- 0:00What's going on, folks, and how you doing? Welcome to my podcast.
- 0:04My name is David, and I'm your host of this legendary podcast,
- 0:08the Deconstructing Topic Podcast. Let's go.
- 0:11Man, in this little episode, it's going to be real quick. I got a little announcement going on there.
- 0:16You know, as you already know, people out there kind of been,
- 0:19like, reaching out to me. It's like, oh, you know, are you still doing podcasts? Absolutely.
- 0:23But just took a little, you know, a little pause here, little break here,
- 0:28whatever the case, to address a couple of things.
- 0:30We're doing it. But the special announcement, trust me, is something good for
- 0:34a lot of people that know me.
- 0:36You know, I've been part of fundraisers and doing things. So I just want to
- 0:40announce that we are having a fundraiser.
- 0:42Well, I say we, you know, we're talking about the SEIU, Latino Caucus,
- 0:47the Service Employee International Union, which I'm part of.
- 0:51You know what I mean? So we're having a fundraiser. Saturday,
- 0:56June 14th from 6 to 10 p.m. The tickets will be $50.
- 1:01It will include some food and some drinks. There's going to be some music.
- 1:04I'm going to put the flyer under this on the subscription, so we're going to make it happen.
- 1:09This fundraiser, proceeds will go to the families that were devastated by the
- 1:14wildfires in California.
- 1:16A lot of people know that, you know, what those fires just going rampant.
- 1:21It don't matter what neighborhood or what plays in California, which is,
- 1:26There were a lot of families that were definitely affected, and especially families
- 1:31from the SCIU, the Service Employee International Union, and,
- 1:35you know, other families. And then we got other of the union families as well that are affected.
- 1:40You know, when it comes to, you know, things like this that devastated with
- 1:43it, 9-11, I belong in a union that represents the cleaners and so on.
- 1:48Porters, commercial buildings, residential.
- 1:51And, you know, when it comes to, like, example, 9-11 happened,
- 1:54the devastating, there was a lot of members affected, a lot of union,
- 1:57a lot of people affected, obviously.
- 1:59Just to tell you that, yes, our union family, we are extending to the point
- 2:04of many sectors that, sadly, when it comes to situations like this,
- 2:08whether it's the wildfire, whether it's other things that is out of our control, we all get affected.
- 2:13And when lives are lost, homes are lost, a lot of things just don't happen.
- 2:18It so you know we decided to make sure that we do this fundraise it's gonna be fun it's gonna be cool,
- 2:24i'll be there obviously and all the information i will be put it on the description
- 2:30box there wow and of course feel free to share and all this good stuff reach
- 2:35out to me like i said the information will be in the flyer you could reach out
- 2:38to me directly and the person that's uh you know,
- 2:42part of and the head of the fundraisers, the information will be in the flyer.
- 2:47It's definitely going to be cool.
- 2:49It's one of those things that I've participated in many fundraisers,
- 2:52whether it's the Latino Caucus and other organizations, even from back.
- 2:58I mean, it's always a thing for me, you know what I mean, to help a cause,
- 3:02to put our differences on the side, whatever it is, whatever that's going on
- 3:07in this world, just, you know, let's just help each other out because that's
- 3:10all we have. We have to help each other out.
- 3:14The fundraiser is called Rising
- 3:15from the Ashes. It's going to be Latino solidarity for the fire victims.
- 3:21And there's a lot of, you know, when it comes to the people that,
- 3:24especially in the nurse union, SCIU, over in California, there were people there that,
- 3:30you know, sadly sometimes the narrative would be like, oh, you know,
- 3:34these are affluent neighborhoods and so on that has been affected.
- 3:37But no, it's a lot of neighborhood, a lot of places in California that got affected,
- 3:42hardworking people, people that, you know, have owned homes for like 30,
- 3:4640 years, you know, that type of deal.
- 3:48And then, you know, sadly, you know, there's some people that's like,
- 3:51ah. But again, there's a lot of people that do get affected.
- 3:56When it comes to, when it came to the wildfire, definitely it's people that
- 4:00got affected where, you know, lost their home partially.
- 4:05A lot of them lost their homes and it's a little bit difficult.
- 4:08And, you know, want to say, well, you know, the insurance and so on.
- 4:11Sometimes we don't necessarily want to say just because these people might have
- 4:17insurance or whatever the case might be.
- 4:20Listen, when it comes to situations where it's devastation like that,
- 4:24keep in mind, things just go crazy.
- 4:27So, yes, if you're a homeowner and you got insurance, you would think like,
- 4:30okay, any other time that it was just an isolated fire, you would think,
- 4:34okay, paperwork, boom, boom, boom, boom, let's get it done.
- 4:37But if you got thousands of people that have got affected, you already know
- 4:41there's still people out there that still kind of in limbo, living hotel to
- 4:45hotel, whatever the case might be.
- 4:47So, you know, you never want to kind of say to yourself and whether you want
- 4:51to say, you know, you got the government stepped in for whatever capacity, local, state, federal.
- 4:59Then you got the insurance company, whatever they did, whatever it is.
- 5:03I know there's some stories behind that situation.
- 5:06You know, at the end of the day, you can't just be like, OK,
- 5:09let's depend on that or just let's think that our brothers and sisters out there
- 5:12are going to be doing good because they got that. That's why we're doing this fundraiser.
- 5:17And, you know, and I participated in another, or at least I've gone on other
- 5:24avenues and helped out the fire. Because, again, there were a lot of people.
- 5:28There were people that came to this country, opening business,
- 5:31tacos over there in California.
- 5:33You had a family, two generation, three generation, where they had a business,
- 5:39you know, taco place. You know, you got a lot of Mexicans over there and so
- 5:42on. And, you know, hey, listen, you know, not to say anything crazy out there,
- 5:46but, you know, a lot of them, hey, they work hard.
- 5:48They work hard. And basically, you know, for their home to be just boom out of nowhere.
- 5:56So, yeah, we got a little ring there on my direct line. That's for sure.
- 6:00So, you already know we be doing something exciting. So, it is going to be Saturday, June 14.
- 6:06That's the day before Father's Day. So, we also going to do like a little kind
- 6:10of Father's Day theme as well. So we got a shout out to the fathers out there
- 6:15who come in and just come in. Like I said, just bring whatever it is.
- 6:19If, let's say, people who are listening to this and listening to other areas,
- 6:23again, if you want to donate, buy the tickets.
- 6:26By all means, by all means. And then, you know, if you can't make it,
- 6:29you know, it's always good to let us know.
- 6:31But, hey, you know, it's always going to go for a good cause.
- 6:35It's going to be on 25 West 18th Street. Well, the information will be in the
- 6:39fly by 25 West 18th Street in New York City.
- 6:42I just want to be very specific. New York City, you know, if you're in the area in New York City.
- 6:48Reach out. June 14th. June 14th is around the corner.
- 6:52It's a Saturday. I'm hoping for a beautiful day because, you know, I'm in New York City.
- 6:57And sadly, for some reason, it's someone kind of kidnapped the sun for a while.
- 7:04I mean, you know, we get one sunny day and then we get the next three rain and gloomy and so on.
- 7:11And hey, listen, excuse me. I sometimes enjoy that type of weather.
- 7:16But, you know, I need my son. I need my vitamin D. you know
- 7:18what i mean something you know so that's
- 7:23what's going on with that situation but we're definitely gonna make it happen
- 7:25you know with that day it's gonna again um it's
- 7:28gonna be 6 p.m to 10 p i think
- 7:31one of my elders in the gym said hey wait a minute for all us
- 7:35elders uh you know i think that's a little bit too late you
- 7:39know what sometimes i say hey that means that you're not
- 7:41it's never too late to party right doesn't matter
- 7:44what age whatever the case might be let's get the party
- 7:47let's get the show started let's enjoy this
- 7:50good thing that it's again beautiful fundraisers
- 7:54fun fundraisers you know people gonna ask me some couple of people ask me about

- 8:16So I'll be cracking some click, click, a couple of bottles there of beer.
- 8:22So, yeah, it's going to be fun. It's going to be interesting.
- 8:24The food is always, not sure what the menu is, but we always got a robust menu.
- 8:29Because a lot of times, a lot of our fundraisers are Latino-themed.
- 8:32A lot of our food are Latino-themed food.
- 8:35For those out there, some rice and beans, some, you know, chicken, pollo, you know, baked.
- 8:42So, Pelin, all that good stuff, all that could be there. You know what I mean?
