- 0:26So, and what does that mean?
- 0:27So I am kind of leading the body.
- 0:29You're the guy?
- 0:30Yep.
- 0:30I'm the top kid at the, uh, of the state.
- 0:33I'm coming for, what I'm doing here is I'm coming in and I'm just trying to get that representation out.
- 0:38okay.
- 0:38Making sure I'm talking to the, uh, masons who are here, um, building that community.
- 0:44and the rapport that we have with each other.
- 0:46Um, and just making sure that, uh, Know that we are here and we do want to be more involved with them.
- 0:53Wonderful.
- 0:54Wonderful.
- 0:55And how long have you been involved with Dalla?
- 0:57I, I've been involved since I was 10 years old.
- 1:00Okay.
- 1:00I joined when I was 12.
- 1:01Um, and what, what was it that brought you to Dal?
- 1:03Uh, it's a really funny story.
- 1:05Well, let's your end.
- 1:06Yeah.
- 1:06So my older brother got into Dalla a number of years ago.
- 1:10Okay.
- 1:10And, um, I.
- 1:11Started seeing him walk off, uh, every Sunday, going out and doing something.
- 1:15And I'm like, what are you doing man?
- 1:17Why are you, why are you leaving?
- 1:19He was like, oh, I got this youth group Um, so eventually I just started pestering him to let me come with and, um, there was a fundraiser we were doing, it was a spaghetti dinner.
- 1:29Okay.
- 1:29And we went there.
- 1:32and he eventually let us come with, went there, did it, and I was like, this is a lot of fun.
- 1:37Afterwards we went bowling, and the state master counselor at the time was there.
- 1:40Okay.
- 1:41and he had sat down and talked with me for a bit.
- 1:43Um, and just seeing him kind of interact with me the way that he did was really inspiring.
- 1:49So I.
- 1:50This is a lot of fun.
- 1:52I feel like I'm actually part of a community here.
- 1:55and that's what really got me interested and started to want to get more involved.
- 1:58Um, so are you a student Jason?
- 2:01Uh, no.
- 2:02So, uh, you've graduated from school, high school?
- 2:05Yes.
- 2:05Okay.
- 2:05Where'd you, where did you grow up?
- 2:07Uh, I grew up in Richfield, Minnesota.
- 2:09Okay.
- 2:09Yep.
- 2:09Richfield High School.
- 2:11Yep.
- 2:11Okay.
- 2:11Yep.
- 2:12So, and how old are you?
- 2:14I'm 19 years old, so 19.
- 2:15And, and you can stay in D Malay until you are 21.
- 2:1821.
- 2:18Yep.
- 2:19Okay.
- 2:19I got about two more years left.
- 2:20Two more years left.
- 2:21Yeah.
- 2:21What, uh, what, what's your future look like?
- 2:23What do you, uh, future?
- 2:24Um, I know especially once I end my, um, SMC term over in August, uh, I'm planning on getting involved with Masonry as well.
- 2:33Okay.
- 2:33Um, is there a lodge that you're going to, uh, petition I have you that I'm looking at?
- 2:38I could go to the lodge that my, home chapter meets Atha Lodge.
- 2:42Oh, that's a good one.
- 2:42Or, uh, I've been involved a bit with, lake Harriet Lodge.
- 2:47Another good lodge.
- 2:48Great, great group of guys.
- 2:49Yep.
- 2:50So just in that area, let's pivot to Caden here.
- 2:53What brings you here?
- 2:54Caden, what's your job?
- 2:56so I'm the second guy in charge, uh, with Justin here.
- 2:59I'm a state district representative, is what we call it.
- 3:02Uh, so I'm here to do what Justin's doing, talking with Mason's.
- 3:06Okay.
- 3:06And just read the word about Dean ELA this weekend.
- 3:08And, and where do you live?
- 3:09Uh, currently I live up in Duluth, but I, uh, grew up down in Anoka, are you a student?
- 3:13Yeah, I'm a college student up in Duluth.
- 3:15Where do you go to school?
- 3:16Uh, lakes, pier College.
- 3:17Free Lake Pi?
- 3:18Yeah.
- 3:18Aviation Management.
- 3:19Oh, very cool.
- 3:20Cool.
- 3:21Very nice.
- 3:22How old are you?
- 3:23I'm 19.
- 3:2419.
- 3:24is, masonry in your future?
- 3:26Yeah, so once I finish up with college, I plan on, uh, heading backed down home probably joining Anoka Lodge.
- 3:33That's a very good lodge.
- 3:34A fun lodge.
- 3:36So couple things in your time with de what have been kind of the most fun things that you guys have done?
- 3:43Yeah, For me, there have been a lot of fun things that I've done.
- 3:46I've traveled, uh, especially all over the Midwest, but I've gone out to other places in the country, doing ritual competitions or going to leadership events.
- 3:54and I would say probably the most fun I've ever had was, this big leadership, convention that they do every year down in Oklahoma called, leadership Convention dlc.
- 4:04They have it structured with like courses, um, all the way from basic to junior advisor.
- 4:09Okay.
- 4:09Um, and it teaches you everything in between, from right when you're starting to join to master counselor, uh, jurisdictional officer or, um, like state officer positions, um, all the way up to like getting ready for the adult leadership I really like it because it's, it's taught me a lot about what, I need to, learn and improve upon, okay?
- 4:29For when I'm preparing for these roles.
- 4:31Like before I came into the state, officer line, I went into the.
- 4:36Jurisdictional officer track that they had there.
- 4:38And it taught me a lot about term planning and that public speaking aspect that I would need to work on.
- 4:42Wonderful.
- 4:43For, this position.
- 4:44And it's helped me a lot and I think.
- 4:48It Besides the education aspect, it's also massive for like community building.
- 4:54Cause you're, we're getting people together from all over the country.
- 4:57Um, sometimes people are coming in from outside of the country too.
- 5:00Yeah.
- 5:00What a great way to meet people.
- 5:01Yeah.
- 5:01From all over the country.
- 5:02Mm-hmm.
- 5:02Very cool.
- 5:03It's so much fun.
- 5:04How about you Caden?
- 5:05What's been the highlight of your, uh, past year?
- 5:08I mean, other than this podcast?
- 5:10Great hearing.
- 5:11Uh, so I had the pleasure of planning our, uh, our annual winterfest event.
- 5:15We.
- 5:16Uh, it's usually our second biggest event of the year and I had a lot of fun planning it.
- 5:21We had guys from, uh, all over the country come there too.
- 5:24We had, uh, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Alabama show up.
- 5:27it was exciting.
- 5:28We did a lot of fun stuff in, Duluth, around the lake.
- 5:32Very cool.
- 5:33So I'm with Minnesota Masonic Charities.
- 5:36Yep.
- 5:36And I'd like to invite you two guys.
- 5:39In September to come to our, annual gala.
- 5:43Okay, perfect.
- 5:44I don't think we've ever had people from demo Malay there.
- 5:47How many members of Demo Malay are there?
- 5:50Um, so we have, uh, around 140 members on the books right now.
- 5:54Um, and we're working, uh, wonderful.
- 5:57Yeah, that number's up.
- 5:58Yeah.
- 5:58Yep.
- 5:59That's terrific.
- 6:00So, while I have you here we're gonna have a, an auction at the event.
- 6:05And, uh, I'm involved with a number of other nonprofits.
- 6:08Yeah.
- 6:08And this past year I was at an event for my son's high school baseball fundraiser.
- 6:16Yep.
- 6:16And they auctioned off the varsity baseball team for two hours.
- 6:22Of labor you know where I'm going with this.
- 6:25I think I can, I'm wondering if you guys could get together a group of people from De Molay.
- 6:30Mm-hmm.
- 6:30And we could auction off a team of demo Molay guys to do like leaf collection at someone's house.
- 6:38Yes.
- 6:38Yeah.
- 6:38Because here's what happened.
- 6:41Of all the things that was at this.
- 6:44Getting those varsity baseball players to come and I'm having them spread 15 yards of mulch.
- 6:50it went for so much money.
- 6:51You wouldn't believe it.
- 6:52Yeah.
- 6:52Because everybody looked and they're like, okay, here's these strapping young men.
- 6:57And I just think that there are guys out there that are supporters of Demo Malay.
- 7:01Yep.
- 7:01That will want to put your butts to work.
- 7:03Yeah.
- 7:03And I love the idea, so why don't you guys think about that?
- 7:07Yeah.
- 7:07But I would love to have you come and, the other trick is, is, uh, if I have you at the event and I put you up there like props mm-hmm.
- 7:15People are gonna feel bad if they don't bid it real high.
- 7:18So I am in the fundraising business.
- 7:21And I'm not too proud to take advantage of young people to raise more money for cancer research.
- 7:27Yep.
- 7:28Taking care of sick children.
- 7:30Mm-hmm.
- 7:30Scholarships, all of the above.
- 7:32Yeah.
- 7:32So I kind of manipulated you into this and I don't feel one bit bad about it.
- 7:38That's okay.
- 7:38Uh, I think that's, Definitely something we would be really interested in.
- 7:41Okay.
- 7:41Um, well another thing that we are into with Dean Light is getting that community service going.
- 7:46So if we can help out some people, we can help you with that.
- 7:49That'd be perfect.
- 7:50Yeah.
- 7:50Yeah.
- 7:51All right, well thank you very much guys.
- 7:53Enjoy Grand Lodge.
- 7:54You guys here until tomorrow?
- 7:55Yep.
- 7:56Yes.
- 7:56Oh, wonderful.
- 7:56Cool.
- 7:57Well, thank you.
- 7:58I shake your hand, but I'm sweating like a pig over here.
- 8:00Have a good day boys.
