Speaker 5: How are you? Budd?
• 2:42
Speaker 3: I have the big question I have to ask you
• 2:44
Speaker 3: before we get into anything else. And this is big time,
• 2:47
Speaker 3: major league stuff here. Okay, all right? How do you
• 2:51
Speaker 3: feel about Aaron Rodgers being in Pittsburghson? You being the
• 2:53
Speaker 3: Pittsburgh Steeler expert and the guy, how do you feel
• 2:59
Speaker 3: about Aaron Rodgers being a Steeler?
• 3:01
Speaker 1: You know, I was against the I was against the move.
• 3:03
Speaker 1: I've been up against those moves and they kind of
• 3:07
Speaker 1: the Steelers have been going after the retread quarterbacks now
• 3:10
Speaker 1: for a while, trying to find their way, and it's
• 3:12
Speaker 1: not working. So I was against this one as well.
• 3:15
Speaker 1: I think he's done. I think his stats show it.
• 3:18
Speaker 1: So it'll be another frustrating nine and eight year most likely.
• 3:21
Speaker 1: So lower your expectations. See, but not as low as
• 3:24
Speaker 1: the Cowboys. All right, See you had to go there.
• 3:26
Speaker 1: I give you an opportunity to talk about your team.
• 3:29
Speaker 1: And but you know, the Dallas Cowboys live rent free
• 3:34
Speaker 1: in Steeler fans' heads for some reason. I don't know why.
• 3:38
  Speaker 3: I mean, I actually like.
• 3:39
Speaker 1: Since it's been since what ninety five since you guys.
• 3:41
Speaker 3: To call them the Lombardi so well, technically ninety six
• 3:45
Speaker 3: because it was January now six. Yeah, all right, well
• 3:49
Speaker 3: you're all Rich. Sorry, sorry you can't say thanks. Yeah,
• 3:51
Speaker 3: it's nice to see you, Thanks for coming, all right.
• 3:53
Speaker 3: Rich comes in with us every so often, just talk
• 3:55
Speaker 3: about the real estate market here in the Kanaw Valley.
• 3:57
Speaker 3: And as always, Riches open to take questions if you
• 4:00
Speaker 3: got them. I feel free to give us a call.

• 4:09
Speaker 3: five five zero zero eight. Overall, it will break it
• 4:11
Speaker 3: down specifically, how is the market in the Kanaga Valley.
• 4:14
Speaker 1: You know, the market's about It just kind of has
• 4:16
Speaker 1: the EBB and flows and up and down a little bit.
• 4:18
Speaker 1: We I've said this before on the air and kind
• 4:21
Speaker 1: of reflect on this a little bit before prior of covid,
• 4:24
Speaker 1: our multiple listing service, which covers eleven counties here in
• 4:27
Speaker 1: the Call Valley board, we'd have between fifteen hundred and
• 4:31
Speaker 1: eighteen hundred active listings at all time. I mean, that's
• 4:34
Speaker 1: just kind of how it was. Probably one hundred and
• 4:36
Speaker 1: fifty or so of those were above seven hundred thousand dollars,
• 4:40
Speaker 1: and then another couple hundred of those were below one hundred,
• 4:43
Speaker 1: and that's those were kind of always there. But since
• 4:47
Speaker 1: twenty twenty one, for sure started dropping pretty harshly in
• 4:51
Speaker 1: twenty twenty, just inventory levels I've just not recovered. I mean,
• 4:54
Speaker 1: we're a little under six hundred now total, and we
• 4:57
Speaker 1: probably have close to one hundre undred of those seven
• 5:01
Speaker 1: hundred thousand dollars are up. Listings are still there, and
• 5:04
Speaker 1: one hundred of the ones that are one hundred thousand
• 5:06
Speaker 1: dollars or less, so there just aren't a lot to pick.
• 5:08
Speaker 1: Remember that's over eleven counties. Yeah, you know, so the
• 5:11
Speaker 1: inventory has not improved. It goes up a little bit.
• 5:14
Speaker 1: We'll go up close to six hundred, and we'll drop
• 5:16
Speaker 1: back down to five hundred, which is what happened during
• 5:18
Speaker 1: the We dropped back down to five hundred during the
• 5:20
Speaker 1: spring selling season. That kind of starts in March. It's
• 5:24
Speaker 1: slowing a little bit in the summertime, but we'll pick
• 5:26
Speaker 1: back up probably in August, maybe July, August or September.
• 5:29
Speaker 5: We'll do that a little bit more.
• 5:30
Speaker 3: And rich you know, you hear and we have. We've
• 5:32
Speaker 3: frequently talked about this on the show. I've had some
• 5:35
Speaker 3: elected officials. Taryll Ellis comes in from time to time
• 5:37
Speaker 3: from Advantage Valley. We talked about this need for homes here,
• 5:41
Speaker 3: specifically in the Kanawha Valley. And some people may hear
• 5:44
Speaker 3: that and they think, why do we need more homes.
• 5:46
Speaker 3: You're a realtor, explain why we need more homes?
• 5:48
Speaker 1: Well, the demand is high, so you can't get a
• 5:50
Speaker 1: rental either. So lots of folks that are in rentals
• 5:52
Speaker 1: are trying to get into the you know, the American
• 5:54
Speaker 1: dream kind of thing, to own your own piece of
• 5:56
Speaker 1: the piece of the pie, and so many advantages for
• 5:59
Speaker 1: owner ship versus renting, and uh, you know so, but
• 6:02
Speaker 1: there's so many people that can't even get to that.
• 6:03
Speaker 1: There are people that are trying to move here that
• 6:05
Speaker 1: can't find suitable housing for themselves. And you know, I
• 6:08
Speaker 1: did hear I don't have all the details on this,
• 6:10
Speaker 1: but I did hear a developer in the Point Pleasant
• 6:13
Speaker 1: area is going to build two hundred homes up there.
• 6:15
Speaker 1: I'm sure all the support, the ancillary jobs for New
• 6:18
Speaker 1: Court and all the kind of stuff that's going, but uh,
• 6:20
Speaker 1: there there is a demand here for those houses to
• 6:22
Speaker 1: be and you know, unfortunately, in the last several years,
• 6:25
Speaker 1: and this is my opinion, of course, but first of all,
• 6:29
Speaker 1: there aren't a lot of builders out there anymore who
• 6:31
Speaker 1: are building single family homes. Those builders that are out
• 6:34
Speaker 1: there are building apartments and quads and those kind of things.
• 6:38
Speaker 3: Now, why why is that?
• 6:39
  Speaker 6: Why?
• 6:39
Speaker 3: Why are they more interest? Is it because we have
• 6:42
Speaker 3: these workers coming in from let you know, you mentioned
• 6:44
Speaker 3: New Core in some of these other companies that are
• 6:47
Speaker 3: coming in that maybe they don't view it because you
• 6:50
Speaker 3: never know what the New Core and I'll use them
• 6:52
Speaker 3: for an example to which new Core is a major,
• 6:54
Speaker 3: you know, a major international company with with spots all
• 6:57
Speaker 3: around the United States, and do they just view that
• 7:00
Speaker 3: as maybe, well, we're coming in here, we don't know
• 7:04
Speaker 3: how long we're going to be here, so we may
• 7:05
Speaker 3: not necessarily want we may be transferred out to some places,
• 7:09
Speaker 3: we may not want to make that dive into a
• 7:12
Speaker 3: full family. I think that's that's the reason.
• 7:14
Speaker 1: I think that could be part of the reason. You know,
• 7:15
Speaker 1: I mean a lot of people are you know, and
• 7:17
Speaker 1: they're currently with rates that are close to seven percent too.
• 7:20
Speaker 1: People are more that you get stuck in those rates.
• 7:23
  Speaker 5: You know.
• 7:23
Speaker 1: That's another big problem we have with buyers these days
• 7:25
Speaker 1: is that you know, at some point a couple of
• 7:27
Speaker 1: years ago, there were problem I think the stack came
• 7:30
Speaker 1: out that there were seventy percent of all home owners
• 7:33
Speaker 1: who were in a mortgage had mortgages below four percent.
• 7:37
Speaker 1: Seventy percent, So why do you want to take those
• 7:39
Speaker 1: people into a seven percent Well, you know, what's the
• 7:41
Speaker 1: benefit for them? So if a person comes in now
• 7:43
Speaker 1: and buys, they're to seven percent mortgage, maybe they're planning
• 7:46
Speaker 1: on being there five years. Then they've got a seven
• 7:49
  Speaker 1: percent mortgage. Like, you know, it's just it's a it's
• 7:51
  Speaker 1: a I think it's a combination of all those things
• 7:53
Speaker 1: that are floating around there that are just kind of
• 7:56
  Speaker 1: creating our problem.
• 7:58
Speaker 3: Talking to Rich the realtor again of the Dave Island
• 8:01
Speaker 3: showing five eighty Live is brought to you parted by
• 8:03
Speaker 3: Husband's Pizza, where this month get a large et inch
• 8:05
Speaker 3: Pepperoni pizza and a whole tenants sub twenty three ninety
• 8:08
Speaker 3: nine find your hustand your closest hustins for delivery, pick
• 8:11
Speaker 3: up or dynam I going to Huston's Pizza dot com
• 8:13
Speaker 3: And again, you know you guys, it makes you know
• 8:16
Speaker 3: you're you're all over. You know you can sell wherever. Uh,
• 8:19
Speaker 3: but with your Tay's Valley, guy, that's where you that's
• 8:22
Speaker 3: where you live, It's where your offices and stuff. Talk
• 8:24
Speaker 3: about what's been going on in Tad's Valley with these
• 8:26
  Speaker 3: people come.
• 8:27
Speaker 1: Yeah. So one of the probably one of the benefits,
• 8:29
Speaker 1: well the biggest benefit about home ownership in the last
• 8:31
Speaker 1: since the COVID thing happened is just home values have
• 8:34
Speaker 1: gone just they've just got rocket, and you know, I
• 8:37
Speaker 1: think some people are holding out of the market thinking, well,
• 8:39
Speaker 1: they're going to come back down, and that is not
• 8:41
Speaker 1: looking like the trend. If you're holding out for those
• 8:44
Speaker 1: home home prices to come down, you're you're, you know,
• 8:47
Speaker 1: you're you're kind of fighting a losing battle there, in
• 8:49
Speaker 1: my opinion. I did a little research not too long ago.
• 8:54
Speaker 1: These are trailing twelve months from May to May. Okay,
• 8:57
Speaker 1: so just and this is just Putnam County. So from
• 9:00
Speaker 1: May twenty twenty two to May of twenty twenty three,
• 9:03
Speaker 1: in Putnam County, there were five hundred and thirty three
• 9:05
Speaker 1: homes sold, and the average price of those homes sold
• 9:08
Speaker 1: two seventy one nine fifty eight. This is all of
• 9:11
Speaker 1: Putnam County. That's one hundred and twenty four dollars a
• 9:14
Speaker 1: square foot. Okay. So then from twenty twenty three to
• 9:18
Speaker 1: twenty twenty four, there were six hundred and twenty seven
• 9:22
Speaker 1: homes sold in Putnam County for an average value of
• 9:25
Speaker 1: two eighty two nine to fifty four, one hundred and
• 9:27
Speaker 1: twenty nine dollars a square foot. So it went up
• 9:29
Speaker 1: on both of those spectrums. And then twenty twenty four
• 9:32
Speaker 1: to twenty twenty five is the bigger one five hundred
• 9:35
Speaker 1: and eleven sold, which is fewer, but the average price
• 9:39
Speaker 1: went to three h five to one twenty and that's
• 9:42
Speaker 1: one hundred and forty three dollars and eighty.
• 9:44
Speaker 5: Three cents a square foot.
• 9:45
Speaker 1: So the home values the price per square foot all
• 9:48
Speaker 1: of that has and Conal County is similar. I didn't
• 9:50
Speaker 1: run the exact numbers for Connell County, but that isn't
• 9:54
Speaker 1: the value of I mean, that's that's an advantage for
• 9:56
  Speaker 1: home ownership.
• 9:57
Speaker 3: It is in geed. It is indeed in.
• 10:01
  Speaker 5: You can't.
• 10:01
Speaker 3: We kind of touched this a little bit earlier. But
• 10:04
Speaker 3: the average person comes to you, what are they looking for,
• 10:06
Speaker 3: you know, as far as uh as a home, what
• 10:08
Speaker 3: what type of home are they looking for? The average
• 10:10
Speaker 3: where they had just average because.
• 10:11
Speaker 1: The average is three bedroom, two bath. You know, they
• 10:13
Speaker 1: like a little land. That's one of the funny. It's
• 10:15
Speaker 1: not funny, it's just the way it is that they
• 10:17
Speaker 1: you know, we want to have we don't really have
• 10:18
Speaker 1: any neighbors, but we want to live in Hurricane, you know,
• 10:20
Speaker 1: and there's fewer of those houses available out there. You know,
• 10:23
Speaker 1: you're going to be in a subdivision there's going to
• 10:25
  Speaker 1: be an hr.
• 10:26
Speaker 3: Let me jump in here. I got a good I
• 10:27
Speaker 3: got a good friend of mine who is looking to
• 10:30
Speaker 3: move his family into the Day's Valley area, and he
• 10:32
Speaker 3: told me that exact same thing. He said. He said,
• 10:35
Speaker 3: I want to be like right there in Hurricane and
• 10:38
Speaker 3: want to be in Tayese Valley, but I don't want
• 10:39
Speaker 3: to be too close to my neighbors. I'm thinking, well,
• 10:42
  Speaker 3: it's a tougher.
• 10:43
Speaker 1: Fine, doesn't mean it's not out. It's out, but you
• 10:46
Speaker 1: better bring your patients with you, you know, as we
• 10:48
Speaker 1: look for those homes. So but I'll tell you just
• 10:50
Speaker 1: a little bit for just touching on buyers a little.
• 10:54
Speaker 1: You know, first thing the buyers should be doing is
• 10:56
Speaker 1: getting pre qualified, and they should talk to a lender.
• 10:58
Speaker 1: There are many options for loans, and not all loans
• 11:01
Speaker 1: are for the same It's not a cookie cutter scenario.
• 11:05
Speaker 1: If you talk to just one of the banks, they're
• 11:07
Speaker 1: going to have, you know, kind of a very narrow
• 11:10
Speaker 1: amount or options for loans. But if you're go to
• 11:12
Speaker 1: one of these lenders like Gateway Mortgage or Prime Lending
• 11:15
Speaker 1: or Rate Mortgage, just there's so many of those that
• 11:19
Speaker 1: are out there and they each have different programs for
• 11:22
Speaker 1: different buyers, and I would I would highly encourage buyers
• 11:25
Speaker 1: to go get pre qualified. It's a free, twenty minute
• 11:29
Speaker 1: phone call. Helps you understand what your payments are going
• 11:32
Speaker 1: to be like. I'll help you factor in all of
• 11:34
Speaker 1: your you know, your escro account, all of that thing
• 11:36
Speaker 1: for that you'll need to know before you start shopping.
• 11:39
  Speaker 3: You know.
• 11:39
Speaker 1: One of the worst things can happen is that you
• 11:42
Speaker 1: find an agent and they show you a house that
• 11:44
Speaker 1: you think you can afford, and let's say it's fifty
• 11:46
Speaker 1: thousand dollars over your asking or over your budget that
• 11:48
Speaker 1: you're not even aware of yet, and it's going to
• 11:50
Speaker 1: be really difficult to find a home when you go
• 11:52
Speaker 1: and talk to a lender and you find out you
• 11:55
Speaker 1: can't afford that, and you have to you have to
• 11:57
Speaker 1: drop down in value in those homes.
• 11:59
  Speaker 5: It's hard to.
• 12:00
Speaker 1: Those that will meet your expectation.
• 12:02
  Speaker 3: You know.
• 12:03
Speaker 1: So you get your loan sorted and understand what it's
• 12:07
Speaker 1: going to be like so that you're comfortable with it,
• 12:09
Speaker 1: and then find your agent, find them and have them
• 12:11
Speaker 1: start looking, and you know, you'd still have to sign
• 12:13
Speaker 1: the buyer's representation agreement. Remember that everything in real estate.
• 12:17
Speaker 1: First rule of real estate is everything is negotiable. And
• 12:19
Speaker 1: that's not just the home price, but it's the seller concessions,
• 12:22
Speaker 1: it's commissions, it's the personal property that's left behind at
• 12:26
Speaker 1: the house. Everything in real estate is negotiable.
• 12:29
Speaker 3: But I don't need a realtorm I can just use Zillow.
• 12:33
Speaker 1: Well, yeah, good luck.
• 12:35
Speaker 3: You know so I set you up?
• 12:37
Speaker 1: Yeah, so you did. Yeah, And I have to be
• 12:39
Speaker 1: careful what I say about that kind of thing. I
• 12:40
Speaker 1: can know you have to. I would highly encourage you
• 12:43
Speaker 1: to use a professional.
• 12:44
Speaker 3: I mean, there's all you need to say.
• 12:46
Speaker 1: You don't. You don't. Most at one point eighty percent
• 12:49
Speaker 1: of all homes that were particularly on the seller's side,
• 12:52
Speaker 1: eighty percent of those did not make it to closing.
• 12:54
  Speaker 1: There's a lot going navigate, there's a lot going on.
• 12:56
Speaker 1: This is a huge and you're most likely your biggest
• 12:59
Speaker 1: purchase of your life. I think you'd want some representation
• 13:01
Speaker 1: who know what they're doing.
• 13:02
Speaker 3: All right, before we let you go. Is there any
• 13:04
Speaker 3: particular properties out there right now that you're.
• 13:07
Speaker 1: Yeah, so, I'd like to see everyone toward the seventy
• 13:10
Speaker 1: five points out of a drive in scott Deepot This
• 13:12
Speaker 1: is a giant, fifty six hundred square foot home. It
• 13:14
Speaker 1: has a twenty three one hundred square foot basement that's
• 13:18
Speaker 1: not finished but has a full gym in there with
• 13:20
  Speaker 1: a sauna, so much potential. Has a pull. It's it's
• 13:23
Speaker 1: in a just right off of where sixty four and
• 13:26
Speaker 1: Route thirty five come together. It also has an assumable loans.
• 13:30
Speaker 1: It's going to be something if you want to talk
• 13:32
Speaker 1: about how that works. There are lots of moving parts
• 13:34
Speaker 1: doing a superable alone, but the seller is a veteran
• 13:38
Speaker 1: and that loan becomes assumable and his rates at two
• 13:40
Speaker 1: point three seven five, So that's two point three seven
• 13:43
Speaker 1: five rate that is assumable. Now, there's some moving parts
• 13:46
Speaker 1: there and you have to have some You can't just
• 13:48
  Speaker 1: take over payments.
• 13:49
Speaker 3: It doesn't work that way.
• 13:50
Speaker 1: But you are assuming the loan and if you can,
• 13:52
Speaker 1: if you have the cash available to buy the equity
• 13:55
Speaker 1: that's in the home, then that might be for you.
• 13:58
Speaker 1: That's a significant difference, you know, from a seven percent mortgage.
• 14:02
Speaker 1: And people can see that home where they can find
• 14:05
Speaker 1: it on any of the secondary sites, the realtor dot
• 14:07
Speaker 1: coms or those zillows or those kinds of things, or
• 14:09
Speaker 1: they can call or text me directly and I can
• 14:11
Speaker 1: send you the link right from the MLS including all
• 14:13
Speaker 1: the disclosures. And again it's seventy five points out of
• 14:17
Speaker 1: a drive in scott Depot.
• 14:18
Speaker 3: It's a beautiful home too, I've seen it online, just
• 14:20
Speaker 3: beautiful home. Do have a question here for you? Somebody
• 14:22
Speaker 3: did have a question towards the end said, with so
• 14:24
Speaker 3: many abandoned homes as well as neglected plots of land,
• 14:27
Speaker 3: what is the ratio of those properties just sitting there
• 14:29
Speaker 3: compared to home applications? Would buy those properties? Help with those?
• 14:34
Speaker 3: It could help with those.
• 14:35
Speaker 1: Most of those Most of those abandoned properties are flip opportunities.
• 14:39
Speaker 1: And again, some of those builders that are out there
• 14:41
Speaker 1: that are who are only doing flips now might might
• 14:43
Speaker 1: pull those out and and try and you know, flip
• 14:47
Speaker 1: those for a profit. And you know flippers are always
• 14:49
Speaker 1: looking at cops too, So some of those abandoned properties. Now,
• 14:51
Speaker 1: the plots of land are a different story. I feel
• 14:54
Speaker 1: like we still have plenty of land to build on,
• 14:56
Speaker 1: but again you have to have the builders to do that.
• 14:59
Speaker 1: But those flip opportunities are those ones that are that
• 15:02
Speaker 1: have to have the comps around them. And support the
• 15:04
Speaker 1: investment that goes into it. And remember the one hundred and
• 15:06
Speaker 1: forty three dollars a square foot on the sold is
• 15:09
Speaker 1: that's cheaper to buy the house like that than it
• 15:12
Speaker 1: is to buy the material to flip or to build.
• 15:14
Speaker 3: We didn't even get into commercial properties. We'll do that
• 15:16
Speaker 3: next time you hear that sounds good, Rich the realtor.
• 15:18
Speaker 3: How can people contact you? Yeah, call me or text

• 18:17
Speaker 5: Good morning Dave. Thanks for having me, Thank you for
• 18:19
  Speaker 5: being here.
• 18:19
Speaker 3: All right, So we've heard over the last several months
• 18:22
Speaker 3: about a lot of changes commit to KRT. You've been
• 18:25
Speaker 3: on the show a couple times to talk about what's
• 18:26
Speaker 3: already happened possible You called it off the air this morning,
• 18:29
Speaker 3: you said, kind of in the home stretch, and there's
• 18:31
Speaker 3: public meetings coming up, kind of updates on what's already
• 18:35
Speaker 3: happened and what's to come with KRT.
• 18:37
Speaker 5: Sure, so, thanks Dave. That's correct.
• 18:39
Speaker 10: So about two years ago we took a really hard
• 18:41
Speaker 10: look at KRTS system in general and said, hey, what's working,
• 18:44
Speaker 10: what's not working. We started a series of public hearings
• 18:47
Speaker 10: where we got feedback from our passengers and from the
• 18:50
Speaker 10: community saying, hey, here's what we think works with our routes.
• 18:53
Speaker 10: What can we do to make our system more efficient
• 18:55
Speaker 10: and actually do more with the same amount of funding right,
• 18:58
Speaker 10: So we came out in last fall. In October, our
• 19:02
Speaker 10: board made a decision to take essentially, originally there was
• 19:05
Speaker 10: a plan to eliminate about eleven routes. Instead of doing that,
• 19:08
Speaker 10: we actually have the service for those routes, and then
• 19:12
Speaker 10: the Sunday service dropped.
• 19:13
  Speaker 5: Off for us.
• 19:14
Speaker 10: So those changes took place in February of this year,
• 19:17
Speaker 10: and now we're coming back to the table and saying, Okay, well,
• 19:20
Speaker 10: how did those changes work. How are our new plans
• 19:23
Speaker 10: as far as this micro transit concept that we have
• 19:25
Speaker 10: the KRT plus that we originally had three pilot zones
• 19:29
Speaker 10: for the program. Now we're looking at expanding that out
• 19:32
Speaker 10: to six zones so we can cover up some of
• 19:34
Speaker 10: these areas that were traditionally served by these fixed routes
• 19:38
Speaker 10: that are extremely over subsidized.
• 19:40
Speaker 5: So we said, hey, if it costs.
• 19:41
Speaker 10: So much to operate the bus line on these routes,
• 19:43
Speaker 10: can we perform the same service get people to work
• 19:46
Speaker 10: doctors' offices, grocery stores, but do it in a more
• 19:48
Speaker 10: efficient way with smaller vehicles.
• 19:50
Speaker 5: And that's what we're doing and we're excited about it.
• 19:53
Speaker 3: What were some of the I mean, when you started
• 19:55
Speaker 3: making the changes Shawn in February, and you said, we're
• 19:59
Speaker 3: kind of take look at how those changes when how
• 20:01
Speaker 3: did they go, which she did so far.
• 20:03
Speaker 10: Yeah, So what we wanted to see was how the
• 20:05
Speaker 10: adoption of the micro transit program. So we went we
• 20:09
Speaker 10: started in October with that program. We're now hovering around
• 20:12
Speaker 10: thirty five hundred rides a month, so individuals are picking
• 20:15
Speaker 10: that up. And again that was in a small area
• 20:17
Speaker 10: just East Charleston, West Charleston and South Hills. So we
• 20:20
Speaker 10: think that we were able to accomplish about a ninety
• 20:22
Speaker 10: percent completion rate, and some of that stuff we can't
• 20:25
Speaker 10: control when individuals cancel a ride, et cetera, so that
• 20:28
Speaker 10: kind of bumps our numbers down. But from seeing that
• 20:31
Speaker 10: we could provide ninety percent of the service there for
• 20:33
Speaker 10: thirty five hundred rides, it gave us the confidence to say, yes,
• 20:36
Speaker 10: we can make this a bigger area. And by making
• 20:38
Speaker 10: that a bigger area, we can then cover those routes
• 20:41
Speaker 10: that traditionally were we call them the hill routes there.
• 20:43
Speaker 10: So there's six different routes that we're looking at and saying,
• 20:46
Speaker 10: can we replace those six routes with micro transit which
• 20:49
Speaker 10: will save us money at KRT, but also will give
• 20:51
Speaker 10: our passengers an option to continue to have public service.
• 20:54
Speaker 10: So instead of taking something away from them and saying, hey,
• 20:56
Speaker 10: you know we don't have anything to replace us with,
• 20:59
Speaker 10: thankfully we have some and we're confident.
• 21:00
Speaker 5: Will work that will actually provide them service.
• 21:02
Speaker 3: And explain the concert of micro transit.
• 21:05
Speaker 10: Yeah, so micro transit is essentially the same as when
• 21:08
Speaker 10: you call ride share service so uber lyft, but think
• 21:10
Speaker 10: that Kart operates it. So you've got these drug tested,
• 21:13
Speaker 10: background checked individuals, You've got cameras on the vehicles. You
• 21:16
Speaker 10: can go download a KRT plus app right now in
• 21:18
Speaker 10: the Apple Store, the Google Play Store, or you can
• 21:21
Speaker 10: just call into our office and schedule an old school style.
• 21:23
Speaker 10: Either way whatever works for people. But they get on
• 21:26
Speaker 10: the app or they call into our office and say, hey,
• 21:28
Speaker 10: I need a ride tomorrow at seven am at my home.
• 21:31
Speaker 10: I'm going somewhere either inside my zone or I'm going
• 21:35
Speaker 10: to a fixed route. I'm going to the bus line somewhere,
• 21:38
Speaker 10: and our system will then schedule that route.
• 21:40
Speaker 5: A smaller vehicle will show up. We've got these smaller
• 21:42
Speaker 5: sprinter vans that we actually just purchased.
• 21:45
Speaker 10: They'll show up, pick you up and take you to
• 21:47
Speaker 10: that location for the same dollar fifty it would have
• 21:49
Speaker 10: cost you to ride the bus. That saves us money
• 21:52
Speaker 10: because instead of driving those buses around all day long
• 21:54
Speaker 10: up and down those hills, there's more expensive buses, less
• 21:57
Speaker 10: fuel efficient and if there's not as many people ride
• 22:00
  Speaker 10: those actual routes.
• 22:01
Speaker 5: Now we're only going out there in a smaller vehicle
• 22:03
Speaker 5: when someone needs the ride.
• 22:05
Speaker 3: And talk about the vehicles, I mean, I mean again,
• 22:08
Speaker 3: these are not the large buses that you're used to
• 22:11
Speaker 3: seeing there. What I would say like they're transit vans
• 22:15
Speaker 3: kind of look like a church van maybe something like that.
• 22:17
Speaker 10: Expose exactly so people will have noticed there's some smaller
• 22:20
Speaker 10: vans going around Kanawak County. They're gray style of van.
• 22:23
Speaker 10: That's what we've been using for our micro transit service
• 22:25
Speaker 10: to date. In the next two weeks we're rolling out
• 22:28
Speaker 10: fourteen new Sprinter style vans. So it's exactly what you're
• 22:31
Speaker 10: talking about. It's a smaller vehicle for us. That's great
• 22:34
Speaker 10: for several different reasons. It's a lower price point, it's
• 22:37
Speaker 10: a Ford transit vehicle, so we save about thirty thousand
• 22:39
Speaker 10: dollars versus our prior model. Of pair of transit vehicles,
• 22:43
Speaker 10: but it's also more fuel efficient, it's smaller. Therefore our
• 22:46
Speaker 10: drivers have an easier time when you know, squeezing into
• 22:49
Speaker 10: some of these different locations that tend to be a
• 22:51
Speaker 10: problem historically, So it's a win win win there. But
• 22:54
Speaker 10: it also still has the same level of functionality and
• 22:57
Speaker 10: comfort for our passengers, which is important.
• 23:00
Speaker 3: Talking to Sean Hill and the executive director of KRT
• 23:02
Speaker 3: to Dave Allen show in five eighty Live is presented

Speaker 3: in part by Generations Physical Therapy nine practices all offered

• 23:11
Speaker 3: easier for an amployment three zero four, seven, six zero,
• 23:13
Speaker 3: fifty six sixty or visit generations pt dot com. Let's
• 23:17
Speaker 3: go back a little bit and talk about where we
• 23:20
Speaker 3: go from the very beginning for the reasons for these
• 23:23
Speaker 3: changes that the first started being talked about. As you
• 23:26
  Speaker 3: said last year.
• 23:27
Speaker 10: Sure, and I think what's important that we've learned through
• 23:29
Speaker 10: this process is that transit public transit it specifically needs
• 23:34
Speaker 10: to be something that we look at fluidly. So instead
• 23:36
Speaker 10: of looking at it every ten or fifteen years and
• 23:38
Speaker 10: doing a study and say, okay, what's right and what's wrong.
• 23:40
Speaker 10: It's something that needs to be looked at every single
• 23:42
Speaker 10: year and saying, hey, what modifications can happen in order
• 23:45
Speaker 10: to maximize and make this system work for as many
• 23:48
Speaker 10: people as possible. So essentially what happened was for the
• 23:53
Speaker 10: fifty three years that KRT was in existence, we were
• 23:56
Speaker 10: expanding and going to all these places. And Knaw County
• 23:58
Speaker 10: is a challenging county to serve with public transit or
• 24:00
Speaker 10: any transit, it's a tough problem to solve. So what
• 24:04
Speaker 10: you ended up with was a system that looked kind
• 24:06
Speaker 10: of like a spaghetti mess on the kitchen table of
• 24:10
Speaker 10: all the routes that KRT would go to almost every
• 24:12
Speaker 10: corner of the county. But what we saw was when
• 24:15
Speaker 10: you look at the data of who actually rides those routes,
• 24:17
Speaker 10: about eighty five percent of our ridership, or on just
• 24:20
Speaker 10: three routes you're going to Nitro, You're going to Cross
• 24:23
Speaker 10: Lanes Saint Albans that carries the majority of our ridership,
• 24:27
Speaker 10: and these other routes that kind of tentacle out and
• 24:29
Speaker 10: the pieces of spaghetti are much smaller, smaller ridership numbers.
• 24:34
Speaker 10: So that's when we started looking at other alternatives. What
• 24:37
Speaker 10: can we do to still provide service but save some
• 24:40
Speaker 10: money too and live in within our means.
• 24:42
Speaker 5: That's our big goal.
• 24:43
Speaker 10: We want to make sure that we can say we're
• 24:44
Speaker 10: being responsible with the funds that we are given.
• 24:47
Speaker 3: And where did the funds come from for those that
• 24:49
  Speaker 3: don't know.
• 24:50
Speaker 10: Sure, So about seventy percent of our funds come from
• 24:52
Speaker 10: the Kanawk County Public Safety Levee. So the biggest thing
• 24:55
Speaker 10: for us is the safety levee. So when that comes up,
• 24:58
Speaker 10: it's a big deal for us to make sure we
• 25:00
Speaker 10: can say, hey, here's what KRT offers. You know, we
• 25:02
Speaker 10: offer bus service. We offer this on demand service, our
• 25:05
Speaker 10: pair of transit services. On days like today, if you
• 25:08
Speaker 10: from ten to eight, from ten am to eight pm,
• 25:11
Speaker 10: you come down to the city center, there's a cooling
• 25:12
Speaker 10: bus down there, so individuals who are out there and
• 25:14
Speaker 10: the heat can actually hop on the bus and you
• 25:17
Speaker 10: not have to be experiencing that. We provide evacuations whenever
• 25:20
Speaker 10: there's an emergency somewhere in Kanaha County, so we rely
• 25:23
Speaker 10: on that safety levee for the majority of our funding.
• 25:26
Speaker 10: The Feds come in with about twenty percent of our funding.
• 25:29
Speaker 10: Seven percent of it is from actual ticketing costs. So
• 25:31
Speaker 10: when our passengers say we'll just raise the ticket prices
• 25:33
Speaker 10: and now solve the problem, that's not where our funding
• 25:35
Speaker 10: comes from. We recognize that it's from the safety levee,
• 25:38
Speaker 10: it's from the federal government and from the state. So
• 25:41
Speaker 10: it's again it's taxpayer money, and that's why we are
• 25:44
Speaker 10: so protective of that and say, hey, we want to
• 25:47
Speaker 10: make sure we're as fiscally responsible as possible. So we
• 25:49
Speaker 10: can look people in the eye in Kanawha County and
• 25:51
Speaker 10: say we're trying everything we can to make our dollars
• 25:53
  Speaker 10: go further.
• 25:54
Speaker 3: And it's inexpensive. I mean, to ride the bus, it's
• 25:57
Speaker 3: point blank just an expensive.
• 25:58
Speaker 10: So it's very expensive. I mean, it's still that one
• 26:01
Speaker 10: dollar fifty cents single ride. We're actually on July fourteenth,
• 26:06
Speaker 10: we're enacting some of the fare changes. So the only
• 26:09
Speaker 10: difference there is that our single ride is going to
• 26:12
Speaker 10: stay the same, our day pass will go from two
• 26:13
Speaker 10: fifty to three fifty, which is still very reasonable, and
• 26:16
Speaker 10: our monthly passes are actually going to drop from sixty
• 26:18
Speaker 10: dollars down to fifty dollars.
• 26:20
Speaker 3: That's something you don't hear very often.
• 26:21
Speaker 10: Price is dropping yeah, we're dropping them down to fifty dollars,
• 26:24
  Speaker 10: and we're also capping them. It's it's a program called
• 26:27
Speaker 10: fair capping where you say, look if you get if
• 26:29
Speaker 10: you spend fifty dollars at KRT in one thirty day period,
• 26:33
Speaker 10: if you go to buy another ticket, it's going to
• 26:35
Speaker 10: be free. Because what we what we recognize from looking
• 26:37
Speaker 10: at the data was individuals at the beginning of the
• 26:39
Speaker 10: month wouldn't want to lay down sixty dollars to get
• 26:42
Speaker 10: a month pass, but they'd end up paying that two
• 26:45
Speaker 10: fifty a day, which would end up adding up to
• 26:47
Speaker 10: more than if they had just bought the pass on
• 26:49
Speaker 10: the first day. So this this is saying, hey, for
• 26:51
Speaker 10: our people who ride every single day, we want to
• 26:53
Speaker 10: give you a break and recognize that. So once you
• 26:56
Speaker 10: spend that fifty dollars, you will ride for free with
• 26:58
Speaker 10: KRT for the rest of the month. So that's important
• 27:01
Speaker 10: to us, and that's our way of giving back to
• 27:02
Speaker 10: those everyday riders. And a text too of us said,
• 27:05
Speaker 10: are car seats required for babies?
• 27:08
Speaker 5: Car seats are required for babies.
• 27:10
Speaker 10: Yes, so, and it would depend on which style, if
• 27:14
Speaker 10: you're with the micro transit or if you're riding on
• 27:18
Speaker 10: the actual bus, but we we'd be happy to. On
• 27:21
Speaker 10: our website, there's some information on the rules as far
• 27:24
Speaker 10: as ridership, because we have different rules as far as heights,
• 27:26
Speaker 10: et cetera. As it relates to if the individuals can
• 27:30
Speaker 10: ride alone, but babies themselves, you would want a lot
• 27:32
Speaker 10: of times you have people on strollers that they're able
• 27:34
  Speaker 10: to attach onto.
• 27:36
  Speaker 5: The actual vehicles.
• 27:38
Speaker 3: And what is the website?
• 27:39
Speaker 10: Again, it's right on kart dot com. So if you
• 27:41
Speaker 10: go to dodo w dot right on krt dot com.
• 27:44
Speaker 10: There's also an informational page if you look for public information,
• 27:47
Speaker 10: you can see all the information for.
• 27:49
Speaker 5: The public hearings that we're having.
• 27:51
Speaker 10: And one of those is today at five pm at
• 27:53
Speaker 10: the Knacki Public Library and the other one is Friday
• 27:56
  Speaker 10: at noon at.
• 27:56
Speaker 3: The and I want to give those public hearings. And
• 27:59
Speaker 3: just a moment, we have another question here, did you
• 28:01
Speaker 3: have to hire more drivers?
• 28:04
Speaker 5: So what we have is a fleet of drivers.
• 28:07
Speaker 10: We have our fixed route operators, so those are what
• 28:08
Speaker 10: you would call a bus driver, and then we have
• 28:10
Speaker 10: on demand drivers which who operate these the micro transit,
• 28:13
Speaker 10: the paratransit and our sore program.
• 28:15
Speaker 3: So it does pretty much work like an uber or
• 28:17
Speaker 3: a lyft or something like that. They're just on demand.
• 28:20
Speaker 5: They are on demand, so they'll be driving around.
• 28:21
Speaker 10: So what they have three different functions they are at
• 28:24
Speaker 10: times they are transporting the individuals who qualify for our
• 28:26
  Speaker 10: paratransit program.
• 28:28
Speaker 5: So those individuals qualify because they have.
• 28:30
Speaker 10: Some challenge that makes it so they can't drive themselves, right,
• 28:33
Speaker 10: So these vehicles are out in those areas already and
• 28:36
Speaker 10: in between picking up those paratransit rides, they are then
• 28:39
Speaker 10: diverted over to these micro transit rides when possible and
• 28:42
Speaker 10: kind of shuffle around all day, essentially the same as
• 28:44
  Speaker 10: an uber.
• 28:45
Speaker 5: They just come back to KRTA at night.
• 28:47
Speaker 3: And what has that response been since you've had Yeah,
• 28:50
  Speaker 3: it's been positive.
• 28:51
Speaker 10: You know, it's it's tough to get a clear understanding.
• 28:54
Speaker 10: People ask, how's the pilot program working?
• 28:56
  Speaker 6: Well?
• 28:57
Speaker 10: I point to the ninety percent of the completion, point
• 29:00
Speaker 10: to the numbers of rides going up every single month.
• 29:02
Speaker 10: We're now hovering around thirty five hundred. But it's tough
• 29:05
Speaker 10: to say for sure micro transit works when it replaces
• 29:09
Speaker 10: these fixed routes. Right now, what we've had for the
• 29:12
Speaker 10: last several months is micro transit layered on top of
• 29:16
Speaker 10: the fixed routes, so.
• 29:17
Speaker 5: You're not really seeing the cost savings there.
• 29:19
Speaker 10: And we did that because our board was cognizant of
• 29:22
Speaker 10: the fact of, hey, this is a big change for
• 29:24
Speaker 10: Kanawk County. How do we do this in a way
• 29:25
Speaker 10: that's comfortable for our passengers. And we're now to that
• 29:28
Speaker 10: point where we're saying, okay, let's take the training wheels off,
• 29:31
Speaker 10: remove the fixed route line, and let the micro transit
• 29:34
  Speaker 10: really take over.
• 29:35
Speaker 3: Sometimes people just don't like change. I mean, sure, President
• 29:37
Speaker 3: Company included, you just don't like change.
• 29:40
Speaker 10: Hey, I don't pretend that I understand how challenging it
• 29:42
Speaker 10: is to ride the bus every day. I think a
• 29:45
Speaker 10: lot of us take take our vehicles for granted. I
• 29:47
Speaker 10: think the people who ride the bus are very resourceful
• 29:50
Speaker 10: and they can't adapt to the change. But I certainly
• 29:53
Speaker 10: think that their concerns are valid. I want them to
• 29:56
Speaker 10: know that we've done everything we can to make sure
• 29:58
Speaker 10: that those areas that these change are taking place still
• 30:01
Speaker 10: have service of some type. Last thing we want to
• 30:03
Speaker 10: do is pull the rug out and say, hey, I
• 30:06
Speaker 10: don't know how you're getting to work if you live
• 30:08
Speaker 10: in this area or that area.
• 30:09
Speaker 5: We don't want to do that to people.
• 30:10
Speaker 10: We want to say, hey, this is new and this
• 30:13
Speaker 10: is a change, and we want to do everything we
• 30:15
Speaker 10: can to educate you and tell you how it works.
• 30:17
Speaker 10: But we want you to be able to get to work.
• 30:19
Speaker 10: We want to make sure, we say care Tea, we
• 30:20
Speaker 10: connect people to opportunity. That's what we want to do
• 30:23
  Speaker 10: with our services.
• 30:24
Speaker 3: Let's go back and talk about these public hearings. You
• 30:26
Speaker 3: got one coming up today. Talk about the wares and
• 30:30
Speaker 3: the winds, but more importantly, what do you hope to
• 30:33
Speaker 3: gain from these public media Start with the one this afternoon.
• 30:37
Speaker 10: Yeah, so this afternoon at five pm at the Kanawk
• 30:39
Speaker 10: County Public Library on Capitol Street. And again we're going
• 30:42
Speaker 10: to mirror that at noon on Friday at the same
• 30:44
Speaker 10: knawh County Public Library. The idea of those meetings are
• 30:48
Speaker 10: to share these plans, to say, hey, here's what this
• 30:51
Speaker 10: looks like. I want to paint a picture of why
• 30:55
Speaker 10: charity is in this situation. So hey, here's our funding,
• 30:57
Speaker 10: here's what it costs to operate care Tea. Here's why
• 31:00
Speaker 10: we're making this tough decision, and we want to give
• 31:02
Speaker 10: our passengers a chance to give us some feedback and
• 31:04
Speaker 10: say hey, this is the reality of how these changes
• 31:06
Speaker 10: will impact me on a daily basis, so I can
• 31:09
Speaker 10: take that back to my board and say hey, here's
• 31:12
  Speaker 10: the feedback.
• 31:12
Speaker 5: From the community on these potential changes.
• 31:15
Speaker 10: It's tough because it's a little bit different than the
• 31:17
Speaker 10: last time where we sat down and said, hey, are
• 31:20
Speaker 10: there any other ideas we can do to kind of
• 31:23
Speaker 10: mitigate these damages of potentially Originally it was taken away
• 31:26
Speaker 10: eleven routes, and I think we did that.
• 31:29
Speaker 5: We met in the.
• 31:29
Speaker 10: Middle and decreased frequency, but didn't eliminate anything. This one
• 31:32
Speaker 10: is more saying, hey, we know this program can work,
• 31:35
Speaker 10: and this is what we want to do, and this
• 31:36
Speaker 10: is how we're actually going to save money and care
• 31:38
  Speaker 10: to and.
• 31:39
Speaker 3: When you've had these public meetings, because you've had other
• 31:41
Speaker 3: public meetings on this and people have come and they've
• 31:43
Speaker 3: expressed concerns. People have said, I think this is a
• 31:46
Speaker 3: good idea. Others, like I said, sometimes we don't like change.
• 31:48
Speaker 3: I completely understand that what have you taken from those
• 31:51
Speaker 3: public meetings and how valuable have they been in going
• 31:54
Speaker 3: forward with these plans that.
• 31:55
Speaker 10: You be sure And I think in different pieces and
• 31:58
Speaker 10: I appreciate every person who comes in and takes the
• 32:00
Speaker 10: time out of their day to come. And again you
• 32:03
Speaker 10: say that, you know a lot of people don't take
• 32:04
Speaker 10: time out of their day to come tell you you're
• 32:05
Speaker 10: doing a good job. Yeah, they may want to show
• 32:07
Speaker 10: up and tell you what they're frustrated with, and that's
• 32:09
Speaker 10: that's completely fine. But the one thing we heard was, hey,
• 32:12
Speaker 10: don't take it all away from us.
• 32:13
  Speaker 5: You can.
• 32:14
Speaker 10: We understand that times are tough, we understand you have
• 32:16
Speaker 10: a reality to live within, but don't take it all
• 32:18
Speaker 10: away from us. And I was proud that we were
• 32:20
Speaker 10: able to come back to the table and say, Okay,
• 32:22
Speaker 10: maybe Sundays don't happen anymore, but six days a week,
• 32:25
Speaker 10: we're still providing service to those areas. And even with
• 32:28
Speaker 10: this change now saying hey, six routes that if they
• 32:32
Speaker 10: don't have the fixed route service, they're still going to
• 32:34
Speaker 10: have an opportunity to do to get to where they're
• 32:36
Speaker 10: going with KRT and kr T plus.
• 32:38
Speaker 3: Right, So you got five o'clock today and then noon
• 32:41
Speaker 3: on Fridayriday, correct, yes, sir, and both at the Kana
• 32:43
Speaker 3: Public Library. If for one reason or another people cannot
• 32:47
Speaker 3: make those meeting, maybe they're working, or they get soubild
• 32:49
Speaker 3: school and whatever. Is there a way for them to
• 32:52
Speaker 3: weigh in as well.
• 32:53
Speaker 10: Yeah, we will record those and individuals can actually either
• 32:56
Speaker 10: hop on a zoom and watch it if they're somewhere,
• 32:58
Speaker 10: but we will record those so they can watch them,
• 33:00
Speaker 10: and we will have links up also where they can
• 33:02
Speaker 10: submit their comcast to us. We take those comments and
• 33:04
Speaker 10: send them out to our board members, so every single
• 33:06
Speaker 10: one of them can be categorized and they can read
• 33:08
Speaker 10: those and see because again it's real feedback. It's this
• 33:11
Speaker 10: is real change for people's everyday life, and we appreciate
• 33:14
Speaker 10: and respect that and want to do that as easily
• 33:16
Speaker 10: as possible for people.
• 33:18
Speaker 3: Sean Hill, executive director of kr SEE, I appreciate you
• 33:20
Speaker 3: taking time ay your schedule to be here. As I said,
• 33:23
Speaker 3: you know, change is not always easy, and you've always
• 33:27
Speaker 3: been very open to come on the show and talk
• 33:29
Speaker 3: about it and with these public meetings and whatever. So
• 33:32
Speaker 3: we'll see how everything goes, and I hope you have
• 33:34
Speaker 3: a good turnout because again that's that's what they need.
• 33:36
Speaker 3: They need turnout. For those of you that use KRT,
• 33:40
Speaker 3: it's noon on Friday and then five o'clock today public

• 38:35
Speaker 3: we're to get in some politics as where as well,
• 38:38
Speaker 3: Howard is a lot more left of center than I am.
• 38:42
Speaker 3: And for those of you who think that I'm liberal
• 38:45
Speaker 3: and people think that and other people think I'm too conservative,
• 38:48
Speaker 3: I don't know. This means I'm doing something right, I guess.
• 38:50
Speaker 3: Howard definitely liberal. Great guy though, so He'll be on
• 38:54
Speaker 3: the show during the two o'clock hour today. Also, State
• 38:56
Speaker 3: Republican Party chair Matt Herridge will join us to weigh
• 38:58
Speaker 3: in on Trump, on Israel, etc. We'll continue to talk
• 39:02
Speaker 3: about the heat as you may expect, apparently the heat
• 39:06
Speaker 3: is it's very hot. And of course Open Line West
• 39:09
Speaker 3: Virginia coming up at after two thirty, Metro News Midday,
• 39:12
Speaker 3: Just me today. Coming up today noon till three on
• 39:16
Speaker 3: this show Tomorrow, Tim Brady from the Charleston CVB. We'll
• 39:19
Speaker 3: be stopping by, looking forward to our conversation as always
• 39:23
Speaker 3: with mister Brady. Tex says Israel and Iran violate Trump's
• 39:27
Speaker 3: peace deal. Trump was so mad he dropped the F
• 39:30
Speaker 3: bomb on ceasepan. Check that clip out if you can
• 39:33
Speaker 3: find it. It's hilarious and makes a coherent, valid statement,
• 39:36
Speaker 3: and he makes a co erit valid statement, says to yeah,
• 39:39
  Speaker 3: he's a little upset. I heard that. I didn't hear
• 39:42
Speaker 3: it live, but I did hear it overnight. The exact
• 39:45
Speaker 3: quote was, and of course I lost that had it
• 39:48
Speaker 3: on my phone and I lost it, but it was
• 39:49
Speaker 3: basically something to the effect of Israel and Iran don't
• 39:53
Speaker 3: know what the blank they are doing. That was the
• 39:55
Speaker 3: exact statement. This comes, of course, after yesterday when it
• 39:59
Speaker 3: was was a world win of activity yesterday afternoon, and
• 40:02
Speaker 3: I've got to cover most of it on the on
• 40:04
Speaker 3: Metro News midday yesterday, as I guess, after one o'clock
• 40:09
Speaker 3: our time or something like that, Iran fired on Cutter
• 40:15
Speaker 3: and the missiles that they fired were intercepted by Katari
• 40:18
Speaker 3: officials and no casualties or anything like that. And then
• 40:23
Speaker 3: a late afternoon President Trump announces a ceasefire, but apparently
• 40:29
Speaker 3: that ceasefire didn't cease fire very much because the bombs
• 40:33
Speaker 3: were still flying overnight. Just picturing one of the sizes goes, oh,
• 40:38
Speaker 3: you meant that exactly. You meant a real I mean,
• 40:41
Speaker 3: you meant that for real. So we'll see what happens.
• 40:44
Speaker 3: It's an ever developing story of the guys on talk Line.
• 40:46
Speaker 3: Of course, we'll have coverage and I'll have more coverage
• 40:48
Speaker 3: coming up later today on Metro News midday. The governor
• 40:52
Speaker 3: has a press event today in Beckley at eleven. Don't
• 40:55
Speaker 3: really know what it's about, but the talk line boys
• 40:58
Speaker 3: and of course Brad will be covering it as well.
• 41:00
Speaker 3: I want to just drop this in here quickly. This story,
• 41:05
Speaker 3: if you want to call it, that broke late last week.
• 41:07
Speaker 3: It has to do with a couple of West Virginia
• 41:08
Speaker 3: Circuit Court judges, one of those being Judge Mary Clair
• 41:11
Speaker 3: Akers here in Kennawa County. Chris Dickerson of the West
• 41:14
Speaker 3: Virginia Record, which follows and monitors the court system in
• 41:18
Speaker 3: West Virginia, first reported on it, and it is reported
• 41:20
Speaker 3: again today in the Gazette mail. Judge Acres and a
• 41:24
Speaker 3: judge from Pleasant's County, Judge Tim Sweeney, word monished for
• 41:27
Speaker 3: what was said to media members as it pertained to
• 41:30
Speaker 3: child welfare issues. In the matter with Judge Acres, the
• 41:34
Speaker 3: West Virginia Judicial Disciplinary Council open up a complaint in March,
• 41:38
Speaker 3: and Judge Acres replied through her attorney in April in
• 41:42
Speaker 3: via email. May thirteenth, and you will recall that the
• 41:46
Speaker 3: Judge Acres had presided on an issue of abuse neglect.
• 41:52
Speaker 3: Are actually several neglect cases this was involved a minor.
• 41:56
Speaker 3: And here's what we understand about the story. Judge Acres
• 42:01
Speaker 3: learned that a twelve year old had attempted suicide after
• 42:05
Speaker 3: being placed in a hotel when a foster placement didn't
• 42:09
Speaker 3: work out. Now, the article continues, Judge Acres entered and
• 42:11
Speaker 3: administrative order calling for the Secretary of the State's DHR
• 42:15
Speaker 3: to come before her to discuss the situation. The meeting
• 42:18
Speaker 3: took place in February, late February, and there were actually
• 42:22
Speaker 3: several media members their intendance. Judge Acres was quoted in
• 42:27
Speaker 3: a story that was covered by WSAZ television and the
• 42:30
Speaker 3: next day she was on talkline And apparently the complaint
• 42:33
Speaker 3: or whatever it was, had to do with the fact
• 42:37
Speaker 3: that on her talk line appearance she alluded to her
• 42:40
Speaker 3: time as a prosecutor in Kanawh County. Seems like kind
• 42:44
Speaker 3: of small potatoes to me, but what do I know.
• 42:48
Speaker 3: By a seven to one vote, the JIC said it
• 42:51
Speaker 3: found probable cause that Judge Acres had violated four rules
• 42:55
Speaker 3: of Code of the Code of Judicial Conduct, but no
• 42:58
Speaker 3: formal discipline was happening. And when I read that story,
• 43:02
Speaker 3: and I read it last week, it was actually actually
• 43:05
Speaker 3: Judge Acres. Actually, well, I'll know, should I say that
• 43:07
Speaker 3: that she talked to the media, Maybe I shouldn't. It
• 43:10
Speaker 3: just seems like a lot of crap to me. Then
• 43:12
Speaker 3: that's just me. I mean, in my opinion, she did
• 43:15
Speaker 3: absolutely nothing wrong around of bounds, and most people seem
• 43:18
Speaker 3: to agree with it. I've actually had several people that
• 43:19
Speaker 3: have reached out to me asking to come on the show,
• 43:23
Speaker 3: to come to Judge Acres defense, you know, and similar
• 43:26
Speaker 3: stories may have been told about the judge out of
• 43:28
Speaker 3: Pleasants County as well, So a lot of people out
• 43:32
Speaker 3: to defender. Not that the woman we affectionately called Judge
• 43:35
Speaker 3: kick Ass needs needs any help. By the way, TJ.
• 43:39
Speaker 3: Meadows has written a commentary about it. It'll probably be
• 43:41
Speaker 3: posted on the website tomorrow and will be heard on
• 43:44
Speaker 3: air tomorrow morning. Again, it seems like much ado about
• 43:47
Speaker 3: nothing to me, but not my wheelhouse.
• 43:50
Speaker 5: So what do I know?
• 43:52
Speaker 3: But Dave Alan Show on five to eighty Live is

Speaker 3: When is the legislature going to start paying attention to

• 47:13

• 47:15
Speaker 3: out to your legislators. Reach out to your legislators. I
• 47:18
Speaker 3: agree with you more Uh Texas, Dave. I'm not a judge,
• 47:23
Speaker 3: but if Judge Acres is wrong, I don't want to
• 47:26
Speaker 3: be right. State leaders should be ashamed that a judge
• 47:28
Speaker 3: gets reprimanded for speaking the truth about their failed foster
• 47:32
Speaker 3: care system. Our state leaders are worthless when it comes
• 47:35
Speaker 3: to child welfare, healthcare, and education in the state. They
• 47:38
Speaker 3: are white people don't want to come here, not the
• 47:41
Speaker 3: likes of Judge Acres as a Texter. Of course, the
• 47:45
Speaker 3: story that has many of us upset is the fact
• 47:49
Speaker 3: that Graziano's is closing their downtown Capitol Street location second time.
• 47:54
Speaker 3: The day of announced that this time it appears to
• 47:57
Speaker 3: be for real. Though it's sad, you know, I really
• 48:00
Speaker 3: like Graziano's, especially the downtown location. It's kind of got
• 48:04
Speaker 3: that that that big city Delhi, real pizza style feel
• 48:08
Speaker 3: to it. I am sad to see it go, but
• 48:10
Speaker 3: I will say this. I was downtown Friday night for
• 48:14
Speaker 3: the launch of Animal Ale. That was the night that's
• 48:17
Speaker 3: Steve Animal beer being sold exclusively at Five Street Brewery.
• 48:20
Speaker 3: We had a big launch party six o'clock Friday evening,
• 48:23
Speaker 3: and the vibe in downtown Charleston Friday night was absolutely amazing.
• 48:29
Speaker 3: I mean, people everywhere the and it was it was
• 48:33
Speaker 3: the kind of people that you want downtown. And what
• 48:38
Speaker 3: I mean by that is all walks of life, professional people, families,
• 48:45
Speaker 3: downtown just enjoying. Well. I guess technically was spring at
• 48:49
Speaker 3: that time because summer didn't kick Inndle Friday night, but
• 48:53
Speaker 3: for all intends and purposes, it was summer, summertime evening
• 48:56
Speaker 3: in the capital city. Just everybody. We actually a couple
• 49:01
Speaker 3: of us from the station actually walked here. I know
• 49:03
Speaker 3: you're thinking, Dave Allen walked. Yeah, I actually walked from
• 49:05
Speaker 3: here from our offices at eleven eleven down over to
• 49:09
Speaker 3: Summer Street to five Street, and uh, it's just the
• 49:14
Speaker 3: I don't know, man, just the vibe downtown I just
• 49:16
Speaker 3: thought was really really cool. And that's what It's what
• 49:19
Speaker 3: the City of Charleston had said that they wanted when
• 49:23
Speaker 3: they first started developing these things, like you know, closing
• 49:25
Speaker 3: the streets for downtown eateries and things that in all
• 49:28
Speaker 3: the naysayers everybody said, oh, it'll never work, and by blah, Well,
• 49:31
Speaker 3: this seems to be working pretty well. I mean, based
• 49:33
Speaker 3: on the amount of people that were in downtown Charleston
• 49:35
Speaker 3: on Friday evening. And again no issues whatsoever. Not saying
• 49:39
Speaker 3: downtown Charleston's perfect. No, downtown it's perfect by any stretch
• 49:42
Speaker 3: of the imagination, but I will say there were a
• 49:44
Speaker 3: whole lot of people down there. All the restaurants were
• 49:47
Speaker 3: just booming, and uh, it was just a great vibe
• 49:51
Speaker 3: for the capital city. And if we had people in
• 49:53
Speaker 3: from from out of town, even even better, a great look,
• 49:58
Speaker 3: if you will. I mean it, it took us a
• 50:00
Speaker 3: while to even get into five Street. That says something
• 50:02
Speaker 3: about the popularity of Steve Animal or the amount of
• 50:05
Speaker 3: people he owes money to one of the two. But
• 50:07
Speaker 3: everybody was just kind of crowding in there. To five Street.
• 50:10
Speaker 3: It was the same at Short Story, it was the
• 50:12
Speaker 3: same ati Aadelphia and all of those downtown Charleston locations.
• 50:17
Speaker 3: So hats off. And then I didn't make it over
• 50:21
Speaker 3: to the Rolls on the River because by that point
• 50:23
Speaker 3: I was pretty much tired and I'm old and need
• 50:26
Speaker 3: to get back home to Putnam County. But Rolls on
• 50:29
Speaker 3: the River was great. And then what happened on Saturday
• 50:33
Speaker 3: on the boulevard. I mean, we shut down basically from
• 50:37
Speaker 3: an area from Greenbrier Street down to California and thousands,
• 50:42
Speaker 3: literally thousands of people at fohone with the dome. And
• 50:45
Speaker 3: again people will say I don't want to be around
• 50:48
Speaker 3: a bunch of drunks. There was absolutely none of that whatsoever,
• 50:51
Speaker 3: zero zilch, none of it. No issues with either event.
• 50:54
Speaker 3: So again I just say that to say this, I am.
• 50:57
Speaker 3: I'm very happy that at least it's not perfect, but
• 51:01
Speaker 3: he stretch of the imagination so got a wye to go.
• 51:03
Speaker 3: But I am very happy to say the downtown Charleston
• 51:05
Speaker 3: is turning in some corners with having events. That's not
• 51:08
Speaker 3: like an editorial on behalf of me. They're turning some
• 51:10
Speaker 3: corners when it comes to things like that. But Dave
• 51:12
Speaker 3: Island showing five eighty Live is brought to you by
• 51:14
Speaker 3: Morgan and Morgan. If you're injured and higher Morgan to Morgan,
• 51:17
Speaker 3: America's largest injury law firm, TG Meadows Susman Man, Are
• 51:20
Speaker 3: I mean, could you be any busier this morning because
• 51:22
Speaker 3: you come down frequently and you work in the production
• 51:26
Speaker 3: studio where Ryan and I've just been seeing you going
• 51:29
Speaker 3: back and forth on a fund. Are you just trying
• 51:31
Speaker 3: to make yourself look important though?
• 51:33
  Speaker 15: I mean there's a lot going on. There's a lot
• 51:35
Speaker 15: going on Iran Israel. What's going on with that? In
• 51:38
Speaker 15: case you haven't notice, it's really hot outside.
• 51:40
Speaker 3: Yeah, so I've been Have you noticed as a temperature
• 51:43
Speaker 3: goes up, it tends to get hotter. It's solid science there, Dave.
• 51:48
  Speaker 5: I'm not.
• 51:51
Speaker 3: I'm not just a pretty face. Well, you know, so
• 51:53
Speaker 3: I'm watching energy markets.
• 51:55
Speaker 15: I'm watching the actual stock market this morning based on
• 51:58
Speaker 15: what's going on with the ceasefire, the oil markets. Oil
• 52:00
Speaker 15: futures are going down and oil prices are going down,
• 52:03
Speaker 15: and the market doesn't think that Iran's going to do
• 52:05
Speaker 15: anything with the straight up her moose and they're not.
• 52:08
Speaker 15: President is upset, you know, he drops some language this morning.
• 52:11
Speaker 15: So there's a lot going on in the world. There's
• 52:14
Speaker 15: a NATO summit coming up, you know, a lot happening, so,
• 52:17
Speaker 15: you know, trying to keep on top of all of.
• 52:18
Speaker 3: It, all right, and the governor speaking in backly eleven o'clock.
• 52:20
Speaker 3: We'll find out what it's about, because we don't know
• 52:22
Speaker 3: as of yet. We don't, so it's hey, come to
• 52:25
Speaker 3: the press conference and see what we're going to talk about.
• 52:27
  Speaker 15: There you go.
• 52:27
Speaker 3: I'll be back with Metro News midday solo this week again.
