- 0:02Have you ever strayed away from going to certain events because you're afraid that someone's gonna notice your, um, bald spot or that someone's going to notice the wide part in between your hair, wherever that may be?
- 0:18Well, two weeks ago I shared my nine month journey, which is called " What I Did When My Hair Started Falling Off in Clumps." And so that was basically a video about, what worked for me and what didn't work for me.
- 0:34So that was more of treatment to make my hair grow or what I, what I was doing to make my hair grow.
- 0:44And in that video, I promise that I would share with you guys, what am I currently doing, or what have I tried to do to hide some of those spots that make me feel less confident or make me feel, like everybody's staring at it, even though no one is truly is.
- 1:03So I know you guys know what I'm gonna say first.
- 1:09So what I have, what I love to do is my heatless curls.
- 1:17This is just a one band, I can't remember what it's called.
- 1:21And then this is the Octo Curl.
- 1:23And this has to where you can wrap your hair on the top and the bottom, and I will show a picture of what I look like wearing each one of these.
- 1:32I will tell you I probably look a little bit better, less scary if someone happens to drop by my house if I am wearing this than when I'm wearing this.
- 1:42The reason why I like to wear these is because they give my hair volume.
- 1:48I'm not gonna lie to you, it can take some adjusting as far as learning how to wrap your hair in either one of these two devices.
- 1:56Secondly, it also can be quite challenging to sleep at night if you wrap it a certain way.
- 2:05I personally prefer the one rod.
- 2:09Or I can't remember what exactly what it's called, and I really like it because, just place it on my hair.
- 2:16I usually put like a clip here and then I just roll kind of like you are French braiding.
- 2:21But I really like this one because it's sort of kind of here and then I can tuck it in the back of my hair.
- 2:26I sleep on my back.
- 2:28It just makes it easier if I happen to roll on my side.
- 2:31Um, it's just easier to fall asleep.
- 2:34The other reason why I kind of like this one too is because, um, I don't feel like it's pulling my hair in different directions.
- 2:42The Octo Curl, it's a good product, really good product, it probably gives my hair way more volume than if I use this particular product here.
- 2:50But, um, I sometimes, if I turn my head a certain way, way, I sort of feel like it's pulling my hair.
- 2:57And when you're trying to grow your hair back, the last thing you want is hair, your hair to be pulled.
- 3:02So, but, here, as I mentioned, these two babies are the thing that I like to do.
- 3:10Usually what I like to do is I, I like, I think that I get more volume when I wash my hair beforehand, make sure that it is, um, dry and then I roll my hair.
- 3:22And I will be honest with you again, it is a trial and error type of thing.
- 3:26You just have to stick with it.
- 3:28If you find too much pulling, then maybe you don't sleep with them at night.
- 3:32Maybe wear them, during the day, you know if, if you happen to work from home, you can wear them during the day, take them out, run your fingers through your hair, it'll give you the volume.
- 3:43If your hair looks kind of crazy and I've had that happen, you can use your curler.
- 3:48But I like it because it makes, just makes my hair look a little bit fuller.
- 3:51So, that is number one.
- 3:55The other thing that I have tried that is my best friend is either these two products.
- 4:02This is, and they come, this particular product comes in I think different companies make them but it is a root, root touchup.
- 4:11So some of you might say, well, I don't have gray hair.
- 4:15I love you.
- 4:15I wish I was you.
- 4:17Um, but this, this is kind of like a two in one because if you do have gray hair, you can cover up your gray hair.
- 4:24If you don't have gray hair, it does kind of give the illusion that your, that, hides that area you don't wanna show.
- 4:33Um, then there is this other product here.
- 4:35I don't know if you can see it.
- 4:37It is called Gray Away.
- 4:39I will make sure that I put it on, on a full screen so you can see it.
- 4:44It's called Gray Away.
- 4:45The reason why I like this particular product is because it's kind of, I call it my crayon.
- 4:51So, um, I'm not sure how many different colors it comes in, but as you can see, it's kind of like a crayon and it is soft.
- 4:59It's kind of clay, and you can just, brush it into your hair.
- 5:03I love this because I can brush it into, where I need a touchup.
- 5:09And it's easy to control.
- 5:10And if you feel like you've gone a little too crazy, maybe, maybe some of you don't like it on your scalp, it has kind of like a sponge, little app applicator, sorry, applicator.
- 5:21And you can just kind of use that sponge and you can kind of just smear it like that.
- 5:25And so that works really well.
- 5:28And I will say I did do style my hair just slightly different today.
- 5:32For you guys because I wanted to show you guys that yes, I do have, um, some areas to where my hair is slowly growing before I, um, actually use this product.
- 5:45Both of these products, the Gray away and this, uh, Ageless Root Touch-up are both, um, waterproof or not waterproof, but they'll stay on your hair all night until you shampoo your hair.
- 5:58So I like that.
- 6:00This particular product here I'm not too much of a fan of because if your hands are slightly moist or have some kind of oils on it, and if you touch, don't touch your face, ' cause if you touch your face, you might have whatever color you chose.
- 6:14Mine is kind of a, um, light brown.
- 6:18I might get that on my face.
- 6:19So I'm gonna kind of show you here.
- 6:21If you see here, I still have.
- 6:24It's little baby growth, but, oh, I wanted to, before I go into that, my hair up here and back here, where the hair has grown back is about this long.
- 6:35So that's about, I don't know, three inches.
- 6:37I can feel that when I do roll my hair, like, like I've mentioned before in the prior video, that when I roll my hair it gets a little harder to roll here.
- 6:45So that's why you're probably looking at my hair and saying what happened to her hair?
- 6:49It's because it's getting thicker.
- 6:50So I'm gonna demonstrate with you guys right here.
- 6:53As you can see, I have a little bit of a spot that I don't like to share, but I'm gonna share it with you guys because you guys are my friends.
- 7:03So, so there you go.
- 7:14It's not perfect, but it does give the illusion, you know, it's not, it gives the illusion that one, my hair's a little darker there.
- 7:24And two, it also gives the illusion that there's actually, um some hair there.
- 7:28The only thing I will warn you is that because it does go on your scalp, your scalp is also going to be the exact same color as the product that you actually put on.
- 7:36But hey, who cares?
- 7:38It's all about confidence and you don't have to explain why your scalp is brown.
- 7:43It could brown or black or whatever.
- 7:45It could be that maybe you failed to wear a hat in the sun and you've got a load of little bit of color there, like we get, you know, on our skin.
- 7:53So those are the products that I have used and I love, or the two things.
- 8:00The other thing that I have done, if you've watched any and all of my videos from the beginning of 2022, you will notice that I part my hair a little different.
- 8:10And the reason I've done that is because when your hair starts falling, unfortunately it falls, in different areas.
- 8:20And sometimes it falls in one area in particular.
- 8:24And so I used to part my hair on this side, but then this side got like, it became more finer, I think I'm gonna use that word, instead.
- 8:34My hair became more finer on this side, so I had to start parting it; well, no, so then what I started doing is parting my hair down the middle, and I think some of, in some of my videos, you will notice that my hair is parted in the middle.
- 8:46Then I noticed that I started become becoming a little more finer toward the middle.
- 8:52This is all before I really started to notice that my hair was falling out.
- 8:57So then I started parting it on the side and on this side, and it's kind of stayed that way.
- 9:03But that's kind of what I've done is I flipped my hair different directions and I use these particular products so that it gives me that confidence to be on camera or even be out around people and I don't have to worry about can they see my finer area.
- 9:21So those are things that I've done.
- 9:23The other thing is haircut.
- 9:27You know if your hair is thinner, you might want to consider a different haircut.
- 9:33What I have done is, as I mentioned before, I used to thin out my hair before my hair started falling out because it was too thick.
- 9:42Boy, I wish I can't wait to get there again, and I'm getting there because my hair is currently in the anagen phase.
- 9:49So you know, you might want to consider, I, what I did is I started telling my hairstyle as to, well, she stopped thinning out my hair some time ago, probably about, um, probably, I think I'm gonna go on two years now.
- 10:06But close to two years, somewhere in there.
- 10:08But what I've told her now is that, so that my hair looks a little thicker, is I've told her to do longer layers instead of, the layers, she used to do.
- 10:20I used to do kind of a chunky type of layer so that my hair, didn't feel too heavy and it would style and my curls would stay longer.
- 10:31Oh, that's another thing, um, prior, I used to always wear my hair straight because it was big and thick, you know, I could wear straight hair and people would admire my hair, but when my hair started to fall out, that's when I started curling my hair so that it gave the illusion that it was thicker.
- 10:49So you might want to consider maybe wearing something that has more volume.
- 10:56So you know the hair, you know, changing your haircut.
- 10:59Sorry about that, I have a couple notes here 'cause I wanna make sure I cover everything.
- 11:04Um, another thing is maybe wearing, and this is something that you have to be really careful with.
- 11:10I used to always wear my hair in a tight ponytail when my husband and I go out and walk.
- 11:16Now what I do is I do a loose French braid, sort of.
- 11:19But it's very, very loose.
- 11:21And I do wear, oh, I have one in my pocket right now.
- 11:23I wear scrunchies scrunchies instead of, um, other bands.
- 11:28And the reason I do that is because, um, these particular scrunchies are better for your hair.
- 11:34They're not the best thing for your hair, but they're better than wearing a band.
- 11:38Um, you might wanna consider maybe wearing some type of, like a lazy bun.
- 11:43I've seen some women on, on TV or even on Pinterest, you know, pictures where they have this like kind of a knot thing and it's very classy, you know, it doesn't look really messy, like you didn't put any thought into the way you look.
- 11:59And then if you have, again, if you have certain areas, we women tend to lose hair when we start to lose it here in the temple area, use some of these products.
- 12:08I mean, they're great, great products.
- 12:10Use some of these, spray it on the side.
- 12:13And go out and do your bad stuff.
- 12:15So those are things you might want to, those are things that I tried and have allowed me to still stay connected with the real world.
- 12:24Because it's all about creating the best me is about being out there, being involved, doing the things that make me feel good, and also being with my family.
- 12:36Other things that I have seen, people use.
- 12:40I've never used them.
- 12:42My daughter shared with me one day that one of her teachers had a, receding hairline.
- 12:47And she never knew this.
- 12:49I didn't know this.
- 12:50But she said that she had a clip on bangs.
- 12:55So if you're one of those type of people that maybe have a hairline that you're not very confident in.
- 13:02I swear to you, I met this woman.
- 13:04I spoke to this woman.
- 13:05I would have never known that she was wearing a clip bangs.
- 13:11I know that some people will put them into their hair to just give their hair a little bit of volume and they will find those that are pretty close to their hair.
- 13:21I wouldn't recommend doing, um, extensions.
- 13:25'Cause extensions tend to break your hair.
- 13:27The key is to try to be as gentle and friendly to your hair.
- 13:33So maybe buy some of those clips.
- 13:35Just clip 'em in, you know, during the day when you go out and do stuff and then take 'em out at night, let your hair breathe, let it be in its natural state.
- 13:45Those are things to do.
- 13:46Another thing, I've seen these on Amazon, they might be other places might sell'em, but they're called hair fibers.
- 13:53And it's almost like this spray sort of, but um, supposedly it sticks on to your hair and gives your hair, kind of grows with your hair.
- 14:04Kind of gives the illusion that you have kind of like tiny hairs there.
- 14:10I have read that some people, and I don't know if it's like an application type thing, but some people have had problems getting it to stick.
- 14:19So do your research, find one that maybe works best for you or is easier to use.
- 14:26And, it doesn't fly around all over the place.
- 14:29' Cause that's another thing that I saw that where they said that it was just too dusty and made a mess.
- 14:33Another thing is, as I mentioned, you know, hair toppers.
- 14:38I remember, um, a couple months ago I was in DC and there was a beautiful waitress that would come and greet us for breakfast at the hotel we were staying in.
- 14:47And I admired her hair.
- 14:49I loved her hair.
- 14:50But then one morning I actually paid attention and I noticed she was wearing a hair topper.
- 14:55And I think I paid attention because she had talked about my hair.
- 14:58And so I looked at her hair and I told her, your hair is so beautiful.
- 15:01It's always beautiful.
- 15:02Every morning we come in here.
- 15:04And then I realized she was wearing a hair topper.
- 15:06And you know what?
- 15:07It had a part, you know, it had a part just like we have a part on heart, on our own scalp.
- 15:13It was amazing.
- 15:14It was beautiful.
- 15:15So that is, that is an option.
- 15:17And you know what, it's all about you.
- 15:19It's kind of like wearing earrings or makeup or whatever.
- 15:22You're wearing it for that occasion.
- 15:25If it makes you feel empowering, it makes you feel good, do it.
- 15:28You know, who cares about what other people think.
- 15:31I, I'm a hair person and I'm like, oh, your hair looks beautiful.
- 15:35Then I noticed what it was.
- 15:37But it didn't look, you know, like remember back in the eighties and nineties, you know when men used to wear rugs on their hair, on their head?
- 15:46I'm sorry.
- 15:47And it looks so fake, it doesn't look like that.
- 15:50It looks amazing.
- 15:52And you know, if you don't have a hair issue, they kind of give you that versatility of changing the way you look or the type of hair texture that you have.
- 16:02So I think hair toppers are amazing.
- 16:05Another thing that I think a lot of us as when we were younger, liked to play with, um, are wigs.
- 16:11Wigs are a great option and nowadays the, um, type of hair that is in the wigs or the color of the cut, all that stuff, it's changed dramatically.
- 16:25It makes you feel like it's you.
- 16:28I mean, wigs are amazing.
- 16:30I like to wear 'em during the holidays, you know, like for Halloween and stuff.
- 16:35Just 'cause they're fun.
- 16:37But, uh, you can find really good wigs and those are amazing options.
- 16:43I have a friend who actually wears a wig.
- 16:45I didn't know if she wore a wig.
- 16:47But, her hair she looks good.
- 16:50She looks good, doesn't it.
- 16:51You know, it's not like you're like, whoa! No.
- 16:54I'm like, whoa, she's so beautiful.
- 16:56So those are options.
- 16:58Um, Another thing are hairstyles.
- 17:02You know, we're in a different period now.
- 17:04It's not like back in the fifties where, you know, you can't wear, you can't do this, can't wear this indoors, outdoors.
- 17:10You can wear a hat.
- 17:12Hats, are a beautiful accessory, but they're also something that you can use to make you, to give you your confidence back.
- 17:20Scarfs, you can wear a scarf.
- 17:23Oh my gosh, I can't tell you anytime I've ever seen a woman wearing a scarf on her hair, I always think, oh my goodness, she looks so elegant.
- 17:31There's just a certain elegancy to that.
- 17:34That's something you can do.
- 17:35Another thing is, you know, headbands.
- 17:39You know, if you have like a certain spot up here, get a wide headband.
- 17:44You know, just something that empowers you and they're so classy.
- 17:49I don't know.
- 17:49I mean, to me it takes me back to like the fifties where women always look classy.
- 17:55Bring it back, make it you.
- 17:58Those are really good options.
- 18:00So those are just ideas.
- 18:03Those are just ideas, but find what works for you.
- 18:06Find what makes you feel comfortable.
- 18:09I think that's the, that's the main thing here.
- 18:12And let's, let's walk through this journey together.
- 18:16Don't isolate yourself because your hair is falling out.
- 18:21Because here's the thing is.
- 18:24If you keep stressing out about, my hair is falling, my hair is falling, that stress is just going to constantly live there.
- 18:34And as I mentioned before in that episode two weeks ago, that stress, once it's, once that stress, you're no longer holding onto that stress, it can take three to six months for your body to shift and start regrowing its hair back if you're doing it in a more natural approach.
- 18:55Or if you, even if you're taking minoxidil.
- 18:58I will give you really good news, yesterday I did wash my hair and I was shocked.
- 19:04I was really, really shocked because there was like very little hair in the drain.
- 19:11And then I brushed and I thought, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:13You know, when I brush my hair, I'm gonna see the hair.
- 19:17And guess what?
- 19:18Very little hair falling out, so yay.
- 19:21It's happening.
- 19:22But I think it's happening because I'm letting go of the stress.
- 19:28I'm like, you know what, I'm doing the helmet.
- 19:31I am taking my vitamins.
- 19:33I am taking Minoxidil.
- 19:35I am brushing my hair more often.
- 19:38That was something that I didn't do and a lot of us take for granted that I'm not gonna brush my hair'cause it's gonna fall, but it's actually good for your scalp.
- 19:46It's kind of like a scalp massage.
- 19:48So that, and I try to make sure not to put my hair up in a bun if I don't need to.
- 19:55Try to wear my hair loose because I don't wanna pull my hair.
- 19:58Um, another thing that's really, really important is if you are outdoor, always, always wear a hat.
- 20:05You know, I think we emphasize about wearing sunscreen on our face and body.
- 20:10Well, you know what your scalp needs, that same TLC.
- 20:14Wear a hat.
- 20:15So that's what I have to share with y'all.
- 20:18I hope that my tricks and tips, the things that worked for me, the things that I've explored but haven't tried, will open the door for you to have some sense of hope.
- 20:31That's what I want.
- 20:32I want you to have hope that we can get through this.
- 20:36We're okay.
- 20:37If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to write them down below in the comments and I will make sure to answer them or just support you.
- 20:48So if you'd like any additional information, want pictures, wanna see some pictures of potential, um, haircuts that, you can wear while we grow our hair back, I'll make sure to post them on my blog post, which is createthebestme.com/ep136.
- 21:11And as always, thank you for watching and I will catch you next week.
- 21:19Bye for now.
