- 0:00Speaker 1: Diplomatic push is underway in Kyiv, Ukraine.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Trump Special Envoy Steve Wyckoff and Jared Kushner just arrived
- 0:06Speaker 2: a short time ago by train in Kyiv for their
- 0:09Speaker 2: first visit to Ukraine as part of a renewed push
- 0:12Speaker 2: from the Trump administration to end Russia's war. Within the
- 0:16Speaker 2: past hour, they were greeted by Ukrainian President Zelensky. His
- 0:19Speaker 2: office posted on social media moments ago that the talks
- 0:23Speaker 2: have now just begun. Just yesterday, Wyckoff and Kushner met
- 0:26Speaker 2: with Vladimir Putin in Moscow for more than three hours.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Criminal officials told The New York Times that those talks were, quote, meaningful, constructive,
- 0:35Speaker 2: extremely frank and, quote, trusting. And in the Middle East,
- 0:39Speaker 2: the fighting with Iran is escalating. The Associated Press reports
- 0:43Speaker 2: Iran is claiming responsibility for an attack on an unmanned U.S.
- 0:46Speaker 2: vessel this morning attempting to enter the Strait of Hormuz.
- 0:50Speaker 2: That comes one day after U.S. forces struck three Iranian
- 0:54Speaker 2: tankers following an Iranian missile attack on two U.S.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Navy warships. All right. The panel is back with us.
- 1:01Speaker 2: We're having a little trouble getting Congressman Jonathan Jackson's fees.
- 1:05Speaker 2: So Miles Taylor and Congressman Susan Wilde are here. Congressman
- 1:10Speaker 2: Woman Wilde, of course, was a member of the Foreign
- 1:12Speaker 2: Relations Committee during her time in office.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Thank you all for sticking with us.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Yesterday, we saw really this past week, the president, the
- 1:20Speaker 2: vice president really tried to downplay what was happening.
- 1:25Speaker 1: And with regard to this conflict. Right.
- 1:27Speaker 2: They're not even calling it a war. President Trump called
- 1:31Speaker 2: it small potatoes. I mean, you were a member of
- 1:35Speaker 2: the foreign relations for this. What's your reaction to that
- 1:37Speaker 2: type of stuff?
- 1:38Speaker 3: And.
- 1:38Speaker 1: You know, how do you think the the family members
- 1:43Speaker 1: of the servicemen and women.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Who lost their lives in this war, how do they feel?
- 1:48Speaker 4: Imagine them hearing that this is small potatoes. I mean,
- 1:53Speaker 4: you just can't even fathom how what would it be?
- 1:57Speaker 5: Stab that is to the heart.
- 1:59Speaker 4: And not to mention the amount of money that we're
- 2:02Speaker 4: spending in Iran, what it's doing to gas prices, what
- 2:06Speaker 4: it just and who knows this these recent strikes on U.S. vessels.
- 2:12Speaker 5: Did we lose more lives?
- 2:14Speaker 1: Do we know?
- 2:14Speaker 5: I mean, we just got that news in.
- 2:16Speaker 3: So.
- 2:17Speaker 4: Are we going to is this just going to be
- 2:18Speaker 4: an ongoing thing? And I don't think there's no exit
- 2:21Speaker 4: strategy whatsoever. So I don't know whether he's diverting to
- 2:25Speaker 4: Ukraine now thinking he can do something there and take
- 2:27Speaker 4: people's minds off.
- 2:29Speaker 5: What strikes me.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Really is the abdication of the responsibility from Ukraine.
- 2:33Speaker 1: House Republicans, Senate Republicans.
- 2:35Speaker 5: Right.
- 2:36Speaker 2: When you are going to commit men and women, U.S.
- 2:40Speaker 2: citizens to combat, to war zones, you owe it to them,
- 2:44Speaker 2: to your constituents to do your due diligence.
- 2:47Speaker 4: Right.
- 2:48Speaker 2: The Congress requires, the Constitution requires the Congress to authorize
- 2:53Speaker 2: a war, Miles. They, the Republican majority in Congress, refuse
- 2:58Speaker 2: to do that. You know, they should have been, in
- 3:00Speaker 2: my opinion, they should have been demanding questions. What is
- 3:03Speaker 2: the objective? What's the strategy? What is the exit plan?
- 3:08Speaker 2: We got none of that from them. And now, fast
- 3:10Speaker 2: forward seven months, we are in a place where they
- 3:13Speaker 2: are reaping the political consequences of their inaction and their
- 3:19Speaker 2: lack of asking and demanding questions and answers on the
- 3:23Speaker 2: front end.
- 3:24Speaker 5: Well, straight talk.
- 3:27Speaker 6: It's an illegal war and. It's not a political talking point.
- 3:30Speaker 6: They're outside of the window of the War Powers Act.
- 3:33Speaker 6: In fact, we got news this week that the Trump
- 3:35Speaker 6: administration was now directing service members to stop calling it
- 3:38Speaker 6: Operation Epic Fury.
- 3:40Speaker 5: Why?
- 3:40Speaker 6: Because Operation Epic Fury is now outside of the scope of.
- 3:44Speaker 1: The War Powers Act.
- 3:45Speaker 6: So if they're calling it that, they're admitting they're continuing
- 3:47Speaker 6: to engage in a war that's beyond the congressional authorization window.
- 3:51Speaker 1: So one, it's an illegal war.
- 3:53Speaker 6: Number two, the situation that we're in right now shows
- 3:58Speaker 6: me that there are not serious people left on the
- 4:01Speaker 6: National Security Council and in these top political jobs in
- 4:04Speaker 6: the administration, if there ever were in a second term.
- 4:07Speaker 6: It was so foreseeable before they went into this conflict
- 4:09Speaker 6: that if they were going to go to war with Iran,
- 4:12Speaker 6: they needed a plan for China and Russia.
- 4:14Speaker 5: What do I mean by that?
- 4:15Speaker 6: Iran was always going to use its great power patrons,
- 4:18Speaker 6: China and Russia, as a backstop, no matter how bad
- 4:21Speaker 6: we pummeled them. This administration went to war anyway, thinking
- 4:24Speaker 6: it would take days or weeks because.
- 4:25Speaker 5: They thought they were just going to war with Iran.
- 4:28Speaker 6: Our adversaries see this as an opportunity to bleed us dry.
- 4:32Speaker 6: You want to go back decades, you see examples of
- 4:34Speaker 6: that throughout American history on both sides of conflicts of
- 4:37Speaker 6: great powers trying to bleed each other dry through proxy conflicts.
- 4:41Speaker 5: It's happening to us now.
- 4:42Speaker 6: And look at the most recent thing the administration tried
- 4:45Speaker 6: to do, economic D-Day. You know who's not scared about
- 4:47Speaker 6: economic D-Day? The Iranians, because they say, guess what? We
- 4:51Speaker 6: got two big rich friends behind us. Until you take
- 4:53Speaker 6: care of them, ain't nothing D-Day for us.
- 4:55Speaker 7: Well, we still haven't even heard of any of the
- 4:57Speaker 7: details of this economic strangulation that Besant promised.
- 5:02Speaker 5: Two weeks ago.
- 5:03Speaker 7: But Congressman, I wonder if you can talk a little
- 5:05Speaker 7: bit more about the interplay between Iran, China, and the
- 5:09Speaker 7: way it connects to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Because Steve Witkoff
- 5:13Speaker 7: and Jared Kushner are the people who are also handling
- 5:15Speaker 7: negotiations for the Iran war. They seem to have diverted
- 5:20Speaker 7: their attention. Do you think that that is connected to
- 5:25Speaker 7: the overall game plan with Iran?
- 5:27Speaker 4: I mean, they're there to conduct these talks, but I
- 5:30Speaker 4: don't think anybody really believes that President Trump is interested
- 5:35Speaker 4: in handing Ukraine a victory.
- 5:37Speaker 7: Right.
- 5:38Speaker 4: By the way, wasn't this a war that he was
- 5:40Speaker 4: going to end on day one, the Ukraine war of
- 5:43Speaker 4: his administration? But so so now we've got the two fronts.
- 5:47Speaker 4: But yes, I think there's a huge connection because they're there.
- 5:51Speaker 4: And they're talking to Putin and there's all kinds of
- 5:55Speaker 4: things going on in Iran. And yes, Russia, China, Iran,
- 6:01Speaker 4: it's all connected. And that is the real fear that
- 6:06Speaker 4: I have, is that both economically, in terms of what
- 6:09Speaker 4: they can do to us trade-wise and otherwise, oil, and
- 6:15Speaker 4: with might, with military might.
- 6:18Speaker 1: We've taken on.
- 6:20Speaker 4: You know, two big superpowers pretending that we're just getting
- 6:25Speaker 4: involved in a little, what, something they won't even call
- 6:28Speaker 4: a war now.
- 6:28Speaker 3: So we were just looking at pictures of Steve Witkoff
- 6:32Speaker 3: and Jared Kushner arriving in Kiev.
- 6:35Speaker 5: The pictures look very serious.
- 6:38Speaker 3: It looks like normal diplomatic relations that we've seen under
- 6:44Speaker 3: Democratic and Republican administrations. And yet what we're talking about
- 6:48Speaker 3: is an administration that is unbelievably unserious about what they're
- 6:56Speaker 3: doing from the president on down. I want to play
- 6:59Speaker 3: the small potatoes comment from the president.
- 7:02Speaker 5: I have more to say on the other side. Watch this.
- 7:04Speaker 4: I'll tell you what, a lot of people don't call
- 7:08Speaker 4: it a war. I call it a military conflict because
- 7:10Speaker 4: it's small potatoes for us.
- 7:12Speaker 1: It's not a big thing.
- 7:15Speaker 5: I mean, that's outrageous to hear.
- 7:19Speaker 3: But it speaks to the the unseriousness with how he
- 7:24Speaker 3: got into all of this. I'll never forget, Jackie, you
- 7:27Speaker 3: remember we were awakened in the middle of the night
- 7:29Speaker 3: because the president of the United States in a big
- 7:33Speaker 3: white hat with USA.
- 7:34Speaker 5: On it announced by video.
- 7:38Speaker 3: That the country was attacked, had launched a war against Iran,
- 7:43Speaker 3: never came to the American people to explain why. what
- 7:47Speaker 3: he was doing, why he was doing it, what the
- 7:49Speaker 3: objectives were, and said it would be all done in
- 7:52Speaker 3: four to six weeks. We are now more than six
- 7:55Speaker 3: months into this. And we, to your point, Congresswoman, we
- 7:58Speaker 3: have no idea what the exit strategy is.
- 8:01Speaker 5: And to your point, Miles.
- 8:04Speaker 3: When we the reporting came out that the generals told
- 8:07Speaker 3: him that, you know, the Iranians could close the Strait
- 8:11Speaker 3: of Hormuz and his reaction was not worried about that.
- 8:14Speaker 5: The regime is going to fall. We'll be fine.
- 8:17Speaker 3: It speaks to a level of unseriousness that they wouldn't
- 8:22Speaker 3: even listen to the generals. And I bring that up
- 8:24Speaker 3: because the Pentagon is now a shell of what it
- 8:26Speaker 3: used to be given.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Just get rid of the generals if we don't like
- 8:29Speaker 4: what they say.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Real fast, real quick, like 30 seconds altogether because I've
- 8:34Speaker 3: chewed up.
- 8:34Speaker 5: All the time.
- 8:34Speaker 4: This is the whole reason for requiring an AUMF from Congress,
- 8:38Speaker 4: an authorization for the use of military force, because these
- 8:41Speaker 4: questions get asked before the AUMF is issued.
- 8:46Speaker 5: We don't have that.
- 8:47Speaker 1: We haven't had that.
- 8:48Speaker 6: And I'll just add, you want to know how bad
- 8:50Speaker 6: it is? Do our allies still think we are the
- 8:53Speaker 6: leader of the free world? Survey came out last month
- 8:55Speaker 6: that showed nine out of 10 of our European allies
- 8:59Speaker 6: no longer see the United States as leader of the
- 9:01Speaker 6: free world. 90 percent.
- 9:03Speaker 5: Bad news.
