- 0:38SPEAKER_00: And they also have some pretty awesome custom team merch.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: I like to think of it as PFF meeting our lads, but with a little bit more depth.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Check them out at depth-charts.com or depth underscore charts on Twitter and Instagram.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Welcome back, everybody, to another episode of the Tailgate Cam Podcast.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: I am your host, Cameron Clark, and this is a very special episode of the Tailgate Cam Podcast, a shorter, more abbreviated version of our normal shows.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: We will still have our college football show tomorrow and an NFL show the next day.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: But for today, we are going to dive into a MLB playoff preview because the playoffs start today.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: So we are going to round up every team that is participating in the postseason in the American League and the National League.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: And I will give you my predictions on the Tailgate Cam podcast.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Let's get going.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: So in the American League, our wild card matchups feature my Yankees.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: If you're watching on YouTube.com slash Tailgate Cam Podcast, you will see that I am currently wearing my Max Fried jersey because, again, today is game day.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: And then we also have the Chicago White Sox traveling to Houston to take on the Astros, who were able to win the AL West at 81 and 81.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: In the National League, we have the Chicago Cubs traveling out to San Diego to take on the Padres, who were in second place in the NL West.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: And then the other NL Wildcard series is the Phillies and the Braves.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Of course, the four teams that earned the buys in the American League, the Rays had the top overall seed, squeaking out the Yankees in the AL East.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: And the Guardians, by one game, captured the second seed in the AL over the Chicago White Sox.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: And then in the National League, the Brewers, they finished with the best record in baseball with 103 wins.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: The Dodgers, they also eclipsed 100 wins, 162.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: So neither of them have to play in the wild card rounds.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: So let's get started.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Let's start in the National League.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: The Padres and the Cubs.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: You know, I think this is a really interesting matchup.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: You have your most likely your NL MVP and Pete Crow Armstrong here for the Chicago Cubs, a very good lineup and a bull or excuse me, a starting rotation that I think has gotten a lot better throughout the season and with some of the acquisitions that they've made.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: The same can also be said for the San Diego Padres.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Um you look at some of the moves that they have made and to bolster their pitching staff.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: I really think that this uh wild card series between these two teams could be very interesting.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: Like you look at um, you know, Michael King, Walker Bueller, Robbie Ray, um Nick Pavetta, I mean, they they have guys that have been in big moments.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: Um, Mason Miller has been one of the best relief pitchers in all of baseball.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: But my gut instinct when I look at this series, I mean, there are obviously tons of stars on the Padres, Fernando Tatis.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: They have um good hitters, Manny Machado, Xander Bogart's still sticking around.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: But Jake Cronenworth, um, Luis Camposano has been good this year, Jackson Merrill.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: I mean, they have they have guys that are capable for sure.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: Um, but then you flip it over to the the Cubs side of this, and you look at the team that they had.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Obviously, I mentioned Pete Crow Armstrong, but specifically from a pitching standpoint, um, you you talk about Shoda Imanaga, Klay Holmes, Kevin Gossman.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: That alone, right there, is a pretty uh impressive one, two, three.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: And then you still have other arms, you know, uh Aaron Savali, Matthew Boyd, David Peterson.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: I mean, they have lots of options for Craig Council and the Chicago Cubs team to roll with.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: I'm going to take the Chicago Cubs here.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: I think they have excellent hitting um up and down this lineup between Saya Suzuki.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Um Nico Horner has had an underrated season.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: Michael Bush is a very capable left-handed bat.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: And I just feel like I trust more of what the Cubs can do.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: I like their defense a lot better than the Padres.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: I'm going to take the Cubs to go past the Padres and match up with their hated NL Central rival, the Brewers, in the second round.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: The other NL Wildcard series are two teams that are very familiar with each other.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: That is the Phillies and the Braves taking place in Atlanta.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: Best two out of three.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: Ultimately, I think the Braves just have a much better roster than the Phillies.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: They have a guy that was contending for the NL Cy Young for large stretches of the year and Chris Sale.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: I really like what this team has to offer with Acunya, Michael Harris, um, some of the guys that they have in this lineup.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: I I trust the Braves here in this spot over the Phillies.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take the Braves to create a massive matchup with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: So now over to the American League.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: The Chicago White Sox traveling to Houston.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: The White Sox were one of the feel-good stories of the year.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: They were the first team to ever lose 100 games in back-to-back seasons and then make the playoffs after those two seasons.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: Not only did they make the playoffs, they won 84 games.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: That was the most wins coming off of a season where a team lost 100 games ever in the history of baseball.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: Uh, really feel good story, and I really like this lineup.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Now, the pitching needs to really step up for them to be able to win a wild card series or win you know further series down the road.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: But I'm gonna take the White Sox here.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: I just think that they were similar to the Astros in some respect, a team that was fighting for their playoff lives, really trying to make sure that they were in the playoffs as the last wildcard seed, um, or as the you know, potential AL Central champion that ultimately went to the Cleveland Guardians.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: I just trust what they have more on offense, and it tends to be a good recipe.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: If you can hit for power, you can win these wildcard series.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take the Chicago White Sox, and that brings us to the big daddy of them all, the ALE showdown in the Bronx.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: You better get there.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be packed inside that stadium in Yankee Stadium.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: I mean, we have Cam Schlittler, we have Max Fried.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: I told you I'm wearing his jersey right now.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: We have Garrett Cole, and when we move on, because we will move on past the Red Sox, there is no doubt in my mind.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: When we move on, we'll be taking on the Tampa Bay Rays, and that will let us exercise many demons from this season and past seasons.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: I think this pitching stab is for real.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: I think Aaron Judge will be back for the ALDS.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: I'm taking the Yankees two-game sweep over the Red Sox.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: Schlitler goes seven, scoreless.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: Cole wins it tomorrow.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Give me the Yankees.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: Now let's move back to the NL, and now we will create our World Series participant from the NL.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: So the first NLDS matchup is the Cubs and the Brewers.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: The Brewers have the NL Cy Young winner and Jacob Mizerowski, and they also have a very capable lineup.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: They obviously were the best team in baseball throughout the regular season, but again, I feel like I trust what Chicago has more in this situation versus what the Brewers have.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: They have the best player, I think they have the best pitching staff, maybe not the best pitcher individually.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: And I don't trust the Brewers built bullpen in the playoffs.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: I've seen it time and time again.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: I'm going to roll with the Cubs to make it to the NLCS.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: And on the other side, the biggest series uh in terms of maybe brand recognition, the Braves and the Dodgers from one coast to the other.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna chop on.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: I think the Braves have a better team.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: I think the Braves have uh a little bit more fight in them, and we don't really know the full extent to what's going on with Shohei Otani.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna set up a Cubs Braves NLCS, to which that will follow, with the Cubs making it back nine years after winning the World Series, getting back to the World Series yet again, then over in the American League, the Yankees will defeat the Rays in seven games.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: I think it will be a back and forth series, but ultimately, when you have Cam Schlittler, you have Garrett Cole, you have Carlos Rodan, and you have Max Fried with the bullpen that they have with David Bednar, with Paul Blackburn, with I mean, the lineup that we have, even without Aaron Judge, Spencer Jones has come on, George Lombard, the kid.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: This is the new core four with George Lombard, Spencer Jones, and this pitching staff that we have with Cam Schlittler.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: I am ready to roll with the Yankees over the Rays in seven games.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: Give me the Yankees.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: And then on the other side of the ALDS, the White Sox taking on their AL central rivals, the Cleveland Guardians.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: I think the Guardians um just have the experience in this situation.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: I think the Guardians are a good postseason team, especially in a situation where they're playing a best of five with three games in Cleveland.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: I really, really like Cleveland in this spot.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: The feel-good story will last a little bit longer for the White Sox to get out of the AL wild card and play into the second round, but ultimately the Guardians will advance to the ALCS, where they will ultimately fall to the Yankees, who will make it to the World Series against the Chicago Cubs.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: And the Yankees have won the most World Series in the history of Major League Baseball.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: 27.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: Wouldn't it be beautiful to win number 28?
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: To win number 28 and see another banner and another statue in Monument Park.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: The Cubs aren't gonna go down easy.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: But they will go down.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: In six games, the Yankees will defeat the Cubs and lift their 28th World Series title.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: Lock it in.
- 12:01SPEAKER_00: So that's right.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: We have the Cubs and the Yankees matched up in the World Series with the Yankees coming out on top.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: Should be an amazing postseason.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: I'm looking forward to watching so many of these games.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: Like always, if you are following the Tailgate Cam podcast, please rate, comment, subscribe, review.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for listening.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: As always, I am your host, Cameron Clark, and again, we will be back tomorrow with a college football breakdown.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: Peace.
