- 0:48Speaker 1: This portion of the show is brought to you by
- 0:50Speaker 1: Cajun Paradise Charters because we are presenting Lord Howard's cop today.
- 0:58Speaker 3: It's engraved. It's ready.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Joseph, step up to that microphone right there and talk
- 1:03Speaker 1: right into that area. That's yeah, there we go, Joseph.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Is that trophy just overwhelming now that you see it? Yes,
- 1:16Speaker 1: you're shocked, You're stunned, you're amazed. How long have you
- 1:21Speaker 1: been playing uh Friday's Fearless.
- 1:24Speaker 4: I guess since twenty seventeen.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Wow, okay, so a while. Have you been close before?
- 1:31Speaker 4: No?
- 1:32Speaker 3: No, no, So what was the secret sauce this year?
- 1:35Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I just got luckyh you? No, no, you You beat
- 1:41Speaker 1: out thousands of your fellow uh townspeople to win this trophy.
- 1:47Speaker 6: What do you get?
- 1:47Speaker 3: You have twenty four hours, that's the tradition.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Uh what are you going to do with this trophy?
- 1:53Speaker 1: Where are you taking it?
- 1:55Speaker 4: I'm gonna get called my brother up, have him come
- 1:58Speaker 4: to the house because he.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Was playing all oh beautiful and you're just you're gonna
- 2:03Speaker 1: throw it right in his face.
- 2:07Speaker 3: I don't know. I don't know.
- 2:08Speaker 1: You may have to charge for to do that. What
- 2:12Speaker 1: what was what was the key? How did you pick
- 2:15Speaker 1: games this year? What day of the week did you
- 2:17Speaker 1: pick on?
- 2:19Speaker 3: Okay?
- 2:20Speaker 4: Uh?
- 2:20Speaker 1: Huh okay and you go back? Uh do you do
- 2:26Speaker 1: you have any idea? How often you change picks during
- 2:29Speaker 1: the season?
- 2:30Speaker 4: Once every week?
- 2:31Speaker 3: Once a week? You change the team? Right right?
- 2:34Speaker 6: Right?
- 2:35Speaker 3: Well it worked, man.
- 2:37Speaker 1: You beat everybody out, you beat you beat some former
- 2:40Speaker 1: winners out.
- 2:42Speaker 3: You killed me. I was terrible this year.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Hey, uh, thank you for playing. I think we got
- 2:51Speaker 1: your name spelled right on the trophy. I sure hope
- 2:54Speaker 1: we did. How do we do excellent?
- 2:57Speaker 3: Uh?
- 2:58Speaker 1: So you have a great time with that trophy. We'll
- 3:01Speaker 1: see you tomorrow, and thanks for playing, Joseph. Yeah, you're welcome.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Joseph Magdea is this year's Friday's Fearless Football Forecast winner,
- 3:12Speaker 1: so you too can be a player next year. I mean,
- 3:17Speaker 1: this is a contest that's been going on since the
- 3:20Speaker 1: late fifties. It's the oldest trophy, the most venerated trophy
- 3:25Speaker 1: in all of sports, and Joseph has his hands on
- 3:29Speaker 1: it now. And I never did think through what would
- 3:34Speaker 1: happen if I never saw that trophy again. But everybody's
- 3:39Speaker 1: always brought it back because we threw all the cheaters
- 3:43Speaker 1: out early in the season. The cheaters I'd hesitate to
- 3:47Speaker 1: give the trophy to. But my winners now they'll do that.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Aggie Baseball six o'clock, Olson Field, A him Corpus is
- 3:59Speaker 1: in town. So we've got that going on for us,
- 4:04Speaker 1: which is nice. We will have that game for you
- 4:08Speaker 1: beginning at five forty five this afternoon. I'm trying to
- 4:15Speaker 1: see third rank Tennessee is playing this afternoon, hosting Ashville
- 4:21Speaker 1: sixteenth rank Old miss is hosting Arkansas State. Number three
- 4:25Speaker 1: Mississippi State is hosting Troy. Number two Texas is hosting Lamar.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Twelfth rank Florida is visiting Stetson. Fifth ranked Auburn is
- 4:37Speaker 1: hosting Cincinnati. So we got that going for us. Tony Clark,
- 4:43Speaker 1: head of the Major League Baseball Players Association, is expected
- 4:48Speaker 1: to resign after twelve years at the Helm. It's been
- 4:55Speaker 1: brewing for a while. The Athletics said that Clark MLBPA
- 5:01Speaker 1: hired separate lawyers and response to a federal investigation about
- 5:06Speaker 1: whether the association used licensing money or equity to improperly
- 5:12Speaker 1: enrich themselves. It's a bad time for the union because
- 5:17Speaker 1: collective bargaining agreement ends at the end of the season.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Reports are it's going to be ugly. Mike Elko got
- 5:28Speaker 1: a new contract and that was announced, but what was
- 5:34Speaker 1: not announced were the terms of the contract. Elco will
- 5:39Speaker 1: make over sixty nine million dollars during the course of
- 5:43Speaker 1: the contract. That's without the bonuses his base salary this
- 5:49Speaker 1: year this coming year ten point seven five million dollars
- 5:53Speaker 1: will increase by three hundred thousand each year of the
- 5:58Speaker 1: contract term through twenty thirty one. He also got more
- 6:03Speaker 1: for assistant coaches. He will be and one year add on.
- 6:11Speaker 1: For each nine win season, he will get an extra
- 6:14Speaker 1: year of the contract, so he will be the sixth
- 6:20Speaker 1: highest paid coach in major college football. With his new contract,
- 6:25Speaker 1: Texas has requested to cancel its future home and home
- 6:30Speaker 1: series against Arizona State, which was to be in Tempe
- 6:36Speaker 1: in twenty thirty two, with a return trip to Austin.
- 6:40Speaker 1: ASU announced a home and home series with Stanford. The
- 6:45Speaker 1: cancelation not unexpected as the SEC goes to a nine
- 6:51Speaker 1: game schedule. Florida also canceled Arizona State and LSU canceled
- 6:58Speaker 1: Arizona State. It seems like everybody wanted to play Arizona State.
- 7:03Speaker 1: But that was before last year when Skataboo almost beat
- 7:07Speaker 1: Texas single handedly in the playoffs. That seems like a
- 7:11Speaker 1: long time ago now, doesn't it. Let's see, We've got
- 7:15Speaker 1: SEC basketball tonight, South Carolina at Florida, Georgia at Kentucky,
- 7:22Speaker 1: LSU at Texas, the Aggies host Ole Miss tomorrow night
- 7:28Speaker 1: at six. We will hear from Bucky coming up. Marcus
- 7:35Speaker 1: Hill also coming up. Last night, A phantom kick ball
- 7:42Speaker 1: call on Jojo Tugler, with Houston leading sixty three fifty
- 7:47Speaker 1: five with six minutes to play, turned the game around,
- 7:52Speaker 1: started a nine nothing Iowa State run, and Iowa State
- 7:58Speaker 1: took down number two Houston seventy to sixty seven with
- 8:03Speaker 1: a little bit of Hilton magic last night. This weekend,
- 8:09Speaker 1: Houston hosts Arizona. It doesn't get any easier in the
- 8:15Speaker 1: Big twelve. Michigan's at Purdue tonight. North Carolina. North Carolina
- 8:21Speaker 1: State that's on ESPN should.
- 8:24Speaker 4: Be a good game.
- 8:25Speaker 1: So should Louisville and SMU UCLA is at Michigan State.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Texas Tech is visiting Arizona State. Jerome Tang says ESPN
- 8:37Speaker 1: will fight Kansas State's firing for cause. He is owed
- 8:43Speaker 1: eighteen and two thirds million dollars for the remainder of
- 8:48Speaker 1: his contract. He told ESPN, I'm deeply disappointed with the
- 8:53Speaker 1: university's decision and strongly disagree with the characterization of my termination.
- 9:00Speaker 1: And I've always acted with integrity and faithfully fulfill my
- 9:04Speaker 1: responsibilities at head coach.
- 9:08Speaker 3: We shall see what happens.
- 9:09Speaker 1: My guess is they'll be a negotiated settlement, or they
- 9:14Speaker 1: may hold out.
- 9:15Speaker 3: He's hired some power lawyers.
- 9:17Speaker 1: And I haven't heard anybody that said Kansas State has
- 9:23Speaker 1: cause to fire him and not pay off the contract.
- 9:28Speaker 1: The Winter Olympics are continuing. The US women's hockey team
- 9:34Speaker 1: will take on Canada at high noon tomorrow for the gold.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Pressure continues to mount for Casey Wasserman to leave as
- 9:44Speaker 1: the head of the twenty twenty eight LA Olympic organizing
- 9:48Speaker 1: Committee after the city's mayor urged him to step down
- 9:53Speaker 1: because of his ties to Jeffrey Epstein's former girlfriend, Gallaine Maxwell,
- 10:00Speaker 1: who is here in a Brian prison. LA mayor Karen
- 10:04Speaker 1: Bass telling CNN, my opinion is that he should step down.
- 10:09Speaker 1: The issue has been a distraction for the International Olympics
- 10:14Speaker 1: Committee since Wasserman's flirtatious emails with Maxwell were published in
- 10:22Speaker 1: release of the US government files, and ask if he
- 10:28Speaker 1: is ruling out playing this year's Masters, Tiger Woods said
- 10:33Speaker 1: today no, Tiger is hosting the Genesis Invitational. He says
- 10:41Speaker 1: he is at least eyeing Augusta. I'm trying to come
- 10:45Speaker 1: back put it that way. The disc replacement has been
- 10:49Speaker 1: one thing. It's been a challenge to I've had a
- 10:52Speaker 1: fuse back and now a disreplacement is challenging, and now
- 10:57Speaker 1: I entered a new decade, meaning he just turn fifty,
- 11:01Speaker 1: So that number starting to sync in has us thinking
- 11:05Speaker 1: about the opportunity to be able to play in a cart.
- 11:09Speaker 1: That's something, as I said, I won't do on the
- 11:11Speaker 1: PGA Tour, I don't believe in it, but on the
- 11:14Speaker 1: Champions Tour, there's certainly an opportunity. Woods announces past October,
- 11:21Speaker 1: he and went another back surgery to replace a collapse
- 11:26Speaker 1: lombard disc. The procedure came as he was already recovering
- 11:31Speaker 1: from a torn achilles, which required surgery that caused him
- 11:36Speaker 1: to miss all of last season. Tiger has had a
- 11:41Speaker 1: lot of surgery. He is an old fifty year old,
- 11:48Speaker 1: but he's Tiger. So we'll see. We are going to
- 11:55Speaker 1: hear from Mike Elko. We've got a high school report.
- 12:00Speaker 3: We're going to hear from Bucky Mallory is here.
- 12:04Speaker 1: We're gonna hear from Marcus Hill, all of that before
- 12:08Speaker 1: Aggie Baseball at five forty five. This portion of the
- 12:14Speaker 1: program is brought to you by former Friday's Fearless winner

- 13:53Speaker 9: war is over? And the dream of peace comes through?
- 13:58Speaker 9: But I'll be dragging that bubble up and eating letter rainbows. Dude,
- 14:03Speaker 9: when if I'm out how to burn the water and

- 14:08Speaker 5: You know?
- 14:08Speaker 3: I feel like.
- 14:11Speaker 1: This is the theme song for every political advertisement we're

- 14:32Speaker 3: that free.

- 14:43Speaker 1: we will hear from Steve Denton. We have moved the

- 14:51Speaker 1: I hope it will be easier on everyone's schedule. Scott

- 16:17Speaker 1: Besides that we will have postgame on A and M
- 16:20Speaker 1: game Wednesday night. Caleb will have a high school report
- 16:24Speaker 1: on Thursday as well on Friday. My weekly visit with
- 16:29Speaker 1: Kurt Bowls of the Houston Chronicle. Okay, Yesterday Mike Elko
- 16:36Speaker 1: had basically a preview of twenty twenty six, a pre
- 16:41Speaker 1: spring practice preview, a post signing preview. He answered lots
- 16:47Speaker 1: of questions and keep in mind that when he was
- 16:53Speaker 1: visiting with reporters, the terms of his contract had not
- 16:57Speaker 1: yet been released. They were later released late yesterday afternoon
- 17:04Speaker 1: and evening. Okay, here is part of coach Elco which
- 17:09Speaker 1: you heard live by the way yesterday on the Zone.
- 17:12Speaker 10: Thought it'd be good to just kind of get back
- 17:14Speaker 10: and reset things as we kind of get started with
- 17:17Speaker 10: the twenty twenty sixth version of this football program. Feels
- 17:20Speaker 10: like it's been a whirlwind since the Miami Game of Retention,
- 17:25Speaker 10: portal recruiting, high school recruiting, trying to get everybody here
- 17:28Speaker 10: and situated, and felt like it kind of finally slowed
- 17:32Speaker 10: down a little bit, so to take a minute and
- 17:33Speaker 10: get in front of everybody and just kind of reset
- 17:36Speaker 10: where we are as we head into the off season.
- 17:39Speaker 11: Excited about what we did, excited about what we added,
- 17:42Speaker 11: Excited about kind of the direction that the program continues
- 17:45Speaker 11: to head and trend in, and so we're excited to
- 17:48Speaker 11: kick off this new season. I think it was probably
- 17:51Speaker 11: a little bit busier off season than we've had recently
- 17:54Speaker 11: when you add the coaching changes and the different pieces,
- 17:57Speaker 11: and so just to kind of reset where we got
- 17:59Speaker 11: to offensively this offseason we wound up bringing in seven transfers,
- 18:05Speaker 11: twelve high school kids enrolled midyear.
- 18:08Speaker 10: We have Evan Jacobson who'll be joining us in the spring.
- 18:11Speaker 10: That's the one freshman who didn't make it. He's going
- 18:14Speaker 10: to go try to win a state championship in basketball
- 18:16Speaker 10: to finish out his high school career, and then he'll.
- 18:18Speaker 6: Join us in the end of May.
- 18:21Speaker 10: From a coaching standpoint, obviously we've discussed the Holman move.
- 18:25Speaker 10: Joey Lynch is going to take over at quarterback. John
- 18:28Speaker 10: Perry is going to move into more of an accelerated
- 18:31Speaker 10: role with the wide receivers with the Obviously Holman will
- 18:33Speaker 10: still play a role in that as well. We were
- 18:36Speaker 10: able to bring in Derek Shay to work with the
- 18:38Speaker 10: tight ends, and then just a couple of additional additions,
- 18:42Speaker 10: we were able to bring Rich Scrotsky in to kind
- 18:45Speaker 10: of take over Joey's role working with the running backs,
- 18:48Speaker 10: doing some of the advanced scouting in the running game.
- 18:50Speaker 10: Rich was with us at Duke, phenomenal football mind. He'll
- 18:53Speaker 10: do a great job in that role. We went out
- 18:56Speaker 10: and hand hired Drew Hollingshead, obviously, who you guys know
- 18:59Speaker 10: the name very well. Spent some time here with his dad,
- 19:02Speaker 10: Tam when I was here as a defensive coordinator, a
- 19:04Speaker 10: legendary high school coach. I think Drew will kind of
- 19:07Speaker 10: slide into that advanced passing game role that John Perry
- 19:11Speaker 10: kind of did last year. And so it's just kind
- 19:14Speaker 10: of as we move guys up, making sure that we're
- 19:17Speaker 10: kind of replacing the full complement.
- 19:19Speaker 6: Of the staff.
- 19:19Speaker 10: And then the one other guy that we added that
- 19:22Speaker 10: kind of went under the radar a little bit as
- 19:23Speaker 10: Brad Cornelson. Brad was with Coach Wiggins at Alabama, had
- 19:28Speaker 10: kind of moved into a high school coaching role in Oklahoma,
- 19:31Speaker 10: and he's another guy that we kind of added into
- 19:33Speaker 10: an off the field role, just a guy who has
- 19:36Speaker 10: a lot of background in what we're trying to do,
- 19:38Speaker 10: is kind of specialized in quarterbacks, and so just another
- 19:42Speaker 10: experienced veteran to kind of bring into that room. Defensively,
- 19:46Speaker 10: we went out and we hired, We brought in ten transfers,
- 19:49Speaker 10: thirteen high school players, and so again kind of the
- 19:53Speaker 10: retool and also the stocking of the young talent, making
- 19:56Speaker 10: sure that we're doing both of those things. Recently voted
- 20:00Speaker 10: Brian gross Armiento to corners, thought that was something that
- 20:04Speaker 10: he was ready for it. It was the right time for
- 20:06Speaker 10: him to move into that role. Obviously, a kid very
- 20:09Speaker 10: familiar with our system is not a kid anymore. He
- 20:11Speaker 10: played for me, so I was calling the kid, but
- 20:14Speaker 10: a young coach who's ready for that role moving into
- 20:16Speaker 10: that role.
- 20:17Speaker 6: He'll do a phenomenal job.
- 20:19Speaker 10: He has done a great job recruiting and really kind
- 20:21Speaker 10: of stepped into that leadership role as we were transitioning
- 20:24Speaker 10: through trying to figure out the right move and ultimately
- 20:27Speaker 10: kind of made it really clear that it should be him.
- 20:30Speaker 10: It was great to get Elijah Robinson back, obviously a
- 20:33Speaker 10: name everybody's familiar with.
- 20:34Speaker 6: But excited to add him back to the staff.
- 20:36Speaker 10: And then bringing t will in from Arkansas to kind
- 20:40Speaker 10: of work with the linebackers. I think gives us another
- 20:42Speaker 10: guy with a lot of juice, a lot of energy,
- 20:46Speaker 10: and that'll be good.
- 20:46Speaker 6: And then again the off the field positions that are
- 20:49Speaker 6: critical to what we're doing.
- 20:51Speaker 10: We were able to bring Zax Barber in to kind
- 20:52Speaker 10: of work with the linebackers, a guy who was with
- 20:55Speaker 10: us at Duke coach linebackers at JMU for coach Hemphill.
- 20:58Speaker 10: Most recently was the coach defensive coordinator at Rutgers, and
- 21:01Speaker 10: so to get him into an off the field position
- 21:04Speaker 10: I think is a tremendous addition. And then I don't
- 21:07Speaker 10: know if this one even has gone public yet, but
- 21:09Speaker 10: we brought in Paul Williams and experienced secondary coach from
- 21:12Speaker 10: Stanford to kind of work in that Nickels role that
- 21:16Speaker 10: BGA had kind of worked through, but just a little
- 21:18Speaker 10: bit more experienced guy to put into that secondary room
- 21:21Speaker 10: so we can keep the balance the right way. And
- 21:24Speaker 10: then in special teams, there was a big off season
- 21:27Speaker 10: for us there as well. We added five specialists, two transfers,
- 21:29Speaker 10: three high school kids in the midyear and so just
- 21:32Speaker 10: kind of retooling and revamping that room. And then also
- 21:36Speaker 10: went out and hired Tony Thompson to be a special
- 21:39Speaker 10: teams analyst to work alongside coach Dougherty. And coach Thompson
- 21:42Speaker 10: joins us from Purdue, where he served in a similar
- 21:45Speaker 10: role the last couple of years at Purdue in West Virginia.
- 21:48Speaker 6: And so it's been a retooling of the staff.
- 21:50Speaker 10: The roster feels like we've done a lot, but it
- 21:54Speaker 10: feels like now we're finally stable and kind of ready
- 21:57Speaker 10: to roll as we move forward and so excited about
- 21:59Speaker 10: what we are, excited about where we're headed.
- 22:01Speaker 6: And from there, I'll just kind of let you guys
- 22:03Speaker 6: ask what's on your mind? Coach, We'll go to the left, Rob,
- 22:07Speaker 6: how do you coach?
- 22:08Speaker 12: If I hand you a list of the portal kids,
- 22:10Speaker 12: would you mind stand a few words about each one
- 22:12Speaker 12: of them?
- 22:12Speaker 10: I think you know the answer to that. No, No,
- 22:17Speaker 10: I'm not going through every port of kids. If there's
- 22:19Speaker 10: any in particular.
- 22:20Speaker 6: About to ask about offensive linemen that you added them.
- 22:23Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, I think you know. We were in a
- 22:25Speaker 10: couple of unique spots. I think you know, we kind
- 22:27Speaker 10: of talked about this hopefully being the last year that
- 22:29Speaker 10: we're in this situation with the Portal where there's still
- 22:33Speaker 10: some holes in the upper part of our roster from
- 22:36Speaker 10: the transition era and the smaller recruiting class that was
- 22:40Speaker 10: here when I kind of took over some of the
- 22:42Speaker 10: kids that had gone in and out, And so we
- 22:44Speaker 10: looked at our roster and we had Mark Neebou coming back,
- 22:46Speaker 10: and outside of that, the oldest offensive lineman we had
- 22:50Speaker 10: was sophomore in eligibility, and so we felt like it
- 22:52Speaker 10: was important for us to just go out and get
- 22:55Speaker 10: some experienced competition to bring into that group, and I
- 22:59Speaker 10: think we're able to do that. I think we added
- 23:00Speaker 10: two edge guys and will conform being Tyree Adams, two
- 23:04Speaker 10: kids who've played a lot of football in the SEC,
- 23:06Speaker 10: really talented kids. Really excited about both of those additions.
- 23:10Speaker 10: And then to get Cohen Echles back, a kid who
- 23:14Speaker 10: started some games in the interior of the offensive line,
- 23:16Speaker 10: obviously a kid that we were familiar with here, tried
- 23:19Speaker 10: to retain in the class when I got hired, and
- 23:22Speaker 10: ultimately able to get him back now. And then to
- 23:25Speaker 10: go able to go out and get Trevon Ball who
- 23:27Speaker 10: started a lot of games in the inside offensive line
- 23:29Speaker 10: in South Carolina, kid that we tried really hard to
- 23:31Speaker 10: get a duke, had a really good relationship with him
- 23:34Speaker 10: and his family. And again another just experienced SEC guy
- 23:38Speaker 10: to bring in. So that those young talented kids that
- 23:41Speaker 10: we believe are going to be really good players will
- 23:44Speaker 10: go out and compete and the best guys will play.
- 23:47Speaker 10: That will always be the case, but we just felt
- 23:49Speaker 10: like there was an upper class experience gap that we
- 23:52Speaker 10: needed to fill, which.
- 23:53Speaker 6: We'll go over to the right second road.
- 23:55Speaker 13: David two part question how much pride do you take
- 23:58Speaker 13: in getting thirteen guys about it to the Combine and
- 24:00Speaker 13: what this program is trying to do. And then also
- 24:03Speaker 13: with the spring here, how important is it for guys
- 24:05Speaker 13: to step up this spring to replace that veteran leadership.
- 24:08Speaker 10: Yeah, I think that's you know, we talked a lot
- 24:10Speaker 10: about that being the mock the mark for this program, right,
- 24:14Speaker 10: needing to have more NFL guys. You know, we spend
- 24:16Speaker 10: a lot of time talking about high school rankings and
- 24:19Speaker 10: high school ratings and stars and this, that and the other.
- 24:22Speaker 10: But at the end of the day, for us to
- 24:24Speaker 10: be the program what we want to be, we've got
- 24:26Speaker 10: to be a team that's consistently producing NFL football players
- 24:29Speaker 10: because that means we have some of the most talented
- 24:32Speaker 10: football players in the country playing for us at the end.
- 24:34Speaker 6: Of their career, right, And that's really really important.
- 24:37Speaker 10: And so to get the most guys in the country
- 24:40Speaker 10: invited to the Combine, the most that we've had I
- 24:42Speaker 10: think in forever, if I'm not mistaken, you know, those
- 24:46Speaker 10: are markers, right, and then hopefully that capitalizes in the
- 24:49Speaker 10: draft where it projects that we'll have more kids drafted
- 24:52Speaker 10: than we've had since nineteen seventy one. Those are all
- 24:55Speaker 10: tremendous indicators of the talent we're bringing into the program,
- 25:00Speaker 10: NFL development that's happening in the program, I think all
- 25:03Speaker 10: of that, the retention, I just think those are good
- 25:06Speaker 10: markers for everything that we're doing. And then you know,
- 25:10Speaker 10: the next step of being a really good program is
- 25:12Speaker 10: that's got to be every year, right, and so that's
- 25:15Speaker 10: got to be if you look around the country at
- 25:18Speaker 10: the teams that are really good, really consistently, that's the markers,
- 25:22Speaker 10: and then they all leave and the next wave steps up, right,
- 25:25Speaker 10: so that at this time next year, we're talking about
- 25:28Speaker 10: double digit kids at the combine, potentially double digit kids
- 25:31Speaker 10: getting drafted. And that's the need for kids to step up,
- 25:35Speaker 10: Phil Rolls, that's why you have to go out and
- 25:38Speaker 10: get some older guys from the portal. And obviously we
- 25:41Speaker 10: lost a lot of talented players, and for us to
- 25:43Speaker 10: be the team we want to be next year, there's
- 25:45Speaker 10: got to be a lot of development this offseason to
- 25:47Speaker 10: get there.
- 25:48Speaker 6: Och will state to the right first road Travis.
- 25:52Speaker 5: Mike First, how maybe was things different this offseason having
- 25:56Speaker 5: just the one transfer portal window, and is that thing
- 26:00Speaker 5: you were in favor of now that you've been through.
- 26:02Speaker 10: It once, Yeah, tremendously in favor of it. I never
- 26:05Speaker 10: ever like the idea of two free agent windows. And
- 26:08Speaker 10: I think, especially now when you talk about rev share
- 26:11Speaker 10: caps and salary cap management to some degree, you know,
- 26:15Speaker 10: the thought that you would balance that cap and then
- 26:19Speaker 10: have another portal window never seem to make a ton
- 26:22Speaker 10: of sense, and so I think, obviously that's really good.
- 26:25Speaker 10: I think, you know, the more the more kids can
- 26:29Speaker 10: just make the decisions that they want to make, the
- 26:32Speaker 10: better it will be for the sport. You know, we're
- 26:36Speaker 10: never going to get rid of campering, but you know,
- 26:38Speaker 10: if it's not forty five days a year, open windows
- 26:41Speaker 10: to leave, if it's not.
- 26:44Speaker 6: You know, these long.
- 26:45Speaker 10: Periods of time where kids are going to get pulled
- 26:48Speaker 10: in different directions by a bunch of different people. The
- 26:50Speaker 10: more we can reduce the amount of windows, the amount
- 26:52Speaker 10: of days to just let kids declare their intentions based
- 26:57Speaker 10: on what they actually want to do, I think the
- 26:59Speaker 10: better it is for I think, the better it is
- 27:01Speaker 10: for the sport. And so I think it's all trending
- 27:03Speaker 10: in the right direction that way.
- 27:05Speaker 5: How cool was it for the program in for you
- 27:06Speaker 5: to bring in a guy like Houston Thomas w Leeve
- 27:08Speaker 5: you've known for quite a while.
- 27:10Speaker 6: Yeah, it's cool.
- 27:11Speaker 10: There's so many full circle things that happen in this profession,
- 27:15Speaker 10: especially being here in College station. And he's a kid
- 27:17Speaker 10: who went to school with my older son, and so
- 27:20Speaker 10: you know, knew who Euston Houston was as a ninth
- 27:22Speaker 10: grader when he was a young wide receiver developing into
- 27:24Speaker 10: his body, and obviously to watch his development in high
- 27:27Speaker 10: school while I was here as a defensive coordinator, and
- 27:30Speaker 10: then you know, we got a chance to play them
- 27:32Speaker 10: this year and to see kind of what he had
- 27:33Speaker 10: become as a college tight end. And then he goes
- 27:36Speaker 10: into transfer portal and obviously, I just think it made
- 27:38Speaker 10: a lot of sense for all parties to bring.
- 27:41Speaker 6: Him in here and at him.
- 27:42Speaker 10: And he's been great since he's gotten here, working really hard,
- 27:44Speaker 10: and you're looking forward to seeing what he can do.
- 27:47Speaker 14: Which we'll go to the last second row Alex with
- 27:50Speaker 14: Elijah Robinson. Just why was he the right fit, right
- 27:53Speaker 14: choice for that position bringing him in and then just
- 27:55Speaker 14: how much of maybe an added benefit is his familiarity
- 27:58Speaker 14: with this program and him coming.
- 27:59Speaker 5: In right now.
- 27:59Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, obviously, you know him and I came
- 28:01Speaker 10: here together in twenty eighteen. It's no secret we tried
- 28:05Speaker 10: to retain him when I got hired. I think at
- 28:08Speaker 10: that point in his mind there were different different boxes
- 28:11Speaker 10: he had to check getting a chance to be a
- 28:12Speaker 10: coordinator and doing those things.
- 28:15Speaker 6: I think when it became a parent.
- 28:16Speaker 10: And you saw this play out that he was going
- 28:19Speaker 10: to try to maybe get back into a co DC
- 28:22Speaker 10: slash D line role, he became one of the most
- 28:24Speaker 10: coveted coaches in the market. So to be able to
- 28:28Speaker 10: add him to our staff, he's just he's a great
- 28:32Speaker 10: D line coach. He's a great football coach. He's a
- 28:34Speaker 10: great man. I think he does an unbelievable job with
- 28:36Speaker 10: relationships and the connections that he makes in our program.
- 28:39Speaker 10: And so I think all of that with a guy
- 28:42Speaker 10: who I have a lot of familiarity with, who have
- 28:46Speaker 10: worked hand in hand with you trust at every level.
- 28:49Speaker 10: And then a kid who a guy who knows college station,
- 28:51Speaker 10: knows this program and note what Texas A.
- 28:53Speaker 6: And M is all about, I think it makes it
- 28:54Speaker 6: all the home run.
- 28:56Speaker 14: And just with the guys y'all brought in through the
- 28:57Speaker 14: transfer portal on the defensive line, what was your point
- 29:00Speaker 14: of emphasis and the guys that y'all went and got
- 29:02Speaker 14: and just kind of the type of player you were
- 29:04Speaker 14: looking for.
- 29:05Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, I think for sure it was the
- 29:07Speaker 10: same kind of thing as the offensive line. We needed
- 29:09Speaker 10: some old, experienced guys. We need guys who had played
- 29:12Speaker 10: snaps at the collegiate level. Obviously, there's a talent marker,
- 29:16Speaker 10: you know, if you're trying to find guys to project.
- 29:18Speaker 10: And I think one of the reasons why we've had
- 29:20Speaker 10: so much success with the transfers is we've we've looked
- 29:23Speaker 10: and found guys who fit our scheme, our system, our needs.
- 29:27Speaker 6: And so I think each one of them does that.
- 29:30Speaker 6: You know, again, we have it's an interesting.
- 29:33Speaker 10: Different than some of the other years past, Like I
- 29:36Speaker 10: don't know how these jobs will play out, you know.
- 29:38Speaker 10: I think in the past we've just had these big
- 29:40Speaker 10: holes that we needed to fill. I think this year
- 29:43Speaker 10: it's kind of like, well, we've got these young guys
- 29:45Speaker 10: that I think have a chance to make a giant
- 29:47Speaker 10: step this offseason. We've got these older guys who have
- 29:50Speaker 10: played a lot of football. It'll be really cool to see,
- 29:54Speaker 10: you know, who ultimately comes out on top of a
- 29:56Speaker 10: lot of those competitions. I think that would just be
- 29:59Speaker 10: really really good for a.
- 30:00Speaker 1: All right, that's just a part of what coach Elco
- 30:03Speaker 1: had to say yesterday meeting with the media. If we
- 30:06Speaker 1: had time, we'll listen to some of it at some
- 30:10Speaker 1: point later in the week. That was before the stories
- 30:15Speaker 1: on the new contract came out. We knew he'd signed
- 30:18Speaker 1: a new contract, we just didn't know the terms, and
- 30:22Speaker 1: several media outlets requested those through the Open Records Act.
- 30:27Speaker 1: Release those yesterday. He becomes his sixth highest paid coach.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Sefcheck's Service Center open right now until six o'clock. Open
- 30:37Speaker 1: seven to six through Friday, seven to four on Saturdays.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Spring break is right around the corner. If you're going
- 30:45Speaker 1: on the road, you got to make sure your car,
- 30:46Speaker 1: your truck, your suv is ready to get on the road.
- 30:50Speaker 1: Go by and see Pat and his staff. Let him
- 30:52Speaker 1: give you a safety check tires, belts, hoses, everything before
- 30:57Speaker 1: you get on the road. They have kept cars and
- 31:00Speaker 1: trucks running in the Brass Valley for over half century,
- 31:04Speaker 1: and they've done it with their history of customer service
- 31:07Speaker 1: and satisfaction. Don't miss out Sevcheck Service Center, twenty two
- 31:13Speaker 1: hundred long March. Just down from the post office in
- 31:16Speaker 1: College Station.
- 31:18Speaker 15: Is c in J Barbecue.
- 31:21Speaker 16: Okay, So for the Adam'm thinking fog machines, laser lies.
- 31:25Speaker 15: Maybe it see free uh yes.
- 31:28Speaker 14: But actually free yes every Wednesday night so I can.
- 31:31Speaker 6: Get free barbecue.
- 31:32Speaker 16: That's how kids eat free, works, buddy.
- 31:34Speaker 17: Wednesday's my favorite Dan.
- 31:36Speaker 16: Now see no fog machine needed.
- 31:38Speaker 15: Oh man, kids eat free every Wednesday night. It's seeing
- 31:41Speaker 15: J Barbecue. Great food, happy kids, seeing J Barbecue because
- 31:45Speaker 15: dinners shouldn't be another battle.
- 31:48Speaker 18: Since nineteen fifty seven, Slovotic Sausage and Snook has been
- 31:52Speaker 18: making the best tasting sausage in Texas from the same
- 31:56Speaker 18: family recipe. Slovatic is the official sausage of Texas A
- 31:59Speaker 18: and MS Athletics. Whether it's from the grill to the
- 32:02Speaker 18: family gathering or from the pit to the neighborhood party served.
- 32:05Speaker 18: The sausage voted best in the Brasses Valley Serve Slovacik.
- 32:09Speaker 18: Be sure to come in and check out their full
- 32:11Speaker 18: service meat market, relax on the front porch, or grab
- 32:14Speaker 18: some fresh kilazzis from their bakery on your way out.
- 32:16Speaker 18: Slovacic Sausage Highway sixty and snook it is a wrong
- 32:20Speaker 18: from Bomberham previously from Paul Fine Bomb Show.
- 32:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I used to run a restaurant, nine the Burger.
- 32:25Speaker 9: An had been there for fifty years.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Jimmy Georgia. Obviously you did pretty well.
- 32:29Speaker 19: You met a good life out of here at whatever
- 32:31Speaker 19: you've done.
- 32:32Speaker 20: Yeah, well I did.
- 32:33Speaker 1: I could tell you, but it had taken another hour.
- 32:35Speaker 6: May tell you.
- 32:36Speaker 19: Okay, Well, well we're only here for four hours, so
- 32:38Speaker 19: we better run.
- 32:38Speaker 4: Thanks for the call. Let's check in with Ervan.
- 32:40Speaker 21: Next the Paul Fine Bomb Show powered by Polaris Fund
- 32:44Speaker 21: Center two to four weekdays on the Zone.
- 32:54Speaker 22: I remember when I was a lad. Times were hard
- 32:57Speaker 22: and things were bad, but there's a silver lining behind
- 33:01Speaker 22: every cloud. Just four people, that's all. We were trying
- 33:07Speaker 22: to make a living out of black Lander.
- 33:09Speaker 9: If we'd get together in a family's circle, singing.
- 33:12Speaker 12: Loud, Welcome into the High School Report. I'm cayleb Rapley,
- 33:16Speaker 12: and today we're jumping out to the player as Fun
- 33:18Speaker 12: Center phone line to visit with the head coach of
- 33:21Speaker 12: the A and M Consolidated Tigers baseball team, mister Ryan Lenerton, coach.
- 33:25Speaker 19: Thanks for joining me today, no problem, Thanks for having me.
- 33:28Speaker 12: Absolutely baseball season is upon us, your Tigers getting the
- 33:33Speaker 12: season started this Friday against Little Elm. So, you know,
- 33:38Speaker 12: every year with high school and college sports, it's always
- 33:42Speaker 12: interesting to see, you know, with the seniors that depart
- 33:45Speaker 12: and the freshmen and sophomores that come up from JV
- 33:47Speaker 12: or you know, the junior high teams the year prior,
- 33:50Speaker 12: it's interesting to see what kids, you know, fill the roles.
- 33:54Speaker 12: So what are your thoughts and your team so far?
- 33:56Speaker 12: How are they looking.
- 33:58Speaker 19: I think we've done a pretty good job so far.
- 34:00Speaker 19: We've had a good scrimmage part of our schedule, and
- 34:04Speaker 19: we've got we've got some good players that came back.
- 34:07Speaker 19: We've got seniors Jordan Fowler and Colton Josie are back
- 34:11Speaker 19: to their senior years with US and they both started
- 34:14Speaker 19: last year for US. And then we've got some role
- 34:17Speaker 19: playing seniors also that have done a good job so far.
- 34:21Speaker 19: Jase Barker has done a pretty good job splitting time
- 34:23Speaker 19: between d H and first base, and Kyle Norton has
- 34:26Speaker 19: played the outfield that both of them have hit pretty well,
- 34:28Speaker 19: so that's nice. And then we've also got you know,
- 34:31Speaker 19: some other returning underclassmen with Joseph Young and Luke Harget,
- 34:38Speaker 19: Uh Cannon Boyd and uh Jack McGruder got a little
- 34:41Speaker 19: bit of time last year on the mound and they're
- 34:42Speaker 19: they're gonna hopefully play a big role for us this
- 34:45Speaker 19: year in the mound and Cannon will hopefully uh work
- 34:48Speaker 19: his way into a starting spot in our lineup too.
- 34:50Speaker 19: So you know, those two are both sophomores. We've got
- 34:54Speaker 19: some some pretty good depth. We've got another sophomore, Avery Shorshe,
- 34:58Speaker 19: who I think is going to be good guy out
- 35:00Speaker 19: of bullpen for us.
- 35:01Speaker 23: It's all lefty.
- 35:03Speaker 19: And then you know our ace, Michael Posey is back
- 35:05Speaker 19: for his junior year. So up and down the lineup
- 35:09Speaker 19: we've got. You know, we're kind of spread out through
- 35:11Speaker 19: sophomore to senior, but a good mix of returning guys
- 35:15Speaker 19: and guys that are on on varsity for the first
- 35:17Speaker 19: time and hopefully playing a role for us.
- 35:19Speaker 12: And aem Consolidated has been known as a school that produces,
- 35:24Speaker 12: you know, a lot of talent, you know, just on
- 35:26Speaker 12: Texas A and M's roster right now, Hunter Bond Uh
- 35:29Speaker 12: cansol alum.
- 35:31Speaker 18: So what is it what is it.
- 35:32Speaker 12: Like for you as a coach to guide the players
- 35:34Speaker 12: through that recruiting process.
- 35:36Speaker 19: Well, to be honest, the recruiting process helped. It happens
- 35:39Speaker 19: a lot in the summer. Just because the colleges are
- 35:42Speaker 19: playing at the same time we play. We play the
- 35:44Speaker 19: same night's Tuesday, Friday that they play. I get to
- 35:47Speaker 19: I get to do a little bit of the process
- 35:50Speaker 19: with the players. A lot of the time, it's guys
- 35:52Speaker 19: that are in their senior season that are still looking
- 35:56Speaker 19: for a place to go. I could reach out to
- 35:57Speaker 19: some contacts and things like that. So I enjoy doing
- 36:01Speaker 19: that part, sharing that experience with them and their families,
- 36:06Speaker 19: helping them get somewhere. It's harder than ever to get
- 36:10Speaker 19: a high school player into college now, so just educating
- 36:13Speaker 19: them on what their process and what their path could
- 36:16Speaker 19: look like and that it's not necessarily what even happened
- 36:20Speaker 19: four to six years ago.
- 36:22Speaker 12: So this weekend, starting off the tournament, y'all are hosting.
- 36:27Speaker 4: Got a lot of solid squads.
- 36:28Speaker 12: That you're going to be taking on, and I think
- 36:30Speaker 12: you've got four games over two days. So what are
- 36:33Speaker 12: your thoughts on those teams and those games this weekend.
- 36:36Speaker 19: Yeah, we've coach Litton at College Station. I coach Litton
- 36:40Speaker 19: gets the credit for the teams that we're bringing in.
- 36:43Speaker 19: We've got a really solid field this weekend. So we
- 36:46Speaker 19: start with Little Elm on Thursday and Wiley Thursday night.
- 36:50Speaker 19: Both those teams are traditionally really good. And then Friday
- 36:53Speaker 19: we play Hallsville and Leander Rous again traditionally good teams.
- 36:57Speaker 19: And Saturday we'll play a one game with somebody that's
- 37:00Speaker 19: on College Station side, will kind of seed it roughly
- 37:03Speaker 19: seed the tournament and play a team from that side.
- 37:06Speaker 19: But you know that side has College Station and magnoally
- 37:11Speaker 19: a West and so that side has loaded also. So
- 37:15Speaker 19: he's done a really good job getting really good talent
- 37:17Speaker 19: in here. BSN has been an outstanding sponsor for us.
- 37:21Speaker 19: So we're hitting it hard out of the gates. We're
- 37:25Speaker 19: we're to find out if we're any good or not
- 37:27Speaker 19: right out of the gates.
- 37:27Speaker 12: I think, yeah, that's always good to see where you're
- 37:30Speaker 12: at early in the season, gets some of that good competition.
- 37:34Speaker 12: Your Tigers finished five and six district played last season,
- 37:38Speaker 12: just outside that playoff bubble. So what are your thoughts
- 37:41Speaker 12: going into this year? What are your expectations for who
- 37:44Speaker 12: are some of your main competition in the district?
- 37:47Speaker 19: Well, pretty well everybody in the district is our main competition.
- 37:50Speaker 19: Our district is loaded again. The two Montgomery schools are
- 37:54Speaker 19: really good. Brenham College Station obviously really good. I think
- 37:58Speaker 19: Rudder is going to be much improved. And then Unskilled
- 38:01Speaker 19: stole games from guys last year and they've got some
- 38:04Speaker 19: solid pieces. So every game is important. You know, last year,
- 38:10Speaker 19: I think we finished six and six, not five and six,
- 38:12Speaker 19: but either way, we were on the outside. But we
- 38:16Speaker 19: lost three one run games, and uh you know, if
- 38:18Speaker 19: we win those three one run games, we win the district.
- 38:22Speaker 19: Our district is just that close that a few games
- 38:24Speaker 19: built it between being the district champion and not making
- 38:27Speaker 19: the playoffs. So we really stressed paying attention to details,
- 38:32Speaker 19: keeping the ball clean when we're on defense, and taking
- 38:34Speaker 19: advantage of runners in scoring position because you know, three
- 38:38Speaker 19: to two and two to one games we'll dictate where
- 38:42Speaker 19: you finish in this district.
- 38:43Speaker 12: All right, last question for you, coach, what's what's your
- 38:47Speaker 12: your biggest goal going into this season? What does success
- 38:50Speaker 12: look like for you?
- 38:51Speaker 18: Uh?
- 38:52Speaker 19: Well, obviously to make the experience the best we can
- 38:56Speaker 19: for the players. It's it's to win the district and
- 38:59Speaker 19: and make the playoff to make a deep run. But
- 39:03Speaker 19: as a coach, I always want the experience to be great,
- 39:05Speaker 19: and so we we augment our stuff with you know,
- 39:10Speaker 19: FCA Talks every week. I send out a weekly podcast
- 39:14Speaker 19: that we discuss. So really sending our seniors off to
- 39:18Speaker 19: be productive members of their communities and society is really
- 39:23Speaker 19: what I want them to get out of our program.
- 39:25Speaker 19: And obviously we do that through baseball. And they want
- 39:30Speaker 19: the wins and they want the stats, and they want
- 39:32Speaker 19: teammates and stuff like that. But you know, I'm old
- 39:37Speaker 19: enough now to step back and go, this is just
- 39:39Speaker 19: a very small piece, but we can use this as
- 39:42Speaker 19: a vessel to prepare them for what they're about to
- 39:44Speaker 19: run into outside of high school.
- 39:47Speaker 12: All right, coach, Well, thanks for your time today and
- 39:49Speaker 12: I wish you luck this season.
- 39:51Speaker 19: I appreciate it. Go Tigers.

- 43:22Speaker 1: City of El Paso, where, oh.
- 43:28Speaker 4: My god, fucky.
- 43:33Speaker 25: You know the term must win, it's kind of a
- 43:36Speaker 25: reused and I know y'all have six games left, but.
- 43:41Speaker 4: Does it apply? Good question?
- 43:45Speaker 23: I think I would say, you know, I would never
- 43:46Speaker 23: put a pressure on our team in that I think
- 43:48Speaker 23: must play well at this time of year is probably
- 43:50Speaker 23: what I would say.
- 43:53Speaker 4: And that's gonna take care.
- 43:54Speaker 23: You know of what you're asking, right, So I think
- 43:57Speaker 23: you know we must we must play well.
- 43:59Speaker 4: We didn't play well in the last.
- 44:01Speaker 23: Game at all and on the other side of the ball,
- 44:03Speaker 23: we were very fatigued.
- 44:04Speaker 4: In that game.
- 44:05Speaker 23: Uh, we had a good practice the day, we looked fresh,
- 44:07Speaker 23: we looked good. So I just think we got to
- 44:10Speaker 23: play well tomorrow. And you know, as you come down
- 44:13Speaker 23: the home stretch, I mean, that's what it's gonna come
- 44:14Speaker 23: down to.
- 44:15Speaker 4: We've gone through the gauntlet.
- 44:16Speaker 23: Our schedule still got good teams on them, still got
- 44:18Speaker 23: away games on it, but it was a tough ground
- 44:22Speaker 23: we've gone through. And you know, going going forward here,
- 44:26Speaker 23: you know we got to focus play in our best
- 44:28Speaker 23: basketball and you know it, they're.
- 44:32Speaker 4: All good teams.
- 44:33Speaker 23: But the stretch of games, the timing of the games,
- 44:35Speaker 23: the day of rest in between the games, I don't
- 44:37Speaker 23: think they'll be as challenging as what we just went through.
- 44:40Speaker 4: What did you learn about your team during this gone
- 44:43Speaker 4: during the what I'm sorry.
- 44:44Speaker 23: You said, Well, I mean we played five games or
- 44:50Speaker 23: underdog in four of the games. Right, we stole one
- 44:53Speaker 23: at Georgia, we gave one back first Missouri. I don't
- 44:56Speaker 23: say that in Negate, Missouri. I just mean at home.
- 45:00Speaker 23: On paper, we should probably win more of those than
- 45:02Speaker 23: we lose that one, and they're a good, good team
- 45:03Speaker 23: just on paper at home, neutral site, they're playing you know,
- 45:07Speaker 23: anybody's game obviously. You know, I learned that when we
- 45:12Speaker 23: got to the end of that one versus Vanderbilt. You know,
- 45:14Speaker 23: we had guys just after going through this deal that
- 45:17Speaker 23: were very fatigued within the first four minutes of the game.
- 45:21Speaker 23: And so you know, we're gonna have to trust our
- 45:24Speaker 23: depth a little bit more when that's the case.
- 45:26Speaker 4: Our group that comes off the bench was.
- 45:29Speaker 23: A lot more fresh and probably played better than our
- 45:32Speaker 23: first group in that game. So you know, I think
- 45:34Speaker 23: we're gonna trust our depth more, trying to find the
- 45:37Speaker 23: balance between rest and staying sharp. And but I think
- 45:42Speaker 23: at the end of it, I think that we you know,
- 45:44Speaker 23: we may be onto something. And I think that in
- 45:47Speaker 23: the games if guys can only play, if you know,
- 45:49Speaker 23: you got guys that played well all year long, but
- 45:51Speaker 23: they can't give you everything they got.
- 45:52Speaker 4: They just got to play a lot shorter minutes.
- 45:54Speaker 26: Sounds like you guys maybe altered a little bit of
- 45:56Speaker 26: practice the last couple of days due to some of that.
- 45:58Speaker 26: Just what exact actually have been the practice perimeters and
- 46:02Speaker 26: just kind of the thought behind that, and have you
- 46:04Speaker 26: seen some benefit from.
- 46:05Speaker 6: That as well.
- 46:06Speaker 4: I thought they were good today.
- 46:07Speaker 23: They're fresh today, most the majority of them.
- 46:11Speaker 4: I just I think the benefits.
- 46:14Speaker 23: You know, the our team, as we know, is not
- 46:18Speaker 23: the tallest team, so they have to be a fast team,
- 46:22Speaker 23: have to get up and down.
- 46:25Speaker 4: You need to be able to play well from behind
- 46:26Speaker 4: the three.
- 46:26Speaker 23: Point line, and you know, to do that, you can't
- 46:30Speaker 23: be in slow motion out there, right, And so our
- 46:34Speaker 23: focus has been doing everything we can not not worrying
- 46:37Speaker 23: about strategy as much is that that our players are
- 46:39Speaker 23: playing optimally.
- 46:40Speaker 4: There was a time where this doesn't happen.
- 46:42Speaker 23: Very much for any team, or felt like every player
- 46:45Speaker 23: on our team is playing an eight plus game. Some
- 46:46Speaker 23: games you look up and we make a very hot
- 46:49Speaker 23: percentage of threes down the stretch. And this guy played well,
- 46:52Speaker 23: this guy played well, this guy played well, this guy
- 46:53Speaker 23: played well. That doesn't happen a lot. In the last
- 46:57Speaker 23: couple of games. We hadn't had that. And you know,
- 47:00Speaker 23: to do that, they got to feel good about themselves.
- 47:02Speaker 23: Their body's got to feel right, and you know, that's
- 47:05Speaker 23: kind of that's kind of what we're focused on. How
- 47:07Speaker 23: can they be as precious they can be, so we
- 47:08Speaker 23: can play the way that we need to play.
- 47:11Speaker 1: Okay, I hate, I really hate to harp on this,
- 47:15Speaker 1: but the struggle from Reuben.
- 47:18Speaker 4: Continues, and how's he handling it?
- 47:21Speaker 1: And do you have to you know, continuously to show
- 47:26Speaker 1: supporters he just you know, understands it's just part of
- 47:30Speaker 1: the basket.
- 47:31Speaker 4: Yeah, that's in basketball.
- 47:33Speaker 23: There's there's ebb and flows of the season for a
- 47:36Speaker 23: team and for players.
- 47:37Speaker 4: And particularly shooters.
- 47:39Speaker 23: He shot it really well today, you know, we just
- 47:41Speaker 23: practice shot it really well. But I think that the
- 47:45Speaker 23: thing that he's got to focus on. If I'm not shooting, well,
- 47:48Speaker 23: what do I bring to the table to impact the game?
- 47:52Speaker 4: Can I defend? Right? Can I scrap for rebounds?
- 47:57Speaker 6: You know?
- 47:57Speaker 23: Can I pass the ball and get other guys shots?
- 48:00Speaker 23: And I think when you start doing that, well, everything
- 48:03Speaker 23: else kind of falls into place, you know, And I'm
- 48:07Speaker 23: no doubt, you know, I mean, he'll snap out of
- 48:09Speaker 23: you know, not making as many shots as he has.
- 48:11Speaker 23: He ain't got as many clean looks. Teams are ken
- 48:13Speaker 23: on him. Obviously, with the more he can do with
- 48:16Speaker 23: other things, the better he's gonna feel about his game.
- 48:17Speaker 23: And it seems when that happens, that confidence where it
- 48:21Speaker 23: needs to be and everything falls into place.
- 48:24Speaker 4: A shooting slim. Yeah, I mean we all have kind
- 48:31Speaker 4: of what I'm saying.
- 48:32Speaker 23: You start feeling, you start doing other parts of the game,
- 48:35Speaker 23: and then it just naturally finds you.
- 48:37Speaker 4: You know what I mean. I will not explain it.
- 48:38Speaker 23: You just it just naturally, just it finds you, just
- 48:41Speaker 23: like golf in a way, right, I mean, you know,
- 48:45Speaker 23: you can have those things and then you take two
- 48:47Speaker 23: days off. Sometimes you come back and play your best,
- 48:50Speaker 23: you know, and then you gotta have that confidence when
- 48:52Speaker 23: you play. But some of Rubens's deal has been that
- 48:57Speaker 23: we're playing a little bit too slow in some ways
- 48:59Speaker 23: on offense, on defense, and so they're able to kill
- 49:02Speaker 23: on him a lot more. You know, when when the
- 49:05Speaker 23: game is just half court, bone on bone, we got
- 49:07Speaker 23: to get the game, you know, where he's able to
- 49:09Speaker 23: get loose a little bit in transition.
- 49:11Speaker 26: Maybe just from a coach's perspective, when a team is
- 49:14Speaker 26: in a funk or has an extended losing street, just
- 49:19Speaker 26: what's maybe from a mental standpoint, what's the hardest challenge
- 49:21Speaker 26: in breaking that and getting back on track playing want.
- 49:24Speaker 23: To Well, I think that's why as a coach, I'm
- 49:28Speaker 23: I'm always realistic, Like that's why I think that I
- 49:32Speaker 23: have trust with my players and hopefull I have trust
- 49:35Speaker 23: with y'all.
- 49:35Speaker 4: Like I mean, call it what it is. Yep.
- 49:40Speaker 23: We've played five games, one versus National champion, one at Alabama,
- 49:45Speaker 23: one at Georgia, one at Vanderbilt, in one versus Missouri,
- 49:49Speaker 23: we were at underdog and fourth the five games.
- 49:52Speaker 4: I expect to win every game. That's just how it is.
- 49:54Speaker 23: We think that we can win every game, but we
- 49:56Speaker 23: knew that was going to be a tough challenge. We
- 49:57Speaker 23: won one of the five. That's disappointing on paper, it's
- 50:01Speaker 23: not people would say, yeah, makes sense. We're in position
- 50:06Speaker 23: to win three of the five with Missouri in Alabama
- 50:10Speaker 23: could have won those equally. So I'm realistic that it's
- 50:16Speaker 23: what it is. The feeling, the vibe would be different
- 50:19Speaker 23: if the schedule was flipped and we just start won.
- 50:22Speaker 4: You know seven.
- 50:23Speaker 23: I brought the statup last night when I was at Rudy's.
- 50:27Speaker 23: It's funny, so when the year that A twenty sixteen,
- 50:31Speaker 23: when we won the SEC here Texas and M. There's
- 50:37Speaker 23: a point in season that that A and M was
- 50:38Speaker 23: seven and one, and there's seven to one and then
- 50:43Speaker 23: lose their next four games. Then on February sixteenth, twenty sixteen,
- 50:49Speaker 23: they play Old Miss and beat them and don't lose
- 50:53Speaker 23: a game until the Conference Tournament championship and they won
- 50:56Speaker 23: the SEC.
- 50:57Speaker 4: It's funny how it works.
- 50:58Speaker 23: We're sitting here on February eighteen, We're gonna play all
- 51:00Speaker 23: myths to start seven to one, right, lost four games and.
- 51:06Speaker 4: We're right here.
- 51:08Speaker 23: I mean I expected that every game that we're gonna win,
- 51:11Speaker 23: I don't know. But the point is, you're going to
- 51:13Speaker 23: have these two a season, and I think I build
- 51:16Speaker 23: enough trust of my guys that we got to focus
- 51:17Speaker 23: on playing playing good basketball, and you know, I think
- 51:22Speaker 23: it takes care of itself.
- 51:24Speaker 4: I can say this as well.
- 51:28Speaker 23: Well more than half the teams in the league, I
- 51:30Speaker 23: would say, would want to trade places with us right now,
- 51:33Speaker 23: you know, still having home games where we are in
- 51:37Speaker 23: the league, knowing if we can get tomorrow eight wins
- 51:40Speaker 23: with five to play, A lot of teams would trade
- 51:44Speaker 23: places in a heartbeat. We certainly would have all probably
- 51:47Speaker 23: signed up for that in the spring, before the season
- 51:51Speaker 23: started and before SEC play started. So we're in a
- 51:54Speaker 23: great position. We got to capitalize on it. And you know,
- 51:59Speaker 23: focus on what the heck we got to do to
- 52:01Speaker 23: play good basketball. We did not play good basketball in
- 52:04Speaker 23: the last game. Some of that's probably on me not
- 52:06Speaker 23: give them the right rest and getting their bodies right.
- 52:11Speaker 20: You mentioned leaning on your depth more the way that
- 52:14Speaker 20: Zach has been playing, and you know Ali as well,
- 52:17Speaker 20: have you had any conversations about potentially changing up a
- 52:20Speaker 20: starting lineup or I know, starters don't really matter in
- 52:23Speaker 20: your system.
- 52:23Speaker 4: It's more about the pote in the game.
- 52:25Speaker 20: But to maybe get that depth to make an impact quicker, we.
- 52:29Speaker 23: Got to do something to balance the groups better. And
- 52:32Speaker 23: in some regard, we're gonna look at that. You know,
- 52:36Speaker 23: I'm not big into your best five starting. I'm not
- 52:39Speaker 23: even sending them guys to start now our best five,
- 52:41Speaker 23: But we got to do something to get the groups
- 52:43Speaker 23: a little more balanced here because they certainly have We
- 52:48Speaker 23: certainly haven't got off to the starts that we want
- 52:50Speaker 23: to the past couple of games, that's for sure, and
- 52:53Speaker 23: we can't have a situation where we're on the road. Look,
- 52:57Speaker 23: I had someone from and opposing staff say, y'all with
- 53:03Speaker 23: the hards playing team in the league, that's what's made
- 53:06Speaker 23: y'all really special. In a very connected group, maybe the
- 53:10Speaker 23: most connected group in league.
- 53:12Speaker 4: And last time that.
- 53:13Speaker 23: Didn't look like y'all, you know, and so I got
