- 0:31Speaker 1: whole bean, ground, or K-cups, however you make it in
- 0:34Speaker 1: the morning.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Based off our conversation yesterday about eliminating the unneeded Y
- 0:39Speaker 2: at the end of the name, I would like to
- 0:41Speaker 2: make a push to call this David Crockett as we
- 0:43Speaker 2: talk about Crockett Coffee. In fact, if you search on Wikipedia,
- 0:48Speaker 2: David Crockett appears and not Davy Crockett. It is David
- 0:52Speaker 2: Crockett High School in East Tennessee and not Davy Crockett also.
- 0:56Speaker 2: At least I'd like to make that change. Something I
- 0:57Speaker 2: won't be changing is my subscription to Crockett Coffee. I've
- 1:00Speaker 2: got the Blue Ridge blend right now.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Delicious.
- 1:04Speaker 2: The medium roast. Change it, cancel it anytime you want

- 1:21Speaker 2: some good. CrockettCoffee.com. That's Crockett, C-R-O-C-K-E-T-T-Coffee.com.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Chad, best I can tell, David Crockett did not have
- 1:32Speaker 1: a middle name. Fascinating. I know. I find that.
- 1:37Speaker 2: It was a simpler time, Hutton. It was a simpler people.
- 1:40Speaker 2: And they said, why waste time with having a third name?
- 1:43Speaker 2: Let's just go with David Crockett and roll with it.
- 1:46Speaker 2: That's a strong enough name.
- 1:48Speaker 1: I feel like he would want to go by David. David, Davey.
- 1:53Speaker 2: I just, I don't prefer, I do not prefer Davey. Guys,
- 1:56Speaker 2: are we good to go to Jason now?
- 1:59Speaker 1: Yeah? Okay, perfect. Oh, great. Jason Foster joins us.
- 2:06Speaker 2: I was doing research on David Crockett over there. I
- 2:08Speaker 2: got lost in it for a second. I'm like, oh,
- 2:10Speaker 2: there's Jason waiting on us.
- 2:11Speaker 1: From the press box.
- 2:11Speaker 2: From the press box at the Braves-Phillies game. Jason Foster, sportandstate.com.
- 2:16Speaker 2: doing a great job covering Major League Baseball on with
- 2:19Speaker 2: us right now.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Jason, how are you, man?
- 2:21Speaker 2: Appreciate you doing this while you're covering this series.
- 2:23Speaker 3: I'm doing great.
- 2:24Speaker 4: Thank you for having me.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Are you a fan of this series format right now
- 2:30Speaker 1: where you've got three at home and you don't have to–
- 2:32Speaker 1: it feels like everyone's wanting a five-game series. Why won't
- 2:35Speaker 1: Major League Baseball give that to us?
- 2:37Speaker 4: Well, I think it just comes down to, like, not
- 2:40Speaker 4: having the postseason go too far into November. I mean,
- 2:43Speaker 4: there is a good case to have the wild card
- 2:45Speaker 4: series be best three out of five, and then have
- 2:48Speaker 4: the Division Series be a best of seven, like the
- 2:51Speaker 4: Championship Series and the World Series. I know a lot
- 2:53Speaker 4: of fans definitely want that. I'm kind of indifferent toward
- 2:59Speaker 4: a five-game wildcard series, but it's a three-game best of
- 3:03Speaker 4: three is definitely a lot better than what it used
- 3:05Speaker 4: to be, which was the one game which anything can
- 3:07Speaker 4: happen and really wasn't fair. So I'm okay with.
- 3:10Speaker 1: The way it is. What do the players say about it?
- 3:14Speaker 4: I think they have very similar feelings. They prefer anything
- 3:19Speaker 4: other than just one game. And they also don't want
- 3:21Speaker 4: the postseason to go too far into November. So I
- 3:24Speaker 4: think they're okay with it. And they would probably tell
- 3:26Speaker 4: you it's just more incentive to win your division and
- 3:29Speaker 4: have one of the top two best records so you
- 3:30Speaker 4: don't have to play the wildcard series.
- 3:32Speaker 2: And that's where my problem arises. It's not about three-game
- 3:36Speaker 2: series for wildcard teams. It's about the Braves winning 96
- 3:40Speaker 2: games and winning a division and a tough division and
- 3:44Speaker 2: a record that would have got them in a great
- 3:45Speaker 2: spot in the American League and being forced to play
- 3:47Speaker 2: a three-game series to start it. We have got to
- 3:50Speaker 2: do something in baseball. I don't know what you do
- 3:53Speaker 2: with the numbers. You add a team or do this.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Wildcard teams should play wildcard teams in the wildcard.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Round, Jason.
- 3:58Speaker 2: I cannot stand division champions being forced to play in
- 4:02Speaker 2: the wildcard round and just taking the top two records
- 4:06Speaker 2: of division champions to get the bye. Where do you
- 4:09Speaker 2: stand on that? And do you feel like the Braves
- 4:12Speaker 2: or another division champ would have the argument that, hey,
- 4:15Speaker 2: it would be great if we got a buy to
- 4:17Speaker 2: that best-of-five series for winning a division after a 162-game schedule.
- 4:22Speaker 4: I would agree with that. I think there has to
- 4:24Speaker 4: be a better way to reward division winners, and I
- 4:27Speaker 4: think you'll probably see that as some component of the
- 4:29Speaker 4: upcoming collective bargaining agreement. I don't know what that might
- 4:32Speaker 4: look like. There's been ideas of having the top seed
- 4:36Speaker 4: get to choose their opponent or the third division winner
- 4:41Speaker 4: or the division winner with the lowest record to come
- 4:44Speaker 4: in with one win already in hand like they do
- 4:46Speaker 4: in Japan. So there's a lot of ideas out there.
- 4:50Speaker 4: So I would not be at all surprised to see
- 4:52Speaker 4: that addressed in the CBA.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I'm watching the game yesterday. I'm a giant Braves fan.
- 4:57Speaker 2: And what struck me was it was a great moment
- 5:00Speaker 2: with Austin Riley that you saw live.
- 5:03Speaker 1: And it was very loud in that moment.
- 5:05Speaker 2: But I was at a series in late June against
- 5:08Speaker 2: the Milwaukee Brewers that had better atmosphere and a better
- 5:12Speaker 2: crowd on a Friday night in the regular season than
- 5:14Speaker 2: what we saw for a mid-afternoon start on a Tuesday
- 5:17Speaker 2: afternoon in Atlanta. And I know you wrote about this
- 5:20Speaker 2: at Sporting State as well, Jason, but that is an issue.
- 5:24Speaker 2: And this is not something new. You know, days during
- 5:27Speaker 2: the week, during the middle of the day in Major
- 5:29Speaker 2: League Baseball playoffs has been going on forever. But to
- 5:33Speaker 2: have the Braves and Phillies in that time slot for
- 5:36Speaker 2: possibly three straight days in this series, what do you
- 5:39Speaker 2: make of that decision by Major League Baseball?
- 5:42Speaker 4: Well, MLB says obviously someone has to have the first
- 5:46Speaker 4: game slot and there's going to be fan bases unhappy
- 5:48Speaker 4: no matter what. And they factor in things like the
- 5:52Speaker 4: time zone of the teams and where the game is
- 5:54Speaker 4: and the potential draw that it's going to bring. But
- 5:58Speaker 4: like you said, when you have a marquee matchup like
- 6:00Speaker 4: the Braves and Phillies, two huge rivals who have postseason
- 6:05Speaker 4: beef not that long ago, there's just all kinds of
- 6:09Speaker 4: narratives that kind of lend themselves to or lends the
- 6:11Speaker 4: game to a more prominent time slot. Two o'clock in
- 6:14Speaker 4: the afternoon is, is just bad on all fronts. You know,
- 6:17Speaker 4: if you're in school, you can't watch it. If you're
- 6:19Speaker 4: at work, you probably can't watch it and you can't
- 6:22Speaker 4: come to the game in most cases, which is why
- 6:24Speaker 4: it wasn't a sell yesterday. It was a little over 30,000,
- 6:27Speaker 4: which was better than I expected because like 45 minutes
- 6:31Speaker 4: before the game, I was looking out and it was,
- 6:33Speaker 4: it was a skip carry used to say it was
- 6:35Speaker 4: a partial sellout. And it was just, it was just
- 6:39Speaker 4: not a, It was not a good look at that time,
- 6:41Speaker 4: but the crowd did fill in nicely. And I saw
- 6:45Speaker 4: something on X this morning that yesterday's crowd was actually,
- 6:49Speaker 4: I think, the third highest game one crowd ever since
- 6:54Speaker 4: they started the current wildcard format. And so it wasn't
- 6:59Speaker 4: a terrible crowd, but I agree with you. It could
- 7:01Speaker 4: have been better. And I think if it was even
- 7:03Speaker 4: a five o'clock start, you would have seen a much
- 7:05Speaker 4: better crowd.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Well, one broadcast question for you, too, and I'll turn
- 7:08Speaker 2: it back over to Hutton then. And I know you're
- 7:10Speaker 2: not watching the broadcast while you're actually there in the
- 7:12Speaker 2: building in the press box covering the game. But NBC's
- 7:15Speaker 2: decision to bring the hometown announcers in to call the
- 7:19Speaker 2: game with two color guys. And I know they had,
- 7:22Speaker 2: I think Joey Votto was the third analyst.
- 7:25Speaker 1: But C.J.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Nikowski, who I think does a great job with Braves
- 7:28Speaker 2: Vision covering the Braves. But I've watched and heard C.J.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Nikowski all season with the Braves. John Kruk with the
- 7:34Speaker 2: Phillies broadcast. And they're there together. I just feel like
- 7:38Speaker 2: if you're going to be truly big time with Major
- 7:41Speaker 2: League Baseball and your commitment, if you're NBC, you have
- 7:44Speaker 2: a second broadcast crew, you know, for that secondary game
- 7:48Speaker 2: or whatever it is. That's a national broadcast crew for
- 7:50Speaker 2: that game.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Am I off with that?
- 7:52Speaker 2: Or do you agree with the decision to have the
- 7:54Speaker 2: hometown color commentators call that game yesterday?
- 7:58Speaker 4: I like having one of each team. I wouldn't be
- 8:01Speaker 4: opposed to what you're suggesting as some sort of simulcast situation.
- 8:06Speaker 4: But I think fans in general like to have a
- 8:08Speaker 4: familiar voice on the broadcast because that's always been a
- 8:12Speaker 4: complaint through the decades that you watch a broadcast team
- 8:16Speaker 4: for 162 games and then the playoffs start and you
- 8:18Speaker 4: don't get to hear them anymore. And so this at
- 8:20Speaker 4: least addresses that a little bit. And I know they're
- 8:23Speaker 4: supposed to be not exactly neutral. They're allowed to be
- 8:27Speaker 4: a little bit Homer-ish. But I think overall fans like it.
- 8:32Speaker 4: But I definitely understand the– desire to have a a
- 8:37Speaker 4: big-time announce crew like some more prominent national announcers so
- 8:40Speaker 4: i think i think maybe that's something else they could
- 8:42Speaker 4: consider uh to broadcast a simulcast like espn used to
- 8:45Speaker 4: do the regular broadcast and then they're like analytical broadcast
- 8:48Speaker 4: i think you could do something similar with hometown announcers
- 8:51Speaker 4: and then a big-time crew jason with.
- 8:53Speaker 1: These start times i mean they're they obviously want yankees
- 8:56Speaker 1: and red sox in the night gap right are they
- 8:59Speaker 1: taking advantage of the Braves fan base that will actually
- 9:01Speaker 1: show up to game one at this time and actually
- 9:03Speaker 1: have 30,000 as opposed to another series where if they're
- 9:08Speaker 1: in a different, you know, if they're, if they're in the,
- 9:10Speaker 1: in the national league, they don't make the playoffs for,
- 9:13Speaker 1: for instance. Yeah.
- 9:15Speaker 4: I mean, possibly, like I said, MLB takes a lot,
- 9:20Speaker 4: told me that they take a lot of factors into
- 9:22Speaker 4: account when they schedule and they know that some fan
- 9:25Speaker 4: bases are just going to be unhappy.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Right.
- 9:27Speaker 4: And, As far as the Braves-Phillies, they told me that
- 9:31Speaker 4: it just came down to that they're the East Coast
- 9:33Speaker 4: teams that weren't the Yankees and Red Sox. And so
- 9:36Speaker 4: it was kind of by default they would get the
- 9:38Speaker 4: early game. But on the one hand, you could say
- 9:42Speaker 4: if a game's important to fans, they'll find a way
- 9:45Speaker 4: to watch it. I don't necessarily agree with that because
- 9:48Speaker 4: there's a lot of people who just can't afford to
- 9:49Speaker 4: take time off work or can't afford tickets or whatever
- 9:51Speaker 4: it might be. And so they're just out of luck.
- 9:53Speaker 4: They have to sneak in on their phone during the
- 9:55Speaker 4: work day or during the school day to try to
- 9:57Speaker 4: watch what's happening. And that's no way to enjoy the
- 10:00Speaker 4: postseason when you follow the team all season. And then
- 10:03Speaker 4: especially in a short series like this where the first
- 10:06Speaker 4: two games, it could be over after two games and
- 10:08Speaker 4: you potentially don't get to see any of it. And
- 10:11Speaker 4: so there seems like there's got to be a better
- 10:13Speaker 4: way for MLB to schedule these things.
- 10:15Speaker 1: So Chad's a Braves fan. He can chime on this
- 10:17Speaker 1: as well. I've heard from a couple different Braves fans
- 10:20Speaker 1: that did not want to see Philly in the postseason.
- 10:23Speaker 1: What is it about the Phillies that has the number
- 10:25Speaker 1: of the Braves when it comes to the big-time games
- 10:27Speaker 1: that everyone's trying to avoid? And moving forward here, what's
- 10:31Speaker 1: the gamesmanship now? What's the pitching matchups to be looking for?
- 10:36Speaker 4: I think the Phillies are just one of those teams
- 10:38Speaker 4: that has a collection of players that for whatever reason
- 10:41Speaker 4: are able to step it up when the pressure's on.
- 10:43Speaker 4: And maybe the Braves haven't had that type of collection
- 10:46Speaker 4: outside of 2021 of late. But the Phillies are tough.
- 10:51Speaker 4: And when you combine that with the postseason just being
- 10:55Speaker 4: a different animal, the regular season just does not matter.
- 10:58Speaker 4: A lot of fans just don't understand that. But the postseason,
- 11:00Speaker 4: once it starts, the regular season just really doesn't matter.
- 11:03Speaker 4: Everything starts fresh. You heard Walt Weiss and Austin Raleigh
- 11:06Speaker 4: talk about that yesterday in terms of his heroics. But
- 11:09Speaker 4: The Phillies have just had the Braves number, and I
- 11:11Speaker 4: think a big part of that was that they had
- 11:13Speaker 4: to play some games in Citizens Bank Park, which is
- 11:15Speaker 4: one of the worst places for a visiting team to
- 11:19Speaker 4: play in the postseason because those fans are crazy in
- 11:22Speaker 4: a good way, and it's loud, and it's a tough
- 11:25Speaker 4: place to play. Having it here for potentially all three
- 11:29Speaker 4: games is a huge advantage for the Braves, and so
- 11:32Speaker 4: I think that this is– Definitely the best opportunity for
- 11:37Speaker 4: the Braves to, like, slay the Phillies demons that have
- 11:39Speaker 4: haunted them for the past few seasons and try to
- 11:42Speaker 4: make a deep run.
- 11:44Speaker 2: And now they get that opportunity two games to win
- 11:46Speaker 2: one at this point. Jason, it felt like getting that
- 11:49Speaker 2: win with Chris Sale pitching was paramount for the Braves,
- 11:53Speaker 2: and they found a way with Austin Riley's three-run homer
- 11:55Speaker 2: in the eighth to.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Get that done.
- 11:58Speaker 2: How does it set up now with Malley on the
- 12:00Speaker 2: hill for the Braves today? What does the pitching matchup
- 12:03Speaker 2: look like? And how key was that for the Braves
- 12:06Speaker 2: to have a chance to make sure they won that
- 12:08Speaker 2: game that Chris Sale started?
- 12:10Speaker 4: Well, that was huge to get the win with Sale
- 12:12Speaker 4: on the mound. That was by far their best chance
- 12:14Speaker 4: to win in the series on paper. And they were
- 12:18Speaker 4: able to take advantage. And so being up 1-0 in
- 12:21Speaker 4: a best three, obviously huge. Today's matchup on paper, I
- 12:24Speaker 4: would say, favors the Phillies because Christopher Sanchez is another
- 12:27Speaker 4: tough lefty. If not for Jacob Mizorowski and Sale, he
- 12:32Speaker 4: would probably be the Cy Young frontrunner in the National League.
- 12:35Speaker 4: So he's always tough. He's been a little bit uneven
- 12:39Speaker 4: the past few weeks of the regular season. But like
- 12:43Speaker 4: I said, none of that matters once the postseason starts.
- 12:45Speaker 4: He's going to be tough on the Braves. Tyler Malley
- 12:48Speaker 4: has been a godsend for the Braves. He has overperformed
- 12:51Speaker 4: everyone's expectations. So if you can't have Chris Sale on
- 12:54Speaker 4: the mound for a game two, Tyler Malley is definitely
- 12:56Speaker 4: the best option. And piggybacking off that, it'll be even
- 13:01Speaker 4: more of a key– for the Braves to win today,
- 13:03Speaker 4: because if they, if they don't win today, I'm not
- 13:05Speaker 4: even sure they know yet what their pitching situation is
- 13:08Speaker 4: going to look like in game three. Uh, and that
- 13:11Speaker 4: would a hundred percent favor the Phillies, um, almost no
- 13:14Speaker 4: matter who they put out there, because the Braves would
- 13:16Speaker 4: have to probably go with a bullpen game. And that's
- 13:18Speaker 4: always less than ideal in an elimination game, but hopefully
- 13:21Speaker 4: for them, uh, Mally can close it out today. Cause
- 13:24Speaker 4: like I said, he's been great. He's, he's just really
- 13:27Speaker 4: tough to hit, even though he doesn't throw that hard.
- 13:28Speaker 4: He just has a good mix of pitches and, um,
- 13:32Speaker 4: Braves will be looking for a key start from him today,
- 13:34Speaker 4: not just in terms of limiting Philly, but also giving
- 13:37Speaker 4: them length in case they do have to pitch a
- 13:39Speaker 4: bullpen game tomorrow.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Of the two lower-profile series, not Red Sox-Yankees, not Braves-Phillies,
- 13:46Speaker 2: which one interests you the most between White Sox-Astros and Cubs-Padres?
- 13:51Speaker 1: Definitely Cubs-Padres.
- 13:53Speaker 4: Those two teams have a lot of interesting players. You've
- 13:56Speaker 4: got Pete Crow Armstrong, the likely MVP. You got Fernando
- 14:00Speaker 4: Tatis Jr., who was electric last night and is able
- 14:02Speaker 4: to change the game in multiple ways. That's by far
- 14:07Speaker 4: the best secondary series. The White Sox-Astros is just not
- 14:14Speaker 4: interesting to me. Like I wrote in my column, they
- 14:16Speaker 4: combined for 82.5 wins on average, and if they played
- 14:19Speaker 4: in the National League, they wouldn't have even made the postseason.
- 14:21Speaker 4: That's not to say they can't do some magic in
- 14:23Speaker 4: the postseason because October is weird, but I can't get
- 14:26Speaker 4: excited about that series, and it's going to have to
- 14:29Speaker 4: prove me wrong to bring my interest in.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Guys, Chad, chime in on this. If it comes down
- 14:35Speaker 1: to a bullpen game in the third matchup against the Phillies,
- 14:38Speaker 1: do you trust Atlanta's bats in that matchup? Go ahead.
- 14:45Speaker 2: No, I was going to say, yeah, go ahead and
- 14:49Speaker 2: jump in, but my confidence level would not be.
- 14:51Speaker 1: High, Jason. Okay, okay.
- 14:53Speaker 4: Yeah, the bats have been so weird for the Braves
- 14:57Speaker 4: this season. In some ways, it doesn't make sense that
- 15:00Speaker 4: they won the division because they've had long stretches where
- 15:02Speaker 4: they are literally the worst performing offense in the major leagues.
- 15:07Speaker 4: And yet they won 94 games and won the division.
- 15:09Speaker 4: And at one point, we're up by 10 games. Yesterday,
- 15:15Speaker 4: you saw more of the same with Lizardo shutting them
- 15:17Speaker 4: down for the first few innings. They stranded some opportunities,
- 15:21Speaker 4: stranded some runs in scoring positions. So I would not
- 15:24Speaker 4: trust their offense in terms of like you go in
- 15:27Speaker 4: and say, well, I'm confident that the Braves offense can
- 15:31Speaker 4: make up for any bullpen deficiencies. That confidence just isn't there.
- 15:36Speaker 4: The keys are going to be the top of the order. Acuna, Baldwin, Olsen, Harris,
- 15:41Speaker 4: if those guys aren't performing, it takes a guy like
- 15:44Speaker 4: Riley Jones. for all these yesterday also to have a
- 15:47Speaker 4: big hit in a big situation, because if that doesn't happen,
- 15:50Speaker 4: it's going to be really tough for the Braves to
- 15:52Speaker 4: win a bullpen game.
- 15:52Speaker 1: So today is massive. It is massive. Yeah. Jason, thank
- 15:57Speaker 1: you for the time, man. This is a great insight
- 15:59Speaker 1: and glad to have you on board with Sporting State. Yeah.
- 16:02Speaker 4: Thanks guys.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Anytime.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Great. Thanks Jason. From Atlanta, Jason Foster, bringing us all
- 16:09Speaker 1: the insight and analysis at SportingState.com when it comes to this.
- 16:12Speaker 1: And the reward.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Hunting the reward for whoever wins, if the Braves win
- 16:15Speaker 2: today or the Phillies win the next two, is the
- 16:17Speaker 2: Los Angeles Dodgers in the next round in a best-of-five series.
- 16:22Speaker 2: So it's just a foregone conclusion the Dodgers are going
- 16:25Speaker 2: to win a third straight is what people are thinking
- 16:28Speaker 2: with the roster that they've built. And if they do that,
- 16:31Speaker 2: it's going to be a bunch of, I told.
- 16:32Speaker 1: You so, the game needs to be fixed. It's broken.
- 16:35Speaker 2: This is why they're headed for a lockout, because the
- 16:37Speaker 2: Dodgers of the world can do whatever they want and
- 16:39Speaker 2: build their roster together. And to a super team, and
- 16:42Speaker 2: that's going to be a.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Lot of the talk. You just hit on it. This
- 16:47Speaker 1: could be the last of baseball for a little while. Yeah.
- 16:50Speaker 2: But you know what?
- 16:51Speaker 1: It's baseball.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Anything can truly happen. So the Phillies or the Braves
- 16:56Speaker 2: could theoretically knock off the Dodgers in the next round,
- 16:58Speaker 2: whoever gets there, because those are two really good teams also.
- 17:01Speaker 1: So can't wait to watch today. It would be a
- 17:03Speaker 1: great series if that is the case. Hey, coming up,
- 17:07Speaker 1: we discuss a trade, big trade, that took place in
- 17:10Speaker 1: the NFL. J.J. McCarthy and the New York Giants. And
- 17:14Speaker 1: what that tells us about the Vikings specifically, that's straight
- 17:17Speaker 1: ahead here on Hutton & Withrow. You want some Nashville
- 17:20Speaker 1: balls gear, the official place to get that is XXXY Athletics.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Founded by Jennifer Say, former national champion gymnast, former Levi's
- 17:27Speaker 1: brand president, she walked away from that corporate job rather
- 17:30Speaker 1: than say something she didn't believe and started XXXY Athletics instead.
- 17:33Speaker 1: And the mission, in their words, is to empower female
- 17:36Speaker 1: athletes to take a stand for fair competition. They call
- 17:38Speaker 1: it the T that launched a movement. This is real
- 17:41Speaker 1: athletic apparel and real apparel from the Nashville Balls.
- 17:45Speaker 2: And this is the crew making the Nashville Balls gear.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Trucker hats, tees, out now. If you want the shirt,
- 17:50Speaker 2: that's where you go to get it. Also, good news,
- 17:52Speaker 2: new customers get 20% off your first order when you
- 17:54Speaker 2: sign up. And free shipping over $ 100, xxxyathletics.com. That's xx-xyathletics.com.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Speaking of xxxy, speaking of WNBA, I'm not following the
- 18:07Speaker 2: WNBA playoffs closely, but did you see where the Indiana
- 18:11Speaker 2: Fever beat the Las Vegas Aces last night in game two?
- 18:14Speaker 2: I think it's a best of three. So now it's
- 18:16Speaker 2: a game three, do or die. But Asia Wilson went
- 18:20Speaker 2: nuts on a fan at the game because a fan,
- 18:24Speaker 2: a grown, a man, basically a man who's probably 55
- 18:27Speaker 2: years old, dared to point at her after a foul.
- 18:30Speaker 2: He was like, like everybody else in the crowd was
- 18:32Speaker 2: pointing at her.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Or saying something or doing something.
- 18:35Speaker 2: And she walks toward this guy and gets in his
- 18:37Speaker 2: face and is going ballistic. She gets a technical. The
- 18:41Speaker 2: Indiana Fever crowd and security said the dude did nothing
- 18:44Speaker 2: wrong to deserve that. And after the game, I mean,
- 18:48Speaker 2: she was just like, oh, yeah, I would do it again.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Don't bleep with me. Don't mess with me. I'm not
- 18:52Speaker 2: about that. You're a grown man. You're going to stand
- 18:55Speaker 2: up and start walking towards me? And I'm thinking, walking
- 18:58Speaker 2: towards you? He's sitting in his seat over there pointing
- 19:01Speaker 2: at you, and you walk towards him. It was a
- 19:03Speaker 2: wild scene in Indianapolis, to say the least.
- 19:06Speaker 1: They want attention, but they don't want a fan base.
- 19:09Speaker 1: You know, like it is so odd.
- 19:11Speaker 2: They don't want that fan base. They do not want straight, white,
- 19:17Speaker 2: older men. Caring about the team because they just see
- 19:20Speaker 2: it as, well, he's racist, he's homophobic, he's transphobic. That's
- 19:24Speaker 2: why this guy is here cheering on Caitlin Clark and
- 19:27Speaker 2: Sophie Cunningham.
- 19:27Speaker 1: That's who they don't want. Well, what they've turned it into, Chad,
- 19:32Speaker 1: is the WNBA has turned their sport into everything that
- 19:39Speaker 1: we go to sports to get away from, the escape.
- 19:43Speaker 1: You can go to a stadium, you can go to
- 19:44Speaker 1: an arena, and you don't care who you're sitting next to,
- 19:46Speaker 1: by and large. You're cheering for the same team. or
- 19:50Speaker 1: you're cheering against the same team, whatever it might be.
- 19:52Speaker 1: And now they've made it and created an atmosphere where
- 19:55Speaker 1: you want to cheer against them. You're doing it to
- 19:59Speaker 1: get a reaction because you know you will. It's just
- 20:03Speaker 1: so petty and so just soft, extremely soft. just to
- 20:09Speaker 1: be on the lookout for fans like this gentleman, who's
- 20:15Speaker 1: simply a fan, a paying customer, I'm assuming, showing up
- 20:20Speaker 1: and helping them do what they want to do, which
- 20:23Speaker 1: is gain notoriety, gain attention. And instead, they want to
- 20:28Speaker 1: kick that person out. They don't want to include it.
- 20:31Speaker 1: This reminds me of a soccer fan from 20 years ago.
- 20:34Speaker 1: You know what I'm talking about. This niche sport was like, no,
- 20:37Speaker 1: you're not allowed to talk about anything involving soccer or
- 20:43Speaker 1: college baseball. There was just this group of fans that
- 20:47Speaker 1: would not allow you to join their group. Now it's
- 20:50Speaker 1: the actual athlete that's doing it, which is absurd. It's
- 20:53Speaker 1: totally stupid. And they continue to do it. For what reason,
- 20:58Speaker 1: I have no idea when they're alienating their best player
- 21:02Speaker 1: on the planet.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Well, and just be happy that the place is sold
- 21:06Speaker 2: out and that there's a big crowd there watching you.
- 21:09Speaker 2: And I'm not saying just take anything any fan says.
- 21:12Speaker 2: The guy didn't say anything.
- 21:14Speaker 1: He didn't say anything derogatory.
- 21:17Speaker 2: He didn't threaten her. He pointed like Sophie Cunningham with
- 21:20Speaker 2: the pointing thing. He was doing that, and she walked
- 21:23Speaker 2: over and did that to him. Shout out to our
- 21:25Speaker 2: Karen Krause at Sporting State. She wrote a great piece
- 21:28Speaker 2: where she went to the bar in Portland where the
- 21:31Speaker 2: bar owner or that waitress kicked out the lady wearing
- 21:35Speaker 2: the XXXY gear just as an experiment to write about
- 21:38Speaker 2: it and see what it was like. And she told the,
- 21:41Speaker 2: you know, she, they had protests there after that. And
- 21:44Speaker 2: then the protest for XXXY became an anti-protest about transphobia
- 21:51Speaker 2: and all this stuff happened. And the owner of the place,
- 21:54Speaker 2: the GM, was talking to Karen and said, yeah, that
- 21:57Speaker 2: was a weird couple weeks.
- 21:59Speaker 1: That was crazy.
- 22:00Speaker 2: But Karen said, I had the uncomfortable conversation, said, well,
- 22:03Speaker 2: I'm on the side of the people who believe that
- 22:04Speaker 2: men should stay out of women's sports first off. And
- 22:08Speaker 2: she disagreed, but it was ultimately fine. But she told
- 22:11Speaker 2: a great story about, this is basically a lesbian bar,
- 22:15Speaker 2: is the description of the place, right? It's all women's
- 22:18Speaker 2: sports on the TVs.
- 22:20Speaker 1: At all time.
- 22:20Speaker 2: And they're appealing to a lesbian trans crowd, okay, at
- 22:26Speaker 2: this place. But she met a woman who, because she
- 22:29Speaker 2: couldn't get or the bar was closed or something, had
- 22:32Speaker 2: to go to a bar next door that was just
- 22:34Speaker 2: a straight-up sports bar, and she was upset because she
- 22:37Speaker 2: wanted to watch the WNBA game, and she was afraid
- 22:40Speaker 2: because it's Kansas City Chiefs fan bar in Portland. They
- 22:43Speaker 2: were going to take it off the TV to watch
- 22:45Speaker 2: the Chiefs game on a Sunday. Instead, the bar owner
- 22:48Speaker 2: kept her game on the TV. She ended up meeting
- 22:51Speaker 2: Chiefs fans. And this woman was afraid because she thought
- 22:55Speaker 2: she was going to be out of her comfort zone
- 22:57Speaker 2: and people were going to be angry with her. And instead,
- 22:59Speaker 2: she ended up meeting an older man who's a Chiefs
- 23:01Speaker 2: fan who she was asking him about the Chiefs and
- 23:03Speaker 2: he was asking her about the WNBA team that she
- 23:06Speaker 2: was following. And the moral of the story is, if
- 23:09Speaker 2: you get out of your comfort zone, maybe just maybe
- 23:12Speaker 2: sports can bring people together. And you might find something that, hey,
- 23:15Speaker 2: this older white dude isn't as bad as I thought
- 23:18Speaker 2: or as evil as I thought. Or you might say, hey,
- 23:21Speaker 2: this person who I don't think is anything like me,
- 23:24Speaker 2: maybe they're okay. Maybe I have something to learn about
- 23:27Speaker 2: the WNBA or whatever sports on the TV and we
- 23:29Speaker 2: can get along. So I thought it was brilliant work
- 23:31Speaker 2: by Karen to go to the bar and write about that.
- 23:34Speaker 2: That's the moral of the story. Hud, you say it
- 23:36Speaker 2: all the time. We say it on this show. You
- 23:38Speaker 2: don't care about the politics, the person you're slapping hands
- 23:40Speaker 2: with when you're watching a sporting event or seeing.
- 23:42Speaker 1: A big moment. By and large, no. Or the concert
- 23:46Speaker 1: you're going to, by and large. Who knows what half
- 23:51Speaker 1: the time my favorite artists are singing about in some
- 23:54Speaker 1: of these cases. If it's not country music, I don't
- 23:57Speaker 1: know what they would be singing about. Chad, by the way,
- 24:02Speaker 1: great visit from Jason Foster, sportandstate.com there. JJ McCarthy traded.
- 24:08Speaker 1: He was the 10th overall pick in 2024. He's the
- 24:11Speaker 1: highest quarterback ever drafted by the Minnesota Vikings. Let that
- 24:15Speaker 1: sink in. Wow. And he's drafted by a head coach
- 24:20Speaker 1: who is a quarterback developer known by NFL circles. He
- 24:26Speaker 1: did touch the cloak of Sean McVay. He did do that.
- 24:29Speaker 1: But the first year, we saw what happened with Sam Darnold.
- 24:33Speaker 1: And we saw that they didn't re-sign Sam Darnold. They
- 24:37Speaker 1: tried to. They low-balled him. He ends up leaving. He
- 24:39Speaker 1: goes to Seattle. The rest is history. They go with
- 24:42Speaker 1: their rookie quarterback in J.J. McCarthy. Now, this offseason, they're
- 24:47Speaker 1: trying to revamp that feeling with Kyler Murray. And they've
- 24:52Speaker 1: already given up. They've already thrown in the towel on McCarthy.
- 24:55Speaker 1: And it made me think about Cam Ward, where you
- 24:58Speaker 1: start looking at the starts and, oh, we need 20 starts,
- 25:01Speaker 1: 22 starts, whatever. If you know, you know. And this
- 25:05Speaker 1: is O'Connell saying, we know. Apparently, J.J. McCarthy had no
- 25:09Speaker 1: idea this was going to happen. There was like an
- 25:12Speaker 1: emotional conversation between head coach and quarterback. But the fact
- 25:15Speaker 1: that the Giants are going to trade for him, and
- 25:21Speaker 1: what does it mean for the Giants? And what does
- 25:23Speaker 1: it mean for the Vikings, who have given up this
- 25:26Speaker 1: high-profile pick, paid a big price for it, the most
- 25:29Speaker 1: they've ever paid, and they've already said, you know what?
- 25:33Speaker 1: We're done. We're done here. We're out.
- 25:36Speaker 2: That's admitting a mistake and moving on and doing it
- 25:38Speaker 2: the right way. I credit them for finding a trade partner.
- 25:42Speaker 2: I credit them for the quick realization of this.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Isn't going to work out.
- 25:46Speaker 2: And being able to admit it was a mistake, right?
- 25:49Speaker 2: I mean, that's key in all of this. You mentioned it.
- 25:54Speaker 2: This is a head coach who is a quarterback developer
- 25:57Speaker 2: and knows quarterbacks. Made the distinction that this guy is
- 26:01Speaker 2: not going to work out, so let's not waste time.
- 26:04Speaker 2: and let's move them if we can. I love that
- 26:07Speaker 2: for the Vikings. Look, it helps that the Vikings are
- 26:08Speaker 2: off to a good start, too, also, right? They look
- 26:11Speaker 2: smarter because they're doing well, and they've got a really
- 26:14Speaker 2: good defense and all those things, but it does make
- 26:18Speaker 2: me also think about Cam Ward and how soon is
- 26:21Speaker 2: too soon, how late is too late to let it continue, right?
- 26:26Speaker 2: All these questions now of, boy, every sign is that
- 26:30Speaker 2: it's not going to work out, but Do you continue
- 26:32Speaker 2: to allow for good signs to happen with him moving forward?
- 26:38Speaker 2: I think it's time, if you're going to look your
- 26:40Speaker 2: team in the eyes and say, I'm trying to give
- 26:42Speaker 2: you guys a chance to win games and climb out
- 26:45Speaker 2: of this 0-3 hole, you've got to make a move
- 26:47Speaker 2: at quarterback because it's one move that you can make.
- 26:50Speaker 2: And you've got a veteran guy who I think could
- 26:52Speaker 2: be one of the better backups in the league than
- 26:55Speaker 2: Mitch Trubisky, especially with his knowledge of Brian Dayball's system
- 26:58Speaker 2: that's waiting in the wings ready to go.
- 27:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Look, I think it's time for Cam Ward, but the
- 27:03Speaker 2: Titans also aren't coached by a quarterback guru. They're coached
- 27:07Speaker 2: by a defensive-minded head coach in Robert Sala, who ultimately
- 27:10Speaker 2: will have to make that call.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Yeah, and just think about it from the Giants' perspective.
- 27:13Speaker 1: The signing bonus has already been paid. They got him
- 27:17Speaker 1: for a fifth-round pick for a guy that was drafted
- 27:19Speaker 1: 10th overall. He had the torn meniscus in his first year. Chad,
- 27:22Speaker 1: he only started 10 games. He threw 11 touchdowns and
- 27:26Speaker 1: 12 picks. And 6-4, I believe, was the overall record.
- 27:31Speaker 1: They just said, see ya. Because Kyler Murray came in
- 27:34Speaker 1: and said, yeah, this isn't a battle. I'm going to
- 27:35Speaker 1: win this job. And he did. We'll see. He's on
- 27:39Speaker 1: a one-year deal. And McCarthy's under contracts until 2027, so
- 27:43Speaker 1: they've got another year with him in New York. Of course,
- 27:48Speaker 1: you've got Dart. But again, for this year, I like
- 27:51Speaker 1: the aggressive play. And if you need him, you play him.
- 27:54Speaker 1: But if not, stick with Jameis. And hope you play
- 27:58Speaker 1: the Titans every week. He's 1-0.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Jameis Winston's 1-0. He had that one nice run, too,
- 28:03Speaker 2: where he sidestepped a guy running down the field. So
- 28:05Speaker 2: you ride Jameis until the end. Did you hear what
- 28:07Speaker 2: he said postgame? He's a lunatic when he talks. It's hilarious, though,
- 28:13Speaker 2: the way he speaks. He's like, this reminded me of camp.
- 28:15Speaker 2: First day of camp. Pouring rain.
- 28:18Speaker 1: No energy. Nobody cared about that practice.
- 28:20Speaker 2: But that was like a game.
- 28:21Speaker 1: That was like today. If he's just going into it,
- 28:24Speaker 1: I'm like, dude.
- 28:25Speaker 2: There's so many non-sequiturs when he's talking, but everything he does,
- 28:28Speaker 2: he delivers it so dramatically.
- 28:30Speaker 1: I can't get enough of his interviews. He's like a
- 28:32Speaker 1: cool Russell Wilson. Yeah, he's like a more.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Authentic Russell Wilson.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Russell Wilson does it. It comes across as fake.
- 28:40Speaker 2: And Jameis Winston, it comes across completely genuine. Hey, there's
- 28:43Speaker 2: genuine love of the USC football team from their radio team, Hutton.
- 28:47Speaker 1: That's for sure. Yeah, so this is like an SNL skit. Here,
- 28:53Speaker 1: the Trojan Radio Network here discussing what happened on a
- 28:58Speaker 1: play where a player ends up pointing the wrong direction.
- 29:01Speaker 1: He did not try to slide feet first, and Stevens
- 29:05Speaker 1: went in helmet first, but he kind of ran into
- 29:08Speaker 1: Dante Moore, who ducked into that hit. I did not
- 29:12Speaker 1: see him put his feet out first. I saw him
- 29:14Speaker 1: dive forward.
- 29:16Speaker 2: He's laying feet first. He is now because they spun
- 29:19Speaker 2: him around.
- 29:20Speaker 1: I want to see the replay. I don't know. Here
- 29:21Speaker 1: he goes down into, not a feet first slide, more
- 29:24Speaker 1: of a knee slide. It didn't look like targeting on
- 29:28Speaker 1: the replay to us.
- 29:30Speaker 2: The shoulder, you see the guy, the spotter, saying it
- 29:32Speaker 2: was a shoulder, it wasn't a helmet, a helmet. That
- 29:35Speaker 2: was the play where Dante Moore was damn near decapitated
- 29:38Speaker 2: on a play where the linebacker who did it got
- 29:41Speaker 2: ejected and then celebrated the ejection and the hit and
- 29:45Speaker 2: has since had to come out and apologize for doing that.
- 29:49Speaker 2: I mean, there needs to be an apology from that
- 29:51Speaker 2: radio crew for that. And I know Homer local stuff,
- 29:54Speaker 2: all that. We have it here at Nashville too. And
- 29:57Speaker 2: they're probably never going to have to apologize for anything
- 29:59Speaker 2: because That.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Looks so stupid.
- 30:01Speaker 2: And it is a great lesson in if you were
- 30:04Speaker 2: emotionally invested in something, your emotions can convince your brain
- 30:09Speaker 2: to see something that's not happening. And you could be
- 30:13Speaker 2: so blinded by that emotion where you can't just say, yeah,
- 30:17Speaker 2: that was a dirty hit. Or, yeah, I see now
- 30:19Speaker 2: that's going to be target.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Or if you're edited and you have to be Homer
- 30:22Speaker 1: radio over the top all the time for fear of reprimand,
- 30:27Speaker 1: you know? that's the other thing.
- 30:29Speaker 2: If you're walking on eggshells after the game, I don't
- 30:32Speaker 2: think that was the case in this one. I think
- 30:34Speaker 2: that was just a bunch of guys who are USC
- 30:36Speaker 2: fans that are acting like they saw something that didn't happen.
- 30:38Speaker 1: That's fair.
- 30:39Speaker 2: More of a knee slide. It wasn't a proper slide.
- 30:42Speaker 2: It was a knee slide down. He, he, he deserved
- 30:45Speaker 2: that hit is essentially what they were trying to say.
- 30:47Speaker 2: And then the dude's face that he makes the camera,
- 30:50Speaker 2: not a great look for the old USC radio team.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Oh man, not a great look for Lincoln Riley either. We'll,
- 30:56Speaker 1: we must discuss him, um, At some point we have
- 30:59Speaker 1: to get into that. Just the fact that wouldn't you
- 31:01Speaker 1: just focus on your defense at some point, please, you know,
- 31:06Speaker 1: get a clue and get a defense and then actually
- 31:10Speaker 1: have a team that's competitive. Giving up, you know, all
- 31:14Speaker 1: these points is not going to win you games in
- 31:16Speaker 1: the big 10. Yeah.
- 31:18Speaker 2: Oregon has big 10 of five, their roster.
- 31:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:21Speaker 2: Dan landing like big physical guys up front. They have
- 31:25Speaker 2: adapted to the conference they're in where they can compete
- 31:27Speaker 2: and and compete for championships. USC should be a program
- 31:31Speaker 2: that can compete for a Big Ten title, but I
- 31:34Speaker 2: don't think Lincoln Riley's adapted.
- 31:36Speaker 1: No, it's all about building forward. They have not. If anything,
- 31:40Speaker 1: they've just stayed exactly where they were sitting going into
- 31:43Speaker 1: the conference play. Coming up, going for the bundle, and
- 31:47Speaker 1: we've got some good ones for you where you can
- 31:49Speaker 1: roll with us with Hard Rock Bet, Putnam Withrow.
- 31:52Speaker 3: This year, the biggest sportsbook party.
- 31:55Speaker 1: Is getting even bigger.
- 31:56Speaker 2: Hey, there's J-Boy.
- 31:57Speaker 4: I mean, whether you've been here, you're just getting here,
- 32:00Speaker 4: everybody gets the same bonus bets.
- 32:02Speaker 3: Hey, J.
- 32:03Speaker 2: Jimmy Johnson. Kevin, they know me?
- 32:06Speaker 1: Of course they know you. In this party, everybody's somebody.
- 32:10Speaker 3: And everyone gets bonus bets.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Hey, that's Fat Joe.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Forget him. That's J-Boy. Hey, J-Boy. Everybody on Hard Rock
- 32:17Speaker 1: Bet gets $ 100 in bonus bets. Limited time only. My
- 32:20Speaker 1: name's J-Boy. I got that.
- 32:21Speaker 2: I got that.
- 32:24Speaker 1: It is Hutton and Withrow presented by Hard Rock Bet.
- 32:27Speaker 1: And each and every Wednesday, we go for the bundle.
- 32:31Speaker 1: Bet $ 5, get 100 in bonus bets. That's for new customers.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Right now, you download the app, hardrock.bet.com. Mark Howard brings
- 32:40Speaker 1: us to the bundle.
- 32:43Speaker 4: On first down, Smoker back in his own end zone,
- 32:45Speaker 4: going for the bundle.
- 32:46Speaker 3: He's got Bonner, who lays it out and catches the
- 32:50Speaker 3: ball down on the.
- 32:50Speaker 1: 7, and he's in for the touchdown. He was not touched.
- 32:54Speaker 1: He was not touched by the defender, Nate Coggins.
- 32:57Speaker 4: Jeff Smoker is a touchdown-throwing inferno.
- 33:01Speaker 3: It's 57-49, Nashville.
- 33:04Speaker 1: Always hit the over. Mark Howard, Daryl Hammond, RIP to both, man.
- 33:08Speaker 1: We honor them with going for the bundle with hard
- 33:11Speaker 1: rock bet. Chad, I'm taking Tennessee first quarter against Auburn
- 33:16Speaker 1: minus one and a half. Get off to a quick
- 33:18Speaker 1: start here. Go with the run game. Control the football.
- 33:22Speaker 1: I think Tennessee starts fast at home, and I'll take
- 33:25Speaker 1: minus one and a half in the first quarter.
- 33:27Speaker 2: I can see this being a game where if Tennessee
- 33:28Speaker 2: wins a toss, they're going to take the ball. A
- 33:31Speaker 2: lot of times when Josh Heupel feels like his defense
- 33:33Speaker 2: is playing well, he goes on defense first. That's what
- 33:36Speaker 2: happened this past weekend against Texas. I could definitely see
- 33:39Speaker 2: this one where they've got something scripted and they feel
- 33:41Speaker 2: like they can go score a touchdown on drive number one,
- 33:44Speaker 2: so they take the ball. So I don't hate that play, Hutton,
- 33:47Speaker 2: at all. I'm nervous because I don't know what Vegas
- 33:51Speaker 2: is seeing. This is very similar to Florida Ole Miss
- 33:54Speaker 2: last week. Northwestern lost 29-23. to Indiana last week. They
- 33:59Speaker 2: destroyed Colorado 41-6. Penn State just lost to Wisconsin at
- 34:04Speaker 2: home in year one under Matt Campbell. Northwestern is opening
- 34:08Speaker 2: their brand new stadium on the lake. This is a
- 34:11Speaker 2: Friday night game in a marquee spot in their brand
- 34:15Speaker 2: new home stadium that they're going to open. And Northwestern
- 34:19Speaker 2: is a two and a half point underdog? Give me
- 34:21Speaker 2: the Wildcats, Northwestern, Moneyline, not just to cover. Give me
- 34:25Speaker 2: the Moneyline as a slight underdog at home against Penn State.
- 34:28Speaker 2: That's going to be my leg of the parlay.
- 34:31Speaker 1: JT.
- 34:34Speaker 3: Georgia's defense remains elite, letting up just 13 points a game.
- 34:39Speaker 3: That's 18th in the country. Only giving up about 50
- 34:42Speaker 3: yards rushing. Vanderbilt's offense. has been just modest, I think
- 34:48Speaker 3: about 28 points per game. I really like, and you
- 34:52Speaker 3: also have to look ahead to Bama next week for Georgia.
- 34:55Speaker 3: I like the under a 50 and a half at
- 34:58Speaker 3: Hard Rock bet for Georgia Vandy.
- 35:01Speaker 2: This is, I think, the smartest play on this game.
- 35:04Speaker 2: And I fear, honestly, that Georgia could get over this
- 35:08Speaker 2: number themselves in this game, but that's not Kirby Smart's M.O.
- 35:12Speaker 2: I think they're going to get a 2-3 score lead
- 35:15Speaker 2: and that he's going to slow it up and just
- 35:17Speaker 2: suffocate Vandy in this game. So I like this play
- 35:21Speaker 2: a lot, JT, to go the under on that 50.5 points.
- 35:26Speaker 1: This is a good week for us, boys. Tennessee minus
- 35:28Speaker 1: 1.5 in the first quarter. Chad's got Northwestern Moneyline, and
- 35:32Speaker 1: JT's taking the under in Georgia and Vanderbilt. That's a
- 35:36Speaker 1: $ 5 wager. We'll pay out $ 44 on that three-bet parlay
- 35:40Speaker 1: going for the bundle this week with Hard Rock Betting. Hey,
- 35:43Speaker 1: let's win, gentlemen, shall we? I'm going to bet each
- 35:45Speaker 1: of these individually and parlay these together as well. I'm
- 35:49Speaker 1: parlaying it right now to make sure that we are
- 35:51Speaker 1: all winners this week. That's what's going to happen. I
- 35:53Speaker 1: feel good about it. Chad, I like it just because
- 35:56Speaker 1: Northwestern's opening up their stadium. They're not losing that game.
- 35:59Speaker 2: It feels too perfect for Northwestern.
- 36:03Speaker 1: They're coming up.
- 36:04Speaker 2: They played on Friday night, I think last week also,
- 36:07Speaker 2: against Indiana. So they get the full week to prepare
- 36:10Speaker 2: for another Friday night game.
- 36:11Speaker 1: It's the new stadium. Come on now.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Give me Northwestern. They're going to make this happen.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Let's check the weather as well because it's going to
- 36:18Speaker 1: be raining in Knoxville Saturday, right?
- 36:20Speaker 2: I did check the weather in that game.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Yes. It's going to be sunny.
- 36:24Speaker 2: It's looking like a lot of rain last check for
- 36:26Speaker 2: that Tennessee-Auburn game.
- 36:29Speaker 1: Meanwhile, Northwestern on Saturday, 62 and sunny. Perfect football weather.
- 36:36Speaker 1: I like that. It's not big game Beth weather.
- 36:39Speaker 2: For a Northwestern game, which is typically more 52 degrees
- 36:42Speaker 2: and overcast, but maybe high 40s. But this is perfect
- 36:45Speaker 2: football weather.
- 36:47Speaker 1: Meanwhile, Saturday in Athens, rains, that chance of storms, and
- 36:53Speaker 1: 84 degrees. So buckle up for scattered thunderstorms. Also helps
- 36:59Speaker 1: the underplay by JT, if that's the case. Yes, it does.
- 37:04Speaker 1: Does not help Jared Curtis all that well.
- 37:06Speaker 2: No, it's looking like, by the way, thunderstorms in 75
- 37:10Speaker 2: in Knoxville also.
- 37:11Speaker 1: I think that helps Tennessee in the run game too.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Texas is just different when it comes to stopping the run.
- 37:18Speaker 1: I think Tennessee gets right back on track against Auburn.
- 37:21Speaker 1: I don't think they can do what Texas just did
- 37:22Speaker 1: to them.
- 37:24Speaker 2: I also don't understand why Tennessee didn't try to run
- 37:26Speaker 2: the ball outside at all. There was no creativity in
- 37:30Speaker 2: the run game. It was just right up the middle
- 37:32Speaker 2: and beating your head up against a brick wall with
- 37:34Speaker 2: that Auburn defensive front. So, Look, Tennessee and Auburn both
- 37:38Speaker 2: want to run it, and Auburn's going to have more
- 37:40Speaker 2: design quarterback runs with Byron Brown than Tennessee will with
- 37:44Speaker 2: Faison Brandon. So I think this game, a lot of
- 37:47Speaker 2: it is going to be which defense is saltier against
- 37:50Speaker 2: the run in this game.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Right now, over under 54.5 for Tennessee and Auburn.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Pretty low scoring for these two teams, you'd think.
- 38:00Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, I still like the under in that,
- 38:03Speaker 1: just based on weather currently. I think that goes down
- 38:06Speaker 1: maybe a point or so. Seven and a half is
- 38:08Speaker 1: the spread. I haven't played that yet, Jed. I was
- 38:13Speaker 1: bold last week getting the points. I'm not bold enough
- 38:17Speaker 1: to take seven and a half yet against Auburn.
- 38:19Speaker 2: I need to see Tennessee bounce back. I need to
- 38:22Speaker 2: see it that this is not going to be a
- 38:24Speaker 2: trend of every SEC defense they face. They're going to
- 38:28Speaker 2: be unable to do anything. If I see them look
- 38:30Speaker 2: competent on offense on Saturday, I feel good about their defense.
- 38:35Speaker 2: from what I've seen so far this year, if they
- 38:36Speaker 2: look confident on offense, I'll be a lot more secure
- 38:39Speaker 2: in betting Tennessee moving forward with that next game at
- 38:42Speaker 2: Arkansas after they play Auburn.
- 38:44Speaker 1: Chad, fun show today. As October joins us tomorrow, we
- 38:49Speaker 1: will have our September Heisman Awards. We'll be handing out.
- 38:52Speaker 1: We've got our coach as well. We'll see how obvious
- 38:57Speaker 1: it is. Or if we've got some close debate, especially
- 39:01Speaker 1: when it comes to coach. Maybe not player, at least
- 39:04Speaker 1: not yet. We'll be back at it 8 o'clock Eastern
- 39:08Speaker 1: each morning right here at Sporting State for Hutton and
- 39:10Speaker 1: Withrow presented by Hard Rock Bet.
