Latest / Unlocking The Paradigm Portal / When the Urge to Burn It All Down Comes Back (Authority Series Pt. 2)
Transcript
- 0:00Hey everybody, welcome back to unlocking the Paradigm portal.
- 0:03My name is Sarah. So this is Part 2 of something
- 0:07we started in the last episode. Because don't blow up your life
- 0:10is only step one. The real work is what you do
- 0:14when the urge comes back. Because it will.
- 0:17Not as a dramatic explosion, more like a quiet pressure that
- 0:21says something has to change now.
- 0:24And this is where authority comes in.
- 0:26Now, authority isn't control over your life, it's leadership
- 0:29over yourself or the ability to pause, assess, and choose your
- 0:34actions. Instead of being driven by
- 0:37urgency, fear and overwhelm, it is authority over you and your
- 0:43choices. So when the urge to burn it all
- 0:46down shows up again, it usually isn't loud.
- 0:49It's persistent, and it feels like restlessness or irritation
- 0:53or impatience. And it feels like a sense that
- 0:56everything is wrong and you can't tolerate it anymore.
- 1:00And your brain starts scanning for exit routes, not because
- 1:03your life is unsalageable, but because your nervous system
- 1:07wants relief. So harnessing that authority is
- 1:11the ability to feel that urgency without obeying it.
- 1:15And self authority isn't suppressing that urge.
- 1:18It's standing still long enough to decide whether the urge
- 1:21deserves action. And most people either react
- 1:25immediately or they try to numb it out.
- 1:29But authority does neither of those.
- 1:31Authority says I hear you, I'm not ignoring you, but I'm
- 1:36deciding the timing. And that alone changes
- 1:39everything. It's literally taking your power
- 1:41back. So when the impulse hits, try
- 1:44this. Just name what's actually
- 1:47happening, not my life is a mess that's falling into victim
- 1:51mentality and that's being caught up in the whirlwind.
- 1:55Instead of grounding yourself and instead acknowledging what
- 1:59exactly it is that you're feeling, you may say I'm
- 2:03overwhelmed or I'm exhausted or I'm scared, or maybe I need
- 2:09relief. And this might seem overly
- 2:13simplistic, but it's the reality of the most important thing that
- 2:16you can do. Because specific language brings
- 2:18your thinking brain back online, and this can help you widen your
- 2:23timeline so authority thinks in days and months, not minutes.
- 2:30It doesn't have that same degree of urgency, or at least if it
- 2:33feels that urgency, it isn't run by it.
- 2:36So instead try asking yourself what action would future me be
- 2:41grateful for instead of what would currently feel better
- 2:45about right now? And that differentiation alone
- 2:48will break you from being caught up in the cyclone to being in
- 2:52power, in control of your decisions for the your best
- 2:56future. So authority.
- 2:59Also, it looks like choosing contained action instead of
- 3:03explosive action. And I know explosive action can
- 3:06be kind of fun in the moment and it gives you that instant
- 3:10gratification, but is it for your highest good?
- 3:14And that is for you to decide. So instead of quitting, update
- 3:18your resume. Instead of ending a
- 3:21relationship, start the hard conversation, which frankly,
- 3:25that's where most relationships go sideways.
- 3:28People avoid the hard conversations for a multitude of
- 3:32reasons. We can get into that another
- 3:34day, but have the hard conversation and instead of
- 3:38disappearing or just going radio silent, maybe take a day off.
- 3:44And if you're feeling that restlessness in your body, try
- 3:49finding some form of movement without destruction.
- 3:53I just had a conversation with a couple of people about this,
- 3:56that instead of trying to, you know, make all these massive
- 4:00changes or try to force yourself into stillness and meditation,
- 4:05maybe try dancing, put on some music with like a really good
- 4:09tribal kind of beat. Stomp your feet, move your body
- 4:12around. And authority is about change
- 4:18without the chaos and direction, without the panic.
- 4:22It is moving with intention. And at the end of this, this
- 4:25episode, I'm going to clip the video that I did on intention
- 4:30versus autopilot. Authority is all about making
- 4:35every decision from a place of intention rather than just
- 4:39running on old programming. And again, I'm going to
- 4:42reiterate this over and over, there is no wrong choice.
- 4:46You get to decide. That is your authority over your
- 4:49own life. And whatever choice you make, do
- 4:52it with intention and with your blinders off, fully aware.
- 4:58So anyone can make a dramatic decision.
- 5:01But authority is built by making regulated ones, by proving
- 5:05yourself to yourself that you can tolerate discomfort without
- 5:09abandoning your life, and by showing your nervous system that
- 5:13urgency doesn't control you. And if your nervous system has
- 5:18been hyperactive for a long time, urgency has been
- 5:20controlling you. It's a safety mechanism.
- 5:23There's no judgement in it. It's just an awareness of it.
- 5:27And by being able to gradually shift your nervous system into
- 5:31your own safety and recognize the urgency, but also set it
- 5:36aside. That's how stability grows.
- 5:38It's not from one big bold move, but from that consistent,
- 5:43grounded, small baby step ones. So if the urge is back tonight,
- 5:49it doesn't mean you failed. It means something inside you
- 5:52still wants change. And your job isn't to silence
- 5:55that voice. Your job is to lead with it.
- 5:59You can want a different life without detonating the one you
- 6:02have, and you can move forward without turning it into a
- 6:06crisis. And you can change from
- 6:08authority instead of reaction. It's just every little step you
- 6:14take will be one more toward that shift into owning your
- 6:18power. So here's your authority
- 6:21reminder. You don't have to act just
- 6:23because something feels urgent. Pause.
- 6:26There is power in the pause. Allow yourself that moment.
- 6:30Don't respond to the text. Don't respond to the voicemail.
- 6:33Don't respond in the moment. It is OK.
- 6:36And I am here giving you permission to say if you need
- 6:40to, I need to sit with that for a little bit before I respond.
- 6:45And that pause will allow you to stabilize.
- 6:48And then that stabilization allows you to choose
- 6:51deliberately what is best for you.
- 6:54What is your yes? What is your no?
- 6:58Because we're not here to prove our truth with chaos, and we're
- 7:02here to build lives we don't need to escape from.
- 7:06So I hope that you got something interesting out of this.
- 7:10I hope it made you think and dive in with a little bit more
- 7:13curiosity. And if this helped, follow the
- 7:17show. So it's here the next time you
- 7:18need steady ground because authority isn't loud.
- 7:21It's calm. It's clear and intentional and
- 7:25it's yours. You decide.
- 7:27Do you take the reins or are you led by the chaos?
- 7:32So that is it for tonight and I will see you back in a few days.
- 7:38As a heads up, I do some shorts on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday
- 7:44called Light in the Dark to help you calm yourself before going
- 7:47to bed. And on Sunday, I'm doing a deep
- 7:50dive longer episode where you'll get to know more about me.
- 7:53I'm going to go follow on vulnerability so you know who
- 7:56exactly you're listening to. So have a great evening and day.
- 8:01I'm recording this Thursday night, hence the evening
- 8:03references and I will be back soon.
- 8:07Leave me a comment, like it, share it, subscribe, do all the
- 8:11things. There's something about hyping.
- 8:13I don't fully understand it, but whatever, it doesn't matter.
- 8:16I just want you to have that little glimmer of light in your
- 8:19life that maybe prompts you to decide what's best for you.
- 8:24Thank you so much for listening and I'll be back shortly.
