- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the Coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. So today we are talking about
- 0:32hanging on to things that you know you need to let go of.
- 0:35And I'm not just talking about emotions, I'm talking about just
- 0:39crap things in your house, things that you just have to let
- 0:42go of and you don't want to. And I'm going to tell you a very
- 0:45funny story about a washing machine.
- 0:47So I have a tendency to, I will, I will hang on to things
- 0:53sometimes too long when I just don't want to deal with the fact
- 0:57that I have to go out and get something new because I like the
- 0:59certainty of what I have. So I have this washing machine
- 1:03and Full disclosure, I can't stand laundry being hanging
- 1:08around. So I do laundry every single
- 1:10day. I know that sounds absurd for
- 1:12some people who just do it once a week, but not me.
- 1:15I do it every single day. Plus I have my favorite things
- 1:17and when I go in there and I want them, I want them.
- 1:20I don't want to say oh they're dirty and I can't wear them.
- 1:22So it has become a habit of mine over the years to do laundry
- 1:26every single day. And it is a good habit because
- 1:29you never have piles of laundry, in my opinion.
- 1:32And honestly, of a lot of the arguments that I work with
- 1:36people on in their family become chores and laundry is one of
- 1:39them. And as I always remind
- 1:41everybody, you know, we don't go down by the river with a little
- 1:44washboard and a brush and soap to clean it.
- 1:47All we do is put it in one machine, then put it in the next
- 1:49machine and then yes, it has to get folded and put away.
- 1:53However, it is still not the grunt work of what it once was.
- 1:56So try to put a smile on when you think about laundry, but I
- 1:59actually don't mind laundry and I do it a lot as I said.
- 2:04So I have this washing machine and it's about 5 years old and
- 2:10I, it's a deep fill. I like it.
- 2:13I don't like fancy washing machines typically because I'm
- 2:17like, oh, there's a lot of electronics.
- 2:18They're going to break a lot, a lot, a lot go on and on with the
- 2:21whole story. So here I am with this washing
- 2:24machine. Now, two years ago, because we
- 2:27live on a farm, this washing machine got clogged up with hay
- 2:31and things that come in on socks, sawdust and the filter
- 2:36couldn't, you know, drain anymore.
- 2:38And so it wasn't draining. So me being me, I do all the
- 2:41research, I figure out what's wrong with it, and then I order
- 2:45the part online. Plus, we're in the middle of
- 2:47COVID at that point and nobody's coming out anyway.
- 2:50So I either have to throw said washing machine away or figure
- 2:54out how to fix it. So I order a part, my husband's
- 2:57laughing at me about this, and we get it in and lo and behold,
- 3:02we figure out how to fix it ourselves because I go online
- 3:05and I order a manual of how to repair the washing machine.
- 3:09So I'm like, now I'm invested in this machine emotionally.
- 3:12Like I am not getting rid of this machine.
- 3:14We fix it and it works and I'm so proud of myself.
- 3:17So I'm emotionally invested in said machine.
- 3:20Now here we start about 2 1/2 weeks ago. 3 weeks ago it starts
- 3:25with the slick. I noticed a little drip on the
- 3:27floor coming out from underneath.
- 3:29And I immediately go get the manual and I look at it and
- 3:32there there are a myriad of things that could be causing
- 3:35this, but I can't figure out where it's coming from.
- 3:37And then the drip starts to get bigger and bigger and other
- 3:41people are noticed. So every night I say to my son,
- 3:43can you just tip this up so I can wipe underneath it and make
- 3:46sure there's no water on the floor and clean it all up?
- 3:49And I do this every single night without even thinking about the
- 3:53fact. So my son says to me a week ago,
- 3:56you know, mom, this really, you need to get this thing taken
- 3:59care of and call somebody. And I'm like, oh, I'm not going
- 4:02to call somebody because the moment I call somebody, it's
- 4:05going to become an issue. And it's really not an issue.
- 4:07It's still working. And he's just laughing at me.
- 4:10And he's like, mom, you would never let your clients do this.
- 4:13You would say to them, take care of the problem.
- 4:15And I started laughing, and I was like, Oh my God, he's right.
- 4:18So I have to start thinking about the fact that I need to
- 4:22let go of this washer. And I had to get myself through
- 4:25the whole thing. And then I do the research and I
- 4:28walk over and I say, what's the life of a washing machine?
- 4:32And ironically, they don't do this in years, my friends.
- 4:36They do this in numbers of washes.
- 4:39And so my son and I are looking at it and he's like, well, by
- 4:43those rules and a number of washes that this one says,
- 4:49you've gone past this, you've surpassed this a long time ago.
- 4:52And then he's like very much a tactical guy.
- 4:56He opens the lid, he looks in, he sees that there's rust on the
- 4:59edges. And he's like, mom, the evidence
- 5:01is right in front of you. There is something else.
- 5:03This thing is rusted. You have got to get rid of this
- 5:05washer. So lo and behold, I have to make
- 5:09the decision. I go and I find a washer and
- 5:12after all these years of telling myself I don't want fancy stuff,
- 5:16I walk in and I fall in love with this washer that is big and
- 5:21deep, way deeper than the one that I had.
- 5:23And it's fancy and it can connect to my phone and all this
- 5:27and all of a sudden I have a new washer.
- 5:30And the point of this is after this morning, very early, 4:00
- 5:35AM, doing another wash, getting ready for my day, I said, you
- 5:39know what's interesting about this?
- 5:41This washer is significantly better than the one that I had.
- 5:45It washes things so quickly. It has taken hours off my day
- 5:49and so sometimes we all have to learn those lessons of letting
- 5:53go of the stuff that's holding us back to take on the new stuff
- 5:57that can actually propel us forward.
- 5:59So that's my lesson for you all today as I'm so happy with my
- 6:03new washer. I hope you guys have a blessed
- 6:06day and I will see you tomorrow and clean clothes.
- 6:09Bye.
