- 0:00Bats are going to give him a significant You're going to have
- 0:02a ton of money to spend. Why not put it in one of the top
- 0:06three offensive players in the league?
- 0:15We're going to be looking at Aaron Judge and saying that he
- 0:18can't win the big game, Michael Jordan said.
- 0:20I played 82 games. You don't see LeBron doing that
- 0:24a game. Where you got to go for four?
- 0:26I told you giant things. Saquon Barkley, at this moment,

- 2:31man? Not a just enjoying the heat.
- 2:34You're enjoying this. Yeah, it's not too bad.
- 2:37I mean, I've got about 18 different tan lines working
- 2:39right now, but got some, got some things to blow up and going
- 2:44to hang out with some friends and family and chill and grill
- 2:49out, eat too much and, you know, do the normal stuff.
- 2:52Got a got the good old 4th of July gear ready to go.
- 2:56Got me some new some new trunks. You always have to add every
- 2:59year to the. You have a swimming pool at your
- 3:01house. No, no.
- 3:04So you're going to a friend's house.
- 3:05You're hanging out at a friend's house and.
- 3:06Laughing out, we're kind of going to be all over the place.
- 3:10Like my son's going to be at the lake with all of his buddies.
- 3:13Yeah, they're too cool to hang out with parents anymore.
- 3:15They just, they just want money for fireworks at this point.
- 3:18So they're going to do all that and hang out and it'll just kind
- 3:22of bounce around from from. Friends and family tell them not
- 3:24to hang out with JPP because we all know what happened to.
- 3:27JPP. Hanging out with fireworks and
- 3:29shooting them up. And if you're a fish.
- 3:32And by the way, thanks. Thanks to all the fans reaching
- 3:35out to me and asking me where fish was.
- 3:37Fish was out. He's celebrating his anniversary
- 3:39with his wife. I enjoy the five day vacation.
- 3:43He's back for a Wednesday show. No, we're not going to have a
- 3:46show tomorrow. It's I guess 4th of July eve.
- 3:50I'll be with my mother, taking care of some things with her.
- 3:54So we are decided to move the show to Wednesday, obviously for
- 3:59family reasons, but happy 4th of July.
- 4:02To all the friends and families out there listening to our show
- 4:05right now, this is my. Favorite.
- 4:07Yes, this is my favorite holiday of the year.
- 4:10I don't know why it is, but for some reason it is.
- 4:13Everybody likes Halloween, they like Christmas because of the
- 4:15gifts. Even Thanksgiving because you
- 4:17can blow up like a balloon. I have no idea why.
- 4:20I like 4th of July and has nothing to do with fireworks
- 4:23because I don't like them. So I just, it's it's something
- 4:27about this holiday, maybe it's the beginning of the summer,
- 4:29even though I can't stand the summer, but it's great.
- 4:32And I'm going to be hanging out with the beef for the 4th of
- 4:35July. So maybe Speedy will be hanging
- 4:37out if he's not in La La Land or Speedy Land, because sometimes I
- 4:42wonder if he's actually here and some maybe in Mars or Jupiter,
- 4:45because sometimes I don't even think he's listening to me.
- 4:48But what are you doing anyways? What are you doing?
- 4:50What am I doing? Yeah, what are you doing?
- 4:53Are you paying attention to this show?
- 4:54Are you just your heads up your ass telling stories?
- 4:57I'm telling stories, but you never pay attention to them.
- 5:00I you're, you're in another world.
- 5:01I, I have no idea sometimes where Speedy is.
- 5:05Speedy is not here. Has anybody played Twister
- 5:08before? Has anybody played that game?
- 5:10Twister? Could you imagine Speedy playing
- 5:13Twister seriously because he doesn't listen as it is?
- 5:17Could you imagine him try to twirl and fine, you know, try to
- 5:20move, maneuver his body around your legs or your scrotum?
- 5:24I mean, Speedy would probably really be good at doing that,
- 5:27but nevertheless, I I don't think he listens very well.
- 5:30So we'll see. Maybe we'll play Chutes and
- 5:32Ladders on this. Show solid.
- 5:34Yeah, I like Chutes and Ladders. That's.
- 5:36A good old school. Yeah, I.
- 5:38Love old school? If you go, if you go to a 4th of
- 5:41July and you have to make a choice, are you a hot dog?
- 5:45Or a Hamburger Guy hamburger burger.
- 5:48I'm a burger guy and and by the way, I'm pre diabetic now as my
- 5:52doctor told me the other day. So I got to be away from all
- 5:56these sugar drinks. So what I'll be doing for the
- 5:58next four months is drinking yes, ladies and gentlemen, water
- 6:02with a little meal. You will not see me drink any
- 6:05more sugar drinks. Now I can eat other things, but
- 6:08I've been very careful over the last 42 hours and I plan to stay
- 6:12that way because I went on that, that trip and I ate a lot of
- 6:16junk food. And over the last a couple of
- 6:18months, because the DJing season, the entertainment season
- 6:22has begun. I go to these parties, there's
- 6:24ice cream, there's candy, there's cake.
- 6:27And I love that I'm a sweets type of person and you know, I
- 6:31got caught up, but I, I'm sure I can get the numbers down, but
- 6:34obviously. Take care of Are you a tea
- 6:36drinker? No, I'm not.
- 6:37I don't like hot drinks. I don't like coffee.
- 6:39I don't like tea. I don't like.
- 6:41Hot cocoa. You can have cold tea.
- 6:43Like, like, yeah, I don't like the, I don't like the taste of
- 6:46it. I, I just, there's something
- 6:47about the taste and when I was a kid, when I was sick, my, my
- 6:51father always stuck tea down my throat and it made me hate it.
- 6:54Just like I hate gravy. Everybody asks me when Gravy's
- 6:57out with potatoes and, and circuit Turkey.
- 7:00I I can't eat gravy because what my grandmother used to do when I
- 7:04was a kid is she is like Italian off the boat Italian.
- 7:09She used to stick gravy, potatoes and Turkey in front of
- 7:13my face and make me drink a cup of milk after my meal.
- 7:17And I could yeah, my grandmother, that's a very
- 7:20that's an Italian thing. You anytime, anytime you have a
- 7:23meal, they always stick milk in front of your face and you got
- 7:26to drink it and I was not. Always after the meal though.
- 7:31You could drink your dirt in the meal.
- 7:32Would you like to mix milk and Turkey and mashed potatoes or
- 7:36any of that garbage and make you sick?
- 7:39And I, I would sit at the table after and I want to barf because
- 7:41I had that, that that gravy taste in my mouth.
- 7:44So I hate gravy. Every time I look at gravy, I
- 7:47want to hurl. It is disgusting.
- 7:49It makes me sick to my stomach. So everybody, buddy, if you're
- 7:53celebrating 4th of July and you see gravy on the table, don't
- 7:57think of me. That's all I'm going to say.
- 7:59Don't think of me because if you do, you probably imagine me
- 8:02throw up all over that table because I get sick to my
- 8:04stomach. So.
- 8:05Do you watch the Nathan's Hot dog eating contest?
- 8:08Always. Always I love, I mean the way
- 8:11they get fired up I it it's, it's a great way to start
- 8:15because it's early in the morning so you're getting stuff
- 8:17done. It's just a great way to start
- 8:19when they bring the dudes in and you got Book of Badlands, he's
- 8:23rapping, you got all kinds of that's great, and then Joey
- 8:26Chestnuts. I call him cheese nuts.
- 8:28That's what I don't call him chestnuts.
- 8:29I call him cheese nuts. And we, we saw Joey Chestnut
- 8:33actually at the Super Bowl, actually fish walked up to him,
- 8:38noticed him and just like announced them And he asked
- 8:42Chestnut if he wants to come on our show one of these days.
- 8:45So maybe we'll reach out to Joey Chestnut and see if he would be
- 8:49interested in jumping on the show after, after the 4th of
- 8:52July, you know, hot dog eating contest.
- 8:54But that's cool I I think. Anything.
- 8:57Let's let's make a fun prediction.
- 8:59I say he wins. But how?
- 9:00Let's let's make a guess and let's and then if who's ever in
- 9:05our in the chat to let me look, let them and whoever gets the
- 9:09closest will do something. All right, how about this?
- 9:11I'm going to predict 72 hot dogs.
- 9:14Poops has 68, Fish has 64. I'm going to go 70.
- 9:19I'm going to go 72, speedy 65, all right.
- 9:23Jake already took 65 all. Right.
- 9:26Pick a one up 66. 66 and I got. 72 So we got anywhere from 64,
- 9:33you had 72, right? Yes, 72.
- 9:36Perfect. Yeah, it'll be fun.
- 9:38I'm interested to see what's going to happen.
- 9:40Speaking of what's happening, well, the New York Knicks,
- 9:44finally. Pick.
- 9:47Their coach. It's been a crazy ride for the
- 9:49last month. After the season, they fire Tom
- 9:53Thibodeau within 48 hours after they get eliminated by the
- 9:56Pacers and people were questioning, do the Knicks
- 9:59actually know what they're doing?
- 10:01ESPN reports that the Knicks have hired Mike Brown as their
- 10:06new and next head coach. Brown was recently fired by the
- 10:10Kings 31 games into the season, but led the Kings to their first
- 10:15playoff appearance in 16 years in 2023.
- 10:18Where they have, I'm sorry, where they had the number one
- 10:22offense in the NBA. Brown is a two time coach of the
- 10:26year, winning with the Kings that season in 2023 and also
- 10:31with the Cavaliers in 2009. Brown made one NBA Final
- 10:35appearance with the Cavaliers in 2007 and also won four NBA
- 10:40titles as an assistant coach with the Spurs and the Warriors.
- 10:44Brown was the only coach that got multiple interviews with the
- 10:47Knicks after meeting with James Dolan and Leon Rose yesterday.
- 10:51Timberwolves assistant coach Mackay Nori, Pelicans assistant
- 10:56coach James Borrego and former Grizzlies head coach Taylor
- 11:01Jenkins were the only other coaches to get interviews by the
- 11:05Knicks. Brown has 454 career wins and a
- 11:11.599 career winning percentage. Among active coaches that have
- 11:17coached multiple seasons, only Joe Missoula and Steve Kerr have
- 11:23a higher winning percentage than Mr. Mike Brown.
- 11:26I, I was shocked. I was shocked that the Knicks
- 11:31pick Mike Brown. I'm not going to lie to you
- 11:33guys. Now, do I think he's a bad hire?
- 11:36I trust in Leon Rose. Leon Rose has made a lot of
- 11:40different decisions over the last couple of years and he's
- 11:43made the right ones. He brought Jalen Bronson in for
- 11:45$58 million. Now he's the captain, He's Mr.
- 11:48Clutch. Am I going to take shots at Leon
- 11:50Rose when he made that move? No.
- 11:52He gave RJ Barrett an extension. He used RJ Barrett to get OG
- 11:56Ananobi. OG Ananobi is one of the best
- 11:58wing defenders in the league, a Kawhi Leonard prototype now.
- 12:03He has been very good and he's been healthy.
- 12:05So is that a home run? Absolutely.
- 12:08He signed obviously a guy like Robertson, Mitchell Robertson,
- 12:12to a 64 year, 60 to $63 million contract.
- 12:17Is Mitchell Robertson one of the best centers in the league when
- 12:20healthy? I would believe he is.
- 12:21Now. He's not an offensive player.
- 12:23He's one of the better rebounders, offensive rebounders
- 12:25in the league and one of the best blockers in the league and
- 12:28rim protector. So was that a bad move?
- 12:30No, He made the trade for Karl Anthony Towns.
- 12:35Now, is Karl Anthony Towns one of the best offensive big men in
- 12:38the league? Yes.
- 12:39Does he work well well with Jalen Brunson when they're both
- 12:42on the court? No, because both of them don't
- 12:45play a lick of defense. But that is why I believe they
- 12:50made the move to bring in Mike Brown and here's the reason why.
- 12:54Mike Brown is a different style of coach.
- 12:56He is a defensive minded coach as Tom Thibodeau was a defensive
- 13:01minded coach. But what makes Mike Brown a
- 13:03little bit more interesting when it comes to defense?
- 13:06He plays man. That's what he does.
- 13:08He sometimes uses the zone, zone defense, but mainly plays man.
- 13:13That means if Mikkel Bridges and he sets up Mikkel Bridges to
- 13:17defend Tyrese Halpert in the whole game, that's what Mikhail
- 13:21Bridges is going to defend the whole game.
- 13:23There's no changing up. There's no rotation.
- 13:27It's none of that. It's man on man.
- 13:30And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the reason why Indiana beat
- 13:34the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals.
- 13:38But you'll, you'll look back of all the coaches over the last
- 13:42couple of years with the New York Knicks and how much they
- 13:45have failed, Jeff Hornacek being one of them.
- 13:48Jeff Hornacek was a good, he was a decent NBA player.
- 13:52He was a three-point shooter. He played on that Utah Jazz team
- 13:56with John Stockton and Karl Malone, went to a couple of
- 13:59finals but choked. And he was a terrible head coach
- 14:03with the New York Knicks. Derek Fisher, who likes to sleep
- 14:06around with other people's wives and girlfriends.
- 14:09Derek Fisher, he won a couple of titles with the Lakers.
- 14:12Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, he got his first coaching job
- 14:16with the Knicks and within years, and I mean years, because
- 14:19it was really 2 1/2 years, he was fired.
- 14:22I wonder if the Knicks are still paying him so because he's never
- 14:25got another job. And then you got, you go through
- 14:28the line of guys that have succeeded.
- 14:31Charles Woodson was a good, he was a good head coach.
- 14:35He really was. Now, the problem with Charles
- 14:38Woodson was he didn't have the fans, you know, respect.
- 14:43He was a good coach, but he wasn't that bright light coach.
- 14:46He wasn't that name in the stars where everybody says all we got
- 14:50Charles Woodson. He wasn't like that.
- 14:52Now, Phil Jackson, we thought by bringing him in as the GM or
- 14:56whatever president of the organization, you would have
- 14:58thought that Phil Jackson one way or another, because of how
- 15:01bad the Knicks have been coached over the last, you know, 20
- 15:05years, he was going to come in and take over the coaching
- 15:08duties. It didn't work.
- 15:09It didn't work with Phil Jackson.
- 15:11As a matter of fact, he was falling asleep at the combines
- 15:14when he was trying to scout players.
- 15:15So it didn't work with Phil. But over the years, the Knicks
- 15:20have been up and down with head coaches.
- 15:23Tom Thibodeau was a successful coach with the New York Knicks.
- 15:26Nobody's taking that away from him.
- 15:28The problem with Tom is you could never get over the hump.
- 15:32He went as far as he could with the Timberwolves.
- 15:34He did, and he only went to the semis with the Timberwolves.
- 15:38Could never get to the Western Conference Finals with the
- 15:40Timberwolves. He went with Chicago to the
- 15:43Finals and who did he bump into? He bumped into the Miami Heat
- 15:47and with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh and Ray
- 15:52Allen, it was never going to work.
- 15:54They were never going to get over the hump.
- 15:55And that was really the last year Derrick Rose was really as
- 15:59elite as he was when he came into the league.
- 16:03The problem over the years with the New York Knicks is the
- 16:06transitional players that they bring in and how the coaches do
- 16:10not work with those players. McHale Bridges after the season
- 16:14as I heard and went in to the executives with Leon Rose, James
- 16:19Dolan and World Wide West and relayed his thoughts to the
- 16:24organization and where he thinks the organization is heading if
- 16:27they keep Tom Thibodeau. He was the guy, and I believe he
- 16:31was the first that opened up his mouth and said he's tired.
- 16:35He was tired. Now, this is the same guy,
- 16:37Miguel Bridges, who the Knicks traded for five first round
- 16:41draft picks, five of them to bring him from the the Brooklyn
- 16:45Nets to the New York Knicks. McHale Bridges was a big part of
- 16:49the first and second round of the playoffs.
- 16:52And then what happened in the third round in the Eastern
- 16:54Conference Finals, he fell off Why?
- 16:57Probably because he was tired. And that is the problem right
- 17:00now with the New York Knicks. And it's been the problem with
- 17:03the New York Knicks year in and year out.
- 17:05Tom Thibodeau wears these guys out and it doesn't even matter
- 17:10to him. He will play 7 guys all season.
- 17:13If you look at the Knicks starters, all 5 starters were in
- 17:16the top 11 in the league with minutes played in games in the
- 17:21regular season. That is a problem.
- 17:24I don't care what anybody says. Look at Josh Hart throughout the
- 17:27playoffs. It looked like as the playoffs
- 17:29move forward, he was getting tired and he wasn't the same
- 17:32player. He wasn't that defensive
- 17:35offensive player that the Knicks were expecting to get from
- 17:39either in the starting lineup or even coming off the bench as the
- 17:426th or 7th guy off the bench. He wasn't that guy in the
- 17:45finals. Why?
- 17:46Because he was tired. Then he was making mistakes, he
- 17:49was fouling people and he was putting himself and putting the
- 17:51Knicks in bad positions to succeed.
- 17:53Mike Brown, I think will be a decent fit now.
- 17:57I don't know what Mike Brown's going to be in New York, but he
- 18:00is a winner. Everywhere he's gone, he's won.
- 18:03You could say whatever you want. It's not easy winning an NBA
- 18:06championship. Is Mike Brown a guy?
- 18:09I think he's better than Joe Missoula.
- 18:11Joe Missoula took over for Brad Stevens.
- 18:14And what is it, Doka? I always mess up his name in
- 18:18Houston head coach because he was playing with somebody else's
- 18:21woman. But it seems like that that's
- 18:23the trend right now with coaches and executives.
- 18:26As we all know, Isaiah Thomas was doing that as well.
- 18:29But but the fact is the New York Knicks needed to make a move
- 18:36that makes sense now. Leon Rose over the last couple
- 18:40of years. I'll go back to what I was just
- 18:42saying in the beginning of the monologue.
- 18:44Everything he's touched, practically, he's hit.
- 18:48They're slam dunks now. Mike Brown, coming in from
- 18:53multiple interviews, tells me that he very much impressed
- 18:57Worldwide West and Leon Rose. Nobody cares about James Dolan.
- 19:01Nobody gives a crap about what James Dolan is doing except when
- 19:04he goes on a mic and he plays his stupid guitar and he's
- 19:07fiddler. He's Fiddler on a Roof when he's
- 19:09over there at Madison Square Garden.
- 19:10Do we really care about that either though?
- 19:12No, but when you have a career winning percentage of 599 that
- 19:18ladies and gentlemen tells me that he is a quality head coach.
- 19:22Now, will the Knicks win with Mike Brown?
- 19:25Only time will tell. Madison Square Garden is going
- 19:28to be very loud about this when he gets introduced, probably on
- 19:31Monday because they're not going to introduce him on the weekend
- 19:34because it's 4th of July to holiday expected to be on Monday
- 19:37when they introduce Mike Brown. He's not going to be the world
- 19:40beater that everybody wanted. There were a lot of people that
- 19:43wanted the kid and, and, and, and, and somebody like him was a
- 19:48guy that was coaching right under Tom Thibodeau and that was
- 19:51I always mess up his name, Johnny Bryant, Johnny Bryant.
- 19:54Johnny Bryant is a is a guy that has been a successful defensive
- 19:58mind with the New York Knicks, with Tom Thibodeau.
- 20:01He was the second guy over the over the the first two or three
- 20:04years with the New York Knicks before he decided to go and part
- 20:07ways with the Knicks and go over there to Cleveland to work with
- 20:10Kenny Atkinson. Everybody thought John Bryant
- 20:12Bryant was the guy. Then Mike Malone.
- 20:15He gets fired before three games or four games before the
- 20:17playoffs. He was the big sexy name that
- 20:20every Knick fan wanted. He didn't even get an interview.
- 20:23The Knicks didn't even interview him.
- 20:25So obviously Knicks had no thoughts of bringing in a guy of
- 20:30that magnitude. The reason why I think Mike
- 20:32Malone didn't get an interview is a lot of people compare his
- 20:35his coaching ability to a Tom Thibodeau, an aggressive guy
- 20:40that doesn't really say much. And he and he he plays that
- 20:44shift and that rotating defense. That didn't work here in New
- 20:47York. But again, Mike Brown's a
- 20:50different style of coach. The way he runs his offense,
- 20:53he's it's going to be a different style of offense.
- 20:55The pick and roll at the top of the key will probably be
- 20:58changed. He'll probably move and spread
- 21:01out the offense. He's going to play like a
- 21:02triangle offense like Steve Kerr did in the Spurs.
- 21:05He comes from the Spurs organization.
- 21:07Greg Popovich. She's going to run a a triangle
- 21:10style of offense. It's not going to be completely
- 21:12a triangle, but a triangle style of offense.
- 21:15And why does that work with the Knicks?
- 21:18Well, one of the main reasons why is Jalen Bronson.
- 21:20He's a one-on-one player. He's an isolation player.
- 21:23And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what you can use during a
- 21:27triangle type of offense. Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, even
- 21:31Kevin Durant when he was over there, over there in Golden
- 21:34State, that's what they like to run.
- 21:36They were either running the offense through Kevin Durant,
- 21:38Steph Curry or Klay Thompson. Whoever was hot and whoever was
- 21:42not, that's the guy they were running the offense to.
- 21:45I just think that that's the way the Knicks are going to play
- 21:48their offense. That's the way they're going to
- 21:49run their offense. Again, I am not excited with
- 21:53this hire, but when you look at his numbers and as you put it
- 21:56up, speedy very nicely, 599 winning percentage and he's only
- 22:01behind Joe Missoula and Steve Kerr over the last what cut
- 22:05multiple. Years among active head coaches
- 22:07right now in the. NBA.
- 22:08I mean, that says a lot about his coaching style.
- 22:11He was also in a Western Conference with Sacramento.
- 22:14Sacramento had a young D, Aaron Fox and a Sabonis, and he was
- 22:19the I think he was the guy that decided to part ways with Tyrese
- 22:23Halbern. I'm not sure.
- 22:24He was hired, I think slightly after that, yeah.
- 22:27So I I think that when you look at the position that the Knicks
- 22:32have put themselves in, especially in the Eastern
- 22:35Conference, when the Celtics are not going to have Tatum probably
- 22:38until the end of season, maybe not at all next year and they're
- 22:41not making any big moves. They traded Porzingis, they
- 22:43traded obviously Drew Holiday. They're going to play what what
- 22:47they have right now. And then you have the Cavaliers.
- 22:50The Cavaliers have done really nothing.
- 22:52They added a couple of pieces, but nothing exciting.
- 22:56This is going to be the same Cavalier team.
- 22:58And by the way, who play who worked with Kenny Atkinson a a
- 23:02couple of years and that was Mike Brown, who who knows Kenny
- 23:07Atkinson more than Mike Brown? Mike Brown knows his style.
- 23:10He knows what he likes to run. He knows how he runs his
- 23:12offense, he runs his defense. So I know Jalen Bronson and Josh
- 23:17Hart wanted to keep Tom Thibodeau.
- 23:18There were those guys, what I heard were the only two guys
- 23:22that were vouching for Tom Thibodeau's return next to this
- 23:25coming season. The problem is, as good as both
- 23:29those players are and as talented as Jalen Brunson is, I
- 23:32think the organization wanted to move forward with another coach
- 23:36that would give them a better chance to make that run to the
- 23:40finals, which they haven't done since 1999.
- 23:43Yeah, we talk about all the time how a lot of these veteran NBA
- 23:46coaches have just been dismissed randomly by certain teams over
- 23:49the years because it's become like last 10 years, obviously a
- 23:52player run league. And there's a lot of these
- 23:53surprising firings that do end up happening.
- 23:55And Mike Brown, I think, was a victim of that with Sacramento
- 23:57this past season. The Kings started off at slow.
- 24:00They started 13 and 18, and it wasn't all their fault.
- 24:03And like we were talking about before the show, Scott Perry's
- 24:05in that front office and that front office is not very well
- 24:07run as it is. Obviously they haven't been able
- 24:09to sign players. They haven't been able to keep
- 24:11players on that team. Like you said, they traded
- 24:13Halliburton and they got Sabonis, which was nice.
- 24:16But again, it hasn't gotten them besides the one season which
- 24:18Mike Brown was coach of the year to be that team of the future.
- 24:20I thought they would be evolving into that the next year.
- 24:23I picked them in the Western Conference finals that year.
- 24:25It didn't amount to anything. And obviously he gets fired and
- 24:28kind of scapegoated by the Sacramento Kings.
- 24:30It's a really bad front office. And I talked about with Rick
- 24:33Carlisle too, and I don't think he's Rick Carlisle good,
- 24:36obviously. But Rick Carlisle had to change
- 24:38his coaching style to adapt to the young players with Indiana
- 24:42when he got fired from Dallas. And obviously he didn't work out
- 24:44with Luka Doncic because he had to change.
- 24:46And I talked about that in football too, with Jim Harbaugh.
- 24:49Jim Harbaugh going from the NFL to college back to the NFLI.
- 24:51Think Mike Brown is that type of adaptation because he's learned
- 24:54with the Spurs, who at the time he was kind of a veteran team in
- 24:57the Warriors that were kind of a younger team in transition when
- 25:01he won with the championship in 22 before he got the King's head
- 25:03coaching job. So I think he's a little bit of
- 25:06an adaptation type coach as well that can work with the Knicks
- 25:09backcourt type of presence, which is similar to the Golden
- 25:11State Warriors to backcourt type of presence.
- 25:13Now the Warriors are more offense driven, the Knicks
- 25:15probably more defensive driven in the backcourt, but Jalen
- 25:17Brunson spaces the floor very well, just like Steph Curry did.
- 25:20You got Klay Thompson, 3 ND guy, OG 3 ND guy.
- 25:24This is a very similar type structure to what he could bring
- 25:26to the concepts with the Warriors.
- 25:28I could see why they bought Jordan Clarkson and I I think
- 25:31they knew Mike Brown was going to get hired because of the way
- 25:34Jordan Clarkson likes to run through the offense.
- 25:36Now, Jordan Clarkson is good shooting.
- 25:38He's a good offensive player. He doesn't play a lick of
- 25:40defense. I think what the Knicks are
- 25:42going to do now is they're going to use Mitchell Robinson.
- 25:45Mitchell Robinson, don't be surprised now if you see Mike
- 25:48Brown start Mitchell Robinson and Karl Anthony Towns.
- 25:51They move Karl Anthony Towns to the four.
- 25:53Mitchell Robinson will be playing the five and all Mitch
- 25:56is going to be doing throughout the season as long as he stays
- 25:59healthy is guard the hole. That's what they're going to do
- 26:01with him. Make sure that he's an offensive
- 26:03rebounding machine, which he obviously, if you remember the
- 26:06Spurs and what that when he was over there with this Spurs and
- 26:09with Mike Brown, that's what the the Spurs were doing with their
- 26:11big men. And then the same thing what we
- 26:14saw over the years with the Golden State Warriors when they
- 26:16were using their big men, they were using and I'm not talking
- 26:18about Draymond Green, it was Looney.
- 26:20Looney. They were talking about Looney.
- 26:22I mean, Looney was the type of guy that was just guarding the
- 26:24hole and he was rebounding. That's what they used them for
- 26:27in a shot blocker. Mitchell Robinson's a better
- 26:29player, a better big man. And I think that's what you're
- 26:32going to see more with Mike Brown, which you did not see
- 26:34with Tom Thibodeau over the last, I would say 2 years.
- 26:37Even with the big men they have when they had Precious there and
- 26:40they had Mitchell Robertson, they were not doing that.
- 26:43They weren't running their their defense like that.
- 26:45I think it's going to be different with Mike Brown
- 26:47because he's going to play man defense and that helps Carl
- 26:50Anthony Towns and it helps a guy like Jalen Brunson, two guys
- 26:54that don't play a lick of defense.
- 26:55Yeah. And also.
- 26:56Do you think, oh, good, good. I'm.
- 26:58Going to say, I'm going to emphasize the ball movement
- 27:00aspect because he comes from the Spurs and.
- 27:02It's going to be a triangle offense.
- 27:03They like to move the ball. It's it's going to be a pass
- 27:05friendly offense. Motion, motion, motion.
- 27:08And off ball motion, that's the biggest thing I think that
- 27:10Golden State doesn't get enough credit for.
- 27:12It's just a three-point shooting.
- 27:14It's their off ball motion, the way they move away from the ball
- 27:17that makes the Golden State Warriors offense tough to
- 27:19defend. And the Spurs are the same kind
- 27:20of way. The Spurs probably emphasize
- 27:21more of an inside game with their obviously Tim Duncan with
- 27:24the mid range shooting and the guys are Kawhi Leonard with the
- 27:26mid range shooting when he developed his game more.
- 27:28But they always emphasize ball movement.
- 27:30They always, it wasn't the isolation offense.
- 27:32Not that they couldn't do it on occasion, but that was the thing
- 27:34that I think the Knicks are lacking at certain points too,
- 27:36where the Knicks, especially with their wings during the
- 27:38postseason were stagnant offensively.
- 27:41That's why OG had his disappearing axe at certain.
- 27:43Point It was the defense. It was absolutely the defense
- 27:47and the transitional defense that Tom Thibodeau was running
- 27:50in the playoffs that pissed off Leon Rose and Worldwide WI don't
- 27:54know if anybody watched the second round of the playoffs and
- 27:57had a chance to see Leon Rose on the sidelines when he was out
- 28:01there and when the Knicks were falling behind the faces he was
- 28:05making by the transitional defense.
- 28:07It was bad. It was really, really bad.
- 28:09And the Knicks got out of the second round and they actually,
- 28:12as much as everybody thought that they dominated the Celtics,
- 28:15the Celtics had a chance. Besides the the the three or
- 28:19four games that the Knicks came back from, the Celtics had a
- 28:22chance to win this series. It wasn't in a complete blowout.
- 28:24Even though the Knicks won, what was it, four games to two?
- 28:28The Celtics probably if the Celtics didn't choke the way
- 28:32they did in two or three of those games, the Celtics win the
- 28:35series and it it wouldn't even, it wouldn't have even been any
- 28:38close. The Knicks came back because of
- 28:41what they did in the fourth quarter.
- 28:42It was really the luck of the draw.
- 28:44I don't think Mike Brown's that type of coach.
- 28:46Mike Brown is going to play with the lead and he's going to use
- 28:49his guys to do the things defensively that he liked to do
- 28:53and how he runs his defense. Yeah, and you mentioned that in
- 28:56big men inside too. Like I think the random guys,
- 28:58he's gotten to work even in San Antonio.
- 28:59Not even just Tim Duncan, Boris D out, Tiago Splitter, he
- 29:02coached over there were good rebounders.
- 29:03Golden State, you mentioned with Looney, too.
- 29:05Looney was the guy who's got 10 points, like 20 rebounds in a
- 29:07game sometimes, too. That's what the Knicks need out
- 29:09of the depth of their big men, too.
- 29:11Do you think too like in, in the picking of a coach is kind of
- 29:15what personnel you're working with or like you, you, you
- 29:18brought in Jordan Clarkson and, and how that pertains to Mike
- 29:21Brown. Do you think any of that like as
- 29:24seeing the personnel and what you have and, and what you saw
- 29:27that could have worked? It worked at times, but didn't
- 29:30do it enough? Do you think that played a part
- 29:32in who they were picking and how they went about it and, and kind
- 29:37of the manner of like, hey, this is kind of what we saw, this is
- 29:40kind of what we want to do and did that play a part in
- 29:44basically the final decision to bring Mike Brown?
- 29:46In absolutely, and I'm going to tell you this right now before
- 29:49they they announced that Mike Brown was going to be hired by
- 29:51the Knicks. They went to Jaylen Bronson,
- 29:54they went to Josh Hart, they went to McHale Bridges, they
- 29:56went to Karl Anthony Towns. They wanted to ask all their
- 29:59stars if this was going to work, if if this fit was going to
- 30:03work. And before, and I'm saying
- 30:05before they even announced Mike Brown was going to be the coach
- 30:08today. I think they already knew it
- 30:10five days ago. I and that's why they brought in
- 30:12Jordan Clarkson. Like you said, absolutely why
- 30:15they brought in Jordan Clarkson is because Mike Brown probably
- 30:18knew and wanted a guy like Jordan Clarkson to come come to
- 30:22the Knicks and be his second secondary point guard.
- 30:25Because I do believe now that you bring in Mike Brown, they're
- 30:28moving Miles McBride, they're absolutely moving him.
- 30:31There's no reason why they're going to keep 3 guards that are
- 30:34playing the point on this roster, Mike Brown.
- 30:37And by the way, the one thing I can tell you about Mike Brown,
- 30:39he likes to play young guys. That's something that Tom
- 30:42Thibodeau does not like to do. Mike Brown does like to do that.
- 30:46If you remember on the Cleveland Cavaliers, they were practically
- 30:49all young players on that roster with LeBron James and all those
- 30:53other guys. A lot of the young players got a
- 30:55chance to play and he rotated his offense through 13 to 14
- 30:59guys. I expect the Knicks to use
- 31:01between 13 and 14 guys all season.
- 31:05Jalen Brunson is not going to be playing for 3544 minutes.
- 31:09I I could see Jalen Bronson playing 3637, Karl Anthony Towns
- 31:14playing 3536. That's where they're going to be
- 31:17playing. He's not going to run these guys
- 31:19out there and run them out early in the season and where they're
- 31:22huffing and puffing and they're not ready for the playoffs.
- 31:25That's not the way Mike Brown likes to run his offense and his
- 31:27defense. It's a different offense and and
- 31:30it's a different way he's going to be coaching moving forward
- 31:32for the New York Knicks. I disagree a little Errol, with
- 31:36what Thibodeau did to this team and what why Brown's going to be
- 31:39different, right? They're both defensive coaches.
- 31:41They're both notorious hard asses.
- 31:43Brown forced his way out of Sacramento after getting coach
- 31:46of the year because he couldn't stop going after D Aaron Fox for
- 31:49being lazy and just like telling him that this you got to see in
- 31:53this game and he would like put him on blast in the media.
- 31:56Tibbs never did that to his guys in the media, but let's face it,
- 32:00he's going to coach him hard. Is there any team ready for a
- 32:03team that's going to be for coach that's going to coach him
- 32:05hard? It's a team that just had Tibs,
- 32:07so I'm not worried about that from Jalen Brunson and the crew.
- 32:10I think they're actually going to take to him very well.
- 32:12They they're the type of group of guys that can take that
- 32:15constructive criticism because no one's harder on Brunson than
- 32:17himself, right? The Aaron Fox, not the same guy,
- 32:19let's face it. But that's that's the thing.
- 32:22The thing about the playing them until they retired, I disagree
- 32:26with that. I think the thing that Tibbs did
- 32:28that was so wrong was that he played them so much.
- 32:31He never got the bench minutes to the point where the guys like
- 32:35Hart and all the other pieces knew where the the backup
- 32:39players were going to be in the defensive rotation.
- 32:41They didn't know where they're supposed to space when they were
- 32:45on transition. So that's why the transition
- 32:47offense look like crap. You're going to tell me?
- 32:48Putting guys out, you're going to tell me.
- 32:50You're going to tell me a bunch of professional players that
- 32:53have played in the NBA multiple years, don't know where?
- 32:55They're playing and 100 percent, 100%, if you haven't played all
- 32:59year with them, you don't. That's bull.
- 33:02No way. No way.
- 33:03Bullshit. They don't practice very much
- 33:04during the regular season. You know that.
- 33:06They don't have time. They have game after game after
- 33:09game and they have one practice. Every morning they practice
- 33:11every. Every couple of weeks they have
- 33:13a real practice. They practice.
- 33:14They have walkthroughs. That's a practice, and they're
- 33:18running. It's not.
- 33:18Yes, it is. You're going to tell me you
- 33:20don't? Learn really how to get you're
- 33:22going to tell me off of the you're.
- 33:23Going to tell me the press guys that we've had on on our show
- 33:26telling me every. Everyone would agree.
- 33:28With this, I just everyone would agree.
- 33:30I just you can't come in cold. I never play.
- 33:32I disagree. Like you're sticking up for Tom
- 33:35Thibodeau. Now you're sticking up for Tom
- 33:37Thibodeau making I'm not. I'm telling you why Thibodeau
- 33:39was wrong. No, no, he was wrong.
- 33:42Because you're telling me Mike Brown and Tom Thibodeau are
- 33:45practically the same time, coach?
- 33:47They're not not what I'm saying. I'm saying they're the same type
- 33:49of hard what you. Said They're all hard ass type.
- 33:52All the great coaches are hard asses.
- 33:55Pat Riley is a hard ass but Greg Popovich was a hard ass.
- 34:00The only reason why he was nice after he changed with Todd.
- 34:02When Tim Duncan came to, the team asked the Admiral how
- 34:06Popovich coached him over the years before Tim Duncan came
- 34:10into the came into the came on the roster.
- 34:13Oh, I know. And Brown worked for Popovich
- 34:15and and learned championship ways in that kind of style of
- 34:18coaching. The only.
- 34:19Ask have a problem with that? That's the only he's so
- 34:22different though, Brown in how he plays the young guys and you
- 34:24mentioned it, Errol. That's the big difference.
- 34:27Now, what you saw Tibbs doing in the playoffs was the equivalent
- 34:31of how I used to get chewed out as AJV football coach of drawing
- 34:34plays up in the dirt. Because when you haven't gotten
- 34:37guys like Speedy the Lawn, right?
- 34:42Did he play at all for like a month and a half?
- 34:45You know, he came in, gave them energy the first game he was in
- 34:49and guess what, by the by the time those guys are in, after a
- 34:51while, if they have to play with the starters, they haven't
- 34:53played with them in practice. The guys in practice, the stars
- 34:56are playing with the starters, are going against some of these
- 34:58backups. When it comes to actually
- 35:00playing with them in the rotation in the in the second
- 35:03quarter, in the late third quarter, early fourth quarter,
- 35:06you saw the Knicks just not able to do it.
- 35:09Tibbs didn't want to play that lineup and Brown will.
- 35:12So I think that's why they went with him.
- 35:14I am excited about it. I think that he's going to get
- 35:17the bench ready. And there's just one other thing
- 35:20that has to be mentioned about this.
- 35:24No one coaches guys harder than tips.
- 35:26No one plays guys more minutes than tips.
- 35:28Whoever they come from, that's going to be next.
- 35:31It's going to feel like they're on vacation, that they have all
- 35:34this energy at the end of the season.
- 35:37It's going to be so much better from that part.
- 35:39You're saying, Errol, that's true.
- 35:40Maybe it'll keep guys happier. Will it make them?
- 35:43I don't think. I think the bigger problem was
- 35:45that he was basically drawing it up in the dirt with guys that he
- 35:47never played, yeah. You know, I also look at like
- 35:51with Mike Brown, I think the familiarity aspect of bumping
- 35:53around different teams too and still getting respect across the
- 35:56league too is something that I think is this Knicks team
- 35:58definitely get needs to get to. Obviously, I think they're get
- 36:01respected across the league. I think they're now established
- 36:03as not the laughingstock Knicks that they were five years ago
- 36:06and stuff like that. But I think from the player
- 36:08standpoint to trying to take that next step to want to guys
- 36:12who want to come there because the Knicks are doing that now.
- 36:14Jalen Bronson has been doing that since he's gotten there.
- 36:16They got bridges. They got out of nobody.
- 36:17This is all like, these aren't the home grown teams that you're
- 36:20seeing all the time while you're building the same core all the
- 36:22time. This is a a team that a lot of
- 36:24trades and a lot of new pieces. The Knicks fans are not happy
- 36:27with this move. I, I everything that I've read
- 36:29on social media, they're not happy.
- 36:32I think they would probably. Have been Who do you think they
- 36:34wanted? I, I don't know, obviously it
- 36:36was probably Bryant. That's that's the way.
- 36:38I I think that's crazy. He was coach of the year 2 years
- 36:41ago. Yeah, he was coach of the year 2
- 36:44years ago. He is by far the most qualified
- 36:48guy out there. He's not a sexy name, but
- 36:50neither was Tibbs. It's the type of guy that makes
- 36:53this Leon Rose group who we should all have faith.
- 36:56That's the one thing I believe in.
- 36:58That's the one thing I believe in is Leon Rose knows what he's
- 37:00doing. He's not an idiot.
- 37:02And he knows that if Mike Brown came in and he wooed him, which
- 37:06he probably did, he understood what this team is all about.
- 37:10And, and again, Jalen Bronson isn't Steph Curry.
- 37:13He's not. But what Jalen Bronson does very
- 37:15well is he understands how to draw fouls and go to the hole
- 37:20and make plays in the open court.
- 37:22That's something like Mike Brown likes to do.
- 37:24He likes to create spaces and and understands what what Jalen
- 37:28Brunson strengths are and what obviously the other players
- 37:32like. Carl Anthony Towns is as a big
- 37:34man on what he does very good. The one thing I could say about
- 37:37Carl Anthony Towns this offseason and he needs to clean
- 37:39up is stop shooting those 60 or 70 foot jumpers at the
- 37:43three-point line. That is not going to work if if
- 37:46the Knicks plan to run again with the same roster they have
- 37:51right now, they have to get Karl Anthony Towns more involved
- 37:56offensively and run the offense sometimes through him.
- 38:00It was mainly run through Jalen Brunson.
- 38:02And then when Karl Anthony Towns was the only guy on the court,
- 38:05when it was the only, the only big time superstar on the court,
- 38:09it was run through him. So I want to see both guys work
- 38:12together and they'll be able to run the offense through each and
- 38:16every one of them if need be. If one's hot than the other, Tom
- 38:19Thibodeau, even when Jalen Brunson was not hot, he was
- 38:22still running the offense through Jalen Brunson.
- 38:25He needs to, if somebody is hot, run it through that guy.
- 38:29If Mikhail Bridges is hotter than Jalen Brunson and he's
- 38:32hotter than Karl Anthony Towns, run the offense to Mikhail
- 38:35Bridges. If OG and Anobi is hotter than
- 38:38every single one of those guys, Karl Anthony Towns and and, and
- 38:41Jalen Brunson, run your offense to OG.
- 38:43I, I remember and I, I against the Celtics, I don't know if it
- 38:47was game four or Game 5, the, the Knicks couldn't hit a lick
- 38:50and in the fourth quarter OG and Anobi hit like 6 straight
- 38:53points. Remember that?
- 38:55Six straight points. And then all of a sudden he
- 38:58decided the, the Knicks started to Jaylen Brunson came back and
- 39:02Jaylen Brunson hasn't been on on the court for like 3 or 4
- 39:05minutes. They started running the offense
- 39:07through him and said OG and Anobi, who was hot.
- 39:10That didn't make any sense. And that's Tom Thibodeaux.
- 39:13He has more trust. He has too much trust in Jalen
- 39:16Bronson and Josh Hart. By the way, how many times do we
- 39:19see Josh Hart take the ball up and try to go to the hole and
- 39:23make mistakes while he was doing pass the ball, throw the ball
- 39:26away? That is not the way Mike Brown
- 39:28likes to run his offense. I I think it's going to be a
- 39:30different style. What we, we didn't see what Tom
- 39:34Tippett over the last five years with Mike Brown.
- 39:36I think that's why the Knicks decided to go with him and not
- 39:38go with Bryant or Jenkins because obviously they thought
- 39:43they were more of a Tom Thibodeau prototype than a guy
- 39:47like Mike Brown who's going to play his own style, his own way.
- 39:50And like you said, Fish. I think that the Knicks
- 39:53understand where they want to be and where the Knicks have a
- 39:56chance to be next year is in the Finals because they're the
- 40:00Eastern Conference is going to be the weakest it's ever been.
- 40:04There's too many injuries. How many times did we see it in
- 40:07the playoffs? How many guys went down in the
- 40:09playoffs with the Achilles tendon injury?
- 40:11We saw it in every single series.
- 40:13Seriously, we saw it. Mr. Dane, Dane time he tore his
- 40:18Achilles, he could be out for the season.
- 40:20Jayson Tatum. Tours Achilles, he's out for
- 40:23probably the season and then obviously Tyrese Halliburton
- 40:27tearing his Achilles in the finals, he's out for the season.
- 40:30You're talking about superstars going down.
- 40:32It could be out for the season and now the Knicks are sitting
- 40:35pretty because they're healthy. They're they were super healthy
- 40:38in the playoffs and now you have a chance where you're the,
- 40:42you're the king of the hell. Now you're the team that people
- 40:45are going to want to beat in the Eastern Conference.
- 40:47And the Cavaliers, they're choke artists.
- 40:49I I've seen enough of the Cavaliers over the last three
- 40:53seasons, no matter who the coach is, even Kenny Atkinson, who's a
- 40:56great coach, they they're just have too many choke artists when
- 41:00they get into the playoffs. They just are not the same team
- 41:03they are in the regular season. It's.
- 41:04Not no. And you also look at the
- 41:06identity that the Knicks, Knicks have brought.
- 41:08They've had playoff series that have been good, obviously,
- 41:11obviously progressing from where they were in the past where they
- 41:14couldn't even win a series most of the time.
- 41:15But again, they still struggle a lot more than they should have.
- 41:18And I think that's the other identity that you want somebody
- 41:21like Mike Brown, who's under coaches and programs that have
- 41:24dominated playoff series too with the Spurs and with the with
- 41:27the Warriors too. The Knicks haven't had that
- 41:29sense of like, where is that consistent like throttling sweep
- 41:32that we've seen in the playoffs? Like even the Piston series this
- 41:35year was a six game series and a lot of those games were close.
- 41:37The Knicks had the physical endings with two of those games,
- 41:40obviously Towns at the big shot. But again, it's not enough of it
- 41:43for the Knicks to be able to take that next step.
- 41:45Now, obviously we talk about all the parity in the NBA now where
- 41:47you haven't seen that level of dominance in one series.
- 41:49Even with OKC that won the title this year, they had a lot of
- 41:52seven game series. But the Knicks have the talent
- 41:54and like you said, the circumstances to make that next
- 41:56step with the Eastern Conference being the Cavs, them and who
- 42:00else. Do the Knicks fans want to see
- 42:02Kolak this year? Absolutely.
- 42:03The Knicks fans wanted to see Kolak all season last year and
- 42:07he barely played because Tom Thibodeau just does not like to
- 42:10play young players. Kolak is a ball handler.
- 42:13Some people think that he's quite capable of being a starter
- 42:17on this team. If he earns a spot on this
- 42:19roster, Why? Why wouldn't Mike Brown give
- 42:22Kolak a chance if he gets hot shooting the ball?
- 42:24So he's a, he's quite capable of moving.
- 42:27He's a great ball handler by the way, I've seen his pre workouts
- 42:30on the basketball court when he practices, he's kind of like
- 42:33Steph Curry on that magnitude. He goes out there, he's
- 42:37dribbling with two balls, crossing over with two balls.
- 42:39He likes to practice using both hands and in many different
- 42:43ways, if you know what I mean. But nevertheless, I, I want to
- 42:45see colic play. I want to see what the Knicks
- 42:48have on that bench, these young players that they drafted.
- 42:50How about the 2 French kids that they're bringing in now?
- 42:52I want to see these guys. They were on the national team
- 42:56for the France French team that went in the silver in in in the
- 42:59Olympics. These guys are actually good
- 43:02players. This French team, which is a lot
- 43:04of people think besides Team USA could be the elite team, the
- 43:08team that could be united the United States in in the next
- 43:11couple of years. That's what I want to see.
- 43:13I want to see these young kids develop and maybe become
- 43:16something something that we wouldn't believe they would be
- 43:19over the, you know, after all these years of the Knicks draft
- 43:21picks and finding and searching these guys and falling short
- 43:25quickly was a good player. That was a Leon Rose guy and
- 43:28then Leon Rose traded him and that RJ Barrett trade and they
- 43:31brought in OJ and Opie. That was a big move for the New
- 43:33York Knicks developing him. Look at Obie Topping.
- 43:37Obie Topping played a big factor with the Indiana Pacers.
- 43:40It didn't work in New York because he didn't get along with
- 43:42Tom Thibodeau. And then he goes over there in
- 43:44Indiana and played a big factor as their 6th man off the bench
- 43:49when they needed that aggressive dunker or that aggressive, you
- 43:53know, shop blocker OB Toppin was there.
- 43:56I I think this is what you want to see what Mike Brown Speaking
- 44:00of the NBA offseason. And this is going to be this has
- 44:03been an A crazy couple of days. The Grizzlies gave Jaron Jackson
- 44:08Junior A5 year, $240 million extension with a player player
- 44:15option in 2029. It I'm I'm going to go through
- 44:19this first. Let's go through each and every
- 44:20one of these. Let's not even mention it.
- 44:22I Jaron Jackson Junior is a great defender.
- 44:28He is not a $240 million player. He's not, and anybody that
- 44:33believes that he is. Now, obviously if he doesn't get
- 44:35$240 million from the from them, he goes somewhere else and he
- 44:39gets 220 or even 230 and he's still an elite defender in the
- 44:44NBA. The problem right now is with
- 44:47the Grizzlies and there's a lot of questions to who if John
- 44:50Moran is actually going to last there, if they if the Grizzlies
- 44:53are going to decide, hey, you know what?
- 44:54We don't want to deal with his antics.
- 44:56We're going to move away from him.
- 44:57We don't want to deal with it. That's an interesting reason why
- 45:00I believe they they brought back Jaron Jackson Junior.
- 45:04Now Jaron Jackson Junior is an All Star.
- 45:07He's been an All Star for the last two seasons or even three
- 45:09seasons. He's a good player, he's a
- 45:11quality player and he's a fan favorite.
- 45:14I just don't think he's a 200 and $50 million player.
- 45:17And that to me with the free agent market, what what are?
- 45:20We going to say Errol, there was some breaking news about him
- 45:23today that speedy didn't get down at right after he signed
- 45:27this deal. He had a non affiliated with the
- 45:31team injury. He has a bad turf toe injury.
- 45:35He shut he shut down for 12 weeks before they re evaluate
- 45:40him. If you don't know what turf toe
- 45:41is, that means you tore the ligaments in your big toe.
- 45:45That's what turf toe is, and you probably have nerve damage as
- 45:47well. You may never get that feeling
- 45:50back and the full range of motion in that toe.
- 45:53So that's not a great way to start.
- 45:56Do you remember? Do you remember the last player
- 45:58that got an injury like this and was never the same player?
- 46:01Remember Jacquin? Noah.
- 46:02Remember him, Noah. Remember, well, Noah, he played
- 46:07for the Bulls. He had five great seasons with
- 46:09the Bulls, but Derrick Rose in that team, that was a good
- 46:13overall defensive and offensive team.
- 46:15Jimmy Buckets was there and then what happened?
- 46:17He got turf toe and after that he was never the same player.
- 46:20The Knicks gave him an extension.
- 46:22He comes to the Knicks and how many games did he play with the
- 46:25Knicks? He played barely anything and
- 46:26that was a Phil Jackson sign. Phil Jackson.
- 46:29So it doesn't work. I think this is a terrible
- 46:32injury and I'm very surprised that they didn't have a
- 46:35physical. They didn't give him a physical
- 46:37before this. It was the next day he did.
- 46:40He did it the next day like at some like pick up game.
- 46:44It's unbelievable. That's horrible, unbelievable.
- 46:46Bad break, bad luck for Memphis, right?
- 46:49So Speedy, I don't think you had them written in a great order.
- 46:52So I put them up here. Errol.
- 46:53The big news was the historic contract to Shay Gilgeous
- 46:56Alexander. As far as guys that weren't
- 46:58going anywhere have them split up.
- 47:00He's getting have the highest annual value for contract
- 47:04getting 71.25 million on average over the four year 285 Max deal.
- 47:10Again, he wasn't drafted by the Thunder, therefore he's not
- 47:12eligible for the five year version of.
- 47:14It I will say this, I, I, I think Shay deserves any money
- 47:18that gets offered. Every player I know, I don't
- 47:20attack any players making their money, $71,000,000 a year is a
- 47:24little ridiculous. The last player that I remember
- 47:27got that kind of NBA contract was Dame Don game time when
- 47:31Portland gave him a two year, 60 million a year.
- 47:34I think it was 120 million for 122 million for two years.
- 47:38When I saw that number, I was like, this guy is making $60
- 47:41million and he's like 30 to 33 years old.
- 47:44I, I, Shay is a young guy. He's what, 26 years old?
- 47:49He's he's not even in the prime of his career yet.
- 47:51He's already won his first NBA title.
- 47:53He's won his first MVP. This guy is electrifying.
- 47:57He's a great defender all around player.
- 47:59He's not A1 dimensional player. This guy is going to be around
- 48:02for a long, long time. And this is a cheap contract
- 48:05because just imagine what it's going to be 2-3 years down the
- 48:09road, what these stars are going to get.
- 48:11You see him making 71, you're going to see the next guy make
- 48:14about about 80 or $90,000,000 a year.
- 48:16And we've been talking about this with the NFLII mean Patrick
- 48:20Mahomes is taking less money over the last couple of years
- 48:24because he wants better players and he wants this team to to be
- 48:27a championship competitive team. Tom Brady too, we've seen it.
- 48:30This Shay Alexander, he's not going to take less money, but he
- 48:34is with basketball. If you have a player of this
- 48:36magnitude and you can run your offense through him and remember
- 48:40they are A1 dimensional offense. That's what they are.
- 48:43Everything gets run through Shay and then everybody else.
- 48:46Shay is going to get you 30 to 32 points a game.
- 48:49He's going to do everything right on the defensive side of
- 48:51the ball. Is he worth it?
- 48:53Absolutely. If there's anybody in the NBA
- 48:55right now worth that kind of money at the age of 26, it's
- 48:59Shay Alexander. Congratulations to him on a
- 49:01great season and a great run in the playoffs. 71 Errol Hey, how
- 49:05about this, this breakdown? So 71.25 a year, 5.9 four a
- 49:11month, 1.48 per week, 868,000 per game, 212,000 per day,
- 49:218.8000 per hour, $147.26 per minute and $2.45 per second.
- 49:30He just made like $32 in the time I read that.
- 49:33Well listen, if he ever divorces with his wife, I'll hook him up
- 49:36with one of my sisters. You know, I might take him at
- 49:41that point. Chapelle had his skit back in
- 49:44the day where he got like Oprah pregnant.
- 49:46It was like he pretended he won the lottery.
- 49:49A couple of other ones that. Is winning the lottery that is
- 49:51winning the. Lottery.
- 49:53It's a way, it's a version of winning the lottery, that's for
- 49:55sure. Speedy A couple of names that
- 49:58are a little bit more obscure. Jakob Purdle got $104 million
- 50:03from the Raptors, so the Raptors reaching can have, well, the
- 50:07Raptors have been pretty bad. Speedy, can you give some
- 50:10rationale? Purdle's been a pretty good
- 50:12player for a while. Yeah, he's a solid like big man,
- 50:14like traditional big man. Now, again, that type of money
- 50:17for a traditional big man, I mean, there's only a few teams
- 50:19that would have given it to him because like it's not as valued
- 50:22in today's game as more. I always liked him in college
- 50:25coming out of Utah. He was always never great.
- 50:27He was never a great shooter, but I always thought he was a
- 50:29good passer for a big man. I think Toronto values that kind
- 50:31of thing. That's why I did drafted him and
- 50:32he was a good bench player on that championship team.
- 50:34But again, really hasn't developed much since then.
- 50:36So a little bit too much, but I think again they had to overpay
- 50:39to keep him I guess. Toronto don't don't hold on to
- 50:42players. Over the years, they've had a
- 50:44problem holding on to players, as we saw one go all the way to
- 50:47the finals with Indiana. So it has been a big problem
- 50:50over the years for the Toronto Raptors.
- 50:52And again, I, I didn't watch a lot of Toronto basketball all
- 50:56season long, but I, I do know this kid.
- 50:58Is he worth $104 million? Nobody's worth $104 million.
- 51:02But with the NBA and the way they, they pay their players,
- 51:05remember there's 15 guys on a roster.
- 51:07The money's got to be, you know, he evened out some way and and
- 51:12he's like what? The sixth guy he really is, I
- 51:15don't even think he's a starter. He's like the sixth guy on the
- 51:18Toronto Raptors and you're paying him four years, $104
- 51:21million. If I was the 8th guy that I saw,
- 51:24if I'm not mistaken, it was a Sacramento, their 14th guy is
- 51:28making like 5 or 6,000,000 a year and he never steps on a
- 51:31basketball court. So I just think about that.
- 51:34You can't attack these players for what they're getting.
- 51:37They earned the right to play in the NBA.
- 51:39They earned. And it's guaranteed.
- 51:41It's guaranteed. It's not the NFL.
- 51:43The NFL is the only sport that the money isn't guaranteed.
- 51:47The only sport. And that's why I think the CBA
- 51:50and the NFL and the players union has to figure out how to
- 51:53make this work because it's not fair to the NFL players.
- 51:55They're putting their lives, their bodies and their heads on
- 51:58the line and they're not. They're not getting guaranteed
- 52:00money except the signing bonus. And that's why all these players
- 52:04are asking for a big signing bonus when they sign their long
- 52:06term deals. Or restructure, I guess let's
- 52:10get through the other 3 speedies.
- 52:12And I I really want to hear your take on Julius Randall in a
- 52:15second. But first, James Harden resigned
- 52:17with the Clippers two years, 81.5 million, not surprise,
- 52:21ensuring that 40 million a year gets spread out amongst the
- 52:24strip clubs in Los Angeles. Great job for all those and his
- 52:29and. His beard and his beard
- 52:30maintenance. Beard maintenance companies as
- 52:33well, he obviously. Has one of the best of beard.
- 52:35Yeah, when he first came into the league, when he was drafted.
- 52:38That's freaky. Brutal.
- 52:40He was good in college, too. He was college.
- 52:41He was. Great in college.
- 52:44So that was hard and the T wolves decided that they're
- 52:49going to go all in on the Julius Randall experiment.
- 52:51They traded for him. They got D Vincenzo and Randall
- 52:54for towns. They resigned Randall for three
- 52:57years, 100,000,033.33333 million a year, right.
- 53:02So I don't know I I find that to be an interesting deal,
- 53:06especially after he kind of really did the Julius Randall
- 53:10thing in the last round of the playoffs they were able to be in
- 53:12and he really no showed. I don't know why you give that
- 53:15guy money. That's I.
- 53:16Can tell. You why the Knicks did, but they
- 53:19kind of Barry put them in this hole.
- 53:20Errol, you know, you start with you.
- 53:23How do you feel about this, Randall?
- 53:24Three years, 100 million deal. I don't think it's a bad deal
- 53:27for the Timberwolves because I don't think anybody's going to
- 53:29want to go and play over there. Nobody wants to play with
- 53:30Anthony Edwards. He throws his teammates under
- 53:33the bus. We've seen that over and over
- 53:35and over again. Do you think a superstar like
- 53:37Giannis wants to go and play with Anthony Edwards?
- 53:39He couldn't get along with Karl Anthony Towns.
- 53:41That's why he was traded. Jimmy Buckets obviously couldn't
- 53:44get along with him. He said superstars play with him
- 53:47and they're all gone. It doesn't work.
- 53:49Watch, Gobert is going to get traded too because he can't
- 53:52stand Anthony any Edwards either.
- 53:53He doesn't work well with teammates.
- 53:56Julius Randall, he can handle Anthony Edwards.
- 54:00You know why he can handle Anthony Edwards?
- 54:01Because he's the same type of player as Anthony Edwards.
- 54:05A cry bear, a crybaby bitch. That's what he is.
- 54:08He cries about things and he believes that he's the best
- 54:12player on that roster. Now he's taking a step back
- 54:15since he's gone to the Timberwolves.
- 54:16I believe he thinks that Anthony Edwards is the guy.
- 54:18He's the second guy. But nevertheless, when he was
- 54:21here with the New York Knicks, he's he thought he was better
- 54:23than Jalen Brunson. He thought he was the leader of
- 54:25the team. And that is why he's no longer a
- 54:28nick and he doesn't play well in big games.
- 54:32He's not a big game player and either is Anthony Edwards as
- 54:35we've seen over the last couple of years.
- 54:37So they're practically the same identical player.
- 54:40And Anthony Edwards and him are probably butt buddies.
- 54:42Who knows? They're probably screwing each
- 54:44other in the shower room. I could careless by the way,
- 54:47Anthony Edwards broke up with his baby's moms.
- 54:49Did you guys see that? And the Child Support, he paid
- 54:54the Child Support upfront to his, his, his fiance, whatever
- 55:00she was, just so we can get it out of the way and he doesn't
- 55:02have to deal with it in the future.
- 55:04Could you believe that? That's Anthony Edwards, ladies
- 55:06and gentlemen. That story came out a couple of
- 55:09days ago. I read it.
- 55:10I don't know if it took it to be true, but what I've heard is he
- 55:14broke up with his baby's moms and he paid her upfront the
- 55:17Child Support because he doesn't want to deal with her in the
- 55:20future. That's Anthony Edwards boys.
- 55:22Yeah. Anthony Edwards.
- 55:24What great leadership. What an ass.
- 55:25Oh yeah, what an absolute ass. Has a daughter and that's what
- 55:29he does. There was only one left, Speedy
- 55:32just quickly mention it. This is the guy that people were
- 55:36like, couldn't believe wasn't in the Kevin Durant trade.
- 55:39Jabari Smith Junior. It's a five year, $122 million
- 55:43deal from the Rockets. It's I still don't understand
- 55:45how they were able to get Durant for as cheap as they did this.
- 55:49This was the guy that you, the son, should have been asking
- 55:52for. I guess they were told no.
- 55:55Yeah. What do you got, Speedy on
- 55:57Smith? No.
- 55:57Definitely, definitely. Obviously the top three pick in
- 56:00the same draft with Chet Holmgren and Bonchera, a lot of
- 56:02people thought he could have gone number one at the time.
- 56:04His offensive prowess, I don't think has really been as good in
- 56:07the NBA so far on a consistency basis.
- 56:10But he's a good team player, could do a lot of different
- 56:12things and I think for what the Rockets need with the identity
- 56:15they're trying to bring, especially with the Doka being
- 56:18that Celtics type coach where stressing that defense, he does
- 56:22a lot of different things and he's 22 years old still.
- 56:25So still a lot of room for him to grow.
- 56:26They're paying him early where the market will get up for those
- 56:29types of players later on, especially with the league
- 56:31getting younger as it is. All right, time to talk trades.
- 56:35There weren't any huge, huge trades, but the Nets made a
- 56:38little news trading with the Nuggets for Michael Porter
- 56:41junior giving up Cam Johnson. Love this move for the Nets.
- 56:44Love deal, love, that's interesting that you do.
- 56:46I was going to say I love this move for the Nuggets.
- 56:49I'd like to hear your take on. This Well, Michael Porter
- 56:51junior, I think is a better player than Cam Johnson.
- 56:53He has been a journeyman since he's coming to the league.
- 56:55Now Cam Johnson is a two way player.
- 56:58Michael Porter is is an offensive player.
- 57:00And I, I do believe the Nets need a player that they can
- 57:03build their offense around. They don't really have that.
- 57:05They have Thomas there. But Thomas, I don't know, is the
- 57:09bright light guy that you're going to say, oh, we got my we
- 57:12got Thomas on our team. I think a guy like Michael
- 57:15Porter, he's a known guy. He's a known commodity.
- 57:17He's won an NBA title. He's a winner and I think he's
- 57:21quite capable of being the number one guy on a roster.
- 57:24Now he is going to be the number one guy there.
- 57:27He's going to give you if he's, if the offense is going through
- 57:31him, he's going to score 2425 points a game.
- 57:34He's he's capable of doing that as a third guy on, on that
- 57:38Nuggets team. He was averaging 1718 points a
- 57:41game. Now he's the number one guy.
- 57:43He he can absolutely win games in the Eastern Conference and
- 57:46the Eastern Conference is so much more weaker than the
- 57:48Western Conference, especially when it comes to the back end of
- 57:52the Eastern Conference. So you're going to see Michael
- 57:55Porter put up numbers that we've never seen Michael Porter do.
- 57:58Cam Johnson, I obviously the Nuggets are going with him
- 58:02because of the contract. They don't have to.
- 58:04Michael Porter is making more money, Cam Johnson is making
- 58:06less. And I think, you know, swapping
- 58:09both players and getting a little bit more for the bang for
- 58:12the buck with Cam Johnson because he could do he could be
- 58:14A2 dimensional player. That's why I think the Nuggets
- 58:17went with Cam and why they got Cam and and not make a move with
- 58:21another team and bring in another player in a trade to
- 58:23trade Michael Porter. So I that's the only reason why
- 58:25Cam Johnson is cheaper than Michael Porter.
- 58:27Junior yeah, that I think that the root is the bigger reason.
- 58:29We were talking about the Nuggets lack of bench production
- 58:31last year, a lot like the Knicks at certain points during the
- 58:34year. And obviously that was a big
- 58:35reason why Malone got fired. And again, these veterans that
- 58:39didn't want to come back like Russell, Russell Westbrook
- 58:41already said he he had no desire to come back.
- 58:44He signed. I don't know he signed yet, but
- 58:46you look at now the collective, they got Bruce Brown as well as
- 58:49a free agent, which they probably wouldn't have been able
- 58:50to do if they kept Porter's contract.
- 58:52And the Nets also get a high upside type guy that they still
- 58:54could develop. They want to stay young all at
- 58:56once. If he could stay healthy, he's
- 58:57probably the best player that they have.
- 58:59And scoring wise he doesn't. You're right, Fish.
- 59:02He doesn't do great defensively, but I think he's still better
- 59:04than a lot of the ones they have there.
- 59:06He's going to average 25 points a game.
- 59:08Michael Porter, junior, that's what he's getting.
- 59:10If he could stay healthy though, like this is not a guy that's
- 59:12the picture of health. He came into the league with
- 59:15back questions. That's why he dropped originally
- 59:17in the draft and then he sat out a year.
- 59:19This is this is the type of guy that he's a traitor.
- 59:23You worry. Well, you're right.
- 59:24I mean, because then that's aren't close, right, But the the
- 59:26idea is they, you don't realize they also got an unprotected
- 59:30first round pick in 2032 to get off of Porter because the league
- 59:35views Porter is much lower asset than Cam Johnson because Cam
- 59:38Johnson, Johnson was a 39% three-point shooter last year,
- 59:41better than Porter and Porter's supposed to be the offensive
- 59:43player. So I, I would honestly look at
- 59:46Cam Johnson as a better player going forwards.
- 59:49The age, I don't know if the age is big of a difference, but
- 59:51Porter's been around for a long time.
- 59:53Everybody knows that he's not that it feels like he's not the
- 59:56same player as he was a couple of years ago when they were
- 59:59winning. Obviously a lot of things fell
- 1:00:00apart there in Denver. We don't know the whole picture.
- 1:00:03It's very interesting that he gets a fresh start.
- 1:00:05I just. I really Cam Johnson.
- 1:00:08I thought Cam Johnson was at times the best player on that
- 1:00:10team for long stretches for the Nets.
- 1:00:13I don't think it's consistent enough.
- 1:00:14To be a number of I think you're I think you're looking at Cam
- 1:00:17Johnson a little bit higher than you should be I.
- 1:00:20Do not? Well, I mean they just traded a
- 1:00:21first round pick and Porter for Cam Johnson.
- 1:00:24The reason, the reason why they did that, I'm going to tell you
- 1:00:27why. The reason why they did that is
- 1:00:29because Michael Porter is a little bit older than Cam
- 1:00:32Johnson. That's the only reason why they
- 1:00:34did that. That's the only reason why they
- 1:00:36did that. And Michael Porter is an injury
- 1:00:38prone player. Cam Johnson, besides the the
- 1:00:41couple of years I think when he was on the Suns, the Phoenix
- 1:00:44Suns, he he's been fairly healthy with the the Nets and
- 1:00:48and Michael Porter is an injury prone player.
- 1:00:50If you would ask me right now, you ask any expert who's better,
- 1:00:53Michael Porter junior, Cam Johnson.
- 1:00:55I think a lot of those experts would tell you Michael Porter
- 1:00:57junior when healthy is much better than Cam Johnson.
- 1:01:00But Michael Porter is not. Michael Porter is never healthy,
- 1:01:03and that's the problem. And I think the Nets only
- 1:01:06brought him in to be to use him as a trade ship.
- 1:01:08If he has a good season, they're going to move him at the trade
- 1:01:11deadline to a team that's going to overpay for him if they need
- 1:01:15an offensive option. Well, we know.
- 1:01:17We know Michael Porter is definitely better because Nathan
- 1:01:19said that Kev Johnson was better.
- 1:01:22The the Nuggets also added Yonas Valanciunas, the big center
- 1:01:27kind. Of like bygone.
- 1:01:29Generation does hit the three a little bit.
- 1:01:31Traded him for Dario Sarich, who I didn't even know was still in
- 1:01:34the league, but the Nuggets are definitely trying to retool a
- 1:01:36little. Bit.
- 1:01:38Nikhil Alexander Walker signing trade to the Hawks.
- 1:01:41The Hawks keep making moves. Errol we saw during the draft
- 1:01:45they started with before the draft.
- 1:01:46Even with Porzingis, we saw them make the move in the draft to go
- 1:01:51back and add that unprotected pick next year, so they have a
- 1:01:55real shot at retooling. They're trying to build around
- 1:01:58Trey Young. I don't know if that's the
- 1:02:00wisest decision, though. That's.
- 1:02:02Where I believe that. I don't believe that with the
- 1:02:05Hawks. I think that one way or another,
- 1:02:07they're going to trade Trey Young.
- 1:02:08If not this year, next year. I don't.
- 1:02:10Makes no sense though. Why are you adding like
- 1:02:13ancillary pieces? Because like these guys.
- 1:02:16Because this is an organization that doesn't do anything right.
- 1:02:19When was the last time they did something right?
- 1:02:21OK. And, and, and Trey Young, he's
- 1:02:24the prototypical guy that you're going, he's going to give you,
- 1:02:27if he's healthy, he's going to give you 2829 points a game.
- 1:02:29There is going to be a team out there willing to overspend for
- 1:02:33him. And by the way, next year's
- 1:02:35draft class is much better than it is this past year.
- 1:02:38And I'm telling you right now, don't be surprised at the trade
- 1:02:42deadline that the Hawks just completely pull everything away
- 1:02:45and say, you know what? We're trading this guy.
- 1:02:47We're trading that guy. Oh, yeah, Trey Young, we're
- 1:02:49trading them here. We'll go trade them.
- 1:02:51They're the Golden State Warriors because the Golden
- 1:02:53State Warriors are going to give us their first round traffic.
- 1:02:55It's it's to me, this is just what the Hawks do all the time,
- 1:02:59every single time. They're they're a good team.
- 1:03:02They just trade them away. I it doesn't make any sense.
- 1:03:04Yeah, the Hawks had a stretch obviously with 2008 to I think
- 1:03:072019 where they the longest playoff success rate in the NBAI
- 1:03:11think the longest. I like, by the way, I like the
- 1:03:13Valanciunas move. I love that move for the
- 1:03:16Nuggets. That is a great move for the
- 1:03:19Nuggets because this guy is great on the boards and he's a
- 1:03:22good offensive player in the paint and he's mean.
- 1:03:25He's mean like Yokich and, and that's what you want.
- 1:03:29I I think they're going to play an aggressive type of game and
- 1:03:32and Valanciunas is an aggressive player.
- 1:03:34So I like that move by the Nuggets.
- 1:03:36Great. That was a slam dunk move.
- 1:03:38I know it's not like something that really stands out to you
- 1:03:41guys, but you watch with him and Yokich playing back and forth
- 1:03:45with one another and we can go off each other.
- 1:03:47It's going to work. Yeah, it's going to work.
- 1:03:48You always look at the depth of big man of of being important in
- 1:03:51some facets when it comes to just the production on the
- 1:03:54rebounding end. And again, we saw that like
- 1:03:56accumulating depth wise. Now Valanciunas wasn't on the
- 1:03:59Toronto championship team, he was traded for Marc Gasol, but
- 1:04:02he still was valuable in certain areas to get them to rise to
- 1:04:05that point and the Nuggets to the same kind of thing.
- 1:04:07You want to use Aaron Gordon more as the offensive type big
- 1:04:10man. He's not as good of a raw
- 1:04:11defender as somebody like Valanciunas inside.
- 1:04:14That's been steady his whole. Career loves to pass the ball
- 1:04:17and this guy loves to dunk the ball.
- 1:04:19You're going to see a lot of highlights with Valanciunas and
- 1:04:22like I said, he is mean. He's a mean player.
- 1:04:25Hard fouls, he beat you up in the paint and that's what you
- 1:04:29want to see from a player. Yokich is going to love him.
- 1:04:32These guys are going to be fun to watch, definitely.
- 1:04:34The best backup center he's had. To work with 100% hundred.
- 1:04:38Percent you got to love those big Eastern European dudes just
- 1:04:42like like 7 foot tall in the. Paint there take up space and
- 1:04:45bang and know their they don't. They don't ever try and do too
- 1:04:48much. Don't try to mess with them too
- 1:04:49much. They're obviously guys.
- 1:04:53I wasn't here yesterday and job I kind of wanted to hear your
- 1:04:56take. First I I need to know what you
- 1:04:59think about the Malik Beasley thing because they immediately
- 1:05:02the Pistons sign and traded Duncan Robinson to play
- 1:05:06basically the Beasley role. Now that we know that Beasley
- 1:05:10ain't playing basketball no MO, What?
- 1:05:13What was your take boys, yesterday starting with Java?
- 1:05:16Yeah, it was, it was interesting.
- 1:05:17And and Jake brought up a great clip on just, you know, just how
- 1:05:22and I I said it's like the tip of the iceberg.
- 1:05:24We only see so much. And so who knows how deep this
- 1:05:27really goes. Yeah, it was, it was just
- 1:05:31interesting to see how quick it turned and how it got legs so
- 1:05:37fast. But it's also interesting Arrow
- 1:05:40brought up something why, like the District Attorney and stuff
- 1:05:42was involved and you're just like, well, was he, was he
- 1:05:46laundering money? Was he doing something?
- 1:05:48So and, and we, we were all kind of like interested in it, but we
- 1:05:53don't really know exactly like the whole story of what it is
- 1:05:56and why there's so many people involved in it.
- 1:05:58But the clip that Jake showed us was really, it was a 12 pointer.
- 1:06:03They were 11 1/2. And he literally takes it,
- 1:06:06sprints down the court and dunks and then covers.
- 1:06:09And so you're just like, oh, OK, well, nobody does that now.
- 1:06:13It's looks a little fishy. So this will be interesting to
- 1:06:17see how it plays out. But yeah, he he ain't going to
- 1:06:18be playing for a while. I I like, first of all, I think
- 1:06:22players should be allowed to bet on sports, not their own games,
- 1:06:26but other games. And I don't know if he bet on
- 1:06:28his own game, but if the District Attorney is involved.
- 1:06:31They're saying he did. They're saying that he did, and
- 1:06:33it was like fraught bets. Fine, fine.
- 1:06:35But why is the District Attorney involved with, unless there were
- 1:06:38laundry bring money? Because it was legalized in
- 1:06:41Wisconsin. That's where it happened, right?
- 1:06:43It happened against the Bucks. So if it's legalized in
- 1:06:46Wisconsin, why is the District Attorney involved with it?
- 1:06:49Nobody knows the true story, but everybody is saying, well, we're
- 1:06:52never going to see Beasley again in the NBA.
- 1:06:54That's a bunch of crap if you ask me.
- 1:06:56And and again, if you're going to come out and say, oh, you're
- 1:06:59going to come out with these stories and you're going to say,
- 1:07:01well, this guy's involved and that guy's involved and the
- 1:07:03District Attorney is involved. Why don't we know the whole
- 1:07:06story? Why do we have to wait?
- 1:07:08We knew all about the Otani thing when that came out.
- 1:07:10Why don't we know about this do? We know everything about the.
- 1:07:14No, I told you the MLB brushed it under the rug.
- 1:07:18We all know what happened. That's the facts.
- 1:07:21Fact that Jack and I don't get the Beasley thing.
- 1:07:24And if I were the Knicks, if I were the Knicks, when Beasley
- 1:07:28becomes available, if he becomes available, I'd bring Beasley.
- 1:07:31Dude, he. Won't be playing.
- 1:07:33He's going to be in jail. He's going to be in jail for
- 1:07:36point shaving. We'll still.
- 1:07:38Join Jonte Porter on Tim Donaghy's Prison Basketball
- 1:07:41League. I you got to prove it, you got
- 1:07:43to prove it so. Tim, Tim Donaghy's basketball
- 1:07:46league, That would be the place for just a couple of basketball
- 1:07:49signings. Before we get out of this guys,
- 1:07:52we have to talk about the Bucks waving Dame Lillard using that
- 1:07:57old stretch provision invented for Who's Speedy Stretch.
- 1:08:02Provision Miles. Turner Oh, the stretch.
- 1:08:05Who did it? Who did the Knicks hat?
- 1:08:06Who did the Knicks decide to stretch that ruined them for
- 1:08:09years? Decided to stretch.
- 1:08:12Miles Turner, Lady spit it out. No, no, not miles.
- 1:08:16No, I'm talking about Miles years ago.
- 1:08:17I don't care about this stretch and the Knicks.
- 1:08:19I care about this the. Stretch provision was like
- 1:08:22originally it was called like the Alan Houston rule and they
- 1:08:26had the modified, they modified it the Knicks when they put it
- 1:08:29in as a rule, the Knicks decided to to do the stretch position
- 1:08:33that Chauncey Billups because they thought if they did that,
- 1:08:36they'd have enough money to make a run and it ended terribly.
- 1:08:39So the Bucks are pulling that move, taking the salary that was
- 1:08:43due for Dame, the big money, and stretching it out over five
- 1:08:46years so they could afford to go get Miles Turner on the.
- 1:08:49Floor. This hurts Indiana.
- 1:08:51This hurts Indiana. They lost, certainly.
- 1:08:53Does. Now you think about Indiana
- 1:08:54right now. They lost Tyrese Halperton for
- 1:08:57the whole season with his torn Achilles.
- 1:08:59Miles Myles Turner is a is a big man who could shoot the three.
- 1:09:03He could do so many things on the boards.
- 1:09:05And now you lose him to free agency and now and you lose
- 1:09:09Tyrese Halpern. Indiana went from one of the
- 1:09:11best teams in the east probably falls to like 8 or 9.
- 1:09:15They're nowhere close to the team they were this past season.
- 1:09:19And that absolutely hurts them. So I, I, I, I didn't know, I
- 1:09:23didn't understand why Indiana allowed Miles Turner even to go
- 1:09:26to free agency. And and again, it just tells you
- 1:09:29one thing about Indiana. They had a chance to get Giannis
- 1:09:32and what Hal Burton did and his father did after that series in
- 1:09:38in the first in the first round, probably get pushed away or gave
- 1:09:42him no chances of getting Giannis if he becomes a van
- 1:09:44available because he's not going to want to go and play in the
- 1:09:47with Indiana when how the hall Burtons are there.
- 1:09:50So I that's what would have made made sense to me.
- 1:09:53Oh, we lose Miles Turner, we're going to get Giannis.
- 1:09:56It's not happening anymore and Giannis is getting traded.
- 1:09:59It might not be right now, It might not be in the beginning of
- 1:10:02season. Giannis by the trade deadline is
- 1:10:04getting traded. He's not happy with this
- 1:10:06organization and losing Dame. Dame wasn't playing for the rest
- 1:10:10of the season anyways. He was not playing this year,
- 1:10:12especially at his age. He's what, 3536?
- 1:10:15He tore his Achilles. But Giannis wanted Dame to be
- 1:10:19there. That's why he decided to extend
- 1:10:21his contract. And now Dame is gone.
- 1:10:24Best believe. Giannis, Harold, do you think?
- 1:10:27Do you think as the leader of that team and Giannis, do you
- 1:10:31think they even gave him the respect or wherewithal to talk
- 1:10:34to him and ask him? No, he was surprised.
- 1:10:37He was upset and he was. Surprised, I think that's what
- 1:10:39that's when it came out and said he was upset.
- 1:10:41Like I think if you make that effort to know like why he why
- 1:10:46he signed these because he wanted that guy.
- 1:10:48If you literally like just go and be like, hey, you know what,
- 1:10:52he's getting older and like kind of he may not like it, but at
- 1:10:55least he has to respect you for the fact that he was given the
- 1:10:59respect of like, hey, this is kind of the direction we're
- 1:11:02going. You can't really be pissed about
- 1:11:04that. If they don't, you know, do it
- 1:11:06behind your back and you find out via Twitter or somebody
- 1:11:09tells you, right? It's horrible.
- 1:11:11I I think that that's going to push Giannis out.
- 1:11:13And this is an organization that's been behind his family.
- 1:11:17They're the one that this organization moved Giannis
- 1:11:20family from Greece to America, taking care of him, made sure
- 1:11:24that he was happy, gave him how many contracts?
- 1:11:26I think this is his third contract with the Milwaukee
- 1:11:29Bucks and he's made a lot of money here in in America.
- 1:11:33But now Giannis is at the tail end of his career.
- 1:11:36He wants to win another championship and he knows he's
- 1:11:38not going to win it in Milwaukee.
- 1:11:40This team is old. There's no talent there.
- 1:11:43And I don't care if they bring in Miles Turner.
- 1:11:45Miles Turner is not a superstar. He's a good player.
- 1:11:48He's a quality player. He's not a star.
- 1:11:50So I, I, I don't know how this is going to work.
- 1:11:53I think Miles Turner is going to be Giannis.
- 1:11:56Not as good as Giannis, but he's going to be.
- 1:11:58He's going to be playing the role of Giannis when Giannis
- 1:12:00gets. Traded and it's also he's going
- 1:12:02to have to play the role as like a second option on offense,
- 1:12:04which we can get away with if you're the Pacers offense and
- 1:12:06had a lot of other good shooters around him.
- 1:12:08Milwaukee really doesn't have that right now.
- 1:12:10Yeah, Milwaukee has a lot of similar style type bench
- 1:12:14players. They have a lot of defensive
- 1:12:16forwards type thing and I think they even they resigned Bobby
- 1:12:19Porter's, but I think they lost someone else.
- 1:12:21They lost Brook Lopez too. So like it just I don't have a
- 1:12:24lot of depth. Obviously we know Doc Rivers is
- 1:12:26not not the greatest coach either and he's going to run
- 1:12:29that team into the ground if the front office hasn't done more
- 1:12:31enough of it already. And that's definitely going to
- 1:12:33make Giannis much more frustrated.
- 1:12:35Now, again, the rumors did not say Giannis requested the trade
- 1:12:38officially, but it seems like it's leaning in that direction.
- 1:12:42Well, if you're a Rockets fan, Jabba, you would absolutely have
- 1:12:46to be pumped about pumped up about this offseason.
- 1:12:49We already mentioned the trades that we mentioned the big move
- 1:12:53to get the big man Durant, not having to give up Jamari Smith
- 1:12:56and extending him. Look at what they also did.
- 1:12:59They got Clint Capela back, their old rebounder.
- 1:13:02They brought him back three-year deal at older age and they
- 1:13:04brought in another guy locally that we've seen for a while,
- 1:13:07Dorian Finney Smith on a four year, $53 million deal.
- 1:13:12As a fan just in general Java, if your team is loading up like
- 1:13:16that, how excited are you? Well, I think it's they're
- 1:13:19filling holes and not spending a buttload of money, not just
- 1:13:22putting all your eggs in one basket.
- 1:13:24And you know, when you, when you go and see kind of where you
- 1:13:27need to fix and not necessarily fix, but you know, add and
- 1:13:31subtract and, and to be able to do it and with, you know, good
- 1:13:35contracts that are good for, you know, obviously Capella being a
- 1:13:38little bit older and, and knowing his role, but you know,
- 1:13:41get that three-year, that comfort and to fill those spots
- 1:13:43and, and Finney Smith with what he is able to do.
- 1:13:46I just think when they're filling spots and see that
- 1:13:48they're making an effort, you can only be excited about them
- 1:13:51trying to put that team in a position to win.
- 1:13:54So I, I think they filled some holes that that they really,
- 1:13:57really needed and. Clint Capela has been a
- 1:13:59journeyman for the last, I don't know, 5-6 years.
- 1:14:03I was going to say like 7-8 years probably.
- 1:14:05He's been a journeyman. He's a good player.
- 1:14:07He's a good defensive player. His offense is really one.
- 1:14:10He doesn't have much of an offense.
- 1:14:12He doesn't shoot very well for a four sometimes.
- 1:14:15You know, with the Hawks, he was playing five at some points of
- 1:14:18the season. So a Capella is a good player.
- 1:14:21He's a good rebounder, but he's not a great player.
- 1:14:23So he's a good guy off the bench.
- 1:14:27That's what I would say Clint Capela is.
- 1:14:28He's not a starter anymore. That's definitely not a starter
- 1:14:32anymore, but still a useful guy in the league.
- 1:14:34And we said the other team that's loading up is the Hawks.
- 1:14:37They also add Luke Canard, A Dookie, Errol, an old Dookie.
- 1:14:41A nice sharpshooter on a wing player doesn't play a lick of
- 1:14:46defense. Canard was on the Duke team that
- 1:14:48lost to South Carolina. Got news for you guys?
- 1:14:50Most Duke players don't play defense when they come to the
- 1:14:54NBA. JJ Reddick is another one.
- 1:14:56Shane Battier played a lot of. Yeah, Battier did.
- 1:14:59Grant Hill played two. He was A2 dimensional player.
- 1:15:02Kyrie Irvino play a lick of defense.
- 1:15:04I mean, if you go up and down the the great Duke players that
- 1:15:07have played in the NBA, Jason Tater plays defense, but very
- 1:15:11few of them that become good players in the NBA play a lick
- 1:15:14of defense. So that's very that's very Coach
- 1:15:18K Esque who actually preaches defense.
- 1:15:21So figure that one out. It doesn't make anything.
- 1:15:22That's true. At least the guys that play for
- 1:15:24him slam their hands on the floor trying to pretend like
- 1:15:27they're playing defense. The last guy I got here, speedy
- 1:15:31Gershon Yabaselli, goes to the Knicks.
- 1:15:34I like this. And that's the guy from the
- 1:15:36French team. That's the, I guess he's like a
- 1:15:396-8 center, sort of, yeah. But he's an outside stretch guy,
- 1:15:43basically. Right.
- 1:15:44He's going to be like a stretch 4 type thing, could do a lot of
- 1:15:47different things and again, a good contract for a player well
- 1:15:50round he always like to see that when a player is not just one
- 1:15:52type of specialist either. You could use him in many
- 1:15:54different rotations. We were talking about where
- 1:15:56we're talking about the Knicks with Mike Brown, how he's going
- 1:15:58to like play the best to be a lot different.
- 1:16:00And that's I think a big key. When you look at somebody like
- 1:16:03that, he's a perfect type of prototype.
- 1:16:05You saw him a lot have a lot of those types of players with the
- 1:16:06Cavs when LeBron was younger, those types of rotational power
- 1:16:09forward types. And Sacramento, it didn't work
- 1:16:12as well, but they I think it was more they just built the team
- 1:16:14that way because they were much more backward oriented.
- 1:16:15Team and I, I will say this, what the Knicks are trying to do
- 1:16:19now is pretty obvious. They're going French.
- 1:16:21That's where they're going. They got 3 French.
- 1:16:24Players. For three years.
- 1:16:27I, I hope not. I, I mean, I'm not a Wendy fan.
- 1:16:30I know a lot of Knick fans would be excited to have Weben Yama,
- 1:16:33but I, I just, I'm not a fan of his.
- 1:16:36So those are one of the guys I know everybody says, oh, you
- 1:16:38don't like, how could you not like Steph Curry?
- 1:16:40Why are you not like Weben Yama? I, I just think he was overrated
- 1:16:44when he come to, came to the NBA.
- 1:16:45And anybody that wants to come out and say that this guy could
- 1:16:48go down as one of the greatest or if not the greatest NBA
- 1:16:51player of all time, you're on drugs because nobody's going to
- 1:16:54be better than Michael Jordan no matter how many championships,
- 1:16:57webbing, Yama wins. And by the way, I'll be
- 1:16:59surprised if he wins more than two.
- 1:17:01OK, that's all I'm going to say about that.
- 1:17:04That's. It all right and guys, there'll
- 1:17:06be more stuff, I'm sure, and basketball this offseason.
- 1:17:09But for now, that was the first rendition of our free agent
- 1:17:13round table. And I I want to say something
- 1:17:15else. This is not great Popovich
- 1:17:17anymore. The Spurs, they brought in Dylan
- 1:17:20Harper. I love Dylan Harper.
- 1:17:21I think he's going to be a great player.
- 1:17:23How it and everybody's attacking me on TikTok right now saying
- 1:17:27how could you say that the Aaron Fox and Dylan Harper won't work
- 1:17:31And it's pretty simple D Aaron Fox is 6 foot 3.
- 1:17:35So what are you going to do you're going to move Dylan
- 1:17:37Brooks to a shooting guard position where he's more of a
- 1:17:40point guard. You're going to play A2
- 1:17:42dimensional point guard game where these guys are going to
- 1:17:45crossover and hog the ball and not give the ball to webbing
- 1:17:48Yama. It's not going to work you're
- 1:17:50going to see it's not going to work they're going to have to
- 1:17:52decide and they're going to decide to go with the rookie
- 1:17:55Dylan Harper. This has happened.
- 1:17:57This the same thing happened in Sacramento when you had Hal
- 1:18:01Burton there and D Aaron Fox. They they had to make a
- 1:18:03decision. Do we want to keep the Aaron Fox
- 1:18:06or do we want to keep Tyrese Halpern?
- 1:18:08Well, guess what? They made the wrong decision.
- 1:18:10As much as I like the Aaron Fox, Tyrese Halpern has been the
- 1:18:14better player over the last two seasons.
- 1:18:16That's the fact. Jack Sacramento has not gone
- 1:18:20past the first round. Indiana has been in multiple,
- 1:18:24multiple positions to go far in the playoffs.
- 1:18:28As a matter of fact, last year before this year, they were in
- 1:18:30the Eastern Conference finals when they got knocked out by the
- 1:18:32Celtics. And this past year they were in
- 1:18:34the finals. Maybe next year.
- 1:18:36Well, not next year because they're not healthy.
- 1:18:37But you, you got what I'm saying?
- 1:18:39Hal Burton is a game changing player, is the Aaron Fox.
- 1:18:44He's not. And that's that's all I'm going
- 1:18:46to say. You got to you got to decide who
- 1:18:47you're going to keep. And I know fans are not going to
- 1:18:49like it. It's going to be Dylan Harper.
- 1:18:51And by the way, Dylan Harper is a beast.
- 1:18:54He is a beast of a player, defense, offense, 6 foot 6 and
- 1:19:00his father. Does anybody know who Ron Harper
- 1:19:02is? Well, go look him up.
- 1:19:04He played on those Chicago Bulls teams.
- 1:19:06He is a all world defensive player.
- 1:19:09And if Dylan Harper has any kind of style of defense like his
- 1:19:12father, his father wasn't a really good offensive player.
- 1:19:15Dylan does. You have an offensive player and
- 1:19:17a defensive player like a prototype of Ron Harper.
- 1:19:20Watch out. This guy could be as super as a
- 1:19:23superstar should be. So.
- 1:19:25Ron Harper, the guy that would hypothetically shut down the top
- 1:19:284 ball handler of all time, Steph Curry, according to
- 1:19:31somebody. I'm going to tell you this,
- 1:19:32right? Now what an idiot it's going to
- 1:19:36be, isn't it? Isn't it funny Dylan Harpers
- 1:19:38rookie contract is more than his dad made in his career?
- 1:19:41Yeah, that sounds accurate. But you know, when you're when
- 1:19:45your father is Ron Harper, you think Ron Harper gives a crap,
- 1:19:48He's going to get a piece of that money.
- 1:19:50His old Sonny boy will take care of his old daddy Dukes and his
- 1:19:54mom. By the way, his mom was a good
- 1:19:56athlete too. So if you know the background of
- 1:19:58the Harper family, I think he has a sister that's a good
- 1:20:01athlete, a track and field runner.
- 1:20:03I mean, the family is loaded with talent when it comes to
- 1:20:06athletic ability. So congratulations to Dylan
- 1:20:08Harper. I, I can't wait to watch him
- 1:20:10play with Webb and Yama. I'm not a Webb and Yama fan, but
- 1:20:13I'm a Dylan Harper fan. And I will buy a Dylan Harper, a
- 1:20:16Dylan Harper jersey because I root him on he he played for a
- 1:20:20New Jersey. Jersey team, he's out here on
- 1:20:21the East Coast and I love watching him play, so it's
- 1:20:25going. To be I'm glad he's in the NBA
- 1:20:26so I don't have to watch him beat our ass every year.
- 1:20:29The big team. They got 2.
- 1:20:32Great. I'll tell you this, both Rutgers
- 1:20:34going to be stars. They're going to be stars.
- 1:20:37Now one of them just needs to learn how to shut his mouth.
- 1:20:39Dylan Harper doesn't talk. He he lets his game do the
- 1:20:42talking. We'll see what happens with the
- 1:20:44guy over there in Utah. Everybody enjoyed it.
