Yeah?
- 32:08Speaker 5: I always felt so much more like, yeah, learn.
- 32:12Speaker 1: About the body though you you would mobilize the ankle,
- 32:15Speaker 1: then it puts more pressure on the knee, which puts
- 32:17Speaker 1: more pressure on the hip, and then it's the back
- 32:18Speaker 1: of the really and what about up here? Though?
- 32:20Speaker 5: Nothing either I would wear.
- 32:21Speaker 1: I went from tape and I started wearing wrist guards,
- 32:23Speaker 1: so you just kind of strap them mon real fast.
- 32:25Speaker 1: And then I broke this thumb so I had to
- 32:26Speaker 1: put like a little brace on there, and then I
- 32:28Speaker 1: tape like these two fingers.
- 32:29Speaker 2: You remember everybody having tons of shit on. And then
- 32:32Speaker 2: Reggie White just was like just put the jersey on,
- 32:36Speaker 2: like just nothing, no gloves and then just take people
- 32:39Speaker 2: and go.
- 32:39Speaker 3: I always think it's badass when you see the dude
- 32:41Speaker 3: just have their like like fingers taped.
- 32:44Speaker 5: Yeah, the fingers a little bit.
- 32:46Speaker 1: I feel like I got half our guys with their
- 32:47Speaker 1: hand in the dirt. I think that ship is lame.
- 32:49Speaker 4: I'm thinking of like DB's.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Yeah, DB's got that looks hard, but like I do
- 32:53Speaker 1: with this hand in the ground and he's got his
- 32:54Speaker 1: knuckles in my bro, you ain't come on like if
- 32:57Speaker 1: you don't wear gloves, you're a psychopath. To me, I
- 33:00Speaker 1: thought of hitting somebody without gloves on.
- 33:01Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, kids, I couldn't out here.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Can you imagine him, like he would just show up
- 33:06Speaker 2: completely nothing and then take a like a three hundred
- 33:10Speaker 2: and thirty pound guy with one with that hump move
- 33:13Speaker 2: and go like this, and you see the guy like
- 33:15Speaker 2: just go falling, live flying down like he'd launch a
- 33:18Speaker 2: guy like ten yards.
- 33:19Speaker 1: There is nothing more embarrassing than getting put on the
- 33:22Speaker 1: ground like that. It has to be right unless you
- 33:24Speaker 1: just catch one in the throat. You get put on
- 33:26Speaker 1: your ass and then they make the sack and you're
- 33:28Speaker 1: just like, dude, I am nothing. What feels What feels worse.
- 33:33Speaker 2: Getting like having somebody stronger than you toss you, or
- 33:39Speaker 2: somebody so fast that they just are past you and
- 33:41Speaker 2: you're like fuck that, like they're they're back here, and
- 33:44Speaker 2: you're like, what's just happened?
- 33:46Speaker 1: Whiffing on somebody is tough, But I feel like for me,
- 33:49Speaker 1: I could always like in my mind back, can you
- 33:50Speaker 1: get change these couple of things. There's no worse feeling
- 33:53Speaker 1: than having another man's hands on you and not have
- 33:55Speaker 1: you can't do anything about it. You can't do it,
- 33:57Speaker 1: and you're just like, I guess we're just gonna go
- 33:58Speaker 1: where you want to go today. Wow. Yeah, that's a
- 34:01Speaker 1: tough feeling. That's like the worst feeling actually ever.
- 34:03Speaker 3: So it has to be too for like an old lineman,
- 34:05Speaker 3: like I just feel guys in the trenches because I
- 34:07Speaker 3: know for me, it's like you get out run or
- 34:09Speaker 3: you get beat on your feet.
- 34:10Speaker 4: I'm thinking, God damn it, they were all right, right,
- 34:12Speaker 4: you know what I mean.
- 34:14Speaker 1: Over the fucking ring cover.
- 34:16Speaker 4: One with Compton in the game.
- 34:18Speaker 3: But like if I get if I get bodied or something,
- 34:21Speaker 3: you're kind of just like fuck on the way down.
- 34:23Speaker 4: But yeah, you know, like Marshall Lenz, we always get got.
- 34:27Speaker 1: Everyone gets got.
- 34:27Speaker 3: But I feel like as an old lineman, it's got
- 34:30Speaker 3: to be the like a demoralizing thing, like you just
- 34:31Speaker 3: get manhandled in the trenches and you're like, you're a
- 34:33Speaker 3: guy in the trenches.
- 34:35Speaker 1: That has to feel. Yeah, when you stop playing football,
- 34:38Speaker 1: when did you start comedy? When was that?
- 34:40Speaker 6: Like?
- 34:40Speaker 1: When did you do that was the path? Great transition?
- 34:43Speaker 1: That's good. We've just been fucking talking. We've lowered all
- 34:48Speaker 1: I want to talk about.
- 34:50Speaker 2: I mean, so I get to college, I realize, like,
- 34:54Speaker 2: you know, I'm not. It is weird because it becomes
- 34:56Speaker 2: like you have a more of it, Like you know,
- 34:58Speaker 2: it's like your identity. You're like, oh, typically, like what
- 35:00Speaker 2: do you like? I play football in high school? You like,
- 35:02Speaker 2: I'm a football player. That's what you think you are.
- 35:04Speaker 2: And then you get to have college and you're like,
- 35:05Speaker 2: I'm not. I'm definitely like there's players going to team meetings.
- 35:09Speaker 2: I'm like, I'm ready to go. I'm like, oh, I
- 35:10Speaker 2: don't play football, and then you're just like, uh, I
- 35:14Speaker 2: don't know. I mean I loved doing comedy, so I'm
- 35:16Speaker 2: making like comedy videos, you know, but like it's not
- 35:20Speaker 2: even for there's not it's not the Internet.
- 35:22Speaker 5: It's not like like I want to share this video.
- 35:24Speaker 2: It's like they're they're like, make a video for communications class.
- 35:29Speaker 5: That's boring, Like do a do a video about like.
- 35:34Speaker 2: How how uh how the security works in the building,
- 35:39Speaker 2: like you know, do like shows that you can do
- 35:41Speaker 2: like a transition shot, and then I would make mine
- 35:44Speaker 2: like a comedic version of it, you know, and then
- 35:47Speaker 2: they were.
- 35:47Speaker 5: Like the teacher like the fuck is this right?
- 35:49Speaker 2: Like because I was trying to make it funny, right,
- 35:53Speaker 2: And then I the more you do that, the more
- 35:55Speaker 2: you like.
- 35:55Speaker 5: I like this.
- 35:56Speaker 2: I like this right, So you're I keep making like
- 35:59Speaker 2: comedy esque sketches, but like for assignments. And then when
- 36:06Speaker 2: I finally get out of college, I get out in
- 36:11Speaker 2: two thousand and one, I graduate and then yeah, in
- 36:16Speaker 2: June of two thousand and one, and then I moved
- 36:18Speaker 2: to La January two thousand and two, Like I actually
- 36:22Speaker 2: I remember that I arrive in La January two thousand
- 36:26Speaker 2: and two on the day that it's a bowl game.
- 36:31Speaker 2: It's Ohio State Miami is playing in that like a
- 36:34Speaker 2: big time bowl game. And then I start doing I
- 36:39Speaker 2: start going to improv classes at the Groundlings, which is
- 36:42Speaker 2: like this renowned place where a lot of SNL people
- 36:45Speaker 2: have come from. I start doing that in like April
- 36:48Speaker 2: of two thousand and two, and I have guys that
- 36:51Speaker 2: are in the class that are like, you should try
- 36:52Speaker 2: stand up. Like they're just telling me, like, you should
- 36:54Speaker 2: try stand up. You would like stand up. I was
- 36:56Speaker 2: like all right, because they did stand up, And then
- 36:58Speaker 2: a couple of them were like because I was like,
- 37:01Speaker 2: what do you do? Like, I mean, I've seen stand up,
- 37:04Speaker 2: but like how do you start? So I kind of
- 37:06Speaker 2: tail them. They're like, just watch me, I'm gonna do
- 37:09Speaker 2: spots tonight. So they go and do like a spot here,
- 37:11Speaker 2: a spot there. I just follow them around and then
- 37:14Speaker 2: one of them walks me into a place and like
- 37:18Speaker 2: when they when the lady is like, oh, what's up
- 37:20Speaker 2: to this guy? Nick, He's like, this is Tom He's
- 37:23Speaker 2: a comic. And I'm like what's up? And she was like, oh,
- 37:27Speaker 2: do you want to do like I have like an
- 37:28Speaker 2: opening next Saturday. Do you want to do that spot?
- 37:31Speaker 2: And I was like.
- 37:33Speaker 5: Yeah, oh shit, and then she's like all right, You're booked.
- 37:35Speaker 5: And then it's just kind of and then I was like,
- 37:37Speaker 5: I'm doing a spot next Saturday, like I've never written
- 37:39Speaker 5: material or and so then it was just it was
- 37:42Speaker 5: just on from like once I did it, it is
- 37:44Speaker 5: that like addictive.
- 37:45Speaker 2: Are you either going to be like I'm not doing
- 37:47Speaker 2: that again or like I got to do that again?
- 37:49Speaker 2: And it was just like that. So that was two
- 37:51Speaker 2: thousand and two, and then it was just a slow
- 37:54Speaker 2: you know. I used to do like one spot like
- 37:59Speaker 2: every two months, and I'd be like, yeah, I've been
- 38:00Speaker 2: doing like doing some stand up, thinking that that's a lot.
- 38:04Speaker 2: I mean, I used didn't know, like you have no
- 38:06Speaker 2: kind of frame of reference for it, and the big
- 38:09Speaker 2: clubs seem like so intimidating, so I would just do
- 38:11Speaker 2: like smaller shows, you know, like someone would be like
- 38:14Speaker 2: come to this bar and do a show, and I
- 38:15Speaker 2: was I was kind of like scared to go into
- 38:17Speaker 2: the clubs. And then it just kind of just you know,
- 38:20Speaker 2: slow progression like grew from there.
- 38:23Speaker 3: Yeah, when did it, like your first big break come
- 38:25Speaker 3: with like breaking into the scene.
- 38:27Speaker 2: Well, I I mean one of my friends was actually
- 38:31Speaker 2: working for Jay Moore and Jay and he recommended me
- 38:36Speaker 2: to be an opener and Jay let me do some opening.
- 38:40Speaker 2: So that was definitely a break because the improvs like
- 38:44Speaker 2: that own so many clubs they before Jay. I was like,
- 38:50Speaker 2: can I, you know, work here, and they gave me
- 38:53Speaker 2: a showcase. I always tease the guy now when I
- 38:55Speaker 2: whenever I see him. His name is Matt Coman. I go,
- 38:59Speaker 2: I got upstated I had a good set, like you
- 39:00Speaker 2: know when you have like there's no like you can
- 39:03Speaker 2: be delusional. But I'm like, I know when I don't
- 39:06Speaker 2: do well, and I did well, and I was like,
- 39:09Speaker 2: what's up? He goes, you definitely have something, like just
- 39:11Speaker 2: keep at it. I was like, and that was it,
- 39:13Speaker 2: Like he wouldn't get I was like, I have something, yeah,
- 39:16Speaker 2: and he was like, yeah, just keep at it, and
- 39:18Speaker 2: I'm like okay, and he didn't book me. But then
- 39:20Speaker 2: when Jay requested me to open, then they were like,
- 39:24Speaker 2: now you can do spots, you know what I mean,
- 39:27Speaker 2: Like he gave the green light and then they were like,
- 39:30Speaker 2: now you can do spots. So that was a that
- 39:32Speaker 2: was a big deal because then I could work more regularly,
- 39:36Speaker 2: get on stage more.
- 39:37Speaker 1: So that was one.
- 39:38Speaker 2: I did a couple of things on Comedy Central when
- 39:41Speaker 2: people actually watched Comedy Central and like there was a stand.
- 39:45Speaker 1: Upon there.
- 39:47Speaker 4: Or whatever.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Yeah, that was I thought that was actually for some
- 39:50Speaker 2: people that changed their careers. It was called Comedy Central Presents, yeah,
- 39:55Speaker 2: and that was that was actually the goal, right, Like
- 40:00Speaker 2: the goal was to get because everybody who you fucking
- 40:04Speaker 2: admired had done Comedy Central Presents, so like I just
- 40:07Speaker 2: kept I mean, that's all I wanted to do.
- 40:10Speaker 1: So I did.
- 40:10Speaker 2: I did one of their shows. It was called Live
- 40:12Speaker 2: at Gotham. That was used to be called Premium Blend,
- 40:16Speaker 2: and then they made a new version called Live at Gotham.
- 40:18Speaker 2: It was here at the Gotham Comedy Club in New York.
- 40:21Speaker 5: I did that show that was supposed to be like
- 40:23Speaker 5: the precursor to like getting it present. So then you
- 40:26Speaker 5: would submit what you do is you send in fucking
- 40:29Speaker 5: tape or DVD shit, yeah, and you'd be like, here's
- 40:32Speaker 5: my thirty minute set, and then the lady was like,
- 40:36Speaker 5: you know, you're gonna get one, but not this year,
- 40:38Speaker 5: and you're like all right, so you'd work a whole
- 40:39Speaker 5: other year, send in another set and she's like this
- 40:43Speaker 5: is really good, not this year, like fuck. And then
- 40:47Speaker 5: the third year I got it, and then I remember
- 40:50Speaker 5: I had I had a good Presents because some people
- 40:54Speaker 5: like it's one of those things where like it's like
- 40:57Speaker 5: having like a bad combine outing, you know, like you
- 40:59Speaker 5: go fuck, like I don't know, I.
- 41:02Speaker 2: Just didn't run well, I didn't. I didn't I threw
- 41:04Speaker 2: up two twenty five eight times, like this sucks. That
- 41:07Speaker 2: happens to people, yeah, and they're still good. And so
- 41:10Speaker 2: that happens on these tapings where you're like I hope
- 41:12Speaker 2: this go and it went well, and I remember the
- 41:15Speaker 2: lady that was producing it goes, this is gonna change
- 41:19Speaker 2: your road life like touring.
- 41:22Speaker 1: I was like, fuck it. I didn't.
- 41:23Speaker 2: I didn't want to like show too much motion. I
- 41:24Speaker 2: was like fuck yuess. And then they open the new season.
- 41:30Speaker 2: It's still popular at the time. This is end of
- 41:32Speaker 2: twenty going into twenty eleven. I'm like the featured like
- 41:36Speaker 2: highlight new season of Comedy of Presents, and then it
- 41:41Speaker 2: aired and you know, you see tweets and ship and
- 41:44Speaker 2: you're like, fuck it are things like about to change?
- 41:47Speaker 5: Man, shit didn't change at all, Like nothing changed.
- 41:51Speaker 1: I mean got your hopes up a little bit. I
- 41:54Speaker 1: mean you gotta think you probably thinking this woman knows everything.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, And she produced all the carl In specials,
- 42:02Speaker 2: so she's like she's like, I mean the real deal,
- 42:07Speaker 2: you know. And she was like, you know, she's like
- 42:10Speaker 2: trying to like produce other things with me, and she's like,
- 42:12Speaker 2: this is gonna You're gonna see like your life change.
- 42:14Speaker 2: I was like, you're trying to just like not get
- 42:17Speaker 2: too excited. It'd be like someone being like you're going
- 42:20Speaker 2: to get a phone call tomorrow from the Chiefs, like
- 42:23Speaker 2: I know you're enjoying college right now, but things are
- 42:25Speaker 2: about to change, and you're like okay, you're just kind
- 42:29Speaker 2: of like all right cool, and then chiefs are like.
- 42:32Speaker 1: Who know, Like you're just like what the fuck? So
- 42:36Speaker 1: they you know, you just keep going.
- 42:38Speaker 2: I remember like the big bump was that I think
- 42:40Speaker 2: club A club was paying me fifteen hundred a week
- 42:43Speaker 2: to do six shows and they went to eighteen fifty
- 42:46Speaker 2: and they're like see like yeah, you're like, oh Gray,
- 42:50Speaker 2: so you just keep doing that and then I did.
- 42:52Speaker 1: I did.
- 42:53Speaker 2: In twenty thirteen, I shot my first Netflix special, but
- 42:56Speaker 2: I wasn't for Netflix. It was shot on spec, which
- 42:58Speaker 2: means you pay to somebody pay for the production and
- 43:02Speaker 2: then you have it and then they shop it. So
- 43:05Speaker 2: they sent it to like Comedy Central. That's where that's
- 43:08Speaker 2: where you wanted to be. People don't remember that's where
- 43:10Speaker 2: you want it to be. And Comedy Central passed. They're
- 43:13Speaker 2: like no, and then they send it to Showtime and
- 43:16Speaker 2: they're like no. And HBO was like are you fucking
- 43:19Speaker 2: out of your mind? And then then Netflix took it
- 43:22Speaker 2: and it was like a consolation prize.
- 43:25Speaker 1: It was like, well, the USFL is back, yeah, yeah,
- 43:29Speaker 1: which is wild to think about now, yeah, because like
- 43:31Speaker 1: that's where everybody wants to be now, is Netflix? Right?
- 43:33Speaker 1: Oh yeah?
- 43:34Speaker 2: Because it's just like it's the eyeballs. I mean, this
- 43:36Speaker 2: thing is always changing. We don't know what's going to
- 43:38Speaker 2: happen in next year five. I mean, I'm sure the
- 43:41Speaker 2: landscape will change, but for the last decade, it is Netflix.
- 43:47Speaker 1: Yah.
- 43:47Speaker 2: Netflix is where you want to be. And so when
- 43:49Speaker 2: it when they told me we're going.
- 43:51Speaker 5: There, I was like, I was like, you mean the
- 43:54Speaker 5: place you send DVDs to, Like, yeah, that's what it was.
- 43:58Speaker 5: And it was a slow is the thing was like
- 44:00Speaker 5: it came out and then they were I was like,
- 44:01Speaker 5: oh shit, it was slow.
- 44:03Speaker 1: Like it was like.
- 44:05Speaker 2: I was do a club and they were like, you
- 44:07Speaker 2: sold like some you sold some tickets this week. I
- 44:09Speaker 2: was like, oh really, I wasn't even thinking about the
- 44:11Speaker 2: special because it was like five months later. And then
- 44:14Speaker 2: all of a sudden, they're like, have you sold out
- 44:16Speaker 2: the club? And I was like, for real that. We
- 44:18Speaker 2: weren't like it's the special. We were like how did
- 44:20Speaker 2: that happen? And then it started to go like, oh,
- 44:23Speaker 2: this special has gotten traction. I was like, no way,
- 44:27Speaker 2: but it was very slow. And by the end of
- 44:30Speaker 2: the year they were like, you're selling out every show
- 44:32Speaker 2: at the club.
- 44:33Speaker 1: How fired up?
- 44:34Speaker 3: It was getting that kind of feedback like man, it's
- 44:37Speaker 3: really starting to get around.
- 44:38Speaker 5: It is fucking it's amazing.
- 44:40Speaker 2: It is amazing, and you you know, it's like you
- 44:43Speaker 2: don't want to boast, you don't want to go like
- 44:45Speaker 2: fuck yeah, you're just kind of like is this for real?
- 44:47Speaker 5: Like you can't believe it's real.
- 44:48Speaker 2: You can't believe it's real because like it's so hard,
- 44:53Speaker 2: you know, to grind, like you're just like working at it,
- 44:56Speaker 2: and at the time, I mean, whatever, that's ten, iems
- 44:59Speaker 2: thirty four thirty, like you've been doing it for twelve years,
- 45:03Speaker 2: and you're like, I don't know if it's ever gonna
- 45:05Speaker 2: change much from this. And then to find like to
- 45:08Speaker 2: sell out the clubs and you're like you just can't
- 45:11Speaker 2: believe that people are out there and like full and
- 45:14Speaker 2: they're just they want They're like they're like I saw
- 45:16Speaker 2: your shit. It's fucking they love it. You can't believe it.
- 45:19Speaker 2: And out to mention that you get like real checks, You're.
- 45:21Speaker 1: Like, this is a real this is crazy, real money.
- 45:24Speaker 5: It's crazy. Yeah, every level of it is crazy.
- 45:27Speaker 2: But at first it seems like like monopoly money. You're like,
- 45:32Speaker 2: this is what I used to make in a year,
- 45:36Speaker 2: you know, like that like for real, like a year.
- 45:39Speaker 1: What a feeling? Yeah, what a fucking feeling that is.
- 45:42Speaker 5: It's crazy. It is a crazy feeling.
- 45:43Speaker 4: It's gotta be.
- 45:44Speaker 3: And just hearing the you know, obviously you like love
- 45:47Speaker 3: ball and everything else, and then talk about high school
- 45:49Speaker 3: and then like damn, you wanted to play in college
- 45:50Speaker 3: and everything else.
- 45:51Speaker 4: So obviously that competitive nature that fires.
- 45:53Speaker 3: Yeah, so when you are starting to sell out and
- 45:54Speaker 3: start to like get over the hump and everything else,
- 45:57Speaker 3: like you can imagine the energy head when he's realizing, like,
- 46:01Speaker 3: you know, it's starting to fucking happen.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it was.
- 46:04Speaker 5: It was.
- 46:04Speaker 2: It's like it's beyond and I kind of, you know,
- 46:07Speaker 2: I know it because I've experienced it now. So when
- 46:09Speaker 2: I see it happening for other comics, like I'm very
- 46:12Speaker 2: excited for them, Like, I know what's happening to you
- 46:14Speaker 2: right now?
- 46:15Speaker 1: You know? Is it is that a split world the
- 46:17Speaker 1: comic world? Is there guys that are like, for the
- 46:19Speaker 1: most part, are comics excited for other comics or are
- 46:21Speaker 1: there other like is it kind of fifty to fifty
- 46:23Speaker 1: like hey, we don't want to help or we do
- 46:24Speaker 1: want help, because that's kind of how the NFL is, Like, Yeah,
- 46:27Speaker 1: you guys come in. Some guys are like, hey, come on,
- 46:29Speaker 1: let's show you how it goes. Or other guys are like,
- 46:30Speaker 1: fuck off, you're not taking my job. Yeah, it's it's
- 46:33Speaker 1: a little bit of that. I mean, that's that.
- 46:35Speaker 2: The guys that are whatever, like stand up, whatever, they're
- 46:39Speaker 2: just insecure because like they don't realize that there's enough
- 46:43Speaker 2: There is enough room, Like, well, you guys, there's a
- 46:46Speaker 2: real there is roster spots. Yeah, right, With what we do,
- 46:50Speaker 2: there's no such thing as like if he's funny, you're done.
- 46:55Speaker 1: Yeah, like you know, it's you're no longer funny.
- 46:57Speaker 5: Yeah, it's not.
- 46:58Speaker 1: It's not like that.
- 46:59Speaker 2: But I think some people don't realize that that, like
- 47:01Speaker 2: we can all work and do shows and sell tickets
- 47:06Speaker 2: like it's not it's not really a threat to you.
- 47:08Speaker 5: And I actually feel like.
- 47:10Speaker 2: Great stand Like when I watch a stand up and
- 47:13Speaker 2: they're like, legit really good, I don't go fuck. I'm
- 47:17Speaker 2: like this is I get excited by it. Like I
- 47:19Speaker 2: find it kind of inspiring, you know. I'm like, oh,
- 47:21Speaker 2: this is all like really good stand up is exciting,
- 47:25Speaker 2: and it makes me want to do stand up. It
- 47:27Speaker 2: makes me want to go get back on stage. I'm
- 47:28Speaker 2: like that was so fucking good that I want to
- 47:30Speaker 2: do more stand up.
- 47:31Speaker 1: You know.
- 47:32Speaker 2: Shitty stand up makes me like want to go home,
- 47:34Speaker 2: you know, go take a nap. Yeah, I'm like this sucks.
- 47:38Speaker 2: I get anxiety. I want to leave the room. Like
- 47:39Speaker 2: when I'm watching it, I'm like, oh fuck, And I
- 47:41Speaker 2: just like I walk out of the room, but when
- 47:43Speaker 2: they're good, I want to sit there and watch it
- 47:45Speaker 2: like anybody else.
- 47:46Speaker 1: You know. Yeah, when you're when you're coming up and
- 47:48Speaker 1: you've already found your voice, you found your kidence, you
- 47:50Speaker 1: found your timing. How do you go and watch other
- 47:54Speaker 1: comics that are making it and doing well, that have
- 47:56Speaker 1: similar humor to you and not take their shit because
- 48:00Speaker 1: it seems like a very difficult job to not, you know,
- 48:04Speaker 1: snipe someone's joke and change it up a little bit.
- 48:07Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, like you're something you're like that was solid,
- 48:10Speaker 3: I feel like and the thing that comes to myself
- 48:12Speaker 3: was in there, like growing up, like when I was,
- 48:16Speaker 3: you know, getting like turning, like twelve thirteen, like Dane
- 48:19Speaker 3: Cook was big and I love Dang Cook.
- 48:21Speaker 1: I thought it was awesome. But then as get older,
- 48:23Speaker 1: more media, more podcasts come out, people are kind of
- 48:25Speaker 1: hating on Dank Cook. I'm not asking you to do that,
- 48:27Speaker 1: but people are saying Dane Cook stole from Lewis c
- 48:29Speaker 1: K with the rolling of the rs and all this
- 48:31Speaker 1: different stuff, like how do you not take that stuff?
- 48:34Speaker 1: Was that ever a struggle for you?
- 48:36Speaker 3: No?
- 48:36Speaker 2: I mean I think that there's just such a an
- 48:39Speaker 2: established thing where it's usually when you see somebody who's
- 48:43Speaker 2: like you hear a great joke, you just go fuck that, like,
- 48:47Speaker 2: god damn, I wish I would have thought of that, right,
- 48:49Speaker 2: But it's like he did it. Like when you see it,
- 48:52Speaker 2: you're just like that's done now, you know. Uh yeah,
- 48:55Speaker 2: So it never occurs to you to go, like, how
- 48:58Speaker 2: can I make that mine? You kind of just go
- 49:01Speaker 2: like I need to fucking write more. I need to
- 49:04Speaker 2: come up with some shit. But yeah, no, the and
- 49:08Speaker 2: which like, look, the real thing is that That's why
- 49:12Speaker 2: I think so many of us, myself included, lean so
- 49:14Speaker 2: hard into talking about our lives because there's no like
- 49:20Speaker 2: you can't. It's exactly if I talk to you about
- 49:23Speaker 2: like my wife, my kids, my dad, my travels, like
- 49:28Speaker 2: you know, my experiences, there is no chance that I'm
- 49:32Speaker 2: talking about what you're talking about, like it's so uniquely mine.
- 49:35Speaker 2: So that's I think that's something that has really evolved
- 49:39Speaker 2: in stand up is like people have really a lot
- 49:42Speaker 2: not everybody, but a lot of people just really lean
- 49:44Speaker 2: into talking about their personal experiences because there's no you're
- 49:48Speaker 2: not going to cross contaminate anything. But I fucking I mean, yeah,
- 49:51Speaker 2: I watched jokes where I'm like, that was so fucking good,
- 49:54Speaker 2: and my thought really is like I wish I would
- 49:57Speaker 2: have thought of that, fuck you piece of shit.
- 49:59Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it would almost suck. Like I feel like
- 50:02Speaker 3: if that it almost suck. Like you're doing your own thing.
- 50:04Speaker 3: You don't really watch a whole lot, and then one
- 50:06Speaker 3: of your jokes is similar to somebody else. Now I
- 50:08Speaker 3: have people are like, oh, you kind of and then
- 50:10Speaker 3: you're just thinking I would assume that you're just thinking like, fuck,
- 50:12Speaker 3: I didn't, I didn't know.
- 50:13Speaker 1: I'll tell you what I have said a few times.
- 50:15Speaker 2: I've seen somebody do a bit that's something similar to
- 50:19Speaker 2: what I'm doing, and I'm in the room and I
- 50:22Speaker 2: always tell them in that moment like, hey, just so
- 50:25Speaker 2: you know, I have a bit very similar to what
- 50:29Speaker 2: you're saying right now, because it's something that's not out,
- 50:33Speaker 2: Like if it's out, then I'm just I'll be like, oh,
- 50:35Speaker 2: they're they're doing something similar to something I have out,
- 50:38Speaker 2: so they're gonna look like they're doing my bit. Yeah,
- 50:43Speaker 2: like the people oh yeah, yeah, and people will. I mean,
- 50:47Speaker 2: I've I've had people tell me they're like, you're that
- 50:49Speaker 2: bit is similar to so and so, and I'll be
- 50:52Speaker 2: I'll look and either they're not similar, and you're like,
- 50:54Speaker 2: that's not even remotely close. There's just like we both
- 50:59Speaker 2: have a bit about hats and you're like you stole
- 51:01Speaker 2: his bit, and like, what are you talking about?
- 51:03Speaker 5: Like we're both allowed to talk about hats, right, you know.
- 51:06Speaker 2: But I've also told people like I've seen something similar,
- 51:08Speaker 2: and then I go, I look at when they came out,
- 51:11Speaker 2: and if my shit came out first, I'm not even
- 51:14Speaker 2: accusing the other person that taking it. I'm just like, hey,
- 51:16Speaker 2: just you know, mine came out a year before, and
- 51:18Speaker 2: then that person like shuts down.
- 51:21Speaker 5: But I've told people because you want to tell. You
- 51:23Speaker 5: want to tell somebody.
- 51:24Speaker 2: So that they don't think, like if somebody is up
- 51:27Speaker 2: there and they do their fucking hat bit and you're like,
- 51:30Speaker 2: I'm doing a bit right now. You want to tell
- 51:33Speaker 2: them if they see you, because you want them to go, hey,
- 51:34Speaker 2: I didn't come up with that after I saw you
- 51:37Speaker 2: that day at the club. I'm doing it right, So
- 51:40Speaker 2: I tell them in the moment, right, that happened. But
- 51:42Speaker 2: that happens. That's a normal thing to happen. Where you go,
- 51:45Speaker 2: we're both talking about fucking.
- 51:47Speaker 1: Ice or whatever. You know.
- 51:49Speaker 2: So yeah, just just let you know that I am
- 51:51Speaker 2: also exploring what it is to have sub freezing water
- 51:56Speaker 2: in my class.
- 51:56Speaker 3: So when you have a like a platform is big
- 52:00Speaker 3: as you do like you and bird with two Bears,
- 52:02Speaker 3: two Bears, one Cave and just all the you kind
- 52:05Speaker 3: of have like a network and as big as your
- 52:07Speaker 3: brand is, what is the benefit? And if it's as
- 52:11Speaker 3: simple as finances, then I guess that's what the answer
- 52:15Speaker 3: would be. But what is the benefit of being on
- 52:17Speaker 3: like a Netflix or a streaming platform versus you just
- 52:19Speaker 3: doing your own thing because you have such a big
- 52:21Speaker 3: audience yourself. No, it's a it's actually a good question.
- 52:24Speaker 3: I mean everything has changed. I Mean one of the
- 52:26Speaker 3: things that is like obvious is that you can have
- 52:31Speaker 3: great success with posting a special on YouTube like YouTube.
- 52:37Speaker 3: People were like seeing as like for a minute, like, oh,
- 52:40Speaker 3: things didn't work out for you, right, you had to
- 52:42Speaker 3: put it on YouTube? And then you see what's happened
- 52:46Speaker 3: with specials on YouTube that when they hit they fucking explode.
- 52:50Speaker 1: I mean Shane's Shane Dude. That stand up in Austin
- 52:55Speaker 1: has got to be one of my top five it's
- 52:56Speaker 1: one of my thought five. It is so fucking funny.
- 52:59Speaker 2: When I I I just told I saw him yesterday,
- 53:02Speaker 2: and I was, I mean, I've told him this before
- 53:03Speaker 2: that when I first was you know, i'd heard about
- 53:08Speaker 2: him and I saw a clip and I was like,
- 53:10Speaker 2: it's funny. And then his special came out. It first
- 53:13Speaker 2: came out, I was sent the you know whatever, the link.
- 53:18Speaker 2: I click on it, and I realized that like fifteen
- 53:22Speaker 2: to twenty minutes have gone by, and I'm like and
- 53:25Speaker 2: the reason that like I'm like surprised is like normally,
- 53:27Speaker 2: like I tap out fast, like I'll watch Stand Up
- 53:30Speaker 2: for like three minutes and like turn it off, you know,
- 53:32Speaker 2: a special, and then I'm like checking again. I'm like,
- 53:36Speaker 2: I'm about to finish this thing. It's like a whatever
- 53:38Speaker 2: fifty minutes or something. I turn it off and I
- 53:40Speaker 2: was like, that is the most engaged and hardest I've
- 53:44Speaker 2: laughed at a special.
- 53:45Speaker 1: In a long, like in a while. And it was
- 53:49Speaker 1: a YouTube special that like he was, it's so good.
- 53:53Speaker 2: Like it's also like it is my wheelhouse of what
- 53:56Speaker 2: I find funny, Like he like it, you know what
- 53:58Speaker 2: I mean, Like there's genres of things that people like.
- 54:01Speaker 1: It, no question. It really hit me in my in my.
- 54:05Speaker 2: Spot where I was like, this is so fucking funny
- 54:08Speaker 2: and yeah, I mean I I love that special. I
- 54:11Speaker 2: think it's one of the best specials of the last
- 54:13Speaker 2: five years.
- 54:14Speaker 3: Yeah, the Fotball, the Fox News was just all of it.
- 54:19Speaker 2: The dad Ship is probably what made me laugh the hardest,
- 54:21Speaker 2: Like when he's when he talks about like when he's
- 54:25Speaker 2: like he's so drunk and he wakes up to like
- 54:28Speaker 2: what's going on in Israel, like the Bomby Like that
- 54:31Speaker 2: shit made me laugh.
- 54:33Speaker 1: Yeah, whoa, that made me laugh. It's the thing that
- 54:40Speaker 1: is so funny to me about Shane is what's so
- 54:41Speaker 1: funny to me about you and your stand up is
- 54:43Speaker 1: like Shane can say so little and have such a
- 54:47Speaker 1: presence and just a little movement and the timing Like
- 54:50Speaker 1: when I watch Sledgehammer, you're literally having conversation with your
- 54:53Speaker 1: kid or with your dad and you like are just
- 54:56Speaker 1: doing eight words and the span of thirty seconds, but
- 55:00Speaker 1: the way you put the words and where you put them,
- 55:02Speaker 1: it's fucking hilarious.
- 55:03Speaker 5: Yeah, thanks man, Thanks.
- 55:04Speaker 2: I mean, it's it's the type of thing yeah, that like,
- 55:07Speaker 2: I mean, little things the nuance of things is what
- 55:10Speaker 2: makes me laugh the hardest, more so than like the
- 55:13Speaker 2: the the you know, the big punchline is always something
- 55:16Speaker 2: you want, but like it's the little stuff that makes.
- 55:18Speaker 1: Me remember and love stuff.
- 55:20Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, like the little facial expressions, the pause
- 55:24Speaker 2: being in the right play Like that's what you work
- 55:25Speaker 2: on too.
- 55:26Speaker 5: You know, callbacks that have callbacks all that's.
- 55:28Speaker 1: Are always a fun little treat.
- 55:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I feel like that's a lot of your fans
- 55:31Speaker 4: like watching it too.
- 55:32Speaker 3: You just see the uh, the reaction by a lot
- 55:34Speaker 3: of your fans, like when you do hit the callbacks.
- 55:36Speaker 3: Throughout the entirety of the special one, everyone's just clapping
- 55:40Speaker 3: because it's funny. But it's also like man like well done,
- 55:43Speaker 3: Like that would have to feel that would have to
- 55:45Speaker 3: feel so sick.
- 55:46Speaker 2: Yeah, you want to like you don't want them to
- 55:48Speaker 2: be too like, you know, for lack of a better
- 55:50Speaker 2: like to eat. You want to weave them in a
- 55:52Speaker 2: clever way because then they're kind of like, ah, like
- 55:54Speaker 2: there it is as opposed to just like dropping it whenever.
- 55:58Speaker 2: So like like making a callback feel organic, so it's
- 56:02Speaker 2: like it's in a bit ten minutes later, but it is,
- 56:05Speaker 2: you know, it's a callback to something, but it's it.
- 56:07Speaker 2: It feels natural in the newer bit or in the
- 56:10Speaker 2: later bit. That's like a fun thing. I think too.
- 56:12Speaker 4: It's like an appreciation clop that's happened.
- 56:14Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly, Yeah, yeah, it's fun.
- 56:16Speaker 2: By the way, I have to mention because because I
- 56:19Speaker 2: did see Shane yesterday that he was like, we if
- 56:22Speaker 2: you can watch that. It came out today. I was like,
- 56:25Speaker 2: how was u? How was the Beer Olympics? He goes,
- 56:28Speaker 2: you dodged a bullet?
- 56:31Speaker 1: He goes it sucked.
- 56:35Speaker 2: And I was like, shut up. And then what we
- 56:37Speaker 2: got into was, first of all, yes he did show
- 56:41Speaker 2: me Bruce. He's like, this is a week old bruise
- 56:43Speaker 2: is still yellow. And I was like, here's what it is.
- 56:45Speaker 5: You hang out with these guys and you're like just
- 56:47Speaker 5: just good guys, like the regular guys. I go, but
- 56:50Speaker 5: when you take these fucking assholes, these are these pro athletes,
- 56:54Speaker 5: and you just go we're competing. I go, this switch
- 56:57Speaker 5: happens that you you forget that they're mont sirts, like
- 57:00Speaker 5: they're actual literal monsters. He's like, dude, I had a
- 57:03Speaker 5: guy grabbed me by my neck and hold me out.
- 57:05Speaker 5: He goes, I thought we were playing. I thought we
- 57:07Speaker 5: were like fucking around and then keep talking.
- 57:12Speaker 1: I'll show it to you.
- 57:13Speaker 2: He goes, I got beat the fuck up and I
- 57:15Speaker 2: was drunk, so I didn't know what was happening to
- 57:18Speaker 2: me until the next day.
- 57:19Speaker 1: And he was like, it hurts so bad. This is
- 57:21Speaker 1: why Shane's such a bit. Okay, tell me, tell me
- 57:23Speaker 1: because that whole wrestling that's me and Shane.
- 57:27Speaker 5: That's the fucking Yeah.
- 57:28Speaker 2: He looks like he's suffering right there.
- 57:33Speaker 3: Taylor has him like that, like in the pony's dragging.
- 57:37Speaker 3: He's tapping like three or four times, and Day was
- 57:40Speaker 3: just dragging him throughout the pool.
- 57:42Speaker 2: You can just tell shoving, he goes, Yeah, he goes,
- 57:45Speaker 2: Taylor is a professional shover.
- 57:47Speaker 1: He's shoving me. He So here's how it started. We
- 57:51Speaker 1: were in my man cave and we're kind of fucking
- 57:52Speaker 1: around because I do. I think Shane's hilarious and I
- 57:55Speaker 1: love being around him, especially when he's got a couple
- 57:56Speaker 1: of drinks in him. And she kind of comes out
- 57:58Speaker 1: of a shell a little bit and he starts, you
- 58:00Speaker 1: know what, we're you gonna do, pussy, what are you
- 58:01Speaker 1: gonna do? And he starts fucking aking it on. So
- 58:03Speaker 1: we end up on the couch. There's a photo of
- 58:05Speaker 1: us on the couch and I'm like full mounted on
- 58:07Speaker 1: him and I'm like holding him and he's like she's choking,
- 58:10Speaker 1: Like you're a bit like still egging it on.
- 58:11Speaker 5: Yeah, and then.
- 58:12Speaker 1: Shirt like Will gets in a fight with this guy
- 58:15Speaker 1: with the lead singer Middland those him in the pool,
- 58:17Speaker 1: starts wrestling him, and then JP's like, hey, gets Shane
- 58:20Speaker 1: in the pool, So I like, you know, Shane, he
- 58:21Speaker 1: doesn't want to take that shirt off for nobody. We
- 58:23Speaker 1: gotta get him in this fucking pool. So I body
- 58:26Speaker 1: tossed him in there, and you can see in this
- 58:28Speaker 1: videos like you don't want this, and he kind of
- 58:29Speaker 1: takes your shirt off. We start going, but he instigated
- 58:33Speaker 1: ninety percent of that shit. Him and Burt would lose
- 58:36Speaker 1: in a competition, and then Shane would find me and
- 58:38Speaker 1: Will and come up behind us and be like, you're
- 58:41Speaker 1: being nasty. You'd being a bad host, man, You're such
- 58:43Speaker 1: a bad host. But I'm like trying to shoot a
- 58:45Speaker 1: beer bunk bottle. I'm like, dude, I'm gonna fucking end this,
- 58:47Speaker 1: he said. He said an NHL player joh James.
- 58:51Speaker 5: He goes, he goes this dude, legit hurt me and
- 58:54Speaker 5: then came back. He was like, my bad on that.
- 58:56Speaker 1: Yeah, those hockey players they look like stick. They are
- 59:00Speaker 1: strong and sturdy individuals. They're playing like that's after all
- 59:04Speaker 1: the competition is over.
- 59:05Speaker 5: It's like and they fucking fight like they fight.
- 59:08Speaker 1: Yoh yeah, and they can booze too, they can put
- 59:11Speaker 1: it down and they getting start playing pool basketball. And
- 59:14Speaker 1: I looked over for a minute. I could have sworn
- 59:17Speaker 1: three people were drowning at one point. It was just
- 59:19Speaker 1: it's elbows are being thrown. Dudes are getting thrown everywhere.
- 59:21Speaker 1: It was as freddy and as energetic as it possible
- 59:25Speaker 1: we can get.
- 59:25Speaker 5: Yeah, you got you gotta watch Shane talk about it.
- 59:27Speaker 4: Yeah, it's out today two bears.
- 59:30Speaker 2: No, No, it's it's his. I came out because I
- 59:32Speaker 2: did it. Oh you went out to uh oh dude,
- 59:34Speaker 2: I went to Queens. How wild is his spot?
- 59:36Speaker 5: That's fine?
- 59:37Speaker 1: I was out there, what was that a month ago?
- 59:40Speaker 3: He's like, hey, you want to come do the pod?
- 59:41Speaker 3: I was like, hell yeah, dude, And then I call
- 59:43Speaker 3: him when I get there, I'm like, hey, am I
- 59:44Speaker 3: in the.
- 59:44Speaker 4: Right spot and then we come in. I'm like, yeah,
- 59:46Speaker 4: why are you living like this? Man?
- 59:48Speaker 1: He's like, is how you make comedy? Yeah?
- 59:52Speaker 3: And then I go he lives like a like a hoarder, right, yeah,
- 59:55Speaker 3: like he he lives like he's like a college student.
- 59:58Speaker 3: Then you go upstairs and all the boys are just
- 59:59Speaker 3: sitting there playing UFC like video games.
- 1:00:02Speaker 5: It's such a departure from my life. I live like a.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: Fucking baller, Like what the fuck? Yeah, but it's a yeah,
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: it's a choice. Yeah, it is a choice. He does
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: a lot of sketch comedy. Why didn't you Was there
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: ever a point when you were talking about doing communications
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: and making videos and like doing all that? Did you
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: ever want to do like mad Teas? Definitely? Definitely.
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: I mean I literally thought that when I was at
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: that Groundling the Groundlings if you if you look it up,
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: it's like it's the West Coast improv school that so
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: many people you know would go to.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: It's like Second City r Yeah exactly, Okay, it's.
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: The la version of that, and it's I mean Will
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: Ferrell came from there, foul and all, like all the
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: endless people. So when I found that out, I was like, oh,
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: that's where I'll go and then I'll do SNL like
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: I literally thought.
- 1:00:53Speaker 5: That was the way to do it.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: And then they have tiers like they have.
- 1:00:59Speaker 5: It's a school, so like there's entry level one, level
- 1:01:04Speaker 5: two like like that.
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: Then there's this thing called Writer's Lab. Then there's Sunday Company,
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: and then there's the ground links, right, so it's a
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: whole thing. When you get to writing lab, if they
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: call you, it means that you've, like you at least
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: have some chops if you suck there and they don't
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: call you for that when they go, well, they call you,
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: and it's to like, you know, start working on the
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: writing aspect of it. If you can pass on it,
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: you can go like, I can't do it right now,
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: and they'll call you a second time. But if you
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: pass a second time, they'd never call you again. That's
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: the policy. And so the first time they called me,
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: I had a legit I can't do it right now.
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: I don't remember what it was. But the second time
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: they called me it was I realized I started doing
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: stand up and I remember I, I mean, you know,
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: I got fifty bucks to do it here, hundred dollars
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: to do it there, and I was like, I think
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: this is the path I need. Like I felt like
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: if I go do that, it's gonna be a distraction
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: from stand up, Like it's it's I'm spread out in
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: a way that I I can't register. So I said no,
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: But I still liked doing sketched up, like I you know,
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: I've filmed sketches over the years and posted them, and
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: I've acted in a few things. I have like a
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: couple of things that are like legit. I have a
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: thing with Bert that we're gonna do. I have another
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: movie in development at a at a at a place,
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: and then I I filmed like my own version of
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: like I filmed the pilot last year that I paid
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: for really yeah yeah, and I sold it, so like
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: we're gonna go make the series.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: Yeah, So it's and that's like I wrote it, I'm
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: in it. I produced it, spent fucking so much money
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: to make it.
- 1:02:59Speaker 5: Look I just didn't want it to look like like
- 1:03:03Speaker 5: a sketch show because of them look so low production.
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: So we don't like we actually call them shorts, like
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: you know, like it's like if you ever watch Black Mirror,
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: like though an episode of that will have, like you know,
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: it's like a short film, and that's how we tried
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: to make this series like short films.
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: Any idea when that's gonna come out?
- 1:03:22Speaker 5: Well, it'd be cool if the strike was resolved so
- 1:03:26Speaker 5: that you probably.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: Get I mean I want it.
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: I want them to get what they need obviously and
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: what they want. But my guess would be that it
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: would be late next year when we would be able
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: to put that out.
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: Yeah you uh, I know when we had burnt on
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: and we're kind of like asking about your guys, dynamic
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: and everything else. And he alludes to you being like
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: the brains behind the operation like over the years obviously
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: you know humble Cat, But how do you learn to
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: how have you learned how to build all these things
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: out over time? Like do you have a like a
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: knack or an interest like when you're building out like
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: you have a media network, you have all these things
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: going on, like balancing all that and learning about all that,
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: because it does seem like you are a very savvy
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: behind the microphone, but or you know, behind the camera
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: and everything else.
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: Now I think it's like, you know, I'm an I'm
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: an observer and I I try to like learn from
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: what other people are doing too, So I do a
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: lot of that, Like I do a lot of like
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: seeing what works for other people and then following instincts
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: and like you know, not being not being resistant to
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: like the new whatever's something that something is like coming about,
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: like you know, hey, whatever it could be like TikTok
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: is where everyone's going, and not being like I'm not
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: going to do that. You know, that's not for like
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: just being open to the fact that that you can't
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: you can't.
- 1:04:52Speaker 5: Just go I do it this way.
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: This is what we do, like being open to those
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: ideas and trying things like i'm I'm I think if
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: if you're a comic, you're natural entrepreneur, like you man it.
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: You own your business, and that means that you're not
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: totally risk averse, like you're going to take risks, and
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: so like we take risks in things like when we
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: do these uh we do these live streaming shows, like
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: to produce them, you have to spend money. You have
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: to like go ahead and put together a different type
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: of show. Like it's like it's like almost like a
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: variety show and we're gonna have music, We're gonna have this.
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: It's a risk, and then you go, I'm gonna I'm
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: gonna do ten dollars, like it was a big thing.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: Was like people were like trying to like really have
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: us agents, so like you should charge more, you know.
- 1:05:40Speaker 5: I was like, now, let's just try to do volume.
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: Like, let's just try to do volume and see if
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: we can do a lot of tickets but make it affordable.
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: Ten bucks is like pretty affordable ticket, and so I'm
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: open to like try things, and I go, if this doesn't,
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: like when I shot the pilot, I spent over a
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: million dollars to shoot it, So you go, like and
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: then people like, what if you lose money?
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: I'm like, then it didn't.
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: Work out, But like the upside is maybe it's exactly
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: what I wanted to make. And even if I don't
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: make money on it, I have this thing I wanted
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: to make, and so I can't you don't make I
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: don't make just decisions based on is this going to
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: be financially beneficial? Obviously you want to make money, but
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: like you have to do things that are like fulfilling creatively.
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: And to me, there's like something about in this era
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: that we're in right now, the I like the adventure
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: of trying something and seeing how it like how where
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: it ends up, even if that's like trying it, Like
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: we develop new podcasts and I'm like, you know, now
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: these are going to like podcasts, you know what I mean,
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: you guys do it. It's like you go, well, let's
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: get together do this pot do fucking five hundred people
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: might listen to it, and it's considered a bomb and
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: there is no such thing as like if you do
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: put the Like there's been celebrities that have gotten together
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: to do podcasts that fail, like legit huge names. So
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: I get excited about trying new things. It's just like
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: when you get on stage, you try things. That's what
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: feels good to like try a joke and have the
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: potential for it to bomb. Like if there's no potential
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: for it to bomb, it's not as as rewarding internally
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: as you know what I mean, Like a safe joke
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: right like where you're like, let's get a last Yeah,
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: those are like it feels good to get to laugh,
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: but part of you goes like if you would have
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: tried something else that was like riskier, that feels more fun.
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: And I think that applies to like all the stuff
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: you're saying like all those things is like you want
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: to take a risk, you want it to be a
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: calculated risk, but there's no there's no thrill in just
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: like playing everything safe, you know what I mean?
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: Yeah, was there ever a fear when you're when you
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: had kids about taking more risk?
- 1:07:52Speaker 5: There was a fear in not working enough, so.
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: Which is a different thing than most people say. Right, Yeah,
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: a lot of people are like I I gotta.
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: When she was pregnant and I was like, we're having
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: a baby. I I definitely hit a switch where I
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: just went like into I need to work a lot,
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: and I went I went.
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: Hard, and it was the idea of like providing.
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: Yeah, because I was like, I mean, up until that point,
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: it was the two of us. Like you realize that,
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: like if it's just the two of you, you can
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: fucking get by. We'll go to Trader Joe's and get
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: some frozen fucking burritos and like you know what I mean.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: Like, yeah, you have dinner. Dinner really doesn't matter.
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: It's like if I if you if you don't, if
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: you're not making a lot, you're like, well, you know,
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: hopefully I'll get another gig next week.
- 1:08:41Speaker 5: And I'll have enough for rent like like that. Yeah,
- 1:08:44Speaker 5: you're like, I mean I always wanted to work, but
- 1:08:47Speaker 5: like when when a kid comes, Yeah, I was like
- 1:08:51Speaker 5: it wasn't even I didn't have to like externally say it.
- 1:08:53Speaker 5: It was like it was so internal of like it's
- 1:08:56Speaker 5: like you it's like the modern version of like hunter
- 1:08:58Speaker 5: gatherer mode where you just like I have to provide
- 1:09:03Speaker 5: so that I mean I went into like six gear
- 1:09:06Speaker 5: with like working.
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, it seems like you have an incredible work
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: ethic When you look at you and Bert, Yeah, who
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: would you say has the better work ethic?
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: Well, Bert be like, I mean I'm doing a lot
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: more actually right now.
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: The festival is.
- 1:09:27Speaker 5: No. I think we both you know, I think we
- 1:09:29Speaker 5: both have dad or I had a dad who like
- 1:09:32Speaker 5: we were like very traditional work you know, get up
- 1:09:36Speaker 5: at five point thirty whenever, go to work. Like they're
- 1:09:39Speaker 5: just like.
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: Old school Americana dads like yeah, of course you work, right,
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: So then like yeah, when opportunities come, like they have
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: arrived for us now we're like we have opportunities, Like,
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: I mean, neither one of us is like eah whatever, yeah,
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: you know, like we're like, oh yeah, you go to work.
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: Yeah, so we both work a lot.
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: I mean I've like I did a tour that I
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: think was insane when I look back on like it
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: was it was too much meaning and not like I
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: couldn't handle it. It's just like for like from having
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: a family. It's just like it's not conducive to do
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: that many shows and tour that much. So I'm more
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: conscious of it and like I'm literally gonna see my
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: agent here to plan out the next like you we
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: have to have more weeks off, you know. But it's
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: not because like I don't want to work. It's like
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: I have to be able to be home, like I
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: have little kids.
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: Man. Yeah, So I mean Bert is going in my.
- 1:10:43Speaker 5: Opinion, too hard, Like he goes and I'm like it's insane.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's almost like avoiding life, like you
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: know what I mean, Like I'm like, what are you doing?
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: And then he cause like Bert does this thing where
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: he knows them. When I say this, he'll be like, yeah,
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: just I don't know.
- 1:11:02Speaker 5: I just I don't know.
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: I just took it and took on too much. I'm like, yeah,
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: but you're in control, like you can say it, and
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: he's like I don't know, like I don't know. Definitely, yeah, definitely.
- 1:11:13Speaker 4: He does give himself to a lot of different to
- 1:11:16Speaker 4: as much as he can. I mean, even coming to the.
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: Beer Olympics when I was a great day, was like,
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: hey man, you know, I know.
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: You get pulling a lot out different ankles and you're
- 1:11:23Speaker 4: just blowing up.
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: He has been for a while now, and it's like, oh,
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: I appreciate you just like taking the time.
- 1:11:29Speaker 4: And because you can even see it at the Beer Olympics.
- 1:11:31Speaker 3: I don't know about you, but you pulled a little
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: bit of a You could just see like he was
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: worn down a little bit. And then he expressed that
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: when he sent the message back, he's like, hey, you know,
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: I was run a little low, but very appreciative, you know,
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: bird like he's the best.
- 1:11:43Speaker 5: Now he's the best.
- 1:11:44Speaker 4: It does seem like he just goes fuck.
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: I want him an hour to I mean, if he's
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: if he's trying to look, if he wants to hear this, Okay,
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: you're working harder.
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: He did ask me to ask that question.
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: No, I mean yeah, but I you know, we did
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: a zoom call or this thing the other day and
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: we get on He's like, I'm like, are you all right?
- 1:12:04Speaker 5: He's like I'm dying.
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: I was like, yeah, I don't want that to be real,
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: Like could you chill the fuck out for a second.
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: But yeah, he goes, you know, he'll do this. I
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: think he's gonna take some a little.
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: Bit of time.
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: Then he's got his fully loaded cruise. Then he goes
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: back on tour, then into another production. Yeah, it's like,
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: I don't know, man, I get it because you go,
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: these are these are a credible opportunity. You work your
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: whole career for these opportunities and then you get them.
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: But you still have to like I'm look, I'm saying
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: it like I'm telling him, I'm telling myself too.
- 1:12:37Speaker 5: You still have to like figure out how to manage
- 1:12:40Speaker 5: it because you you don't.
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: I guess you don't want to be like no, thanks
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: right to the thing that you're like you always wanted
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: to do. But you can't say yes to all of it.
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: That's the that's the part. You have to figure you
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: can't say yes to all of it.
- 1:13:00Speaker 7: Fuck them, give us, give us three pet peeves of
- 1:13:07Speaker 7: Bert Kreischer, three of his pet peeves, three pet beeves.
- 1:13:14Speaker 5: You have with him, Oh that I have with him.
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: No, like that you see of him?
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: Three pet peeves you have for Bert? Like what bugs
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: you about Burt?
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: He thinks pretty easy.
- 1:13:27Speaker 5: Number one would be as busy as he is, just
- 1:13:36Speaker 5: not responding to Like I'm like, hey man, we're good friends,
- 1:13:43Speaker 5: we're literal business partners. And I've called you and texted
- 1:13:47Speaker 5: you for four days.
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, no, yeah, Like I've been around you
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: when other people and I see how you I'm like,
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: don't fucking answer me.
- 1:14:03Speaker 5: So that would that fucking irritates the ship out of me.
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm like, whatever, dude, I know what, I know
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: how you do this, like pick up the fucking phone.
- 1:14:12Speaker 5: Text me back that you can't talk.
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: Simple enough?
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: So that makes me crazy? What else makes me crazy
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: about him?
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: He?
- 1:14:24Speaker 5: Uh?
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: He will, Oh yeah, he just won't like consider anybody
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: else's emotions in the room. So like he'll come in
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: and I'll be like and he's like yelling at you know,
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: somebody on the staff, and I'm like buddy, buddy, and he's.
- 1:14:46Speaker 5: Like what, I go, yeah, but he feels this way.
- 1:14:49Speaker 5: But I'll give I'll give him credit.
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: When you point that stuff out to him, he'll be like,
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: you're right, you're right, you're right the dove.
- 1:14:57Speaker 5: I'm sorry. I didn't think about how you might have
- 1:14:59Speaker 5: felt in this.
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: It's literally like you're raising kids, yeah you know what
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: I mean, like your dad, and you're just like yeah,
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: but your brother feels this way.
- 1:15:07Speaker 5: Yeah, and then he's like, okay, good point.
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: Point.
- 1:15:09Speaker 5: Sometimes I get a little ahead. Yeah, I do give
- 1:15:12Speaker 5: him credit.
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: He gets very he gets like, he gets so fucking
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: like fired up in the moments of like fun, because
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: he his whole thing is like how can I make
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: something more? Like he wants every moment to be like
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: if he came in here, he's like, let's make this
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: the best podcast in the history of podcast.
- 1:15:30Speaker 5: Like yeah, right, like he must have. He wants to
- 1:15:32Speaker 5: manufacture fun, even if it's like you know, like it can't.
- 1:15:36Speaker 5: He doesn't want to have like an okay day. Every
- 1:15:41Speaker 5: time you go like, how was last night? Saying it
- 1:15:43Speaker 5: was the best night in my life? And I go,
- 1:15:45Speaker 5: I know it wasn't, and he's like what, I go.
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: Well, if it was the best night, like you've said,
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: it's been the best night you're life five hundred times,
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: so which one is it? Like most people have an
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: epic experience. You I go, you had dinner. You told
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: me it's best dinner you've ever had in your life.
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: You had the best coffee ever in your life. This morning,
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: the show was the best night. He goes, Okay, sometimes
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: I embellished, and I'm like, yeah, quite a bit. So
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: your bird voice is so funny. It's like he but
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: you know what I mean, like he really and I
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: actually a lot of that is tied to the to
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: like booze, Like he's know, he's the party guy, because
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: like the party guy wants the party to go on, right.
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: Like one time we hung out.
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: I mean I'm not a big drinker, and we had
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: a couple drinks and I was like, and it was
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: it was like midnight. We were at this hotel. I
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: was like, all right, like I'm gonna go to bed.
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: He goes, what I go? I want to go to bed?
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: He goes, Why I go? Cause it's fucking midnight and
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: I've had a few drinks and I'm tired. He's like,
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: don't you want this feeling to keep going?
- 1:16:47Speaker 5: What feeling? He's like, just like the buzz, like don't
- 1:16:50Speaker 5: you want to just not stop?
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: And I was like no, I want to put my
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: head on a fucking pillow and sleep, like are you crazy.
- 1:16:59Speaker 5: And he's like, I just want to to never end.
- 1:17:00Speaker 5: I was like, that's not a healthy thought.
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: Fucking this shit will never end.
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: But then he actually he's not lying about that, Like
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: that is you know what I mean? Like yeah, and so,
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: like it has two sides, because the upside is that
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: he makes most things more fun. He just comes in
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: and you're like, oh shit, like a party just came
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: into the room. Like he's a literal party now. By
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: the way, he's in the last year since he's like
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: really like I don't know, exploded in popularity or whatever.
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: Every time I see him, there's like eight people with him.
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: I'm like, who the fuck are all these people. He's
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: an entourage now, Like he's like, this.
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: Is my camera guy, this is my sound guy.
- 1:17:43Speaker 5: I'm like, what he never just rolls in solo anymore.
- 1:17:47Speaker 5: It's a party. It's a party where he goes yeah
- 1:17:49Speaker 5: and then they keep the party going.
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: Seems exhausting, but also be on the receiving end of it.
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: Every time Bert walks into a room, you're like, fuck, yeah, dude, yeah, yeah,
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: I'm so happy he's here because he's such a good
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: time and the thing about Bert is when you see
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: him and you talk to him a minute, two minutes,
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: you literally walk away going I feel like we're best friends.
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: Like man, I'm like, I think we passed tom as Ye, no,
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: he does.
- 1:18:19Speaker 5: He's very here's the thing. He's very sincere. He's very sincere.
- 1:18:22Speaker 5: And he doesn't do like he doesn't do like uh yeah,
- 1:18:26Speaker 5: like I good to see you. Like he's he's not
- 1:18:28Speaker 5: like that. He's a he's like a look into your
- 1:18:30Speaker 5: eyes and like this means so much to me. He
- 1:18:33Speaker 5: likes community, you know, he's he is a frat guy.
- 1:18:36Speaker 5: Frat guy has like a negative connotation. The positive of
- 1:18:40Speaker 5: it is like if you wanted to find the positive
- 1:18:42Speaker 5: in that is somebody who like wants like a friendship
- 1:18:46Speaker 5: fraternity to exist. So like he goes, let's all, why
- 1:18:51Speaker 5: don't we all just be friends and like hang out,
- 1:18:52Speaker 5: like let's make this fun. And I'm just like what,
- 1:18:55Speaker 5: I want to go be alone?
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: Like he's like, no, come on, Like he's always like
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: come join us, and like, you know, like that's.
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: As an observers, you guys have a very interesting dynamic.
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: You guys are both hilarious individuals in your own way,
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: but it's interesting to see how. I mean, I'm assuming
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: you guys are best friends. Would you call me your
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: best friend?
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: Yeah, we're Yes, we're best friends. And he's like, you know,
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: it is a it is a balance.
- 1:19:17Speaker 6: Like.
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: Part of the reason I think that it works for
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: us is that I thoroughly enjoy him, Like, like a
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: lot of people are like, how do you put up
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: with this fucking lunatic? And I'm like, yeah, but I
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: enjoy Like he entertains the shit out of me. I
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: find him. One of the first times we ever took
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: a road trip together is like years ago, and we
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: drove up to Sacramento and we're driving back down from
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: LA I mean it's like hours drive. I forget how
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: many hours it is. And then on the way back
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: from Sacramento, he goes, you know, you don't say much.
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: And I was like, you haven't shut the fuck up.
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: You haven't stopped talking, and he goes, yeah, that checks out.
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: That checks out.
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: But the thing is I was like, yeah, but I'm
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: I go I just literally I would ask him a question.
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: He would talk for thirty minutes straight, and then I
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: ask him one more question. An hour has gone by
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: with him just I mean, he's just talked talked about.
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: But I enjoy him, like I enjoy his company.
- 1:20:10Speaker 5: And then he thinks that I'm fucking weird, and I'm like,
- 1:20:16Speaker 5: I don't think I'm weird.
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: I think I'm pretty much like the voice of reason,
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: and you're fucking crazy, but I enjoy your craziness.
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: I know we got to let you go because people
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: are he's getting text, people are open the door, right,
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: But sledgehammer, sledgehammer, of all the specials you've done, what
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: makes you so proud of the special?
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: I mean, look, I don't know if this is something
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: that will always happen, like for me, it's like so
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: clearly for me, the like what I'm most proud of
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: I toured for usually I was on a two year turnaround, right,
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: and I felt I was felt fine about that, like
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: meaning like I would shoot a special, start working on
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: something new. Two years would go by and I'd shoot
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: another one and put it out. And pandemic contributed to this,
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: but it was three years and I just felt like
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: it got It's so much better, it's so much tighter.
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: I became a better.
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: Performer, Like I just I like the special so much more.
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: And you know, I just felt like it's a more
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: like you always want to get better instant, you know,
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: so you just like it feels like like whatever you
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: know evolved, like I've evolved as a person as a comic.
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: It's like it's more personal to me because like my
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: dad died during it and we were very close, and
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: I talk about it, even though I make jokes about
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: it obviously, but so like it's stuff that is like,
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: you know, it's more emotional for me, as much as
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: it's not like an emotional thing to watch. It's like
- 1:21:43Speaker 2: all that to me was like and it's a huge tour,
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: like the culmination of a of a twenty one month
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: tour is this special. So to me it's like, as
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: you know, it was the most fun I've ever had
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: shooting a special, like by far. And I don't know, man,
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: I'm just like it's been out for a couple of days.
- 1:22:03Speaker 5: It's number one on Netflix. It's the number one.
- 1:22:05Speaker 4: Yeah, it's got.
- 1:22:07Speaker 5: That's pretty cool.
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: So we see your Instagram.
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: No, no, but I mean like there's like an article
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: today about like how it dethroned, uh, that Henry Cavill
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: show The Witch or whatever.
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: I did see that, you know, when I saw that
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: on my Instagram Instagram.
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: Yeah, well said and I mean I was like, I
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: was like, yeah, dude, They're like, do you want to
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: post this?
- 1:22:28Speaker 4: I was like, yeah, of course, throw that up there
- 1:22:32Speaker 4: multiple times.
- 1:22:33Speaker 5: And the guy was so da the guy was so sassy.
- 1:22:37Speaker 5: Who wrote it?
- 1:22:38Speaker 6: Yeah, he was like, apparently this guy has five specials. Apparently,
- 1:22:43Speaker 6: like it's not like you can't find it, Like I
- 1:22:46Speaker 6: don't even know how to verify this, but apparently this
- 1:22:50Speaker 6: guy has five specials on Netflix and apparently people are
- 1:22:54Speaker 6: watching it. And I'm like, all right, man, that ship
- 1:22:56Speaker 6: to me is fun, but it's honestly, it's not even
- 1:22:58Speaker 6: about it's not about that.
- 1:23:00Speaker 5: It's about that.
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: Like I feel like when you do a special, it's
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: like when you're you're you've been in a kitchen, you
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: know what I mean, Like you've been making something and
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: you go.
- 1:23:11Speaker 5: Yeah, and you are you are excited.
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: I don't believe anybody that isn't excited for people to
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: like try it right, and yes, some people go this
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: tastes like ship, but a lot of people enjoy it
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: and then you go, well that feels good.
- 1:23:23Speaker 4: Yeah man, thank you, this is an honor.
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: Bro.
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: No, I'm super I'm sorry, I couldn't make it to
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: what would have been a horrific experience at the.
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: You're coming, You're coming in here. You don't be a ref.
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: You can be a ref next year.
- 1:23:36Speaker 4: You don't know.
- 1:23:36Speaker 5: Actually I might be fucking jack Fuck you guys up.
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: Dude, we didn't get to talk about it, but you've
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: looked really good. You've lost a lot of way.
- 1:23:46Speaker 4: He's got the what's it called the shor head.
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: He's got a short head bicep. Short heads. Short heads
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: play if we played them. You need the short heads.
