- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo. It's episode 12, and I'm so glad you're here. Luna: Hey Lucas! Thanks. I've been practicing my greetings from the last episodes. Hallo, Goedemorgen, Goedenavond... I'm getting there. Lucas: That's great. And today we're going to take it a step further. We already covered 'Hoe gaat het?' way back in episode 2, but I want to really lock it in today. Just one question and one answer. Luna: Okay, I'm ready. Let's do it. Lucas: So the casual way to ask 'How are you?' is 'Hoe gaat het?' Say it with me: Hoe gaat het? Luna: Hoe gaat het? Lucas: Perfect. Now the simplest answer: 'Goed, dank je wel.' That's 'Good, thank you.' Let's break it down. Goed. Luna: Goed. Lucas: Dank je wel. Luna: Dank je wel. Lucas: Now together: Goed, dank je wel. Luna: Goed, dank je wel. Lucas: Excellent! So let's imagine a mini-scene. I'll be at a coffee shop, and you're the barista. I walk in and say 'Hoe gaat het?' and you respond. Luna: Okay, I can do that. Ready. Lucas: Hoe gaat het? Luna: Goed, dank je wel. Lucas: Perfect! That's all it takes. Now let's swap roles. You ask me. Luna: Hoe gaat het? Lucas: Goed, dank je wel. See? Simple. Luna: I love that it's so short. But what if I want to ask someone else? Like, 'How are you?' to a friend? Lucas: Same phrase: 'Hoe gaat het?' works for almost anyone casually. You could also say 'Hoe is het?' but we'll stick with 'Hoe gaat het?' for now. Let's practice one more time. Luna: Okay, I'll ask you again. Hoe gaat het? Lucas: Goed, dank je wel. And how about you? How do you answer? Luna: Oh, I'm good too! So I'd say 'Goed, dank je wel.' Lucas: Exactly. Now let's do a quick recap quiz. I'll say a phrase, and you tell me what it means. First: 'Hoe gaat het?' Luna: That's 'How are you?' Lucas: Right. Next: 'Goed, dank je wel.' Luna: 'Good, thank you.' Lucas: You've got it. One more time: say the question in Dutch. Luna: Hoe gaat het? Lucas: And the answer? Luna: Goed, dank je wel. Lucas: Fantastic. Now you can greet someone and ask how they are. Next time you meet a Dutch friend, try it out. Luna: I will. Thanks Lucas. This was a nice short episode. Lucas: That's the idea. Keep it small, practice often. Thanks for joining us on Learn Dutch with Fexingo. Practice these phrases until we chat again. Tot ziens! Luna: Tot ziens!
