- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Okay, first of all, I'd like for all of you to bow and I'm gonna say a short prayer.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Uh dear Heavenly Father, I just uh thank you for giving me the opportunity uh to share the story uh that I'm about to share this evening, and I pray that you give me the words that you would like want me to say.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Um and that if there is somebody here that I just pray that it blesses them and that in everything that I say and do, um, that it glorifies you, Lord.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Uh thank you for the again for this opportunity and for this church and for the ministry that it provides.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: In Jesus' name, amen.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Um I'm one of seven kids, um, and I was raised in a large Italian Catholic house household.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Um, and we moved here from Des Moines to Des Moines, Iowa, um right after my first grade yeah and we had no can you hear?
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Um did everybody hear that?
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Okay, it's reverberating back on me.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Okay, um I had said that I was raised in a very large family.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: There were seven of us kids with my mom and dad, and we'd moved here from Des Moines, Iowa.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Gotta turn my timer on here.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Um, and all of our family, all of our relatives, lived in Des Moines, so when we moved here, it was just our family.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: So our family was really close and we did almost everything together.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: And um, my father was probably one of the smartest people that I ever knew.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Um he was the account manager at Goodyear, and I'll talk about him a little bit later in my story.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: But um we didn't have a lot of money growing up.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: I mean, with seven kids and my mom staying at home, um, but we never wanted for anything.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Um and they were very strict parents.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Um, I mean, being from a Catholic family, we had rules and regulations and we were to follow them.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Um and because we didn't have a lot of money uh during my junior high and high school year, I did every sport that there was that you could do in junior high and high school because it was back then, you know, that was a thing to do.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Um and so that's why I have going to be having knee surgery here in a month or so, is because of all the sports that I did.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: Um and I had had my first communion and confirmation as a child, but then later as an adult, um I was baptized out at Lake Javaro.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Um, and so that's one of the reasons why Larry and I really like to do the baptisms at our house, is because that meant so much to me because I rededicated my life to Jesus at that time.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Um and like I had said, my dad was um the manager of the accounting department at Goodyear.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: And in my teenage years, um he had counseled me on what classes I needed to take.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: He asked me what I wanted to do, you know, when when I grew up and and started out on my own, and um I followed in his footsteps.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: Um I went into finance and business.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: Um so those were the type of classes that I took when I was in junior high and high school.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: But my sophomore year, I'd started at McDonald's, um, out on Topeka Boulevard.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: I know there's a lot of you ladies here that I don't know if you cruised the boulevard when you were in your teenage years, but that was one of the things that we did after we got off work.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: Um we went out and cruised the boulevard, cruised the boulevard, and unfortunately at that time I became a party animal.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: Um we were started drinking and just hanging out out on the boulevard, and uh back in those days there were discos.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: So are there other people here that went to discos?
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Um so and that is where I met the love of my life was at Sunny Sam's out on Topeka Boulevard.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: We met on October 31st.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Um, and Larry said he didn't know what he was getting because I was in costume.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: So, um, and we um he had asked me to marry him after just 30 days.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Um, and he had said at that time that he he said, I knew that you were the one I wanted to marry, but it took him five years before we got married.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: Um where were we at?
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: Um and I I worked at McDonald's all the way up until I was in high school.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: And then after I graduated, I needed to find a job that had benefits because when you turn 18, you're no longer on your mom and dad's insurance.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: And so because I was wanting to go into finance and business, I'd I'd started at Shawnee Federal as a teller, but they actually paid for my college education.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: Anything that I did in accounting and business, and that's all I took, was accounting and business classes.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: I didn't have to take all the other fluff classes that you have to do.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: And they paid for it as long as I maintained a 3.5 grade point average.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: And so I had done that until 1982, and that's when I became pregnant with twins.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: And I was pregnant out to here, going to Henderson Learning Center and completing one of my last accounting classes.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: And so, needless to say, I never did graduate with a business or accounting degree, because I never went back to school after that.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: And then I was blessed with two beautiful, very high-energy boys, um, and they are the joy of my life.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: Um, and I had planned on going back to work, but only part-time after my boys were born.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: Um, but that did not work out.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: Um, when I was on maternity leave, I was off for two months before with total bed rest, um, and then I was off two months after because I'd had a C-section.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: And so they had offered me the branch manager position at that time, and it was that was one of my goals was to earn my way up to that position.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: And so I had took it, but that meant that I had to work full-time.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: And so I continued working full-time until it was time for the kids to start school.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: And Larry and I had prayed about um sending our kids to private school, um, and we had decided that we were gonna send them to care paraval, but I was gonna quit my job because I wanted to stay home with them.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: That was gonna be the only year I could spend individual time with each one of them because when you have twins, they're always together, and so I wanted individual time with each one, so I put one in morning kindergarten and one in afternoon kindergarten, and I had all the benefits, and and with my pay, I thought, how are we gonna do this?
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: But we had made that decision that for that one year I was gonna do that.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: And I'd gone to kindergarten roundup.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: Um, and I know a lot of you guys may have known Aletha Rogers, who was a kindergarten teacher there, and I told her, I said, Aletha, I don't know how we're gonna do this because I'd like to be able to quit my job and stay home with the boys, but as you know, tuition's high.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: And she goes, Well, would you be interested in doing the afterschool peer?
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: And so I talked to her about what that was gonna be, and so I ended up doing that three nights a week, and it ended up paying for all of their tuition that first year.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: And then that spring, um Tom Eddy, who was the headmaster at that time, had called me and he knew my background was in business and finance and said that the business director was no longer gonna do it, and would I be interested in becoming the business manager?
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: So I ended up doing that and becoming the that business manager at CareParille, and I worked there through the kids' sixth grade through sixth grade.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: Um, and then I had to quit because you have to have kids in school to be able to be employed by Care Paraville.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: So at that time um I had quit.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: Let me see where I'm at.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: Okay, um, I'm gonna change gears a little bit here.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: Uh, but during that time, um my kids were going to care parable and learning all about Christ and all these.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: I mean, we had Bible verses that we had to do, we had all these different stories that we were reading and doing.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: And I had never been raised reading the Bible.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: I knew the gospels because when we went to Mass, that was the only thing they preached the Matt the Gospels, and the rest of the Mass was done in Latin when I was younger.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: So that was the only stories I ever heard was the gospels.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: Um, and then the rest of the time, it was, you know, you had you knew when to kneel, you knew when to stand, you knew all the different prayers that you had, but I didn't really feel like I had a relationship with Christ.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: And so I decided that I was wanting to want to do a Bible study, and at that time they were just starting up BSF.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: And so I went to that one, and it was probably not the first one that I should have gone to because it was a very intense Bible study.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: I should have started out a lot lower, but I learned, and my first study was Matthew, and I still remember a lot of the questions were what Old Testament prophecy was fulfilled in that whatever passage they were talking about.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: And I had no idea because I had never studied the Old Testament.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: So I had gone through eight years of BSF, and the last year was a repeat of Matthew.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: And at that time I was actually able to answer those questions after studying for those other seven years.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: And what was totally amazing to me is after two and a half years, they'd asked me to be a leader.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: And I thought, oh, you've got to be kidding.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: Me a leader.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: I said, you know, I said, I'm just learning this stuff.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: But it was probably one of the smartest things that I had done.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: I'd really prayed about and prayed about it and asked the Lord if that was what he wanted me to do.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: Um and I had gotten, I thought was the question or the answer that he did want me to complete that.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: And I think it helped really helped me because I had leaders meeting on Tuesday.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: And you had to have your lesson done, because if you didn't do your lesson, you didn't lead your class.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: So I had to get up and do my lesson every day.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: And so I had gotten all the knowledge from all the leaders that were in there on that Tuesday, and then we led the class on Wednesday.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: And then after I completed that, then I started taking classes here with Patty Deloberto and others that lead the different Bible studies here.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: Um, and so I was really growing, learning and growing in the Lord during that time.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: And then I'd also had been asked to join the women's council, and I was the special events coordinator.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: And if you wouldn't know me when I was in high school, you would never think that I would get up in front of a room full of people and talk.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: But being after going through BSF and being in women's council, especially in special events, because I never knew when I was going to get on the stage, uh, when something was gonna happen.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: And so I had to learn to be able to get up and talk in front of people.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: And I'm still not very comfortable with it, but I know it's only through the grace of God that I can get up here and do it.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: So that's why I'm up here doing this, and it's through it's only through Him that I'm able to do this.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: Um, and then in September of 2003, um this goes back to some of the trials that I was having during my life.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: Um I was having issues with my kids at that time.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: They moved out of the house when they were 18 when they graduated, um, and they started doing the same thing I did when I was that age, partying, um, and you know, doing stuff that they shouldn't be doing.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: Um and I was very concerned about them.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: And then my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, and during that time my mom was having very high anxiety.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: Um, and I woke up and I'd fell to the ground and on my knees, and I was begging God, I said, I can't do this anymore.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: I can't do it.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: And then I went to work that morning, and we had just converted our uh accounting program over to a new computer system, and we had glitches in it, and one of them was that when statements came out that it all if you had two accounts that went into one, and my boss did not like that I had not been able to correct that issue, and it wasn't an issue that I could correct, it was a programming issue, and if anybody knows accounting, you know that it had there's an audit trail, and you cannot correct an audit trail.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's why they have it, is because you do an audit, and so I was fired that day, and I could not believe it.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: I mean, I I just thought, well, Lord, I guess I can handle something else.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: But during that time, I looked back and I reflected on what the Lord was teaching me during that time, um, and I had to rely on him because I still I had my own accounting business at that time too, and I was doing uh I had several small businesses that I did bookkeeping for, and so I was able to keep up with that.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: But with my mom and my dad, with dad having his Alzheimer's and having to deal with him, and my mom having high anxiety, and she had to have um surgeries, so I had to deal with them during that time, and then also deal with the issues that was going on with my kids.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: So the Lord had got me through all of that.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: Um, and like I said, I don't know how I did it.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: I just every day was a different day, and I just relied on him to do it during that time.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: And then in 1994, Larry's dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, um, and that was devastating to us all.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: Um and Larry was getting ready to go to San Antonio to be with his dad while he had his surgery.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: Um, and Mike and Linda had called up.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: Larry's sister and husband had called up, and they had told us about this house that was out in Barryton.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: And they said, we'd really like for you guys to go out and look at it with us because we'd like to buy the house and the front part of the property if you guys want to buy the back part.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: And so I kind of thought, oh well, we'll see if Larry's interested.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: Because we had been looking not east, was that was one of the places we never looked was out east.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: But we went there after church one day, and as we pulled down the driveway, if you guys have been to our house, you know that there's a huge pond in the backyard.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: And Larry was driving down, he goes, This has possibilities.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: And so uh we had talked about it with them and said that yeah, we would probably think about you know doing that.
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: Well, they called the next day and said, you know, we looked at the house and we've just decided that it's gonna take too much to remodel it.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: So we're not going to buy it.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: So Larry had said, he goes, Well do you care if we pursue it?
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: And they said, No, you know, if you guys want to pursue the whole thing, then you know, go for it.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: So we went back out and looked at it.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: And I still remember Amy telling me, that was my niece, she goes, Oh Patty, that house stunks so bad.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: It's in such horrible shape.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: She goes, I don't know if you guys can fix it.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: But if anybody knows Larry, they know he can fix anything.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: And so he we went out and looked at the house, and then he went home and he started drawing plans about what he could do with it.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: Um, and that he was trying to figure out how we could sell our house and buy that house, how we could afford it.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: So he stayed home that night when the boys had a basketball game, and I went and took the kids.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: Only I forgot the kids' snacks and their drinks for that night.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: So I called Larry and I asked if he would come back if he would bring him to the basketball game.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: And as he did, Marty Eddy, who was a realtor whose son played on the team, was walking in at the same time that he did.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: And he goes, Well, how much are the interest rates right now?
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: And she had said, she goes, Why are you selling your house?
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: And he goes, Well, we're thinking about it, but we'll probably have to sell it by owner because this is what we have to get out of it.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: And she said, I have a buyer.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: And so, and Larry had prayed about it because he's leaving the next day to go to San Antonio to be with his dad and his family for his dad's cancer treatment.
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: And so we'd prayed about it, and it's just like, Lord, either slam the door shut or open it wide open, because I said, We don't have time to deal with this right now.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: And so they came and looked at the house the very next day.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: Larry's in Texas, and I'm at home with two boys and his sister's two kids, and I'm trying to clean the house, get it ready for them to come see the house.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: But they came, they bought the house, paid cash and the asking price for it.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: So, because we had made an offer on the other house, but we had two days to come up with the funding to be able to pay for it.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: So we knew that that was where the Lord wanted us.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: And so we ended up moving out to Berryton.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: And when we bought that house, because the Lord had given it to us, we dedicated our property to the Lord.
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: And we do so many different things out at our house, and hopefully it glorifies the Lord.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: We do the baptisms, we've had youth group out there.
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: Uh, when the kids were in Youth for Christ, they we had almost all of them at our house, and lots of parents said, Why do you want to have all these kids at your house?
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: And I said, I know where my kids are at, and I know what they're doing.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: So we were always very open with having people come to our house.
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: Um, and so that's when we moved out to Beryton, um, and then our kids started going to Shawnee Heights.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: Um, and because they went to Shawnee or had moved to Shawnee Heights, I had lost my job at at uh uh Care Paraville.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: And so I had to look for another job.
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: And so I had gotten, I had done several jobs on the side with my accounting and several other jobs during the year.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: But um one of the churches that I worked at in Lawrence, um, I ended up having to leave that church uh because the staff of the staffing that was there, they had to let go the uh the pastor, but I lost my insurance benefits.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: And I was able to go on Cobra for a year.
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: And if anybody knows Larry, you know that he's had multiple surgeries, and so we had to have health insurance.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: And so one of the things that I talk about, I was listening to uh Teresa do the announcements this week, and she talked about Discovery, Connect, and Serve.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: And I thought, um, how how am I doing this?
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: Am I doing all of these things?
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: Um, and one of the things that I really thought about was the connection with people.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: We were in a Sunday school class and then in Bible studies, and that's how we were connecting with people in the church, and it was how I got a couple of my jobs was through people at church.
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: But we were doing our supper six group that night over at Sharon Meisner's house, and she'd asked me, she goes, Are you still looking for a job?
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: And I told her that I was, and she goes, I have the perfect job for you.
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: And and I kind of wondered what she meant by that.
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: And after I got the job, I knew, because he was very hyper, he was ADHD, just like my husband, and my two kids.
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: And I thought, that's how come she knew I could handle him?
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: Because she goes, if you can handle Larry, you can handle Rob.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: And so it was the strangest interview I've ever been on in my life.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: I went in, I was working at a chiropractor's office that day, or that during that time, and I was in Scrubs.
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: So I walk into the Capitol in Scrubs for my interview, because I only had an hour for lunch, and I handed him my resume, and he goes, I don't need to see that.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: And I said, I thought that okay, I guess I'm not getting the interview.
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: And he goes, You came highly recommended by Sharon, Sharon Meisner and Kim Borchers.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: And they said, if they they think you can do the job, then you can do the job.
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: And he goes, I'm not sure what the job is.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: He goes, I know you're gonna do the secretarial stuff.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: Answer the phone and do that, and I'll get you the most pay I can do.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: But and he was telling me what the benefits were, but I thought it has benefits.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: And this was in January, and I was gonna start the first of February, and our insurance ran out the end of January.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: So I was covered in sure for insurance in February.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: So that was a big answer to prayer because then Lori was able to continue with having all of his different surgeries.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: And so I started that job, and it was probably one of the best jobs that I ever had.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: Everybody that I worked with was Christians, and I needed that during that time because that was a time when my story starts with Blake.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: Now you need to get your cleanics out.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: During uh it was the first year of Blake's uh life that um he had burnt his hands and when he was right before he turned one and had to have uh what do you call those mitten type things on his hands?
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: And but he was having issues after that.
- 23:23SPEAKER_00: Um it was at Christmas time, and he kept having high fevers, and Jacqueline was just really concerned about him, and I'm gonna let her talk about her that part of the story.
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: But we had taken him in, we had family pictures taken on the 26th, and he was not feeling good that day, and she had taken him back home that evening, and we had all gone over to Sharon's for dinner, and we hadn't even been over there a half hour, and she called and she said, I'm taking him to the ER.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: Can you meet me there?
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: So Larry and I drove over to the ER and he took the kids and I went into the hospital with her, um, and they were there all night.
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: And her mom ended up coming over, and um I went back home and we had the kids that night, and then a couple of days later I had gone back to work.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: And I remember my son calling me, and he was crying so hard, and I could not understand him.
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: And he goes, Mom, Blake has cancer, and I collapsed on the floor.
- 24:36SPEAKER_00: I couldn't believe it.
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: And my office was right outside my boss's, and it was it was glass windows, and the chief of staff was in there with the secretary, and he saw me, he saw me just fall to the floor.
- 24:52SPEAKER_00: And he came in and he asked, he goes, Are you okay?
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: He thought it was my father that something had happened.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: And I said, No, it's my one-year-old grandson.
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: I said, he's just been diagnosed with cancer, and I cannot even tell you how I got to the hospital that day.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: I have no idea.
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: Um, and again, I'm gonna let Jacqueline tell you more about that.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: Um, but one of the stories I wanted to tell was he'd been at Stormontville, and then he'd moved to um Children's Mercy in Kansas City.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: And then once we knew that they couldn't do any more for him, we they were going to do a trial in Cincinnati.
- 25:43SPEAKER_00: And I had her three kids at my house that night, and we sat and FaceTimed with them as Jacqueline and Blake got on the the airplane uh to fly to Cincinnati.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: Um, and Chris was there with them, and uh and the kids, Kindles, were all laying in the bed talking to her, and she looks at me and she goes, Grandma, is Blakey gonna die?
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: And I said, I don't know, honey.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: I said, It's gonna take a miracle.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: And she goes, Well, what's a miracle?
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: And Mason, who was I think five or six at the time, looks at her and he goes, Kendall, do you remember how grandma told us a story about the burning bush and how it never burned up?
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: He goes, That's a miracle.
- 26:36SPEAKER_00: And she she looks like this and she goes, but I don't understand.
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: I mean, she just couldn't still was not comprehending what it was, and he said, That's the thing about miracles, you can't explain it.
- 26:49SPEAKER_00: And I thought, out of the mouth of babes.
- 26:52SPEAKER_00: I mean, I just I couldn't believe that that's how he explained a miracle.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: Um, but that's how we got through that, and I'll never forget after he passed away that next day, Chris had come to the house or had called me and he said, Mom, can you help plan the funeral?
- 27:15SPEAKER_00: He goes, We can't do it.
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: So I had gone with him and we planned the funeral, and I remember when we were talking about it, because Jacqueline had a very large audience with her Facebook, and we knew that there was gonna be a lot of people that were gonna be coming to the funeral, and they said, Do we need to have it at a different venue?
- 27:38SPEAKER_00: And Chris was adamant that it was going to be at the church.
- 27:42SPEAKER_00: He said, This may be the only time that some people enter a church and hear the gospel message.
- 27:49SPEAKER_00: And I'll tell you what, I was so proud of Chris and Jacqueline, of the testimony that they gave that day of Blake and what they went through, and then giving the gospel message.
- 28:00SPEAKER_00: You don't know how many people it reached.
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: I mean, they Jacqueline had gotten letters and emails and text talking about how they had left the church and had come back.
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: I mean, it was such a great witness for what she had done through her Facebook page and through that funeral.
- 28:23SPEAKER_00: So I was just so thankful for that.
- 28:26SPEAKER_00: Um and then moving on, because I'm just about out of time here.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: Um this last summer was very, very hard for me.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: The first part of June, my husband walks into the bedroom and I was sound asleep.
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: It was about 11 o'clock, and he wakes me up and he goes, Patty, something's not right.
- 28:48SPEAKER_00: And he had just given blood that day double reds, which is a two-hour process.
- 28:54SPEAKER_00: Um, and he gets in the hot tub every night, and he'd come in from the hot tub, and he was sweaty.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: I mean, he was sweating profusely at that time and white as a sheet.
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: And he said, he goes, something's not right.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: And he'd gone into the bathroom, he thought he was gonna get sick.
- 29:12SPEAKER_00: Um he didn't, but then he came and sat in his recliner and he goes, I'm having chest.
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: It's going down my my chest and onto my arm.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: And I said, Is that the arm they gave blood in?
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: And he said, Yes, but that's not that, it's not that type of pain.
- 29:29SPEAKER_00: And so I said, I'm calling 911.
- 29:32SPEAKER_00: And so I got a hold of the operator, and she said, I think he's having a heart attack.
- 29:39SPEAKER_00: And I couldn't believe it.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: I mean, Larry is one of the most active people I ever know I've ever known.
- 29:45SPEAKER_00: Um and the EMTs came from the fire department and they had him hooked up, and within two or three minutes they said he's having a heart attack.
- 29:55SPEAKER_00: And the ambulance came and within five minutes they had him loaded up and in the ambulance and heading to the hospital.
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: Um, and it was about midnight, shortly after midnight when we got there, and he was in surgery by one o'clock.
- 30:12SPEAKER_00: I mean, it was just amazing to me how quick it was.
- 30:15SPEAKER_00: And there was not one person in the emergency room waiting to be seen.
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: That is a miracle.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: Um, I mean, and he was, I mean, within two hours of when he woke me up, he was in surgery.
- 30:29SPEAKER_00: And my son Kurt was leaving at 2:30 that morning to head to the British Virgin Isles for his 20-year anniversary with his wife.
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: And I was gonna have his kids for 10 days.
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: And I thought, oh my gosh, what am I gonna do?
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: I thought, and I didn't know if he was gonna make it or not.
- 30:47SPEAKER_00: And I'm in the waiting room while he's in surgery, and I'm just shaking like crazy.
- 30:55SPEAKER_00: And Chris had come down.
- 30:56SPEAKER_00: I did not call Kurt yet because I did not want him to quit getting ready to go on his vacation.
- 31:01SPEAKER_00: And Chris came down and sat with me and he kept saying, Are you okay, mom?
- 31:05SPEAKER_00: Are you okay?
- 31:06SPEAKER_00: And I said, No, I don't know if Larry's coming out of that room alive or not.
- 31:14SPEAKER_00: I mean, I was just devastated.
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: I could not lose him.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: But a little bit after two o'clock, he walks out and he said, he goes, We're all done.
- 31:27SPEAKER_00: He said he had a hundred percent blockage, and they did three stints.
- 31:32SPEAKER_00: And he goes, his other side is he's gonna need stints in that.
- 31:37SPEAKER_00: He said, but we're gonna wait and do that in a couple of weeks.
- 31:41SPEAKER_00: He said, but you're very lucky.
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: He said he has absolutely no heart damage.
- 31:47SPEAKER_00: He said, You did the right thing, you called, you got him in immediately, and so he is he has no heart damage, and he's gone through rehab, and he said he's probably in the best shape ever.
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: So I have my husband back.
- 32:02SPEAKER_00: So I'm just so thankful for that.
- 32:05SPEAKER_00: Um, and I'm just gonna uh share a couple of verses with you that has gotten gotten me through all of this.
- 32:13SPEAKER_00: Um and one is because of loving uh the because we have a loving redeemer has reconciled us to his father, we can freely pray to God.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: And what a privilege it has it is to have access to God's throne room and that we can talk to him in prayer.
- 32:41SPEAKER_00: And so, I mean, I have done that so much in my life.
- 32:45SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's just like he's right next to me, and I'm talking to him.
- 32:49SPEAKER_00: And it's it's minute by minute, day by day.
- 32:53SPEAKER_00: Anytime I have an issue, I can talk directly with him.
- 32:58SPEAKER_00: Um, and I'm just so thankful for that.
- 33:02SPEAKER_00: And then when we talk about community, um, this is another verse that I really like.
- 33:08SPEAKER_00: And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together as some in the are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the day approaching.
- 33:24SPEAKER_00: Um so I'm just gonna end with that and um I'll have bring Connie back up.
