- 0:11Let's go to the book of 1st Samuel together in chapter 25.
- 0:22And where we concluded last week, was in verse 13.
- 0:24So let's begin in verse 14. It's good to see you with your
- 0:34Bibles today. Let's pray.
- 0:39Lord, this is your holy word. This is the truth.
- 0:44This is your voice. This is breathed out by you.
- 0:49What, we recognize us as the sufficient inerrant.
- 0:55Word of God, we tremble before it Lord, help us realize we are
- 1:00not reading a story for moral principles.
- 1:05Help us realize that we are not just reading a piece of History.
- 1:08Lord, this word has been given for Archer.
- 1:12Meaning for our correcting, our reproof our comfort.
- 1:19Our transformation Lord. We need the empowerment of the
- 1:22Holy Spirit to rest upon the ministry of the word.
- 1:25Tonight, we've come to Feast at your table and so Lord, may we
- 1:30leave here full, may we leave here with a heart that is
- 1:33softened towards you, your will. Your purposes for our lives.
- 1:40We surrender. This Bible study asking that you
- 1:42would take full control Lord filter every word man's opinion.
- 1:48Lord, may it fall to the ground. May not even reach.
- 1:51Our ears Olga may not even come out of this vessel.
- 1:55Maybe your word alone, your mind.
- 1:59Your will in Jesus name we pray. Amen.
- 2:05At this point of our study. David is prepared to do
- 2:09something that we never thought David would do.
- 2:13David this man who has entrusted himself to God.
- 2:15And so many ways especially with how he's been treated by King,
- 2:19Saul is now about to take Vengeance for the harm that he
- 2:24had experienced from another up to this point, he is trusted God
- 2:28to deal with Saul. But for some reason, when it
- 2:31came to the insults of nabal, he thought to himself that it would
- 2:35be better if he were to execute Revenge.
- 2:40And this was painful obviously for him because he had given
- 2:43good, he had shared good, he had provided good table and he
- 2:46experienced nothing but evil and wickedness from this man who was
- 2:51supposed to be his brother a man from his own tribe.
- 2:53And before we even read another verse we can we can come to this
- 2:58conclusion up to this point of this chapter that yet again we
- 3:02were given another example about a man of God one of the most
- 3:06devoted and Sanctified Servants of God and an Kingdom is but a
- 3:12man's still. And even the best of God's men,
- 3:15God's woman are susceptible to Temptation and succumbing to the
- 3:19Flesh. And so may we never put too much
- 3:22hope in man, may we never worship man.
- 3:26Rely too much on, man. The only one that will never
- 3:29fail. Us is the one that died for us.
- 3:32Others will fail, others will have shortcomings.
- 3:35It's no excuse for us to not pursue Holiness but it is an
- 3:39insight to Remind us that we are able to fall and fail,
- 3:45therefore, we need him all the more.
- 3:46If a man, like, David can fails, surely you?
- 3:48And I can fail, And there's much to learn in the remaining of
- 3:52this chapter. Look how many verses are left in
- 3:54that chapter. So much to learn from this King
- 3:58and training but not just from David, we are now going to learn
- 4:01so much from Another Hero, an unsung hero by the way.
- 4:07Unfortunately, Abigail was not praised in all of Israel through
- 4:11song like David was. But nevertheless, she was still
- 4:15someone to be praised. She is going to save the day.
- 4:21She is going to through her intervention provide much much,
- 4:25much instruction for you. And I, I mean, look again at
- 4:28this chapter and consider this, that most of this content is
- 4:32given for and is reserved for her speech toward David.
- 4:39Not into versus not in one verse.
- 4:41But in many, many words and many, many arguments, surely God
- 4:46wants to teach us something through this.
- 4:48Man named Abigail. And that's what we're going to
- 4:52see in this chapter up to this point.
- 4:56Look at verse 3. All we know about this woman was
- 4:59as she was a wife of a fool and that she was Discerning and
- 5:03beautiful. She was a woman of good
- 5:06understanding. She was a woman who had outer
- 5:08beauty, but more importantly, inner beauty and we are going to
- 5:11see how that's going to flesh out.
- 5:13We're going to see these qualities come to life.
- 5:15But interestingly enough what we're going to see is the
- 5:18discernment of the woman behind lighted, way more than her
- 5:23appearance. In fact, her appearance isn't
- 5:25mentioned again, goes to show what God values, we goes to show
- 5:28what we should be learning from and as a people who are called
- 5:33by our God to be wise and Discerning and prudent and
- 5:38cautious. We are going to see some marks
- 5:41of a wise individual. Of a servant of God.
- 5:46What was them actually? Looks like when it's when it's
- 5:48manifested and so the main point of this message of this Bible
- 5:53study is going to be marks of wisdom.
- 5:58This chapter is so rich that you can have two Bibles as you.
- 6:04Have many Bible studies on it but two themes.
- 6:06There is so much of the Gospel in this chapter so much of the
- 6:10Gospel. So many parallels to gospel
- 6:12experience gospel truth. And then there's also the
- 6:15Practical implications of what it means to live out as a person
- 6:19who cherishes and pursues and apply something that the Bible
- 6:24values and that is wisdom. Not knowledge.
- 6:27Wisdom knowledge is information. Wisdom is what you do with the
- 6:32data that you receive throughout your life.
- 6:36And as you hear these different points, can I challenge you to
- 6:39do something? Can we all do this together?
- 6:42We're going to hear one point after the other through
- 6:44Abigail's encounter with David and let's ask ourselves.
- 6:46Lord, is this true of me is this true?
- 6:49My life, if not, would you give me the wisdom?
- 6:52Would you give me the impartation necessary so that I
- 6:55can be an effective vessel For Your Glory?
- 6:58Because we will not be effective.
- 6:59If we do not have wisdom, we will do much harm to our
- 7:02testimony to the testimony of the gospel.
- 7:04And so, therefore, the great protection in this.
- 7:06Life As We navigate through it with all the events and
- 7:08surprises is to be a people who know how to treasure wisdom.
- 7:15It's quite amazing. How much of this tax is
- 7:16dedicated to Abigail. So let's begin in verse 14 and
- 7:21see how her life In This Moment can help us.
- 7:25The last scene that we have in our minds before we read verse
- 7:2714, is that David, with 400? Men are approaching the bowel
- 7:31and his his home with swords, 200 are left behind with the.
- 7:35Baggage 400 are Marching on towards this man ready to
- 7:39eradicate them from the face of the Earth.
- 7:42And so in verse 14 we read but one of the young men told
- 7:45Abigail Annabelle's wife behold Davidson Messengers out of the
- 7:49Wilderness to greet our master and he railed at them yet.
- 7:54The men were very Be good to us and we suffered no harm and we
- 7:58did not miss anything. When we were in the fields as
- 8:01long as we went with them, they were a wall to us both by night.
- 8:06And by day all the, while we were with them, keeping the
- 8:09Sheep. Now, therefore know this and
- 8:12consider what you should do for harm is determined against our
- 8:16master and against all his house and he has such a worthless man,
- 8:21that no one that one cannot speak to him.
- 8:25Him. The first thing that we learn
- 8:28about this woman, as we read this text is that one of the
- 8:30young servants, who observed and learn about nabela's words
- 8:35towards David, and what David, obviously had done for him and
- 8:38his Readiness to retaliate was that he approaches Abigail his
- 8:44Instinct. His reflexes reaction was go to
- 8:47this woman. And for good reason, Abigail
- 8:51obviously had a reputation and her reputation was this.
- 8:54She was able to provide worthwhile information advice.
- 9:00She was a source of guidance. And this says, something about
- 9:06her character, something about this woman that is important for
- 9:09us to understand about our own lives.
- 9:11She was a person who could solve problems and not one who fueled
- 9:15them. She was a peacemaker, not a
- 9:18troublemaker. She was someone that saw peace
- 9:22between relationships, the ultimate.
- 9:24And then she knew the best way to accomplish that end.
- 9:29And unfortunately that was not true of Nepal, and that's not
- 9:31true of many people. When a person is a peacemaker,
- 9:35Jesus says that they are blessed.
- 9:37Not only will they be blessed but they are a blessing and
- 9:41surely that is true for any Community.
- 9:43Any household, any group of friends, any Ministry, when you
- 9:47have people who strive for rest among Brothers, they are a
- 9:54treasure. Indeed, in fact, David himself
- 9:57recognized the That Abigail was look down at verse 33.
- 10:03Blessed. Be your discretion and blessed.
- 10:06Be you who have kept me this day, from blood guilt, and from
- 10:10working salvation, with my own hand, this woman was a blessing
- 10:16and it's a joy to know that you. And I can be a blessing to
- 10:19others that our presence that are words that are actions.
- 10:23Bring about Harmony and not havoc, and not chaos, and not
- 10:28disturbance, and not strife What was said of Abigail could not be
- 10:35said of so many people in the Bible, including Jobs, wife,
- 10:38have you realized that Satan had access to everything in jobs
- 10:42life he can destroy anything including his family.
- 10:45He destroyed jobs kids but he leaves Jobs wife on the scene
- 10:48I've ever thought about that. You know what that means?
- 10:54That Satan, with whatever cunning he had thought to
- 10:57himself. I could kill her but it would be
- 10:59more destructive for job of. I keep her alive.
- 11:04Imagine that. And her words, proved that she
- 11:06was nothing more than a greater challenge to the issues that he
- 11:09was experiencing. And that could be said of people
- 11:13today in churches, again, in marriages and household among
- 11:16siblings at workplaces. That their presence only brings
- 11:19more disturbance and difficulty when we are supposed to bring
- 11:24about Grace and assistance and lifting each other's burdens
- 11:29this woman was was of that sort. And we're going to see just how
- 11:33Discerning she was and these verses.
- 11:36But one insight about Abigail is actually found in what is said
- 11:39about her husband. Notice what the man says that
- 11:41the at the end of verse 17 about in about, he is such a worthless
- 11:45man, that one cannot speak to him.
- 11:50Nabob was a man that he couldn't, he would not listen to
- 11:53your advice. He would not even dare entertain
- 11:57the possibility that your input can actually be better than his
- 12:00Outlook. He could not humble himself.
- 12:03He would not even listen to what you would have to say.
- 12:06It was his way or the highway. It was his plan or no plan.
- 12:12And this individual, whose name means foolish is.
- 12:16Proving that by this very Insight here, he would not even
- 12:20open his ears to what somebody can say, even if it was the most
- 12:24trustworthy servant, even if his own wife, And that proves that
- 12:28his wife was the opposite. She was open.
- 12:31She was humble, she could be approached.
- 12:35She could inquire, she can listen, she could, she could
- 12:38consider a better option. That didn't stem from our own
- 12:41thinking, or own ideas. And that is in the Bible, the
- 12:46first Mark in this, in this chapter, the first Mark of
- 12:49wisdom, someone who is willing to listen.
- 12:53Someone who is willing to listen, I love this verse.
- 12:57I've courted it many times because it has blessed me in my
- 12:59life. It's an Ecclesiastes 413 better
- 13:02to be a poor and wise youth than an old and foolish King who no
- 13:08longer knew how to take advice. What's foolishness?
- 13:13According to that verse a man, no matter how stately is, no
- 13:16matter what resources, he has a man who cannot take advice is a
- 13:21fool. Is a fool and that's Annabelle.
- 13:25But that's not his wife, Abigail.
- 13:27She could obviously receive. And therefore, one of the marks
- 13:31of somebody who is walking and good understanding, is that
- 13:33there they are willing to give their ear so that they can gain
- 13:39better understanding. So, here's a question to ask for
- 13:41ourselves and this Very practical.
- 13:43Bible study, do you seek advice from Godly men and godly woman?
- 13:49How does your heart respond to correction, to advice to input?
- 13:57Is it is it difficult for you to be?
- 13:59Told that perhaps you're wrong? Or are you in the place where
- 14:04you are so willing to be in the will of God that even if you are
- 14:07in the wrong you would want to be told you're in the wrong
- 14:09because you want to be walking in the light.
- 14:13There is no way that anybody will graduate in wisdom, if they
- 14:16can't get this simple, foundational, attitude
- 14:19developed. I must be willing to hear.
- 14:23I must be willing to listen. This was this woman.
- 14:28But we go on to verse 18. DC is second Mark.
- 14:30Then Abigail made haste and took 200 Loaves, and two skins of
- 14:37wine and five sheep already prepared and 5c has of Parts
- 14:42grain and 100 clusters of raisins and two hundred cakes of
- 14:46figs and laid them on donkeys. And she said to her young men,
- 14:50go on before me, behold? I come after you, but she did
- 14:53not tell her husband Abal verse 18, what sticks out to you
- 14:58There, when it comes to her response to the news from this
- 15:01young man. Haste very good then Abigail
- 15:09made haste. Here's Point, number two, of a
- 15:13person who possesses wisdom. Number one is that they are
- 15:16willing to. Listen, they're willing to hear
- 15:18they're willing to Humble themselves through the opinions
- 15:21and the insights of others. Number two, they have an ability
- 15:25to foresee They have an ability to foresee.
- 15:29I'm not talking about being prophetic in the sense that you
- 15:31can see the future. We'll get to what I mean in a
- 15:33moment. But notice her promptness based
- 15:35on the news when she was told from this young man, the
- 15:38imminent danger. She was able to in that moment,
- 15:41interpret the urgency of the matter and she acted
- 15:44appropriately. So she did not, she did not fail
- 15:48to realize how serious this issue was.
- 15:51And so she began to move according to the news that came
- 15:54to her front door. And a person who possesses good
- 15:58understanding, may not know exactly how everything in life
- 16:02will unfold every situation or circumstance.
- 16:04But one thing is for certain, they understand the possible
- 16:08danger of someone or something. And they know to a great degree
- 16:14how they should best either approach or avoid approach or
- 16:19avoid address or do not address. They have that kind of a
- 16:23concept, they have that comprehension and the by Praises
- 16:27that kind of wisdom. This is not me reading into the
- 16:30text. The Bible speaks exactly about
- 16:32this on more than one occasion in the book that people go to,
- 16:34to learn about how to be wise. So, in Proverbs 27:12, what are,
- 16:39we told the prudent sees danger and hides himself but the simple
- 16:46go on and suffer, they suffer for it.
- 16:50So, a wise person is able to look out into the Horizon and
- 16:55know what to do based on what is coming their way, they live,
- 17:00with a sense of being prepared, they, they work.
- 17:03Proactively now, always reacting.
- 17:06And this woman is proving that there are many things in life
- 17:10that will cause you. And I in wisdom to not respond
- 17:13to words of people, the actions of people to say this is not
- 17:17worth investing and iota of energy.
- 17:21Right? David did that with his older
- 17:22brothers brother was trying to scorn him and lock him in
- 17:25public. And they was like, okay okay I
- 17:26got it. I got bigger things to do here
- 17:28and so we had to be careful not to invest things into battles
- 17:31that don't matter in the end. But you have some people have
- 17:35this idea of wisdom and it's not wisdom that no matter what the
- 17:39situation is. Just leave it to God, it sounds
- 17:41spiritual, let God deal with it, let God deal.
- 17:46And yes, it's true. There are some things that we
- 17:49have to which are out of our control.
- 17:50Say, Lord, Can't do anything about this, you must intervene.
- 17:54But if we think that everything that happens in life has to be
- 17:57God, dealing with it, meaning that we don't, we don't lift our
- 18:00hands, we don't move, we don't plan.
- 18:02Then we have a lot of issues with many men and women of
- 18:05scripture, including Paul, if Paul said, just leave it to God,
- 18:09don't worry about it. You know, it's his church.
- 18:13He can take care of it, then. Why did he name so many names?
- 18:1521. Christians about agitators and
- 18:17false teachers. Why did he warn churches?
- 18:20Be careful of these individuals, just leave it to the Lord.
- 18:24The Lord no, don't do that. Don't do that all the time.
- 18:28That's not wise but you have people who give that kind of
- 18:30advice for every single thing just the Lord will know.
- 18:33God gives you instructions to do something, he gives you
- 18:37principles, he gives you guidelines of how to go about
- 18:40certain things and he will hold us accountable for it.
- 18:43And so we have to we have to pull back and realize that there
- 18:46are moments where the best thing to do is Be quiet and let the
- 18:49Lord fight that battle. And there are other times where
- 18:52God expects us to do something, how do you know what to do at
- 18:57what point with what situation? Well, that's where wisdom comes
- 19:00in. That's that's why we need God to
- 19:02give us that frame of mind to go.
- 19:04This is the Lord's. This is where I have to do
- 19:07something prayerfully. Yes, inquiring God to empower me
- 19:10and to give me the guidance, But ultimately, I got to do
- 19:12something here. And that's what we see here.
- 19:16Look at verse 34. Look.
- 19:18How David comments about Abigail's intervention.
- 19:23For surely as the Lord, the god of Israel Lives who has
- 19:26restrained me from hurting you, unless you had hurried and come
- 19:30to meet me. Truly by morning, there are not
- 19:34been left to nibble so much as one male you didn't come and
- 19:38show up. You all would have been dead.
- 19:41Your timing. Your promptness was a God thing.
- 19:47But look at her the same woman who acted in such promptness.
- 19:51Look at her patients in verse 36 and dealing with her husband and
- 19:56Abigail came to Nepal and behold.
- 19:58He was holding a feast in his house like the Feast of a king.
- 20:01And the ball is heart was Marry within him for, he was very
- 20:04drunk so she told them nothing at all until the morning light.
- 20:11You see, there was a moment to act, there was a moment to wait
- 20:16and the context the context will determine that and the wisdom
- 20:20will know what to say went to Saint.
- 20:22Is this the time, is this not the time so there's no code of
- 20:27what to do in every situation. You realize that right?
- 20:31The Bible would be this big but what God does is he impart
- 20:35something known as wisdom. So that even in 2022 when you're
- 20:39in a situation that is not necessarily in a book of the
- 20:42Bible, you know how to go about in the most righteous and God
- 20:44glorifying way. And with this woman she knew
- 20:48when to act shoot she knew where not to act, and both were very,
- 20:53very prosperous. And as I look at this, as I look
- 20:57at her, promptness, her Readiness, her hastiness to act
- 21:00upon the news that she receives. Don't you, don't?
- 21:02You get a gospel, a gospel idea here.
- 21:07That she receives some news of imminent judgment and her
- 21:11comprehension was to be urgent with her response and that is
- 21:16the same. That is the same kind of
- 21:18attitude people must have when it comes to receiving the news
- 21:21of the Gospel. To promptly, realize the urgency
- 21:26of the matter and to respond to the demands of such a truth.
- 21:30As soon as possible, she did not delay.
- 21:32She did not. Wait, she did not think we know
- 21:35this. This can hold off till next week
- 21:37she realized though not knowing when it was about to happen.
- 21:40That there was a man coming though, unjust was his
- 21:43Vengeance? There is one coming who is just
- 21:46with his vengeance. And Paul gave us the timeframe
- 21:50of how every person should respond to that.
- 21:52Truth today is the day of salvation.
- 21:55Now why would you wait till tomorrow?
- 21:58If we looked at abigaile in this situation and she said you know
- 22:01I'll think about it I got to contemplate other Concepts
- 22:04first. I got to realize if I really
- 22:06want to get into this and we would say whatever foolish.
- 22:11You're a fool. Why would you even hold off on
- 22:13that? It's coming?
- 22:15Whether you realize it or not, whether you believe it or not,
- 22:16it's going to happen. And so, if we would call Abigail
- 22:19a fool for reacting in such a way with such delay in
- 22:23hesitation, what we tell. If those who do the same with
- 22:26the coming Christ, the ultimate manifestation of foolishness.
- 22:34And so we see that there is an ability to interpret the timing
- 22:39of things, the context of things and 24, see where things can go,
- 22:43that can only come when God by his Spirit through his word in
- 22:46prayer, gives you something known as wisdom.
- 22:50Look at verse 19, and she said to her young men, go on before
- 22:54me, behold? I come after you, but she did
- 22:56not tell her husband about Here's the third Mark of wisdom.
- 23:01First was you're able to listen second there is an ability to
- 23:05foreseen to act to act based on the unique situation.
- 23:10What to do, what not to do. Let me let me emphasize that
- 23:13point again. Solomon knew what to do when
- 23:15those two women came arguing for who who belong to the baby whose
- 23:19mother was the baby and he goes, give me his sword cut in half.
- 23:22Give them each a piece. Where did that come from?
- 23:25Where did that come from? It didn't come from the book of
- 23:27Deuteronomy. You can't find a verse on that.
- 23:30Prior to that he asked God for wisdom and God gave him the
- 23:33exact ability to know how to evaluate and move about in a
- 23:36situation that was extremely unique.
- 23:38So unique was a and so profound was it that they said, this was
- 23:40from God. What's the wisdom here in verse
- 23:4519? Very good.
- 23:55But she did not tell her husband Duvall.
- 23:59Now, I don't know if that would sound like wisdom to us, but it
- 24:03is because wisdom is not just knowing what to say, it's
- 24:06knowing what not to say. Wisdom is not just being able to
- 24:11give out wonderful truths about life and how to go about certain
- 24:17situation. Wisdom also knows how to sing
- 24:22even the right thing to the wrong person.
- 24:26This is Beyond Basics, this is deeper than that.
- 24:28And we see that here with this woman.
- 24:30Unfortunately, in this case, the person who is intentionally
- 24:33uninformed was their own husband.
- 24:36So we can't look at this as a proof.
- 24:38Text of being conniving and deceiving and being sneaky
- 24:42especially when it comes to marriage because a man and woman
- 24:45and that Covenant are one. They share many things together.
- 24:49But as we come to a text like this, although she's not working
- 24:52against her husband, she is doing something that her husband
- 24:55should have been doing. Remember the bowel was not just
- 24:58being rude to David nabarro was breaking God's commands in his
- 25:02treatment of David by not providing from as a script.
- 25:05Sure says to provide. So what she is doing here, is
- 25:08she is paying the debt that the Manos.
- 25:12She is stepping up because he would not step up and she and
- 25:17wisdom knew. If I include him in this, it
- 25:20will be to our own destruction because surely he would object
- 25:23and there will be chaos and it will be to his own demise.
- 25:27And so the best thing to do though it was a difficult thing
- 25:29to do. Was I cannot tell this man, he
- 25:31is just too foolish. She knew that the servants knew
- 25:34that the only person who didn't believe that was himself, But
- 25:39the principle is still here, right?
- 25:41Obviously the situation is unique, this is a matter of life
- 25:44and death, it's not a matter of you should buy certain piece of
- 25:46furniture for the house or not. You're not telling your hubby,
- 25:48that's not what it is. We're going to die here and so
- 25:52she needed to come and she needed to step up and she needed
- 25:54to exclude him for his own life. And for her own life, or for
- 25:58many other people's lives, wisdom knows what not to say.
- 26:06And what not to say to certain people.
- 26:09That's not being secretive, that's being prudent and
- 26:14responsible. Foolishness is seen in the
- 26:18person who is unable to conceal. Who is unable to reserve things
- 26:24for the thrill of being some kind of informant.
- 26:28For the thrill of engaging in conversations that can easily to
- 26:31gossip. And other Troublesome talk a
- 26:35person who is wise is quiet. They know that even what is
- 26:39true. And right, if it's in the hands
- 26:42of the immature or those who are not able to deal with such
- 26:46information that could be more harmful than anything else.
- 26:49The Bible tells us in Proverbs 20, do not associate with a
- 26:52simple babbler. Somebody that can't just stop
- 26:56talking somebody that just doesn't they don't.
- 26:58Local 8, their words. They just just word vomit on
- 27:01everything and everybody. All right, somebody jokingly
- 27:04said, if you want news to get across the land, don't go to
- 27:08your local news station. Just go to your local church.
- 27:13People in the church are very good at spreading information,
- 27:15very fast and it's information that not needed to be spread.
- 27:19And yet, here we see that this woman knew what not to say and
- 27:23that was actually for the greater good, that was for the
- 27:26greater good. I can give you many examples of
- 27:28what that looks like, but let me just ask you this question.
- 27:29Remember we're examining ourselves.
- 27:31Do you always have their urge to share everything that you learn,
- 27:34or you experience in life? Is there any privacy in your
- 27:37life? You know, God even encourages
- 27:40you and I to keep things secret You know that right?
- 27:45No, is it looking me like I'm lying, doesn't he tell you when
- 27:50you pray to do it in secret? Did he tell you when you fast to
- 27:54do it in secret, didn't you say when you give to do it in
- 27:57secret, you know, we talked about being having an intimate
- 28:01relationship with the Lord. But there's nothing intimate
- 28:03about it. God, even in him, he wants
- 28:05things to be one-on-one to certain level.
- 28:07Yes, we live in community, and we live openly, and we're
- 28:09transparent for the sake of accountability.
- 28:11But there must be some things that are just between us and
- 28:13him. He tells us that he tells us
- 28:16that I remember a young brother who was young in the faith?
- 28:21When he first got saved, he poor fellow.
- 28:23He thought that he can trust every Christian that he talked
- 28:25to you. And so when he first got saved
- 28:28he starts he just joined a local church.
- 28:29He was telling everybody what God was revealing to his heart,
- 28:32what God was calling him to do? How I think God is going to take
- 28:36me there and do this with me and somebody wisely?
- 28:39Put them aside maybe you broke his heart but it's okay.
- 28:42He can't be doing that stuff. Why I'm with Christians?
- 28:46I'm in the church. Yeah you'll figure it out long
- 28:48enough. And that person learn from a
- 28:52wise individual, but he also learned from experience.
- 28:55And so there is a wisdom in knowing how to conceal and not
- 28:59being a person who continually and always reveals, whether
- 29:02that's your personal information, whether that's what
- 29:04you see, whether it's about the sins of other people.
- 29:09Joseph got in a lot of trouble for it by sharing his dreams,
- 29:13right? I mean, talk about immaturity,
- 29:16you share it the first time, and you can tell that they're acting
- 29:19different around you, and you go ahead and you add fuel to the
- 29:21fire. And you tell them this next
- 29:22dream, There's wisdom and concealing.
- 29:28Let's read on here in verse 20 and as she rode on the donkey
- 29:32and Kane under cover of the mountain.
- 29:35Behold David and his men came down toward her and she met them
- 29:39now. David had said, surely in vain
- 29:42have I guarded all that this fellow has in the wilderness so
- 29:46that nothing was missed of all that belonged to him and he has
- 29:49returned me, evil for good. God do so to the enemies of
- 29:54David and more also, if by morning, I leave so much as one
- 29:58male of all who belong to him. Now before we go into this next
- 30:04point the scripture, it's almost like we're getting a scene cut.
- 30:08As we now see in the suspense is building of Abigail preparing
- 30:11the provision for this man. We come to the man and we can
- 30:15see the fumes from his head and we even see the frustration.
- 30:21So boiled over in his heart. So burning in his soul that he's
- 30:25actually voicing. What is bothering him to the
- 30:28Bone. He's actually talking to
- 30:31himself. How much this man is consumed
- 30:34with rage. And as you read her, you get an
- 30:36idea of why he is angry, and it's really an inside of why
- 30:40many people are disappointed in their Christian walk.
- 30:43Notice what he says here Now, David had said in verse 21,
- 30:47surely in vain, I have guarded, all that this fellow has in the
- 30:51wilderness. David believed for a moment that
- 30:57his efforts that his service, that his sacrifice was a waste.
- 31:04Because I just wasted my time. I wasted my energy.
- 31:08I wasted my love. And you know what?
- 31:12My brother, my sister, you will open yourself up to a lot of
- 31:15disappointment in your Christian walk.
- 31:18If you are only looking for rewards in this life, Because
- 31:25you have many people that are ready to give up simply because
- 31:27they didn't receive the praise that they were expecting for
- 31:29their service and you have people who are not only just
- 31:32willing to give up their ready to turn their back on God
- 31:34altogether because they receive unjust treatment for their for
- 31:38their good. If you view your ministry in
- 31:44light of how David viewed his service, you're setting yourself
- 31:47up to not have great longevity in your faithfulness to the
- 31:51Lord. you're setting yourself up for much internal turmoil, if
- 31:57you just see your reward in this life, And not just
- 32:04disappointment. If you're not careful, that kind
- 32:08of frustration can lead to justifying certain sins and
- 32:12compromise to medicate yourself because sin always promises
- 32:15immediate rewarding gratification.
- 32:19And this man wanted to satisfy to a certain degree, I wanted to
- 32:22just kill all these people and a mini genocide.
- 32:26You know what the antidote is, you know, what the remedy is to
- 32:29this believe. With all your heart that there
- 32:32is a God in heaven, who is keeping a count of all your
- 32:34works. All your Works ones that you
- 32:37would even consider to be worthy to be rewarded.
- 32:42And I believe God knew God knew that in his people throughout
- 32:45time Woodfield, The Temptations. That David is saying with
- 32:48believe those lies. And so throughout the
- 32:50scriptures, he's given many promises and assurances that
- 32:53there is a day coming where I will look you in the eyes and I
- 32:56will reward you though men have ignored you and dismissed you
- 33:00One of my favorite scriptures is in the New Testament.
- 33:03It's in Hebrews chapter 6, verse 10.
- 33:05Look what the author says for, God is Not unjust for God is Not
- 33:11unjust. So as to overlook your work and
- 33:14the love that you have shown for his name and serving the Saints
- 33:18as you still do, men might be unjust.
- 33:22Even your spiritual leaders might be unjust by taking
- 33:26advantage of your never thanking you or never giving you the
- 33:29appreciation. That you believe you deserve but
- 33:33God is Not unjust to overlook what you do for the Saints.
- 33:36He will, in fact, rewards you and it will be greater than if
- 33:39all the world was given to. You see, if David believe that
- 33:43what he had done for Anna ball, don't he was mistreated.
- 33:46I'm sure that this would have subsided much more than What's
- 33:49Happening Here. But we're coming back to
- 33:52Abigail, right? She's about to face this enraged
- 33:55Warrior. When Abigail saw David and verse
- 33:5923, she hurried and got down from the donkey and fell before
- 34:04David on her face and bowed to the ground.
- 34:08She fell at his feet and said, on me alone, my Lord be the
- 34:12guilt. Please let your servant speak in
- 34:16your ears and hear the words of your servant, all right.
- 34:20Marks of wisdom, number one, you're able to listen number
- 34:24two, you have an ability to foresee.
- 34:28You don't have blinders on you, understand that possible dangers
- 34:31of rewards. The best outcome of the
- 34:33decisions that you would make in a certain circumstance.
- 34:37Number three, we learned that wisdom also knows not what to
- 34:39say. And to say the right thing to
- 34:41the wrong person is not beneficial.
- 34:44There is an element of concealment for the sake of
- 34:46people's protection and your own protection at times number, for
- 34:51a wise person, possesses a calculated ability to approach a
- 34:58specific audience in a specific way.
- 35:02A wise person knows what to say how to say it, depending on the
- 35:08person, who is receiving, what you want to offer.
- 35:11And that's what we see in this woman.
- 35:14This encounter, this confrontation is very unique, it
- 35:18is dripping with Grace. It is dripping with Divine
- 35:23wisdom and it is an encouragement in a world where
- 35:26you will deal with conflict and people who will step on your
- 35:29toes. And that's what we see with this
- 35:31woman. She comes to David and what's
- 35:34the first thing that she does in verse 23?
- 35:39She falls before him. She bowed before him before she
- 35:44says anything. She's already demonstrating a
- 35:48posture of respect. I love that.
- 35:51You know why? Because not only with all the
- 35:53supplies that she brought all the food that she brought not
- 35:57only is she supplying and paying for the debt that the mall did
- 36:01not pay. She's also providing the respect
- 36:05that he refused to give. She comes with humility and she
- 36:13falls at his feet. And she gently appeals to him.
- 36:20Read this. I don't know if you read it
- 36:22before the Bible study, read it. After you'll realize it, as we
- 36:24read it together, how many times she refers to him as my Lord, my
- 36:28Lord, my Lord, my Lord, my Lord, my Lord, this is this is amazing
- 36:34because she's doing the exact opposite of what her husband was
- 36:38doing. She knows exactly what the wound
- 36:41is, as she's treating it. She's not just she's doing
- 36:45something very, very intentional here.
- 36:49And what I love about her initial approach, is that she
- 36:53could have come off immediately with a sharp rebuke.
- 36:56You know why? Because David is about to do
- 36:58something that is extremely sinful.
- 37:00He's about to kill people unjustly.
- 37:04And maybe with the news coming to us about a person who was
- 37:07about to do that, and with the power that you have, as a
- 37:11wealthy woman with, with many servants, at your disposal, she
- 37:14could have come on. His, what do you think you are?
- 37:18What do you think you're doing? Would it would have been
- 37:20Justified? Perhaps would have been the best
- 37:22option. Perhaps not wouldn't be the most
- 37:25effective way of approaching the situation.
- 37:29She comes in a way that wins David and his attention and his
- 37:34willingness to pause and consider what she has to say.
- 37:38That's wisdom that is wisdom. And we heard it earlier about
- 37:44how a gentle answer turns away wrath, you know, I've put that
- 37:48to test a couple of times in my life with strangers and it works
- 37:53it actually works especially in a day and especially in a nation
- 37:57like America where it doesn't take much for people to be upset
- 37:59with you. It's incredible.
- 38:03And we see it. We see it lived out.
- 38:06Here she respects the man, she comes with that kind of Aura.
- 38:11She comes with that kind of attitude, and what's even more
- 38:15impressive. Was she is a wealthy and
- 38:18beautiful woman. She didn't come with a sense of
- 38:23superiority. She didn't come with a snobby,
- 38:26kind of feel about her. She came like a servant.
- 38:31She came and bowed before him. That's amazing because I learned
- 38:35by that this woman though. She had the money though, she
- 38:39had the beauty that didn't poison her character.
- 38:43She didn't, she didn't, she didn't allow that to interfere
- 38:45with her treatment of other people.
- 38:48And so, when she comes with this, we learn here that the
- 38:51fragrance of humility is attractive.
- 38:57And you and I are to apply that as a perfume on our garment, so
- 39:00that the closer we get to people, the more inviting we are
- 39:05because nothing repels people more than pride and arrogance.
- 39:08Even if what you have to say is right, if you stink with that
- 39:12stench people want to walk away from you without even giving you
- 39:14a chance to say what you think you have to say.
- 39:19She's so, she's so adorable. Not an acute sense.
- 39:23But in the sense of just just her sensitivity and our
- 39:27willingness to come solo is wonderful and look what she does
- 39:32here, in verse 24. On me alone, my Lord be the
- 39:36guilt. Please let your servant speak in
- 39:39your ears and hear the words of your servant this machine.
- 39:42This is so she doesn't come with respect.
- 39:44Now she comes, she's coming with a form of repentance.
- 39:48She says put the guilt on me now.
- 39:50Hold on that seems Noble. But that's also that's also
- 39:55wrong to our sense of justice because we know that the person
- 39:59who's in the wrong is Annabelle. Not her and she admits that in
- 40:02the next verse. She confesses I was ignorant of
- 40:05what took place here, but she still has her initial call to
- 40:10him. Wants to take the attention away
- 40:13from the ball and put it on her and she's willing to pay for
- 40:17whatever. Ball.
- 40:18Her husband has caused. This is astounding.
- 40:21Now, here's the prophetic picture.
- 40:22Who does that sound like? Your lord.
- 40:27Our savior. Who is more beautiful than
- 40:3210,000? Who's wiser than Solomon?
- 40:36and who like, Abigail is willing to stand in the way between
- 40:41Wrath, and the guilty. Who's willing to take the guilt
- 40:45of another and for it to be placed upon herself.
- 40:48This is, this is a picture of Christ.
- 40:51Let me stand in the way. Though, they are deserving of
- 40:55it. I will take it upon myself.
- 40:58And I will do so in the form of great humility.
- 41:01As we were told in Philippians 2 that he humbled himself by
- 41:05becoming a servant and dying, not just any death, but even
- 41:09death on a cross. And so we see gospel picture
- 41:14here. But we also see something very
- 41:16very, very important when it comes to our practical life,
- 41:19right? What she is doing and her desire
- 41:23to evade this, and to bring this to rest, is that she is not
- 41:27downplaying. The seriousness of the offense,
- 41:30she's not ignoring she is not trying to dismiss or give excuse
- 41:35of what was done against David listen, and she doesn't a 25
- 41:40look here. Let not my Lord regard.
- 41:42This worthless fellow nutball for as his name is.
- 41:45So is he in the ball? Is his name and Folly is with
- 41:48him but I yours Servant did not see the young men of my Lord
- 41:52whom you sent. Is that sound like somebody who
- 41:55is downplaying, what happened? No, she's calling it as it is,
- 42:01and she is pinning. The guilt exactly where it
- 42:03should go. She's recognizing the
- 42:04foolishness of this man. And that is good, because if you
- 42:09and I are striving to bring about reconciliation, whether in
- 42:12our own lives are between others, one of the worst things
- 42:15that you can do is either make an excuse, or to dismiss the
- 42:19pain. At somebody experienced from the
- 42:21wrong wrong of somebody else. This is especially hard when we
- 42:27are the offender and we are at a crisis, you have to reconcile.
- 42:31So let me just do this and you approach the person that you
- 42:34have offended and in that process you are we've all done
- 42:39it. We've all we've all thought it.
- 42:40How can I downplay my offense as much as possible?
- 42:46And the reason why we do that is because we don't want our pride
- 42:48to be hurt, right? You're saying, why is that?
- 42:53Why is that our inclination? Because we inherited from Adam
- 42:55and Eve, that's why. Almost immediately after the
- 43:00fall, one of the reflexes of men and his Fallen state was ago.
- 43:03It's her fault. Yeah I did it but you did that
- 43:07for me to do this. Have you said it before?
- 43:10Have you thought of before? Nothing of the sort from this
- 43:14woman. Because you and I have to
- 43:17determine in those moments of potential reconciliation.
- 43:20Am I willing for my pride to be hurt so that the hurt can be
- 43:25restored. Am I willing for my pride to be
- 43:29hurt so that the genuinely hurting can be healed?
- 43:34That's going to require acknowledgement.
- 43:36It's going to require honest assessment.
- 43:39I was wrong. I cannot tell you how over the
- 43:42years of seeing people attempt to reconcile how that is one of
- 43:45the most powerful healing forces.
- 43:49To seeing something rebuild again.
- 43:52When there's like no hint of excuses, just like I'm wrong.
- 43:55It's wrong. It was evil.
- 43:56It was wicked. I was in the flesh.
- 43:58It just like you can even in the atmosphere just like something
- 44:02happens. This is what she's doing and I
- 44:06have a feeling that in this moment already.
- 44:09There was cool water poured on the inflamed heart of this this
- 44:13Mighty Soldier. She had this ability to know how
- 44:18to come what to say, how to say it.
- 44:22And already there's been great success in her attempt to bring
- 44:25about peace in the situation. A wise person knows how to
- 44:29approach a specific audience in a specific way.
- 44:33If they're filled with Fury, you're not going to fight fire
- 44:36with fire, that's that's unwise. If they are hurting and and they
- 44:41are hurting because of their sin and they're showing remote
- 44:44remorse and Brokenness you're not going to come and take
- 44:46another whip at them. You're going to come in a way in
- 44:50which you can encourage them and build them up.
- 44:52If there's somebody who is extremely arrogant Anderson, no
- 44:54sign of repentance, no sign of conviction.
- 44:56You might have to be a little bit more Stern.
- 44:58How do you apply all of that something called wisdom?
- 45:03But we come here and we see something else of fifth sign of
- 45:06wisdom. And it's here in verse 26.
- 45:12Now, then my Lord, as the Lord lives and as your soul lives
- 45:15because the Lord has restrained you from blood guilt and from
- 45:18saving with your own hand, now then let your enemies and those
- 45:21who seek to do evil to my Lord be aznable.
- 45:25And now let this present that your servant has brought to my
- 45:27Lord be given to the young. Men who follow my Lord, please
- 45:31forgive the trespass of your servant for the Lord will
- 45:34certainly make my Lord assure house because my Lord is
- 45:38fighting the battles of the Lord, and evil shall not be
- 45:41found. You saw as long as you live, if
- 45:44men rise up to pursue you and to seek your life, the life of my
- 45:47Lord shall be bound in the bundle of the living, and the
- 45:49care of the Lord, your God, and the lives of your enemies.
- 45:52He shall sling out from the hollow of a sling and when the
- 45:57Lord has done to my Lord, according to all the good that
- 45:59he has spoken concerning you and has appointed, you Prince over
- 46:02Israel, my Lord shall have no cause of grief or pangs of
- 46:06conscience for having shed blood without cause or for my Lord,
- 46:10working salvation himself. If and when the Lord has dealt
- 46:13well with my Lord, then remember your servant beautiful
- 46:17incredible piercing gripping. What's happening here?
- 46:23So after she addresses him with respect and reverence, and with
- 46:26balm and her voice and her words, there's much to learn in
- 46:30the remainder of their speech here.
- 46:31But one specific thing needs to be highlighted.
- 46:34She now includes the Lord in the matter.
- 46:40Seven times she names the Lord. And she's doing the
- 46:45strategically. She knows who she speaking to.
- 46:48She speaking to a man of God, a man who loves God.
- 46:50She didn't know him personally, but she knew enough about him.
- 46:53That David would care about how God would see the situation.
- 46:59And that tells me something about what Temptation does, what
- 47:02sin does is that it is able to Blind you to the awareness of
- 47:07God and his involvement in situations in your life.
- 47:12It's amazing how sin when it is indulge or when it is answer to,
- 47:17it has an intoxicating effect upon the mind and often times if
- 47:22people are not careful, when they are just consumed with
- 47:26passion, they exclude God from their thinking.
- 47:31And if they're not careful, they might include God, but they will
- 47:34twist something about God's word and his willingness person to
- 47:37justify the behavior that they are premeditating to act upon
- 47:42what she does. Is she, she's trying to sober
- 47:44him up and here's the fifth. Mark of a person who possesses
- 47:48wisdom, they have a theological frame of mind.
- 47:52In other words, they know God's word and they know how it
- 47:55applies to daily life. This wisdom that comes from God.
- 48:00Surely you can have practical wisdom in life to know how to go
- 48:04about certain things about ultimate.
- 48:06Wisdom comes from God. So how are you going to?
- 48:08No Greater Heights of wisdom without knowing god and his word
- 48:11and how it applies to people's lives.
- 48:15Christians should be the best counselors in the world and
- 48:18obviously doesn't help much for the person whose unregenerate.
- 48:21But but to us, we have to understand what's happening.
- 48:24Here she is including God in the matter and she knows God's word
- 48:30specifically in his applying it specifically.
- 48:34How is she doing that? Look again, here in verse 26.
- 48:39What do you see from this? Now, then my Lord, as the Lord
- 48:42lives, and as your soul lives because the Lord had has
- 48:44restrained you from blood guilt. And from saving with your own
- 48:47hand, what is she talking about right there?
- 48:53She's talking about what's happening in this very moment.
- 48:54Is she not? So, what's Abigail doing?
- 48:59She realizes that this interruption is Providence.
- 49:05He David God, God is trying to get your attention in this
- 49:09moment right here. I'm telling you that this is not
- 49:11Abigail coming to you. This is God, providing you a
- 49:16chance to not move forward in your sin.
- 49:20This woman, understood how Providence work that this young
- 49:22man coming up to her and her catching David on time.
- 49:25That was God and she is rehearsing that over this man,
- 49:29God is giving you a chance not to act in the flesh and she's
- 49:33doing it. So carefully realize that she is
- 49:37indirectly. Telling him you are about to do
- 49:39evil, you're about to do wrong and God is trying to stop.
- 49:41You, like, brilliant. So she's now interpreting
- 49:45Providence in the matter. She believed in Providence and
- 49:49she knew how to see Providence when it presented itself.
- 49:53But look at verse 28, what did she say in verse 28, please
- 49:58forgive the trespass of your servant.
- 49:59Look at this part for the Lord. Will certainly make my Lord a
- 50:02scherff house because my Lord is fighting the battles of the
- 50:05Lord, and evil shall not be found in you.
- 50:07As long as you live, she's reminding David that as a
- 50:12servant of God, you are fighting God's battles, you are doing his
- 50:15will, you're accomplishing his purposes because of this David
- 50:19know this that your future is secure.
- 50:22Your future. God has your future in his hand.
- 50:26She believed that she believed that for day that she wanted
- 50:28David to believe it. Don't don't forget how this is
- 50:31going to affect the days to come realize.
- 50:33The goodness of God, he's brought you up to this point and
- 50:36he wants to continue to lead. You don't take matters into your
- 50:39own hands. So she had understanding of
- 50:43God's plans and God's involvement in the purposes that
- 50:46he has and she's counseling. This man with that truth.
- 50:50Verse 29, what did she say? If men rise up to pursue you and
- 50:55to seek your life, the life of my Lord shall be bound up in the
- 50:58bundle of the living, in the care of the Lord.
- 51:00Your God God's protection. This is not your fight to fight.
- 51:06God will protect you. And look at look at the
- 51:08language. He uses your he shall sling out
- 51:11as from the hollow of a sling. What does that alluding to?
- 51:19I believe she's alluding back to the battle between David and
- 51:22Goliath. All of Israel heard about it,
- 51:24surely she heard about it and she's using the same language of
- 51:28that experience and say, listen David, the God that was faithful
- 51:31to you between you and Goliath will deal with this situation.
- 51:36If you dealt with Goliath, he'll deal with no ball.
- 51:39If you dealt with that giant, you'll deal with this fool,
- 51:43don't get involved with this, she was aware of God's acts.
- 51:48She was aware of what he's done throughout history.
- 51:49Even if it was obviously in her time, but she was aware, she
- 51:53applied that, she reminded David of that.
- 51:57Look at verse 30. and when the Lord has done to my Lord,
- 52:01according to all the good that he has spoken concerning you and
- 52:04has appointed you Prince over Israel, God's promises.
- 52:10Look how confident she is in. God's promises.
- 52:12What does she say in verse 30? and, when the Lord, she did, say
- 52:18if She say if the Lord has done to my Lord, but when it's a
- 52:23matter of when it's going to happen.
- 52:25So confident, so, anchored. If God said something is going
- 52:29to happen, and she is so confident in what God said that
- 52:32she's calling David to build the foundation of his life and his
- 52:36trust upon the Reliance of the character and the faithfulness
- 52:39of God. This woman is wise surely
- 52:44because she knows who our God is and she knows how God's his
- 52:50character bleeds into our lives and how we act in our lives will
- 52:55determine how things play out. And if we, if we obeyed, and
- 53:00here's a blessing, if he disobeyed his risk of great
- 53:02loss, wisdom is found in the person.
- 53:06Who knows their God And that's why you should strive to find
- 53:12people in your life, who walk with God.
- 53:14If you're going to get Council on anything.
- 53:18Because this is the ultimate source of truth and light in
- 53:22this life. Verse 31.
- 53:26Here's the final sign of wisdom. I'm sure if we dissected it
- 53:29more, we can find many others. Let's look at verse 31.
- 53:32Here's the final one. My Lord shall have no cause of
- 53:35grief or pangs of conscience for having shed blood without cause
- 53:40or for my Lord, working salvation himself.
- 53:44What is she concerned about? The future.
- 53:49She's concerned about the days to come.
- 53:51She's concerned about when the dust settles and and the the
- 53:56emotions subsides and the deed has been done, what will happen
- 54:00after the fact that's wisdom. Fools only think about the
- 54:06moment, wise people think about how the moment effects tomorrow.
- 54:12Fool things about immediate results.
- 54:16Wisdom things about the long-lasting effects.
- 54:21And we become fools when we are tempted with sin.
- 54:24Because we don't think about the consequences.
- 54:26We only think about what we can get from the moment, but a
- 54:29person who has wisdom even in the midst of the tornadoes of
- 54:33Temptation, can see if I give in to this, this is what can
- 54:37happen. Potentially.
- 54:38And so I will not give in to this because I see that the sin
- 54:41and the consequences, outweighs whatever, promises or pleasure
- 54:44gratification that I can get right now.
- 54:47And she's reminding him of this. If you do this, if you do this,
- 54:50your testimony is going to be ruined.
- 54:53How are people going to look up to you as a king?
- 54:55When they know that you have massacred a man and his
- 54:57employees and his family? How are people going to think
- 55:00that you're consistent with Saul?
- 55:02You've claimed to be a one who trusted in God's Vengeance and
- 55:05left things into his own hands. But in this case, you didn't
- 55:09think about this. What is Saul going to be able to
- 55:12say about you? If you kill this man without
- 55:15cause will he not win? More people to come against you
- 55:18bellina have something on you? If you go about this, you see
- 55:23what wisdom does. Wisdom thinks about the future
- 55:27not just today. And that is true, even in face
- 55:31of sin. And so here's a woman who's
- 55:35radiating who almost personifies wisdom.
- 55:38It's incredible. And we can go on to finish the
- 55:40rest of this chapter, to look at different different things.
- 55:43Concerning that theme. But let's just look at David's
- 55:46response real quickly. So you can imagine once she
- 55:51pauses on this, I don't know if she just kept your head down, I
- 55:53don't know if she looked into his eyes.
- 55:54I don't know how it looked, but you can just imagine the tension
- 55:59in the air as David was there. I don't even have his hand on
- 56:03his sword as this woman. Just appeared out of nowhere.
- 56:07And David said to Abigail blessed, be the Lord, the god of
- 56:11Israel who sent you this day to meet me blessed.
- 56:14Be your discretion and blessed. Be you with kept me this day,
- 56:18from blood guilt, and from working salvation, with my own
- 56:22hand, for surely as the Lord, the god of Israel Lives who has
- 56:27restrained me from hurting you, unless you had heard and come to
- 56:30me me, truly by morning, they're not been left tunable so much as
- 56:34one male Then David received from her hand, what she had
- 56:38brought him and he said to her go up in peace in your house,
- 56:42see, I will be your voice and I've granted your petition.
- 56:47This man was so bird. It worked.
- 56:51It was a success he humbled himself, he acknowledged that he
- 56:55was ready to commit a great sin. He realized that she was right
- 57:00and he was in the wrong. And In This Moment here we can
- 57:05learn so much from his response but here's here's a point I want
- 57:08to make out of many points. What is he bless about?
- 57:12Abigail and verse 3? What did we learn about our two
- 57:15things? She was what The street and what
- 57:20beautiful? What is he praising here?
- 57:24If you praising her hair, her eyes, her figure is that what?
- 57:30Want his heart? Now their discretion is their
- 57:35character. You know why?
- 57:37This is encouraging by the end of the chapter.
- 57:38He's going to marry this woman. He's going to marry this woman
- 57:43because he didn't realize this is someone that pushes me
- 57:47towards righteousness. This is someone that stirs me up
- 57:51to Godliness. This is someone that doesn't
- 57:53cause me to be tempted. More but causes me to live for
- 57:56my God more. I want her as a partner in life,
- 58:01my single brothers and sisters consider that as a candidate
- 58:05consider, what truly matters and last in the long run, consider
- 58:08as you want to serve God and be faithful to him.
- 58:12That whoever you're going to run this race with will help you.
- 58:15I heard from somebody that whoever your spouse is going to
- 58:17be, they will either give you weights or they're going to give
- 58:19you wings. I met the person by God's grace
- 58:23give you wings to soar to Greater Holiness and
- 58:26Effectiveness and fruitfulness for the kingdom of God.
- 58:30He Praises God, he Praises God for her and he wants to marry
- 58:36her and he's going to do that though.
- 58:38I don't agree the way he does it because he marries different
- 58:40people too. What do we do with the rest of
- 58:43this chapter? It would be awkward to finish
- 58:47here. So let's complete it.
- 58:48And the way we're going to look at it is we're going to see here
- 58:51in a moment, Abigail's fate and the balls Faith.
- 58:57They both received the same Revelation and opportunity
- 59:00concerning David. They both responded to it
- 59:04differently and they both will experience different outcomes as
- 59:07a result. So it is with the sinner in
- 59:09light of the truth of Jesus Christ.
- 59:12The ball will prove. What will happen to the center?
- 59:16And Abigail approved to some degree.
- 59:18What is the end result of the person?
- 59:21Who acknowledges the true, son of David verse 36 and Abigail
- 59:26came to Nepal and behold. He was holding a feast in his
- 59:30house like the Feast of a king and the balls heart was Mary
- 59:34within him for he was very drunk so she told them nothing at all
- 59:38until the morning light. Look at that little phrase and
- 59:41behold. It's almost as though the holy
- 59:43spirit that could you believe what's happening right now?
- 59:46Check this out. What's Happening Here?
- 59:50That while there's impending judgment on the way, this man is
- 59:53partying. This man isn't swimming and
- 59:58debauchery. This man is enjoying his worldly
- 1:00:02success drinking and being Merry, and being loud and
- 1:00:08indulging. All the while there is someone
- 1:00:13on his way to bring about a finality of his life.
- 1:00:17What a picture of the world, what a picture of what's
- 1:00:19happening this Friday night? That there is the son of David,
- 1:00:25the root and descendant of David, who is on his way, not
- 1:00:28with unjust Revenge, but just Revenge upon the wiccan of those
- 1:00:32who did not obey the gospel. And he will bring about eternal
- 1:00:35judgment. And yet the world is drowning in
- 1:00:38the sound of pleasure, and flesh, and sin, and it didn't
- 1:00:43change. The fact of what was coming his
- 1:00:46way. And some would look at Abigail
- 1:00:49and consider her to be the fool. You're not going to celebrate in
- 1:00:52this time of sharing of sheep of the Harvest.
- 1:00:55You're not going to join in this.
- 1:00:59Who is the real fool? The one who was enjoying the
- 1:01:03party or the one who is getting right?
- 1:01:07Before they were judged. In the end, the Real Fool as we
- 1:01:12know is noble. And the person who knew what to
- 1:01:15do with their time and their lives was was Abigail, so it is
- 1:01:18with the Christian first. Peter tells us that the world is
- 1:01:22surprised when you do not join them with their filth.
- 1:01:26And if Peter goes on to say, but but these people in their
- 1:01:28debauchery and then their world in this will be judged will be
- 1:01:32judged. See, while the bowel here is
- 1:01:35numbing himself. Abigail, was was getting
- 1:01:39reconciliation accomplished. because she looked forward, she
- 1:01:46looked at the future, even if that in our context and our
- 1:01:49understanding of this, even if it's the Eternal aspect, And
- 1:01:54this man, he's partying he's enjoying himself.
- 1:01:58But look at verse 37 in the morning when the wine had gone
- 1:02:01out of Nevada, the one of the world runs out of entually guys.
- 1:02:05his wife told him these things and his heart died within him
- 1:02:08and he became a stone About 10 days later.
- 1:02:12The Lord struck Nepal, he died. Think about it.
- 1:02:15So the night before your heart is Mary, you're talking about
- 1:02:20your success, your boasting, about your success, Like what
- 1:02:24Jesus said in Luke, right about the man who had Barnes and he
- 1:02:27filled the Barnes and goes I got to build more Barnes.
- 1:02:29What I'm going to do with all this stuff and then he says you
- 1:02:32fool, you do not know on this night, your soul is required of
- 1:02:36you. And here's a man the night
- 1:02:38before. He's the he's the heart of the
- 1:02:42party everybody's coming because of him.
- 1:02:46He's splurging, And the next day, he has a stroke.
- 1:02:51The next day he becomes a stone what a picture of the
- 1:02:56unpredictability of life, and here's this man 10 days and a
- 1:03:00vegetable like condition. Sealed in his state of the soul
- 1:03:08and God killed him. What about your sheep?
- 1:03:11Now, what about the 3000 in the 1000 goes, what about it?
- 1:03:15What's that gonna matter now? What's that going to matter?
- 1:03:18Now, as you stand before, God and answer for your life, Look
- 1:03:23at the fate of Abigail. Verse 39, when David heard that
- 1:03:28Annabelle was dead. He said, blessed.
- 1:03:30Be the Lord was Avenge the insult.
- 1:03:32I received at the hand of Nepal and has kept back his servant
- 1:03:35from wrongdoing. The Lord has returned the evil
- 1:03:38of Nepal in his own head, then David sent and spoke to Abigail
- 1:03:42to take her as his wife. The Servants of David came to
- 1:03:49Abigail at Carmel, they said to her, David has sent us to you to
- 1:03:52take you to him as his wife. Now isn't incredible.
- 1:03:55This is a woman who knew well, through new Comfort, a new
- 1:03:58luxury. Who probably even knew Fame on a
- 1:04:02local level. And look how she responds to
- 1:04:06this news as she Rose. And she Rose rather and bowed
- 1:04:09with her face to the ground and said, behold your handmade is a
- 1:04:12servant to wash the feet of the Servants of my Lord.
- 1:04:18Can you imagine that? She didn't get up and say, yeah,
- 1:04:21that's right. I am.
- 1:04:22I'm I am a queen. You pick the right one.
- 1:04:28She goes, I want to wash the feet, not just of David.
- 1:04:31I want to wash the feet of the Servants of David.
- 1:04:36She accepts the invitation to be wedded to this King and she saw
- 1:04:41a greater treasure to be Associated and to be intimate
- 1:04:45with this King, then to have all the land, all the goats, all
- 1:04:49this sheep, all the property, all the security that this life
- 1:04:53can offer. So it is with the Christian, so
- 1:04:56it is with the Christian and you know, what's incredible?
- 1:04:59Here she is not entering into a palace by saying yes to David.
- 1:05:05She's entering into a wilderness.
- 1:05:08There is no immediate benefit out of this.
- 1:05:11It would be much later until until David becomes the actual
- 1:05:14ruler and king of all of Israel. And there is a room with
- 1:05:18Abigail's name on it. But she still saw it of great
- 1:05:25Worth to say I want to walk this life with this King and serve
- 1:05:29him even if I have to turn my back on all of what I've known,
- 1:05:34all that has been granted to me all the protection and pleasure
- 1:05:37and provision. In this life, I rather be with
- 1:05:39this King. even if the reward is down the road, Believer.
- 1:05:46Do you feel that way with your relationship with Christ?
- 1:05:51Or do you have a tension in your life between the lifestyle of
- 1:05:53noble and living for Christ? I hope you see his Beauty.
- 1:06:00See David here was attractive to this woman even though he was a
- 1:06:04fallen man, who'd made mistakes. But there is nothing that we can
- 1:06:09point at Christ and say there's something wrong here.
- 1:06:12He's perfect, he's altogether. Lovely.
- 1:06:17And if you see him for who he truly is, you cannot help but be
- 1:06:19magnetized towards him. And if you haven't realized that
- 1:06:24long enough, if you haven't realized that up to this point,
- 1:06:27ask God to show you just how incredible he is.
- 1:06:31Ask him to give you such a revelation of who he is.
- 1:06:35That you wouldn't even look over your shoulder.
- 1:06:36And say, I wonder if I should have stayed.
- 1:06:40I wonder if I should have gave half of myself.
- 1:06:43Why? I don't know if this is really
- 1:06:45worth it. She became his wife.
- 1:06:51To wash feet. She saw serving David as a
- 1:06:56greater treasure than whatever Noble have to provide and leave
- 1:06:59for her. Maybe be the same as a testimony
- 1:07:01to this world. Let's pray.
- 1:07:24Well, thank you for making us your bride.
- 1:07:28Thank you. Oh God.
- 1:07:31That as you sent Abigail away with peace.
- 1:07:38So you do with us who are reconciled to Christ in the
- 1:07:41gospel. Well, we pray in this moment.
- 1:07:47That you would renew our vision. Of the goodness of Jesus.
- 1:07:53And we ask, oh, God. That you would give us a fresh
- 1:07:59dose of wisdom. Rewire us.
- 1:08:04Show us where we need to grow. Instill within us.
- 1:08:09A sense of understanding so that we can be prepared.
- 1:08:15With surprises in life. We want to be found as faithful
- 1:08:22ambassadors of Jesus Christ. It's a Lord give us and equip us
- 1:08:27and furnish us with what is necessary so that we would not
- 1:08:30taint that testimony. And we pray O Lord that you
- 1:08:34would receive the Worship You Deserve as a result of what we
- 1:08:38ate today together. We bless you for your goodness,
- 1:08:42through your word. We thank you for how you've
- 1:08:44spoken to our hearts be glorified now as we worship you,
- 1:08:48in Jesus name. Amen.
- 1:08:51Amen. Let's Stand Together.
