- 0:25Cassandra: Way in your way podcast.
- 0:27Cassandra: And for those new listeners out there, my name is Cassandra Crawley Mayo, and I am your host.
- 0:33Cassandra: And I always share with individuals what an interesting name of the podcast.
- 0:39Cassandra: Now think about it for a minute.
- 0:40Cassandra: Is your way in your way?
- 0:44Cassandra: And actually, that's the title of my debut book.
- 0:48Cassandra: And I am certainly qualified to even talk about this because I've been in my way, it seems like all my life.
- 0:57Cassandra: And I'm still a work in progress.
- 0:59Cassandra: There's sometimes that I am in my way, but right now I'm kind of aware of it.
- 1:03Cassandra: Okay.
- 1:03Cassandra: So, anyway, initially I said this podcast was about empowering women.
- 1:10Cassandra: And you know what?
- 1:11Cassandra: It's actually more than that.
- 1:13Cassandra: It's actually a podcast about what I would call freedom.
- 1:18Cassandra: Freedom from those old thoughts, freedom from those regrets, freedom from my childhood, freedom from my relationships.
- 1:28Cassandra: It's just getting free.
- 1:30Cassandra: And that that's kind of is the what I would say the premises for my podcast.
- 1:35Cassandra: It's it helps you identify and overcome those internal barriers that's preventing you from living the life that you're ordained to live.
- 1:47Cassandra: Period.
- 1:48Cassandra: That's it.
- 1:49Cassandra: And you know what?
- 1:50Cassandra: And so many of us work hard, achieve a lot of success with so-called checking all the boxes.
- 1:58Cassandra: We've done this, and you know, we've done what they said back in the day.
- 2:02Cassandra: We went to school, we got married, all of that.
- 2:06Cassandra: We got the white picket fence, all of that kind of stuff.
- 2:09Cassandra: But we wonder why we keep repeating the same patterns, making the same choices and just settling for less than what we truly desire.
- 2:22Cassandra: So today's conversation may answer that question.
- 2:28Cassandra: And I'm going to introduce you to our guest today.
- 2:31Cassandra: I'm so excited about her, and you will find out in a few minutes.
- 2:36Cassandra: Good day, Jenalyn.
- 2:38Cassandra: How are you?
- 2:40JT: I'm very well and I'm very pleased to be here.
- 2:43JT: I'm really looking forward to this conversation.
- 2:45JT: Thank you for inviting me.
- 2:48Cassandra: You are very welcome.
- 2:49Cassandra: And for my listeners, I am going to call her JT, just for the record.
- 2:54Cassandra: Okay.
- 2:54Cassandra: Uh so when you're like, I thought her name was Janelyn, I'm like, Elaine, it is, but I'm gonna I'm gonna call her JT because I feel like I know her pretty good now.
- 3:03Cassandra: Now JT is an executive coach, a clinical hypnotherapist who believes that the greatest transformation doesn't begin with changing your circumstances, it begins with changing your subconscious belief, subconscious beliefs is possible.
- 3:28Cassandra: So, in other words, changing what your subconscious believes is possible.
- 3:34Cassandra: If you've ever felt stuck, even while appearing successful, this conversation again just might help you discover why.
- 3:44Cassandra: And more importantly, how do you move forward from all of that stuff?
- 3:49Cassandra: You know, and prior to me and JT having a conversation, I want to share a little bit about her bio so that you may understand what is qualifying her to even talk about what we're gonna talk about, and also that will help you perhaps move beyond all of those beliefs that you used to have and those patterns you've been sticking with for many years.
- 4:17Cassandra: She is an uncertified executive coach, clinical, hype, hype hypnotherapist, and former HR executive with more than 25 years of experience.
- 4:31Cassandra: She's leading organizational transformation at global companies, including DeLote and HSBC.
- 4:39Cassandra: She helps entrepreneurs and senior leaders break free from subconscious patterns and keep them stuck using her signature program, Peel Back, Rewire and Rise methodology.
- 4:54Cassandra: Now, so by combining her executive coaching, her rapid transformational therapy, and somatic practices, she empowers high achievers to stop settling and confidently step into the life that they were created to live.
- 5:11Cassandra: So, guys, you can see how many of what JT does really corresponds a lot with us being in our way.
- 5:22Cassandra: And also I I want to ask her this first of all.
- 5:29Cassandra: JT has been first of all, so I'm I'm we I'm gonna we're gonna date each other.
- 5:37Cassandra: She used to talk about encyclopedias.
- 5:40Cassandra: Now I don't know if you all even heard of encyclopedias, but I have, and I used to use those when I was preparing for classes and history and all of that.
- 5:49Cassandra: But look, check it out.
- 5:50Cassandra: She used to sell them.
- 5:51Cassandra: She also, I would say, she was a fixer.
- 5:57Cassandra: It sounded like to me, even though I didn't read that in her background, her she sounds like an OD person, which I call organizational developer.
- 6:06Cassandra: And that's what I did.
- 6:07Cassandra: I went got my master's in organizational development.
- 6:09Cassandra: And that all that means is she helps people, she fixed people, she helps people from a transition to a transformation.
- 6:18Cassandra: She's was on, she was in boardrooms, banks, and all of that.
- 6:23Cassandra: And as you heard me say, she worked 25 years in the corporate world and senior roles.
- 6:29Cassandra: So I want to know, JT, by you working, probably selling encyclopedias.
- 6:36Cassandra: How was that?
- 6:37Cassandra: How was that working for you in this 25 corporate situation?
- 6:42JT: Well, I'm in Cyclopedia.
- 6:44JT: I have a love story with encyclopedia, and I'm gonna get into it.
- 6:47JT: But before that, I just want to go back to something you said about fixing people.
- 6:53JT: So unfortunately, I am not, I was never a fixer.
- 6:57JT: I never had that mindset of fixing people because I don't believe people are broken to start with.
- 7:04JT: To start with, my belief is, and this is my belief, it's word, it's worse, is that we are where we are for good reasons, and that's the best place, you know.
- 7:14JT: That's our place.
- 7:15JT: This is where we are, and we're not broken.
- 7:18JT: We could continue to live our life the way we do, or we could choose other paths and other life and human experiences.
- 7:25JT: So I never it's kind of fixing mindset, which is very good when you're an HR executive, because I never had kind of people, you know, waiting at my door for me to fix them or fix their problems.
- 7:39JT: Okay, okay, all right.
- 7:41JT: Go back to encyclopedia.
- 7:45JT: I when I was a child, my way to bond and to connect with my father was through reading.
- 7:51JT: So my father was an avid reader, and and ever and I had a question, he would tell me, go to the encyclopedia, read it, and come and tell me.
- 8:00JT: So I was working my uh research skills, my memory skills, because I had to verbatim tell him what I read.
- 8:07JT: And then he would poke me again and say, Oh, I wonder if, and I would have to go again, look it up.
- 8:13JT: But they would go like this for hours with him.
- 8:15JT: So that was for me a way to bond.
- 8:18JT: That was a way to connect to my father.
- 8:21JT: So I guess when I when I was 18, 19, I traveled to Western Canada, and I was uh I left Quebec with a hundred dollars, hit Shankar Cross Canada, and eventually, eventually ran out of money.
- 8:38JT: Yeah.
- 8:39JT: I was uh working in restaurants and everything, and every eventually I hit Vancouver and there was an advertisement for a job, and I went there and I started to sell encyclopedia.
- 8:49JT: And at the time I I didn't speak English as much as I do now.
- 8:52JT: So this is how I've learned too.
- 8:54JT: But going to knock on doors, yes, just develop so much skill set.
- 9:00JT: Like you you learn confidence, you also learn to read people, like going into people's place, yeah, like it's so many years later.
- 9:10JT: I would meet somebody and I could just imagine how their house were inside.
- 9:15JT: I had that kind of I had that kind of um I had that kind of uh of uh insights at the time.
- 9:23JT: So so that was my my and I did very well actually paid my study, I won trips and awards.
- 9:30JT: So selling, you know, selling as a skill, it's something that will serve you all your life, whatever you do.
- 9:36JT: Selling ideas, you know, inferencing, selling ideas.
- 9:41JT: I would say to anyone, if you can develop that skill set early on, travel and you you'll be able to, you know, to make a living out of it no matter what happens.
- 9:52Cassandra: So okay, that's good.
- 9:54Cassandra: I I I remember working for someone, and he always said, Everybody's a salesperson.
- 9:59Cassandra: And I I used to like, I'm not in sales.
- 10:03Cassandra: He says, Yes, you are.
- 10:04Cassandra: And it took me a little while to get it, but he's right.
- 10:07Cassandra: I mean, it's even people that have children, it shouldn't even be selling, but you have to get them to see your point of view, and just it it entails a whole lot of stuff.
- 10:17Cassandra: I want to go back a bit, and I appreciate you.
- 10:21Cassandra: I stand corrected when I say fix, and you you're certainly correct.
- 10:26Cassandra: And what I should have said, and I'm going to say now that you led people from trying from a transition to a transformation, and and you're right, you can't fix anybody, but you can lead them, and it's up to them to it's like I could take the horse to the water, but I can't make them drink it.
- 11:11Cassandra: So thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 11:14Cassandra: Okay, so back to my or my question about you working in corporate for 25 years.
- 11:21Cassandra: How was that working for corporate?
- 11:23Cassandra: How how how was that experience for you?
- 11:26JT: I've had, I think, the most amazing career and experience for I think three good reasons.
- 11:32JT: The first one was I I got mentors and people I work for who were top of the class.
- 11:41JT: Like my first HR bus VP, I didn't have yet my paper.
- 11:48JT: I was still in school.
- 11:49JT: She had me in an interview, and she said, You don't have the paper yet, you don't have the experience, but uh you have all the right answer.
- 11:56JT: I know you can do that.
- 11:57JT: And she gave me the job, right?
- 11:59JT: She gave me the job.
- 12:00JT: She was at the end of her career.
- 12:02JT: I spent five years with her, and it's like if I would have spent 20 years, like she was giving me, you know, so much confidence, and she was trusting me and she was entrusting me and she was correcting me.
- 12:15JT: I'll always remember.
- 12:16JT: I had a meeting with a VP and she said, How it goes.
- 12:20JT: I said, Oh, I I asked him to come, and then uh she said, You go to the VP.
- 12:25JT: Your rank is lower than him, you go to him.
- 12:28JT: You don't ask him to continue.
- 12:31JT: She was always like she was she was really as teaching me a lot of things, you know, a lot of political skills, uh technical skills, relationship skills.
- 12:43JT: So I spent five years with her.
- 12:44JT: So after that, again, I I did a merger, and so two law firms were merging, one from Toronto, one from Montreal.
- 12:55JT: And the person who had me in the interview said, Oh, you never done it, but I know you can do that.
- 13:00JT: Oh wow, another one.
- 13:03JT: Yeah, so again, I had that mandate of amalgamating the two law firms.
- 13:07JT: That was an amazing experience.
- 13:09JT: I loved it.
- 13:10JT: So I was always in between, and then after that, I got at banks and that at professional firms, and always in between that we're having a transformation, yes, and we're giving you you've never done it, but that's okay.
- 13:23JT: I'm sure you can do it.
- 13:24JT: So that's the first thing I would say that's been great for me in the corporate world.
- 13:29JT: It's really everybody got trusted that I could do it, even though I had never done it.
- 13:35JT: So that's the first thing.
- 13:37JT: Wow.
- 13:38JT: The second thing that's been fantastic for me in the corporate world was the connections.
- 13:44JT: I at the end of those 25 years, I had a network of people I really had developed amazing relationships with.
- 13:53JT: Real relationship, not people that you call, like, you know, five years after that you oddly ever spoke to and you ask for something.
- 14:03JT: No, people that you really went for coffee and shared information, people to who invited you to their wedding, people that you went for walks and had conversations, but I really had developed wide quality network.
- 14:19JT: So and that really helped me later to start my business, right?
- 14:24JT: I would say when I when when I did when there was a restructuring and I lost my job, the end, the number of people called me for coffee, see how I was doing, the number of people who pushed me to interview to their friends or companies they knew, or things like that.
- 14:43JT: So the network was the second thing in my corporate experience.
- 14:46JT: And the third thing is really a variety of men, a variety of things that I have done, exposure, exposure to best in class in so many things, working with so many people.
- 15:04JT: Like so, my corporate experience was really, I would say a very complete and fulfilling experience.
- 15:12Cassandra: Well, did you, JT, did you say your third was working with men?
- 15:16Cassandra: I didn't understand.
- 15:17JT: No, working with working with working with very smart people, like smart and having those very I would say very amazing mandate.
- 15:28JT: Like those projects that they throw you, okay, we're doing a global transformation and we're changing this and that, and we're having this new, you know, it's really funny.
- 15:41JT: We were we had no at the end where I where I was the no office way before COVID.
- 15:47JT: Way before COVID, we were working from home.
- 15:50JT: So bank.
- 15:51JT: Well, I had so I I've already considered I've been very fortunate.
- 15:58Cassandra: I had an amazing career.
- 16:00Cassandra: Wow.
- 16:01Cassandra: You said you said some critical things that I like my listeners to to just think about, particularly where they are now and where they had been prior.
- 16:14Cassandra: You know, first of all, you had a mentor and not just one.
- 16:19Cassandra: It sounds like you had many, and that is critical in any situation that you are in.
- 16:24Cassandra: Corporate, just a regular job.
- 16:26Cassandra: What I wouldn't say regular job, government job, whatever.
- 16:30Cassandra: It's just good to have allies, sponsors, and then relationships.
- 16:36Cassandra: I've always said critical.
- 16:37Cassandra: They should be deep and they should be wide.
- 16:40Cassandra: And you and I think that encyclopedia thing and your dad, I think was a major influence because you you had the confidence because you got the knowledge.
- 16:50Cassandra: And and then particularly when people say, I know you can do this.
- 16:54Cassandra: You don't have the paperwork, but I know.
- 16:57Cassandra: I'm like, wow.
- 16:58Cassandra: And it's not many of my listeners that probably have experienced what you've experienced.
- 17:03Cassandra: And also you surrounded yourself.
- 17:06Cassandra: And I always say for myself, I have what I call board of directors, personal board of directors, people that are in my circle, you know, for different things, for finance attorneys, my spiritual partners, my best friends, all of them are in my circle.
- 17:25Cassandra: And it's important to have the right people in your circle because they can make you or they can break you.
- 17:32Cassandra: So those are three things that I like my listeners to hone in on, how critical that is.
- 17:38Cassandra: I've always said that.
- 17:39Cassandra: And then as a result of that, as we move further, based on the relationships you've had, I'm certain it's helped your business that you currently have.
- 17:48Cassandra: But this my question to you you said something about when you were let go, in other words, it was like the rug got pulled from under you.
- 17:58Cassandra: You've been working or what you call it of the person you were performing.
- 18:03Cassandra: It wasn't you, you were performing, you said, for about for 25 years.
- 18:09Cassandra: Did you feel while you were performing, even though you had some good things happen to you in corporate America, did you feel there was something else for you to do when that rug got pulled from under you?
- 18:23Cassandra: I know you said I didn't really know who I was.
- 18:25Cassandra: I mean, first of all, my identity kind of fluctuated a little bit, but I'm curious, was it something that you knew in your heart of hearts that you should be doing?
- 18:37JT: Well, the story goes that with the years, the rampant I had an addiction with alcohol, and that uh was a rampant.
- 18:46JT: I was very tired.
- 18:48JT: I think I was, although it was a great career, I was very tired.
- 18:53JT: I think that alcohol part of it, emotional disruption.
- 18:58JT: And I when the news came, I was just coming back from an ashram in the Bahamas where I did yoga and meditation for a week, and I had, you know, didn't drink for a week, although first time off the off the ashram, I hit the first bar for sure.
- 19:17JT: But I mean, I was I had I did experience a week without alcohol and and and so I came back, I was very grounded, and but I was profoundly tired and uh probably on the verge of an undiagnosed burnout, but it was a big response.
- 19:37JT: I knew it was coming.
- 19:38JT: So when I had the meeting, my bus flew in from Toronto, it was done in the most respectful way, you know, with smiles.
- 19:46JT: Okay, that's it, right?
- 19:49JT: But then suddenly what happened to me is, and what happened to many people in those corporate jobs is that your calendar is filled like almost a year in advance.
- 19:59JT: You know, you're gonna go to that conference, you know, you're gonna have that meeting, you have your recurrent meeting, you have projects.
- 20:05JT: That's correct.
- 20:07JT: Suddenly, two things left.
- 20:09JT: My identity coat.
- 20:12JT: So I was my job, I was talking about my job all the time.
- 20:17JT: I was I was wearing the colour of my employer, I was I was I was it.
- 20:24JT: I was I was breeding and living it and believing that this was the you know the best thing in the world, and it was a great and then my calendar emptied totally.
- 20:35JT: So I woke up one day and that feeling of not knowing what is on the agenda tomorrow, the day after, the the other day was the scariest thing ever.
- 20:49JT: No identity, no agenda, and alcohol problem.
- 20:55JT: So, what do you think I did?
- 20:56JT: I drank more.
- 20:59Cassandra: Absolutely.
- 21:02JT: This begin I would say that the the the last push, the last chapter of my drinking, you know, and it's been nine years sober now, but that's really when that's really when I did took my last hit.
- 21:18JT: I started drinking more and more and earlier and earlier until you know it was no longer possible.
- 21:26Cassandra: Okay.
- 21:26Cassandra: What was it that made you stop?
- 21:30Cassandra: I mean, well, first of all, this is what I want to say.
- 21:34Cassandra: Yes, based on you getting laid off or downsized or whatever, there are many of us that have gone through that, and many of us have felt like you felt like, okay, now what am I gonna do tomorrow?
- 21:47Cassandra: You know, so I I'm sorry that happened to you, but it was a reason why it happened to you.
- 21:53Cassandra: It's just like it's gonna be a reason for my listeners when they hear your story.
- 21:57JT: Yeah, so it's very funny because because I had that big network, three days later I was interviewing for a VP role in a bank, and I always remember because it was raining outside, and I went to the interview and I drew a blank.
- 22:11JT: I could not, I was an HR executive.
- 22:13JT: I had I led exec, you know, talent acquisition team.
- 22:16JT: I uh ACED interview.
- 22:18JT: Yes.
- 22:22JT: But then I drew a blank, I couldn't say there was not an intelligent word that came out out of me.
- 22:29JT: Even I was saying that the most you know sabotaging answer you can ever imagine.
- 22:34JT: Yes.
- 22:35JT: I drew a blank, I got off the interview.
- 22:38JT: I didn't need them to tell me that I didn't need them to tell me that I was not retained, I knew it, and I was walking home.
- 22:46JT: And it became so clear this is not another executive job that you need, it's a life transformation.
- 22:53JT: And it became like a moment of clarity where I I didn't even think about fighting with the idea because it was so clear that I had done my time in HR.
- 23:07JT: I was fed up with it, but I just could not say it because if I would have admitted, I would have had to do something about it.
- 23:15JT: So I kept it well, you know, well hidden behind me, behind under the rug, but I I was ready for something else.
- 23:25JT: So life gave me the opportunity.
- 23:28Cassandra: Okay.
- 23:28Cassandra: All right.
- 23:29Cassandra: So okay, now you're doing something totally different.
- 23:34Cassandra: And I I'd like my audience to hear that, my listeners, I would say, but I would like for you to tell me and my audience more about the space between what people consciously want and what their deeper programming keeps telling them that they want.
- 23:56Cassandra: Because I'm thinking that this may be part of why you are doing what you're doing now.
- 24:05JT: Yeah.
- 24:05JT: So if I understand well your question, you want me to say what is that we're we're thinking we want something, but you know how to uncover what we really know.
- 24:18JT: Yeah.
- 24:18JT: Yeah.
- 24:19JT: It is really about the subconscious, unconscious belief and story we tell ourselves.
- 24:25JT: I know we had a few podcasts around the story we tell ourselves.
- 24:29JT: And so sometimes for many good reasons, like for me, it was for security, because I wanted to have a career that offered security.
- 24:44JT: So I had the belief, many people were telling me you have you should have your business, you're you're already in a certified coach, you should have your coaching practice, etc.
- 24:52JT: You're so good, blah, blah, blah.
- 24:54JT: And I would always say, No, no, no, I prefer my security.
- 24:56JT: And so the thoughts that were feeding that was I can't make it on my own.
- 25:03JT: I need to, I need a bigger person or a bigger enterprise behind me.
- 25:09JT: I'm I'm not, I'm not, uh, I'm not enough, whatever.
- 25:13JT: So all those stories that I was telling myself subconsciously that were keeping me there.
- 25:19Cassandra: JT, wait one second.
- 25:21Cassandra: When you say security, tell us about that.
- 25:24Cassandra: What do you mean security?
- 25:25Cassandra: You wanted a nine to, I mean, uh, you didn't have a nine to five job, but you wanted a sure thing you want to get a check?
- 25:32JT: Yeah, so my father was in sales, right?
- 25:35JT: And my father had done many different careers in his life, and sometimes we were struggling.
- 25:40JT: So sometimes, you know, and I hated it.
- 25:42JT: I hated his answers when I asked him for something like I don't know, it depends how much money I'm gonna make this month.
- 25:49JT: And and now we have a lot of money and we do a lot of things, and now we have less money and we do less things.
- 25:55JT: And I hated that.
- 25:56JT: I hated it with a passion, and I wanted something ready.
- 26:00JT: I wanted to know how much money was I was going to get every month or every week or every two weeks.
- 26:07JT: I wanted to have the benefits, and I wanted to know where I was.
- 26:10JT: Exactly.
- 26:11JT: Yes, I get it.
- 26:12JT: Okay.
- 26:13JT: All right.
- 26:14JT: You know, I can't make it on my own.
- 26:24JT: I'm not and and and despite all the people telling me and seeing things in me that I didn't see for myself, you know, I kept saying, you know, I prefer my security, you know, I prefer to be there.
- 26:37Cassandra: That's correct.
- 26:38Cassandra: Okay, okay.
- 26:39Cassandra: So, in other words, you were in your own way.
- 26:42Cassandra: I was.
- 26:43Cassandra: I also how did you break what how did you come about removing that?
- 26:54JT: So we transform two ways.
- 26:56JT: There's two ways to do that.
- 26:58JT: Either you go under hypnosis or other kind of modalities, and you rewire.
- 27:06JT: So you know that basically we feel what we believe, you know.
- 27:13JT: Uh neurosciences has proven that we feel what we believe.
- 27:16JT: So if you have a belief, this brings you an emotion.
- 27:20JT: This emotion brings you into action, and those actions become your life.
- 27:24JT: So if you change your beliefs, you change your emotion, you change your actions, you change your life.
- 27:29JT: So that's one way of transferring.
- 27:31Cassandra: Give us an example of a belief and an action.
- 27:34Cassandra: Yeah, name something specific.
- 27:36JT: Yeah, I'm gonna take something very simple.
- 27:38JT: The fear of public speaking.
- 27:40JT: I have many clients that have the fear of public speaking.
- 27:42JT: They don't apply to a certain role, they don't take certain opportunities because they're gonna have to speak in public.
- 27:47JT: So I have a lot of clients doing that.
- 27:49JT: So let's say I have the belief that I'm gonna be ridiculed, people are gonna laugh at me.
- 27:53JT: I'm not interesting.
- 27:54JT: So I'm gonna say, All right, I'm not interesting, people are not interested in what I'm saying, and that's all subconscious.
- 28:01JT: Then I'm gonna start to be nervous, I'm gonna be my body's gonna be like this, I'm gonna be wet, I'm not gonna sweat, I'm not gonna sleep before, and then my presentation is gonna, you know, my voice is gonna be shaky, my posture is okay.
- 28:17Cassandra: All right.
- 28:18JT: If I change that belief by people love to hear what I have to say, I have so much to share, I'm so interested, I'm indifferent to them when they look at their phone or when they go to the bathroom, you know, when I speak, and then that brings me into a different posture, that brings me into a different emotion.
- 28:36JT: I'm proud, I'm confident, and when I go on the stage, that is reflected in my voice and my posture and everything.
- 28:44JT: So that's one way to change is to change the belief.
- 28:49JT: The other way to transform that we always neglect is to go into action.
- 28:55JT: It's like jump in the pool, right?
- 28:57JT: Okay, that's right.
- 28:59JT: The action is gonna create a new belief, which is gonna create a new action.
- 29:06JT: And if you do the two at the same time, you reprogram yourself and you go into action, you create a synergy, you create something that is so strong that one re-infairs the other.
- 29:22Cassandra: Okay.
- 29:23Cassandra: Now I I hear that, and a lot of people hear that, and you know, some people call it positive thinking.
- 29:31Cassandra: I I don't know, like change your thoughts, but when you've been thinking this way for so long, and what I mean, you you you you you know, you you just like I shared this example with you when I was doing first doing a podcast.
- 29:44Cassandra: I was like, oh my gosh, what am I gonna say?
- 29:47Cassandra: Oh no, no, who wants to hear me?
- 29:50Cassandra: Who am I?
- 29:50Cassandra: I'm not anybody famous, and I just went on and on and on, and then I took action.
- 29:56Cassandra: I did it, I did it afraid.
- 29:57Cassandra: I did it afraid, but but there are individuals that just won't do it.
- 30:04Cassandra: And what do you have that gets them to do it?
- 30:09Cassandra: Number one, they have to want it, right?
- 30:13JT: Yeah, okay, and what else?
- 30:15JT: So motivation is never enough or rarely enough, or not always enough.
- 30:20JT: Okay, but you went into actions, you started to change, you started to you started to gain confidence and you start to change your feeling about it, and that you know, created a whole thing.
- 30:30JT: That's why I work with hypnosis, that's why I have chosen the modality of hypnosis.
- 30:35JT: Why?
- 30:36JT: Because when you are under hypnosis, you are in that state where you're focused on one thing, your hypervigilance is down, and you're no longer hearing that you're not good enough, you're not this, who are you, blah blah blah, blah blah blah.
- 30:53JT: And you say it's easier for you to rewire yourself to change that dialogue, that inner dialogue, to rewire it.
- 31:02JT: And how we rewire it, we practice.
- 31:05JT: So I'm gonna give you again the example of public speaking.
- 31:08JT: Let's say I have this person, and this person finds out that the belief that she has is I'm gonna be ridiculed because when she she discovered that when she was in school, she did she spoke in front of the class, everybody started laughing at her, and since then she's afraid of being ridical.
- 31:22JT: So, first we say, Are you still six years old?
- 31:25JT: Are you still in that class?
- 31:27JT: You're no longer in that class, you're no longer six years old.
- 31:29JT: So we really interrupt the dialogue so the person sees that she no longer lives when she was six or seven or eight years old.
- 31:36JT: That's the first thing.
- 31:37JT: Okay, second thing is we rehearse, we rehearse under hypnosis, being on a stage, seeing the people looking at you, having the accolades after and everything.
- 31:49JT: So for the brain, the subconscious brain, we create a new experience.
- 31:53JT: It has already happened for the subconscious mind.
- 31:57JT: So when you go on the stage, it's no longer the old movie because we've interrupted the old movie and replaced it with the new movie.
- 32:06JT: The new movie who play in your head is people love to listen to me.
- 32:10JT: People show, you know, people tell me I'm fantastic.
- 32:13JT: They learn from what I have to say.
- 32:15JT: This is what I want to share with them because we have rehearsed it many times under hypnosis and created that new wire, that new neuropath.
- 32:26Cassandra: I have always been fascinated by hypnosis.
- 32:29Cassandra: I've never I think I tried it one time and it didn't work.
- 32:34Cassandra: And what what what made you go into being doing hypnosis?
- 32:46JT: Yeah, that's again a life, life, life, life threw it at me.
- 32:51JT: So I never thought I would be a hypnotherapist, but I was already an ICF certified coach.
- 32:55Cassandra: Uh-huh.
- 32:56Cassandra: And ICF means what?
- 32:58JT: International Coaching Federation.
- 33:00JT: Okay.
- 33:00JT: Which is the highest you know, organization that certified coach uh gives you uh so one day I took, you know how when you're in transformation, I always say to people and anytime, anyway, be curious, go out there, try things, right?
- 33:15JT: And your subconscious mind is gonna bring you to places, do things that are new.
- 33:19JT: So I went to this PN NLP classes for one weekend, and there was a demonstration of hypnosis.
- 33:26JT: And I always raised my hand to be a guinea pig.
- 33:29JT: And I loved the I love the experience.
- 33:31JT: And I said, Okay, at the time I was sober and I had a team around me.
- 33:35JT: So I had, you know, a personal trainer, nutritionist, etc., who were helping me stay sober.
- 33:41JT: And I said, Oh, I'm gonna hire this guy and take him on my team.
- 33:44JT: So first session with him, I say, you know, I've been sober for like a month or two months, I don't remember.
- 33:49JT: And what can you do for me?
- 33:51JT: How can you support me in my sobriety?
- 33:53JT: So I did a session with this guy.
- 33:55JT: I get out of the session, and again, I see myself, I'm outside, it's sunny, and I'm like, this is what I'm gonna do for the rest of my life.
- 34:03JT: I want people to feel the way I am feeling right now.
- 34:07JT: I did I had what we call a spontaneous transformation, which happens, right?
- 34:12JT: We change three ways, and one of the ways we transform is spontaneously.
- 34:15JT: So I had that spontaneous transformation where I felt radically different.
- 34:20JT: I knew something that I didn't even know I had had left me, and I was different, and I knew it was forever, like I could feel it.
- 34:30JT: So I started searching for hypnotherapy classes, I found my recipe, I went to Los Angeles, got trained by her, came back, started my business, and that's seven years ago, and 1500 sessions later.
- 34:43Cassandra: So wow, wow.
- 34:45Cassandra: What about individuals that are skeptic about it?
- 34:50JT: Yeah, so there it's you know, I think the first thing comes with stage hypnosis.
- 34:56JT: So people are very influenced by stage hypnosis, where you go and it's a show, and you already know that you're gonna do stupid things if you go on the on the stage.
- 35:07JT: So people already and they know how to spot who is most influenzable and everything.
- 35:12JT: So that's the first thing.
- 35:14JT: I would say it's not stage hypnosis.
- 35:16JT: The second thing is you go under hypnosis every day naturally, so it's a natural state.
- 35:22JT: Kids up to the age of seven almost leave in that live in that alpha alpha mode when you watch a movie and you're totally lost in the movie, and then you're like, oh my god, bro, where's it right for that?
- 35:33JT: Last two hours, the time flew like that.
- 35:36JT: Time is suspense.
- 35:38Cassandra: That's hypno.
- 35:38Cassandra: That's that's an element of hypnosis because that's all you're focused on.
- 35:42JT: That's a natural state of hypnosis.
- 35:44JT: You know, when you when you focus, let's say you focus on preparing when you studied, when you did your master, you're out there studying, and then suddenly somebody somebody brings you coffee, and then you realize three hours later the coffee's cold.
- 35:58JT: You don't even know how it got there because you were so focused in your work.
- 36:02JT: That state of focus is really the state of hypnosis.
- 36:06JT: You go, you know what it's saying to journal just before you go to bed or just when you wake up in the morning first thing, it's because you are in that state of hypnosis, just before totally falling asleep, but before just being fully awake.
- 36:22JT: So that's the natural state.
- 36:25JT: Okay.
- 36:25JT: Some people, some people will not let other people hypnotize them, and that's okay.
- 36:31JT: I say, okay, just close your eyes.
- 36:33JT: We're gonna go under relaxation and we're gonna do the same tools, and they get fantastic results.
- 36:39JT: Other people they will say, Wow, the more I work with you, the further I go.
- 36:43JT: Oh my god, I was so far.
- 36:45JT: They remember everything.
- 36:46JT: If they have to go to the bathroom, they know.
- 36:48JT: They tell me, Lena, can we enter up?
- 36:50JT: I have to go to the bathroom, so they know they can feel their body, they know, but they just go further.
- 36:55JT: So it's also all about the relationship.
- 36:58JT: The relationship of trust that we build together allow people to let themselves go, right?
- 37:06JT: And there are people, yes, that will not, you know, maybe uh over those seven years, I have maybe four or five clients that you know did not go under and don't want to go under, and that's fine.
- 37:18JT: We don't we don't really have anyone, yeah.
- 37:23Cassandra: Well, you know, in the beginning, I talked about, you know, why I'm doing this podcast, and it's to help in individuals to identify what are some of those internal beliefs that's preventing them from living a life that they were created to live.
- 37:42Cassandra: How do you get to the root of the of what's holding someone back?
- 37:50Cassandra: Because a lot of my listeners are listening because they're stuck.
- 37:54Cassandra: So, how do you how would you let's let's say you you have one of my listeners is your client.
- 37:59Cassandra: How would you get to the root of that?
- 38:02JT: Very simple.
- 38:03JT: We ask the subconscious brain.
- 38:05JT: So we bring them under, which is about five minutes.
- 38:08JT: We do eye exercise, breathing exercise, visualization exercise, and then the person slowly goes down.
- 38:14JT: Let's say we're gonna ask their brilliant mind, tell me why I can't speak in public.
- 38:18JT: Tell me what is the key that I need to be able, and then the subconscious brain is brain is gonna bring you to those beliefs.
- 38:25JT: I'm gonna ask you questions and you're gonna see the beliefs, the subconscious, unconscious belief that you have, and we're gonna rewire, interrupt them, rewire them.
- 38:36JT: That's why I say uncover, rewire, rise because you uncover first really what are the things that you believe that are false about yourself, about life, and then we rewire for something that you want, you want, not me, not the society.
- 39:00JT: We find what you really want, not what Instagram wants, what you want, right?
- 39:06JT: And then you rise, and then you're rising, you can contribute, you can impact others, you can, you know, so that's the that's the sequence.
- 39:14Cassandra: So it's the same thing as someone in a toxic relationship, and they just can't get through it.
- 39:22Cassandra: It's kind of like your alcohol, the addiction.
- 39:25Cassandra: You just they just they know it's not good for them, but they just can't let it go.
- 39:31Cassandra: And you could, if this is something they wanted, you can do your hypnosis and help them with that.
- 39:39JT: Yeah, because depending on you.
- 39:42JT: Absolutely.
- 39:43JT: And and and I in in the three steps to transformation that I have developed, the first step is to have a team around you.
- 39:51JT: So if the person is in a toxic relationship, she probably needs like very toxic, probably need more than a just a hypnotherapist.
- 39:59JT: And I'm just saying, just in terms of, you know, that's one part of the thing, but you might need other specialists as well for addiction.
- 40:07JT: The same thing.
- 40:08JT: I help a lot of people who want to stop drinking, but uh sometimes they're just they're not yet in the, you know, they have not hit rock bottom, they just want to stop drinking.
- 40:19JT: If if I suspect that there's a very deeper addiction issue, they always have to see their doctor and I make sure they have the right team around them.
- 40:29JT: I, you know, was addicted myself.
- 40:32JT: I'm still gonna be an addict all my life.
- 40:35JT: I mean, that's the brain has been damaged in that way, right?
- 40:40JT: And and so I needed other support.
- 40:43JT: But yes, I will be, I would say, a prominent team member of somebody going through those types of transformations.
- 40:51Cassandra: Okay, okay.
- 40:52Cassandra: And that's why this this podcast is called the power of belief.
- 40:56Cassandra: If you're like, yeah, like like you talked about the the TEDx talk or just speaking in front of people, you say, I'm great, I they I have something that people want to hear, and you go through the what you call the peel back, and then you got to rewire, and then then you have to rise.
- 41:14Cassandra: Now, I love something you said about I don't take myself seriously, but I take my work seriously.
- 41:24Cassandra: Unpack that a little bit for mine because a lot of us take ourselves seriously.
- 41:30JT: Yes, and uh in my work, in my line of work, I'd say there's a fine line.
- 41:37JT: There's a fine line where I feel some, I feel, and I don't don't want to criticize, it's not about criticizing anybody, but let's see my posture is to say, I am one way, I know what I do work and I don't and I know that I have helped, you know, hundreds of people.
- 41:55Cassandra: Sure.
- 41:55JT: And and my clients, I mean, 70, 70 to 75 percent of my clients are referrals.
- 42:01JT: They're people sending me.
- 42:02JT: And when I when I have a CEO sending me after his employees and these other people, like like, you know, I I have no doubt about the work that I do, but I'm not the only thing in this on this planet that exists to help people, and I'm not right for everybody as well, and every situation as well.
- 42:21JT: So that's why I don't take myself seriously in that term, like you know, and and I like humor.
- 42:27JT: So in the sessions we laugh a lot, like we don't, you know, there are moments where we cry, but there are moments where we laugh, right?
- 42:35JT: So that's why the work itself is very serious, it's very like 100% focused and dedicated to the client who's in front of me.
- 42:44JT: And I and I and I'm I give the best of everything I am and everything I know and everything I embody.
- 42:52JT: But as a professional, I don't take myself too seriously, I don't talk about my work all the time outside of work.
- 43:00JT: When I was in the corporate world, that's all I had.
- 43:02JT: That's all you talk about.
- 43:04JT: Yeah, it's no longer my identity.
- 43:06JT: This is what I do in life, but I am me as well, and I find that since I have found that balance, I have a much more complete life, so that's why I think that's good.
- 43:19Cassandra: So not not so burnt out like you were, yeah, exactly.
- 43:25JT: Oh, I'm not burning up at all.
- 43:26Cassandra: I have lots of energy.
- 43:27Cassandra: Oh my gosh, that's wonderful.
- 43:30Cassandra: If you could give your 20-year-old self one belief as a gift, something that would have changed everything about you, what would it have been?
- 43:44JT: It would be your important because I the first belief that I uncovered when I did hypnosis was I had the belief that I was not important, and that led me to all kinds of emotions, would led me to all kinds of action.
- 44:00JT: And when I mean important, it's not in an egoistic way.
- 44:03JT: I feel I'm more important than anybody is I matter, right?
- 44:09JT: It's more like I matter, I'm important, I matter, and I had the belief that I didn't matter and that I was not important.
- 44:16JT: So at 20 years old, if I could switch that early in my life, I think I would have a much more enriched human experience.
- 44:28Cassandra: So that that's that is that was before people said, it's something about you, you you don't have your papers, but we're gonna hire you.
- 44:37Cassandra: Was that before?
- 44:39JT: No, even if they would say that to me, you know, there were parts of me with that bit of an imposter syndrome where I would say, well.
- 44:46JT: If they really knew who I was, they wouldn't say that.
- 44:49JT: But but I was I love challenged and I I I you know I had some capabilities and capacities and energy and passion and I had that addicted uh addicted people have kind of a passion and energy when they when they zoom on something and they do want to get something done, they have that capacity, right?
- 45:13JT: Before they go too too deep into their addiction.
- 45:17JT: But uh so I had that, but I had the underlying unconscious belief.
- 45:23JT: Really, it was running deep very unconsciously that I didn't matter.
- 45:29Cassandra: Wow, that's amazing.
- 45:31Cassandra: That's amazing.
- 45:32Cassandra: Before we talk about the let what I want you to talk about, your your your call to action.
- 45:38Cassandra: But I'm I'm not really I I want my listeners to be somewhat clear about when you when the rug was pulled from under you, you you you kind of lost your identity because you were part of the brand.
- 45:56Cassandra: And so there are people now that have been laid off, they're looking for opportunities.
- 46:02Cassandra: What advice would you tell them to, you know, how did how do they move forward with that?
- 46:12JT: So I would say three steps.
- 46:15JT: The first one is really to have a team around you.
- 46:17JT: Okay.
- 46:18JT: So don't do that on your own.
- 46:20JT: Okay.
- 46:21JT: Have a team around you.
- 46:23JT: Right.
- 46:24JT: Identify what your needs are.
- 46:26JT: If your needs are, I know I'm in the right domain, but I like a let's say I'm a veterinarian, I know I'm in the right domain, but I I don't know what type of practice I want, or I want to totally change my you know what I'm doing in life.
- 46:42JT: So whatever it is, a health, I need to go back in shape, I need to, you know, whatever identify what your needs are.
- 46:49JT: What you care about.
- 46:51JT: What is it that you care about?
- 46:53JT: Okay, and then look at what is the way, what is the mean?
- 46:58JT: Who can help me for this thing?
- 47:02JT: And then be clear with that person.
- 47:04JT: I'm I'm reposi- I lost my job and I reposition, I want to reposition myself into that industry.
- 47:12JT: How can you help me?
- 47:13JT: Like ask for help.
- 47:16JT: And ask people, can you help me or not?
- 47:21JT: If the person cannot help you, that's fine.
- 47:23JT: You know, when I when I when I did that transformation, I was telling people, okay, I stopped drinking, I'm sober, this is the most important thing in my life.
- 47:34JT: How can you help me?
- 47:35JT: You're a nutritionist, you're a personal trainer, you're a massage therapist, how can you help me?
- 47:40JT: And if you can't, that's fine.
- 47:42JT: Right.
- 47:42JT: It was the same.
- 47:43JT: Like I, you know, then I became a consultant for a little while, and then and then I became go and experience things, you know.
- 47:51JT: I would say don't look for the next perfect opportunity, like just allow yourself to try things and to be curious, okay and to tell your subconscious mind.
- 48:03JT: I'm open now, I'm open now to try new things, but have a team around you is very important.
- 48:09JT: Okay, and then the second thing is to action every day.
- 48:13JT: So let's say you lost your employment, you want to redefine your next step.
- 48:19JT: So one thing I like to people to do is to go on job postings, print them, and then just highlight, don't highlight the title, don't highlight the the skills, just highlight the task and just highlight what you what excites you.
- 48:36JT: Oh, when I see traveling, I'm excited.
- 48:38JT: When I see uh when I see coordinating, I'm excited, when I see budget, I'm excited, when I see uh overseas, I'm excited, but whatever it is, and just start to tell your substantious mind those things matters to me, those things are relevant to me, and then you're gonna start to see things around you that are often already there that you don't even talk to people, go to lunch with people, ask them questions about what they do, about the company or about the project that they're working, be curious, right?
- 49:15Cassandra: So, in other words, you need people to help unpeel what it is that you want to do because it's like, well, can you help me?
- 49:22Cassandra: Well, I don't know.
- 49:22Cassandra: Well, uh, first of all, help what do you want to do?
- 49:25Cassandra: Like, like yours is one you want to stop drinking, one is I don't know, get out of this rut, and then you have to dig a little deeper to get an understanding of who it is that you want to be on on your team.
- 49:40JT: When I work with people for their career, what what I see is this three things is gonna happen from our work together.
- 49:46JT: Either you're gonna say, I'm at the right place, I just didn't have the right thoughts or the right belief.
- 49:52JT: Now that I have changed my belief, I realize I'm at the right place.
- 49:55JT: It's the right job for me.
- 49:57JT: Or are you gonna realize I'm at the right place, but I need to renegotiate certain things?
- 50:02JT: Or are you gonna say, This is not for me?
- 50:06JT: And but that the next step is you don't want to run away from where you are if you're still employed, you want to go to words, so then we decide we look at again in your subconscious mind, what is the path for you?
- 50:21JT: What does it look like?
- 50:22JT: Where are you gonna go to work instead of running?
- 50:27Cassandra: Okay, okay.
- 50:28Cassandra: Well, you have a call to action that I love, and I would tell my listeners if you are high achiever or either you just feel something is missing, are they able to book a free call?
- 50:45JT: Yes, yes, yeah.
- 50:47Cassandra: Tell them about that, tell them a little bit about that.
- 50:50JT: So you can book a free call.
- 50:51JT: There's a there's a pre-questionnaire that gives me an idea, and then we just talk, like you and I just talk now.
- 50:57JT: And we talk about what is your issue, what is your challenge, what you're trying to accomplish, and we see am I the right person for you or not?
- 51:05JT: If not, what other avenues could you explore?
- 51:08JT: My base program is really five sessions, and I see you every two to three weeks.
- 51:14JT: It's a two to three hour session.
- 51:16JT: We go really deep, and that's really my base program.
- 51:19JT: And most people enter through this door, and then after that, we decide on six months, a year, depending on you know on what the needs are.
- 51:26JT: Some people, the five sessions are just enough to solve what they needed to solve, but yeah, I love those free calls because I get to connect with people sometimes with the right person, sometimes not, but whatever it is, it's always good to get to know people.
- 51:43Cassandra: Excellent.
- 51:44Cassandra: Well, how can how can my business get in touch with you?
- 51:47JT: Yeah, if nocoach.ca, that's my website.
- 51:51JT: Say that again.
- 51:52JT: Yeah, if no coach dot ca.
- 51:54JT: Oh hypnoh h y p n o c O A C H.
- 52:04JT: Okay, hypnocoach.
