- 0:37Speaker 3: Hey we're here, Thanks for being with us on this Thursday.
- 0:41Speaker 3: This portion of the program is brought to you by
- 0:43Speaker 3: Radiant Dentistry. SEC Commissioner Greg Sank has followed an Affi
- 0:49Speaker 3: David in the circuit court in Tuscaloosa arguing against granting
- 0:55Speaker 3: Alabama basketball player Charles Vidiaco collegiate laibility. I respectfully asked
- 1:03Speaker 3: the court to uphold the NCUBLEA eligibility rules challenged in
- 1:08Speaker 3: this case, which are essential to the integrity of college sports,
- 1:13Speaker 3: to the educational mission they serve, and of the opportunities
- 1:17Speaker 3: they provide for current and future student athletes and Sanky
- 1:21Speaker 3: in a four page affi David Bidioco returned to Alabama
- 1:26Speaker 3: last month despite leaving the school three years ago and
- 1:30Speaker 3: playing in the NBA's G League. A hearing is scheduled
- 1:35Speaker 3: at ten thirty tomorrow morning for arguments to determine if
- 1:40Speaker 3: he can continue to play for Alabama through a preliminary
- 1:45Speaker 3: injunction that barred the NCUBLA from enforcing those rules. Meanwhile,
- 1:51Speaker 3: in this amateur athletics, the SEC announcing today that they
- 1:56Speaker 3: have distributed over a billion dollars of reven new to
- 2:00Speaker 3: the sixteen schools. Fourteen of them get the full seventy
- 2:05Speaker 3: two point four million dollars. University of Texas gets twelve million,
- 2:11Speaker 3: Oklahoma two point six million.
- 2:14Speaker 1: As part of their agreement when they entered the conference.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Both of those schools will get full shares next year.
- 2:22Speaker 3: Last night in Tuscaloosa, Charles B. Diaco had just five
- 2:29Speaker 3: points and four rebounds, but Alabama held off Texas A
- 2:34Speaker 3: and M one hundred to ninety seven, an incredible college
- 2:39Speaker 3: basketball game. The Aggie's now seven and two and tied
- 2:43Speaker 3: with Florida for first place in the SEC. The Gators
- 2:47Speaker 3: will be at Reed Arena for a showdown Saturday night
- 2:52Speaker 3: at seven thirty. Only one top twenty team in action tonight,
- 3:00Speaker 3: that is number two Michigan hosting a bad pinned state team.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Last night, Illinois was a forty point winner over Northwestern,
- 3:10Speaker 3: But in case you missed it, late sixth rank Gonzaga
- 3:13Speaker 3: was upset at Portland eighty seven to eighty. Houston knocked
- 3:19Speaker 3: off Central Florida in the Big twelve seventy nine fifty five.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Oklahoma State upset Brigham Young ninety nine to ninety two.
- 3:28Speaker 3: After that Houston demolishing of Central Florida, Kelvin Sampson said
- 3:34Speaker 3: his top ten team cannot sign more recruits because the
- 3:38Speaker 3: athletic department is, in his words, very poor. Said Samson,
- 3:44Speaker 3: we have a very poor athletic department.
- 3:47Speaker 1: We're poor. We were poor when I got here. We'll
- 3:51Speaker 1: still poor.
- 3:52Speaker 3: We probably have the lowest budget of anybody in Power four.
- 3:57Speaker 3: The way our recruiting is going, we have to stop
- 4:00Speaker 3: at some point because we don't have the money to
- 4:03Speaker 3: keep bringing in good players.
- 4:06Speaker 1: It's not easy for us to do.
- 4:09Speaker 3: According to USA Today, Houston was ranked fifty six in
- 4:13Speaker 3: D one athletics with a revenue of seventy eight million dollars.
- 4:19Speaker 3: That's about a third of the University of Texas athletic budget.
- 4:25Speaker 3: The Big Twelve is looking into anti Mormon chance during
- 4:29Speaker 3: the game against Oklahoma State last night. Commissioner Brett Yormark
- 4:35Speaker 3: said in a statement to Sports Illustrated the Big Twelve
- 4:39Speaker 3: Conference is aware of and is investigating reports of inappropriate
- 4:44Speaker 3: chants that occurred during last night's men's basketball game. All
- 4:49Speaker 3: parties have been notified. The conference has zero tolerance for
- 4:53Speaker 3: behavior of this nature and will address the matter in
- 4:57Speaker 3: accordance with Big Twelve sportsmanship policies. BYU coach Kevin Young
- 5:03Speaker 3: after the game, expressed disappointment there were some bleep the
- 5:08Speaker 3: Mormons chants tonight by the student section that I heard.
- 5:12Speaker 3: It was a great win for Oklahoma State. I think
- 5:15Speaker 3: their fans should be proud, but it would be great
- 5:18Speaker 3: if some class was warranted.
- 5:22Speaker 1: LSU has been.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Predicted to win the SEC baseball title. In the annual
- 5:28Speaker 3: coaches poll released today, LSU was picked first, just ahead
- 5:33Speaker 3: of Texas, Mississippi State, and Arkansas.
- 5:37Speaker 1: The Aggies are picked.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Thirteenth in the preseason All SEC Team. Gavin Grahovac First
- 5:47Speaker 3: Team Cayden Serell first team and Clayton Freshcorn second team pitching.
- 5:56Speaker 3: They're playing golf in Phoenix in suburban Phoenix at the
- 6:02Speaker 3: Waste Management Open. Chris Gottarup is the clubhouse leader right now.
- 6:11Speaker 3: I'll try to get a score on Scotti Scheffler. Je
- 6:15Speaker 3: would you get me Scotty Scheffler's score today at the
- 6:19Speaker 3: golf tournament? It wasn't classic Scotti Scheffler today. In case
- 6:25Speaker 3: you're wondering, the forecast for Super Bowl Sunday in Santa Clara,
- 6:30Speaker 3: an expected high of sixty seven degrees could be a
- 6:37Speaker 3: chance of rain at thirty percent, a small chance of thunderstorms,
- 6:42Speaker 3: temperature dropping into the fifties during the game. London Seymour
- 6:49Speaker 3: is a freshman defensive lineman for Georgia. Was arrested on
- 6:53Speaker 3: January twenty ninth and charged with eleven second degree felony
- 6:59Speaker 3: count of property damage. He is the son of Pro
- 7:03Speaker 3: Football Hall of Famer Richard Seymour. Was booked into the
- 7:08Speaker 3: Athens Clark County Jail last Thursday, later released on five
- 7:14Speaker 3: thousand dollars bond. Details are not available. According to the
- 7:20Speaker 3: Athens Benner Herald, the arrest occurred after incidents at Rooker
- 7:25Speaker 3: Hall on George's campus. No comment yet from Kirby Smart
- 7:32Speaker 3: or anybody else at Georgia. The Olympics are underway. They
- 7:37Speaker 3: played women's hockey today and the US women's hockey team,
- 7:42Speaker 3: which is one of the favorites for the gold medal,
- 7:45Speaker 3: beat chesneya five to one. They're slated to play against
- 7:53Speaker 3: Saturday against Finland, Monday against Switzerland, and next Tuesday. Oh
- 8:00Speaker 3: the Hosiers Canada a US and Canada sign me up
- 8:05Speaker 3: for the men's hockey game if US ends up playing Canada,
- 8:11Speaker 3: although Canada pretty much owns the US. I hate saying that.
- 8:15Speaker 3: And in case you, some of you, some of us
- 8:19Speaker 3: needed reasons to feel old. Roger Captain, comeback Captain America,
- 8:30Speaker 3: the Dodger starback turns eighty four years young today. Roger
- 8:39Speaker 3: Freaking Starback is eighty four. In eleven years, he threw
- 8:45Speaker 3: for twenty two thousand yards, led four Super Bowls, two wins,
- 8:50Speaker 3: coined the Hail Mary in the seventy five playoff game
- 8:54Speaker 3: against Minnesota. Captain Comeback is eighty four today. Did I
- 9:02Speaker 3: mention that he used to live around the corner for
- 9:06Speaker 3: me and the Lord tell Us and we'd walk by
- 9:11Speaker 3: his house and there was a park across the street.
- 9:13Speaker 3: We'd go and play football. We were always hoping to
- 9:15Speaker 3: see Roger, and occasionally he would come out and visit,
- 9:20Speaker 3: or you'd run into him at the Burger place down
- 9:23Speaker 3: the street. And Man, I was young, I just thought
- 9:27Speaker 3: that was the coolest thing in the world. He came
- 9:31Speaker 3: and talked to our FCA group in high school. He
- 9:36Speaker 3: was the man Roger Stopbach. Happy birthday eighty four today.
- 9:43Speaker 3: All right, did you ever find Scheffler score yet?
- 9:50Speaker 4: What do you shoot today? What do you shoot? I
- 9:56Speaker 4: think two over.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Seventy three to two over not very good. Good eight
- 10:00Speaker 1: under is leading the tournament. So yeah, he had a
- 10:03Speaker 1: really bad day. Okay, we're going to take a break.
- 10:09Speaker 3: We're gonna hear from Nate Oates, the Alabama coach. We
- 10:14Speaker 3: have got a high school report. We are going to
- 10:16Speaker 3: hear from Bucky. We have the Clark Eisenhower Outdoor Edition
- 10:22Speaker 3: in the second hour. Yes, we have Attacking Animals. It's
- 10:26Speaker 3: been a couple of weeks. We will get to that.
- 10:31Speaker 3: We have a little podcast that Parks and Wildlife is doing,
- 10:37Speaker 3: called better Outside, talking about getting ready or preparing to
- 10:44Speaker 3: go to the Devil's River Wildlife Area, which is probably
- 10:52Speaker 3: the most pristine river and the wildest wildlife area.
- 10:57Speaker 1: In Texas, which is saying something.
- 11:00Speaker 3: It doesn't get hundreds of thousands of visitors because they
- 11:04Speaker 3: have it set up that way, but you can go
- 11:09Speaker 3: and if you're interested in doing that, we're going to
- 11:16Speaker 3: talk to people who will tell you how to get
- 11:18Speaker 3: ready to do that.
- 11:19Speaker 1: So we've got that going on for us, which is nice.
- 11:24Speaker 3: Hi, everybody, we've got visitors here at Brian Broadcasting.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Okay, we'll take a break.
- 11:34Speaker 3: We're going to come back and here from Nate Oates.
- 11:39Speaker 1: We're going to talk a lot of basketball.
- 11:40Speaker 3: That was a phenomenal college basketball game last night. This
- 11:46Speaker 3: portion of the program is brought to you by Chad

- 13:09Speaker 4: SAD, welcome back.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Glad to have you with us here on this Thursday edition.
- 13:25Speaker 1: We've talked about it. We're going to talk about it
- 13:27Speaker 1: some more.
- 13:27Speaker 3: We're gonna hear from Bucky coming up here in about
- 13:30Speaker 3: thirty minutes or so. In his postgame comments from last night,
- 13:34Speaker 3: what a college basketball game in Tuscal loose the last
- 13:37Speaker 3: night unbelievable one ninety seven. I hate ruining such a
- 13:45Speaker 3: great game talking about the officiating. The first half had
- 13:50Speaker 3: terrific flow, to it because there were very few fouls
- 13:52Speaker 3: called the second half. The officials decided they blow a
- 13:56Speaker 3: whistle every time down the court, so the parade of
- 14:01Speaker 3: the free throw line was long. A and M missed
- 14:05Speaker 3: a few more free throws than they had been missing,
- 14:08Speaker 3: and we repeatedly say on the road, you can't do
- 14:11Speaker 3: that in a game like that. Obviously, eight miss free
- 14:17Speaker 3: throws is a huge deal. Alabama missed their share of
- 14:21Speaker 3: free throws as well. Alabama had not been shooting free
- 14:25Speaker 3: throws as well as A and M had. The Aggies
- 14:28Speaker 3: have been really good the last few games especially and
- 14:32Speaker 3: most of the season shooting free throws. Did not like
- 14:37Speaker 3: all the whistles that were blown in the second half
- 14:39Speaker 3: because I thought it interrupted to flow.
- 14:41Speaker 1: The first half was just like NonStop.
- 14:45Speaker 3: But hear me, clearly, the officials did they miss calls, Yeah,
- 14:52Speaker 3: But that wasn't.
- 14:54Speaker 1: The reason the game ended the way it did. It
- 14:57Speaker 1: was just a great game. It was a great game.
- 15:01Speaker 3: It was a game where I knew and what we
- 15:04Speaker 3: talked about. This was a line in the sand game
- 15:07Speaker 3: for Alabama. Natos called it a tipping point.
- 15:11Speaker 1: For our season.
- 15:12Speaker 3: They were four and four in the conference coming off
- 15:14Speaker 3: a horrible loss at Florida. They were at home. They
- 15:20Speaker 3: felt like it was a must win game. It was
- 15:25Speaker 3: played at a high level by both teams. Both teams
- 15:30Speaker 3: just terrific entertaining basketball.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Here is Natos after the game.
- 15:40Speaker 4: All right, guys had a good response to the loss
- 15:43Speaker 4: it Florida. And with all the turnovers we had against Florida,
- 15:46Speaker 4: I thought our guards to a really good job taking
- 15:49Speaker 4: care of the ball and we only ended up with
- 15:51Speaker 4: six turnovers. And look, man, all right, give a and
- 15:54Speaker 4: I'm a lot of credit. They played hard. They they're
- 15:59Speaker 4: a good team. I mean, first place by themselves for
- 16:02Speaker 4: a reason. It's a good team with the good players.
- 16:06Speaker 4: And I think they were averaging fifteen plus turnovers a
- 16:11Speaker 4: game coming into this, so it took a lot of
- 16:14Speaker 4: focus from our guards. I mean, you know, he kind
- 16:18Speaker 4: of go down the list. Mari had six assists, one
- 16:21Speaker 4: turnover the baron coming off the bad game at Florida
- 16:26Speaker 4: with his turnovers, that had no turnovers and when the
- 16:29Speaker 4: pressure he played thirty six minutes with zero turnovers and
- 16:33Speaker 4: three assists. It's pretty big Holloway who has a career
- 16:37Speaker 4: and rebounds tonight. Also, you know, I had four assists
- 16:41Speaker 4: two turnovers and nobody else had more than two, and
- 16:44Speaker 4: thought he did a pretty good job and on the
- 16:46Speaker 4: pressure most of the night himself, right, So let three assists,
- 16:49Speaker 4: one turnover. So I think, when you know, we've been
- 16:52Speaker 4: talking about the possession game, and we have not done
- 16:54Speaker 4: a great job in the possession game most of the year.
- 16:58Speaker 4: Turnovers were even off rebounds plus plus eight, so plus
- 17:03Speaker 4: eight there kind of make up for the fact that
- 17:05Speaker 4: we didn't shoot it particularly well and we missed too
- 17:08Speaker 4: many free throws too. Outside of Aiden Charrell, you know,
- 17:11Speaker 4: we didn't have anybody go one hundred percent of the line.
- 17:14Speaker 4: So I thought, uh, our bigs did a really good job,
- 17:17Speaker 4: between Aid and Charrell and Charles Badiaco keeping a g
- 17:23Speaker 4: if that's pronounced correctly off the glass. I mean, that's
- 17:25Speaker 4: the lowest number of rebounds he's had all year, with
- 17:29Speaker 4: only three rebounds and no offensive rebounds. So I thought
- 17:33Speaker 4: they did a good job there. We did a good
- 17:34Speaker 4: job in a glass. It's just you know, and they
- 17:36Speaker 4: got some shot making from some guys that typically didn't
- 17:39Speaker 4: make shots. I mean, there's five guys that we kind
- 17:42Speaker 4: of had on the weren't on the shooter's list, per
- 17:45Speaker 4: se but that threw in I think what seven threes
- 17:50Speaker 4: combined between the five of those guys, you know, like,
- 17:54Speaker 4: so we got to do a little bit better job
- 17:57Speaker 4: explaining to our guys like they may not have made
- 18:00Speaker 4: many on the year, you know, like ag only made ten,
- 18:04Speaker 4: It only made nine and twenty one games, So these
- 18:07Speaker 4: guys are making less than won every two games or
- 18:11Speaker 4: three games. But you still got to close out. So,
- 18:13Speaker 4: you know, if we'd done a little bit better job
- 18:15Speaker 4: on some of those, I thought we could open it
- 18:17Speaker 4: up a little more, particularly in the first half because
- 18:19Speaker 4: six of those seven came in the first half. But
- 18:22Speaker 4: you know, then our guys stayed with it. I think
- 18:24Speaker 4: we got down six in the second half at one
- 18:26Speaker 4: point we bounced back finished the game on was it
- 18:30Speaker 4: six two run I believe, because they were up on us.
- 18:35Speaker 4: They were up on us with a minute a half
- 18:37Speaker 4: to go, and we had to kind of close the
- 18:38Speaker 4: game there on a run. So I thought we did
- 18:40Speaker 4: a solid job taking care of the ball late when
- 18:43Speaker 4: they really turned their pressure up. You know, had some
- 18:46Speaker 4: iffy ones there, but we we got out of it
- 18:50Speaker 4: with a win, which we needed bad at this point.
- 18:55Speaker 8: Yeah, Aiden and Labaron combined for twenty nine points in
- 18:57Speaker 8: the second half after only having eight in the first
- 18:59Speaker 8: is kind of what was the message to them at
- 19:01Speaker 8: half time.
- 19:03Speaker 4: I didn't really say anything about scoring. We were not
- 19:06Speaker 4: going to talk about scoring this game. We're gonna talk
- 19:10Speaker 4: about our effort, our toughness, and our playing for each other,
- 19:16Speaker 4: our modida if you will. Uh So I just told them,
- 19:21Speaker 4: you know, we got to get more stops. We got
- 19:23Speaker 4: to take away the threes from those guys that maybe
- 19:25Speaker 4: aren't aren't known as shooters. We still got to close out,
- 19:28Speaker 4: even if we're gonna play off them a little more
- 19:31Speaker 4: and they don't have the ball, and just keep focusing
- 19:34Speaker 4: on getting stops and taking care of the ball. And
- 19:36Speaker 4: you know what, I think when those guys focus on
- 19:39Speaker 4: the right stuff like they did the night, and they're
- 19:42Speaker 4: maybe the best best backcourt in the country. So you know,
- 19:46Speaker 4: we need Holloway to keep playing like he did. I mean, shoot,
- 19:48Speaker 4: he dug out some tough rebounds late in that game.
- 19:50Speaker 4: So for him to six rebounds, twenty points, four assists,
- 19:55Speaker 4: that's that's a pretty good game.
- 19:56Speaker 9: I am it just your your bench production today, Guys
- 20:03Speaker 9: like London and Houston, just what did they provide just
- 20:06Speaker 9: that you needed with guys movie struggling in the first half.
- 20:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, we know Houston can shoot. You know,
- 20:13Speaker 4: London can shoot. Those guys combining to go fifty percent,
- 20:17Speaker 4: you know, six out of twelve. I thought that, particularly
- 20:20Speaker 4: in the first half. The a couple of threes by
- 20:22Speaker 4: London were big. Houston's big time effort. Guy, I need
- 20:26Speaker 4: him to stay out of foul trouble so you can
- 20:29Speaker 4: stay in the game a little more. But man, you know,
- 20:32Speaker 4: getting twenty two points out of those two guys and
- 20:35Speaker 4: hitting six threes in a game like this is big.
- 20:37Speaker 4: So you gotta have some shooting off the bench like
- 20:39Speaker 4: we had.
- 20:43Speaker 9: What happened on the technical foul and then kind of
- 20:45Speaker 9: how did you see the team respond after that happened.
- 20:49Speaker 4: I tried to stay away from technicals this year, I have.
- 20:54Speaker 4: I didn't say anything necessarily, but I thought was deserving
- 21:00Speaker 4: of it. But bro, I just said one last comment.
- 21:05Speaker 4: Then I should have just kept my mouth shut. So
- 21:07Speaker 4: I've got on my play card I keep in my pocket.
- 21:09Speaker 4: Here I get Proverbs nineteen eleven. It says the discretion
- 21:14Speaker 4: of a man defers his anger, and it's his glory
- 21:16Speaker 4: to pass over to transgression, So I should have just
- 21:19Speaker 4: passed over the transgression I thought by the referees. But
- 21:23Speaker 4: sometimes I don't pull it out and read it like
- 21:25Speaker 4: I need to so and do a goodenough job. I
- 21:30Speaker 4: think that's only my second one all year, though, so
- 21:33Speaker 4: I know somewhere out there in the Twitter space they
- 21:36Speaker 4: keep tracking my teas and we usually win. I think
- 21:40Speaker 4: the last time I got a tea this year, we
- 21:42Speaker 4: did not win. So I would not have been happy
- 21:45Speaker 4: with myself if we'd have lost this game by one
- 21:47Speaker 4: or two points giving away two free points.
- 21:49Speaker 10: So I want to ask you a couple of questions
- 21:53Speaker 10: about the full court press that y'all saw. Is that
- 21:56Speaker 10: as much press as y'all as you've seen in a
- 21:59Speaker 10: game since you've been in Alabama? One and two? From
- 22:02Speaker 10: a coaching standpoint, are are you happy enough that the
- 22:06Speaker 10: team did a great job of breaking the press without
- 22:09Speaker 10: turning the ball over or or do you also want
- 22:12Speaker 10: to see more easy looks off of that?
- 22:15Speaker 4: Yeah? Great question. One. Yes, that's the most anybody's pressed
- 22:19Speaker 4: us since I've been here that I can remember. I
- 22:21Speaker 4: don't think anybody, I mean, they pressed on every possession
- 22:24Speaker 4: for forty minutes, so nobody that we've played really has
- 22:30Speaker 4: done that. We did a great job taking care of
- 22:33Speaker 4: the ball. We did not do as good a job
- 22:36Speaker 4: getting the quality shots that we'd like to out of it.
- 22:39Speaker 4: You know, it's like forty eight threes, and I don't
- 22:41Speaker 4: mind forty eight threes. I think you guys all know that,
- 22:43Speaker 4: but they need to be forty eight great threes. And
- 22:46Speaker 4: I thought we rushed into a few, took some contested ones,
- 22:50Speaker 4: and I told them I don't want to turn down
- 22:53Speaker 4: open threes, because when you turn down open shots against
- 22:55Speaker 4: team like this, you wanted to turn the ball over later.
- 22:58Speaker 4: But I thought we took a few that weren't open,
- 23:02Speaker 4: and we were looking. I felt like we could get
- 23:04Speaker 4: a paint touch on every possession they didn't. You know,
- 23:07Speaker 4: we could get in the paint a little bit more
- 23:09Speaker 4: and get them in the blender more often, end up
- 23:11Speaker 4: with some more donks files wide open threes. We we
- 23:16Speaker 4: weren't terrible with our shots selection, but it was not
- 23:18Speaker 4: as good as what it needed to be.
- 23:22Speaker 11: That you started out by mentioning just the response from
- 23:25Speaker 11: the team from the Florida game, what maybe changed or
- 23:27Speaker 11: click to go from that to beating the top team
- 23:29Speaker 11: in the sec.
- 23:32Speaker 4: I must say this, our guys stepped up, took some ownership,
- 23:36Speaker 4: some guys in trusted in front of the team. It
- 23:38Speaker 4: was embarrassing at Florida. I think in order to change
- 23:44Speaker 4: some stuff, you got to mit your run. I think
- 23:46Speaker 4: some guys admitted their effort wasn't where it needed to be,
- 23:48Speaker 4: their mind wasn't where it needed to be, and we
- 23:52Speaker 4: got to turn this thing around. So I think it
- 23:54Speaker 4: was more an internal thing. We got to get internal
- 23:57Speaker 4: leadership from the players. I think it's starting starting to
- 23:59Speaker 4: stuck up. The practice we had yesterday was as intensive
- 24:04Speaker 4: practice as we've had since non conference for sure. Like
- 24:09Speaker 4: some guys went at each other, some guys challenged, some
- 24:13Speaker 4: other guys thought it was great, and then we kind
- 24:16Speaker 4: of we we we did more live stuff, kind of
- 24:20Speaker 4: good on good first and we kind of mixed the guys.
- 24:23Speaker 4: It wasn't first team second team necessarily. You know, we
- 24:26Speaker 4: had Mari and LeBaron going at it. You know, you
- 24:30Speaker 4: didn't have everybody. And then when we got together at
- 24:33Speaker 4: the end of practice and kind of went against our
- 24:35Speaker 4: scout team, thought they did a really good job pulling
- 24:38Speaker 4: pulling themselves together, realizing we are on the same team.
- 24:41Speaker 4: We're challenge each other in practice to make each other better,
- 24:44Speaker 4: and then we got to pull together and be on
- 24:46Speaker 4: the same team, and we uh when we played together,
- 24:49Speaker 4: and I thought we were a lot better that way
- 24:51Speaker 4: tonight and competed a lot harder.
- 24:54Speaker 12: Coach got on that same theme with a response and accountability.
- 24:59Speaker 4: We saw. We saw it.
- 25:00Speaker 12: Take a Martin before the game, get really excited, get
- 25:02Speaker 12: really animated in the huddle, and then the same thing
- 25:05Speaker 12: after the three pointer, to tide to go in the
- 25:07Speaker 12: locker room, just getting into everybody's face and keeping that
- 25:09Speaker 12: energy very high. What is his role being in the
- 25:12Speaker 12: response and was his role being kind of on the team?
- 25:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I was not out there. I heard he did
- 25:17Speaker 4: her pretty good job getting everybody fired up. Didn't know
- 25:22Speaker 4: he had all that in him. He plays hard, he's smart,
- 25:24Speaker 4: he's passionate. He he comes to work every day and
- 25:29Speaker 4: he does a really good job on our scout team
- 25:31Speaker 4: and making our bigs better. And I liked it. I mean, shoot,
- 25:36Speaker 4: I need to get a video Ivan. I haven't seen it.
- 25:37Speaker 4: I heard from a couple of the assistants, the players
- 25:41Speaker 4: talked about it, and then I got to do radio
- 25:44Speaker 4: at halftime, so I guess I didn't get to see
- 25:46Speaker 4: us halftime celebration, but I'll say this, the things Jacob's about,
- 25:52Speaker 4: the stuff we got to be about playing hard, toughness,
- 25:56Speaker 4: you know, rebounding, blue collar. So the play in that
- 26:00Speaker 4: half was a offensive rebound tip by Houston that led
- 26:04Speaker 4: to a three, which ends up being a game winning play.
- 26:08Speaker 4: I mean, it's a one possession game. We needed those
- 26:10Speaker 4: three points in a bad way. That tied it at
- 26:12Speaker 4: the half. So I love the fact he celebrated that
- 26:15Speaker 4: like it was the best dunk you've ever seen, because
- 26:18Speaker 4: we got to make this thing more about effort, blue collar,
- 26:21Speaker 4: tough plays like that.
- 26:25Speaker 2: After the back to back dunks by Texas A and
- 26:27Speaker 2: M in the first half, it seemed like you gave
- 26:29Speaker 2: Charles Betty Gaco a little bit of an earful after
- 26:31Speaker 2: he checked out.
- 26:32Speaker 13: How do you feel like he responded to that moving forward?
- 26:35Speaker 4: Charles been coached by me before. Charles knows who's gonna
- 26:40Speaker 4: intends the level he's got to bring. Maybe they don't
- 26:45Speaker 4: coach like that in the G League. I don't know,
- 26:48Speaker 4: but he got get up and make a play. He's
- 26:51Speaker 4: in there, first shot block and he can't just watch
- 26:53Speaker 4: the guy run by him and get dunks. I love Charles,
- 26:56Speaker 4: super happy's here. Our players love him. He's like the
- 26:59Speaker 4: best teammate ever. But that doesn't mean you can't coach
- 27:02Speaker 4: him and challenge him. Every every good player wants to
- 27:04Speaker 4: be coach art and Charles is no different.
- 27:09Speaker 14: Some big offensive buckets late Latrell rights in the corner,
- 27:13Speaker 14: and then that Holloway circus shot. We knew he could
- 27:16Speaker 14: shoot the three from when he was at Auburn, but
- 27:17Speaker 14: just how much better has he gotten at the rim?
- 27:19Speaker 14: And then your take on that crazy shot at the
- 27:22Speaker 14: end of the game.
- 27:24Speaker 4: Yeah, So obviously Rightzell hits big shots. I think he's
- 27:28Speaker 4: been one of our best big shot maker in the
- 27:32Speaker 4: games he's played since he's been here. I can go
- 27:34Speaker 4: through a number of games where he's hit clutch shots
- 27:37Speaker 4: late in games to seal the lead, give us a
- 27:40Speaker 4: lead like it did tonight, put us you know, put
- 27:44Speaker 4: us ahead. So no surprise from Rightzel. Super happy for him.
- 27:48Speaker 4: He's been one of our leaders, stepping up to try
- 27:51Speaker 4: to make this about the right stuff. So yeah, it
- 27:55Speaker 4: was great. I mean, you know, and he goes four
- 27:57Speaker 4: for eleven, it's not seven for ten like he was
- 27:59Speaker 4: as Missouri. But it's it's good. I mean it's you know,
- 28:03Speaker 4: over thirty three percent, and we needed all four of
- 28:06Speaker 4: those threes he made. And then you know, al Alway
- 28:09Speaker 4: is one of the best shooters I've ever coached. But
- 28:12Speaker 4: he didn't shoot it great from three tonight. But he's
- 28:14Speaker 4: really gotten a lot stronger. He's worked hard since he's
- 28:16Speaker 4: been here. He's gotten with uh Henry our strength. Matter
- 28:19Speaker 4: of fact, all the guys are lifting right now, so
- 28:22Speaker 4: he's working on his body. He's gotten a lot stronger.
- 28:26Speaker 4: You know, a man there, Dietitian's gotten him, uh, you know,
- 28:29Speaker 4: beefed up. He waves a lot more. I think he
- 28:31Speaker 4: can use it and get downhill. You know, he's crafty finisher,
- 28:35Speaker 4: but I think he's gotten stronger to where he can
- 28:37Speaker 4: take some contact and shoot.
- 28:40Speaker 14: That was a.
- 28:42Speaker 4: Disastrous uh sat In hindsight, I probably should have called
- 28:46Speaker 4: the time out when it wasn't going well.
- 28:48Speaker 6: Uh.
- 28:49Speaker 4: They didn't really get in the action I want him to.
- 28:51Speaker 4: And most of the time, it's a lot better to
- 28:55Speaker 4: have great players and is a great place, and we
- 28:58Speaker 4: certainly do have a great play that possession. But we
- 29:00Speaker 4: had great players and great player when made great play
- 29:04Speaker 4: and it's a lot better to have great players and
- 29:06Speaker 4: to they have good place.
- 29:07Speaker 3: All right, that's the Alabama coach post game. We're gonna
- 29:09Speaker 3: hear from Bucket coming up here after the high school

- 32:39Speaker 8: Welcome into the High School Report. I'm Caleb Rapley, and
- 32:42Speaker 8: today we're jumping out to the Player's Fund Center phone
- 32:44Speaker 8: line to talk to the head coach of the Navasota
- 32:46Speaker 8: Ratlers girls basketball team, mister Tommy Gates coach, Thanks for joining.
- 32:50Speaker 22: Me, absolutely, Cayle. I've enjoyed having an opportunity to talk
- 32:54Speaker 22: about our teams.
- 32:55Speaker 8: Yes, sir, your lady, Ratler's having a really good season
- 32:58Speaker 8: twenty three and twelve, seven to one in district play.
- 33:01Speaker 8: So I believe that playoff spot is locked up.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Is that correct?
- 33:05Speaker 22: That is correct. We actually clinched last Friday, so we
- 33:09Speaker 22: do have a playoff spot for the twenty third consecutive season.
- 33:15Speaker 8: Well, congratulations on that. I know that's pretty uncommon in
- 33:18Speaker 8: today's landscape of the sporting world to be that consistent.
- 33:23Speaker 8: What would you say, are one of the things that
- 33:25Speaker 8: has given you the ability to have the same program,
- 33:28Speaker 8: the same mentality year after year.
- 33:31Speaker 22: Well, you know, and probably the same reason that we've
- 33:35Speaker 22: I've been able to win a bunch of basketball games
- 33:38Speaker 22: during my career. We you know, I've been very fortunate
- 33:41Speaker 22: to have one assistant coach that's been with me the
- 33:45Speaker 22: entire time that I've been here in Apnsota, which is
- 33:47Speaker 22: twenty eight years. I've got another assistant that's been with
- 33:51Speaker 22: me for nine and so I think consistency on the
- 33:56Speaker 22: staff has been big. But you know, when you're a
- 34:00Speaker 22: place as long as I've been here, now I'm starting
- 34:04Speaker 22: to coach kids of former players, uh and so when
- 34:10Speaker 22: you you know these I've got five players on this
- 34:13Speaker 22: year's team that I coached their mothers. Uh. And so
- 34:17Speaker 22: so when you when you when you get that opportunity,
- 34:21Speaker 22: you know, the they come in kind of with the expectations.
- 34:24Speaker 22: Their moms have told them the stories, you know.
- 34:28Speaker 4: Uh.
- 34:28Speaker 22: And then they've kind of grown up over the last
- 34:31Speaker 22: you know, eight or ten years coming to basketball games
- 34:34Speaker 22: and seeing it and wanting to be a part of this.
- 34:37Speaker 22: Uh and so being being a part of the girls
- 34:40Speaker 22: basketball team in the episode, it's special and uh. And
- 34:43Speaker 22: so the kids kind of buy into what we're doing
- 34:46Speaker 22: and and and I really think, I just think consistency
- 34:50Speaker 22: and just you know, the the culture that we've built here,
- 34:55Speaker 22: it it just kind of has withstood the test of time.
- 34:59Speaker 8: So since the new or, y'all only have one loss
- 35:02Speaker 8: in district play that was to Lagrange fifty one to
- 35:04Speaker 8: forty nine. So it's been a really solid district stretch
- 35:08Speaker 8: of games here for y'all getting the win over Bellville
- 35:10Speaker 8: on Tuesday fifty one to twenty two, and then tomorrow
- 35:12Speaker 8: night last home game I believe, against Smithville. So what
- 35:16Speaker 8: are your thoughts on that game?
- 35:18Speaker 22: Well, it's, uh, you know, we always battle with Smithville.
- 35:21Speaker 22: They're the defending district champion from last year and they've
- 35:26Speaker 22: got the district MVP from last year who's a senior
- 35:31Speaker 22: point guard. And we were able to go on the
- 35:34Speaker 22: road and get a six point win there, so we're
- 35:38Speaker 22: expecting a big, big battle. It really doesn't mean anything
- 35:42Speaker 22: to them. It's kind of a point not a pointless game.
- 35:46Speaker 22: But I mean they're going to come in here try
- 35:48Speaker 22: to win. But for us, if we can, if we
- 35:51Speaker 22: can get by them, then we run. In our last
- 35:53Speaker 22: game next Tuesday, we'll be on the road against Lagrange
- 35:58Speaker 22: and that will be for the district championship. If we
- 36:00Speaker 22: win it, we'll we'll be coach champions. If they beat us,
- 36:04Speaker 22: they're the outright champions. So uh so it means a
- 36:07Speaker 22: lot more proudly to us.
- 36:09Speaker 4: Uh.
- 36:09Speaker 22: Lagrange has already beaten Smithfield twice, so even if Lagrange
- 36:14Speaker 22: was to lose the next two, they'd owned the tiebreaker
- 36:17Speaker 22: with them. So you know, but we're expecting a big,
- 36:20Speaker 22: big game tomorrow with Smithfield again, it's senior night. Rihanna Rush,
- 36:25Speaker 22: who's a four year letterman. She's just our tenth all
- 36:28Speaker 22: time leading scorer. She'll be playing her last game. And
- 36:32Speaker 22: then Dekayah Blue who is also she's a three year
- 36:36Speaker 22: letter winner and she's in an episode of Record Book
- 36:40Speaker 22: in three or four categories assist, steals, in block shots. So,
- 36:44Speaker 22: you know, playing your last game, it kind of hits
- 36:48Speaker 22: them that you're playing your last game on this floor,
- 36:51Speaker 22: that that they've played so many games on. Uh. So
- 36:55Speaker 22: it'll be an emotional night and uh and hopefully a
- 36:57Speaker 22: good night.
- 36:58Speaker 8: And we mentioned it Couardi clinched that playoff spot. So
- 37:01Speaker 8: have you started looking at what teams are gonna might
- 37:03Speaker 8: be matching up against?
- 37:04Speaker 22: Yeah, unfortunately, and you know last year UIL came in
- 37:08Speaker 22: with this big school small school and so we're the
- 37:12Speaker 22: big school and regardless of how we finish in the
- 37:16Speaker 22: district race, will be the number one seed from big
- 37:20Speaker 22: school Lagrange and Smithville will be one and two in
- 37:25Speaker 22: small school. And then it was the winner of actually
- 37:29Speaker 22: tomorrow's game with Gettings and Bellville the winner of that
- 37:32Speaker 22: will be the second seed in big school. So we
- 37:37Speaker 22: do know that that we're the number one seed. We
- 37:43Speaker 22: know we're going to play District twenty one, and that
- 37:47Speaker 22: district is kind of still kind of jobbled. It won't
- 37:50Speaker 22: be really decided until tomorrow, but right now it's looking
- 37:54Speaker 22: like it will either be Fort ben Crawford or Fort Worth.
- 37:59Speaker 22: I meant in will A Ridge, which is exactly how
- 38:03Speaker 22: it was this time last year, And so after Tamara's games,
- 38:07Speaker 22: we'll have an idea of who it's gonna be and
- 38:11Speaker 22: then we'll that game would be I believe, either February
- 38:15Speaker 22: sixteenth or seventeenth, which is just like a little over
- 38:19Speaker 22: a week, so it's here fast.
- 38:22Speaker 8: Earlier this week, UIL came out with their realignment pretty
- 38:26Speaker 8: similar district for y'all. It is going to grow from
- 38:30Speaker 8: six teams to eight next year, and it'll be District
- 38:33Speaker 8: twenty three instead of twenty two. Some of the same
- 38:35Speaker 8: teams with Belleville, Gettings and Lagrange, but a few new
- 38:38Speaker 8: ones with Katie Harmony, Royal Sealy and Tomball West. So
- 38:42Speaker 8: have you had a chance to look at that reclassification
- 38:45Speaker 8: and how that might impact next year?
- 38:48Speaker 22: Not really, I say that. I mean, we always look,
- 38:52Speaker 22: you know, it means a lot. You know, obviously, everything
- 38:55Speaker 22: that UIL does, it's kind of like the NC DOUBLEA.
- 38:57Speaker 22: Everything they do is kind of geared around football. All
- 39:00Speaker 22: we haven't even started basketball playoffs, baseball softball that hasn't
- 39:04Speaker 22: you know, even started their seasons, and we're already worried
- 39:08Speaker 22: about next year. And I know why they do it,
- 39:10Speaker 22: and I get that, but uh, you know, we're trying
- 39:13Speaker 22: to we're trying to finish out this year. But uh,
- 39:16Speaker 22: in answer to your question, you know, it's it changes
- 39:21Speaker 22: a lot because we, like you said, we go from
- 39:24Speaker 22: a sixteen district to an eighteen district. So that's four
- 39:27Speaker 22: more district games, so we'll be playing district games before Christmas,
- 39:32Speaker 22: where this year we don't play any before Christmas, so
- 39:35Speaker 22: you'll you'll lose four non district games. So it changes
- 39:41Speaker 22: stuff up. And I'll be honest, I've been in a
- 39:45Speaker 22: seventeen district before, but I don't know that I've ever
- 39:48Speaker 22: been in an eighteen district. So this will be uh,
- 39:51Speaker 22: this will be interesting. And you know, if you're trying
- 39:53Speaker 22: to make the playoffs, we're in the district we're in now,
- 39:56Speaker 22: you just have to beat two teams to get in
- 40:00Speaker 22: next year, and the year after that you're gonna have
- 40:02Speaker 22: to beat four teams. So it definitely makes it tougher.
- 40:06Speaker 4: Uh.
- 40:07Speaker 22: And you know, we've been in the district before with
- 40:09Speaker 22: Sea Lee, so we're familiar with them. Katie Harmony, I
- 40:12Speaker 22: don't know anything about them. And then of course tom
- 40:15Speaker 22: Ball West is a new school and they'll come in
- 40:18Speaker 22: next year with you know, just freshman sophomores. But we've
- 40:23Speaker 22: you know, I've been here when Brian Rutter opened and
- 40:27Speaker 22: they were in our district for four years and they
- 40:29Speaker 22: came in with freshmen and sophomores, and the year that
- 40:34Speaker 22: they were juniors, they were number two in the state. So, uh,
- 40:39Speaker 22: you just never the new schools when they open up,
- 40:42Speaker 22: you just you you don't you really don't know until
- 40:46Speaker 22: you play them, you know what kind of players they have,
- 40:48Speaker 22: and uh, you know where they're coming from, and so
- 40:52Speaker 22: it will be it'll be quite interesting.
- 40:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 40:55Speaker 8: I think it was about seven years ago. Uh, Shadow
- 40:57Speaker 8: Creek opened up and they ended up winning the state
- 40:59Speaker 8: champ and ship and football about two or three years in.
- 41:02Speaker 8: So you really can't ever.
- 41:03Speaker 22: Tell now because you don't know where you know, those
- 41:05Speaker 22: big school districts, you don't know where they're where they're
- 41:08Speaker 22: you know, they have like I know, I remember when
- 41:10Speaker 22: Brian Rutterer opened, they had open enrollment, so anybody who
- 41:15Speaker 22: was in the Brian I s D and wanted to
- 41:16Speaker 22: go to Rudder they could go. And so they you know.
- 41:19Speaker 22: So so I don't know, like say with tomballa I SD,
- 41:23Speaker 22: whether they'll be coming from Memorial or whether it come
- 41:26Speaker 22: from Tomball High School. But both of their women's basketball
- 41:30Speaker 22: programs are very solid, very sound, uh and so they'll
- 41:33Speaker 22: they'll regardless of age, they'll be very talented. So it'll
- 41:38Speaker 22: be uh, it'll be interesting. And then Royal is the
- 41:41Speaker 22: other team. Uh and they were in our district uh
- 41:44Speaker 22: four years ago.
- 41:46Speaker 4: Uh and.
- 41:48Speaker 22: They won our district two of the four two of
- 41:51Speaker 22: the four years that they were in our district, and
- 41:53Speaker 22: we tied with them one of the years.
- 41:56Speaker 4: Uh.
- 41:57Speaker 22: They they have a player that's playing at the University
- 41:59Speaker 22: of Houston right now. So again because of their location
- 42:03Speaker 22: close to Katie, you just never know what schools like
- 42:07Speaker 22: that are going to bring in here.
- 42:08Speaker 8: Coach, that's all the questions I've got for you today.
- 42:11Speaker 8: Thanks for joining me, and we wish your team luck
- 42:13Speaker 8: throughout the rest of the season.

- 45:43Speaker 1: Welcome back Glad to have you with us here on
- 45:45Speaker 1: a Thursday edition and Tomorrow night no Saturday night Porta
- 45:56Speaker 1: Gators are in town.
- 45:58Speaker 3: They will have had the benefit of a week off
- 46:01Speaker 3: almost a week they hosted Alabama this past Sunday did
- 46:05Speaker 3: not have a midweek game.
- 46:08Speaker 1: Come in now tied with A and M for first place.
- 46:11Speaker 3: This will be the battle for first This will be
- 46:14Speaker 3: the start of the second half of the conference race.
- 46:18Speaker 3: Florida playing great basketball, looking like a team that can
- 46:25Speaker 3: make another deep run.
- 46:28Speaker 1: They are huge.
- 46:30Speaker 3: That has not stopped A and M at all this year,
- 46:36Speaker 3: and just so much fun watching this team play and
- 46:40Speaker 3: how they play, the style with which they play, the
- 46:45Speaker 3: passion with which they play.
- 46:48Speaker 1: It is it's fun to see. Not perfect, but.
- 46:55Speaker 3: Man, if you didn't like last night's game, I know
- 46:59Speaker 3: you didn't like the I get that. But if you
- 47:01Speaker 3: didn't like last night's game, I can't help you. It
- 47:05Speaker 3: was everything that's great about college basketball. The official attendance
- 47:11Speaker 3: last night was thirteen four seventy four. There were quite
- 47:15Speaker 3: a few empty seats. The people had jumped off the
- 47:18Speaker 3: Alabama bandwagon and it was but I mean, obviously it
- 47:29Speaker 3: got loud towards the end. Alabama had some amazing shots.
- 47:33Speaker 1: It's what they do.
- 47:36Speaker 3: By the way, The Alabama Florida game last Sunday most
- 47:40Speaker 3: watched men's college basketball game on ABC since nine in
- 47:48Speaker 3: seventeen years. One point six million viewers. The Kentucky Arkansas
- 47:56Speaker 3: game Saturday almost two and an half million. ESPN's most
- 48:02Speaker 3: watched college game this year, So there's lots of interest.
- 48:07Speaker 3: There's some big games on Saturday, the A M. Florida
- 48:11Speaker 3: games at seven point thirty. The Duke North Carolina game
- 48:15Speaker 3: starts at five thirty. There are other games going on,
- 48:22Speaker 3: but I think there'll be a lot of eyeballs turned
- 48:26Speaker 3: to Florida and A and M and should be sold out.
- 48:31Speaker 3: I say, should be sold out Saturday night, all right.
- 48:36Speaker 3: I'm gonna hear it from Bucky, who went home to Alabama,
- 48:40Speaker 3: had a lot of familiar faces in the stands. Talked
- 48:43Speaker 3: to the local media after the game last night.
- 48:49Speaker 17: A good game, man, that's a good game for the fans. Obviously,
- 48:52Speaker 17: when two teams sneelers score one hundred and there's a
- 48:54Speaker 17: shot at the end of the game to send a
- 48:57Speaker 17: game into overtime, and there's a scrap underneath through the
- 49:01Speaker 17: ball could have cane either way. If we pick it up,
- 49:03Speaker 17: lay it up, we take the lead. So you know,
- 49:05Speaker 17: when you have a game like that, it's a treat
- 49:07Speaker 17: for the fans. I'm obviously from Alabama, and I like
- 49:11Speaker 17: when you get to see good basketball. So if you
- 49:13Speaker 17: would uh said years ago, you get to see two
- 49:15Speaker 17: teams play in a scrap in a one possession games
- 49:18Speaker 17: and both teams only score two hundred points, everybody would say, man,
- 49:21Speaker 17: when I sign up to get to watch that. So
- 49:23Speaker 17: I was glad that the game delivered to that. Obviously,
- 49:26Speaker 17: I wanted to come out on the right side of
- 49:27Speaker 17: that game of Alabama was really good. Some of their
- 49:29Speaker 17: guards made some really big shots late in that game,
- 49:33Speaker 17: you know, and played well. Ours played well too, So
- 49:36Speaker 17: that's why the game could have absolutely gone either way.
- 49:38Speaker 17: And you know, we just got to keep trucking along.
- 49:41Speaker 17: I told our players in the locker room, it's tough
- 49:45Speaker 17: that we didn't come out on the right side of it.
- 49:47Speaker 17: But at the end of the day, we're halfway through
- 49:49Speaker 17: the league, we're in first place of the league. We
- 49:52Speaker 17: have five of our remaining nine games at home. If
- 49:55Speaker 17: I would have said that before the seed and we
- 49:57Speaker 17: got to optune to go to soul possession in first
- 49:59Speaker 17: place here on Saturday. So if I would have said, hey,
- 50:04Speaker 17: for sec play started, you know, what do you think
- 50:08Speaker 17: would you sign up for that? We would say we'd sign.
- 50:11Speaker 4: Up for that.
- 50:12Speaker 17: You know, we have signed up for that. So we
- 50:14Speaker 17: got to move on from this one and realize the
- 50:17Speaker 17: opportunity that's in front in front of us.
- 50:24Speaker 10: I wanted to ask you about the full court pressure.
- 50:27Speaker 10: It seemed like Alabama did a good job and not
- 50:28Speaker 10: turning it over. Also seemed like y'all did a pretty
- 50:30Speaker 10: good job of making sure they didn't get any easy
- 50:32Speaker 10: looks breaking away.
- 50:34Speaker 17: What were your thoughts on it? It's good, I mean
- 50:39Speaker 17: that was our best defense in the game. When we
- 50:42Speaker 17: just looked at some of the analytics of it, they
- 50:44Speaker 17: missed some threes, you know, against it. But you know,
- 50:50Speaker 17: I think that's when it's a treat for the fans
- 50:51Speaker 17: where they're both comfort their comfortabrolling, we're comfortabrolling, you know
- 50:54Speaker 17: what I'm saying. So you know, our problems was the
- 50:57Speaker 17: second half and the half court on d they got going.
- 50:59Speaker 17: We couldn't keep them out of the paint. But full
- 51:02Speaker 17: court I was okay with the way the way that
- 51:04Speaker 17: the game was going and they were probably okay as well,
- 51:06Speaker 17: and that's why it was a fun game.
- 51:09Speaker 13: Coach, I wanted to ask you about you guys game plan.
- 51:12Speaker 13: You guys did a great job back cutting and getting
- 51:13Speaker 13: your guards downhill for just about the entire second half.
- 51:17Speaker 17: Was that something you guys saw on film and playing
- 51:19Speaker 17: and game plan?
- 51:20Speaker 13: And then I wanted to ask you about the impact
- 51:22Speaker 13: of a young man from my city that I've watched
- 51:24Speaker 13: grow up, Jakari Lane, getting a chance to play for
- 51:27Speaker 13: you and play on the biggest stage in college basketball,
- 51:29Speaker 13: and what kind of impact he's made in the squad.
- 51:31Speaker 17: Yeah, good question. We're gonna take what the defense gives us.
- 51:35Speaker 17: You know, if their top lock, and we got to
- 51:36Speaker 17: take advantage of their top locks, and you know whatever
- 51:39Speaker 17: that calls for. You know, if they want to play
- 51:41Speaker 17: between ball and the rim, we got to go get
- 51:42Speaker 17: the handcuts and come off wide pen So, you know,
- 51:45Speaker 17: whatever the defense, it's an offensive game. I mean, if
- 51:49Speaker 17: you make the right read, the defenses should be at
- 51:52Speaker 17: the offenses. Mercy, we missed a couple of those that
- 51:56Speaker 17: that that we were right there at the rim, and
- 51:59Speaker 17: you know, we just gotta we got to finished shows.
- 52:00Speaker 17: We didn't finish great at the rim. Uh Jakari Lane's
- 52:03Speaker 17: a winner, you know, in every way. Usually he's the
- 52:06Speaker 17: best guard on the floor, our most valuable guard on
- 52:09Speaker 17: the floor to their team. I don't you know, I
- 52:11Speaker 17: don't know what he's shot. I don't care if he scored,
- 52:14Speaker 17: I don't know. He's just a complete winner, and he's
- 52:17Speaker 17: the kind of player you can ride with, kind of
- 52:19Speaker 17: player you can get the n State tournament with and
- 52:21Speaker 17: do something with because he's got a heart and he's
- 52:23Speaker 17: got character, and you know, when things are going good,
- 52:27Speaker 17: he's steady. When things are going bad, he's steady, and
- 52:30Speaker 17: he's just done that. He was a state champion in
- 52:32Speaker 17: high school, state champion, UH conference champion before he came
- 52:35Speaker 17: here at UNA, and right now we're pursuing a conference
- 52:38Speaker 17: championship right now with him as our starting point guard.
- 52:43Speaker 23: Bucky a well coached game by both sides.
- 52:46Speaker 14: You mentioned this in your opening remarks, But what do
- 52:49Speaker 14: you credit this great start for so far for you guys?
- 52:54Speaker 17: You know, I mean I think that we we got
- 52:58Speaker 17: the We got good people in our locker room. We
- 53:01Speaker 17: don't lose sight of the main thing, which is playing
- 53:03Speaker 17: hard to unselfish. We have depth. Even though we have
- 53:09Speaker 17: no returners from last year's team, you know, we do
- 53:13Speaker 17: have some older guys in there, and they're a true
- 53:16Speaker 17: team in every regard they're they're not worried about so
- 53:20Speaker 17: much about like, hey, did I get my points? What
- 53:22Speaker 17: does my AU coach think? What does this guy think?
- 53:25Speaker 17: You know, they're about winning and when you do that,
- 53:28Speaker 17: and particular this day and age of college athletics, regardless
- 53:31Speaker 17: if there's a size gap, a talent gap, that could
- 53:34Speaker 17: happen every now and then, I'll take our side if
- 53:37Speaker 17: we keep playing that way.
- 53:40Speaker 10: Bucky, what kind of emotions ran through you tonight coming home?
- 53:45Speaker 8: You've been in this building and come up very close before,
- 53:48Speaker 8: seeing so many people that you know from the past.
- 53:51Speaker 17: I was good. It was good to see everybody, you know.
- 53:53Speaker 17: I had a lot of Texas week and you know,
- 53:56Speaker 17: like I said, but you know, my parents went to
- 53:57Speaker 17: the University of Alabama. I know a lot of people.
- 54:00Speaker 4: Well here.
- 54:00Speaker 17: I used to go to all the games when Wim
- 54:02Speaker 17: Sanderson was the coach and sit up there, me and
- 54:04Speaker 17: my dad did I s all went for the game.
- 54:05Speaker 17: I told him that's right where we sat right up there. Man,
- 54:07Speaker 17: watch every game, you know, I watched watch Robert Riy,
- 54:10Speaker 17: Latrell Spree, Will James Robbins. I mean, I watch all
- 54:12Speaker 17: those guys. So you know, it was great. You know,
- 54:17Speaker 17: it's great for my for my h my parents right
- 54:19Speaker 17: to get to see that. Uh you know, they were
- 54:21Speaker 17: universe of Alabama grads. It was even better when we
- 54:23Speaker 17: beat Auburn. They love that, you know. And but they
- 54:27Speaker 17: were pulling for the Aggies tonight, and so it was
- 54:30Speaker 17: it was it was good for uh, good to see people.
- 54:32Speaker 17: It's great for them. Coach.
- 54:35Speaker 12: Every Alabama guard in double figure snipe. What makes the
- 54:37Speaker 12: Alabama so so difficult to defend.
- 54:39Speaker 17: Just multiple shooters, talent, Like someone asked about what do
- 54:43Speaker 17: you think about the team, Like, well, you know, they
- 54:46Speaker 17: have skill, size, athleticism. You know, they're not missing much here,
- 54:52Speaker 17: you know, and you know they had us size at
- 54:56Speaker 17: most of the spots.
- 54:57Speaker 4: They had us.
- 54:57Speaker 17: They have great skill. So they we got a great roster.
- 55:01Speaker 17: And when they're playing well, they've been the top ten
- 55:04Speaker 17: caliber team in the country. When they played well, I
- 55:06Speaker 17: thought they'd played good. Tonight.
- 55:07Speaker 6: That was.
- 55:10Speaker 17: The worst I've seen them play at Florida in a while.
- 55:12Speaker 17: And that just happens. And so I figured they'd come
- 55:14Speaker 17: back and really really play well tonight, and obviously that
- 55:18Speaker 17: obviously they did. You know, I know Nate would get
- 55:20Speaker 17: them right, and you know they played a good basketball tonight.
- 55:24Speaker 3: Look, you know they're disappointed, but you could you could
- 55:27Speaker 3: just tell in Bucky's demeanor and how he answered the
- 55:31Speaker 3: questions after the game, he knew what kind of effort
- 55:35Speaker 3: his team had given. If there was any doubt, which
- 55:40Speaker 3: I don't think there should have been, about the strength
- 55:45Speaker 3: of this team, it was answered last night, even in
- 55:48Speaker 3: the loss. And I guarantee that Florida knows what they
- 55:58Speaker 3: are in for Saturday evening. It should just be a
- 56:01Speaker 3: great evening on Saturday. Brows's Valley Flooring and Design been
- 56:05Speaker 3: part of our community for quarter century, and Chuck and
- 56:13Speaker 3: Brandon and the crew aren't going anywhere. At the corner
- 56:17Speaker 3: of Rockberry and Old Welburn Road, they've got the Granite
- 56:21Speaker 3: Center just next door. Whether it's one room or an
- 56:25Speaker 3: entire office building or apartment complex, new house redoing the
- 56:30Speaker 3: one you have flooring, Yeah, they've got it, wood, laminates, tile, carpet,
- 56:40Speaker 3: over a million square feet of flooring in stock. That's
- 56:44Speaker 3: great for you in terms of selection is great for
- 56:46Speaker 3: you in terms of timing, the installers that they have
- 56:50Speaker 3: and the way they've done things residential and commercial all
- 56:54Speaker 3: these years, and of course matched it all with the
