- 0:01Speaker 1: If you know what I'm saying, so so shameless, If
- 0:07Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, due, so shameless, If you
- 0:13Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, socialamous, so shameless, so so so shameless.
- 0:24Speaker 1: If you know what I'm saying, so shameless. If you
- 0:30Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, so shameless. If you know what I'm.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Saying, Social said, here is chaos. If you know what
- 0:42Speaker 2: I'm saying, chaos.
- 0:47Speaker 3: She actually said, this is the most chaotic part of
- 0:49Speaker 3: her life.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Actually, I said that, why did you say that?
- 0:51Speaker 4: That's crazy?
- 0:56Speaker 3: Can you elaborate what is? I think expound?
- 1:01Speaker 2: No, that's a complete sentence.
- 1:05Speaker 3: And somebody said to me the other day.
- 1:08Speaker 5: Matter of fact, I think I said to somebody the
- 1:09Speaker 5: other day, I said, I'm not really interesting. I'm not
- 1:15Speaker 5: really interested in anything you have to offer to this conversation.
- 1:19Speaker 5: I love that, And they said it was rude, and
- 1:24Speaker 5: I was thinking of Dodge. I was literally thinking that
- 1:27Speaker 5: I was speaking like Dodge because I was just being direct.
- 1:31Speaker 5: I really don't care what you have to say about
- 1:35Speaker 5: the situation. So me engaging in this with you is
- 1:39Speaker 5: kind of doing you more favor than it is me.
- 1:42Speaker 5: I don't give a fuck what you have to say,
- 1:44Speaker 5: and that's that's that was the polite way for me
- 1:47Speaker 5: to say, I don't give a fuck what you have
- 1:48Speaker 5: to say. Nothing that you have to say will change
- 1:52Speaker 5: anything that I'm gonna do. So why do I have
- 1:55Speaker 5: to have this conversation you don't?
- 1:58Speaker 6: And now they called me rude for that because people
- 2:01Speaker 6: they direct. No, it's not rude that part. People one
- 2:06Speaker 6: are not used to people being direct too, Like people
- 2:09Speaker 6: don't understand that clear is kind like for me to
- 2:11Speaker 6: sit here and pussy foot around my feelings and dope
- 2:14Speaker 6: on it like that's actually mean, it's more fake. It's
- 2:18Speaker 6: better for me to be very honest with you and
- 2:20Speaker 6: be clear with you, like, hey, this is where I
- 2:23Speaker 6: feel like you land in this conversation. Your opinion is
- 2:26Speaker 6: not something that I'm going to hold near and dear
- 2:28Speaker 6: to me. So why would I even allow you to
- 2:31Speaker 6: put yourself in a position to start saying shit to
- 2:33Speaker 6: me that I don't care about?
- 2:35Speaker 2: Would you do that?
- 2:36Speaker 3: You ever say that? Or would you just give the
- 2:37Speaker 3: person just the floor and let them speak.
- 2:40Speaker 4: I could see how that could come off being rude.
- 2:43Speaker 4: I would say it, maybe not in the same direct
- 2:46Speaker 4: way as you, only because I don't know I'm just
- 2:49Speaker 4: less confrontational.
- 2:51Speaker 6: You think that's confrontational, it could be. I think it also.
- 2:57Speaker 6: I think it depends on what people do for a living. Also,
- 3:00Speaker 6: And this is about to come off a little bit snobby,
- 3:04Speaker 6: but I'm sorry. If you're not used to having direct
- 3:07Speaker 6: conversations and making big decisions every single day, certain things
- 3:11Speaker 6: is like above what you're used to, and you don't understand,
- 3:14Speaker 6: like that was as clear and direct, like that is
- 3:17Speaker 6: like boardroom conversation, Like we are sitting at a conference
- 3:19Speaker 6: table and I'm being very clear with you, like your
- 3:22Speaker 6: input is not needed in this space right now.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Thank you so much? Rude about that, Like, there's nothing.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Rude about it.
- 3:33Speaker 4: I would just find a different way to say the
- 3:36Speaker 4: same thing. That's just naturally who I am.
- 3:39Speaker 5: Again, I am not particularly interested in anything you have
- 3:43Speaker 5: to offer to this conversation.
- 3:44Speaker 6: I think it said something like that, Why would you
- 3:49Speaker 6: say that?
- 3:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I think this conversation has made its peak and
- 3:57Speaker 4: we're gonna go on separate ways, and so to something
- 4:01Speaker 4: to that regard where it's not necessarily pointing at you,
- 4:06Speaker 4: but it's like I'm gonna let you know that I'm
- 4:08Speaker 4: done here without pointing at you. As the problem.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Possibly, but isn't a little dismissive.
- 4:14Speaker 4: I mean, either way, you gotta you gotta be, you
- 4:16Speaker 4: gotta set your boundaries either way. But for me, it's
- 4:19Speaker 4: just a different way to do it and accomplish the
- 4:21Speaker 4: same thing. As long as I'm walking away from the conversation,
- 4:25Speaker 4: I don't have to necessarily insult you.
- 4:27Speaker 6: Right, I think that, Yeah, I think that that was
- 4:33Speaker 6: a great way to put that. I inspired to do that,
- 4:36Speaker 6: to be that direct, no, no, to be that nice
- 4:38Speaker 6: about it. I'm direct, but not in a nice way.
- 4:41Speaker 2: What would you say? Not that say what you would.
- 4:44Speaker 7: Say, like a very worst version, I would say, like
- 4:49Speaker 7: when he said, he said, I don't think you have
- 4:51Speaker 7: anything else to offer the conversation, not particularly interested that
- 4:54Speaker 7: you have to get like particularly particularly interested, Like those
- 4:58Speaker 7: are all very kind ending words, like you've for me
- 5:01Speaker 7: that made you, that made you feel like all right,
- 5:03Speaker 7: Like you don't want to hear what I gotta say,
- 5:04Speaker 7: But I feel okay about it, Like I don't feel
- 5:07Speaker 7: like shit. I'm saying, like, Yo, I'm gonna be honest
- 5:10Speaker 7: with you. I don't give a fuck, but I'm gonna
- 5:15Speaker 7: apologize because I know that that's rue. But I don't
- 5:18Speaker 7: have what you just did. I don't have that in
- 5:20Speaker 7: that moment. So I'm gonna say, yo, I'm gonna be honest.
- 5:22Speaker 7: I don't care, but I see you, but I just
- 5:26Speaker 7: don't necessarily care. And I don't want to act like
- 5:28Speaker 7: I care, because to me, that's fake. So I'm not
- 5:30Speaker 7: gonna act like I care. I'm going to tell you
- 5:32Speaker 7: I don't care and tell you that I apologize for
- 5:34Speaker 7: not caring.
- 5:35Speaker 3: But you know, I have a clip from this lady.
- 5:38Speaker 3: She's been doing this thing.
- 5:39Speaker 5: It's about code switching, and I think that's where this
- 5:42Speaker 5: conversation kind of there's an intersection there.
- 5:44Speaker 8: Right.
- 5:44Speaker 9: Let me see, even when code switching is successful, even
- 5:48Speaker 9: when it gets you the job, the promotion, the seat.
- 5:50Speaker 2: At the table, it.
- 5:52Speaker 10: Extracts a cost to Jenny Clark. Let's talk about what
- 5:55Speaker 10: that cost actually is. First, there's a cognitive load. You're
- 6:00Speaker 10: not just doing your job. You're monitoring your language, your tone,
- 6:04Speaker 10: your body language, your cultural references, your humor. You're running
- 6:08Speaker 10: a constant background calculation. Is this safe to say, well,
- 6:12Speaker 10: this mark VIA's other? My code switching enough for too much?
- 6:15Speaker 10: That takes energy, mental energy, emotional energy, energy that could
- 6:20Speaker 10: be going towards your actual work, your creativity, your leadership,
- 6:24Speaker 10: but instead it's going toward the performance of belonging. Second,
- 6:30Speaker 10: there's the identity erosion, where you police yourself constantly. When
- 6:34Speaker 10: you monitor and adjustin perform day after day, year after year,
- 6:37Speaker 10: you start to lose touch with who you actually are.
- 6:40Speaker 9: You internalize the code switch. It stops being something you
- 6:44Speaker 9: do and.
- 6:44Speaker 10: Starts being who you are, or verse, You forget that
- 6:48Speaker 10: there was a version of you that didn't have to perform.
- 6:51Speaker 9: You lose the thread back to yourself. Third, there's the exhaustion.
- 6:58Speaker 9: This isn't just tiring, it's depleting. It's a kind of
- 7:00Speaker 9: exhaustion that doesn't go away with a good night's sleep
- 7:03Speaker 9: or a vacation, because it's not physical fatigue. It's the
- 7:07Speaker 9: exhaustion of never fully being yourself, of always holding something back,
- 7:12Speaker 9: of living in a state of low grade vigilance. And fourth,
- 7:18Speaker 9: there's the loneliness. You can be surrounded by people, colleagues, clients,
- 7:23Speaker 9: even friends, and still feel profoundly unseen because they're not
- 7:28Speaker 9: seeing the real you. They're seeing the version of you
- 7:31Speaker 9: that you've constructed to be palatable, acceptable, safe, and that
- 7:35Speaker 9: version might be successful It might be l liked, it
- 7:38Speaker 9: might even be celebrated, but it's not you. Let me
- 7:41Speaker 9: tell you something personal. As a black woman, I've lived
- 7:45Speaker 9: this my entire career. I often don't meet people's expectations,
- 7:49Speaker 9: and I know that I can see it in their faces,
- 7:51Speaker 9: in the slight surprise when I speak, when I present,
- 7:54Speaker 9: when I challenge an assumption. But here's the thing. I
- 7:57Speaker 9: don't just meet their expectations, exceed them every single time.
- 8:05Speaker 5: Come on clear, I ain't gonna lie my ADHD I
- 8:09Speaker 5: wiped out long time ago.
- 8:10Speaker 2: It wasn't interested in what else.
- 8:15Speaker 5: I think she Jimmy Cluster, She's I love listening to
- 8:17Speaker 5: her and like that, but her videos is like seven
- 8:19Speaker 5: minutes long. I was like, all right, and again, I
- 8:22Speaker 5: think that's neuro divergenes. But I disagree. I got to
- 8:26Speaker 5: look this up.
- 8:28Speaker 3: I think code switching is a necessary tool to use
- 8:38Speaker 3: to be successful in the world. I think we all
- 8:42Speaker 3: do it. I think everybody does it. That's trying to
- 8:46Speaker 3: I don't want to say assimilate or trying to.
- 8:49Speaker 5: Work a room because you have natural biases.
- 8:54Speaker 3: People.
- 8:54Speaker 5: Everybody has natural biases, and I think that there's a
- 8:58Speaker 5: like a whiteboard that's safe. And when you try to
- 9:01Speaker 5: come in with too much color, with too much disk,
- 9:03Speaker 5: with too much that it kind of irritates.
- 9:06Speaker 3: It could just push off too many people racism exactly.
- 9:09Speaker 2: That's basically what you just said.
- 9:12Speaker 3: White board racism.
- 9:14Speaker 6: White board too much color asimilation or all of this
- 9:18Speaker 6: is racism.
- 9:19Speaker 3: I wasn't talking about race though, what were you talking?
- 9:22Speaker 5: Yeah, I was talking about too much personality, anything that
- 9:28Speaker 5: would shape the system or irritate. If I'm walking into
- 9:32Speaker 5: a person a boardroom, I'm not just gonna go in
- 9:35Speaker 5: there like like this. I'm not just gonna go in
- 9:38Speaker 5: there baseball cap whatever whatever. I'm not because that's already
- 9:41Speaker 5: going to give them information about me that can lead
- 9:45Speaker 5: them to a different perception of what I might want
- 9:47Speaker 5: them to see.
- 9:48Speaker 3: I'm gonna go in there with a suit.
- 9:49Speaker 2: That's going to go dressing.
- 9:51Speaker 6: The part right you're talking about when you go in
- 9:54Speaker 6: there a certain way versus how you speak with us.
- 9:58Speaker 6: That's cold switching what you wore. It's not close switching
- 10:01Speaker 6: because you wouldn't go to a go in a boardroom
- 10:02Speaker 6: with that.
- 10:03Speaker 2: That's ridiculous, is it?
- 10:05Speaker 5: Okay? I might be wrong, but I mean just that
- 10:08Speaker 5: part portion it might be.
- 10:09Speaker 2: I agree with.
- 10:10Speaker 4: Tal about colde switching. I don't think there's anything wrong
- 10:13Speaker 4: with it. Like I'm authentically different people. I don't know
- 10:17Speaker 4: if it's just some Gemini should or not, but I
- 10:19Speaker 4: feel like other people could relate that, maybe not be
- 10:21Speaker 4: Gemini was like, I'm my authentic self in every environment,
- 10:26Speaker 4: even though I show up differently and speak differently, as
- 10:30Speaker 4: long as you're not like putting on like for example,
- 10:33Speaker 4: where I'm most comfortable is either with my immediate family
- 10:38Speaker 4: or with my close circle of friends. That's why I'm
- 10:41Speaker 4: most comfortable. That's where I'm most myself, relaxed, jokes, care free.
- 10:47Speaker 4: But I don't speak the same way in those two environments.
- 10:49Speaker 4: I don't even curse around my parents, you know what
- 10:50Speaker 4: I mean. But I'm very authentically myself, and I'm authentically
- 10:54Speaker 4: myself around my friends, my close group of friends. And
- 10:57Speaker 4: then there's other versions where you know, you might be
- 11:03Speaker 4: in boardrooms or political discussions and stuff, and you gotta
- 11:07Speaker 4: speak a little bit differently. And then it starts to
- 11:10Speaker 4: total line of I understand where she's getting at. But
- 11:13Speaker 4: for me, I think as long as you authentic, I
- 11:15Speaker 4: think it's kind of good to have different versions of yourself.
- 11:20Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 11:20Speaker 6: Yeah, I agree, it is good to have different versions
- 11:25Speaker 6: of it. I mean, if I'm with my friends, I'm
- 11:27Speaker 6: not going to speak the same way. I don't have
- 11:29Speaker 6: the same comfortability, and I shouldn't with coworkers because you're
- 11:32Speaker 6: not my friend.
- 11:33Speaker 2: But in the video, she was more so talking.
- 11:36Speaker 6: About doing it so much that you change who you
- 11:39Speaker 6: are overall, not necessarily that code switch is a bad thing.
- 11:43Speaker 6: She was saying that we is so ingrained in you
- 11:45Speaker 6: that you lose who you are altogether, like you're acting.
- 11:48Speaker 6: You're walking around acting as the person you code switch
- 11:50Speaker 6: to and forgot who you were.
- 11:52Speaker 3: That's the example of that.
- 11:55Speaker 6: So, say a seventeen year old black girl from Saint
- 11:59Speaker 6: Louis goes to a PWI and that's all she's around.
- 12:04Speaker 6: She's never around her peers at all, and she's been
- 12:07Speaker 6: so used to assimilating and straightening her hair out to
- 12:10Speaker 6: look like them and look and do whatever you might
- 12:13Speaker 6: lose her Saint Louis accent. And then by the time
- 12:16Speaker 6: she graduates, Saint Louis is gone. You don't even know
- 12:18Speaker 6: she from Saint Louis because she assimilated in Coastwitch so
- 12:20Speaker 6: much that the Saint Louis is out of her. That's
- 12:23Speaker 6: what she's saying in the video, not like, Okay, I
- 12:26Speaker 6: went to school down south, I'm still Philly, like you
- 12:29Speaker 6: could still hear it, see it and everything like nothing
- 12:32Speaker 6: I could pick up and customs from somebody else.
- 12:35Speaker 2: That doesn't make now I'm that, you know what I'm saying.
- 12:38Speaker 6: So I feel like in the video she was speaking
- 12:40Speaker 6: more so into losing yourself in that and not necessarily
- 12:43Speaker 6: like needing the ability to do it, like we have
- 12:46Speaker 6: to do it. I mean that we have to navigate
- 12:47Speaker 6: the world to a point to do it. I mean
- 12:49Speaker 6: it's unfortunate, but yeah.
- 12:58Speaker 4: What do you think that's.
- 13:00Speaker 6: I just looked at looking at me, h colde Switching
- 13:07Speaker 6: is exhausting, dowitch frequently all the time, and it's exhausting.
- 13:16Speaker 6: It's it's it's a very exhausting and a daunting thing
- 13:19Speaker 6: to have to do. You also have to when you're
- 13:23Speaker 6: thinking about biases specifically, you have to think about all
- 13:27Speaker 6: facets of how you show up in a space, like
- 13:31Speaker 6: I am a dark skinned girl from Brooklyn, like I
- 13:35Speaker 6: naturally am very direct and in some spaces or in
- 13:39Speaker 6: some words, people will say that I'm aggressive, but I'm very,
- 13:42Speaker 6: very very direct, Like I just I don't tolte the line.
- 13:46Speaker 6: I don't shy away from tough conversations in tough situations,
- 13:50Speaker 6: and that rubs people the wrong way, especially when you
- 13:54Speaker 6: are in professional environments and you're surrounded by so many
- 13:57Speaker 6: different people. Like I have a very amazing is a
- 14:00Speaker 6: a mentor and coach that kind of held me to
- 14:04Speaker 6: task for my code twitch in one day because I
- 14:06Speaker 6: was in a meeting and I had to write somebody
- 14:09Speaker 6: up and she was there for support and there to
- 14:14Speaker 6: kind of like monitor the way that I did it,
- 14:16Speaker 6: and she said, what is that voice and who is
- 14:19Speaker 6: that person that was just sitting here? And I was
- 14:21Speaker 6: just like, I know what I came here to do,
- 14:25Speaker 6: and for me to use my normal voice in normal cadence,
- 14:29Speaker 6: I don't want somebody to feel even worse about the
- 14:31Speaker 6: fact that I'm about that this is a disciplinary conversation.
- 14:35Speaker 2: So I tried to.
- 14:35Speaker 6: Lighten the load by lightening the way that I delivered
- 14:39Speaker 6: the information. And she was just like, yeah, no, I
- 14:42Speaker 6: never want you to use that voice again, and I
- 14:43Speaker 6: don't want you to do that again. Like you are
- 14:46Speaker 6: you and you're in the position that you're in because
- 14:48Speaker 6: this is the position that you worked hard for. You
- 14:50Speaker 6: deserve to be here, and you don't need to do that.
- 14:53Speaker 6: But then also yet same directness got me in trouble
- 14:57Speaker 6: with some people just like I don't. I consistently have
- 15:02Speaker 6: to tote the line, and it is exhausting, and you
- 15:05Speaker 6: can lose yourself, and you can be sitting and having
- 15:08Speaker 6: a conversation and one different person walk in and then
- 15:11Speaker 6: you have to change your tone or change the way
- 15:13Speaker 6: that you're delivering information in a quick second because somebody
- 15:18Speaker 6: with a certain title or certain whatever just walked in
- 15:21Speaker 6: the room.
- 15:21Speaker 2: It's it's a very exhausting thing to do.
- 15:24Speaker 6: And I can't wait until I'm free from being able
- 15:27Speaker 6: to have to code switch in certain environments, when I
- 15:29Speaker 6: can just say what I have to say and it
- 15:31Speaker 6: just be what it is. Because if I was a
- 15:33Speaker 6: white man, white men don't cod switch, period like full stop.
- 15:40Speaker 6: So why do we white men do not? Can white
- 15:44Speaker 6: men do not code switch?
- 15:46Speaker 3: That's not true, they have to.
- 15:48Speaker 4: I know some fat boy white boys that's crazy at
- 15:51Speaker 4: the bar, but at work they are very poli.
- 15:55Speaker 6: That's not how they are in a room is they
- 15:58Speaker 6: don't have to change whoever came.
- 16:00Speaker 2: They don't have to change.
- 16:01Speaker 6: They don't have the boys in a certain way. They
- 16:04Speaker 6: don't have to not look people directly in their eyes.
- 16:06Speaker 2: They don't.
- 16:07Speaker 6: There's the white boys do not code switch. They don't,
- 16:10Speaker 6: even the ones at at at the lowest levels, they don't.
- 16:14Speaker 6: They come in literally authentically themselves. They don't change their
- 16:18Speaker 6: voices and their cadences and the way that they do think,
- 16:21Speaker 6: they speak, the way that they speak, Like if you
- 16:24Speaker 6: are a white man from the South, you don't turn
- 16:26Speaker 6: over your Southern accent when you're in a boy like
- 16:28Speaker 6: you're a Southerner.
- 16:30Speaker 5: If you a white boy and you find yourself around
- 16:32Speaker 5: a bunch of black people, you don't think you think
- 16:34Speaker 5: that you act the same way you act around your
- 16:36Speaker 5: white people. And when you go to Grandma's house for
- 16:38Speaker 5: Thanksgiving with your black wife, you think you act the
- 16:41Speaker 5: same way.
- 16:43Speaker 2: I don't know how to answer that question.
- 16:45Speaker 6: They're not necessarily a white person that's quote unquote code
- 16:49Speaker 6: switching in an all black environment.
- 16:50Speaker 2: They're not doing it for survival.
- 16:52Speaker 6: They're doing it because they are. They're not doing it
- 16:57Speaker 6: for survival because we don't have the means to take
- 16:59Speaker 6: anything away from them. In that moment, Like when we're
- 17:01Speaker 6: doing it at work, it's because we want to keep
- 17:03Speaker 6: our position or status.
- 17:06Speaker 2: They don't. They're not doing it because of that.
- 17:07Speaker 6: If a lot of times a white person will come
- 17:09Speaker 6: around my friend group and they're they're using slang terminology
- 17:12Speaker 6: as a cold switch as opposed to what they would say,
- 17:14Speaker 6: you're trying to fit there exactly like you're trying to
- 17:16Speaker 6: fit in with us versus you cod switching because you're
- 17:20Speaker 6: going to gain something by doing You're not gaining anything
- 17:23Speaker 6: by as a white person cold switching to a black
- 17:25Speaker 6: person because we don't have anything over you.
- 17:28Speaker 3: Yeah, it's I think it's social versus professional.
- 17:30Speaker 7: I think black people have to co switch professionally and
- 17:32Speaker 7: white people co switch socially.
- 17:35Speaker 4: So I need a little bit more understanding of what
- 17:38Speaker 4: is and what isn't code switch.
- 17:40Speaker 5: Yet, Because even when she was like, oh, the person
- 17:43Speaker 5: straightening out their hair, to me, that's the same as
- 17:45Speaker 5: showing up in a certain.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Outfit or whatever. But to you that's different.
- 17:49Speaker 2: So that because as a black woman, navigating.
- 17:53Speaker 6: Hair is a part of the cold switch, Like there's
- 17:55Speaker 6: literally there was literally laws in place where it was
- 17:57Speaker 6: illegal to wear our hair out. So even how you
- 18:00Speaker 6: walk into a room as a black woman, Like if
- 18:02Speaker 6: you could walk down the street with natural, curly hair
- 18:04Speaker 6: and somebody will say, you're here, why you're hair not done?
- 18:07Speaker 2: But if it's straight, it's done.
- 18:10Speaker 6: Even though my natural hair growing out of my hair
- 18:12Speaker 6: here curly is it is done?
- 18:14Speaker 2: You know it is what I how I did it,
- 18:16Speaker 2: how I tamed it. It's done.
- 18:18Speaker 6: But if you walk into a place that quote unquote
- 18:22Speaker 6: doesn't think that that's a standard of beauty, which we
- 18:24Speaker 6: know what America thinks the standard of beauty is, then
- 18:27Speaker 6: that's part of the code switch.
- 18:29Speaker 2: You're going to interview.
- 18:31Speaker 6: A woman could walk around with an afro for sea afro.
- 18:35Speaker 6: She want a certain job, she'll slick her hair in
- 18:37Speaker 6: a bun, she'll press her hair out for that job.
- 18:40Speaker 6: Trust me, that's a question.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:43Speaker 6: So code switching is the practice of alternating between two
- 18:46Speaker 6: or more languages, dialects, or communication styles within the same conversation.
- 18:51Speaker 6: People typically do this to fit in and build rapport
- 18:55Speaker 6: or adapt to professional expectations.
- 18:57Speaker 3: So in that and that's why I said it's important.
- 19:00Speaker 4: I think it's fine. So y'all have a seeing the
- 19:02Speaker 4: Keen Pill skit where they played President Obama and you
- 19:06Speaker 4: know he.
- 19:06Speaker 6: Got out, Yes, but that is a that is expectation.
- 19:13Speaker 4: That's a great example of it's okay. Like when I
- 19:17Speaker 4: walk into a room, depending on who's in their room,
- 19:19Speaker 4: the way I greet people is different. It might be
- 19:22Speaker 4: or it might be hey, how you doing, or it
- 19:24Speaker 4: might be hey, what's up?
- 19:25Speaker 7: Or like you know that's crazy, Hey, what's that's crazy?
- 19:33Speaker 4: So I don't think that's coach to just understand your environment.
- 19:37Speaker 4: I feel like, especially for what I do for a living,
- 19:39Speaker 4: that's part. I got to size people up. I'm going
- 19:41Speaker 4: to different rooms. I meet with kids, sometimes meet with adults,
- 19:44Speaker 4: white people, old people, young people, niggas, you know what
- 19:48Speaker 4: I mean. It's a different way you talk to everybody.
- 19:50Speaker 4: I have a question that's interesting. This video was from
- 19:55Speaker 4: a young older woman named Jimmy Clark. She was a
- 19:57Speaker 4: black woman, right. The women in the room.
- 20:03Speaker 5: Are genuinely like lined up with her on this and
- 20:07Speaker 5: how it affects the way that they present and their feelings.
- 20:12Speaker 5: And Dodd said white men don't have to do it.
- 20:17Speaker 5: The men in the room are like, yeah, I don't.
- 20:19Speaker 3: See no problem with it. You know, it is what
- 20:21Speaker 3: it is. It's a part of the game. I didn't
- 20:23Speaker 3: say that.
- 20:25Speaker 7: Okay, I don't want to be on agreeing with y'all.
- 20:31Speaker 3: A part of that. Sorry.
- 20:33Speaker 5: Can I just finish my point before you go line
- 20:36Speaker 5: up with the ladies today?
- 20:38Speaker 3: Can I just get this out you mind?
- 20:43Speaker 5: Is it more of a thing that is harmful to women?
- 20:48Speaker 5: Could it be a thing that is more harmful to women,
- 20:51Speaker 5: specifically Black women than black men. Do you think that
- 20:57Speaker 5: that's a thing and it might not be, It might
- 21:00Speaker 5: not be.
- 21:00Speaker 2: I don't know. Yesterday, what do you think.
- 21:03Speaker 3: You asked this?
- 21:04Speaker 7: You said your last point was you said, is code
- 21:06Speaker 7: switching more detrimental to black women than black men?
- 21:09Speaker 3: Yes? That was the point I mean I was asking. Hmm, Yes,
- 21:17Speaker 3: I would say so.
- 21:18Speaker 7: I would say that black women have to code switch
- 21:21Speaker 7: more because of this. A lot of stuff that Dodge
- 21:23Speaker 7: said about the the skin, the hair, the look, body type, religion,
- 21:33Speaker 7: where you're from. And I feel like men like some
- 21:36Speaker 7: of those things as far, like the beauty aspect and
- 21:38Speaker 7: some of the hair stuff. I know there's a thing
- 21:40Speaker 7: with like the locks and stuff, but it's less so
- 21:42Speaker 7: with men. So I think women have more of an
- 21:45Speaker 7: issue with it because it's that many more things that
- 21:48Speaker 7: they have to kind of adjust or tweak or maybe
- 21:52Speaker 7: tamp down on. As as with men, it's kind of like,
- 21:55Speaker 7: you know, you can kind of just wake up those
- 21:58Speaker 7: warning and face you know, walk right into the me
- 22:00Speaker 7: and you know th shirt on. As to where women
- 22:03Speaker 7: have to be a little bit more calculated in their
- 22:07Speaker 7: thought process.
- 22:08Speaker 4: So for me, like I said, I work with different
- 22:11Speaker 4: people from different ages. If I'm walking to a room
- 22:16Speaker 4: and there's like white kids that are like eight years
- 22:19Speaker 4: old and me being a six' five black man From
- 22:23Speaker 4: brooklyn with, locks dressed, casually the WAY i, am the
- 22:28Speaker 4: WAY i, Speak i'm very cognizant of. That AND i
- 22:31Speaker 4: feel Like i'm not saying that a black woman wouldn't
- 22:34Speaker 4: have the same, issues BUT i wouldn't say that hers
- 22:37Speaker 4: is a little bit more. APPARENT i feel like black
- 22:39Speaker 4: men physically are the most scared of and often have
- 22:44Speaker 4: to tone themselves down in. Rooms and this is just
- 22:47Speaker 4: around the. World LIKE i THINK i mentioned this once
- 22:50Speaker 4: on this podcast, Before i've been in places all across
- 22:54Speaker 4: the across the world where there's no black people, there
- 22:58Speaker 4: but the security guard is a black. Man security guard
- 23:01Speaker 4: is always a black man because he's got the presence
- 23:04Speaker 4: you know WHAT i. Mean people are scared of big black,
- 23:06Speaker 4: Men SO i feel like a big black man pause
- 23:11Speaker 4: has to code switch in certain situations Because i'm looking,
- 23:23Speaker 4: NOW i don't do. That so you, KNOW i hate
- 23:26Speaker 4: when we compare.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Struggles, YEAH i think it's.
- 23:28Speaker 4: EQUAL i, mean but, YEAH i would say.
- 23:30Speaker 2: We equally struggle on different.
- 23:32Speaker 6: SCALES i, MEAN i can't speak how it is to
- 23:34Speaker 6: navigate as a black, man BUT i just know as
- 23:36Speaker 6: a black, woman we're already perceived as, angry like any
- 23:41Speaker 6: type of emotion we. Show we could literally be happy
- 23:43Speaker 6: and just sitting chill and somebody's, like what's wrong with?
- 23:46Speaker 6: You it's like, Nothing like why CAN'T i just have
- 23:49Speaker 6: a straight, Face LIKE i have to perform for you
- 23:51Speaker 6: to make you feel comfortable in my. Presence Or i'm
- 23:54Speaker 6: angry and IF i speak out of, Something, oh look at,
- 23:56Speaker 6: her she's getting.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Mad she's, angry like the angry black woman that whole.
- 23:59Speaker 6: Trope so it's like y'all have to deal with the
- 24:01Speaker 6: physicality of, it and we have to deal with like
- 24:03Speaker 6: the emotional you're already like deemed angry before you even.
- 24:07Speaker 6: SPEAK i have a, question you, said as a six
- 24:20Speaker 6: five black, man when you walk in the room with
- 24:22Speaker 6: like little white, kids like you have to like kind
- 24:24Speaker 6: of tone it down on H do you do the
- 24:28Speaker 6: same thing with black?
- 24:29Speaker 2: Kids, yeah BECAUSE i do it with kids, period kids in.
- 24:32Speaker 4: General.
- 24:32Speaker 6: Absolutely, okay that was just a question because like if
- 24:35Speaker 6: it's IF i walk into an elementary school with little,
- 24:37Speaker 6: kids like every, LIKE i am a completely like, yeah
- 24:40Speaker 6: that is my favorite type Of i'm a different person
- 24:45Speaker 6: with little, kids AND i am with big, kids AND
- 24:47Speaker 6: i am with middle school kids like.
- 24:49Speaker 2: It like.
- 24:49Speaker 6: It that is the type of code switching THAT i
- 24:52Speaker 6: like because it's about the comfort of children versus the
- 24:57Speaker 6: biases of.
- 24:58Speaker 2: ADULTS i see what you that's trutely sitting here.
- 25:10Speaker 5: Going over my topic. List there's a young lady On reil's.

- 32:15Speaker 6: FAULT i, said we don't like when we don't she
- 32:19Speaker 6: does that, like so then it's her.
- 32:20Speaker 4: Fault why does he got to pay for?

- 33:14Speaker 4: up to, ladies not, either but we're talking, hypothetically.
- 33:18Speaker 6: Right it's niggas that do they want to take probably
- 33:22Speaker 6: right or they want a predecene the they you out

- 33:29Speaker 6: certain men in this world that are actually really disgusting
- 33:32Speaker 6: and they will really pop up on their girl type,
- 33:35Speaker 6: shit like some real controlling ship and they will pop.
- 33:37Speaker 6: Up but if you decide that you want to pop,
- 33:39Speaker 6: up you want some ike turner, ship, nigga you better spend.
- 33:41Speaker 2: Some bread and then take her. Home get the fuck
- 33:44Speaker 2: out of your ruining the.
- 33:45Speaker 4: Visus it sounds like it's a two way disgusting street
- 33:48Speaker 4: because the girl that is, okay not even, okay but

- 1:04:38Speaker 7: doing their. Job why AM i helping them do their?
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: Job SO i think that the problem in this video
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: is he broad in the definition of, snitching like, said
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: all of that ship ain't. Snitching all of that ship
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: he talking. About so you're just saying you don't want
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: to relate with anything that has to do with law.
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: Enforcement you don't want to give them any information regarded
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: that's not the same the. Snitching like To talas points
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: snitching as if we're doing. Crimes we are in the
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: criminal life. Together And i'm not going to take no
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: responsibility for What i'm. Doing that's different than if you're a.
- 1:05:09Speaker 6: Civilian because last week WHEN i Said i'm a civilian
- 1:05:12Speaker 6: and y'all all, said so you?
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: Snitching so you?
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: Snitching oh, yeah MAYBE i? Did y'all?

- 1:05:23Speaker 6: y'all so you're gonna. Snitch so you're gonna. Snitch so
- 1:05:25Speaker 6: why was it?
- 1:05:25Speaker 5: DIFFERENT i actually never said. THAT i, said you're telling
- 1:05:29Speaker 5: on your best, friends.
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: And then it's.
- 1:05:32Speaker 5: Police it's not about telling the. Police, NO i never said.
- 1:05:35Speaker 5: That IF i, did then Ship i'm absolutely. Wrong IF
- 1:05:38Speaker 5: i said, THAT i, believe maybe not believe you're telling
- 1:05:42Speaker 5: on your best.
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: Friend you're calling the, HOTLINE i got some info for your,
- 1:05:46Speaker 4: Game like were you volunteering? Information?
- 1:05:50Speaker 6: Like the funny thing is the funniest thing is ALL
- 1:05:56Speaker 6: i said was why would you put me in that?
- 1:05:59Speaker 6: Position you forced me to be in a position WHEN
- 1:06:02Speaker 6: i have to do. SOMETHING i, SAID i said right
- 1:06:05Speaker 6: there yesterday called me a.
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: Snitch you called me a. Snitch y'all did call it, back? Y'all?
- 1:06:12Speaker 6: All it was it was a it was a brigade of,
- 1:06:15Speaker 6: snitch and then it was like, snitching and.
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: THEN i said the. Clippers there after.
- 1:06:23Speaker 6: Y'all, y'all y'all berated snitching into, me AND i didn't
- 1:06:25Speaker 6: even say WHAT i would. Do ALL i said, was
- 1:06:28Speaker 6: you are putting me in a position THAT i have
- 1:06:30Speaker 6: to do. Something and then it was just like, Boom
- 1:06:33Speaker 6: so you snitching on your. Friend y'all just attacked me
- 1:06:35Speaker 6: with snitching to the point THAT i, said, yeah.
- 1:06:39Speaker 5: YEAH i, said you're telling on Your my point is
- 1:06:42Speaker 5: more me telling on my best. Friend it's about. Loyalty
- 1:06:46Speaker 5: it's about my best friend coming to me with something
- 1:06:48Speaker 5: heavy on.
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: Their heart.
- 1:06:52Speaker 5: And THEN i take it and, say, well don't put
- 1:06:54Speaker 5: that on, me and then call the police and lock them,
- 1:06:57Speaker 5: up and they go to.
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: This beyond heavy on it. That let me tell your,
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: mom is it you're talking about?
- 1:07:04Speaker 6: Loyalty you're not loyal to me that you can put
- 1:07:06Speaker 6: me in a position like, that because now you're doing
- 1:07:08Speaker 6: something that could ruin my. Life you ain't care about.
- 1:07:09Speaker 6: Me why you ain't just keep it to, yourself but
- 1:07:11Speaker 6: turn yourself into. Something keep it to.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: Yourself wait are?
- 1:07:17Speaker 5: You because BECAUSE i don't know if y'all, understand MAYBE
- 1:07:19Speaker 5: i don't have the you're you was A. Ceo MAYBE
- 1:07:23Speaker 5: i don't understand the court the justice. System, right you're telling.
- 1:07:26Speaker 5: Me IF i knew that you hit somebody with a
- 1:07:28Speaker 5: car AND i don't, Tell i'm going to. Jail, yes
- 1:07:32Speaker 5: you've seen, this That's i'm going to.
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: Jail, yes that's not.
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: True for a. Murder.
- 1:07:38Speaker 6: Okay IF i know about a murder AND i don't
- 1:07:41Speaker 6: tell the, authorities.
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: Murder it's not you, said somebody got hitting, somebody it's not.
- 1:07:47Speaker 5: Murder murder is actually you meant to kill. Somebody. Murder murder,
- 1:07:59Speaker 5: is but once you drive off and by the, way the,
- 1:08:03Speaker 5: murder she's cool with the intentional, MURDER i.
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: SAID i, Said i'm cool with certain types of what it.
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: Was thank.
- 1:08:09Speaker 6: YOU i am, too thank, You because if it was
- 1:08:12Speaker 6: his self defense or something like, that then, yeah.
- 1:08:14Speaker 5: Real, quick before we already passed, out right real, quick
- 1:08:18Speaker 5: see the, problem real.
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: Quick there's a rapper that took his baby mom of the.
- 1:08:23Speaker 5: Court he got full custody of the, child the, baby the,
- 1:08:27Speaker 5: baby the baby mom AND i don't, know somebody else
- 1:08:32Speaker 5: show up in the middle of the night and try
- 1:08:34Speaker 5: he like left his kids in the car for a.
- 1:08:37Speaker 5: Second the rapper got. OUT i guess he went to
- 1:08:40Speaker 5: THE atm to get some. Money the baby mom pulls,
- 1:08:44Speaker 5: up opens the, car tries to take the. Baby they
- 1:08:48Speaker 5: get into a whole. Scuffle him and whoever else was
- 1:08:50Speaker 5: in the car getting to a whole. Scuffle while the
- 1:08:52Speaker 5: baby mom is trying to put the the baby in the,
- 1:08:55Speaker 5: car he stops.
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: It people come grab the, baby whatever.
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: Whatever.
- 1:09:00Speaker 5: Leave the baby mother gets arrested for kidnapping and burglary
- 1:09:05Speaker 5: as well for opening the car whatever it may. Be
- 1:09:09Speaker 5: he's online saying. This the rapper is online saying.
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: Please, open please open right one more.
- 1:09:21Speaker 20: Time i'm not allowing y'all waiting on me to make a.
- 1:09:28Speaker 20: STATEMENT i just got a call from The District attern's.
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: Office.
- 1:09:32Speaker 20: Man they asked me to come, in sit down and
- 1:09:36Speaker 20: give him a detailed statement of everything that.
- 1:09:38Speaker 3: HAPPENED i hung up the phone and call my.
- 1:09:41Speaker 21: People tell Them i'm not going down there making no
- 1:09:45Speaker 21: statements and shit like. That my family, say if you
- 1:09:49Speaker 21: don't go down there and makes statements to make sure
- 1:09:52Speaker 21: your children are, safe they ain't fucking with me no.
- 1:09:54Speaker 21: More but IF i go down, there they make a,
- 1:09:59Speaker 21: Statement i'm a. Rat the reason they needed me to
- 1:10:07Speaker 21: make a statement.
- 1:10:08Speaker 22: Is because they had to look into the paperwork as
- 1:10:11Speaker 22: far as custody consigns to say that she categorized for
- 1:10:14Speaker 22: kidnapping and due to the fact that she lost custody
- 1:10:17Speaker 22: AND i have full, custody it's.
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: Kidnapping i'm just.
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: So that's where it. Saw she does the whole video
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: and that was.
- 1:10:27Speaker 4: Smart but he just gave all the information without. Written
- 1:10:32Speaker 4: but he basically is writing because you're on the, internet
- 1:10:34Speaker 4: they'd be using the information in.
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: Court that is, right.
- 1:10:37Speaker 4: Said what he needed to say already without to the
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: DA sa dry. Station, yeah, yeah that's what it.
- 1:10:47Speaker 6: Is that's, Like, yeah he indirectly give up because you
- 1:10:50Speaker 6: could have he could have just said. Nothing he's not
- 1:10:52Speaker 6: obligated to tell the scenario to the, internet but he
- 1:10:56Speaker 6: chose to say certain details that we wouldn't have known
- 1:10:58Speaker 6: unless he said it so without.
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: The.
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: Cops, no, well my bugget what AM i?
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: Think it's?
- 1:11:08Speaker 15: Not?
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: This that is?
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: Nuts like, Bro, LIKE i DON'T i don't even know
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: what the argument.
- 1:11:12Speaker 4: Is, wait would you would?
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: You would you lock your big mother for?
- 1:11:16Speaker 4: That? No SO i don't understand why his family would be,
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: Like i'm cutting you off if you don't go to
- 1:11:22Speaker 4: the D like even if she does go to, jail
- 1:11:25Speaker 4: she's going to get out at some, Point, like all,
- 1:11:28Speaker 4: right she's a fucked up. Parent you got full, custody
- 1:11:31Speaker 4: get a restraining on it and all. That she don't
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: got to go to, Jail LIKE i don't have to
- 1:11:35Speaker 4: be the one to send you to, Jail LIKE i
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: don't think That my family would be LIKE i can't
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: funk with you if you don't send your baby mom
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: to prison or. Jail feel that so and then obviously
- 1:11:49Speaker 4: these are short. Clips we don't know the full. Context but,
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: well he got full. Custody if she.
- 1:11:55Speaker 6: Already tried to abduct the, kids it wouldn't. Work she
- 1:11:57Speaker 6: already literally tried to take THE.
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: I was how long is she going to jail?
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: For like?
- 1:12:02Speaker 4: Whatever if she's really that fucked up that she's gonna
- 1:12:05Speaker 4: come out and do it, again she's.
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: Gonna get her maybe a little.
- 1:12:08Speaker 6: Bit but you don't know if for a court to
- 1:12:11Speaker 6: take the kids away from my, mom she had to
- 1:12:13Speaker 6: really be messed.
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: Up you are.
- 1:12:16Speaker 6: Really, custody, Right so it's something that the family know
- 1:12:21Speaker 6: that we don't know that's in that clip.
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: Trying to say that she should have been abused the,
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: child all of, That, like assuming she's going down, charges.
- 1:12:32Speaker 6: Are you trying to and you could have got you
- 1:12:35Speaker 6: could have killed me and the baby or. SOMETHING i don't.
- 1:12:37Speaker 6: Know you can have somebody try to and you say.
- 1:12:39Speaker 4: NO i, mean, Obviously i'm not thinking about how extreme
- 1:12:43Speaker 4: the situation could have. Been in my. Mind i'm not
- 1:12:47Speaker 4: picturing all the other mess that could be going. To
- 1:12:50Speaker 4: What i'm thinking is the mother of my. CHILDREN i
- 1:12:53Speaker 4: don't necessarily want to go, jail, prison they could avoid.
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: It rikers for. WOMEN i get.
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: IT i get it either, WAY i get.
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: It yes to, Jail i'm going down FOR i want to.
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: SODA i want to slice your.
- 1:13:09Speaker 6: Kill like if she could do, that she would get you.
- 1:13:11Speaker 6: Killed if she's gonna come abduct and.
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: Do all that she's and also.
- 1:13:18Speaker 6: Like she don't care about your your, safety order, Kids
- 1:13:20Speaker 6: so why DO i care if you go to jail or?
- 1:13:21Speaker 5: Not AND i had to fight this other nigga while
- 1:13:24Speaker 5: and you're literally, killed if.
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: Our kids could have got, killed you don't, Care so
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: why DO i? Care, jail don't. COLLECT i don't even.
- 1:13:32Speaker 4: Think about it like.

- 1:17:08Speaker 5: CHOICE i wasn't stopping her Right, like it is what
- 1:17:11Speaker 5: it is versus two niggas that live by a certain
- 1:17:14Speaker 5: code and then when you get caught up or when
- 1:17:16Speaker 5: shit go wrong for you go running the police help
- 1:17:18Speaker 5: save me or, yo give me less time to let niggas,
- 1:17:21Speaker 5: out to let me out and take.
- 1:17:23Speaker 4: Him now that those two complete, Different so back to
- 1:17:25Speaker 4: my original. Point it's technically not, snitching but it's part
- 1:17:29Speaker 4: of the. CODE i hear street nigga just not to
- 1:17:31Speaker 4: talk to the. Cops don't talk TO da under any.

- 1:17:40Speaker 4: if you're, police no police content can't give them. Information
- 1:17:47Speaker 4: so even if it's helpful from my, FAMILY i totally
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: agree this Is and that's where it's, conflicting because it's
- 1:17:52Speaker 4: gonna help me to me if.
- 1:17:53Speaker 5: It doesn't have nothing to do with the crimes That i'm,
- 1:17:55Speaker 5: Creating i'm doing like serial? Killer what or handle it right?
- 1:18:00Speaker 5: Right or it's my?

- 1:18:11Speaker 2: All for.
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: Sure for, sure it has to be some type of.
- 1:18:13Speaker 6: There has to be a cap on, morality like what
- 1:18:16Speaker 6: where's the line? When where are you really willing to
- 1:18:19Speaker 6: draw the? Line And i'm really willing to draw the
- 1:18:22Speaker 6: line when my freedom is imposed because of your. Stupidity,
