- 1:17Ladies and gentlemen, for the first time on JABBA in the
- 1:20Mouth, we're now talking to WFAN anchor Sports Bash Media, the
- 1:26host and the greater Long Island writer, the one and only Peter
- 1:30Schwartz. Peter, what's up?
- 1:32Hey, how you guys doing? Thanks for having me.
- 1:34Well, we're very happy to have you on.
- 1:36You're doing so many great things here on Long Island.
- 1:39I the last time I saw you, I saw you at Preston's induction as he
- 1:43is. He was going and he decided to
- 1:45go to Georgia. We're very happy to see Preston
- 1:48decide to go. Wanted to one of the best
- 1:50schools in the country and has a chance to be something special.
- 1:54Long Islanders are excited to see this kid really developed
- 1:57and and possibly to an NFL style of player.
- 1:59But we're not here to talk about that.
- 2:01We're here to talk about what's going on in New York sports.
- 2:04You've been a part of New York sports.
- 2:06I see you're wearing Islanders hat.
- 2:08So let's go into The Jets and the giants this weekend and the
- 2:12New York Jets to me before Sunday Night Football was really
- 2:16the more fun game to watch out of all the weekend games that I
- 2:19saw that was the best game. It was close.
- 2:22It was back and forth. Aaron Rodgers returns to the to
- 2:25to New York Jets world with the fans screaming and booing him.
- 2:29He had his thoughts and his his his stuff to the media after the
- 2:32game. But four touchdowns over 200
- 2:34yards? Your thoughts to the New York
- 2:37Jets at the end of the game, once again choking against Aaron
- 2:40Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 2:42As a Jets fan, I'm disgusted. It's just, I mean it.
- 2:47What what's amazing to me is the amount of jet fans, jet media
- 2:52and just people around the NFL that are that are throwing roses
- 2:55at The Jets for this game yesterday and makes no sense to
- 2:59me. I mean, it was just it was
- 3:00another loss. It was the same stuff it was it
- 3:03was stupid penalties, it was mistakes.
- 3:05It was a turnover. It just, again, I don't, I
- 3:10understand it was an exciting game and I understand they
- 3:13should have won, but they didn't.
- 3:15So I'm not buying into this whole moral victory thing all
- 3:19it's different than it was before they played good against
- 3:22a good defense makes no difference to me.
- 3:25I think both New York teams came up extremely disappointing
- 3:28yesterday, but both in different ways.
- 3:30So Speaking of not moral victories, Aaron Glenn was
- 3:32saying the same thing after after the game.
- 3:34He doesn't believe in them either.
- 3:36What is your thoughts to Aaron Glenn as a head coach and do you
- 3:38think he's a good culture guy from what you've seen the last
- 3:41couple months? Well, I, I think he is so far
- 3:44from what we've seen in training camp and through the preseason
- 3:46in the first game, he's saying all the right things.
- 3:48But now, you know, let's see if he's true to his word, if he's
- 3:51going to say to people, well, if you're if you're going to turn
- 3:54the ball over, you're going to make mistakes and you're going
- 3:56to cost us games, you're not going to be here.
- 3:57So let's see by Wednesday if Xavier Gibson is still on this
- 4:01team. He had the huge, you know,
- 4:03fumble on the kickoff and that was maybe 1 of the biggest
- 4:06reasons that they they lost that game yesterday.
- 4:08So let's see what happens. Let's see if there's really
- 4:11accountability this time. I know it's only one game, but
- 4:15you only get 17 of them. You can't afford to continue to
- 4:18let game slip away if you want to play meaningful football in
- 4:21November and December. So to me, I think the jury is
- 4:24still out. I believe and Aaron Glenn, I
- 4:26believe in the new regime. I just don't believe we're at
- 4:29that point yet where things have changed much from last year.
- 4:34Yeah, go. I mean for what they for what
- 4:38both teams have done, do you think they're in the right?
- 4:42I mean, I know it's tough with just one week, but do you think
- 4:45they're headed in the right direction or you're not buying
- 4:47any of it? You need to see more.
- 4:49Well, I, I, I think in certain areas, I think they are in the
- 4:52right direction. I mean, they've got some pieces
- 4:54to have a successful team down the road.
- 4:56I'll do the one, the one actually, there were two things
- 4:59that were were were good out of the game yesterday.
- 5:02One was Justin Fields because 1 of the time The Jets signed him,
- 5:05everybody was was mocking the decision.
- 5:07He can't throw, look like he could throw yesterday and he
- 5:10obviously can run. So to me, he was the bright spot
- 5:14that came out of the game. The other bright spot of the
- 5:15five guys in front of him, the offensive line, I thought for
- 5:18the most part did a really good job protecting him, giving him
- 5:21lanes to run. So I I think in that respect,
- 5:24yes, offensively it's definitely a step in the right direction,
- 5:27but we're still just seeing, you know, we we've heard for, you
- 5:30know, years now how great this jets defense is with all these
- 5:34great players. And I still haven't seen it yet
- 5:36to the secondary is still soft after Sauce Gardner.
- 5:41They've got some holes to fill there.
- 5:43I you know, you know, Quincy Williams is a good player, but
- 5:45he makes a critical penalty yesterday on the hit out of
- 5:48bounds. So for me, from a Jets
- 5:50standpoint, there are there are signs of them going in the right
- 5:53direction, but until you start racking up wins, I don't know
- 5:56how you can really throw roses at that.
- 5:58I'm not throwing roses. And by the way, we are talking
- 6:00to WFAN anchor Sports Bash Media, as always, host and
- 6:06greater Long Island writer Peter Schwartz.
- 6:08He's been doing so many great things all over Long Island in
- 6:11New York. He's a great writer, great voice
- 6:15all over the social media world. And, and, and here's the thing,
- 6:18I, I'll go back to the New York Jets because I am a Jet fan.
- 6:21I also root on the Eagles. Everybody that listens to the
- 6:23show knows all about that because over the years, Donovan
- 6:26McNabb was my favorite player. But The Jets to me, they there
- 6:31were a lot of mistakes, especially in the secondary, but
- 6:33there were a lot of things that I liked.
- 6:35Quinn Williams look lighter. He was the best player on the
- 6:38field. All, all game long.
- 6:39Everybody keeps talking about how great TJ Watt is and he's
- 6:42sensational. Quinton Williams was the best
- 6:45defensive player on both sides of both teams.
- 6:48He was sensational. Will McDonald, everybody was
- 6:50complaining that Joe Douglas went after him at 15.
- 6:54He had two sacks, almost had three sacks in a game.
- 6:57This is this is again going into a new season showing you 15 lbs
- 7:01put on 15 lbs. He's playing three downs now and
- 7:03he's stopping the run. I saw a couple of times he was
- 7:05stopping the run. Jermaine Johnson's back.
- 7:07There was a lot of bright spots. Sherwood look good.
- 7:10I mean, there was a lot of things that you could like about
- 7:12this front 7 and his defense is just a secondary Stevens.
- 7:16I don't know why The Jets brought him in from Baltimore.
- 7:19He was brutal. Michael Carter, I mean, what the
- 7:21hell was he? Was he even in the game?
- 7:23Was his head in the in the game Sauce.
- 7:26He made some mistakes against DK Metcalf, but Metcalf did not
- 7:29look as good as Aaron Glenn was saying that he was during the
- 7:33you know, during the post game. So in the media talk.
- 7:36So I I didn't think anything of it.
- 7:38I think you're right. Justin Fields really stood out
- 7:41to me and obviously the front five, if they could play like
- 7:45down here, if Elijah Vertaka comes back next year, the the
- 7:48talent that they have an outline with Membu and then Fashano, who
- 7:51was sensational. I I thought it was fun to watch.
- 7:54But what stood out to me on the other side was Aaron Rodgers.
- 7:59Now Aaron Rodgers had four touchdowns.
- 8:02He had over 240 yards and he was sitting there, he was talking to
- 8:06the media. And Peter, you've been there,
- 8:08you've been in those media rooms before and you've asked
- 8:11questions to guys like Aaron Rodgers and this guy, no matter
- 8:15what he, his cockiness, his personality and, and I, I like
- 8:20Aaron Rodgers. I stick up for him.
- 8:21I stuck up, stuck up for him for years over there in Green Bay
- 8:24because I think he's his 10 year stint is probably the best I've
- 8:27ever seen on any team and any quarterback.
- 8:29But when he went out there and attacked the executives and and
- 8:32the The Jets brass and saying that The Jets didn't make the
- 8:36right decision and that The Jets disrespected him.
- 8:40And meanwhile The Jets, he says he wanted to do things face to
- 8:43face. The Jets invited him to speak to
- 8:45them face to face because they didn't pay for his airfare.
- 8:49And then he he sat in the room with the new GM and Aaron Glenn
- 8:53and ownership and they said they don't need him anymore.
- 8:56He's butt, he's butt hurt. I don't get it.
- 8:58I don't know why he's attacking him.
- 9:00Just play the goddamn game. Am I right or wrong here?
- 9:03Well, I, I think you'll look at it both ways.
- 9:04First of all, you go back a little bit.
- 9:06I, I, I wanted The Jets to bring Aaron Rodgers back.
- 9:09I thought it would be the smart decision.
- 9:12If you look back at his numbers last year and some people look
- 9:15at me like I have 5 heads when I say this, but if you look at
- 9:18Aaron Rodgers body of work last year, he had one of the best
- 9:22statistical seasons by a quarterback in Jets history.
- 9:25And I know that that bar is not set very high when it comes to
- 9:28quarterbacks in Jets history. But look at his numbers from
- 9:31last year. He played all 17 games.
- 9:34He put up good numbers. I would have brought him back.
- 9:37I would have drafted a quarterback and let him tutor
- 9:39the quarterback for a year. But The Jets decided they wanted
- 9:42to go in a different direction, a different culture.
- 9:45And here's the thing too, I, I understand he was, his feelings
- 9:48were hurt that he, he wanted to come back.
- 9:50The new regime didn't want him, but you have to understand
- 9:53something, too. The Jets let him do whatever he
- 9:56wanted to do. They brought in all his buddies.
- 9:59They brought in probably the worst offensive coordinator in
- 10:02the history of the NFL in Nathaniel Hackett.
- 10:05They they let him bring that guy in and he was an utter disaster.
- 10:09So it's not like The Jets for two plus years, you know,
- 10:14treated him poorly. They they basically let him run
- 10:16the asylum. But I look, if you're a
- 10:19competitor and you're a professional, I get it.
- 10:22You went back in there. You just, you know, wipe the
- 10:24floor with, you know, with as far as your statistics were
- 10:27concerned with, with the team that didn't want you back.
- 10:30So I can understand where he's coming, but I think some of it's
- 10:34a little off base because The Jets did basically give him the
- 10:37the keys to the Kingdom land. Here's the problem.
- 10:39Alan Lazard, who was healthy, was a healthy scratch.
- 10:43That just tells you right there The Jets are paying this man not
- 10:46to be on a football field. So.
- 10:48I don't know why he's still on the roster.
- 10:50I mean, if he's not going to play, just just, you know, let
- 10:53him go and listen, I know you're going to probably have to spend
- 10:55some money to let him go, but if he's not going to be part of
- 10:58your roster and not be part of your team, and I would just, I
- 11:01would just let him go. It was embarrassing to me.
- 11:04And, and again, Aaron Rodgers is, is a person I, I again, look
- 11:08up to. I think he's a sensational
- 11:10talent. He came out in the offseasons
- 11:12talking about him getting married to a woman named
- 11:14Brittany. Nobody's seen her.
- 11:16I made a joke that he probably married his hand and said that
- 11:19he named her Brittany. I mean, this is something that
- 11:21Aaron Rodgers likes to do. He likes to, you know, spit out
- 11:24crazy crap. And he said it was a couple
- 11:26months. It wasn't just like it happened,
- 11:28it was like a couple months. Nobody's seen this, this woman,
- 11:31nobody's nobody even seen pictures of this woman.
- 11:34But he's married and he's. Got.
- 11:38I have no idea. I have no idea.
- 11:41Nobody's seen any woman. I even some of the jet players
- 11:45that I know that I've spoken to of air says that nobody's met.
- 11:49Nobody's met this woman that he's married to.
- 11:51Nobody was invited to this wedding.
- 11:54And he said he never married. It was in front of a justice of
- 11:56the peace. So where was this marriage and
- 11:59who's this this, this question mark?
- 12:01Who's this woman? That's what I want to know.
- 12:03That's my interest here. Who the hell is she?
- 12:05Josh Allen gets married to a movie star.
- 12:07He was married. He was dating Danica Patrick.
- 12:10And Danica Patrick dropped a hammer on him on a podcast.
- 12:13I mean, seriously, it's been, it's embarrassing.
- 12:16Most athletes, when they get married, you kind of know who
- 12:18the other, the significant other is.
- 12:20And generally speaking, it's it's somebody else who's famous
- 12:23as well. But yeah, listen, that's Aaron
- 12:26Rodgers. Look, that's what The Jets
- 12:27signed up for. When, when, when he came here a
- 12:30couple years ago. So you can't I, I, I can't have
- 12:35any pity for The Jets because of what happened, because look, he
- 12:38he chose to be here. I got that's why I wanted him
- 12:41back. Like he he gave up more money
- 12:44elsewhere at the come play for The Jets.
- 12:46So this whole idea of of booing him and and holding this grudge
- 12:49against him, I, I don't get it. But from from from that
- 12:52standpoint, I can understand how he felt after that game
- 12:55yesterday. So shifting to the Giants, we
- 12:57talked about it before you came on, Brian Dabel and Malik
- 12:59Neighbors getting involved in a sideline scuffle.
- 13:01Brian Dabel obviously wins Coach of the year's first year in the
- 13:04last three years has really been a downfall, maybe kind of
- 13:06turning into Matt Nagy with the Bears, which is a bad side.
- 13:10What are your thoughts of that whole sideline outburst with the
- 13:12two of them? Yeah, it's obviously it's it's
- 13:14not a good luck And, and, and the Giants are kind of a mess
- 13:17right now. And I I think the only thing
- 13:19that really will salvage the season for them, And I think as
- 13:24far as Joe Shane and Brian Dabel are concerned, that the only
- 13:26thing that may give them a shot at sticking around after this
- 13:29year is that they have to go to Jackson Dart as their
- 13:32quarterback. I mean, they are getting there
- 13:34is nothing to be gained by letting Russell Wilson make
- 13:38another start or even take another snap for them.
- 13:40Would you see how bad that offense was looking yesterday?
- 13:43And I know you know, the preseason is the preseason, you
- 13:47can't put too much stock in it. But when you watch Jackson dart
- 13:50play in the preseason, you kind of get the feeling that he's got
- 13:53it and he knows what he's doing. And at this point, I I know you
- 13:57wanted to try to be optimistic and let Russell Wilson play for
- 14:00a few weeks and, and, and give Jackson dart a chance to watch.
- 14:04But from what I saw yesterday, and if you're Brian Dabel and
- 14:08your future is in doubt, you drafted this guy to be your
- 14:12quarterback. I think he's got a place sooner
- 14:15rather than later. And maybe it's not this week,
- 14:18but it's got to be within the first five weeks of the season
- 14:20because otherwise I think the Giants are going to go in
- 14:23another direction on the sideline again.
- 14:26Well, that's we were talking about that earlier and I was
- 14:29like Errol said five to six weeks and.
- 14:32Week 5 I was like do. You think it's going to be
- 14:34sooner or they're going to let it and and you kind of went with
- 14:37the five one. Why do you think it's going to
- 14:39be at least five? And Errol, you can chime in on
- 14:42this too, but you don't go to him really.
- 14:44Errol kind of was like, yeah, you don't throw him in the fire
- 14:46right away to let him burn. But if this is going to be the
- 14:49way that rush shows it, do you not go to him earlier?
- 14:52I mean I I would, but that's what the hell do I know.
- 14:55Well, I think the idea is that you want to try and win a couple
- 14:57of games. I think the Giants as an
- 14:59organization want to try at least, you know, show that they
- 15:02can win a couple of games. But from what you saw during,
- 15:06you know, training camp and what you saw yesterday from Russell
- 15:09Wilson, I just don't know if you'll have a chance to to win
- 15:12any games. It's it's not a great schedule.
- 15:15And at some point it's got to click in.
- 15:18Listen, we're not going to be successful.
- 15:21Russell Wilson is not, he's not doing right now what Kurt Warner
- 15:26did for the Giants when they brought him in to Tudor.
- 15:29Eli Manning, obviously, the Giants had a winning record when
- 15:32they made the switch that year. In 2004, Eli Manning came in,
- 15:36the Giants lost a couple of games in a row, but they still
- 15:38had a winning season in In this case, I just don't see where
- 15:42Russell Wilson is going to be any kind of a factor in helping
- 15:46the Giants win a couple of games.
- 15:47So I don't know if they want to wait till after this week or
- 15:50next week, but somewhere here you've got at least give the
- 15:53fans, you know, something to watch.
- 15:55You've got to at least give, give your head coach, his staff,
- 15:58the general manager of the front office, give them a chance to
- 16:01show that they made the right decision in Jackson Dart.
- 16:04And maybe he's the guy that can lead them down the road.
- 16:07And maybe that's what brings this regime back next year.
- 16:10Otherwise, they're going to have to blow this up again after
- 16:12this. Year.
- 16:12No. Jameis Winston.
- 16:13I I'd rather see Jameis Winston. I'm just kidding.
- 16:18I should. Trade him now too.
- 16:19They should just trade him. Yeah, trade him at ESPN because
- 16:23that's. You can use a bat.
- 16:24He's going to back. I, I think they, they should
- 16:27wait a little bit. I, I think that to me right now,
- 16:30the Giants put this kid in a position to fail.
- 16:33He will fail. I I think give him what the
- 16:36Giants did. They were, they had a winning
- 16:37record with Kurt Warner and they decided to push away from Kurt
- 16:41Warner and go with Eli Manning. I think you give him, give
- 16:45Russell Wilson at least five weeks, let him.
- 16:48Let's settle that, get this team settled down to settle down and
- 16:51then go to the young quarterback and see what you have with the
- 16:54young quarter. I think he's going to be great.
- 16:56I love what I saw during the preseason, but again, that's not
- 16:59a regular season game. You're playing against
- 17:01everybody's number one. So we'll see what Jackson darts
- 17:04going to do when he's running for dear life when his offensive
- 17:07line can't block for you because it it looked really, really bad
- 17:10against the Commanders. Really bad.
- 17:11Yeah, I I just think he's got some moxie.
- 17:14I just think he looks like someone that can come in and
- 17:17give this team a spark. Maybe he can create some instant
- 17:19chemistry with Malik Neighbors. And you know, a lot of times
- 17:23when you bring the rookie quarterback in, you know the the
- 17:26defense and you know, the the offensive line will play a
- 17:28little bit better in front of you because Oh my God, we got a
- 17:30rookie quarterback. So that's what I I think it's
- 17:35got to be sooner rather than later, but I don't think it's
- 17:37going to be this week. We are talking to WFAN Anchor
- 17:40Sports Bash media host and the greater Long Island writer Peter
- 17:44Schwartz. Peter, let's get to the Yankees
- 17:47because the Yankees needed to go into the off, I'm sorry,
- 17:51offseason during the weekend and play very, very well against the
- 17:55Blue Jays. And they did that.
- 17:56They showed up against the Blue Jays and and played well.
- 17:59They're top pitchers. Freeze played well.
- 18:03Everybody that needed to play well, they played well.
- 18:05What do you think has been the problem all season long for the
- 18:08New York Yankees? Why have the Yankees been up and
- 18:10down all season long? It's not really injury.
- 18:13We all know what Volpe is. He's been an absolute bust.
- 18:15But why do you think they've been up and down all season
- 18:18long? I, I don't think there's any one
- 18:21thing you can put your finger on.
- 18:23I think it's, it's a lot of things.
- 18:24I think it's that lineup, especially before they made some
- 18:28of the moves, the lineup was very inconsistent.
- 18:31You know, there would be a game they'd score ten runs in the
- 18:33next game. You know, they could probably
- 18:35go, you know, five games without scoring.
- 18:37So there was that problem. It was some inconsistency in the
- 18:39starting rotation. The biggest problem to me was
- 18:41the bullpen. The bullpen was kind of a, a
- 18:44disaster and, and, and, and to a certain extent, there's still
- 18:47some holes in it. I don't know if if, if Yankee
- 18:50fans completely trust Devin Williams in a big spot at this
- 18:54point, but they seem to have gotten it together a little bit,
- 18:56especially in the last two games against Toronto.
- 18:58But there are a number of things.
- 19:00Look, I don't, I I've tried to defend Aaron Boone for the last
- 19:03few years because in my opinion, you know, he's obviously, you
- 19:08know, you know, hearing things from the analytics department
- 19:11because that that's the only way to explain some of the moves
- 19:13that have been made, you know, is in game decisions.
- 19:16But you know, you can question some of those moves that have
- 19:19that have made the line up. You know, as a guy who's red hot
- 19:22five straight games has a hit now you're sitting him in the in
- 19:25the sixth game. So there been some things that
- 19:26have happened that just you scratch your head at.
- 19:29But it certainly looks like in the last couple of weeks, you
- 19:32know, the Friday night game against Toronto aside that they
- 19:34they're starting, they're starting to get it here and
- 19:37obviously they're pushing Toronto here a little bit now
- 19:39down to two games. If the Yankees didn't win that
- 19:41series over the weekend, I think you could have probably kissed
- 19:44their chances of winning the division goodbye.
- 19:46But now they're right there. You know, they're playing well.
- 19:49They're they're, they're down to games.
- 19:51They've, they've created a little bit of a cushion for the
- 19:53first wild card. At worst case scenario, you'll,
- 19:56you'll, you'll host all three games of the wild card round.
- 19:58But I, I think the Yankees see their see the prize right now in
- 20:01front of them and their two games.
- 20:03They're within the earshot of Toronto.
- 20:05And I think you're going to see them go balls to the wall.
- 20:07The last couple of weeks of the season here and make a real big
- 20:10push because Toronto's definitely really Toronto's on
- 20:13their heels, right? Yeah.
- 20:14Yeah, so the MVP debate, Aaron Judge and Cal rally.
- 20:17Aaron Judge hasn't played great since he's come back, but he
- 20:19tied to, he tied Yogi Berra's record just recently.
- 20:22Where do you stand on that? Oh, look, you know, it's he
- 20:26obviously missed a lot of time this year because of the injury
- 20:29and it's it's kind of scary to see him go back in the outfield
- 20:33because the last thing you want to do is get his back back and
- 20:35then have them get hurt in in the field.
- 20:38I I think it's I don't know how you guys, you know, feel about
- 20:41it, but I think it's got to be inevitable that Aaron Judge has
- 20:44got to learn how to play first base because I think you want to
- 20:47try and keep his bat in the lineup as much as possible.
- 20:50You know, and Stanton, obviously you want to try and have some
- 20:53flexibility, put him in the outfield, have him DHA little
- 20:56bit. You want Judge the DHA little
- 20:58bit, but I, I think, you know, going forward here, I think the
- 21:02Yankees, maybe not this year, but maybe in the offseason, they
- 21:05have to start thinking about, you know, having Aaron Judge get
- 21:08some games at first base just just so he doesn't have to run
- 21:11so much in the outfield and and and ruin getting hurt because
- 21:14risk getting hurt because you need his bat in the lineup.
- 21:16And he's obviously had some some major injuries so far in his
- 21:20career. I think if the Yankees want to
- 21:22get as many good years as possible out of this contract,
- 21:26they have to try and protect him a little bit and and keep him
- 21:28out of the outfield. Yeah, I've been, I've been
- 21:32saying that for probably a year or two.
- 21:34Yeah, he's a great athlete, don't get me wrong, but he, he's
- 21:36not the smallest of individuals either.
- 21:38So, and we've seen kind of his his injury track record, but
- 21:42it's for me, it's like exactly what you said.
- 21:46It's like, at least get him a couple games, give him a little
- 21:48break, but still be in there. And because some guys just
- 21:51can't, they're not great DHS. And if you look at his numbers
- 21:53like as ADA, because he's so used to playing every day that
- 21:56it takes, it takes a rare bird to be a great DH.
- 21:58And they're all the really good ones that have come out and said
- 22:01that. But it for me, there's there's a
- 22:04lot, there's a lot of hole. I don't know what the hell you
- 22:06do at Volpe. I mean, if you look at his
- 22:08numbers, he's literally last in the league and everything.
- 22:12Well, you got to make Caballero the shortstop.
- 22:14You have, you have, they have. They have to do that.
- 22:18I mean, I just, I don't know, do you make that move now going
- 22:22into what it is you're so close and mind you, you play with the
- 22:24holes that you got because it's gotten you to where you are.
- 22:27And is it going to are you going to have that late, I guess with
- 22:32Caballero be able to do the things that that he can do And
- 22:36then, OK, something happens And now you got to bring in.
- 22:39I just they're in a tough spot with him because of how they
- 22:43praised him and the fact that he just did win a Gold Glove two
- 22:46years ago. And now it's just you got every
- 22:48armchair quarterback and you know, guru that knows how to
- 22:51throw and his mechanics and he's not putting his body weight and
- 22:54this that and another thing. And it's just it's entertaining
- 22:56to to read and it keeps me entertained.
- 22:59Usually when you know I'm on the crapper, it's about the only
- 23:02time that it makes sense to me. You better wash your hands.
- 23:06Oh yeah. Always, always.
- 23:07Yeah, I got the bubble gum. But yeah, sometimes watching the
- 23:11Yankees, I'd take shit. But the only one you can really
- 23:17count on in the back in the bullpen, Cruz and his splitter.
- 23:21I don't know if he knows what it's doing.
- 23:23I actually was talking about that the other day with a bunch
- 23:25of people. I don't think.
- 23:26I think he just throws it and it just kind of does whatever he
- 23:28wants. He's he's been really good.
- 23:29And obviously Bednar with what he's done, but other than that,
- 23:32it's I mean, you got a an iffy Luke Weaver and you can't throw
- 23:37Devin Williams out there in big situations anymore.
- 23:39It's just and then, you know, he's like, I was making good
- 23:42pitches and they were borderline calls that this was like last
- 23:45week when he was complaining. But he's going to have to and
- 23:49there's not enough time for him to to get back, you know, high
- 23:52leverage situations. Is he going to be forced into
- 23:54him sometimes? Yes, he's going to have to be
- 23:56just because Boone, he's going to rely on those guys that he
- 23:59can count on. And I just, there's a lot of
- 24:01holes. I know I've, I've said this,
- 24:04you, you gain traction at the right time of the year, taking
- 24:06momentum into it. And they're doing that right
- 24:09now, obviously in a four and two with, with the last two teams in
- 24:12the Astros and the Blue Jays, which is huge.
- 24:15But now it's after we've seen that they are they, they are
- 24:18great at having 2 great series and then just go absolutely lay
- 24:21an egg in their next one. So I, I think this next one is,
- 24:24is, is just as big as these other ones to, to make sure that
- 24:27they can keep the momentum going in because they, they can see
- 24:30they're only two back and have separated themselves in the wild
- 24:33card to, to be able to host. So I think this one is big going
- 24:36into the second-half of September.
- 24:38And I think the biggest thing also right now for the Yankees
- 24:40is it looks like they're they're starting rotation is coming into
- 24:44shape here. Obviously, Max Fried slumped a
- 24:46little bit and now he's he's back on track.
- 24:48And we we've seen Rodon come up with some some good performances
- 24:52until Friday night. You know, Cam Schlittler has
- 24:54been, you know, outstanding. And look, it's going to happen.
- 24:57He's a young pitcher and he just couldn't put the Blue Jays away
- 25:00with two strikes on Friday night.
- 25:02He'll get it. He'll figure it out.
- 25:03But I I think from a starting standpoint, I think the Yankees
- 25:06are in good shape going into the playoffs.
- 25:08You probably can then take Will Warren and move them into a long
- 25:11release situation. It'll strengthen the bullpen in
- 25:14the playoffs going to three starters, so I think there's
- 25:17really some good signs for the Yankees going into the playoffs.
- 25:19We are talking to WF, an Anchor Sports Bash Media host, and the
- 25:23Greater Long Island writer, Peter Schwartz.
- 25:26You know, Peter, the New York Mets, they've had problems
- 25:30pitching all season long, back and forth.
- 25:32But since Nolan McLean, who just lost his first game as a starter
- 25:36here in the majors today, and Tong and some of the young
- 25:39starters that they have, I think the Mets can start to feel their
- 25:43rotation when the playoffs start.
- 25:44I'm not going to, I'm not going to trust any of these pitchers.
- 25:48David Peterson probably has been their best starter all season
- 25:51long besides some of the youngsters.
- 25:53Where do you see the Mets going when they get into the players?
- 25:56Do you see McClain being their number one guy, then David
- 25:59Peterson, then Tong? Do you go with the younger guys
- 26:02or do you You bet on Sanga, you bet on one of these other guys
- 26:05which has not been successful all season long.
- 26:09Well, I don't know how much in the picture saying is going to
- 26:11be since he accepted that the motion to the minor leagues.
- 26:14We'll see if he can get his his act straightened out.
- 26:17But right now if you're the Mets, I mean your most reliable
- 26:20pitcher right now, you know, tonight aside has been McClain.
- 26:23He's been outstanding. He showed some great boys.
- 26:26I was with my family at the game last week when he when he
- 26:30pitched that, that great game against the Phillies.
- 26:32So he's, he's looked like a he's looked like an ace so far.
- 26:36And the Mets young pitchers have looked really good.
- 26:38Even yesterday, Brandon Sproed, you took a no hitter into the
- 26:416th inning yesterday. So I think the Mets just like
- 26:43the Yankees, I think the Mets may have that starting situation
- 26:47figured out. It's a it's a question now of
- 26:49how much, how much, how deep those pitchers can go and how
- 26:53much they can rely on some of those arms in the bullpen.
- 26:55You know, Senga comes back. There may not be a spot for him
- 26:59in the postseason rotation. They may have to use him out of
- 27:02the bullpen if he can get that, you know, that that forkball
- 27:05straightened out down in Syracuse.
- 27:06So I, I, I think the Mets offensively a lot better
- 27:10obviously in the last few weeks since Vientos started hitting.
- 27:13I think the rotation is, is better.
- 27:15Now the big question, and I know Java can relate to this, but
- 27:19that bullpens got to comment, you know, you know, into a
- 27:24better situation right now for the Mets to have success in the
- 27:26playoffs. So before they get to the last
- 27:28two questions, I want to go over what we were talking about
- 27:30yesterday. Peter with Errol and I are very
- 27:32close with Gerald Fulardi. Obviously with the New York
- 27:35Dragons, you were discussing something happened with them.
- 27:38So just breakdown what happened with them.
- 27:40It was a very unfortunate situation that we've seen with a
- 27:43lot of these different leagues. Yeah.
- 27:45Well, I mean, just so the back story to that is I was the radio
- 27:50play by play announcer for the original New York Dragons in the
- 27:53Arena League from 2001 to 2008. And then when the league shut
- 27:58down for a year and came back, the Dragons did not.
- 28:02So I had waited 17 years. So that was the best job I ever
- 28:06had, was doing play by play for the Dragons.
- 28:08I got to travel. I got to call football games.
- 28:12I got to meet a whole lot of great people.
- 28:14I got married during those eight years had we had our first child
- 28:17during those eight years. So that to me was the best job
- 28:20I've ever had. I waited 17 years for that team
- 28:23to come back. And in December, you know, I get
- 28:25approached by this, you know, representative of a new league
- 28:28and, you know, I go to work for them doing some consulting.
- 28:31And then they offered me the GM job for the Long Island team.
- 28:34And that Long Island team subsequently becomes the New
- 28:37York Dragons. I'm like, here it was, you know,
- 28:39the best time of my life professionally years ago and now
- 28:42I'm running the team that I was the play by play announcer for.
- 28:46So I was I was pretty excited about it and hired a great front
- 28:51office, hired coach Filardi to be our head coach.
- 28:53And you know, everything was going in the right direction.
- 28:55We were doing great with ticket sales and and sponsorships.
- 29:00We were doing really good and we created a really good buzz all
- 29:04over Long Island. We had, we had good coverage
- 29:06from Newsday and News 12 and, you know, greater Long Island,
- 29:10who I, who I write for and even Boomer and Gio on FAN would give
- 29:14me a lot of props every now and then for everything that was
- 29:17going on. But there was a point where
- 29:19things started to get a little bit sketchy.
- 29:22We were never able to get into our offices at Nassau Coliseum
- 29:25because the league didn't have insurance.
- 29:28We were not able to get, you know, certain things to to to
- 29:33proceed with a season. There was a point where they
- 29:36missed deadlines on equipment and the field and and other
- 29:42things. And it was a point where the
- 29:43owner of the league, this is unbelievable.
- 29:46The owner of the league actually came to us and said, do you
- 29:50think you can call a local high school and ask them if we can
- 29:53borrow their helmets? And I'm like, a square was a
- 29:58true story. They, they and I and there's
- 30:03just no, there's no way. I mean, where this is
- 30:05professional football and they said they bought a used field
- 30:11for us for the Coliseum. It was, it was utilized by this
- 30:16team in Beaumont, TX. And I said, well, what?
- 30:20And they're playing in a league that was playing a season before
- 30:23our season was supposed to start.
- 30:25And I'm looking online, I'm like, Beaumont is like 8 and
- 30:28one. They're going to make the
- 30:30playoffs, they're going to host playoff game.
- 30:32So I asked somebody with the league, I'm like, we're we're
- 30:35supposed to get this field. They're going to have a home
- 30:37playoff game. I called them last week.
- 30:39They they're going to have a home playoff game.
- 30:41I don't know. We're picking up that field next
- 30:43week. I'm like, how you picking up
- 30:45their field if their season is still going on?
- 30:47I was like, all these things were just going on.
- 30:49And then the final straw was middle of May, call it the
- 30:52Mother's Day massacre. Now my, my wife and my younger
- 30:57son and I would go out shopping that morning and I, I, my phone
- 31:02the whole ride out from where we live in, in Wanta out to the
- 31:06tanker outlets, my phone in my pocket is buzzing, buzzing,
- 31:10buzing, buzzing, buzzing. I'm like, how many people are
- 31:12calling that? I'm not a mother.
- 31:14Like why are people calling me on Mother's Day?
- 31:16We get, we get to Deer Park in the tanker outlets and I, I pick
- 31:20up my phone and it's a series of imbecilic e-mail sent out by the
- 31:25owner. And I don't know how they just
- 31:27came through, but they were sent out in the middle of the night.
- 31:29And he was questioning all these things we were doing.
- 31:32And it was just it, it, it sounded like he was a little
- 31:35off. So at that point that day, the
- 31:37three of us in the front office all were under the opinion that
- 31:41this was never going to happen. So we kind of mapped out our
- 31:45exit on June 2nd. We all resigned at the exact
- 31:47same time. We hit send on our e-mail at the
- 31:49exact same time to resign because we figured there was no
- 31:53way this was going to happen. We didn't have a field, we
- 31:55didn't have uniforms we didn't have, we didn't have down
- 32:00markers. We we didn't have any kind of
- 32:03funding to be able to get programs made.
- 32:06We couldn't. We had no, we had no merch to
- 32:09sell the fans like there was. We had nothing and we just knew
- 32:14it was not going in the right direction and sure enough, it
- 32:18didn't and people are still trying to get their money back.
- 32:23Holy. It just I'm kind of what like
- 32:28they're trying to get their money back.
- 32:29Did they not prepare for like did it didn't just sneak up on
- 32:32them? I'm like I was trying to come
- 32:35back with a follow up but I'm like I mean or why?
- 32:39The issue then became was that like if you bought season
- 32:41tickets and you bought a sponsorship, you, you deserve to
- 32:46get your money back. And the guy hasn't given his
- 32:48money back yet. And then they actually, and this
- 32:51is the other thing too. Our home opener at the Coliseum
- 32:54was supposed to be on on Saturday, June 14th.
- 32:59They never actually canceled the season.
- 33:03They never actually informed anybody that there was not going
- 33:06to be a season. And unless you read the article,
- 33:09like the day that we resigned, I did an interview with Newsday, I
- 33:13did an interview with the Post, I went on Boomer and Geo the
- 33:15next morning. I think the Patch did something
- 33:18with me. But unless you read any of those
- 33:22articles, unless you heard me on Boomer and Geo, unless you
- 33:25follow me on social media, you have no idea that we all
- 33:29resigned. And I, and I remember saying to
- 33:31my wife, I'm like, people live in a bubble.
- 33:33Not everybody listens to WFAN. Not everybody reads Newsday.
- 33:37People do live in a bubble in their everyday life.
- 33:40And my younger son Jared said, hey Dad, June 14th we were going
- 33:45to be in Arena Football anyway. And there's the other league,
- 33:47the Arena Football one. They have a team in Albany and I
- 33:50know the guy who runs that team and they wound up winning the
- 33:53championship of that league this year.
- 33:56And my son says, why don't we just go to Albany that day and
- 33:58go see the game? And we did.
- 34:00And we drive there. We check into our hotel and
- 34:03before we leave to go back to the arena.
- 34:05And I remember saying to my wife, I'm like, I am going to
- 34:07get text messages and I'm going to get phone calls from people
- 34:10who think there's a game at Nassau Coliseum tonight.
- 34:12And sure enough, 5:00, this guy calls my phone and I recognize
- 34:16the name because he was a season ticket holder.
- 34:18I sold him his season tickets. And I'm like, I let it go to
- 34:21voicemail. He texts me about 5 minutes
- 34:23later and says, hey, Pete, we're standing outside.
- 34:27There's about 60 or 70 of us outside the Nassau Coliseum.
- 34:31We're trying to get in for the game, and it looks like the
- 34:33place is closed. And I'm like, I'm like, I knew
- 34:37this was going to happen. There are people, literally the
- 34:40people were tailgating outside the Coliseum thinking they were
- 34:43going in to go see a football game.
- 34:45And I had this because I knew it was going to happen.
- 34:49People were going to inquire about what happened.
- 34:50I created this little screenshot.
- 34:53Hey, I don't work for the Entertainment Football
- 34:55Association or the New York Dragons anymore.
- 34:57Please contact this person who was the owner of the league.
- 35:00And just to me, you know, very, very John Spano, like how this
- 35:05guy ran. I don't think there was ever any
- 35:06intent of them to actually play one down.
- 35:10You know, people are calling to get their season ticket money
- 35:13back and he's claiming that, oh, I don't see any payment of
- 35:17yours. So he's like, it was a big giant
- 35:21mess and it was a giant waste of five months of my time.
- 35:24I want to apologize because I know you were excited.
- 35:28I know Felardi was excited. Gerald's a good friend of ours.
- 35:31And, and, and, and we, we spoke off air and I said, what the
- 35:35hell is going on, man? He was trying to explain it to
- 35:37me. I was like, what?
- 35:38I mean this this this story does this does look like this sounds
- 35:41like a spano and and it should be a 30 for 30 story.
- 35:45And you know, well, first of all, listen, I am, I'm by the
- 35:48way, if anybody wants to produce the 30 for 30 or the Netflix
- 35:51special, I'm hoping for negotiation on it because I'd
- 35:54be, there is, there is some pending litigation going on.
- 35:58So there's not a lot of other things I can go into, but
- 36:01there's going to be a, some, something written about this.
- 36:04And I, I felt, I felt bad because they brought two people
- 36:09into the front office who I become very, very good friends
- 36:12with. So if there was any kind of
- 36:13silver lining in the whole thing, I created 2 great
- 36:16friendships. And even the third one with
- 36:17Coach Felardi, I really didn't have a relationship with him.
- 36:21Actually was a mutual friend of ours that connected us during
- 36:24the interview process, right? And I was on the phone with him
- 36:26for an hour and I knew he was going to be my head coach.
- 36:30And I felt so freaking pissed that the two that we did not get
- 36:37to see this through because we had two open tryouts.
- 36:40We thought we brought in some really good football players
- 36:44that we thought were going to make Long Island proud.
- 36:46Our intent going into this whole thing, had it been real, was to
- 36:50try and create a very, very local team with local players.
- 36:53I hired a local coach. The three of us in the front
- 36:56office were all Long Island people.
- 36:58And this comes off of the New York Riptide lacrosse team
- 37:02leaving the Coliseum last year and their last year in the
- 37:05Coliseum. They played four years the last
- 37:08year in the Coliseum. You think about how big lacrosse
- 37:10is here on Long Island. The Riptide had 0 Long Island
- 37:14players on the roster their last year as they played at the
- 37:17Coliseum. And when I got the GM job, I'm
- 37:21like we have to do stuff to get people to come to the games.
- 37:24You have to create local interest.
- 37:27A lot of people on Long Island want to see their own.
- 37:29If if your kid played high school football or college
- 37:32football on Long Island, like that's what you want to go to
- 37:34see. And, and Coach Velardi bought
- 37:36into that. But had it been real?
- 37:39We were going in that direction. We had some really good players
- 37:42signed up that were ready to go to training camp.
- 37:44Oh, by the way, we couldn't get the money to pay the deposit for
- 37:47SUNY Farmingdale to get their feel for training.
- 37:49Camp. I just like how you say it.
- 37:51Had it been real? Well, you know what?
- 37:54That's I say that half joking, but like the biggest.
- 38:01Monopoly money. Monopoly money.
- 38:06They want, they wanted us to barter for everything, like,
- 38:10like what we needed. I, I, I'll give you an example.
- 38:15So you, you know, you go to these like street fairs and
- 38:17stuff like that and you see the local teams, like the Islanders
- 38:21always have a tent at these St. fairs, at the, at the train
- 38:24stations at, at feel, you know, whatever it might be.
- 38:27Like I wanted to get like all that crap that you would, you
- 38:30would come home with in a bag, like the back of the phone.
- 38:33You'd hold your credit cards in the back of the phone and, and
- 38:35the pens and, and little notebooks and, and, and T-shirts
- 38:39and everything like that. And the guy wouldn't let us buy
- 38:41anything. He said try to trade for it.
- 38:43I'm like, dude, this is Long Island.
- 38:45I mean, I mean, things are expensive here, you know, like
- 38:47you can't. And I and I and I, you know
- 38:49what, I gave it a shot because I was, I was, I was working for
- 38:52the guy. And I said, let me call around.
- 38:55I call people with the Long Island ducks.
- 38:56I call people with the Islanders.
- 38:58I call people with The Jets and the Giants, who I know, like, do
- 39:00you guys barter for your promotional items?
- 39:03No, we paid for them. Like we might be able to barter
- 39:08to get like a little bit off of it, but you have to pay for it.
- 39:11Like they literally wanted me to, to to barter for everything.
- 39:17And, and to to top that off, I bartered a radio deal.
- 39:21Our games were going to be broadcast on Nassau community
- 39:24colleges radio station, which if, if you were to pay them for
- 39:29the air time for our eight home games, our eight games and two
- 39:34playoff games. So for 10 games it it would have
- 39:37cost us like $11,000 if we just need for the airtime, right?
- 39:43I parted it with them down to nothing because the students
- 39:46were going to do the games, we were going to give them tickets,
- 39:48we were going to give them advertising on the dashboards
- 39:51and the programs. It was a complete watch.
- 39:53It was exactly what this guy wanted.
- 39:55I got this great deal for nothing and that was one of the
- 40:00imbecilic emails that I got on Mother's Day morning.
- 40:03Hey, I got a problem with this radio deal that you did what?
- 40:06We're not making any money on it.
- 40:07I'm like you told me to barter everything.
- 40:09I just borrowed you an $11,000 radio deal and you got a
- 40:12problem. Well, I don't care what you did.
- 40:14I want my attorney to look at it and it was this whole thing went
- 40:17on and on and on and what what my ultimate take away from this
- 40:21whole thing of the five months from the end of December to.
- 40:25June 2nd when we resigned the five months, whatever it was
- 40:28that I spent on this job, I was selling and promoting a product
- 40:34that wasn't real. It was never real.
- 40:37And that's, and that's I, I know why you're laughing and there
- 40:40is, there is a certain amount of of comedy to this whole thing,
- 40:44but like, it's it, it literally was like a real life music man.
- 40:48Did you ever see the the movie, The Music Man or the Broadway
- 40:50show? I'm just a headache.
- 40:51There was no. School band, like, you know,
- 40:53like the whole thing at the end was nonsense.
- 40:56So I was literally selling a product that wasn't real.
- 41:00And I feel awful for the people who bought season tickets, who
- 41:04bought sponsorships, fans that that, you know, the media
- 41:07outlets that gave us coverage. I want all those people to get.
- 41:12Their money back. Restitution, of course.
- 41:14I want them to get their money back there.
- 41:15There was a sponsor that bought a spot.
- 41:18They invited me to lunch. I met them at a Chamber of
- 41:21Commerce meeting near the beginning of this whole process
- 41:24like back in February. And they wanted to be a part of
- 41:27it. They wanted to be a sponsor with
- 41:30the guy had the guy went to games with his with his kids
- 41:32when years ago the original Dragons and they Take Me Out to
- 41:36lunch and they said we want to make a $10,000 investment in the
- 41:39team. And so they got a suite and they
- 41:41got tickets and they got a program and they got a dasher
- 41:44board. They I gave them everything for
- 41:4610 grand. I gave them whatever they
- 41:47wanted. Later on, right before we
- 41:50resigned, the owner of the league goes behind my back and
- 41:54calls the owner of that company and and basically screws him for
- 41:58$50,000 more to get him to invest in the whole league.
- 42:03So now this company is out $60,000 to this madman.
- 42:10Was this? Dude pocketing the money or
- 42:11what? He's got it.
- 42:12He's doing that. He's doing something with the
- 42:14money. He's out.
- 42:16He paid the original 10,000 that I sold him on and then the
- 42:20owner. And the reason why I say he went
- 42:22behind my back because I had it in my contract that I got a
- 42:25Commission if I brought an investor into the league.
- 42:28So he went behind my back to my client, got them to pay $50,000
- 42:33investment in the league. I get screwed out of the
- 42:36Commission. But it was I, I wish that owner
- 42:39of that company would have called me.
- 42:40And at that point I knew we were gone.
- 42:42At that point, I knew it wasn't going to happen.
- 42:44So I just wish the guy had said to me, if Peter, the owner
- 42:47called me and said, Hey, would you like we, you know, would you
- 42:50like to be an investor in a league?
- 42:51I would have said run for the hills.
- 42:54Well, Peter, I want to apologize, but.
- 42:57You. You.
- 42:59You. You.
- 43:00Pretty much squared everything away.
- 43:02I mean, everything. Anybody that wants to know about
- 43:05what happened with the Dragon story, well, ladies and
- 43:07gentlemen, Peter Schwartz just gave us 30 minutes of his time
- 43:11on explaining every single thing that happened with this owner,
- 43:16this league and this debacle. But listen, we love you man, and
- 43:21and you're doing such a great job right now.
- 43:23I remember listening to a WFN, we kind of interacted over the
- 43:27years and you're doing such a great job right now with Sports
- 43:30Bash Media and Greater Long Island and.
- 43:33Job is going to be on my show tomorrow.
- 43:35Yes he is. He told me he spoke to.
- 43:38Me what happened where you're a guest on somebody's podcast at
- 43:41night and then that guy is a guest on your podcast the next
- 43:44day? I don't think so.
- 43:46I've never heard of anything like.
- 43:47That I don't think I've done that, no.
- 43:50Well, and by the way, Jabba, we'll talk about this tomorrow,
- 43:53too. I'm still pissed at the way the
- 43:55Yankees handled you. No, you and 10 million other.
- 43:59People and Jabba, which Jabba mentions every single show so.
- 44:04I. Just I it'll be, it'll be in my
- 44:06book. It'll be in my book.
- 44:08It'll be in his book. I was, I was all, we were all as
- 44:12a Yankee fan base. We were all pumped up because we
- 44:14heard and you guys know you guys do the show with him.
- 44:17You know the story like it was like the Yankees went out of
- 44:20their way to warn that warn people to to alert people that
- 44:24they were going to bring job up and he was going to be a huge
- 44:27part of the bullpen and he was he was unbelievable.
- 44:30He was lights out and then back and forth to the starter, to the
- 44:34bullpen. I'm like, we had a great thing
- 44:36in you as a relief pitcher. You were awesome in the World
- 44:38Series in 2009. I don't know what the Yankees
- 44:41were thinking with that, but we'll talk more about.
- 44:43It you know what, Jeff Nelson's been on a show and Jeff Nelson's
- 44:47thought he would be a better starter than a bullpen guy.
- 44:49They should have just started him, but that's a whole nother
- 44:52story. You can get into it with Jabba.
- 44:54Jabba's looking good. He's looking fit.
- 44:56He's the fittest he's ever been, even even when he was a player.
- 44:59So Jabba lost some weight, so he got.
- 45:01He's got. Get somebody out.
- 45:03Well, you get somebody out. Jabba got a workout plan.
- 45:05Maybe he's. Planning to do some.
- 45:07I still play long toss with my son so maybe not as long and it
- 45:11takes me a little bit longer to get going but no, it's still
- 45:14there. Okay.
- 45:16Well, we got a bet, so we're going to be working on this bet.
- 45:19He maybe he'll talk about that on your show.
- 45:21But one of these days it's going to happen.
- 45:23He he's shaking his head. He's he's licking his lips.
- 45:26So anyways can we? Can we interest you in the Long
- 45:29Island Ducks? Maybe for an inning.
- 45:32Oh yeah, I might have to do that.
- 45:35I think one of our other guys I think didn't Nick.
- 45:36Goody, Nick. Goody.
- 45:38Iconic. I'm I'm one of their backup PA
- 45:42announcers. I'm doing their game tomorrow
- 45:43night. I was like nothing better than
- 45:45to introduce you coming out of the bullpen.
- 45:47Hey, but can this this not be like your last deal?
- 45:50Can I actually get paid to do it?
- 45:53For 25 years. OK.
- 45:57They're one of the most successful independent minor
- 46:00league franchises. In the yeah, trust me, I I know.
- 46:03I've I've heard of them. I know who they are.
- 46:05I'm just saying if I'm going to do it, I don't do it for free.
- 46:07No, listen, I'll give to Frank Boltons phone number.
- 46:11You give him a call like hates Jabba.
- 46:13They'll say, like, when can you be here?
- 46:15Perfect. They employed the good one, how
- 46:17could you not think? That's true.
- 46:19Actually, Goody was telling me when we were driving, when we
- 46:22were on our trip, he told me that he was paying two pitch.
- 46:26So when he was on the Ducks, he was like, it was like I was
- 46:30paying a pitch. It was like it was like I wasn't
- 46:33making any money. I was just enjoying the the
- 46:35opportunity to pitch for the Ducks.
- 46:38They. They've had they've had major
- 46:39leaguer after major. Leaguer.
- 46:41Through that whole league, you know, whether they're on the end
- 46:44at the end of their careers trying to get back or they just
- 46:47wanted to hang on and play a little bit more, it's been
- 46:50outstanding to watch that team play for 25 years.
- 46:53The goodie. Anyways, Peter, we really
- 46:55appreciate you. Keep up the good work.
- 46:57We'll get you on the show again soon.
- 47:00We really appreciate the time. After hopefully by that point
- 47:03the lead that the Dragon League owner is wearing an orange
- 47:06jumpsuit at that. Point.
- 47:09But we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll stone him.
- 47:11We'll, we'll, we'll set him up in the back of the wall and
- 47:12we'll start throwing stuff. We'll have Jabba stone him.
- 47:15There you go, he's in as long. Attacked by midges.
- 47:21As long as as long as he gets paid for.
- 47:23It rather throw balls at him, yes as.
- 47:25You go as long as he gets paid for it.
- 47:27Now, Peter, he's got to get paid, yes.
- 47:29I'll take care of it, I promise. Anyways, Peter, we really
- 47:34appreciate the time, buddy. Yeah.
- 47:35That was it was this was fun. Thanks.
- 47:36Our job. I'll talk to you tomorrow.
- 47:38Yeah, we'll see you tomorrow. Peter Schwartz, ladies and
- 47:41gentlemen, WFEN anchor, sports Bash media and great Long Island
- 47:46writer, great interview gave us his take on the Long Island
- 47:49Dragons and boy, oh boy, it was just an absolute world.
- 47:54I, I can't believe that I, I, I definitely, if I could reach out
- 47:59right now for 30 for 30 in ESPN, I would definitely link them up.
- 48:02That is a story that made absolutely no sense.
- 48:06It was a whirlwind. And I know Gerald, Gerald
- 48:08Filardi and he was telling, telling me the story.
- 48:10I was like, Gerald, I, I don't get this, but explain the story
- 48:13to me. And he was explaining it and now
- 48:15he explained it very, very well. What was going on.
- 48:18This guy was just full of, you know what, that's what he was.
- 48:22And he was just trying to barter and get everything for free to
- 48:25open up a league so he can take businesses, money to build
- 48:29whatever he was building an empire behind it.
- 48:31It was a Spano. It was absolutely what Spano did
- 48:35with the New York Islanders. But the way, yeah, the way Peter
- 48:38said it is basically just one of the one of those things where
- 48:40he's like, let me take their money.
- 48:41And he had no plans on doing anything with it.
- 48:44Like, and think about all the time that people probably spent
- 48:48and like, you know, wasn't getting paid out of that.
- 48:51Yeah, that, like when he said it, I wanted to come in and say
- 48:55something other than the dog was barking.
- 48:57I wanted to pun him, but just kidding.
- 49:03That's a joke, people, that that doesn't happen.
- 49:07You could send. You could send the dog after.
- 49:09Anchorman. Yeah, he punted Baxter.
- 49:13I'm going to class Case of emotion.
- 49:18You know who you know who would just felt like they got punted
- 49:21was JJ McCarthy just threw a pixel.
- 49:23He is not doing well. I think Justin Jefferson has
- 49:26four yards on one catch tonight. Not a great.
- 49:30Not a great start. All right, we'll see.
- 49:33It's still early. I mean, Danny Dimes, you know,
- 49:36through a wonderful football game.
- 49:38So, yeah, you never know, ladies and gentlemen.
- 49:40All right, ladies and gentlemen, save your tears.
- 49:43Mom, what's one thing? That you can't talk to me about.
- 49:47My sexual fantasies say your sorry.
- 49:51It is not ideal, but if it's what?
- 49:53It is not ideal. But if it is not ideal, but if
- 49:56it is, what? You get trouble stabbing.
- 49:59You can't treble stamp with double stamp, boy.
- 50:00You can't treble stamp with double stamp but but you.
- 50:05Guys, now it's time for save your tears a lot of hot ladies.
- 50:12All right, guys, we're here for the results.
- 50:15Suck my indo. Of Save Your Tears, you see the
- 50:18board we were picking from three different games from Week 1.
- 50:22Again, the winner of the game gets compliments in the
- 50:26compliment chorus from the rest of the competitors.
- 50:30Only the gold medalist and look who it is, Speedy PD with the
- 50:34slimmest of margins over Tommy poops in silver 69.52 to 69.42.
- 50:43Arrow marks coming in the show at 64.28.
- 50:47We got to stick to the points system here.
- 50:49So the points system I was going to say is 5 for first, 3 for
- 50:53second, one for 3rd, nothing for anything else.
- 50:57So speedy, you can keep a little tally of that.
- 50:59I'm sure he will. 4th now doesn't matter at then Jabba and
- 51:02Nathan with not a great showing. Every single player Nathan had
- 51:06was under 7.82 points. So Nathan gets.
- 51:12He's going to have to give you some compliments speedy when we
- 51:14get around to it, but other than that we'll go in reverse order.
- 51:18Here it is, Jabba for Speedy's compliment chorus.
- 51:24Speedy. Fantastic.
- 51:27It's just you continue to surprise me, but you don't
- 51:30surprise me because I should just start following you and,
- 51:34you know, be a be a good follower because you're a great
- 51:37leader. When you pick, save your tears
- 51:39and we should do like we should get like a medal or or a
- 51:42necklace and and just give it to you because the way you pick is
- 51:46just absolutely fantastic. Wow, that was a great job,
- 51:52Speedy. How does that got to lead it off
- 51:53really, really good? They're very emotional.
- 51:56OK, very emotional. I tried to.
- 51:58I couldn't get tears though. Oh.
- 52:01Yeah, I'm sure you you just didn't need to see some like
- 52:03litter go in the in the you. Sure it wasn't your dog, Chama?
- 52:09Speedy, I got to tell you there was a reason I didn't wear a hat
- 52:13tonight. Because my thinking cap is gone.
- 52:17Yours. The one that is very wrinkly and
- 52:21disheveled and flat brimmed and old logoed.
- 52:26The one you're wearing must be bringing you the brightness, the
- 52:32genius, the statistician, analytical savvy that it takes
- 52:41to win the first week of Sacred tears.
- 52:44Speedy, you the man. You dumb man.
- 52:49Dumb man. I didn't expect to attempt to.
- 52:52I'm lost Jamaican dialect. That was not Jamaican.
- 52:56You dumb on. I'm a little lost.
- 53:02You did a little lose. You came in 3rd and yes, you're.
- 53:05Next. Yeah, well, I I have a lot of
- 53:08negative things to say because over the last percent.
- 53:11Positive has to. Be 50. 1% positive.
- 53:13Listen, we all know that this is all about luck, but hey, you
- 53:17know, you have to understand how to play these games, fantasy and
- 53:21understanding who you picking and what team is playing what.
- 53:25And Speedy's one of the best at doing that.
- 53:27That's what he's great at is understanding what teams are
- 53:30matched up against, what player is matched up against, what
- 53:33defense and offense. So he's one of the best at that.
- 53:36If you would ask me who I would go to when it comes to certain
- 53:40players and who they're playing and and where they're playing, I
- 53:44would go to him because he knows that more than anybody does.
- 53:46So that would be my my thought to that.
- 53:49So he's one of the best at that as far as I'm concerned.
- 53:51So that's my compliment right there.
- 53:53I'm going to sell that. And I went with Dak beef.
- 53:55Take that. There you go.
- 53:56You did. You went with Dak.
- 53:57So did I. And it was a big mistake, by the
- 53:59way, that that you want to be not because.
- 54:05Of them, hey, it takes CJ Stroud.
- 54:07That's true, Tommy. Tommy, are you always the
- 54:10bridesmaid in this one? Am I always the bridesmaid?
- 54:14Yeah, well. I.
- 54:15Feel like you've been this close before as.
- 54:17Well, yeah. Well, honestly, I think this is
- 54:19about like the 4th, 5th time that I've been like second.
- 54:23So it's it's it's you got to get used to, can't you got to save
- 54:26your. Time.
- 54:27Because right now all it is is the spotlights on Speedy.
- 54:31Because Speedy, like Fish said, you done, man.
- 54:34Yeah. I mean, listen, are we
- 54:36surprised? I mean, are we really supposed
- 54:38to be surprised or the man, the myth, the legend?
- 54:40And a lot of times, you know, having the privilege to drop you
- 54:43off after the show, what not, and have a conversation with you
- 54:46about some good old football. Speedy will look at certain
- 54:49things, look at certain ways that people have ran in the
- 54:51past, certain coaching schemes that have worked farewell for
- 54:55teams in the past against a certain team or a certain
- 54:58player. I don't know how you dissect it
- 54:59the way you do Speedy, but man, it is one site to be.
- 55:03I'm not cleaning his underwear. Well, if that's the trick, I
- 55:05might have to. I might have to let it crust as
- 55:07well. Wearing his dirty underwear on
- 55:09his head that. Was Britney's underwear, I swear
- 55:12my head, not mine. Well then I was clean because
- 55:16she doesn't ever have dirty underwear.
- 55:20Oops, I do. I do appreciate the couple that
- 55:22I do. I do have to describe her one
- 55:23thing. Nathan is the legend though.
- 55:25That's true. He's definitely a.
- 55:27Legend. He owes you a compliment,

- 56:00Speedy, who do we have on Wednesday?
- 56:01Shout out to Nathan for getting this guy Jordan Ronin.
- 56:04He's the ESPN National NFL Nation reporter national
- 56:07reporter for the New York Football Giants.
- 56:09There you go and I know OU giant fans are going to love his takes
- 56:13about the giants. I know official, you know,
- 56:15probably you know what in his pants, but anyways, it's.
- 56:19Going to be terrible. He's going to say the team
- 56:20sucks. You know that's what's going to
- 56:22happen. Is he wrong?
- 56:25No. You you'll probably give them
- 56:27some credit with their defense. I mean, Abdul Carter's good.
- 56:30And then it ends right there they're.
- 56:32Great. Listen, you have some kind of
- 56:35future. You have Abdul Carter, you have
- 56:36Burns and you have Dexter Lawrence.
- 56:39Mr. Sexy Dexy, who, by the way, when he came into the league, I
- 56:43will never get credit for it. I'm the one who gave him that
- 56:46nickname. I called him Sexy Dexy so, and
- 56:49that was before he came from Clemson and everything that I
- 56:52called him Sexy Dexy. I'm telling you, Job is shaking
- 56:54his head. I was the one that gave him that
- 56:56nickname. I was the one that gave him that
- 56:58nickname. I need evidence.
- 57:00We'll go back. We'll go back to one of our
- 57:02shows because I have every one of our shows.
- 57:04Yes, I was the one that gave him the nickname.
- 57:07He was playing in the national championship Speedy and I called
- 57:11him Sexy Dexy and I said he I, I thought he was going to be a
- 57:15good player going to the NFL when the Giants drafted him too,
- 57:17because I watched him. He dominated in the national
- 57:20championship game. So I remember that's all I'm
- 57:23going to say. And the guy that drafted it was
- 57:26the Raiders that drafted him. I didn't think he was going to
- 57:28be good. Who was the guy who was the pass
- 57:30rush at the Raiders? Well, Ferrell.
- 57:32Ferrell yeah, I didn't think. He was the strange 4th overall
- 57:35pick. Like I thought he was going to
- 57:36be good, but not top five good. Yeah, I didn't.
- 57:39Think he was going to be good. I thought Dexter Lawrence had a
- 57:41really good national championship.
- 57:43That was the first of many. Mike Mayock, yes.
- 57:47Proving. Maybe he didn't know what he was
- 57:48talking. About well, he actually kind of,
- 57:49it actually kind of washed because in the fifth round they
- 57:51drafted Max Crosby, yes. He did.
- 57:53Yeah, but that's getting lucky. Yeah, just drafted Jacobs here
- 57:57too. That's right.
- 57:58Being bad at drafting and all the other.
- 57:59Rounds. Yeah, he did.
- 58:00I mean, there he wasn't. Did not a lot of slam dunk.
- 58:03No no 20/20/20 was the worst though.
- 58:05They drafted Henry Ruggs first, then they drafted Damon Arnett
- 58:08who was like a fourth round prospect in the first round that
- 58:10had all field issues. Yeah, it didn't make any sense.
- 58:12Anyways, we'll be back on Wednesday.
- 58:15Until then, this is Errol Jabba, Speedy Fish and the Poop Man
- 58:19saying good night. We'll talk to you then.
- 58:20Good night everybody. It's the worldwide sports radio
- 58:24network.
