- 0:00You have arrived. Welcome to the ASPY world.
- 0:04Here's where we talk about anything and everything ASD in
- 0:07an upbeat and informative way. And now here's your man on the
- 0:11spectrum, your autism Ambassador, Daniel Morgan Jones.
- 0:19So the autism brain is hyper complex and I want to know, do
- 0:23you do this one odd thing? Hey guys, welcome back into the
- 0:26aspy world. My name is Dan and I have autism
- 0:28and ADHD. I make weekly videos all about
- 0:30this stuff. So if you're new around here and
- 0:31you want to learn more, remember to hit the subscribe button.
- 0:33Look like the notification bell down below.
- 0:35Guys, what's going on? I want to talk about the autism
- 0:38brain as something really kind of odd or complexly interesting
- 0:42that I do, and I want to know if you guys do it all that is
- 0:45coming up. Guys, before we move on to the
- 0:47video, I just want to say that I've come across the most
- 0:50amazing app that's going to come to autism right now.
- 0:54This app is called Collage. Now, this is kind of a community
- 0:57dating relationship, friendship kind of app.
- 1:00It's a lot better than some of the other rubbish that's been
- 1:02out before. This app is absolutely ground
- 1:04breaking. I think it's just amazing.
- 1:05Now currently there's a waiting list.
- 1:07If you can jump on that waiting list and you're watching this
- 1:09video, then do it right now. The link is in the description
- 1:11down below and a comment below this video.
- 1:13Go to the card collection website right now and sign up
- 1:16for the waiting list. Or by the time you watch this
- 1:18video actually might be out so you can just go and download the
- 1:20app straight away. It's absolutely amazing.
- 1:22I think this on its own is going to break the mold between
- 1:26creating community or some relationships and friendships.
- 1:28But more than anything, this is very much a verified platform,
- 1:33which is very secure because you don't want some creepy weirdos
- 1:36kind of going on downloading an absolutely.
- 1:39But so the verification and the vetting process is very strict
- 1:42and very secure. It's absolutely amazing and it's
- 1:44a safe place for autistic people to find relationships with
- 1:47friends and also potential intimate relationships.
- 1:50So definitely check out College App right now.
- 1:53The link is down below. You won't be disappointed.
- 1:56Okay, roll the video. Okay.
- 1:57So what is it? What is this one odd thing?
- 1:59So I want to get into it. Let's talk about the autism
- 2:01brain. Now the autism brain is hyper
- 2:03complex. It has many difficulties but it
- 2:05also has many strengths. It can problem solve easier, it
- 2:09can understand complexities quite easier.
- 2:11But also it has difficulties social communication, issues
- 2:15with a language, other types of communication like sensory
- 2:18processing. There's a whole host of things
- 2:20that can happen when you're on the autism spectrum, whatever
- 2:22you have autism combined with ADHD, then there's a lot of
- 2:25things that can kind of really be destructive and kind of
- 2:27really put a span in the works of life.
- 2:29But there are things that you can do to help accommodate
- 2:32those. Now the autism brain is super
- 2:36fast, like hyper fast. My brain is going a bazillion
- 2:39miles per second and I'm trying to keep up with it.
- 2:42A lot of people watching my videos will comment saying, hey
- 2:44done, can you slow down when you talk?
- 2:46Because I can't understand what you're saying.
- 2:47You're talking too fast, blah, blah, blah.
- 2:49This is because my brain is going so fast and trying to keep
- 2:52up with it by all the information that's coming out of
- 2:54my brain to put into my mouth to tell you guys about it.
- 2:56And this is a little bit difficult because having slowed
- 2:58down your brain to talk an acceptable speed is really,
- 3:02really difficult. But it also works the other way
- 3:05around. When I'm listening to
- 3:07television, documentaries, audiobooks, podcasts, you name
- 3:10it, YouTube videos, they're always a little bit slow.
- 3:13I'm like, Oh my goodness, like, it needs to get faster.
- 3:16It needs to be faster. Ha ha.
- 3:17Enter the most interesting thing ever.
- 3:19About three or four years ago, I realized that was a playback
- 3:22speed button on YouTube, on your phone for your audio, podcast,
- 3:26audiobooks, whatever. And I was like, hey, what if I
- 3:29put the books at two times speed?
- 3:32So I change everything to two set speed.
- 3:35What this does is remarkable. There's two things, there's two
- 3:38sets here. One is it speeds up the audio
- 3:40information, another visual information to match the speed
- 3:43of my brain because my brain is going two times faster than the
- 3:45things I'm seeing, hence why I speak fast.
- 3:48But also, I can understand it a lot better and understand those
- 3:50videos a lot better because they're at a faster pace of the
- 3:53second component. Why this is awesome?
- 3:55It's because one of the biggest things that autistic people have
- 3:58is the worry domino, right? And worry domino is when you
- 4:01know you want to learn something, like how to change
- 4:04the windscreen wipers in your car.
- 4:05So you watch a YouTube video, but there's so much bump in it,
- 4:08and it takes such a long time to get to it.
- 4:10You're already worried that the time's taking you to watch how
- 4:13to change some into white, but has then added time onto the
- 4:15rest of your day like a domino, it's it's knocked over something
- 4:17else, and something else is going to be delayed and blah
- 4:19blah blah. So when you're speeding up a
- 4:21video to watch it, not only are you able to understand it
- 4:24better, you also free up the time that it would take you to
- 4:27watch it, which gives you extra time, which frees up some of
- 4:29these dominoes. A lot of autistic individuals
- 4:31struggle with these dominoes. We actually have a free PDF book
- 4:35for Autism Life Hacks. You can go to autismtips.net
- 4:38right now. There is a link in the
- 4:39description if you want to to download my Free Autism Life
- 4:42Hacks book and it helps with things like this.
- 4:44But you know, what's interesting is we're trying to diminish the
- 4:47amount of dominoes we have, increase the amount of dopamine
- 4:51we can access, and really have a more pleasurable, more
- 4:54accessible experience for autistic individuals.
- 4:57Now, this may not work with everybody.
- 4:59I know a lot of people watching my videos and a big thumbs up to
- 5:02you guys. If you are watching videos and
- 5:03you watch about two times speed, please put a comment down below.
- 5:07And like this video said me because I want to know if you're
- 5:10watching my videos at two times speed because I get comments
- 5:12like this quite often. People are watching my videos at
- 5:14two times speed and I'm already talking super fast.
- 5:16Like I already think I'm talking really fast.
- 5:18But also when people say in real life, people say to me like you
- 5:21know, hey Don, can you speak a bit slower?
- 5:23I can't understand you especially my family.
- 5:25It really kind of, it's a bit annoying.
- 5:27It's kind of like they don't respect that.
- 5:29That's how I am. It's kind of like me saying so,
- 5:31well, can you speed up talking? You know, imagine saying
- 5:33something. Hey, you speak at you slow speed
- 5:35up. It's quite rude, isn't it?
- 5:36So to tell someone to slow down when they speak is also super
- 5:38rude. So it's hard to balance that
- 5:41out. And and I tried my best, Jack,
- 5:43you know I am a performing artist out.
- 5:44I'm in a band called Straight Jacket Legends.
- 5:46We have a record out in Japan. We have a record out in the US
- 5:48and you know, I've toured all over the world, play music.
- 5:52And one of the things I get a lot of the time is people say I
- 5:55couldn't assign what you said. You know, you're speaking too
- 5:57fast on on stage and when you're performing or giving keynote
- 6:00speeches, you know, and I do keynote speeches for autism all
- 6:03over the world. You know, I did the first ever
- 6:05autism speech in Vid Con in Anaheim near Los Angeles in 2019
- 6:10with Jess from How to ADHD. Good friend of mine, she took
- 6:13out a book out as well. So go check out her new book.
- 6:15And you know, it's kind of like people come to the keynotes,
- 6:19never say, hey dude, slow down, you're speaking too fast because
- 6:22they get it. There's energy, there's passion.
- 6:24There's like this, this wanting to to get the information out.
- 6:28But I find out some people can't be quite rude with it.
- 6:30And this comes down to another thing where a lot of people
- 6:32dismiss autism. So I use my secret weapon to not
- 6:35only digest stuff, but to kind of feed that feeling you're
- 6:38going. It's OK to speed things up.
- 6:40It's OK to to have things at a faster pace because we're
- 6:44artistic. People like we should be
- 6:45accepted for who we are now. It doesn't work with everything.
- 6:49Some videos, if I speed them up, they are kind of complex in the
- 6:53in how they've been uploaded and it kind of doesn't really flow
- 6:56well most of the time. It does though, because the
- 6:58technology now is so advanced that when you do speed something
- 7:00up, it kind of just speeds it up without breaking the thing.
- 7:03I want to know, is this something you do?
- 7:05And if it isn't something you do, how do you overcome this and
- 7:08do you experience this? A lot of people tell me that
- 7:11they don't experience it, but most autistic individuals tell
- 7:13me they do experience it. I want to know, do you
- 7:15experience it? Do you know?
- 7:16Drop me a comment down below. Let's have a discussion.
- 7:19I read every single comment and I reply to pretty much all of
- 7:22them as much as I can. Now these videos are all to do
- 7:25with autism and ADHD. I have a bunch more videos, so
- 7:28please check out the links in the description down below.
