- 0:02250 years ago, a declaration was read aloud to
- 0:09a waiting world. A declaration that changed history.
- 0:15It spoke of liberty, of equality, of divine truth.
- 0:19It proclaimed that all men are created equal
- 0:22and endowed by their creator with certain unalienable
- 0:27rights. It was not merely a political statement.
- 0:32It was a covenant of faith and freedom. Today,
- 0:38on this 250th anniversary of the United States,
- 0:42Voices of Life invites you to remember, reflect,
- 0:47and rejoice. Join us as we revisit the story
- 0:51of independence, not only as citizens of a nation,
- 0:55but as people guided by providence. And now,
- 1:00your host, Pastor David, leads us through this
- 1:05special Independence Day episode. We the people,
- 1:09the 250th year, a nation under providence. Welcome
- 1:24to Voices of Life, a ministry of the Church for
- 1:26Life. On this day, July 4th, 2026, we celebrate
- 1:31not only the birth of a nation, but the faith
- 1:34that made it possible. Let us begin with Scripture.
- 1:38Psalm 33, verse 12. Blessed is the nation whose
- 1:44God is the Lord. Lord, as we remember the birth
- 1:49of our nation, remind us that liberty is your
- 1:52gift, not our achievement. May this hour... renew
- 1:58our gratitude, and strengthen our resolve to
- 2:02live as people of the faith and freedom. Amen.
- 2:07So let's speak to the origins of Independence
- 2:09Day. The 4th of July was not always a day of
- 2:13fireworks and parades. In 1776, it was a day
- 2:18of courage and conviction. The Continental Congress
- 2:21approved the Declaration of Independence on July
- 2:234th, and the new nation was born in faith and
- 2:27free. Early celebrations were simple. Bells rang,
- 2:32churches prayed, and citizens read the Declaration
- 2:34out loud in town squares. It was a holy moment
- 2:38of gratitude and hope. Galatians 5 verse 1 says,
- 2:43Stand fast, therefore, in the liberty where the
- 2:47Christ hath made us free. Let's speak to the
- 2:50first celebrations. By the 1780s, Independence
- 2:53Day had become a national tradition. Cities held
- 2:57public readings, bands played patriotic tunes,
- 3:00and the churches offered prayers of thanksgiving.
- 3:04The day was not about politics. It was about
- 3:07providence. It was a reminder that freedom was
- 3:10a gift to be stewarded, not a privilege to take
- 3:14for granted. Fifty years after the Declaration
- 3:17of Independence, the nation paused to celebrate
- 3:20its first great jubilee. On July 4, 1826, two
- 3:27of the founders, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson,
- 3:30passed away within hours of each other. Their
- 3:34deaths on the same day were seen as a sign from
- 3:38God, a reminder that he had guided their work
- 3:43and sealed their legacy. Church bells rang across
- 3:47the land. and the citizens wept with gratitude
- 3:50in proverbs 16 verse 9 a man's heart plans his
- 3:55way but the lord directs his steps a century
- 4:00after independence america celebrated its 100th
- 4:03birthday and the great centennial exhibition
- 4:05in philadelphia independence hall stood as the
- 4:09centerpiece and millions visited to see the liberty
- 4:13bell it was a moment of renewed faith In progress
- 4:17and providence, churches held special services,
- 4:20and then the nation gave thanks for the century
- 4:24of freedom. In Psalm 90, verse 17, In 1926, President
- 4:39Calvin Coolidge spoke from Philadelphia on the
- 4:42150th anniversary. He reminded the nation that
- 4:47the Declaration was not a human invention, but
- 4:50a divine truth. He said the founders were great
- 4:54because they believed in something greater than
- 4:56themselves. The celebration was marked by parades,
- 5:01music, and prayer. A nation remembering its spiritual
- 5:06roots. The 200th anniversary, the 1976 Bicentennial.
- 5:13200 years after the Declaration of Independence,
- 5:16America paused for one of the most joyful national
- 5:20celebrations in history, the 1976 Bicentennial.
- 5:25It was a year -long festival of gratitude, remembrance,
- 5:29and renewal. Tall ships filled the harbors. Fireworks
- 5:34lit the skies. Above every major city, churches
- 5:37held special services. Families gathered for
- 5:41parades. concerts, and patriotic displays. President
- 5:45Ford declared the Bicentennial is not the celebration
- 5:49of a document, but of a people, a people who
- 5:53have lived out their meaning of that document.
- 5:57The Bicentennial reminded the nation that liberty
- 6:00is not static, it is a living inheritance, and
- 6:04it is rekindled a sense of unity at a time when
- 6:09America desperately needed healing. I remember
- 6:12growing up in Miami, and they dedicated a park
- 6:17called the Bicentennial Park. It was a beautiful,
- 6:20nice, open park that was formerly some docks.
- 6:25Unfortunately, since that time, they've gone
- 6:27ahead and built a lot of stuff on it. But it
- 6:30was a place for us in time to get together and
- 6:36reflect. And reflection is so important. And
- 6:40I remember that from my childhood, and I'm sure
- 6:42you have your memory of what happened in your
- 6:44state and your city during that time. Psalm 46,
- 6:48verse 1 says, Even in the turbulence of the 1970s,
- 6:58the Bicentennial became a moment of national
- 7:00renewal, a reminder that God had not abandoned
- 7:04the American story. Every generation must decide,
- 7:08what Independence Day means to them. For the
- 7:11founders, it was the declaration of faith and
- 7:13courage. For the 19th century, it was a reminder
- 7:17of unity after war. For the 20th century, it
- 7:21was a celebration of progress and perseverance.
- 7:26For us, in this 250th year, it is a call to remember
- 7:31who we are and whose we are. National memory
- 7:36is not nostalgia. It is stewardship. It is gratitude.
- 7:40It is responsibility. Deuteronomy 8 verse 11
- 7:45says, Beware that you do not forget the Lord
- 7:50your God. When a nation forgets its foundations,
- 7:53it loses its future. But when a nation remembers
- 7:57God, it finds renewal. From the beginning, the
- 8:01American story has been woven with spiritual
- 8:05thread. The Declaration appeals to the laws of
- 8:10nature and nature's God. It speaks of the rights
- 8:15endowed by the Creator. It closes with a firm
- 8:19reliance on the protection of divine providence.
- 8:24These were not accidental phrases. These were
- 8:27convictions. The founders. They believe that
- 8:31liberty without virtue collapses, that freedom
- 8:34without faith decays, that a nation without God
- 8:39cannot endure. And remember, our nation was founded
- 8:43on the Judeo -Christian values. That's what we
- 8:48were founded on. Now, while we freely allow freedom
- 8:51of religion, that does not mean the country has
- 8:54changed. The country still has those Judeo -Christian
- 8:59values. And we have to reflect back to them for
- 9:05that strength, for that vision, and be sure that
- 9:10our future, and we've adored 250 years, is not
- 9:13changed because some people come into the country
- 9:18and think, hey, we've got to change everything.
- 9:22We've got to change this country and make it
- 9:23what our country was. That's not what this was
- 9:26about. That doesn't necessarily mean that everyone
- 9:29has to assimilate everything, but they do have
- 9:33to allow society to continue the way it was shaped
- 9:37and formed. That also doesn't mean that there's
- 9:40not improvements and changes. A lot of good things
- 9:43have happened since the founding. You remember
- 9:45that during the making of the Constitution, the
- 9:50founding fathers struggled with slavery, but
- 9:54slavery worked its way out. It worked its way
- 9:57out, unfortunately, in war, but it did work its
- 10:00way out. So there are things that need to change.
- 10:03They get changed. But nothing changes the foundations.
- 10:08The foundations should always look just the way
- 10:13they were in 1776. Proverbs 14, verse 34. Righteousness
- 10:20exalts the nation. The spiritual thread of independence
- 10:23is not a relic, it is a lifeline of the republic.
- 10:28And again, remember, we have a constitutional
- 10:31republic, not a democracy. Two different things.
- 10:35As we close this first segment, I want you to
- 10:38remember that Independence Day is not merely
- 10:41a date. It is a declaration. A declaration that
- 10:44God is the author of liberty. A declaration that
- 10:47freedom is worth defending. A declaration that
- 10:50providence still guides those who seek him. Let
- 10:53us pray. Lord, Thank you for the gift of liberty
- 10:56and the courage of those who secured it. Thank
- 10:59you for the generations who preserved it. As
- 11:03we enter the 250th year of this nation, renew
- 11:06our hearts, restore our unity, and revive our
- 11:10faith. May America once again be a nation under
- 11:13God. In Jesus' name, amen. Let's look now at
- 11:18Reopening Reflection. We walked already through
- 11:22the birth of liberty and the great anniversaries
- 11:25that shaped our nation's memory. Now, let's turn
- 11:31our hearts toward the legacy of Providence, how
- 11:34God has guided the nation from its founding to
- 11:38this very moment and what it captures. Psalm
- 11:42100 verse 5 says, For the Lord is good, His mercy
- 11:46is everlasting, and His truth endures. to all
- 11:51generations generations have come and gone but
- 11:55god's truth has endured and so has the american
- 11:58story the 150th anniversary the sesquicentennial
- 12:03i'm not going to pronounce that right sesquicentennial
- 12:07sorry came at a time when America was rising
- 12:11in influence and confidence. President Calvin
- 12:15Coolidge stood in Philadelphia and reminded the
- 12:17nation that the Declaration of Independence was
- 12:20rooted in eternal truth, not shifting opinion.
- 12:24He said, if all men are created equal, that it
- 12:27is final. If they are endowed with inalienable
- 12:32rights, that is final. The sesquicentennial was
- 12:37marked by reverence, reflection, and a renewed
- 12:40sense of national purpose. Churches held prayer
- 12:44services. Schools taught the Declaration with
- 12:47fresh enthusiasm. The Liberty Bell became a symbol
- 12:51of unity in a rapidly changing world. James 1
- 12:56verse 17 says, Every good and perfect gift is
- 13:01from above. Freedom is one of those gifts. The
- 13:04Bicentennial was more than a celebration. It
- 13:07was a national revival of gratitude. Millions
- 13:11gathered for parades, concerts, fireworks, dedications.
- 13:14The tall ships sailed into New York Harbor. Patriotic
- 13:18music filled the air. We had Bicentennial coin
- 13:21struck. Families decorated their homes in red,
- 13:25white, and blue. Churches across the nation held
- 13:28special services of thanksgiving. It was a moment
- 13:31when America remembered who she was and why she
- 13:36existed. President Ford said, We celebrate not
- 13:40the completion of America, but the beginning.
- 13:43The Bicentennial reminded us that liberty is
- 13:46a journey, one guided by the hand of providence.
- 13:50Psalm 46 verse 10 says, Be still and know, that
- 13:56i am god even in turbulent times god was still
- 14:00guiding the nation the 225th anniversary 2001
- 14:05that was a quiet milestone not quite celebrated
- 14:09like everything else the 225th anniversary came
- 14:13a year marked both celebration and sorrow because
- 14:18we had the twin towers of terrorist attack in
- 14:22new york And we lost so many people working in
- 14:26the building, first responders, firefighters,
- 14:29police, and others. And that was a time of sorrow
- 14:35because not only did we have to mourn the thousands
- 14:39that died, but we had to change the way we lived.
- 14:43We had to have armed soldiers at airports. We
- 14:50had to create a new Department of Homeland Security
- 14:53to take care of everyday travel so that we didn't
- 14:58have this type of situation come up. So we went
- 15:01through a lot of change. But before the tragedies
- 15:05of September 11th, Americans gathered for concerts,
- 15:07historical reenactments, and patriotic ceremonies.
- 15:11After the attack, Independence Day took on a
- 15:14deeper meaning, a reminder that freedom is fragile
- 15:17and unity is essential. Churches became places
- 15:20of refuge. Communities prayed together. The nation
- 15:24rediscovered its dependence on God. Psalm 34
- 15:28verse 18 says, The Lord is near to the brokenhearted.
- 15:32Even in grief, providence was present. And now,
- 15:36here we stand, the 250th anniversary of the United
- 15:40States of America. A quarter of a millennium.
- 15:44Ten generations. A nation preserved by grace.
- 15:49This year, the celebration is unlike any before
- 15:53it. Across the country, communities are gathering
- 15:56for concerts, reenactments, parades, prayer services.
- 16:00On the National Mall, there's... But the heart
- 16:03of the celebration in Washington, D .C. at the
- 16:07National 250th Anniversary State Fair... is a
- 16:11once -in -a -lifetime gathering of all fifty
- 16:14states and our territories there are historical
- 16:18villages colonial reenactments live readings
- 16:23of the declaration choirs singing patriotic hymns
- 16:26fireworks over the national mall a two hundred
- 16:30fifty year time capsule and a national prayer
- 16:33service for unity and renewal. It is a jubilee,
- 16:37a celebration of liberty, faith, and the enduring
- 16:39hand of providence. But amongst all that celebration,
- 16:43amongst all that patriotic spirit and energy,
- 16:49there's also a sorrow or a dark side to that.
- 16:53You have people that want to destroy our liberty
- 16:56and what our country stands for. People that...
- 16:58happen to be our citizens or naturalized citizens
- 17:01that would come into the country and let's look
- 17:04at the reflection pool by the Lincoln Memorial.
- 17:06They would purposely degregate it, humiliate
- 17:10it, tear it apart, all in the interest of a political
- 17:14statement. Has nothing to do with anything of
- 17:18our pride, our nation's strength, our Nathan's
- 17:22vision. Our nation has the ability to continue
- 17:26to grow. But people that... do those type of
- 17:29acts, have no regard for anyone else, not even
- 17:32themselves. And we pray for them. We pray that
- 17:35God gives them some guidance, strengthens their
- 17:40heart to do the right things instead of the wrong
- 17:44ones. And we hope that God's strength will energize
- 17:49them to go on a path of righteousness, not on
- 17:52a path of destruction. And I think that had to
- 17:55be said. In Scripture, Leviticus 25 verse 10.
- 18:01Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto
- 18:04the inhabitants thereof. The same scripture inscribed
- 18:08on the Liberty Bell now rings across the nation
- 18:12once again. 250 years is not just a number, it
- 18:16is a testimony. A testimony that God preserves
- 18:19nations. A testimony that liberty survives trials.
- 18:23A testimony that faith endures. The founders
- 18:27believed that the American experiment would succeed
- 18:30only if the people remained virtuous and dependent
- 18:35on God. John Adams wrote this, Our Constitution
- 18:40was made only for a moral and religious people.
- 18:46The 250th years calls us back to that truth.
- 18:52And even though we were, again, going back to
- 18:56our Judeo -Christian foundations, we allow people's
- 19:03freedom of religion, even if that religion is
- 19:05atheism, where they don't believe in a God at
- 19:07all. And we pray for those people because we
- 19:12know that their path, is not a path that was
- 19:18originally intended for this country, nor a path
- 19:21that can be fruitful in the long term. I think
- 19:25back to those words again that John Adams wrote,
- 19:27our constitution was made only for a moral and
- 19:30religious people. Well, the 250 year anniversary
- 19:34calls us back to the truth. Proverbs 3 verse
- 19:376 says, in all your ways, acknowledge him and
- 19:41he shall direct your path. A nation that acknowledges
- 19:45God finds direction. A nation that forgets Him
- 19:48loses their way. And I can't help to wonder of
- 19:51those lost souls. I can't help but not to pray
- 19:54for their souls and wish them enlightenment.
- 19:58Well, every anniversary looks backwards, but
- 20:01the 250th also looks forward. What kind of nation
- 20:06will we be in the next 50 years? The next 100
- 20:09years? The next 250 years? The answer? depends
- 20:13on the next generation, on their faith, their
- 20:16courage, their commitment to truth. Independence
- 20:19Day is not only a celebration of the past, it
- 20:22is a commissioning for the future. Psalm 78 verse
- 20:264 says, We will tell the next generation the
- 20:31praiseworthy deeds of the Lord. We must pass
- 20:35on the flame of liberty and the light of faith.
- 20:39As we reflect on 250 years of history, one truth
- 20:42stands above all others. God has been faithful.
- 20:46Through war and peace, prosperity and hardship,
- 20:49unity and division, his hand has guided this
- 20:53nation. Not because we are perfect, not because
- 20:57we are deserving, but because he is merciful.
- 20:59The story of America is the story of providence.
- 21:03Let us pray. Lord, we thank you for the gift
- 21:07of freedom. a freedom purchased by sacrifice,
- 21:12preserved by courage and sustained by your grace.
- 21:15Thank you for the guiding this nation from its
- 21:19birth in 1776 to this 250th year. Thank you for
- 21:24the men and women who stood for truth, who fought
- 21:28for justice, who prayed for peace, and who believed
- 21:32that this land could be a beacon of hope for
- 21:35the world. Today we ask you to renew our hearts,
- 21:39restore our unity, revive our faith. Teach us
- 21:43to walk humbly, to love mercy, and to do justice.
- 21:48May your hand of providence continue to rest
- 21:51upon the United States of America. May we, your
- 21:55people, shine as lights in our homes, our communities,
- 21:58and our nation. Lord, bless America, not because
- 22:02we deserve it, but because we need it. Guide
- 22:05our leaders, strengthen our families, protect
- 22:08our freedoms, and draw our hearts back to you.
- 22:12And now may the Lord bless you and keep you.
- 22:15May the Lord make his face shine upon you and
- 22:19may be gracious to you. May the Lord lift up
- 22:23his continuance upon giving you peace today and
- 22:28in all the days to come. In Jesus' name, amen.
- 22:32As we bring this Independence Day special to
- 22:34a close, let us turn our hearts to the Lord,
- 22:39the author of liberty, the keeper of nations,
- 22:42and the one who has carried America through 250
- 22:47years of triumphs, trials, and transformation.
- 22:53As we celebrate this 250th Independence Day,
- 22:56remember this. Liberty is a gift. Faith is a
- 22:59foundation. And Providence still writes the story
- 23:02of this nation. Thank you for joining us for
- 23:05this special Independence Day edition of Voices
- 23:07of Life. On behalf of the Church for Life, our
- 23:09entire team, and all who labor to bring these
- 23:13stories of faith and history to life. God bless

- 23:19United States of America. This is Pastor David.
