- 0:33Speaker 3: According to President Donald Trump, we are in high level
- 0:36Speaker 3: negotiations with Cuban officials. According to Cuban officials, that's not
- 0:41Speaker 3: happening at all. Let's roll Donald Trump from last weekend.
- 0:44Speaker 1: What do you want out of.
- 0:45Speaker 4: A Cuban deal?
- 0:47Speaker 3: Well, Cuba is a failing nation.
- 0:48Speaker 5: It has been for a long time, but now it
- 0:50Speaker 5: doesn't have Venezuela and all prop it up.
- 0:53Speaker 6: So we're talking to the people from Cube, the highest
- 0:56Speaker 6: people in Cuba. Let's see what happens.
- 0:58Speaker 7: I want the people that can here that we're horribly
- 1:01Speaker 7: created by Cuba.
- 1:02Speaker 5: To be taken care of, to be able to go
- 1:05Speaker 5: back and do what they have to do.
- 1:07Speaker 4: You know, they have their family there.
- 1:09Speaker 8: They haven't been able.
- 1:09Speaker 5: To sum in years, many many years.
- 1:12Speaker 6: So I think we're going to make a deal with Cuba.
- 1:17Speaker 5: Cubana, Cuba is a humanitarian Probably.
- 1:21Speaker 3: This set up a very odd situation where you had
- 1:24Speaker 3: both publicly, you had top Cuban officials saying they're not
- 1:29Speaker 3: talks happening, and privately the drop site, multiple Cuban officials
- 1:34Speaker 3: told us we would love to have talks about everything, democracy,
- 1:37Speaker 3: human rights, foreign direct foreign investment, Trump, Havana, like you
- 1:42Speaker 3: name it.
- 1:43Speaker 4: There they are.
- 1:46Speaker 3: They see that the objective conditions are changing, and they
- 1:49Speaker 3: are open to negotiations, like we will talk.
- 1:51Speaker 6: If you can do Mara Gaza, why not turn some
- 1:55Speaker 6: of that investment towards Havannah.
- 1:56Speaker 9: I mean all seriousness.
- 1:57Speaker 6: People like when you have Jared Kushner out at dot
- 2:00Speaker 6: being like, here's my slide.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Show, rightes, Yeah, exactly, and so so a senior Administration
- 2:07Speaker 3: official told us we were like, why is Trump saying that?
- 2:10Speaker 3: He said quote, He's saying that because that's what Marco
- 2:13Speaker 3: is telling him. So According to our sources, Marco Rubio
- 2:18Speaker 3: is telling Trump, yes, there are these high level negotiations
- 2:20Speaker 3: going on, with the idea being that in a couple
- 2:25Speaker 3: of weeks or a couple of months, he'll say, you know,
- 2:27Speaker 3: we tried and it didn't.
- 2:29Speaker 10: It didn't happen. They were Ricalca trant.
- 2:32Speaker 3: You know, you can't trust these these commies, so we
- 2:35Speaker 3: just need to do you know, complete and total regime change.
- 2:38Speaker 3: He wanted to do complete regime change in Venezuela. He
- 2:42Speaker 3: lost that argument, but he did get rid of Maduro.
- 2:45Speaker 3: He doesn't want to just replace the president of Cuba
- 2:48Speaker 3: with another president from the communist party.
- 2:51Speaker 6: Well, and that's a significant distinction between Venezuela and Cuba
- 2:55Speaker 6: at this point. I mean, Cuba has and you can
- 2:59Speaker 6: explain this better, but the odds that if you tap
- 3:02Speaker 6: in somebody in Cuba, you don't necessarily have a compliant
- 3:06Speaker 6: Delca Rodriguez in Cuba because you have this like vast infrastructure.
- 3:12Speaker 10: Although at this point you might like because there's that's
- 3:14Speaker 10: the question, they're so.
- 3:15Speaker 6: Beaten down right, But I mean, like Cuba has a
- 3:18Speaker 6: decades long tradition of communists, the.
- 3:21Speaker 4: One party state.
- 3:22Speaker 10: Yeah, uh so Trump has cut off all oil.
- 3:26Speaker 3: He is, and he he told Mexico, if you're sending oil,
- 3:29Speaker 3: you're getting tariffed and sanctioned. And so Cuba has responded
- 3:32Speaker 3: by cut, you know, cutting fuel to significant parts of
- 3:38Speaker 3: the island, focusing on the tourist area where that brings
- 3:41Speaker 3: in hard currency and nursing homes and hospitals. They're trying
- 3:47Speaker 3: to scale up solar panel installations as fast as they
- 3:51Speaker 3: possibly can. But it's it's dire, like it's it's a
- 3:55Speaker 3: crisis level situation.
- 3:57Speaker 10: Now it's now what's interesting.
- 3:59Speaker 3: Into this confusing situation came a report that there were
- 4:04Speaker 3: actually talks going on between Cuban officials and the CIA
- 4:08Speaker 3: in Mexico. And and look, let me be extremely clear,
- 4:13Speaker 3: that is possible. The CIA is capable of doing things
- 4:18Speaker 3: secretly that I am not immediately able to discover that
- 4:22Speaker 3: it is possible. Like, there are rumors out there that
- 4:25Speaker 3: John Radcliffe met with Rold Castro's son, Like that's that's
- 4:29Speaker 3: a rumor that's out there.
- 4:30Speaker 4: It might be true.
- 4:31Speaker 3: I don't know, I don't know where Radcliffe is every
- 4:33Speaker 3: single thing, Okay, so just saying that might be true,
- 4:36Speaker 3: I thought he was your boss.
- 4:37Speaker 4: Yeah, he runs all of this.
- 4:41Speaker 3: So but where where does the where does this news
- 4:44Speaker 3: actually come from? So let's put up this next elements.
- 4:47Speaker 3: This is an amazing kind of meta media story because
- 4:51Speaker 3: we're gonna we're going to talk about how kind of
- 4:54Speaker 3: news becomes news. So Politico wrote this article slash newsletter
- 4:59Speaker 3: with the headline could a Castro become our man in Havana?
- 5:03Speaker 3: And it's about these meetings between Raul Castro's the alleged
- 5:08Speaker 3: meetings between rules Raoul's Castro's son and the CIA happening
- 5:15Speaker 3: down in Mexico. But then, if you read through the
- 5:18Speaker 3: Politico report, here's basically a timeline of how this happens
- 5:21Speaker 3: to so February seconds political reports published to go backwards
- 5:24Speaker 3: February second article in fourteen y medio that basically reports
- 5:31Speaker 3: that these talks are happening. That's by a kind of
- 5:33Speaker 3: dissident blogger who lives in Havana and well known, well
- 5:40Speaker 3: known blogger who was critical of the government.
- 5:43Speaker 10: She had written that these talks were happening.
- 5:45Speaker 3: But then if you read through her post and you
- 5:48Speaker 3: click through it, you get to a January thirty first
- 5:51Speaker 3: post by Carlos Cabrera Perez. This timeline is incredible, but
- 5:55Speaker 3: on Facebook published in Spain. So this is a Spanish
- 6:00Speaker 3: There's a Cuban guy who lives in Spain and if
- 6:02Speaker 3: you read through I don't know if we have his
- 6:04Speaker 3: post here or not. If you read through his posts
- 6:06Speaker 3: you can find it linked to an art. Sorry, it
- 6:08Speaker 3: is complete and total gibberish. In fact, if you have
- 6:14Speaker 3: if you have any thoughts on that, I'll see if
- 6:16Speaker 3: I can find I'll find that.
- 6:18Speaker 8: Well.
- 6:18Speaker 6: No, it's I mean, like you were saying, it's a
- 6:21Speaker 6: quite a window into how news becomes news and how
- 6:23Speaker 6: things snowball like that. I mean, even so, it's pretty
- 6:27Speaker 6: This is pretty egregious. I know you see this stuff
- 6:30Speaker 6: from time to time, but this is pretty egregious.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Yeah, so this is so, Carlos writes on Facebook Exclusive
- 6:38Speaker 3: Breaking News General castro Espin. This is Alejandro katz or Espin,
- 6:43Speaker 3: who is Robel's son. Don't put his first name in
- 6:46Speaker 3: there or whatever. It returns to Havana, awaiting a response
- 6:50Speaker 3: from the White House.
- 6:50Speaker 4: Cuban, he writes.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Cuban in the United States concluded this morning local time
- 6:54Speaker 3: their first round of talks in Mexico with a quote
- 6:57Speaker 3: principle of agreement to initiate a transition to Democra, the
- 7:00Speaker 3: pending final approval of the White House. Unquote, reported a
- 7:03Speaker 3: source close to the government of Cloudias Shinbaum, who was
- 7:06Speaker 3: who has followed the plastics without participating in them. He'll
- 7:11Speaker 3: return this weekend to Havana. He's transferred to a senior
- 7:14Speaker 3: CIA official. And it's like, I can't read it. I
- 7:17Speaker 3: can't read this. It's like, you know, so like kind
- 7:21Speaker 3: of incoherent and weird and.
- 7:27Speaker 4: The like.
- 7:27Speaker 3: If you go through this, you're like, Okay, this is
- 7:30Speaker 3: just kind of Facebook slop. This is just total gibberish,
- 7:33Speaker 3: Like like I said, maybe Ratcliffe is meeting with Audre.
- 7:37Speaker 3: I don't know, ye, I certainly would not base it
- 7:41Speaker 3: on this article. So this article then gets turned into
- 7:44Speaker 3: a dissident article in Cuba, Politico picks it up, and
- 7:48Speaker 3: then in Washington it's like, oh, these talks are happening.
- 7:50Speaker 10: I guess these talks are happening. We put up this
- 7:52Speaker 10: next alum.
- 7:53Speaker 3: So I reached out to Politico and I was like, hey,
- 7:55Speaker 3: but just curious, like, did you guys have any information
- 7:58Speaker 3: that whether these talks are happening or not? And the
- 8:01Speaker 3: comment I got back from Politico is quote. As the
- 8:03Speaker 3: item makes clear, Politico was highlighting chatter about talks, not
- 8:09Speaker 3: reporting that talks had in fact taken place. Incredible Again,
- 8:13Speaker 3: maybe the talks are happening, but Politico is like, I'm
- 8:16Speaker 3: sorry you you thought that we were reporting something that
- 8:19Speaker 3: was happening.
- 8:20Speaker 4: No, no, no, no no, it was a metastory, a
- 8:23Speaker 4: meta story about chatter. It was chatter about talks.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Just relax, right, So, and the US spends tens of
- 8:30Speaker 3: millions of dollars every year funding these like dissident publications
- 8:35Speaker 3: around the world.
- 8:36Speaker 6: I mean, we're arguably, I mean I don't even I
- 8:38Speaker 6: haven't looked at the numbers yet, but that's probably the
- 8:40Speaker 6: bare bones remaining operation of USAI d.
- 8:43Speaker 3: YES because they got shut down and Rubio came back
- 8:46Speaker 3: in and saved all of that propaganda money. Now fourteen
- 8:49Speaker 3: y medio doesn't no evidence that they get it, but
- 8:52Speaker 3: other outlets that do get it, like picked then picked
- 8:55Speaker 3: up on this reporting.
- 8:56Speaker 9: Or people who were talking chatter.
- 8:58Speaker 4: So the US.
- 8:59Speaker 3: Funds, through this NED, which is CIA cut out, funds
- 9:04Speaker 3: these news outlets which like the source like some Facebook
- 9:10Speaker 3: slop and turn it into an article. And then Politico says, well,
- 9:13Speaker 3: there's chatter and it's news anyway. So maybe there's talks,
- 9:19Speaker 3: there's not talks, but we certainly have no way of
- 9:23Speaker 3: knowing from what we're being told.
- 9:24Speaker 6: Meanwhile, a mayor of a marezuela, if we call it
- 9:28Speaker 6: that is now we can put this last element up
- 9:30Speaker 6: on the screen, sending oil to Israel.
- 9:33Speaker 10: Yeah, it's crazy.
- 9:34Speaker 3: So yes, the US controls Venezuela's oil flows now and
- 9:39Speaker 3: through a middleman is brokering oil sales from Venezuela to Israel.
- 9:45Speaker 3: As the Venezuela and the current Venezuelan presidents that they're
- 9:48Speaker 3: committing a genocide, we should not do business with them.
- 9:51Speaker 10: Trump's like, I don't care what you want to do.
- 9:53Speaker 10: I'm in charge.
- 9:54Speaker 6: Well, if Venezuela is a template for potential activities in
- 9:59Speaker 6: Q but which obviously we are already talking about some
- 10:02Speaker 6: of the distinctions that are significant.
- 10:04Speaker 9: But if Trump sees some type of.
- 10:07Speaker 6: Limited operation where you end up with the vice president
- 10:10Speaker 6: in charge and a two year timetable or whatever they've
- 10:13Speaker 6: landed on in Venezuela towards democratic elections allegedly, then I
- 10:19Speaker 6: mean it's obvious. I'm just purely talking about this from
- 10:22Speaker 6: a political perspective.
- 10:25Speaker 9: We've talked about this before.
- 10:26Speaker 6: Imagine Trump sitting next to Raoul Castro watching a baseball game,
- 10:31Speaker 6: and it wouldn't be Raoul Castro now, but like that's
- 10:33Speaker 6: what Obama did and the write freaked out. You can
- 10:37Speaker 6: see Trump doing that right, Like, you could see Trump
- 10:41Speaker 6: easily doing something like that and understanding that he could
- 10:45Speaker 6: transform Havana back into what Roy Kohane and the people
- 10:49Speaker 6: Trump spent time with in the seventies and eighties remembered
- 10:52Speaker 6: from the forties and fifties. And again, this is not
- 10:55Speaker 6: a statement on whether that's good or bad. I'm just
- 10:57Speaker 6: saying the political opportunity for a thaw with Donald Trump right.
- 11:02Speaker 9: Off the coast where he has his own resorts.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Not only that, as we reported in the piece, and
- 11:08Speaker 3: I think it was eight, Trump registered the Trump Havanna
- 11:12Speaker 3: trademark and he has been re upping it every year.
- 11:15Speaker 9: That's fascinating.
- 11:16Speaker 4: So Trump is no.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Stranger to the potential benefits to American companies of ending
- 11:25Speaker 3: this blockade. And I keep hearing people online communism worked,
- 11:31Speaker 3: why does it have to ryle in the United States.
- 11:33Speaker 3: The US is blocking Mexico and Venezuela from sending oil
- 11:36Speaker 3: to Cuba. Like that is not just America not trading
- 11:40Speaker 3: with Cuba. They're not letting anybody trade with Cuba. And
- 11:42Speaker 3: they call them a state sponsor of terrorism, and so
- 11:45Speaker 3: that means that basically nobody in Europe or South America
- 11:48Speaker 3: anywhere else can do business with them because then they
- 11:49Speaker 3: will then get sanctioned. The latest thing they're saying is
- 11:52Speaker 3: that there's actually hesbal and Hamas. Yeah, Russian and China
- 11:57Speaker 3: because they have their they're a little bit immune from sanctions.
- 12:00Speaker 4: Yeah. Uh.
- 12:02Speaker 3: The latest thing is actually Cuba is like a hot
- 12:05Speaker 3: bed of like safe haven for HESBLA and Hamas, which
- 12:08Speaker 3: is like, what are you talking about? It turns out
- 12:10Speaker 3: there's like some Palestinian students.
- 12:11Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean, I don't.
- 12:12Speaker 3: Know Palestinians here in United States? Are we a hot
- 12:15Speaker 3: bed of like HESBLA?
- 12:18Speaker 9: You know how they would answer that question?
- 12:19Speaker 6: Like the little lawsuit against Ramesa, Oster wrote with the.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Answer was thrown out, by the way, Yeah, some good
- 12:24Speaker 3: news just yesterday, Yeah, the judge said drop this against this,
- 12:29Speaker 3: she wrote.
- 12:29Speaker 4: She co authored on off Ed Get off.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Of her to boycott literally the best support of a
- 12:36Speaker 3: tough support of a student Senate resolution that passed.
- 12:38Speaker 6: Yeah, so anyway you know how you had that question
- 12:41Speaker 6: would be answered. But I mean you and I would
- 12:44Speaker 6: disagree on potential nat SC threats that come from Cuba
- 12:50Speaker 6: if it's still hardened against the United States with Russia
- 12:54Speaker 6: and China. But but that's why there's an argument a conservative,
- 12:59Speaker 6: are you wan even for a thaw with CB But
- 13:02Speaker 6: it's actually kind of the argument Obama made.
- 13:04Speaker 4: They don't want this, doesn't want this, and it's.
- 13:07Speaker 9: Not good for anyone.
- 13:10Speaker 6: All right, right, let's go ahead now and talk about Iran.
- 13:15Speaker 3: So Benjamin Yahoo, I guess who's back. I'm back in
- 13:19Speaker 3: Washington yesterday. There's this weird thing that he does where
- 13:23Speaker 3: he always brings his dirty laundry. I think that clearly
- 13:26Speaker 3: he's just filling it with like listening devices because he's
- 13:29Speaker 3: been busted and Israeli the delegations have been busted like
- 13:33Speaker 3: inserting listening devices all over the place, including who is
- 13:36Speaker 3: the British Prime Minister Boris?
- 13:38Speaker 4: What's his name?
- 13:38Speaker 3: Who they bor was like, yeah, I caught like bugging my.
- 13:42Speaker 9: Bathroom, like so many such cases.
- 13:45Speaker 3: Basically, if Nana is really bringing his dirty laundry here,
- 13:49Speaker 3: he hasn't had to pay for his own laundry for
- 13:51Speaker 3: because for the last year, because like diplomats and you know,
- 13:55Speaker 3: visiting delegations, will we have this thing where we'll wash
- 13:58Speaker 3: wash your laundry for free. So anyway, he's back again.
- 14:01Speaker 3: He's back when we put this element on the screen.
- 14:04Speaker 3: He's back because he wants much a much more robust
- 14:10Speaker 3: attack on Iran. He's very frustrated that these talks are
- 14:13Speaker 3: still happening. So Barock Revied called Trump yesterday. Trump picks
- 14:16Speaker 3: up when Barack re calls, I love it, uh and says, yeah,
- 14:19Speaker 3: I might send a second carrier strike group right now.
- 14:21Speaker 10: We've got that Abraham Lincoln out there. But I'm gonna
- 14:23Speaker 10: hit him so hard.
- 14:24Speaker 3: You know they're they're not gonna they're not gonna know
- 14:26Speaker 3: what could you know possibly hit them?
- 14:29Speaker 4: He put up E two.
- 14:30Speaker 6: My favorite, by the way, I always mentioned this is
- 14:33Speaker 6: when Zelenski is taking a question from Barack Revied and says,
- 14:38Speaker 6: you always seem to know what's said on my phone, calls.
- 14:41Speaker 10: Yeah, no shape, this guy's scoot machine.
- 14:44Speaker 9: Well who was wasn't the idea.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Of uh, everybody, everybody in Israel who's Jewish has to
- 14:49Speaker 3: do idef I think he did.
- 14:52Speaker 4: Some type of intelligence.
- 14:54Speaker 10: I don't know.
- 14:54Speaker 3: I mean he was a reserve and he, you know,
- 14:57Speaker 3: uh publicly said during the protests around net Yahu's attempt
- 15:03Speaker 3: to take over the courts that like he joined the
- 15:05Speaker 3: reservists strike. He's like, I'm not going to serve as
- 15:10Speaker 3: long as you're trying to take over the courts. So
- 15:12Speaker 3: there are lines, and he's willing to draw.
- 15:17Speaker 4: So put up. E two is from New York Post.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Nervous net Yaho pushes pushes up trip to d C
- 15:23Speaker 3: for high stakes Trump talk as US huddles with a.
- 15:26Speaker 4: Run So nan Ya was supposed to come later.
- 15:29Speaker 3: But according to the New York Post and other reporting,
- 15:34Speaker 3: you know, he's he's frustrated that the attacks haven't happened yet,
- 15:37Speaker 3: or that Trump isn't sufficiently carrying Israel's water in these negotiations.
- 15:44Speaker 4: Because Trump keeps saying.
- 15:46Speaker 3: That these are nuclear talks and that he wants an
- 15:50Speaker 3: agreement around Iran's nuclear weapons. We've been told that that's
- 15:54Speaker 3: the big problem for a very long time. Yaho is saying, no, no, no,
- 15:59Speaker 3: it's not just that you also have to make them
- 16:04Speaker 3: get rid of their ballistic missile program, which would mean
- 16:08Speaker 3: that and and limit them so that they couldn't reach Israel,
- 16:11Speaker 3: which would mean that it would allow Israel then to
- 16:14Speaker 3: attack Iran whenever it wanted, and Iran could not defend
- 16:18Speaker 3: itself by by firing missiles.
- 16:21Speaker 4: Back at Israel.
- 16:22Speaker 3: They also want Nennah also wants Iran to stop supporting
- 16:27Speaker 3: Hamas Hezbola and the other kind of degraded proxies that
- 16:32Speaker 3: they have in the region. And so nen Yahu's saying,
- 16:35Speaker 3: if you if they don't agree to all these conditions,
- 16:37Speaker 3: which not like if you're iron, would you agree to
- 16:41Speaker 3: basically disarm.
- 16:44Speaker 4: No, So they're not going to agree.
- 16:47Speaker 3: They're not going to agree to that, And so then
- 16:49Speaker 3: he wants Trump to bomb them again on Israel's bath.
- 16:52Speaker 6: Well, and so this is I think one of the
- 16:54Speaker 6: significant points is you have nets and Yahu, who was
- 16:59Speaker 6: urging obviously urging US action in the Twelve Day War,
- 17:02Speaker 6: got his wish, and lots of now who allies in
- 17:05Speaker 6: her own government, got their wishes.
- 17:06Speaker 9: Trump is very proud of Operation Midnight Hammer.
- 17:09Speaker 6: So to make this argument that there's still a nuclear
- 17:12Speaker 6: Iranian threat undercuts the argument Trump made for Midnight Hammer.
- 17:17Speaker 6: And so that's the disconnect that needs to be explained
- 17:21Speaker 6: to Trump in case.
- 17:22Speaker 3: Keep telling you that it was the most beautiful thing,
- 17:25Speaker 3: and the pilots were so proud. And then CNN said
- 17:28Speaker 3: they missed and the pilot's cried, and that was so
- 17:30Speaker 3: rude of CNN treeson us. They should be locked up
- 17:33Speaker 3: and look, and so now Netanyahuo's like going to make
- 17:37Speaker 3: the pilots cry again.
- 17:38Speaker 6: Well, you remember, I mean, the week after Midnight Hammer,
- 17:42Speaker 6: the conversation or the debate was over exactly how much
- 17:46Speaker 6: damage was done to the nuclear sites, and there were
- 17:49Speaker 6: one conflicting reports all over the place, and it started
- 17:55Speaker 6: to look, I mean, the administration's claims to have had
- 17:58Speaker 6: this generational white out that set Iran back years and
- 18:02Speaker 6: years that was already dubious at the time. And now
- 18:06Speaker 6: you Haventyah who essentially making that same argument again. Right,
- 18:11Speaker 6: so Trump who was touting this generational wipeout of Iran's
- 18:15Speaker 6: nuclear technology.
- 18:16Speaker 4: Right?
- 18:17Speaker 3: And and also you you've had Netanyah who privately admit
- 18:22Speaker 3: in meeting minutes that have since been leaked and made
- 18:24Speaker 3: public that Iran was years away from a bomb. When
- 18:30Speaker 3: when Netanyahu talks on the American media, he says he
- 18:34Speaker 3: would say that there were days or weeks away, and
- 18:37Speaker 3: we need to move now. When he speaks privately, they're
- 18:41Speaker 3: years away, right, So there were years away before those
- 18:45Speaker 3: beautiful B one bombers and then in the brilliant bombers
- 18:49Speaker 3: and out their mission.
- 18:51Speaker 6: This was the argument at the time that the goalpost
- 18:54Speaker 6: is always being shifted, Yes, always being shifted. So you
- 18:57Speaker 6: can risk starting a game of nuclear chess over claims
- 19:02Speaker 6: that are going to change, you know, a week later,
- 19:04Speaker 6: even if you do it.
- 19:06Speaker 4: Right right, and you can imagine anyway.
- 19:08Speaker 3: So, uh, Trump is meeting with Wick, Coff and Kushner.
- 19:13Speaker 3: Ahead of this meeting, we'll see I want to watch polymarket.
- 19:19Speaker 6: See who's putting any money down. Maybe that's Wick Cooff
- 19:22Speaker 6: gets some.
- 19:23Speaker 4: With the Wick boys here.
- 19:25Speaker 3: Yeah, so well there'll be I'm sure interesting press conference
- 19:29Speaker 3: later in the in the Oval office.
- 19:31Speaker 9: Well no, so it's closed door.
- 19:32Speaker 6: This is also interesting because it's a midterm year and
- 19:35Speaker 6: the argument, seemingly from the.
- 19:36Speaker 4: Wild they're not going to do the spray and all that.
- 19:38Speaker 6: Yeah, seemingly the argument from the Wilds camp is that
- 19:41Speaker 6: there's been too much, well too much focus on foreign
- 19:44Speaker 6: policy and that Trump was constantly having foreign dignitaries you
- 19:47Speaker 6: hear this, Margier Tayler Green in and out and making
- 19:50Speaker 6: big shows of it because Trump loves looking like he's
- 19:53Speaker 6: the alpha in these pressers.
- 19:57Speaker 9: But today's meeting so far is closed door.
- 19:59Speaker 6: Sometime times that change is literally the last minute, like
- 20:02Speaker 6: minute before it's set to happen.
- 20:03Speaker 10: So we'll see you're going to be there.
- 20:06Speaker 6: I was at the last one and it was so
- 20:08Speaker 6: crowded and they took one question or something like that,
- 20:11Speaker 6: so I feel like it's not entirely worth my time.
- 20:15Speaker 3: So some interesting developments in the the Nancy Guthrie, Yes, kidnapping,
- 20:20Speaker 3: so speaking of espionage, yeah and so, and things are
- 20:26Speaker 3: coming together in an interesting way for a ring. Ring
- 20:29Speaker 3: had this super Bowl ad where they're like, hey, we're
- 20:33Speaker 3: watching everybody and we'll find your puppy.
- 20:35Speaker 6: Well, let's actually just roll it. Yeah, we have this ad.
- 20:37Speaker 6: You probably caught it during the Super Bowl. Ring Bear
- 20:40Speaker 6: in Mind is owned by Amazon. Nest Bear in Mind
- 20:44Speaker 6: is owned by Google. So this was Ring's super Bowl
- 20:48Speaker 6: ad that rubbed a lot of people rightfully the wrong way.
- 20:51Speaker 8: F three.
- 20:52Speaker 4: This is mil Hetzer family.
- 20:55Speaker 7: But every year ten million go missing, and the way
- 20:58Speaker 7: we look for them hasn't changed years until now one
- 21:03Speaker 7: coast of a dog's photo in the Ring app starts
- 21:05Speaker 7: outdoor cameras looking for a match. Search Party from Ring
- 21:08Speaker 7: uses AI to help families find lost dogs. Since launch,
- 21:11Speaker 7: more than a dog a day has been reunited with
- 21:13Speaker 7: their family. Be a hero in your neighborhood with search
- 21:16Speaker 7: party available to everyone for free right now, join the
- 21:20Speaker 7: neighborhood at Ring dot com.
- 21:22Speaker 6: We welcome our overlords. This this is called the pet
- 21:26Speaker 6: Protection Panopticon.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Also Mac Mac producer Max is pointing out before the show,
- 21:31Speaker 3: wasn't it that they said ten million a day, I
- 21:32Speaker 3: mean ten million a year are lost? I don't know,
- 21:34Speaker 3: And they said more than one a day, So roughly
- 21:38Speaker 3: four hundred are returned in a year, So four hundred
- 21:41Speaker 3: out of ten million. And also of that four hundred,
- 21:45Speaker 3: like three hundred and fifty were probably found, like you know,
- 21:49Speaker 3: three doors up right, and we would have found them anyway.
- 21:52Speaker 3: So out of ten million, like, how many did Ring
- 21:56Speaker 3: actually recover?
- 21:57Speaker 4: Yeah, well that wouldn't have been found otherwise.
- 22:00Speaker 6: And this is about to get really dark because it's
- 22:02Speaker 6: the FBI in this Nancy Guthree case, which is horrible
- 22:06Speaker 6: and keeps lingering and seems to be picking up The
- 22:10Speaker 6: investigation seems to be picking up steam just the last
- 22:12Speaker 6: forty eight hours. The FBI released a series of photos
- 22:16Speaker 6: and videos yesterday, So this is F one. This is
- 22:18Speaker 6: going to be a mashup of some of what was released.
- 22:22Speaker 6: So you can see a man in a mask go
- 22:25Speaker 6: right up to the NEST camera on Nancy Guthrie's doors
- 22:29Speaker 6: and gloves.
- 22:31Speaker 9: Looks like a white dude and I would say like.
- 22:34Speaker 6: Young ish thirties forties, maybe kind of tall, comes in
- 22:39Speaker 6: and then ends up actually disabling the camera. So also
- 22:44Speaker 6: people saying, looks like, I agree, a gun strapped on him,
- 22:48Speaker 6: and of course goes in and then we know there's
- 22:51Speaker 6: blood on the porch from News Nations reporting. So someone
- 22:54Speaker 6: comes in grabs what looks like he looks like he's
- 22:57Speaker 6: grabbing a bird's nest that was behind the actual camera.
- 23:01Speaker 6: So comes in and then we know there's blood on
- 23:03Speaker 6: the porch. So that does not look good for the
- 23:05Speaker 6: prospect of finding Nancy Guthrie, eighty four year old mom
- 23:08Speaker 6: of Savannah Guthrie of NBC. And people noticed, huh, this
- 23:14Speaker 6: is nest footage, it says Nest on the footage. Interesting
- 23:18Speaker 6: because investigators said she did not have a subscription to nest.
- 23:24Speaker 6: That was a point made by the Pima County Sheriff,
- 23:28Speaker 6: Kris Nanos. He said right after she disappeared that a
- 23:32Speaker 6: camera NBC reports a fix to her door had been disconnected,
- 23:36Speaker 6: that she did not have a subscription that would have
- 23:38Speaker 6: saved video, and that investigators were trying to work with
- 23:40Speaker 6: a tech company on the difficult forensic task of recovering
- 23:43Speaker 6: any video.
- 23:44Speaker 9: Well what does that mean?
- 23:46Speaker 6: Because if you don't have a subscription and your camera
- 23:49Speaker 6: is disconnected, how could there be any forensic task, even
- 23:54Speaker 6: a difficult one that would result in recovering video. So
- 24:00Speaker 6: Cash Patel is now saying the FBI got the video
- 24:03Speaker 6: from Quote back end Systems. Again, this is a company
- 24:07Speaker 6: that is owned by Alphabet. Ring is the competitor owned
- 24:10Speaker 6: by Amazon. These are not random small businesses. Yeah, these
- 24:15Speaker 6: are defense contracting companies, right that is I mean the
- 24:20Speaker 6: pitch is going to be if if this information she's
- 24:23Speaker 6: disconnected or whatever, it helps them find Nancy Guthrie. God bless,
- 24:27Speaker 6: We're all going to be so happy. It is going
- 24:29Speaker 6: to become a pitch, just like the Puppy Ring commercial
- 24:33Speaker 6: that you need these everyone put a camera on your door,
- 24:36Speaker 6: because we'll be able to scan people's eyes, we'll be
- 24:39Speaker 6: able to find people in these emergency situations. Doesn't matter
- 24:45Speaker 6: if you have a subscription, we're watching.
- 24:47Speaker 10: Yeah, and who's back end the nsas Like.
- 24:51Speaker 3: It's crazy nice cash would be a little more forthcoming
- 24:55Speaker 3: about where this footage came from.
- 24:57Speaker 9: Back end systems.
- 24:58Speaker 3: Yeah, so once again everybody's suspicion feels like these things
- 25:03Speaker 3: are listening to me. No, you're crazy. They're not listening
- 25:06Speaker 3: to you. Up later admit, yeah, they're actually listening to or.
- 25:09Speaker 9: Just disconnected, right if you're worried, just disconnected.
- 25:12Speaker 3: Yeah, or yeah, and it's if it's not storing the footage,
- 25:16Speaker 3: if you don't have a subscription, or if you don't
- 25:18Speaker 3: pay for the like higher end subscription. Yep, got my
- 25:23Speaker 3: car stolen and the police are like, got the footage?
- 25:27Speaker 10: And I was like no, but it turns out maybe
- 25:29Speaker 10: they did.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Well, like we don't pay for any Well, now we
- 25:32Speaker 3: do the local we pay for everything and don't come
- 25:35Speaker 3: anywhere near us, but at the time we did not,
- 25:39Speaker 3: So I like, no, but so we don't have the
- 25:43Speaker 3: footage because we aren't paying for this like storage or whatever.
- 25:46Speaker 9: Well, the locales might not the federal government might.
- 25:49Speaker 10: To your point, exactly, somebody's got it.
- 25:50Speaker 6: Because the local police said, well, she didn't have a subscription,
- 25:53Speaker 6: it was disconnected, and then the FBI swoops in a
- 25:55Speaker 6: week later and says, we got it from back end systems.
- 25:58Speaker 6: The argument, of course, is going to be if we
- 26:01Speaker 6: find out, they're going to say that it's stored, it's
- 26:05Speaker 6: encrypted and only used for training these AI systems or whatever,
- 26:08Speaker 6: which is not inocuous.
- 26:10Speaker 9: It doesn't even sound innocuous.
- 26:11Speaker 6: But that's there's potentially just a capitalist explanation behind all
- 26:16Speaker 6: of this. There's probably something darker too if this turns
- 26:18Speaker 6: out to be the case, but it's that they're training
- 26:20Speaker 6: their AI. Even if you don't have a subscription, they're
- 26:23Speaker 6: training their AI and you never have access to it.
- 26:26Speaker 6: So insane, insane detail that people were right to pick
- 26:30Speaker 6: up on. When you have the local sheriff saying no subscription,
- 26:33Speaker 6: is disconnected and then the FBI swooping in a week
- 26:35Speaker 6: later and saying we recovered the video. Quite interesting and
- 26:39Speaker 6: we'll see this is a new development, so we're gonna
- 26:42Speaker 6: have to see how Google responds.
- 26:44Speaker 3: And speaking of completely insane things, we didn't cover this
- 26:47Speaker 3: because we don't know what the f is going on.
- 26:50Speaker 3: But as you may have seen, the FAI announced that
- 26:53Speaker 3: for ten days they're closing the airspace over El Paso.
- 26:56Speaker 9: Has happened early this morning.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Yeah, now saying that, like what shooting at drones like
- 27:04Speaker 3: cartel drones, that's a highly suspicious answer.
- 27:09Speaker 10: What on earth is going on in l Pass?
- 27:10Speaker 3: So we know that they have the what Camp Montana,
- 27:13Speaker 3: the massive detention facility inside for Bliss.
- 27:19Speaker 4: Shutting it all down for ten days?
- 27:21Speaker 10: Did they catch aliens?
- 27:23Speaker 3: Actual aliens, not like illegal like extra I mean, like
- 27:28Speaker 3: not from Mexico aliens.
- 27:30Speaker 6: In about a matter of like two hours, they went
- 27:32Speaker 6: from a ten day closure to just a total removal
- 27:38Speaker 6: of the FA notice.
- 27:40Speaker 4: So so it's back open.
- 27:41Speaker 9: It's back open.
- 27:42Speaker 6: So you can bet Sager will have thoughts on that
- 27:46Speaker 6: for tomorrow's edition of Breaking Points. Ryan closes out here
- 27:52Speaker 6: with this interview you did with a New Jersey pri.
- 27:57Speaker 3: Americ Canada and so an Alilia Mahea defeated a wide
- 28:00Speaker 3: field of candidates, including the like local party boss, including
- 28:05Speaker 3: the APAX supported candidate, and including former Representative Tom Malanowski,
- 28:10Speaker 3: who was who had been pulling slightly ahead, although he
- 28:14Speaker 3: was always a very credible candidate in this race because
- 28:16Speaker 3: she had the backing of AOC, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Bernie Sanders,
- 28:19Speaker 3: the entire kind of infrastructure, plus all the mo mentum
- 28:23Speaker 3: behind it. There was a moment in the primary for
- 28:28Speaker 3: people who were paying close attention to the district that
- 28:30Speaker 3: went viral locally and even a little bit nationally. At
- 28:34Speaker 3: a care New Jersey forum, all of the candidates were asked,
- 28:39Speaker 3: in a kind of repeat of the New York Mom
- 28:43Speaker 3: Donnie debate, if they but they were asked, will you
- 28:47Speaker 3: refuse an APAX sponsored a pro Israel lobby sponsored trip
- 28:52Speaker 3: to Israel?
- 28:53Speaker 4: Only?
- 28:54Speaker 3: And and do you believe that Israel's committing and genid?
- 28:58Speaker 3: Let's let's roll that clip because I think you're going
- 28:59Speaker 3: to see, like how she kind of separated herself here,
- 29:04Speaker 3: I showed hands.
- 29:05Speaker 8: Who here would publicly it's inclined to participate in a
- 29:08Speaker 8: freshman congressional trip to Israel sponsored by proswel Horn efficacy organizations.
- 29:17Speaker 3: Do you agree with the United Nations Commission of Inquiry
- 29:20Speaker 3: and many other human rights organizations that Israel has committed
- 29:24Speaker 3: a genocide in Gossam?
- 29:26Speaker 4: Showing the hands?
- 29:27Speaker 7: If you agree with the Nation's inquiry that Israel has
- 29:31Speaker 7: committed a genocide in Gossen.
- 29:34Speaker 4: Wow, please talk.
- 29:36Speaker 1: Right now, because this is not a fair question because
- 29:40Speaker 1: side is dividing world.
- 29:41Speaker 7: Okay, so we just dividing wet side of the other.
- 29:44Speaker 3: And in Jimmy Carter, who's the only person who Thank
- 29:48Speaker 3: you Zich.
- 29:49Speaker 4: You cannot get peace.
- 29:50Speaker 8: You cannot peace.
- 29:53Speaker 4: Si divis sorry, thank you Jose.
- 29:57Speaker 3: And so last night, while Emily was partying at this
- 30:01Speaker 3: YouTube conference, I sat down with an.
- 30:04Speaker 6: Alilia may not producers mag and Griffin.
- 30:08Speaker 3: There's like a conference in DC for like creators. We
- 30:11Speaker 3: have to rap soon because Emily's going to do a
- 30:14Speaker 3: panel with Sager.
- 30:15Speaker 10: Is that right? Who's who's on the panel. Somebody's on
- 30:18Speaker 10: the panel in any event.
- 30:19Speaker 3: So here this is a pre recorded interview from last
- 30:22Speaker 3: night with Mahea, who is now on her way. Is
- 30:26Speaker 3: the Democratic nominee for this district and the special election
- 30:31Speaker 3: is coming up in April against a against the Republican
- 30:35Speaker 3: challenger there. She'll then have to recompete for the primary
- 30:39Speaker 3: in June. Here's my conversation with Mayhea. Joining us now
- 30:43Speaker 3: is Antlilia Mahea, who just yesterday was declared the official
- 30:49Speaker 3: victor Tom Malinowski on Tuesday conceded that there wouldn't be
- 30:54Speaker 3: enough votes for him to mount a comeback with the
- 30:58Speaker 3: final tallies in New Jerseys eleventh Strict, which makes her
- 31:01Speaker 3: the Democratic nominee headed towards the general election. Its problem,
- 31:06Speaker 3: an Alilia, thank you so much for joining us.
- 31:09Speaker 8: Thank you, thank you for having me. It's nice to
- 31:11Speaker 8: see you again. It's nice to see you.
- 31:13Speaker 4: Too, it has been.
- 31:14Speaker 3: And one of the kind of privileges that I get
- 31:17Speaker 3: in kind of covering the progressive world now for twenty
- 31:20Speaker 3: years or so is to see people move from one
- 31:25Speaker 3: organization to another and one cause that's all the same cause,
- 31:30Speaker 3: watch them kind of rise through the ranks, and then
- 31:32Speaker 3: once in a while somebody becomes a member of Congress
- 31:37Speaker 3: that you don't.
- 31:37Speaker 4: Expect, you and me, both, you and me both.
- 31:43Speaker 3: And in your advocacy world, we refer to those people
- 31:47Speaker 3: as electeds.
- 31:49Speaker 4: Yes, I don't know.
- 31:50Speaker 3: I don't know if the regular people know that it's
- 31:53Speaker 3: a weird phrase because it's not. I don't know what
- 31:55Speaker 3: kind of word is that electeds.
- 31:56Speaker 8: Yeah, Usually I shorten it to EO elected official. I'm like,
- 32:00Speaker 8: that's an.
- 32:00Speaker 3: EO, that's an EO over there, so now you are
- 32:03Speaker 3: on the way to becoming an EO. So let's yes. Well,
- 32:06Speaker 3: first of all, tell people the general election. Kamala Harris
- 32:09Speaker 3: won this district by what eight points or something like that.
- 32:12Speaker 3: So what there's a moderate? Well they call them moderate,
- 32:16Speaker 3: So we'll borrow the mainstream media's phrasing. There Republican running
- 32:20Speaker 3: in this district. What's the race looking like? And when
- 32:25Speaker 3: is the general election?
- 32:27Speaker 8: For the special I mean, I'm going to say I
- 32:29Speaker 8: reject the idea that they're my opponent is actually a moderate.
- 32:32Speaker 8: I think anyone that won't denounce what Trump the Trump
- 32:35Speaker 8: administration is doing, won't openly denounce what Ice is doing
- 32:39Speaker 8: to American citizens, won't openly denounce the turning of weaponry
- 32:44Speaker 8: on American citizens that are protecting and exerting their constitutional rights,
- 32:50Speaker 8: that is extremism to me. But I you know, this
- 32:55Speaker 8: special election was to fill the seat vacated by Mikey
- 32:58Speaker 8: Cheryl when she became governor. Candidates essentially had ten weeks
- 33:03Speaker 8: to run at the most compressed timeline. That ten week
- 33:07Speaker 8: period began in Thanksgiving Thanksgiving week, when we had to
- 33:11Speaker 8: collect signatures to get on the ballot vote by mail.
- 33:15Speaker 8: Ballots were released right before on December twenty second, right
- 33:20Speaker 8: before the holidays, and then we held the special primary
- 33:25Speaker 8: on Thursday, February fifth, that's a Thursday only in Jersey, y'all.
- 33:30Speaker 8: But we were able to emerge victorious, even though you know,
- 33:34Speaker 8: I jumped in late. But we as organizers, if you know,
- 33:38Speaker 8: as you shared, I come from movement. I ran the
- 33:43Speaker 8: New Jersey Working Families Party. Obviously I worked for Bernie.
- 33:46Speaker 8: I was this national political director, and my day job
- 33:51Speaker 8: has been to be the co director of the Center
- 33:53Speaker 8: for Popular Democracy, which is this network of base building
- 33:57Speaker 8: power building organizations. But you know, we as an organizer,
- 34:01Speaker 8: someone with that kind of experience would hit the ground.
- 34:04Speaker 8: We knocked on doors, hundreds of thousands of phone calls,
- 34:07Speaker 8: and we emerge victorious almost two to one on election day,
- 34:11Speaker 8: which I feel really proud about.
- 34:13Speaker 3: And what's what's so intimidating to me about congressional districts
- 34:17Speaker 3: is there is there vast size like this, seven hundred
- 34:21Speaker 3: thousand or plus people like that's that's just a staggering
- 34:25Speaker 3: number of people. You can't yes, no, you can't meet
- 34:28Speaker 3: every single one of them. Now in a primary like this,
- 34:31Speaker 3: you end up needing you know, a much smaller handful
- 34:34Speaker 3: of votes. So so when when you went into this race,
- 34:40Speaker 3: we're talking about North Jersey like me. Now, they're working
- 34:44Speaker 3: class parts of every congressional district.
- 34:46Speaker 4: So it's it's something.
- 34:47Speaker 8: This is suburban Jersey. This is a commuter town. Folks
- 34:51Speaker 8: usually live here because they work in the city. They
- 34:54Speaker 8: want access to the infrastructure, you know, the green space
- 34:58Speaker 8: or schools.
- 34:59Speaker 3: They work in fine finance, they work in pharma, arma
- 35:02Speaker 3: one of pharma. Yeah, so you won.
- 35:06Speaker 4: You know, hedge funds, hedge fund guys, hedge fund women,
- 35:10Speaker 4: private equity, pharma execs, like how like what, okay, what
- 35:15Speaker 4: did you do?
- 35:16Speaker 8: Well? The first thing I'll tell you is I live
- 35:18Speaker 8: in this district. Even progressives live in the verbs. I've
- 35:23Speaker 8: been here for thirteen years, some of them, some of us.
- 35:26Speaker 8: Here's here's the deal. The truth is this economy is
- 35:30Speaker 8: hitting everybody. See when you double and triple healthcare costs,
- 35:35Speaker 8: even it's individual you know, small business owners, professionals, doctors, lawyers, architects,
- 35:43Speaker 8: my neighbors, we're all complaining about the fact that they
- 35:46Speaker 8: could no longer afford healthcare insurance right and to manage
- 35:51Speaker 8: their families when child care costs are upwards of twenty
- 35:56Speaker 8: four twenty eight thirty thousand dollars a year. I pay
- 35:59Speaker 8: twenty four thousand dollars a year for childcare. So when
- 36:02Speaker 8: you're talking about that kind of expense or we may
- 36:07Speaker 8: not turn, we may not spiral off the price of eggs.
- 36:11Speaker 8: But you can bine all those things, rising healthcare costs,
- 36:15Speaker 8: rising childcare costs. You know, these tariffs impacted small business
- 36:20Speaker 8: owners wildly, and so you combine all of that that
- 36:24Speaker 8: was impacting community. I've lived here, I'm an organizer. I
- 36:27Speaker 8: talked to my neighbors. I knew it. So my message
- 36:31Speaker 8: was we need to remove the stranglehold that big money
- 36:37Speaker 8: has on our economy and our democracy. We have to
- 36:41Speaker 8: remember that an oligarch is or an authoritarian is simply
- 36:46Speaker 8: a corrupt politician who has gotten a taste from stealing
- 36:50Speaker 8: from the people, and they want to keep the grift going,
- 36:54Speaker 8: so they have to be they have to deter any
- 36:56Speaker 8: kind of accountability. And an oligarch is essentially a corporate
- 37:00Speaker 8: interests that had gotten the taste of stealing from their consumers,
- 37:03Speaker 8: from their clients, from their workers, and they want to
- 37:06Speaker 8: keep the grift going, and so they need less regulation.
- 37:09Speaker 8: In order to keep it, keep the jig up right.
- 37:12Speaker 8: And so the thing that stands between the authoritarian and
- 37:16Speaker 8: the oligarch is an informed community. So I was knocking
- 37:19Speaker 8: on doors talking to people pointing that out, and that resonate.
- 37:22Speaker 8: That message resonated with folks.
- 37:25Speaker 3: Yeah, in my own life, I've I talked to plenty
- 37:27Speaker 3: of these upper middle class professional types and they know
- 37:32Speaker 3: that I have been kind of covering the Bernie AOC
- 37:34Speaker 3: world for as long as they've known me, and so
- 37:37Speaker 3: they'll talk to me at the soccer games or whatever
- 37:40Speaker 3: about this stuff.
- 37:41Speaker 4: And twenty fourteen, fifteen sixteen, there.
- 37:44Speaker 3: Was a lot of hostility from them to that world,
- 37:48Speaker 3: like they they saw him as kind of hostile to
- 37:52Speaker 3: their interests in what they thought the Democratic Party ought
- 37:54Speaker 3: to because these are mostly Democrats for the most part.
- 37:57Speaker 3: You know, that started to soften a little bit with
- 37:59Speaker 3: with aos see, but twenty twenty they were still quite
- 38:02Speaker 3: skeptical of Bernie. But now they're like, I think I
- 38:07Speaker 3: think Bernie actually was right. They're open to him. They're
- 38:11Speaker 3: definitely open to AOC who like they now think of
- 38:15Speaker 3: as like a normy Democrat. And I think part of
- 38:18Speaker 3: it is that they believe that they're probably okay themselves,
- 38:21Speaker 3: whether they're not necessarily sure, but they're very worried about
- 38:25Speaker 3: their kids, about what this country's becoming and right for
- 38:28Speaker 3: their kids. Not the types of people that have like
- 38:31Speaker 3: generational wealth, they're going to help their kids. They them
- 38:34Speaker 3: in the nice schools, are going to help them through college,
- 38:37Speaker 3: but they're not going to like set them up for life.
- 38:40Speaker 3: And so did you see that too?
- 38:42Speaker 4: Like what is.
- 38:42Speaker 5: Absolutely absolutely I had folks talk about how they may
- 38:48Speaker 5: be able to afford, they may have been able to
- 38:51Speaker 5: afford to buy a home, but they're worried about what's
- 38:53Speaker 5: going to happen to their children. And the fact that
- 38:56Speaker 5: private equity firms are buying up starter homes resonates with
- 39:00Speaker 5: them and anchors them talking about how we have to
- 39:03Speaker 5: regulate That hits a nerve because they could see that
- 39:08Speaker 5: this basic thing that they took for granted for themselves
- 39:11Speaker 5: is going to be out of reach for their children.
- 39:13Speaker 5: When I talk to folks about, like I said, health insurance,
- 39:16Speaker 5: I talked to a neighbor whose husband is a doctor.
- 39:21Speaker 5: They are professionals, and they were discussing shifting from comprehensive
- 39:26Speaker 5: health insurance to catastrophic so that they could continue to
- 39:30Speaker 5: afford their child's tuition. And this is a doctor. So
- 39:36Speaker 5: we have across this district. What I know, what I've
- 39:41Speaker 5: learned in the thirteen years that I've lived here, talking
- 39:43Speaker 5: to my neighbors, engaging people. And this is probably true
- 39:46Speaker 5: across America that in our communities, you know, especially places
- 39:51Speaker 5: in which you know on paper seen like they are
- 39:53Speaker 5: economically stable, right, high home ownership, high education levels. People
- 39:59Speaker 5: stretch to be here. And so if you lose a client,
- 40:02Speaker 5: if you're a contractor you lose a client, or if
- 40:05Speaker 5: the prices for your small business go up, or just
- 40:08Speaker 5: the instability of the moment make create that precariousness, you
- 40:13Speaker 5: start to spin, you increase your dependence on credit card
- 40:17Speaker 5: debt or credit cards, you find yourself in credit card debt.
- 40:20Speaker 5: Maybe you are house rich for cash poor. And so
- 40:24Speaker 5: this economy is in fact hitting working class, working poor,
- 40:29Speaker 5: and middle class people. And it's not surprising because we
- 40:33Speaker 5: have an like an unfair and imbalance in our economy
- 40:38Speaker 5: and our democracy. I mean, Bernie said it over and over.
- 40:41Speaker 5: It's the billionaire class are trying to buy our democracy,
- 40:46Speaker 5: and they're willing to trade democracy for an extra zero
- 40:50Speaker 5: in their offshore bank account. You add that to the
- 40:54Speaker 5: violence you are seeing in Minnesota and Chicago, in California
- 40:59Speaker 5: and in this district. Just today, I heard about shots
- 41:04Speaker 5: being fired in Roxberry, New Jersey, just outside the district.
- 41:09Speaker 5: We had on a Sunday morning, ice agents go to
- 41:14Speaker 5: an early Sunday morning, go into a laundrymat and arrest
- 41:18Speaker 5: a teenager. We know that we have this precarious situation
- 41:24Speaker 5: happening across the country, and people are concerned right to you.
- 41:28Speaker 3: So and I feel like it's I'm curious if you've
- 41:31Speaker 3: got this sense from people that it's two sides of
- 41:33Speaker 3: the same coin, in the sense that they elected Trump.
- 41:37Speaker 3: The country elected Trump because they wanted egg prices down
- 41:40Speaker 3: and you know, grocery prices down, and it was a
- 41:43Speaker 3: stand in. Those things were a stand in for things
- 41:46Speaker 3: for getting unaffordable. And instead we get this chaos and
- 41:49Speaker 3: this violence. And so it's not just that they're against that,
- 41:53Speaker 3: it's that this seems to be the only thing that
- 41:56Speaker 3: Trump cares about. Is that why, Like, I mean, did
- 42:00Speaker 3: it resonate on both levels for people?
- 42:03Speaker 8: Yes?
- 42:04Speaker 5: Absolutely, I mean, you know, I saw a turning point
- 42:10Speaker 5: after the murder of missus good.
- 42:15Speaker 8: In Minnesota.
- 42:17Speaker 5: I saw folks who were very concerned about what was
- 42:22Speaker 5: happening and how they could protect community. I saw folks who,
- 42:27Speaker 5: you know, most certainly when mister Pretty was murdered, also
- 42:31Speaker 5: just find themselves in complete and utter shock. We had
- 42:35Speaker 5: been having town halls in which we incorporated ice trainings
- 42:40Speaker 5: to make sure that people understood their rights, so that
- 42:44Speaker 5: people understood the difference between a judicial warrant and a
- 42:48Speaker 5: administrative warrant, so that they understood how they would protect
- 42:51Speaker 5: themselves from undo an unfair illegal search and seizures. And
- 42:57Speaker 5: you know, I to speaking to the chaos. People are
- 43:01Speaker 5: very very concerned about what they are seeing out of
- 43:03Speaker 5: this administration. Most people, what they desire is just the
- 43:07Speaker 5: ability to live their lives, raise their kids, have an
- 43:10Speaker 5: opportunity and call it a day, you know, watch the
- 43:14Speaker 5: Super Bowl, to hang out with your friends. And what
- 43:17Speaker 5: we are finding is this increasing not only divisiveness, which
- 43:21Speaker 5: you know, a lot of times we have seen in
- 43:22Speaker 5: our country for sure. I mean, this is a nation
- 43:25Speaker 5: that has had its ups and downs, but what we
- 43:28Speaker 5: are seeing in this moment I think is just shocking
- 43:32Speaker 5: and jarring our communities into action. I also think that
- 43:37Speaker 5: you know, I as an organizer, as a trainer, I've
- 43:41Speaker 5: spent many years trying to teach my community and leaders
- 43:46Speaker 5: about how we are in fact in an overtin window
- 43:51Speaker 5: tug of war with MAGA and with Donald Trump for
- 43:55Speaker 5: the last like it's hard to believe for ten years,
- 44:00Speaker 5: and in effect for folks who are listening that are
- 44:04Speaker 5: unaware of the Overton window is quite simply what is
- 44:06Speaker 5: the realm of the acceptable that we will accept from
- 44:10Speaker 5: our government. Donald Trump has been trying to yank that
- 44:13Speaker 5: all the way into fascism in my opinion, and essentially
- 44:18Speaker 5: shifted where the center quote unquote is at. Well, it
- 44:21Speaker 5: is our responsibility to yank it back, and that means
- 44:25Speaker 5: that we need to speak bold ideas. We need to
- 44:28Speaker 5: elect bold progressives where we can, so that we can
- 44:31Speaker 5: recalibrate our nation back into greater normalcy and hopefully rebuild
- 44:37Speaker 5: beyond what we had. But I mean, we're going to
- 44:39Speaker 5: be doing this for generations, I.
- 44:42Speaker 3: Think, And any conversation of this race, of course, isn't
- 44:46Speaker 3: complete without the complete and utter face plant that APAC
- 44:51Speaker 3: took in this race.
- 44:53Speaker 5: So for people been to a better crew, so.
- 44:58Speaker 4: They took a gigantic pile of money.
- 45:01Speaker 6: Uh.
- 45:01Speaker 4: Yes, they didn't just light it on fire.
- 45:05Speaker 3: So they threw it at Tom Malinowski, who was fairly
- 45:08Speaker 3: pro Israel, former member of Congress, former State Department official,
- 45:13Speaker 3: who had the temerity to say that, perhaps, you know,
- 45:17Speaker 3: if Israel commits some particular grave human rights abuses, then
- 45:21Speaker 3: we should consider potentially not promising, just maybe think about,
- 45:26Speaker 3: you know, dialing back a little bit on some weapons systems, like.
- 45:29Speaker 5: Which is it was the correct thing to do if
- 45:32Speaker 5: we are a sub law do we give exactly should
- 45:39Speaker 5: we give a blank check to just anybody?
- 45:41Speaker 6: No?
- 45:42Speaker 5: But what they did was go after let's exactly go ahead. No, no,
- 45:46Speaker 5: you go ahead.
- 45:48Speaker 3: Well, I mean you you witnessed it up close. But
- 45:51Speaker 3: for that they dropped what two plus million dollars, ironically
- 45:57Speaker 3: accusing him of being too close to Trump and for
- 46:00Speaker 3: supporting funding for ICE. Which is amazing that a pack
- 46:04Speaker 3: which is mostly Republican funded, is using Republican money to
- 46:09Speaker 3: accuse somebody of supporting Ice and Trump. And it drove down,
- 46:13Speaker 3: it drove up as negatives. It hurt Malinowski in the
- 46:16Speaker 3: final strategy, I.
- 46:19Speaker 5: Want yes for sure, for sure, I will say you
- 46:24Speaker 5: know I was on the doors and on social and
- 46:29Speaker 5: in community. I think Malanowski's supporters were very vocal in
- 46:33Speaker 5: pushing against a PAC and trying to tell voters what
- 46:36Speaker 5: was happening. I joined in. I most certainly stepped up
- 46:41Speaker 5: and denounced what a PAX was doing to Tom. But
- 46:45Speaker 5: to be honest, I when I first jumped in, I
- 46:50Speaker 5: had stated that I would reject a PACK funding that
- 46:53Speaker 5: in fact, every candidate should, because this is what they do.
- 46:57Speaker 5: Leopards eat your face. The interesting thing here is that,
- 47:03Speaker 5: you know, really the lesson that APAC taught New Jersey
- 47:08Speaker 5: eleven New Jersey and voters across the country is that
- 47:13Speaker 5: they are willing to destroy friend or foe unless you
- 47:17Speaker 5: commit to and pledge blind obedience. And that should to
- 47:23Speaker 5: me that actually, forget whether or not they helped elect me,
- 47:28Speaker 5: it's the fact that they told on themselves so clearly
- 47:33Speaker 5: that this is just I hope it is a turning point.
- 47:38Speaker 5: There are other special elections happening in New Jersey. Bonnie
- 47:43Speaker 5: Watson Coleman announced that she wasn't going to run again,
- 47:46Speaker 5: so there's a there is a contest for her seat.
- 47:49Speaker 4: Adam Adam ham Away, right.
- 47:51Speaker 5: Yes, and there is there is this you know, again,
- 47:57Speaker 5: I think you know a candidate in that race are
- 48:01Speaker 5: are speaking out against APAC. Now you have even moderates
- 48:06Speaker 5: and Republicans speaking out against APAC and their practices. And
- 48:11Speaker 5: to me, that is the biggest lessons. It's this idea
- 48:15Speaker 5: that unless you pledge blind obedience, you you know this,
- 48:21Speaker 5: this mptit will come after you. And the only way
- 48:23Speaker 5: in which we free ourselves of it is to is
- 48:26Speaker 5: to disempower them by not taking their money and by
- 48:29Speaker 5: calling them out for what they've done.
- 48:32Speaker 3: And yeah, in the in Bonnie Watson Coleman's district, there's
- 48:35Speaker 3: a guy named doctor Adam Hamaway, who you know, I'm
- 48:37Speaker 3: sure who is a doctor who's gone repeatedly to Gaza
- 48:42Speaker 3: to do missions there.
- 48:43Speaker 5: Yes, I remember.
- 48:46Speaker 3: When he first launched, somebody asked them, what are you
- 48:49Speaker 3: going to refuse a PAC money? And it's like, well,
- 48:51Speaker 3: Israel was like blocking him from leaving Gaza and like
- 48:56Speaker 3: blocking water from getting into the hospital where he was working.
- 48:59Speaker 3: I think work pretty safely. Thanks where he's going to
- 49:04Speaker 3: come down on this question?
- 49:05Speaker 4: But so what what have you heard from other Democrats?
- 49:10Speaker 3: So once you win out, now you've been endorsed by
- 49:13Speaker 3: Mikey chryl by the governor, well the government she's now governor,
- 49:16Speaker 3: but by a host of establishment Democrats.
- 49:20Speaker 4: So you're not because you're not the party.
- 49:22Speaker 5: Cory Booker, the delegate that congressional delegation, as well as
- 49:28Speaker 5: my opponents. You know, this is.
- 49:31Speaker 4: Prim Booker is an interesting one.
- 49:34Speaker 3: So what, like, what did they tell you about what
- 49:35Speaker 3: they thought of APEX intervention in the race?
- 49:39Speaker 5: Honestly, what we mostly spoke about was how we needed
- 49:42Speaker 5: this was a moment for us to turn to and
- 49:45Speaker 5: build unity. That primaries are about, you know, sifting out
- 49:49Speaker 5: ideas and seeing what resonates with voters and then the
- 49:53Speaker 5: general we have to come together. Both Corey Booker, Senator
- 49:58Speaker 5: Booker and Senator Andy Kim have both committed to me
- 50:03Speaker 5: their support not only through this primary, but all the
- 50:06Speaker 5: way through to November, or better yet, this general, this
- 50:11Speaker 5: special General, and all the way through to November. I have,
- 50:15Speaker 5: you know, I'm receiving the support of institutional players and
- 50:21Speaker 5: the party itself. But here's the thing, right, Like, the
- 50:25Speaker 5: truth is that organizers activists across the country. In order
- 50:31Speaker 5: for us to be effective, we actually have to know
- 50:33Speaker 5: who the power brokers are. It's not about for organizers
- 50:38Speaker 5: and really for the left, the way in which we
- 50:41Speaker 5: build governing power is not just to call the question
- 50:44Speaker 5: and throw rocks from the outside, but it's for us
- 50:47Speaker 5: to understand that while proximity to power is not power.
- 50:51Speaker 5: So we don't kiss up to the institution, but we
- 50:55Speaker 5: do come you know, we do play ball. We do
- 50:58Speaker 5: have to use our leverage and our power to be
- 51:02Speaker 5: able to demand a seat at the table so that
- 51:04Speaker 5: we can negotiate together. And so I'm not surprised that
- 51:11Speaker 5: there is unity like lining up behind to me, because
- 51:15Speaker 5: that's what we have to do in order to beat
- 51:17Speaker 5: MAGA and trump Ism. But also I've known these players
- 51:21Speaker 5: for you know, the last twenty five years. There have
- 51:24Speaker 5: been times in which we have disagreed. There have been
- 51:26Speaker 5: times in which I have pushed them hard. But then
- 51:28Speaker 5: when we get into alignment, we get into alignment. And
- 51:31Speaker 5: that's what I think we need to do in this moment,
- 51:34Speaker 5: without capitulating, without giving up on our morals and values.
- 51:39Speaker 8: At this moment, what we are focused on, what I
- 51:42Speaker 8: am focused on doing, is making sure to consolidate and
- 51:48Speaker 8: work collaboratively across the party so that I can emerge
- 51:53Speaker 8: victorious in this special general on April sixteenth. But you know,
- 51:58Speaker 8: I will remind folks who are listening. Then I have
- 52:01Speaker 8: to run in another primary in June and then again
- 52:06Speaker 8: a general in November, and so you know, I do
- 52:10Speaker 8: think that Trump Maga trump Ism is probably going to
- 52:14Speaker 8: make my job a little easier in that respect because
- 52:18Speaker 8: their overreach is going to continue. I think the Democratic
- 52:21Speaker 8: Party is shaken up across the country and almost certainly
- 52:26Speaker 8: in New Jersey to be more vocal and aggressive in
- 52:31Speaker 8: resisting and pushing back against MEGA and their overreach and
- 52:35Speaker 8: their extremism. My focus right now is getting through this
- 52:40Speaker 8: April general on April sixteenth, and then I'll be running
- 52:44Speaker 8: again this June in the regular primary and then again
- 52:49Speaker 8: in November for the regular general. And so that means,
- 52:53Speaker 8: you know, ensuring that I am uplifting the concerns of
- 52:57Speaker 8: regular voters, that I'm consolidating not only Democrats, but frankly independence,
- 53:01Speaker 8: and I think, you know, Maga, like I said, Maga
- 53:04Speaker 8: trump Ism is making my job a little easier, sadly,
- 53:07Speaker 8: with their overreach and violent authoritarianism.
- 53:12Speaker 3: By the way, has your delegation member Josh Gottheimer has
- 53:15Speaker 3: he called yet?
- 53:17Speaker 8: He actually did send me a note congratulating me. I
- 53:21Speaker 8: thought that was uh, that was a pleasant surprise, excellent.
- 53:26Speaker 3: Well on a LILYA Mahea, the Democratic nominee for New
- 53:30Speaker 3: Jersey's eleventh district. Thanks so much for joining us, and
- 53:33Speaker 3: congratulations on the.
- 53:36Speaker 8: Thank you. Hopefully i'll join you again soon.
- 53:40Speaker 4: I'll be smoothing and in studio. Can't wait to see
- 53:43Speaker 4: you guys.
- 53:43Speaker 8: And what oh yes, yes, that's gonna be awesome. Thank you, Ben,
- 53:47Speaker 8: I appreciate you later.
- 53:48Speaker 4: You got it all right. So that's uh, Alilia Mahea.
- 53:53Speaker 3: On our way to becoming a member of Congress, and
- 53:55Speaker 3: I would expect re elected again in November. Well we'll
- 53:59Speaker 3: see amazing that one of the wealthiest districts in the
- 54:03Speaker 3: country is going to send a kind of berniecrat to Congress.
- 54:08Speaker 3: And I think it's it's it's an extraordinarily significant development
- 54:13Speaker 3: for the reshaping of the Democratic Party.
- 54:16Speaker 6: Right for a long time, it's been Rokama, who's a
- 54:20Speaker 6: representative kind of Bernie Democrat who represents one of the
- 54:22Speaker 6: wealthiest districts in the country.
- 54:25Speaker 9: And if anything, the populists have.
- 54:28Speaker 6: Been you know, we talked about this research from CGCN,
- 54:30Speaker 6: the lobbying firm that shows populists are from the poorer
- 54:35Speaker 6: districts Freedom Caucus squad. They're representing the poor, poorer district
- 54:39Speaker 6: so it is a very interesting.
- 54:40Speaker 9: Development on the left.
- 54:41Speaker 4: Yeah, not so much anymore. I'm right.
- 54:44Speaker 3: Well, we will see you on Friday, Crystal and sagerb
- 54:46Speaker 3: be back here tomorrow.
- 54:47Speaker 6: Yeah, and make sure to subscribe if you haven't yet.
