- 0:19SPEAKER_01: Welcome to Haunted Ozark Theater.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: H.
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: O.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: T., your hot horror podcast.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: And right off the bat, we have to do a little housekeeping here.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: Last episode, we did movies from the year that we were born.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: And as I was editing and putting that episode together after we recorded it, I came across something that we got to address.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: During the 1985 part, which is your birth year, you said uh Day of the Dead.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: And then you proceeded to talk about Return of the Living Dead.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: I didn't catch that.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: And I was talking about Day of the Dead.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: But Return of the Living Dead did also come out in 85.
- 1:13SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 1:13SPEAKER_03: So we just got them mixed up.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: Year-wise, we were fine, but you were talking about Return of the Living Dead, and I was talking about Day of the Dead.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: And I it was not when I listened back to it, I'm like, what's going on here?
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: It's just not going together.
- 1:27SPEAKER_03: I'm sure other people were like, huh.
- 1:29SPEAKER_03: These guys don't watch horns.
- 1:33SPEAKER_03: That's funny.
- 1:34SPEAKER_03: Good catch point.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, all good.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: All good.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: So let's talk about this day in horror history.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: Um Cody's been sick.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: So I am going to go with the this day in horror history that I originally picked out for the day when we were supposed to record this.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: And it was the release date for Ghoulies 2.
- 1:58SPEAKER_03: Ghoulies 2?
- 1:59SPEAKER_03: Wow, that's an old one, isn't it?
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: Have you seen Ghoulies 1 and 2?
- 2:02SPEAKER_03: I've seen one.
- 2:03SPEAKER_03: I've never seen Part 2.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: You've never seen Part 2.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: No.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: Part 2.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: Well, first of all, for the listeners, Ghoulies is a Gremlins ripoff.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: Is that fair to say?
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: Oh, 100%.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: I read that they were actually in production at the same time.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: And they were in a race.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: The first two, yeah, Gremlins one and Ghoulies one were actually in production at the same time.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: And they were in a race to see who could get to the theater first and Gremlins one.
- 2:31SPEAKER_03: And maybe that's why they were more popular.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: Which one do you prefer?
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: Oh, Gremlins's okay.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: Way a better one.
- 2:36SPEAKER_03: Superior film, isn't it?
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: I did like the fact that in Ghoulies, each ghoulie was a unique design.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: Like in Gremlins, you know, like all the once they turned into green gremlins, they all kind of look the same.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: There's, you know, slight differences from one to the other.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: But in Ghoulies, they were all individually designed.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: You know, each one was had a very different look.
- 2:59SPEAKER_03: I think in part two, especially in Gremlins, they really went away from it.
- 3:03SPEAKER_03: Because you see the different the in they have their own characters, personalities.
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: Yes, that's that's for sure.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: Um Ghoulies Two uh goes like like a traveling circus, kind of a carnival thing.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: And the ghoulies like end up as part of the show in Ghoulies 2.
- 3:22SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and everybody who's who's there as the audience, they think it's like a trick or a sleight of hand or a it's a part of the show, not the part of the show.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: But then of course the ghoulies or the ghoulies they start wreaking havoc, and then people realize oh, this is these are real little monsters that are copyrighted.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: Is it fun?
- 3:44SPEAKER_03: Is it a good one?
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's funny, fun and funny.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's it's I mean, it's it's still ghoulies, right?
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: It's still a sequel that probably had a lower budget and a tighter time frame.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: So it's it's and you can tell watching it.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: I think so, but I mean it's that doesn't mean it's bad.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: No, not at all.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: Not at all.
- 4:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, sounds like it was made on like$37 in a pack of SEMA.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: Something like that.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: Something like that.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: Uh so let's talk about rewatching.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: What'd you like since you were home, sick.
- 4:13SPEAKER_03: I watched a lot.
- 4:14SPEAKER_03: This wasn't a rewatch, but one that you've seen that I wanted to watch it's an A24.
- 4:19SPEAKER_03: I think it came out in 2024.
- 4:21SPEAKER_03: Heretic.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 4:23SPEAKER_03: And I really, really enjoyed it.
- 4:25SPEAKER_03: I did too.
- 4:26SPEAKER_03: Uh Hugh Grant, I thought, you know, he's I don't think I've ever really seen this a bad guy in a lot of things.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: No, he's usually, you know, the the love interest, Mr.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: Romantic Sweetheart, but he plays a good, bad guy.
- 4:39SPEAKER_03: It does, and it asks a lot of questions.
- 4:41SPEAKER_03: You know, I love the uh monopoly metaphor he put in there, and you know, the recycled and the how music does it, and does religion do that?
- 4:49SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 4:50SPEAKER_03: And it really brought up some external questions to real, especially if you're really religious, that's things you can look at.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: No, for sure.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: There was some substance and some depth to that movie, and not to mention it was just a good creepy movie.
- 5:03SPEAKER_03: Movie it was, yeah.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, really enjoyed it, so thanks.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: I liked that.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: Uh, did you end up watching uh say it?
- 5:10SPEAKER_03: I know what you're gonna say of the body snatchers, great film.
- 5:12SPEAKER_03: Isn't it incredible?
- 5:14SPEAKER_03: It really is.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I just can't say enough about it.
- 5:17SPEAKER_03: It it really is a fantastic and like you said, it was on YouTube, yeah, and I wasn't feeling good, so it was kind of a great movie.
- 5:24SPEAKER_03: Okay, and when and I I had a horrible sinus infection, and I was just laid up in bed, and I was like, I'm gonna I'm gonna get to this movie, and I watched it, and it it kind of was a good marriage of the being sick and watching like bodies I could see that.
- 5:36SPEAKER_03: I could see that I can see this one being I'm gonna have to watch once a year.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: Did I oversell it or not at all?
- 5:42SPEAKER_03: No, okay, not at all.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: Because I think it's amazing, it is phenomenal phenomenal.
- 5:46SPEAKER_03: But I could see how I mean it just I think came out in the wrong time, or it could have been a lot more popular.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 5:51SPEAKER_03: You know.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: Now you told me you were gonna go to try to see Resident Evil.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: Did that happen?
- 5:55SPEAKER_03: No, no, I'm going to the yeah, I've heard it's great.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: I've heard nothing but good things about it.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: Uh my daughters went and saw it and they liked it quite a bit.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: And I kind of texted them and like, how come dad didn't get an invite?
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: But I think I actually I think I was working at Spirit.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: But um yeah, they said it was good, and I'm I'm pleased with all the the praise that it's been getting.
- 6:18SPEAKER_03: Uh I've heard more it's like a uh because the character isn't anyone from the video game, see more like a what do the kids call it?
- 6:24SPEAKER_03: Uh NPC.
- 6:26SPEAKER_03: Oh and you're seeing his like journey through the town, but he leaves things like you would see in the video game.
- 6:32SPEAKER_03: Like no, were you did you play Resident Evil much?
- 6:35SPEAKER_03: The original like you would find these notes from people, and he might be that person who left a note in the original game or something.
- 6:41SPEAKER_03: It's pretty neat.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: And it allows you to kind of insert yourself into the movie, you know.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I think I played up to part four.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: I I've I had number I had number four on the game.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: Village?
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, where they're in the village.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: I think after that, I never I don't think I played anymore after that.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: But yeah, those first four I I definitely was into.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: They're metal.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: What about you?
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: I watched a couple of 80s classics.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: Let's see.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: I watched the Prowler.
- 7:07SPEAKER_03: Prowler's a great one.
- 7:08SPEAKER_03: Great kills.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: So one thing that stuck out to me this time that I hadn't really thought of before is the Prowler has a cool look.
- 7:18SPEAKER_03: It's the uh army fatigue.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's like the like the World War II army guy.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: That would be a cool cosplay.
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: Like if I saw somebody at a con dressed prowler, that would be and it wouldn't be too bad.
- 7:32SPEAKER_03: You could go to your local uh Uncle Sam's house.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, go to a surplus store.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: I think that would be a super cool costume.
- 7:40SPEAKER_03: Do you know who directed that?
- 7:41SPEAKER_03: Tell me.
- 7:42SPEAKER_03: The guy who directed Friday 13th, part three.
- 7:44SPEAKER_03: Or four.
- 7:45SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry, part four.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, really?
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: Same guy, huh?
- 7:47unknown: Yep.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: The other 80s classic I watched is Night of the Comet.
- 7:53SPEAKER_03: Oh, good.
- 7:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's a fun one.
- 7:54SPEAKER_03: Night of the Comet is Yeah, a creature feature, right?
- 7:57SPEAKER_03: And or alien?
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: Uh well, it's like it's not alien, it's so the comet goes by.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: And it basically, if it doesn't turn you to dust, it turns you into a zombie.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: I'm thinking of a different one then.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: Have you seen Night of the Con?
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: Maybe not.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: Maybe not.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: This is good.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: It's it's like 84, I think, and it's like Southern California Valley Girl kind of a thing.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: Oh the two the the two girls who are the main character of their sisters, um one of them spent the night in a like a metal shed, and that protected her from the comet when it went by.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: And the other girl spent the night like in the radio station or something like that.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: I can't remember.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: And the the and they say something specifically about the radio station was built with like steel walls.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: Something like both of them were inside like so they weren't affected, metal boxes, basically.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: And so they're like the only two who weren't affected or affected.
- 9:03SPEAKER_03: So they're valley girls, and they're both valley girls, yeah.
- 9:06SPEAKER_03: And they really play off of that, I'm sure.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they there's a whole scene where like they go to the mall because they're they're like basically the last people on the earth, so they're like, let's go shopping at the mall.
- 9:14SPEAKER_03: It's like Shauna the Dead, but Valley Girls.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: Kind of, kind of, yeah.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: It's it's funny, but it's got some good um some good terror and some good kills.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: But yeah, so they say it's the same asteroid that came by and wiped out the dinosaurs.
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: Oh so it's not that the uh an asteroid hit the earth and wiped out the dinosaurs.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: They're saying this asteroid went by at the time of the dinosaurs and just did the same thing to them.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: So if you were like outside, you got turned to dust.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: If you were inside, maybe with a little bit more protection, zombie fied.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: You maybe survived, but then you turned into a zombie.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: So yeah, night of the comet, check it out.
- 9:56SPEAKER_03: Well, there's a night, there's an 80s movie I was checking out last week in in my sickness.
- 10:01SPEAKER_03: It was like a fever dream movie.
- 10:02SPEAKER_03: I can't, it's something birthday, but it's about these three kids, and uh on their day of their birthday, a comet comes by and they're born without a soul.
- 10:13SPEAKER_03: And they just love killing.
- 10:14SPEAKER_03: And they're these kids killing people, dude.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: They just love killing.
- 10:18SPEAKER_03: I'll get the name of it.
- 10:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'll have to check it out.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: Okay, that's awesome.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: All right, so the main event this week, we're gonna talk about extreme, the most extreme.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: Like when the we we said that the the topic is when horror takes it too far.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: Which that's a question we can talk about.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: Like, can you take it too far if you're talking about horror?
- 10:43SPEAKER_03: Um you know and it's you certain points in the timeline, you go, well, this is too far.
- 10:49SPEAKER_03: But look at what we see now from 20 years ago, well, that ain't nothing.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: You know, which is scary.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: It's subjective to each person, and it's definitely uh dependent on you know when it came out, you know.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: But there are some that I've and I've these are the ones I've put on my list that I would say are pretty offensive in any era.
- 11:11SPEAKER_03: I've got that too, but I kind of did like a a little bit of a history and the progression, and like one of the first ones I wanted to talk about.
- 11:19SPEAKER_03: Say we were back in the 60s.
- 11:21SPEAKER_03: Uh would Psycho be cons because you had monster movies, you had scary movies, and did Psycho really change things, you think?
- 11:28SPEAKER_03: Like, oh my gosh, they killed off the main lady first, and the brutality of it kind of like for sure, yeah.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: I think that it definitely probably terrified and scarred some people at the time.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: And you know, we talked about the man, I now I'm drawing a blank on the name, but I told you about that movie that came out just like six months before it.
- 11:49SPEAKER_03: And yes, I remember that, yeah, but it did horrible.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because they were like, this is too way too far, you know.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: But it's essentially the same movie, same movie as Psycho, but just six months later it was acceptable, you know.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: Um anyway, Peeping Tom, that's what it's called.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: Peeping Tom, yeah.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:08SPEAKER_03: But it wasn't by Hitchcock, so no very big.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, I don't know if you know he didn't have the whole Hollywood money behind him, and he didn't maybe didn't have the big name recognition behind him.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: But it was essentially the same movie, and everybody said, This is this one took it way too far.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: It's totally unacceptable.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: And then six months later, Psycho comes out, and everyone's like, Oh, that's scary, and I'm and I'm kind of wrecked over it, but we can get over it.
- 12:34SPEAKER_03: We'll let that one slide.
- 12:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know.
- 12:36SPEAKER_03: That's funny how things like that happen.
- 12:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: The first one I wanted to talk about is a movie that got a lot of flack for taking it too far, but it didn't actually take it too far, and that's Cannibal Holocaust.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: I got that.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's my first one.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so Cannibal Holocaust was that 80, 1980?
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: So if you haven't seen it, um, I mean it's pretty it's pretty graphic.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: Well, it's so graphic that most people believed it was real.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: And they went to court over it, and they did have to go to court over it, and the director had to produce the actors to prove that they were actually alive.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: So people thought, A, this was a not just found footage, but like true footage of this incursion into the jungle, right?
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: And then they thought that the uh murders they saw on screen were real, right?
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: And so all all of it, of course, wasn't fake, it was all movie tricks, and that was proved in like you said, in court.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: So it ended up not being a case of taking it too far, but it definitely got blamed for taking it too far.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: That being said, there is one thing that they did take too far.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: The animals, yeah.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: If you saw animals die on screen, they actually killed those animals for uh for filming the movie.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: So that's one instance where they did take it too far, but as far as the um human beings go, they didn't take it too far, but they got blamed for taking it too far.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: So I wanted to open with that one.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: Awesome.
- 14:15SPEAKER_03: Uh, I wanted to go down the line kind of like that, uh how we got where we're on there from those movies, like we said, Psycho 80s.
- 14:22SPEAKER_03: Well, 70s, I would say, even though you don't see any blood or guts or anything, Texas Chainsaw kind of starts changing.
- 14:30SPEAKER_03: 80s, you have Cannibal Holocaust.
- 14:33SPEAKER_03: Do you any more in the 80s that really were like this is too much?
- 14:38SPEAKER_03: Uh because I couldn't really that were like pushing the envelope where like this is disgusting, a video nasty, but not at that extent.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: They were pushing it, but it was like practical effects that were impressive but obviously fake.
- 14:54SPEAKER_03: Fake, right?
- 14:55SPEAKER_03: You know.
- 14:55SPEAKER_03: So then I'm gonna jump to the early 2000s.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: That's where pretty much all mine come from.
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I wanted to start with the one I seen, and it changed.
- 15:04SPEAKER_03: I thought it was the first scary movie I actually really saw.
- 15:07SPEAKER_03: And that's the O make the remake of 03, Texas Chainsaw.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 15:11SPEAKER_03: And then that opened the door.
- 15:13SPEAKER_03: We got the 04 saw, and then Hostel and Thanks.
- 15:16SPEAKER_03: It was people, how do we talk one of another one another?
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: The the beginning of torture form is what they kind of call it.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, for sure.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: Oh the cardinal sin.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: He didn't silence us off now.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: I um really in researching this topic, I really dove into what they call French extremity.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: Have you heard of this?
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: Basically from 20 from 2000 to 2010, the French were like, let's see how far we can take it.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: And it it was like a 10-year run, and they they've named it French Extremity, like the the season of French Extremity or whatever.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: So it's like the French went hard during this time trying to do the craziest stuff just for the sake of going crazy, just to see if you know what they could get away with and how uncomfortable they could make us.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: So um the first one, which got a lot of flack because it was this one came out like 01-02, got a lot of flack because it was one of the earlier examples.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: When I watched it recently, I didn't think it was as bad as I remembered it being.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: It's called High Tension.
- 16:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I've seen High Tension, and I I remember the hype for that movie.
- 16:42SPEAKER_03: And yeah, I I didn't think it was so horrible, horrible.
- 16:44SPEAKER_03: No, I mean it's pretty brutal.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: The ending got was yeah, I don't know how I felt about that.
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: It's pretty brutal, but it's it was one of the earliest examples of French extremity.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: And it got a lot of flack when it came out for just for how for how much it pushed the envelope.
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: Okay, and at the time I could see, you know, yeah, this is this is what was that 02?
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: About 02, I think.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but watching it more recently, you're like, eh, this is a slasher.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: It's your average which kind of goes to your point, which is when did it come out?
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: If that came out today, people would say, like, well, that's pretty much what I expect from the violent natures or the or even like the newer scream movies, like this is pretty standard, you know.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: But then in 02, it's like, whoa, what are we doing here?
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: Right, all right, yeah, but then this one, this other French extremity example that I watched, watched it back in the day, rewatched it, and this one is hardcore.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: But I stand by the fact that this is a really good movie and not to be missed.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: Martyrs.
- 17:54SPEAKER_03: I was just gonna say martyrs, yeah.
- 17:56SPEAKER_03: I think that's on everyone's list.
- 17:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's really hard to watch in some parts, but it's a good movie.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: What year did that come up with?
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: I think 08, I think.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: Okay, so it's not that old.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: No, but this is one of those ones where it's not just gore for the sake of gore, it's got a really compelling story.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: It's hard to watch, man.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: It is hard to watch, but it is it's a good movie.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: It is, it's a really well done movie with a good story that pulls you in.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: You get invested in these girls, you know, and you you feel horrible.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: It's yeah, sickening.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: But you want to see like what's happen, what's gonna happen next, right?
- 18:38SPEAKER_03: You know, so on the flip side of that coin is a movie that was made in um 2011.
- 18:44SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 18:45SPEAKER_03: And it's a Siberian film.
- 18:47SPEAKER_03: And I watched this and I will never recommend this film, I'll never watch it again.
- 18:53SPEAKER_03: It to me, it's grotesque and violent and sickening just for that sake.
- 18:58SPEAKER_03: A Serbian film.
- 18:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, if it's serving a society, some kind of social message, that's fine.
- 19:05SPEAKER_03: But you there's certain things you do not have to do to get to that point.
- 19:10SPEAKER_03: And that, I don't know if you've ever watched it.
- 19:12SPEAKER_03: Don't if you haven't.
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: Well, I was gonna save that for last.
- 19:15SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: Because it is on my list, and I have seen it.
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: I did not re-watch it.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: This this couple weeks.
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: I saw it in the one time, I never watched it again.
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: I don't recommend anybody watch it.
- 19:29SPEAKER_03: It'll ruin your day.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: It'll ruin your whole life, dude.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: Like this is probably the only one on my list where I've seen it once, will never watch it again.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: I've got one more.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: And I would say, in the argument of can horror take it too far?
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: I would say yes.
- 19:50SPEAKER_03: This isn't horror to me.
- 19:51SPEAKER_03: And this one does take it too far.
- 19:52SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
- 19:53SPEAKER_03: This was it's beyond that.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: I hear what you're saying.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: I hear what you're saying.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: Um, it's it's it's just crazy.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: But I will say, because you know they took it too far.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: You mentioned like well, if it had a message, well, I was doing some research because I was wondering the same thing.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: Like, why you why did we why did somebody make this?
- 20:16SPEAKER_03: What were you trying to say?
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: Um, I guess Serbia went through some really crazy um war in the late 90s.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: It's like the Balkans genocide and the like there's I'm not totally familiar with you know the history and and all that, but there was a major entanglement in Serbia in the late 90s, and it pretty much just wrecked everybody in the country.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: Like if you weren't directly affected, you knew somebody who was and people died, and people were forced to kill, and they had to live with the PTSD and stuff like that.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: So supposedly, according to the director, um Serbian film is meant to kind of deal with the aftermath of that war.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: Just the grief of like the nation's grief.
- 21:14SPEAKER_03: I didn't feel that in this film.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: Did you did you get that?
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: The the grief of a nation, you know, twelve years or so after this terrible genocide and and but yes, I I um didn't I had to be told that.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: I didn't pick up on that on my own.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: And even now, knowing that, I still don't think I could watch it and be like, oh, okay, now I get it.
- 21:46SPEAKER_03: It's no, I won't want to.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: It's a very troubling movie.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: Very, very troubling movie.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: And if you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about.
- 21:59SPEAKER_01: If you haven't seen it, Don't no, I would just take our words encourage you to watch it.
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: Not at all.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: But if you do watch it, you'll you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: But I was gonna save that one for the end for because for me, that is That's the takes the cherry.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: That's the yeah.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: There's nothing more outside of the realm of acceptable to me than a Serbian film.
- 22:27SPEAKER_03: What's your next one?
- 22:28SPEAKER_03: No, you go.
- 22:29SPEAKER_03: You want me to go?
- 22:30SPEAKER_03: Have you heard of Headless?
- 22:32SPEAKER_03: I have not.
- 22:33SPEAKER_03: It's 2015.
- 22:35SPEAKER_03: It's uh grindhouse style, and it's a film found in a film.
- 22:40SPEAKER_03: I think the original movie, it's like telling the story in this movie called Found, and then they actually made the movie.
- 22:46SPEAKER_03: But it's uh if you can make it past the first five minutes, you're doing good.
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 22:52SPEAKER_03: It involves a decapitation of a woman and the man having sex with the head.
- 22:57SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
- 22:58SPEAKER_03: Right off the bat.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
- 23:00SPEAKER_03: It's uh it's hardcore, intense.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: Let's you know what you're in for.
- 23:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but it's it's telling a story, and that it's it's intriguing.
- 23:08SPEAKER_03: I can say that.
- 23:08SPEAKER_03: It's hard, hardcore, dude.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: Now, is this an American production?
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: It's American, yeah.
- 23:14SPEAKER_03: And you're either really, really gonna love it and go, wow, this is something else, or go, this is sickening.
- 23:19SPEAKER_03: And I don't know how I feel about it yet.
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: Huh.
- 23:22SPEAKER_03: It's uh it was hard to watch.
- 23:25SPEAKER_03: There was some, but it was like, this is whore.
- 23:28SPEAKER_03: I definitely felt that part.
- 23:30SPEAKER_03: Headless 2015.
- 23:32SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: Huh.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: No, I'm totally unfamiliar with that one.
- 23:35SPEAKER_03: Okay, you check that out.
- 23:36SPEAKER_03: Make sure no one else is at your house when you do.
- 23:39SPEAKER_01: Make sure the kids don't know.
- 23:40SPEAKER_03: Or your wife might.
- 23:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's it's hard.
- 23:46SPEAKER_03: It's hard.
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, is it a director I've heard of, or any known actors in it?
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: No, not at all.
- 23:51SPEAKER_03: It's just somebody it almost feels like a movie that you found in your grandpa's garage or something on the old VHS, and it's almost like a snuff film.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: It's like the shapes that he finds in Sinister.
- 24:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but yeah, and you're watching this story, it it's messed up, man.
- 24:09SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, endless.
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: Check it out.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: Maybe, maybe not yet.
- 24:16SPEAKER_01: I'm definitely gonna look into it.
- 24:18SPEAKER_03: But they push the envelope.
- 24:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:20SPEAKER_03: They are pushing it.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: Huh.
- 24:22SPEAKER_03: And the story of this is uh child abuse, psychological stuff that happened, stuff like that.
- 24:28SPEAKER_01: How did you hear about this one?
- 24:30SPEAKER_03: Uh I heard about this years ago when I was my thing was I was looking up unknown masked killers.
- 24:37SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 24:37SPEAKER_03: Because my whole thing, and he wears a skull mask.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 24:41SPEAKER_03: So and I was like your love for masks got me to that.
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: Brought you to Headless.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 24:48SPEAKER_03: It's not a movie I would I would recommend to everybody.
- 24:53SPEAKER_03: If you are a hardcore horror fan, and I you you know something you might want to try out.
- 24:59SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 24:59SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm intrigued.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna I'm I'm not gonna say I'm totally turned off by your description, but I don't know.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna research it with some cautious optimism.
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay.
- 25:10SPEAKER_03: And see if we'll see if I if I take the well if you want to watch it, maybe we'll watch it together.
- 25:15SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 25:17SPEAKER_03: So you can be like, Cody, you're a freak.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: Next one I want to talk about, and this one didn't do anything for me, but it's notorious, and it definitely took it to places that you wouldn't even dream of.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: Um and uh this also falls into the why category.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: Why why did this ever get made?
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: Human synapse.
- 25:47SPEAKER_03: It's funny you you know why he made that?
- 25:49SPEAKER_03: I did some research on that.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 25:51SPEAKER_03: So the director was sitting around one night.
- 25:53SPEAKER_03: I don't know his name.
- 25:54SPEAKER_03: He's an American dude.
- 25:55SPEAKER_03: And I think he's American.
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: It's uh Tom Six, right?
- 25:59SPEAKER_03: Yes, yeah, and uh he was like seeing this child rapist in quarter septic, and he was like, you know what they need to do to these people?
- 26:06SPEAKER_03: Oh find the dirtiest truck drivers and stuff like that around and have their faces sewn to their buttholes.
- 26:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and that's where he got the idea for that.
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: Well, I've I've seen him say that or heard or read the clip of him saying that.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: And again, it's like, okay, that's where the idea came from.
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: But that doesn't answer the question of why do we need this?
- 26:27SPEAKER_01: We don't.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: Why no what made you think this is something that needs to be made and needs to be seen?
- 26:35SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 26:36SPEAKER_03: That's did you ever watch two and three?
- 26:39SPEAKER_01: I have seen two.
- 26:41SPEAKER_01: That's the one in the jail, right?
- 26:42SPEAKER_03: No, that's part three.
- 26:44SPEAKER_03: That's part three?
- 26:45SPEAKER_03: Part three is where they're in the prison.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: Okay, well then yeah, I've seen all three.
- 26:48SPEAKER_03: So part two is where I stopped.
- 26:50SPEAKER_03: I didn't watch three.
- 26:51SPEAKER_03: I know threes were in there, but the baby and the pedal, I was like, nah, I can't do this anymore.
- 26:57SPEAKER_03: I was like, I'm done with this movie, dude.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: I scratched that from my memory that part.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, I mean, so we're asking why did they make this?
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: And then why did they make two more?
- 27:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:13SPEAKER_03: What in the world?
- 27:14SPEAKER_03: I thought it was intriguing the story when you find out part two that that first one's a movie, and the guys love that he, you know, the the fat dude, and and then you find out that Prison Morton part three seen that movie.
- 27:26SPEAKER_01: So that's yeah, now that you're saying that, two is coming back to me.
- 27:29SPEAKER_01: And yeah, one inspired the next.
- 27:31SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay.
- 27:32SPEAKER_01: I got you now.
- 27:33SPEAKER_03: I can live without any more human centipedes, I'll tell you that.
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we don't need any more of those.
- 27:37SPEAKER_01: I don't think we need any more.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:38SPEAKER_03: The funniest thing that when I think about human centipede though, I'm not a huge South Park fan, but they made fun of this, and it's just Oh, really?
- 27:47SPEAKER_03: If you you look up Human Centipede South Park, I almost pee my pants from laughing so hard.
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: I have no, I haven't seen that.
- 27:54SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm not a huge South Park fan either, but I will every once in a while on YouTube or something, yeah, catch one of their parodies and um some of them make me laugh, some of them I'm like, eh.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I'd be interested to see that one.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: But yeah, this is uh uh a movie that's very unique and very graphic, but that's really about all it's bringing to the table.
- 28:20SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 28:21SPEAKER_03: I couldn't agree more.
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: And I I don't know anybody.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: I know people, I know a lot of people who have said it, seen it, but I don't know a lot of, I don't know anybody.
- 28:30SPEAKER_03: I've never heard anyone saying, Yeah, let's let's have a watch party one, two, and three.
- 28:34SPEAKER_03: And I'm sure there's somebody out there.
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I've never heard anybody say, Oh, I like that movie.
- 28:38SPEAKER_03: No, I didn't like it, I didn't enjoy it.
- 28:41SPEAKER_03: I don't they don't do anything for me, and I love whore, and I try to find like okay, but there was nothing where it's like, I want to go back, yeah, and uh this is something I can enjoy.
- 28:52SPEAKER_03: I can.
- 28:53SPEAKER_03: I couldn't find it.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: I don't want to necessarily feel sorry for the people I'm seeing on the screen.
- 29:03SPEAKER_03: That's I don't yeah, maybe that's it.
- 29:05SPEAKER_03: It's like I don't know.
- 29:07SPEAKER_03: Do you in a way you kind of want to feel like, hey, don't die, but are you talking in a different sense?
- 29:13SPEAKER_01: Like well, like so if you're perpetrating violence against somebody, usually in horror movies, the person who is perpetrating the violence against the other people, usually the other people either deserve it, like in the case of like a revenge movie, or the perpetrator is kind of he's insane, or he's supernatural, or he's there's something to explain away his behavior.
- 29:47SPEAKER_03: Well, how would you feel about the movie Tuss then?
- 29:51SPEAKER_03: Because I felt you feel so horrible for Justin Long.
- 29:54SPEAKER_03: Yes, he's just uh uh what was he a podcaster and he just yeah and he did nothing?
- 29:59SPEAKER_03: Do you feel were you like or did some sick part of you because you're into the body?
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: No, I felt I felt sorry for Justin Long for sure, but that movie had I guess more redeeming qualities than hum you think so?
- 30:15SPEAKER_01: Than Human Cinepede.
- 30:17SPEAKER_01: I don't know, but like when I'm watch when I watched Human Cinepede, all I felt was like I just feel sorry for these three people.
- 30:25SPEAKER_03: That's it, yeah.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: That's it, that's it.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: Normally, if there's a crazy person killing three people in the context of a horror movie, yeah, I get what you're saying.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: I'm not feeling sorry for it.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: Like I'm I'm just, you know.
- 30:42SPEAKER_03: They broke one of the cardinal sins in order.
- 30:45SPEAKER_03: The sex, the drugs, they're a jerk, that yeah, okay.
- 30:48SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 30:48SPEAKER_03: These people did not think to deserve what happened to them.
- 30:52SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 30:53SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I guess that's that's yeah, that's my that's what I'm trying to explain.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: Not and I'm not doing that.
- 31:01SPEAKER_01: I understand that.
- 31:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you get me.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: Hopefully the audience gets me.
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: I'm not some heartless like but yeah, I mean a lot of the a lot of the time they're fodder.
- 31:15SPEAKER_03: Canon fodder.
- 31:16SPEAKER_01: They're they're fodder and they're there to be, you know, cut up exploring for our entertainment.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, and in that sense, like, you know, yeah, I don't I don't feel sorry for them, and I'm not supposed to.
- 31:28SPEAKER_03: No, not at all.
- 31:29SPEAKER_03: But in this, it's just like, yeah, this is in each one of them.
- 31:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, and then it doesn't get better.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: The front and the back dies, and the girl in the middle is still alive.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: Like, that's hardcore.
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: That's hardcore, man.
- 31:45SPEAKER_01: Really hardcore.
- 31:46SPEAKER_03: So you're saying you think you could have enjoyed it more if they were at least jerks or something, and they is that what I'm getting from you?
- 31:55SPEAKER_01: Uh I don't know if I would have enjoyed it more, but I think maybe that would be one less issue that I would have with it with the movie, you know?
- 32:02SPEAKER_01: If they did.
- 32:03SPEAKER_03: I think that was intentional though, to make it where there's nothing to feel sympathy.
- 32:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know.
- 32:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:08SPEAKER_01: And I I get that.
- 32:10SPEAKER_01: Like sometimes, you know, there's no redeeming quality to what you're watching sometimes.
- 32:17SPEAKER_01: But you know, I I want there to be a point, you know, I want to be entertained first and foremost.
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 32:23SPEAKER_01: And my twisted brain entertained is entertained by you know the the blood and violence most of the time.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I was not entertained by it.
- 32:32SPEAKER_03: Makes me think in 20 years we'll sit in a peed and beer and fit.
- 32:37SPEAKER_03: Well, oh well, that ain't nothing now.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: Man, I hope not.
- 32:40SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean though?
- 32:41SPEAKER_03: Because I was looking back and I can remember Saul and then Hostel, and we started getting like these remakes were 10 times like uh The Hills Have Eyes.
- 32:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:51SPEAKER_03: And it was so hardcore, and the Devil's rejects, and you started, it was just like everyone had to try to top the other one, and it's like, where does this end?
- 33:01SPEAKER_03: And I we've pulled back now because our horror movies definitely ain't like that mid-2000s, not at all.
- 33:08SPEAKER_01: That was there was I don't know if it was a post-9-11 thing, but there was something something lasted about 10 years where it was like we're gonna push the envelope.
- 33:21SPEAKER_03: I know I think a lot of that was the Sol in hostels.
- 33:24SPEAKER_03: I really didn't for sure.
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: I mean, the the the torture porn explosion uh the early 2000s definitely fueled that, but what was the genesis of it?
- 33:42SPEAKER_03: You read that article after 9-11 and how yeah self-consciously, yeah, it screwed all of us up in a way, didn't it?
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: Our worldview, whether we realized it or not.
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: And that in turn changed the art that we made.
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: And it did.
- 33:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 33:58SPEAKER_03: But there's some crazy movies out there, man.
- 34:00SPEAKER_03: That uh you got another one?
- 34:02SPEAKER_03: Oh my the rest I had were just how it started changing in the early 2000s.
- 34:07SPEAKER_03: Okay, and how we I how we've got there.
- 34:10SPEAKER_03: And are we do you think we'll get back there?
- 34:12SPEAKER_03: I mean, we had in a violent nature, yeah, and that I don't know if I told you this.
- 34:17SPEAKER_03: So there was a secret screening.
- 34:19SPEAKER_03: I saw that, and I've seen about 50% loved it, and another 50% were the same people I watched for the first reviews who went, I don't know why anyone likes this.
- 34:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and but they said, if you think that yoga kill was anything, it each kills like the yoga kill in this one.
- 34:36SPEAKER_03: Yes, and that's like woo, that's music to my ears.
- 34:39SPEAKER_01: Well, I saw that uh based on the audience reactions, and we're we're straying a little bit off topic here, but that's okay.
- 34:48SPEAKER_01: Um, based on the audience reaction, it's about to undergo some heavy reshoots.
- 34:53SPEAKER_03: Right, and it's not coming out in December.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's not.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: Nope, they pushed it.
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: I didn't hear that part.
- 34:58SPEAKER_01: I was I was worried that the reshoots meant that it was gonna get pushed.
- 35:02SPEAKER_01: Which I'm kind of glad.
- 35:03SPEAKER_01: Well, what I heard was a lot of the complaints were that what they got away from in this new one is the following Johnny in silence aspect of the first movie.
- 35:19SPEAKER_01: And it's more in the campers, and that's what made the first one so great and unique, and so they got rid of that, and now apparently that's what they're bringing back with the reshoots.
- 35:31SPEAKER_01: Is so we will get the camera over Johnny's shoulder following him in silence.
- 35:37SPEAKER_03: Broke don't fix it.
- 35:38SPEAKER_03: I know a lot of people don't like that movie, it's not their bag, but I thought that was what brilliant.
- 35:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I did too.
- 35:43SPEAKER_03: No soundtrack, right?
- 35:44SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 35:45SPEAKER_03: It's eerie, but yeah, sorry to get off topic.
- 35:48SPEAKER_03: That's kind of my baby I love in a violent nature.
- 35:50SPEAKER_03: Sorry.
- 35:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, and and like you know, the yoga kill is a good example of that might be too far for somebody, right?
- 35:59SPEAKER_01: And if this next movie, every kill is in that ballpark, then yeah, this this is this could be maybe a future movie that we say, man, that one took it, maybe took it too far.
- 36:12SPEAKER_03: In the sense we talk about these horror movies pushing it too far.
- 36:16SPEAKER_03: And do we want to get to the it's the sake of gore just for gore?
- 36:20SPEAKER_03: Because I I mean, I I do love some horror movies just for the gore, but like terrifier, I I'm liking the story now, but I don't want it to go, well, it's just get the kills.
- 36:30SPEAKER_03: Let's the story can be dumbed down.
- 36:33SPEAKER_03: I don't want that, man.
- 36:34SPEAKER_01: No, me either.
- 36:35SPEAKER_01: I I I love the blood and gore.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: That's that's what I'm here for.
- 36:41SPEAKER_01: I especially love it if it was done through a practical effect.
- 36:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 36:46SPEAKER_01: Love it.
- 36:47SPEAKER_01: But I want it to tell an intriguing story, an engaging story.
- 36:53SPEAKER_01: It makes it so much better.
- 36:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I want to be invested.
- 36:57SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 36:58SPEAKER_01: I yeah, I'm not invested if it's just a showcase for effect for special effects.
- 37:03SPEAKER_03: Uh human centipede.
- 37:05SPEAKER_01: Am I right?
- 37:06SPEAKER_03: Am I right?
- 37:07SPEAKER_01: I definitely wasn't invested.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: You got any more?
- 37:09SPEAKER_01: I got one more.
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: It's here.
- 37:11SPEAKER_01: Since um we already talked about Serbian film, the only other one on my list here that we haven't talked about is Antichrist.
- 37:17SPEAKER_03: Oh, William Defoe.
- 37:19SPEAKER_03: We talked about that a while back.
- 37:20SPEAKER_03: It made a list on something.
- 37:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we did once before.
- 37:24SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, this was Lars von Trier.
- 37:27SPEAKER_03: That's a tough one to watch too, and I did not enjoy it.
- 37:29SPEAKER_03: It was, I don't know.
- 37:31SPEAKER_03: It felt like I needed to take a shower after like Requiem for a Dream.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: That's a good description.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: Now, the whole movie is not like that, but there are two or three scenes that make up Antichrist that will test your limits a hundred percent.
- 37:48SPEAKER_01: And like you said, I think that was the perfect thing to say.
- 37:51SPEAKER_01: When it's over, you're gonna feel like you need a shower.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:55SPEAKER_01: Would you recommend it?
- 38:00SPEAKER_01: Honestly, I think the only movie on my list that I would fullheartedly recommend is Martyrs.
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 38:11SPEAKER_01: I would because I think Martyrs is fantastic.
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: I think it's a really well done movie.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: I think it has a great story, it's super interesting, but it's really out there as far as the the violence goes.
- 38:24SPEAKER_01: But it's got it's got a lot to offer besides the violence.
- 38:29SPEAKER_03: Unlike the other films we were talking about.
- 38:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, good, great point.
- 38:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 38:33SPEAKER_03: I think I would agree totally with you on that sentiment.
- 38:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 38:36SPEAKER_03: I I think I would go with you on that.
- 38:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I don't really recommend you watching any of the other ones.
- 38:40SPEAKER_01: Antichrist is first of all, it's it's Lars von Trier, which you either love him or you don't.
- 38:49SPEAKER_01: And for me, personally, uh, he's a little too artsy for me.
- 38:54SPEAKER_03: It is an artsy film.
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: Like everything he does artsy fartsy is very artsy and and it just doesn't really do much for me in that regard.
- 39:04SPEAKER_01: That being said, uh this might be not his only movie, but this is one of his films that you could classify as a true horror film.
- 39:17SPEAKER_01: Because not all his movies deal with horror.
- 39:21SPEAKER_01: Um but it just and there's some detestable things going on, like I said, and especially in two or three scenes of uh of the movie, but uh yeah, just not my cup of tea, is what I would say.
- 39:35SPEAKER_01: I would say it's got it's got like we were talking about it having no redeeming qualities.
- 39:41SPEAKER_01: This movie has definitely some redeeming qualities, but it's not not my cup of tea.
- 39:46SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 39:46SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah, awesome.
- 39:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:49SPEAKER_01: Alright, that is extreme.
- 39:53SPEAKER_01: Did they take it too far in horror?
- 39:56SPEAKER_01: And I would love to hear what listeners have to say about can you take it too far?
- 40:03SPEAKER_01: What what's uh what's one that took it too far in your opinion, you know?
- 40:09SPEAKER_01: And like you said, what does the future hold?
- 40:11SPEAKER_01: Well, and everybody's different, everyone's different, yeah.
- 40:15SPEAKER_01: But yeah, if there is no limit to how far we can go, then what does the future hold?
- 40:20SPEAKER_03: You know, it's uh it could be a bumpy ride.
- 40:22SPEAKER_01: It could be a bumpy ride.
- 40:25SPEAKER_01: I would not want every movie that comes out to be like a Serbian film.
- 40:30SPEAKER_03: Not at no, but it would ruin everything.
- 40:33SPEAKER_03: No, not at all.
- 40:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that would not be.
- 40:34SPEAKER_03: And I'm not like Paul said, I do not recommend 99% of these films to just an uh app, even just someone who casually watches horror guys.
- 40:44SPEAKER_01: Um we watched them so that you don't have to.
- 40:47SPEAKER_03: I like that.
- 40:48SPEAKER_03: There you go, yeah.
- 40:50SPEAKER_01: Um and because you know, we're just fans of the genre and we want to experience the full spectrum of horror spectrum, yeah.
- 40:57SPEAKER_01: And we do that, uh, and and we definitely do that.
- 41:00SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it's it's sometimes you you gotta take the good with the bad.
- 41:04SPEAKER_01: Yes, sir.
- 41:04SPEAKER_03: And we took the bad today.
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:10SPEAKER_01: Um next episode, we're gonna talk about when the sequel is better than the original.
- 41:19SPEAKER_01: This could be controversial.
- 41:21SPEAKER_00: I hope let's argue over it.
- 41:23SPEAKER_01: We could hurt each other's feelings, we could hurt some uh uh listeners' feelings with this next.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: But this is gonna be fun, and I'm excited about this.
- 41:32SPEAKER_01: Uh so tune tune back in next week for the next episode, which is uh when sequels are better than the original.
- 41:44SPEAKER_01: And it doesn't necessarily have to be a part two.
- 41:46SPEAKER_03: See, that's what I did though, but you're absolutely right.
- 41:49SPEAKER_03: But I wanted to find the true sequel.
- 41:51SPEAKER_03: So that's but I was so if you found like a part five and it's better than one, by all means do it.
- 41:56SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah.
- 41:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was thinking like, you know, if it's if it came after the first one, it's a sequel.
- 42:03SPEAKER_01: But I see what you're saying too.
- 42:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but yeah, let's let's let's dig in and talk about it.
- 42:07SPEAKER_01: Let's do it till next time.
- 42:08SPEAKER_01: Take care, y'all.
