Transcript
- 0:01SPEAKER_01: Hey, this is Dr.
- 0:02SPEAKER_01: David with Hedgehog Inc., and I have a friend of mine, Ian Bouillard, here, to talk about the election and the five stages of grief.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: Listen, hey, it's Doc David.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: Head shrink ink.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: Hello, how's how's it going?
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Is everyone surviving?
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Ian, are you surviving are you surviving this election nightmare?
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: Is it a nightmare though?
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: No, it's more like that uh that movie you don't want to watch, but you're already like 45 minutes into it, then you can't not finish it because you gotta see how it ends.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: Is there a movie that you've seen like that?
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: Some probably Barbie movie with your daughter.
- 1:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, the that like back before there was Netflix originals, yeah, right?
- 1:06SPEAKER_02: It's like some studio comes out and just says, Yeah, we're gonna throw some money at this, which would have better been spent on a fire.
- 1:13SPEAKER_02: But they decided to get a couple guys out of CGI school and throw, you know, throw something terrible to get into no story.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: Yes, I've seen movies like that before.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: Um, so Ian's a dad, he's a friend.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: We have another podcast that we do called the Epic Dad.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: Not the, but it's Epicdadpodcast.com.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: Um and uh we're working on that.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: It's nothing's been published yet.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: We're still working on the uh the website and the logo and stuff, but that will be coming out soon.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: That that podcast is about just he and I as two dads talking about life and what it means to be an epic dad, tongue in cheek, I should say, right?
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: Because I don't think I'm an epic dad.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: No, definitely for the stuff.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: And I know Ian's not an epic dad, so absolutely not.
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: So I'm more like a value village, goodwill dad.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: Which there's nothing wrong with that.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: No, nothing wrong with that.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: Because you there's feelings too.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: You can find good things.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: And uh what what drink are you enjoying there?
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: Some uh seltzer water.
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: Seltzer water.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: Oh, I meant in the other cup of the apple cider I gave you.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: Oh, in the other cup, yeah.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: Uh apple cider.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: Strangely enough.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: Alright, so so if you haven't been aware, there's been an election that's gone on, and if you don't know about this election, you've either been living in a cave.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: Or you just woke up from a coma.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:35SPEAKER_02: Or you're dead.
- 2:36SPEAKER_02: So, first and foremost, we'd like to formally apologize on behalf of the rest of the human race.
- 2:42SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: I I wouldn't that be terrible to wake up from a coma to this?
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: Come on.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: I the one thing that I want to make sure that I don't do is buy into the media narrative.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: And I know that people I think that I never used to believe that when people say, oh, you're just you're just buying into the media narrative.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: But this election has really made me realize that the media has this bias that they want you to believe.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: And I think with the advent of social media, the internet, that's that bias has slowly been erased, or um it's been what's the word I'm looking for?
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: Dismantled.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: This starting to be dismantled.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: I mean, because I'm disassembled.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: Just think it back, think about, and and we're getting off topic, but uh think it back in the 70s when there was none of this social media stuff, and how the power that those so that the news organizations could influence people.
- 3:37SPEAKER_02: The power uh or the time.
- 3:39SPEAKER_02: I mean, look at go back to the 90s.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: I mean, up to up to social media, yeah, Twitter, and et cetera, et cetera.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: So that's that's definitely conversations for another podcast.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: But today I want to talk about the the five stages of grief and how it relates to um this election.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: So one of the things that I've seen, and maybe you've seen it too, is is there's these people that are were so emotionally involved with Hillary Clinton's campaign that when it came about that she was losing or lost, um, they just broke down.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: And have you seen those pictures?
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: And the the interesting thing that I saw was it was happening like in front of our the these five stages of grief were happening in front of our eyes.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: In a matter of seconds, yeah, and not just with not just with your average Joe, but it was happening with news anchors, yeah.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: And CNN or MSNBC or Fox News or wherever.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: Live on TV.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it was just so fascinating to me as a person that studies human behavior, just to see it playing out.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: Um, the original Five Stages of Grief, it was created by it's called the Kubler-Ross model.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: Um, what does that mean?
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: That's who created it.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: It was created by um Um Elizabeth Kubler Ross in her I'm reading now, her 1969 book on deaf and dying.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: And it was inspired by her work with terminally terminally ill patients, and so it's pretty much the standard go-to thing now, and people talk about the five stages of grief.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: And usually it's it relates to, I mean, you could probably think back in your own life about something that created grief for you, yeah.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: And maybe even you going, remembering going through these stages.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: Now, I've always seen these stages related to relationships where there's a breakup, there's something there's a death in the family, um, there's some type of terminal illness that's happening, or there's a job loss, or something like that.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: But I've never seen it um in relationship to an election.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: And so that's what I thought was yeah.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: Not even not even during the uh the two Obama elections?
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: No, not to this degree.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: I mean, I I was actually trying to think back through it.
- 5:55SPEAKER_02: Well, nothing compares to this degree.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: I mean, this is crazy.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, even the the there's that meme now that says how many oh, look at all the riots that happened, and then it lists when Clinton was elected two times and when Obama was elected two times, and how there were no riots, and and so there's a lot.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, again, we're gonna do another podcast on Epic Dad podcast about the politics of this, but um so this grief the there's the five stages of grief, um and I'll just um read them off really quickly and then we'll go into each one specifically.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: So denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and then acceptance.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: And so like I said before, I mean, there it happens with children that are um struggling with divorce of their parents.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: Um, it sometimes happens within the realm of substance abuse, and again, like I have never I haven't seen it in the realm of this, like an election cycle before.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so let's talk about the first one.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: Um I'm gonna say it, and then you can maybe give me an idea of what you saw or or something that you heard or or read.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: So the first stage is denial.
- 7:03SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: Um, so in this election, where did you see that first stage of denial?
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: Based on the election results?
- 7:13SPEAKER_02: That or the campaign or while what are we talking about?
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about election night on.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: Um because we want to limit it.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: So election night on, you did you see um the initial stage of denial?
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like can you think of an example?
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: Uh see, I think I was watching the YouTube live feed of NBC and um in all fairness, NBC has a very well polished uh product.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: And very well spoken um TV anchors.
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: That that is the I believe other than CNN, that's the most watched news source.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: I think he that's someone that Chuck Todd, right?
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: I think is the Chuck Todd.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: He has a goatee, like a goatee, and yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: Um Dan Rather.
- 8:09SPEAKER_02: He he's the screen screen poker, yeah, right?
- 8:11SPEAKER_02: You know, the guy that stand there, like, well, uh if uh so-and-so wins this many and this many here in this district, you know, that whole thing.
- 8:19SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, I mean, it initially there was like once it got, once Trump tipped the 200 mark, it was like you just saw this giant yellow light come on.
- 8:34SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 8:35SPEAKER_02: And and um, and I still don't know how I feel about it, right?
- 8:40SPEAKER_02: But but but you could see these guys and and women like processing, and then you'd see them, you'd see that moment when someone's talking, someone's feeding them information because they're all what your ear pieces, right?
- 8:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and they need to.
- 8:55SPEAKER_02: That's important in that job.
- 8:57SPEAKER_02: But I'm not saying they're being force-fed lines, uh you just see the concentration of I have to be fully engaged with the viewer.
- 9:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm being fed information, and I can't believe what's happening.
- 9:12SPEAKER_02: What is happening all at the same time?
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, complete utter disbelief.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, so I said someone had made a montage of the five stages of grief, and you could probably find it on YouTube if you Google it.
- 9:26SPEAKER_01: Um, and yeah, it's like I remember the beginning conversation when it j when the when the polls just opened, right?
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: And they started reporting, and oh yeah, Donald Trump, he's not this is gonna be his only path to victory.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: And so when he started traversing that path and maybe winning some places that he didn't wasn't supposed to win, you could see some like trepidation.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: I was listening to the radio as well, and uh it was funny just to hear people trying to just be very even keeled, knowing what their um political bias is.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, and but I mean it was interesting to see the dynamic denial.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: So um the second part was the anger, the second um stage is anger.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: So um so when the individual recognizes that denial cannot continue, they become frustrated, especially at proximate individuals, so people around them get frustrated with them.
- 10:19unknown: Sure.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: Um now I saw that, and you can tell me where you saw.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: I saw that more not with with anchors, but I saw that with um just people on the street.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: Because those anchors are professionals, and so they can't they have to control themselves to some degree.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: I did see a clip of Rachel Maddow, who's um MSNBC, and and she was kind of letting her This is your life now.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: What?
- 10:43SPEAKER_02: This is the world we live in.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, you saw that too.
- 10:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: Um that's that that is in all fairness to be to take center here.
- 10:55SPEAKER_02: Because that's that's where I position myself predominantly anymore these days.
- 11:00SPEAKER_02: That has to be said in in her defense.
- 11:03SPEAKER_02: Uh that that needs to be stated.
- 11:05SPEAKER_02: But this is the life we have today, but not not facing it like, oh, here's this giant atom missile coming at us.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: But she's not saying it as a factual statement, she's saying it as a person that I think is in disbelief.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: Oh, sure.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: Or has that anger.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: Aren't you?
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: Are you not in disbelief?
- 11:28SPEAKER_02: Come on.
- 11:28SPEAKER_02: You have a you have a uh, let me set the table here.
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: Are you are you look at let's look at this ink on paper.
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: Are you not in disbelief that we have the host of the apprentice as president-elect?
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: Um I I don't know, I'm trying to be honest here.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: I I'm more apathetic.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: Okay, I think that I think that um what happens in like so Obama had two terms, right?
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: And so um he first he first ran on the hope and change.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: Um, there's gonna be hope and change.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: And then I'm gonna run on these promises, right?
- 12:08SPEAKER_02: Like every president ever.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and and then more than mo most of those promises never came through.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: Oh, if you have your if you want to keep your doctor, you can keep your doctor wrong.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: Premiums won't go up wrong.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: And so I I just become cynical, I guess.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: And so I think of him running, and I think is how is it really gonna affect me?
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: Now, someone could say, Well, you're a white man, of course it's not gonna affect you, and of course you don't care.
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: But I have I know people that I've interacted with since the election that are gay and are uh people of color who voted for Trump, yes, and they don't view it the way that Rachel Mattout did or these other anchors do, or the protesters.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: So I don't think it's an easy answer.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: Um, okay, so there's the there's the second stage, this is which is anchor.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: So the third stage is bargaining.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: And where I saw this with with on the news at least was um people trying to start talking, oh wow, he has 200 electoral votes.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: Well, maybe he's gonna maybe he's gonna make it through.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: Maybe he's reached to some voters that we're not aware of.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: Oh, it seems like and so they start talking themselves into oh, there's this possibility that this presidency that they couldn't believe was even in existence is actually gonna be happening, possibly.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: Um, did you see anything that like sticks out on you in the bargaining phase?
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: Well, like like where like where they're legitimately trying to reason with with the plausibility, yeah, where they're like trying to wrap their mind around.
- 13:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the uh for instance that the the screen guy we were just talking about, the goatee on on MSNTC.
- 13:57SPEAKER_02: Chuck Todd, if you're listening to this, I'm sure you're a great guy.
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: Uh you have a very tough job that I don't ever want to have.
- 14:04SPEAKER_02: Uh, but I'll say this Chuck Todd was, you could, um and again, my bias in all of this is that the media is corrupt, period.
- 14:17SPEAKER_02: And that's been proven through the WikiLeaks stuff that no one wants to talk about.
- 14:22SPEAKER_02: Um, that's the giant, uh, as real as gravity is true, uh, elephant in the room.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: Project Veritas.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: Have you ever heard of Project Veritas?
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: It gets it gets it's hit the fan, it's everywhere, it's in our eyes, but everyone's pretending like it's not there.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: Um so yeah, Chuck Todd was backpedaling kind of.
- 14:45SPEAKER_02: Uh maybe maybe it's not even considered backpedaling.
- 14:48SPEAKER_02: Maybe he's just trying to do his job.
- 14:49SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: But you you can hear the gears kind of grinding as he's trying to find, you know, he's downshifting, and like, well maybe he got through to this people group here.
- 15:03SPEAKER_02: Maybe he got into this community here, and maybe and then and then but it that immediately goes from the plausibility of can we call him president-elect to well, let's see here, the Clinton organization needs to attack here, here, and here.
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: And I'm thinking, well, attack.
- 15:19SPEAKER_02: I mean, and really all they're doing is they're selling TV time because none of this matters.
- 15:23SPEAKER_02: There's only um uh 500 and what is it, 538 electoral votes, and that's all that matters.
- 15:30SPEAKER_02: Your vote doesn't matter.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: Well, the other thing, uh and this goes like the NBC.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: I I would watch the NBC feed on YouTube, but then I would go to Google, which had w which was refreshing every 10 seconds.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and so basically a truly live update.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so basically he had one on Google, yeah, but it was still like three states behind on NBC.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: And at some point I thought this is why people don't watch like why they're gonna go away from media.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: Because I think the only way from live TV.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because the only reason that they were keeping these talking heads going, I think commercial were commercials.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: That's all it is, and I just think that's I don't know, that that's not truthful, it's deceitful.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: And I think that absolutely I think that deceitful people, that deceitfulness people are tired of.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: Um, all right, so the bargaining was happening.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: Then I think what I clearly saw after the election was called for Trump, and I think I'm seeing it now, and you were just counting how many political posts you saw on your time on your feed on Facebook, is the depression stage.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: Like I'm so sad, I'm scared, I'm terrified, I can't believe this is happening.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: Um I I mean, we uh if you've been keeping up on social media, you can't you couldn't have helped but see.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: And currently, if you go right now to your post to your social media feed, you'll see people that either voted for Bernie or Hillary um complaining and sad and fearful, and and uh what I believe starting false narratives about who Trump is and who he will be and what things will be like under his presidency.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: And I say false narratives because um of having conversations with my my couple gay friends and African American friends that have that don't believe the things that I'm seeing on Facebook.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: Um so the depression piece is definitely there.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: Oh clearly.
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: Um and it is interesting because the the the last stage is acceptance.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: And I you know, if if I'm working with a person who has these stages of grief and they just stay stuck in depression, um, I what I've seen is that they their life becomes miserable, they get stuck, and they then they get into the cycle of just bouncing back from anger and depression, anger and depression, and they become a victim.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: And um I think I mean there's calls for unity even from people that didn't vote for for Trump, which I think is admirable, honorable, and what a lot of people did when Obama was elected as well, like calling for unity.
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: Um, but I I think if people don't go to the it's gonna be okay, I can't fight it, I may as well prepare for it.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: Um I'm going to work within this government that we've lived in for the you know, that's been in that's been created for the last 200 and odd years, some odd years.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: Um because if people don't accept it, I think that those people, I mean everyone else in the country is gonna move on.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: But I think that those people eventually.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, eventually.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: I mean, because that's just the way things have to work.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: You have to move on with things.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: And you do the you do the best with what you have.
- 18:57SPEAKER_01: And so I think that um some people have gone through that stage of acceptance where they're starting to accept the results, but I think a lot a lot of the protesters we see now, I think they're in that depression anger, they're stuck right now.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: I think and and by the way, shout out to those protesters from the ones I've seen.
- 19:16SPEAKER_02: Uh I'm a Portland native, and the live feeds I've been watching are a bunch of people that as soon as someone gets rowdy and tries to incite violence, you know, like there was a perfect example.
- 19:28SPEAKER_02: There's a TriMet, which is the bus service in Portland, right, driving down the street, and they pushed a dumpster in front of it, or or there was a you know humans, yeah, uh human chain, you know, blocking the bus.
- 19:42SPEAKER_02: And that poor bus driver, right?
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: Like, how sad is that?
- 19:47SPEAKER_02: And and and that person is like that's like being stuck in an aquarium.
- 19:52SPEAKER_02: What are you what are you gonna do?
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: And you're surrounded by a bunch of angry people, right?
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: And there's that one psychopath that is looking for a big blunt object to start breaking out windows, and then you see these other people, uh it doesn't matter what age demographic they they are associated with, they're in the streets with the people and they're extinguishing this.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: Now, that may not happen forever, but uh I have it has to be stated that there are some people that are doing taking a very peaceful approach to this.
- 20:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:23SPEAKER_02: Um and you know, it it it does it work long term?
- 20:30SPEAKER_02: I'd like I'd like to think so, right?
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: Freedom of speech, let's defend it, but at the same time, um you gotta you have to be wise with with with your delivery, with your execution.
- 20:43SPEAKER_02: And when you see the crazies, you gotta you gotta put that out right away.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: And so I think like it I'm glad you s you brought that up because I think that is maybe a way towards acceptance.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: So if people feel like they can work through the this is a way to work through the depression, like they're I'm sad about this outcome, I'm scared.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and so I'm gonna go out and yell and scream about it, and then go back to living my life, and then I realize, oh wow, nothing's really changed.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: I think that's a way to get to that acceptance.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: But one of the things I'd encourage people listening to this podcast is if you find yourself stuck in that kind of depression place and going back and forth from depression to anger, um, and you are a victim, you feel like you're a victim of of what's happened in this election, definitely I'd seek out a competent like therapist to help you kind of struggle through that.

- 21:38SPEAKER_01: Um, you'll your friends and family won't want to be around you, and you might lose your job.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: And and I think that's a real that's a real thing that happens when people have a person that dies in their life.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: If they stay stuck for too long and they don't get go through these stages in a proper way, um they will it just affects their life in a very negative way.
