- 0:02Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett.
- 0:06Speaker 2: It's another week. We haven't talked to my next guest
- 0:09Speaker 2: in a couple of weeks already, which is kind of
- 0:11Speaker 2: wild because we always do a weekly take. But Termindello's take,
- 0:14Speaker 2: you had time with family. I've been running around doing
- 0:17Speaker 2: twelve different jobs at my radio, Jeb, and here we
- 0:20Speaker 2: are finally reconnecting to celebrate our fourth year coming up
- 0:24Speaker 2: of Terminello's take.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Yeah, it is pretty amazing, Alex. Thank you as always,
- 0:28Speaker 1: thank you for the last four years, give me the
- 0:30Speaker 1: opportunity to speak with with you and something you know
- 0:32Speaker 1: I enjoy, so looking forward to it. And as I
- 0:36Speaker 1: say in politics, four more years, maybe four more years
- 0:39Speaker 1: after that, so.
- 0:41Speaker 2: I know you're you're you are you are. There are
- 0:43Speaker 2: no term limits to Terminello's take.
- 0:45Speaker 1: All right, that's great, thank you, I appreciate that.
- 0:49Speaker 2: So that being said, I remember that first conversation about
- 0:52Speaker 2: Gil Hodges when they put him in the Hall of
- 0:55Speaker 2: Fame and what a day that was. And after that
- 0:58Speaker 2: hour long conversation, it clicked in my brain. Low, we
- 1:01Speaker 2: got to do this more often than we have week
- 1:03Speaker 2: after week.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Yeah, and again, you know we talk about a little
- 1:07Speaker 1: different types of sports. We talk about the history of sports,
- 1:11Speaker 1: which I love to talk about, the history on anything sports.
- 1:15Speaker 1: It fits right in. So, uh, you know, let's let's
- 1:20Speaker 1: let's get it going. I mean, with the NFL season
- 1:22Speaker 1: starying tomorrow night, exciting times, the baseball season and its
- 1:26Speaker 1: stretch run. In a couple of weeks, the hockey and
- 1:29Speaker 1: basketball team leagues will be going to training camp. So
- 1:32Speaker 1: we've got a lot of stuff coming on.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Oh, we absolutely do. And I mean I want to
- 1:39Speaker 2: start because we have a lot of hockey fans that listen.
- 1:42Speaker 2: I scrolling, so for me before we start, and I
- 1:45Speaker 2: see Scott Gohman is in a Ranger jersey. Okay, I
- 1:48Speaker 2: know more of the devil guy. Okay. I actually held
- 1:50Speaker 2: the Stanley Cup with him in George stebert Or suite.
- 1:53Speaker 2: He was at one end of the cup at the
- 1:54Speaker 2: bottom and I was the top holding the cup at
- 1:56Speaker 2: the top of it was quite a moment.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:59Speaker 2: But he's in the US Hall of Fame. So give
- 2:01Speaker 2: us a little lesson here. I want to met to
- 2:03Speaker 2: the NHL Hall of Fame and the US Hall of Fame.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Well, obviously, the US Hall of Fame is for people
- 2:08Speaker 1: who have contributed to the development and greatness of hockey
- 2:12Speaker 1: in the United States. And Scott Domes, who comes from
- 2:16Speaker 1: the forty nine state from Alaska, obviously he was an
- 2:19Speaker 1: outstanding Devil. And I will never forget the day that
- 2:25Speaker 1: signed Gomez who Lou Lamarello, who's also in the US
- 2:31Speaker 1: Hockey Hall of Fame, is very close to Gomez, and
- 2:34Speaker 1: he actually made them the Islanders a power play coach,
- 2:37Speaker 1: and when Lou took over, the Devil the Islanders. But
- 2:44Speaker 1: I'll never forget the day that he signed with the Rangers.
- 2:46Speaker 1: I believe it was for seven million dollars a year.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I was in a conference room with two or three
- 2:51Speaker 1: of my colleagues and Lou, who's never late for a meeting,
- 2:54Speaker 1: was a little bit late that day and he came
- 2:57Speaker 1: in and he apologized and he said, I am not
- 3:00Speaker 1: paying Scott go my seven million dollars a year. I
- 3:03Speaker 1: think it was seven million dollars a year for seven years.
- 3:06Speaker 1: And obviously Scott Gomers did not have the Ranger career
- 3:09Speaker 1: that he had as a Devil career.
- 3:11Speaker 2: So by that time he was a little older. Let's
- 3:13Speaker 2: be honest, he was a little older at that point,
- 3:15Speaker 2: and he had had all his success as a devil.
- 3:18Speaker 2: I mean, I think he won two or three Cups
- 3:20Speaker 2: there with them.
- 3:21Speaker 1: He was an outstanding player. I mean, but lou you know,
- 3:26Speaker 1: you know how lou Is once he once he put
- 3:30Speaker 1: you know, he draws the line to saying he's not
- 3:32Speaker 1: going over it. And I'll remember, I remember that day.
- 3:37Speaker 2: But you're right, Louie. There is an NFL season upon us,
- 3:40Speaker 2: and we can talk about ANHL later. That's over a
- 3:42Speaker 2: month away, which I can't believe how fast time's going.
- 3:45Speaker 2: But Louie, the New York posts they saying the future
- 3:48Speaker 2: is bright for both the Jets and the Giants, and
- 3:52Speaker 2: I don't know. I feel like I hear that every
- 3:53Speaker 2: year with these teams. But but there's something in the air.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Maybe it's the new coaching Steff the Jets. Maybe it's,
- 4:01Speaker 2: you know, the infusion Jackson Dart has given in his reps.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Maybe it's just this fire under both teams that I'm
- 4:09Speaker 2: not felt in a little while. Are you feeling that
- 4:11Speaker 2: same fire yet?
- 4:12Speaker 1: Or no, Well you're much younger than me and I
- 4:15Speaker 1: have gone through more Jets torture then you've had to watch.
- 4:21Speaker 1: I don't feel it, Alex, I mean, I have no idea.
- 4:23Speaker 1: I love Aaron Glenn as a player. He was a
- 4:25Speaker 1: terrific Jet player. But the Jets have a new coach,
- 4:28Speaker 1: they got a new GM, they have a new quarterback,
- 4:32Speaker 1: a new offensive philosophy. I do think they have a
- 4:35Speaker 1: solid roster. I am not a big fan of the
- 4:40Speaker 1: new quarterback justin fields, but he is the most athletic
- 4:44Speaker 1: person to play a quarterback position in Jets history. So
- 4:49Speaker 1: you know, we'll see if they can put all together. Obviously,
- 4:53Speaker 1: while they do have a solid roster, they're a little
- 4:55Speaker 1: short in some areas. They need a number two receiver.
- 5:01Speaker 1: They might be a little short on some linebacking talent.
- 5:05Speaker 1: But they suffered a major injury today with Elijah Vera Tucker,
- 5:11Speaker 1: their right guard, likely being out for the season what
- 5:15Speaker 1: looks like a torn bicep. Conflicting reports on which arm
- 5:21Speaker 1: it is, but doesn't matter. He was going to start
- 5:26Speaker 1: at right tackle. He's a tremendous player. He's in his
- 5:28Speaker 1: fifty year. He's a free agent at the end of
- 5:31Speaker 1: the year. The Jets game in the fifty year option.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I don't think he will ever see him play again
- 5:37Speaker 1: because they're not going to give him a big contract
- 5:39Speaker 1: at the end of the year. He's had injuries in
- 5:42Speaker 1: the past, but when he played, he was an outstanding
- 5:47Speaker 1: He was their best lineman. And it's a double whammy
- 5:50Speaker 1: because he was going to play right guard and Armond Membo,
- 5:53Speaker 1: their number one draft pick out of Missouri's gonna be
- 5:56Speaker 1: their right tackle. And having if you're a Tucker next
- 6:00Speaker 1: to Membo gave them gave gives Membo a little confidence,
- 6:06Speaker 1: a little security there because they were building a good
- 6:09Speaker 1: offensive line. So what they're gonna do is, in all likelihood,
- 6:14Speaker 1: they're gonna move Joe Tipman, who was their center.
- 6:19Speaker 2: I think.
- 6:20Speaker 1: I think they're gonna move into one of the guard positions.
- 6:22Speaker 1: I don't know if they're gonna keep John John Simpson
- 6:25Speaker 1: and left guard or move him to to right guard
- 6:28Speaker 1: or vice versa, and Josh Myers, who they signed as
- 6:31Speaker 1: a free agent, will be the starting center. Alex I
- 6:36Speaker 1: think the Jets. The Jets are gonna run the ball
- 6:39Speaker 1: more than they have since the days of Rex Ryan,
- 6:42Speaker 1: which I have no problem with, but still, this is
- 6:44Speaker 1: a passing league.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Especially because their own quarterback is a runner. I mean,
- 6:48Speaker 2: let's just face that Justin Fields can run up that
- 6:50Speaker 2: field like nobody's business and I gotta ask you this, Louie.
- 6:54Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, the brief fields backfield is gonna be
- 6:57Speaker 2: very interesting. Eron Glen was defensive coordinator against the lines.
- 7:01Speaker 2: He had a face field twice every year for the
- 7:04Speaker 2: last couple of years. He might have picked up on
- 7:07Speaker 2: some things and can coach him a little differently having
- 7:10Speaker 2: picked up on it on the defensive side on the ball.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Well, you know, obviously he says, I'm coaching the entire team.
- 7:16Speaker 1: And you know, sometimes when these defensive coaches or offensive coaches,
- 7:20Speaker 1: they only want to coach, They only coach one side
- 7:23Speaker 1: of the ball, and that's that's a detriment to the team.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Aaron Glenn said on day one, I'm I'm going to
- 7:28Speaker 1: be the coach of the entire team, and I do
- 7:32Speaker 1: believe that. And then we'll see how good he is
- 7:36Speaker 1: starting a Sunday when he has to face fourth and
- 7:39Speaker 1: one with you know, ten minutes to go in a
- 7:42Speaker 1: game from midfield. Does he punt? Does he does he
- 7:45Speaker 1: go for it? You know, what's he gonna call block management?
- 7:51Speaker 1: We don't know those things yet. I still think the
- 7:54Speaker 1: Jets have a pretty good roster. I don't think it's like,
- 7:56Speaker 1: you know, it's a teardown. I'm not as optimistic as
- 8:00Speaker 1: some other people are, but uh, you know they have
- 8:04Speaker 1: they have a tough game, but a winnable game on Sunday,
- 8:07Speaker 1: I know.
- 8:07Speaker 2: And that's against Ben against Rogers and the Steelers. I mean,
- 8:11Speaker 2: you can't make this story up.
- 8:13Speaker 1: You cannot make this story up. You are right.
- 8:16Speaker 2: But I want to give credit to Jake Asmond, who's
- 8:19Speaker 2: actually starting up a new show on Sundays.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Uh.
- 8:22Speaker 2: As maniacs are gonna get to listen to him every
- 8:24Speaker 2: Sunday morning on ESPN Radio New York. How cool is that?
- 8:28Speaker 1: Well, it's funny. Uh, I subscribe to his podcast. I
- 8:31Speaker 1: don't want on his podcast so long, but uh, as
- 8:37Speaker 1: soon as I got the alert this morning that he
- 8:40Speaker 1: you know, he came on early this morning to talk
- 8:42Speaker 1: about and and announce the the injury to Elijah Via Tucker.
- 8:47Speaker 1: He knows Jets, obviously, he's a diehard Jet guy, and
- 8:52Speaker 1: you know it's it's I'll listen to him on Sunday morning.
- 8:55Speaker 1: I mean, there's a lot of good Jet podcasters out there,
- 8:58Speaker 1: and uh, but uh, it's a blow Via Tucker is
- 9:03Speaker 1: a blow even before the Via Tucker injury, Alex I'm
- 9:07Speaker 1: gonna be honest. I still think that they were going
- 9:10Speaker 1: to They'll be drafting in the top ten next next year,
- 9:14Speaker 1: so I think they might win more than a five
- 9:17Speaker 1: and a half games that that Vegas says they will,
- 9:20Speaker 1: but seven six, I don't think. I mean, I don't
- 9:25Speaker 1: think that they're going to uh uh. It's gonna be
- 9:28Speaker 1: a really interesting year.
- 9:30Speaker 2: I really don't well, and the homecoming for Glenn is
- 9:34Speaker 2: kind of a big storyline here. But also I feel
- 9:38Speaker 2: like I don't know, maybe I'm going off on them
- 9:41Speaker 2: saying this, but Bowles didn't really have much of a
- 9:43Speaker 2: pedigree going into this SALEA didn't really have much. Glenn
- 9:47Speaker 2: has pedigree. He's been at the helm of in a
- 9:51Speaker 2: coaching staff, that's one, and I think there's some pedigree
- 9:54Speaker 2: to him.
- 9:56Speaker 1: I agree, I agree. I think that that's are gonna
- 9:58Speaker 1: be physical and I think they're gonna be aggressive because
- 10:01Speaker 1: obviously he was mentored by Bill Parcells. He was the
- 10:07Speaker 1: cornerback on the Jets when Parcels was the coach of
- 10:11Speaker 1: the Jets, and I know he talks to Parcels on
- 10:14Speaker 1: a regular basis, So I think that's that's a plus.
- 10:19Speaker 1: I just can't see it happening this year. You still
- 10:22Speaker 1: need the difference making teams have the quarterback, and hopefully
- 10:28Speaker 1: maybe this is the year. This is his fifties, This
- 10:31Speaker 1: is his third team in five years, which is in
- 10:33Speaker 1: a good which isn't a good indictment on on Justin
- 10:37Speaker 1: Field's ability to be an NFL quarterback. But maybe this
- 10:40Speaker 1: is the year he turns it around and he reaches
- 10:42Speaker 1: his potential. He's not been an accurate thrower. I don't
- 10:46Speaker 1: know what they can do to help him become a
- 10:48Speaker 1: better thrower. We'll see, obviously, as you know, as I'm
- 10:55Speaker 1: a big time Jets fan and nothing would like me
- 10:58Speaker 1: to see that. They they turned it around in year
- 11:00Speaker 1: one under under coach Glenn So we'll see. I mean,
- 11:05Speaker 1: I I think I think the first month is gonna
- 11:08Speaker 1: be tough, I really do. I mean, after after Pittsburgh
- 11:11Speaker 1: at home, they have Buffalo at home. They'll be heavy
- 11:14Speaker 1: underdogs to them, uh, you know, and then they have
- 11:18Speaker 1: they go to Tampa Bay. I think Tampa Bay is
- 11:21Speaker 1: gonna be very good this year. I think they'll win
- 11:24Speaker 1: the South for a fifth straight year. Uh. And then
- 11:27Speaker 1: they play in Miami on a Monday night, So Sunday's
- 11:31Speaker 1: game is key for them to win as far as
- 11:35Speaker 1: the team psyche goes and team building and and I
- 11:38Speaker 1: hate to use this term that every sports coach uses
- 11:41Speaker 1: changing the culture. The only way you change the culture,
- 11:45Speaker 1: Alex is if you went on a consistent basis. That's
- 11:48Speaker 1: how you changed the culture.
- 11:51Speaker 2: So I some think they have the tools. Look, the
- 11:53Speaker 2: Rogers Wilson did not mesh as well, but I think
- 11:57Speaker 2: the Fields Wilson will be very interesting to watch. I
- 12:00Speaker 2: think you gotta lean on Garrett Wilson here a lot
- 12:04Speaker 2: and let him get the reps, let him get the targets.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Maybe that was the thing last year. They didn't give
- 12:08Speaker 2: Hi enough targets.
- 12:09Speaker 1: I think was one of the Gary Wilson had enough
- 12:11Speaker 1: targets last year. I mean, that wasn't the issue. The
- 12:14Speaker 1: issue last year and we I hate the reesa well
- 12:16Speaker 1: in thirty seconds. The issue last year was that they
- 12:21Speaker 1: got off to the bad start, Solid did a bad
- 12:25Speaker 1: job getting them ready. Then a knee jerk reaction by
- 12:28Speaker 1: Woody Johnson, and I don't blame him. The loss to
- 12:31Speaker 1: Denver was abominable. Then they lose in London, and he
- 12:35Speaker 1: has a lot of friends in London and Minnesota. Knee
- 12:37Speaker 1: jerk reaction. He got rid of solid, which was fine
- 12:41Speaker 1: because I would not have done it until the end
- 12:43Speaker 1: of the year. But then he put Jeff Woolbrick in,
- 12:46Speaker 1: who couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag,
- 12:48Speaker 1: and the defense let down and that was it.
- 12:52Speaker 2: The rest is now that guy was in the middle
- 12:55Speaker 2: of a Shador Sanders controversy.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I mean, it's just well, that was that was his so.
- 13:02Speaker 2: You know so.
- 13:03Speaker 1: But again, if you can't control his son, how is
- 13:05Speaker 1: he going to control an NFL team?
- 13:07Speaker 2: Exactly the point now I want to go back to
- 13:10Speaker 2: and we'll get to the Giants in a second, but
- 13:12Speaker 2: you mentioned both sides of the ball, and I want
- 13:14Speaker 2: to go back to that story he broke which came true.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Travis Hunter number two to Jacksonville. Is that not a
- 13:21Speaker 2: cool story to look out for? It? See if he
- 13:23Speaker 2: can actually do both sides of the ball. I don't
- 13:25Speaker 2: remember a guy that can do that in recent memory.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Well, he has the talent to do both, and god knows,
- 13:33Speaker 1: Jacksonville probably needs his talent on both sides of the ball.
- 13:37Speaker 1: We don't know when Ruth of the NFL with this, well, again,
- 13:44Speaker 1: it's it's gonna be interesting to see how Jacksonville handles him.
- 13:49Speaker 1: He says he can play every play on both sides
- 13:53Speaker 1: of the ball. If he can, God bless him. But
- 13:59Speaker 1: this is not the Big Twelve. This is the NFL.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Uh So, I I don't know why they're gonna play more,
- 14:05Speaker 1: but obviously we'll find out beginning this week. He's an
- 14:08Speaker 1: incredible talent and uh, I'm.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Dion Sanders is as a coach in his own in
- 14:14Speaker 2: his own way. Not many coaches think like him to
- 14:17Speaker 2: use a guy on both sides of the ball. So
- 14:18Speaker 2: there's that too.
- 14:19Speaker 1: But well, the deon Sanders was a great obviously a
- 14:23Speaker 1: Hall of Fame defensive back, an incredible kick returner, and
- 14:27Speaker 1: uh he was, and he was a very very good
- 14:29Speaker 1: wide receiver. That uh that that both San Diego San Diego,
- 14:33Speaker 1: San Francisco and and Dallas Hughes used him. Uh uh
- 14:37Speaker 1: you know as a as a wide receiver. So we'll see.
- 14:41Speaker 1: We'll see how that develops with with Travis Hunter. Uh.
- 14:44Speaker 1: I think the New England Patriot are going to be
- 14:46Speaker 1: a surprise team.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Oh, Drake may If you watch some of his film
- 14:50Speaker 2: last year, he shows potential. I've he he was giving
- 14:55Speaker 2: them some good drives down the stretch in some of
- 14:57Speaker 2: those games. It just fell a little short. But he
- 14:59Speaker 2: has a lot of potential.
- 15:02Speaker 1: I think obviously with Mike Rabel there as in his
- 15:06Speaker 1: first year, and I think the development of Drake May
- 15:09Speaker 1: and they drafted Travian Henderson from Ohio State in the
- 15:13Speaker 1: second round. The guy's going to be great in the NFL. Alex,
- 15:16Speaker 1: the guy's going to be a great running back. It
- 15:19Speaker 1: was a great college back. He's going to be a
- 15:21Speaker 1: great NFL back. I think. Obviously the Patriots don't have
- 15:25Speaker 1: a playoff fifty three man roster, but there I think.
- 15:32Speaker 1: And I am not obviously as a Jets fan. I
- 15:35Speaker 1: am not a Patriot backer in any way, shape or format.
- 15:38Speaker 1: As always, I look at things objectively. I think the
- 15:40Speaker 1: Patriots are going to the arrows pointing up for the
- 15:43Speaker 1: Patriots this year, and I think, and I think the
- 15:46Speaker 1: arrow's pointing down for the Dallas Cowboys.
- 15:52Speaker 2: I mean, that's that whole thing. And now comes out
- 15:55Speaker 2: that maybe he was he's injured, that's why they traded him.
- 15:58Speaker 2: I mean, there's a lot going on with that, with
- 16:01Speaker 2: that trade. But I do find it funny, Lou, Yeah,
- 16:05Speaker 2: the Giants don't face him twice, but of course he
- 16:08Speaker 2: lands on the team that they still have to face
- 16:09Speaker 2: this year. I've met Life Stadium, I mean, of all
- 16:12Speaker 2: of all of the odds of all that.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Yeah, well that's one of those quirks in the schedule
- 16:16Speaker 1: that you know happens. I think green Bay is gonna
- 16:21Speaker 1: be very good. I thought green Bay was gonna be
- 16:22Speaker 1: very good before they got Michael Parsons. And if parsons
- 16:26Speaker 1: neck injury isn't as bad, or that it's not a
- 16:30Speaker 1: neck injury, excuse me? Is that shoulder joint injury? If
- 16:33Speaker 1: that's not something that lingers all year? And we still
- 16:36Speaker 1: don't know if he's gonna play Sunday at home against Detroit,
- 16:39Speaker 1: which is a humongous opening game at Lambeau, the four
- 16:45Speaker 1: to twenty five game on CBS. I like the Packers.
- 16:51Speaker 1: I like the Packers a lot. I mean, the NFC
- 16:53Speaker 1: North is loaded. The NFC North is loaded, and the
- 16:58Speaker 1: AFC West has loaded. Those are the two, in my opinion,
- 17:02Speaker 1: two incredibly tough divisions in the NFL for twenty twenty five.
- 17:09Speaker 1: So it's gonna be in an interesting year. Minnesota, with
- 17:11Speaker 1: JJ McCarthy as a quarterback, did they make a mistake
- 17:15Speaker 1: in not re signing Sam Donald after he had that
- 17:19Speaker 1: great year last year. Donald now in Seattle with a
- 17:22Speaker 1: team that has a great defense. It's gonna be interesting
- 17:26Speaker 1: to see what Seattle what Seattle does. I think they're
- 17:29Speaker 1: gonna be very good. So I'm all rammed up for
- 17:34Speaker 1: this twenty twenty five season, and we haven't talked about
- 17:36Speaker 1: the Giants yet. I do think this is a make
- 17:39Speaker 1: or break year for the Joe Shane Brian dave Ole combination.
- 17:45Speaker 1: They will get better quarterback play this year, unless Russell
- 17:48Speaker 1: Wilson loses it, don't. I don't think he's done. I
- 17:53Speaker 1: don't think he's at a super Bowl level, but I
- 17:55Speaker 1: think he's He's better than the quarterback play the Giants
- 18:01Speaker 1: had last year. And then, of course, the big key
- 18:04Speaker 1: is when do they insert Jackson Dart into play this year?
- 18:08Speaker 1: If they get off to a good start and they're
- 18:11Speaker 1: like five and two, what do you do they gotta
- 18:13Speaker 1: get They really want to see Jackson dark play this year,
- 18:17Speaker 1: I assume, But does he send the whole year? If
- 18:21Speaker 1: to Giants are better than we thought. I also think
- 18:23Speaker 1: the Giants are gonna pick They're gonna be a top
- 18:26Speaker 1: ten A top twelve draft team. Again, the strength of
- 18:29Speaker 1: the team is their defensive line. It could be one
- 18:32Speaker 1: of the great defensive lines in the NFL. You'll probably
- 18:35Speaker 1: have the defensive rookie of the year in the NFL
- 18:38Speaker 1: in Abduu Carter, who's a can't miss prospect, and he
- 18:41Speaker 1: had an outstanding camp. So we'll see.
- 18:45Speaker 2: I still think, even though they have the experience of
- 18:47Speaker 2: Russell and yet the darts in there and and of
- 18:51Speaker 2: course jamis that they're not gonna be in even the
- 18:55Speaker 2: top ten of you know, they're not gonna have a
- 18:58Speaker 2: winning record. It sounds like from from I do.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Not think they're gonna have a winning record. I think
- 19:02Speaker 1: they'll be seven and at best they'll be seven and ten,
- 19:05Speaker 1: eight nine. That could change. And I'll tell you why
- 19:11Speaker 1: they're playing in Washington this week. Washington, from what people
- 19:16Speaker 1: tell me, had a bad training camp. Not in the games,
- 19:19Speaker 1: who cares about the exhibition games, but their training camp
- 19:23Speaker 1: but was a little disjointed. McLaren was out. Yeah, they
- 19:26Speaker 1: signed him. I don't think that's a big deal. But
- 19:29Speaker 1: Washington came out of nowhere and they were twelve and
- 19:32Speaker 1: five last year. Daniels was spectacular. Now they've had a
- 19:36Speaker 1: chance to look at the film. These defensive coaches have
- 19:39Speaker 1: looked at film all summer on Jaden Daniels, So they're
- 19:44Speaker 1: gonna nobody's perfect. Nobody, no quarterback, no player, no right tackle,
- 19:50Speaker 1: no center, no receiver, no no cornerback. And these coaches
- 19:53Speaker 1: look at film and a dissect film. And as soon
- 19:57Speaker 1: as the schedule came out, I'm sure all the Giant
- 19:59Speaker 1: coaches were looking at Washington film. I think the Giants
- 20:03Speaker 1: I'm not. I wouldn't kick the Giants on Sunday. I
- 20:05Speaker 1: think they have a chance Sunday. I do think they
- 20:08Speaker 1: have a better chance in Dallas. Dallas has to prove
- 20:11Speaker 1: it to me that they're not in the dumper. They
- 20:15Speaker 1: have to prove that to me. So I think the
- 20:18Speaker 1: Giants might be more organized, it might be better. It
- 20:21Speaker 1: may not show in the record because they do play,
- 20:23Speaker 1: based on last year's data, the fourth toughest schedule in
- 20:27Speaker 1: the league. But I think they have a chance in
- 20:31Speaker 1: these first two games. Then they come home on a
- 20:33Speaker 1: Sunday night for their home opener against Kansas City. And
- 20:36Speaker 1: while everybody's saying that, oh the Chiefs are, you know,
- 20:39Speaker 1: the Chiefs are gonna take a step back Alex. You
- 20:42Speaker 1: know me, never underestimate the heart of a champion. And
- 20:46Speaker 1: they still have that great defense, and they still have
- 20:48Speaker 1: Mahomes and Mahomes are gonna be ticked off that that
- 20:51Speaker 1: they got absolutely annihilated by the Philadelphia Eagles, who are
- 20:55Speaker 1: the best team in the league going in by a
- 20:58Speaker 1: good margin. Uh. You know people saying after winning the
- 21:03Speaker 1: AFC West nine years in a row that they're not
- 21:06Speaker 1: gonna win it this year. Well, maybe they won't. The
- 21:08Speaker 1: AFCST is hard, very hard. But I'm not going against
- 21:12Speaker 1: the Chiefs. So but I think the Giants are gonna
- 21:15Speaker 1: be you know, the Giants have some they have some
- 21:17Speaker 1: skilled players. I think their running game will be decent.
- 21:20Speaker 1: A big question mark is Andrew Thomas' health. We haven't
- 21:25Speaker 1: gotten a clear definition on how healthy he is. He's
- 21:29Speaker 1: as important to the Giants as Vera Tucker is to
- 21:32Speaker 1: the Jets, and uh, you know, we'll we'll, we'll see.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Should they be better? Yeah? Do they need to get
- 21:40Speaker 1: Jackson guard in there to see if he really is
- 21:42Speaker 1: the real deal? I guess. I guess it all depends
- 21:45Speaker 1: on how the season's going. Let's face this, Giants surprise
- 21:48Speaker 1: everybody and they're six and two. You can't pot guard
- 21:51Speaker 1: in there, you know, No, no, you can't.
- 21:54Speaker 2: You gotta stick with Russ.
- 21:56Speaker 1: I mean, you're talking about a borderline Hall of Fame quarterback,
- 22:00Speaker 1: a guy who won a Super Bowl in the Meadowlands
- 22:03Speaker 1: against Denver and came within one yard of winning another
- 22:07Speaker 1: Super Bowl as a quarterback against New England. It's gonna
- 22:14Speaker 1: be interesting to see how Dabel jugles the quarterback position.
- 22:20Speaker 1: But I mean, I think I think Wilson is going
- 22:24Speaker 1: to be good. I mean he's I think it's gonna
- 22:25Speaker 1: be okay.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Oh no, I think Russell Wilson has a sort of
- 22:29Speaker 2: found rejuvenation too. So we'll have to see what happens.
- 22:32Speaker 2: But again, again, the Giants have given Dable the tools.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Shane's given Dable the tools. It is his make or
- 22:42Speaker 2: break year. I know we keep saying this, but I
- 22:44Speaker 2: really feel it this year.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Yeah. And again, remember, like I said, they have they
- 22:49Speaker 1: have good skill position players and uh you know neighbors.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Now he has a real quarterback thrown to him this year,
- 23:00Speaker 1: so it should be it should be good. The running
- 23:04Speaker 1: game is should be good. Their running backs are deep
- 23:07Speaker 1: Scatterbo from Arizona State, I loved him at Arizona State.
- 23:10Speaker 1: They got him in the fourth round a steal. In
- 23:13Speaker 1: my opinion, I think he's gonna be very good. He'll
- 23:15Speaker 1: be a fan favorite. He runs over people, he plays hard,
- 23:20Speaker 1: his the way he plays is infectious to teammates. So
- 23:26Speaker 1: it's this is is this a this is a better
- 23:28Speaker 1: roster than last year. It's not even close. And maybe
- 23:32Speaker 1: they'll surprise everybody. Maybe they will go nine and eight.
- 23:36Speaker 2: And you know, Laurie, I just say the defensive side
- 23:38Speaker 2: of the ball is going to be promising. I want
- 23:41Speaker 2: to see more from from Burns. I think he did
- 23:43Speaker 2: okay last year, but he could do way more this year.
- 23:46Speaker 2: So we'll have to see how that goes. And of
- 23:49Speaker 2: course I'm thinking of the other storylines of the NFL
- 23:52Speaker 2: this year. What I could think of is obviously the
- 23:57Speaker 2: Bills are always one that's fascinating to me because Alan
- 24:00Speaker 2: still in his prime. You talk about the Chiefs, uh,
- 24:03Speaker 2: you know, not not giving up. The Bills aren't gonna
- 24:05Speaker 2: give up either. I mean they're they're still got a
- 24:07Speaker 2: good prime here. For how it's his year too, He's
- 24:10Speaker 2: got to break through here.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Yeah, no, and it's I mean not only him he's
- 24:15Speaker 1: he has broken through. He needs his teammates to break through,
- 24:18Speaker 1: and he can only carry him on his back so long.
- 24:23Speaker 1: If Allen was on the Chiefs, he would have already
- 24:26Speaker 1: won his Super Bowl. Yeah. So I think the Bills
- 24:31Speaker 1: are gonna easily win a division. They're gonna easily win
- 24:34Speaker 1: the AFC East.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Uh.
- 24:36Speaker 1: The Jets. While I think the Patriots will improve, they're
- 24:39Speaker 1: not gonna They're not gonna be within a sniff of
- 24:42Speaker 1: winning the AFC East. Like I said, I think the
- 24:45Speaker 1: Jets are gonna be picking the top ten again. I
- 24:47Speaker 1: hope I'm wrong, And I think the Dolphins are gonna
- 24:50Speaker 1: have a difficulty, let's put it that way. I really do.
- 24:56Speaker 2: All right, we haven't even talked baseball yet, but I'm
- 24:59Speaker 2: just so enthroned with this because, as you know, I've
- 25:00Speaker 2: been watching preseason football a little more. This year just
- 25:03Speaker 2: been an intriguing thing for me. And I have to
- 25:06Speaker 2: say the other storyline for me, and I'm a you know,
- 25:10Speaker 2: my dad was a Bear fan, so of course on
- 25:12Speaker 2: the U. But the the complete uh what do you say,
- 25:18Speaker 2: not destruction, but you know, you know, the falling apart
- 25:22Speaker 2: of the coaching exaff for the Lions and how they
- 25:24Speaker 2: rebuild from that. That's gonna be interesting to watch, isn't it.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Oh it is when you lose coordinators that can set
- 25:29Speaker 1: you back a year.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Now.
- 25:31Speaker 1: A lot of people say it's not gonna affect the Lions.
- 25:34Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe it's not, but it'll be. It's
- 25:37Speaker 1: gonna be an interesting look. Especially they gotta play Minnesota twice.
- 25:41Speaker 1: They gotta play Ben Johnson, their old offensive coordinator twice.
- 25:45Speaker 1: With the Bears, they gotta play the Packers twice. Yeah,
- 25:50Speaker 1: I think that I think that's a factor. I do.
- 25:54Speaker 1: I do think that could be a factor. And Campbell's
- 25:58Speaker 1: a terrific coach and they have terrific team. But uh
- 26:03Speaker 1: oh yeah, the cordina is not being not being on
- 26:06Speaker 1: the sideline or up or up in the coach's box. Yes, Alex,
- 26:10Speaker 1: I agree with you. It will be. It will be
- 26:12Speaker 1: intriguing to see how how they react on both sides
- 26:16Speaker 1: of the ball this year.
- 26:18Speaker 2: And then I think of her, you know, Herbert and
- 26:21Speaker 2: and Harball. How that matchups, how that relationship is going
- 26:24Speaker 2: to be this year. I mean, we've how did that?
- 26:26Speaker 2: It kind of fell flat last year, but but well
- 26:29Speaker 2: it was.
- 26:29Speaker 1: That first it was their first year, and I think,
- 26:32Speaker 1: I'm sorry, you mean to cut you off, Alex. I
- 26:34Speaker 1: think the Chargers are going to be a major player
- 26:37Speaker 1: this year. They did lose their they did lose Slater
- 26:40Speaker 1: in training camp, in the training camp where it tore
- 26:43Speaker 1: is uh his knee and he's out for the year.
- 26:47Speaker 1: That's a huge blow. That's he protected Herbert's blind side.
- 26:52Speaker 1: But I think the Chargers are going to be very
- 26:54Speaker 1: very good. They they're a Super Bowl contender.
- 26:59Speaker 2: Uh No, very interesting because I want to see that
- 27:02Speaker 2: out of them. I haven't seen that side of them yet,
- 27:04Speaker 2: but we'll have to see. And Herbert's another one of
- 27:06Speaker 2: those guys that's on that fringe of elite, but he's
- 27:10Speaker 2: not there yet. Maybe Harborough will get him there. You know,
- 27:13Speaker 2: he's he's one of those highly tauted quarterbacks for sure.
- 27:17Speaker 2: What else, Louis I mean when some of the NFL,
- 27:20Speaker 2: what else comes to mind? I mean, I'm also thinking
- 27:23Speaker 2: about Pete carrollback coaching the Raiders, and boy, they need
- 27:27Speaker 2: a change of pace out there.
- 27:30Speaker 1: I mean, if you want to close up the NFL segment,
- 27:32Speaker 1: and obviously we'll be talking a lot about the NFL
- 27:35Speaker 1: the next four months, four or five months. I think
- 27:38Speaker 1: the Panthers might be a little bit better, might feel
- 27:41Speaker 1: a little bit better this year. A little New Orleans
- 27:45Speaker 1: is a question mark. But I think the Panthers, the Saints,
- 27:50Speaker 1: the Browns, maybe the Jets, I hope not, are all
- 27:56Speaker 1: going to be in the running for whoever the top
- 28:01Speaker 1: quarterback is going to come out of the draft. And
- 28:06Speaker 1: before we get to talk baseball, well, let's just talk
- 28:08Speaker 1: real quickly about the first weekend of college football, the
- 28:11Speaker 1: first real weekend of college football. It did not live
- 28:15Speaker 1: up to the hype, and the Texas Ohio State game
- 28:25Speaker 1: was boring, defensive struggle. Arch Manning looked like a guy
- 28:30Speaker 1: in his first game against a real good team. I
- 28:33Speaker 1: know we saw two games last year. He nervous. He
- 28:40Speaker 1: was when he dropped back to pass. He was thinking
- 28:43Speaker 1: run first almost on every pass dropback. Alex and Sarkisian
- 28:49Speaker 1: and the Texas offensive coaches tried to give him some
- 28:52Speaker 1: easy passes to first play the game. They tried to
- 28:55Speaker 1: They had him throw a little swing pass and he
- 28:56Speaker 1: threw it in the dirt. So he was nervous. He'll
- 28:59Speaker 1: get better. I'm not going to react and say that
- 29:02Speaker 1: he's you know that he's a bust or anything like that.
- 29:05Speaker 1: But the first weekend of college football was nothing special.
- 29:09Speaker 1: I mean, the Notre Dame Miami game at the end
- 29:11Speaker 1: was a little exciting, but that was it. LSU and Clemson.
- 29:18Speaker 1: I thought Clemson when win the game going in and
- 29:20Speaker 1: a big win for Brian Kelly.
- 29:22Speaker 2: So so we'll see. I know, and Brian Kelly always
- 29:25Speaker 2: seems to run his mouth a little bit, but I'll
- 29:28Speaker 2: tell you I'm still bitter about the way he left
- 29:32Speaker 2: Notre Dame, but hey, he got a big win over
- 29:34Speaker 2: the weekend, and the Belichick era people say it's not
- 29:37Speaker 2: going to be that way every week. I'm not convinced
- 29:40Speaker 2: that yet. Look, I think I think it's true. People
- 29:43Speaker 2: were thrusting this idea of you and c revitalizing his
- 29:46Speaker 2: football program under Belichick. It's not going to take a
- 29:49Speaker 2: day Louis.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Well, especially when you bring it over seventy players playing
- 29:55Speaker 1: on the team for the first time. Now, I expect
- 29:59Speaker 1: them to be as bad as they were on Monday night,
- 30:01Speaker 1: where I mean, you couldn't get a more butt kicking
- 30:05Speaker 1: than the tar Heels took the other night. Do I
- 30:09Speaker 1: think they'll be more competitive? Yes, Obviously Belichick was embarrassed
- 30:16Speaker 1: Monday Night on National TV. He is not going to
- 30:20Speaker 1: let that continue to happen. But as you said, it's
- 30:23Speaker 1: not gonna happen in one year. And they brought in
- 30:26Speaker 1: seventy new players. Dion tried that when he went from
- 30:30Speaker 1: Jackson State to Colorado. He brought all these new guys,
- 30:35Speaker 1: sixty seventy new guys. They went four and eight that
- 30:38Speaker 1: first year. That might be the same thing with with
- 30:42Speaker 1: with Bill Belichick. But they're gonna, I mean, they they
- 30:46Speaker 1: should be okay, they should be competitive going forward.
- 30:51Speaker 2: We'll have to see. You know, we're actually talking on
- 30:53Speaker 2: the anniversary of his first Patriot game that he coached
- 30:56Speaker 2: twenty five years ago today, So how about that, Yeah,
- 31:00Speaker 2: the Jets, but I mean, Lugi, he had that one day.
- 31:05Speaker 2: As with the Jets, I know that lives in your
- 31:10Speaker 2: memory forever, Louis.
- 31:11Speaker 1: It does because it would have and the Jets had
- 31:14Speaker 1: a very good team and that would have that might
- 31:15Speaker 1: have changed that history. But again we'll talk Jet history
- 31:18Speaker 1: another day.
- 31:20Speaker 2: All right, let's get to this thing, springham At, Let's
- 31:23Speaker 2: talk about your Mets, because answer me this. You go
- 31:27Speaker 2: three out of three against Philly, you lose three out
- 31:29Speaker 2: of four and then one of the best teams in
- 31:32Speaker 2: the AL you beat two out of three.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Hard to figure. It's hard to figure. I mean, alex
- 31:43Speaker 1: since August first, they have been crushing a baseball and
- 31:48Speaker 1: in those thirty games, thirty one games since August first,
- 31:50Speaker 1: including today's loss to the Tigers, they're thirteen and eighteen.
- 31:57Speaker 1: They've they've scored four runs or more in sixteen games
- 32:02Speaker 1: that they've lost, and that can't happen. I'm worried about
- 32:09Speaker 1: the pitching staff. They do not have a World Series
- 32:13Speaker 1: caliber pitching staff at this time. You know, Nolan McLain
- 32:16Speaker 1: has given this very shaky starting pitching staff the positive
- 32:21Speaker 1: lift that that they were looking for in his first
- 32:24Speaker 1: four starts. The kid's been tremendous. But can I continue
- 32:27Speaker 1: the last three and a half weeks of the season
- 32:29Speaker 1: and into the playoffs. And Jonah Tong was good on
- 32:33Speaker 1: on Friday Night, But I.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Know, and I gotta plug Mendoza for getting in through
- 32:39Speaker 2: that fifth because he was at ninety one pitches and
- 32:42Speaker 2: you know, of that next batter got on, he would
- 32:45Speaker 2: have not been eligible for I think they were gonna
- 32:47Speaker 2: take him out right after that.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Back I think you're right. I think you're right. I
- 32:52Speaker 1: think Sean Maniya and Cardi Singer are not healthy. I mean,
- 32:57Speaker 1: you go back to the that date that we all
- 33:01Speaker 1: look at, especially for this baseball season, this date always
- 33:05Speaker 1: pops up June thirteenth. Well on June twelfth, when Alonso
- 33:09Speaker 1: made that terrible throat to Sanga and he pulled the hamstring,
- 33:13Speaker 1: and up until that point, Sanga was lights out. And
- 33:16Speaker 1: I was watching the s n Y pregame interview on
- 33:22Speaker 1: Sunday on the pregame show, and they and they asked
- 33:25Speaker 1: Sang about his you know, why he's pitching so poorly,
- 33:28Speaker 1: and he says he's not getting power behind his pitches,
- 33:31Speaker 1: which leads me to believe that that hamstring, strained muscle
- 33:36Speaker 1: pull is still not one hundred and Sean Manaiah, you know,
- 33:42Speaker 1: with the floating chips in his in his left elbow,
- 33:46Speaker 1: I have a feeling that when the season's over, Manaia
- 33:49Speaker 1: is gonna need surgery in that elbow. Obviously, I'm not
- 33:53Speaker 1: I'm not a norther pic orthopedic doctor, but that could be.
- 33:58Speaker 1: But I just don't And their short outings are killing
- 34:02Speaker 1: the Mets bullpen. You can't win. I don't think this
- 34:06Speaker 1: is sustainable. So thank god. Nolan McLain has been I
- 34:10Speaker 1: mean fantastic, he's been fantastic, but again he's only had
- 34:14Speaker 1: four starts.
- 34:15Speaker 2: Which our own Ryan Pigano broke in the news on
- 34:18Speaker 2: with Us a couple of weeks ago. And then McLain
- 34:20Speaker 2: goes out and throws that gem of a game to
- 34:23Speaker 2: start his MLB debut. I know I brought the term
- 34:26Speaker 2: call ups of the year, called of the year last year.
- 34:28Speaker 2: Maybe these two are the call ups of the year
- 34:30Speaker 2: for the Mets this year.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Well, Alex, Alex, I hope, I hope you're right. I mean,
- 34:36Speaker 1: so we'll see. I mean, they go into Cincinnati with
- 34:40Speaker 1: it'll either be a five or four game lead. The
- 34:43Speaker 1: one thing that you want to do in Cincinnati, Yeah,
- 34:45Speaker 1: you want to win every game, you want to win
- 34:47Speaker 1: two out of three. But the one thing you can't
- 34:49Speaker 1: do in Cincinnati is get swept. So they got If
- 34:54Speaker 1: they lose all three games, that means they lose three
- 34:57Speaker 1: games in the standings. But even if they just win
- 34:59Speaker 1: one game, it makes a whole world of difference. You know,
- 35:05Speaker 1: you only lose one, you only really lose one game
- 35:07Speaker 1: in the standings.
- 35:08Speaker 2: So so.
- 35:10Speaker 1: It's an important weekend. This is this is game three
- 35:14Speaker 1: of a sixteen game stretch that is a killer three
- 35:19Speaker 1: with UH Detroit, is done three with Cincinnati this weekend,
- 35:23Speaker 1: four in Philly, come home to three with the Texas Rangers,
- 35:26Speaker 1: who are hot, then three at home with the San
- 35:29Speaker 1: Diego Padres. A sixteen game stretch that is very, very difficult.
- 35:34Speaker 1: The Mets turn out of lock for the playoffs. Yet
- 35:36Speaker 1: unless that pitching staff turns around, amazing.
- 35:40Speaker 2: They are at that third spot precipice and they're they're
- 35:45Speaker 2: they're solidified there at the moment. But but this team
- 35:49Speaker 2: deserves to be higher. But we talked about this in
- 35:52Speaker 2: the preseason in spring drink, You and I talked about
- 35:54Speaker 2: the pitching is not going to be there to carry
- 35:57Speaker 2: this hitting. And it's just it's shown. And I don't know,
- 36:01Speaker 2: I saw Helsley the other night. I don't exactly get
- 36:04Speaker 2: the complaints, but I guess Standick and Helsley have been
- 36:06Speaker 2: in sort of you know, it's been bad with both
- 36:10Speaker 2: of them, is what I've been reading online? Is that
- 36:12Speaker 2: is that true?
- 36:13Speaker 1: Well? The Ryan Helsley in effectiveness has been shocking to me.
- 36:20Speaker 1: Here's a guy who's who sayed forty nine games last
- 36:23Speaker 1: year for the Cardinals, and he's pitching. He's pitching poorly.
- 36:28Speaker 1: He's given a five home runs in his brief time
- 36:30Speaker 1: with the Mets. And I mean, I thought when the
- 36:32Speaker 1: Mets made that trace, my god, what a steal. I
- 36:36Speaker 1: think it might be in his head. Alex allegedly he's
- 36:39Speaker 1: tipping pitches. I assume he is. I mean, the other night,
- 36:45Speaker 1: as Gary said on the telecast, Gary Cohen said on
- 36:47Speaker 1: telecast six pitches, the Tigers aggressively swung at four to
- 36:52Speaker 1: six pitches and put it in play like they knew
- 36:55Speaker 1: what was coming, so they got to get him straight.
- 36:59Speaker 1: At this point, I don't even know if he's worthy
- 37:03Speaker 1: to be put on the postseason roster if they if
- 37:06Speaker 1: they make this postseason, and I think they will. I
- 37:08Speaker 1: do think the six NL teams and I actually think
- 37:12Speaker 1: the twelve teams are are. And even though Seattle can't
- 37:16Speaker 1: for whatever reason, Seattle cannot win on the road, and
- 37:19Speaker 1: they're they're falling back. They're allowing some other teams to
- 37:23Speaker 1: think that they're they're playoff contenders.
- 37:27Speaker 2: But uh, and you know it's interesting because he it
- 37:31Speaker 2: is true what you said. I think it was you
- 37:32Speaker 2: or someone else that said, if cal doesn't produce.
- 37:36Speaker 1: The well again, Alex we said the deadline on that
- 37:40Speaker 1: deadline show that we did not all the time. When
- 37:44Speaker 1: you make these trades and you get like Seattle brought
- 37:47Speaker 1: in Soarez, I think he's hit only two home runs
- 37:49Speaker 1: or three home runs since he went to Seattle. I
- 37:52Speaker 1: think he's batting right around two hundred. He's not producing
- 37:55Speaker 1: like he did in Arizona. He went from a when
- 37:58Speaker 1: he went from a favorable hit ballpark, uh to Seattle,
- 38:02Speaker 1: which is not a favorable hitting ballpark.
- 38:04Speaker 2: Uh.
- 38:05Speaker 1: Hellsley has pitched poorly. Jake Bird pitch poorly. He's in
- 38:10Speaker 1: the minor leagues. And I'm sure we can go through
- 38:12Speaker 1: some other you know, some other teams that make trades
- 38:15Speaker 1: at the deadline at right off the top of my head,
- 38:17Speaker 1: I can't think of. So you don't know. You make
- 38:21Speaker 1: these trades, but for two months you're up. You're upstaging
- 38:24Speaker 1: their lives too. Remember these are human beings, these aren't robots.
- 38:28Speaker 1: So a guy like Helsley, who's been in Saint Louis
- 38:31Speaker 1: for his entire career, now comes to New York for
- 38:33Speaker 1: a couple of months, not knowing where he's going to
- 38:35Speaker 1: be next year because he's gonna be a free agent
- 38:37Speaker 1: and he's pitching terribly for the Mets, and I thought
- 38:40Speaker 1: that was a tremendous trade for the Mets. But you know,
- 38:43Speaker 1: we have to wait and see now real quickly before
- 38:47Speaker 1: we we wrap it up. The Yankees are hitting home
- 38:51Speaker 1: runs at a tremendous pace. I mean, it counts for
- 38:54Speaker 1: the majority of their offense. They still can't build runs
- 38:58Speaker 1: except if they're hitting home runs on a consistent basis.
- 39:01Speaker 1: I think their starting pitching has been good. Their bullpen's
- 39:04Speaker 1: been up and down, and they take advantage when they
- 39:07Speaker 1: The Yankees are very good. The Yankees are very good
- 39:09Speaker 1: against the bad teams.
- 39:11Speaker 2: I know, it's like that Cars song. They got just
- 39:13Speaker 2: what they needed when they face the Nationals and the
- 39:16Speaker 2: White Sox, so they couldn't close out the sweep. However, however,
- 39:21Speaker 2: I think to give them competents going into yesterday. And
- 39:24Speaker 2: of course it's the Astros which start out this twelve
- 39:28Speaker 2: game stretch, Lou, I don't think we saw the difficulty
- 39:34Speaker 2: of first place, but it's here. It's right there, as
- 39:37Speaker 2: Aaron Bonelez, they right in front of them now, so oh.
- 39:39Speaker 1: It absolutely is. And as you know, I'm I never
- 39:43Speaker 1: trust the Blue Jays, as I've told you all year,
- 39:48Speaker 1: And yeah, you want to finish first and have one
- 39:50Speaker 1: or two best records so you don't have to you
- 39:51Speaker 1: don't have to play in that you know, Russian roulette
- 39:55Speaker 1: two out of three first round, which the Mets have
- 39:58Speaker 1: had to do. Maybe it looks like this year for
- 40:01Speaker 1: sure if they make it, which it'll be another two
- 40:04Speaker 1: out of three. But ironically, the two out of three
- 40:07Speaker 1: at home they lost two games to one. The two
- 40:09Speaker 1: out of three on the road last year they won.
- 40:12Speaker 1: So who the heck knows what's gonna happen. But I
- 40:14Speaker 1: just don't think the Mets have a su staind open
- 40:15Speaker 1: pitching staff to win, you know, fourth series, to win
- 40:19Speaker 1: thirteen games over a month. I don't know if the
- 40:23Speaker 1: Yankees have the hitting.
- 40:26Speaker 2: To do that.
- 40:26Speaker 1: Yeah they're hitting home runs at a tremendous pace now,
- 40:28Speaker 1: but as we know, postseason pitching is a little bit different.
- 40:32Speaker 2: And tell me twice, I remember in that Game five
- 40:36Speaker 2: after I don't want to say Roberts let them win
- 40:39Speaker 2: Game four, but I mean he didn't. He wasn't. He
- 40:42Speaker 2: was very relaxed in Game four, like it just whatever,
- 40:45Speaker 2: it was was because he kind of knew that he
- 40:47Speaker 2: had the next night. But let me tell you, when
- 40:49Speaker 2: he locked in on Game five, he shut them down
- 40:52Speaker 2: through his bullpen maneuvers. I mean it was amazing because
- 40:56Speaker 2: they had scored those five runs and then nothing else.
- 40:59Speaker 2: Everybody played theirs. I just think it was the Dodgers
- 41:02Speaker 2: also shutting them out in perfect fashion the rest of
- 41:05Speaker 2: the way.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I can't disagree with you on that. But
- 41:10Speaker 1: obviously the gauntlet to get to the World Series again
- 41:14Speaker 1: in the American League is not as sough as the
- 41:16Speaker 1: National League. You know, I have no I thought the
- 41:21Speaker 1: Dodgers would be more dominant. They're not. I don't know
- 41:24Speaker 1: if they could turn it on come playoff time. They
- 41:29Speaker 1: probably will get the first round by It's gonna be
- 41:34Speaker 1: interesting to see next next Monday, Tuesday, one no, no,
- 41:38Speaker 1: the week after they play Philadelphia three game series, and
- 41:45Speaker 1: it's gonna be interesting to see those two teams play
- 41:47Speaker 1: each other. So, but obviously the Phillies can't beat the
- 41:50Speaker 1: Mets in Phillies in city field.
- 41:52Speaker 2: And Phillies not had that banner year either.
- 41:54Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, well, Alex, I don't think they can
- 41:59Speaker 1: win the World Series. He's without the guy who was
- 42:02Speaker 1: the best pitcher in the National League in Zach Wheeler,
- 42:05Speaker 1: and that was devastating. That's devastating to the Phillies college.
- 42:10Speaker 2: Schwarmer can only hit how many homers in the game.
- 42:12Speaker 1: Yeah, it only takes him so far. Absolutely, by the way,
- 42:17Speaker 1: he is an l m VP.
- 42:18Speaker 2: I don't see anybody else in that category.
- 42:21Speaker 1: I would vote for Schwarver for MVP right now. The
- 42:23Speaker 1: season ended today.
- 42:24Speaker 2: And you know what, I love the Yankee fan base,
- 42:27Speaker 2: but give cals due. The guy's an MVP this year.
- 42:31Speaker 1: Yeah, and I would vote for him for MVP. He's
- 42:35Speaker 1: not only he's a switching in catcher, and he's a
- 42:40Speaker 1: great defensive catcher. And he won the Platinum Award last year,
- 42:44Speaker 1: the Platinum Glove, which is emblematic of the best defensive
- 42:48Speaker 1: player regardless of position in the American League. So we'll
- 42:53Speaker 1: see how these last three and a half weeks go
- 42:56Speaker 1: to gonna be very interesting three and a half weeks.
- 42:58Speaker 1: A couple of things. I know we're geting aead of
- 43:00Speaker 1: ourselves into the offseason, but this is just me as
- 43:03Speaker 1: a Met fan. The Mets should try to get Paul
- 43:06Speaker 1: Skans this year before somebody else tries to get them
- 43:09Speaker 1: next year, I would. I would put together a package
- 43:13Speaker 1: to get Schemes here. I really would.
- 43:17Speaker 2: And now now there was a claim Yankees tried to
- 43:20Speaker 2: a Spencer Jones or something I don't know.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Well, again, I would trade Spencer Jones. He's a prospect
- 43:26Speaker 1: for of course, Paul Skins is the second best pitcher
- 43:29Speaker 1: in the National League this year behind Wheeler, and now
- 43:31Speaker 1: that Wheeler's done, my opinion, he's the best picture in
- 43:34Speaker 1: the National League. The Pirates are not going to sign
- 43:36Speaker 1: him to uh uh to an extension. They're gonna trade
- 43:41Speaker 1: him at one point, whether it's two years from now.
- 43:43Speaker 1: I know he has what four years before he becomes
- 43:46Speaker 1: a free agent. He's not They're not going to let
- 43:48Speaker 1: him go to free agency. They're gonna trade him. If
- 43:51Speaker 1: I was the Mets, I would make a big time
- 43:54Speaker 1: effort to get him, and I would make a big
- 43:56Speaker 1: time effort to get and you don't have to probably
- 43:58Speaker 1: give up as much to get san Ley al Contra,
- 44:02Speaker 1: who came off Tommy John did not have the first
- 44:05Speaker 1: a good first four months and has had a very
- 44:08Speaker 1: very good last five starts. If I was the Mets,
- 44:12Speaker 1: I would aggressively go after one of these guys.
- 44:16Speaker 2: Well that note, On that note, we gotta role here
- 44:21Speaker 2: at the One Leg Up Alex Sports Desk if you will,
- 44:24Speaker 2: but always love chatting with you. Let's catch up next
- 44:27Speaker 2: week as things come out in game week one. We
- 44:30Speaker 2: always do those Monday recaps. You gotta get back to
- 44:32Speaker 2: that fanfl I want to do them. Call me. We
- 44:37Speaker 2: will make that happen with lou Terminello. Terminello's take a
- 44:40Speaker 2: lot more to cover down the road here. It's only
- 44:42Speaker 2: September three more to come right, louis
- 44:45Speaker 1: Right, Alex, Alex, thank you so much for having me
