- 0:25Speaker 1: Chad's on again this week.
- 0:26Speaker 2: We love it.
- 0:27Speaker 1: We loved last week. This conversation was really fun. We're
- 0:30Speaker 1: talking Atlanta, which obviously means we are talking ninety eight Vikings,
- 0:34Speaker 1: and then we get into this week's matchup. I think
- 0:36Speaker 1: you're really gonna like it. And if you do leave
- 0:38Speaker 1: us a review, it helps us out enjoy the show. Everybody,
- 0:45Speaker 1: lay recket, recket be Come.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Baby turn here.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Hey, Viking fans, welcome back to another episode of the
- 0:59Speaker 1: tale Ogate. It's me Si Si Oninson. I'm your host,
- 1:03Speaker 1: your improbably one to zero. Minnesota Vikings are coming back
- 1:09Speaker 1: home a second straight week of primetime games. They're getting
- 1:12Speaker 1: the Atlanta Falcons and joining me and I get to
- 1:15Speaker 1: say the words as always joining me as always to
- 1:21Speaker 1: discuss all things Atlanta. A man who watched Week one
- 1:28Speaker 1: on a cell phone. Ladies and gentlemen, the Great Chad Daniels.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Hello, thank you for having me back. This episode is
- 1:36Speaker 2: brought to you by It just kidding, because if it were,
- 1:38Speaker 2: you couldn't hear me right now. My internet was down.
- 1:42Speaker 2: And you wait, you watch all the games right all
- 1:47Speaker 2: the games Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and you go, this is
- 1:51Speaker 2: our night, and then you get a text that says, psych,
- 1:55Speaker 2: your internet's down. So I didn't know what I was
- 1:57Speaker 2: gonna do. I also have a body carrier service, so
- 2:02Speaker 2: I wasn't able to get the game right away. And
- 2:05Speaker 2: I thought, am I going to have to be one
- 2:07Speaker 2: of those guys that walks to my neighbor's house and
- 2:10Speaker 2: just watches from a window. I considered it, I'm not
- 2:14Speaker 2: kidding you, But then I live in kind of a
- 2:17Speaker 2: ritzy area.
- 2:18Speaker 1: They we're gonna call the police if there's a guy
- 2:20Speaker 1: at the window area.
- 2:21Speaker 2: But I also live in an area where the homes
- 2:23Speaker 2: are owned by like CEOs, and you don't know what's
- 2:26Speaker 2: gonna happen. So I propped up my cell phone and
- 2:31Speaker 2: watched it, and my vision is waning. It was interesting.
- 2:36Speaker 2: I just kind of I basically listened to the call.
- 2:38Speaker 1: I assumed you had your mother goose glasses on this
- 2:41Speaker 1: morning because your eyes have been strained for days.
- 2:44Speaker 2: That's very, very true.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Yeah, my brother Greg, so he didn't pay for any
- 2:50Speaker 1: streaming service. Like he didn't. They're one of these. It's
- 2:53Speaker 1: not that he doesn't like TV. Their family just doesn't
- 2:55Speaker 1: watch much. So he was doing this thing. They had
- 3:00Speaker 1: internet and to watch. Young people will know what this is.
- 3:05Speaker 1: But there's a lot of people on YouTube who just
- 3:08Speaker 1: do play by play of the game, but you can't
- 3:10Speaker 1: see the game. So it's just like some guy named
- 3:13Speaker 1: Ricky in a garage like get through it and Delan
- 3:16Speaker 1: caught it and it was a catch. That's how Greg.
- 3:20Speaker 1: That's how he watched that Lions game last year in
- 3:23Speaker 1: Week eighteen, he watched one of the most important he had.
- 3:27Speaker 1: He invited the baby boy, my nephew Ethan over to
- 3:29Speaker 1: his house, like you want to watch the game, didn't
- 3:32Speaker 1: tell him the untill he got there. It's YouTube Ricky
- 3:35Speaker 1: walking him through YouTube.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Ricky.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Here's the thing, like we have the thing that sucks
- 3:42Speaker 1: about this episode for you and I is we have
- 3:45Speaker 1: to look forward. That's our job. We're a Thursday show today,
- 3:49Speaker 1: we're looking forward. We are It was a Monday game,
- 3:52Speaker 1: and you and I aren't passed wanting to talk about
- 3:55Speaker 1: what happens, but we have to be because everybody's talked
- 3:58Speaker 1: about it already. But I will tell you two things
- 4:01Speaker 1: about that Monday game that jump off of last week's episode. Okay,
- 4:06Speaker 1: can we take a moment and just be proud of
- 4:08Speaker 1: me for how I acted in our group text thread
- 4:12Speaker 1: when when the first three quarters most of the state
- 4:15Speaker 1: was like, why did we draft this guy? You didn't
- 4:18Speaker 1: hear much from me? And then when he became a
- 4:21Speaker 1: superhero and the whole state was like put him in
- 4:23Speaker 1: the Hall of Fame, you also like I was. I
- 4:27Speaker 1: was the even that I've never been, and I think
- 4:30Speaker 1: I just deserve a lot of text thread credit.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Well, I'm gonna tell you something that I walked into
- 4:35Speaker 2: probably the greatest strategy that's ever been. I'm gonna watch
- 4:40Speaker 2: every game on my cell phone so I don't have
- 4:42Speaker 2: to deal with the lunacy that takes place. Yeah, is
- 4:45Speaker 2: that why?
- 4:45Speaker 1: Because you weren't responding to me that I didn't have, Yeah.
- 4:48Speaker 2: I turned off notifications because it kept ruining the screen
- 4:53Speaker 2: and it would take up half the screen. So I
- 4:54Speaker 2: turned off notifications, and then I get to go back
- 4:58Speaker 2: and review your text, Messa, and I can put a
- 5:01Speaker 2: haha by it when you're wrong. I can look back
- 5:05Speaker 2: with a perfect twenty twenty vision. So that's how I'm
- 5:08Speaker 2: going to keep watching the game.
- 5:09Speaker 1: But it's like you're some horrible text message teacher grade
- 5:13Speaker 1: in my paper.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Yeah, well, you were the most tolerable you've been in
- 5:17Speaker 2: a while.
- 5:18Speaker 1: I will say that, and I think it paid off.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I think that was football karma, tolerable through the tough,
- 5:23Speaker 1: and we got rewarded with that big fourth quarter. I
- 5:26Speaker 1: told you last week that my dad calls it Bears
- 5:29Speaker 1: bye week whenever we play in Chicago. Right, he broke
- 5:33Speaker 1: his rule because it was the opening game of the season.
- 5:36Speaker 1: It's this new quarterback, and he did not He was
- 5:40Speaker 1: not as chill in the first three quarters on text message.
- 5:44Speaker 1: But then it was interesting. It didn't seem like there
- 5:47Speaker 1: was going to be a moment for the Angs because
- 5:49Speaker 1: the first three quarters were hard, and then all of
- 5:51Speaker 1: a sudden, bam, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh
- 5:53Speaker 1: my gosh, now we're up ten there just wasn't You
- 5:56Speaker 1: didn't have time to process the angs. And then here
- 5:59Speaker 1: comes that last little drive with the and all that stuff,
- 6:03Speaker 1: and my dad his Apple Watch like he got he
- 6:07Speaker 1: got the old school Viking stress and his Apple Watch
- 6:10Speaker 1: is like, hey, man, go outside, what's going on? We
- 6:14Speaker 1: have we have there's something wrong. Are you being chased
- 6:17Speaker 1: by four or five lions right now? What's happening? Bruce?
- 6:21Speaker 1: So he he had to take a little break at
- 6:24Speaker 1: the most important moment of the game because his Apple
- 6:26Speaker 1: Watch was really worried about it.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Oh that's perfect. I will tell you. Another advantage of
- 6:30Speaker 2: watching on your phone with the quite possibly the worst
- 6:35Speaker 2: cellular carrier known to man is that it would be
- 6:39Speaker 2: like JJ McCarthy drops back, and then it would just
- 6:43Speaker 2: be a long pause and then be like the Vikings
- 6:46Speaker 2: decide to go for two. You're like, oh, they scored good.
- 6:49Speaker 2: I didn't even have to stress through any of that.
- 6:50Speaker 2: It was perfect.
- 6:53Speaker 1: We have to so we have to move forward. Yes,
- 6:56Speaker 1: let's let's move forward to the Falcons.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Yes.
- 7:00Speaker 1: And I think the tough thing for you and I is,
- 7:04Speaker 1: despite us being at very different ages, because you're twenty
- 7:07Speaker 1: to thirty years older than.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Me, that's absolutely not true, and it's mean and it's gross.
- 7:11Speaker 1: I think ninety eight was this formative year for both
- 7:17Speaker 1: of us. So like whenever anybody even says the word falcon,
- 7:22Speaker 1: I just go and it just it just hurts in
- 7:26Speaker 1: this way. It ruined for me. I'm a child of
- 7:29Speaker 1: ninth grade. At that point, there was this idea like
- 7:36Speaker 1: you hadn't lived through forty fifty sixty years of sports,
- 7:39Speaker 1: you have, oh my gosh, here's Randy Mawson. It's gonna
- 7:42Speaker 1: this is forever, right, And that just crushed me and
- 7:46Speaker 1: ruined me. And for you, I know that was the year,
- 7:51Speaker 1: right that you came back to the fold, right, it was?
- 7:54Speaker 2: It was the year before that, Yeah, because Randall Cunningham
- 7:58Speaker 2: I followed him over from the Eagles and then he
- 8:00Speaker 2: went in for Brad Johnson. And I was at that
- 8:02Speaker 2: game and I'm like, I guess my eagle stuff gets
- 8:06Speaker 2: put in a little bin. And now now I'm full
- 8:09Speaker 2: on back.
- 8:10Speaker 1: You took a little you took a little born where
- 8:11Speaker 1: you're supposed to be born, took a little eagle detour.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Hey listen, I was, you know, trying my hardest to
- 8:18Speaker 2: be a professional rapper and Criss Cross was big back then,
- 8:22Speaker 2: and they were Eagles fans. What was I going to
- 8:24Speaker 2: do Motown Philly with you know, everybody else the boys
- 8:28Speaker 2: to men and so so I went over to Philly
- 8:31Speaker 2: because I thought that's where you could really start your
- 8:32Speaker 2: rap career. And then Cunningham comes over here, I follow
- 8:36Speaker 2: him back boom bikes fans. Now I was driving home
- 8:40Speaker 2: because this is my first year I was doing professional
- 8:42Speaker 2: stand up. So I was living in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Drive back to Minneapolis.
- 8:46Speaker 1: To like all successful rappers, yes.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Of course, And as I'm driving, I did that Minnesota
- 8:56Speaker 2: Jinx thing where I go, I wonder when they give
- 8:59Speaker 2: us our Super Bowl money, what I'm going to spend
- 9:02Speaker 2: it on? And that's what I thought. The whole drive
- 9:04Speaker 2: I was thinking about. You know, they have to divvy
- 9:06Speaker 2: up the money to all the fans, right, so what
- 9:09Speaker 2: am I going to spend mine on? And then you
- 9:12Speaker 2: know the kick and all of that stuff. So, yeah,
- 9:15Speaker 2: the Falcons, they're a team where you go, it's it's
- 9:18Speaker 2: great to beat them. It's great to beat them.
- 9:21Speaker 1: There's a couple the fact that they call and I
- 9:23Speaker 1: never knew this until recently. They called the kick where
- 9:26Speaker 1: that kicked them into the Super Bowl, like we have
- 9:28Speaker 1: the kick Gary Anderson, they call the kick that got
- 9:31Speaker 1: made in overtime to they call it.
- 9:33Speaker 2: The kick and absolutely not.
- 9:36Speaker 1: My soul hates that so much I can't put words
- 9:39Speaker 1: into it. And I think also they robbed us, like
- 9:44Speaker 1: that game robbed us. Dan Soder told this great story
- 9:48Speaker 1: on the show last year of the year before. He
- 9:51Speaker 1: was at the Broncos AFC Championship game that same year
- 9:55Speaker 1: and when they flashed the score on the JumboTron, he said,
- 9:58Speaker 1: people didn't even cheer as much as they were like,
- 10:01Speaker 1: oh thank God, oh man, like just this relief because
- 10:05Speaker 1: they all knew they dodged a bullet. I think it's
- 10:08Speaker 1: not just that we lost a chance at a Super Bowl.
- 10:11Speaker 1: I think that offense, like there have been better offenses since,
- 10:14Speaker 1: but it was not only did it set the scoring record,
- 10:17Speaker 1: and then of course the Rams did and the Patriots
- 10:19Speaker 1: did and whatever, but people didn't throw the ball down
- 10:22Speaker 1: the field like that before that. It was almost like
- 10:26Speaker 1: setting the scoring record with a reinvention of dynamic, explosive offense, right.
- 10:31Speaker 1: And I think you can make the argument that that
- 10:35Speaker 1: season is viewed in the way that like the eighty
- 10:40Speaker 1: five Bears. I think it's a top ten all time
- 10:43Speaker 1: National Football League team if we win that Super Bowl,
- 10:46Speaker 1: And that's what eats me alive, not just that we
- 10:49Speaker 1: didn't get the Super Bowl.
- 10:50Speaker 2: I think that team is the reason there's a pitch clock.
- 10:54Speaker 2: I think is a reason there's a serve clock in tennis.
- 10:57Speaker 2: I think there's a reason that they took they for
- 11:00Speaker 2: the two pass line. I think I think watching that
- 11:04Speaker 2: team all other sports were like, we need to speed
- 11:07Speaker 2: it up and make this more interesting.
- 11:09Speaker 1: We need to Randy mossify.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Yes, exactly, yeah, truly as.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Much as like, But the Falcons have never fallen into
- 11:17Speaker 1: that category for me. Of Packers, Saints, these teams that
- 11:21Speaker 1: I just ah right, can't even look like. That's why
- 11:25Speaker 1: I could never play fantasy like you could have the
- 11:28Speaker 1: best Packer receiver on the board, I'm just not taking them.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I just don't. I find no joy in that. But
- 11:34Speaker 1: I think because Atlanta was the recipient of the loss
- 11:39Speaker 1: of in my opinion, the best Minnesota moment in decades
- 11:45Speaker 1: and decades and decades, where they're they're up three to
- 11:47Speaker 1: two in the World Series with the Braves, right, and
- 11:50Speaker 1: then we go Pucket crazy catch touch them all, Kirby Pucket,
- 11:54Speaker 1: which I can still cry. You could play it right
- 11:56Speaker 1: now the audio and I will get misty, and then
- 12:01Speaker 1: I think, like the single arguably one of the single
- 12:05Speaker 1: greatest performances in the history of Minnesota sports, if not
- 12:08Speaker 1: all of professional sports. Ten shutout innings by black Jack Morris,
- 12:12Speaker 1: the no shut up, get out of the way, I'm
- 12:14Speaker 1: going back out there. Yeah, and we're rounding the bases
- 12:17Speaker 1: in the tenth little Gene Larkin happiness. That to me,
- 12:22Speaker 1: I just I'm not gonna as much as I hate
- 12:25Speaker 1: that game, it hasn't fallen on Atlanta. I don't despise
- 12:28Speaker 1: Atlanta in the same way I do other places.
- 12:31Speaker 2: They just played football. Our kicker who hadn't missed, missed,
- 12:36Speaker 2: and it's they weren't a villain in it. They just
- 12:40Speaker 2: played a game.
- 12:41Speaker 1: It's kind of that Santa Claus isn't real thing when
- 12:43Speaker 1: you realize, God damn, that's Uncle Doug under that beard.
- 12:47Speaker 1: It's Uncle Doug. That's what Gary Anderson was missing was
- 12:51Speaker 1: I could see Uncle Doug's I recognized one of his teeth.
- 12:54Speaker 1: I was like, that's a Doug tooth right there. You've
- 12:57Speaker 1: ruined my innocence.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I played so a clause for a family and
- 13:01Speaker 2: didn't realize they could see my tattoos on my wrist
- 13:04Speaker 2: and the little boy goes, why does he have tattoos?
- 13:06Speaker 2: And I go, oh, this is my map, so I
- 13:08Speaker 2: know where to go, and the little boy was like,
- 13:10Speaker 2: oh cool, Yeah, so he's he's going to be extra mad.
- 13:16Speaker 1: So last week, continuing down that vein, we did the
- 13:18Speaker 1: Love It, Hate It, which I think is a good
- 13:21Speaker 1: I think I'm going to keep that going. I think
- 13:22Speaker 1: that's a good thing for me to throw out some
- 13:24Speaker 1: things that I like so I can balance. Maybe that's
- 13:26Speaker 1: what led to me having such a nice text threat exchanges.
- 13:30Speaker 1: I really balanced out the way I was thinking. Because
- 13:32Speaker 1: here's the thing. Atlanta is one of my favorite cities.
- 13:38Speaker 1: But there are things about it, namely getting there and
- 13:43Speaker 1: some of the shows I've done that like reverse like this,
- 13:47Speaker 1: but the city I really like a lot about it.
- 13:51Speaker 1: But from an organizational standpoint, there's a couple of things that, God,
- 13:59Speaker 1: I just make me laugh so hard. So this is
- 14:04Speaker 1: probably one of the best fun facts I've learned doing
- 14:08Speaker 1: this show. So the NFL draft, obviously, when mel Kiper
- 14:13Speaker 1: came around, it started it became this big thing and
- 14:15Speaker 1: now it's an event beyond events. But there was a
- 14:19Speaker 1: point in time where it was done, like the coach
- 14:22Speaker 1: just goes, I'll take Jimmy. You know, somebody called Jimmy's
- 14:26Speaker 1: mom and let him know that he needs to come
- 14:28Speaker 1: to camp. It wasn't always done that way. And so
- 14:32Speaker 1: Norm van Brocklin, he was a general manager and the
- 14:36Speaker 1: coach of the Falcons in seventy one.
- 14:39Speaker 2: That's how they used to do it.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Dude, and Norm Van Brocklin all time personality. So he
- 14:45Speaker 1: he is bored by the draft process and just that sentence. Yeah,
- 14:51Speaker 1: it's like being it's like being a contractor who's bored
- 14:55Speaker 1: with with you know, framing houses, Like I understand that
- 14:59Speaker 1: this a while, but like you're the frame guy. You
- 15:02Speaker 1: got to make sure this goes right.
- 15:04Speaker 2: That's why it's confusing when people go, oh, man adhd,
- 15:07Speaker 2: that's a new thing. And then you find out Van
- 15:10Speaker 2: Brocklin was like, I'm bored by this draft process. Let
- 15:14Speaker 2: me let me change it to how I like it.
- 15:17Speaker 1: What do we what do I need with all these players?
- 15:20Speaker 1: If we did it in a half hour, that'd be nice.
- 15:23Speaker 1: So he gets bored with the draft process and then
- 15:26Speaker 1: verbally calls out this is him and like and I
- 15:30Speaker 1: love a point when the coaches made the picks verbally
- 15:33Speaker 1: as well. But he calls out, do we want and
- 15:35Speaker 1: I'm quoting, do we want the roughest, toughest SOB in
- 15:39Speaker 1: the draft. And then he tried to draft sixty four
- 15:43Speaker 1: year old actor John Wayne. That's amazing, and the commissioner,
- 15:52Speaker 1: Pete Roselle basically to back, no, No, he can't do that.
- 16:00Speaker 1: One of the best things I've ever heard.
- 16:02Speaker 2: I love that. I would I would love to draft
- 16:05Speaker 2: Jackie Chan because then you could get all the fans.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Every time he tackles somebody, all the fans would be like,
- 16:10Speaker 2: that's actually him. He did that.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Can you imagine the I just somebody with just just
- 16:19Speaker 1: koc walking out and going all right, yes, speed is important.
- 16:25Speaker 1: We want somebody fast, you know, but we need somebody
- 16:28Speaker 1: who runs with anger and not just anger. I want
- 16:30Speaker 1: him to be I don't know, furious. We need somebody
- 16:35Speaker 1: fast and furious. And he just drafts Vin Diesel. Now,
- 16:43Speaker 1: I know the Rock makes more sense as a draft
- 16:45Speaker 1: pick from the fast and the furious, but I think
- 16:49Speaker 1: I think Vin Diesel's the funnier pick.
- 16:51Speaker 2: I think he's the funnier pick, and I think he's
- 16:52Speaker 2: also more inspiring because he'll just like hands in with Emily.
- 16:58Speaker 1: I also think Ludacris has a sneaky wide Receiver three vibe.
- 17:02Speaker 1: He's got like a Kelly Campbell vibe to him.
- 17:05Speaker 2: That'd be the greatest back of a jersey ever. Chris
- 17:08Speaker 2: Ludacris bridges all the way down, starts at his waist,
- 17:12Speaker 2: rainbow's up down back to his waist.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Every once in a while, I remember that a Viking
- 17:17Speaker 1: existed and it just makes me smile. Last week that
- 17:20Speaker 1: was washwasirwanga. And I don't know how or why when
- 17:24Speaker 1: thinking about this, Kelly Campbell just popped into my head.
- 17:27Speaker 1: But I believe Kelly Campbell and j our producer can
- 17:31Speaker 1: tell me if this is right or not. But I
- 17:33Speaker 1: think he was part of AFROS America's fastest receivers on Sunday,
- 17:40Speaker 1: led by Randy Moss. They had their own little it
- 17:42Speaker 1: was like it was like a real ww F vibe
- 17:45Speaker 1: where they had their own team more WCW. They were
- 17:48Speaker 1: like the nWo Wolfpack with inside that their own little
- 17:51Speaker 1: wide receiver gang. But if I recall correctly. Kelly Campbell
- 17:56Speaker 1: was the first guy who's like he did the weekend
- 17:59Speaker 1: at Bernie Dance after big catches or touchdowns and that's
- 18:05Speaker 1: a thing now. But for him to pull that off
- 18:07Speaker 1: and what was that two thousand and three, two thousand
- 18:09Speaker 1: and four, something like that, that's an all time to
- 18:12Speaker 1: be the og on that.
- 18:13Speaker 2: It's pretty special.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Jay just texted me Moss, Kelly Campbell and Nate Burlason
- 18:19Speaker 1: were the Afros. Love it in terms of things I love.
- 18:23Speaker 1: This is a memory for me. This one cuts both
- 18:26Speaker 1: ways though. I remember watching with my dad when Michael
- 18:31Speaker 1: Vick got to the Falcons and he single handedly changed
- 18:36Speaker 1: generations of Lambeau mystique where they would not lose there
- 18:41Speaker 1: in the winter, they would not lose there in the playoffs.
- 18:43Speaker 1: And then Mike Vick walked in and absolutely annihilated the
- 18:50Speaker 1: very good Packers I believe night games snow coming down,
- 18:54Speaker 1: and we just watched almost like you were you learned
- 18:58Speaker 1: that your hero was broke and had been lying to
- 19:01Speaker 1: you the whole time. It was just like this destruction
- 19:05Speaker 1: of mythology. That was an all time kid football moment
- 19:09Speaker 1: for me, as somebody who doesn't like the Packers.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of a lot of old Packer fans
- 19:14Speaker 2: every time he ran the ball, just like you gotta
- 19:16Speaker 2: you gotta throw it. That's got to be illegal. Referee
- 19:19Speaker 2: in there and do something.
- 19:23Speaker 1: It does cut the other way, because that Mike Vick thing,
- 19:27Speaker 1: we are forever in the NFL rule book and on
- 19:32Speaker 1: the highlight film. He first season is a full time guy.
- 19:38Speaker 1: I think I think the number was one hundreds. That's
- 19:40Speaker 1: that famous game where he's in overtime. He split the defense,
- 19:44Speaker 1: ran it for fifty whatever yards for a touchdown, then
- 19:48Speaker 1: just threw the ball and ran into the tunnel and
- 19:51Speaker 1: went home in one of the coolest walk off moves.
- 19:54Speaker 1: A fifty plus yard QB touchdown run to win the game,
- 19:57Speaker 1: and he pieces out unbelievable one hundred and seventy three.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Still to this day, I don't know, even with Lamar
- 20:05Speaker 1: and some other guys, I don't know that a quarterback
- 20:07Speaker 1: ever touches one seventy three.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Again, that's so many yards.
- 20:10Speaker 1: It's so many yards. Let's do a little bit of
- 20:13Speaker 1: the bad. Okay, there is no place that sucks on
- 20:17Speaker 1: earth like the Atlanta Airport.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Well, see, I was gonna give you I cannot when
- 20:22Speaker 2: we're talking about Atlanta. Love hate, I love and hate
- 20:28Speaker 2: things equally there, right, Like I love that there is
- 20:33Speaker 2: a place called Buckhead. Oh I love that. You hear
- 20:36Speaker 2: somebody say that in the Atlanta accent and they go, hey, y'all,
- 20:39Speaker 2: we're going to Buckhead, and you go, I'm about to
- 20:42Speaker 2: ride a mechanical bull And then you get there and
- 20:45Speaker 2: it's just a sea of thousands of finance bros. And
- 20:52Speaker 2: it sucks.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Yeah, you think you're walking into like the theme park
- 20:57Speaker 1: that the great Jeff Foxworthy started, Like, come on down
- 21:00Speaker 1: to Buckheads and get you a bb gun and see
- 21:04Speaker 1: how many of these bullfrogs you can kill.
- 21:06Speaker 2: If you wanted to shoot clay pigeons on a roller coaster,
- 21:11Speaker 2: well you might want to come to Buckhead.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Yes, we can't do it. If we can't do it,
- 21:22Speaker 1: it'll be the whole show. If you like water slides
- 21:27Speaker 1: that land in a puddle of ice.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Cold brew, come on down.
- 21:30Speaker 1: To Buckhead all day. It could just be the rest
- 21:35Speaker 1: of the show and everybody be like, what happened to
- 21:38Speaker 1: those two hosts from last week?
- 21:40Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I'll be done.
- 21:41Speaker 1: But I also you keep doing that impression. The Vikings
- 21:45Speaker 1: are gonna not let you come to the next home game.
- 21:48Speaker 2: So I you talk about the Atlanta Airport, I it's
- 21:54Speaker 2: it's maddening because you have to walk underneath the airport
- 21:58Speaker 2: and it's always somehow one hundred and fifty percent humidity.
- 22:03Speaker 2: It smells like wet. It sucks. But then you walk through.
- 22:07Speaker 2: If you actually walk to the different thing, there's the
- 22:11Speaker 2: art down there, is unbelievable. So love hate I also
- 22:17Speaker 2: love doing stand up in Atlanta. But the last time
- 22:20Speaker 2: I was there, I was at a club that's connected
- 22:22Speaker 2: to like a let's just call it like a Perkins,
- 22:26Speaker 2: like that kind of a restaurant.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Pastry diner. Last time, it's every time. It's the only
- 22:30Speaker 1: place any of us play when we go there, And.
- 22:32Speaker 2: They were shooting a rap video where they kept getting
- 22:37Speaker 2: it wrong, so they had to start the song over
- 22:41Speaker 2: a hundred times. It was unbelievable. And then typical Atlanta
- 22:47Speaker 2: rap scene, the guys come over, we meet them, they
- 22:53Speaker 2: meet us, We're having a great time, and then the
- 22:56Speaker 2: guy goes he goes, hey, are you familiar with this rap?
- 23:00Speaker 2: And I go absolutely, and he goes, all right, you
- 23:02Speaker 2: should come next door, and I was like, is he there?
- 23:04Speaker 2: And he goes no, no, no, no, no, no no.
- 23:06Speaker 2: His cousin's friend is over there, and I was like, Okay,
- 23:10Speaker 2: I love and hate this.
- 23:15Speaker 1: The idea of you having your show ruined by a
- 23:19Speaker 1: rap video being shot, but also knowing how deeply you
- 23:23Speaker 1: believe you could have been a white wrapper, like those
- 23:26Speaker 1: two emotions flowing inside of you at the same time,
- 23:29Speaker 1: stuck in that club slash pastry diner. That's good imagery
- 23:32Speaker 1: for me. I like it.
- 23:33Speaker 2: It was tough for me to not walk over there
- 23:35Speaker 2: and demand a spot in the video.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Yeah, get a little bit of CD White in there. Absolutely, Yeah,
- 23:41Speaker 1: And I'm gonna put I'm just gonna cap this thing
- 23:43Speaker 1: off because I do think the best thing about Atlanta,
- 23:46Speaker 1: one of the best things, is the great Jeff Foxworthy. Dude.
- 23:51Speaker 1: He was so good, dude, he was so good on
- 23:53Speaker 1: the show last year. And I think I think, since
- 23:56Speaker 1: we're both in the range of friendly with him, I
- 23:58Speaker 1: do think we should pitch him Jeff fox Worthy's Buckhead.
- 24:01Speaker 2: I'm into it.
- 24:02Speaker 1: I think take it's time to take Buckhead back. Yes,
- 24:06Speaker 1: And I don't know enough about Buckhead that if that's
- 24:08Speaker 1: gonna be really not great thing to have said, because
- 24:11Speaker 1: we're taking it from people. My bad, but it's time.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Let's time taking it from finance bros. I'm gonna tell
- 24:17Speaker 2: you that's the bars, the bars and Buckhead sell out
- 24:21Speaker 2: of vodka SODA's by seven pm.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Let's let's put the buck back in Buckhead. Yeah, okay,
- 24:29Speaker 1: Let's talk about the game. A game that I am,
- 24:32Speaker 1: A game that I am worried about now that should
- 24:34Speaker 1: not surprise you in any way, shape or form.
- 24:38Speaker 2: That's all you do. It's all you do is worry.
- 24:40Speaker 1: And I'm good at it. Okay. I would say I'm
- 24:45Speaker 1: the koc of worrying about whether or not we will
- 24:48Speaker 1: perform well in this next game. I could be that
- 24:51Speaker 1: of the year. Uh, but I don't like how the
- 24:54Speaker 1: Falcons lost last week. They had every their their reliable kicker,
- 24:59Speaker 1: missus a kick they you know they and and Raheem
- 25:03Speaker 1: Morris has been there. This is a big year for him.
- 25:07Speaker 1: I think they are going to to go zero and
- 25:10Speaker 1: two is not great down there. It's been a long
- 25:13Speaker 1: time since they've had a winning season. They've got a
- 25:15Speaker 1: lot of weapons, They've got a lot put on that team.
- 25:18Speaker 1: I think this is gonna be a kitchen sink game.
- 25:20Speaker 1: And last year, God, they did that thing where they
- 25:23Speaker 1: came out and were not great in Week one, lost
- 25:25Speaker 1: and then they went to easily the best team in
- 25:27Speaker 1: football who ended up being the Super Bowl champions, the
- 25:30Speaker 1: Philadelphia Eagles, in prime time and throddled them. So it's
- 25:35Speaker 1: not like this is a team that's gonna go, oh no,
- 25:39Speaker 1: we and now we have to go and pray they're
- 25:42Speaker 1: coming to our place in prime time.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Right.
- 25:45Speaker 1: I'm just worried. This is like, you know, it's like
- 25:48Speaker 1: one of those dogs that like hasn't had food in
- 25:52Speaker 1: a while, and then for some reason, your pocket like
- 25:55Speaker 1: is full. You know, why is there a sandwich in
- 25:58Speaker 1: your pocket near this dog? That's how I feel right.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Now, because I love sandwiches. But here's what's gonna I
- 26:03Speaker 2: think that they know that they were close. They know
- 26:08Speaker 2: that two things happening differently changed the entire outcome of
- 26:14Speaker 2: that game. Two things really right. But I am so
- 26:18Speaker 2: excited to watch these two young quarterbacks go back and forth. Obviously,
- 26:26Speaker 2: JJ great amazing fourth quarter ride that into this game.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Pennix Junior did something I tried to do for six years.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Very impressive, and so they're gonna be throwing haymakers at
- 26:39Speaker 2: each other back and forth. I think this is going
- 26:42Speaker 2: to be such a good game. And then not to
- 26:45Speaker 2: mention the fact that Jared Allen enters the ring of
- 26:51Speaker 2: Ring of Fame.
- 26:52Speaker 1: The Ring of well, no, he's in the Ring of Honor,
- 26:55Speaker 1: but he got he's getting his There's gonna be a
- 26:58Speaker 1: Hall of Fame ceremony for him, which is going to
- 27:00Speaker 1: be excellent.
- 27:01Speaker 2: That's what it is. Even better, Okay, great.
- 27:04Speaker 1: I love it. I love how you tried to get
- 27:07Speaker 1: there and almost got there.
- 27:09Speaker 2: I like to combine a bunch of things I don't
- 27:11Speaker 2: know much about and just hope.
- 27:13Speaker 1: But if you say it right and you're a charming guy,
- 27:16Speaker 1: it really lands. Right now, let me before we get
- 27:19Speaker 1: to Jared Allen, because we can talk about Jared Allen here,
- 27:22Speaker 1: but let's talk for a minute about how right the
- 27:24Speaker 1: daddies were last week. All we did was tell you
- 27:28Speaker 1: how pumped we were about Jordan Mason, and all he
- 27:31Speaker 1: did was thunder rumble important runs in week one, Chad,
- 27:38Speaker 1: not only am I pumped about obviously how intelligent you
- 27:42Speaker 1: know we said we're not going to do x's and o's.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Maybe that was a mistake. Goddamn with how great we
- 27:47Speaker 1: were with this Jordan Mason discussion last week. Sure, but
- 27:51Speaker 1: I will say one of the things that I thought
- 27:54Speaker 1: was really promising from week one going into week two
- 27:58Speaker 1: is kind of the forced or non forced depth success where.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Eric Wilson have two words for you, Eric Wilson.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Yes, and Cashman when he went out last year, we
- 28:12Speaker 1: really had a hard time with that. So having some
- 28:14Speaker 1: depth there where that guy played so great excellent. Having
- 28:19Speaker 1: Thelan play well and clearly continuing to develop his rapport
- 28:23Speaker 1: with JJ excellent. The Jordan Mason thing, just the idea
- 28:27Speaker 1: that when when Aaron Jones was able to come in
- 28:31Speaker 1: on that touchdown route and that big run late for
- 28:33Speaker 1: nine yards and be immensely fresh like I saw in
- 28:37Speaker 1: week one Week fourteen of those two guys, you know.
- 28:41Speaker 2: H it was incredible. When THELAN dropped a pass and
- 28:45Speaker 2: I saw on his face as he was running off,
- 28:47Speaker 2: I go, I don't think he'll drop a pass the
- 28:49Speaker 2: rest of the year. He had that look week fourteen.
- 28:54Speaker 2: I don't know, Super Bowl game, whatever you want to
- 28:56Speaker 2: talk about, but.
- 28:56Speaker 1: What's however deep you want to go, How fun is
- 28:59Speaker 1: it to like this is the first year I was like,
- 29:01Speaker 1: oh yeah, punt returners can go forward.
- 29:05Speaker 2: This punt returner kid.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Dude. I think I saw in in uh Kot's postgame
- 29:13Speaker 1: speech that he had like over one hundred, one hundred and.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Seven and seventeen yards.
- 29:17Speaker 1: One hundred and seventeen return yards and they were all huge, right,
- 29:20Speaker 1: they were so like I remember, I'm a little bit
- 29:24Speaker 1: of buddies with Marcus Chryls from back in the day.
- 29:28Speaker 1: I just remember the feeling every time a punt got
- 29:33Speaker 1: thumped up into the air, you went, who knows right?
- 29:36Speaker 1: And I feel that that is that is gonna be
- 29:39Speaker 1: one of my big watchers for the first six weeks
- 29:41Speaker 1: was that first game. You know, you get what you
- 29:45Speaker 1: or are we are we gonna work into this era
- 29:49Speaker 1: of like, oh my god, we might get a couple
- 29:52Speaker 1: of return touchdown.
- 29:53Speaker 2: That kid can scoot man man.
- 29:56Speaker 1: And it just it just seemed like the way he
- 29:58Speaker 1: caught the ball, assesses and then makes a directional change,
- 30:04Speaker 1: like where so often you've seen a guy like okay,
- 30:06Speaker 1: he ran his five yards. Now he gets hit and
- 30:08Speaker 1: then and he's gone another seventeen excellent. Yeah. The other thing,
- 30:15Speaker 1: speaking of the Pennix and JJ thing, you know, very
- 30:19Speaker 1: close and picks, I think a lot of people thought
- 30:21Speaker 1: you know, the Falcons thing didn't happen. They were going
- 30:23Speaker 1: to be the two guys on the board. The Vikings
- 30:25Speaker 1: were going to be choosing between the thing that I
- 30:30Speaker 1: heard Aaron Jones say to I believe Ben Lieber after
- 30:37Speaker 1: the end of so and this is not you know,
- 30:39Speaker 1: this is a guy who's been one of the better
- 30:42Speaker 1: players in the league for a long time, played with
- 30:44Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers, has played with some significant football players and leaders.
- 30:50Speaker 1: He said, in the fourth quarter, when they were down
- 30:53Speaker 1: seventeen to six or whatever, they're all huddling up, and
- 30:56Speaker 1: clearly JJ's the guy who's been struggling. It's not like
- 30:58Speaker 1: I don't think anyone in the stadium or on the
- 31:01Speaker 1: field didn't understand that. Not that everybody wasn't playing a role,
- 31:05Speaker 1: but I think everybody knew that's what was happening. He said.
- 31:08Speaker 1: He came into the huddle, looked around at everybody and goes, hey,
- 31:12Speaker 1: is there any place you'd rather be? Like the sort
- 31:14Speaker 1: of thing, wow, the sort of thing that somebody would
- 31:19Speaker 1: have to say to a young quarterback to get them going,
- 31:22Speaker 1: And the way he spoke about it in that interview
- 31:24Speaker 1: didn't feel cliche. It's like all these things we've heard
- 31:28Speaker 1: behind closed doors about this kid having like the special
- 31:32Speaker 1: genuine leadership. It was just it was interesting to see
- 31:36Speaker 1: Aaron Jones speak about that in a non fake way.
- 31:42Speaker 1: And then I'll be like, I don't know as anticipated
- 31:48Speaker 1: as Week one was, given how odd that game finished,
- 31:52Speaker 1: I think this is going to be the most anticipated
- 31:57Speaker 1: Viking quarterback start since Brett and before that. I think
- 32:02Speaker 1: this is above Dante's first. I think I don't know
- 32:05Speaker 1: how far you have to go back, probably to Tarkenton.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Maybe I'm not as.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Old because this is this is a huge prove it moment.
- 32:13Speaker 2: This is a we got to see something really special.
- 32:18Speaker 2: But now you know we're still Minnesota sports fans, so
- 32:21Speaker 2: you go prove it.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Yeah, well we're damaged.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Save us. Yeah, looking looking around at all these veterans
- 32:30Speaker 2: and you're the new guy, and you go, is there
- 32:32Speaker 2: any place you'd rather be? That's something I would see
- 32:35Speaker 2: in a movie that would make me talk in a
- 32:37Speaker 2: movie theater, like I would get up and throw some
- 32:40Speaker 2: liquors at the screen and be like, there is no
- 32:42Speaker 2: other place I would want to be, and everybody be
- 32:44Speaker 2: like shit, am I no, you shut up? We're here.
- 32:48Speaker 2: I mean, that's that is that jacks me up.
- 32:50Speaker 1: It jacks me up. I'm very jacked up. Now, before
- 32:54Speaker 1: we do predictions, Before we do predictions, let's talk Jared Allen. So,
- 33:01Speaker 1: speaking of guys who jack you up, yeh boy goes
- 33:06Speaker 1: into the Hall of Fame this summer and they are
- 33:09Speaker 1: doing a halftime ceremony celebrating his Hall of Fame induction.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Ring of fame they call it. It's a new thing.
- 33:19Speaker 1: You keep doing that. There's a ring of honor. You're
- 33:22Speaker 1: you're all over the mat, man, and I need you
- 33:24Speaker 1: to get in the map and on the map.
- 33:26Speaker 2: I just want it to be right. I want to
- 33:27Speaker 2: say it enough until it's right.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Yeah, but I do think that's how things seem to
- 33:32Speaker 1: work in our society, So I would keep pushing that.
- 33:34Speaker 1: I the we were lucky enough if we did a
- 33:39Speaker 1: documentary on him that's coming out If this is Thursday,
- 33:43Speaker 1: it's coming out Friday tomorrow, about him and his father
- 33:49Speaker 1: and his grandfather, and like, you know, so much of
- 33:52Speaker 1: the stuff that's done about Jared Allen is about this big,
- 33:55Speaker 1: gregarious personality about you know, he was on Jackass and
- 33:58Speaker 1: he's funny and all these commercials. He's just just this
- 34:01Speaker 1: really lovable guy. But the story is about his family
- 34:06Speaker 1: lineage and how the role that it played in guiding
- 34:11Speaker 1: and changing and helping his life at the most important
- 34:13Speaker 1: moment in his career, and what it turned him into
- 34:17Speaker 1: as a man. It's called the Allen Name. It's on YouTube.
- 34:21Speaker 1: But it was really interesting to get to spend time
- 34:23Speaker 1: with him and his dad and see that side. When
- 34:29Speaker 1: you know, my whole life, you're just used to the
- 34:31Speaker 1: funniest maniac like on Field maniac of all time.
- 34:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I mean, I don't know that there's
- 34:39Speaker 2: anyone within our age range that didn't. You know, if
- 34:46Speaker 2: if you ever were running through an airport and somebody
- 34:50Speaker 2: ran into you and they fell down, you had to
- 34:54Speaker 2: get down in hog time, you had to. There was
- 34:57Speaker 2: no other way around it. And so you know, he's
- 35:00Speaker 2: inspired an entire generation of hog tires. And I just
- 35:04Speaker 2: think that, you know, you have this documentary coming out
- 35:08Speaker 2: about his grandfather and his father and what really as
- 35:11Speaker 2: a dad. What got to me was when he does
- 35:14Speaker 2: say it, basically say.
- 35:15Speaker 1: It, are you doing the reveal? Are you telling what's happening?
- 35:18Speaker 1: Were you going to ruin the movie?
- 35:20Speaker 2: No, I was going to talk about his induction speech.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Oh yeah, great, So what are you talking about? When
- 35:26Speaker 1: he talks about his kids in his induction speech.
- 35:29Speaker 2: He looks right at his daughters and he basically tunes
- 35:33Speaker 2: everybody else out and just talks to them, And I
- 35:35Speaker 2: thought that was really cool.
- 35:37Speaker 1: It's it was, It's a really really great speech. We
- 35:41Speaker 1: also in the process learned that he is so the
- 35:45Speaker 1: year that he almost broke the sack record, the NFL
- 35:48Speaker 1: took a sack away from him where they called it
- 35:52Speaker 1: a muff and a team sack, and Aaron Rodgers went
- 35:57Speaker 1: on record on camera in a video did about him,
- 36:00Speaker 1: you know, just right before the Hall of Fame, saying nope,
- 36:03Speaker 1: I wasn't going to throw it. You tackle me. It
- 36:05Speaker 1: was a sack. So technically I am of the belief
- 36:09Speaker 1: that Jared Allen is the all time NFL sack leader.
- 36:13Speaker 1: You can you can find that video on YouTube as well,
- 36:15Speaker 1: really pushing stuff, really really plugging. Towards the end of
- 36:20Speaker 1: that show, let's do let's do predictions. We'll do a
- 36:24Speaker 1: team a player and you. That's how we're doing him
- 36:27Speaker 1: this year. Team prediction, a player prediction and you. Now
- 36:32Speaker 1: last week you took feeling and he didn't get the touchdown.
- 36:35Speaker 1: But he did have a huge two point conversion, so
- 36:39Speaker 1: you gotta feel good about that one. And I think
- 36:42Speaker 1: I took Jordan Mason, didn't I? And if not, I
- 36:44Speaker 1: want to pretend I did to have a good game.
- 36:48Speaker 1: But let's let's what are you thinking?
- 36:51Speaker 2: Okay, team Viking win. Okay by ten it's a Viking
- 36:57Speaker 2: win by ten points. I'm going to go player, I'm
- 37:01Speaker 2: gonna go. Hawkinson goes for over eighty and has a touchdown,
- 37:07Speaker 2: and then personally, I'm going to I'm going to enjoy
- 37:14Speaker 2: every time the camera guy cuts to the sideline. How
- 37:18Speaker 2: about you?
- 37:20Speaker 1: Here's the just such a such a non descript petty individual.
- 37:28Speaker 2: So I'm not a petty do it? I know?
- 37:30Speaker 1: And I shouldn't have said that.
- 37:31Speaker 2: I shouldn't have said that.
- 37:32Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 37:33Speaker 2: I know. That's Those are my predictions.
- 37:35Speaker 1: You ask for your predictions, Those are your predictions. I
- 37:40Speaker 1: I got Vikings one hundred and twenty seven, Falcons nine
- 37:45Speaker 1: to fourteen, somewhere in that range. They might get up
- 37:47Speaker 1: to seventeen. I'm not exactly sure. You know, the quarterback
- 37:50Speaker 1: Jean Robinson's very good. I am gonna go. I'm gonna
- 37:54Speaker 1: go that we are going to get a much more
- 37:57Speaker 1: significant ground game from Aaron Jones. I think we're gonna
- 38:00Speaker 1: keep people on their heres. They go, oh my god,
- 38:02Speaker 1: we gotta worry about Jordan Mason. Then blamo, oh, here
- 38:04Speaker 1: comes Aaron Jones with a bunch of nine yard runs.
- 38:07Speaker 1: And then I just think you never never know what
- 38:10Speaker 1: you're gonna get. And then from a personal prediction standpoint,
- 38:13Speaker 1: I think there's no way I keep up my chill
- 38:15Speaker 1: attitude from week one.
- 38:17Speaker 2: No chance.
- 38:18Speaker 1: And I'm gonna have to stay off of all social
- 38:21Speaker 1: media because I think if and when JJ plays more
- 38:24Speaker 1: like the fourth quarter than the first three quarters, I
- 38:27Speaker 1: think our state and community is going to They've already
- 38:32Speaker 1: lost it. They've already the place is ballistic right now,
- 38:37Speaker 1: and I think I think if I get caught up
- 38:40Speaker 1: in that and I'm texting with you, I just think
- 38:44Speaker 1: that could put me in a really unhealthy communication place
- 38:49Speaker 1: on Sunday where I just get too pumped and then
- 38:51Speaker 1: too devastated, and then too pumped and too devastated.
- 38:54Speaker 2: So I just well, I have a great solution for you, Okay,
- 39:00Speaker 2: get it.
